Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI Reveals Unexpected Development in the Investigation (Report)
The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie continues as authorities work to determine what happened to the 84-year-old, who was reported missing from her Arizona home back in February.
On Tuesday, June 30, Reuters reported that the ransom notes sent about Guthrie aren't legitimate, according to an FBI official. The source said that the two notes sent to media outlets at the beginning of the investigation are bogus, as was one that was sent last week.
The first note, sent within days of Guthrie's disappearance, demanded cryptocurrency in exchange for Guthrie. Then, another note allegedly revealed that Guthrie had died and was "buried in nature." Previously, Guthrie's daughter, Savannah Guthrie, said that she and her family believed these notes were legitimate. Additionally, TMZ previously reported that the FBI had verified the notes as legitimate.

The third note deemed fake was sent by someone claiming to have information about the people responsible for the alleged kidnapping. The sender asked for one bitcoin in exchange for video evidence of Guthrie with her captor.
In an interview with Arizona radio station KVOI AM 1030's "Buckmaster Show" on June 26, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that he believed the notes were fake.
"I think the FBI has done a number of arrests for false or fake ransom notes," Nanos said, according to USA Today. "It's a shame that that happens, but I think we're looking at another one of those today with what's been reported. But we'll let the FBI do their work."
"People who call in fake ransom notes, people who claim [false information] for the sake of media and the family, they get out and disturb, in this case, an entire neighborhood," Nanos added.
While the fake ransom notes added another layer of confusion to the case, investigators continue working to uncover what happened to Guthrie. Authorities have not publicly revealed who may be responsible for her disappearance, and the search for answers remains ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call Tucson’s 88-Crime hotline at 1-520-882-7463 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Country Star, With No. 1 Hit Song Lasting 11 Weeks, Makes Billboard Charts History With Taylor Swift
Ella Langley has reached another major milestone on the Billboard Hot 100 after her hit single "Choosin' Texas" returned to the No. 1 spot for an eleventh week, setting a new record for a woman with a country hit while also making chart history alongside Taylor Swift.
The latest Billboard rankings show "Choosin' Texas" climbing back from No. 2 to reclaim the top position, ending Taylor Swift's two-week run at No. 1 with "I Knew It, I Knew You." Langley's "Be Her" also returned to No. 3, creating a historic moment on the Hot 100.
According to Billboard, this marks the first week in the chart's history that women occupy the top three positions with country songs. The milestone was made possible with Langley's "Choosin' Texas" at No. 1, Swift's "I Knew It, I Knew You" at No. 2 and Langley's "Be Her" at No. 3.

The achievement adds another historic chapter to Langley's breakout year, as the Alabama singer continues to dominate both the country and mainstream music charts.
With its eleventh week atop the Billboard Hot 100, "Choosin' Texas" becomes the longest-leading No. 1 Hot 100 hit by a woman with a country song.
The record breaks a tie with Debby Boone's 1977 classic "You Light Up My Life," which spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and also reached No. 4 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Billboard also reported that "Choosin' Texas" has now led the Hot Country Songs chart for 29 weeks.
The song has shown remarkable staying power throughout its chart run. Although several songs temporarily claimed the top position over the past several months, "Choosin' Texas" repeatedly returned to No. 1 instead of fading down the rankings.
Its latest return marks the sixth separate stay at No. 1 during a single release cycle, setting another Billboard record. The previous mark of five separate returns was shared by Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" in 2023 and Harry Styles' "As It Was" in 2022.
Overall, only Mariah Carey's holiday classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has earned more separate returns to No. 1, reaching the summit eight different times over multiple holiday seasons.
Women-Led Country Songs Rewrite Billboard HistoryThis week's Hot 100 reflects the continued strength of country music across the broader U.S. music market.
The combination of Langley's rise and Olivia Rodrigo's slight decline allowed the top three positions to be filled entirely by women performing country songs for the first time in the chart's history.
Both "Choosin' Texas" and Swift's "I Knew It, I Knew You" have already reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, which ranks country music using sales, streaming and radio airplay. Meanwhile, "Be Her" has remained just behind the top spot, with Langley's own blockbuster hit preventing it from reaching No. 1.
Langley's overall presence on the Billboard Hot 100 continues to expand beyond her two biggest singles.
This week, she places five songs on the chart. Three of those tracks appear inside the Top 10, further highlighting the growing popularity of her catalog.
Her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, "I Can't Love You Anymore," returns to the Top 10 after climbing from No. 14. Two more songs from her sophomore album Dandelion also posted gains, with "Loving Life Again" re-entering the Top 40 and "Bottom of Your Boots" moving higher on the chart.
The success extends beyond the Hot 100. Recent Billboard data showed "Choosin' Texas" earning 25.5 million official streams during the latest tracking week while also drawing 48.2 million radio audience impressions.
The single sold another 8,000 copies, climbed on the Streaming Songs chart, returned to No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart and remained atop Billboard's Songs of the Summer ranking for a fourth consecutive week.
Langley's momentum has continued away from the charts as well. She recently reunited with country star Gretchen Wilson during CMA Fest 2026, where the pair performed Wilson's signature hit "Here For The Party."
Shortly afterward, Wilson confirmed that Langley will appear on a newly recorded duet version of the song as part of a special anniversary project celebrating Wilson's debut album.
With "Choosin' Texas" rewriting the record books, multiple songs climbing the Hot 100 and another historic achievement shared with Taylor Swift, the singer continues to strengthen her position as one of the genre's fastest-rising stars.

