Finding the right cat tree can feel like a challenge, especially if you want something that gives your cat space to nap, perch, play, and scratch all in one. Many options either take up too much room or lack the features cats actually use. The good news is there are compact designs that still check all the boxes without stretching your budget.

One standout option is the Yaheetech 35.5-Inch Cat Tree. Right now, it is on sale for 37% off at Chewy, bringing the price down from $57 to just $36. It is an affordable pick that still delivers on both function and style.

This cat tree is made from pet-safe materials, including CARB Phase 2-compliant particle board, soft plush fabric, durable acrylic, and natural sisal. It comes in three colors — blue, green, and teal — so you can choose one that fits your space. The overall size is 35.5 inches tall and 19 inches long and wide, making it a great fit for smaller homes or apartments.

Despite its compact footprint, it offers plenty of features. It includes a foam-padded platform, a transparent bowl, a fish-shaped perch, a hanging toy ball, and two sisal-wrapped posts for scratching. These elements give your cat multiple ways to stay active, comfortable, and entertained throughout the day.

One of the most unique features is the clear acrylic bowl, also called a space capsule, where your cat can curl up while still keeping an eye on everything around them. The elevated top perch gives them a perfect lookout spot, while the fish-shaped platform offers a cozy place to relax or play. Together, these features support natural climbing and scratching behaviors while helping protect your furniture.

It’s her new favorite spot.” Another described it as “super sturdy,” adding, “The assembly took less than 30 minutes. Hilton Is Launching a New Apartment Brand and It’s a Game-Changer for Long Stays

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 5:10am

If you’ve ever found yourself scrolling through Airbnb trying to find a "real" apartment but desperately wishing it came with the security and cleanliness of a major hotel, Hilton just heard your prayers.

The hospitality giant officially announced the launch of the Apartment Collection by Hilton, a new brand that promises to bridge the gap between the comforts of home and the reliability of a high-end hotel stay.

Set to launch by June, this isn't just another hotel with small kitchenettes. We are talking full-scale, furnished apartments ranging from studios to sprawling four-bedroom units.

View this post on Instagram

To make it happen, Hilton is partnering with Placemakr, a leader in the urban apartment-stay space. The goal is to give travelers—whether you’re on a month-long work assignment or a bigmulti-generational family reunion—a place where you can actually cook a meal and do a load of laundry without sacrificing 24/7 on-site support.

"Apartment Collection by Hilton represents the next chapter in Hilton’s growth story," says Chris Nassetta, Hilton's president and CEO. He notes that the move is all about "evolving to meet growing guest demand" for a more flexible way to stay.

For those of us who have lived the "digital nomad" life or traveled with a group of friends, the appeal is obvious: you get the chef-ready kitchen and the separate living area, but you also get the peace of mind that comes with a "hosted by Hilton" badge.

The rollout is starting strong in the U.S., with initial bookings expected in major hubs like New York City, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. Perhaps the best news for points enthusiasts is that these stays are fully integrated into Hilton Honors.

You can earn and redeem points just like you would at a Waldorf Astoria or a Hampton Inn, but you’ll be doing it from a rooftop pool or a communal workspace in the heart of a local neighborhood. It’s a savvy pivot for Hilton, proving that while we all love a fancy lobby, sometimes we just want a place where we can actually live our lives while we’re on the road.

1977 Rock Classic Ranked Among ‘Best Road-Trip Songs of All Time’ Became a Timeless Anthem

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 5:05am

In 1977, Iggy Pop's album Lust for Life featured what would become one of his signature songs. “The Passenger” was the B-side to the single “Success.” It never charted in the U.S., yet it remains one of the Godfather of Punk’s most recognizable anthems nearly 50 years later.

Rolling Stone ranked “The Passenger” as one of the best road-trip songs of all time. Describing it as “an ode to driving at night,” the outlet noted that David Bowie played piano on the track, then mused, “Was Pop the passenger in this lyric, giving the steering wheel to the more famous Bowie, or was Bowie the passenger, getting to ride along with Pop and his artistic cred?”

Iggy Pop revealed what inspired ‘The Passenger’

"The Passenger" was co-written by Pop and guitarist Ricky Gardiner. In 2016, Pop told The Guardian the song had several inspirations as he spent time with Bowie, who was “always looking out” for him.

