Tiny Puppy Trapped in Drain Gets Heartwarming Last-Minute Rescue
The sound was easy to miss. Faint, uneven, almost lost beneath the noise of water and distant traffic. But someone stopped long enough to listen, and that’s what made all the difference.
Thanks to a call to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), a young puppy has been given a second chance at life after getting trapped in a stormwater drain pipe in Newcastle, South Africa.
According to reports, Zinhle Mdlalose called the local Newcastle SPCA for assistance. After hearing about the situation, the SPCA then contacted the Newcastle Protection Services for its help because of the risks involved with the rescue and getting access to the drain. The incredible rescue was caught on video and posted to YouTube.
How the SPCA Saved the PuppyWhen rescuers arrived, the situation was already urgent. The puppy was stuck below ground level, with limited space to move and no clear way out.
Stormwater drains aren’t just confined spaces. They can flood quickly, especially if conditions change. What looks manageable one moment can turn dangerous the next.
As we can see in the video, rescuers initially tried to save the puppy from above the drain, but it was too deep for them to come down. They tried sending a rope for the puppy to get attached to, but that didn’t help either.
They had to come up with a different plan. The fire department helped a woman get into the drain from the other side. She crawled into the tunnel and came outside with the puppy. The community cheered her on, happy that the dog was safe and secure.

Why Organizations That Help Animals MatterRescues like this don’t happen by accident. They rely on trained people, proper equipment and organizations that are ready to respond when something goes wrong.
Groups like the SPCA exist for exactly these moments. They handle situations most people aren’t equipped for, from trapped animals to cases of neglect and abandonment. Without them, many of these stories would end differently.
Support doesn’t always have to be dramatic. Donations, volunteering or even just spreading awareness can help keep these organizations running.
The reality is simple: when an animal is in trouble, time matters, and having the right people ready to act can mean the difference between life and loss.
The Moment That Stays With YouIf you’ve ever helped an animal, even in a small way, you know the feeling. The relief you feel realizing that the animal that was in danger is now safe. That feeling stays with you.
For this puppy, that moment also marked the start of something new. More than a survival. A second chance. And for everyone who played a role in the rescue, it’s a reminder of why these efforts matter.

See the Rare Moment a Golden Retriever Realizes a Big Ball Is Actually Life-Changing
For most golden retriever parents, life is a never-ending cycle of "throw the ball, get the ball," and it seems like the cycle never ends.
However, that is not the case with every dog. For one golden retriever posted on Reddit, the classic ball never held much appeal. She lived a perfectly happy life without the obsession. But, all that changed when her parents brought home a new toy ball that was roughly the size of a giant beach ball.
The "never a ball doggy" suddenly transformed. In a viral clip shared on the social media platform Reddit, we see how happy the dog is with her new toy.
As we see in the video, in the beginning, the dog was curious. A cautious sniff and a gentle nudge. Then, within seconds, that play turned into full-body excitement.
She started pushing the ball across the ground, chasing it, circling it and being completely locked in. The same dog who once ignored balls entirely now couldn’t get enough.
It wasn’t just play. It was discovery.
Related: Golden Retriever’s Hilarious Way of Sitting With Mom in the Bathroom Is Pure Comedy
What Are Fans Saying About It?Fans watching the video noticed something most people might ignore. We see a dog experiencing pure, uncomplicated joy. We see her personality shift in real time.
Redditors commented things like “Goldens are the best” and “This is hilarious. Where is it from?” They wanted to know more about the ball, and the original poster replied, explaining it is a balance ball covered in ripstop nylon with parachute ribbon handles.
Why Golden Retrievers Usually Love Playing With BallsGolden retrievers were bred to retrieve. It’s in their name, but more importantly, it’s in their wiring.
Historically, they were used to bring back game during hunts, carrying objects gently in their mouths over long distances. That instinct doesn’t disappear just because they’re living in a family home instead of a field.
For retrievers, a toy ball taps directly into that drive. They move unpredictably, they’re easy to carry, and they create a clear, repeatable task: chase, grab, return.
But not every golden retriever shows that instinct right away. Some dogs need a different trigger. For this particular dog, it was a completely new kind of ball—one that was larger than she is. As we see in the video, the oversized ball leads to her having some oversized fun, and we love to see a happy golden.

Senior Lab’s ‘Bunny Hops’ Leave Everyone Smiling in Surprise
Many senior dog parents recognize the slow, stiff gait that often comes with double-digit birthdays. At the same time, watching a senior dog rediscover play is a specific kind of magic, and pet parents may notice an older dog suddenly grabbing a toy they haven’t touched for years.
In a now-viral video on Reddit, one pup shows that you can teach an old dog new tricks—and rediscover the joy of playtime again.
A Spring in His StepAccording to the original poster, Max is a 14-year-old Labrador retriever, and he recently showed a burst of energy rarely seen in a senior dog: a run that looks more like a bunny hop. His bunny hops serve as a reminder that old doesn’t have to mean immobile. With the right veterinary support, senior pets can find a new rhythm and enjoy fun and play in their golden years.
In his senior years, my 14 year old lab thinks he’s a bunny nowby u/astrohoundstudios in aww
Max’s parent shared a funny update about her black Labrador retriever. In the video, we see Max, hoping on his hind legs, looking like a bunny rabbit. He is eager to play with another dog, and (literally) jumping to meet him.
What looks like a funny moment is something that most pet parents of senior dogs face. As Max’s parent explained, “he was evaluated by a vet and started on pain meds for arthritis. The running is most likely the meds starting to work. It’s only been a few days, but we’re hopeful.”
What Are Fans Saying About It?Fans loved Max’s energy and his enthusiasm. One commenter said, “Good on you mate, always nice to see people looking out for their babies, especially in older age. Our old family lab got like this in her older age, and she certainly wasn't bouncing around with that much energy so fingers crossed the meds work nicely.”
More fans loved the energy Max brings to his older years, saying, “Seeing these babies get older really pulls at the old heartstringz” and “It actually makes me super happy. It means they’ve lived a life of love. Those golden years are a true gift.”

