'Dances With Wolves' Star Reveals the Wild Reason She Decided to Have Kids

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:40am

Mary McDonnell had been acting professionally for years. She had Obie Award on the shelf and was stacking up off-Broadway credits, but there was still something missing in her decision about whether she should have a child. Then one morning she read the New York Times in bed with her coffee, and that changed her mind.

'All right, we can have a kid now,' she told her then-husband, actor Randle Mell, on the phone that morning. He was in Washington doing a play. She was in bed. She'd just read a rave review of her performance as Nora in A Doll's House at Hartford Stage.

The 'Dances With Wolves' star opened up about the moment on The Sackhoff Show, hosted by her former Battlestar Galactica co-star Katee Sackhoff. Her husband's reaction to the call? 'Well, gee, well, great. That's all it took, huh?' She was pregnant about a month later.

It sounds impulsive. McDonnell says it was actually something deeper.

She and Mell had always known they wanted kids. He'd grown up in a big family, wanted children, was ready to go, but she was the uncertain one. 'Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think I want to have two someday,' was how she put it. The someday was the problem. She didn't know what had to happen first.

What had to happen, it turned out, was that she needed to believe she was 'legitimate'.

McDonnell came to acting in college, later than many of her peers, and spent years feeling like she was catching up. She'd racked up serious credits, including an Obie Award in 1981 for playwright Emily Mann's Still Life, a gut-punch docu-drama about Vietnam and Agent Orange, but the insecurity didn't end. The night after accepting the Obie, she was waitressing at a Greek restaurant in New York when a table of customers recognized her. 'Weren't you...didn't you get...' they stammered. The story still makes her laugh.

'I wasn't sure I was legitimate,' she told Sackhoff. The New York Times, she explained, was the arbiter of opinion in her family growing up. When the paper validated her work at Hartford Stage, something changed. 'It gave me a sense of security and a feeling of peace, which allowed me the room to think, well, maybe I can do it all.'

That peace didn't mean motherhood was easy once it arrived. McDonnell described the hardest part as leaving her children in the late afternoon to go prepare for evening performances, walking out the door as it got dark, the kids unsettled, dinner not yet on the table. 'That was the hardest thing for me,' she said, 'to separate from the children during the late afternoon, early evening.'

She sought therapy, leaned on help, and asked herself honestly whether what acting demanded of her was taking something essential away from her kids. 'Sometimes I wasn't sure,' she admitted.

What she was sure of that morning in 1986, NYT in hand, was that she'd finally stopped waiting for permission.

Are You 50? This Retirement Savings Strategy May Be the Perfect Way To Boost Your Money

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:32am

Once you hit 50, many people have a better idea of what their actual retirement budget will look like. For many, this becomes crunch time, when you're forced to take a long, hard look at how much money you're on track to save and whether it will actually be enough to float you through retirement.

Fortunately, for those in this age group, there's a specific savings strategy that can help you quickly increase your retirement savings while also limiting the amount of financial obligations you'll have when you retire, allowing you to stretch your money that much further. Keep reading to find out what it is and how you can get started today.

A High-Intensity Compression Strategy Helps Boost Retirement Savings at 50

If you're anything like me, hearing that there is a way to give your retirement savings a healthy kick in the pants later in life seems like a lifesaver, especially if you aren't on target to reach your retirement goals.

According to IndexBox, those who need to increase their savings later in life will need to do so with gusto, resorting to a compression strategy that allows them to deposit larger chunks of money into their accounts over a shorter period. So, where is this extra money coming from? According to the publication, those in this age range can make the most of the limited time they have to save by using any extra earnings to boost their savings, putting any money that comes in directly into their retirement account. This includes money like:

  • Raises
  • Bonuses
  • Tax returns
  • Inheratance
  • Rebates

Basically, if it's not part of your regular paycheck, it goes directly into your retirement account, allowing you to quickly add money and compound your savings.

This Method Also Helps Stop Lifestyle Creep

The benefit of this method is two-fold. That's because many people find themselves with more disposable income as they age. Either because they have finally found more job security, or because their children have grown and left home, giving people of a certain age a little more financial freedom.

Typically, this extra money falls into a category experts call lifestyle creep, when you start spending more because you have more to spend. Eliminating those extra financial windfalls from your budget prevents you from spending on ongoing expenses, like new cars, annual vacations, a bigger home, and more.

