1974 Rock Song, 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' Named No. 1 Hit Song for Two Weeks, Became a Timeless Classic

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:22pm

Fifty-two years ago, the iconic '70s singer Elton John topped the Billboard Hot 100 with his timeless cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

Released on November 15, 1974, as a standalone single and later featured on Elton John's Greatest Hits Volume II in 1977, John's version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was a huge success. Upon its release, the cover climbed up the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 1 for two consecutive weeks.

The track was not just a U.S. triumph, it also dominated global charts, reaching No. 10 on the U.K. Singles Chart, No. 1 in Canada and No. 3 in Australia. On January 29, 1975, the song was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling 1 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Produced by Gus Dudgeon via MCA Records, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is recognizable for its high-energy glam-pop sound that contrasted sharply with the Beatles' original psychedelic version. John puts his own spin on the track, completely reinterpreting it to align with his personal theatrical style.

Originally written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, John brought the lyrics to life, using his powerful voice to amplify the song's vivid imagery and allusions to the story of Alice in Wonderland. John paid homage to the original rendition by featuring Lennon as a guitarist and backup vocalist, who was credited under the pseudonym "Dr. Winston O'Boogie."

It takes a true star for music persevere for decades, and John achieved exactly that. Even though the song was released over five decades ago, new listeners continue to connect with it. The track has remained relevant through the streaming era, with its Spotify streams totaling over 27 million, attesting to its lasting legacy as a glam-rock staple.

Did This 'Temptation Island' Couple Secretly Reunite? One Castmate Says They're Back Together!

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:18pm

While Jack Mason and Shyanne Blankenship left Temptation Island season 2 very clearly not together, Mason's villa fling Erin Carter (who goes by her last name on the show) says they've been secretly back together since very shortly after filming ended.

In an interview with Reality Steve, Carter said that her summer romance continued with Mason after filming, with the pair spending a day together in Hawaii right after the final bonfire where both Mason and Blankenship agreed to walk away from their "toxic" relationship.

Even after getting back to San Diego, where she lives, Carter continued having conversations with Mason, inviting him to visit her and asking him about whether or not he'd been meeting girls in his new single life. However, the brunette beauty got a surprise one month later.

"Recently I found out [Jack] and Shyanne were back together basically the second they got home, and she knew that me and Jack were still talking," Carter said. "I guess about a month in is when they decided to like cut everyone off."

"So then I was blocked from Jack, blocked from Shyanne, and that was it," she said, insisting "they fully got back together, fully are back together," but that they don't want people to know.

In the Temptation Island season 2 reunion on The Viall Filesfollowing the finale, both Blankenship and Mason claimed they were still broken up, but they did admit to having an intense talk one month after filming where they shared every detail on what happened with the singles on the show. They also confirmed they cut off their other connections following the chat.

"I would say that conversation was productive," said Blankenship. "Jack was like, I still want you like in my life. I still want to be friends with you... We've been together for so long that I think that's the best, and that's where we kind of just came to the conclusion of everybody from the show needs to go."

Kendra Duggar Enters Plea in Child Endangerment Case as No Contact Order Is Lifted

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:12pm

Kendra Duggar has entered a not guilty plea in her child endangerment case.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Kendra, 27, entered the plea on Thursday, Apr. 23, in her case against the State of Arkansas.

Kendra’s lawyer also submitted a motion to dissolve the no contact order against her alleged victims on Apr. 17.

Per the documents, the unnamed victims “have expressed a desire to have contact” with Kendra as she “complied” with the order’s terms.

Later that day, a judge signed off on the request and dissolved the no contact order.

“It is further ordered that the Arkansas Department of Human Services is authorized to supervise, communicate and facilitate reunification between the Defendant and the individuals previously covered in the no contact order,” the judge’s ruling read.

American Songwriter Calls This Heart Performance the Greatest Led Zeppelin Cover of All Time

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:09pm

One cover of "Stairway to Heaven" still gives fans chills years later—and now American Songwriter is calling Heart’s unforgettable tribute the greatest Led Zeppelin cover of all time.

The Night That Left Led Zeppelin in Awe

It was the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. Barack Obama was in office, and the night’s honorees included Buddy Guy,Dustin Hoffman, Natalia Makarova, David Letterman, and Led Zeppelin.

Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson took the stage as Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones watched with anticipation. Nancy Wilson plucked the first iconic guitar chords of "Stairway to Heaven."

