‘70s Teen Idol Remembered as Fans Mark What Would Have Been His 76th Birthday

David Cassidy was honored by fans 76 years after his birth. The beloved actor and singer, who rose to fame in the 1970s on the hit TV show The Partridge Family, died in 2017. But nine years later, fans paid tribute to him on social media on his April 12 birthdate.

In a comment on Cassidy’s Facebook fan page, one fan wrote, “Happy Heavenly Birthday, David! I grew up listening to your incredible voice, watching you on The Partridge Family and being a member of your fan club. You will always be remembered and a part of our lives. “

“Listening to David this morning... Such a beautiful young man and voice - simply engaging,” another wrote. “You will never be forgotten.”

“Ever since I became a fan, I celebrate his birthday every year," a third fan wrote.

"Still watching The Partridge Family, where David will forever be 22. Wonderful memories. We remember you, David, on your birthday,” another fan added.

Another Facebook post revealed that Cassidy would be remembered on his birthday during a church service near his childhood home in West Orange, New Jersey. “David was baptized, attended bible study classes, was lead soloist in the junior choir, and was a congregation member of Holy Trinity Church,” the post read.

Cassidy was bigger than the Beatles at the height of his fame

Cassidy was born on April 12, 1950, to actors Jack Cassidy and Evelyn Ward. In 1970, he was cast on The Partridge Family alongside his then-stepmother Shirley Jones.

Cassidy's real singing voice was heard on the made-for-TV hit songs “I Think I Love You,” "Doesn’t Somebody Want to be Wanted,” and “I Woke Up in Love This Morning.” By the time The Partridge Family ended in 1974, Cassidy was one of the biggest teen idols in the world, traveling the world on a stadium tour.

In the A&E documentary David Cassidy: The Last Session, Cassidy’s co-star Danny Bonaduce revealed, “His fan club was bigger than the Beatles’ and Elvis’s put together.”

Cassidy relished in the adulation—at first. In a 1972 interview with Rolling Stone, he shared, “There’s one song I do, ‘I Woke Up in Love This Morning,’ and I find a little place where I can sort of point to [the fans]. And they each think I mean them, and I do. Whew, I can’t wait. Let me get out there. Let me do it!”

“It’s a high going out on that stage. You look around, and it’s all there for you, people loving you like that,” he added.

His final years

Cassidy ultimately suffered from burnout and stepped away from the spotlight for a bit in the mid-1970s. He later returned to acting and to his music career.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cassidy said he didn’t like being pigeonholed with the “teen Idol” label. “I always back away from labels, as I think it inhibits your creativity and your opportunities,” he said. "Don’t call me a heartthrob. Don’t call me a sex symbol. Call me a writer, a singer, a producer, an actor. Tell me I’m bad, tell me I’m lousy. But don’t call me that.”

Cassidy died of organ failure on Nov. 21, 2017. But he entertained fans right up until his death. In one of his final interviews before his passing, Cassidy, 67, appeared on the Children of Song podcast and revealed his plans for retirement.

"Well, 49 years is a long career," Cassidy said. "'Believe it or not, because I traveled so much but only for work, I'm going to take a long trip, vacation, and actually see some of the places I thought were great."

After a Spinal Cord Injury Left a Marine Dad of 6 Paralyzed, He Found Purpose in Inspiring Others

Not many people know what they want to be when they grow up with absolute certainty, but Sherman Gillums Jr. knew he was destined for the Marine Corps. At just 16, he made the decision, and on his 17th birthday, he underwent the full physical and mental evaluation. From then on, his life seemed like a straight path that led him to serve for 12 years. At 29, when Gillums was in prime marathon-running form, life as he knew it changed forever.

Gillums was involved in a triple rollover crash after being cut off by a semi-truck that swerved into his lane to avoid hitting another car that was trying to catch his exit.

"I was unconscious for three days and woke up in a new body," Gillums tells Parade. "I was a day or two away from checking into my new unit, 1st Marine Division, which was set to deploy to Afghanistan."

A New Way of Life

Faced with a new reality, the Marine initially wasn't sure what to make of his life.

"You hear all the statistics about the slight chance that you won’t fall into the majority of injury cases," he recalls. "So that small chance, even if it’s only a point percentage, becomes what you hang your hope on. I was too early in the injury to understand the full extent. It would take me about a month or two to realize how limited I’d be in my new body, and after several months, I slowly began to accept that this is what life was going to look like going forward."

His military training came in clutch here, not just with his physical capabilities but his mental fortitude. He found a way to carry out all of his "normal" functions by approaching them from alternative angles or by implementing tools that enabled him to be independent.

"The first thing you learn when you become paralyzed is the importance of having foresight and thinking creatively about how to carry out tasks that could someday become a matter of life or death," he explains. "I got to this point by watching a lot of people who were in a similar circumstance and maintaining a willingness to try just about anything until I made it work, no matter how long it took, how many times I had fallen backward, or how hard it appeared to be."

Also, having four sons and two daughters helped keep him focused and on track. After all, they needed him no matter how difficult life was. In that steadfast accountability to them, he was able to truly show up for himself.

"I couldn’t get caught up in how bad a day was going because my wheelchair was broken or maybe I felt disrespected at a store because someone parked in the only remaining accessible spot with no placard or indication of a disability," he says of being a father while navigating a disability. "They only know me in a wheelchair, so to them I was normal. I attended parent-teacher conferences and sporting events, and maintained order and structure in the house, just like any other dad."

A New Purpose

The thing about Gillums is that nothing has ever stopped him from being the 16-year-old kid who felt that inner drive to make a difference. Post-spinal cord injury, he has accomplished more in his life than many typically able-bodied people.

In addition to earning his doctorate, Gillums has also written books and transitioned from seeking assistance at Paralyzed Veterans of America to overseeing its architecture and vocational services. Eventually, he rose to his current role as Senior Director of Public Policy and Advocacy at The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

In this capacity, he leads national advocacy efforts to advance research and dismantle the "invisible" barriers of societal apathy and physical inaccessibility, utilizing a leadership style forged in the Marine Corps that he says has "continued to pay dividends in just about every leadership role" he has held since his honorable discharge.

