Healthy, luminous locks begin at the scalpâbut achieving stop-and-stare hair is rarely as simple as adding a single product to your routine. With countless oils, serums and treatments promising everything from rapid regrowth to thicker, fuller strands, the category has become increasingly crowdedâand oftentimes, confusing.
While some formulas are grounded in clinical research and thoughtfully selected ingredients, others rely more on marketing than measurable results, making it difficult to know whatâs truly worth your investment. And really, whatâs more frustrating than reading one more label while watching your pillowcase collect new tufts of your former tresses each morning? No, thank you.
To cut through the noise, we spoke with leading trichologists about the ingredients that actually work and the products with proven results. These hair-growth experts spend their days studying the science of the scalp and folliclesâso who better to turn to for real-world clinical insights and recommendations for treating thinning, shedding and breakage?
We also tapped top stylists for their perspective on how to use these treatments effectively, because even the most advanced formula wonât deliver results if itâs applied incorrectly.
The takeaway: while no oil or serum can deliver overnight transformation, the right formulaâpaired with consistent, strategic useâcan help improve scalp health, strengthen strands and create the ideal conditions for fuller, healthier-looking hair over time.
Ahead, the expert-approved hair-growth oils and scalp treatments that stand out for their ingredients, performance and proven results.

Thereâs no sugarcoating it: hair loss at any stage can be incredibly frustrating and, at times, confusing. It often sends people down a rabbit hole of products that promise miracle regrowth or treatments that claim to coax new strands to sprout. But before trying everything under the sun, understanding where the issue originatesâwhether at the follicle or along the hair shaftâis key to identifying the right treatment and restoring healthier, stronger hair.
âHair thinning, shedding and breakage may look similar, but they often stem from very different causes,â explains Tesha Avery, certified trichologist at the North Carolina Hair Loss Center. âThinning is frequently linked to genetics, hormonal changes or underlying health conditions, while shedding is commonly triggered by stress, illness, postpartum shifts or nutrient deficiencies.â Breakage, on the other hand, typically occurs along the hair shaft and is often the result of mechanical damage, heat styling, chemical processing or dryness, she adds.

Ingredients To Look for in Hair-Growth OilsWhen evaluating hair growth oils, itâs important to focus on ingredients backed by both clinical research and emerging science.
âThe ingredient with the strongest clinical evidence is minoxidil, which is FDA-approved for hair regrowth,â explains Avery. âCaffeine has emerging research suggesting it may help stimulate hair follicles, while certain peptides and rosemary extract show promising support for circulation and overall follicle health.â
She adds that some newer formulations are incorporating plant-based stem cell extracts designed to support the scalp environmentâthough research in this area is still evolving. Ultimately, results depend on the underlying cause of hair loss and consistent, long-term use.
What Makes a Hair-Growth Oil Effective? As much as weâd love instant results from a single drop applied to the scalp, hair oils take time to work their magicâand consistency is key, say experts.
âA hair-growth oil works best when it supports the health of the scalpâthe environment where hair actually grows,â explains Avery. While oils donât directly make hair grow faster, they can help improve circulation, reduce dryness, protect the scalp barrier and minimize breakage. When used regularly as part of a scalp-care routine, nourishing oils help create the conditions for stronger, more resilient strands over time, she adds.