Anticipation quickly turned to emotion as Ann Wilson added her powerful vocals. Tears fell down Jimmy Page’s face as he was left nearly speechless, uttering a quiet "Wow" when he realized Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham, was behind the drum kit.

Why This Performance Still Gives Fans Chills

Page, Plant, and Jones bobbed their heads and smiled throughout the song’s lengthy build. Ann Wilson expertly echoed Robert Plant’s expansive vocal range while adding the depth she’s known for. As the song reached its crescendo, a curtain lifted behind the band to reveal the Joyce Garrett Youth Choir, whose voices filled the venue and elevated the performance into something far beyond a tribute.

Robert Plant later called the performance "magnificent," while Jimmy Page admitted he rarely enjoys "Stairway to Heaven" covers, making this one a rare exception.

“I’ve seen my dad cry twice ever. Once was my sister’s wedding, and the other time was watching this video,” one fan commented echoing the sentiments of many.

What Makes "Stairway to Heaven" So Difficult to Cover

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5MBGezhgLSA

"Stairway to Heaven" is one of rock’s most iconic songs and one of its most challenging to perform. The eight-minute track builds steadily, demanding endurance from both vocalist and band.

The emotion in Led Zeppelin’s original relies heavily on Robert Plant’s high, almost aching vocal tone, while the guitar work requires precision and control at an elite level. Few artists can balance both technical skill and emotional weight.

A Tribute That Became Something More

Heart’s performance didn’t just honor a legendary song—it showed that its legacy could be carried forward at the highest level. Performing in front of Led Zeppelin themselves, the band delivered a version that earned visible emotion and lasting praise.

More than a decade later, Ann and Nancy Wilson’s rendition remains the defining Led Zeppelin cover, a powerful example of how to reinterpret a classic while staying true to its original spirit.

Why Did Scott Patterson Leave ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’?

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 6:00pm

Sullivan’s Crossing is back for Season 4, but without a major cast member. Scott Pattersonleft the series ahead of the new season.

Patterson was an OG cast member on Sullivan’s Crossing, playing Harry "Sully" Sullivan since Season 1. However, when Season 4 premiered, Maggie (Morgan Kohan) revealed that her dad, Sully, had left The Crossing.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

The reason for Patterson's exit from Sullivan’s Crossing depends on whom you ask. Showrunner Roma Roth broke the news that the Gilmore Girls star was exiting the series ahead of the new season.

Roth explained that the reason was simply storyline-dedicated since Sully ended Season 3 by agreeing to go on a trip to Ireland with his girlfriend, Helen (Kate Vernon). Patterson, though, has a different version of why he left Sullivan’s Crossing.

“Every actor knows what it’s like to fall in love with a character and a story. I fell in love with Sully and have nothing but fondness for him. The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue,” he shared in an Instagram post breaking his silence on his exit.

Patterson explained that the implication that his departure was a storyline reason for Sully was unfortunate. He called what was being told as the opposite of the truth, calling it sad that people who know the truth have changed the narrative.

“I was not intending to make any statement but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth as I have always been respectful of those who support this industry by watching and loving these characters we are so dang lucky and blessed to portray and bring to life,” the actor expressed.

The Gilmore Girls fan favorite ended his statement by sharing his love for playing Sully, especially since the show is based on the Sullivan’s Crossing books by Robyn Carr. Patterson praised the richness of the character of Sully on the show and in the books.

Sullivan’s Crossing fans were the reason Patterson felt the need to make sure Sully was portrayed correctly and to let them know why Sully and Patterson are no longer on the show.

The new season has introduced a couple of new characters to help fill the void left by Patterson and Sully. Maggie’s ex-husband, Liam (Marcus Rosner), plays a key role in the season as his return means major drama for her and Cal (Chad Michael Murray).

'80s actor Johnathan Silverman has joined Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4, playing a grumpy and disgruntled camper at The Crossing.

Sullivan’s Crossing airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.

Best-Selling Author’s Hit Novel Ranked Among ‘Greatest Books of All Time' Was a True Crime Classic

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:13pm

It's hard to pinpoint any book that has had as lasting of an impact on true crime as In Cold Blood.

The bestselling work by Truman Capote has been ranked among the greatest books of all time by The Greatest Books, a site that compiles and weights rankings from numerous credible literary lists to determine consensus classics. Its placement reflects both critical acclaim and its influence across generations of readers, not to mention the genre.

