1968 Western Whose Hero Never Speaks Named Greatest Ending of All Time
More than 50 years after its release, The Great Silence continues to surprise audiences discovering it for the first time. The 1968 Spaghetti Western has earned a reputation as one of the boldest and most influential films in the genre, thanks to its haunting snow-covered setting, morally complex storytelling, and one of the most unforgettable endings in movie history. A new ranking naming it the greatest Western ending of all time is the latest recognition for a film whose reputation has only grown with time.
Why The Great Silence Stands Apart From Other WesternsDirected by Sergio Corbucci, The Great Silence broke nearly every convention audiences associated with Westerns. In lieu of a scorching desert, the film takes place in the snow-covered mountains of Utah during the winter, creating an atmosphere unlike almost any other Western before or since.
At the center of the story is Silence, a mute gunslinger played by Jean-Louis Trintignant. Communicating almost entirely through expressions and actions rather than dialogue, Silence became one of the genre's most distinctive heroes. Opposite him is Klaus Kinski as the ruthless bounty hunter Loco, whose chilling performance helped cement the film's reputation as one of the darkest Westerns ever made.
Why Critics Consider The Great Silence a MasterpieceMany classic Westerns celebrate justice ultimately prevailing, but The Great Silence intentionally challenges those expectations. Having grown tired of the conventional Spaghetti Western formula in which good always triumphs over evil, Corbucci crafted a story that explores greed, corruption, violence, and the abuse of power, creating a morally ambiguous world where the lines between good and evil are never easily defined.
The film's bleak tone, breathtaking cinematography, and willingness to subvert audience expectations have earned it widespread critical acclaim over the decades. Multiple endings were originally filmed, including a more traditional happy ending, but many modern critics consider the film's chilling original conclusion to be the key reason it remains a masterpiece.
The Lasting Impact of The Great SilenceAlthough The Great Silence was released in Europe in 1968, it remained largely unseen by American audiences for decades before receiving a proper U.S. release in 2001. As its reputation grew, so did its influence on filmmakers around the world.
Directors including Quentin Tarantino have openly praised the film, with its fingerprints visible in modern Westerns that embrace morally complex characters and darker storytelling. Its striking visual style, unconventional setting, and uncompromising narrative helped redefine what a Western could be, ensuring that The Great Silence remains one of the genre's most influential and enduring films.

Drew Barrymore Shares 'Raw And Vulnerable' Behind-the-scenes Moment From 'Never Been Kissed'
Drew Barrymore is reflecting on her time on the Never Been Kissed set â specifically during one infamous scene.
During a break of her talk show, an audience member told the actress, "I do your Never Been Kissed dance all the time" and proceeded to do the dance move from the scene where Barrymore, who played Josie Gellar, a journalist posing as a high school student, danced on stage at a nightclub after accidentally eating a marijuana-laced brownie.
"Talk about raw and vulnerable," Barrymore recalled of the scene. "We were filming that scene. It was in front of Jessica Alba and James Franco and Seth Rogen, all these really cool kids, and there I was like, doing that, and I felt so uncool."
View this post on InstagramHowever, the actress explained "that is the point of the film."
"We all feel like such a geeky, dweeby, uncool, unsexy dork sometimes, and I just wanted to embody that because it doesn't escape anybody's journey," she continued. "The minute you're out to make a specific impression, sometimes it goes the other way."
The film, which she said she "loved getting to do" because "it was so true to the human experience," was released in 1999 and also starred David Arquette and Leelee Sobieski. While Barrymore mentioned Rogen in her story, he did not star in the film.

Previously speaking about the film, Barrymore once explained that it was a high-pressure situation because "I knew if it didnât work, we werenât going to get another chance. We had so much fun making it. It was the best time ever, but I had a clenched stomach the whole time," she recalled in 2024.
She also shared that the studio heads told her she was looking "too unattractive," to which Barrymore said "Good!" to serve the purpose of the movie.
"And then they were like, 'It's too far' ... and they said something that appealed to my sensibilities rather than my ego, they were like, 'We donât want you to lose the heart because youâre going so far for the comedy.â
"So what you see there is me dialed back," she joked of her character's appearance.