Starbucks Debuts New Disney Tumbler—and Fans Are Racing to Get One
Summer has officially arrived, and with it comes the season of never letting your drink get warm. Between beach days, backyard hangs, theme park marathons, and long afternoons that seem to stretch on forever, a good tumbler has quietly become one of those things you don't realize you need until you're caught without one.
For the iced coffee devotees, the cold brew loyalists, and anyone who treats a chilled drink as a personal love language, the right cup is practically a summer essential. That's where Disney and Starbucks' newest find comes in.
A Haunted Mansion Starbucks tumbler is already flying off the shelves at Walt Disney World, and it is exactly the kind of piece that blurs the line between everyday drinkware and a collector's item. It's one of several items in The Haunted Mansion collection landing at the Disney Store starting July 6.
View this post on InstagramIt carries all the gothic charm of the beloved attraction without tipping into the loud, character-heavy merchandise that tends to crowd the gift shops. Instead, it leans moody and atmospheric, the sort of thing you could carry to a summer picnic or a coffee run and have people quietly wondering where you got it.
For Disney fans, the appeal runs deeper than looks. The stainless steel traveler holds a generous 24 ounces, enough to get you through a full afternoon without a refill run, and comes with a reusable straw. The tumbler is also a nod to the ride that longtime guests will clock in an instant, from its wallpaper-inspired pattern to a hidden detail near the top that pays homage to one of their most popular attractions. The Disney Store edition tops the straw with a black candelabra straw topper, a clear nod to the eerie floating candelabra from the attraction.
The verdict is already in, and it looks like shoppers are scrambling to get their hands on one. The comments have filled up with fans gushing over the design, with one writing, "This one is super cute," and another zeroing in on the craftsmanship, "The details 🤩."
Others made their intentions clear, with reactions like "Well this is a must" and another wrote, "I need one."
It carries a price tag of $59.99, and demand is already high enough that fans can add their name to a waiting list to snag one. Right now, the tumbler is a limited in-park find at Celebrity 5 & 10 in Disney's Hollywood Studios.
If you can't make it to the parks, the tumbler is also dropping on the Disney Store website on July 10 at 8 PM P.T, and these Starbucks and Disney collaborations tend to sell out within minutes, so you better be ready before they go live. So whether you are a hardcore Haunted Mansion loyalist or simply someone looking for a tumbler with a bit more personality than the rest, Starbucks and Disney may have just handed you your new favorite summer companion.

It’s always an exciting moment when two fan-favorite brands come together for a limited-time summer treat.
As recently announced, Baskin-Robbins and OREO are teaming up once again, this time rolling out the new OREO Cookie Collection, a limited-time lineup built entirely around one of America’s most iconic cookies.

But Baskin-Robbins isn’t stopping at scoops.
The OREO Cookie Collection expands into a full dessert lineup, including a Brookie Batter Sundae, an OREO S’mores Shake and even OREO-inspired ice cream cakes, giving fans multiple ways to enjoy the flavors throughout the summer.
The launch arrives just ahead of National Ice Cream Day on July 19, with Baskin-Robbins turning the celebration into a full week of deals for Rewards members.
From July 19 through July 25, members can score $5 off $20+ orders, followed by a BOGO Free Single Scoop offer beginning July 26.

1982 Classic, Written About a Continent its Songwriter Never Visited, Is One of the Most Streamed Songs Ever
Despite being inspired by a place its songwriter had never actually seen, a 1982 hit became a global phenomenon and remains one of the most-streamed songs of all time.
When Toto's band members David Paich and Jeff Porcaro combined their talents to write "Africa," little did they know that the song would continue to enthrall listeners 44 years later. The Grammy-winning hit has since become a legendary hit, introducing new generations of fans to Toto's signature sound.
According to Chartmaster, which lists the most-streamed songs of all time, "Africa" rounds out the Top 100 with a current streaming total of 2,659,200,156. The top song thus far is The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" with well over 5B streams.
While "Africa" paints a mysterious portrait of the continent, neither Paich nor Porcaro had actually visited before writing the song. Instead, they relied on books, documentaries, and their own imaginations to bring the now-iconic lyrics to life.

