‘M*A*S*H’ Star Mike Farrell Detailed How He Met Shelley Fabares Months Before Her Death: 'That Was the Beginning'

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:59pm

Mike Farrell and his family revealed on Aug. 24 that they are mourning the death of actor and singer Shelley Fabares, with the M*A*S*H star having spoken about how they met 42 years ago.

While the actor was known for the role of B.J. Hunnicutt on the acclaimed war comedy series, Fabares was known for her hit roles on The Donna Reed Show and Coach. It just so happens that their careers as actors are what led them to cross paths and fall in love. In April, Farrell appeared on an episode of the Still Here Hollywood Podcast where he went back to the moment a CBS dinner sparked their decades-long romance.

The actor explains that he and Fabares had run into each other on various occasions due to the nature of the business, and they were both working for Universal at the time. He recalls returning from speaking to refugees in El Salvador and attending a CBS dinner in San Fracnsisco that sparked a conversation with the Coach actor.

“I was just blitzed from having had this experience,” he said. “… I looked across the room, and there was this face I recognized, and I walked over to her and said, ‘Excuse me. I just would like you to know that every time I see you, I feel really good, and I feel a little calmer than I had been prior to that.’ And she said, ‘Mike, that’s very sweet, very nice of you.’”

While outside, a cable car had stopped in front of them, with Farrell asking the actor if she wanted to take a ride. He recalls Fabares telling him she couldn’t because she was “involved” with someone. As Fabares turned to walk away, “she turned back and she said, ‘Sure, why not?’”

The two actors went to Fisherman’s Wharf and walked along the coast as the M*A*S*H actor told Fabares about his recent experience in South America. He recalls her having been “patient and very sweet and very supportive.”

The two would meet again months later when he called Fabares to invite her to a talk he was giving about his experience in El Salvador. He had previously invited her and her partner to another talk, but this time Fabares called him back and said, “Is it OK if I bring my sister?” After the presentation, they went out for coffee and Fabares willingly revealed she had broken up with her boyfriend.

“I said, ‘Did you ever get that problem resolved?’” Farrell recalled. “I was going to say with her writers, and she said, ‘Oh, we’re not seeing each other anymore.’ And I said, ‘Oh. Well, that’s nice. So that was the beginning of now 42 years of marriage.”

Farrell and Fabares married on Dec. 31, 1984.

1972 Iconic Ballad, Covered by Roberta Flack, Is Still a Powerful Hit 54 Years Later

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:39pm

In 1972, Janis Ian recorded a quietly devastating song about waiting for someone who may never come home.

Written entirely by Ian, “Jesse” appeared on her album Stars, capturing longing and loneliness through intimate images of an empty house and preparations for a hoped-for reunion.

“I was 14 or 15 when I started that song,” Ian told Songfacts. “Originally Jesse was going to be about a Vietnam War vet coming home. But then that was limiting.”

The song would soon take on a life beyond Ian’s own recording when Roberta Flack delivered a celebrated interpretation that brought it to a much larger audience.

Ian was already an accomplished songwriter by then.

She had first attracted national attention as a teenager with “Society’s Child,” her controversial 1960s song about an interracial relationship. By the early ’70s, her songwriting had become increasingly introspective, and “Jesse” offered an early glimpse of the deeply personal style that would later produce her career-defining hit “At Seventeen.”

“I usually let the song dictate what it becomes,” Ian told Guitar Noise. “I’m a big believer in the marriage of talent and craft; Stella Adler always said ‘Trust your talent.’ and I do, infinitely. But I also trust my craft to see me through the rough spots.”

Flack recognized something special in “Jesse.”

The singer recorded the song for her 1973 album Killing Me Softly, which arrived during an extraordinary period in her career. Rather than radically reinvent Ian’s composition, Flack leaned into its emotional core, allowing her expressive vocal to bring new weight to the narrator’s plea for Jesse to return.

Her rendition found a receptive audience.

Released as a single in 1973, Flack’s “Jesse” reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed into the Top 20 on Billboard’s Easy Listening chart. It arrived the same year that “Killing Me Softly With His Song” became one of Flack’s signature recordings, placing Ian’s composition on an album that would reach millions of listeners.

The connection between the two artists proved especially fitting.

Both Ian and Flack built careers around songs that favored emotional nuance over spectacle, and “Jesse” gave them an unusual shared entry in their catalogs. Ian continued performing the composition herself, ensuring that her intimate original remained closely tied to her own body of work even as Flack’s version introduced it to a broader audience.

“In the great scheme of everything comes full circle, when my wife and I met, she was telling me how much she loved this artist Roberta Flack, especially a song called ‘Jesse,'” Ian told OutSFL years later. “I said, ‘Oh, I wrote that.’ Pat immediately said, ‘No you didn’t. Roberta Flack wrote it. I said, ‘No, I wrote it, really wrote it,’ and we argued. I had to actually find a copy of the album, which was in storage, and show her the writer’s credit.”

Fifty-four years after Ian first recorded “Jesse,” its sense of yearning has lost little of its force. The 1972 ballad began as one songwriter’s understated portrait of absence, but Roberta Flack’s interpretation helped demonstrate just how universal that longing could become.