Legendary Rocker Calls This 1988 Album the âPerfect Recordâ
Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters was recently asked to name a âperfect recordâ in an interview with BBC 6 Music. He ended up praising the 1988 album, Surfer Rosa, from the Pixies.
âI love that record so much for a lot of reasons,â Grohl said, as reported by Billboard. âOne, that it was produced by the almighty Steve Albini. And it was maybe the first album to become popular and showcase his incredible engineering sonic technique.â

Grohl continued, â[Black Francis], the singer of the Pixies, was an amazing lyricist. His lyrics were just⊠they kind of teetered back and forth from abstract intellectual to things that just sounded so absurd and almost like dumb in a way. His voice and Kim Deal, their two voices together, it was just such a wonderful blend. And it was unusual at the time. They really did sort of coin this specific dynamic, and the simplicity of it was really powerful.â
He concluded by saying, âThat record Iâve probably listened to 10,000 times, and I still love it. I could still listen to it every day.â
Grohl named some of his other favorite albums in an interview withFar Out Magazine. They included the White Album by The Beatles, Coda by Led Zeppelin, Rock for Light by Bad Brains, Gluey Porch Treatments by Melvins, Yo! Bum Rush the Show by Public Enemy, The Winding Sheet by Mark Lanegan, Blues for the Red Sun by Kyuss, Frank Blackâs self-titled album, and The B-52âs self-titled album.

Grohl also included the Pixies album in his list and said, âIt was so necessary at that time for someone to incorporate elements of quirky, weird punk into sweet pop. It influenced a whole generation of bands, which then influenced a whole generation, so this album is probably one of the most influential albums of the last 15 years. It probably made Steve Albini most famous for his production, too. Nirvana always made sure everyone knew we were just ripping off the Pixies.â
The Foo Fighters released their twelfth studio album, Your Favorite Toy, in April of this year. It is available now.
Penelope Cruz Reveals Her 'Many' Brain Aneurysm Scares
Penélope Cruz is advocating for increased research into women's health issues as the actress reveals she's suffered "many" brain aneurysm "scares" over the years.
The Invite actress, 52, addressed previous reports that she had a close call with a brain aneurysm while filming her upcoming film The Black Ball during a new interview with Porter magazine.
"I have had many scares like that," Cruz said in the profile, published on Monday, July 6. "Fortunately, Iâm fine, it was a false alarm."
Symptoms of a potential brain aneurysm can include a sudden, severe headache, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, loss of consciousness, and confusion, as per the Mayo Clinic.
"I worry about staying healthy, taking care of myself," Cruz continued. "I donât drink, I donât smoke, I really donât party. Without health, we have nothing. You talk about real equality? Why donât we start with health?"
The Oscar-winning actress pointed out that women's health issues are under-researched in comparison to issues that primarily impact men.
"Itâs shocking that over decades, weâve stuck to the same information about how womenâs bodies work," she explained. "Look at funding for investigation into any illness that affects only womenâwe donât get even half the investment. It is a level of control or suppression."
Cruz first shared the news of her brain aneurysm scare during The Black Ball's Cannes premiere in May, revealing that a doctor broke the news after she began experiencing concerning symptoms.
"Weâre about to go out, I was putting on my wig, and they said, âOh, apparently you have some brain aneurysm,â" she recalled during the filmâs festival screening, as per Variety. "I thought I was about to die. This is something that was totally surreal in my life."
While the aneurysm diagnosis ended up being a false alarm, Cruz said the ordeal made her role in the film as cabaret dancer Nené even more real to her. "You experience these things together, yet despite all this, despite the hardship, you can move forward in life," she said.

