’60s Icon and 'Goddess of Pop' Celebrates First Best Actress Oscar Win 38 Years Ago Today
Cher conquered the music scene in the 1960s when she released her breakthrough hit "I Got You Babe," but decades later, she cemented her name in Hollywood after winning her first Best Actress award.
The California native landed an iconic role in the romantic comedyMoonstruck, where she played a 37-year-old Italian-American widow named Loretta Castorini.
With her misfortune, she came to believe that her life was “cursed” after her husband was killed by a bus.
Driven by that fear, she agreed to marry Johnny Cammareri, portrayed by Danny Aiello, a boring, safe man. The marriage was not out of Castorini’s love but for security.
Released in 1987, the movie became a massive box office hit, earning approximately $122.1 million worldwide on a $15 million production budget.
Moreover, with a total of over $80.6 million in earnings, Moonstruck became the fifth highest-grossing film of the year.
Following the public’s strong reception, the rom-com film also earned multiple awards at major ceremonies.
Out of the six nominations at the 60th Academy Awards, the movie received three major awards, including Cher’s first Best Actress win at the Oscars.

On April 11, 1988, she beat equally talented and notable stars like Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Holly Hunter (Broadcast News), Meryl Streep (Ironweed) and Sally Kirkland (Anna).
Presented by Paul Newman, Cher accepted the award wearing a stunning sheer black “naked dress” by designer Bob Mackie.
In her acceptance speech, the singer-actress spoke about how much the award meant to her and expressed gratitude to everyone who helped her receive the Best Actress recognition.

“When I was little, my mother said, ‘I want you to be something.’ And I guess this represents twenty-three or twenty-four years of my work, and I've never won anything before from my peers,” she said as cited by the Oscars. “I'm really, really happy. I'd like to thank everyone I worked with on the movie [sic]. They were really fabulous. It was really a great experience for me. My makeup man, who had a lot to work with; my hairdresser; my assistant; my children, who've been so wonderful. The lady who taught me how to speak in this Brooklyn accent.”
Lastly, she also mentioned all her fellow nominees and expressed how honored she was to be nominated alongside incredible actresses whom she admired.