Larry David Reveals How Quitting 'SNL' Led to One of 'Seinfeld's Most Memorable Episodes

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:33pm

Nowadays, Larry David is of course synonymous with his work on NBC’s titanic sitcom Seinfeld and his later work on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Back in the mid 1980s, however, the up-and-coming TV icon was still a fledgling comedy writer struggling to make a name for himself, leading to his first big break on Saturday Night Live.

Joining the writing team for the hit sketch comedy series in 1984, David’s initial tenure at SNL was … checkered, to say the least.

While many of the show’s cast and crew found David’s sense of humor a unique addition to SNL‘s creative atmosphere, show producer Dick Ebersol, who at that time had taken over for the series’ original producer Lorne Michael, was hardly a fan.

As Vice reported, Ebersol repeatedly cut many of David’s sketches from the show, even those that garnered a laugh when the cast performed them during read-throughs.

After six weeks of this, David confronted Ebersol backstage, moments before that night’s episode of Saturday Night Live was set to go on the air.

“Ebersol had the headset on in the back near the monitor,” David recalled in 2017. “I walked up to him and I went, ‘This f***ing show stinks! It’s a piece of s**t. I’m done! I quit! F**k you!’ And that was it, and then I left.”

As David remembered it, however, he soon had second thoughts about his decision on his walk home. Bumping his co-worker Kenny Kramer (who would inspire Seinfeld’s Cosmo Kramer), David began telling his friend about exactly what had happened.

At the suggestion of Kramer, David decided to casually reverse course, returning to Saturday Night Live‘s backstage area on Monday and pretending that he hadn’t quit at all.

“I went into the meeting on Monday, I took a seat with all the writers,” David said. “They start going around the room asking each one what they’re doing. I said, I’m thinking about doing a sketch about a trapeze artist. And that was it.”

As anxiety-inducing as all this might be, David managed to turn the incident into a subplot for Seinfeld‘s early season, which sees George dramatically telling off his boss and quitting, only to return to his workplace and pretend the whole thing never happened.

1969 Hit Ranked the No. 2 'Greatest Bob Dylan Cover' of All Time

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:25pm

In 1969, Nina Simone covered a Bob Dylan song and included it on her studio album To Love Somebody. Though the track never charted, it is now considered one of the best covers of the folk legend’s music. In fact, it was ranked the No. 2 greatest Bob Dylan cover of all time on an expansive list of 80 titles.

The lineup, published by Rolling Stone, included several artists spanning decades and genres—from rock and R&B to soul and blues. It placed Simone’s rendition of “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” in the second spot, coming in under only The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “All Along the Watchtower” (1968) in the top No. 1 ranking. (Dylan himself reportedly said to Hendrix, “I don’t know if anyone has done my songs better,” according to the famed music publication).

The two musicians reportedly first met on the New York folk circuit in the early 1960s, and Simone covered several of Dylan’s tracks throughout her career. “This Highway 61 Revisited song is one of three Dylan numbers she included on her 1969 LP To Love Somebody,” the outlet noted. “Her piano gives it a soft, shuffling rhythm and her vocal is gentle and exploratory—where Dylan rambled across the countryside he sang about, Simone floats.”

The tune tells the sad story of the writer’s experiences in Juarez, Mexico, where he encounters pain, poverty, sickness, addiction, and despair before deciding to head back to NYC. “Well I started out on burgundy / But soon hit the harder stuff / Everybody said they’d stand behind me / When the game got rough / Oh, but the joke was on me / There was noone there even to bluff / I’m going back to New York City / I do believe I’ve had enough,” the hauntingly vulnerable lyrics express, per Genius.

Simone’s entry joins plenty of other Dylan covers from over the decades, including The Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man” (1965), Elvis Presley’s “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” (1966), and Guns N’ Roses’ “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” (1991).

‘Wonder Years’ Star Alley Mills Shares Emotional Details About Husband’s Death After He Was Hit by 2 Cars

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:20pm

Alley Mills, who is best known for her role on The Wonder Years, just shared a heartbreaking story about her husband Orson Bean‘s death.

Mills, 75, played the beloved role of Norma Arnold in The Wonder Years, the coming-of-age comedy series starring Fred Savage and Danica McKellar. Mills has also had tremendous success in the soap opera world, starring on The Bold and the Beautiful and General Hospital. But in a revealing new interview on The Mark Joseph Show on Aug. 21, Mills shared a horrific story about her husband’s death, noting that she cradled Bean’s body for “hours” after he was hit by 2 cars.

Bean, a successful actor in his own right, was struck by a vehicle while walking in Venice, Calif., in February 2020, Entertainment Weekly shared. When he was on the ground, a second car hit him while he was down, killing him.

While Mills tried to resuscitate him, Bean had already died. He was 91.

“He was long gone, but your heart keeps beating, which I didn’t know,” she said. “So I gave him mouth-to-mouth and, you know, there was blood everywhere, but he was gone.”

“They put a tent over me because there were a lot of helicopters overhead and everything, and they let me hold him for four hours,” Mills recalled.

Her Husband Died on Impact

Mills soon got a call from the surgeon who performed Bean’s autopsy, who clarified that he “was totally killed on impact” and “did not suffer at all.”

“He had a great life, and he died instantly,” she continued, calling him her “guardian angel.”
“It was just brutal to see, but it wasn’t brutal for him. And that’s what really mattered to me.”

Does The Wonder Years Cast Stay in Touch?