When Age Doesn’t Follow the ScriptPet parents never want to see their dogs age, but there comes a time when you notice small changes. The first time your dog hesitates before jumping onto the couch. The first time a walk gets cut short. It might be subtle at first, but then it becomes the new normal.
That’s why Max’s movement feels so unexpected. At an age where stiffness is expected, he’s doing the opposite. He’s moving in a way that feels almost puppy-like, even if his body is clearly that of a senior.
Dogs with joint discomfort sometimes shift how they move to avoid pain. Instead of alternating their back legs, they move them together to reduce strain. It looks unusual, but it can be surprisingly effective.
Max had just been evaluated by a veterinarian and started on pain medication for arthritis. It had only been a few days, but something was already changing, and we love his new energy.
It’s the kind of moment many dog owners recognize. The day your dog starts acting like themselves again. Max may not run the way he used to and his bunny-like hops aren’t exactly textbook movement, but that’s not the point. What matters is that he’s trying and loving his life just as he is right now.

Every Chicken Coop Needs This Fun Under-$50 Accessory From Walmart
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
I have never understood voluntarily using something prone to breaking or easily sustaining damage.
Take your cell phone. There is no reason at this point for your phone not to be in a durable case with a screen protector. The reason I bring this up is that if you have a chicken coop, it simply doesn’t make sense to use substandard products.
You’ll be glad to know, then, that Walmart is currently running a sale on the DOMIPET extra-large chicken roosting bars for nearly 32% off.
Now $48 instead of $70, this thing is bound to be the hot new hangout spot for your backyard friends. After all, sometimes we all need a change of scenery.
Why We Like This Deal- The wood is designed to ensure the ladder can survive full sunlight, rain, and snow. Excellent news as we move into the summer months, especially in regions prone to storms in July or August.
- If your chickens are in the mood to enjoy themselves, they can take advantage of a ladder or a swing.
- The structure is easy to assemble and can reliably hold as many as 10 chickens.

Shop ItThe Bottom Line: Whenever an opportunity presents itself to capitalize on a 32% discount to improve your chicken coop situation, it's worth a look. The first handful of Walmart shopper reviews of these chicken roosting bars have been a perfect 5-stars, too. Keep in mind that you’ll need to install it yourself. Rare Bear-Like Pup Tries to Be a Lap Dog and It’s Adorable
Both of my dogs are small and easy to identify. My Dachshund-Miniature Pinscher mix is mostly Doxie and has the iconic long body and floppy ears. Her Pug-Corgi brother is your classic low rider with a boxy build and those big, round eyes that give away his Pug heritage.
Truman the Leonberger has the mammoth stature the breed is known for, yet resembles a fluffy bear rather than any sort of canine.
@trumantheleoThis boy loves his ear wubs 🤤 #leonberger #spoilt #giantbreed #lapdog #gentlegiant
♬ original sound - TheTrumanShowIn the TikTok from @trumantheleo, the gigantic fur baby was lying on the couch with his head on his dad's lap. The precious pooch apparently likes ear rubs and was prompting his papa to get to work.
Truman's dad looked like a professional masseuse as he kneaded and stretched Truman's ears and surrounding fur. The canine cutie's hair was thick and fluffy, like a lion's mane around his face. Truman seemed oblivious to his massive size and acted like a lap dog rather than a pup well over 100 pounds.
Viewers of the video fell in love with Truman and compared him to another powerful species with an impressive build.
"That’s not a dog, that’s a bearlion," one remarked.
"Excuse me, that’s a big fluffy bear on that man’s lap," another pointed out.
"You must’ve had this comment before, but that’s a true bear, not a Truman. Lovely fluffy boy," a follower posted.
"Don’t move — it appears you have a bear in your home," someone joked.
How Big Do Leonbergers Get?This beautiful breed is known for its thick, fluffy coat and eye-catching physique. These canines are considered full adult size at 18 to 22 months. Male Leonbergers usually reach 28-32 inches in height at adulthood, and weigh between 110 and 170 pounds. Females stand between 25 and 29 inches in height, and tip the scales at 90 to 140 pounds.

Known as a working breed, the Leonberger was initially used as a farming dog. Their strength and high energy made them a popular pick to serve in both World Wars to transport ammunition carts.
Leonbergers are very loving and gentle, and make wonderful family dogs. And like Truman beautifully demonstrates, these pups love affection.

Pit Bull Siblings With Rare 'Mega-Fluff' Gene Reunite With Competing Toupees
When adopting a dog (from anywhere), it's easy to forget they likely had littermates as newborn pups with whom they may have bonded. It's incredibly heartwarming when they get the chance to reunite, if only to see if they remember each other.
This recently happened to Theodore James Bonaparte-Meadows, an American Pit Bull Terrier with an ultra-rare long-haired gene, when Mom took him to visit his long-lost sister, Rosie. It's really something to see Theo's toupee-looking mohawk, but next to his equally furry sibling, they're unstoppable!
Best buds!
♬ original sound - Money_clipsHuge shoutout to @joannaleighmeadow for sharing the precious reunion of two rare Pit Bull pups who hadn't seen each other in two long years, because this is everything.
As explained in the comments, here's how it went down:
"Theo got excited as soon as we pulled into their place, which was weird cause he had never been to this house. Rosie was immediately excited. Theo took a few minutes. I think he was in shock. He kept smelling her, but a few minutes in, they were losing their minds, lol."
She added that Rosie is typically scared of strangers, and she jumped right into the car, "ready to roll with her brother."

