Which 'Temptation Island' Couples Are Still Together Now?

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:48pm

Temptation Island captivates viewers with a dramatic premise: real-life couples put their relationships to the ultimate test by separating and living with a group of singles eager to spark new connections. It's no surprise that not very many make it out together on the other side. So, who's still going strong after the show?

The Mark L. Walberg-hosted series first debuted on FOX in 2001, raising plenty of eyebrows with its bold concept but ultimately becoming an instant hit when more than 16.1 million viewers watched the premiere, according to Variety.

The show's had two more iterations since: it lived on USA Network for five seasons before getting revived on Netflix in 2025. Overall, the show has had 10 seasons, but only five couples are still together after the final bonfire.

Most recently, fans got an update on the latest batch of couples during the Netflix Temptation Island season 2 reunion on The Viall Files, which premiered on April 22, one week after the season finale.

While only one couple—Summit Wallace and Kaylee Needham—opted to leave Hawaii together, another of the four couples are going strong today.

Cole Mueller and Scarlett Bentley announced they're back together, whileJack Mason and Shyanne Blankenship said their split is still "mutual," and Sydney McGregor admitted she tried dating Mikey Bivensagain after leaving the island with Xzavier Odom, but it ultimately didn't work out.

Here’s everything to know about which Temptation Island relationships have stood the test of time.

Wallace and Needham were the sole couple to leave 2026's Temptation Island together, and nine months post-filming they told Nick Viallthey were still going strong. While Wallace offered Needham a collar with a key on it at the final bonfire to signify his seriousness by promising getting a dog and apartment together, the duo confirmed they still share neither.

“It’s just kind of the realities of life that can […] prolong that process,” Summit said on the reunion, but both still sound like they're on the docket, with Wallace joking that Needham "brainwashed [him] into wanting" a wiener dog.

Mueller and Bentley remained loyal to each other throughout filming. At the final bonfire, Mueller wanted to stay together, but Bentley chose to leave alone. Nine months later, Bentley revealed where they stand now.

"I am finally allowed to talk about my dating life since filming... I am dating someone and tonight is date night," she said on Instagram before Mueller stepped into frame to kiss her.

In another post, Bentley posted a carousel of sweet photos with Mueller, captioning them "Archives from the last 6 months — you’re still the one." In the comments, Mueller wrote, "I love you so much my baby. We do it together!"

Alexa Santamaria and Lino Troisi (Netflix Season 1) Alexa Santamaria and Lino Troisi on 'Temptation Island'

Alexa Santamaria and Lino Troisi remained committed to each other throughout Netflix's first season, and not only did they choose to leave together... they also got engaged on the finale!

“Going through an experience designed to test even the strongest of bonds only made our connection unshakable," Troisi wrote on Instagram. "Together, we faced our fears, confronted our flaws, and chose each other ... again and again. ... We can finally say WE ARE ENGAGED!!”

The couple also enjoyed a “private, intimate proposal” following the season, and announced in May 2025 that their wedding is scheduled for October 2026.

Hall Toledano and Makayla Halstead (USA Network Season 5) Hall Toledano and Makayla Halstead from 'Temptation Island'

While Hall Toledano and fiancée Kaitlin Tufts were the first engaged couple to go on Temptation Island together, Toledano ended their relationship midway through the show after falling for single Makayla Halstead.

Toledano chose to leave the 2023 series with Halstead, and they've been going strong ever since. "You found me when I needed you the most," Toledano wrote on Instagram on their one-year anniversary.

In July 2025, Toledano proposed to Halstead and she announced their engagement on social media. "For the rest of our lives," she captioned a photo of them.

Kristen Ramos and Julian Allen (USA Network Season 3) Kristen Ramos and Julian Allen from 'Temptation Island'

Kristen Ramos and Julian Allen are Temptation Island's greatest success story so far. The pair got engaged during the finale of USA Network's season 3 in 2021, and they got married in Puerto Rico on July 24, 2022. The paid even asked host Walberg to officiate, according USA Insider.

Though he was unable to do the honor, many of their season 3 costars did appear at the ceremony, including Erin Smith, Thomas Gipson and Chelsea Orcutt.

The pair made another huge announcement in January 2026. “Baby Sky. June 2026,” they wrote on Instagram next to beautiful maternity photos.

MomTok No More, Taylor Frankie Paul Deletes Her TikTok and Instagram Accounts

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:41pm

The Secret Lives of Mormon WivesTaylor Frankie Paul has had her fair share of criticism lately. Following recent domestic violence allegations and the ensuing media circus, the reality TV star is stepping away from the social media spotlight. And for someone who rose to fame for her #MomTok TikTok videos, it doesn’t seem like this was an easy decision.

