Mini Schnauzer Uses Cartoon Character Face To Get Him Out of Trouble
One of life's greatest gifts is stumbling upon a dog who won the Pixar gene lottery. You know the type of pup I'm referring to: They are born with adorably cartoonish features that cannot be real, and they're 100% inspiration for films like The Lorax without even trying. It's really not fair how cool and cute and cuddly these canines are, but we thank them for blessing our eyes.
Fritz is one of these impossibly precious pups, but even by Miniature Schnauzer standards, he exceeds every expectation. This is exactly what he counts on when Mom catches him doing something he shouldn't!
@alfie.and.fritzthe eye contact 😂 he has no shame
♬ sorry i can't hear you i'm kinda busy - life illustratedAs you can see, Fritz isn't like other Miniature Schnauzers. He's like the upgraded version, the 2.0 update with all the bells and whistles! It doesn't matter if he's discovered the toilet paper and intends to destroy the house with it because he's way too cute to get into any trouble.
Related: Miniature Schnauzer Becomes 'Lorax's' Adorable Twin After Haircut
Having no shame and owning the fact that he, indeed, shouldn't have taken the toilet paper only adds to Fritz's appeal. It's hard work being the main character in Mom's life, so it's understandable if he needed to take the edge off.
If you're not fully convinced that Fritz should have a cartoon movie made in his likeness, take a look at how photogenic he is. Even for dental pictures, this little guy is a pro at stealing hearts and taking names.
@alfie.and.fritzHe was in a silly goofy mood 😂 the best photos ever @V.I.C. Pet Dental Spa #dogsoftiktok #dogdentalcare
♬ original sound - EpicGamingMusic Why Are Dogs Fascinated With Stealing Toilet Paper?Cutie-pie Fritz isn't the first or last dog who's taken to thieving the TP. The allure of it stems from their primal need to shred and dissect things, as they would in the wild with prey. Toilet paper serves a few purposes: The texture and sound satisfy their senses, and the fact that it unfurls makes it a fun game to chase or destroy.
Pups who sprint into the bathroom to take a roll might be curious or bored, so they're looking for a way to have some fun.
While it's not a good thing to come home to TP pieces all over the house, consider yourself lucky you don't also have a sweet cartoon face like Fritz's to contend with, because that will win every time!

Tuxedo Cat's Stare of Disgust Over Having House Guests Is an Absolute Riot
Privacy? Home as a sanctuary? Luna the Tuxedo Cat takes these things very seriously, and when that sanctity is violated, she is not happy. More importantly, she is not afraid to let you know it.
In a TikTok featuring Luna, she walks into the room and discovers—to her absolute horror—that there's an unexpected guest in the house. She is absolutely not here for it. The caption reads, "She's pissed 🤣," which honestly looks more like she’s part terrified and part horrified.
The text overlay says, "She hates when people are over!" and truly, does anyone really like unexpected people at their house? No, the answer is no. As you can see based on Luna's face, pop ins are definitely not cool with her.

♬ House featuring John Cale - Charli xcx & John CaleLuna's reaction is priceless. She looks at the visitor. Then she looks at her human with the most disgusted, disappointed expression a cat can manage.
Commenters immediately had thoughts on Luna's energy.
"The way she looks at you then looks at him says it all," one eagle-eyed fan captured Luna’s double take of judgment.
"Clearly you did not ask permission first🤣," because Luna definitely has a visitor approval process that was not followed.

Luna's just standing there staring, radiating pure disgust. The unbothered guest gets a death stare. Meanwhile, mom gets the, "I'm very disappointed in your choices," look. Luna does not care. Nobody's getting her approval here today.
This is Luna's safe space. Her humans are aware. Visitors were never authorized by Luna. Feelings on the situation have been made abundantly clear on all ocassions.Luna is not playing.
Some Cats Are Just Naturally Suspicious Of New People and Need Time to AdjustHere's the one thing about Luna's reaction to visitors: not all cats have the same personalities when it comes to new people in their environment. Some appoint themselves official greeter the moment anyone walks through the door. Others, just like Luna, would much rather prefer that no one ever visited their house again. Ever.
A cat who hides, hisses, or in Luna's case, delivers looks of judgment and disgust isn't broken. They're just on the more cautious end of the spectrum when it comes to new people.
Cats who aren’t comfortable with visitors in the house need things done differently than most. Moving too quickly, reaching out to pet right away, making direct eye contact—all of those feel threatening to a nervous or territorial cat even when the intention's completely friendly.