Rather than simply rescuing others, Sherman focuses on empowering individuals to choose their own independence, driven by the firm conviction that "life is meant to be lived, not survived, and that includes persons who overcome the challenge of starting down a new path when they find themselves with a spinal cord injury."

That doesn't mean his life is easy by any means. Gillums struggles with consistent nerve pain and working through troubling thoughts, but he focuses on finding peace for himself and others by aiming to inspire "every waking minute," whether they have spinal cord issues or not. He emphasizes that struggle comes in all shapes and sizes, and recognizing that shared humanity has made a huge difference in his life.

"I use the term 'every waking minute' a lot because there’s hardly ever a moment when you’re not confronted with some aspect of living with a spinal cord injury that tries to distract you from the ordinary aspects of getting up, getting kids ready for school, getting ready for work, and simply going through the day doing what everyone else does," he says.

"There’s someone on earth who went through exactly what you went through and found a way, so reclaiming your life is about being diligent in the pursuit of what that means for you, starting with constantly enhancing your value to yourself and others in a way that gives you purpose."

1954 Rock and Roll Song Became an Iconic Party Anthem 72 Years Ago

“Shake, Rattle, and Roll” is a timeless party song that still gets crowds onto the dance floor to this day. The original track was created 72 years ago. It was recorded in New York City on February 15, 1954 by Big Joe Turner and released in April of the same year. The song, which popularized the phrase, became an instant hit. It ended up reaching No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 22 on the Billboard singles chart.

Although Big Joe Turner was originally known as a rhythm and blues singer, this song is credited with influencing the mainstream rock and roll genre. As one of the comments underneath a video from his Rhythm & Blues Revue performance says, “I know people say this isn't rock but it is. Rock doesn't require an electric guitar.” Another said, “Big Joe rules! One of the finest examples of rock and roll being born from the blues.”

The song was written by Jesse Stone, who is usually credited as "Charles Calhoun." He is also responsible for writing "Money Honey" by The Drifters. His compositions are known for shaping the style of early rock and roll.

Many different artists have performed “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” over the years. Bill Haley & His Comets recorded a cover version in 1954. This became the signature theme song and victory song for the Springfield Indians and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. Elvis also covered the song in 1956.

Big Joe Turner was an iconic performer from Kansas City, Missouri. Over his career, he had other hits like "Flip, Flop and Fly," "Honey Hush," and "Chains of Love." He won the Esquire magazine award for male vocalist in 1945 and the Melody Maker award for best new vocalist of 1956.

Turner died of heart failure in 1985 when he was 74. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Two years before his death, he was also inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.

When you ask chefs about boxed cake mix, you might expect a polite dismissal, but the reality is far more interesting. Across the board, the chefs we spoke to didn’t just tolerate boxed mixes—they embraced them, with a few strong opinions about what separates a good one from a great one.

And surprisingly, a clear theme emerged—the best boxed cake mixes, according to the pros, are the ones that include pudding in the mix. That one small detail, they say, is the difference between a decent cake and one that’s irresistibly moist, tender and bakery-worthy.

The Best Store-Bought Cake Mix, According to 3 Chefs

Chef Julie Lopez keeps it practical when it comes to her go-to picks. She regularly reaches for brands like Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker or Pillsbury—especially Funfetti—because they’re reliable, affordable and easy to find. But her biggest tip? Choose a boxed mix that has pudding in the mix, or she suggests to "mix in a box of pudding,” noting that it’s her secret to consistently moist cakes.

Agreeing that reliability is a major advantage, Chef Jennifer Struik also points to texture as a key factor. While she’s loyal to Pillsbury Funfetti for its iconic flavor, she highlights how certain mixes stand out for their consistency, including Betty Crocker’s Super Moist line. That signature softness, she notes, is hard to beat—even compared to some from-scratch versions.

“Whichever is the least expensive and has pudding in the mix,” says Chef Tessa Nguyen, taking an even more direct approach—she doesn’t prioritize brand as much as she does what’s inside the box. She emphasizes that this feature creates a cake so fluffy and tender that people will immediately notice the difference.

For her, boxed mixes shine when time is tight. “Baking is a science…boxed mixes are perfected to yield delicious results every time.”

Struik often keeps her upgrades minimal, maybe adding a splash of vanilla, and prefers to focus her energy on homemade frosting instead. “You know exactly what you are getting every time,” she says, especially in recipes like poke cakes where the base needs to absorb flavor without falling apart.

Nguyen frequently incorporates overripe fruit, like mashed bananas, to give boxed mixes a unique twist, blurring the line between classic cake and something more inventive. For her, the appeal is simple: boxed mixes are convenient, approachable and deliver consistent results without the stress of precision baking.

Taken together, their insights reveal a surprisingly unified perspective. While brand loyalty and flavor preferences vary, all three chefs point to pudding-enhanced mixes as the real standout in the boxed cake aisle.

Choosing a cruise cabin is about more than just finding a place to sleep and shower; it’s about selecting a home base that won’t feel like a pressure cooker after three days at sea. Having taken over 50 cruises worldwide, I consistently select staterooms with balconies on top cruise lines such as Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages. With the debut of the Norwegian Lunain Miami this month, I recently had the chance to experience the ship’s Family Balcony Stateroom category firsthand during the ship's christening as a travel writer and cruise expert. Located on a massive 3,565-passenger vessel, these rooms are designed with a specific multigenerational logic, but the reality of four people in 231 square feet requires a bit of a strategy.

While the stateroom is your sanctuary, the ship itself is designed as the ideal family-friendly playground. As the newest addition to the "Prima Plus" class, the Luna officially debuted in Miami this month, bringing several first-of-its-kind attractions to the high seas. The headliner is undoubtedly the Aqua Slidecoaster, a hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide that uses magnetic lift technology to propel riders through two distinct courses.