Related: How Living In These States Could Shrink Your Social Security Check

Not only does this put your retirement account into a better position to support you financially as you age, since those small chunks of money you put aside compound the interest payments you're earning each year, but it also limits the amount of money that you get used to spending on lavish expenses that you don't really need, which can hopefully reduce the shock you feel when you're eventually living off of a fixed income in retirement.

Shoppers Are Racing to Grab Aldi’s $1 50th Anniversary Collectibles

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:30am

Whether you're new to shopping at Aldi or a longtime customer, the retailer's quarter system for unlocking a shopping cart is something you'll want to know before heading in for a big haul. Designed to help keep carts from being left scattered across parking lots and to reduce the need for staff to round them up, the system works by requiring shoppers to insert a quarter to release their cart from the chain that holds them together in the corral.

Once you're done shopping, the process is just as simple. Return your cart to the corral, reattach it, and your quarter is returned. This clever setup has long been part of the Aldi experience, and in celebration of Aldi's 50th anniversary, that very system is being immortalized with the Aldi Gear Keychain Quarter Holder

According to Aldi, the top seller of the bunch has been the retro-looking Flower design, with its purple base color topped with a pink flower and yellow center featuring the Aldi logo imprinted in white. Complemented by a green leather loop and black keychain hardware, this whimsical design strikes a charming balance of cute and functional, perfectly sized to still leave enough space for your faithful cart quarter to fit inside.

While the Heart, Anniversary, Burger and Aldi A styles each bring their own unique look to the collection, we'd be remiss if we didn't highlight the equally retro vibes of the Cassette-shaped keychain. Sporting an iconic cassette tape shape with a navy base, a black border and classic Aldi-colored accents, this fun design is perfect for music lovers and anyone old enough to remember collecting their favorite artists' cassette tapes.

If there's one thing we can appreciate about Aldi beyond its unbeatable prices on a wide range of home, kitchen, outdoor, pet and electronic essentials, it's the retailer's ability to create products that let you show off your Aldi pride. And what better way to show just how dedicated a shopper you are than by keeping your trusty quarter keychain attached to your hip?

The only problem is, stock is already selling out fast. If you're hoping to secure a specific style from this lineup, head to your local store this week before they're gone. While you're at it, don't miss Aldi's $8 Mother's Day mug set and $5 foldable tote bag for more must-have essentials.

The Top U.S. Travel Destination This Summer Is Not in Florida, California, or Even New York City

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:28am

When you think of summer travel in the U.S., your mind probably jumps to beaches in Florida, coastal escapes in California, or the nonstop buzz of New York City. But for summer 2026, there’s a surprising destination topping the charts: Kansas City.

According to new data highlighted by Google Flights and reported by Travel + Leisure, Kansas City ranks as the number one trending domestic destination this summer, and it’s not by accident.

How Kansas City Claimed the Top Spot

The rankings are based on year-over-year increases in flight searches for trips between June 1 and August 31, 2026. In other words, this isn’t about opinion; it reflects where travelers are actually planning to go.

And what’s driving that surge? A mix of affordability, major global events, and a growing reputation as a cultural hotspot.

Kansas City is one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to draw massive crowds and international attention. That alone has helped push travel interest higher, but it’s far from the only reason.

Travelers are increasingly looking for destinations that offer unique experiences without the sky-high costs of more traditional hotspots, and Kansas City delivers on both fronts.

@aovtravelagency

♬ Swinging - 查爱其 What Makes Kansas City So Attractive

First, let’s talk about value. Compared to major coastal cities, Kansas City is significantly more affordable for hotels, dining, and entertainment. That means travelers can do more without blowing their budget.

Then there’s the food scene. Kansas City is world-famous for its barbecue, and for many visitors, that alone is worth the trip. But the city’s culinary offerings go far beyond smoked meats, with a growing restaurant scene that blends local flavor with global influences.

Culturally, the city punches well above its weight. Neighborhoods like the Crossroads Arts District are packed with galleries, live music, and creative energy, while institutions like the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art offer world-class collections, often with free admission.

Kansas City is also known as the “City of Fountains,” and its mix of historic architecture, green spaces, and vibrant districts gives it a charm that feels both relaxed and dynamic.

And of course, sports play a major role. Between the World Cup matches and the city’s already passionate fan culture, the atmosphere this summer is expected to be electric.

What to Do When You Visit

There’s no shortage of things to do in Kansas City, whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family.