An investigation stemming from allegations made by Paul’s ex (and father of her third child), Dakota Mortensen, shut down filming of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ newest season. While there was a temporary pause, Hulu resumed taping the popular reality series after the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office decided not to file charges. But, per People, Paul will not re-join her castmates on this season of the show.

Even though The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ fifth season is back on track, the same isn’t necessarily true for Paul’s other current venture—The Bachelorette. ABC pulled the plug on the romantic reality series after a video of Paul hurling chairs at Mortensen surfaced.

Rob Mills, the executive president of unscripted for Walt Disney TV, recently shared an update on both of Paul’s shows with Variety, explaining, “In regard to Taylor, we’re really making sure that—as a human being, on a personal level—she’s being taken care of first and foremost.” On the subject of The Bachelorette, the exec said, “Everything with that is one day at a time. There’s really nothing new to report right now.”

Mills also shed some light on the network’s decision to choose Paul as the latest Bachelorette, “I had met with Taylor. She had said, “Look, I’m raising three kids with different fathers; one, I have a phenomenal co-parenting relationship with. The other one is a challenge, but I’m really looking for a partner and somebody who can help me.” Her motives were very sincere,” But alas, it looks like Paul didn’t get her wish, and her fans will have to wait to see if The Bachelorette will ever air.

Given the scrutiny Paul has faced and the intensity of the media spotlight, the parent of three, once a viral sensation for her MomTok videos, is now taking a major step back. So if you want to check her Instagram or TikTok pages for updates, you won’t see anything there. As of April 23, Taylor’s Instagram page just has the “Sorry, this page isn’t available” message, and her TikTok says, “Couldn’t find this account.”

Like the fate of The Bachelorette, Paul’s socials are still an unknown. The reality TV star is yet to release a statement on when, or if, she will reinstate her accounts.

Elizabeth Smart Wins First Place in Bodybuilding Competition

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:30pm

Elizabeth Smart has taken first place in a bodybuilding competition.

The child safety advocate, 38, who rose to notoriety at just 14 years old when she was kidnapped from her Salt Lake City bedroom, took the top honors at the Wasatch Warrior bodybuilding and fitness competition in the Fit Model Novice Category, PEOPLE reported. She also won second place in the Fit Model category and ranked third in Fit Model Masters 35+.

Smart's coach, fitness and nutrition expert Robyn Maher, took to her Instagram stories to honor Smart, posting a photo of the rising bodybuilding star in a blue bikini from the side.

"So proud of my client who killed it on stage the other day," Maher wrote. "Her 4th competition and she isn't stopping! New goals have been set and a plan is in place. Proud of you, Elizabeth!"

Opening Up About Her Bodybuilding Career

Smart first opened up about her decision to pursue bodybuilding on Tuesday in a candid Instagram post, Parade previously reported. Sharing a photo of herself onstage at the same event, Smart spoke about how she realized many fans were probably shocked by the image.

"When I posted the pictures in my story of me standing on stage in a bikini it probably shocked many of you, and I understand the shock because had you asked me if I would ever compete in a bodybuilding show a couple of years ago I would have said, 'absolutely not! Never in 100 years!' This is actually the fourth competition I’ve done, but I was too afraid to post it before. Worried that I would be judged, not taken seriously, somehow perceived as less than or now unworthy to continue work as an advocate for all survivors. Then this past weekend it struck me how eerily familiar these feelings and thoughts are for too many survivors. I think it’s easy to be labeled as one thing, and honestly, that’s not me nor do I think it’s any of us we are more than just one topic, one idea, one label. I am interested in many things, and as I get older I realize more and more how important it is to make the most of today, we don’t know what tomorrow brings."

View this post on Instagram

Smart went on to say that she doesn't want to get to the end of her life and feel any regret, which is why she has decided to go forward and try whatever she wants. She also noted that her body has carried her through horrific experiences, subtly referring to the horrible nine months she spent suffering abuse after being kidnapped. She was rescued by police and went on to become an activist and advocate for other survivors.

"This was a big change for me, it was hard, it pushed me, challenged me not to give up. I am so proud of myself for doing this. I am so proud of my body, and I want to celebrate it. My body has carried me through every worst day, every hellish grueling experience, it’s created and nurtured three beautiful children, my body has risen to every single challenge life has presented it with, and carried me through so I refuse to be ashamed of it. I refuse to feel embarrassed about trying something new and am embracing my chance at life to the absolute fullest I can. I only hope that we all find the courage to chase new experiences, goals, bettering ourselves, and most importantly happiness," she concluded.

The cast reunited on The Viall Files and gave an update on their lives. Kaylee and Summit are still together, but haven't moved in together. They'll talk more about their situation in part two, but they did talk about the reason on Reality Steve.