Published in 1966, In Cold Blood tells the real-life story of the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Kansas. What set the book apart was Capote's approach, blending journalistic reporting with novelistic storytelling, a style he famously described as the "nonfiction novel." The result was a gripping, deeply psychological narrative that explored not only the crime itself, but the lives of both the victims and the perpetrators.

"Several admirable reporters--Rebecca West for one, and Joseph Mitchell and Lillian Ross--have shown the possibilities of narrative reportage; and Miss Ross, in her brilliant 'Picture,' achieved at least a nonfiction novella. Still, on the whole, journalism is the most underestimated, the least explored of literary mediums," Capote told The New York Times in 1966 of his unconventional style.

The book is widely credited with shaping the modern true crime genre, setting a template for countless works that followed. Its detailed character studies and immersive storytelling elevated it beyond a simple retelling of events, turning it into a landmark in American literature.

"When I first formed my theories concerning the nonfiction novel, many people with whom I discussed the matter were unsympathetic," Capote explained. "They felt that what I proposed, a narrative form that employed all the techniques of fictional art but was nevertheless immaculately factual, was little more than a literary solution for fatigued novelists suffering from 'failure of imagination.' Personally, I felt that this attitude represented a 'failure of imagination' on their part."

The story has been adapted multiple times for the screen, beginning with In Cold Blood, a stark and critically acclaimed film that stayed closely aligned with Capote's original narrative. A later television adaptation further revisited the story for new audiences.

Capote's own experience writing the book became the subject of the film Capote, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal. The film explores Capote's complex relationship with the case and the emotional toll of immersing himself so deeply in the lives of the killers.

Decades after its release, In Cold Blood remains both celebrated and debated, praised for its innovation while raising ethical questions about the boundaries between journalism and storytelling.

"I think I have a really great gift, and I owe it somehow to get it out!" Capote told Vogue in 1979. "But I have to get it out the best possible way, and that is what makes an artist have a career: it is this integrity of holding on, holding on, holding on no matter what."

With its inclusion among the greatest books of all time, the novel stands as a true crime classic, one that forever changed how real-life stories are told.

1967 Comedy Film 'Playtime', Which Forced Director Jacques Tati Into Bankruptcy, Ranked Among ‘Best Movies of All Time’

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 5:07pm

A film director is the creative leader of a movie production and is responsible for all things like interpretation and management of the artistic aspect, but sometimes, they risk it all.

This was the case for the late French filmmaker and actor Jacques Tati, who famously went bankrupt after his 1967 film, Playtime. Also writing, directing and starring in the comedy film, he reprises his role of Monsieur Hulot from his earlier films: Vacances de Monsieur Hulot and Mon Oncle. Despite its commercial failure during its release, it became Tati's most daring work and eventually ranked as one of the greatest films of all time, according to Rotten Tomatoes, a popular movie ranking site.

French filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter Jacques Tati on July 10, 1968.

Patiniott/Daily Express/Getty Images

To create his vision for Playtime, he built an entire functioning city set, known as "Tativille," right outside of Paris, complete with its own power plant and roads. Trying to create a futuristic version of France's capital, the construction of the set and filming needed a massive budget, and it was one of the most expensive French films to ever be made. To completely finance the project, he mortgaged his previous successful films and his own home.

In addition, the late director and actor insisted on filming Playtime in 70mm, which is very expensive, but large enough to capture each scene. Filming took a span of three years, from 1964 to 1966.

Playtime is not your typical comedy movie, though. The movie runs a little over two and a half hours, and there are very few lines of dialogue. Instead of leaning on monologues, jokes or one-liners, the story and the comedic effect of Playtime are entirely visual. Despite its differences from today's comedies, it inspired many of today's household filmmakers, including David Lynch and Wes Anderson.

Playtime flopped at the box office during its release because it was very different from his previous movies. Due to the poor reviews, it failed to secure a wider U.S. release. The failure of the comedy film, which also starred Barbara Dennek, Rita Maiden, France Rumilly and more, resulted in Tati's production company, Specta Films, being placed into administration and eventually closed down in 1974. To settle his debt, Tati was forced to sell the rights to his films and his personal home.

Tati didn't give up, and he created a new production company and reprised Hulot in a more modest film titled Trafic in 1971. He created another movie named Parade three years later, which ended up being his last film, before his death in November 1982 at 75 years old.

Years after his death, his children, Sophie and Pierre, started working on regaining the rights to their father's film and maintaining his legacy. The film that almost destroyed him ended up being his magnum opus, and it still makes an impact almost 60 years later.