Yes! Last year, Access Hollywood caught up with Mills and Olivia D’Abo, who played free-spirited Karen on the series.

“When we met for the audition, she had no bra…” Alley recalled D’Abo, whose character was always free-wheeling.

D’Abo added, “I was in character!”

Mills continued, “She had this silk top on with no back, and it was flapping, and I literally, I started blushing, and they said, ‘I think we’re done, I think we got it.”

‘America’s Got Talent’ Golden Buzzer Winner Fears 14 Million Followers Won’t Be Enough for Live Shows (Exclusive)

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 12:05pm

When Mackenzie Sol was just four years old, he auditioned for Simon Cowell for the British version of The X-Factor. It was a fun audition, but it couldn’t go anywhere because in reality, artists needed to be 16 years old to compete on the TV show.

But it’s a day that Mackenzie never forgot because it was the day that he decided he was destined to be singer.

“I know I was four years old, but it’s a feeling I had that I still have to this day when it comes to music,” the 25-year-old from Northern England told Parade in this exclusive interview. “It’s the feeling that I got that day when I walked into the room when I was four years old. That feeling just doesn’t go away. The love for music is the drive, the passion. I think that moment on The X Factor was just the start of it all.”

So, when Mackenzie auditioned for America’s Got Talent this year, he was hoping that not only would Simon recognize him, but that he would award him a Golden Buzzer. Sadly, just before Mackenzie was set to perform, Simon gave his second and final Golden Buzzer for the season to another artist.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

“When I found out Simon Cowell didn’t have any Golden Buzzers left to give, at that point I was like, ‘OK. Let’s just get four yeses to make it the next round.’ Mackenzie recalls. “And then Mel B says [‘I think you are absolutely, extraordinarily fabulous’] and presses the Golden Buzzer, it was so unexpected. It was such an incredible feeling; it was such an incredible moment for me.”

For tonight’s Live Show performance, Mackenzie has decided to win over the audience by performing a pop song to which he will add Soul and Motown influences, because those are his favorite types of music. He is hoping that that will be enough to make him one of the four out of 11 acts that get voted into the semifinals, but he is concerned about one thing: Nerves.

“I just need to compose myself before I go on because I’ve been down this road before and nerves get to me and it’s ruined things for me, so I really need to keep my composure and just do what I’m meant to do,” he says.

Following is more of our chat with Makenzie about what he’s doing to calm his nerves, why his enormous social media following might not be enough to get him voted through to the semifinals, what American Idol taught him, and more.

In the Live Shows, you are concerned about your nerves. What are you planning to do to make sure that they don’t get the best of you?
So, in rehearsals yesterday — and I’ve actually never done this before — I walked around the whole theater. I just stood in every different part of the theater just to get used to it because I’m like, ‘OK, let’s make this place feel like home. This is what I need to do. I just need to make this place feel like home.’ I’ve been here before. I’ve been hanging out, and I just walked around the whole theater, standing there for a few seconds, getting to know each part of that theater. It might be kind of weird, but it’s been helping me so far.

In the past you’ve talked about your influences being Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, James Brown, and Sam Cooke, but you auditioned with a Sombr song — “back to friends” — which is more indie pop. What direction are you going?
I know people love all this new pop music and all the songs that are going, so for the next round, I’m actually doing another pop song. I don’t want to say what it is here, but I am doing another pop song. I’m taking these songs, and I want to flip them and give them a soulful me rendition. “back to friends,” how I sang it, it was completely different than how the actual track came out. I slowed it down, I did some different riffs and runs, I changed it up to be me, and that’s what I’m going to try, but 10 times more with this next song.

I think by the end of AGT, when I go into the studio and start sitting down and writing stuff, I really want to push towards that soul and Motown meets pop mix kind of thing, keeping those live guitars, keeping that soulful feel. I want to just make sure I keep that soul and Motown feel [in] whatever I do, whether it’s a cover or whether it’s an original, just put that in whatever I’m doing.

Related: Who Magically Won Howie Mandel’s America’s Got Talent 2026 Live Golden Buzzer Last Night?

Do you have any thoughts about doing an original? People tend to like cover songs because they’re familiar with them, but some people have done well with originals.
I think if I get through this next round, there might be an original. It’s been on my mind.

I saw you on American Idol, and you’ve done a lot of other professional gigs as well. What are you hoping will happen with AGT, whether you win or not?
Other things I’ve done in the past, I’ve kind of just done it and gone back to creating these silly viral videos, because it was my income. The reason I blew up and got a big social media following was because of these comedy videos, but it’s not who I am. It pays the bills. It’s expensive to live in L.A., and I had to find something that kept me out here. And these viral videos got me branding deals and all that stuff and it’s what I needed to survive. So, hopefully wherever I finish, I’m going to stick to music. I’m going to really push the music no matter what and I think that’s something different that I haven’t done before.

You have 12 million followers on TikTok and 2 million on Instagram!
It’s just completely different. Kids go on [and watch] and in every scene, kids want to see me bang my head off a cabinet door. It’s hard to take that and say, “We’re going into this now.” It’s going to be a slow burn changing it up.

Do you think your followers will vote for you on America’s Got Talent?  With that kind of social media following, it would seem you would have a lot of voters.
I’m hoping so. I’m really hoping so. I’m going to do what I can do. Push the way I can push and just hope, but again you never know what’s going to happen because it’s all kids that follow me, so you don’t know if you can get them. I’m just going to do my best.  I’m going to push for my votes.