Start with a visit to Union Station, a beautifully restored train station that now houses exhibits, shops, and interactive attractions. Nearby, the National WWI Museum and Memorial offers one of the most unique historical experiences in the country, along with panoramic views of the city.

If you’re traveling with kids, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium and the Wonderscope Children's Museum are among the most popular attractions right now.

For shopping and dining, head to the Country Club Plaza, a picturesque area known for its Spanish-inspired design and lively atmosphere.

And if you want to experience the city’s creative side, don’t miss First Fridays in the Crossroads Arts District, where galleries, food trucks, and live performances take over the streets.

Why This Summer Is the Perfect Time to Go

Kansas City has been steadily building momentum as a travel destination, but summer 2026 feels like a turning point. With global events, new attractions, and a surge in traveler interest, the city is stepping into the spotlight in a big way.

It’s not trying to compete with the usual tourist giants; it’s offering something different: authenticity, affordability, and a sense of discovery.

So if you’re planning a summer trip and want to avoid the crowds (and costs) of the usual hotspots, Kansas City might just be the smartest, and most surprising, choice you can make.

Christina Applegate Breaks Silence After Reported Hospitalization

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:27am

Christina Applegate is reassuring fans after recent reports surrounding her health.

In an Instagram post shared Monday, April 20, the Dead to Me star offered an encouraging update alongside a photo of her memoir, You With The Sad Eyes, resting beneath a coffee cup on her balcony overlooking lush greenery.

But it was Applegate’s caption that quickly drew attention, as the actress directly addressed the concern that had taken over the internet the past few days.

“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health Issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better everyday,” she wrote. “I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”

The message appeared to calm many fans after reports surfaced last week that Applegate had been hospitalized in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, the actress was admitted in late March, though the exact reason for the hospitalization was not disclosed.

It also remains unclear whether the reported stay was directly connected to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which she first revealed publicly in 2021.

“Omg this makes my heart and soul so happy!! Thank You for the update! ❤️,” one fan wrote in the comments.

Another exclaimed, “Omg, thank you for the update...✨️🫂.”

“Healing vibes coming your way,” a third replied.

A representative for Applegate later told Parade, “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

The Emmy-winning actress has been candid in recent months about the realities of living with MS, discussing both the physical and emotional toll it can take. In her memoir, she shared that some mornings she struggles with basic movement, while also speaking openly about the disease in interviews.

Best-Selling Author’s Classic Book Ranked Among ‘Best Books’ of All Time

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:26am

Mystic River is undeniably one of the most intense, emotional and hard-hitting crime novels ever written— just ask Goodreads users.

The bestselling work by David Lehane has been ranked among the "best books of all time" on Goodreads, based on votes from readers. The recognition reflects the novel's enduring popularity and its reputation as a standout in the genre.

Published in 2001, Mystic River follows three childhood friends, Jimmy, Sean and Dave, whose lives are forever shaped by a traumatic event. Years later, they are brought back together when Jimmy's daughter is murdered, setting off a chain of suspicion, grief and buried secrets. As the investigation unfolds, the story explores how the past continues to shape the present in devastating ways.

"'Mystic' has so many great connotations," said Lehane in a 2001 interview. "And water is always symbolic, so I knew before I wrote the book that that's what it was going to be called. It's a book about the past, it's about the tug of the past."

Known for its psychological depth and layered storytelling, the novel goes beyond a traditional crime narrative. Lehane examines themes of trauma, justice and morality, creating a story that is as emotionally complex as it is suspenseful. His ability to build tension while developing deeply human characters has made the book a lasting favorite among readers.

Mystic River was later adapted into the acclaimed film of the same name, directed by Clint Eastwood, which further cemented the story's cultural impact and introduced it to an even wider audience.

"I can't stand when people say a book is cinematic," said Lehan in an interview. "Books came first, so cinema can be like literature, not the other way around. Writers have been putting images in people’s heads for centuries."

More than two decades after its release, the novel continues to resonate with readers who are drawn to its powerful exploration of loss, loyalty and the consequences of the past.

With its inclusion in Goodreads' ranking, Mystic River stands as a modern classic, one that continues to leave a lasting impression long after the final page.

Archaeologists Uncover 1,700 -Year-Old Artifact From the Bottom of the Sea

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:21am

The Mediterranean has always felt like a place where history refuses to stay buried. For centuries, sailors, empires, and entire cities have left their marks along its shores. But every so often, the sea gives something back.