This woolly pair has been compared to Chewbacca, a “Pit Bull under cover," and a character from Gremlins, which are all correct! And as many experts confirmed, littermates can remember each other through scent, triggering joy, excitement, and curiosity. This can last up to two years after separation. Looks like Theo and Rosie came together just in time!
Here's a closer look at their cuteness!
@joannaleighmeadowThe way she keeps thinking about it 🤔💭😂
♬ original sound - King Theodore & Princess Rosie The Gene That Gives Pit Bull Pups Luscious LocksI'd be remiss not to note why these two angels have such long, luxurious locks, because it's their main attraction! The rare recessive genetic mutation, which is called the FGF5 gene, is inherited from both parents (one from each), and it controls hair growth, resulting in a fluffy or long-haired Pit Bull.
It's pretty lucky that Rosie has a bit of the gene as well. Just when I thought discovering one fluffy-haired Pittie was mind-blowing, Rosie came along and said,"Hold my beer," proving dreams really do come true!

Dachshund's Heart-Melting Way of Asking for Cuddles Is the Cutest Thing We've Ever Seen
Some dogs ask for affection in a normal way. And then there is Rigatoni, a wire-haired Dachshund who has apparently decided that the best way to request cuddles is to throw himself onto his back, add a few tiny whines, flick his little paws in the air, and absolutely destroy everyone’s emotional stability.
In this video clip, Rigatoni is sprawled out in full baby mode, looking impossibly cute and very aware of it. The little whines are soft, the paw flicks are dramatic, and the whole thing feels like a perfectly choreographed plea for immediate snuggling. The music only makes it worse in the best possible way. It adds that extra layer of awww that turns a sweet dog video into a full event.
@wildwildwilli_original🥹 #wildwildwilli #dachshund #dogsofinstagram #rauhaardackel #wirehaireddachshund
♬ UP - DIMAS RANGGA ANANDITAWhat makes it so good is that Rigatoni is not being subtle about any of this. He is not gently nudging for attention or casually scooting closer. He is fully committed to his cuddle campaign. He looks like a tiny Victorian child asking to be comforted on a fainting couch, and honestly, it is working.
The comments are exactly what you would hope. One person wrote, “Give that baby some cuddles stat!! 🥺😭😁,” which feels less like a comment and more like a direct public service announcement. Another said, “This is dramatic, but I’d die for Rigatoni. Yes, I would 😭,” and frankly, that feels like a reasonable position after watching this level of cuteness unfold.
It also helps that this TikTok account is already stacked with adorable content, because there are four Dachshunds in the house. Four. That is not a home, that is a fully operational sausage-dog entertainment network. But even in a house full of stars, Rigatoni really knows how to make a moment his own.
This clip has everything people want from pet content: a dog with a huge personality, a very specific little behavior, and the kind of sweetness that makes you instantly send it to someone else. Rigatoni is not just asking for cuddles. He is demanding a response from the entire internet, and from the look of things, the internet is more than willing to comply.
Dogs Really Do Use Their Bodies to Ask for LoveRigatoni’s tiny paw flicks and whines are not just adorable; they are also classic dog communication. PetMD notes that dogs often use pawing to communicate a need, including wanting attention or affection, which is exactly why little gestures like this can feel so clear once you know your dog’s style. Dogs also show comfort and happiness through body language, like relaxed posture, seeking closeness, and soft vocalizing.
Honestly, Rigatoni was one paw flick away from filing a formal cuddle request with management.

Orange Maine Coon Mom Is the Ultimate Multitasker and We're Tired Just Watching Her
Most mothers are excellent multitaskers.
Even if you only have one child (and that is still very hard), you are often trying to accomplish six different things at the same time.
This skill translates over to cat mothers as well.
We see that in this video from @wildmane_mainecoons, which features a beautiful orange Maine Coon cat named Honey, who's the new mother of what looks like four adorable kittens (of course, there could be more).
Kittens demand a lot from their mothers, as we know, and Honey is trying to do everything for all of them at the same time, and it is pretty darn impressive!
In the video, we see her lying down, but she is hardly relaxing with those great, big, beautiful ears of hers.
She is stretching one arm to groom a dark Orange Kitten who is cleaning himself, but she is lending a hand.
Then she cleans another Orange Kitten with her tongue, and all of this is happening as a little Black Kitten is nursing on her.
Then she starts grooming the nursing Black Kitten as the two little Orange Kitties start to paw at each other and play.
Though Honey looks a little tired, she doesn't seem fazed by all the action happening around her.
The little kittens are clearly learning fast, as they are also grooming each other.
Like mother, like children!

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoons Fun Facts About Maine CoonsIt’s amazing to think that these currently tiny kittens will grow to reach between 12 and 15 pounds for the females and between 18 and 22 pounds for the males.
They will also soon grow those beautiful lynx-like ears with tufts at the ends.
Maine Coon cats are among the largest domestic cat breeds, and as you can see, even when they are kittens, they are very confident, energetic, and full of curiosity.
They also demand a lot from their mothers!
Maine Coon cats are extremely maternal, as we can see with Honey here.

