Beloved ’80s Rocker Announces New Book 49 Years After Beginning Career
Ex-Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland is looking back on his unfinished business with his upcoming project.
The legendary band’s former guitarist is gearing up to step into the spotlight once again, but this time not on stage but through books.
During an interview with U.K. broadcaster Paul Stephenson for VRP Rocks, the 68-year-old musician opened up about what he’s been working on lately and what pushed him to speak about issues surrounding former bandmate Dave Mustaine.
Formed in the early 1980s in California, founding member vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine launched what would become one of the most iconic forces in the music industry along with bassist David Ellefson.
Prior to their commercial success in the 1990s, the rock band welcomed Poland into the lineup as their guitarist. However, due to internal conflict, the band reportedly decided to let him go.
His initial departure was in 1985 during the tour for their debut album Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!
It was followed by the more well-known exit that took place in 1987 after the conclusion of their world tour Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?
The departure was reportedly linked to the frontman writing the track “Liar,” a diss track aimed at the former band member.
Megadeth members Gar Samuelson, David Ellefson, Dave Mustaine, Chris Poland, pose backstage at the Joe Louis Arena during the band's "Waking Up Dead Tour" on February 13, 1987, in Detroit, Michigan. When asked about his reaction to this, Poland pointed out that it may have impacted his reputation but not the audience or career path he was actually pursuing.
"Well, I'm sure it did affect my career, but my career was playing instrumental, whacked-out fusion [music],” he told the outlet as cited by Metal Injection, adding, “I had a handful of people that listened to my music. Those people didn't even listen to Megadeth, so it didn't matter.”
He also added that he did not carry any resentment and had moved on from the incident.
"And then when [Mustaine] asked me to come back [to Megadeth] – I don't hold any grudges,” the guitarist shared. “Sometimes I get a little upset, if I think about it, but I never read [Dave's] books. People would tell me stuff he said [about me], and I'd be, like, 'What are you gonna do?'"
Poland added that one of the key projects he is working on right now is an upcoming book, which may delve into his time with Megadeth as well as issues involving the frontman.
"I'm writing a book [called Now Leaving Metalopolis] right now with [music journalist, podcaster and author] Matt Herring,” the musician revealed. “And some of that stuff – I have my little rebuttal about stuff that was said [by Dave] about me. 'Cause, first of all, I don't hit girls. There are a lot of things he said [over the years about me] that's total B.S.”
Interestingly, he also mentioned the late drummer Nick Menza, thanking him for helping reshape his mindset and guiding him toward peace and forgiveness rather than holding onto the past.
The upcoming memoir is in its final stages, with an official release date yet to be announced.

Comedy Legend Mike Myers Is Now a Full Silver Fox, and We’re Here for It
Mike Myers is a comedy legend, but the star of films like Wayne's World and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery has put a little twist on his typical look with a head full of white hair.
Myers, 62, got his start on Saturday Night Livebefore launching a hugely successful film career. While he largely runs below the radar these days, the actor did make a rare exception to work the red carpet at the 2026 AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, honoring Eddie Murphy, the recipient of the 2026 AFI Life Achievement Award. The star, who is currently at work on Shrek 5, showed off a dapper look with a short cut of white hair. This silver fox might be looking better than ever!

What Did Mike Myers Say Onstage?Naturally, Myers didn't let the opportunity pass by without breaking a few jokes. Later on during the big event, the icon hit the stage to honor Murphy, and did so in full Shrek greenery.
"None of the 'Shrek' success could have happened without Eddie Murphy; his character Donkey is a masterpiece," said Myers, USA Today reported. "As is every character that Eddie has created. ... It is an absolute honor to be able to tell my kids that I got to work with Eddie Murphy."

How can I watch Eddie Murphy's AFI Achievement ceremony? The AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony honoring Eddie Murphy will stream on May 31 on Netflix.
When Will Mike Myers Receive Some Praise?Don't Worry! Myers is set to receive a special award at the upcoming Canadian Screen Awards in May, The Hollywood Reporter shared back in March.
While Myers is a U.S. citizen, the Canadian-born actor is wildly proud of his native country. You may recall that in April 2025, he appeared alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in a TV ad wearing a jersey that read “Never 51,” in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 51st state taunts against Canada, THR reminded us. Myers later returned to his other home turf, Saturday Night Live, and made a statement by wearing a “Canada is not for sale” T-shirt.

