In Daphne's defense, Dachshunds were originally bred as hunting dogs, so the instinct to chase and retrieve is part of their DNA. Along with their high energy and love of playtime, this is a breed known for patience and dedication to the job. In Daphne's case, the job is fetch, and she deserves a raise.

There are pets you call “old,” and then there is this tiny white ferret who has reached a level of elderly that feels almost mythical. Five years is a long time to wonder what happened to a beloved pet. For one Los Angeles dog mom, that question finally got an answer—and the ending is almost hard to believe.

Back in 2018, Michelle Bluestone adopted a schnauzer mix named Lola, and the two quickly became inseparable. For three years, they were constant companions, until one day in 2021, Lola slipped through a backyard fence and vanished. It’s every pet parent’s worst nightmare. 

Bluestone spent months searching for her dog. She put up flyers and posted messages on local Facebook pages, asking strangers and fellow pet parents to "please help me find my baby."

She held onto hope that Lola’s microchip would eventually lead to a phone call. But as time passed with no sightings, no updates and no leads, that hope slowly faded. Eventually, she was forced to accept that she likely would never see Lola again.

In the years that followed, life kept moving. According to KTLA 5 and her own Facebook updates, Bluestone got married, started a new job, moved to another part of L.A., continued her education and even adopted another dog.

Then, in February 2026, everything changed. A dog had been found on the side of the road in Los Angeles, alone but alive. After being brought to a police station and transferred to a local animal shelter, staff scanned the dog’s microchip.

It was Lola. After five years, the call Bluestone had once waited for finally came.

"I was in such shock and couldn't even believe it," Bluestone said in a KTLA 5 news clip. 

When Bluestone arrived at the shelter, the reunion was exactly what you’d expect after years apart—emotional, overwhelming and unforgettable.

Wrapped in a blanket, Lola was brought out to see her. Bluestone covered her mouth, visibly emotional, as the reality of the moment hit. Against all odds, they had found their way back to each other.

Lola, now 11 years old, did need some medical care after being found, including treatment for overgrown nails and the removal of 11 rotted teeth. But overall, she was in surprisingly good condition.

Since then, she’s been recovering and adjusting to her new life, getting to know the family that grew while she was gone.

Stories like this are rare, but they’re a powerful reminder of why microchipping—and keeping the microchip information up to date—is so important. Because sometimes, even after years apart, happy endings are still possible.

Isabel Klee is an animal advocate who has fostered more than 30 dogs, many of them with significant physical or emotional challenges. Her current foster, a small, shaggy, light-brown pup named Marmie, is slowly starting to let her guard down after experiencing major trauma.

However, Marmie isn’t exactly a fan of men, which makes certain interactions a bit tricky, especially when it comes to Klee’s fiancé, Jacob.

In a YouTube Short posted by @IsabelKlee, Jacob walks into the room and Marmie immediately starts barking at him, clearly sending a “back up and leave me alone” message.

Given her past, it’s not surprising, and it has nothing to do with Jacob himself. Marmie is still decompressing from a difficult background, and even calm, well-meaning interactions can feel overwhelming at first.

But instead of forcing the interaction, Jacob takes a different approach. He pulls out a piece of cheese.

The reaction is instant. Marmie pauses mid-bark. Her focus shifts. Suddenly, the “scary man” is no longer the main event—the cheese is.

A recent Reddit post shared exactly this milestone. A cat who once lived outside, entirely untamed, finally decided the best place to sleep was right against their canine sibling.

In the Reddit post, we see a picture of the two animals cuddling together. The dog is calmly snuggled with the cat, and while the cat looks like it's still showing some signs of being cautious, there's no denying they are now cuddled up together.

Gibbs, who appears to be a Dachshund mix, came to the rescue four years ago with serious health issues.

"When he arrived at Old Souls Animal Rescue, Gibbs was in rough shape," the onscreen text in the TikTok from @oldsoulsanimalres explained, with close-ups of the canine's injured back legs. "The first vet we took him to recommended euthanasia. But something told us Gibbs still had so much life left to live."

The rescue staff got a second opinion from another vet, which led to surgically removing the severely damaged areas of Gibbs' back legs.

"A couple of amputations later and Gibbs has fresh new wheels to zoom around in," the story continued as clips of the canine cutie running with his fellow four-legged residents revealed how Gibbs is fully back in action.

The determined dog received a boatload of toys and made lots of human and furry friends at Old Souls. Gibbs was even featured in the rescue's coloring book and walked the runway at their fashion show.

The video highlighted how Gibbs thrived post-op, racing around in his wheelchair and socializing with everyone he met. After his incredible journey at the rescue, Gibbs finally got his forever home.

"More than four years after we were told to put him down, Gibbs has been officially adopted," the text shared, with scenes of the pooch with his new family.

Gibbs' resilience and dedication, along with the love and commitment of the rescue team, finally led to what he always wanted.

The rest of him is a confusing mix of Tabby fur and… nothing. Specifically, nothing on his lower half. But this employee was caught stealing on the job. The video shows the dog happily carrying glasses around the shop like he is doing an amazing job. In his mind, he is.

Then you realize he’s not stocking shelves. He’s stealing everything he can carry.

At first glance, he seems helpful.

He walks around the shop confidently carrying items like he has a job to do. Customers smile. It feels charming. Almost official. He looks like he works there, but he absolutely does not.