Beyond the adrenaline, the ship leans heavily into multigenerational fun with zones like the Luna Midway, an outdoor carnival-inspired space, Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course designed for kids and adults, Horizon Park, the recreational area with lawn-style games, and the Glow Court, a high-tech digital sports complex. For entertainment, the Luna is currently "striking gold" with its brand-new production, Elton: A Celebration, alongside fan-favorite tributes to Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles at Syd Norman’s Pour House.

Here's what I loved, liked and didn't love about the family balcony staterooms:

Norwegian Cruise Line

The design of this stateroom and the layout felt spacious, comfortable and enjoyable for a short stay. It features a comfy king-sized bed that can be split into two twins and a full-size sofa bed that serves as a tangible upgrade from the lower-end options found on older ships. But, the truth is that sofa bed sleeping likely isn't going to be as comfortable as a bed, so keep that in mind if you are the one designated to spend your nights there.

The desk in the cabin serves as both a vanity and a workstation, and the bedside tables provide additional storage, which was an added convenience. There’s also a refrigerator, high-end hairdryer and ample electronic outlets, which I found especially pleasing in the stateroom.

The cabin’s closet stood out with three wardrobe sections, shelves, wire drawers, a spacious hanging area and sliding doors for easy storage. Flexible shelving allowed customization for different needs, and the full-length mirror and safe completed the setup. While I noticed the closet doors could be somewhat challenging to slide at times—so be sure to keep little hands away from playing there—the storage was efficient, and NCL provided extra hooks on the wall, so there’s no need to bring your own.

“This family balcony cabin sleeps up to four people and is definitely one I recommend for families traveling together," says Kelly Connor, a travel agent with AAA Club Alliance Inc. in Marlton, New Jersey. "It’s a great option for parents or grandparents traveling with a teen, as it’s close to the teen activities area of the ship. It also makes a great choice if that teen wants to bring along a friend as well, due to the large sofa bed. Families with younger children love the sofa bed option, too.”

A "Winning" Bathroom Design The bathroom in the cabin is sleek and features a glass shower, storage options and large mirror.

The bathroom in our cabin was a legitimate highlight. The shower featured a sliding glass door, which reduced the annoying problem of the floor flooding—a common issue I have experienced on other cruise lines that provide rounded shower doors. "I particularly like the larger bathroom with the shower featuring sliding glass doors," says Connor. "That alone is a winning feature of this family balcony category on Luna." The shower also offered press-enhanced options, which was a nice touch that added to the "upgraded" feel of the space.

Security and the Balcony Experience

Outside, the balcony featured two comfortable chairs and a small table, offering a private space to enjoy the ocean views. I also want to mention a key safety measure: there's a lock/unlock switch to open the balcony door. This can provide a layer of security and peace of mind if you are traveling with young sailors.

However, it is important to note that not all balconies are created equal. I was a bit disappointed because our view was partially obstructed. To the left and straight on, there were ocean views, but to the right, all we saw were other staterooms and a section of the water slide. While young travelers might get excited about seeing the Aqua Slidecoaster from their room, if you are paying for clear sea views, be sure to ask your travel agent whether your specific balcony view is obstructed.

Managing Noise and Location

Our cabin was located right near the aft elevator bank on Deck 11, which meant we heard corridor noise often and could hear the elevator ding. It was somewhat annoying at times and I had to use a portable white noise machine to alleviate the sounds. I also heard noise from above, including things scratching the floors and vibration. To avoid these issues, it's always a good idea to check your ship deck plan to ensure you aren't directly below a high-traffic area like the pool deck or a galley.

How the Luna Compares to the Competition

As a cruise writer who has sailed across lines like Disney, Royal Caribbean and Viking Ocean, I found the Luna’s aft location highly accessible to both elevators and stairs, supported by a kind and efficient cabin attendant. However, it’s worth comparing this experience to a recent sailing on the Celebrity Xcel.

While the Luna offers a traditional walk-out balcony, the Xcel features a 201-square-foot "infinite veranda" that functions more like a massive power-operated window. While the bathroom layouts are comparable across both new ships, I found the Xcel’s cabin environment to be slightly quieter and easier to keep cool at night. Ultimately, while both the Luna and Xcel staterooms are perfectly sized for two guests or families with young children, those prioritizing true privacy and an abundance of space might still want to consider a suite or adjoining cabins for longer seven-night itineraries.

While a 2026 seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing in a Family Balcony on the Norwegian Luna can start around $1,050-$1,200 per person, it often includes NCL’s "Free at Sea" promotion covering an open bar, specialty dining, and Wi-Fi. In comparison, a similar itinerary in an Infinite Verandah on the Celebrity Xcel generally starts at a higher price point of $1,450-$1,750 per person, though their "All Included" rates bundle in a classic drink package and basic internet.

However, it's important to note that pricing is not fixed. Cruise rates change constantly based on the time of year, how many cabins are left and current sales. Because both the Norwegian Luna and Celebrity Xcel are brand-new ships, they will likely stay at a premium price. To get the best deal, it's always smart to compare current online rates or ask a travel advisor to check for hidden discounts before you book.

Is It Right for Your Family?

This family balcony cabin sleeps up to four people and is a strong recommendation for families traveling together, especially those with teens, as it is close to the teen activity areas of the ship. However, while it worked well for my husband and me for three nights, the space could be tight for a full seven-night sailing with four guests. If your budget permits, a family suite or extra staterooms could be a better option for those seeking true privacy and an abundance of space.

Ultimately, the Family Balcony on the Norwegian Luna is a stylish and modern choice for the active family. By limiting extra clothing and being mindful of your location on the ship, it serves as a fantastic home base for exploring the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Euphoria Season 2 RecapWhat happened to Rue and Jules?

Over the course of Season 2, Rue (Zendaya) struggles with sobriety while managing her relationship with Jules (Hunter Schafer). She's inspired to get clean, but staying that way is hard. She relapses at a party when she meets Elliot (Dominic Fike), who later seems to have a fling with Jules himself. This leads Rue to buy drugs from Laurie (Martha Kelly), but when it's found by her mom (Nika King), it's all dumped down the toilet.