Recently, archaeologists working off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt, recovered monumental stone pieces linked to one of the most legendary structures of the ancient world: the Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos. These blocks had been resting underwater for centuries, according to GB News, before being lifted from the seabed during a major archaeological expedition.

For travelers who love destinations where history feels alive, this discovery is more than an academic headline. It is a reminder that some of the world’s greatest landmarks are still revealing their secrets.

Stay in the loop with fresh travel stories and updates—subscribe to our newsletter.

The 1,700-Year-Old Remains of the Lighthouse of Alexandria

When divers began lifting massive stones from the harbor floor in Alexandria, they were not retrieving small fragments. According to T13, some of the blocks weigh between 70 and 80 tons, making them among the largest pieces ever recovered from the site.

These architectural elements include lintels, doorway supports, paving slabs, and even fragments of what may have been a monumental gateway. Archaeologists believe they once formed part of the legendary lighthouse that guided ships safely into Alexandria’s harbor more than two thousand years ago.

Built in the early 3rd century BCE under the rule of Ptolemy I and later Ptolemy II, the lighthouse was an engineering marvel. Rising to roughly 100 meters tall, it was one of the tallest human-made structures on Earth for centuries and one of the famed Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The structure survived for over 1,600 years before repeated earthquakes eventually brought it down in the medieval period. Many stones were later reused in the nearby Citadel of Qaitbay, while others slipped into the sea where they remained forgotten for generations.

Related: 120,000-Year-Old Discovery Made in Cave Hidden Under Historic Welsh Castle May Rewrite History as We Know It

How Underwater Archaeology Is Rebuilding a Wonder of the World

Recovering these stones is only the first step. Per Le Ravi, archaeologists are now scanning and studying the pieces in detail as part of a broader research effort known as the PHAROS project, an international initiative aiming to digitally reconstruct the lighthouse.

Using 3D scanning and advanced modeling technology, researchers hope to create a “digital twin” of the monument. This virtual reconstruction will allow historians and engineers to better understand how the lighthouse was designed and how it functioned as a navigational beacon for ancient ships.

One of the most fascinating elements uncovered so far is a previously unknown pylon-style doorway that blends Greek and Egyptian architectural traditions, as GB News reported. This suggests the lighthouse may have been more culturally layered and complex than historians previously believed.

For travelers who enjoy museums and ancient sites, this research could eventually enable them to explore the lighthouse virtually, even though the original structure no longer stands.

Visiting Alexandria: Where Ancient Engineering Meets the Mediterranean

If this discovery sparks your curiosity, Alexandria offers a surprisingly layered travel experience. It is a Mediterranean port city where cafés overlook ruins and where ancient stories sit quietly beside modern life.

The Citadel of Qaitbay, a fortress built in the 15th century, stands on the very site where the lighthouse once towered over the harbor. Many historians believe stones from the fallen lighthouse were used in its construction. Standing on the fortress walls today, you are essentially standing on the footprint of one of the greatest structures ever built.

The waterfront itself also holds the key to the lighthouse’s mysteries. Just offshore lies the submerged archaeological zone where divers continue to study the ruins. While most travelers will not dive there themselves, knowing that the remains of a Wonder of the World rest beneath those waters gives the coastline an almost cinematic sense of history.

The Sea Still Has Stories to Tell

Travel often reminds us that the world is much older and more mysterious than we imagine. The recovery of these massive stone blocks from the seabed shows how even well-known historical landmarks can still surprise us.

For nearly 1,700 years, pieces of the Lighthouse of Alexandria lay quietly beneath the Mediterranean. Now, slowly, they are returning to the surface and reshaping our understanding of one of the ancient world’s greatest achievements.

Pop-Tarts Brings Back Iconic Pokémon Collab For the First Time in 25 Years: 'Haven't Seen in Ages'

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:19am

Whether you're five-years-old or 50, there's something so reliably delicious about a classic Pop-Tarts pastry.

Providing fans the ideal breakfast to enjoy on the go, the iconic breakfast brand has no shortage of excellent pastry flavors lining grocery store shelves, whether looking to a classic flavor like Frosted Strawberry and Blueberry or a more inventive twist like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

As fantastic as many of Pop-Tarts' eclectic flavors are in their own right, the company has just unveiled an exciting collaboration that marks the return of a longtime fan-favorite to store aisles across the country.