I think also being a Golden Buzzer helps.
I definitely think it adds pressure, too; that can go both ways. Because everyone’s expecting something insane. So, that’s already some pressure on top of people who just went through. So, obviously it’s incredible I got the Golden Buzzer, but people are expecting something great, so it’s also more pressure. I need to really bring it. Step it up.

I was watching back your audition. Who was that in the audience crying?
That’s my grandpa. He’s never been out doing anything like this, so it’s big for him. That was probably one of the highlights of his life. He’s never seen his grandson doing anything like that. He knows I’ve pushed for this my whole life, but he’s never witnessed something as incredible as that.

You were on American Idol and made it to the Top 20. How did that experience help you?  Did you learn anything that’s helping you with AGT?
I think as a performer going into other shows, I had not had a lot of experience. I’ve done a few karaoke things and stuff like that. After that, I started to  book a few more gigs and started singing a lot more, so I think I’m going into this with more experience as far as singing live. Hopefully that’s going to benefit me in the best way.

America’s Got Talent performances take place Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Results are revealed on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Both stream the following day on Peacock.

1976 No. 1 Hit by Chicago Ranked Among 'Greatest Soft Rock Songs' of All Time

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 11:56am

Chicago’s 1976 classic “If You Leave Me Now” continues to stand out decades after becoming the band’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song has been ranked at No. 53 on Amazon Music’s “100 Greatest Soft Rock Songs” list, placing the Chicago ballad among some of the genre’s most recognized recordings.

Written and sung by Peter Cetera, “If You Leave Me Now” was released as a single from Chicago X on July 30, 1976. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Oct. 23, 1976, where it stayed for two weeks. It spent 21 weeks on the chart and became the first of Chicago’s three No. 1 hits.

The success of the song was an important moment for the band. Chicago had already released several major hits, but “If You Leave Me Now” gave the group its first trip to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The band later returned to No. 1 with “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” in 1982 and “Look Away” in 1988.

“If You Leave Me Now” also reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s Easy Listening chart and became Chicago’s biggest international hit.

The story behind “If You Leave Me Now” makes its success even more remarkable.

Chicago was known for mixing rock music with horns, jazz, classical music, R&B and pop. The band was formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967 and became known for its large sound and brass section. Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider and Danny Seraphine made up the group’s original lineup.

But “If You Leave Me Now” took the band in a softer direction.

The song was written by Cetera, who also sang lead vocals. He originally wrote it around the same time as Chicago VII’s “Wishing You Were Here” and composed it on guitar. The lyrics center on a person trying to stop someone they love from leaving.

The song’s sound was also different from much of Chicago’s earlier material. It featured acoustic guitar and a softer arrangement built around Cetera’s voice.

The track was recorded live with the musicians playing together, according to Cetera’s 1991 compilation Group Portrait. Cetera sang while James William Guercio played acoustic guitar, Robert Lamm played piano, Terry Kath played bass guitar and Danny Seraphine played drums. Cetera later recorded his vocal again, while Kath added electric guitar parts.

The song was so different from Chicago’s usual sound that Walter Parazaider once heard it on the radio and did not immediately realize it was his own band. According to Far Out Magazine, he recalled thinking “it sounded like McCartney.”

That softer approach became one of the reasons the song stood apart in Chicago’s catalog. The song’s chart performance was followed by major recognition.

“If You Leave Me Now” won Chicago its first Grammy Award. It received the award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus. The recording also won Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) for arranger Jimmie Haskell and producer James William Guercio. It was also nominated for Record of the Year.

By August 1978, the single had sold 1.4 million copies in the United States alone. It was later certified gold and platinum by the RIAA.

The recording has also received recognition in later years. In 2020, The Guardian placed it at No. 73 on its list of “The Greatest UK No 1s: 100–1,” describing the song as “impossibly lush and beautifully written, but its sadness is pervasive and affecting.”

The song also remains tied to Chicago’s legacy as one of the group’s most successful and recognizable recordings.

Chicago has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and remains one of the most successful American bands in Billboard and RIAA history. The original lineup was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, while the group received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.

The band also lost founding member Walter Parazaider in June 2026. Parazaider, who played woodwinds and was part of Chicago’s famous brass and woodwind section, contributed to many of the band’s best-known songs.

Sharna Burgess Reveals Her Son’s Adorable Reaction to Her ‘DWTS’ Return

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 11:54am

Sharna Burgess is returning to Dancing with the Stars with a new fan.

The Australian professional dancer, 41, announced Monday that she’d be returning to the ballroom dance competition show this season and shared in an Extra TV interview that five years after her departure, her son Zane will be one of her biggest supporters.

“He loves watching mama dance,” she said. “He is in this space at the moment of wanting to go to rehearsals with me and see all the things. He loves it.”

Burgess who left the show in 2021 after Season 30 — with a mirrorball trophy under her belt thanks to her Season 27 win with Bobby Bones — shared that Zane, 4, whom she shares with her most recent DWTS partner, Brian Austin Green, brings a whole new definition to “bring your kid to work.”

