Alex Ligertwood, the vocalist known for his work with Santana, has died at the age of 79.

News of his passing was shared by his wife, Shaun Brogan, on the Brogan Agency’s Facebook page Sunday, May 3. She revealed that the singer died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Santa Monica—just weeks after taking the stage for what would be his final performance.

“It’s with great sadness and heartache to announce the passing of my sweet dear Alex Ligertwood, my husband of 25 years, we knew each other for 36 years,” Brogan started her post. “He touched so many with his extraordinary voice. He was all heart and soul. His favorite thing in life was to make music, sing and to share his gift with us.”

Ligertwood’s connection to Santana stretched across more than a decade, with the vocalist stepping in and out of the lineup between 1979 and 1994 alongside frontman Carlos Santana. During that time, he helped shape the band’s sound on projects like Marathon, Zebop!, and Shango, while also contributing to live shows.

And beyond Santana, Ligertwood remained deeply respected in the music world. Guitarist Brandon Paul, who shared the stage with him in recent years, called him “a world-class professional” in a statement to TMZ. “His voice was a force of nature—soulful, from the heart, and legendary every single night. Beyond the music, he was an amazing human being and a dear friend.”

At this time, it’s unclear Ligertwood’s cause of death. His team has not responded to Parade’s request for comment at this time.

46 years ago today, on May 3, 1980, Debby Boone scored a No. 1 hit with her country classic, “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again.” By the time she had marked that milestone, the singer had already established herself in the pop genre, having scored big with her long-running signature hit and timeless love anthem, “You Light Up My Life.” 

Boone, the squeaky-clean daughter of Pat Boone, had a knack for finding success in different genres, which showcased both her talent and impressive versatility, according to American Songwriter. 

A Crossover Success

With “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again,” she proved yet again that she could experience major crossover success following previous stints in pop throughout the ‘70s and in gospel music before that, where she performed alongside her sisters as part of The Boone Girls.

Before landing her No. 1 country smash, Boone’s foray into the country genre began in 1978 with the song “In Memory of Your Love.” She followed that song with a string of covers and a self-titled album. But it wasn’t until her next album, Love Has No Reason, that things began to take shape. 

“Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again” belonged on Love Has No Reason. Not only did the song bring Boone new success, but it also made chart history for women in country music. 

A Triumph for Female Country Artists

Two weeks before reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, the tune was climbing from No. 3, positioned among four other tracks by women that made up a historic all-female Top 5. Those spots included Crystal Gayle’s “It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye,” Dottie West’s “A Lesson in Leavin’,” Emmylou Harris’ “Beneath Still Waters,” and Tammy Wynette’s “Two Story House” with George Jones. 

The Lyrics

Written by Debbie Hupp and Bob Morrison and produced by Larry Butler, “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again” finds the singer asking her love interest, with a feeling of uncertainty, if their relationship will progress in a forward motion. Featuring a laid-back melody with bright acoustics and fitting shakers, the tune focuses on a romance that appears to have been pushed aside but has been left open, with the possibility for a second chance. Boone asks her former flame if he has returned to her to just “pass time” or if he’s looking for a way back to her heart. 

Making a Change

Though Boone managed to secure a top song, becoming a standout in the country format, she didn’t stick with the genre for very long. A year after making waves, and following up her No. 1 hit with two more singles — “Free to Be Lonely Again” and “Take It Like a Woman” —  and another country album, 1981’s Savin’ It Up, Boone transitioned her focus toward contemporary Christian music and theater, later earning multiple Grammy Awards and four Top 10 Contemporary Christian albums, among other successes.

Some songs take time, not to mention the right artist, to become unforgettable hits.

"Bette Davis Eyes" was first co-written and recorded in 1974 by Jackie DeShannon, offering a jazz-influenced soft rock take that reflected the sound of the era.

"I started off when I was around 12 or 13, writing songs because it was very difficult to get a recording contract when I was so young, and there were only just a few labels," DeShannon told NPR in 2010. Though "Bette Davis Eyes" was undeniably a well-written song and did manage to gain some attention, it never reached the heights that would come later.