How To Use Hair-Growth Oils for the Best ResultsSo youâve found the right hair growth oilânow itâs all about how you use it. According to Kerry E. Yates, trichologist and founder of Colour Collective, application timing is key: serums and oils should be the final step in your routine to allow them to fully absorb and do their job.
âIf applying in the morning, use them before setting the hair,â she says. âIf applied at night, they should be topically applied before bed.â What you shouldnât do is rinse them out immediately. âDo NOT apply the serum and then wash your hair,â she adds. âI liken it to using a moisturizer on your face and then cleansing your skin right afterward.â
Technique matters just as much as timing. Celebrity stylist Marc Ballance recommends applying oils directly to the scalp in sections, focusing on the roots. âThen massage with your hands to make sure the product actually contacts the scalpânot just the hair,â he explains. âThese products are for the root and scalp, so really work them in.â
As for when and how often to use them, thereâs no one-size-fits-all approach. Ballance prefers applying oils to a slightly damp scalp but notes that results ultimately depend on the formula. Both morning and nighttime applications can be effective, as long as the product has time to absorb. Frequency should also be tailored to your hair typeâthose prone to oiliness may want to limit use to a few times per week, while others can apply more as needed.
When it comes to how long to leave oils on, follow the productâs instructions. Growth-focused formulas are typically designed to be left in, while richer oils can double as conditioning treatments and may only need 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing. The goal, experts agree, is consistent, targeted use that supports scalp health over time.
Styling Mistakes That Can Make Hair Loss Look WorseConstant tension is one of the most common culprits, according to master colorist and founder of LRNÂ Beauty in New York City, Lauren Paglionico. Tight ponytails, while convenient, can put stress on the hairline and lead to long-term damage. âI love a pony, but that tension can cause permanent damage,â she says, suggesting a loose braid as a gentler alternativeâespecially during workouts.
Another often-overlooked issue is not washing your hair frequently enough. When youâre experiencing thinning, buildup from oils, sweat and styling products can accumulate on the scalp, making hair appear thinner and potentially worsening the condition. Keeping the scalp clean and balanced is key to maintaining healthier-looking hair.
The 18 Best Hair-Growth Oils, Tested by TrichologistsBest Overall: Nulastin Scalp Treatment, $136 Shop It on AmazonFor those with naturally fine strands or roots that easily get weighed down, NYC-based trichologist Shab Caspara recommends Nulastinâs fast-absorbing formula. Powered by the brandâs Elastaplex technology, the treatment combines proteins and signal peptides designed to help anchor hair follicles and reinforce them at the root.
Best Splurge: The Scalp Treatment by Augustinus Bader, $93Amazon
Shop It on AmazonIf luxury scalp care is on your radar, Yates points to Augustinus Baderâs cult-favorite treatment for its science-backed formula and skin-care approach to hair health. âIt supports follicle health and helps maintain moisture balance on the scalp,â she explains.
Formulated with antioxidants to defend against environmental stressors, it treats the scalp with the same level of care typically reserved for facial skin.
Best Overnight Treatment: Aveda Overnight Scalp Renewal Serum, $42 Shop It on AmazonDesigned to work while you sleep, this lightweight treatment helps maintain a healthy scalp microbiome while soothing irritation and supporting proper moisture balance. Yates notes that itâs suitable for all hair types and appreciates that the formula has been reviewed by a dermatologist, making it a reliable option for anyone looking to strengthen their scalp-care routine overnight.
Best for Follicle Support: SpoiledChild A22 Biotin Boost Hair + Scalp Serum, $66 Shop It on AmazonThink of this vitamin-packed formula as a daily multivitamin for your scalp. According to Yates, the serumâs blend of biotin and supportive nutrients is designed to promote a healthy hair life cycle while strengthening follicle functionâan important factor for anyone experiencing thinning or fragile strands.
Best Soothing Formula: Privé Scalp Reboot Serum, $19 Shop It on AmazonFor anyone dealing with sensitivity or irritation, this vegan scalp serum delivers a calming blend of natural ingredients designed to reduce inflammation and rebalance the scalp environment. Yates also loves that it comes with a dedicated scalp-massaging brush, making it easier to distribute the formula while stimulating circulation.
Best Peptide Treatment: Snow Fox Tetrapeptide & Ginseng Hair and Scalp Serum, $88 Shop It on AmazonAnother standout option for those experiencing thinning or compromised follicles is Snow Foxâs peptide-powered treatment. âThe formula combines peptides with natural actives to support optimal scalp health and follicle fitness,â Yates says.
Itâs easy to apply, relatively cost-effective and designed to be used consistentlyâthough she notes that most users should allow up to 90 days to see noticeable improvements.
Best All-Natural Solution: Kilgour MD Scalp Serum, $60 Shop It on AmazonSeeking hair replacement solutions without a lot of scary chemicals involved? Caspara co-signs Kilgour MD's Scalp Serum for its ability to combat hair thinning, while replenishing sparse areas.
"The perfect unmedicated, all-natural replacement to hair loss medications like finasteride, spironolactone and dutasteride," she says, noting that its clinically studied active ingredients support 200%+ hair follicle growth, with no side effects reported in a peer-reviewed trial.
Another bonus? It's ideal for men dealing with pattern baldness at the hairline and crown areas who want to stop using medications or have not had success with them.
Best Science-Backed Topical: Plated Hair Serum, $379 Shop It on PlatedCaspara calls this potent vial a true next-generation treatment, powered by platelet-derived exosomes and proprietary Renewosome technology to deliver visibly thicker, fuller-looking hair while supporting overall follicle function.
The formula is further enhanced with biotin to reinforce the scalp barrier, hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate and soothe and panthenol (vitamin B5) to improve strength and flexibility. "It also contains nourishing ingredients to preserve scalp health,â she explains.
Use once daily for those experiencing active or chronic thinning.
Best Budget: Pure Australian Emu Oil, $15 Shop It on AmazonWhen it comes to affordable yet effective hair growth solutions, pure Australian emu oil stands out as a powerful contender. According to celebrity trichologist William Gaunitz, FWTS, emu oil is one of the most effective oils for supporting hair regrowth due to its unique ability to deeply penetrate the scalpâespecially when its warmed to room temperature.
âIâve used it in my clinics for multiple inflammatory scalp conditions and to support hair growth,â Gaunitz explains, highlighting its versatility and clinical credibility.
Best Hair Oil Cocktail: Forest and Shore Hair Growth Oil, $29 Shop It on AmazonâThis oil has many fantastic ingredients for supporting hair growth,â says Gaunitz, pointing to the inclusion of caffeine and biotin alongside castor and rosemary oils, which help support overall scalp health and encourage regrowth.
Together, this well-rounded blend works to energize the scalp, strengthen strands and create a more balanced environment for consistent growth over time. Itâs an easy, all-in-one option for anyone looking to streamline their routine without sacrificing performance.
Best Scalp Serum: Advanced Trichology HairStem Serum, $50 Shop It on AmazonWhile not a traditional hair oil, this scalp-focused serum delivers many of the same benefitsâthanks to a potent concentration of essential oils at the core of its formula.
The blend is carried in an alcohol-based herbal tincture, designed to enhance absorption and deliver active ingredients directly to the scalp. From a clinical standpoint, it helps minimize the impact of DHT, reduce inflammation and create a healthier environment for hair growth. The inclusion of essential oils also supports the topical delivery of key nutrients, including vitamin D3 and vitamin B5, to nourish the follicles.
âI use this product as my go-to scalp serum for most hair loss conditions,â says Gaunitz, underscoring its versatility and efficacy.
Best for Reduced Shedding: The Nue Co. Supa Thick Hair Serum, $44 Shop It on AmazonWhile no topical can promise instant regrowth, the right formula can help support the scalp during periods of temporary shedding. âGrowth oils may help with short-term hair loss caused by hormonal changes, stress, shifts in diet, illness or even anesthesia,â says Paglionico.
âIâm very particular about what I recommend and will only suggest The Nue Co. Supa Thick Hair Serum to my clients,â she adds, noting that the science-backed formula uses Redensyl, clary sage and lactic acid to support the scalp environment, while rosemary, peppermint and camellia oils help boost circulation.
Best Multi-Tasker: Viva Naturals Organic Coconut Oil, $10 Shop It on AmazonA classic for a reason, Yates calls coconut oil a great natural emollient. "It's the perfect partner for hair oiling treatments, when applied to wet hair," she explains.
Not only does it detangle like a pro, but it helps prevent breakage and further hair loss, while instantly improving hair's manageability, suppleness and shine.
Best for Fine Hair: Nutrafol Hair Serum, $49 Shop It on AmazonAlthough Avery can attest to Nutrafol's proven track record for encouraging new growth in sparse areas of fine hair, she warns that the most common mistake with this lightweight serum is overuse.
"Applying too much oil can weigh the hair down," she cautions. "Instead of dropping oil directly onto the scalp, put a small amount in your hands, rub it between your fingers and gently massage a thin layer into the scalp. A little goes a long way."
Best for Fuller-Looking Hair: Vegamour Gro Hair Serum for Hair Thinning, $64 Shop It on AmazonOn the more splurge-worthy end of the spectrum, this popular serum has earned a loyal following for its plant-based approach to thicker-looking hair. Avery highlights it as a standout: âItâs one of the higher-end options designed to support fuller-looking hair.â
The formula combines turmeric to help improve the appearance of density, caffeine to energize the scalp, and a proprietary blend of red clover and mung bean to nourish follicles and support healthier-looking strands.
Clean and vegan, the serum is designed to reduce the appearance of shedding and promote visibly thicker, fuller hairâwith results often reported in as little as 90 days.
Best for Thinning Edges: Cécred Restoring Hair & Edge Drops, $56Amazon
Shop It on AmazonThe hairline is often the first area to show signs of stress, making targeted care essential. CĂ©credâs lightweight, nutrient-rich formula is designed to support fragile follicles, smooth breakage and promote healthier-looking edges over timeâwithout weighing hair down.
Our experts emphasize that consistency is key with treatments like this. âAll five of these options can support thinning at the crown when used consistently as natural topical treatments,â says Avery. âHowever, if thinning is advanced or progressive, it may be time to consult a dermatologist for a prescription-based or customized topical treatment.â
Best for Split Ends: Kerastase Nutritive Split Ends Hair Serum, $49 Shop It on AmazonKérastase's Split Ends Serum is designed to nourish dry, damaged ends while helping reduce the appearance of thinning caused by breakage. As Gretchen Friese-Oligee, hairstylist, certified trichologist and hair loss expert, notes, strengthening fragile ends is key to maintaining fuller-looking hair.
When choosing a hair oil or serum, itâs important to consider your hair texture. "Fine hair typically benefits from lightweight formulas that wonât weigh it down, such as The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density or K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil. Thicker or coarser hair, on the other hand, can handle richer, more nourishing options like KĂ©rastaseâs Nutri-Supplement Split Ends Serum for added smoothing and repair," she says.
Best Lightweight: Keranique Radiant Repair Oil, $30Ulta
Shop It at UltaMany hair-growth oils can feel heavy or stickyâwhich is the last thing you want coming in contact with your pillow at nightâbut lightweight options do exist. âI like Keranique Radiant Repair Oil,â says Friese-Oligee. âIt helps to moisturize and strengthen the hair, which reduces hair thinning due to breakage.â
For more targeted scalp care, she adds that BosleyMD Follicle Energizer is another option worth considering: âIt contains caffeine and biotin to help areas of thinning when applied to the scalp.â