“He even packs his own rehearsal bag,” she added. “It’s his ‘work stuff,’ we call it. He’s going to work like mama. He’s going to dance rehearsal and talks about all the dance he’s going to do on stage.”

And while her son’s enthusiasm is perhaps great motivation as the show’s September 15 premiere date approaches, Burgess also shared that she’s learning to balance motherhood while training to get back in dancing shape.

“I am adjusting to a new kind of schedule,” she said. “Last time I did this job, I was single with two dogs, and it’s a very different reality for me now.”

“I’m working out really hard. I’m incredibly fit, but dance fit is a different thing,” she added. “So I am working my butt off to get that [back] too. And then back in the training ground of choreographing and music and all those sorts of things that I love [and] haven’t got to express for a little while. So it’s amazing.”

As we’re just weeks away from Season 35 getting underway, a few cast and pairing announcements have been made — like pro Witney Carson being partnered with Jimmy Kimmel Live! sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez, and reality stars like Ciara Miller and Maura Higgins joining the lineup. Burgess stayed mum on any details of her own.

“I feel that if I say a single thing, I’m going to give it away,” she said of who her celebrity partner is.

Sandra Bullock Reveals Why She 'Pulled the Plug' on Acting During Bryan Randall's ALS Battle

Years after the death of her partner Bryan Randall from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Sandra Bullock is revealing what happened behind the scenes and what made her step back from acting during his diagnosis.

In August 2023, Randall’s family announced the photographer had died from complications related to RLS. They also revealed that he had decided to keep his diagnosis private, with Bullock speaking up about feeling “isolated” amid his declining health in an episode of the SmartLess podcast.

The Miss Congeniality actor revealed that amid his ALS battle, there was one instance that had her “pulling the plug” and stepping away from Hollywood for a while. While working on the 2022 action comedy film, The Lost City, Bullock admits it was a “horror show.”

“When Bryan got sick, after Lost City, I was like, ‘I can’t.’ I thought I was going to have a little bit of a mental issue. I was like, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I can’t,'” she explained.

“I came for the reshoot on a couple of hours’ sleep and I remember walking in and everyone went, ‘What, what, did you not sleep?!’” she added. “I looked so bad, and when I say so bad, like my face, it was horrific. I could maybe manage four hours of the reshoot and they were like, ‘Can you just give us [another take]?’ I was like, ‘I can’t, I can’t, I’ve got to go home.’ And I went home.”

The actor says production spent copious amounts of money to “fix” and edit her face to look like previously shot scenes for the film. It was that experience that had Bullock realize she needed to take a break from acting, and she explained, “I said I can’t anymore. I have nothing to give right now. Nothing. Zero.”

The Lost City was one of Bullock’s last on-screen roles, alongside a small role in Bullet Train, before Randall’s death. In the podcast, Bullock also opened up about honoring Randall’s wishes to keep his ALS diagnosis private and how it “isolated” her until she confided in a few close friends to deal with the emotional toll.

As Randall’s ALS progressed, the actor added, “I think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed.” She also had a difficult conversation telling their shared children about the reality of the photographer’s illness.

Lindsay Clancy Trial Update: Why She's Unlikely to Be Found Guilty, According to a Legal Expert

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 11:46am

The Lindsay Clancy trial is nearing its conclusion, but a legal expert believes prosecutors could face an uphill battle when it comes to securing a guilty verdict.

Clancy’s defense and the prosecution have now presented their cases, and the trial has reached the rebuttal stage. As jurors prepare to weigh the evidence and arguments presented in court, the question of Clancy’s mental state remains central to the case.

Will Lindsay Clancy Be Found Guilty?

Neama Rahmani, a legal analyst and former federal prosecutor, is weighing in on what could happen when the jury begins deliberating—and he believes there is a significant possibility that Clancy could be acquitted.

“I don’t think there is any real possibility that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is going to be able to get a guilty verdict in this case,” Rahmani told People. “In Massachusetts, the burden is on the prosecution to prove criminal responsibility beyond a reasonable doubt. In Massachusetts, the prosecution has to prove that Lindsay Clancy is not insane. So, if there is any reasonable doubt that Lindsey Clancy is insane, the jurors have to acquit.”

Will Lindsay Clancy Walk Free if She’s Acquitted?

The simple answer to this question is no.

Legal expert Margaret McLean, host of The Margaret McLean Show, previously told Parade that Clancy would likely be institutionalized.

““Massachusetts law does not simply allow her to walk free,” McLean said.

“Her case would be shifted to a structured civil commitment process overseen by both the court and numerous mental health experts,” McLean continued. “Unlike a prison sentence, a ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ commitment has no maximum end date. If Clancy’s severe mental illness is deemed chronic and dangerous, she can legally remain institutionalized for the rest of her life.”

Did Lindsay Clancy Admit to Killing Her Kids?

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, is facing three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

Clancy’s defense has confirmed that she admitted to killing her three children using exercise bands in the basement of the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home. However, she has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with her defense arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was taking several different medications that have serious side effects.

On the night that Cora, Dawson and Callan were murdered, Clancy sent her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, to CVS and to pick up dinner at a restaurant nearby. While he was gone, the prosecution alleges that she strangled each of her children before slashing her wrists and her throat, and jumping out a second story window of her home in an apparent suicide attempt. The incident left Lindsay paralyzed from the waist down.

