Watch 'America's Got Talent' Judges Get Blown Away by 'Insane' Tumbling Act That Has Been 67 Years in the Making
America’s Got Talent is back tonight with new auditions for Season 21 of the NBC talent competition with the surprising addition of 92-year-old Jesse White and his tumbling team from Chicago, which he has been coaching for 67 years.
“We are here to show you how high we can fly without any roofs,” the team told judge Simon Cowell prior to performing.
“This has been the most exciting thing I’ve seen today,” Sofia Vergara told the tumblers. “You guys literally fly. You know how to fly. “
“You just went bang, bang, bang, pop, pop, jump,” Mel B added. “It was constant. It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you, guys.”
Howie Mandel chimed in, “You guys kept getting higher and going further and longer and more extreme than I could ever imagine. You are the epitome of what AGT is all about. Thank you for being here.”

Simon wrapped it up by saying, “It was sensational. You are following an act with lasers and pyrotechnics, and this is all about you as a group, as individuals, being great, putting the hours in. It really, really paid off."
Backstage, host Terry Crews was wishing he had a third Golden Buzzer, but he had already used his two for the season.
Of course, there was no doubt that the Jesse White Tumbling Team received four yeses. Now it just has to make the Judges Cuts to get to the Live Shows and America's votes.
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Streams next day on Peacock.

’70s Metal Band Announces First-Ever Move 58 Years After Forming
Black Sabbath has announced its first-ever official book, marking a major milestone nearly 58 years after the pioneering heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1968.
The band revealed the project through Instagram, confirming that The Masters of Reality – Why Black Sabbath Matter will arrive in October 2026 through Rufus Publications.
The 500-page book documents Black Sabbath's journey from its beginnings in the late 1960s to the band's final performance, Back To The Beginning, which took place in Birmingham in July 2025.
Created by renowned rock photographer Ross Halfin in direct collaboration with the band, the book features hundreds of rare photographs, memorabilia and archival items, many of which are being published for the first time.

The project focuses on Black Sabbath's classic lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. It also includes essays from writers Geoff Barton and Dave Ling, who conducted interviews with all four members specifically for the publication.

"Black Sabbath & Rufus Publications are pleased to announce the publication of the first ever Official Black Sabbath book. Documenting the band’s extensive history from the late 1960s to the final show, Back To The Beginning in July 2025."
The upcoming release follows the band's history from its earliest days in Birmingham through the farewell Back To The Beginning concert, which served as the final performance for the original lineup.
Production on the book began two years ago and was originally expected to be announced shortly after the 2025 farewell show. However, plans changed following the death of Ozzy Osbourne later that month.
According to the announcement, Osbourne personally signed book plates for the project months before the band's final concert.
The Masters of Reality – Why Black Sabbath Matter will be available in three editions when it ships in October 2026.
According to Metal Insider, the Super Deluxe Signed Metal Edition is limited to 200 numbered copies and includes a hand-tooled brushed metal cover, a recycled leather clamshell case, two exclusive giclée prints and a bookplate signed by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward.
The Super Deluxe Signed Edition is limited to 300 numbered copies and includes a black recycled leather cover, a clamshell case, an exclusive giclée print and a signed bookplate from all four original members.
A Standard Edition will also be released with a printed foil cover housed inside a cloth slipcase.
The book represents a first for Black Sabbath, a band widely credited with helping create heavy metal and influencing generations of artists across rock and metal music.
By releasing an official publication for the first time in the band's history, Black Sabbath is opening its archives to fans with photographs, memorabilia and interviews spanning almost six decades.

1989 One-Hit Wonder Turned a Silly Dance Into a Pop Culture Moment
"Boom boom acka-lacka-lacka boom …" It was the late '80s, and suddenly people across the U.S. were stomping around like dinosaurs at school dances, weddings, and parties. That's because the quirky song "Walk the Dinosaur" by Was (Not Was) had become one of the most memorable pop hits (and dance crazes) of the late '80s.
Was (Not Was) were no typical pop band. Formed in Detroit in 1979 by David Weiss and Don Fagenson — soon to be known as David Was and Don Was — the group spent years making offbeat funk, rock, and experimental music before unexpectedly breaking into the mainstream with "Walk the Dinosaur."
The dance-pop and funk track gained massive popularity and played in heavy rotation on radio stations and MTV, which made the song impossible to escape. The earworm chant, playful lyrics, and an easy-to-copy dinosaur dance, thanks to the video's cavewomen and their choreographed moves, made it impossible to forget.