Golden Retriever's Cute Game of Peek-a-Boo Will Instantly Make You Smile
Dogs perform some heartwarming tricks and moves. Some pups are trained to master these feats, while others make it happen organically. My Pug mix spontaneously breaks out into an adorable little dance whenever I bring him his food. He spins in circles and jumps around in excitement in a clumsy, non-choreographed mix of movements that's absolutely adorable.

This wasn't Bumi's first time performing his peek-a-boo skills. Previous posts featured the fur baby demonstrating how adept he is at the game usually reserved for babies and toddlers.
Followers fell in love with the precious pooch and raved over his flawless peek-a-boo prowess while maintaining perfect positioning of his bunny ears.
"It just doesn't get any cuter than this!!" one gushed.
"I need these peek-a-boos while I work. I’d be much more pleasant," another shared.
"Bumi is absolutely the cutest thing ever!!!" a fan cheered.
"You're so sweet and beautiful and cute and adorable and so cutie pie," someone posted.
"That’s funny, I thought this was Bumi’s account, but all I see is a bunny!" a follower joked.
Golden Retrievers Are Highly IntelligentBumi is a wonderful example of how smart Golden Retrievers are. They have a high capacity to learn and are ranked as the fourth most intelligent breed, right behind Border Collies, Poodles, and German Shepherds.

Their intelligence is often overshadowed by their affable and silly nature, yet Goldens are very easy to train and very in tune with human emotions. These dogs have an intelligence level on par with a 2 or 2.5 year old child and can learn over 165 words.
Bumi nailed peek-a-boo, so he's probably already planning his next challenge.

Dog's Hilarious Human-Like Pose Just Earned Her a Family Responsibility Upgrade
In the wide world of dogs, some are so expressive that it's like there's a grown person inside dying to break free. You know the ones—they're sassy, opinionated, and just so human-like, they can't possibly be a pup. One hilarious canine named Joni proves my point, and once you see the funny way that she sits next to her human sister, you'll understand why!

♬ original sound - Jeff WorrallThe brief video shared by @setebaidt1 shows a seemingly annoyed Joni sitting upright on the couch next to her toddler sibling. She looks like she had a long day at the factory and needs to take a load off, so no, Dad, this hard-working gal will not be babysitting the child right now!
With this funny way of sitting, Joni looks like she desperately needs a bit to decompress with a bubble bath, martini, and juicy book to melt the stress away! As you can imagine, Joni's relatable expression garnered a ton of comments from those who think Ms. Joni nailed that "exhausted parent" look!

"Joni has clocked out," one person wrote. "She's had a rough day at work," another added. Others shared zoomed-in screenshots of the comical dog's "over it" face, and as a parent myself, it's a little too relatable!
Now that you've seen Joni in all her annoyed glory, it might surprise you to know she looked like an entirely different girl as a puppy. Based on when the older clips were shared, the mixed breed is around 5 years old, and her best attribute—those floppy ears—was even cuter on her much smaller frame!

♬ original sound - Jeff Worrall Why Do Some Dogs Sit Like Humans? When it comes to taking a load off and sitting comfortably, dogs like Joni figured out the cheat code. By mimicking their people and sitting upright, it helps alleviate any joint pain or pressure on their hips and back. It's more common in bigger breeds with long legs and stumpier breeds like Bulldogs.
This form of "lazy sitting" can be learned through observation or because they happened upon it one day and decided it felt a lot better than what they've been doing. If they get a laugh out of us, they're more likely to continue doing it!
However Joni discovered her new position, we thank her for her service!

French Bulldog Gets PetSmart Shopping Trip—'I Won't Rush Him, This Is His Sephora'
Some dogs get ‘dragged’ along on errands. But not Monaco theFrench Bulldog. He gets the full luxury shopping experience.
There's a TikTok where Monaco's rolling through PetSmart in a stroller and his mom's letting him take his sweet time and enjoy the experience. Let’s be real, nobody enjoys being rushed when shopping. The caption reads, "I won't rush him. This is his Sephora!" which explains everything you need to know about this shopping trip.
The POV text sets the mood,"You took me to PetSmart and expected self control?" Apparently, asking a Frenchie to stay calm in a store full of toys and treats is difficult.

Monaco’s fans immediately understood the assignment.
PetSmart's official account showed up: "Thanks for visiting us, we hope to see you again soon 🥰 🐾" because even PetSmart recognizes quality customer appreciation.

"He's so adorable" stating the obvious.
Monaco's getting the VIP treatment; stroller transport, time to browse and a full selection available. Mom's not rushing the process because she gets it—PetSmart to Frenchies is what Sephora is to makeup lovers. You never rush that process.
French Bulldogs Are Social Dogs Who Enjoy Outings and Bond Deeply With Their PeopleHere's why taking Monaco on shopping trips works: French Bulldogs are naturally social dogs who genuinely love being around their humans. They love being part of whatever's happening. Personally, my Frenchie, Blouie, suffers from the worst case of FOMO anytime his humans are out of his sight. Taking Monaco to PetSmart isn't just about getting a toy—it's about including him in daily life.
Frenchies bond deeply with their people. That closeness is genuine and real. They want to be wherever their humans are, involved in their day-to-day activities. A shopping trip to PetSmart where Monaco gets to take his time and select his own lovey? That's quality time from his perspective.