That changed seven years later.

In 1981, singer-songwriter Kim Carnes reimagined the song with a completely different approach, transforming it into a sleek, synth-driven track that fit perfectly within the evolving pop landscape of the early '80s. With its distinctive arrangement and Carnes' raspy, unmistakable vocals, the song took on a new life.

The result was a massive breakthrough. Carnes' version of "Bette Davis Eyes" climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for an impressive nine weeks, making it one of the biggest hits of the year.

The song's success also earned critical acclaim, winning multiple Grammy Awards and becoming a defining track of the decade.

Its lyrics, inspired by the iconic Hollywood actress Bette Davis, added to its intrigue, blending old-Hollywood glamour with a modern edge that resonated with listeners. Davis herself was even a fan of the song.

"I was flabbergasted, and I thought it was fun, and I thought the words were pretty terrific," the legendary actress said in a 1987 interview. "As a matter of fact, I wrote the girl who wrote the words and asked her how she knew me this well. But the big thrill of that was the reaction of my grandson, Ashley. That his grandmother was in the rock 'n' roll area, with a record … he looked at me completely differently from then on."

What makes "Bette Davis Eyes" especially remarkable is its journey from a modestly received original to a chart-topping global hit years later. It's a rare example of a song being completely reinvented and surpassing its initial release in both popularity and cultural impact.

Decades later, the track remains a staple of '80s music and a testament to the power of reinvention.

Dana Delany confesses she “freaked out” the first time she met RobertRedford.

The 70-year-old actress spoke to People about the interaction she still feels embarrassed about at the TCM Classic Film Festival. 

Delany worked with Redford’s son, JamieRedford, while acting in the 2003 film Spin. The drama also featured Stanley Tucci, RyanMerriman, and Paula Garcés.

The director's father was “so supportive,” according to Delany.

"We had a little pre-dinner before the movie screened. I was sitting there with a plate on my lap, like a buffet thing. All of a sudden, I looked to my right, and there was Robert Redford on his knees in front of me, telling me how good I was in the movie, and he wanted me to know before all the hubbub started,” said the China Beach star.

Delany was shocked to receive a compliment from the Hollywood icon. 

“I was so freaked out that Robert Redford was on his knees telling me this because it's all I ever wanted in life," she added. "Then I said, ‘Oh, thank you,' and I turned away because I couldn't handle it. I was just so freaked, and I regret that completely."

"The poor guy got off of his knees and just walked away,” Delany said.

The moment was even more impactful because she had been a fan of the All the President's Men actor since her youth.

“Robert Redford is a big part of my childhood. It's funny, I would say the most romantic movie was The Way We Were," Delany shared. "I'd say his sexiest was when he was The Sundance Kid."

While starstruck in the moment, the actress shared that Redford was accustomed to similar reactions. “He knew the effect that he had on people," she said.

Robert Redford was a Hollywood legend. He is best known for films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Sting (1973), and Indecent Proposal (1993). The actor was an important figure in the independent film movement and founded the Sundance Institute.

Throughout his 65-year career, he won two Academy Awards and received four nominations. Redford died on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89.

The sticks can be ready in just a few minutes in the air fryer (or slightly longer in a conventional oven), and cost just $4.99 for a box of four.

So far, shoppers seem to be mostly on board.

“Really tasty, though can use some sort of seasoning,” one Reddit user noted. “Just had them. Cooked perfectly in the air fryer. So good, will buy again,” wrote another.

“Yummm these are good especially with the spicy dynamite sauce! great late night snack,” one replied.

A third stated that the sticks are fine as is: “Kind of obsessed with them. I don’t put any sauce on them - I think they are perfect.”

That said, not everyone is completely sold. Some customers have pointed out issues with texture or sweetness levels.

“They are decent. The breading reminds me of an onion ring batter and there isn't enough cheese to balance out the breading. I wouldn't get them again,” one explained.