The case, then, isn’t simply about whether Clancy is found guilty or not guilty. If the jury accepts her insanity defense, another legal process would begin, one that could keep her under psychiatric supervision long after the trial itself is over.

1965 Pop Song, Written By Paul McCartney, Became a No. 1 Hit That Revived a Singer's Career

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 11:45am

In the mid-60’s, Paul McCartney was having a frustrating long-distance relationship that led him to write “You Won’t See Me,” which became a No. 1 hit on the charts for another artist years later.

McCartney was 20-years-old when he began dating actor Jane Asher, who was 17, in 1963. She was already a well-known star who was sent by Radio Times to cover the Beatles’ appearance at a BBC concert called Swinging Sound ’63. It was reported that McCartney had immediately noticed her and soon started a relationship.

A few years later, the Beatles worked on their 1965 album, Rubber Soul, with McCartney penning “You Won’t See Me” about his relationship. It was said that Asher wanted to continue pursuing her career on screen and on stage and was offered to appear in a production at the Bristol Old Vic theatre. Both their careers put a strain on the relationship, with McCartney wanting Asher to focus more on his life and stay home.

McCartney penned the track as a result of his inability to contact her and the demand in both their career. They would ultimately break up in 1968.

The band had an all-night session during the final day of working on the album, and were on a time crunch as they still needed three more tracks. “You Won’t See Me” ended up being recorded in two takes, with McCartney reporting it was a “very Motown-flavoured” sound with a “James Jamerson feel.”

“This was written around two little notes,” he explained for Paul McCartney: Many Years From Now, “a very slim phrase, a two-note progression that I had very high on the first two strings of the guitar: the E and the B strings. I had it high up on the high E position, and I just let the note on the B string descend a semitone at a time, and kept the top note the same, and against that I was playing a descending chromatic scale.”

“To me it was very Motown-flavoured,” he continued. “It’s got a James Jamerson feel. He was the Motown bass player, he was fabulous, the guy who did all those great melodic bass lines. It was him, me and Brian Wilson who were doing melodic bass lines at that time, all from completely different angles, L.A., Detroit and London, all picking up on what each other did.”

The Beatles’ version of the song failed to enter the charts as it was never released as a standalone single. In 1974, it resurged in popularity when country/pop singer Anne Murray released her own cover. Her version of “You Won’t See Me” is the only one to ever enter the charts and landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart and No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The cover wasn’t only a chart-topper, but was also tagged as having revived Murray’s career. She hadn’t had a hit in four years at the time, after tracks like “Danny’s Song” and “He Things I Still Care,” and found the Beatles song in a box of cassette tapes marked “Listen to Again.”

“Four years is quite a long time between hit songs,” says Murray, according to A Journal of Musical Things. “At least it was in those days. As an artist, you do start to get a bit uneasy, but I had also just become a mother for the first time, so I had other things on my mind. Sometimes that works well because you’re not as nervous or scared and scrambling. ‘You Needed Me’ just seemed to come into my life at the right moment, and everything else aligned.”

A great kitchen isn’t just about what’s sitting on the counters — it’s about the little details that make the space feel warm, inviting, and comfortable to use. Just like a well-placed runner can transform a hallway or a textured rug can anchor a living room, the right kitchen mat can add softness, define open spaces, and make everyday routines a little more enjoyable. Because when you’re spending time standing at the sink washing dishes, prepping meals, or waiting for dinner to simmer, your feet deserve comfort.

Walmart is making it easy to add that finishing touch with The Pioneer Woman 100% Jute Scallop Kitchen Rug, priced at just $19. With its natural woven texture, charming scalloped border, and farmhouse-inspired look, this rug can bring style and function to one of the busiest areas of the home.

Hand-braided from 100% jute, this rectangular kitchen rug highlights the warm honey and wheat variations that make the natural material so appealing, while a soft pink border adds an unexpected pop of color. The border extends into oversized scalloped edges, creating a gentle, wavy silhouette that softens the woven jute’s structured look. The scalloped trim taps into one of today’s biggest home decor trends, giving the rug a playful, cottage-inspired finish that feels right at home in vintage farmhouse, grandmillennial, and coastal-inspired spaces. Double squares of coordinating braided trim frame the center panel for a final touch.

Measuring 20 by 34 inches with a non-slip backing, the rug is sized perfectly for high-traffic kitchen spots like in front of the sink, stove, prep island, or coffee station — anywhere you spend extra time standing while cooking, cleaning, or getting meals ready. The tightly woven construction creates a dense, durable surface designed to handle everyday foot traffic while adding warmth and texture to hard flooring like tile, hardwood, or laminate.

The neutral jute base pairs perfectly with wood cabinetry, rattan storage, and butcher block countertops, while the muted pink border coordinates with floral linens, vintage-inspired ceramics, or other pieces from The Pioneer Woman collection. For a layered look, place it in front of or on top of a larger kitchen runner or near a cushioned mat, mixing prints and colors.

While it’s designed with the kitchen in mind, this rug’s compact size also makes it a charming addition to other high-traffic areas like a laundry room, mudroom, entryway, or vanity. Because of its natural texture, spot cleaning is recommended to help preserve both the braided construction and color over time.

This “absolutely adorable” and “cozy” rug “brightens up” any space, according to Walmart shoppers. “It’s the perfect size and the pink detailing adds just enough color without it being too loud,” one reviewer wrote.