This Classic Movie Still Airs Every Yearâand Fans Never Get Tired of It
Few films have the staying power of The Ten Commandments. First released in 1956, the epic biblical drama has become a yearly tradition for many viewers, who continue to tune in each time it airs. With its sweeping scale, memorable performances, and enduring story, the film has managed to hold its place in pop culture across generations.
Directed by Cecil B. DeMille, the 1956 classic usually airs at least once before Easter Sundayâand this year is no different. The movie aired on Palm Sunday and will air again on Holy Saturday (April 4) on ABC.
The film follows the life of Moses, portrayed by legendary actor Charlton Heston, from his rescue as an infant from the Nile to his rise as the leader who would free the enslaved Hebrew people. Along the way, it depicts his tense rivalry with Rameses II, played by Yul Brynner, the devastating plagues of Egypt, and the Exodus, culminating in a powerful moment on Mount Sinai where he receives the Ten Commandments.
Many social media users are already getting excited to watch the film, which airs annually around this time of year. The film is nearly four hours long, not taking commercials into account.
"I watched it every year and I will watch next Saturday. I don't know why they don't show on Easter anymore," one X user wrote.
"I wouldn't consider myself very religious but, I watched it every year and was captivated. Such a great movie," someone else said.
"Every year. I still watch it when it comes on. Epic," a third comment read.
"Holy Week tradition," a fourth person weighed in.
Will you be watching The Ten Commandments this year?

Melissa Gilbert Breaks Silence in First Interview Since Husband Timothy Busfield's Arrest
Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert broke her silence in the first interview since her husband, The West Wing actor Timothy Busfield, was arrested and charged with child sex abuse.
On Thursday, April 2, Good Morning America previewed an interview featuring Gilbert and George Stephanopoulos. The full sit-down will air on GMA on Monday, April 6.
In the clip, Stephanopoulos asked, âWhat has this whole episode been like for you?â
The actress who played Laura Ingalls Wilder confessed, "Hell. This has been the most traumatizing experience of our lives.â
âOur life as we knew it is done,â Gilbert, 61, continued, of herself and Busfield, 68. âWe are grieving what we hadâall of our plans, all of our dreams, all of our ideas, all of our projects. For Tim, it's done. He's canceled."
To conclude the clip, Gilbert boldly declared, "Even if he's exonerated, he will always be that guy. The last person in the world who would hurt a child. And believe me, if I thought for a second that Tim Busfield hurt a child, he'd have a lot more to worry about than prison.â
After turning himself in to police on Jan. 13, Busfield pleaded not guilty to four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child, all third-degree felonies, on Feb. 10. The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) issued an arrest warrant fr him in January, alleging that he sexually abused twin actors, 11, after they met on the set of The Cleaning Lady. One of the alleged victims was just 7 when the incidents began.
âTheyâre all lies, and I did not do anything to those little boys, and Iâm gonna fight it,â Busfield said in a video released by TMZ. âIâm gonna fight it with a great team, and Iâm gonna be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies.â
Gilbert released a statement through her publicist after her husband's arrest, explaining that she was âhonoring the request of Timâs lawyers not to speak publicly while the legal process unfolds.â It added, "Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time,â per ABC News.
Busfield's trial date is reportedly set for May 2027. Catch Gilbert's full interview with Stephanopoulos on Monday, April 6 ,on ABC.