According to the Financial Times, Paich was always interested in the continent. As a student, he had teachers who were former missionaries who had worked in Africa. He "idealized Africa from the teachers’ stories and from copies of National Geographic magazine" for the song, which appeared on the LP Toto IV.
In an interview reprinted by Music Radar, Paich explained how he came up with the song's idea. “Over many years, I had been taken by the UNICEF ads with the pictures of Africa and the starving children. I had always wanted to do something to connect with that and bring more attention to the continent. I wanted to go there, too, so I sort of invented a song that put me in Africa.”
He added, “I was hearing the melody in my head, and I sat down and played the music in about 10 minutes. And then the chorus came out. I sang the chorus as you hear it. It was like God channeling it. I thought, ‘I'm talented, but I'm not that talented. Something just happened here!’”
In 2018, the band Weezer famously covered "Africa." It was included on their self-titled covers record, The Teal Album.
They put their own spin on the iconic song after a fan reached out to the band's frontman, Rivers Cuomo, asking them to record a version of the tune. The comment turned into a six-month social media campaign, per CBS.
However, when the band finally released a Toto cover, it wasn't "Africa." Rather, it was "Rosanna." The band trolled their fans long enough to have a good laugh before releasing the song fans wanted, which peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard Charts.
More than 40 years later, "Africa" is still finding new fans while longtime listeners continue to sing along to every word. For a song inspired by a place its writers had never visited, it has left a very real mark on music history.

I Tried the Viral Fruit Roll-Up Popsicle Trick and It Is the Ultimate Summer Treat
The Fourth of July might be one of my favorite holidays. I live in a beach town where people go all out for the holiday. There are days of fireworks, plenty of picnics, and red, white and blue everything, everywhere for weeks leading up to the Fourth. Naturally, I start planning ways to celebrate the big day early.
While I have mini flags, themed glow sticks and fun necklaces that my family whips out each year, I always like to have something new to toss into the mix. This year, it's going to be the Fruit Roll-Up popsicle.
This popsicle concoction has been popping up in my "For You" feed and it's just begging for a Fourth of July twist. It involves taking a fruit popsicle and wrapping it in a Fruit Roll-Up, because why not? While there's no exact recipe out there, I quickly learned that this is slightly harder to pull together than it looks if you want to make your pops pretty. Still, it's totally worth it. Here's why, plus how to make the Fruit Roll-Up popsicle trick the easy way.

What Is the Viral Fruit Roll-Up Popsicle Trick?Courtesy Korin Miller
The Fruit Roll-Up popsicle trick seems to have started with hairstylist Brookelyn Raymond Wilson, who shared on TikTok in late May that her "recent pregnancy craving" is a blue raspberry Fruit Roll-Up on a popsicle. (It quickly blew up from there.)
"Your baby is a genius," one person wrote in the comments. "Came back to say your child is a revolutionary innovator of their generation," another said.
@brookerayhair_ ♬ Happiness - Piero PiccioniPlenty of others have joked that it's their "pregnancy craving," even though they're not pregnant. While the original "recipe" uses a coconut popsicle, some have tried different fruit flavored popsicles to see what the flavor combination is like.

The ingredients list for this treat hack couldn't be more simple. Here's what you'll need:
- Coconut popsicles (or your flavor of choice)
- Fruit Roll-Ups

How To Make the Fruit Roll-Up PopsicleThere isn't an exact recipe floating around there, so it involves a little—but not a lot—of guesswork. To start, unwrap your Fruit Roll-Up and lay it flat.

Then, place your popsicle on top, before wrapping the Fruit Roll-Up around it. If you care about how the finished product looks (and why wouldn't you?), try to line up the end of the Fruit Roll-Up with the side of your popsicle to hide the seam.

Wrap your Fruit Roll-Up around the popsicle, tuck in the top and enjoy.

Fruit Roll-Up Popsicle Trick: My Honest ReviewI'm with the commenters on TikTok: This is a genius popsicle trick I didn't see coming. There are so many reasons that this just works.
The Fruit Roll-Up is naturally a little soft when you pull it out of the wrapper, but it immediately forms a Magic Shell-like coating when it touches the cold popsicle. That creates an extra layer of crunchiness on top of your pop that perfectly contrasts with what's slowly melting underneath. Warning: It will get drippy and messy quickly in the heat. Exhibit A:
Courtesy Korin Miller
So, eat this one fast or enjoy it in the air conditioning to avoid sticky fingers. The flavor itself is also next level. The blend of creamy coconut with a tart Fruit Roll-Up is heavenly and somehow nostalgic all in one. This treat is decadent and fun, and diving into it made me feel like a kid again—exactly how summer and the Fourth of July should feel, in my opinion.
Also, Fruit Roll-Ups come in combo packs of red (strawberry) and blue (blue raspberry), making it really simple to pick up what you need while rushing through the grocery store. As a mom of four, that's a level of convenience I can get behind.
But I got a little frustrated with this hack at first. I made it on a 95-degree day, and my popsicles weren't interested in waiting while I tried to smooth the Fruit Roll-Up over top. As a result, I went through a few messier popsicles before I figured out some hacks to get the look I wanted without everything melting along the way. (More on those in a second.)
Courtesy Korin Miller
Overall, I am absolutely making this again for the Fourth of July. It's so fun, tasty and pretty. But take a beat to think about your strategy before diving in. Otherwise, you'll end up making multiple attempts like me.