In discussing the song's trajectory, Randy Jacobs, the band's guitarist and one of the song's writers summed it up to the Detroit Metro Times like this, “The song’s about nuclear Armageddon. It became a dance because of the video. They connected it with the girls in the little Pebbles and Bam Bam outfits. All the sudden it became, like, ‘do the mashed potato’ or ‘the twist.’”
That's right. The catchy hit that inspired a goofy dance craze actually began as a clever commentary on nuclear anxiety.
Although the song was released on their 1987 album What Up, Dog?, it didn't become a major success in the U.S. for another couple of years. "Walk the Dinosaur" reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1989, making it the band's biggest hit and only Top 10 success in the U.S. The What Up, Dog? album sold around a million copies worldwide.
Although the song was often dismissed as a novelty hit, its nostalgic appeal has endured. It still pops up at sporting events, parties, and on retro playlists. "Walk the Dinosaur" has more than 12 million streams on Spotify and has found new life on TikTok, where users reminisce about it and continue putting their own spin on the iconic dinosaur dance.

♬ Walk The Dinosaur - Was (Not Was)While many late-'80s dance crazes faded quickly, "Walk the Dinosaur" endured because it combined a catchy hook, an easy dance, and a wink of satire. Decades later, hearing "Boom boom acka-lacka-lacka boom …" is enough to get people instinctively "walking the dinosaur."

Barry Keoghan Says 'The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event' Will Be 'Iconic' Barry KeoghanSam Mendes is directing the four 2028 movies. The Oscar winner was awarded for Best Director with American Beauty. Mendes, 60, also directed Spectre, Skyfall, 1917, and Empire of Light.
"I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies," Mendes said, according to The Beatles website.
Keoghan said the movies are "gonna be iconic" and "part of history," according to Variety. The actor told the outlet in May that his work wasn't over. "We’re still going strong… it’s four movies at the end of the day!" he said.
The actor was nominated for an Oscar in 2023 for The Banshees of Inisherin. He was also in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Saltburn, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Mendes explained why the story is in four movies. "I had been trying to do a film for years, but I finally gave up," he said, according to Deadline. The "story was too big for one film" he claimed.
The movies are expected to be released in theaters in April 2028. It's unknown how the movies will be rolled out.

