'Top Chef' Season 23 Week 8 Elimination: Restaurant Wars Goes Exceptionally Well!

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 9:41pm

Last week on Top Chef: Carolinas, things got a little chaotic because Jennifer Lee Jackson had to leave the competition for medical reasons and her partner Justin Tootla chose to leave the competition with her because at the time, she was in the hospital for several days.

Jennifer will have the option to join a future season if she wants; no word on Justin, but I feel like they should let them join a season together if they can make the schedule fit.

Anyway, that left the show in a bit of chaos because when they're down to the Top 8, they always do Restaurant Wars. But what do you do if you suddenly have an odd number of contestants?

Invite the last person eliminated to re-join the show. But in this case, that was Justin and he chose to go be with Jen. So that meant they went to the last person eliminated before Justin, which means Sieger Bayer is back for Restaurant Wars.

Spoiler alert: The post below discusses the elimination and challenges from the Monday, April 27 episode of Top Chefseason 23. Don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled.

Anthony Jones – Alexandria, VA
Laurence Louie – Quincy, MA

What Were the Challenges on 'Top Chef' Season 23 Episode 8?

Seeing as it's 36-hour Restaurant Wars, there was no Quickfire Challenge. The two teams divvied up the work thusly:

  • Executive chefs: Anthony (has immunity) for Team Carolina Queen and Sieger for Team Tierra Reina
  • Line cooks: Sherry and Laurence for Team CQ and Brandon and Jonathan for Team TR
  • Front of house: Duyen for Team CQ and Oscar for Team TR

Gotta say (and this comment was written before I saw how Restaurant Wars played out) — I think having the identical twin brothers as the line cooks is SUPER smart. Bryan and Michael Voltaggio were on the same team in Restaurant Wars in season 6 and even though Michael was the executive chef, I remember them working really, really well together on Restaurant Wars.

Also, having Duyen do front of house is also super smart. She's incredibly personable and very pretty, that is huge.

Courses for Carolina Queen (elevated Southern comfort food):

  1. She-crab cake with bisque or cheese puff with pimento cheese and country ham
  2. Red rice with seafood bearnaise or crispy pork belly with collard greens, corn bread and pickles
  3. "PB & J" with peanut panna cotta, compressed fruits and cheerwine jelly or ruby sweet potato baklava with maple bourbon syrup

Courses for Team Tierra Reina (Latin-Carolina fusion):

  1. Snapper aguachile verde or sweet potato tostada
  2. Pescado a la veracruzana or Tongue & cheek barbacoa with collard greens and a salsa duo
  3. Mole cremeux with benne seed cracker or arroz con leche with cheerwine gel

When the judges show up, I can't help but notice how the women are sporting these bright primary colors and they all look amazing: Kristen Kish in white, Clare Reichenbach in bright blue and Gail Simmons looking smashing in a bright red suit. Seriously, she's maybe never looked better and Gail always brings it sartorially. Absolutely dynamite in that red suit.

Also, just as I was thinking that this Restaurant Wars went better than I've seen in a long time on Top Chef, that's exactly what the judges say. This Restaurant Wars honestly went pretty spectacularly compared to a lot of seasons. This is going to be a hard elimination. If Team Carolina Queen loses, I think Sherry's done—mostly because she hasn't been as prominent a "character" on this season as some of the other chefs and I think if Anthony didn't have immunity, he might be in trouble. If Tierra Raina loses, I think maybe Sieger's out again. (I wrote this before I saw judges table.)

In the end, the winning team was Carolina Queen and the eliminated chef was Brandon from Tierra Reina. What's interesting is that he got dinged for having a very mediocre dish, but I wonder how much he did that contributed to the other chefs' dishes because that's what a line cook's job is.

George Clooney Defends Jimmy Kimmel After President Trump Calls for His Firing: ‘Jokes Are Jokes’

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 9:20pm

George Clooney is coming to Jimmy Kimmel's defense after President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump called for his firing from ABC.

The couple urged the network to axe the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host after he jokingly referred to Melania as an “expectant widow” two days before the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The actor defended Kimmel by comparing his comments to those made by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Leavitt toldFox News on the red carpet before the White House Correspondents Dinner that “there will be some shots fired tonight in the room,” presumably referring to the jokes Trump had prepared for the event.