5 Fruit Roll-Up Popsicle Trick TipsThere's some strategy involved in getting this right. Once I got the system down, it was easy to make Fruit Roll-Up popsicles. But you'll want to think this through first. Here's what I recommend:
1. Keep your popsicles in the freezer until the last minuteI made the mistake of dumping mine out on the counter and working my way through them while I tried to smooth out my Fruit Roll-Ups over top. A few popsicles got overly drippy and misshapen that way. Keep each popsicle in the freezer until you're ready to wrap it.
Related: I Made a Watermelon Cake That Instantly Became a Stunning Summer Centerpiece
2. Roll out your Fruit Roll-UpsDepending on the size of your popsicle, the Fruit Roll-Ups may need to stretch a little to fully cover the pop. I ended up using a rolling pin to flatten mind a little more before wrapping the popsicle.
3. Figure out where you'll put your popsicle on the Roll-Up ahead of timeIt seems like a minor detail, but that Roll-Up will harden as soon as it touches the popsicle. As a result, it's nearly impossible to reposition it once it hits the treat. So, think before you wrap.
Related: The Genius Way to Make Strawberry Shortcake 10x Better, According to an Award-Winning Chef
4. Wrap the topI figured out that I was able to get a smoother top of my popsicles when I wrapped the top of the Fruit Roll-Up over the top of the pop, before bringing the sides around. There's nothing wrong with having the edges stick straight up instead—it's just an aesthetic choice you'll need to make in advance.
5. Freeze your popsicles againUnless you're handing out popsicles that second, put your wrapped pops back in the freezer to let them reset. It'll also allow your Fruit Roll-Up coating to become extra crunchy.

Kathy Griffin Claims She's 'Banned' From Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show' — Fans Think She Has a Point
Kathy Griffin has spent years being labeled one of Hollywood’s most controversial figures — but after her latest callout of Jimmy Fallon, many fans are taking her side.
The comedian sparked a wave of supportive reactions after claiming she hasn’t been invited back to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in more than a decade, joking that she’s “banned” from the late-night show. While Griffin’s comments centered on Fallon’s booking choices, fans quickly shifted the conversation — and many found themselves agreeing with the comedian.
"When you're banned from a show — and if you guys know me, I'm banned from most of them. You're welcome, America and Indonesia. They don't usually tell you you're banned. They just can't seem to find room for you," Griffin shared in an Instagram video.
While Griffin said she likes Fallon and that he’s "always super nice to me," she criticized his decision to book Conor McGregor for a June 16 appearance on The Tonight Show.
View this post on Instagram"I do think it was a bad call for him to have convicted rapist Conor McGregor on," she said. "I think the Fallon folks made a mistake by having Conor McGregor on. I think it sends yet another message to women and marginalized folks everywhere that we're not equal and you can do anything to us, and the perpetrators are still going to be out there being glorified."
McGregor has faced years of controversy stemming from legal issues, violent incidents, and offensive remarks. He was found civilly liable in Ireland over a 2018 sexual assault case, a verdict later upheld on appeal. The UFC fighter has also been involved in high-profile altercations, including throwing a metal dolly at a bus containing rival fighters and an assault conviction related to a Dublin pub incident. McGregor has additionally faced criticism for offensive language and remarks described as racist, homophobic, and aggressive.
Griffin added that Fallon’s decision reminded her of the late-night host’s infamous 2016 interview with Donald Trump, during which Fallon playfully touched Trump’s hair.
"It kind of reminds me of when Fallon had [Donald Trump] on and then he petted [his] hair, or as I call it, bird's nest. I don't know, that didn't sit well with me. I didn't like when Lorne Michaels had [Trump] host [Saturday Night Live]... I think it's time we kind of make up our minds about who we're going to cancel it and who we're not. Take it from the most canceled celebrity in history — look it up. As the kids say, do better."
Fans quickly flooded Griffin’s post with support, with one commenter writing, "What worries me is how many women did Jimmy put in danger, by presenting Mr. McGregor, as somebody who is safe to be around. Women who might’ve avoided him might now feel it is being alone with him when they should absolutely be terrified of the idea and avoid him at all costs."
Others focused on Fallon himself, with several commenters saying they no longer watch his show because they don’t find it funny. Many also praised Griffin for speaking out. "I love that you tell the truth and pull no punches. That’s why I will be your fan for life!" one fan wrote.
Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the U.S.A.' Once Named Billboard's No. 1 July 4 Song
Few songs are as closely associated with the Fourth of July as Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." But for decades, it's also been one of the most misunderstood hits in American music.
Now, the 1984 classic has earned another patriotic distinction.
In a 2025 roundup of the 40 Best America Songs for July 4th, Billboard ranked "Born in the U.S.A." at No. 1, calling it the ultimate soundtrack for Independence Day celebrations.
The choice may surprise some listeners who know the song's true meaning.
With its booming chorus and stadium-sized production, "Born in the U.S.A." is often mistaken for a straightforward patriotic anthem.
But Springsteen, 76, has long said the song tells a far more complicated story, following a Vietnam War veteran who returns home only to face unemployment, isolation and a country that has failed to support him. Rather than celebrating America unconditionally, the lyrics examine the gap between the nation's ideals and the experiences of many of its veterans.
Despite (or perhaps because of) that complexity, the song has become an enduring Fourth of July staple.
Released as the title track from Springsteen's blockbuster Born in the U.S.A.album, the single helped propel the record to worldwide success. The album produced seven Top 10 hits, transformed Springsteen into a global superstar and remains one of the defining releases of the 1980s.
Billboard's list celebrates songs that have become synonymous with America in different ways, whether through patriotism, cultural identity or commentary on the American experience. "Born in the U.S.A." topped the ranking ahead of classics and modern favorites alike, underscoring its lasting place in the country's musical landscape.
More than 40 years after its release, the song continues to spark conversations every July. Some hear an arena-ready celebration of America, while others recognize the deeper message woven into Springsteen's lyrics.
Either way, "Born in the U.S.A." remains one of the most recognizable songs ever written about America, and according to Billboard, it's still the one to beat when the fireworks begin.
'80s Rock Legend Makes First Live Appearance Since Major Health Scare
Jello Biafra, the punk rock legend and former member of Dead Kennedys, surprised fans with an unexpected performance.
Months after the iconic figure suffered a major health scare, the 68-year-old hit the stage in style.
An Instagram update shared by the independent label Alternative Tentacles, founded by Biafra, featured the musician’s first live performance since suffering a stroke.
On June 27, the former Dead Kennedys lead singer took the stage at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco for TentacleFest.
The "Holiday in Cambodia" singer turned heads wearing a military-style hat, a long black robe over a black undergarment and a black leather strap draped across his chest.
Biafra joined the experimental punk band Wheelchair Sports Camp for a striking performance of "Make It Make Sense," from the album oh imperfecta by the Denver-based band.