1974 Hit, Recorded While the Band Was Inebriated, Is Still a Soft Rock Anthem
Throughout the 1970s, fans of soft rock were treated to the release of several hits fromthe Eagles, with the most famous ones being "Hotel California," "Take It Easy," and "Life in the Fast Lane." Some enthusiasts of the band may not know that the creation of their beloved song, "On the Border," off the 1974 album also titled On the Border, happened while the Eagles opted to not be in the clearest of headspaces.
According to Far Out magazine, late frontman of the Eagles, Glenn Frey, shared some insight into the making of "On the Border," during an interview for Tim Morse's 1998 book, Classic Rock Stories: The Stories Behind the Greatest Songs of All Time.
“We decided to get pretty liberated on gin and tonics in order to do that little Temptations bit in the break," said Frey, who died in 2016 at the age of 67. "We had to be totally uninhibited where we didn’t feel like we were going to sing the blues or anything, but like we were white, stoned punks, drunk out of our minds. We were just gonna go out there and have a good time."
Don Felder Began Recording With the Eagles During the Making of 'On the Border'Ultimate Classic Rockreported that guitarist Don Felder began recording for the band during the production of On the Border, which came out two years after the first Eagles' album. The publication reported that Frey shared that the band had approached Felder, who was close to original Eagles member Bernie Leadon since they were teenagers, to perform on the album's ninth track, "Good Day in Hell," in a 1974 interview with Crawdaddy. In the interview, Frey compared Felder to late Allman Brothers Band member Duane Allman, who died in 1971 when he was 24.
"I've been a Don Felder fan for about a year-and-a-half. Ever since I heard him playing in a dressing room in Boston one night. I saw him at a concert in L.A. and asked if he'd come down and put some slide on 'Good Day in Hell,' but with every take he just blew us all away. If he isn't Duane Allman reincarnate, I don't know who the f--k is," said Frey during the 1974 interview.
In addition, Frey suggested he felt more at ease performing in front of an audience with Felder by his side on stage.
"I feel better than ever since he's joined. It's much fuller onstage now," said Frey to Crawdaddy.
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Felder, who hasn't been a member of the Eagles since 2001, and Frey didn't remain close during their musical partnership.
2006 Sitcom Averaged 10 Jokes a Minute, Named Greatest Ever
While traditional television sitcoms like Friends, Cheers, and Frasier were taped in front of a live audience and featured a three-camera format, TV comedies of the 2000s moved toward a single-camera style that was filmed more like a movie than a play. That evolution allowed for more jokes per scene, elevated sight gags, and layered background humor, paving the way for sidesplitting comedies like The Office, Veep, and Modern Family. A new ranking names the best sitcom of all time, revealing an iconic NBC comedy that averaged an astonishing 10 jokes per minute.
A new ranking by TVLine names 30 Rock the best sitcom ever made. Created by Tina Feyand loosely based on her experiences as head writer on Saturday Night Live, the NBC comedy became known for its rapid-fire jokes, wacky yet relatable characters, and razor-sharp satire that lovingly skewered the television industry. Besting iconic TV comedies like All in the Family and this writer's personal favorite, Abbott Elementary, 30 Rock stands apart for its relentless commitment to packing every episode with jokes, hilariously unforgettable characters, and "inside baseball" observational humor that often blurred the line between fiction and Fey's real-life experiences.
TVLine's Blaise Santi writes:
“Nowadays, many comedy series center on show business in Hollywood, lampooning stars playing themselves and typical television tropes, whether it be Hacks, The Studio, or Wonder Man, but 30 Rock approaches it with a level of absurdism and satire that has yet to be topped. If you're a fan of TV sitcoms, then chances are 30 Rock is a show that's designed to make you laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of it all, which is, of course, why we love it."
Fans and critics agree. 30 Rock ran for seven seasons and won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards. Still, in the highly competitive conversation surrounding the greatest sitcoms of all time, some readers argued that any list without Cheers in the top three misses the mark. Others questioned why Barney Miller, Married... with Children, The Odd Couple, and 3rd Rock from the Sun were left off the ranking.
They're all worthy choices and hilarious in their own right. But if the goal is maximum laughs per minute, 30 Rock is difficult to beat.
Why 30 Rock Remains So Influential TodayAlthough 30 Rock concluded in 2013, its impact on television comedy continues to grow. Writers, comedians, and television creators still cite the show as a benchmark for joke writing and comedic pacing, while streaming has introduced the series to an entirely new generation of viewers.
Nearly 20 years after its premiere, 30 Rock remains one of the rare sitcoms that feels as fresh, inventive, and endlessly quotable as it did when it first aired. Its relentless pace, unforgettable ensemble, and fearless approach to comedy continue to set the standard for what a great sitcom can be, making it easy to understand why many critics now consider it the greatest sitcom of all time.
1963 No. 1 Duet, Which Gave a ’70s Rock Band Its Name, Became an Era-Defining Classic
“Deep Purple” is a legendary romantic duet with a colorful history.
Immortalized by brother-sister duo Nino Tempo and April Stevens in 1963, the track dates back to the 1930s, when bandleaders like Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, and PaulWhiteman recorded their own renditions of the classic. In 1963, Tempo and Stevens breathed new life into the standard with a contemporary, rock-influenced pop sound, introducing the song to an entirely new generation.
“Nino Tempo and April Stevens … helped bring about the 1960s rock ’n’ roll revolution by adapting a stale old chestnut, ‘Deep Purple,’ into a shimmering banger,” Grunge recently wrote about the song, declaring it an era-defining duet. “For their 1963 take on the song about the intoxicating effects of memory, Tempo and Stevens threw in some piano and harmonica with the 1930s lyrics to make a bouncy and engrossing rock song.”
Released in September 1963, “Deep Purple” was the title track from Tempo and Stevens’ debut studio album, released by Atlantic Records. It famously features Tempo singing falsetto with Stevens performing spoken-word overlays. The session musicians on the song include Glen Campbell and Billy Strange on guitar, and Earl Palmer on drums, with JimmieHaskell handling arrangements.
Recorded by the siblings in 14 minutes and just two takes, the song was originally written by composer Peter De Rose in 1933, before lyricist Mitchell Parish added words five years later. The lyrics, which sing of “deep purple” and “mist of memory,” evoke a dreamy twilight in which memories of the past linger.
When a deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to twinkle in the night
in the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh
According to Songfacts, the romantic ballad was a favorite of legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore’s grandmother, and it inspired him and his British heavy metal band to adopt the song's title as their name.
“We were slightly embarrassed about the name until we saw it in the charts,” Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper once told Mojo magazine.
Fin Costello / Getty Images
That chart history he spoke of is staggering.
In 1939, the song was a No. 1 hit for Larry Clinton and His Orchestra. During the Mid-Century and Rat Pack eras of entertainment, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and SammyDavis Jr. all covered the song. In the rock era, the song charted courtesy of Billy Ward & His Dominoes, and later found more success with another sibling duo, Donny & Marie Osmond, sending it to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.
But Tempo and Stevens’ version remains the biggest hit. Their recording even earned a Grammy Award for Best Rock & Roll Recording (now known as Best Contemporary/Rock Song), making the singing duo one of the first sibling acts to win in the category.
Said Grunge, “As far as we’re concerned, [it ’s one of the greatest duets] that best represent the state of ’60s pop culture, inspiring those that followed in the decades to come.”