“Jimmy’s a comedian, and I would argue that Karoline Leavitt didn’t mean shots should be fired,” Clooney said on Monday, Apr. 27 to Variety. “She was making a joke. Fair enough. You look at that side and go, 'Well, jokes are jokes.' But the rhetoric is a little dangerous. And we’ve seen it a lot lately.”

“When one side is calling anyone they disagree with traitors to the country, which is a charge that’s punishable by death, just because they don’t agree with someone, I think the rhetoric is a little too heated,” Clooney added.

During an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Apr. 23—two days before the actual event—the comedian presented an “alternative” White House Correspondents’ Dinner monologue.

The segment was set up as if Kimmel was in the Washington Hilton ballroom and the president, first lady, and other administration officials were there.

Kimmel’s latest controversy comes just months after his show was briefly pulled off air due to his comments about slain political influencer Charlie Kirk.

Anthropologie Has ‘Cute’ and ‘Dainty’ Cocktail Glasses on Sale for $7 in 3 Whimsical Designs

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 9:15pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

When you’re looking to elevate your hosting game, it’s often the small details that make the biggest impact. Thoughtful touches like chic glassware can instantly make a dinner party or casual get-together feel more special. The challenge, though, is finding pieces that strike the right balance between style and affordability, especially when you’re buying multiple glasses.

That’s part of why Anthropologie remains such a go-to for hosting essentials. The brand is known for its unique, design-forward pieces, though prices can sometimes feel steep. Right now though, there’s a standout deal worth paying attention to. The Icon Footed Coupe Glass is currently 59% off, bringing the price down from $18 to just $7, which makes stocking up far more accessible.

Each glass is sold individually and crafted from borosilicate glass, a material known for its delicate appearance and impressive durability. They hold 4.7 ounces and measure 6.25 inches tall with a 3.75-inch diameter. While they’re sturdy for their category, they still require gentle handling and are best washed by hand to maintain their clarity and finish.

What really sets these glasses apart is their design. There are three distinct styles, each with its own personality. The cloud version features a soft, white base paired with a light blue bowl for a dreamy, whimsical look. The heart design leans romantic, with a pink base and contrasting red stem that feels playful yet refined. The sun style stands out with a golden starburst base that catches the light beautifully paired with a classic clear bowl.

Beyond aesthetics, coupe glasses are surprisingly versatile. Traditionally used for champagne, they’re also ideal for serving cocktails like martinis, Manhattans, or daiquiris. Their wide bowl works well for desserts and little bites too, whether it’s sorbet, mousse, or even a small appetizer. They offer a more open drinking experience compared to flutes, which many people prefer.

They’re especially well suited for summer hosting. The long stem helps keep drinks chilled by preventing your hand from warming the glass. The curved shape also makes them easier to carry than traditional martini glasses, which is helpful when you’re entertaining outdoors or moving between spaces. Plus, the colorful designs naturally double as decor, adding personality to your table.

These glasses also make a thoughtful gift. They feel elevated without being overly expensive, and their unique designs make them stand out compared to standard glassware. With occasions like housewarmings, birthdays, or Mother’s Day coming up, they’re a practical yet stylish option that feels a bit more special.

One shopper said they “can't wait to use and display” the glasses, adding, “These are so cute! They came super well packaged, which is great because they are quite dainty.” Another shared, “I loved the glasses — they’re all beautiful and very durable.”

George Clooney Reunites With 'ER' Co-star, 'We Kind of Grew up Together'

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 9:09pm

It's been 17 years since E.R. ended. George Clooney focused on movies and hasn't returned to TV. That doesn't mean he left the medical show completely behind. Clooney, who played Dr. Doug Ross, reunited with a co-star who will excite any E.R. fan.

Clooney, 64, was honored at the 51st Chaplin Award Gala on April 27. Julianna Margulies, who played nurse Carol Hathaway and Doug's love interest, was there to say kind words about Clooney, along with his other friends.

"It’s fun to see them. I love them. I admire them, and the fact that they’re here tonight is really a sweet thing," Clooney told Extra. The actor was 33 years old in the first season, playing the pediatrician.

"We kind of grew up together on the screen, and it's like over 30 years ago we did ER," Clooney said. "I've known her for so long. She was a struggling actress and was sort of going to take another job 'cause she wanted to do the pilot for the show, but they killed her off in the pilot."