"That's not for a lack of my commitment or anything like that," Summit said. "I would move in with this girl tomorrow. We want to get the dog tomorrow. It's just the realities of life."

"It was hard because we both got back from the island," Kaylee claimed. "I had to find a new job. He had to get back into work, and there was just not the time and place where we were like, going to be ready to move into an apartment."

She said they'd rather make a larger move together. "And we want to move to a whole other state," Kaylee continued. "So we didn't just want to up and leave our careers until we figured out everything post show."

They plan to move from New York to California. The couple was in California looking at places and hoped to move by the end of the summer. They love San Diego, and Kaylee's brother lives there.

We Asked 3 Trainers About the Best Move for Lower Belly Fat and They All Said the Same Thing

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:25pm

If you were to ask gym-goers which area of the body is the most frustrating to slim down, chances are, they’d say the dreaded middle-aged spread. Belly fat is such a common concern that it’s earned many nicknames over the years, including “muffin top,” “belly pooch,” “spare tire,” “love handles”—okay, you get the picture. The bottom line? Life happens, and so does belly fat.

This stubborn accumulation of fat becomes more common in midlife due to natural muscle loss (sarcopenia), hormonal and metabolic shifts and reduced physical activity. Much of it consists of visceral fat, which is situated deep inside the abdomen and wraps around your internal organs. This type of fat poses serious health risks—including cardiovascular disease, dementia, asthma and certain forms of cancer—and can be challenging to get rid of.

“Everyone stores fat differently, but the lower belly is one of the most common areas people find particularly stubborn. Struggling to lose fat in this area doesn’t mean your overall weight loss efforts aren’t working; it simply reflects how the body prioritizes fat storage and loss,” explains Deborah Luciano, a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, from Yoga-Go, who has 20+ years of experience in the health and wellness space. “The lower abdomen has several characteristics that make fat here harder to reduce compared to other areas of the core or body. It is especially sensitive to factors such as stress, sleep, age and hormones. For instance, hormones like cortisol or insulin can encourage fat storage around the midsection, making visible progress slower.”

The good news? According to Harvard Health Publishing, regular exercise can help decrease the circumference of your waistline. Even if the number on the scale doesn’t drop much, you can still lose visceral belly fat and sculpt lean muscle.

You’ve got this, because we spoke with three trainers to learn the most productive exercise to burn lower belly fat, and they all had the same answer. So roll out your workout mat and let’s get started.

The Best Exercise To Address Lower Belly Fat

Catherine Falls Commercial/Getty Images

Experts agree that the pelvic tilt reigns supreme for addressing lower belly fat. This exercise fires up the deep core muscles, including the transverse abdominis (TA), as you rotate your pelvis backward and decrease the arching of the lower spine, Luciano explains.

“This movement encourages coordinated engagement of the abdominal wall and stabilizing muscles, creating a subtle ‘corset-like’ tension around the midsection,” she says. “While it doesn’t isolate the TA, it helps train core control and spinal support in a low-load way.”

According to Rob Moal, CPT with Train Like Rob, who is based in Vancouver, BC, the TA is the deepest abdominal muscle—and it’s something many classic ab exercises miss.

“The pelvic tilt also recruits the lower fibers of the rectus abdominis, the multifidus along the spine and the pelvic floor. It's a full deep-core activation, not just a surface-level crunch,” Moal explains.

Because the movement itself is small and controlled, it takes momentum out of the equation and isolates the deeper muscles, forcing them to do all the work. This is what makes the Pilates pelvic tilt so productive for training the lower core in a manner traditional ab workouts simply do not, says Josh York, Founder and CEO of GYMGUYZ, the world’s largest in-home and on-site personal training company.

Related: Tried-and-True Tips That Do the Trick—8 Simple Ways to Lose Belly Fat Naturally

How to do a pelvic tilt
  1. Begin lying flat on your back on the mat with your knees bent, feet flat and arms at your sides.
  2. Take a deep breath in.
  3. On the exhale, gently tilt your pelvis, drawing your belly button in toward your spine and pressing your lower back into the mat.
  4. Hold for a few seconds before releasing to the start position.
What Makes the Pelvic Tilt More Effective Than Classic Ab Exercises?

Many of us have performed countless crunches and sit-ups in hopes of building a lean, more defined midsection. While these moves have forever been ab routine staples, they target the more “superficial ab muscles,” like the “six-pack”—and they don’t fire up the deep core, says Luciano. Pelvic tilts, however, engage the TA—a muscle that’s essential for core stability and establishing a flatter midsection.

“Another key difference is how these exercises affect the lower back. Crunches and sit-ups can cause it to arch if performed incorrectly, sometimes leading to compression or discomfort. Pelvic tilts encourage the lower back to stay pressed into the floor, promoting a safer spinal alignment and reducing unnecessary strain,” Luciano adds.