10 Colorful Kitchens That Prove Neutral Isn’t the Only Safe Choice
Who says that you have to stick to neutral colors in the kitchen? While white kitchens reigned supreme for quite some time, many people have begun thinking outside the box. The examples below prove that cooking spaces can certainly be full of vibrant and joyful color, if that's more your vibe. Keep reading for inspirational kitchens that pro designers have chosen to coat in reds, blues, greens and more.
1. Bold RedIf you're really not one to shy away from color, why not incorporate a bold red into the kitchen, as interior designer Barrie Benson did here, using Century Paint Terra Rosa VI? The shade adds instant energy to this cooking space, while white walls and trim prevent the kitchen from becoming too dark or overpowering.
2. A Pop of PurpleMaybe you're looking to ease into color a bit and would prefer to jazz up your kitchen island with a fun shade while keeping your cabinetry white. In this space, Benson utilized both Farrow & Ball Pointing (No. 2003) as well as Farrow & Ball Brinjal (No. 222) in order to create a stunning kitchen that wows but doesn't overwhelm.
3. Strong BlueMindy O'Connor, the founder of Melinda Kelson O'Connor Architecture and Interiors, opted for Farrow & Ball Hague Blue (No. 30) in this open kitchen. "It's a gorgeous deep blue with green undertones," she says. "We chose it because it simultaneously acts as a timeless neutral backdrop (pairing easily with natural wood and marble) and yet is strong, warm and quietly dramatic."
4. Lowers OnlyEven if you skip upper cabinets in the kitchen, you can still incorporate bold color on your lowers. "With the tile reading as a much bolder blue, I counterbalanced it with a deeper, still punchy tone to keep the space lively while adding contrast and grounding the palette," says Lindsie Davis, the founder of Blueberry Jones Design, who brought Sherwin Williams Naval (SW 6244) into this kitchen.
5. Inspired by the WallsDavis opted for another rich shade, Benjamin Moore Oasis Blue (2049-20), in this cooking space, which, like the previous one, also features an elaborate wall pattern. "Because the wallcovering has such a strong graphic presence, I selected a deeper tone pulled from the print to add visual weight while keeping the focus above," the designer notes.
6. Playful PinkSusan Klimala of TKS Design Group wove a stunning pink, Benjamin Moore Coral Bronze (1298), into this kitchen, pairing it with a green herringbone backsplash. "Our client loves color and didn’t want to shy away from using color in a big, bold way when remodeling their kitchen," Klimala explains.
7. Dramatic and DarkNavy Waterworks casework adds a moody touch to this lounge kitchen bar that Emilie Munroe of Studio Munroe designed. "It was key that this kitchen expressed an identity separate from the main kitchen while encouraging festivity, connection and fun," she reflects.
8. Gorgeous GreenSometimes a little color is all you need to take a room from generic to grand. "We chose this color to give the room pizazz through a grounded earthen tone," says Sophia deDomenico, the founder of Et Sal Interiors, of the Sherwin Williams Dried Thyme (SW 6186) hue she selected. "Without the unexpected twist, this room would have just read safe and non- personal," she adds. "The moody green was the perfect blend of happy, earthy, punchy that the kitchen was begging for, but presented in a way that allowed the owner to feel comfortable saying 'yes'."
9. Cheerful PurpleJill Tran and Carmen Thomas, the founders of Tran + Thomas Design Studio, were thrilled when their client was on board with pairing a cheerful butterflywallpaper with Sherwin Williams Fabulous Grape (SW 6293) cabinetry. “When you have a client who isn't afraid of color, you drop what you're doing and run with it," Tran notes.
10. Chic ChartreuseWhen designing her own home, Thomas wanted to incorporate a favorite hue, Sherwin Williams Tansy Green (SW 6424), into the kitchen. "It's a deep, rich chartreuse I have loved for years," she says. "With Tansy being such a fresh and yummy green, it was perfect for the pantry prep area."
Barbie Ferreira Discusses ‘Euphoria’ Group Chat After Exit
Euphoria Season 3 drops tomorrow on HBO, and while the cast has been making headlines all week with a buzzy red carpet premiere and plenty of behind-the-scenes chatter, one original cast member is watching it all unfold from the outside.
Barbie Ferreira, who played fan-favorite Kat Hernandez for the show's first two seasons, recently told Parade that the cast’s old text thread didn’t exactly survive the four-year gap between seasons. “We used to have a group chat — we were all so bad with our phones,” she said. And if there’s been any texting ahead of the premiere, she’s not in the loop: “I have no idea. No clue.”
That doesn't mean the relationships have faded, though. On The Viall Files last year, Ferreira shared that she still keeps in touch with several former castmates, and that Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, and Sydney Sweeney all came to support her during her Broadway run in Cult of Love. "I saw Hunter the other day, I saw Maude the other day, Sydney came to see my play," she said at the time. "Whenever we're in town, we always try to see each other."
As for the show itself, Ferreira has been open about her exit — and in a recent Collider Ladies Night interview, she expanded on that decision. "With Season 2, it just felt like the character wasn't Kat anymore," she said. "I felt like I wanted to do more things. I didn't care if it was like the biggest TV show on HBO." She also told Just Jared earlier this month that she hadn't seen any footage from Season 3 until the trailers came out, adding, "They look amazing. I'm excited to see what the girls are gonna do."
And she's been plenty busy on her own. Her horror filmFaces of Death alongside Charli XCX and Dacre Montgomery hit theaters yesterday, with critics praising her lead performance. Her indie rom-com Mile End Kicks, which she also executive produced, follows on April 17. She also recently launched a limited-edition capsule collection with lifestyle brand For Your Soul, telling Parade her favorite piece is the red tracksuit. "It looks really good on me," she said.
View this post on InstagramEuphoria Season 3 premieres Sunday, April 12 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and will stream on Max. Zendayarecently suggested on The Drew Barrymore Show that Season 3 is likely the show's last, telling Barrymore, "I think so, yeah."
Emotional Farewell Turns Messy in New Trailer for Reality TV Phenomenon
MTV dropped the trailer for the final season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, teasing an emotional goodbye nearly 15 years after the franchise first became a pop culture phenomenon.
The preview leans heavily into nostalgia, flashing back to the cast’s early days while showing how much their lives have changed. But it’s not all sentimentality, because there’s still plenty of drama packed into the farewell run.
The Jersey Shore: Family Vacation trailer highlights several major milestones. Samantha "Sammi Sweetheart" Giancola's wedding (which took place on ex-boyfriend Ronnie Ortiz-Magro's birthday) and pregnancy announcement. This, of course, led the cast to inquire with Pauly DelVecchio's longtime girlfriend, Nikki Hall, about children.
Her response? "I don't know, have you asked Pauly?"
Cameras also captured Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino opening his very own Archangels Rehabilitation Center.
What has us most curious about the last season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation includes a tearful Jenni "JWoww" Farley in a confessional and what has Ortiz-Magro, 40, saying, "It's kind of f--ked up because I don't want to get out of bed," and who Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is telling to "leave him."
Longtime friendships appear to be tested once again, with emotional confrontations, group blowups, and tearful moments suggesting the roommates’ final chapter won’t be without conflict.
At the same time, the final season is sure to underscore how far the cast has come. From raising families to celebrating sobriety milestones and expanding their careers, the season promises to balance growth with the wild dynamic that made the series a hit in the first place.
The upcoming installment will serve as the show’s last, wrapping with 18 episodes that bring the long-running reality franchise to a close. However, the Jersey Shore cast has teased the story "will continue," but there hasn't been clarity on what that means yet.
Watch the final season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation premieres Thursday, May 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

The 'Summer Pricing Cliff' is Coming—Here are the 15 Destinations to Book Before May 1 to Save Hundreds
If you’ve been waiting for the "perfect time" to book your summer getaway, consider this your final boarding call. According to new data from Dollar Flight Club, we are currently in a rare, two-week "Goldilocks" window where spring break demand has died down, but airlines haven't yet flipped the switch to peak summer pricing.
"There's a short stretch between mid-April and early May where fares to some of the most popular destinations in the world still sit below peak levels," says Jesse Neugarten, CEO of Dollar Flight Club. "Once that shift happens, the lowest fares disappear quickly and usually don’t come back until the end of summer."

The $400 Europe Reality CheckThe most shocking takeaway from the data is the current state of European fares. While we’ve come to expect $1,000+ tickets for July trips to Italy or Greece, booking before May 1 could keep your airfare in the $400 to $600 range.
For example, Rome is currently hovering between $415 and $572. Once the "summer cliff" hits, those same seats are projected to jump to a minimum of $750—a $400 swing for a family of four that could pay for a lot of gelato.

The "Mid-May" ShiftWhy May 1? It’s the unofficial start of the summer travel season for airline pricing algorithms. Once the calendar turns, the "advance purchase" requirements for June and July flights often shift, and the lower-tier fare buckets are removed from the system.
Pro Tip: If you’re sitting on a stash of points, use this week to check those transfer partners. When cash prices are in this "low" range, it’s often the best time to find "Saver" level award space before the summer rush turns every seat into a "Standard" (read: expensive) redemption.