It turns out Elliot told Jules that Rue had relapsed, so Jules told Leslie about the cache of pills. Rue then has to figure out how to maneuver herself out of being $10,000 in debt to a drug dealer. By season's end, things seem somewhat unresolved with Laurie, but Rue has stayed sober. She decides not to try to work things out with Jules, instead focusing on her sobriety outside a romantic relationship.

What about Maddy and Cassie?

Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) begin the season broken up, though still very much emotionally tied to one another. At the same time, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate are secretly seeing each other, hiding this from Maddy. Over many months, Cassie's behavior grows more erratic as she becomes increasingly isolated and obsessed with Nate, who himself wavers between the two girls. During an intervention for Rue, she reveals that Cassie and Nate have been seeing each other. Maddy feels betrayed, and Cassie spirals even further. After their dirty laundry is aired during the play, Nate dumps Cassie for good. By the end of the season, Maddy considers leaving town while Cassie feels more alone than ever.

Lexi's play airs out everyone's dirty laundry

Lexi (Maude Apatow) spent most of the season observing everyone else while kindling a relationship with Fezco (Angus Cloud). She channels her observations into a play called Our Life. In it, she exposes Rue's family trauma, Maddy and Cassie's friendship, Nate's toxic masculinity and her own personal feelings of invisibility. While the audience seems to love it, those who are its subjects are less flattered. Nate walks out, and Cassie interrupts the play itself.

Ashtray is snuffed out

As Fez had become romantically interested in Lexi, he promised he would attend her show. He also secretly shelters Faye (Chloe Cherry), who is being investigated by the police and his associate Custer (Tyler Chase) is an informant. In the season finale, Ashtray (Javon Walton) kills Custer, leading to a police raid on their apartment. In a shootout, Ashtray is killed and Fez is injured, then arrested. He misses Lexi's play.

Nate's dark past — and troubled future

Throughout the season, Nate struggles with his own identity. He confronts his father, Cal (Eric Dane), about his hidden past. In a flashback, we see Cal was in love with his best friend Derek (Henry Eikenberry). But once Marsha (Paula Marshall) got pregnant with Nate, Cal chose not to pursue his feelings for Derek. Having found a file of recordings of his father with underage individuals, Nate turns his father in to the police.

‘The Voice’ Semifinals and Finale Schedule: How to Watch Live

The Knockouts are over on Season 29 of The Voice and now there are only two more nights of competition ahead for the Top 9 contestants. Monday, April 13 is the two-hour semifinals, with the two-hour finale to air the following day on Tuesday, April 14.

The semifinals will see the number of contestants cut to only four for the finale. Both Adam Levine and John Legend will each have one artist representing them in the finale, but Kelly Clarkson will have two as the result of winning the All-Star Showdown.

The vote for the first time is not being done by America as there are no live shows this season. Rather, an audience comprised of Superfans and former Voice contestants will vote and determine the winner.

Best and Worst Places To Retire in Florida, According To Real Estate Pros

Florida's senior-friendly tax laws and mild winters make it a dream destination for many retirees. Thanks to the Sunshine State's vast landscape, those looking to spend their golden years in Florida can pretty much find anything they are looking for, including urban condos and rural cabins. However, when it comes to exactly where you want to call home, real estate pros say that some locations are definitely better than others.

From neighborhoods where seniors are known to brawl over golf cart parking, to places where you can kick back and enjoy some peace and quiet, the local pros I spoke with said that these are the best and worst Florida towns you can retire to.

Worst: The Villages

Central Florida is home to The Villages, a top-of-the-line retirement community that was built with seniors in mind. The neighborhoods are walkable, full of activities to keep seniors busy during the day, and rich in the natural beauty that many people come to Florida to experience.

However, Jeff Lichtenstein, CEO and Broker with Echo Fine Properties in Palm Beach Gardens, says it's not for everyone. "If you like to fight and argue with people on golf carts, then the Villages is a good place to go," he says, noting that the region is hot, far away from the beach, and doesn't offer much in the way of culture.

"Very famous for political infighting along with having the highest STD rates in the U.S.," he continues, adding that it's close to nearby Silver Spring, which also has a reputation for having a population of wild monkeys.

Best: Palm Beach County

As an alternative to The Villages, Lichtenstein suggests Palm Beach County, citing the region's access to cruise ports, culture, art, food, concert venues, and access to "beautiful blue" beaches. "The temperature is typically 80 degrees in the water," he continues, adding that you can expect to experience warmer winters here as well.

Worst: Miami

Retirees looking to move to the middle of the action may get more than they bargain for in Miami, according to Suzanne Vasbinder, Owner and Broker with Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty-Vasbinder International, LLC. She says many seniors may find themselves financially strapped here, thanks to the high cost of the condo and homeowners' association dues.

Best: Babcock Ranch

Looking for an inland home that doesn't often see the worst of Florida's hurricane season? Vasbinder suggests Babcock Ranch. "There are several Golf Courses, and all of the utilities are underground," she says of the newer planned community development.

"It's America's first solar town. It's located inland, which is ideal for retirees who are looking to live outside a flood zone," she continues, noting that it was rated as one of the best cities to live in 2024 by Money magazine.

"Babcock Ranch has a town center with lots of activities such as farmer markets, food trucks, festivals, music, and more," she says. Not only that, seniors looking for quick, easy access to healthcare will feel right at home, since there is a Lee Health satellite office and Tampa General Hospital's urgent care center nearby. "From Babcock Ranch, you have easy access to RSW airport as well as Punta Gorda airport. It's also centrally located with easy access to Orlando, Tampa, Naples, and the Florida Beaches."

Worst: Punta Gorda

Speaking of healthcare, those looking for quick, easy access to their healthcare providers may want to skip Punta Gorda, according to Scott Swonger, a HomeSmart real estate agent from Sarasota and Venice, Florida. "The area has taken a hard decline economically, and health care is not as abundant, and we lost a couple of our bigger hospitals in hurricanes that have never been rebuilt," he says.