“They are good, a little sweet. My problem with it is how little you get for the price,” claimed another.

Like many Trader Joe’s launches, the Potato Cheese Sticks won’t be around long as they are a limited item, so if you see them next time you’re shopping, definitely grab a box—or three.

Fire Country Season 4 is winding down, and a lengthy summer break for the hit CBS drama is on the horizon.

When Fire Country Season 5 returns in the fall, a couple of things will be different for the show. One of them is behind the scenes, but the other fans will notice for sure.

CBS has dropped the bombshell that Fire Country will have only 13 episodes in Season 5. The episode count is down from the 20 episodes in Season 4.

Fire Country has had at least a 20-episode order for all seasons except Season 2, but that was due to the writer's strike and SAG strikes. Getting a 13-episode order is a shocker because CBS has been killing it on Friday nights with Sheriff Country, Fire Country, and Boston Blue since last fall.

In fact, at the network’s unveiling of the fall schedule, Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach confirmed that Friday nights will stay intact with the three shows. However, with the news that Fire Country will be seven episodes shorter than Sheriff Country and Boston Blue, another series will join them on Friday nights at some point.

According to Deadline,Fire Country isn’t the only CBS show to face cuts so that the network can fit more dramas into the 2026/27 season. NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney were each given a 10-episode order, while Matlock got a 13-episode order and won’t air until mid-season.

News of the smaller episode count comes after it was revealed that Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano, who has been with the CBS drama from the beginning, is stepping down. Napolitano will be focusing on her own development deal with the network.

Season 4 of Fire Country wraps up on May 22. Fans are in for a treat ahead of the finale as Shawn Hatosy returns as Battalion Chief Richards in the May 15 episode and will be there to help end the season with a bang.

Parents, check your cabinets, as a popular baby formula has recently been recalled due to a possible health risk. The a2 Milk Company has issued a voluntary recall of three batches of its imported a2 Platinum Premium USA label infant formula for children ages 0 to 12 months.

The product was recalled due to the presence of cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. Preparing the formula with hot water does not eliminate it, a2 Milk Company said in a statement.

According to the Mayo Clinic, food poisoning from cereulide can cause vomiting or diarrhea, as well as nausea and abdominal pain or cramping. Though complications from it are rare, severe vomiting or diarrhea can cause dehydration, which the medical center notes can be life-threatening. There is no treatment for it, though rest and lots of fluids are suggested. In extreme cases, medical providers may also suggest getting IV fluids. 

Three batches of the a2 milk-based powder with iron, all in 31.7oz tins, were recalled. Their batch numbers and expiration dates, which can be found on the bottom of the tin, are:

2210324609, expiration date: 1/21/2027
2210321712, expiration date: 1/15/2027

In total, 63,078 units were made of the affected product, with a2 estimating that 16,428 units were sold to consumers. The tins were sold nationwide in the United States on the a2 Milk Company website, on Amazon, and at Meijer stores. 

So far, there have been no reports of illness associated with the affected batches, but consumers are urged to not use the product. Furthermore, consumers who purchased the affected product are asked to discontinue use of it immediately, dispose of it, or return it to their point of purchase for a refund.

On May 3, 1970, a vivid story song about a barroom hustler gave Dave Dudley a milestone that would stand alone in his career.

“The Pool Shark” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, where it held the top spot for a week and spent 14 weeks overall on the chart. It would become his only chart-topper, even as he racked up dozens of other hits.

Released in February 1970 as the lead single from the album of the same name, the song was written by Tom T. Hall, one of country music’s great storytellers. And “The Pool Shark” plays out exactly like one of his signature narratives—less a song than a short film set to music.

It opens in a smoky roadside bar, where a traveling gambler sizes up what looks like an easy mark. The man is rough around the edges, “ugly” with “mean” eyes, but there’s something deceptive in the way he handles a cue stick. What starts as a casual game quickly turns into a high-stakes battle, with drinks flowing and a crowd gathering as the bets climb higher and higher.