“Not only was TentacleFest was an amazing show, it also featured the return of Jello Biafra to the stage! Check out this clip of Jello coming out to sing “Make It Make Sense” with Wheelchair Sport Camp! Thank you to Crisis Actor for the clip!,” the caption reads.

Huge thank you to our amazing bands Wheelchair Sports Camp, Death Hymn Number Nine, Voodoo 5, Vic Bondi And His Issues and Crisis Actor for their incredible performances!” the post stated.
View this post on InstagramOn March 7, Biafra experienced a hemorrhagic stroke due to high blood pressure.
At the time, he collapsed shortly after getting out of bed and noticed numbness affecting the left side of his body.
Meanwhile, the news was confirmed by Alternative Tentacles Records on Instagram, which also assured fans that the musician was stable and “very thankful he is okay and getting the care that he needs.”
In addition, Biafra delivered a playful yet heartfelt message to fans, expressing that he was ready for his recovery journey.
”I hopped out of my bed because I needed to pee, and my left leg just collapsed under me and I fell to the floor,” he said, adding, “I couldn’t even break the fall with my left arm because it wasn’t working either. I tried to hop back up again, and I couldn’t. I realized I had ‘fallen and I can’t get up!’ It was at this point I thought, ‘Oh no, I’m having a stroke!’ I still have a lot of great stuff in me, but right now I gotta lotta of rehabbing to do.”
Two months after the incident, it was revealed that he was "progressing nicely," especially with his speech.
With his first performance since the stroke, fans may soon see more of the former Dead Kennedys frontman on stage.

Best-Selling 2023 Romantasy Hit is Still Ranked a ‘Most Read Book of the Year’ According to Goodreads
Author Rebecca Yarros began writing novels while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan. Upon hearing that her publisher was going to start a line for fantasy romance novels (known amongst readers as "romantasy") Yarros immediately submitted five different ideas for consideration. Her Empyrean series was selected after several reviews, and the idea behind what would become the smash hit Fourth Wing took flight.
The inspiration behind the Empyrean series came from Yarros' husband's military experience, her love of fantasy and dragons, as well as her own life living with chronic illness. Yarros (as well as some of her children) lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and wanted to show that she could write a heroine who was both fragile and strong, all at once.
Fourth Wing, the first book in the series, was released on May 2nd, 2023. The book became a viral sensation on BookTok, with hashtags for Yarros and the title having over a billion views on social media. The virality led the book to shoot to the top of the New York Times bestseller list, where it would stay for 18 weeks.
The popularity for the book has not died down in the last three years, and it is still a "Most Read Book of the Year" in 2026 according to Goodreads. As of the middle of the year, readers have "shelved" Fourth Wing almost half a million times in 2026.
View this post on InstagramFourth Wing has been credited with popularizing the "romantasy" genre, given its ability to combine steamy, sultry romance with high-stakes, complex fantasy.
The Empyrean series follows Violet Sorrengail, the daughter of General Sorrengail, as she enrolls in the Basgiath War College which her mother leads to become a dragon rider in the kingdom of Navarre. At the school, students choose to join one of four different military branches: Infantry, Healer, Scribe, or Rider.
Despite training for her entire life to be a Scribe by her late father, Violet’s mother, the General, orders her to join the Riders—the wing at the school known for being the most deadly for new recruits. Violet must bond with a dragon and survive deadly quests and competitions against other recruits of the Fourth Wing. Along the way she reconnects with her childhood crush, Dain Aetos, and meets Xaden Riorson, a powerful third year whose father was executed by Violet’s mother during the Navarre’s rebellion. Despite all odds, Violet bonds with dragons Tairn and Andarna, and begins to uncover the truth about the rebellion and the re-emerging revolution.
The second book in the Empyrean series, Iron Flame, was released in November of 2023, which was followed by the third, Onyx Storm, in 2025. Yarros has plans for two more books in the series as well as a novella, but no additional release dates have been set as of yet.
Fourth Wing and its respective sequels are available now wherever books are sold.