According to a new Instagram post from the ever diligent food blogger markie_devo, Pop-Tart is once again bringing back their beloved Pokémon collab last seen over two decades ago.

As the food blogger shared on social media, "Target is celebrating 30 years of Pokémon with returning Pop-Tarts and new Pirate’s Booty shapes."

As exciting as the return of the fabled Pop-Tarts x Pokémon collab is, it's crucial to note the key differences between the 30th anniversary Pokémon Pop-Tarts and the original 2000 flavor.

Whereas the original featured a fruity and vibrant Wild Cherry flavor, this new version of the collaboration features Frosted Vanilla Cupcake pastries made with cupcake-flavored filling, white icing and eye-catching sprinkles.

Not only that, but the new pastry also features a limited-edition box with a colorful Pikachu design. Each box of the pastries retails for $3.99, with a total of 12 toaster pastries included in each package. The new flavor specifically debuts at Target on May 2 and online via the grocery store's website on May 3 at 9 am EST.

If shoppers' responses are any indication, the new treats are guaranteed to fly off shelves at a rapid pace!

"Ah can't wait!" one user wrote on Instagram. "I should try these!" agreed another.

1969 Rock Song That Still Blows Minds Ranked Best Drum Solo of All Time

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:17am

Moms, let your kiddos bang on every dang thang. They could end up onstage, blowing minds like Led Zeppelin’s John “Bonzo” Bonham.

A masterful drummer rooted in big band and jazz, Bonzo is widely considered unmatched in stamina, power, and dynamics. But there’s one song in particular that really lets his virtuosity shine, and it’s just been ranked the best drum solo of all time by multipleoutlets

Moby Dick,” the seventh track on the band’s 1969 Led Zeppelin II album, is a renowned instrumental, drum-heavy classic. It’s a moment when bandmates Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones shift the spotlight over to Bonzo, who then relentlessly bangs out an insane marathon on the snare, toms, and congos for nearly 20 minutes without missing a beat.

“The man who changed rock drumming forever -- no one matches the swagger, speed, or power of John Bonham on 'Moby Dick,'” RadioX writes.

For Led Zeppelin fans in the 1970s, “Moby Dick" was their white whale — the moment everyone came to witness live. Born at the height of the drum solo’s golden age, Bonzo’s explosive showcase of power, precision, and endurance became the centerpiece of the band’s concerts. Perhaps immortalized at their 1970 performance at Royal Albert Hall

Though the track wasn’t released as a single, "Moby Dick" helped propel the band's second studio album to the top spot, handing them their very first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.

“John Bonham was one of the most legendary drummers of the 20th century,” American Songwriter says, adding that the "Moby Dick" drum solo “is really unlike anything” they’ve heard “before or after. Bonham’s energy was boundless, his skill was impressive, and he mastered rhythm in a way that just seemed to come naturally to him.”

According to LouderSound, Bonzo’s early influences include Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Sandy Nelson, and Latin band leader Edmundo Ros. He used sticks and his hands, but the outlet credits his kick as his greatest strength, with Jimi Hendrix saying Bonzo had “a foot like a rabbit.”

“John’s style was cutting edge,” Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden says, per Louder. “John was really the pioneer of the fast right foot. … He was the drummer’s drummer in just the way he looked when he played his kit. The flamboyancy, beautiful dynamics, and the stunning sound. I always think that Keith Moon was like the Gene Krupa of rock and John Bonham was like the Buddy Rich of rock.”

A Look Back at Queen Elizabeth II's Most Glamorous Moments

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:05am

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning monarch in British history, having ruled for 70 years and 214 days until her death in 2022 at the age of 96. When she became queen, she was just 25 years old. Although she became one of the most powerful world figures, she was also a fashionable young woman coming into her own. During her first few decades as queen, she donned some of the most fabulous outfits that will live on forever.

Elizabeth wore many beautiful dresses early in her life, but she garnered worldwide attention for her jaw-dropping wedding dress by Norman Hartnell, a favorite designer of her mother. The ivory silk gown, which had a sweetheart neckline and fitted long sleeves, featured intricate pearl and diamond-encrusted flowers, roses, jasmine blossoms, and ears of wheat embroidered on the bodice. The showstopping silk tulle train was a whopping 15 feet long.

She was 21 years old when she married Prince Philip in November 1947, and four years later, she would ascend to the throne after the death of her father, George VI. Elizabeth tapped Hartnell again to create her coronation dress for the event in June 1953.