Before taking any dog to a store, though, a few things matter. The dog needs reliable house-training. They need to be able to handle being around strangers, kids, and possibly other dogs without losing their mind or getting too stressed. They definitely need solid leash manners—staying beside you without pulling or trying to greet everyone is mandatory.
Monaco rolling through in a stroller actually solves a lot of those challenges. He's strapped in, can’t run freely, and can enjoy the experience without needing perfect store behavior or being reprimanded the entire time.
The key skills for store-ready dogs include walking nicely on leash, sitting and staying calmly while you shop, and leaving tempting items alone. However, Monaco's getting the luxury version where mom handles the logistics and he handles the most important part: choosing his own toy.PetSmart as his Sephora? Perfect comparison. Both require time, consideration, and zero rushing.
Rescue Pup Smiles Uncontrollably at Seeing His Dad After 36 Hours
Cactus, the rescue dog, was overwhelmed with emotion at seeing his dad, who dared to go away without him for an entire 36 hours. Cactus was enjoying the good life at his uncle's house, lounging on the waterfront balcony (and pooping on the tennis court, apparently) when his dad returned and surprised the sweet pup. Cactus reacted by wagging his tail wildly and wearing the most hilarious snarly smile until his dad went over to smother him with cuddles.
@cactustherescueCactus pulled out all the smiles when I showed up to pick him up. He was posted on the balcony at his uncle’s place, just taking in the view like he owned it. Do Dogs Actually Smile? We all know the look—that open mouth, soft eyes, tongue out situation that feels very much like a smile. But scientifically speaking, dogs aren’t “smiling” the way we do. It just happens to look that way to us.
What we call a dog smile is usually a relaxed expression—often paired with panting, a loose body, and a wagging tail. It can mean your dog is happy, but it’s really just one piece of a bigger picture. Dogs communicate more through their overall body language than through their faces alone. Hence, Cactus's full-body wags and shakes.
There’s also a learned behavior element. Dogs are incredibly good at reading humans, and they figure out pretty quickly that when they make that happy, open-mouthed face, they get a positive reaction—attention, praise, maybe even a treat. So naturally, they do it more.
That said, not every “smile” is actually a sign of happiness. Sometimes showing teeth can mean stress or submission, especially if the rest of the body looks tense or unsure. In the case of Cactus, his snarl-smile is probably a mix of happy stress and excitement.
So, dogs may not smile in the human sense—but they do express happiness in ways that feel very familiar. The real tell isn’t just the face—it’s the whole vibe.

Golden Retriever Puppy's Adorable Sleeping Pose Is the Stuff Dreams Are Made Of
Some puppies sleep quietly. Walter the Golden Retriever? He’s not ‘some’ puppies. He's out cold on the couch like he's never been more comfortable anywhere in his entire life.
There's the cutest TikTok where little Walter is completely crashed on the couch just being completely adorable. The caption reads, "He's actually my perfect angel (when he's sleeping) 🥺," which honestly all puppy parents can identify with.

"What a life," truly.
"Dogs are better than people," a hot take most would agree with.
Walter feels safe enough at home that he can just fall into this peaceful slumber. Based on his relaxed pose, he seems to be at ease. Those little puppy movements and sounds, he's definitely dreaming about something.
Golden Retriever Puppies Dream More Frequently Than Adult DogsHere's what's actually happening when Walter's twitching and making those little puppy sounds: he's dreaming. Dogs experience the exact same sleep stages humans do, including REM sleep—that good, deep sleep where dreaming becomes possible.
During REM sleep, brain activity actually increases. Sometimes, eyes move rapidly beneath eyelids and breathing can become quick and uneven. The body might twitch or move. All of this is a part of normal dreaming.
Puppies like Walter usually dream more often than adult dogs because they're bradn new and taking in tons of new information daily. Their brains have a lot to process at night. While Walter's sleeping, his brain's probably replaying the day he just had; maybe that ball he chased across the house, maybe that brisk morning walk or maybe meeting another dog friend at the park.