For cats like Luna who seriously don’t want strangers in their personal space, the best approach is let them set the pace. No pressure, no agenda. Just a human and a cat existing in the same space without anything scary happening to either of them.
Comfort is possible but it takes patience and respecting the cat's timeline.
Luna's being straight up from the moment she spots him. This visitor? Not approved. The situation? Absolutely unacceptable. Mom's good judgment? Definitely questionable.Big opinions. Zero apologies. That's Ms.Luna.
Alaskan Malamute ‘Picks up the Pace’ To Trot Home for Treat and It’s So Silly
Some dogs move through life a little slower than others. For many, this happens as they age; they just can't go as quickly as they used to. For others, though, they have always taken life a little slower. It just depends on the dog.
For the right reasons, even a slow pup might put a little pep in his step. A prime example of that is this precious Alaskan Malamute, who was on a walk when his mom mentioned going home for a treat. The speed boost wasn't much, but it definitely was there:
@duke.and.teddyHe definitely got his treat 🐶💜 #duke #alaskanmalamute #bigdog #doglover #dogmom
♬ original sound - duke.and.teddyDuke and Teddy are two dogs who have wildly different ways of life. Teddy, a Goldendoodle, moves quickly and loves to cause chaos. Duke, the Malamute, is a little less eager to get where he's going. Coupled with the fact that he's a lot heavier, he's a bit slower.
When his mom mentions the treat, he has about a 5% increase in speed overall, though about a 95% increase in excitement. He can't wait to get home to his treat, but he knows it'll taste just as good if he trots on home at his own pace.
Related: Rare Corgi-Malamute Mix’s Fluffy Cheek Is What Dreams Are Made Of
His little ears get a little floppier as he starts waddling home, too. He's so cute! He knows he always gets a treat after his walk, especially when he's a good boy who doesn't drag mom along on the leash.
This video really shows off the difference between them: Duke wants to chill. He likes light play, maybe a little bit of tug-of-war... If he's feeling crazy. His favorite toy, and one of the only ones he'll throw paws over, is his fish:
@duke.and.teddyBoy has no chill 😂 #teddy #duke #alaskanmalamute #goldendoodle #dogs
♬ Marching Little Boots - Nimai WalcottThis is so silly. Duke is usually not so direct! He really cares about his fish!
Alaskan Malamutes Are Huge DogsDuke's mom is very, very lucky that he doesn't want to run, honestly. If he did, and many Malamutes do, she would probably end up with a serious case of road rash.
Ginger Malamute standing in the sunshine.Image via Shutterstock / LeeSensei
Although Malamutes aren't classified as a giant breed, they can weigh over 100 pounds. These dogs were also literally bred for pulling, so they're incredibly physically strong and even stronger-willed. If they see something they want, they're going after it, leash or not.
Training is vital for these dogs, especially when it comes to:
- Exposure to different things, like other dogs, people, and cats, to reduce reactivity.
- Proper leash behavior (no pulling, yanking, or dropping and becoming an un-draggable heap).
- General obedience, so you can keep control of them even in moments of uncertainty.
Clearly, Duke is perfect on a leash. No pulling; just a bit of happy trotting!

Watch Adorable Foster Pittie Named Piglet Go on His First Date
It's been a little while since we checked in on our favorite little foster Pit Bull puppy named Piglet, and boy, has he grown.
He is no longer an itty-bitty, little puppy!
Now he is a big puppy, but he's still so sweet, cute, and a little wild!
And apparently, he is now noticing the opposite sex!
In a new video from the account @we.three.pitties, we see our much larger Pit Bull puppy meeting an adorably cute gray Pit Bull puppy outside.
In the caption, Piglet's foster mom writes, "My itty-bitty foster Pittie went on his first date this weekend, and this is how it went."
Like most first dates, there was some sniffing each other's butts, followed by chasing each other around a tree, and then she appeared to ditch him, but she came back, and they were reunited and had a great time!
They continued to chase each other, though Piglet would not let his new female acquaintance touch his ball (he is still only a puppy).
Looks like his first date went well!
In the caption, his mom wrote, "I think she likes him."
Yeah, Piglet!

Sassy Golden Retriever 'Tattles' on Fur Baby Brother Just Like a Human Sibling
My two dogs have a typical sibling relationship. They bicker one minute, then snuggle the next. My senior Dachshund tolerates her little Pug brother's antics and puts him in his place when she needs to, like any big sister would. He follows her around and knows she's the boss, yet loves to push her buttons. They're basically inseparable even when they drive each other crazy, like human siblings.
These two Golden Retrievers seem to have a similar dynamic, where Duke got snitched on by his little sister Leona, who clearly enjoyed tattling to mom.

♬ original sound - lifewithduke2025In the TikTok from @lifewithduke2025, Leona approached her mom with an expression on her face revealing she had some juicy intel on her big brother. Her mother knew immediately that Leona wanted to get Duke in trouble.
"She's up to something — she's a tattle tale," their mom said, then called over to the kitchen. "Dukie, what do you have, honey? Come here."
Duke must have used selective hearing because he didn't leave the kitchen. He probably knew his sister ratted him out on whatever he was doing. Finally, he emerged with a cookie sheet hanging out of his mouth.
"Duke!" his mom exclaimed. "He's got the cookie sheet! Oh my goodness, he's got the baking sheet."
The older Golden proudly brought the metal sheet over to his dog bed to snuggle with, and obviously had no intention of returning it to the kitchen any time soon.
Duke Is a Kitchen Item CollectorThere was already a large metal bowl in Duke's dog bed when he added the cookie sheet. The canine obviously enjoys gathering kitchen items rather than toys and was working on a full collection. His mom wasn't thrilled about his latest addition, but let him have it for a few minutes.
"Oh, Dukie, what are you going to do with that?" she asked as the gorgeous Golden started licking the cookie sheet, answering her question. "He shouldn't be licking that, but I'm gonna get it."

Followers cracked up at Duke's penchant for pantry products and guessed at his plans.
"Well, he already has the mixing bowl, so yes... He's going to bake," one pointed out.
"Duke is going to make some cookies," another suggested.
"He's giving you a big hint with the mixing bowl and the cookie sheet. You can't have tea without biscuits," someone remarked.
Maybe Duke's next grab will be the blender!