Is It Really Rude To Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something? An Etiquette Expert Weighs In
Admittedly, whenever I compliment something a friend is wearing, my mind wonders how much they spent on it. And that doesn't only go for wearable items like clothes, shoes and jewelry—I'm always curious to know what people spend on things like furniture, cars, concert tickets, workout classes, hair appointments, plane tickets and even their rent. And I'm often tempted to ask.
But, thanks to common sense and social decency, I usually keep those questions to myself. That said, is it really rude to ask how much someone paid for something?
To get a nuanced answer, I reached out to an expert: Maryanne Parker, founder and executive director of etiquette company Manor of Manners and author of multiple books on etiquette. And according to Parker, there's one key thing to consider before you ask someone a question such as "how much did that cost?"
"In the world of etiquette, there is one important rule that should never be overlooked: learn to read the room," she tells Parade. "This simple observation can shape the course of a conversation—either leading to a meaningful exchange or, on the other hand, making people feel uncomfortable."
Curious to hear more of Parker's perspective regarding asking people what things cost? Keep reading for her insights.
Related: Etiquette Experts Say These 12 Common Habits Make You Look Rude (Without Realizing It)
Is It Rude To Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something?According to Parker, the answer to this question varies depending on a number of factors, which will be discussed below. But in general, yes, it can be rude to ask how much something cost.
"In many situations, asking someone the price of an item may be perceived as intrusive, offensive or even patronizing," Parker tells Parade.
But at the same time, "asking about cost is usually not inherently rude. Whether it is appropriate depends much more on context, relationship, purpose and how the question is asked than on the topic itself," per Parker. That's because in some circumstances, the question "can be genuine, thoughtful and practical. The difference lies in the context, the relationship between the people involved, and the intent behind the question."
On What Occasions Is It Appropriate To Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something? It's all about context. If you have a legitimate reason for wanting to know the cost of something and you ask in a respectful way, you can probably get away with broaching the topic. For instance, if you're asking for practical reasons—like if you're considering buying a similar product or service—it's usually appropriate to ask.
The same applies in regards to asking people what they charge clients, such as asking a travel agent the cost of a vacation or asking a contractor the cost of a home renovation, Parker explains.
Who you're speaking with also makes a differenceThe relationship between you and the other person is also a major factor when considering asking what something cost. If discussing money with each other is normal, go right ahead and ask.
"If we are close enough, I may feel comfortable asking a wide range of questions," Parker says, regardless of if the person is a relative, friend or colleague.
"People who know us and have interacted with us over time generally understand how far they can go because an established rapport already exists," she explains. "Some people are naturally very direct and have fewer personal boundaries, while others are more reserved, classy, polite and refined in the way they communicate. Recognizing and respecting those differences is an important part of navigating conversations appropriately."
5 Ways to Politely Ask How Much Someone Paid for SomethingParker notes that social norms around discussing finances vary across cultures. But in general, here are a few exact phrases she suggests using:
- "Would you mind if I asked how much it was? I am looking for something similar."
- "I really like this! I'm thinking about getting something similar for my son. Would you mind telling me where you got it and about how much it cost?"
- "This is really nice. If you don't mind me asking, what price range is it in?"
- "I'm considering buying one myself. Would you be comfortable sharing what you paid for it?"
- "This looks fantastic! I love it, but I'm not sure whether it's within my budget. Was it fairly expensive?"
And no matter how you phrase your question, always make sure to ask it "without implying approval, disapproval, envy or judgment," advises Parker.
What To Do if Someone Won't Tell You What Something CostIf you ask someone what something cost and they don't immediately answer, Parker says "it's generally best not to press the issue." Just respond with something like, "No worries— thanks for letting me know where you got it" (if they did tell you where they got it).
"That approach respects their privacy while still giving them an opportunity to share if they're comfortable," Parker explains. "In many cases, if someone doesn't mind discussing the price, they'll tell you without hesitation. If they prefer not to, gracefully moving on helps keep the conversation comfortable for everyone."