The show started after Carol attempted to end her life. She survived and returned to work. "I called her and said, 'I think they're not gonna kill you off, so stick around," Clooney explained. "Don't take the other job.'"

It's a good thing she listened. Margulies was in the first six seasons and appeared at least once in the rest.

"Even though on the pilot, I was just a guest star… the way he treats everyone," she told Extra. "Everyone is treated with the same amount of respect, no matter where you were on the call sheet or who you are on the crew. That’s quintessential George."

Their characters had twins, and the show ended with the couple reuniting in Seattle. Clooney's appearance was a great surprise.

1973 Rock Classic, Named No. 1 Hit Song for One Week, Became a Timeless Anthem

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 9:04pm

Grand Funk Railroad experienced a career-defining moment in the early 1970s after releasing their single “We're an American Band.”

A signature hit from their seventh album We're an American Band, the hard rock band was able to etch their name in music history following the song’s commercial success.

Released in July 1973, the three-member band, consisting of Mark Farner on guitar and vocals, Don Brewer on drums and vocals and Mel Schacher on bass, captivated the public with a seamless blend of blues rock, hard rock and boogie, driven by electrifying keyboards and gritty guitar riffs that made the song an instant classic.

Weeks after the song’s debut, “We're An American Band” entered the music chart and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week.

Grand Funk Railroad’s hit song spent 17 weeks on the music chart, proving its lasting appeal.

In addition, the song gave the band their first No. 1 on the Billboard charts, with a second following in 1974 with “The Loco-Motion.”

The Song Grand Funk Railroad Never Saw Becoming Their Biggest Hit

Before releasing their seventh studio album, the band had been experiencing serious issues and needed a big hit to survive.

They came up with the idea of changing their sound to stay relevant and focus on producing more radio-friendly hits.

“Music was changing and so was radio, it was getting a lot poppier,” Grand Funk Railroad’s drummer and co-lead vocalist, Don Brewer, said in a past interview as cited by U Discover. “We had to make this conversion from being the FM underground band to being a hit radio band. Our very career and financial lives depended on it.”

This is where the track “We're An American Band” was born.

Written by Brewer, he had no expectations that the song would take off, let alone become their signature track.

“I played these two little strings on my guitar when I was writing songs and every chord I knew was in that song,” he said, as cited in a past interview. “I didn’t think ‘We’re An American Band’ would be the anthem it would end up being. I remember the people from Capitol hearing it and jumping up and down with excitement, so I knew it had something, but I had no idea just how good it really was!”

Lo and behold, listeners knew just how good it was, making “We're An American Band” one of the band’s finest songs.

1983 Classic Nostalgia-Driven Film Named in Best Rock Movies of All Time

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:47pm

Released in September 1983, The Big Chill is like a big warm hug. Sure, its fall setting, cozy gathering, and turkey-roasting storyline suggest a holiday watch, but the film is grade-A viewing any time of the year. About a group of baby-boomer pals who reunite in Beaufort, South Carolina, following a friend taking his own life, the film is a portrait of nostalgia, midlife introspection, and really great music

Elevated by a soundtrack that consists of 18 “rock and soul” songs from the mid-to-late 1960s, Lawrence Kasdan’s classic dramedy hits all the right notes. From the Rolling Stones’ “You Can't Always Get What You Want” and Young Rascals’ “Good Lovin’" to Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” every genre is covered and emotion stirred.

Like its soundscape, the film features an all-star ensemble cast, including Jeff Goldblum, William Hurt, Kevin Kline, Meg Tilly, JoBeth Williams, and Glenn Close, who made acting history at the time with nominations for an Oscar, Tony, and Emmy all in the same year. Fun fact: Kevin Costner plays Alex, the deceased friend, but because his flashback scenes were cut, he basically just plays a corpse.

Decades later, The Big Chill stands as a masterclass of blending film and music to evoke nostalgia, with Ultimate Classic Rock writing, “The success of the movie helped usher in a wave of '60s nostalgia, much likeAmerican Graffiti had done for the ’50s."

Earlier this year, the outlet named Kasdan’s film the Best Rock Movie of 1983, reaffirming its spot atop the pantheon of soundtrack-driven cinema. And proving that in today’s cold world, all you need to stay warm is a good movie and a great needle drop.