Little Girl Helps Disabled Parrot ‘Feel Like She's Flying’ and She’s So Happy and Flappy
Parrots are, unfortunately, some of the most commonly mistreated animals in the entire world. A lot of people just don't know what they're getting into, and the bird suffers as a result. They're also very commonly rehomed throughout their lives.
For one disabled Blue-and-Gold Macaw, landing in her forever home was the best thing that ever happened to her. Not only do they adore her and give her everything she needs, but she has an awesome new friend who helps her fly:

Scooter is about 10 years old, and she's relatively new to her forever home. They found her on Facebook when they were searching for a new cage for Polly, their Scarlet Macaw. Her first caretaker had her since she was a hatchling.

According to her, Scooter was born disfigured: though you can't really see it in that video, her legs are splayed out. She can't perch properly, and she can't walk, hence the name: Scooter.
You can see her legs better in this clip. Although her legs are splayed, she lives a very happy, full life, especially with her bestie/sister, Kambre!

Do Birds Need Their Legs to Fly?Scooter seems to have no problem flapping her wings; it even looks like she might be fully flighted! However, as her mom shows in the videos, she can't fly unless someone, preferably Kam, is holding her.
Woman holding a Macaw like a baby.Image via Shutterstock / aapsky
Bird technically do not need their legs while they're flying. Typically, they even make sure to tuck in their legs while they fly, which reduces drag and helps them stay in the air longer. However, their legs are an essential part of every other part of flight:
- They use them to push off their perch.
- They need them to land safely.
If they can't control their legs, odds are, they'll never get off the ground. Scooter can't even tuck them in, so even if she could get up in the air, she wouldn't be in the air for very long before falling flat on her beak. Luckily, Kam is always ready to help!

Orange Kitten Casually Uses a Straw Like a Tiny Human
You wake up, you expect a normal morning, maybe coffee, maybe peace, maybe 5 minutes where nothing weird is happening in your house.
And then you look over, and your kitten is drinking out of a straw like he pays bills there.
@argieandeckiesadventuresWoke up to our cat drinking out of a straw 😆 #cattok #kittensoftiktok #gingercat #funnycats #orangecatbehavior
♬ Irresistible rizz - North Valley GroupTikToker @argieandeckiesadventures shared the moment they woke up to theirOrange Kitten casually sipping from a straw, like this is something he has been practicing in secret.
And honestly, if you guessed Orange Cat, you would be correct. Of course, it is.
Related: Orange Polydactyl Kitten’s Nose Swells to the Size of a Baseball After Rare Infection
As a mom of two orange boys, I can confirm there is just something different about them. They are always getting into things, always pushing boundaries, always doing the absolute most for no reason at all. Just pure chaos, gremlin energy wrapped in fur.
People in the comments immediately related. One person wrote, “They never want their own water. Always the human water in the cup,” which is basically a universal cat rule at this point.
Another said, “Mine would just knock the glass on the floor and stare at it like it wasn’t me,” which… that level of denial is familiar.
Others fully embraced the behavior, like, “Mine now has her own cup of water on the table at all times. She loves it and stays out of mine!” which honestly feels like a reasonable compromise.
There were also the warnings, like, “Oh, he’s going to be a troublemaker!” and the simple but accurate, “Orange Cat activities,” which explains everything without explaining anything.
One of my orange boys, Meatball, would absolutely bite the straw, spill the drink, and then act confused about how it happened. Zero accountability.
Why Cats Love Drinking Out of Cups @gnocchiandbearrefuses to drink water out of anything besides his glass cup #britishlonghair #cat #persiancat #kitten #funnycat
♬ NOT CUTE ANYMORE (Sped up) - ILLITCats are naturally drawn to water sources that feel fresh, elevated, or just different from their usual bowl. A cup on a table checks all those boxes. It's higher up, it smells like you, and it feels new and interesting.
Some kitties also prefer running or “moving” water, which is why fountains are so popular. A straw adds that little bit of movement or novelty that makes it even more appealing.
There is also a curiosity factor. If you're drinking from it, it must be important. And if it is important, your cat absolutely needs to be involved.
For some kitties, switching to a fountain or even offering a designated “cat cup” can help redirect the behavior. But for others… they are going to go for your drink no matter what.

Cocker Spaniel Puppy Has the ‘Longest Legs Ever’ and It’s Hilarious
Most puppies go through a phase where their legs are just so much. They have absolutely no idea what to do with them, which typically ends up meaning they throw them around. Especially when they have big paws, they really slap those puppies against the floor.