Playtime can be rented on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video for $3.99, and on Fandango at Home for $5.99.

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 4:49pm

The '80s were full of soft rock tracks that tackled the concept of love, from heartbreak and breakups to finding the right person. In 1989, Richard Marx released a chart-topping hit written as a love letter to his wife that became an era classic.

"Right Here Waiting" was released as part of Marx's second studio album, Repeat Offender, as his second single. The track's title is fitting when knowing the backstory behind the inspiration for its lyrics and message. It talks about being "oceans apart" and waiting for the person they love to finally return home.

In truth, Marx wrote "Right Here Waiting" as a love letter to actor Cynthia Rhodes, who was away in South Africa filming one of her movies. Many know her here for her infamous role as Penny in Dirty Dancing, Tina Tech in Flashdance, and Jackie in Staying Alive. She met Marx while he was working on the soundtrack for Staying Alive, but he thought at the time she was too young for him to date. They met again two years later and married in 1989.

Based on Rhodes' filmography, she was in Africa filming Curse of the Crystal Eye when Marx wrote "Right Here Waiting." According to SongFacts, Marx and Rhodes weren't married yet at the time, and he was eager to go see her.

"But my visa application was rejected and when I came back I wrote this song which was more of a letter from me to her. It was the fastest song I wrote, in barely 20 minutes. And this was the time when there was no Skype and Social networking so I had to ship the track to her. The song was very personal and was not intended to go public. But my friends pursued me to record it," he said.

Marx had no intention of singing the track because of how personal it was to him. It was originally going to Barbara Streisand, who agreed only if he changed the lyrics. She stated it was because "I’m not gonna be right here waiting for anyone." Her rejection led Marx to have a No.1 chart-topper.

"Right Here Waiting" entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 44 in early June of that year, and peaked at No.1 in mid-August. It kept its spot for three consecutive weeks and became Marx's third chart-topping track. The single even charted on Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts and became certified Platinum.

This ‘Daytime Emmy Winner’ Reveals Why He’s Not Looking Back While Taking Over an Iconic Daytime Villain Role

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 4:35pm

The Young and the Restless newcomer and Daytime Emmy winner Roger Howarth is opening up about how he approached taking over the role of the villainous role of Matt Clark.

Howarth is the fourth actor to play Matt Clark. Eddie Cibrian originated the role in 1994. The character was later recast in 2000 with Russell Lawrence, before Rick Hearst took over until Matt was written out in November 2001.

Howarth discussed the role in an interview with TV Insider’s Stephanie Sloane, where he reflected on joining the top-rated soap and teased what viewers can expect.

Asked about his approach, Howarth said, “I trust the writing and I think that the writers have a clear vision of who this guy is.”

Executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith has led the soap since 2019. He previously worked with Howarth on One Life to Live, where Howarth rose to fame as Todd Manning.

Howarth said he hasn’t focused on revisiting the character’s past scenes, choosing instead to focus on the current scripts. “I really just try to stick to what I could figure out from what they were writing rather than try to do what the other two actors who’ve played the part did.”

That does not mean he lacks appreciation for his predecessors. “I’m a fan of both of them. I have a huge respect for them. I know Rick a little bit and he’s a lovely guy,” he said.

Howarth added that the key is moving the character forward rather than recreating the past. “On some level, you have to just do your thing with what the writers give you,” he added. “That’s probably the best way to go about it.”

Howarth has enjoyed a successful daytime career since debuting on Loving in 1992 as Kent Winslow and later appearing on Guiding Light as Jory. He later became a soap icon on One Life to Live as Todd Manning, followed by an eight-year run on As The World Turns as Paul Ryan, before joining General Hospital, where he played three different roles over 11 years.

Howarth stepped away from General Hospital and daytime television in 2023 before returning as Matt Clark on The Young and the Restless in 2025.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS with episodes streaming weeknights on Paramount Plus.

1982 Oscar-Winning Drama's Child Costar Brings Iconic Onscreen Mom to Tears 44 Years Later

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 3:55pm

A surprise on French television turned a routine press tour stop into one of the most emotional moments of Meryl Streep's career.

While promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2 alongside Stanley Tucci on Journal de 20 heures, the Oscar winner was handed a tablet by host Laurent Delahousse and told to press play. What she saw made her clutch her chest and tear up on live air. The video came from Jennifer Lawn Lejeune, the actress who played Streep's daughter Eva Zawistowska in the 1982 drama Sophie's Choice. Lejeune was 4 years old when she filmed the role. She now lives in France, where she works in finance.