Final TakeawaysUltimately, whether or not it's rude to ask how much someone paid for something—as well as how you phrase the question—will come down to your gut instinct.
"From my personal experience, I have learned to be mindful of where I am, whom I ask and how I ask," Parker tells Parade. "It is not always the question itself that matters, but the way it is asked. Our tone, our curiosity and our intentions all play an important role in how our message is received and the responses we receive."

Disneyland Nearly Suffers Another Accident on 'Princess and the Frog' Themed Water Ride
Just weeks after a child exited a log while riding Disneyland’s Tiana’s Baryou Adventure, a cast member monitoring the attraction noticed a child leave the log. TMZ reports the cast member immediately initiated an emergency ride stop. The incident took place over the Fourth of July holiday weekend on Saturday, July 4. The ride was temporarily shut down in the aftermath.
Following the incident, the attraction was inspected the following morning by officials with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. It was approved to be re-opened.
Last month, a 13-year-old exited a log on the ride, causing a fall down the 50-foot waterfall. The guest was transported to a local hospital. Miraculously, he did not suffer any serious injuries and was later released. The terrifying ordeal was caught on camera phone video and shared with the media.
Globe Magazine reports a guest shared a video on Instagram on June 29 of people appearing to try and exit the log on the same ride while in motion. In the video, a cast member can be overheard warning the rider, “Remain right where you are.” In the caption of the Instagram user’s reel post, they wrote, “The Disneyland version of this ride doesn’t have lap restraints like its counterpart in Florida and riders sit in a single row. We were stuck for over 30 minutes after the party in front exited their ride vehicle!”
Tiana's Bayou Adventure officially replaced the iconic Splash mountain. It opened at Disneyland in November 2024. Along the interactive ride, guests join Princess Tiana and Louis the alligator on a search for musicians to play a Mardi Gras party before the big 50ft drop.
Another iteration of the ride officially opened to the public at Walt Disney World in Florida in June 2024. When riders exit, they enter a general store filled with merch they can purchase.
1976 Rock Ballad, Written After a Key Band Member's Departure, Remains a Classic 50 Years Later
Many know the Rolling Stones for their rocker sound that defined an era, but the band has more than enough emotional ballads that showed a softer side to them, like "Fool to Cry," which was released during a pivotal time of their career.
Mick Jagger,Keith Richards, and the rest of the band were stunned when Mick Taylor announced he was leaving the band after having joined in 1969 as lead guitarist. He released a press statement in December 1974 just as the Rolling Stones were working on their 13th album, Black and Blue.
Taylor said in his statement that his time with the band was the "most inspiring" and had nothing but admiration for his bandmates. After almost six years, it was time for him to move on. According to UDiscoverMusic, Jagger had no idea he planned to leave when they met weeks prior, and “He obviously has a lot of troubles – personal problems – but they’re nothing to do with us. I don’t even know the true nature of them.”
With no lead guitarist, Richards insisted their music would feel incomplete and needed a replacement. As a result, Black and Blue became an experimental opportunity for the band to find someone new and release tracks that differed from what fans knew them for. One track was a hit rock ballad titled "Fool to Cry" written by Jagger and Richards.
Looking for a new guitarist led Wayne Perkins to play the part on the track alongside Richards. The track was seen by critics and fans as a bit off the beaten path for the Stones, with the ballad focused on a narrator feeling saddened by the world, with his daughter, friends, and lover trying to lift his spirits.
According to American Songwriter, Jagger revealed the inspiration dating “from the period when I had a young child, my daughter Jade, around a lot, calling me ‘daddy’ and all that. It’s another of our heartmelting ballads, a bit long and waffly at the end maybe, but I like it.”
While Jagger developed its backstory and lyrics, he wasn't convinced it was worth being released as a single and was told otherwise. Despite its mixed response, "Fool to Cry" ranked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and in multiple Top 10 lists across the world. It became a classic thanks to Jagger's honeyed falsetto, which Richards said he was "glad somebody in the band could sing" it.
“I got a pretty good falsetto myself. But when you got a singer and he can hit those notes, baby go for it. And Mick was always fascinated with the falsetto soul singers like Aaron Neville. That’s crafty stuff, you know what I mean?" he explained.
The track was later recorded by Ween for an Uma Thurman film that was later rejected for another one of their tracks. Lena Dunhamcommissioned Tegan and Sara to record the track for HBO's Golden Globe-winning show Girls.