Best: Venice

This Sarasota County town has earned Swonger's seal of approval due to it's location between Sarasota and Fort Meyers, which makes it within easy reach of international airports for those retirees who want to prioritize travel.

"The local community theater, Venice Theater, is among the best in the U.S.," he continues, adding that Venice is also the shark tooth capital of the world. "The tides bring in fossils and shark teeth, and it’s a lot of fun to find them on the beach."

Oh, and when it comes to healthcare, Venice has plenty of options as well. "Venice also has a very good health care system. "It has a mix of newer and historical communities," according to Swonger, who says it's home to the sixth-largest master planned community in the U.S., called Wellen Park, which also has a popular 55+ area.

Of course, for every town that was named the worst in the state for retirees, I could've probably found someone who would tell you why they are so happy to have moved there. That's why it's so important to do your research and decide what matters most to you in retirement, and then try to find a town or city that can meet those requirements.

Some love stories never really go out of style. And according to readers, one classic still defines the genre.

On Goodreads’ popular “Best Love Stories” list, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen has claimed the No. 1 spot, beating out countless modern and classic romances in a ranking powered by reader votes on the platform.

First published in 1813, the novel has remained a staple of English literature for more than two centuries. It follows Elizabeth Bennet, a sharp and independent young woman navigating family expectations, social pressures and, of course, her complicated relationship with the wealthy and aloof Mr. Darcy.

What begins with misunderstandings and bruised pride slowly transforms into one of literature’s most iconic romances, and one that has inspired plenty of love stories in books over the years.

Pride and Prejudice has earned an average rating of around 4.3 stars across millions of reader reviews on Goodreads, making it one of the platform’s most widely read and highly rated books. It has also sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, cementing its place as one of the most popular novels ever written.

Over the years, the story has also inspired countless adaptations across film, television and literature, helping introduce Elizabeth and Darcy’s love story to new generations again and again. A few notable examples include the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and the Bridget Jones’s Diary novel and movie adaptation. A new adaptation of the book is also on its way to Netflix.

Unfortunately, Austen never knew the enormous impact of her work. Her novels were published anonymously during her lifetime and only gained widespread recognition after her death. Along with Pride and Prejudice, she also wrote Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Lady Susan.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Star Is Engaged to a Rugby Player Who Proposed With a Heart of Rose Petals

Days of Our Lives actress AnnaLynne McCord has dated several high-profile men. She was once in a relationship with Twilight actor Kellan Lutz, and also dated Dominic Purcell from Prison Break. But now, she is officially off the market. She recently revealed that she is engaged to Danny Cipriani, a professional rugby player who proposed over Christmas in 2025.

According to McCord, they first met on the dating app Raya about a decade ago. They were "on and off" for a few years and ultimately split in 2020. They later reconnected in 2024 as friends but became "more than friends" about "48 hours" later.

McCord opened up about the proposal in an April 11 interview with People. “I cried for 10 minutes straight,” she revealed. “At some point, I realized I had to answer. I said, ‘Yes, but I can’t even speak,’ and he replied, ‘That’s okay, it’s actually a good sign that you are quiet for once.’ Then we’re all laughing.”

McCord admitted that she bought Cipriani a promise ring over Thanksgiving in Arizona. She considered proposing to him at one point, but changed her mind after speaking with her siblings, Rachel and Angel. “I told my sisters,” McCord explained. “Both really questioned this choice, and they strongly discouraged it. I decided to tell him that was my plan, but then the look on his face convinced me not to, and he fessed up and told me he had plans to propose to me on our upcoming trip to Cambodia.”

On Christmas Day, Cipriani got down on one knee at her Los Angeles home with her friends and family watching over Zoom. The ring was a 15-carat, emerald-cut diamond with seven round accent diamonds set in the band.

“I come downstairs and there are rose petals everywhere and a rose petal heart," she explained. "Danny, down on one knee with a ring, waiting for me to step into the heart.” She went on to say, "I called this 10 years ago. I knew we were soulmates, I knew we were meant to be together. I was so sure, and I was not wrong."

'90s Rocker Warns Jon Bon Jovi: "You've Got Some Serious Problems"

Jon Bon Jovi’s health condition sparked worries not only among fans but also from a close friend and fellow musician.

In an interview with Hot Metal, Trixter’s Steve Brown shared an unforgettable encounter he had with the Bon Jovi frontman in 2022 during Gwyneth Paltrow’s 50th birthday.

At the time, it was during the music icon’s recovery period after undergoing vocal cord surgery to address vocal cord atrophy, or in layman’s terms, an aging voice.

"The last time we hung out was in 2022, right after he had that really rough tour and he had his first bout of vocal surgery," he told the outlet as cited by Blabbermouth.

“I grabbed him and I pulled him away from Jerry Seinfeld and Steven Spielberg … that's a whole other interview in itself,” Brown said further as he went into detail about the encounter, adding, “I pulled him away and I said, 'I love you, bro, and I want you to know I heard the tour and you've got some serious problems.' I said, 'I had surgery around 10 years ago, I've been through the wringer. I've become … I'm not a doctor, but I know every trick.' He looked at me and he said, 'I really appreciate that, I'll reach out to you if I need ya.'"

However, months after their last face-to-face conversation, the Trixter lead guitarist has not received any response from the Grammy winner despite reaching out through his team.

Brown mentioned how he made a real effort to reach out, not just to offer support but also to extend help.

“And finally I got his cell (phone) and his e-mail and I sent him an e-mail and I called him and texted him and I said, 'Hey, man, I'm here.' I told him I jammed with [BON JOVI keyboardist] Dave Bryan in December, right before I launched ALWAYS JOVI. We played three songs together down in Nashville. I told Dave the same thing, man. Because Dave … we all want Jon to succeed, but you cannot go out there and be bad. There's no hiding it anymore and we saw that last thing that came out, that Tony Robbins special [which was recorded in September 2025 and featured a BON JOVI performance], and I'm not going to slag on anybody but [he 's] got a long way to go,” noting the significant improvement needed before the band’s highly anticipated concert.