A Full-Circle Moment 44 Years in the Making

In the message, Lejeune recalled telling her own mother, after working with Streep, that the actress was her "favorite mother" because Streep "was always nice to me and playing with me," she said in the clip aired byJournal de 20 heures.

Streep, watching the woman speak, asked the host quietly, "That's the child?" Her eyes welled. "What a gift," she said.

Why 'Sophie's Choice' Still Hits

Released in 1982 and directed by Alan J. Pakula from his own adapted screenplay, Sophie's Choice earned Streep her first Best Actress Oscar at the 55th Academy Awards. Adapted from the William Styron novel, the film follows a Polish immigrant in Brooklyn carrying a devastating secret from Auschwitz. Sophie's Choice also marked Kevin Kline's feature-film debut, opposite Peter MacNicol as the young writer Stingo.

Lejeune appeared in the harrowing flashback in which Sophie is forced to choose which of her two children survives. In a 2014 Blu-ray commentary, Lejeune said the separation scene was shot 13 times.

Theaters in 4 Days

The reunion came as Streep, Tucci, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt wrap the press push for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which world-premiered April 20, 2026 at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall in New York. Lady Gaga joins the sequel cast. The film opens in U.S. theaters Friday, May 1, 2026, via 20th Century Studios.

For all the fashion and the spectacle on the press tour, the Journal de 20 heures moment cut through differently. Forty-four years after the cameras stopped rolling on a 4-year-old playing her daughter, the bond translated through a screen.

The Goo Goo Dolls, Who Never Had a No. 1 Hit Song, Announces Update After 30th Anniversary Tour

Mon, 04/27/2026 - 3:50pm

The Goo Goo Dolls have some exciting news for the O.G fans.

The iconic rock band that rose to fame in the late 1990sannounced on their Instagram this Monday afternoon that they released a music video for their hit song "Better Days," to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their eighth studio album, Let Love In, which took place on Saturday. A deluxe edition celebrating this milestone will be released on July 24.

The album, released on April 25, 2006, sold 83,000 copies in its first week and peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200. In May 2019, the album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Better Days" served as the lead single for the record, and the fourth song on the tracklist.

"To celebrate 20 years of our album Let Love In, we’ve just made the 'Better Days' music video available in 4k 💜," the Goo Goo Dolls wrote as their caption. "Watch it now at the link in our bio."

The news comes five months after the band concluded their Summer Anthem Tour, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of their fifth studio album, A Boy Named Goo. The lineup of North America shows started in Phoenix on July 13, then concluded on Sept. 12 in Missouri. In addition, the rock band released a 30th anniversary deluxe version of the record, which includes additional covers and live performances of their hit songs.

The Goo Goo Dolls will be going on tour again this summer with support from rock band Neon Trees. Their upcoming shows will take them across the United States, starting in California on July 24, then ending in Pennsylvania on Sept. 5. The current members of the band, which include John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, alongside touring members Brad Fernquist, Craig Macintyre and Jim McGorman, are also expected to make stops in Idaho, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, New York and more.

Despite being a lead single for Let Love In, one of The Goo Goo Dolls' most successful albums, there was never an official music video until now. Instead, they used the song for a 90-second montage for the Buffalo Sabres, which ruled the hockey world in 2007, after winning the Presidents' Trophy during the regular season.

"I love that the song was part of such an amazing time for the Sabres and for Buffalo," the frontman told The Athletic back in June 2020. The Goo Goo Dolls were formed in Buffalo in 1985, originally as a cover band, where Rzeznik was born and raised.

"It's one of those things that still sticks with people, and I guess, for lack of a better term, reminds them of better days," the Buffalo Sabres' Television Director Matt Gould added. "I still get chills from it."

After 10 years of releasing albums, The Goo Goo Dolls eventually evolved into a punk band and gained mainstream attention thanks to the release of their breakthrough single "Name." In 1998, they released "Iris" for the soundtrack of the film City of Angels and the lead single for their sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl. The song spent 11 months on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 1 on the publication's Hot 100 Airplay chart (now called the Radio Songs Chart) for 18 weeks. Currently, "Iris" has over 3.3 billion streams on Spotify. Despite its success, it never topped the Hot 100 chart.

The 20th Anniversary Edition of Let Love In will be released on July 24. Meanwhile, the music video for "Better Days" is out now.