'80s Rock Icons Suddenly Score Biggest Chart Debut of Their Career 45 Years After Forming
Nearly 30 years after it debuted atop the Billboard 200, Reload is making chart history all over again.
The 1997 Metallica album has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart for the week dated July 11, marking the highest debut on that ranking of the band's career. At the same time, Reload has re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 16, nearly three decades after its original release.
Metallica formed in 1981, and over the past 45 years the band has become one of the most commercially successful acts in rock history. While Reload originally debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in November 1997, the album never had the opportunity to appear on Billboard's standalone Top Hard Rock Albums chart because the ranking did not exist at the time. The newly released super deluxe reissue has now given the album a new milestone to add to its lengthy résumé.
Originally released on Nov. 18, 1997, Reload served as the follow-up to 1996's Load. The two albums were largely recorded during the same sessions with producer Bob Rock after Metallica initially considered releasing the material as a double album before deciding to split it into two separate records.
The album showcased the band's continued evolution beyond its thrash metal roots, embracing a more hard rock-oriented sound while still delivering some of the era's biggest songs. It produced the hit singles "The Memory Remains," featuring Marianne Faithfull, "The Unforgiven II" and "Fuel," while also becoming the final Metallica studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted.
Commercially, Reload was a major success from the start. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after selling more than 436,000 copies in its first week and ultimately spent 76 weeks on the chart. It has since been certified 4Ă Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and reached No. 1 in seven countries.
Although Reload received mixed reviews upon release, critics generally praised the band's musicianship while debating whether the material could have been combined with Load into a single album. In a review of the 2026 deluxe edition, Rolling Stone argued that despite criticism over the years, the expanded set demonstrates "when Metallica lost themselves, they found themselves more truly and more strange. And they will never sound that way again."
The album's return to the charts comes just weeks after the release of its expansive super deluxe box set on June 26, which includes a newly remastered version of the album along with demos, live recordings, rough mixes and previously unreleased material. The renewed interest has propelled Reload back into the upper reaches of the Billboard 200 while giving the band a brand-new No. 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
For a band that has spent decades setting commercial records, it's a fitting twist that one of Metallica's biggest chart milestones arrived not in the 1990s, but 45 years after the group first came together in 1981.