Brown was referring to the Bon Jovi: Forever Tour 2026, which will officially kick off on.

July 7 with a multi-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

After this, the band is set for a European tour covering major cities in the UK and Ireland.

Since this will be Jon Bon Jovi’s first full-scale concert following his 2022 hiatus, Trixter raised concerns that the frontman might not be performance-ready and could risk disappointing fans due to unforeseen challenges during the tour.

These 5 Fruits Can Help Lower Your Colorectal Cancer Risk, According to Gastroenterologists

Overall, cancer death rates in the U.S. are declining, which is amazing news. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer mortality in U.S. adults younger than 50 has decreased 44% since 1990. Rates of breast cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer and leukemia have all gone down.

Unfortunately, the rate of colorectal cancer is on the rise, particularly among younger adults. According to the Cancer Research Institute, one in five people diagnosed with colorectal cancer is under 55 years old. “Colorectal cancer death in people less than age 50 is not only rising, but is now the number one cause of cancer death in this age group,” says Dr. Leybelis Padilla, MD, a gastroenterologist and the founder of Unlocking GI.

Why is this happening? Researchers don’t know exactly, but it’s likely due to more than one reason. Dr. Neil Parikh, MD, a gastroenterologist at Connecticut GI, says that it likely comes down to people living a more sedentary lifestyle, eating more ultra-processed foods and genetics.

This also means that diet and lifestyle play a role in lowering your risk of colorectal cancer. For example, a study published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology found that eating certain types of fruit regularly was associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer. Which fruits should you up your intake of, according to the study? Here’s what you need to know.

General Tips for Lowering Your Risk of Colorectal Cancer

While eating more fruit can play a role in lowering your risk of colorectal cancer, it’s certainly not the only action you should take. Dr. James Cox, MD, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor at Texas Christian University Burnett School of Medicine, says that exercising regularly, not using tobacco, minimizing alcohol consumption and having a diet low in ultra-processed foods are all science-backed ways to lower your risk.

What should you eat instead? All three gastroenterologists we talked to advocate for eating a whole food, fiber-rich diet. That means lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, plant-based proteins, fish and lean animal proteins.

Dr. Cox says that it’s also important to follow the colorectal cancer screening guidelines. This is especially important since symptoms for colorectal cancer don’t typically show up until the cancer is already at an advanced stage. It’s advised that everyone 45 and older be screened for colon and colorectal cancer. If one of your family members had colon or colorectal cancer, you should be screened earlier, which you should talk to your doctor about.

5 Fruits for Lowering Your Risk of Colorectal Cancer

Remember, eating fruit regularly is just one part of lowering your risk for colorectal cancer. With that in mind, let’s get into what researchers found about which fruits made the biggest impact when it came to mitigating risk.

Researchers analyzed 22 different scientific studies, collectively involving more than 1 million people. They highlighted four fruits that were associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer. Each one is listed below, plus one more fruit that the gastroenterologists we talked to say can also help lower the risk.

1. Watermelon

According to the analysis, eating watermelon regularly was associated with a 26% lower risk of colorectal cancer—that’s pretty major! “We often credit tomatoes for being healthy because of their lycopene, a powerful red antioxidant that gives them the color they are known for. This same lycopene is also found in watermelon and it may actually be more available to the body to absorb than tomatoes, making watermelon an underrated powerhouse,” Dr. Padilla explains.

In addition to being high in lycopene, Dr. Parikh says that watermelon is high in antioxidants, including vitamin C. Antioxidants, he explains, help combat oxidative stress—a key contributor to cancer. “Watermelon also has a high water content, and hydration has always been beneficial to improve bowel flow and overall gut health,” he adds.

2. Apples

Researchers found that regularly eating apples was associated with a 25% lower risk of colorectal cancer. Dr. Cox says this is likely due to apples’ fiber and flavonoids (plant-based compounds that act as antioxidants and help reduce inflammation).

Dr. Parikh also says that apples’ fiber likely plays a role, explaining that apples contain soluble fiber, which fuels healthy gut bacteria.

3. Kiwi

Eating kiwi regularly was associated with a 13% lower risk of colorectal cancer. “Kiwi is rich in vitamin C, fiber and unique digestive enzymes like actinidin. This allows it to facilitate a diverse and healthy gut microbiome,” Dr. Parikh says.

Kiwi also helps with constipation. One scientific study found that eating two kiwis a day improved constipation in people with irritable bowel syndrome-constipation. Why does this matter? Dr. Cox says that there is a theory that better gut transit time (how quickly food is digested and excreted), the less time that bodily tissue is in contact with stool, which could lower the risk of colon and colorectal cancer. Scientific research backs this up, showing a connection between prolonged gut transit time (constipation) and an increased risk of colorectal cancer.

4. Citrus fruits

Like kiwi, citrus fruits are also high in vitamin C, so it’s not too surprising that these types of fruits were associated with a 9% lower risk of colorectal cancer. “Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits are high in vitamin C and flavonoids. Flavonoids also have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which allow for enhanced integrity of the gut lining,” Dr. Parikh says.

5. Berries

While not highlighted in the analysis, Dr. Parikh also recommends eating berries regularly if you want to lower your risk of colorectal cancer. Though they’re small, he says berries are loaded with fiber and polyphenols, which have both been associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer.

While all of these fruits may be associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer, Dr. Cox emphasizes that all fruits and vegetables are beneficial, so his advice is to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables that you like.

Dr. Padilla says this too. “It's important not to get too stuck in the weeds of figuring out which foods have which antioxidants or individual superpowers because what we know is that when it comes to overall health and most especially microbiome health, dietary diversity matters. The real power comes not from one isolated nutrient, but from the way the many compounds, fibers and other plant components in whole foods work together,” she says.

But if you’re not in the habit of eating any fruit at all, any of the five aforementioned fruits are great options to start with. You’ll be lowering your risk of cancer one bite at a time.