The designer wrote about the experience of creating a piece of history in his 1955 autobiography, Silver and Gold.

“In simple conversational tones the Queen went on to express her wishes. Her Majesty required that the dress should conform in line to that of her wedding dress and that the material should be white satin,” he wrote. “It was almost exactly five years earlier that I had put the final touches to the dress which, as Princess Elizabeth, she had worn on the day of her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh."

Hartnell went on to conduct months of research, including visits to the London Museum and the London Library, to create the perfect look. The gown was constructed with U.K.-made white duchesse satin and featured embellishments in gold, silver, and pastel colours that included the emblems of Great Britain and Ireland. The finished product reportedly weighed 15 pounds and took 12 seamstresses from the Royal School of Needlework 3,500 hours to complete.

Elizabeth loved her Coronation gown so much that she wore it six more times after the ceremony, including at the Opening of Parliament in New Zealand and Australia in 1954.

This 'Beyond the Gates' Star Finally Reveals Who Has Their Characters Heart

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 11:00am

Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) has spent the last year caught between a past he can’t escape and a future he’s desperate to build. After a secret affair and a surprise daughter shattered his marriage, Robinson is finally setting the record straight on where he believes his character’s heart truly lies, and if a reconciliation with his ex-wife, Nicole, is actually off the table.

Robinson, who plays Ted, recently spoke with WJBF’s reporter Karlton T. Clay about his career, from Power Rangers Light Speed Rescue to his music and his current role on Beyond the Gates.

Since the show’s premiere in February 2025, Ted’s romantic life has been anything but straightforward. Initially introduced with Maurice Johnson in the role, the character was married to Dr. Nicole Richardson Dupre (Daphnée Duplaix). However, it was later revealed that years prior Ted had an affair with Leslie ‘Dana’ Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant), resulting in the birth of his daughter, Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle), a secret he was unaware of at the time.

When Dana returned to Fairmont Crest, the truth ultimately came out, shattering Ted’s "picture perfect" marriage. Since then, he has attempted to move forward, including beginning a relationship with nurse Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson Morrison).

Asked where Ted’s heart currently lies, Robinson said, “I think he's currently in love with Shanice.”

Still the actor acknowledged that Nicole will always be part of Ted’s story. “That’s who he first fell in love with," he said. "That's who he has his children with."

Robinson added that Ted has come to accept how much his relationship with Nicole has changed, he believes she will always have a "piece of his heart." But now, the new relationship has given him a different perspective, “I think he’s finally been able to bounce back,” he added.

Waiting Until 70 to Retire Can Practically Double the Average Social Security Benefit, but There's One Catch

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 10:58am

Social Security recipients likely know it takes a lot of work to ensure they'll earn enough money to cover their expenses in retirement. Often, that involves ensuring you have multiple income streams after you punch the clock for the last time, including everything from part-time work to other investments.

However, one of the key ways people make the most of their Social Security benefits is to maximize their monthly benefit from the Social Security Administration (SSA). And while for many, that means delaying retirement until the age of 70, there's another thing you can do during this time period that will help you earn the absolute max payment offered by the SSA, which was $5,181 in 2026. Curious what you have to do? Keep reading to find out.

Retirees Can Earn the Maximum Benefit from the SSA by Retiring at 70

By now, you may have heard that you can beef up your monthly Social Security payment by delaying retirement. Each year you delay collecting Social Security after you retire, your payment will increase by a certain amount, according to the SSA.

The exact amount that it increases by is determined by your birth year, according to the SSA website, and it breaks down like this:

  • A 5.5 percent increase per year for those born between 1933 and 1934
  • A 6 percent increase per year for those born between 1935 and 1936
  • A 6.5 percent increase per year for those born between 1937 and 1938
  • A 7 percent increase per year for those born between 1939 and 1940
  • A 7.5 percent increase per year for those born between 1941 and 1942
  • An 8 percent increase per year for those born in 1943 or after

The benefit increase only applies between the years you reach full retirement age and the age of 70. Once your birthday cake has 70 candles on it, you can no longer add to your Social Security income by delaying retirement.

You Can Get the Most Out of Your Social Security Check by Earning More

When it comes to earning the most money you can in retirement, the trick is actually a bit more complicated than simply delaying the date you start collecting, according to Yahoo! Finance. That's because the amount of money you receive is directly connected to the amount of money you earned throughout your career.