Gillian Anderson Loved the New X-Files Script — but David Duchovny Doesn't Even Know If Mulder Exists
David Duchovny has played FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder for most of his professional life, 11 seasons across two runs of The X-Files, two movies, and countless moments that defined a generation of television. So it might surprise fans to learn that, right now, he genuinely doesn't know if that character will exist at all in Ryan Coogler's upcoming Hulu reboot.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duchovny confirmed he has spoken with Coogler and has a general sense of the project, but hasn't read the pilot script. More to the point, he doesn't know whether his character even survives the transition. 'I don't know what the world of his show is,' Duchovny said. 'I don't know if my character exists in that show. It's all hypothetical to me, so I can't really address it.'
That's a striking admission. Gillian Anderson, who played Mulder's partner Dana Scully for those same 11 years, is further along as she's read the pilot, called it 'really good,' and told fans at a recent convention appearance to keep an open mind. Anderson has teased that conversations with Coogler could lead to her returning in some capacity. Duchovny, by contrast, is in a more uncertain position.
Related: Does a Real-Life 'X-Files' Exist? 'The Public Has Been Lied To'
'There have been talks about certain things, but there's nothing concrete at this point,' he told the Hollywood Reporter. And while he's cautiously optimistic about what Coogler is building ('It's a great frame that Chris Carter came up with all those years ago,' he told Gold Derby), his primary concern is the writers' room. 'We were blessed to have a writers' room that could generate 20 to 25 movie ideas,' he said, citing Vince Gilligan, the Morgan brothers, and Howard Gordon as the creative engine behind the show's best years. 'I hope Ryan doesn't have to do 25 episodes and only has to do 10 or 12. And I hope he's got great writers because that's really the key.'
Coogler's reboot has a pilot order at Hulu and two confirmed leads: Danielle Deadwyler (Till) and Himesh Patel (Yesterday) as brand-new FBI agents assigned to unexplained phenomena cases. Original series creator Chris Carter is involved as an executive producer. Whether the new show exists in the same universe as the original, or starts entirely fresh, hasn't been confirmed.
The X-Files premiered in 1993 and became one of the defining series of the decade, running for nine seasons on Fox before two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018. For millions of fans, Mulder and Scully were the X-Files. The idea that Mulder might simply not exist in what comes next is, as Duchovny himself might put it, a lot to process.
Hilton Is Finally Returning to Nassau With a New Luxury Beachfront Resort
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Nassau hotel scene, you know it’s a landscape that is constantly evolving—but Hilton’s latest move is more than just a new pin on the map.
The hospitality giant just announced the signing of Paradise Breeze Nassau, a new-build property set to join the Curio Collection by Hilton in 2028. This isn't just the brand’s debut in the Bahamas; it marks Hilton’s high-profile return to the island, signaling a major shift toward more design-led, boutique-style stays in the region.
Located on West Bay Street—just three miles from the airport—Paradise Breeze is ditching the "mega-resort" playbook in favor of an 11-story, 125-room experience that feels deeply connected to the local Nassau vibe. "We envisioned Paradise Breeze as more than a destination," says Daniel Mosca, founder and CEO of B.P.G. LTD. "It’s a way of experiencing Nassau that feels both elevated and deeply connected to its surroundings."

Hilton
For those of us who prioritize a good wellness setup, the amenities here are the real headline. The property will feature a massive 15,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, including dedicated padel and squash courts (a growing trend for high-end Caribbean stays). But the showstopper is likely to be the 5,000-square-foot infinity pool that looks like it’s spilling directly into the turquoise sea.

The culinary side is equally ambitious, moving beyond the standard buffet with three distinct concepts: a rooftop specialty restaurant with 360-degree ocean views, a beachside all-day dining spot and a lively pool bar.

They are even adding an artisanal bakery and a curated market, perfect for the growing number of travelers who prefer a "grab and go" morning before heading out to explore the island’s shops and local culture. Since the property also includes residences, it’s clearly designed for that "live-like-a-local" luxury that today’s savvy travelers are craving.