’90s Music Icon’s Nostalgia-Fueled Single Named One of 2026’s Best Songs So Far
From Christian music pioneer to crossover pop superstar, Amy Grant became one of the defining voices of the late ’80s and ’90s, earning six Grammy Awards and becoming the first Christian artist to achieve major mainstream pop success. Now, more than three decades later, the “Baby Baby” singer is making her mark on a new era.
In a roundup of the best songs of the year so far, NPR recognized Grant’s latest project,The Me That Remains—specifically the album’s opening track, “The 6th of January (Yasgur’s Farm)”—calling it one of the year’s best.
@amygrantmusicMaybe there is hope to come together and find the way forward through the unrest. I believe in that hope. I hope this song brings you some too. Out everywhere now.
♬ original sound - Amy GrantReleased on Jan. 6, the song uses the anniversary of the Capitol riot as a starting point for a broader reflection on division and the search for unity.
“Behind every Amy Grant song, there’s a heartfelt story that complicates a question … usually one about how we treat one another while we still breathe on this Earth,” the outlet wrote. “In a warm arrangement that foregrounds Grant’s quietly resilient voice, she nods lyrically to Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, and Marvin Gaye, at first seeming to contrast the lost idealism of the ’60s with the violence of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.”

The song was written by Nashville songwriter Sandy Emory Lawrence, a longtime friend of Grant’s. And it came to her as she was leaving for a West Coast tour.
“My suitcase is in the front hall, and I opened the door, and there was Sandy holding a strumstick,” Grant told USA Today. “She wanted to play a song for me and I said, ‘I’m leaving for the airport, but let’s go to the bedroom, and I can film it on my phone.' I was so intrigued by the strumstick and the song that when I came back (from the tour), I asked her if I could record it.”
The folk-pop track was released as a single and featured on her latest album, The Me That Remains. With its date-driven imagery tied to Woodstock, it prompts reflection on cultural unrest.
“Grant, here treating Sandy Emory Lawrence’s songwriting with tenderness, doesn't merely sing a protest song, but asks us to participate,” NPR added. “Each line is loaded with the history of a people who have ‘lost [their] way.’ A masterclass in what it means to be—and how we can be—American.”
View this post on InstagramThe Me That Remains marks Grant’s first collection of original songs in 13 years and a reflective return to the songwriting roots that helped define her decades-long career. The track uses nostalgia as a framework for asking questions about modern division and how to sit with societal tension.
“We are all trying to find our way,” Grant shared on Instagram. “This song begins my story of sitting in unrest and growing throughout. It's not just the beginning of the stories of 'me' but how we can become a 'we.'”
“Maybe there is hope to come together and find the way forward through the unrest," she added on TikTok. "I believe in that hope. I hope this song brings you some, too."

'Elf' Star Reveals the 'Random' Reason She Went Blonde for the 2003 Classic
Zooey Deschanel's golden hair in Elf has been part of the Christmas classic's charm for more than 20 years. It turns out it was never the plan.
Appearing on the Zach Sang Show podcast on Monday, July 6, the 46-year-old actress explained that her blonde look in the 2003 film came from a completely different project, one that never saw the light of day.
Before she landed Elf, Deschanel did a screen test for a movie about a pop star in the vein of Britney Spears. She said producers thought she did not look the part, so they went all in on a makeover.
"They dyed my hair blonde and they put these extensions in, they gave me a tan, a whole thing," Deschanel recalled. The pop star movie fell apart. The hair color stuck around.
'You Need to Look How You Looked in the Audition'The Elf audition came soon after, while she was still blonde. Because dyeing her dark brown hair had been "a long process," she decided to leave it. Once she got the part, she asked if she could go back to brown.
The answer was no. "You need to look how you looked in the audition," she was told. And so Jovie, the Gimbels department store worker who catches Buddy's eye, stayed blonde.
"It was really random," Deschanel said.
A Role That Almost Went to Someone ElseThe hair story is one more twist in Deschanel's winding path to the film. She has said the role of Jovie was first offered to Katie Holmes, who exited over a scheduling conflict before Deschanel stepped in opposite Will Ferrell's Buddy, blonde hair and all.