This Beloved Storytellerâs Work Still Inspires Movies TodayâAnd He Was Born 219 Years Ago
Before they were adapted into animated children's films, they were first classic stories created by a single author. Celebrations are in honor of Hans Christian Andersen, who was born on April 2, 1805, and is responsible for some of the most beloved literary fairytales fans have enjoyed for decades.
Born in Odense, Denmark, Andersen was a prolific writer who wrote plays, novels, and poems, but was largely known for his fairy tales. One of his earliest found works was "The Tallow Candle," which was discovered in a Danish archive and said to have been written in the 1820s.
When it came to his literary fairytales, one of his first publications was a nine-story collection that was published in three installments. In May 1835, four stories were released and would be familiar to many. "The Tinderbox," "Little Clause and Big Claus," "The Princess and the Pea," and "Little Ida's Flowers" were the first volume installment. "The Princess and the Pea" has become a longtime favorite and was adapted into a stage musical in 1959 with Carol Burnett as the heroine. It became a TV film in 1961 with Samantha Eggar and was revived as a musical withSarah Jessica Parker. Liza Minnellialso played a TV role.
The second installment was made up of the tales "The Naughty Boy", "The Traveling Companion", and "Thumbelina." The last story was also heavily adapted starting in 1924, and was adapted by Hallmark, Golden Films, and Warner Bros as the 1994 animated movie under the same name.
What gained Andersen international fame was his third booklet, which published the infamous "The Little Mermaid" and "The Emperor's New Clothes." "The Little Mermaid" was originally published in 1837 and became one of Andersen's most popular works, which was adapted. In 1985, NBC aired an anthology series hosted by Shirley Temple that brought to life the fairytale. It was adapted into a 1976 Russian film and a theatre production in 1987.
The movie adaptation that many grew up with was none other than Disney's The Little Mermaid in 1989. It was originally proposed as a package film featuring vignettes of Andersen tales and loosely based on the fairytale. The characters and fairytale inspired a generation and pop culture. It was later adapted into a live-action film in 2023.
His other adapted works include The Ugly Duckling from 1931 and the 1939 remake, The Red Shoes in 1948, and Frozen, which is loosely inspired by his work "The Snow Queen." Many countries around the world adapted his fairytales from Japan, Russia, and Britain.
Andersen's literary contributions to the world of fairytales is unforgettable. In early 1872, Andersen fell from his bed and never fully recovered from the injuries. He later started to show signs of liver cancer and died on August. 4, 1975, at the age of 70.

Does Kitty End Up with Min-Ho in Season 3 of 'XO, Kitty'?
K-Dramas are especially expert at building romance between two leadsâand with a buildup that's so intense, the impending kiss almost always goes completely viral.
So it's no surprise that Jenny Hanâthe writer and creator of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before book series and its spinoff XO, Kittyâis adept at the slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance. In XO, Kitty, the titular character Kitty (Anna Cathcart) has had a love-hate relationship with wealthy elite student Min-Ho Moon (Sang Heon Lee). At the end of Season 1, Min-Ho confessed, "I think I fell in love with you... A little bit. Or. A lot." Millions of fans around the world let out an audible sigh as that line alone became one of the most replayed moments in the show's history.
But even with that declaration, a surprised Kitty rebuffed him and the dance continued into Season 2. She explored her sexuality and the two dealt with their own personal crisesâall while building a solid foundation of friendship and mutual admiration.
By the end of Season 2, it really looked like Kitty was about to express her feelings to Min-Ho, just like he had done at the end of Season 1. Unfortunately, Min-Ho preempted this by saying he probably should stick to his playboy ways after getting burned by Stella (Audrey Huynh), who had used him in a revenge plot against his father. As Min-Ho was about to leave to go on tour with his father and superstar brother, Kitty impulsively asked if she could tag along.
So where does that leave Kitty and Min-Ho going into Season 3? Let's take a look.
Kitty and Min-Ho are endgame Anna Cathcart as Kitty and Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho in Season 3, Episode 2 of XO, KittySeason 3 is Kitty and Min-Ho's senior year at K.I.S.S. (Korean International School in Seoul, South Korea) so if they don't date this year, they most likely never will. As the two have been dancing around their attraction for the past two seasons, it's more than likely that these two are going to lock lips at some point in Season 3.