'YMCA' Singer Dies at 74 After Brief Illness
One of the members of the iconic 1970s disco group, The Village People, has died at the age of 74 after a brief illness.
The band's official Facebook page announced that Victor Willis, who regularly dressed as the group's policeman, has passed away.
The message read, "We are profoundly sad to announce the death of Victor Willis, lead singer of Village People. Victor passed on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, of a short but aggressive illness. Privacy is requested."
His wife, Karen Huff Willis, shared the following statement on Willis' Facebook page. She wrote, "It is with profound sadness that I must announce the death of my husband, Victor Willis. Victor passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as a result of a short but aggressive illness. The family requests privacy at this time of great loss."

Willis was one of the group's original members alongside Felipe Rose, Alex Briley, Glenn Hughes, David Hodo, and Randy Jones. He wrote some of the Village People's biggest hits, including "Y.M.C.A.," "Go West," and "In the Navy."
Variety reported that Willis grew up in San Francisco, California, and trained in singing and dance. He relocated to New York City, where he joined the original cast of Broadway's The Wiz, where he met his first wife, Cosby Show star Phylicia Rashad.
While living in New York City, Willis was introduced to French disco producer Jacques Morali. Morali, along with his business partner Henri Belolo and Willis, created the Village People in 1977.
The singing group would go on to score some of the biggest hits of the disco era. Their instantly recognizable costumes became just as iconic as their music, helping cement their place as one of the most memorable acts of the 1970s.
In 2019, the Library of Congress added Y.M.C.A. to its National Recording Registry. The song remains one of fewer than 40 singles to have sold more than ten million physical copies. One year later, the 1978 song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, per Deadline.
Willis said of his most beloved hit, "For me, YMCA was about, like the last line says, 'They can start you back on your way'. A person could go stay at the Ritz Carlton or the Hilton, or these expensive hotels. But if you don't have that kind of money, you might have to go to the Y."

Celebrity River Cruises Announces New Premium City Extensions for European Sailings
Planning a European river cruise usually comes with one major logistical headache: what to do with those few days before or after you actually board the ship. Most travelers end up booking a generic hotel package, dragging bags through train stations and guessing their way through a new city with a standard guidebook.
Celebrity Cruises is officially changing that with the launch of Before and After Stays. These are two- or three-night city extensions in Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam and Lausanne that are designed to act as a premium, entirely stress-free extension of the cruise experience itself.
The program introduces what Celebrity calls Discovery Collection tours. These are experiences built around each city's most rare and authentic stories, and every stay includes one of these tours per day. Instead of being led by traditional tour guides, small groups are paired with Local Storytellers—hometown experts who act like trusted friends and know the city better than any book.
Celebrity cruises
Travelers get to choose from at least three themed tour options each day, allowing them to explore at their own pace based on whether their interests lean toward local food, deep-cut history, or regional art.
During a preview of the program in Amsterdam, I saw firsthand how these experiences bypass typical tourist hubs to get to the heart of local life. A local contemporary artist leads guests through the city’s underground street art scene, visiting vibrant creative districts and evolving walls. The experience wraps up with guests actually picking up a spray can to co-create a piece on the wall themselves, shifting them from passive observers into active participants.
In Prague, the options are just as immersive. If you are drawn to history and mystery, you can follow the mystical trail of alchemists and ancient scholars through Gothic spires and hidden symbols.

For history buffs who want an even deeper experience, you can descend into Prague's shadowed defenses—exploring medieval walls, secret bunkers, and Cold War shelters that witnessed centuries of survival. For those who best discover a destination through food and drink culture, you can trace the city's soul through centuries of Czech beer heritage and historic taverns.
"Every element of a Celebrity River Cruises sailing is designed to bring guests closer to Europe's culture, history and people, onboard and ashore," said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises. "Our Before and After Stays are more than an extension of a Celebrity River Cruises vacation; these stays are designed to deepen connection—to the cities, to the people who bring them to life, and to each other—leaving guests with the kind of stories and feelings that only come from truly getting close to a place."
The best part for anyone who hates organizing trips is that the entire middle section of the vacation is handled. Celebrity coordinates the boutique premium or ultra-premium hotel stays, daily breakfast, luggage transfers and the ride directly to or from the ship. The program also partners with regional organizations and small businesses to support local artisans, farmers, and cultural institutions along the way.
The extensions are officially open for booking now, starting with the Prague and Budapest options for the 2027 river season, followed by Amsterdam and Lausanne for 2028. It’s a massive relief for anyone who wants to deeply explore Europe's biggest cultural hubs without the stress of playing travel agent to do it.