Sit-ups can also cause hip flexor dominance, where your muscles at the front of your hips take center stage, reducing engagement of the core. Pelvic tilts minimize this by ensuring the movement stays small and controlled throughout, allowing the deep muscles in your abdomen to lead the exercise.

The Importance of Form, Control and Tempo

When it comes to acing pelvic tilts, focusing on form, control and tempo is key. After all, this isn’t a power exercise, says Moal, but rather “neuromuscular re-education.” In layman’s terms, you’re teaching your deep core to activate correctly—usually for the first time.

Moal tells his clients to move slowly and with intention—fully exhaling during the tilt, holding for two to three seconds at the end range, and using control on the release.

“If you rush it, you recruit the wrong muscles and miss the point entirely,” he stresses.

The pelvic tilt also requires mindful breathing—specifically, diaphragmatic breathing. This breathing method—also known as “belly breathing,” or breathing deeply into your belly—helps coordinate the movement and ensures the right muscles are being used.

“During this exercise, this type of breathing turns a simple movement into an important tool for engaging the deep core. It also prevents common mistakes such as holding the breath and over-tensing surrounding muscles like the glutes, which can reduce the exercise’s effectiveness,” says Luciano.

Maximizing Your Routine for Best Results

If you’re set on losing lower belly fat, adopting a well-rounded approach is always key. While pelvic tilts are excellent for boosting deep core activation and improving muscle imbalances, they shouldn’t be the sole part of your belly fat-melting routine.

York says the pelvic tilt serves as an excellent warm-up or cool-down exercise to focus on breathing. Consider it your “foundation.” Once you learn how to control the pelvis and fire up your lower abs, you can transfer that same muscle engagement to other exercises to maximize their benefits.

“Combining pelvic tilts with other exercises, such as glute bridges, planks or other core movements, helps engage surrounding muscle groups and build overall strength. This not only supports better movement patterns but also increases overall energy expenditure,” Luciano points out. “It is also important to remember that you can’t spot-reduce fat. Since lower body fat is often more resistant and typically reduced later in the weight loss process, focusing only on this area won’t provide the desired results.”

Focusing on regular strength training, cardio, a nutritious diet and consistency is crucial in order to achieve noticeable results.

Heads Up—JetBlue Is Updating Its Boarding Process Too

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:10pm

If you have a flight with JetBlue coming up, keep a close eye on your boarding pass. Starting April 29, 2026, the airline is retiring its lettered boarding system (Groups A through F) in favor of a numbered process.

The goal is to make gate announcements "more intuitive," and easier to hear and understand, reducing that "gate lice" huddle we all try to avoid. While the categories aren't changing drastically, there is a new hierarchy to keep in mind, especially if you're a credit card holder or an "EvenMore" regular.

Related: JetBlue Just Made It Possible to Book Your Entire Vacation with Monthly Payments

The New Boarding Order

The new process consolidates the previous 11 categories into 10 distinct boarding groups. Here is exactly how the line will move:

  • Pre-boarding: Customers with disabilities.
  • Group 1: Mosaic 3 & 4 members and Mint customers.
  • Group 2: Mosaic 1 & 2 members and "EvenMore" (extra legroom) customers.
  • Group 3: JetBlue Premier and Business Cardmembers, Blue Extra fares, and those who purchased "Early Boarding" perks.
  • Courtesy Boarding: Active military and customers traveling with car seats or strollers.
  • Group 4: JetBlue Vacations customers and general boarding (based on seat location).
  • Groups 5–8: General boarding (based on seat location).

What the New Numbers Mean for You

For most travelers, the shift from "Group B" to "Group 3" is just a label swap. However, by moving to numbers, JetBlue is aligning more closely with the boarding styles of major carriers like United and Delta.

The real winner in this update? "EvenMore" seat purchasers. In the old system, they were often lumped into a broader "Group A" alongside various credit card holders. In the new 2026 structure, they have secured a clear spot in Group 2, right behind the top-tier Mosaic and Mint passengers.

Notably, JetBlue has clarified that unaccompanied minors will now be escorted onto the aircraft after all other passengers have boarded. This ensures that flight attendants can give them full attention during the settling-in process without the chaos of a general boarding rush.

1976 Country Icon Hit a Major Milestone 50 Years Ago Today as New Music Emerges

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:08pm

On April 23, 1976, a rising country star stepped onto one of the genre’s most revered stages and marked a career-defining moment that still resonates five decades later. The singer made his debut as a member of the Grand Ole Opry that night, performing “The Shelter of Your Eyes” and “You’re My Best Friend”—two songs that would come to define his understated, deeply emotional style.