How I Pack For a 7-Day Disney World Trip With A Single Carry-On

Packing with just a carry-on is one of my specialties. After touring with a Broadway show for a year with just a single suitcase, and having to live in the tiniest cruise ship cabins as a cruise ship performer, I know a thing or two about keeping my belongings to a minimum. I’ve adapted the same mindset when I go on vacation or on a work trip, and I will simply never go back to my over-packing ways again.

If I’m ever going on a trip that is less than 14 days, I will most definitely only be bringing a carry-on. I love the ease of maneuvering a small suitcase, the extra time I get by not having to go to baggage drop or pick-up, and the lack of stress I feel about my luggage getting lost in transit. Plus, it can save you money on your airplane ticket, too! In my opinion, it’s a win all around.

Today, we’re going to pack for a 7 day vacation at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The great thing about a Disney vacation is that most people plan meticulously ahead–from what days they are visiting certain parks to dining reservations and everything in between. This, in turn, makes packing a ton easier! You’ll roughly know exactly what you’re doing each day, so you can pack accordingly. Now, grab your Mickey Mouse ears and let’s get into it!

When you’re traveling with a carry-on, your airplane outfit is very important. For this Disney trip, I decided to go with a comfortable pair of red striped pants paired with a buttoned up dark blue vest. They are appropriate for the Disney vibe, will be comfortable on the plane, and both pieces can be worn at other times during the trip. I also will be wearing a pair of white sneakers, which will also be the shoes I wear in the parks each day.

Park Outfits

The most important outfits that you will pack for your Disney trip will be your park outfits. For this specific trip, I am only going to Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom. I decided to wear exercise dresses each day–which are comfortable, sweat wicking dresses that have shorts built into them. Then, to add more of a flare, I added in themed Disney shirts to go overtop the dresses. Each day, I will tie the t-shirts to be tighter around the waist (‘80s style) with a hair-tie, and then the outfit will look cohesive and fun.

Pool Day Outfits

For most people, the days that you’re not at one of the Disney World parks, you’re spending it at the pool at your Disney resort. I’ll be staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I expect to do a lot of poolside relaxing. I packed just two bathing suits, since it’s no big deal to rewear one of them. To go over top of my bathing suits for meals or exploring the resort, I brought two sundresses and a pair of shorts. Since my bathing suits are one-pieces, they can act like a shirt when the shorts are on.

Dining Reservation Outfits

One of the best parts of staying on Disney property is taking advantage of all of the dining options that are around the entire Walt Disney World resort. My family has scheduled a few specific reservations, so I know exactly what to expect each day. One of the evenings, we are eating a more upscale meal at a restaurant called Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. For that dinner, I packed a longer dress that I thought would be perfect for that evening.

Another night, we are planning on exploring Disney Springs and have reservations at a restaurant over there. I will wear my black sundress (the same one from my pool day looks) out that night, and will simply dress it up with some jewelry to make it more of an evening look. Lastly, we booked brunch at Ohana, which is in the Polynesian Resort, and I will also wear my pool day sundress there. That way, I can head right to the pool when we get back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the day! I also packed a layer piece that can go over any of my dresses, adding a bit of warmth while also making my outfits look slightly different.

Shoes

I remember when I was growing up, it was very “uncool” to wear sneakers to Disney World. Luckily, nobody is of that mindset anymore. Now, you’ll see that most Disney guests wear supportive sneakers around the parks. I am planning on wearing my white pair of sneakers, which are perfect for walking thousands of steps in the parks, plus they go with every outfit. In addition, I’ll bring my pair of Croc sandals, which are ideal for the pool days and casual wandering around. Lastly, I’m packing a pair of summery ballet flats, which I’ll reserve for wearing in the evenings when we go out to dinner.

What Else Do You Need?

First and foremost, don’t forget socks and underwear! I always jam them into my smallest compression packing cube and call it a day. You also don’t want to forget pajamas, and if you’re like me, you’ll want Disney themed pajamas. For toiletries, you don’t need to bring your entire shower with you. Disney (if you’re staying on property) provides shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, and lotion in your resort room. So, I only bring a few necessities for toiletries to get me through the week.

The last items that I put in my carry-on itself is usually my bag of makeup, a hair straightener, and a hair brush. With the way I packed for this trip, I actually have a good amount of room left in my suitcase to buy some souvenirs!

My personal item is just as important as my carry-on. Here, I put accessories like Mickey ears, a handheld fan, and my Disney fanny pack (which holds my passport and wallet). I also include any chargers or electronics that I’ll need, medications, snacks, and small hair accessories.

The "Pro" Disney Packing Checklist

Prioritize Power over Everything: In 2026, your phone is your lifeline for everything from Lightning Lane entries to mobile food orders. Pack a high-capacity portable charger (at least 10,000mAh) or a FuelRod. The beauty of the FuelRod is that you can swap it for a fresh one at kiosks throughout the parks and resorts for free, which is a total game-changer when you’re on the move. (Buy them on Amazon before the trip. A single one at a Disney kiosk is about $38, but you can usually get a two-pack on Amazon for around $35.)

Be a Cooling Enthusiast: Florida humidity is no joke. A rechargeable neck fan or a handheld misting fan should be the first thing in your personal item. If you really want to level up, pack a few cooling towels—you just wet them down and drape them over your neck for an instant "ahhh" moment during those 2:00 PM parade waits.

Master the "Dry Bag" Hack: Beyond a poncho, pack a few large Ziploc bags. They take up zero space but are essential for protecting your phone and wallet on Splash Mountain or during those sudden Florida downpours. They also double as a great way to stash a wet swimsuit on your last day.

Don't Forget the "Post-Park" Recovery: Your feet will thank you for packing a small bag of Epsom salts. After a long day of "crushing the parks," a 10-minute foot soak in your resort tub is the ultimate luxury that costs next to nothing.

Hydrate for Free: Don't waste money on $5 bottled water. Bring a collapsible or insulated refillable water bottle. You can get free cups of ice water at any quick-service dining location, making it easy to stay hydrated without the "souvenir" price tag.