For a while, it looks like the narrator is in control. He plays the part, even “like a man with a broken wrist,” trying to lure his opponent deeper into the game. But the tide turns quietly. The stranger upgrades his cue, raises the stakes, and reveals himself for what he is—a professional hustler who has been setting the trap all along.

By the end, it’s over. The narrator loses everything: $187, a ring and whatever pride he walked in with. The hustler leaves in style, driving off in a Cadillac with “a blonde built like the rest of that car,” while the loser is left with nothing but a drink and a hard lesson.

But in a final twist that gives the story its sting, the narrator shrugs it off and turns his attention to the waitress, delivering the song’s closing thought with a wink: unlucky in gambling, maybe—but still hopeful when it comes to love.

That blend of vivid storytelling and sharp character work is exactly what made “The Pool Shark” stand out. While Dudley was best known for his truck-driving anthems like “Six Days on the Road,” this song showed a different side, leaning fully into narrative in a way that stuck with listeners.

More than five decades later, it remains his only No. 1 hit.

Kacey Musgraves knows a thing or two about grabbing attention.

The Grammy Award-winning country star gave fans a look at the creative way she decided to promote her new album Middle of Nowhere on Sunday, May 3, sharing her antics via TikTok.

Dressed in an armadillo costume, Musgraves made her way to various stores—first Walmart, followed by Barnes and Noble then Target—in hopes to get her hands on her new drop. 

At Walmart, the 37-year-old perused the store, getting many odd looks from customers along the way. At one point, she even drops into an epic somersault. “Do you guys have the new Kacey Musgraves album?” she asked one associate, who hilariously replied, “I don’t recognize that name.” She was successful, however, finding an end-cap filled with the album, which she grabbed multiple copies of.

Moving onto Barnes & Noble, the “Happy & Sad” songstress made her way to the children’s section, where she ran and crawled through the area, greeting excited children who were interested in her unusual outfit. Before spotting her album, Musgraves grabbed a book about armadillos, giving it a quick read.

Finally at Target, Musgraves found the “new releases” shelf right away, filled with shirts and the album, which she excitedly clawed at. At the very end, she played dead in the parking lot, pretending to be roadkill after a busy day of shopping.

“Will you be in my drag show someday as the armadillo?” drag queen Pattie Gonia wrote in the comments of the video on Instagram.

“Armadillo by morning,” singer Jason Isbell replied.

Other responses from fans included, “I love whatever is wrong with you,” and “it’s the perfect mix of iconic & insane for me.”

Longtime Musgraves fans know this isn’t the first time she’s stepped out in the armadillo costume. The artist debuted the fun costume back on Halloween in 2024, posting a video on Instagram and TikTok at the time writing, “imagine ur talkin shii abt me and im just at home being an armadillo.”

Musgraves is promoting Middle of Nowhere on May 3, 4, and 5 at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, which will appropriately feature live armadillo races and face painting. She shared the flyer on her Instagram, prompting fans to come early around 4 pm.

Middle of Nowhere dropped on Friday, May 1, which includes hits like the lead single “Dry Spell” and “I Believe in Ghosts.” Her seventh album comes two years after Deeper Well, which won Best Country Song for "The Architect" at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The album featured collaborations with icons like Willie Nelsonand Miranda Lambert.

Sheriff CountrySeason 1 is going out with a bang that includes a guest appearance by a country superstar.

Maren Morrisreturns to CBS as a special guest star in the penultimate episode of the Fire Country spin-off inaugural season.

Not only will Morris guest star, but the “Chasing After You” hitmaker will debut an original song, “Parachute," which was specifically written for the Sheriff Country episode.

TVLinewas first to break the news, revealing that Morris comes onto the series as Skye’s (Amanda Arcuri) sponsor, Hazel. The outlet gave Sheriff Country fans a look at Hazel with Skye and also with Mickey (Morena Baccarin).