Chihuahua Mix Heals Mom's Bad Day With the Cutest 'You OK, Sis?'
Bless the hearts of all dogs who have the impossible responsibility of consoling us when we're grief-stricken, sick, or just having one of those "blah" days where everything is annoying. Even the most dedicated pups probably get tired of dealing with our fluctuating emotions from day to day!
Cody, the Chihuahua, can relate. The gentle boy never asked to be Mom's emotional support, so when the time comes for his big gesture, he gives his almost effort, and it's too funny!
@codyandthespareones“Sorrows, sorrows..prayers.”
♬ original sound - AkiraTwin - AkiraTwinTo be fair, I think Cody is channeling most dogs who've had it with our shenanigans! The delicate paw is his way of asking, "You OK, Sis?" without directly showing too much affection (because that's embarrassing).
Maybe it's his annoyed expression or the general air of aloofness, but this Chihuahua nailed the "dog who's tired of comforting humans" experience! Some of Cody's followers sounded off about his comical way of being (sort of) there for Mom.
Related: Tiny Chihuahua's Speedy Zoomies Rival Olympic Sprinters Everywhere
"He said, 'Get somebody else to do it,'" one fan commented. "I know if he had an option, he would leave," another mused. "I love you, but not right now," another joked.
This isn't Cody's first foray into judging people, particularly Mom. Actually, it's what he's become known for. Whether she's waking him with kisses, interrupting playtime, or merely coming home too late, you can bet Cody won't be the nicest welcoming committee, but he will be right there ready to judge.
@codyandthespareonesMy bad
♬ 水膜の裏 - yasuhiro soda Chihuahuas Are Deeply Attuned to Their PeopleUnfortunately for Cody, it's in his DNA to be somewhat attuned to the humans in his house (whether he likes it or not). Chihuahuas are highly intuitive and attuned to our emotions and needs, with the gift (or curse) of being able to sense our sadness, stress, illness, or pain.
Because of this, these sensitive, affectionate, and devoted pups form intense bonds, usually with one main person. They prefer closeness to independence, which means they're inadvertently their pet parent's go-to when support or comfort is needed.
All of this to say, Cody's breed dictates some traits he may not love but has anyway. He'll have to carry the emotional support torch a little longer... reluctantly!

Foster Dog 'Growls and Barks' by Toy Bin Thanks to One 'Very Suspicious' Plushie
Rescue dogs often come with a lot of trauma due to past abuse and abandonment. It takes time for them to decompress in a new environment and begin to trust again. These fearful fur babies have phobias they have to work through and need a lot of patience and understanding.
Isabel Klee is used to the acclimation phase through her extensive work with foster dogs. Her most recent foster, Marmie, is still adjusting to her surroundings and was set off by a certain toy.
@simonsitsMarmie is VERY suspicious of the duck 🧐 @Muddy Paws Rescue
♬ Wes Anderson-esque Cute Acoustic - Kenji UedaIn the TikTok from @simonsits, Klee explained Marmie's odd reaction to the pile of toys that belongs to her fur baby brother, Simon.
"My new foster dog keeps growling and barking somewhere around Simon's toy bin," she shared as Marmie sat next to her on the couch. "I cannot figure out what she's upset by."
Klee suspected this reaction to everyday toys is due to Marmie's past trauma.
"It's so obvious that she has not experienced a lot of things in life because so many things to her are scary or weird," she remarked. "I'm gonna try to get to the bottom of this one."
Marmie stared at the basket of toys from the couch and let out some barks and growls, clearly set off by the collection. She moved down to the floor and continued her protest as Klee tried to figure out if there was one specific toy causing her stress.
Marmie Didn't Like the DuckThere was one yellow duck plushie lying on its own, away from the other toys. Klee held it up to Marmie and immediately got a reaction. When Klee moved the duck toward Marmie, she backed up to keep her distance and even hid behind the coffee table.

"Marmie is VERY suspicious of the duck," the caption explained.
"I'm sorry you don't like it," Klee said as she placed the plushie out of sight. "It's okay, it's just a toy."
Marmie had no problem playing with another toy with the duck tucked away where she couldn't see it. Slowly but surely, the precious pooch is learning to trust again and overcome her challenges.

Funny Gray Cat Guarding Kitty Door From the Local Stray Is a True Turf Warrior
There is nothing quite like a cat deciding home security is now a one-man operation, and Haku is clearly taking the assignment very seriously. In this hilarious TikTok, the gray cat has apparently reached his limit and resorted to physically guarding the cat door from a local stray like a tiny furry bouncer working the most exclusive club in town.
The caption says, “POV your cat has resorted to guarding the cat door from the stray,” and honestly, it is perfect. That is exactly the energy here. Haku is not casually hanging around. He is posted up with purpose. He looks fully committed to defending the entrance with every ounce of dramatic house-cat authority in his body.
@ceefittonguarding his house 😂 #catsoftiktok
♬ Monkeyshine-JP - Lt FitzGibbons MenAnd I have to say, their cat door is incredibly cool, which somehow makes the whole situation even funnier. This is not some random doorway standoff. This is premium cat-door real estate, and Haku clearly believes access control is his personal responsibility. You can practically hear him thinking, absolutely not, this is a private residence.
One comment absolutely nailed the mood: “He said ‘I tolerate you outside. But you ain’t comin in MY house.’” That is exactly what this looks like. Haku is not trying to be diplomatic. He is drawing a very firm line at the threshold and making it known that outside-cat privileges do not automatically include indoor access.
View this post on InstagramWhat makes the video so funny is how serious he seems. Cats have this amazing ability to make even the smallest conflict look deeply personal, and Haku is giving full turf-warrior commitment. He is not bluffing. He is not backing down. He is guarding that little door like the fate of the household depends on it.
Of course, the funniest part may be that this is apparently not the end of the story. I checked their other TikToks, and spoiler alert, the stray eventually makes it inside -- which honestly makes Haku’s dramatic defense even better in hindsight. All that security work, all that emotional investment, and eventually the intruder still gets through. A true underdog tale, depending on whose side you are on.
This clip has cat drama, territorial nonsense, a great visual setup, and the kind of personality-filled moment people immediately want to share. Haku is not just guarding a door. He is starring in a tiny domestic thriller with whiskers.
Cat Territory Is Very RealAs funny as Haku’s little standoff is, it taps into something real about cat behavior. Cats can be deeply territorial, especially around entry points, food, and favorite resting areas, so slow introductions and giving each cat space really matter. According to International Cat Care’s advice on introducing cats, gradual scent sharing, separate safe spaces, and letting cats adjust at their own pace can help reduce stress and conflict when a new cat enters the picture.
Honestly, Haku guarded that cat door like a tiny mustached landlord trying to stop an unauthorized sublet.