Jeans are one of the most tried and true styles out there for a reason. Whether you prefer a wide-leg or flares, there are so many stylish pairs out there just waiting to be worn. No matter the season, there's also always a way to wear them that's chic, polished, sophisticated or even casual-yet-cute. Celebrity stylists love styling denim because there are endless wardrobe essentials to pair them with—from ballet flats to ankle boots. And more recently, they say there's one niche style in particular that's ready to take the season by storm: low-rise baggy jeans.

While this style lost a bit of favor after the early 2000s, celebrity stylist Mickey Freemanswears that they're back and better than ever. He loves styling them for his celebrity clients—which includes Keke Palmer, Peyton List, Dasha Polanco, Kyla Pratt and Paige Buckner—and he's giving the inside scoop on how you can rock this style here in 2026, too.

Think oversized tees, varsity jackets, sheer tops and '90s accessories. Even if you never wore this look back in the day, now is the time to try since Freeman says they're about to be everywhere for spring. How To Style Low-Rise Baggy Jeans

Stylists like Freeman say low-rise baggy jeans are one of spring's most versatile trends. For starters, there are so many ways to dress them up or down, and you can build out a wardrobe that contains a variety of pieces that they pair well with.

"It's essential to invest in unique pieces like elaborately embellished or embroidered tops and accessories such as silk scarves, corsets, iconic jackets, clutches, statement jewelry, gloves and belts," the stylist says. "[You'll also want to invest in] stylish footwear like boots, clogs or mules, as the trend of mixing high and low-value items continues to rise."

One of his favorite approaches is balancing masculine and feminine elements in the same outfit.

"[This is where] garments above the jeans' waistline convey feminine energy, while those below offer a masculine touch," Freeman adds. "To achieve this, first identify the pants' waistline, which serves as a guide to separate the two styles in your outfit."

A successfully balanced look can be created by pairing low-rise baggy jeans with classic styles like Timberland boots (Freeman says he prefers the classic Nubuck ones), and a white fitted tank top made from delicate fabrics like silk, satin or lace.

"Bralettes are also a great option, especially when crafted from delicate materials, and for added flair, consider more rigid fabrics—denim on denim works wonderfully," he continues.

For a trendier, summer-ready look, Freeman also says you can style low-rise baggy jeans with a one-piece swimsuit or a bathing suit top. He says you can even add a pair of Crocs if you're into the look.

"Pair a matching denim bralette with a cropped denim jacket for cooler evenings, and complete the look with denim chunky boots or patchwork denim booties for a striking monochromatic effect," he suggests. "This balance not only channels your inner Aaliyah, but also adds an edgy flair by transforming a fitted white T-shirt into a DIY cropped top, which can be paired with Dr. Martens combat boots for a bold statement."

How To Avoid Looking Frumpy in Baggy Jeans

While low-rise baggy jeans are one of the season's biggest style hits, it's easy to get swallowed up by fabric if you don't have the right tips. To avoid looking frumpy when wearing baggy jeans, Freeman says to consider incorporating a corset into your outfit. He even says this is set to be a significant trend in 2026.

"Corsets offer timelessness, sexiness and versatility, making them suitable for various occasions and body types," he shares. "Whether worn under or over a top, or even by itself, a corset can enhance your silhouette and provide an immediate flattering shape. This stylish addition can be paired with sneakers for a casual look or chic boots for a night out, allowing for personal expression and thoughtful wardrobe choices."

He also adds that choosing the right corset or shapewear can breathe life into your experience with baggy jeans. The same goes for your intimates.

"Many women and men make the mistake of not paying attention to their choice of undergarments every day," he warns. "The type of intimates one chooses can completely alter how an undergarment fits and, most importantly, affect overall comfort. By making these thoughtful choices, you can elevate your style and avoid the frumpy look often associated with baggy jeans."

"I love this look for its edgy and expressive nature," he shares. "Perfect for making a bold statement."

To style this look effectively, he says to ensure your oversized tee has a unique graphic or message, and mix textures by adding a leather jacket.

"Don't forget to layer on the accessories for that quintessential emo flair," he adds.

When layering, choose complementary colors and patterns, and consider contrasting fabrics for added interest. A fitted top can help maintain balance in the silhouette."

Like Freeman mentioned above, adding a feminine flair to a traditionally masculine silhouette works really well here. He loves adding a sheer top or camisole to a low-rise baggy jeans look.

"Embrace an ultra-sheer top with low-rise baggy jeans for a sexy and chic statement," he explains. "I love this look for its boldness and confidence it conveys."

In terms of styling, he also says to choose slightly translucent tops, allowing a hint of skin while still being tasteful.

Written by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and released on June 27, 1973, the classic ballad became the band’s first major hit, peaking at No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 before hitting No. 6 three years later following its re-release. In 2018, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, surpassing one billion streams on Spotify.

According to the Grammys website, Tyler’s song is rooted in the classics, with the flamboyant vocalist sharing in his 2011 autobiography, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, "I grew up, under the piano, listening and living in between the notes of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, Debussy. That's where I got that 'Dream On' chordage."

Of course, that “chordage” had its early doubters — one of whom was Tyler’s band mate, guitarist Joe Perry, who didn’t consider “Dream On” rock and roll enough.

”Back in those days you made your mark playing live,” Perry told Classic Rock magazine, per the Grammys site, in 2002. “And to me rock 'n' roll's all about energy and putting on a show. Those were the things that attracted me to rock 'n' roll, but 'Dream On' was a ballad. I didn't really appreciate the musicality of it until later.”

Mikko Von Hertzen, singer and guitarist with Finnish proggers the Von Hertzen, curated the list for Louder. About “Dream On,” he wrote, “This song is nothing short of magical for me. So much longing and beauty. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to a certain point … I had a serious crush on a girl and tried to woo her with this song. But she was into one of my pals. I still connect this song with the emptiness and hurt I felt.”

His list also includes Free’s "Wishing Well," Pink Floyd’s "Time," Led Zeppelin’s "The Rain Song," and Queen’s "Liar" — proving that 1973 didn't just rock, it ruled.