Carole King's 'So Far Away' Ranked Among Best ‘Soft Rock Songs’ of All Time Never Hit No. 1

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:37pm

No one can create a soft rock song quite like the queen of the genre herself, Carole King.

In 2024, Ultimate Classic Rock ranked the top 40 soft rock songs, compiling a list of the greatest works ever created in the genre. Ranked alongside iconic tracks such as America's 1975 song "Sister Golden Hair" at No. 33 and the Eagles' 1975 song "Take It to the Limit" at No. 28, King's 1971 track "So Far Away" secured the No. 29 spot.

Released on August 4, 1971, as the fourth single from her landmark sophomore album, Tapestry, "So Far Away" was a significant success. While it did not reach the same chart heights as the album's other hits, "It's Too Late" and "I Feel the Earth Move," the track still climbed to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

James Taylor, recording engineer Hank Cicalo, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and record producer Lou Adler gather around the mixing desk for a playback in the control room of A&M Records Recording Studio during the recording of King's album 'Tapestry' in January 1971 in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Jim McCrary/Redferns

Following its release, "So Far Away" was critically recognized for its artistry, perfectly capturing King's loneliness while touring. The song contributed to the broader masterpiece of Tapestry, an album that would go on to sell over 25 million copies worldwide. In 1972, the album won four Grammy Awards, establishing King as the first female artist to win all four major categories in a single night.

Produced by Lou Adler via Ode Records, "So Far Away" is recognizable for its slow acoustic arrangement and emotive vocals. The track featured singer-songwriter James Taylor on guitar, delicate drums by Russ Kunkel and an electric baseline that immediately captured listener's attention. The sparse, melancholic production of the track helped highlight its tender message.

Written by King, the Tapestry single explored the singer's complicated feelings surrounding life on the road. The song captured her isolation while traveling far from her loved ones, making for a touching ballad.

Despite being released over five decades ago, "So Far Away" continues to reach new audiences. King has seen significant success during the streaming era, with "So Far Away" garnering over 79 million streams on Spotify alone. Her ability to remain relevant across generations of audiences attests to her legacy as a one-of-a-kind soft rock legend.

Karoline Leavitt’s Baby Name Revealed by White House Correspondents’ Dinner Mentalist Performer

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:32pm

A lot can change in a few short days. On Friday, April 24, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced her maternity leave, writing on Instagram, “Be back soon!” Little did the 39-weeks pregnant mother-to-be know that “soon” would mean the next day. But following a terrifying turn of events at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Leavitt is back in front of the press corps.

While she conducted a briefing on Monday, April 27, following the third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump’s life, it doesn’t seem like Leavitt has much time left to continue working. With her baby due any day now, the Press Secretary is getting down to the wire. But it looks like choosing a name isn’t one thing on her to-do list. At least, according to mentalist Oz Pearlman

The performer was delighting guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night before chaos broke out. He later told ABC News’Jonathan Karl that, prior to suspect Cole Tomas Allen breaking through a security checkpoint and allegedly attempting to assassinate key members of the administration, he (meaning Pearlman) was entertaining Leavitt with a pretty genius trick. Pearlman explained that the Press Secretary said, “I’m having a baby next week…can you guess what I named my daughter?”

Pearlman then recounts how he went “letter by letter” until he wrote down the name. He asked if his guess was correct, and, according to Pearlman’s account of the evening, the First Lady, Melania Trump, gasped and said, “Is that the name?” Before he could answer, the Trumps and other high-ranking personnel were whisked away by the Secret Service.

. @OzTheMentalist reveals the trick he had just performed on Karoline Leavitt when the shooting happened last night at the White House correspondents’ dinner.

He figured out the name of @PressSec ‘s soon to be born child pic.twitter.com/ejxU1E01Jg

— Jonathan Karl (@jonkarl) April 26, 2026

Now that everyone is safe and the suspected gunman is in custody, Pearlman is ready to dish on Leavitt’s baby’s name. And, as Karl points out, he’s not spilling a major secret. The journalist notes that Karoline has given them permission to share the name Pearlman wrote down.

So what moniker did the mentalist guess? Pearlman reveals the answer, saying, “I believe the name is Vivian. So yeah, that’s what I guessed.”

Of course, we’ll have to wait for confirmation from Leavitt after she gives birth. But if he’s right, baby girl, “Vivian” Riccio (the father is Leavitt’s husband of just over one year, Nicholas Riccio) will soon join her big brother Niko (born in 2024) as part of their family.