There's a part of the brain called the pons that acts like a safety switch, preventing dogs from fully acting out whatever they're dreaming and possibley hurting themselves. That's why Walter might paddle his legs like he's running but doesn’t gallop off the couch and remains safely on the couch.
The twitching, the little puppy sounds, the leg movements—all of it, that's just Walter having sweet dreams. There’s absolutely nothing to worry about. Just let sleeping dogs lie…literally.
Walter blocked in on that couch, dead asleep, dreaming his puppy dreams? That's Walter theGolden Retriever puppy living his best life.
Perfect angel status: absolutely confirmed.
6 Dog Behaviors With Hidden Meanings, According to Cesar Millan
There are times when it feels like you and your dog share a level of understanding that others just can’t grasp. But there are also moments when your pup may leave you completely puzzled. Are they rolling over because they want a belly rub or is there something more to it? You’re not the only one struggling to understand your devoted companion, many pet parents are in the same boat. To help you out, we rounded up 6 dog behaviors that have hidden meanings, according to Cesar Millan. That way, you can learn how to read your dog better.
After all, it takes time to understand what your dog is tryng to communicate if you don't know how to read your dog’s behavior or body language. And, even then, it can be tricky to decode their underlying messages when you try to apply a human perspective to a dog’s actions. “People humanize them,” says Millan, dog behaviorist and star of Better Human, Better Dog. “When you don’t want to see what you need to see, it will be hard to figure out what your dog is trying to tell you."
But once you do a deep dive into your pup’s actions and the consistency of those canine behaviors, Millan says you can start to decipher what’s going on below the surface. So if you want to learn more about why your dog behaves the way they do, keep reading because Millan explains the secret meanings behind common canine behaviors, helping you understand dog communication cues and strengthen your human-dog bond.
6 Dog Behaviors That Have Hidden Meanings A dog with its owner. To truly understand what your dog is trying to communicate, context is key when trying to find the real meanings of why your dog does certain things. So, try to take everything that’s happening into account to help narrow things down. Paying attention to these signals helps you interpret canine behavior cues, improve your dog’s well-being, and strengthen the human-dog bond.
Your dog licks their lipsUnderstanding dog body language and dog behavior meanings can be tricky. So when your dog is licking their lips, it could signal a few different things. That's why it can be confusing. “It can be anxiety,” Millan says. “When a dog is anxious or a little bit fearful, they do that.” But your dog also may simply be excited that you’re cooking food or that a nearby dog is in heat. “A dog is the most honest member of your family. They don’t hide behind things,” Millan says. Learning how to read your dog’s signals like this can help strengthen your bond and better understand their emotions.
Your dog randomly yawnsWhen it comes to hidden meanings within dog behaviors, a yawn is one pet parents often aren't always sure about. “When I’m working with a dog that is anxious or aggressive and I stop them, the yawning is an indication that he’s transitioning to a more calm state,” Millan says. “For me, it’s a good sign.” Dogs may also yawn to signal that they’re not feeling great or are just plain tired, Millan says. In this case, “the body language isn’t as powerful as much as the energy behind it,” Millan says.
Your dog starts to roll on its backUnderstanding dog behavior meanings and dog body language can help you decode why your dog rolls on its back. “It could be that he found a poop and is rolling over it,” Millan says. But it may also be a way for your pooch to cool himself off. “A lot of times, they’re just playing or it feels really good,” Millan says. "Dogs may also do this when they’re surrendering to a member of the pack."
They start to paw at youPawing is one of the most common ways dogs communicate with their owners through body language and behavior signals. But, what does this dog behavior mean? Well, it often has a secret meaning you need to decode. “If your dog is gently pawing at you, that’s a good thing,” Millan says. “But if a dog is harshly pawing at you, it’s demanding something and saying, ‘Come on, give me food,' or 'Take me for a walk,' or 'Let’s go to bed.’” Intensity matters here, according to Millan. “It’s very important to always pay attention to the energy,” he says.
Your dog digs at the floor insideWhen your dog digs at the floor inside, it’s one of the many dog behaviors with meanings that pet parents need to look into so they can tend to their pup's emotions and needs. "Digging at the floor is usually a sign of nesting," Millan says. "Females will often do this inside before settling down, while males may dig at the floor if they’re bored or frustrated." Paying attention to these actions can improve your understanding of canine habits and help you meet your dog’s mental and physical needs.
They repeatedly sneeze while they're playingSneezing during play is a common dog behavior with a secret meaning that can reveal what your pup is experiencing. Because of this, the reason behing this action is probably more obvious than you think. “It might mean something went inside his nose,” Millan says. “It’s not a natural thing unless there’s some kind of dust.” Dogs have big nostrils and they breathe through them “like a vacuum,” Millan points out. So, your pup may simply have sucked in an irritant.

Experts Reveal 7 Adorable Signs Your Cat is Loyal
No matter the species, every animal has its own unique way of showing they care. In the case of cats, as a pet parent, it can be a little harder to decipher what they’re thinking and feeling. Does your cat feel a sense of devotion to you, or would they be happy with any old owner? If you're curious, you're in luck because we had experts reveal 7 signs your cat is loyal. That way, you won't have to guess what your cat's body language and behaviors means and ask yourself if your cat truly loves you. Instead, you'll be able to decode how cats show they are bonded and attached to a person.
"People are always trying to learn more about what their cats think and do. They use their own understanding of human emotion, and the relatively little they know about feline emotion by comparison, to try and characterize feline behavior,” says LeeAnna Buis, certified feline training and behavior specialist at Feline Behavior Solutions. “The tricky part is that people can't ask their cats to confirm that understanding.”
Buis calls loyalty a “bit of a grey area” with cats. “Cats can stick by your side if you're upset and even defend you in times of danger,” she says. “That certainly feels like loyalty. Does that mean your cat‘shows firm and constant support or allegiance, which is the definition of loyal? It’s hard to say for sure because the human experience of ‘showing support and allegiance,’ and even the reasons we might do those things, is likely quite different from your cat's experience and motivation. Because of that, until we find a magical way to have those conversations, we have to use a combination of what we know and what we feel to try and understand our feline family member's behavior."
With that in mind, these are some of the biggest signs you have a loyal cat who is commited to you and will be by your side no matter what.

7 Signs Your Cat is Loyal A loyal and loving cat on its owner's lap.A cat that has your back is one that’s truly bonded to you. This kind of loyalty goes beyond simple affection—it shows trust, comfort, and a deep connection that only comes from a cat feeling secure in your presence. See if your cat shows any signs of commitment below so you cna know how they feel about you.
They greet you at the doorEvery cat is different and some breeds are more likely to do this than others. But a cat that greets you at the door is clearly invested in you and your whereabouts. "Cats form attachment bonds to their pet parents, which is similar to how human children attach to their parents," says Alison Gerken, DVM, a veterinary behaviorist at the San Francisco SPCA. "Greeting you at the door is another way to show they feel linked to you."
They follow you aroundOne of the most telling signs your cat is loyal to you is their desire to stay close to you throughout the day by being clingy. This kind of affectionate cat behavior shows a strong bond and highlights how much they trust your presence. "Similarly to greeting you at the door, a cat that follows you from room to room is your cat's way of staying connected,” Gerken says. This subtle form of cat attachment behavior is a clear indicator of loyal cat behavior and a deeper emotional connection between you and your pet.
They groom youWhy does your cat groom you? "Grooming is often a bonding behavior between cats," according to Gerken. "When your cat grooms you—usually through licking—they’re sharing their own behaviors with you. This is a sign that your cat thinks of you as family and who are you more loyal to than that?"
They sleep around youAnother clear sign your cat is loyal is when they choose to sleep on or near your bed. This behavior demonstrates a strong cat-owner bond and shows that your feline feels safe and comfortable in your presence.
In fact, an intruder will need to get through your loyal cat at night before they can get to you. "A cat that sleeps on or near your bed is showing that they’re bonded to you," says Gerken. This affectionate cat behavior is a heartwarming indicator that your furry friend truly values you and is dedicated to you.