Child Psychologist Explains What It Really Means When Kids Collect Random Objects
If you walk into a child’s room, there’s a good chance that you’ll spot one or more collections proudly displayed. Whether it’s rocks or seashells or action figures, there seems to be an intrinsic connection between being a kid and collecting random objects. As Psychology Today reports, at least 30 to 40 percent of children collect something, but that number may be even closer to 80 percent.
“Collecting can be an indicator of healthy development, and often begins around age six,” Leslie Taylor, PhD, psychologist and director of child services for the UTHealth Houston Trauma and Resilience Center, tells Parade. “This is a practice through which children can learn to categorize, develop expertise in a particular topic area, build their identity and execute organization skills.”
She adds that oftentimes, children use their collections to express aspects of their identities.
“It’s a subtle but important way of showing others who they are, what interests them and what they take pride in," she explains. "It could be rocks, seashells, acorns, paperclips or pencils. Items may be chosen for sensory reasons. Rocks or seashells, for example, come in all sort of shapes, colors, textures and patterns. These preferences and attention to detail are an expression of the child’s interests and identity.”
Additionally, she reveals that collecting can be a reflection of a child’s cognitive skills and their sense of control. Ahead, we’ll go more into these aspects and share the benefits of children creating collections.
Related: We Asked 3 Child Psychologists What Compliment Is Best for Kids—They All Said the Same Thing
According to Dr. Taylor, collecting is an example of something that she refers to as a schema.
“A schema is a mental pattern or theme that helps children test ideas and understand how things work,” she tells Parade. “It’s a repeated pattern children use to investigate the world around them.”
That means that when children collect, although the items may seem random, it can showcase their cognitive development.
“They’re noticing what items have in common, what makes them different and how they fit into their growing picture of the world,” she says. “Collections often also come with a wealth of stories, like when the item was found and why it was chosen. Sharing these stories supports development of vocabulary and language skills.”
Related: 6 Ways To Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children or Grandchildren
If a child is constantly picking up random objects, you may believe that something deeper going on. In fact, it’s not only adults who hoard—it can be children, too. But there are distinct differences between simply collecting and hoarding. According to Dr. Taylor, collecting and hoarding are different, and parents may want to review their child’s actions for this distinction.
She says, “A collection has thematic coherence, and children often take pride in their collections. They want to share them with others. Hoarding is inherently different. Children may be collecting any items they believe will be useful to them in the future without organization of coherence (i.e. random items are in a pile on the floor).”
A couple indicators of childhood hoarding may be that they feel embarrassed or uncomfortable allowing people to see or handle items from their collections.
“Children may also have minimal understanding of why they’re collecting these items,” Dr. Taylor explains. “They also show increased anxiety when others touch or take these items without their permission, which could be an indication that children need intervention.”
As research says, around two percent of adolescents display clinical levels of hoarding.
What Are the Benefits of Collecting Random Objects?Although collecting can, in rare cases, indicate hoarding, most of the time, it’s actually a really positive thing.
“Starting and maintaining a collection can result in stress reduction, enhanced cognitive function, social connection and achievement,” Dr. Taylor points out.
“There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes with developing and curating a collection," she continues. "In some cases, collections can signify emotional processing. They may be a means of connecting with a lost loved one or function as a way of memorializing that person. All of these benefits support healthy development in children and adolescents.”

1978 Hit, Originally 9 Minutes Long, Was This Legendary Rock Band’s Final No. 1 U.S. Single
Born out of a jam session between Mick Jaggerand Billy Preston, the song "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones became the first single for the Some Girls album. Keith Richards ended up being credited as a co-writer on the track, as was the case with all originals by The Stones.
There is some discrepancy within the band about what type of song they'd conceived. Richards was adamant that they handed created a disco track, whereas Jagger insisted the song was a fabulous disco number saying, "'Miss You' was a damn good disco record; it was calculated to be one."
Regardless, what was happening in dance clubs and discos at the time heavily influenced the track with the song featuring several studio musicians unlike most other Stones songs. Bassist Bill Wyman claimed the riff he put in "Miss You" was copied for an entire year after the fact by everyone from Rod Stewart to "every band in the world."
The original recording of "Miss You" clocked in at over nine minutes long but was edited down to five minutes for the album, and three-and-a-half minutes for the radio version. Separate mixes were constructed and then edited for continuity's sake when constructing the edited versions for radio.
"Miss You" was released on May 10th, 1978 and went on to be the last number-one single in the United States for The Rolling Stones. The song hit the top five on the charts in August of 1978, and it peaked at number three in the United Kingdom.
Multiple live versions of "Miss You" have been recorded over the years. A first was captured during the Rolling Stones' 1989–1990 Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour and was included on the 1991 live album, Flashpoint. The November 1981 performance included on Let's Spend the Night Together was also recorded, as was the July 1995 performances released on Totally Stripped in 2016.
When creating their list of the "500 Best Songs of All Time," Rolling Stone magazine listed "Miss You" at 498.