The Underrated 1948 Hitchcock Film That Starred A Hollywood Icon Of The Golden Age
Alfred Hitchcock is responsible for dozens of iconic films, from Psycho to The Birds to Strangers on a Train. Over his six-decade career, he released over 50 films. Although many of them are known across the globe, some are criminally underrated, like his first in-color film.
Rope, a psychological crime thriller that released in 1948, told the story of two young men who murdered one of their classmates. At the start of the film, they’re hiding his body in the room where they’re about to hold a dinner party that the victim's girlfriend and father will be attending. The whole exercise is done because the pair wish to commit the “perfect murder” to prove their intellectual superiority. The story was based on a 1929 play of the same title by Patrick Hamilton.
The film stars Hollywood icon, James Stewart, who played George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life and John Ferguson in another Hitchcock film, Vertigo. In Rope, he plays the part of Rupert Cadell, the boys’ prep-school housemaster who starts to suspect something is off with the dinner party.
Rope received mixed reviews when it was originally released and is widely considered one of Hitchcock’s most experimental films. As one reviewer explained, “Rope was not a hit on release, and Hitchcock was apparently always unhappy with what he had attempted to do; additionally, star James Stewart believed himself to have been miscast as Dr Rupert Cadell, the film’s crumbling moral backbone.”
Related: This 1995 Box Office Disappointment From Disney Became a Cult Classic
However, the film has gained more popularity over the years. It currently has a 93% critic score and 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. As one reviewer said, “This earns my vote as the most underrated of all Hitchcock flicks.” Another called the film a “powerful whodunnit suspense thriller with really outstanding performance and really great storytelling about killing someone. Hitchcock is really a master of suspense.”
Rope is known for its long, unbroken takes that last up to ten minutes. It was also shot on a single set, aside from the opening establishing shot of the street, which made the scenes tricky to film. Stewart wasn’t a fan of the process, allegedly saying, “The really important thing being rehearsed here is the camera, not the actors!” He also remarked, “It was worth trying—nobody but Hitch would have tried it. But it really didn’t work.”
Of course, many audiences would disagree.
Sweetgreen Just Dropped New Menu Items—and One Has a Sweet, Savory Kick to It
Fast-casual menus are getting a refresh, and Sweetgreen just added a few new items worth paying attention to. The latest drop includes a brand-new Chicken Sesame Crunch salad and a limited-time KBBQ chicken lineup, each featuring bold flavors and layered textures.
This time around, it's all about contrast on the plate. One is bright and crunchy, packed with greens, crispy noodles and a citrus sesame vinaigrette, while the other goes deeper with sweet-savory Korean barbecue–style chicken, rice, kimchi and rich, sauce-forward flavor. Together, they bring two very different directions to the menu—without straying from Sweetgreen's fresh, build-a-bowl approach.

This New Sweetgreen Salad Is All About Crunch and CitrusCourtesy Sweetgreen
If you're someone who orders based on texture as much as flavor, the new Chicken Sesame Crunch is probably the one you'll want to go with. It has a mix of napa cabbage slaw, shredded kale, romaine, cabbage and carrots, layered with roasted chicken and finished with crispy noodles and a sesame crunch topping.
Everything gets tossed in a citrus-sesame vinaigrette, which adds a bright, slightly tangy flavor that cuts through the richness of the chicken. It ends up feeling fresh and crunchy rather than heavy, with enough contrast to keep it interesting from the first bite to the last.
There's also a practical angle here. With around 35 grams of protein, it's filling enough to work as a complete meal, not just a lighter lunch. And compared to some of Sweetgreen's warmer, grain-heavy bowls, this one feels more like something you'd reach for on a warmer day when you want something refreshing but still satisfying.

This Sweetgreen KBBQ Bowl Is Sweet, Savory and Packed with HeatOn the other end of the spectrum, the new KBBQ Chicken menu goes for deeper, richer flavors. This is where that sweet-and-savory balance really shows up.
The KBBQ Chicken Bowl pairs glazed chicken with white rice, romaine, spicy broccoli, napa cabbage slaw and cucumber kimchi, all tied together with an apple kimchi sauce. It's layered, a little saucy, and centered on that Korean barbecue-style flavor—slightly sweet, umami-forward, with a bit of heat.
If you want something even heartier, there's also a KBBQ Chicken Plate, which doubles down on the rice and skips the greens-heavy feel of a bowl. It's more of a comfort option, with the same bold flavors but in a more filling version.
One thing to note: this menu isn't sticking around forever. It's only available through May 18 at participating locations, and not every market has it, so availability may be limited depending on where you are.
My Take After Trying BothI've been a Sweetgreen convert ever since trying out their Garlic Parm Cauliflower menu last year, and every new drop has been consistently good. I knew I'd like both; the only question was which one would stand out more.
While the KBBQ bowl had soft, tender beef with a nice balance of sweetness and mild heat, I ended up liking the Chicken Sesame Crunch a bit more. The mix of textures and flavors really came together, leaving me wanting to recreate it at home.
Pro tip: Order a couple of dressings on the side so it doesn't get soggy—you can always add more as you go.