That artist was Don Williams, the baritone-voiced hitmaker known as the “Gentle Giant,” whose calm delivery and introspective lyrics helped shape country music throughout the 1970s and ’80s.

Now, 50 years after that milestone, Williams’ legacy is once again in the spotlight. As part of the Opry’s centennial celebration, the Opry 100 Honors Don Williams show is set for June 10, bringing together some of today’s biggest stars to celebrate his enduring influence.

Among those honoring Williams are Keith Urban and Trisha Yearwood, both of whom have long cited him as a major inspiration. Urban has often spoken about growing up with Williams’ music playing at home, calling it the soundtrack of his childhood. He later collaborated with Williams on the song “Imagine That” for the 2012 album And So It Goes. Yearwood, meanwhile, paid tribute to Williams on the 2017 album Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams and shared a connection through famed producer Garth Fundis, who helped craft Williams’ signature sound.

In addition to the tribute concert, fans will soon hear something entirely new from the late star. A collection of previously unheard recordings, discovered by his son Tim Williams and longtime producer Fundis, will be released May 29 as Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes. The songs were recorded between 1979 and 1984, a period that produced some of Williams’ most beloved hits, including “Tulsa Time,” “I Believe in You,” “It Must Be Love,” and “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good.”

With his steady voice and no-frills approach, Williams built a catalog that has quietly endured for generations. Fifty years after that pivotal night on the Opry stage, his music continues to offer the same sense of warmth, reflection, and timeless comfort that first made him a star.

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 1:06pm

Mariska Hargitaywas emotional over the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime starring her close friend Christopher Meloni.

Hargitay spoke with Extra in a video shared on Wednesday, April 22, where she shared that she "burst in to tears" when she saw Meloni's post on Instagram about the show being cancelled.

"He was so beautiful and open," she said, "It has been a great ride. It has been so beautiful and intimate and such a huge part of his life. [It] was life-changing for him."

She also expressed how the news of the show's cancellation took her by surprise.

"Chris is working and in demand, and such a magnificent actor, but it's, in a way, closing a chapter," she said. "So when that happens, one needs to take inventory, right? And it's a real marker in your life."

When asked if fans would see her and Meloni together again on screen, Hargitay replied, "Somehow, someway, yes."

Meloni shared a video on Instagram last week thanking fans for their support following the cancellation news. He wrote in the caption, "Thank you OC/SVU fans. You gave me a life"

“Hey everyone, I just saw that they announced OC, Organized Crimewon’t be coming back,” Meloni began in the video. “So I wanted to take this moment to say thank you to the fans, who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back.”

He continued, "It was a good ride, I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride, but thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of. Nearly 17-odd years.”

Law & Order: Organized Crime premiered in 2021 and aired its fifth season in April 2025. Meloni revived his beloved character from Law & Order: SVU, Elliott Stabler, in the series. Meloni starred alongside Hargitay in SVU from 1999 to 2011.

Trump Has a Proposal to Help Retirees—Here's How Real Financial Pros Actually Feel About It

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:56pm

During the president's State of the Union address, he shared a series of new ideas for America. One idea in particular that stood out was a proposal for a government-backed retirement plan available to Americans without employer-sponsored plans, such as gig workers and freelancers. The plan would include a 50 percent government match, up to $1,000.

And while the proposal echoes previous "concepts of a plan" for the president, the idea that there could be a path for all Americans earning less than the national median income to access a government-backed retirement plan seems like a no-brainer. I reached out to a few financial pros to see what they thought about the possibility of something like this coming to fruition. Here's what they had to say.

The After-Tax Savings Account Could Help More People Save for Retirement

As many as 78 percent of businesses that have fewer than 10 employees don't offer employer-based retirement plans, according to Sara Wright, CFP® Professional with Domain Money, who notes that part-time employees and contractors are also out of the loop here.

"In total, that’s almost half of all private-sector employees, according to the AARP," she says, noting that incentivizing saving for retirement with the saver's match could be powerful enough to get more Americans to save for retirement.

It Doesn't Offer as Robust an Impact as Traditional Savings Plans

While it may be enough to jump-start retirement savings for some, Noah Lewis, Financial Analyst at Scholar Financial Advising, says the plan may not be as powerful as some more traditional options...whether you have an employer match or not.

“I think in theory it’s a good idea," Lewis says. "The main benefit compared to something like a Roth IRA is the government match. But it kind of stays more positive in theory, because the match is only $1,000, and that’s only if someone is actually contributing to the account."

He says this will really only work if people opt to use it, and even then, "it’s not going to be a massive game changer."

The Proposed Plan Comes With Some Risk

Another thing Lewis thinks the plan has going against it is the potential for long-term risk. "We’re already dealing with the Social Security trust shortfall, and we’re already running deficits while trying to fund that," he says. "So I don’t really see the logic of adding something new on top of that without fixing Social Security first."