Sam Waterson Returns to TV in a New Role Following His Departure From 'Law & Order'

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 11:09am

Sam Waterson may have hung up his briefcase as District Attorney Jack McCoy in Law & Order, but he’s ready to return to NBC in a new role for an upcoming September series.

The Law & Order alum, 85, will star in a guest role in the network’s drama series, Line of Fire. Executive produced by Jenna Bush Hager, Deadline confirmed the actor will appear alongside Campbell Scott and Chris Chall. Waterson’s new role comes two years after the actor exited his longstanding role in Law & Order, after more than 400 episodes.

Deadline reports that Waterson will appear as former President Thomas Barnes, who has a close relationship with Line of Fire’s main character, Secret Service agent Mike Hollingsworth (Peter Krause). Details reveal that Mike and his family of law enforcement officers are on a mission to track down an assassin.

Line of Fire follows the family led by Mike and Jane Hollingsworth (Hope Davis) as they “bridge personal differences and cross professional boundaries” to tackle a series of tough cases for “the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and Department of Justice.”

“After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code,” reads the official logline.

Every case hits home. #LineOfFire premieres September 21 on NBC and next day on Peacock. pic.twitter.com/QsnkY6HsiP

— NBC Entertainment (@nbc) August 20, 2026

Alongside Waterson, Chalk will play the role of current President Kayana, with Scott playing the role of Terry, a U.S. senator and boyfriend to Davis’ Jane. Line of Fire also stars Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, and Taylor Bloom.

The drama series will be a return to TV for the Law & Order alum who joined the beloved NBC show in 1994. The network announced in 2024 that the actor would be stepping away from his role as Jack McCoy after 30 years. He once commented that he still sometimes tunes into the series, but life since leaving has been “beautiful.”

Since starring in Law & Order, Waterson appeared as his character in various spinoff series connected to the franchise. He also had roles in series like The Newsroom as Charlie Skinner, Grace and Frankie for Netflix, and Godless. The Dropout was his last credited TV role before leaving Law & Order.

Line of Fire is scheduled to premiere on NBC on Sept. 21, 2026, at 10/9c.

1973 Epic Barbra Streisand Masterpiece That Took 33 Takes to Finish, Remains One of The Best Film Songs Ever

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 10:47am

When Barbra Streisand entered the studio to record the theme for her 1973 romance drama co-starring Robert Redford, The Way We Were, no one expected the session to turn into a test of endurance for both the singer and session players.

Composer Marvin Hamlisch had crafted a soaring song with unforgettable words by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. However, capturing the film’s emotional weight dictated that Streisand sound a certain way.

According to The Barbra Archives, Streisand and the studio musicians recorded 33 separate takes of “The Way We Were.” Carol Kaye, who famously played bass with The Wrecking Crew, performed on the recording.

She said, “We ran down the music for any mistakes and took a break waiting for Barbra; she was pretty late. The huge orchestra finally assembled from our break, and we did 33 straight takes of ‘The Way We Were’ with Barbra singing every one, with Marvin Hamlisch conducting, and the songwriting team (Marilyn and Alan Bergman) in the booth.”

Kaye continued, “Take after take, we kept going, each take as intensive as the last one, until I looked at Paul Humphrey the drummer, like, ‘When is this going to end?’ After a few arpeggios, especially in the bridge, it felt like ‘the’ take. “

The musician concluded, “I looked up and caught Ms. Streisand’s fast gaze from her little sound booth as she was holding a long note (through the glass window) our eyes locked like, ‘Wheeeee. This is it,’ and finished the take. Paul looked at me, and we both smiled, having played on a lot of hits together. We knew this was the take, too.”

“The Way We Were” ranked as one of the Best Film Songs Ever by U Discover Music in 2026. It landed between 1973’s “Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney and Wings for the film of the same name, and Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door by Bob Dylan for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

Songfacts reported that “The Way We Were” was originally written to begin with the lyric “Daydreams.” However, Streisand changed the wording to “Memories,” and altering it even further to two syllables, “Mem’ries.”

“The Way We Were” soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1974 where it remained for three weeks. Additionally, it won an Academy Award in the category of Best Original Song and remains Barbra Streisand’s signature track.

How's Bruce Willis Doing Today? Family Member Offers an Unexpected Health Update

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 10:37am

Bruce Willis is happy.

The actor, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in early 2023, is doing okay, all things considered. In a candid interview with People magazine, Willis’ daughter Rumer Willis shared an unexpected update on her dad.

“What’s been interesting having a family member with dementia, it’s like, he’s happy. As well as someone could be doing, given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” she told the outlet. “When I get to see him, he sees me and [daughter] Louetta and he starts smiling. So, there’s so much love and joy and tenderness that still exists there. And in terms of that, I would say that’s a huge win.”

“And the fact that we still have him, you know?” the singer/actress added.

In 2025, Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared that the family made the difficult decision to move the Die Hard star into a home nearby where he receives the care that he needs in a “calm and serene atmosphere,” according to People.

“We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs,” Heming Willis told the outlet. “The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing.”

These days, the whole family is just grateful for the time they have with the beloved actor.

“The most important thing for me is that I’m so grateful that I have this time with him for however many years it may be,” Rumer told People. “I’m grateful that he seems generally wonderful and, given all of the givens of our situation, that our family is just so loving and together.”