Barbara Eden Says Hollywood Executives Used Elvis for Money
Barbara Eden believes that Elvis Presley's talents were exploited by Hollywood executives who were looking to make money off of his star power.
The 94-year-old actress, best known for her titular role on the classic sitcomI Dream of Jeannie, co-starred alongside Presley in the 1960 Western film Flaming Star. Eden played Presley's love interest in the film, which featured the singer as a half-white, half-Native American man attempting to keep the peace in his Texas community, much to his own detriment.
It was one of the most unique of Presley's 33 feature films, as Flaming Star was much more dramatic and less musical than films like G.I. Blues and Love Me Tender. It also didn't perform as well at the box office as the romantic musicals for which Presley became known, which Eden believes led to a stymying of his acting career.
"He was good. He was good in that movie," Eden told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published on Friday, July 3, conducted at the Project Angel Food's Lead With Love telethon. "I think all they did was use him to get the money."
"They didn't think about his career or how talented [he was] â my God. He was wonderful, and he was wonderful singing," she continued.
Eden also revealed that years after Flaming Star debuted, she reunited with Presley when they were both performing on the Las Vegas Strip. "I went to the hotel in between my shows. Oh my God⊠you walked in, and there was the thrumming of those guitars, and it was just â gives me goosebumps, even now, to talk about it," she recalled.
Eden has always spoken fondly of her time working with Presley on Flaming Star, telling PEOPLEÂ last year, "I remember how good he was. He was a fine actor. This was a part that required good acting, and he did it, boy," adding, "I just think people didn't recognize or appreciate what a fine actor he was, and a lovely, lovely man."
1973 No. 1 Hit by âThe 5th Beatleâ Became a Timeless Dance Song
âWill It Go Round in Circlesâ was a Billy Preston song from his 1972 album, Music Is My Life, which was released as a single in 1973. Even though the song was featured on the seventh album that he released, the song was his very first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It sold over a million copies.
When speaking about "Will It Go Round in Circles," one fan on YouTube said, âThis is why George Harrison and The Rolling Stones invited Billy to tour with them. Infectious energy.â Another said, âOne of the few '70s dance songs that still holds up. Billy did not live long enough to get the adulation he deserved. I think it would have happened with the release of The Beatles: Get Back movie, which in part showed Billy's impact on the band in the songs âGet Backâ and âDon't Let Me Down.ââ
Preston went on to have another hit with the song âNothing from Nothing.â He is also credited as playing the piano on âGet Backâ by The Beatles. In the documentary, Billy Preston: That's the Way God Planned It, John Lennon can be heard saying that Preston is "kind of like a fifth Beatle."
Over the course of his career, Preston toured with some icons, including George Harrison from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. When speaking about the shows in a 1975 interview, he said, âI like a livelier show, and the Stones are much livelier than George. Although I enjoyed playing on the Harrison tour, this one is more fun, faster paced and more of a rock and roll thing.â
Related: 1963 Surf Rock Classic, Written by Teenagers in 10 Minutes, Remained on the Charts for 4 Months
Preston continued, âThe Stones are a lot more R&B-oriented. It feels like Iâve been playing with them for years. Weâre a family. All the guys are hanging out together and definitely getting off on each other. Keith [Richards] is really enjoying playing with Ronnie [Wood]. This time around, people are a lot happier. The music isnât as laid-back, and Keith and Ronnie are really clicking. The band is doing a lot of things theyâve never done in America. Itâs been a pretty good tour so far, not nearly as exhausting as the last few Iâve done.â
In 2021, Preston was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He died in 2006 at the age of 59.
1980 Rock Show Was Unexpectedly the Final Time a Legendary '70s Band Shared a Stage
By the time 1980 rolled around, Led Zeppelin had reached god-like status. The band had released eight studio albums, traveled the world, and effectively changed rock history as we know it. That isn't to say the band was without its sorrowful times up to that point, either.
In 1975, lead singer Robert Plant and his family were involved in a nearly fatal car crash where his wife, Maureen, sustained several serious injuries and Plant himself broke his ankle. Around this time, guitarist Jimmy Page was battling a severe and out-of-control heroin addiction. In 1977, Plant suffered a devastating loss after his five-year-old son, Karac, died from a sudden stomach infection. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Plant was on tour when he received the news that his son was sick, and sadly, before he could make arrangements to get home, Karac had tragically died. By the late '70s, drummer John Bonham was battling a health crisis fueled by alcoholism.
When their 1980 European tour kicked off, it went about as poorly as anything could go. In June of that year, Bonham collapsed on stage during their third song in Nuremberg, Germany. While the official reason the band claimed was that he "ate too many bananas" that day, many have speculated it was intoxication that caused him to black out.
Inside Led Zeppelin's Final 1980 Concert in West BerlinDays later, on July 7, 1980, the band concluded the tour in West Berlinâs Eissporthalle with a stripped-down performance that rocked the socks off concertgoers. According to Rolling Stone, their final show included the traditional opening with "Train Kept A-Rollin'" and closed with a 17-minute-long version of their 1969 epic hit, "Whole Lotta Love."
On September 25, 1980, the world would lose Bonham forever. He reportedly took 40 shots of vodka that evening, which ultimately killed him. By December of that year, Zeppelin officially called it quits. They never performed as the original foursome after that July 7th night.
Robert Plant Reflects on the Lasting Legacy of Drummer John BonhamPlant always spoke about Bonham with a lot of affection; after all, they had been friends before forming Led Zeppelin, and the drummer and his wife were crutches for Plant to lean on after his son's death. Professionally, Plant thought the world of his playing ability. In 2020, Plant opened up to Rolling Stone about how he is still dealing with the loss of his longtime friend.
"Iâm still living in the area where we were both from, so heâs present and with me quite a lot," Plant sweetly confessed. "A lot of people knew him, like they know me. We havenât gone very far, apart from a couple of sad adventures. So heâs still very present here, and itâs ironically with local people. Itâs just his actual physical presence and his personality thatâs remembered, but when you start listening to what he did and his contribution to the world of rhythm and drumming, he transcended all those other players, because he and Jonesy [Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones] gave the whole thing so much class, so much feel, that it really did bring us a deal of separation between Led Zeppelin and a lot of the other stuff that was around at the time, because those two guys had a crucial way of working. So yeah, itâs 40 years, and heâs still greatly lost from us, far and gone. But Iâm looking up into the cloudy sky of the nighttime here. Iâm sure heâs standing outside a pub somewhere, metaphorically, cracking a joke."

For six years, the band has continued to push creative boundaries, giving fans a distinctive musical experience.