7 Words and Phrases That Can Confuse Your Dog, According to a Trainer
You know what you mean when you say something, but sometimes it’s easy to forget that you and your dog speak a different language. While humans are verbal, dogs pick up a lot from a person's body language and tone. Therefore, communicating with your pet can be tricky at times. Because of this, we gathered 7 words and phrases that can confuse your dog, according to a trainer. That way, you can start to eliminate those terms from your dialog with your devoted companion.
That doesn’t mean dogs can’t learn certain words and phrases over time. “There are dogs out there that have a very good understanding of what we say,” says Elisha Stynchula, CPDT-KA, certified dog trainer and owner of I Said Sit School for Dogs. For example, Chaser the Border Collie famously knew more than 1,000 words. However, she explains that's not the case for every dog, which is why you need to be more cautious with what you say when you're speaking to your pup. Because even though you may want to chat with your pooch the same way you do other humans and expect them to understand what you’re saying, they sadly won't.
But by removing certain confusing words from your vocabulary while talking to your dog, you can make your bond better. This will help you both understand each other a little better and make your relationship stronger than ever. Keep these words and phrases in mind on what not to say so your dog won't be confused by your commands any longer.

7 Words and Phrases That Can Confuse Your Dog A dog confused by something a person says.Dogs rely heavily on body language cues and consistent signals, so even common words or phrases can confuse them. By understanding which words confuse your dog and how to communicate clearly, you can strengthen trust and improve obedience. A dog trainer’s tips can help you avoid miscommunication and make sure your commands are always understood.
1. “Get off the couch.”One phrase that can confuse you dog is telling them to get off the couch. You know what you mean when you say this, and other humans do as well. But this long string of words can be tricky for dogs to follow.
How to communicate better with your dog? Instead, Stynchula says it may be more helpful to use a word like “down” or “off,” provided you aren’t using those commands in other contexts, like encouraging your pup to lie down or leave something alone.
2. “Stop that.”Can dogs understand the phrase "stop that"? Stynchula says your dog might get the message, but they also can end up confused as even simple words can be misunderstood by your pet. “I think the tone along with familiar words form a picture for the dog,” she says. ““What makes it hard for dogs is when people just nag or repeat commands, which can confuse them and make training less effective.”

3. “Come here right now.”When it comes to phrases that confuse dogs, "come here right now" is one of them, according to our expert. Stynchula says this happens because it has a few confusing elements to it. For starters, it’s a lot of words. "’Come here right now’ just sounds like you are angry and I can only imagine it being said with such a harsh tone,” Stynchula says.
So, what advice does Stynchula have as a dog trainer? “A pet peeve of many dog trainers is using ‘come’ for anything unpleasant," she notes. "Pet parents should use ‘come’ alone and it should always be followed by praise and affection.”
4. "Why did you do that?"There are several words your dog might misunderstand and this counts as one. Why? Stynchula explains that this is a complex question that, unfortunately, your dog doesn’t inherently know how to answer. In this setting, your furry companion will likely look to your body language and tone for cues. But, really, don’t expect an appropriate response as they are most likely confused when you say this.
5. Using “no” in multiple contexts. Are dogs confused by owner’s commands? Sometimes. While dogs can get a sense of “no,” this word can be confusing for pets when you’re using it in multiple situations. “What does ‘no’ really mean? Stop digging, stop jumping, stop chewing, etc.?” Stynchula asks. “One word cannot mean multiple things. in your dog's mind.” Instead, she prefers pet parents ask ther dog to do something good so they can request a known behavior and then reward their dog for doing it.
6. “You’re fine.”Dog miscommunication happens especially when you're using words or phrases that can confuse your dog. For example, if a pet owner use this phrase in the context when you're comforting your pet, they’re more likely to understand the soothing tone of your voice and gentle pats. But using the phrase inconsistently or in stressful situations can make it hard for your dog to interpret your commands, which may affect trust and responsiveness.
7. “You know better.”Phrases like “you know better” often fall into the category of nagging, which can be confusing for your dog, Stynchula says. Importantly, this phrase is unlikely to change your dog’s behavior. While your dog may understand that tearing up a toy isn’t appropriate, words like this rarely communicate clear instructions, making it hard for your dog to interpret your commands.
The Best Way to Communicate with Your DogWhether you’re training your dog or simply trying to communicate better with your fur baby, it’s important to keep communication simple and consistent. So, it’s crucial to use the same cues if you want your dog to understand you. In general, using inconsistent words, long sentences and a tone that doesn’t match what you’re trying to say is a surefire way to confuse your dog. But sometimes it helps to have clear examples of ways you’re confusing your pup. Of course, these are easy traps to fall into—we’re used to communicating with other humans, after all.