Do Min-Ho and Kitty get together in the books? While Kitty is a supporting character in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before books, Min-Ho is not. XO, Kitty is a spinoff series created for the screen and was never published in book format, so the character of Min-Ho did not actually exist before the Netflix series.
Intimate without a single kiss Min Ho and Kitty sit together on a flight.Netflix
Min-Ho and Kitty remain friends throughout Season 2 and never even share a kiss (aside from some awkward dreams). This creates that smoldering burn of desire that keeps viewers glued to their screens. Even though Kitty turned down Min-Ho's declaration of love at the beginning of Season 2, he still remains her friend and is there for her when she needs one.
The two become closer through their friendship and ultimately share a more intimate relationship than either would have expected. She's there for him when things go sideways with Stella and as he copes with the turmoil of his K-Pop idol-making dad. Meanwhile, he's there for her when her letter to Yuri is revealed and when she feared she inherited her mother's worst traits after feeling rejected by her Korean family. It's these moments of friendship and support that end up feeling more romantic than blatant displays of love and affection.
âThat is an opportunity for Kitty to see that Min Ho is a really true friend and is someone who wants to show up for Kitty regardless of his feelings, regardless of his pride that she turned him down,â Cathcart has said of the two characters in Season 2. And when Kitty discovers that Stella isn't who she says she is? âIt really eats (at) her, which is a very relatable thing so many people have experienced, seeing (that person) with someone else really shows you your true feelings,â she added.
Their most romantic scene didn't involve a kiss The hot tub scene seen 'round the worldNetflix
In Season 2, when Kitty's therapeutic letter of self-reflection to Yuri is revealed to the entire group, she escapes by sitting by herself in the hot tub. Min-Hoânoticing she is nowhere to be foundâdiscovers her there and gets in with herâfully clothedâto comfort her. "This is a pivotal point for the two of them," Cathcart has said. "Because this is the first time they're able to show up for each other while also acknowledging that there was something that happened between them."

This Common GLP-1 Dosing Mistake Can Backfire Fast, Doctors Warn
GLP-1s are proving to be one of the most important medical advances of our time. According to data collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 32.4% of people in the U.S. with obesity have used a GLP-1 for weight loss, and nearly one in three U.S. adults with diabetes has used a GLP-1 to manage it. These rates have very likely gone up significantly since this data was collected in 2024.
Obesity is a significant risk factor for many life-threatening conditions, including cardiovascular disease, liver disease, kidney disease and several forms of cancer. This means that since GLP-1s can help reverse obesity, it literally saves lives. Many doctors and researchers believe that there are even more long-term benefits of GLP-1s than we currently know. Although itâs important to note that itâs also too early to know the potential negative consequences of taking a GLP-1 long-term as well.
As with any medication, GLP-1 medications must be taken correctly. Otherwise, it may not work properly or could even put oneâs health in danger. Thereâs one particular GLP-1 mistake that obesity medicine doctors often see and warn strongly against. Keep reading to find out how it can backfire and what doctors say to do instead.

Why GLP-1 Users Often Experience NauseaEven with all its benefits, GLP-1s do have their drawbacks, such as side effects. An estimated 20% of people (one in five) taking a GLP-1 experience nausea.Â
âNausea is one of the most common side effects associated with GLP-1 medications and it tends to occur more frequently in what I call âsuper responders.â These are often patients who start at a lower body mass index and experience rapid weight loss even at lower doses, which suggests heightened sensitivity to the medication,â explainsDr. Betsy Dovec, MD, FACS, a bariatric surgeon with BodyByBariatrics.Â
Dr. Dovec explains that nausea from a GLP-1 is most common after first starting the medication. Dr. Wiljon Beltre, MD, a bariatric surgeon at Beltre Bariatrics in Orlando, Florida, adds that overeating or eating high-fat meals can also make nausea more common when taking a GLP-1. âThese meds slow down your stomach emptying, so if you overfill the pouch, that food just sits there, leading to nausea or reflux,â he says.
David Petrus Ibars/Getty Images
The GLP-1 Dosing Mistake That Can Completely BackfireAs a way to reduce nausea, some people skip doses. Both doctors warn against doing this.
âSkipping doses because of nausea is understandable, but it is not always the best solution. These medications have long half-lives, meaning they stay in your system for several days, and consistent dosing is what allows your body to adapt over time. If you skip doses too frequently, you disrupt that steady state, which can actually make side effects worse when you restart,â Dr. Dovec says.
In other words, skipping doses prevents your body from adapting to the medication. This, both doctors say, can prolong side effects and also prevent the medication from working properly.
âWhen you take the next dose, it hits your system like a ton of bricks because your body has lost its tolerance. You often end up feeling twice as sick as you would have if youâd just stayed the course,â Dr. Beltre says.
Skipping doses can also backfire, leading to weight gain instead of weight loss.
âObesity is a chronic disease, and when you skip doses, youâre letting the disease take control again. Youâll see cravings return, diabetics can see blood sugar spike and your weight loss will likely plateau. It can be very demoralizing for a patient to see the scale stop moving just because they were trying to avoid a day of sickness,â Dr. Beltre tells Parade.

Doctor-Approved Ways To Deal With Nausea From GLP-1sAs tempting as it may be, skipping doses is not the best way to deal with nausea from GLP-1s. What should you do instead? To reduce the risk of experiencing nausea as a side effect, both doctors say itâs important to avoid eating big meals, especially ones that are high in fatty foods, like processed meats or fried food. They also emphasize the importance of staying hydrated.Â
Dr. Dovec says that timing the injection to the evening or before a day off (so symptoms can be managed more comfortably) can also be helpful. If you are experiencing nausea as a side effect, she recommends talking to your doctor about taking a medication that can help, such as ondansetron.

If youâve tried these suggestions and are still experiencing nausea, itâs important to talk to your doctor and come up with a new plan. No one should go through life feeling nauseous all the time.
âIf someone is experiencing persistent nausea on a GLP-1, the first step is not to push through it but to adjust the plan,â Dr. Dovec says, explaining that this can mean staying at the current dose longer (GLP-1 doses typically increase over time until the desired dose is reached), reducing the dose, optimizing hydration and nutrition or switching to a different GLP-1.
âUltimately, GLP-1 medications are powerful tools, but they require a thoughtful, individualized approach. Patients should never feel like they have to âtough it outâ with side effects, and open communication with their prescribing provider is essential to finding the right balance between effectiveness and quality of life,â Dr. Dovec emphasizes.
Instead of skipping doses or troubleshooting on your own, talk to your doctor. Together, you can come up with a plan that will help you meet your health goals without nausea getting in the way.