Other details for the episode reveal that Mickey is dealing with a high-profile case involving local land deals, illegal growers, and the cartel.

Morris’ episode will air on Friday, May 15, one week before the highly anticipated finale. As Parade reported, Baccarin warned fans that a “complete betrayal” goes down in the finale episode that shakes Mickey and her department to their core.

Having country sensation Morris on Sheriff Country follows in the footsteps of Fire Country, which has featured talented country singers on the series. Fire Country and Sheriff Country creator Max Thieriot, who also stars as Bode on Fire Country, opened up about tapping into the country music and acting scene.

“We've always loved bringing authentic voices from the music community into Fire Country, and that continues with Sheriff Country,” he declared to TV Line. Fire Country has featured Jelly Rolland Kane Brownin pivotal guest-starring roles on the CBS drama.

Thieriot went on to give Morris mad props and gush over her agreeing to be part of Sheriff Country.

"Maren is such a powerful storyteller and having her join us felt like a natural extension of that legacy. She brings a real emotional truth and presence that fits seamlessly into this world, and we can't wait for audiences to see what she does,” the actor stated.

In less than two weeks, Maren Morris joins Sheriff Country in a role fans won’t want to miss, especially since her new song drops in the episode.

“I’m not dead," she added. On the video, Wilde wrote, “Leave it to your little brother to give you the maximum amount of s---.”

Hudson, 25, and the legendary coach, 74, were photographed dressed to the nines as they made their way through the dirt on the horse track at Churchill Downs, the iconic venue for the Kentucky Derby. But as Hudson noted, this isn't the only muddy weather the duo has navigated in the past.

While Belichick may be the coach, Hudson is a seasoned competitor. She competes with her cheerleading team, Code Black, and is a frequent face in pageants, competing in the Miss Maine competition last year. Just last week, she shared a photo from a recent cheerleading competition as she and her Code Black teammates took home the championship in International Coed Non-Tumbling at Cheerleading Worlds in Florida on Saturday, April 25, PEOPLE reported.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a big assumption that most of us—not all, but most—are in some sort of natural rotation with the meals we make at home. The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is ongoing, now more than 90 days since authorities say that she was abducted from her Arizona home.

In an interview with KVOA, Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke out for the first time in weeks.

"The reward money is still there—it's there for a reason. We think somebody out there knows something. We know they do. We know someone out there knows what happened. Call us," Nanos said.

New updates in the case have been sparse as investigators continue working through tips, leads, and evidence. In the middle of April, ABC News reported that the FBI had been sent some DNA evidence from Guthrie's home after it was released by a lab in Florida. The DNA, said to be a hair sample, will undergo advanced testing in hopes of finding a match within CODIS—the FBI's database that stores DNA profiles from past offenders.

While the news certainly renewed the public's interest in the case, the Pima County Sheriff's Department made it clear that the hair wasn't a new development.

"PCSD has worked with the FBI since the beginning of the Guthrie investigation,” the statement, posted on X, read. "This is not new information. The private lab we utilize in Florida continues to share information with the FBI lab & other partner labs across the country. DNA analysis remains ongoing."

The statement marked the department’s first public update in nearly a month. With few major developments announced publicly, Sheriff Nanos has scaled back media appearances and stopped holding regular press conferences about the case.

What Was Hany Shaker's Cause of Death?

Shaker's cause of death has not been publicly shared, as of writing. However, Gulf News reported that the singer had been undergoing treatment for serious health issues. Symptoms reportedly included "severe colon bleeding" as well as respiratory issues, requiring blood transfusions and surgery. Before his death, Shaker reportedly exhibited signs of improvement. He then suffered respiratory failure and was admitted to intensive care.

Who Was Hany Shaker?

Shaker was born in Cairo on Dec. 21, 1952. In 1972, he launched his music career after composer Mohamed El Mougy discovered him. He went on to release over 600 songs on 29 albums.