These 7 Small Pets Are Perfect for Kids And Easy to Care For
Deciding on a pet for your family is a big deal. That goes double when it comes to choosing a pet for kids. If you're considering letting your child have a cute animal to take care of, you want to make sure it's one that's a good match for their age and temperament. To help you out, we rounded up the 7 best small pets for kids that are low-maintenance and recommended by veterinarians.
While every child is different, vets generally agree that smaller animals are a good place to start if your son or daughter wants a furry companion. “A small pet can be beneficial to children in many ways,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. “Aside from being easy to care for, having small pets at home is an opportunity for kids to learn valuable skills like feeding animals, helping clean their pets’ homes and making sure the pet has access to clean water.”
Ready to add a petite pet to your crew? From the best small dogs for kids to kid-friendly cat breeds, as well as other tiny animals like birds that are great for kids and furry critters, there are tons of options. Below are the best small pets for kids, according to vets. See which one is perfect for your child.

The #1 Thing to Consider When Choosing a Pet for Your ChildThere’s so much more to finding the perfect pet than looks. “When choosing a pet for a child, parents should prioritize a sturdy, forgiving temperament and be highly realistic about their family's daily bandwidth,” says Kate Elden, DVM, chief medical officer at Dutch. “The best pet is one whose care requirements actually match your child's real-life attention span, setting everyone up for a successful, positive experience and stress-free bond.”
It's also important to ensure that you’re supervising care, too. “As much as parents want to give their kids freedom to care for their own pets, they also need to remember that kids need guidance in ensuring the welfare of the animal and making sure the kids handle them with proper care,” Warner says.
Best Small Pets for Kids That Are Easy to Care ForGuinea pigs A kid-friendly Guinea pig being pet by a child. If you are on the hunt for a small pet for kids, don't forget about these cute animals! These little guys are incredibly adorable and fun, for adults and kids. “Guinea pigs are considered to be one of the best small pets that can be kept by families,” Warner says. “They are very social animals that are easy to handle.”
Guinea pigs are expressive, too, making different sounds that kids get excited about, Warner says. Just something to keep in mind, per Warner: “Guinea pigs need to be kept in pairs, allowing the family to take part in their care alongside their child.”
Dogs A young boy playing with a small dog.You have your pick of kid-friendly dog breeds to choose from as well. “A smaller dog breed can be an ideal companion for children, especially because dogs are known to form close relationships with their owners,” Warner says. “Dogs are also likely to enjoy playing with children, which can be very beneficial for kids.”
Warner stresses that the temperament of the dog, regardless of its size, is the most important when choosing a pooch for a child. “There are certain breeds that are more ideal like Cavalier King Charles Spaniels,” she says. Still, positive interactions are what matter most when it comes to dogs and kids, according to Chyrle Bonk, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. “This may be easier to do with a smaller dog because the size of a large or even medium breed dog can be intimidating and hard to manage,” she says. “Even if the dog is nothing more than friendly and playful, a large body that’s jumping around and asking for playtime can be scarier than a smaller dog offering the same thing.”
Cats A cat sitting on a child's lap.Getty Images Catherine McQueen
It's no surprise that cats are thought of as one of the best pets for kids. While every cat breed is different, some are considered better cat breeds for families than others. “Cats are great for cultivating responsibility in children because they give kids something to take care of but without needing too much,” Bonk says. “Kids can have regular chores related to the cat, but they don’t tend to be as demanding as those required with a dog.”
Some breeds, like short-haired cats, don’t require as much grooming, making them a good choice, she says. Of course, good cat etiquette is crucial. “For cats in general, owners need to teach their child how to respect boundaries, which means there might be instances where they don't want to play or interact,” Warner says.

Rabbits A child with a small bunny as a pet.Another easy-to-care-for pet that you can consider getting for your child is a rabbit. Warner calls rabbits “very good pets for children,” especially when it comes to slightly older kids who understand the importance of handling them with care. “Rabbits are very intelligent animals that are inclined to enjoy playing with their owners,” Warner notes. You can even find bunny breeds that act lke dogs and cats.
Just keep in mind that rabbits can be easily scared because they’re not as aggressive as other animals and they need to follow a strict diet to stay happy and healthy. “Their nutritional needs are also specific and incorrect feeding can lead to many health problems,” Warner says.
Rats A pet rat on a child's shoulder. There are so many amazing small pets for kids and rats are surprisingly one vets suggest. In fact, vets say rats are an “underrated” pet, especially when it comes to families with kids, according to Warner. “Rats are very intelligent animals that are inclined to enjoy playing with children and can be trained,” she says.
Because rats are social animals, Warner says it’s important to keep them in pairs if you end up going with these pets. “It's best to get two of these for pets instead of one because they are known to enjoy playing with each other,” she explains.
Hamsters A kid-friendly small pet being held by a girl.Getty Images Sol de Zuasnabar Brebbia
When it comes to low-maintenance pets for kids, a hamster is one vets recommend as well. “Hamsters are good pets for children since they are small, easy to care for and very interesting to watch as they interact with their environment,” Warner says. These petite pets enjoy running on wheels and making nests, which makes them “very interesting to observe,” Warner says.
Just be aware that while hamsters are kid-friendly pets, they are also nocturnal animals. “They are most active during the night and shouldn’t be disturbed too much in the day,” Warner says. However, if you don't mind that, then they make great small pets for kids.
Parakeets A kid with a pet bird.If you're looking for a kid-friendly pet, a parakeet is one! Commonly referred to as budgies, these small animals are a great choice for kids who are interested in birds, according to Warner. “They are very intelligent and social animals,” she says. “They seem to enjoy interacting with their owners. Some even learn to mimic some words or make some sounds.”
Pet parakeets do need regular interaction, though. “If one can provide this pet with enough interaction, they will make very lively and lovely pets for their children,” Warner says.