This New Costco Deli Find Has Sushi Lovers Taking Notice
If you've ever wandered the Costco deli section looking for something beyond the usual rotisserie chicken or pre-made salads, there's a new option showing up, and sushi fans are taking notice.
The Kirkland Signature Sushi Burrito with Crab and Salmon Poke has been spotted in warehouses, combining familiar sushi flavors into a handheld format. It includes snow crab, sriracha salmon poke, Inari pockets, and Bachan sauce.
Priced at $16.99 per pound, a 1.38-pound container comes to $23.45, consistent with other prepared deli items.
You can see it in this April 1 TikTok from @costcoaisles:

⏠Tokyo Drift - Xavier WulfFlavor-wise, it stays close to what sushi fans expect. The salmon poke is lightly marinated, the crab is sweet and flaky, and everything comes together in a savory combination that doesn't feel overly heavy. The portion is generous, making it easy to split or save for later.

As the weather warms up, quick lunches and picnic-friendly options start to take priority. This fits easily into that mix with no prep required.
Shoppers were quick to react. One wrote, "Wish they had this at my Costco." Another added, "Please tell me this is not for April Fools, this looks good."
Although it's real, availability can vary by location. Costco often tests new deli items in select regions first, so it may not be in every warehouse just yet.
Costco's Sushi Burrito Is a Larger, Uncut Roll Similar to EhomakiIf the idea of a sushi burrito sounds familiar, that's because oversized sushi rolls have been around for years. According to Chopsticks Chronicles, in Japan, ehomaki is a type of futomaki, or thick sushi roll, traditionally made with seven fillings for the spring Setsubun festival. The number is tied to the seven gods of fortune in Japanese folklore and is believed to bring good luck and prosperity for the year.
Traditional Japanese sushi rolls.Image via Shutterstock/ThomsonD
These rolls are intentionally large, often about 3 to 4 inches in diameter and up to 10 inches long, and they're left uncut. Cutting them is said to "cut" your luck, so they're eaten whole. That same concept carries over here, with everything combined into one substantial roll rather than smaller, sliced pieces.
If you're looking for something new to try, this sushi meal stands out for being fresh and fun. So, on your next Costco run, take a detour past the deli case, and you might walk out with your new favorite lunch.

Love Goodreads Challenges? 12 New Spring Challenges Have Been Released
Thereâs a lot of love that comes with reading, and one of those is winning challenges. Goodreads allows us to set our own reading challenge, with a number of books we aim to read in a year. While thatâs great, it can leave us a little limited, as we all tend to stick to the genres that we love the most.
Thatâs why Goodreads started offering other types of challenges. The 2026 Spring Challenges are now live, with 12 offers for readers. Only a handful of those challenges are open now, with the others being opened later in the season or as you claim the first ones.
7 Goodreads Reading Challenges to Get Started WithThere are currently seven out of the 12 challenges available, with one of them being âEditorsâ Picks.â You can also opt for âPage-Turner,â âSpeed Reader,â âBook Boss,â âCommunity Picks,â âTrending Books,â and âMarathon Reader.â
This is where it becomes a little more limited, as you need to ready one of those within the 90 days of spring set â and there are 89 days left at the time of writing this â for the read to count. Even if youâve read one of the books in the past, youâll need to read it again for it to count.
The other five challenges are mysteries right now. Theyâll open up soon!
Which Books Can You Read This Spring? With the âPage Turnerâ challenge, you need to read two books within the period of April 1 and July 1, 2026. These can be any books you want. The âSpeed Readerâ challenge is another one where you need to read a certain number of books rather than specific options. Youâll need to get through three books during spring.
Likewise, âBook Bossâ is another quantity challenge. In this one, itâs getting through five books within the three-month period.
The âTrending Booksâ category changes with each challenge, and they are newer books with early buzz. Goodreads goes through all the early reviews to see what people think are the best, breaking it into different genres. Some of the top picks this season are Good People by Patmeena Sabit, Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser, The Astral Librady by Kate Quinn, and Mate by Ali Hazelwood.
âCommunity Picksâ covers mystery and thrillers in spring 2026. The list includes novels released across the years, with Dead Debbie by Freida McFadden and My Husbandâs Wife by Alice Feeney on the list.
âMarathon Readerâ is aimed at those who want to read longer books. They are at least 500 pages in length, promoting devotion. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy and Les Miserables by Victor Hugo are among the list.
Finally, itâs âEditorâs Picks,â which is a little more self-explanatory compared to other challenges. These are the ones that Goodread picks, with a selection from different genres. For this spring, you can choose from the likes of Marogâs Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe, Kin by Tayari Jones, The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf, and The Shots You Take by Rachel Reid.
Now you just need to find the time to get through all the challenges. Are you up for it?
Grammy-Winning Bandâs Founding Guitarist Arrested on Second-Degree Murder Charges: Report
Brady Ebert, a founding member of the Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile, has reportedly been arrested on second-degree murder charges.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Ebert, 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 31, in Montgomery County, Maryland. The publication also noted that in addition to the attempted murder claim, Ebert was also charged with one count of assault in relation to an incident on Sunday, March 29.
Ebert appeared in court on Wednesday, April 1, and is currently being held without bail. According to Stereogum, there are no reputable reports about Ebert's alleged target or about the incident that led to his arrest.Â
Ebert formed the group in 2010 with Brendan Yates, Franz Lyons, and Daniel Fang. However, he departed in 2022 under circumstances that haven't been discussed publicly. Pat McCrory and Meg Mills later joined the band.
Since leaving Turnstile, Ebert launched a new Baltimore hardcore band called the S.E.T. While they released their debut EP, Self Evident Truth, Ebert was soon kicked out of the band for trashing Turnstile on social media, Stereogum reported.
Turnstile's Success at the GrammysWithout Ebert, Turnstile found success at the Grammys, even before they won a single award. The band had the honor of being the first group to ever be nominated in the Rock, Metal, and Alternative categories in a single year. But 16 years after forming, they took home the award for Best Rock Album for their 2025 record, Never Enough.