In short, he doesn't think that this is a real solution.

Lower-Income Americans Will Still Miss Out

Trump's plan was to reach those lower-income Americans who will struggle to retire once they are eligible. However, George Dimov, CPA, Founder, and CEO of Dimov Tax, says that this plan still leaves most of these folks out in the cold.

"The big problem I see is that you have to put money into the account before you can get the match," he says. "For a family that is already struggling to make ends meet and is $80 short every month, getting a 50 percent match, on no money, is still no money. This is the part that people who make policies keep ignoring."

Whether you think this proposal sounds great or if you feel like it needs more work, one thing appears to be certain: Americans are looking for better ways to save for retirement. And while suggestions like Trump's could be a good start, it still doesn't seem likely to go far enough to help the people who need it most.

A Rare Natural Phenomenon Is Returning to This Beloved Tennessee National Park— Here's How to Experience It for Yourself

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:50pm

Every year, for just a few nights, something extraordinary happens deep in the forests of the Smokies. As darkness settles over the trees, thousands of tiny lights begin to pulse in unison, like a living constellation flickering across the forest floor. And now, travelers have something to plan for: the official dates for this magical event are here.

The National Park Service has announced that the 2026 synchronous firefly viewing event will take place from May 20 through May 27 in the Elkmont area of the park in Tennessee.

What Makes This Event So Special?

This isn’t your average summer firefly sighting. The species responsible, Photinus carolinus, is one of the very few in North America capable of synchronizing its flashes.

Instead of random flickers, thousands of fireflies blink together in waves, creating a rhythmic light show that feels almost choreographed. It’s a mating ritual, but to visitors, it looks like nature’s perfectly timed light display.

The phenomenon occurs only for a short window each year, typically late May or early June, and its timing depends heavily on temperature and environmental conditions. That unpredictability and its rarity are part of what make it such a bucket-list experience.

@revealedtravelguides

Rise and shine everyone! 💡 The 2026 Synchronous Firefly Viewing Event happening soon at Great Smoky Mountain National Park! 📅 Peak viewing typically happens late May into early June (exact dates announced soon) 🎟 Access is VERY limited and requires a lottery system to attend 📍 Viewing takes place in the Elkmont area of the park Learn more info here: https://www.revealedtravelguides.com/great-smoky/the-great-smoky-mountains-synchronous-fireflies/ #greatsmokymountains #nationalpark #nps #fireflies #findyourpark #Fireflies

If you’re imagining pulling up to a trailhead and catching the show, think again.

Due to overwhelming demand and the need to protect the fireflies during their mating season, access to Elkmont is strictly limited. The park issues just 120 vehicle reservations per night (960 total) through a lottery system.

How to Enter the Lottery

If you want a chance to see the spectacle, timing matters almost as much as luck.

Here’s how it works:

  • The lottery opens April 24 at 10 a.m. EDT and closes April 27 at 11:59 p.m. EDT
  • You must apply through Recreation.gov
  • There’s a $1 application fee
  • You can select two preferred dates
  • Winners are notified by May 6

If selected, you’ll be automatically charged a $29 reservation fee that covers parking and event logistics. Each reservation allows one vehicle with up to seven passengers.

A key tip: applying early doesn’t increase your chances. The system is randomized, so every entry has an equal shot.

Seeing the synchronous and blue ghost fireflies at Elkmont is a spiritual experience. #fireflies #synchronousfireflies #smokies #greatsmokeymountains

♬ M83 x Star Wars Theme MIX - Hannah What Happens If You Don’t Win?

Here’s the reality: most people won’t get a ticket. But that doesn’t mean your trip is over. There are still ways to experience the magic of fireflies in and around the Smokies:

  • Visit just before or after peak dates: Fireflies don’t disappear overnight. You can often catch smaller displays in the days leading up to or following the official event window, especially near Elkmont or surrounding areas.
  • Explore other areas like Cades Cove: While not synchronized, fireflies are still abundant throughout the park during late spring and summer.
  • Look for guided or private viewing experiences: Some nearby places offer guided firefly walks or small-group experiences on private land, offering a quieter, more intimate alternative.
  • Camp in Elkmont Campground: Campers with reservations may have limited access during the event period, offering another potential way in if you plan far enough ahead.

In a world of crowded viewpoints and overhyped attractions, the synchronous fireflies of the Smokies remain something rare: a natural event that still feels untouched, fleeting, and genuinely magical.

65 Years Ago, This Recorded Carnegie Hall Concert Led to the First Album of the Year by a Female Artist

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:49pm

On April 23 1961, Judy Garland stepped onto the stage at Carnegie Hall and delivered what many still consider one of the greatest live performances in music history. The concert was also recorded for a live album, which ultimately went down in history.