Dogs at Day Care Meet Their Mini-Me Twins and It’s Double the Cute
You know that feeling when you see someone who looks exactly like you and your brain just kind of short-circuits for a second? Like, wait… is that me? Do I know you? Should we be concerned???
Now imagine being a dog and suddenly running into your exact fluffy duplicate just sitting there like this is totally normal behavior. No warning. No explanation. Just boom, another you, same face, same vibe, possibly same questionable life choices.

♬ BIRDS OF A FEATHER - Billie EilishThe ridiculously adorable TikTok video, shared by @peli.roja.pets, shows dogs at day care being introduced to their “mini me” twins. And I am not exaggerating when I say some of these dogs look IDENTICAL. Like copy-paste. Like someone hit duplicate in a dog editor and forgot to tell anyone.
Related: Golden Retriever Siblings Look Like 'Before and After' Thanks to Muddy Mischief
They sit them down next to each other, and the reactions range from polite curiosity to immediate best friend energy. One dog literally puts his arm around the other like, “Yeah, this is my guy now,” and I cannot emotionally process that. Another pair just locks in like they’ve known each other since kindergarten, and this is a reunion moment.
The comments were just as unwell as the rest of us.
“The first one was IDENTICAL.”
“As they say… twinning is winning.”
“The way Koda held Winnie.”
And then, of course, the emotional spiral.
“If heaven doesn’t look like this, then I don’t wanna go.”
Honestly same. Just rows of dogs meeting their clones and immediately deciding to share a personality. Talk about cuteness overload.
How To Find a Great Day Care for Your Dog Dogs at daycare.Image Via: rosemaryandpine/Shutterstock
Videos like this are actually a great sign of a well-run day care, because you can tell the staff really knows the dogs and is paying attention to their personalities, behavior, and comfort levels. When a day care is confident enough to share moments like this, it usually means the pups are happy, safe, and genuinely enjoying their time there.
When looking for a day care, you want to find a place that prioritizes supervision, clean spaces, and structured play. Staff should be attentive and trained in reading dog body language, not just letting chaos happen and hoping for the best.
It is also important that dogs are grouped appropriately by size, temperament, and energy level, so everyone has a good experience, and no one feels overwhelmed.
And if they happen to help your dog find their long-lost twin while they are there, honestly... that is just a bonus.

Tabby Cat Stealing Mom's Easter Basket Is the Cutest Little Thief
'Tis the season to celebrate Easter, and this includes cats!
Some cats are particularly enthusiastic about this holiday (even though it revolves around bunnies, not cats), as we see in this new video from the account @lokidoestricks.
Loki is a Tabby cat who is super passionate about Easter, so much so that he decided to steal an Easter basket.
How can you blame him? Easter baskets are usually colorful, made of high-quality material for scratching, and full of treats and toys.
How is the kitty supposed to resist?
In the video, we see Loki quickly running across the floor (but not too fast, as you can tell he is proud of his work and wants to show off) with an Easter basket in tow.
His mom wrote in the video caption, "I left the Easter basket I was making alone for 2 minutes, and he sped up as he ran past me."
Two minutes is more than enough time for Loki!
@lokidoestricksand he sped up as he ran past me😭
♬ original sound - The Loki ShowNow that is one stealth cat!
The Easter Bunny certainly doesn't have moves like that!
The comments, as you can imagine, were quite funny.
One person wrote, “Well, this is obviously for me, so I’ll just take this.”
Another wrote, "A tisket, a tasket, the cat stole my basket."
His cat sibling, however, doesn't care as much for Easter, as seen in the video below, in which his mom tries to get him to wear bunny ears, and he is not into it.
In fact, he swats at them and runs away.
Maybe he is more of a Christmas cat!
@lokidoestricksReplying to @dugie57 he said no
♬ original sound - The Loki Show Why Do Cats Like To Steal Things? So you may be wondering why Loki stole the Easter basket?
Well, cats like to steal things because they like to play with stuff (and this basket looked like it would be very fun for a kitty to play with), and they like attention.
Stealing that Easter basket was accomplished as his mom had to chase him to get it back.