In a unique move, the album was also accompanied by a movie, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
âYeah, it was something Iâve always wanted to do, as far as having a full album film, but it always felt very out of reach,â Yates told Rolling Stone last December. âObviously, itâs an insane thing to do. But when writing the songs, once you start to kind of shape songs, you start to kind of get visuals â you start to feel colors and then, it kind of goes to settings. By the time we finished the album, there was kind of an outline for how a film could bring the songs a new life that goes beyond just the songs themselves.â
The 4 Birth Months That Make Everyone Feel Welcome
Some people have a unique ability to make you feel comfortable almost instantly. This talent isn't always obvious or flashy; it can be something as simple as the way they greet you, how they involve you in conversation, or how quickly they sense what might make you feel more at ease. It often manifests in small actions: creating space for others, asking questions, or noticing who hasnât yet had a chance to speak. In astrology, the energy associated with someoneâs birth month can influence how they interact with others and the type of environment they create. Certain birth months are often associated with social awareness and warmth, helping people feel genuinely welcomed.
Liking people and making them feel welcome arenât always the same thing. The difference often comes down to awareness through who is paying attention, who is making space, and who is thinking about how others are experiencing the moment. While anyone can create that kind of environment, these birth months tend to do it in a way that feels natural and consistent over time. Read on to discover which four birth months tend to make everyone feel welcome.

1986 Horror Novel Ranked No. 1 'Scariest Stephen King Book' by Goodreads
Stephen King has published more than 60 novels, but Goodreads readers who voted on the site's 'Scariest Stephen King Book' list landed on one title: It, the 1986 novel about seven children stalked by a shape-shifting entity in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. The book earned a score of more than 9,000 points on the community-ranked list, edging out runner-up The Shining by nearly 700.
The novel runs to more than 1,100 pages, spans two timelines, and builds its horror on the specific fears of childhood, and the particular way adults forget them. The entity at the center of it, most often wearing the face of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, became one of the most recognizable figures in modern horror before a single frame of film was ever shot.
It has been adapted for the screen twice, most recently as a two-part film series beginning in 2017. The 2017 film grossed over $700 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing horror film of all time. It was made on a budget of just $35 million. Its $123.1 million opening weekend shattered the previous record for a horror film by more than double, and stood as the largest September debut in box office history at the time.

It ranks atop a top 20 filled with monsters, spirits, psychological horror, and, frankly, insight into a lot of our own fears. The Shining (1977) holds the No. 2 spot; Stanley Kubrick's 1980 adaptation, starring Jack Nicholson, grossed $47 million and has endured as one of the titles most consistently cited as among the scariest films ever made. Pet Sematary (1983) sits at No. 3, Salem's Lot at No. 4, and Misery(1987) at No. 5. The 1990 film version of Misery grossed $61.3 million worldwide, and Kathy Bates's Academy Award for Best Actress made it the only film based on a King novel to win an Oscar, as well as sending ankle-based shivers down the spines of everyone who saw it.
Of the 20 books on the list, 18 have been adapted for either film or television. The two exceptions are Revival(2014), King's unsettling riff on Frankensteinand Lovecraftian horror, which came close to a film adaptation when Mike Flanaganwrote a screenplay and received King's own approval, but Warner Bros. ultimately considered it unfilmable within the approved budget, and Duma Key (2008), which has had multiple adaptation rumors circulate without any reputable or recent project materializing.
The rest of the top 20 spans four decades of King's output and covers nearly every variety of horror he has worked in: supernatural possession (Christine, No. 9), psychological confinement (Gerald's Game, No. 10), small-town corruption (Needful Things, No. 11), creature horror (The Mist, No. 12), and alien invasion (Dreamcatcher, No. 19). Apt Pupil, the 1982 novella about a teenager who befriends a former Nazi war criminal, rounds out the list at No. 20, a reminder that King's most disturbing material doesn't always require a supernatural element.
The Stand (1978), King's post-apocalyptic epic and one of his most celebrated books, appears at No. 6 despite being a novel that many readers consider more science fiction than horror. That reflects something about how Goodreads readers evaluate fear. Specifically, it's not always the monster that makes something scary.
5 Small Town 'Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives' Spots That Are Worth the Road Trip
Thereâs a moment on every road trip when hunger stops being casual and starts feeling urgent. It hits somewhere between exits, when your tank is fine but your patience isnât, and suddenly a handwritten sign or gravel parking lot feels more promising than any five-star reservation.
Thatâs the space "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" has lived in for years. Not polished or precious, just places rooted in something real, where the menu tells a story before the server even reaches the table.
I know that pull well. My dad is a longtime fan, and on a trip to Boulder, Colorado, he made it a mission to eat at Triple D spots. At one stop, he even snapped a photo with the owners, as if they were true celebrities.

Small Town Diners Worth the Detour (Real Spots, Real Flavor)The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint â Ocean Springs, MississippiThe Shed BBQ & Blues Joint is less of a restaurant and more of a living, breathing roadside experience. Built from salvaged materials and covered in what can only be described as organized chaos, itâs known for slow-smoked ribs and a fiercely loyal local following. Guy called the ribs âas tender as you can get.â
After you eat, the town invites you to linger. Walk through the live oaks downtown or head toward the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Itâs the kind of place where one meal quietly turns into a full afternoon.