'Below Deck Med' Fans Have the Ultimate Ick After Luke and Gen Leave Nathan With an Awful Surprise
Below Deck Mediterranean crossed into serious ick territory during Monday's episode when Luke Brumer and Genevieve Lillie used Nathan Gallagher's bed for a late-night hookupâthen left behind a discovery that viewers found downright disgusting.
The drama unfolded after Luke and Gen first spent the night together in his bunk. With Nathan off the yacht visiting his family and son, Gen later climbed into Nathan's bed to sleep. The next morning, Luke quietly joined her there to continue their rendezvousâonly to leave behind an unwelcome surprise.
Rather than immediately changing the sheets, the pair scrambled to keep their hookup under wraps. Luke was later shown hovering around the laundry room, waiting for a chance to wash Nathan's bedding before anyone noticed. The attempted cover-up only made the situation more cringe-worthy, with many viewers saying the entire ordeal gave them the "ick."
The Above Deck podcast hosts echoed what many viewers were thinking when they commented on Below Deck's Instagram post, "That was a heck of an episode!" Judging by the flood of reactions, plenty of fans agreed.
View this post on InstagramAnother person wrote, "Episode has arrived and so has the carnage" with several people expressing how grossed out they were with the drama. Several people were horrified by what transpired with one person suggesting that production should have stepped in. "I honestly think production should have stepped in and said something. That is just nasty and disgusting. Gutter behaviour. And what if Gael and baby had come the next day and the baby was laid on the bed. Absolutely abhorrent."
Luke posted a few photos shortly after the episode aired, writing, "We walked down the stairs reenacting the 'shame' scene from Game of Thrones. Shame is a heavy thing to carry. Donât carry it for too long, learn from it and level up. Peace my little G wagons!"
Gen also posted, leaning into the cringe of it all. "Episode 5, I have no words⊠except I love these guests and hereâs my garden party set up," she wrote on Instagram.
As if the episode wasn't messy enough, it ended with a major miscommunication. Gen thought Luke had moved on from Chef Joy Lefaucheur, while Luke believed he'd made it obvious he wasn't interested in her. Looking to Retire Abroad? This Quiet European City Was Just Ranked the World's Most Welcoming Expat Hub
The daydream of packing it all up and spending your retirement years abroad is easily one of the most popular second-act fantasies in America.
Whether you're actively eyeing a lower cost of living, looking for better healthcare or just want to spend your days drinking espresso in a sunny European square, the idea of becoming an expat sounds like the ultimate reward after decades of the daily grind.
But as any seasoned traveler will tell you, there is a massive difference between spending a blissful week on vacation and actually trying to build a life in a foreign country. In fact, according to a brand-new global report from international health insurance specialists William Russell, the single biggest mistake people make when planning an overseas relocation is assuming that a popular tourist destination automatically guarantees an easy transition.
Instead, the study argues that your long-term happiness hinges on one major factor: how welcomed you actually feel by the locals.

View this post on InstagramTo find the worldâs most welcoming cities for expats, researchers crunched the numbers on everything from local happiness and comprehensive safety data to social frictionâspecifically measuring how worried newcomers are about facing public insults or social tension. And the number-one city on the list might come as a major surprise, especially since it routinely gets a reputation for being a bit reserved.
ZĂŒrich, Switzerland officially locked down the top crown as the most welcoming city on the globe for expats, scoring a massive 9.06 out of 10.
While Switzerland is famous for its breathtaking alpine views and chocolate, it isn't usually the first place people think of when they imagine warm, outgoing local culture. However, the data proves that ZĂŒrich delivers where it actually matters for retirees and newcomers: absolute peace of mind. The city paired a world-class safety score with remarkably low levels of social friction, meaning expats can navigate daily life, use public transit, and build community without the low-grade anxiety or baseline hassles that plague other major global hubs.