Doodle Mid-Groom Looks Like a Walking Throw Rug
There is something about a mid-groom moment that feels a little wild, no matter what, but this one is on another level. You think you are about to see a normal grooming update and then… your brain has to catch up to what is happening.
Because this is not a finished look. This is a situation. This is a throw rug. That started running.
@kayliebrNo one can stop me 🙃#doodleshave #doggrooming #dogshave #matting #fyp
♬ original sound - warnerbrosanzTikTok user @kayliebr shared a clip of a black-and-white Doodle halfway through a groom, with the top half shaved down and the bottom half still fully… existing. The result is a dog who looks like two completely different animals at once, running around a salon covered in loose fur like nothing unusual is happening.
The caption reads, “Don’t shave him, we brush him every day,” which… I mean. Respectfully. No, you don’t. Absolutely not.
Related: DIY Groom Turns Goldendoodle Into a Recently Divorced Dad
The difference between the groomed sections and the untouched coat tells the whole story, and honestly, the dog looks like he was feeling way better once some of that weight came off.
People in the comments were losing it. One person asked, “Why is the carpet moving?” which is exactly what it looks like. Another wrote, “What did they brush him with, hopes and dreams?” and that one really stuck.
Some comments were more understanding of the reality, like, “You can tell he feels so much better,” which feels important to remember here. Others still appreciated the pup underneath it all, saying, “Those spots are pretty under all that fur, too. Still a downright gorgeous dog.”
@kayliebrPart 2 for the after effect! What a guy ❤️🐶 #matteddog #rescue #doggrooming #fyp #doodle
♬ original sound - thebraleyfamilyAnd then there was, “I want an Afghan Hound so badly, but I know I could never keep up with that coat,” which… yeah. This video might be your sign to really think that through.
Also, quick aside: Grooming videos like this always remind me how quickly things can get out of control if you miss even a little bit of maintenance. It sneaks up on you. Not that um, I would know or anything (I actually would. My Maine Coon needs constant grooming.).
What To Do if Your Dogs Gets Mats A relaxed Golden Retriever getting brushed.Image: sonsart via Shutterstock
If your dog develops mats in their coat, the most important thing is not to try to pull or cut them out yourself without knowing what you're doing. Mats can be tight against the skin, and trying to remove them improperly can cause pain or even injury.
The best first step is to assess the severity of the matting. Small, loose tangles can sometimes be gently worked out with a slicker brush or detangling tool, ideally with a conditioning spray to reduce pulling.
However, if the mats are dense, widespread, or close to the skin, it is safest to take your pup to a professional groomer. In many cases, shaving is the most humane option to remove severe matting quickly and comfortably.
Going forward, regular brushing is key, especially for breeds like Doodles who have thick, curly coats prone to tangling. Daily or near-daily brushing, along with routine grooming appointments, can prevent matting from happening again.

Rescue Dog Considered 'Too Old and Sick' Transforms Into 'Perfect' Pooch'
Niall Harbison continues to change the lives of street dogs through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. He shares many of their triumphant stories on social media, highlighting the bravery and resilience of these courageous canines.
The animal advocate recently rescued a senior dog in poor health who proved that she has plenty of life left to live.
View this post on InstagramThe sweet senior pooch, whom Harbison named Dolly Parton, was abandoned "because she was no longer perfect". She was brought to Happy Doggo by a local resident who saw the dog desperately needed help. Dolly was literally shaking in fear and needed medical attention.
“She’s very old and her fur is pretty much all gone from the thousands of ticks and fleas sucking her blood,” Harbison shared when she first came to the rescue. “She’s very sick and she also has a major leg trauma. Who knows how long the little girl has been out on the streets, battling to stay alive.”
Even with those challenges, Dolly maintained a kind and loving heart and welcomed human touch. Now after five weeks of medical care and plenty of love and affection from Harbison and the Happy Doggo team, Dolly is thriving. The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo showed the canine cutie joyfully prancing around with a literal spring in her step.
"To some, she was 'too old' and to others, she was 'too sick'," the caption read. "But after a kind soul scooped her up and brought her to us, this 'imperfect' girl found her spark again."

Cockatoo Gives Mom Sweet Nuzzles of Love While Reuniting After Vacation
Some reunion videos are cute. This one is full-body emotional.
In the clip, Carmen the Cockatoo greets his mom after she has been away for 12 days, and the welcome-home nuzzles are so sweet they almost do not feel real. He leans in with that soft, affectionate little energy that makes you instantly understand why people are completely obsessed with these two. Who would not want a reunion like that?
@carmenthechickenOh my sweet Carmen #hopecore #fyp #birdsoftiktok #cockatoo
♬ What Was I Made For? (Epilogue) [Instrumental Version] - Mark Ronson & Andrew WyattThere is something especially touching about how gentle it feels. Carmen is not just excited. He is tender. The nuzzles read like pure relief, pure love, and a little bit of “finally, where have you been?” all at once. It is the kind of moment that makes you stop scrolling and watch again immediately.
And honestly, their story makes it hit even harder.
Alexis works at a zoo as a zookeeper, and she rescued Carmen after he had been isolated for 20 years. Knowing that makes every sweet interaction between them feel even bigger. This is not just a bird being cute on camera. This is trust. This is healing. This is what patient love can look like after a long time without enough of it.
That's part of why their videos feel so special. They're the kind of thing people can feel proud to watch and support. Carmen is clearly cherished, and it shows in every little nuzzle. We are big fans for a reason.
Also, I have to say, if my dog Lola had to share attention with a talking animal, she would absolutely lose her mind for at least a little while. She would be deeply offended, highly vocal, and probably conduct a full investigation. But I do think she would ultimately support the mission, especially if it meant helping an animal who needed love this much.
That is what makes Carmen and Alexias so easy to root for. Their bond feels earned. It feels soft in a world that can be pretty rough. And when you watch Carmen greet her after nearly two weeks apart, it does not just look like a pet happy to see a person. It looks like someone safe finally coming back.
No wonder people love them. No wonder the videos keep landing. This is the kind of reunion that reminds you how powerful care can be, especially for an animal who has every reason to guard his heart and still chooses love anyway.
Trust Can Grow Back BeautifullyCarmen’s reunion is a lovely reminder that rescued animals do not just need food and shelter; they need consistency, safety, and time to build trust. With parrots, especially, gentle routines, patient handling, and regular interaction can make a huge difference. VCA notes that parrots often bond closely with people and, when well-socialized and handled often, can become very interactive and affectionate, even actively seeking petting and closeness.
That is why stories like Carmen’s matter. They show what can happen when an animal who has known isolation finally gets the chance to feel secure, seen, and loved.
Honestly, Carmen welcomed her home like a feathery little husband who had been checking the driveway for 12 straight business days.