The global brand began rolling out the line earlier in select markets, making its first appearance in Europe this past February. The new bars that are releasing stateside are as "chunky and unequally divided as ever," just with "even more flavor-filled layers," per an official description. Reviewers would likely agree as influencer MorganChomps shared on Instagram, calling them "delicious" and "filled-to-the-brim chocolate bars."
The "FILLED chocolate bars that are truly FULL of it!" the foodie noted before the brand chimed in, suggesting, "The caramel pull is unreal."
A second responded that they "ate the whole caramel bar 🫢🫢🫢🤭 in one day!!!!"
"OMG it’s finally happening," another joked. "Everyone stay calm."
"Tony’s is so good," someone else shared. "But IMO, they should’ve really come out with at least one dark chocolate bar because that’s where it’s at!"
"Waiting for peanut butter!" one more cheered.

The company said it will also be available at Walmart and Whole Foods in the coming weeks (prices may vary). New Bakery Loaf From Costco Is an Easy Win for Any Meal
If you've been looking for something new to add to your weekly menu, Costco's latest bakery drop is worth a closer look.
The warehouse's newest sourdough loaf works well for both sweet and savory dishes, making it easy to use across multiple meals, from breakfast to dinner. It's a bright, spring-ready flavor and one that likely won't be around for long.
Check it out in this April 17 Instagram from Juli Sandjaja @costcoaisles:
View this post on InstagramCostco's new Blueberry Sourdough Bread is a 2-pound, hearth-baked bread priced at $8.99, featuring real dried blueberries throughout for bursts of sweetness in every slice.

This loaf is a little different from traditional sourdough. It's a hybrid that combines sour culture with yeast. While this generally gives it a softer texture and a milder tang than a classic sourdough, it's still described as having a robust sour flavor.
That balance works in its favor. The light tang paired with the blueberries makes it easy to use in a variety of ways.
Ways to Use Costco's New Blueberry Sourdough LoafFor breakfast, it's an easy win. Slice it thick to soak up a custard base for French toast, with a bit of sweetness already built in. A little butter, fresh berries, and maple syrup are all it needs. Or turn it into a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.
It also opens the door to more adventurous dinner combinations. The sweet-tangy contrast makes it a great base for grilled cheese, especially with something sharp like cheddar. You could even take it a step further and turn it into a Monte Cristo-style sandwich with ham, cheese, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
Of course, it doesn't need much to stand on its own. Toasted with butter, it's the kind of loaf that's sure to disappear quickly once it's on the counter.
If you don't see it at your store just yet, new bakery items often roll out regionally, so it may take a little time to show up in all locations.
Between the flavor, versatility, and the real blueberries, this is a bakery find that feels just a little different from the usual rotation and is easy to grab on your next Costco run.
Patrick Swayze’s Widow Gives Her Brutally Honest Opinion on the Upcoming ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel
Lisa Niemi Swayze, who was married to Patrick Swayze for 34 years, has gotten the chance to read the new Dirty Dancing script. Although some fans were skeptical about making a sequel to the beloved film without one of its original stars, Lisa revealed that she appreciated the way the film incorporated her husband into the story.
“I actually got to read the script,” she exclusively told Us Weekly. “I was very moved by it.” She went on to say, “I’ll be very curious to see how it comes about. I wish [them] the best of luck. They’ve been working on it [for] quite a while. And I can’t wait to see it.”
In the original 1987 film, Patrick played Johnny Castle, a camp dance instructor who falls in love with Frances "Baby" Houseman, played by Jennifer Grey. Earlier this year, Grey revealed that she was going to be reprising her role in an upcoming sequel.
“The role of Baby has held a very deep and meaningful place in my heart, as it has in the hearts of so many fans over the years,” she told Deadline in January. “I’ve long wondered where we might find Baby years later and what her life might be like, but it’s taken time to assemble the kind of people that I felt could be entrusted to build on the legacy of the original film … and I’m excited to say that It looks like the wait will soon be over.”

When some fans voiced their disappointment in the sequel, since Patrick would not be involved, Grey reassured them by saying, “All I can say is there is no replacing anyone who’s passed. You never try to repeat anything that’s magic like that. You just go for something different.”
Patrick died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, but he is still making an impact to this day. Lisa revealed, “People will say, ‘Patrick was my favorite actor. I was so in love with Patrick when I was X years old.’ And I just love it that people still love them so much. My response always is, ‘You have really good taste.’”

Nancy Guthrie Update: Former FBI Agent Raises Concerns Over DNA Handling, Says Guthrie Family Should Be 'Upset'
Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1, and investigators continue working to solve the case. Weeks into the search, no arrests have been made and she has not been located.
On April 16, ABC News reported that DNA recovered from Guthrie's Arizona home had been handed over to the FBI after it was tested for several weeks at a lab in Florida. Reports indicated that the FBI would use "advanced technology" to test said DNA. Now, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer is weighing in.
"The fact that they’re saying the FBI has this advanced technology, they would’ve always had it," she said in a live video posted to X on Saturday, April 18. "That should really irk everyone that the sample didn’t go [to the FBI] because they would have always had the advanced technology and expertise."
Nancy Guthrie-Some important new developments need explained. https://t.co/gavqGD9R98
— Jennifer Coffindaffer (@CoffindafferFBI) April 18, 2026Coffindaffer went on to say that the reason the DNA found at Guthrie's home was sent to a lab in Florida "was based on them having the profiles established." And while she understands that logic to an extent, she says that "knowing that [the FBI] had that technology, that should really have the Guthrie family and anybody who cares about justice for Nancy Guthrie upset."
Coffindaffer said it could take months for the latest rounds of DNA testing to be completed.
Shortly after ABC News reported that the DNA—identified specifically as hair by Fox News Digital's Michael Ruiz—the Pima County Sheriff's Department released a statement, its first in nearly a month, clarifying that the department has worked in tandem with the FBI and that "DNA analysis remains ongoing."

Bill Gates and His Girlfriend Make Rare Red Carpet Appearance Together
Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, isn't one for working the red carpet. However, it seems the tech genius and philanthropist is willing to make an exception with his girlfriend, Paula Hurd, by his side.
Gates, 70, hit the red carpet with Hurd this week while attending the 12th Breakthrough Prize Ceremony at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The dapper couple mugged for the camera in a rare red carpet appearance, for which Gates wore a black brocade suit with a black bow tie. Hurd looked equally as elegant, wearing a black wrap dress.

Who is Bill Gates' Girlfriend, Paula Hurd? The widow of former Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, who died in 2019, Hurd worked for two decades in a variety of sales and services leadership positions at NCR Corporation, according to her biography on the Baylor University website.
Currently, Hurd "is a longtime community volunteer and philanthropist from Silicon Valley who has a passion for supporting educational and healthcare initiatives in her community as well as at Baylor University, the beloved alma mater of her late husband, Mark (BBA ’79).”
When Did Bill Gates and Paula Hurd Start Dating? After Gates got divorced from Melinda Gates in August 2021, he and Hurd were spotted together in 2022 and 2023, PEOPLE reported. However, they made their red carpet debut at the Breakthrough Prize in 2024, which is the same major event they hit the red carpet for this past weekend.
Here's a look at the couple on the same red carpet back in 2024:

What Has Bill Gates Said About Dating Paula Hurd? While Gates isn't one to speak profusely in the press about his relationships, the tycoon has shared a little bit about how much fun he's having with Hurd, who has two daughters of her own.
"I’m lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula," Gates said during an appearance on Today in February 2025. "We’re having fun. Going to the Olympics and lots of great things."
Eagle eyes will notice that he even thanked his lady love in the acknowledgments of his 2025 memoir, Source Code.
“Early readers of the manuscript included Paula Hurd, Marc St. John, and Sheila Gulati. The close read from dear and trusted friends provided much-needed, thoughtful, and insightful feedback at critical stages in the writing,” he mentioned in the back of the book.
1934 Classic Shirley Temple Film Gave Her the Breakthrough Role That Launched Her Career
Shirley Temple was a legendary child star who acted, sang, and danced in major motion pictures. Throughout the course of her career, she received many different awards and honors, including the Kennedy Center Honors and a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. She also received the first-ever Academy Juvenile Award at the 7thAcademy Awards when she was 6 years old.
Temple began her career when she was only 3. In 1934, she appeared in Stand Up and Cheer!, which was considered her breakthrough film. In it, she sang and tap danced alongside James Dunn.
Fans were thrilled with her performance. As one reviewer said, "Not only was Shirley a brilliant dancer she must have been very intelligent to remember all the song lyrics. Amazing.”
Stand Up and Cheer! was released on April 19, 1934. Written by Lew Brown and Ralph Spence, the film was about boosting morale during the Great Depression, so it was filled with many different vaudeville acts and musical numbers. However, many claim that it does not hold up today.
As one reviewer said, “This film was apparently made when films were fun-to-watch ‘moving pictures’ with some music and basically no plot (or a silly plot), which means this has its charming moments, but it's nothing spectacular - there were better musicals. I wanted to watch it just to see Shirley Temple's first real performance - and she was adorable, of course.” Another simply said, “There's not much here to stand up and cheer for.”

Stand Up and Cheer! helped make Temple a household name. By the end of that year, she appeared in 10 different movies, playing the starring roles in 4 different feature-length films. Some of her most popular roles throughout her career were in Bright Eyes, Heidi, The Little Princess, and Stowaway. She also appeared on radio and television shows.
Her last film, A Kiss for Corliss, was released in 1949. Temple then shifted into a career in politics in the 1960s. In 2014, Temple died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease when she was 85.
Which Ancient Civilization Mirrors Your Soul, Based on Birth Date
If the sacred healing arts like astrology, numerology, tarot, and ritualistic magic are so ancient, why are they resurging now more than ever? The answer lies in the cyclical nature of the cosmos. Our birth date can reveal which ancient civilization best mirrors us.

The Ancient Civilization That Aligns With Each Birth DateEvery ancient civilization drew guidance from the language of the stars through their mythology, astrology, astronomy, and rituals. Royal Caribbean Hits a Record 22 Destinations Across Asia’s Most Buzzworthy Cities
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to finally cross a multi-city Asia tour off your bucket list, Royal Caribbean just handed it to you on a silver platter. The line just pulled back the curtain on its 2027-2028 season for Spectrum of the Seas, and it’s a massive play for anyone who wants to see the Far East without the stress of constant flights and hotel transfers.
Spanning a record-breaking 22 destinations, this lineup is a "greatest hits" tour of Asia’s most buzzworthy coastal cities. We’re talking about everything from the neon-soaked streets of Tokyo and Osaka to the volcanic landscapes of Jeju, South Korea, and the historic charm of Da Nang, Vietnam.
What makes this season particularly interesting is the shift toward "one-way" journeys between major hubs like Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong. It’s a total game-changer for flexibility, allowing you to start your vacation in one iconic capital and end it in another.

"This new lineup reflects our ambition to deliver more diverse and immersive vacations," says Benjamin Bouldin, President of Royal Caribbean, Greater China. The focus here is clearly on depth—these aren't just "touch and go" port stops. Royal Caribbean is leaning into overnight stays in cities like Beijing and Tokyo, giving you two full days to actually get lost in the local culture, food markets and history rather than rushing back for a 5 p.m. all-aboard call.
Whether you're looking for a quick 3-night weekend escape to Busan's famous seafood markets or an 11-night festive deep-dive during Thanksgiving or Christmas, the seasonal timing is a major focus.
You can book a "Spring Blossom" journey in May to catch the hydrangeas in Jeju and peonies in Beijing, or head out in October for the "Autumn Foliage" escapes. Onboard, the Spectrum keeps that regional flair alive with spots like Sichuan Red and Teppanyaki, making sure that even when you're in the middle of the ocean, you’re still very much in the heart of Asia.
‘The Way Home’ Final Season Will 'Go Out With a Bang,' Stars Tease Major Answers (Exclusive)
Looking back on The Way Home,Evan Williams and Sadie Laflamme-Snow promise that Season 4 delivers the long-awaited payoff, what they referred to as “the icing on the cake” of a richly layered journey.
As the Hallmark series heads into its final season, Williams, who plays Kat’s childhood friend and romantic interest Elliot Augustine, and Laflamme-Snow, who plays Kat’s teenage daughter, Alice Landry, tease what’s ahead in the 10 episodes, which premiere on Sunday, April 19.
“The relationships have deepened, the learning is more impactful, and the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been,” said Williams, who exclusively told Parade. “We hope people hang on for the ride, because we’ve really put everything into this season, and this complex and juicy journey will go out with a bang.”

For Laflamme-Snow, the passionate fan response to the time-travel themed show helped shape the final chapter. “We give that care that right back in the way that every detail in this season is thought through and highly intentional,” she said.
That includes meaningful looks to the previous seasons. “There are so many nods to earlier moments,” she explained. “Things audiences may have thought were accidental weren’t. We’re really honoring what makes this show special and taking it to the next level.”
Despite the looming goodbye, neither actor feels like they’re in farewell mode; both expect to stay close after the show ends. Still, filming brought emotional moments, especially early on.

The premiere episode of Season 4 centers on Alice’s graduation from Port Haven High School, a milestone that hit close to home.
“The first episode was almost harder for me than the later ones,” Laflamme-Snow said. “There’s so much about moving on and stepping into the future. Those scenes felt incredibly emotional -- and I think they will surprise viewers.”
For Williams, whose past credits include Versailles and Baxter, Season 4 offered a chance to go deeper than ever with Elliot.
“With this kind of work, you have to keep digging,” he said. “Once you excavate one layer, the only place left to go is deeper. That collaboration with the writers and cast really braids everything together.”

He admits Elliot’s journey surprised him. “I never expected he’d end up where he is after four seasons,” Williams said. “But there’s an opportunity to be generous—with both your pain and your dreams.”
That emotional depth, he believes, is key to the show’s wide appeal. “The writers are incredibly empathetic and interested in universal truths,” he said. “And with time travel, nothing is accidental -- everything matters.”

Fans can also expect long-awaited answers. “This season is dense,” Williams added. “Burning questions will be resolved. It’ll feel like opening a gift we’ve spent years wrapping.”
As for time travel itself, Laflamme-Snow is content staying in the present, especially if it means keeping modern comforts like daily showers. Williams, on the other hand, would gladly take the plunge—literally.
“I’d go back to see my father or grandfather as young men,” he said. “That’s part of the show’s magic, the wish fulfillment of connecting with loved ones before we knew them.”
When it comes to where the story ends, both actors have high hopes for their characters.
Laflamme-Snow sees Alice finding independence without losing her roots. “She’s driven by healing her family and getting answers,” she said. “Her happy ending is being able to spread her wings, maybe leave Port Haven, but still stay connected, and yes, with a little romance. It is Hallmark, after all.”

Williams, who shares a close off-screen friendship with Chyler Leigh (Kat Landry), is firmly in Team Kat and Elliot—though with an important caveat.
“Elliot has loved Kat from the start,” he said. “But I’d want their future to be based on something new—not just old patterns.”
He noted that Elliot’s difficult upbringing led him to see the Landry’s as a surrogate family, while Kat often leaned on him as a fallback. “What I’d hope for them is real partnership,” Williams said. “I want them to have parity, and a chance to discover who they are, both separately and together.”
The Way Home Season 4 premieres on Hallmark on Sunday, April 19, at 9/8c.

‘Happy Days’ Star Explains Why He’s Still Working 50 Years After No. 1 Hit Show
In 1976, Happy Days was the number one hit show on television. Starring Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Anson Williams, Don Most, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, and more, the series attracted more than 50 million viewers per week at the height of its popularity in the mid-1970s.
At the center of the hoopla was Winkler, whose Fonzie character appeared on posters, t-shirts, lunchboxes, and even as an action figure.
Fifty years after his Happy Days fame, Winkler is still working—and hasn’t even thought about retirement at all.
"It never occurred to me [to retire] because I am so happy in my house with [my wife] Stacey and our children and our grandchildren, and I am so happy when I am working," Winkler, 80, told People magazine in an April 2026 interview. "When I'm doing what I dreamed of doing, and I still get to do it. I still get to be at the table. That is an amazement to me. I am not kidding. I don't take it for granted. I go, 'Oh my God, this is just wonderful.'”
Winkler is grateful for his long careerFollowing his success on Happy Days, Winkler was typecast for a bit. In an interview with AARP, he shared, “I never resented the Fonz. He put a roof over my head. But after Happy Days, I struggled with being locked out of opportunity. …I knew it was necessary to figure out something else because I was completely stymied. I couldn’t just sit there. I had a family, and I am a doer.”
He ultimately started his own production company and wrote children’s books. The acting roles eventually came too. Winkler made a notorious return to television with roles on Arrested Development, Royal Pains, Parks and Recreation, and Barry, the latter of which earned him his very first Primetime Emmy Award for acting. Winkler is currently the host of Hazardous History on the History Channel.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Winkler revealed he is still living out his childhood dream. "I was 8 years old, lying in my bed in Manhattan, dreaming about being an actor, not even sure why,” he shared. “I'm sitting here with you. I am 80. I'm still at the table. And I'm telling you, I define gratitude."
Last December, Winkler appeared on the IMO With Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson podcast and explained that he thinks retirement is “deadly.”
“People keep asking me, Am I gonna retire? Or ‘Have you retired?’ And I think that is like the furthest thing from my imagination,” the Happy Days legend said at the time. “I will retire when I am not able to do, again, more. You know, I just, I think that it is deadly.”
1991 Timeless Ballad From a Bestselling Album Became a No. 1 Hit
“When a Man Loves a Woman,” a well-known song written by Calvin Lewis and Andrew Wright, was originally recorded by Percy Sledge in 1966. Although it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100, this was not the most popular version of the song that has ever been released. There have been many covers over the years by top artists. John Wesley Ryles recorded a version of the song in 1976 and Bette Midler recorded another in 1980.
However, arguably the most popular cover was recorded in 1991 by Michael Bolton. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It helped Time, Love & Tenderness become the bestselling album of his career, selling more than 16 million copies.
This album contained several more hits from Bolton, including “Love Is a Wonderful Thing,” which reached No. 4 on the charts. It also contained “Time, Love and Tenderness,” which reached No. 7, and "Missing You Now," which reached No. 12.
Although this album was considered a massive commercial success, it didn’t receive the most favorable reviews from critics. Many outlets, like The Rolling Stone Album Guide and Entertainment Weekly, criticized his vocals. Dave Marsh wrote, “Bolton's singing amounts to gimmicks—quick falsetto shrieks, occasional gruff huffs—that replicate soul mannerisms without a hint of that music's power for re-creating human feeling.”

However, many fans still love the album to this day. Beneath a video capturing a performance of Bolton singing “When a Man Loves a Woman,” one person said, “Michael Bolton is a literal angel on earth. The way his voice can command an entire room to listen and take in how beautiful his voice is. With every note he breathes effortless perfection with such powerful and passionate delivery.”
Another said, “My wife and I saw him in concert and it was by far the best sounding concert I ever heard. I'm a hard rocker myself but was so surprised at how clean the sound was. Just awesome.”
Michigan, West Virginia, Florida, and Texas Have the Best Cities To Retire In— And None of Them Are the Typical Go-To Spots
Almost every "best of" list about retirement destinations for seniors looking to relocate has the same old places. And while there's a reason that spots like Orlando, Florida always end up near the top of those collections, there are a lot of other places out there worth exploring.
A new list from U.S. World News and Reports seems to take aim at some of those less popular destinations, offering new city suggestions in those states where retirees flock. And while some of these spots may ring a bell, I'm willing to bet that there will be at least one or two that you're unfamiliar with.
West VirginiaWeirton, West Virginia, is near the top of the U.S. World News and Reports list of best places to retire (only beaten out by Midland, Michigan). With a population of just 18,315, it will be a lot easier to meet other seniors once you move here. Plus, the median home value here is just $124,746, so retirees with plenty of equity in their current home could end up living mortgage-free when they move here and buy a new home.
And the benefits don't end there, either. According to Senior Site, the Mountain State offers a low cost of living and plenty of tax perks, including those for people looking to move somewhere with low taxes on retirement income. That's because the state began phasing out its taxes on Social Security benefits in 2024, which means that this income will be tax-free by 2026.
FloridaLike I said, just about every retirement list includes Orlando towards the top. But what if I told you that U.S. World News and Reports named several other Florida cities among the best of the best, including Homosassa Springs, which ranked in third place on a list of 250 spots.
The town has a lot going for it, especially if you're a nature lover—I personally used to visit this town as a kid, and we would always go out on the water in the hopes of spotting manatees and alligators—and it comes along with the low income tax burden that many retirees flock to the state for. In addition, you can find really affordable housing here, and the median home value is just $219,581.
Not falling in love with Homosassa Springs? Several other Florida towns made the list, including but not limited to Spring Hill (7th out of 250), Palm Harbor (13th out of 250), Naples (18th out of 250), Pensacola (19th out of 250), and Cape Coral (21st out of 250).
Related: These Are the 3 Worst Southern Cities for Retirement
TexasEverything is bigger in Texas, including the perks for retirees who want to move somewhere like The Woodlands. This community is a big one, which may be why it earned fourth place on the list. And while it may be popular, there's probably a good reason why so many people flock here.
And while you'll pay a little more than the national average to live here—median home values hover right around $474,279, according to the report—Edelman Financial Engines says that the following things will keep you happy in your golden years:
- Low cost of living
- No state income tax
- No taxes on retirement benefits
- Warmer weather
- Mild winters
- Community values
Not feeling The Woodlands? There are several other Texas cities on the list, including Spring (5th out of 250), Victoria (12th out of 250), Pearland (17th out of 250), Conroe (20th out of 250), and League City (25th out of 250).
MichiganAs I said, Orlando, Florida, is often everyone's go-to for the best places to retire. But the U.S. World News and Report actually listed Midland, Michigan, as the winner. Here, homes have a median value of around $206,142. Just like in Florida, there's no tax on Social Security income. However, unlike Florida, Michigan has mild summers, a huge draw for anyone who wants to avoid the heat and humidity in retirement.
Additionally, the state experiences all four seasons (heavy on the winter, naturally), so you won't have to sacrifice diversity when you move here. Believe it or not, Midland wasn't the only Michigan hot spot on the list, and a few other cities also ranked high, including Rochester Hills (14th out of 250), Troy (15th out of 250), and Farmington Hills (31st out of 250).
Of course, where you decide to move in retirement is a deeply personal decision and one that should be made using a variety of criteria, not just where a city lands on a list. That said, there's obviously something drawing folks to these top locations, especially if they are enticing enough to beat out some of the old standbys we're so used to seeing in these roundups.

1979 Country Rock No. 1 Smash Inspired by World's Worst Pickup Line
A 1979 country rock chart-topper may sound like it was born in the heart of Nashville, but its origins trace back to an unlikely source: the world's worst pickup line.
What started as a simple one-liner ended up sparking the idea behind a No. 1 smash. It was the Bellamy Brothers who took that unexpected spark and turned it into an unforgettable country rock hit, transforming a sentence from a vintage TV game show into a chart-topping anthem.
The Bellamy Brothers were inspired by comedy legend Groucho Marx and the television series You Bet Your Life, reported Songfacts. The line that inspired the now-iconic song title was "If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?"
Howard Bellamy said, "I have to give credit for that line to Groucho Marx. Of course you've heard of the Marx Brothers. Groucho used to have a show on TV when we were growing up, which I hate to even admit how long ago that was. But he had a show called You Bet Your Life."

Howard continued, "He'd have guests on, and different quiz questions. And Groucho smoked a cigar – that tells you how long ago it was, he smoked cigars on a TV show. He'd use that line occasionally, he'd say, 'If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?' and shake his cigar, and kind of raise his eyebrows."

The songwriter concluded, "Our family always had a weird southern sense of humor and they'd use that line around a lot. So it just came one day that it'd be a great song title."
In a story published by the website Alabama Live, Howard added that the song's popularity came with some unexpected, but welcome, perks. "I can remember it was first a hit on radio and as we were on tour it was a great time in life. We had to judge all these beautiful body contests that particular year. It's a very fond memory."

The colorful set has already started popping up on social media thanks to its vibrant palette and effortlessly entertaining-ready vibe. With summer gatherings on the horizon, it's easy to see why people are tossing it straight into their carts.

Mediterranean-Inspired Style Without the Plane Ticket View this post on InstagramUser @costconewdeals shared a video of the new seven-piece melamine lazy Susan set that channels classic Mediterranean design, borrowing visual cues from traditional ceramics found in places like the Amalfi Coast and the Iberian Peninsula.
The bright blues and sunny yellows echo the tones often seen in Italian Deruta pottery, Spanish Talavera ceramics and Portuguese azulejo tiles. The other colorway, a more neutral design, features gray designs with a similar Mediterranean aesthetic.
Swirling floral motifs and vine-like patterns give the set a hand-painted look, while the decorative borders and symmetrical detailing add to its old-world charm. While it isn't produced in the Mediterranean region, the design elements clearly nod to that iconic style.
Because the set is made of melamine, it's lightweight and durable enough for patio tables, poolside snacks or picnics at the park. Unlike delicate ceramic pieces, this version is designed to handle everyday use without stress.