How Living In These States Could Shrink Your Social Security Check
Planning where you spend your golden years requires careful consideration, especially for retirees living on a fixed budget. And while warm weather and walkable towns is often high on people's lists when they are planning a move, making sure you're relocating to a state with favorable tax laws is probably your biggest consideration.
That's because living in some states can actually reduce your after-tax retirement earnings, making your fixed income feel that much smaller after Uncle Sam gets his cut. Keep reading to find out which states are still demanding their cut of your retirement, and exactly how much you stand to lose when you call these places home.
8 States Tax Social Security Benefits in 2026While many states are moving away from the idea of taxing their oldest residents, there are still eight that require you to pay a portion of your Social Security and retirement earnings back to the government. In 2026, Money magazine says the states still collecting income taxes on Social Security payments include:
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Minnesota
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Rhode Island
- Utah
- Vermont
Related: This Genius Simple Move Could Give You Bigger Social Security Checks—for Life
While the rest of the states in the country have largely moved away from taxing certain income, these eight states use varying income thresholds to determine just how much you'll have to pay. Of course, those numbers can change dramatically based on individual circumstances, just as much as zip codes, so it's important to look into what your tax liability could be using your personal earnings figures.
How Much Does Your Social Security Payment Shrink by StateNow, let's take a look at just how much of your Social Security you could be giving back each month. For example, Colorado's Department of Revenue says that taxpayers under age 65 on the last day of the tax year can deduct a certain amount from their taxable earnings, including up to $20,000 of their taxable annuity or pension income, whichever is lower. For those over 65, the figure jumps to $24,000.
Connecticut goes a different route, allowing people to deduct 100 percent of their Social Security benefits if their combined household income is less than $100,000 for joint filers and $75,000 for single filers. Those figures are similar for pension and annuity income; there are some caveats about how those limits are used at scale when your earnings exceed the maximum.
Minnesota retirees have a similar structure, but the income levels are slightly higher at $108,320 for married taxpayers and $84,490 for single filers. In Montana, the Department of Revenue allows you to deduct a portion of your Social Security from your taxable income, and those ages 65 and older can subtract up to $5,500.
In New Mexico, retirees are allowed to keep 100 percent of their Social Security earnings when they make less than $150,000 for married filers and $100,000 for singles (married couples filing separately are capped at $75,000).
Rhode Island retirees can exempt up to $20,000 of retirement income ($40,000 for couples) once they reach full retirement age, according to the state. And in Utah, those earning up to $90,000 will be exempt from paying tax on Social Security. In Vermont, though, those thresholds are much smaller, and in order to keep 100 percent of your Social Security benefits, you'll need to make less than $32,000 a year for couples or $25,000 a year for singles.
Social Security Benefits are on the RiseWhile nobody likes to hear that their retirement benefits are shrinking, it's worth noting that the 2026 Social Security benefits are going to increase thanks to the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) announced by the Social Security Administration (SSA). According to the website, W2 earners will see a 7.65 percent increase, while self-employed earners will see a 15.30 percent increase. Meanwhile, those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get just a 2.8 percent increase.
1976 Timeless Classic Hit No. 1 50 Years Ago Today
Fifty years ago this week, a lively country tune about heartbreak and healing through music climbed to the top of the charts.
“Drinkin’ My Baby (Off My Mind)” by Eddie Rabbitt became the No. 1 country song in April 1976, marking a turning point in the singer’s career and helping shape the future of country music.
The song, released earlier that year, reached the summit of the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. It was Rabbitt’s first No. 1 hit as a performer, and it launched a streak of success that would define his career for more than a decade.

“Drinkin’ My Baby (Off My Mind)” stood out right away because of its upbeat sound and easy-to-sing lyrics. While many country songs at the time were slow and sad, Rabbitt’s track brought energy to a classic theme, trying to forget a lost love.
The song’s lyrics painted a clear picture of a man sitting in a bar, asking the bartender for another drink and turning up the jukebox to drown out his thoughts.
Lines like, “Hey bartender, pop the top on another can / Give me ten dimes for this dollar in my hand,” helped listeners connect with the story. The catchy chorus and strong rhythm made it a favorite in bars and on the radio.
The track was co-written by Rabbitt and his longtime collaborator Even Stevens. Before this hit, Rabbitt was better known behind the scenes. He had already made a name for himself as a songwriter, including writing “Kentucky Rain,” which was recorded by Elvis Presley.
The success of the song helped launch Rabbitt into one of the most consistent hit streaks in country music history. Starting with this track, he would go on to achieve 34 straight Top 10 country hits between 1976 and 1990. Many of those songs were also written or co-written by Rabbitt himself.
What made Rabbitt unique was his ability to mix traditional country sounds with elements of pop and rock. While “Drinkin’ My Baby (Off My Mind)” leaned heavily on honky-tonk roots, it also hinted at the crossover style he would later become famous for.
In the years that followed, Rabbitt delivered major hits like “Drivin’ My Life Away” and “I Love a Rainy Night,” the latter reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. His music helped shape the country-pop sound that became popular during the late 1970s and 1980s.
Even with his success, Rabbitt stayed focused on writing relatable songs. His music often told simple stories about everyday life, working, loving and dealing with loss. That honesty helped his songs stay relevant long after they first hit the charts.
Though Eddie Rabbitt passed away in 1998, his influence remains strong. His breakthrough hit from 1976 is more than just a chart-topper, it’s a reminder of how one song can change a career and leave a lasting mark on music history.

What Happened to Bob Dylan on This Day in 1961 Changed Music History Forever
Sixty-five years ago today, a scrappy teenager from Minnesota walked into a Greenwich Village folk club and quietly set the course for one of music's most legendary and iconic careers.
On April 11, 1961, a 19-year-old Bob Dylan took the stage at Gerde's Folk City—at the time the most prestigious folk venue in New York—opening for blues icon, John Lee Hooker. He wasn’t the headliner. The crowd wasn't there for him. He was still a complete unknown. But something magical was beginning on that day in New York.
Bob Dylan's First Major New York Performance Changed EverythingDylan had only come on the scene in New York City a few months earlier, blending seamlessly into the bohemian crowds filling Greenwich Village. Plenty of young dreamers populated those streets in 1961—armed with guitars, poetry and restless ambition. What separated Dylan from the everyone else wasn't immediately obvious but it soon would be.