Some of his most popular tracks included "Lessa Betis'Ali" (Are You Still Asking?), "Law Betheb" (If You Love), "Garhy Ana" (My Wound), "Ya Retny" (I Wish), "Heloua Ya Dounia" (Beautiful World), "Aly El Dahkaya" (On the Smile), and more.

It's been a chaotic weekend for the travel industry following Spirit Airlines’ immediate suspension of operations and wind-down of all activity. While other major carriers like American Airlines have begun implementing their own rescue plans, Delta Air Lines has launched a comprehensive series of measures specifically designed to help stranded passengers and displaced crew members reach their destinations.

If yIf you are currently holding a useless ticket and trying to figure out how to get home, Delta is offering a window of relief. The airline announced it is offering "reduced, nonrefundable fares in affected markets over the next five days to help travelers book last-minute travel". Notably, the airline is making these seats available even on flights that are nearing capacity to ensure travelers have options when space is limited.

These reduced rates are available across every domestic market where Spirit operated, covering both nonstop flights and one-stop connections through Delta's hubs. Furthermore, the airline has extended these options to all routes between the U.S. and Latin America where Spirit previously flew. Travelers looking to snag these fares should skip the third-party sites and book directly through the Delta app or at delta.com.

Lifelines for Spirit Team Members

The support also extends to the thousands of Spirit employees facing an incredibly difficult career transition. "We recognize this is a difficult moment for Spirit Airlines employees and are focused on offering assistance where we can," the airline stated. To help the workforce stay mobile, Delta is offering several forms of immediate aid:

• Standby Travel: Spirit pilots and flight attendants can access standby travel on Delta for the next 10 days, per existing agreements.
• Career Opportunities: Qualified Spirit employees are encouraged to apply for open roles at Delta via a dedicated careers microsite designed to flag their applications specifically for recruiters.

By moving quickly to lower barriers for both passengers and staff, Delta is aiming to provide a bit of stability during one of the most significant shifts in the airline landscape this year.

Eight years ago today, the most elite and prestigious organization in the film industry made a rare and bold move against Bill Cosby.

On May 3, 2018, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences sent shockwaves through Hollywood after expelling the actor and television producer as one of its members.

At the time, the organization announced that both Cosby and director Roman Polanski would be removed following the vote by the Academy’s Board of Governors for violating the standards of conduct.

What Did Bill Cosby Get Accused of Doing?

Back in 2004, Andrea Constand, a former staff member of Temple University, linked the host to sexually assaulting and drugging her at his suburban Philadelphia home.

After the incident was reported in 2005 and dismissed for insufficient evidence and after a civil lawsuit was filed in 2006 and reportedly settled out of court for an undisclosed amount, the case was reopened in 2015 following the release of hidden legal documents.

It was in 2018 that the retrial took place, resulting in Cosby being sentenced to three to 10 years in prison.

It was in 2021 when he was set free from prison after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction.

As for the acclaimed director known for his psychological thrillers like Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown, he was convicted of statutory rape involving a 13-year-old following his confession.

Cosby and Polanski weren't the only ones who were kicked out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The list includes renowned film producer Harvey Weinstein, who faced sexual assault accusations made by over 80 women.

Another is cinematographer Adam Kimmel, whose notable projects were the 2005 movie Capote and Never Let Me Go in 2010.

He was expelled as one of the members of the Academy after being arrested for sexual crimes involving underage girls in 2003 and 2010.

What Has Matthew McConaughey Said About Parenting?

McConaughey opened up about parenting on the April 21 episode of Bear Grylls Is Running Wild. The star, who also has a 13-year-old son named Livingston, discussed how important parenting is, saying the “greatest art” a man can create is being a “good father to a son or a daughter.”

“I think a man’s a prince until he has children, then he becomes a king. I don’t think there’s anything more important that a man can do,” he told Grylls. “In fact, man, we’re mortal. That’s the beginning of our immortality, and hopefully, we’re lucky enough for them to have offspring, and it continues to pass that down. I think that’s the greatest art that a man can make is being a good father to a son or a daughter.”