Pearlman also recently issued a statement via his Instagram page about the events of the evening, thanking his fans for checking on him and writing, “Was in the middle of performing for the President and First Lady when I looked up to see a commotion, thought it was a bomb about to go off or shots fired. We hit the deck fast and Secret Service acted decisively and professionally to protect us all.”

"I bought this pool last year for the kids, but I think I equally enjoyed it just as much," one fan wrote in a review. "It's the perfect backyard lounge pool for all those hot summer days. I gotta say, it was much bigger than expected, and for that, I was very surprised at the value."

Another fan echoed the sentiment, praising the pool for its "super easy" setup and noting that their "3 and 5 year old grandkids" had a blast in it all day. "I didn't want to kill my grass so it is on a stone area," they added, "I put a large canvas tarp and 3 large thin dog beds under it to make it more comfortable for kids. I'm looking forward to more hot weather so I can lounge in it while keeping cool."

If you're eyeing this pool for your own summer adventures, just keep in mind that a pump is not included with purchase, so you'll need one on hand before setting it up. That said, an electric pump will get you inflated and ready to go in minutes.

Prince William & Kate Middleton at 'Start of a New Chapter' Ahead of 15th Wedding Anniversary

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:25pm

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly at the "start of a new chapter" as they prepare to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.

On Wednesday, April 29, the Prince and Princess of Wales will officially mark 15 years of marriage. They said "I do" on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London—with 1,900 people in attendance and countless others tuning in to the televised global event.

Prince William, 43, and Middleton, 44, have since welcomed three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 8. They have also weathered Middleton's 2024 cancer diagnosis and treatment, after which she announced she was cancer-free in January 2025.

At this point, Prince William and Middleton are "at the start of a new chapter" in their lives, a source close to the couple told The Telegraph.

“If continuity and stability is what the monarchy is supposed to give you, you only need to look at this marriage,” the unnamed source told the outlet. "Whatever has happened in his life, in her life, the continuity and stability of their relationship has seen them through it. They are exactly the same as they have always been. They’re unshakable, the two of them.”

The source added that Middleton and Prince William are at the beginning of a "new normal," thanks to cancer treatment being in the rearview mirror and Middleton having settled back into her royal duties.

It's unclear, as of writing, what Middleton and Prince William's plans are for their anniversary this year. Last year, for their 14th wedding anniversary, the Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to the Scottish Isles for official royal engagements before enjoying downtime at a holiday cottage on the Isle of Mull.

In addition to the royal couple celebrating 15 years of marriage, they have other big milestones in the coming months: Princess Charlotte will turn 11 on May 2, for starters, followed by Prince George turning 13 on July 22. That's not the only change on the horizon for the eldest of Prince William and Middleton's children.

This fall, Prince George will also enter a new era of his education by heading off to boarding school for the first time. Royal author Robert Jobson told Hello! magazine that it will be an “emotional time” for the Prince and Princess of Wales. However, it's also a "chance for him to spread his wings and take part in things in the afternoons and evenings instead of going home to Mum and Dad."

‘Criminal Minds’ Star Recalls Being Abruptly Fired From the Show: ‘I Held Onto the Anger’

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:19pm

Criminal Minds just wouldn’t be the same without Paget Brewster, but her future on the show was put in jeopardy when she was fired.

The actress, 57, recounted her termination from the CBS procedural during the Monday, April 27, episode of iHeartRadio’s “Are You a Charlotte?” podcast with Kristin Davis. While sharing her version of events, Brewster—who has portrayed Emily Prentiss since season 2—recalled filming a backdoor pilot for another series during an episode of Criminal Minds.

“Apparently, this is what I heard, when Les Moonves—who is the now famously ousted president of CBS—when he got the pilot inside of our episode, it was the first time he’d watched the show [in a while],” she claimed. “We think he saw the show for the first time in years and just said, ‘Oh, I don’t like those women. Get rid of those women.’ And so, A.J. Cook and I were fired.”

After season 5 ended in 2010, Brewster and Cook, 47—known for her role as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau—were let go from Criminal Minds. However, Brewster ultimately returned for several season 6 episodes after her “agent went in and had a big fight” with the network, according to the Friends alum.