♬ original sound - azurerecordstore - azurerecordstoreWhat he possessed, though, proved absolutely invaluable to his craft: an unforgettable stage presence, an encyclopedic knowledge of American folk music, and an extraordinary ability to absorb influences and make them his own. Legendary producer, John Hammond, once observed that "the young man from the provinces began to make friends very quickly in New York, all the while continuing, as he has since he was ten, to assimilate musical ideas from everyone he met, every record he heard."
Dylan had traveled out east specifically to meet his music idol, Woody Guthrie, who was hospitalized in New Jersey. Once he arrived in New York, he quickly made connections with influential folk scene figures including Jack Elliott and Dave Van Ronk.
Landing a his first real performance slot at Gerde's—beyond the club's informal Monday open mic nights—was a genuine breakthrough. Except Dylan faced one huge obstacle: at only 19-years-old, he was too young to obtain the necessary union card and cabaret license to perform.
Related: Late British Rock Icon Once Dedicated a Song Specifically to Bob Dylan
Club owner, Mike Porco, saw enough potential in Dylan to take it upon himself to solve the issue himself. He officially became Dylan's legal guardian in order to satisfy the paperwork requirements—a gesture that Dylan never forgot, later calling Porco "the Sicilian father I never knew I had."
Dylan immortalized this magical period in his 1962 song, "Talkin' New York," singing about finally landing legitimate work after, "weeks and weeks of hanging around," joining the union and paying his dues.
Gerde’s was the beginning of the Dylan legend. Within a year, Dylan had a record deal. Within a few years, he had revolutionized pop music's possibilities. And decades later, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature for his lyrics.
For audiences just discovering Dylan's story through Timothée Chalamet's powerful portrayal in A Complete Unknown, this moment at Gerde's represents a unique glimpse into where it all began—when a teenager barely old enough to legally perform stepped into the spotlight and started changing music history.
That April night in 1961 marked Dylan’s first major step on an extraordinary and legendary career journey. Everything that followed—every album, every reinvention, every generation of artists Dylan would influence—traces back to a folk club in Greenwich Village and a kid from Minnesota who had barely even made it through the door.
Just before Re-Entry, Artemis II Crew Reached Out to Their Children—and Here’s What They Said
As predicted, the Artemis II splashed down off the coast of San Diego shortly after 8:00 p.m. ET (8:07 to be exact) on Friday night. NASA’s astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Candian Jeremy Hansen made it safely back to Earth, and as the world watched, we all let out a collective sigh of relief.
A few people may have sweated through the harrowing re-entry more than others. Of course, we’re talking about the astronauts’ families. After a 10-day mission that took them farther into space than any human has gone, the moon-orbiting crew sent their loved ones special messages ahead of their return home. And what did the astronauts have to say on this historic day?
How many of the Artemis II crew members are parents?Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman has two daughters, Ellie (age 20) and Katherine (age 17). Wiseman tragically lost his wife, and mother to his two children, in 2020. In a memorable moment from the recent mission, the Artemis crew dedicated one of the moon’s craters to Wiseman’s late wife, naming it Carroll.
View this post on InstagramApparently, Instagram works from space—because Wiseman posted a sweet pic of his daughters on a video call, writing, “Distance makes the heart grow fonder…it didn’t take 219,669 miles to remind me how much love I have for Ellie and Katy.”
Pilot Victor Glover has four children with his wife Dionna: Genesis, Maya, Joia, and Corinne. Daughter Maya recently stole the spotlight with a now-viral Instagram video. In a video posted by the Canadian Space Agency, Hansen said, “Since I’ve been assigned to this mission, I’ve just been really proud of their response to the demands on our family, supporting one another, bringing high energy to keep up with this hectic pace.”
What messages did the Artemis II crew send to their children and families? Before reentry, the crew sent special messages to their nearest and dearest. Hansen said, “Devon, Ashley, and Katelyn, you know, I think it’s worth pointing out I learn as much, maybe more from you than you learn from me. But the one thing I’d remind you, and I think it’s worth reminding ourselves and other youth, is that, all you have to do in any given day is just get up and do your best and try to find joy in your day and try to contribute in a meaningful and positive way…I think we as humans put too much pressure on ourselves looking for perfection, and if you look at what we’re doing out here, it is far from perfection."
Glover said, “Genesis, Maya, Joia, and Corinne, as we are on our way back from this dream of a mission, your mom and I look forward to supporting you, chasing, and catching your own dreams. We spent years coaching you, but we are very much in the transition of being cheerleaders and just rooting for you in life.
Wiseman spoke to his daughters, Ellie and Katy, “I love you, and their support has been unbelievable. I don’t think they really knew what this message meant when we launched, but they have learned through the outpouring of public support…it has been a very proud moment for me as their father to see the joy in their expression.”
Best-Selling Author’s Novel Ranked One Of The 'Best Books Involving Forbidden Love'
In the late 2000s, dystopian series like The Hunger Games and Divergent skyrocketed in popularity. One of the novels in the genre, which was released in 2011, has been ranked among one of the “Best Books Involving Forbidden Love” on Goodreads.
Delirium is the first book in a trilogy by best-selling author, Lauren Oliver. It is a dystopian young adult romance about a society where love is seen as a disease. Anyone who turns 18 is required to undergo a procedure so that they can be “cured” of the emotion. Then they will be married off.
The main character, Lena Haloway, is originally excited about getting the procedure since she watched her mother get destroyed by love and doesn’t want the same to happen to her. However, she starts to fall for an uncured rebel boy days before she is scheduled to get the procedure and isn’t sure whether it’s what she wants anymore.
Delirium was a New York Times bestseller that received largely positive reviews. As one Goodreads user said, “I have to admire Oliver for the creative spin she placed on American society when establishing this dystopian world. She managed to create a plausible universe in which love had been almost completely eradicated. I felt a pang of sorrow each time Oliver highlighted the emotionless shell of a community in which parents exhibited no compassion for their children and married couples exchanged no signs of affection for one another. Such examples reveal the underlying theme: a life without love is not worth living.”