At the time, Garland was already an icon, beloved for her role in The Wizard of Ozand her unmistakable voice. But her career had been marked by personal and professional turbulence. This concert ultimately became her triumphant comeback.

Backed by a full orchestra and fueled by raw emotion, Garland captivated the audience with a setlist that blended classic standards, Broadway favorites, and deeply personal interpretations. She performed fan favorites like "Over the Rainbow" and "The Man That Got Away." Her ability to balance vulnerability with control created an electric atmosphere inside the hall, culminating in multiple standing ovations.

The resulting album from the recorded evening, Judy at Carnegie Hall, captured not only Garland's vocal brilliance but also the palpable connection between the artist and her audience. When it was released later that year, it became an instant success, spending weeks at the top of the charts. More significantly, at the Grammy Awards, the album earned Garland a historic distinction: it won Album of the Year, making her the first female artist ever to receive that honor.

This achievement was groundbreaking in an industry that, at the time, rarely recognized women at the highest level. Garland's win didn't just validate her talent; it helped pave the way for future female artists to be acknowledged as dominant creative forces. Her triumph resonated beyond music, symbolizing resilience and the power of reinvention.

Judy at Carnegie Hall showcases Garland at her most dynamic, with a setlist that blends Broadway, pop standards, and signature songs. Among the most celebrated performances are "When You're Smiling," "Almost Like Being in Love," and "This Can't Be Love," which highlight her vocal agility. She also delivers emotionally rich renditions of "Do It Again" and "Chicago," each infused with her trademark intensity.

Other standout tracks include "San Francisco," "Swanee," and a powerful medley of "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody."

Beyond winning Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards, the album earned multiple additional honors. It took home Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Engineering Contribution (Classical). Garland also received Best Soloist Performance (with Orchestra). Altogether, Judy at Carnegie Hall won five Grammys, cementing its legacy as one of the most awarded—and revered—live albums ever recorded.

Over six decades later, Garland's Carnegie Hall concert remains a cultural touchstone. Critics and musicians alike continue to cite it as a masterclass in live performance and proof that technical perfection alone isn't necessarily enough.

Something 'Strange' Is Happening to McDonald’s Happy Meals

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:41pm

Netflix and McDonald’s are collaborating to bring Stranger Thingsfans a brand-new Happy Meal in honor of the newly released animated spinoff show Stranger Things: Tales From '85.

Although Stranger Things concluded with Season 5, the larger universe has left stories to be explored, including in the Tales from '85 series, set between the second and third seasons of the original show. In this new story, the main kids (and some brand-new faces) are fighting back against new, terrifying monsters that are infiltrating Hawkins—something that is especially surprising considering Eleven seemingly closed the gate to the Upside Down in Season 2.

Faced with this mystery, the kids, led by Dustin Henderson, established the Hawkins Investigators Club to search for answers and a way to defeat this new foe, and now, they need the help of McDonald’s fans too. These very same creatures have infiltrated the Golden Arches, and by scanning the QR code on every Happy Meal, guests can enter an interactive game and help the gang save Hawkins once more.

The Tales From '85 Happy Meals include a custom Stranger Things: Tales From '85-inspired Happy Meal box, one of 12 collectible character toys from the show, a Stranger Things activity book and the previously mentioned QR code that will drop fans right into the action.

‘Happy Days’ Star Why Reveals He Was Almost Fired From the Show 50 Years Ago

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:35pm

Scott Baio’s time on Happy Days was nearly cut short. The actor joined the cast of the ABCsitcom at the height of its popularity in 1977, playing Fonzie’s (Henry Winkler) cousin Chachi Arcola. Baio appeared in 131 episodes of the classic TV hit, but early on, producers considered letting him go.

During an appearance on the Arroyo Grande podcast, Baio, 65, told host Ramond Arroyo that at one point in the late 1970s, he got too big for his britches and almost got fired.

“There was a moment in time where I got a big head, and I was doing two shows at the same," the actor shared. “One was on ABC, Happy Days, one was on NBC. And I started getting a big head because I had two shows on prime time at the same time.”

“And  I'll tell you something that a lot of people don't know is that the producers on Happy Days wanted to fire me because I was not doing my job,” Baio revealed. “I wasn't taking it seriously. I thought I was, you know, the greatest thing since sliced bread. I wasn't performing well. I just thought I could get by on being cute and, you know, and funny, and it doesn't cut it after a while.”

Scott Baio and Henry Winkler on 'Happy Days.'

Photo by ABC Photo Archives on Getty Images

Baio credited late Happy Days showrunner Garry Marshall for convincing the other producers to “let him get through it.” Marshall also went to Baio’s dad, Mario, to let him know what was going on.