Cook was eventually brought back to the show as a main cast member for season 7. While Brewster was also asked to return full-time, she opted to leave Criminal Minds after season 7 concluded in 2012 because she was “so mad” about her initial firing. During her break from the CBS series, she appeared on several other shows, including Community, Grandfathered and Another Period.

Four years later, Brewster reconsidered her decision to stay away from Criminal Minds.

“I really did hold on to that anger for too long. It was an unhealthy thing to hold onto. Because A.J. and I were like, ‘We were early, we knew our lines, we never got into fights.’ We were really angry,” she recalled. “I held onto the anger for too long, and after four years, I finally thought, ‘Why am I not [on the show]? I love everyone there. I just don’t like Les Moonves and I never have to see him because he doesn’t care about this show.’”

Brewster subsequently agreed to return during season 12 in 2016. After her co-star Thomas Gibson (Aaron Hotchner) was fired in August 2016 following an onset altercation, she was promoted to a series regular, and her character, Emily, replaced Hotch as the chief of the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

At the time, Brewster requested equal pay to her male co-stars, which allowed her female castmates to ask for the same.

“I fought to try to get my episodic fee close to what the men were making ‘cause we were always paid less,” she said. “I was like, ‘Well, I kind of have them over a barrel. They need me more than I need this show.’ So, I got my episode fee way up from what it was. Then when the other female cast members, their contracts were up, so I said, ‘This is what I got. Go get more.’ … So then, they went in and they got big raises.”

After more than 200 episodes, Brewster is still playing Emily today. She made her debut as the character in 2006 and will return for season 19 in May.

"It was great… I’m here as much as I am in France. We kind of run around everywhere, but we love it there. We’re having a really beautiful time."

The couple's twins, Ella and Alexander, will be eight in June. "I wasn’t really in the market for being a dad," Clooney told The New York Times. "Then I met Amal and we fell in love. I have to say that, after that, everything made sense."

Clooney has slowed down on taking roles recently. However, he's returning as Danny Ocean in Ocean's 14.Julia Roberts also attended the Golden Globes and said she saw the movie's script.

"And I was kind of surprised, because I was like, 'Oh, what is the story going to be?'" Roberts, 58, told Variety. "And it's good. I mean, we wouldn't do it if it's not good."

Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, and Don Cheadle will be in the new movie. It's unknown when the movie will be released.

‘Game of Thrones’ Episode That Isn’t From the Books Yet Among List of Best TV Episodes of All Time

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:05pm

When it comes to the greatest shows of all time, Game of Thrones is certainly up there. Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin, the TV series captured the heart of the novels. However, most people will agree that the quality declined once the show went past the books.

That point came at the end of Game of Thrones Season 5. So, it is surprising to see an episode from Season 6 sit at the top of the “100 Best TV Episodes of All Time” on IMDb. It’s hard to deny that it is a wonderful episode.

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 9 Is the Best

Sitting in second place on the list is Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 9, titled “Battle of the Bastards.” It’s ahead of other popular episodes, including “The Rains of Castermere” and “Hardhome.” The surprising fact about the episode is that it is based on a potential storyline, as the novel The Winds of Winter hasn’t been completed yet, much to readers’ disappointment.

While that is the surprising fact, the placement of this particular hour of the show won’t be all that unexpected. After all, it is the big episode that sees Jon Snow’s army up against Ramsey Bolton’s, with a chance for the Starks to take Winterfell back.

The battle itself offers some believable and nerve-wracking moments, including the point where it looks like Jon and his wildlings will be defeated. This moment comes partially from battles in real history, with the Battle of Bosworth coming to mind as the main one. That battle even involved the delay in the final army moving in, helping to turn everything around.

What Makes ‘Battle of the Bastards’ One of the Best Ever Episodes?

There are many reasons viewers find this one of the best ever episodes of Game of Thrones, let alone one of the best ever episodes of TV as a whole. One of those is the way Jon’s story is fully told, focusing on some of his concerns about not wanting to live anymore. He has a moment where he gives up, and then we get that iconic moment of him reaching up through the sea of bodies to take a breath.

While there are flaws within the story, there are also exciting moments that fans had waited a few years for. The biggest one was the Starks taking back Winterfell, as Sansa got her revenge against Ramsey for all his abuse.

Book fans are still waiting to see how Ramsey Bolton is handled, considering there are some major changes to the woman who is his bride in the books. It remains to be seen just how long we’ll end up waiting.