The second novel in the trilogy, Pandemonium, was released in 2012 and the final book, Requiem, was released in 2013. Short ebooks were also released in between, which were ultimately compiled into Delirium Stories: Hana, Annabel, and Raven.
Fox ordered a television pilot of Delirium with Emma Roberts playing the lead role, but they ultimately declined to pick it up. However, another book written by Oliver, Panic, was adapted into an Amazon Prime TV show of the same name. Oliver wrote every episode and served as the executive producer.
Other books that made the list of “Best Books Involving Forbidden Love” include Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and Divergent. The number one spot went to City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, a story about a teenager who discovers a hidden world of demon-hunting warriors called Shadowhunters.
1981 Pop-Rock Classic Became a No. 1 Hit 45 Years Ago Today
It's been exactly 45 years since one of Hall & Oates' biggest hits soared to the top of the music charts.
On April 11, 1981, the '80s rock duo made up of Daryl Hall and John Oatesscored their second No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their now-iconic track, "Kiss on My List."
Released in January 1981 as the third single off their Voices album (1980), "Kiss on My List" reached the No. 1 spot three months later, where it stayed for a three-week reign. It is the duo's second-longest run at the top of the Hot 100, next to their single "Maneater," which spent four consecutive weeks at the top in 1982.
View this post on InstagramOne month after "Kiss on My List" went No. 1, it was certified Gold by the RIAA, signifying 500,000 units sold. Its host album, Voices, was also certified Gold the same month, before later being upgraded to Platinum in January 1982, with 1 million units sold.
But Hall & Oates' superstardom didn't just start there. Just four years before the chart success of "Kiss on My List," the duo earned their first-ever No. 1 hit when "Rich Girl" soared to the top of the Hot 100 on March 26, 1977. The legendary soul-pop track was ranked #23 on Billboard‘s Top 100 Hits of that year and has since joined Spotify’s Billions Club after surpassing one billion streams in February, over 49 years after its initial release.
Following their "Rich Girl" success, the duo would end up topping the chart five times throughout the '80s, with "Private Eyes" reaching the chart summit just months after "Kiss on My List" in August 1981, followed by 1982's "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" and "Maneater" in 1982, and "Out of Touch" in 1984.
Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff’s Department Makes Sudden Change, Former Detective Reacts (Exclusive)
New developments in the case of Nancy Guthrie are drawing attention after the sheriff’s department appears to have made a sudden change to how its radio transmissions are handled. According to YouTube streamers and others following the case, the department has encrypted those communications so that the public can no longer listen in.
While restricting public access to live police communications can help prevent criminals from tracking officer locations and response times—or even planning ambushes—a former detective says transparency is key. Without clear communication about why the move was made, especially in the midst of a high-profile investigation, the decision could raise concerns among both the public and the media.
To better understand why this change happened now, as the Guthrie case is still ongoing, Parade reached out to former NYPD detective David Sarni for some insight.
"When police radio transmissions can be heard live, they can be used to find out response times or even the location of officers," Sarni tells me. "And for safety purposes, agencies are looking to stop them from being public and/or live."
Despite some potential workarounds—Sarni mentions paid apps like "Citizen"—keeping radio transmissions away from the public can be safer for law enforcement.
"Criminals use radio access to locate police and to ID response times," Sarni continues. "There can be policy made as to how radio transmissions can be accessed post-incident, but it makes sense in a heightened terrorist threat, for example, to side with the police on this point."
Sarni says that the Pima County Sheriff's Department should have explained its reasons for encrypting its radio transmissions in the midst of such a high-profile case.
"Pima County needs to be more transparent as to why, especially to local government, because the optics seem as though it’s being done to punish media and disallow access especially amid such a high-profile abduction," Sarni adds.
Parade reached out to the Pima County Sheriff's Department for comment but did not hear back.
Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Anyone with information about what happened to her, the people responsible, or her whereabouts is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).

'Knock Three Times" was written by L. Russell Brown and Irwin Levine. Per The Tennessean. According to the newspaper, Brown reportedly called upon his youth growing up in an apartment building, using the "system his neighbors used to let each other know when they had a phone call downstairs" as the song's base.

Brown told the Nashville Songwriters Association International, "I went to Irwin's house and Irwin said, 'Let's talk about how you grew up in the housing projects.' I said, 'Well, we only had one phone in the building, but we had radiators with steam heat. And, if you lived on the second floor, someone with the phone would hit (the radiator) twice, bing, bing, and you would know the phone call was for you.'"

And he writes a string with a note and some insane kind of beautiful idea of a man dreaming of a girl who is just one floor below he hears the music, and he's envisioning everything."

Makeup Artists Say You Shouldn't Use This 1 Technique After 40
There's a reason you might think your makeup suddenly stopped looking as good as it used to, and it's not that you've forgotten how to apply it. Your skin has changed—it's drier, thinner and has more texture than it did a decade ago. I know, life is not exactly fair!—but you're still using the same techniques and formulas that worked beautifully when your face was completely different. What once created a flawless finish now settles into lines you didn't know existed. What used to look polished might look heavy and flat now.
The most frustrating part? Many women respond to these changes by adding more product—more coverage to hide uneven tone, more powder to set everything, more concealer under the eyes. But celebrity makeup artists who work with mature skin daily see this backfire constantly. The techniques trending on TikTok (think: full-coverage matte foundation, heavy contouring, dramatic eyeliner) are often designed for younger skin with different needs.
Makeup after 40 isn't about doing more. It's simply about doing things differently. We talked to celebrity makeup artists who've worked with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Quinta Brunson to find out which popular techniques actually age your face and what to do instead. Set those Beauty Blenders down for just a quick second and listen up for some new beauty tricks!