Following closely behind the Swiss capital is a tie for the number-two spot, split between Singapore and Tokyo, Japan. Tokyoâs high ranking is particularly fascinating because Japan actually ranked dead last overall in the report's national integration index due to its complex visa paths and smaller migrant population. Yet, much like ZĂŒrich, Tokyo acts as a highly accessible urban sanctuary that completely redefines personal safety and community respect for outsiders.
Rounding out the top five are Copenhagen, Denmarkâwhich claimed the highest overall happiness score in the entire indexâand Munich, Germany.
If you're currently sitting at your kitchen table looking at a map and weighing your options, the index offers a fantastic checklist of cities where the infrastructure is practically built to help you settle in without the standard bureaucratic headaches.
Prague in the Czech Republic took the number-six spot as a culturally rich European gem, followed by the zero-income-tax haven of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates at number seven. Warsaw, Poland landed at number eight, offering a highly secure gateway to the EU at a fraction of Western Europe's price tag, while Seoul, South Korea and Hong Kong rounded out the top ten.
"The first few months are when most challenges arise, such as navigating healthcare systems and securing a stable income," notes William Cooper, Director at William Russell. "Preparing for those early stages is often more important than the choice of destination."
Ultimately, whether you are seriously mapping out a retirement move to a quiet European pocket or just love the idea of keeping your options open, the data is a great reminder that the best places to grow old aren't just about the weatherâthey're about finding a community that keeps the welcome mat rolled out.

49 Years Ago Today, a Legendary Rock Band Pulled Off a Wild Stunt to Release Their Most Iconic Album
In the mid-1970s, one legendary band realized their greatest weapon wasn't on the radioâit was right there on the calendar.
Exactly 49 years ago today, Styx gambled on an album release by making it into a legendary, triple-number event that would permanently carve itself into rock history.  Their sixth album The Grand Illusion, was released on July 7, 1977, or 7-7-77. ,
The LP was produced by the band and engineered by Barry Mraz and Rob Kingsland, as reported in a blog post on the website Styxworld. According to the post, The Grand Illusion reached No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and spawned two hit songs, âCome Sail Awayâ and âFooling Yourself.â
The release date was reportedly chosen for good luck. Its members benefited from that roll of the dice, catapulting Dennis DeYoung (vocals, keyboards), Tommy Shaw (vocals, guitar), James "J.Y." Young (vocals, guitar), Chuck Panozzo (bass), and John Panozzo (drums) into rock icons.

Shaw shared his thoughts on The Grand Illusion in 2013. He told The Daily Herald it was a "wonderful moment" in the band's life.
"Dennis [DeYoung] had the verses and choruses to the song early on and played it for us. It spoke to all of us and what we were experiencing as members of the same band, as our popularity grew and we started to make some money," he began.
"We were a very tight group musically at that time, and it was all for one and one for all -- this wonderful moment in the life of any band. So we all began to pour our hearts into it like one big 'AMEN!'"
He concluded, "Although there are credits for who wrote what, it was more the credit for who wrote the essence of the songs because everyone contributed unabashedly to each other's songs. The same can be said for the Pieces of Eight album. That's what sets those two apart from albums that came later. Again, the prime season of innocence in the life of a band."
"I think we all knew that this was our best work to that point," Young told Ultimate Classic Rock. "There was a very cohesive thing from the title of the record. There was a resonance there of a concept album or whatever, so I think we felt like we really had captured something."
Following the success of The Grand Illusion in 1977, the band released Pieces of Eight in 1978, Cornerstone in 1979, and Paradise Theatre in 1981. All four of these LPs went multiplatinum.
Styx is currently co-headlining "The Windy Cities Tour" with the rock band Chicago.

Disney Is Bringing Beloved Characters Somewhere Fans Never Expected
Disney fans may soon have a new reason to smile during the morning rush.
Skylight, the company behind the popular digital family calendar used to organize schedules, chores and meal plans, has announced its first-ever collaboration with Disney. Now, the brand is bringing some of the company's most beloved characters into everyday family routines.
The new optional feature, called Disney Mode, lets families add a little Disney magic to the Skylight Calendar with appearances from characters across Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.