They flash their tummyHow can you tell if your cat is loyal? While a dog may show their stomach when they want a belly rub, this is a little different for cats, according to Hilary Humm-Beatty, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. "This is a show of trust," she says. "While this behavior can also be playful, it shows that your cat trusts you enough to be vulnerable around you."
They’re relaxed around youIf you've ever wondered, 'Does my cat love me?'pay attention to their body language. "Neutral body language, like smooth fur and relaxed whiskers is a solid sign that your cat feels comfortable in your presence," according to Humm-Beatty. "A relaxed cat will move slowly and without tension, signaling that they feel good in your orbit and love you." This affectionate cat behavior is a subtle yet powerful way your feline shows trust and devotion.
They plop on youWhen a cat chooses to rest on your lap or chest, it’s a heart-melting sign your cat is loyal. Beyond enjoying the warmth, this behavior shows attachment, because cats are naturally vulnerable when lying down. While your lap is undoubtedly warm, this can be another sign of trust as well. "Cats are vulnerable when they’re resting, which means they feel comfortable and unthreatened around you in this position," per Humm-Beatty. Therefore, this is how cats show loyalty to their owners.

British Longhair Cat's Plush Tail Rivals the World's Best Feather Duster
As a parent to humans and pets, it's been quite a ride watching all the ways each of them has transformed over the years and come into their own. My human kids have sprouted to heights taller than me, while my dogs' muzzles have started to turn gray. Of my felines, it's my Ragdoll kitty who's had the biggest "before" and "after," but mostly because of the level of fluff he's accrued!
British Longhair cat, Blueberry, falls into the same furry category, but with her tail! It's perfectly plush, fluffy, "floofy," and every other similar descriptor you can think of!
@ourcatbiscuitLittle miss feather duster 🪶
♬ ONCE THERE WAS A WAYYYYYY - WOAHHHThe difference between 2 months and 1 year old is incredible. Blueberry was already a gorgeous kitten with a good amount of snow-white fur. But the older she's grown, the more of it goes straight to that feather duster-looking tail (Swiffer, eat your heart out)!
Her glow-up left an impression on some of her and kitty sister Biscuit's nearly 34k TikTok followers, with some calling her iconic, regal, majestic, and even groundbreaking. I have to say, she's so much more than her tail, but I do bow down to the "glorious plumage!"
Related: British Longhair Sisters' First Outside Adventure Is One for the Books
As a certified earth angel, Blueberry has always had the gift of beauty on her side. When she was a wee little babe, her mere presence was enough to send us all into full swoon mode.
All kittens are perfect, but this girl's spellbinding sapphire eyes and teeny-tiny ears matched with her compact frame put her over the top!
@ourcatbiscuitSome baby Blueberry content to brighten your day 🤍
♬ Stuff We Did (from 'Up') - Piano Version - your movie soundtrack British Longhair Cats Give Other Felines Fur EnvyBlueberry is a good example of how poofy this breed can get. A British Longhair cat's luxurious, soft, "exceptionally fluffy" fur is actually a plush, dense, long overcoat with an even thicker undercoat. With the added mane around their necks and their "ruff" tails, these kitties are often compared to teddy bears or stuffed animals.
With all of these gorgeous fur features, cats like Blueberry require a higher level of maintenance, like regular grooming, to prevent matting. For the dedicated cat parent, it's a small price to pay for something so glorious!

Golden Retriever Gets a Perfect Side Part From Grandma and Looks Ready for Church
There is just something about a grandma doing your hair that hits differently. It is gentle. It is slightly judgmental. And somehow, you always end up looking like you are about to attend a very important event.
Apparently, that experience is not just for humans.
@monte_madnessi do prefer to look nice. thank u granma #goldenretriever #cutedogs #dogsoftiktok #funnyvideos #fyp
♬ original sound - Monte MadnessThe sweet and hilarious video from @monte_madness shows a very patient Golden Retriever sitting with his grandma while she carefully combs his fur into a perfect little side part.
And not just any side part.
This is a full “you are going to church, and you will behave,” side part.

As she softly combs his hair, she starts talking to him in that classic grandma whisper voice, and then casually delivers some unexpected shade.
“You know Grandma misses you living here. I don’t get to do your hair all the time anymore… and I know mama doesn’t do your hair. She doesn’t realize you like to be handsome everywhere you go.”
Ma’am.
Not the drive-by on Mom in the middle of a grooming session.
The dog, meanwhile, is absolutely loving it. Just sitting there soaking up the attention like a tiny, very fluffy gentleman who knows he looks good.
The comments were immediate perfection.
“He looks like he has an 800 credit score.”
“Not the Easter Sunday side part!”
“I feel like he needs a bow tie. It’s giving school picture day vibes.”
Others picked up on the emotional side of it.
“He loves the combs and the whispers and compliments.”
“This is giving Grandma licking her thumb to clean your face vibes, and I like it.”
And honestly, yes. This is a core memory being formed in real time.
There is something so comforting about the way he leans into her, completely relaxed, completely trusting, like this is exactly where he is supposed to be.
Why 'Granddogs' Are So Good for Grandparents Two dogs and a cat with Grandpa.Image Via: Budimir Jevtic/Shutterstock
Spending time with dogs can be incredibly beneficial for older adults, both emotionally and physically. Dogs provide companionship, reduce feelings of loneliness, and often bring a sense of routine and purpose to the day.
Even simple interactions like petting, talking, or in this case, giving a very serious side part, can help reduce stress and boost overall mood.
For many grandparents, having a “granddog” offers all the joy of having a pet without the full-time responsibility, while still allowing them to form deep, meaningful bonds.
And if that bond includes brushing their fur, giving them compliments, and making sure they look handsome everywhere they go, even better.
Because let’s be honest, this Golden Retriever is absolutely ready for church.