The experts were unanimous: heavy, full-coverage foundation is likely aging your face.
Molly R. Stern, who works with Chelsea Handler and Maya Rudolph, identifies this as one of two "major" mistakes, sharing, "Less is more. Use concealer or foundation only where you need it.”
She goes on to say that a face with foundation from hairline to chin is too heavy and will generally settle into fine lines and just generally makes the face look dull.
Scott Barnes—whose clients include Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Gwyneth Paltrow—explains exactly why those viral TikTok techniques don't translate to real life.
"Full-coverage matte formulas are fundamentally thicker and drier, this makes them great for covering blemishes and discolorations as well as offering long wear, especially those with oilier skin,” he says. But for mature skin that tends to be drier with deeper expression lines and wrinkles, these heavy matte formulas tend to look cakey and flat, aging the skin even more.
But that doesn’t mean people with mature skin can or should avoid foundation entirely!
According to celebrity makeup artist Jenepher Reynolds, who's worked with Norah Jones and Harry Connick Jr., there’s updated formulas that make skin shine.
"Today's formulas are often sheer, hydrating and softly radiant,” she tells Parade. “A lightweight foundation, tinted primer or BB cream can even out redness and discoloration while still letting your skin look like skin.”
Barnes also recommends reaching "for medium coverage foundation with a satin or dewy finish, applying with a dual fiber foundation brush in outward, circular strokes to avoid trapping product in the peach fuzz on the face. For any areas that need additional coverage (such as melasma, broken capillaries or sunspots), layer on concealer."

5 Other Makeup Techniques That Can Make You Look OlderBeyond heavy foundation, several other common makeup techniques are actually working against mature skin.
1. Heavy eyeliner that closes up your eyesRenée Loiz, who works with Quinta Brunson and Uzo Aduba, warns against "heavy black eyeliner on the lid. Thick black liner can close up the eyes, make them look smaller and feel dated. Instead, I recommend using a dark brown or brown black liner and tightlining right into the lashes. It opens up the eyes and makes the lashes look fuller without looking harsh."
Reynolds agrees about ditching harsh liner.
"As the eyes naturally change with age, a thick line can take over and make the eyes appear smaller or more closed," she shares.
Instead, she says to focus on soft definition, echoing Loiz's recommendation: “Tightline between the lashes to subtly enhance the eyes without creating a harsh line. Then, add a soft shadow along the upper lash line to build shape."
Avital of Puzzle Makeup has a specific warning about under-eye liner.
"If you've been reaching for a dark pencil under your eyes, it's time to stop. On mature skin, dark liner creates shadow, heaviness and a drooping effect that no amount of concealer can fix," she says.
Instead of liner, she says to try a soft glow or matte eyeshadow applied gently under the lower lash line with a mini brush. It creates the definition you want without the heaviness.

2. Blush placement that could be dragging your face downLoiz has strong opinions here.
"Avoid placing blush directly on the apples of the cheeks," she tells Parade. "That placement can make the face look rounder and less lifted. I prefer applying blush higher up toward the temples to give the face a more sculpted, lifted effect."
However, Barnes also warns against the opposite extreme—the trendy "blush blocking" technique.
"[It's] another avant-garde runway look where a wider block of blush is intensely applied high on the face, close to the temples. [It's] beautiful on the runway and I have seen some really fun editorial looks with this—but as we mature, guess what else is higher on the face and close to the temples? Wrinkles and textured skin around the eye area," he notes.
His preferred technique? Layer a cream blush with a powder blush for a natural, dimensional flushed look that stays all day without looking heavy or cakey—focusing on the apples of the cheeks, directly under the iris of your eye as you look forward.

3. Bleached or ultra-light brows that can wash you outWhile this trend looks editorial on runways and younger celebrities, Barnes doesn't recommend it for mature skin.
"Bleaching or lightening brows that are naturally sparser at this stage in your life is going to wash you out and potentially age you," he explains.
He recommends Anastasia Brow Wiz because "there is a color for everyone—I love the formula as it's not too waxy and the ultra-fine tip allows you to draw hair line strokes so you don't get that thick obvious brow pencil look."

4. Using the wrong technique to blend eyeshadow"If you've been blending your eyeshadow in circles, this is why it never looks quite right," Avital tells Parade. "Blending with the head of the brush in circles directly on the skin is one of the most common techniques women are taught and it's aging your eyes without you even realizing it. It pulls color down, creates muddiness and works against mature skin every single time."
Instead? "Use the body of your brush, not the tip," she suggests. "Soft strokes from the outer corner inward—that's it. No circles, no back and forth."

5. Testing lipstick in the wrong placeAvital points out a mistake almost everyone makes.
"Ever notice how lipstick looks perfect on your arm and then completely different on your lips? That's exactly why swatching on your inner wrist doesn't work. Lip color changes based on your natural lip tone and how light reflects off the pigment," she explains.
Instead, apply it directly to your lips and see how it actually looks on you.

4 Best Makeup Tips for Mature WomenSmall adjustments create dramatic improvements in how fresh and modern your makeup looks.
1. Update your routine regularlyReynolds sees women stuck in ruts constantly.
"A lot of women find a routine that works and stick with it for years. The same shades, the same placement, the same products. The challenge is that skin tone, texture and facial structure naturally evolve over time. What once looked balanced can start to feel dated without you even realizing it," she says.
Instead, revisit your makeup every few years. Update your shades, try newer formulas and adjust placement slightly.
2. Don't be scared of colorStern identifies this as the second major mistake she sees.
"Women over 40 get scared of bold colors," she tells Parade. "A bright flush on the cheek can really spruce up anyone's look. Same with a bright lip.”

3. Master the powder techniqueWhile heavy powder can age skin, Loiz has an alternative technique that works.
"I like to lightly mist a powder brush with setting spray, tap it into loose powder and press it only into the areas that need setting,” she explains, adding that this gives more of an airbrushed finish and keeps the skin from looking cakey.
4. Think in layers and placementBarnes locks everything in with "a light dusting of translucent loose powder," sharing, "Makeup Forever Translucent is my all-time go to."
He also finishes faces by taking the blush brush with whatever product remains and then bounces it across the bridge of the nose, explaining that this technique gives a beautiful, healthy look for mature skin.