Bruce may struggle with memory and language, but he’s still able to do a lot of things, too. Earlier this month, he attended his daughter Tallulah Willis’ wedding, for example.

There’s no shortage of love in the Willis family, that’s for sure.

Sacha Baron Cohen's Legendary Alter Ego Returns for a New 'Documentary'

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 10:35am

One could argue Sacha Baron Cohen finally achieved mainstream Hollywood success with the dawn of Borat in 2006. After all, it received an Oscar nomination the following year.

But before that “glorious” character and even Bruno, there was Ali G — as his loyal fanbase is well aware. Da Ali G Show was a cult-favorite phenomenon on the small screen, a British satirical sketch comedy series that launched at the dawn of the millennium.

Now, Ali G is back in peak Cohen fashion. Just like he shocked the entertainment world with a surprise Borat sequel earlier this decade, shot secretly during the COVID era, the 54-year-old comedian has brought back his infamous (fictitious) hip-hop journalist with an unexpected new “documentary” (as Ali G dubs it).

An official trailer dropped for Ali G: Who Iz I? on Tuesday, August 25. “Yo check out de trailer for me new movie, Ali G: Who Iz I? It got nuff sick tings, but u’ll have to watch de hole film to find out if me hactually died makin it. Only in dem cinemas October 23nd. #AliGWhoIzI,” reads the YouTube upload’s caption.

The caption continues, “After twenty years spent “chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’”, Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is 8 months pregnant. Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child’s very existence.”

Fans have since flooded the trailer’s comments section to express their excitement for the upcoming release. “Can’t wait, original is a classic!” wrote one YouTube user, while another person commented, “Happy to see the king the great …ALI G.”

News first leaked that Cohen would be making another Ali G project in July and he was spotted in character attending Wimbledon, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Ali G: Who Iz I? marks Cohen’s directorial debut and hits theaters October 23.

Howie Mandel Reveals He 'Almost Died' From Self-Medicating Incident During the Pandemic

Tue, 08/25/2026 - 10:33am

Howie Mandel is opening up about a harrowing incident in his life that nearly had fatal consequences.

During. arecent appearance on Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast, the 70-year-old Mandel discussed how his struggles with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder led to a dangerous situation during the COVID-19 pandemic (via Entertainment Weekly).

“I’m medicated and I have a lot of therapy,” the TV host explained. “I have such a fear of those lows, because they’re incredibly painful and hard to navigate, so my life consists of trying to balance up here and manage the medication.”

“I’ve medicated myself, and I’m talking about prescription medication, I’m not self-medicating, though I did that during COVID and I almost died,” Mandel bluntly explained. “So, I’m medicated. I’m surrounded by professionals.”

In particular, Mandel said that his germaphobe lifestyle led to a severe spike in anxiety when it came to the pandemic, forcing him to turn to alternative means of medication, such as consuming gummies, drinking and smoking.

“I’m sober right now, but during the pandemic I couldn’t sleep because part of my rumination is — I make fun of it — but I’m a germaphobe, and a pandemic? I live like I’m in a pandemic anyhow. When there’s a real one, it was hard for me to handle,” Mandel said. “It was hard for a lot of people, but I wasn’t strong enough to handle it. I couldn’t sleep, so I started taking gummies to go to sleep.”

In the end, Mandel said that he had to stop self-medicating all together, owing to an especially alarming incident when his wife offered to take him to the hospital.

“There were times when my wife, she couldn’t wake me up or she thought she was going to take me to the hospital,” Mandel said. “There’s no middle ground with me. I don’t smoke or I haven’t had a beer, anything, I can’t do anything in moderation. It wasn’t healthy and it wasn’t good. It’s not an excuse, but it was really bad.”

“Choosin’ Texas” first reached No. 1 in February and has continued to lead the chart while also posting strong numbers in streaming, radio airplay and sales.

The hit also held No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart for a 19th week and led Digital Song Sales for a 16th week. It rose from No. 6 to No. 5 on Radio Songs after previously reaching No. 4.

The song also remains a major force on Billboard’s country rankings. “Choosin’ Texas” has topped Hot Country Songs for 37 weeks and Songs of the Summer for 12 weeks.

Langley also has more than one song making an impact on the Hot 100. Her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” is in the top 10, while “Be Her” also remains among the chart’s biggest songs.

While “Choosin’ Texas” continues its historic run, Langley is also busy bringing her Dandelion Tour to fans across the United States.

Her recent shows have drawn large crowds. Per KIII TV, more than 9,000 fans attended her sold-out Aug. 14 concert at Hilliard Center in Corpus Christi. The event became the venue’s highest-attended concert since new management took over in June 2022.

Langley also performed in Little Rock, Arkansas, where another unexpected moment caught fans’ attention. Drake was spotted dancing and singing along during her performance of “Choosin’ Texas.”

The two artists later appeared to meet backstage as iHeart Country shared photos of the two smiling while talking together.

The Dandelion Tour continues with upcoming stops in Auburn, Newark, State College, Charleston, Oxford, Athens, Jacksonville, Knoxville, Columbus and other cities through October.

As “Choosin’ Texas” continues its record-setting run, her backstage moment with “Stayin’ Alive” gave supporters a fitting soundtrack for her 19th week at the top.