That means familiar faces like Stitch, Moana and Elsa can pop up to celebrate when kids complete chores, redeem rewards or check off their daily tasks. Instead of a simple notification, children are greeted with themed animations and celebratory moments featuring their favorite characters.
Families can also personalize the experience by choosing from 16 Disney-inspired profile icons, while a rotating collection of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars artwork can transform the calendar into a nostalgic screensaver throughout the day.
For Disney fans who grew up watching animated classics or parents now introducing those same characters to their own children, the update adds a fun layer of familiarity to an otherwise ordinary household tool.
Rather than creating a standalone Disney app or game, the collaboration weaves iconic characters into something many families already use every day, turning routine responsibilities into moments that feel a little more rewarding.
The feature is available as an optional upgrade for Skylight Plus subscribers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, and can be turned on or off whenever families choose.
'The Invite' Review: Seth Rogen & Olivia Wilde's Comedy Is Surprisingly Heartfelt
Apartment couples spend a revealing evening together in The Invite, a saucy grownup comedy that quickly turns into a relationship minefield.
Joe and Angela (Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde) are a San Francisco married pair whose relationship is already rocky, more than just a bit stale and stagnated. Their upstairs neighbors Hawk and his girlfriend, Pina (Edward Norton and PenĂ©lope Cruz), donât have that problem. They make love, frequently and loudly, which irritates Joe considerably.
When Angela invites Hawk and Pina over for a get-to-know-you couples dinner, it sparks an evening of zippy, zappy conversation with more than food on the menu.
Hawk and Pina are swingers into group sex. Joe and Angela are not. At least, not yet.
Related: How a Seth Rogen flick became the No. 1 banned movie of all time
Wilde, as the director, threads a tricky needle with this ribald âsex comedyâ that doesnât depict any full-on sex and eventually turns into a touching tale about relationships, resets of the heart and what it takes for a couple to make beautiful music together.
She got her start acting; this is her third movie as a director, following the acclaimed Booksmart (2019) and Donât Worry Darling (2022). She knows what she's doing, and gives The Invite a confident, surefooted jolt of sassy comedic bite, from both sides of the camera.
Is The Invite based on another movie?Itâs based on a Spanish film called The People Upstairs, which was itself based on a play, and Wildeâs movie feels like somewhat of a return to the story's roots. Itâs set almost entirely inside Joe and Angelaâs apartment, like a stage set, where the four characters move through hallways, in and out of rooms as they progress through various emotions and temptations, play the blame game and spill forth their deep secrets. Itâs a brisk, snappy spin on the facadesâthe wallsâwe often put up to hide behind, and as the old â60s song says, the games people play.
Is The Invite funny?Yes, very funny. Often hilariously funny. Rogenâwho plays a music teacher deeply resentful how his life has turned outâhas never met a movie he couldnât spice up with a heh-heh-heh (or a spliff), and he certainly does both here. The conversations in The Invite have real farcical sting and zing. Wildeâs facial expressions silently convey a spectrum of responses, from a character who feels like something has died inside her, who longs for more but is unsure what it is or how to get itâand who may, in fact, have stumbled upon it.
Cruz, an Oscar winner for Vicky Christina Barcelona, is totally on the money as a tantalizing, Spanish-hottie âsex therapist.â Nortonâwhose wide-ranging resume includes Fight Club, American History X and Moonrise Kingdomâgets to deliver a revealing soliloquy that sets up a tonal shift that reshapes things in the movie's final act.

And you wonât see many other films that turn flan, Rolfing, a Sade song, back pain, a collapsible bike and a burnt soufflĂ© into laugh lines. Â
The movie puts an inventive, contemporary twist on âgroundbreakingâ couple comedies of years gone by, like Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice and Whoâs Afraid of Virginia Wolfe, and turns its satirical slices and dices into life-mate therapy and waves of personal re-evaluation.
Also worth noting: We find out that Joe met his wife-to-be almost two decades ago, when he played in a band thatâto his lingering disappointmentânever got its ticket to the big time. But it did have one hit song, which happened to be about Angela. Joeâs resentment becomes a subplot itself and gives a framework of enhanced relevance to the movieâs closing music, a demo of a duet between Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell that became the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classic âOur House.â Â
Why is The Invite dedicated to Diane Keaton? And the filmâs onscreen dedication, âTo Diane,â is Wilde's tribute to another emblem of sparkling, generation-defining movie comedies, the late, great Diane Keatonâwho I think would have felt right at home in this one, in this movie âhouse.â
âWe only get a few chances for meaningful relationships in our lives,â Pina says. âWhat do we all want? To be desired.â
The relationshipsâand the desiresâin The Invite donât necessarily turn out to go where you think theyâre going. The movie zigs when you think itâs going to zag and pumps the brakes when youâre prepared for it to give it more gas.
It keeps you guessing in an exhilarating way, driven by anticipation, discovery, confessionals and surprises, all within the walls of Joe and Angelaâs home. Ultimately, it arrives at a place where fantasy and reality meet on lifeâs metaphysical road with parallel lanes of wild and wearyâand where two people find what they truly need.
FINAL THOUGHTS: A saucy comedy that subverts your sex-pectations
Rating: R
When: In wide release Friday, July 10
Streaming: Expected to arrive on streaming services in 30 to 45 days

Costco's New Bakery Muffin Is Bursting With Summer Flavor
Summer has a way of putting Costco runs into overdrive, whether you're stocking up before a beach trip, feeding a houseful of guests, or grabbing breakfast for the whole family before a long day outdoors. And the bakery department just gave us one more reason to stop by.
A Cranberry Orange Muffin has been added to the lineup. The flavor pairs sweet-tart cranberries with bright citrus notes, creating a bakery treat that feels especially fitting for summer.
At $6.99 for an eight-count pack, it's hard to beat. That works out to less than $1 per muffin, a fraction of what you'd pay at a coffee shop or bakery counter, where a single muffin can easily run $2 or more. Even a quick Dunkin' run adds up fast by comparison.
You can find them in the bakery department under item #1991810. Like all Costco bakery items, they're baked fresh in-store, making them a great grab for summer mornings, weekend brunches, and everything in between.

For a simple treat, slice the muffins in half, butter the cut sides, and grill them face down until golden. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a warm, caramelized dessert that's cool, bright, and refreshing all at once.
Prefer something a little more creative? Slice the muffins into cubes, toss them in melted butter, and toast them until golden for a sweet crouton-style topping that takes a bowl of ice cream to a whole new level.
At $6.99 for eight fresh-baked muffins, Costco's latest bakery addition is an easy way to bring a little extra flavor to summer breakfasts, brunches, and dessert.
2000's Alt-Rock Icon Labeled "Diva" For Forcing Another Band to End Set
Gorillaz' Damon Albarn is facing backlash after a Danish psych rock band accused him of forcing organizers to cut their set short during his own headlining show.
Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats were performing on Roskilde Festival's Lagune stage on July 2, at the same time Gorillaz headlined the festival's Orange stage. According to the band, their set was pulled after only 25 minutes because Albarn complained he could hear their music from across the grounds.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Uncle Acid wrote that "pop diva" Albarn "threw a hissy fit" and threatened to walk off stage before their performance was shut down for being "too loud." The band said their front of house engineer was operating below the festival's decibel limit and had offered to lower the volume to keep playing, but organizers "wanted us off" anyway.
View this post on InstagramAlbarn appeared to reference the sound clash during Gorillaz's set, reportedly asking the crowd whether it was normal for him to hear the neighboring stage so clearly.
Roskilde organizers gave a different account. Strong winds were expected to continue through the festival, and the team said they had adjusted the day's schedule as a precaution following what they described as an unfortunate end to Uncle Acid's show. The festival attributed the cutoff to a mix of wind and technical factors affecting sound production.
That explanation didn't sit well with Uncle Acid drummer Jon Rice, who posted his own message calling Gorillaz "soft as baby sh-t" and disputing the festival's reasoning. Rice pointed out that a band called Monolord had played the same stage during a set by The Cure earlier in the festival without incident, despite similar sound bleed between stages. He added that Uncle Acid's engineer measured two decibels under the festival's limit for the entire set.
Gorillaz and Uncle Acid had overlapping start times, with Gorillaz beginning at 10 p.m. on the Orange stage and Uncle Acid following 15 minutes later on the Lagune stage roughly half a mile away.
This isn't the first time an Albarn appearance at Roskilde has ended in chaos. In 2015, the Blur and Gorillaz frontman was removed from the stage after refusing to end an Africa Express set on schedule, and a 2018 Gorillaz performance was interrupted when a guest performer fell off the stage.
Uncle Acid closed their statement by thanking Roskilde's crew and stage manager, saying the call to end the set was "out of their hands" and came from "orders from above." The band added a note to their Danish fans promising to return for a show in Copenhagen next year.
As of this week, neither Albarn nor Gorillaz has publicly responded to the accusations.