10 Cruise Etiquette Rules First-Timers Always Miss (And Regret Later)
There is something almost cinematic about stepping onto a cruise ship for the first time. The scale of it, the hum of activity, the quiet realization that this floating world will be your home for the next several days. Everything feels easy at first. Meals appear when you want them, destinations unfold without effort, and the ocean stretches endlessly in every direction.
But somewhere between your first buffet run and your second attempt to find a pool chair, you start to notice the rhythm beneath it all. Cruises are about sharing space, time, and experience with thousands of other travelers. And for first-timers, it is often the unspoken rules, the small habits and overlooked courtesies, that shape whether the trip feels seamless or surprisingly stressful.

Before You Board: Cruise Planning Etiquette That Sets You Up for Success1. Learn the Ship Before You Step OnboardSeasoned cruisers often emphasize using the cruise line app and reviewing itineraries in advance. Experienced travelers recommend downloading the app early and reviewing schedules to avoid confusion and missed reservations. "Do your homework before you get on the ship. Read everything you can and pay attention to the app. The more you know, the better your cruise will be," said TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me Editor in Chief Daniel Kline.
2. Do Not Arrive Late to EmbarkationCruise ships run on strict timelines. Boarding windows exist for a reason, and ships will not wait for late arrivals. Being late disrupts staff workflow and creates bottlenecks for other passengers. Arriving early gives you breathing room and sets the tone for a more relaxed trip.
3. Pack With Awareness of Shared SpaceCabins are compact by design. Overpacking quickly turns into clutter, especially when two people are sharing a room. A streamlined approach makes everything easier from day one.

4. Do Not Reserve Pool Chairs You Are Not UsingThis is one of the most talked-about cruise frustrations. Leaving a towel on a chair for hours without actually being there creates unnecessary tension. According to Business Insider, etiquette experts and frequent cruisers consistently call this out as inconsiderate behavior that impacts everyone trying to enjoy limited deck space.
5. Practice Good Hygiene in Dining AreasThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends frequent handwashing on cruise ships, especially before eating, because illnesses like norovirus spread easily in close quarters. This is why you will see handwashing stations at buffets and sanitizer at nearly every entrance.
6. Keep Noise Levels RespectfulCabins are closer together than most hotels, and sound carries easily through hallways and walls. Experienced cruisers often point out that late-night noise, loud balcony music, or slamming doors can quickly disrupt others' experience, per Business Insider.
7. Follow Dress Codes When They ApplyExperts note that showing up underdressed can affect the shared atmosphere and experience for others who planned for the occasion, as Business Insider reports. Julie Hirst told the outlet, “Showing up at a formal night in shorts and flip-flops is unacceptable. If you do not want to participate, that is your choice, but do not ruin the event for the other passengers.”

8. Be On Time for Shore ExcursionsExcursions operate on tight schedules tied to port departure times. Being late can delay entire groups or cause them to miss the experience altogether. Travel experts, via Southern Living, emphasize that punctuality during excursions is critical, both for logistics and for respecting fellow travelers’ time.
9. Treat Crew Members With RespectIndustry organizations like Cruise Lines International Association highlight that service quality is a defining part of the cruise experience, supported by extensive onboard staffing and safety standards. Acknowledging that effort with patience and respect helps maintain the positive environment that makes cruising special.
10. Understand Tipping ExpectationsWhether included automatically or paid separately, tipping reflects appreciation for service staff who work behind the scenes. Understanding the system ahead of time avoids confusion and awkward moments onboard.

The Takeaway: Cruise Etiquette Is About Awareness, Not PerfectionCruise etiquette is not about strict rules or formal behavior. It is about understanding that you are part of a shared environment where small actions ripple outward.
From something as simple as washing your hands to arriving on time for an excursion, these choices shape not just your experience, but everyone else’s too.
The best cruises I have taken were not just about destinations. They were about how easy everything felt. And that ease almost always came down to one thing. Travelers who understood the rhythm of the ship and respected it.
The First All-Inclusive Park Hyatt in Mexico Is a Quiet Luxury Game Changer
For a long time, the phrase "all-inclusive" conjured up images of crowded buffets and neon-colored wristbands. But a new wave of high-end hospitality is proving that one-price-fits-all can actually be the ultimate luxury. The latest heavy hitter to join the movement? Park Hyatt, Hyatt’s crown-jewel brand, which has just announced it will open its first-ever all-inclusive property in the Riviera Maya in late 2026.
Located just 20 minutes south of Cancun International Airport, the Park Hyatt Riviera Maya represents a major shift in the travel landscape. While the region is already home to dozens of resorts, this marks the first time a flagship "ultra-luxury" brand of this caliber has ditched the à la carte model for a seamless, inclusive experience.

It follows a growing trend seen with brands like Marriott’s W and Ritz-Carlton, which are increasingly leaning into the "luxury of ease"—giving travelers the high-end amenities they love, from designer spas to chef-led dining, all with a single "paycheck" at the end.
Though official details are still being kept under wraps, early renderings of the beachfront property showcase a sophisticated, minimalist design that feels more like a private estate than a massive resort.

Expect multiple infinity-edge pools, lush garden terraces, and a world-class culinary program that takes the "all-you-can-eat" concept into the realm of fine dining. It’s the kind of place designed for milestone anniversaries or group getaways where the goal is total immersion in the surroundings rather than managing a vacation budget.

For those who prefer to travel on "points and miles," this opening is particularly significant. As a flagship property, the Park Hyatt Riviera Maya will likely sit in the higher tiers of the World of Hyatt award chart. Under the current structure for all-inclusive stays, travelers can expect to redeem between 35,000 and 58,000 points per night for a two-person booking, depending on the season.
While we’ll have to wait a while to officially check in, the message is clear: the future of Mexican luxury is all-inclusive, and it’s never looked more elegant.