Mini Dachshund Swaddles Himself Like a 'Sausage Roll' and It's Quite Impressive
Some dogs can do amazing tricks. Their capacity to learn through training and repetition enables them to accomplish some mind-boggling feats. Franklin the Mini Dachshund is a wonderful example of a canine's ability to master challenging moves. The precious pooch is able to make himself quite cozy in a blanket all on his own using an impressive technique.
@franklin.the.sausage.dogNew trick unlocked #miniaturedachshund #minidachshund #dog #sausageroll #dogtrick
♬ Opening (Spirit of Adventure) - Andrea Datzman & Curtis GreenIn the TikTok from @franklin.the.sausage.dog, the darling Doxie stared into the camera as he mentally prepared to perform his "new trick". His mom called out, "Sausage roll!" and he sprang into action.
As he lay on a blanket on the floor, Franklin grabbed a corner of the blanket in his mouth, pulled it over himself as he did a 360-degree roll on his back, then up again on his stomach.
The clever canine perfectly executed a sort of swaddle with the blanket, or in his case, a "sausage roll". After completing the feat, Franklin looked into the camera as if to say, "TA-DA!"
Followers raved over Franklin's skill and precision with the trick, with many asking how he learned such a complicated move.
"What a cutie patootie!" one gushed.
"This made me smile so much," another shared.
"What a smart little one!!!" a fan praised.
"So clever — Would love to know how you did this," someone requested.
Step-By-Step Instructions for the 'Sausage Roll'In a follow-up post, Franklin's mom shared in the onscreen text how she trained her canine cutie to complete the eye-catching trick as the Doxie demonstrated each step:
- Step 1: Make sure they can roll over. If they struggle, guide them round with a treat, and say 'roll over' command.
- Step 2: Practice holding the blanket. We use commands 'take' and 'wait', then 'drop it'. You can hold their mouth closed gently at first so they know what you want them to do.
- Step 3: Practice picking up the blanket — used the command 'take' and tapped on the corner.
- Step 4: Combine 'take' and 'roll over'. When they do this, introduce the command you want to use (we use 'sausage roll').
- Step 5: Practice, practice, practice!
As requested, a step by step on how to teach the ✨sausage roll✨ trick! #miniaturedachshund #minidachshund #dog #sausageroll #dogtrick
♬ Oogum Boogum Song - Brenton WoodFranklin's mom pointed out that she leaves the blanket folded at the side so it's easier for the precious pooch to pick it up.
"Side note: Make sure they are aligned on the blanket and lying down or you might get this," she added as Franklin got a little confused during one attempt and ended up lying down on the blanket in a heap.
If Dachshunds catch on and give this a try, Franklin may have started a 'sausage roll' trend!

Scottish Fold Cat Uses Every Ounce of Energy Chasing a Mysterious Red Dot
Few things take a cat's attention more immediately than the sudden appearance of a red dot or a red-colored, mouse-shaped light. One second, the cat is sleeping, calm as could be, and the next, she's darting, pouncing, and locked right in on this mystery new intruder of her space. It's weird but very much cat-like, and it's so funny.
We see that play out in this video of a very cute Scottish Fold, who was calm as could be until her attention was drawn tightly to a red, mouse-shaped light. Everything changed, with no hesitation, and this kitty was ready to use everything in her for this hunt. Take a look!

♬ We Don't Care - AkonTikTok user @nala_abujackson shared a video of a very cute gray Scottish Fold cat named Nala. She's got the typical features of the Scottish Fold, with delicately folded-over ear tips, super-round head and cheeks, and high-set, round-shaped eyes that are easy to fall in love with.
And in this clip, she's being a typical feline who's found a toy that, for whatever reason, seems to be a top favorite among most cats, even if we don't understand it ourselves.

She is going back and forth, side to side, speeding up and slowing down, trying to catch a mysterious red mouse-shaped light that's appearing off and then on the floor. It shoots across the tile, then the carpet, then disappears, and she doesn't let it out of her sight for a second.
The comments on the video were filled with very appropriate emojis of red hearts and red heart-eyed smiles.

Scottish Fold Cats Are Known for Their Ears and PersonalityScottish Fold cats are so adorable, even when they're just being typical kitties and running around chasing a dot. And that's pretty expected of these silly felines, who are known for their ears and personalities.
Hill's Pet explains that Scottish Folds are medium-sized cats with very round faces, and it's their ears that create that illusion. They explain that since their heads are round and their ear tips are folded down, they look like they're ball-shaped, which of course, is super cute.
But in addition to their cute and unique features, these kitties, who are known to live around 9 to 12 years, are very charming, easy to live with (because they're so cute), caring, and affectionate. They're pretty good with all family members of any age, as long as they're handled gently and not approached too roughly.
As you can see in this clip of the silly cat chasing the laser light, they love to have fun and can move pretty fast—that's just the best part of being a cat parent.