To secure that $5,181 payout, you would need to max out the income requirements for your earnings, and earn an amount that is either equal to or above the wage base limit for 35 years of your life. In 2026, the year when people are maxing out at $5,181, you would need to make at least $184,500 for 35 years of your career.

Obviously, that excludes the majority of Americans, since SoFi says that the Average salary in the U.S. is just $66,622 as of 2026. That is obviously much less than what is required to hit that upper-tier payout, making it a hard target for many to hit. That being said, if you can manage to be among the top earners, you'll still be able to reap those benefits well into retirement.

In a video posted via X, Coffindafffer explained that she recently did a poll on X about the ongoing speculation that the Guthrie family was involved in Nancy's disappearance. About half said none of them were involved, with 20-something percent saying Savannah's brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was involved, 20-something percent saying Savannah's sisterAnnie Guthrie and Tommaso were both involved, and the rest said Savannah.

"I was really surprised when I saw the poll come out with really anybody believing that she could be involved," Coffindaffer admitted. "That she could be behind this. That she could have paid for somebody to do this. It's nothing short of shocking to me."

The former FBI agent detailed Savannah's impressive education and journalism background, describing her as a "girl who is beyond success."

"Savannah Guthrie is brilliant academically," Coffindaffer explained. "She's brilliant in terms of the way she can communicate. She's brilliant as a deep thinker, in my opinion. She's no dummy. "

Not only does Savannah not have a monetary motive due to her impressive net worth, as Coffindaffer pointed out, but the Today co-anchor also offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy's recovery.

"The grief and pain that we have watched Savannah show us. with no makeup on, roots grown out, could care less how she looks on television," Coffindaffer reiterated, of Savannah's public pleas to Nancy's kidnappers. "Begging for answers, begging for her mother."

Additionally, she declared, "Tommaso, Annie, Camron [Guthrie], and Savannah, and her husband, they are all absolutely victims... And so, I'm going to continue to advocate for them, and I'm going to continue to advocate for justice, especially when I see people continuing to go after them and calling them murderers."

1986 Hit Film Ranked Among 'Best Horror Movies of All Time' Is a Remake

Mon, 04/20/2026 - 10:48am

Among the decades of released horror films, there are always a select few that fans know by name instantly. Director David Cronenberg, known as an originator of body horror, released a 1986 sci-fi film that would become a horror movie classic, and was originally a remake of its 1958 predecessor.

In the late '80s, Jeff Goldblum had already dabbled in the sci-fi horror genre with the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers. By 1986, he starred in The Fly alongside Geena Davisand John Getz. The film has been ranked by Rotten Tomatoesas one of the "Best Horror Movies of All Time" with a 94% rating and at No. 59 on the list. The storyline for the film is well known among fans, having originally been a George Langelaan's 1957 short story of the same name and a 1958 film of the same name.

The Fly follows the brilliant but eccentric scientist Seth Brundle, played by Goldblum, as he invents a set of telepods capable of instantaneous teleportation between them. Brundle soon meets a science journalist named Veronica "Ronnie" Quaife (Davis) and shows her the device. The invention isn't 100% ready as it's unable to fully transport living beings. The Fly takes a turn when Brundle makes some modifications and uses the machine, unaware that a fly was in the other pod.

His DNA becomes fused with the insect, and at first, he experiences enhanced strength and energy, but he soon undergoes a horrifying transformation. His body and mind deteriorate—turning him into a grotesque human-fly hybrid.

The Fly was originally filmed in 1958 with director Kurt Neumann and David Hedison in the leading roles. It did well at the box office, having makde $3 million against its $325,000 budget. Many fans can agree that the 1986 remake is what gained more cult classic acclaim, earning $60 million against its $9 million budget. It also led to an Oscar for Best Makeup, and the tagline, "Be afraid. Be very afraid," became a pop culture hit.

"David Cronenberg combines his trademark affinity for gore and horror with strongly developed characters, making The Fly a surprisingly affecting tragedy," said Rotten Tomatoes about the film. With other critics describing the remake as one that surpasses the original and exceeds the potential of the original short story.

The film's storyline went through a few creative changes before it was greenlit by 20th Century Fox. The role of Brundle was also originally proposed for Pierce Brosnan before it was shot down, and later offered toJohn Malkovich, John Lithgow, Michael Keaton, and even Richard Dreyfuss. Goldblum was offered the role at the suggestion of Cronenberg, and for being the only actor willing to wear prosthetics.