1977 Live Rock Classic, Lasting Over 8 Minutes, Was Reimagined From Blues Legend's 1954 Hit
In 1977, Foghat had an unexpected hit with the song “I Just Want to Make Love to You.”
The live version of the song peaked at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1977, five years after the original version opened the English rocker band's debut 1972 album.
"I Just Want to Make Love to You" was a cover of the 1954 Top 4 R&B hit written by blues legend Willie Dixon and recorded by Muddy Waters under the title “Just Make Love to Me.”
But Foghat’s version, from the album Foghat Live, gave the song a hard rock twist. The track recorded at the Dome Arena in Henrietta, New York, featured a blistering slide guitar solo performed by founding Foghat guitarist Rod Price, which extended the song to over eight and a half minutes.
In an interview with Gary James’ Classic Bands, Foghat drummer Roger Earl looked back on the song’s origin story. “’I Just Want to Make Love to You’ was written by Willie Dixon. It was first recorded by Muddy Waters,” he noted.
In a separate interview with Vintage Rock, Earl revealed the band was lucky enough to later meet Dixon and jam with him.
“That was absolutely one of the musical highlights of my life,” he shared. “Back in ’78, we were doing the Stone Blue Tour. ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’ came out on our first album… and was the single release on Foghat Live. Willie Dixon was, of course, the writer, and unlike some others I won’t mention that would steal his songs, we credited Willie with the songs, and for nearly eight years, he was getting all this money from a band called Foghat because we credited him, rightly, for the song.”
Foghat had been playing a series of shows in Chicago when Dixon and his wife stopped by to meet them backstage.
“Willie was very funny and very gracious,” Earl continued. “They invited us to his house next time we were coming to Chicago. The next time we were in town, we went to Willie’s house over on the south side and hung out ’til like three or four in the morning, drinking and eating and singing and everybody playing guitar and piano… all of us and everyone in his family played and sang too. We talked about blues artists he’d known over the years, and played the old 78-rpm records of the blues guys. It was thrilling to meet one of our heroes. He was a very genuine and great man. We certainly weren’t let down.”

Foghat also had the opportunity to play with Waters during the "Foghat Blues Tribute" fundraiser at the Palladium in New York City in late 1977.
“We put on a show with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Paul Butterfield, Johnny Winter, Eddie ‘Bluesman’ Kirkland, Otis Blackwell, Honey Boy Edwards and others, and we were basically the house band for the night,“ he recalled.
“It was such a highlight of our careers, and my life… playing 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' with Muddy, John Lee Hooker and backing up Paul Butterfield and Johnny and all of them,” the Foghat legend added. “Without any doubt, it was the highlight of my music career.”

1939 Beloved Movie Officially Ranked the 'Greatest Fantasy Film of All Time'
I am unabashedly one of the biggest fantasy movie nerds I know. As a little girl, I'd often sit in the park looking out at the trees, hoping I'd see a fairy whiz out from behind a bush or catch a gnome scampering across the forest floor. My head was always in the clouds, and as an adult, I am 90% proud of still being that way (and maybe 10% embarrassed). I can, without a doubt, trace it back to a movie that was on repeat in my house: The Wizard of Oz.
The 1939 film, which has inspired film lovers for 87 years, was recently named the "Greatest Fantasy Movie of All Time" by the American Film Institute, ranking number one among 100 beloved films. Other notable films, such as The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and It's a Wonderful Life (1946), also made the top 10. AFI defines the genre as films in which "live-action characters inhabit imagined settings and/or experience situations that transcend the rules of the natural world," and The Wizard of Oz undoubtedly fits that description to a-T.
The Film's Humble OriginsIn 1900, author L. Frank Baum penned this children's classic as one of the first distinctly American novels. The premise of people already having what they perceived they lacked felt particularly poignant during this tumultuous time in history, and it spawned a fan base that has lasted over 126 years.
Almost instantly, it began to be adapted into other media. By 1902, it became a stage play. When the novel was adapted into a film in 1939, the plucky heroine was played by the brilliant Judy Garland. The Wizard of Oz was actually a box-office disappointment during its 1939 run due to its massive production budget and the constraints of WWII. It didn't become an undisputed cultural juggernaut until its annual television broadcasts began in 1956.
In 1964, The Wizard of Oz co-stars Garland and Ray Bolger, who played the Scarecrow, reunited on her variety show and openly discussed the film's and book's impact on them.
“I was brought up on the books of The Wizard of Oz, and my mother told me that these were great philosophies," Bolger said. "There’s a very simple philosophy that everybody has a heart. That everybody had a brain. And everybody had courage. These were the gifts that are given to us on this earth, and if you use them properly, you reach the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And that pot of gold was a home. And home isn’t just a house or an abode, it’s people who love you and that you love. That’s a home.”

The Wizard of Oz TodayThe book and film went on to inspire other offshoots, such as the book Wicked, which was recently adapted into a successful film franchise starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Wicked did not have such a rough transition; it earned $758 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in box-office history, according to Variety.
Even today, Las Vegas' most renowned venue, The Sphere, is still offering visitors an immersive experience based on the film, where moviegoers can feel like they are actually walking along the yellow brick road with Dorothy and Toto.
A film that has inspired that much whimsy for that many years totally deserves this high accolade from AFI.