Vincentown Diner â Vincentown, New JerseyVincentown Diner is exactly that kind of place. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, it built its reputation on unapologetically large comfort food, from stacked meatloaf to its now-famous apple pieFrench toast. The diner leans into local ingredients and a farm-to-table approach, which gives even its heaviest meals a sense of intention. When Guy Fierivisited, he summed it up mid-bite, calling it âtenderâ and âjuicy,â before admitting, âI canât stop eating it.â
Iâve always thought diners like this double as town squares. Sit long enough and you start to understand the place through its regulars. If you have time, nearby trails and farmland offer a quiet counterbalance to the meal.
Junkyard Extreme Burgers and Brats â Lancaster, WyomingThis unincorporated farming community is about as small as it gets. Roughly 30 people call it home, according to owner Craig, and the town itself is tied together by family. That restaurant is Junkyard Extreme Burgers and Brats, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Built from a race trailer with a shed attached, it doesnât try to be anything other than what it is.
The burgers here are not subtle. One customer laughs that the signature burger is âbigger than her head,â while another calls it âan explosion of taste.â Itâs messy, oversized, and completely unapologetic.
The drive-thru is less of a lane and more of a moment. Customers pull up in pickup trucks, sure, but also on horses, in tractors, and even in combines during harvest season.
Guy Fieri, who has seen just about everything on the road, summed it up best:
âWeâve seen some crazy stuff on Triple D, but this is up there.â

Duluth Grill â Duluth, MinnesotaDuluth Grill has been spotlighted for its commitment to scratch cooking and locally sourced ingredients, including produce grown in its own on-site garden. When Guy Fieri stopped in, he kept it simple, calling the pie âpretty dynamite,â a reaction that feels right for a place that quietly exceeds expectations.
Overlooking Lake Superior, Duluth carries a kind of rugged calm, and the food reflects that. Think grass-fed meatloaf, house-made pies, and dishes that feel thoughtful without trying too hard. Itâs the kind of place where breakfast turns into a slow morning, and a slow morning turns into a day you didnât plan but are glad you had.
Lotus Cafe â Jackson Hole, WyomingJackson Hole has a way of feeling both rugged and refined at the same time. Itâs a place where mornings start with mountain air and end with something unexpectedly thoughtful on your plate. At Lotus Cafe, Chef Amy Young leans fully into that balance. The menu is built around organic ingredients, from responsibly sourced meats to fresh vegetables, creating dishes that feel clean without sacrificing flavor.
One customer in the episode puts it simply when she said, âI think Amy has done a really unique thing here.â
Another diner describes it as âpart of the Jackson Hole experience,â which feels accurate in a place where wellness and wilderness coexist.
Even Guy Fieri summed it up in his own way by saying, âNext time youâre in Jackson Hole, make sure you come to Lotus Cafe. This girl is off the hook.â
Beyond the meal, Jackson Hole gives you plenty of reasons to stay. You can explore Grand Teton National Park, take in sweeping mountain views, or simply walk through town and feel that blend of old Western roots and modern energy.

How to Build Your Own Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Style Road TripStart with one place that catches your attention, perhaps somewhere you have read about or heard recommended, and then leave plenty of room in your plans for discovery. Often, the most memorable meals happen in the unplanned stops, in the gaps between destinations, rather than at the locations you expected.
Pay attention to small signs that a restaurant is worth visiting. Give yourself permission to linger longer than you initially intended. Some restaurants are not meant to be rushed through, and they are meant to be experienced slowly, one bite at a time, allowing both the food and the atmosphere to leave a lasting impression.
Award-Winning Author Reveals Intriguing and Immersive New Novel Is Not an April Fools Prank â And Itâs Available for Preorder!
April 1 is the day for pranks, and many authors, publications, businesses, and individuals love to get involved. So, when Freida McFadden shared that she was releasing a new thriller that sounded completely different from the style she is used to writing, many fans erred on the side of caution.
Was this some sort of prank? If they pre-ordered the new novel, The Dinner Party, and it turned out to be a prank, would they get their money back? Some decided to take a leap, but others reached out to the award-winning author to find out the truth, and she graciously responded.
âThe Dinner Partyâ Is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure BookMcFadden released the news that she had a new novel coming out. While that wouldnât usually be a cause for concern, The Dinner Party is different. Itâs a choose-your-own-adventure book (or âpick your poisonâ as itâs also been referred to), allowing readers to pick the path that they would prefer to take. The best thing about these books is that you can read them multiple times and end up with a different plot and ending.
Considering The Housemaid author usually writes traditional psychological thrillers with wild twists, it was only natural that fans didnât quite jump into pre-order. After all, this was announced on April 1, 2026, and it just seems too wild to be true.
Freida McFadden Settled Her Fans MindsOne of the great things about McFadden is that she is responsive and active on social media. Not only does she hang out in a couple of psychological thriller groups on Facebook, but she is also active in a group that is all for Freida McFadden fans.Â
After getting questions from many, she took to one of the groups to share that The Dinner Party is, in fact, a real book. The pre-order link will lead to getting the release, and it will be in paperback and eBook format first. The best thing about Kindle reading is that the links to the chapters will be clickable, making it easy to jump to the story.
While most of her novels are released on Audible, thatâs not going to happen with The Dinner Party just yet. You can probably imagine the trouble jumping from chapter to chapter while listening! There will be an audiobook version eventually. McFadden shared that Dreamscape says they've done it before, and Megan Tusing and Will Damron will narrate.
The Dinner Party will be released on April 4, 2026 in paperback and on Kindle. Now is the time to head to Amazon to get your pre-order, ready to pick your poison on this very real book adventure.