“And my father came home to me, and he said, 'Listen, you got one shot at this, and you're blowing it,'" Baio continued. "He says, 'Shut up. You're blowing it. You want to go back to Brooklyn?' And I went, 'Uh, no.' He says, 'Okay, well, get your act together and get to work.' Now, when my father told me that, I had a lot of fear from my dad, which I think is a good thing.”

“So I was still the same guy, but my head got a little big and then everybody slapped it back,” Baio added.

‘Who's Watching the Kids?

Baio didn’t name the other show he was on, but in 1978, he was cast on the NBC sitcom Who’s Watching the Kids? The short-lived series about two Vegas showgirls living with their younger siblings aired from September 22, 1978, to December 15, 1978. Baio played Frankie “the Fox” Vitola in 11 episodes of the comedy series before it was quickly canceled.

Baio kept his spot on Happy Days and became so popular that he scored a spinoff with co-star Erin Moran, titled Joanie Loves Chachi. The series lasted two seasons, from 1982 to  1984, and Baio returned to Happy Days as Chachi for its final season.

Baio once admitted he should have skipped Joanie Loves Chachi. “I regret doing Joanie Loves Chachi because, you know it’s very exciting to have your own show but if I wouldn’t have done it I could have had, I could have done anything I wanted,” he once said in an interview. “So I probably would have had a full season or two-season order for anything I wanted to do after that. I was 22, 23. You want your own show but…”

Baio blamed “the setup” of the musical sitcom for its failure. “This is not taking away from Erin Moran,” the Happy Days alum added.

Best-Selling Author’s Debut Becomes 2026’s Biggest Must-Read Novel

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:32pm

There’s a new kid on the block. And he’s got everybody talking.

Meet Nelio Biedermann. The 22-year-old Swisswriter and University of Zurichstudent has quickly become one of the most talked-about new authors of 2026, thanks to his debut novel, Lázár.

A sweeping Gothic-tinged saga that blends magical realism with the upheaval of 20th-century Europe, Lázár was first published in German last year and in English this month, with critics and fans going nuts over the Lázárs, a Hungarian aristocratic family who live through the collapse of the monarchy and two world wars, tracing loss, resilience, and hope.

Inspired by Biedermann’s own family and interviews with his great-uncle, the book has drawn major critical acclaim. The Times called it a “twisted modern fairy tale,” while New York’s McNally Jackson Books praised it as a “page-turning historical epic that feels like an old master wrote it — epic in scope, but never slow.”

Critics have also noted the young author’s literary influences, from Thomas Mann to Joseph Roth, with comparisons to writers like W.G. Sebald and Bohumil Hrabal. Biedermann himself cites Christian Kracht and Toni Morrison as legends he loves.

But the buzz isn’t limited to literary critics. Singer-songwriter Patti Smith and playwright Daniel Kehlmann are among the high-profile fans praising the instant best seller as “exquisite” and “dreamlike.”

In conversation with McNally Jackson, Biedermann described his reaction to receiving a message from Smith: “It’s completely surreal,” he said. “She texted me on Instagram, and I almost fainted, of course, because what else are you going to do when Patti Smith texts you?”

So, yes, the hype is real. Lázár is quickly becoming the breakout novel everyone will be reading this year. Cue the movie deal — let's get Joe Wright on the phone.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Investigators May Be Working Suspects as Case Is ‘Anything But’ Cold, Retired Detective Says

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:29pm

Retired detective Bob Gilliam says Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains an active and evolving investigation, pushing back against speculation that the case has gone cold. Speaking during a recent panel discussion on The Interview Room, Gilliam said he believes investigators may be working potential suspects and pointed to forensic analysis as a key factor that could ultimately determine the outcome. While no arrests have been announced, he suggested the case could still move forward in the coming months—or potentially take longer to resolve.

"This is not a cold case, in my opinion," Gilliam said during the live panel. "I've heard a lot of people speculate whether or not this case has gone cold. I think it's anything but that. As I've said previously on this show, I think that FBI and the Pima detectives, the investigators on the task force, are working suspects, potentially, and it's come down to probably some form of forensic analysis that's going to make or break the case."

"Sometimes these things just take a while. I thought, initially, we would have seen arrests by now, but I'm not surprised that we haven't. And so, you know, we're just going to—I hate to say this—but we're just going to have to wait and see. And I think we will see. Probably sooner rather than later, within the next few months."

Gilliam also noted that it could even take "a couple years" for the case to be solved. "We just simply don't know," he said. Regardless, Gilliam feels confident that the case will, in fact, be solved.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Despite receiving thousands of tips, authorities have yet to name a suspect or make an arrest in the case. Moreover, Guthrie's whereabouts are still unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).