1962 Love Song That Won the Oscar for 'Best Original Song' 64 Years Ago Was Written in Five Minutes

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 8:01pm

It's not difficult to understand why Henry Mancini was in demand as a composer for movies in the '60s: His considerable talents were behind iconic tunes like "Baby Elephant Walk," "Theme from The Pink Panther" and "Moon River," featuring lyrics by the equally talented Johnny Mercer, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1961. What's even more impressive? Mancini and Mercer won the Oscar again the very next year for another song they wrote together, "Days of Wine and Roses."

From the movie of the same name, "Days of Wine and Roses" was sung by Andy Williams, who also sang "Moon River." The trio's second collaboration didn't just win the Oscar, it also went on to win Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

"Days of Wine and Roses" saw success on the charts, too, as the title track on Williams' album Days of Wine and Roses and Other TV Requests, which went all the way to #1 and stayed there for a whopping 16 weeks.

As music journalist Jeff Meshel explained, the title of the song (and movie) is taken from a poem by British poet Ernest Dowson (1867-1900), whose poem "Vitae Summa Brevis" contains the lines:

"They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream."

Mercer's lyrics are a variation on that theme:

"The days of wine and roses laugh and run away like a child at play / Through a meadow land toward a closing door / A door marked 'nevermore' that wasn’t there before / The lonely night discloses just a passing breeze filled with memories / Of the golden smile that introduced me to / The days of wine and roses and you."

Johnny Mercer couldn't write 'Days of Wine and Roses' 'fast enough'

In a 1970 interview with Willis Conover, Mercer opened up about the process of writing "Days of Wine and Roses," which was surprisingly quick.

"Well 'Wine and Roses' was kind of what we call a rocking chair song for me because I
was given the title from the Ernest Dowson poem 'Days of Wine and Roses' and Henry
gave me that great tune, and coupled with those two things I couldn't write the lyric fast enough," Mercer said.

"I just got out the pencil and I started to write and...I don't know if it makes sense to some
people," the songwriter continued. "Like Andy Williams says he doesn't understand the word 'nevermore' but allegorically I understand it. On a door that you don't see, it's like a Dali painting, you know. You're walking through a meadow and suddenly there's a door and there's a word on it. You see past that, and past that you can't go. At least if you go through you can't come back. Anyway, those were the feelings that I had when I wrote the lyric. I couldn't write it down...I think I wrote it in five minutes. I couldn't write it down fast enough."

While the version of "Days of Wine and Roses" with Williams on vocals is still the most famous, the song has been covered by a number of notable artists over the years, including Frank Sinatra,Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald.

Robert Irwin Sparks Viral Reaction During ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Tour Stop

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 7:50pm

Robert Irwin has returned to the Dancing with the Stars stage, and things just got a little hotter.

During the first night in Los Angeles on the Dancing with the Stars tour, Irwin ripped off his shirt while dancing with Witney Carson on stage.

Entertainment Tonight posted an exclusive video from the performance, and fans have been swooning in the comment section over the 22-year-old star.

View this post on Instagram

“Why he’s single I’ll never know,” one fan commented, as another viral reaction noted, “I volunteer I VOLUNTEER!!!!”

“The fact that this hit ET is entertaining and hilarious at the same time 😂🙌🙌 I just know he’s laughing about this ❤️,” another commented.

Irwin did see the post, commenting, “Hahaha 😂😂”

In November 2025, on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars, Irwin and Carson won first place in the competition. Earning the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, Irwin became the youngest male winner of the show, as well as the first sibling duo alongside his sister, Bindi Irwin, who won season 21.

This isn’t the first time Irwin has heated things up on the Dancing with the Stars stage. During “TikTok Night” of the competition, Carson asked Irwin to take his shirt off for their salsa routine. Dancing to Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” Carson questioned if Irwin going shirtless was a good idea.

However, according to TODAY, Irwin loved taking his shirt off during the competition.

"That's what I wanted,” Irwin said. “Onstage, I was like, you know what, I want to show this new side. I want to own this. … I want to give it that bit of oomph, and it was so much fun doing that.”

On April 26, Irwin wrapped up his second night in Los Angeles on the Dancing with the Stars tour, where he performed again with Carson, wearing a sparkly silver shirt to match her dress. Check out a behind-the-scenes clip from the tour here:
