Like the Beatles had Abbey Road, Queen’s Freddie Mercury had Garden Lodge.

The iconic Kensington estate was bought by Mercury in 1980 after viewing the house with his then-partner, Mary Austin. The couple lived there until their split in 1976, and it was Mercury’s final residence, having died at the house on November 24, 1991.

So, what happened to Garden Lodge after his death, and who owns the home today?

It comes as no surprise to Queen fans that Mercury’s house was inherited by his close friend Austin, who remains the owner to this day. However, she did put Garden Lodge up for sale in 2024, but it remains unsold.

The eight-bedroom Edwardian home has an asking price of around $38 million, no doubt due to its legacy. Before it was home to the “Bohemian Rhapsody” singer, painter Cecil Rhea and his wife, Constance Halford, owned the property. The former chairman of Sotheby’s, Peter Wilson, also lived in the house before Mercury.

Along with eight bedrooms, the house also features a drawing room with a wrap-around gallery, a Japanese sitting room, and a dressing room, mirrored floor to ceiling.

Austin, who released a new book titled “Freddie Mercury: A Life in Lyrics” on what would have been his 80th birthday, previously spoke of Mercury’s love of the home.

“It was really only ever my house in name only,” Austin told Bloomberg in a 2024 interview. “I had worked on the house with him and for him, and it will always be his. It was his dream, it was his vision.”

The now 72-year-old is also being very selective when it comes to the estate’s next owner. “The last thing you want is for someone to say, ‘Yes, I’ll buy it,’ and exploit it, and demolish it,” she added. “This is unique and has its beauty, and I know it has a purpose for someone – it did for Freddie.”

Austin held an auction of many of Mercury’s belongings from Garden Lodge in 2023 and raised roughly $50 million, donating a portion to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Gael Cameron is breaking her silence after a difficult season, revealing she has spent the past few months quietly healing and rebuilding as Nathan Gallagher faces mounting legal trouble.

The Below Deck Mediterranean star shared an emotional message thanking fans for their support of her and her son, Kayden, while acknowledging “everything that’s come to light” surrounding her relationship with Gallagher. Although Cameron did not specifically address Gallagher’s arrest warrant, her comments offer a glimpse into how she has been moving forward amid the growing controversy.

“Hey guys, I just want to say thank you so much for the support you’ve shown for Kayden and I,” she wrote in her an Instagram story. “It’s been a tough season but I have been using the past few months to quietly heal and rebuild for the little man and myself. I really appreciate the love you have sent our way especially with everything that’s come to light and I’m really working on finding myself again and moving forward.”

Her message comes as Bravo has officially cut ties with Gallagher following his failure to appear for a court hearing in Australia related to domestic violence charges involving Cameron.

A Bravo representative confirmed to Rolling Stone that the network does not plan to work with Gallagher in the future. The decision comes after growing frustration among members of the Below Deck franchise over the network’s silence following news of Gallagher’s arrest.

Gallagher, 28, was arrested in Sydney, Australia, in December 2025 after he was accused of assaulting and strangling Cameron during a physical dispute. The couple met while filming Season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean and later welcomed their son in June 2025.

Gallagher was scheduled to appear before a magistrate but did not attend the hearing. He was subsequently convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and intentionally choking a person without consent, according to reports. Police said he was believed to be offshore, and an arrest warrant was issued.

The legal fallout has now extended to Gallagher’s future with Below Deck, with Bravo confirming that the reality star will not return to the franchise. However, according to Rolling Stone, Gallagher will continue to appear in the remaining episodes of the current season.

The development marks a dramatic turn for Gallagher, whose relationship with Cameron and their transition into parenthood had been part of his storyline on Below Deck Mediterranean. For Cameron, however, her latest message makes clear that her focus is on healing, rebuilding, and moving forward with her son.

There isn’t a generation alive that doesn’t appreciate and love at least one of Robin Williams‘ works. But of all of his films for kids and families, in my humble opinion, Hook is truly the best. For those who don’t remember, the story follows workaholic Peter Banning (Williams), who constantly disappoints his family by prioritizing his job. Banning ends up visiting his wife’s grandmother, Granny Wendy (Dame Maggie Smith), who also helped him get adopted, returning to the house they grew up in in merry old England.

While at a benefit for Wendy, Banning’s children are kidnapped from their beds, and Wendy finally reveals that Banning is the real Peter Pan, and his children were taken by Captain James Hook (Dustin Hoffman). He’s in complete denial until the pixie Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) whisks him away to Neverland to help him remember who he is and take back his kids.

From top to bottom, the Steven Spielberg classic is a masterpiece in fantasy film. It transcends age—while my child self marveled at the epic pirate sword-fighting scenes and Tinkerbell magic, my adult self sobs at the themes of being a present parent and believing in yourself.

Critics in 1991 did not share my sentiment, though. Film critic Roger Ebert called it “a lugubrious retread of a once-magical idea,” adding that its ending “would be embarrassingly excessive even for a movie in which something of substance had gone before. Here we get the uncanny suspicion that ‘Hook’ was written and directed according to the famous recipe of the country preacher who told the folks what he was going to tell them, told them, and then told them what he had told them.”

That harsh criticism, however, is not shared by the masses. On movie-rating site Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored an impressive 76% Audience Score.

“This will always be a favorite, top-tier movie for me. It’s just so beautifully done; and hits all the right emotional notes. Peter’s journey of self-discovery, remembering who he was and who he needs to be is so powerful. Masterful work by Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hoskins, Julia Roberts, Steven Spielberg, and everyone else involved with the movie. Hook gets me every time; maybe even more so as I get older. Robin Williams is Peter Pan. Bangerang,” wrote one enthusiastic fan of the film.

“I can’t believe this movie has such a low rating! It was a masterpiece in its time and still is today,” another claimed.

Many credit Williams’ brilliant performance for “saving” the film, and frankly, they probably aren’t wrong—Williams is at his peak in this piece, blending his emotional prowess with his childlike demeanor. Personally, it will forever be one of my all-time favorites and clearly many agree.

No one can embarrass you like your dad, even if he’s a world-famous actor. Just ask Robert De Niro’s daughter, Drena.

The 59-year-old was on comedian Jessica Kirson’s podcast when she revealed her father tried to play matchmaker with her and one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs in the mid-’90s.

“He calls Brad Pitt into the trailer, and he’s just like, ‘There’s somebody I want you to meet. It’s my daughter. Very nice, she’s got her own life,’ which these are two things you do not want to be introduced to anyone,” Drena shared. “He gives him my number, ‘You know, why don’t you call her.”

According to Drena, De Niro, 83, also promised not to get involved if they got into a fight or if the relationship didn’t work out.

So, what did Pitt, 62, think of the setup?

“Brad was just like, ‘OK,’ and took the number, and I think he just had a story to tell,” Drena said, before adding that years later, Pitt explained why he never called. “At one point, he apologized to my dad and said, ‘Look I’m sorry I never called her but I had just gotten engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow.’

De Niro and Pitt starred together in the 1996 crime drama Sleepers, which also starred Kevin Bacon and Dustin Hoffman. Pitt also dated Paltrow from 1994 to 1997.

Did De Niro regret embarrassing his daughter in front of the former Sexiest Man Alive? Not in the slightest.

“So, I got really upset at my dad, and I knew he meant kind of well, but my dad was like, ‘Trust me. I put something in his head. He’s always going to wonder what would have happened if I had called her,'” Drena ended her story with a laugh.

Drena is the second oldest of De Niro’s seven children. He is also the dad to son Raphael, 49; twins Julian and Airyn, 30; son Elliott, 28; daughter Helen, 14; and daughter Gia, 3.

Talking Heads created some of the ’80s’ most recognizable hits, including one of their greatest rock tracks, which Brian Eno helped bring to life with David Byrne despite its lack of chart success.

Entertainment Weekly released its list of the “Greatest Rock Songs of All Time,” with the band’s “Once in a Lifetime” ranked among some greats, from Prince and ZZ Top to David Bowie. The 1981 song was tagged as an “ode to dissociation” and Talking Heads’ signature track.

“Once in a Lifetime” was released as a single in 1981 and had previously been released as part of their Remain in the Light album in 1980. It was produced and written by Eno alongside the band. The track’s influence even led to it being named one of the most influential American works of the 20th century and to being named by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the songs that shaped the genre.

Despite its generational success, the Talking Heads song didn’t actually do well on the charts. It landed at No.103 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. It was also almost not recorded and was scrapped by the band because Eno didn’t initially like the song. Byrne insisted he could make the song work with its lyrics.

“At first, it wasn’t one of Eno’s favourite tracks. We very nearly abandoned the song. I insisted that I could write words to it and pull it together. Then Eno had an idea for a melody for the chorus, and it fell into place. It worked as a call-and-response pattern, like a preacher’s conversation with his congregation. I improvised lines as if I was giving a sermon,” he said, according to Uncut.

Many found the track intriguing due to Byrne having taken inspiration from evangelists he recorded off the radio. He had taken notes and picked up phrases that he thought were “interesting directions” and felt were fascinating, as he couldn’t imagine himself living a middle-class life that was “so different” from his own.

Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime” became an undeniable fan favorite with Byrne’s “half-spoken, half-sung” lyrics. He even reportedly disappeared for a month in a rented car and drove through “the American South and listened to Pentecostal preachers on the radio.”

According to Far Out magazine, he told NPR that the song is about unconsciousness and, “You know, we operate half awake or on autopilot and end up, whatever, with a house and family and job and everything else, and we haven’t really stopped to ask ourselves, ‘How did I get here?’”

The song would regain traction thanks to its music video featuring Byrnes dancing erratically over footage of religious rituals. When MTV first launched, “Once in a Lifetime” was played heavily and sparked new exposure.

Getting older brings a lot of not-so-fun surprises: gray hair, achy joints, lower bone density…the list goes on. But one particularly scary symptom of aging is having a harder time balancing, leading to increased trips and falls. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 3 million older adults visit the emergency room every year because of a trip or fall.

And unfortunately, a fear of falling can lead to other issues. “Older people, in particular, experience balance problems and may feel limited in their ability to participate in daily activities, such as walking, shopping and interacting with family and friends, which can impact their psychological wellbeing,” Thea Johansen, a physiotherapist, previously told Parade.

There are some well-researched ways to lower your risk of falling, such as walking regularly, which one study found can reduce your risk of falling by 23%. But what if preventing falls was as simple as correcting a vitamin deficiency? There’s one in particular that’s correlated with tripping more. Here’s what to know.

If you’re tripping more often, or notice that a loved one is, it may be worth getting your B12 levels checked. Dr. Nakeisha Rodgers, MD, a dual board internist, geriatrician and the author of Secrets of Sassy, Savvy Seniors, previously told Parade that B12 deficiencies are common in people over 50, and women in particular.

A B12 deficiency can lead to low energy and memory problems, but another big sign is tripping or falling more often. “Vitamin B12 is important for brain cell communication. Cells need it to function,” she explained.

Rather than run out to your local pharmacy and buy a B12 supplement, it’s better to get your levels checked via blood test ordered by your doctor. If you are deficiency, they may recommend supplementation, or suggest you eat more vitamin B12-rich foods.

Examples of food types rich in vitamin B12 include:

• Fish
• Meat
• Poultry
• Eggs
• Dairy products

Vitamin B12 is a common deficiency in adults over 50, but it’s not the only one. As you get older, it’s worth checking in with your doctor to see if you’re deficient in nutrients like calcium, fiber or vitamin D.

Calcium is important for bone health (and bone density tends to decline with age), fiber is key for keeping the digestive system on track and preventing certain cancers (like colon cancer), and vitamin D is crucial for your immune system, cognitive health and injury prevention—like vitamin B12, a vitamin D deficiency can lead to more frequent falls, Dr. Rodgers said.

Supplementation can be an option, but many doctors will recommend a food-first approach to filling in those nutritional gaps. So again, instead of guessing what’s wrong and stocking up on supplements, it’s always best to consult your doctor first so the two of you can come up with a plan together.

In 1982, one of the most successful rock bands of the 1970s desperately needed a hit.

Chicago had spent the previous decade racking up huge albums and singles, including “25 or 6 to 4,” “Saturday in the Park,” “Just You ‘n’ Me” and the band’s first No. 1 hit, “If You Leave Me Now.”

But after the accidental death of founding guitarist Terry Kath in 1978, everything changed.

The band continued, but the hits became harder to come by. From 1978 through 1980, Chicago couldn’t get a single higher than No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, while five singles failed to make the Top 40, according to music historian Fred Bronson’s “Billboard Book of Number One Hits.”

Then came another blow.

In 1981, Columbia Records dropped Chicago despite the band having generated $160 million in album sales for the label, Bronson writes.

Just one year later, Chicago was back on top.

“Hard to Say I’m Sorry” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 44 years ago today, giving the band its second chart-topper and its first since “If You Leave Me Now” six years earlier.

And despite carrying the Chicago name, the recording itself featured a rather surprising collection of musicians.

After leaving Columbia, Chicago underwent a significant overhaul. The band signed with Warner Bros. Records, brought in producer David Foster and began moving away from the horn-heavy sound that had helped define its music in the ’70s.

The transformation extended to Chicago’s sound.

As keyboardist Robert Lamm told Bronson, the new approach had an “upfront, immediate feel,” with increased collaboration becoming an important part of both the band’s overall sound and its songwriting.

That new approach was particularly evident on “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” which Peter Cetera co-wrote with Foster.

Cetera sang lead and played acoustic guitar, while Foster played piano. But the recording also featured three members of Toto: Steve Lukather on electric guitar, with David Paich and Steve Porcaro contributing synthesizers.

In fact, only two members of Chicago actually played on the main portion of “Hard to Say I’m Sorry”: Cetera and drummer Danny Seraphine.

The arrangement was a striking departure for a band famous for making its horn section an essential part of its identity. “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” instead leaned heavily on synthesizers, piano and electric guitar, creating the polished power-ballad sound that would come to define Chicago’s next chapter.

The horns weren’t entirely gone, however. They burst back into the spotlight during “Get Away,” the uptempo second movement attached to the song, which was co-written by longtime Chicago member Robert Lamm.

Released as the lead single from Chicago 16, “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” didn’t merely end the band’s dry spell. It helped kick off one of rock’s more impressive career resurrections.

The song climbed all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Chicago’s second chart-topper. It spent 12 weeks in the Top 5 and earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

“Hard to Say I’m Sorry” also appeared in the 1982 movie Summer Lovers, starring Peter Gallagher and Daryl Hannah.

Its parent album proved that Chicago’s comeback extended beyond one song. Chicago 16 reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum.

“The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll” later described what followed as Chicago’s “second-phase streak of hits,” beginning with “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.”

And it was quite a second act.

The band followed with “Hard Habit to Break” and “You’re the Inspiration,” both No. 3 hits in 1984. “Will You Still Love Me?” reached No. 3 in 1987, and Chicago eventually returned to No. 1 yet again with “Look Away” in 1988.

The comeback also brought Chicago a new generation of listeners.

“A lot of our biggest fans these days are 18 to 25 year old,” Lamm told Bronson in 1984. “They’re finding out about us for the first time.”

For a band that had been dropped by its longtime record label just three years earlier, the turnaround was remarkable.

“That’s tremendously gratifying,” Lamm said. “It’s great when what you’re doing sounds fresh and new to people who’ve never heard it before.”

And then came an observation that sounds particularly fitting 44 years after “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” returned Chicago to No. 1: “You get the feeling you’re creating something that lasts.”

In February 1991, Julia Roberts was on top of the world. She had just starred in the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, Pretty Woman, won her first Golden Globe for Best Actress, and she was engaged to fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland.

So, audiences could not wait for her next movie, a psychological thriller titled Sleeping With the Enemy. And Roberts’ star power definitely delivered. The movie grossed $175 million at the box office against a $19 million production budget.

However, the reviews were less than nice at the time. Acclaimed movie critic Roger Ebert gave it one and a half stars, writing in his review, “Sleeping with the Enemy is a slasher movie in disguise,” and it “seems to have greatness in its grasp, and goes straight for the mundane.”

Currently, on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 24 percent rating, making its success at the box office even more impressive.

The movie follows Roberts’ character, Laura Burney, as she fakes her death in an attempt to get away from her abusive husband, Martin (Patrick Bergin). Despite relocating from Cape Cod to Iowa, Laura is tracked down by her husband, forcing her to confront her past.

Despite its lackluster reviews, Sleeping With the Enemy is credited with being one of the first contemporary movies to put domestic violence front and center. When asked what she would do in her character’s shoes, Roberts put a spotlight on the important issue.

“That’s not for me to really say. I can’t even fathom being in a situation quite that horrible, it’s not in my realm of understanding,” she said in an interview with Bobbie Wygant at the time. “But I think it’s a process of manipulation that grows and becomes stronger than that. It’s not kind of that cut and dry. I think it’s amazingly psychological and very destructive, so I don’t think it’s quite that simple.”

There are also reports that a remake of the film is in the works by director Nia DaCosta.

Of all her roles, Smith has made it clear that she loves being a mother and grandmother more than anything. Smith’s adorable granddaughter, Olivia, paid homage to her grandma’s legendary role recently, toting a Charlie’s Angels lunchbox as she prepares to head to school.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since Charlie’s Angels debuted and started a TV revolution. The pilot of the hit show aired on March 21st, 1971, and Smith’s dear friend Foley took to Instagram to honor the day with a photo of the stunner in pink pajamas. While it has been five decades since she first took on the role of Kelly Garrett, you wouldn’t know it. Smith glows in front of the camera, looking ageless.

Last Action Hero was a 1993 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Collider recently ranked it as one of “The 8 Most Fun Action Movies of the 1990s.” The film is about a child who was transported into the world of his favorite action movie character.

Although the film wasn’t a success at the box office and only has a 42% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film went on to gain a cult following over the years. Many call it underrated, praising it for being meta and self-aware.

Unfortunately, Schwarzenegger didn’t take the negative reception well. According to  Variety, he said, “When Last Action Hero came out, I had reached my peak after Terminator 2, having the most successful movie of the year worldwide. Terminator 2: Judgement Day earned $31.8 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, finishing with a total of $520.9 million worldwide. At the time, it was the third-highest-grossing film ever, after Star Wars and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.”

James Cameron recalled speaking to him after Last Action Hero hit theaters and said, “He sounded like he was in bed crying. He took it as a deep blow to his brand. I think it really shook him… I said, ‘What are you gonna do?’ He said, ‘I’m just gonna hang out by myself.’ That’s the only time I’ve ever heard him down.”

However, many people are fans of the film to this day. As one Redditor said, “LAH easily sits in my top 5 Arnold movies. It’s so damn good, and the switch from Hollywood reality to real reality is awesome.” Another said, “If it hadn’t come out a week after Jurassic Park, it could’ve done better. It was bad timing, after all.”

More than four decades after last playing on the campus, AC/DC made a thunderous return to Notre Dame Stadium—in a setting unlike ever before.

On Sept. 4, 2026, the legendary ‘70s rock band took the stage at the iconic stadium, delivering a high-energy performance as part of their ongoing Power Up tour, with special guests, The Pretty Reckless.

AC/DC previously played at the university in 1983 during their Flick of the Switch tour, which took place at the Edmund P. Joyce Center.

The latest return also marked their first-ever performance at Notre Dame Stadium, adding a historic milestone to the band’s lengthy and enduring legacy.

Notre Dame Stadium, long known as the home of Fighting Irish football, only began hosting concerts in 2018, making each event a notable occasion as AC/DC joins a short list of performers who have taken the stage there.

It was a moment to remember not only for longtime fans, but for the university, who may now attract larger acts and crowds in the future. 

“With Notre Dame starting to open up with doing venues like this, it’s going to bring a lot of money in, and you know, generate. Hopefully, they bring more, more newer concerts in,” Roger Hoskins said, per WSBT.

According to videos shared on social media, the venue was packed with tens of thousands of fans, as the band delivered exactly what was expected of them, including a setlist packed with iconic riffs and timeless hits. 

“Youuuu shook us All Night Long,” the B100 clip shared.

One fan commented, boasting, “Video recordings do not do justice to the performance…they sounded amazing in person and put on a show that people half their age could never live up to. Angus rocked out just like he did in the 80s…the concert was spectacular.”

“They still rock” and “forever the best” comments also poured in. 

Songs like “Back in Black,” “Highway to Hell,” and “Thunderstruck” proved that even after decades in the spotlight, AC/DC remains one of rock’s most electrifying live acts.

According to Setlist.FM, the evening ended with “Let There Be Rock,” featuring a 20-minute guitar solo from Angus Young, before two encores of “T.N.T” and “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).”

And for fans who remembered the band’s earlier campus appearance, or those experiencing them live for the first time, the evening felt like a full-circle moment. 

Notre Dame’s show may have been a roaring success, but their Toronto concert is facing a setback. The venue, Rogers Stadium, set to host the band’s show on Sept. 16, suffered significant damage following a heavy storm. The concert remains scheduled for now, with updates promised ahead of time.

The tour is set to conclude in Philadelphia on Sept. 29, 2026, after kicking off in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on May 17, 2024.

In 1960, the “King of Rock and Roll” released a hit that would not only go on to become a chart success, but would also serve as a source of inspiration for another singer’s life.

During the tail end of his time stationed in Friedberg, Germany, Elvis Presley had become captivated by the melody of Eduardo di Capua’s “‘O Sole Mio,” a Neapolitan ballad written in 1898, and told his music publisher that he would like to record a similar English track. “It’s Now or Never” was the result, written by Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold in reportedly just 20 minutes.

Presley recorded the track at RCA Studio B in Nashville, and was produced by Steve Sholes. Per a previous Parade article, the beloved singer was a perfectionist, wanting to record the song’s dramatic vocal climax in a single take without any splicing.

“[Elvis] wanted everything to be right, almost to the point of having tears in his eyes because he felt himself to be struggling to get the result that he envisioned,” recalled Schroeder of Elvis’ recording style.

Shortly after its release, the track soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for five weeks. In the United Kingdom, it topped the Official Singles Chart for eight consecutive weeks.

Outside of the charts, “It’s Now or Never” had a huge impact on R&B and soul singer Barry White, with the song helping him turn his life around following his arrest. As a teenager, the “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” hitmaker spent four months in juvenile detention and would often hear Presley’s chart-topper playing from another cell down the hall.

“I’d heard [the song] before, I don’t know, twenty-five, thirty times,” White recalled in his memoir, per American Songwriter. “But it never hit me like it did that night. It was, of all people, Elvis Presley! The song? ‘It’s Now Or Never.’ It became my personal message, meant only for me. ‘Stop wasting your time, Barry,’ it said. ‘When you get out, you better change your ways. It’s now or never.’ I sat up in my cell bed, and right then and there took an oath that I would do just that—change my life.”

Ethan’s eldest daughter, Maya Hawke, is a rising star in her own right. While Netflix’s Stranger Things catapulted her to superstardom, she followed in her mother Uma Thurman’s footsteps by appearing in Quentin Tarantino‘s 2019 hit Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. 

During an appearance on Amy Poehler‘s podcast Good Hang, Poehler asked Hawke what advice Thurman gave her about working with Tarantino.

“‘Keep your shoes on,’” Hawke replied, in reference to Tarantino’s alleged obsession with bare feet.

“Keep your shoes on,” repeated Poehler, laughing. “Keep ’em on, baby. Perfect advice. Perfect.”

Hawke went on to say how much joy she found as a child hanging out on movie sets with her mother and her father.

“It was like this safe, little world where I could be alone. No one needed to be watching me. I could walk over to Crafty and take cookies and M&M’s and gummy bears and get them and I could go watch the stunt people practice,” she said, saying it “like Disneyland.”

Tom Hanks is one of the most recognizable big-screen actors in Hollywood, from animated hits to emotionally driven storylines. Among his well-known works, there’s one epic war film that has been tagged as one of the greatest ever made: Saving Private Ryan.

By 1998, Hanks was already at the top of the A-list, having played iconic roles in Sleepless in Seattle, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and voicing the beloved Sheriff Woody in Toy Story. Saving Private Ryan only solidified his career standing, and it became known as one of the greatest war epics in cinematic history. Rotten Tomatoes ranked it at No.214 on their list of the Best Movies of All Time, and it received a 94% score.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, Saving Private Ryan grossed over $482 million at the box office against a $65 million budget. It all began thanks to producer Mark Gordon, who was inspired by the historical book D-Day June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War II (1994), by Stephen E. Ambrose that was gifted to him by his wife. The book told real-life accounts of the events in Normandy and first-hand accounts by soldiers like the Sullivan Brothers and the Niland Brothers.

“The idea of losing a son to war is painful beyond description … the idea of losing more than one son is inconceivable,” said Gordon to the Los Angeles Times.

Saving Private Ryan wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Hanks, who was given the script by his junior agent at the time after Michael Bay backed out of the project. He met with Gordon and producer Gary Levinson about the film and later gave the script to Spielberg. With Hanks and the director on board, Paramount was convinced to do the film.

The war epic takes place in 1944 during World War II in Normandy, France, as Captain John Miller and a group of soldiers are tasked with locating and bringing home James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) after his three brothers have already been killed in combat.

Spielberg called the film an ode to his father, who was also a soldier, and having grown up hearing stories of the war. The film went through some extensive rewrites, as the director felt films at the time “sanitized” the reality of war. Alongside Hanks and Damon, Saving Private Ryan starred an ensemble cast including Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Jeremy Davis, Vin Diesel, Adam Goldberg, Barry Pepper, and many more actors.

It became the second-highest-grossing film og 1998, earning Golden Globe wins, Oscars, and a BAFTA. Saving Private Ryan’s popularity also led it to be preserved by the Library of Congress.

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens was listed as one of “The 10 Best-Selling Fiction Books of All Time” by Collider. The book, which is considered a masterpiece by many, has sold more than 200 million copies. Some of the only other books to reach this milestone are Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

As described on Goodreads, where the book has a 3.88-star rating, “A Tale of Two Cities is Charles Dickens’s great historical novel, set against the violent upheaval of the French Revolution. The most famous and perhaps the most popular of his works, it compresses an event of immense complexity to the scale of a family history, with a cast of characters that includes a bloodthirsty ogress and an antihero as believably flawed as any in modern fiction.”

As one teacher said, “While A Tale of Two Cities is masterfully written with sly humor, densely meaningful descriptions, a cast of quirky characters only Dickens could create, an endless series of telling binaries and foils, and relevant social commentary about the French Revolution as well as Dickens’ time, it is also simply a damn good story. By a damn good storyteller.”

Although Dickens did not receive any literary awards during his lifetime, A Tale of Two Cities was adapted into a 1935 film that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Film Editing. The film currently has a 93% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer said, “It’s everything I expect from a Dickens adaptation: a grand, sweeping storyline; impeccable period costumes and sets; and colorful villains and selfless heroes.”

Dickens is one of the most well-known authors of all time. In addition to writing A Tale of Two Cities, he is also known for writing iconic stories like A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Bleak House, and Great Expectations.

Dickens died in 1870 at the age of 58.

Country legend Alan Jackson closed a defining chapter of his career with a final concert that marked both a personal milestone and a historic moment for country music. 

On Saturday, June 27, the country crooner stepped onto the stage for his last concert, drawing thousands of devoted fans who had followed his career for decades. 

According to Touring Data, reported by American Songwriter and Taste of Country, Alan Jackson’s Last Call: One More For The Road concert at Nissan Stadium in Nashville became the highest-grossing concert by any artist ever. 

It reportedly brought in $34.729 million in revenue. 

Known for his traditional sound and storytelling lyrics, Jackson has long been considered one of the genre’s most enduring voices, making the farewell all the more significant.

The farewell show was one of the most expensive stadium concerts in history, with ticket prices averaging $618.95.

A total of 56,109 tickets were reportedly sold. 

Fans in the comments of the Country Chord post expressed that “It was worth every hard earned cent!” as another added, “My wife and niece said it was so worth it,” with others calling it “awesome” to witness in person.

The concert was a celebration of a legacy spanning generations, with hits like “Chattahoochee” and heartfelt ballads such as “Remember When.”

Tribute performances and special messages from some of Jackson’s friends and colleagues in the country music space, from Luke Bryan to Carrie Underwood, made it a night to remember. 

Jackson may have retired, but his music will endure, with his albums climbing the charts just days after the final show, adding two albums back on the Billboard 200.

Since taking the stage for the last time, Jackson has given fans a peek at how he’s spending his free time, celebrating the birth of his fifth grandchild.

The farewell concert is set to air on NBC later this year, with no specific date given just yet.

Simon Cowell’s absence from America’s Got Talent has left fans wondering where the longtime judge is—and Howie Mandel now has an encouraging update on his recovery.

Cowell, 66, recently underwent previously planned back surgery related to injuries he suffered in a 2020 e-bike accident. Mandel said Sept. 3 that he heard the operation was a success and is hoping his fellow judge recovers quickly enough to return to AGT before the season 21 finale.

“As I talk to you, he is just hours out of surgery,” Mandel told E! News. “I heard that it was a success, everything’s okay.”

Mandel added, “I haven’t called him yet,” and joked, “I don’t know that, this close to surgery, if this is the first thing you need to see.” But Mandel said that he “can’t wait to see him and visit him and give him my best wishes.”

Cowell has been absent from America’s Got Talent for about two weeks, stepping away from the season 21 live quarterfinals to undergo the previously planned back procedure. The operation was related to injuries he sustained in his 2020 electric bike accident, and guest judges, including Kenan Thompson and Heidi Klum, have temporarily filled his seat while he recovers.

Cowell’s latest procedure comes six years after a devastating e-bike accident nearly left him unable to walk. In August 2020, the America’s Got Talent judge fell while testing an electric bike at his Malibu home, breaking his back and requiring a five-hour surgery involving multiple fusions and a metal rod.

“I knew I’d broken my back the minute I landed. It was really, really kind of sudden and it hurt,” Cowell told Extra in 2021. “It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk.”

Cowell later said he was “lucky to survive” the accident and acknowledged that the injuries caused long-term nerve damage.