“'The Passenger' was partly written about the fact I’d been riding around North America and Europe in David's car ad infinitum. I didn’t have a driver’s license or a vehicle," Pop shared.

Pop also revealed that he got the song's title from a movie. “I saw [director Michelangelo] Antonioni's [film] The Passenger was playing at the Westwood Theater and it made a big impression on me," he told Uncut in an interview. “'The Passenger' was derived from the Antonioni film, the [Jim] Morrison poem, and a lick that I was doodling in the studio. It was never supposed to be a song.”

RELATED: 1976 No. 1 One-Hit Wonder Was Written in Five Minutes

Gardiner hadn’t expected to write the song

Gardiner was behind the riff on "The Passenger,” but his involvement in the song wasn’t originally planned. It happened when Pop and Bowie, both of whom he knew well from past projects, invited him over to hang out.

“It didn’t occur to me that they would want material,” Gardiner told Total Guitar in a 2012 interview. “But then David said, ‘Have you got anything?’ And I said, ‘Oh well, no…’ to start with, but then I remembered these chords.”

“I had an old Les Paul Junior round my neck, and I was just wandering about and enjoying this fantastic spring morning," he shared of a previous chord progression he had come up with. "I wasn’t paying any attention at all to what I was playing, but I heard these chords, and I thought, ‘Oh, I must remember that…’”

When he played the chords for Pop and Bowie, it all came together.

“Iggy recorded it on his mono battery cassette player with me playing it unplugged on the Strat,” Gardiner recalled. “And then he came back the next morning with the lyrics, and that was it!”

Five decades later, "The Passenger" remains an anthem during Pop's live performances. In April 2026, the music legend, now 78, performed the song for fans at Coachella.

Trader Joe’s Brings Back Limited-Edition $4.99 Tote Bag Fans Are Obsessed With

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 5:03am

Trader Joe’s tote bags are the unexpected fashion accessory of the moment, to the point that when the cult-favorite grocery store releases bags in new colorways, they quickly go viral online.

The Trader Joe’s canvas totes are probably their most recognizable bags, and while we won’t name favorites, we’re partial to the brand’s durable cooler bags. But the tote that is currently causing a commotion among the Trader Joe’s fandom is one you may not first picture when thinking of the chain’s shopping accessories.

Eagle-eyed Trader Joe’s fan page traderjoesobsessed recently spotted a $4.99 jute tote bag at the store, sharing photos of the product on the social media page while declaring “Welcome back to Trader Joe’s!”

View this post on Instagram

The bag in question is made with jute and features retro artwork that says “Trader Joe’s” at the top, followed by “1967” in black font in a red rectangle, then a green rectangle outline with “coffee beans” written inside of it. The “O” in “coffee” is actually a coffee bean, and the green rectangle is framed with the words “product of Pasadena.” The other side of the bag has similar messaging in a different layout, accompanied by the phrase “Premium Roast.”

Related: Trader Joe’s Brings Back ‘Dangerous’ Snack and Fans Are ‘Screaming’

“The coffee bean Pasadena jute bag is back $4.99,” the caption read, noting that it’s a limited release before explaining that the bag is “very sturdy and carries a lot of groceries!” Trader Joe’s fans jumped into the comments to share their excitement, writing, “I’ve had this since it came out and used it weekly. Still looks new!” and sharing that they “Love this one!” More said they already have one and are big fans of it, with one person revealing that they “Got it yesterday along with the purple cooler bag.” “Ugh another one I’m eager to get my hands on,” said another commenter.

The “1967” on the bag is a reference to the year the first Trader Joe’s store opened its doors, but as several commenters pointed out, younger generations may not get the historical nod and instead focus on the trendy phrase. “Sixxxxx sevennnnn,” wrote one as another admitted they “love these but I know what my students will say: 6 7.”

11 Best Hair Thickening Products for Fullness and Lift, Tested by Trichologists

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 4:58am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Hair loss, especially for women, is often treated like a taboo subject—but it's normal for hair to thin with age or due to stress, hormone changes or illness. If you're experiencing hair thinning, there are a lot of hair thickening products on the market to help.

Finding the right ones for you and your scalp is made easier with expert advice from three trichologists Parade consulted with: Tabitha Fredrichs, a board-certified trichologist and CEO of TrichoEDU, Penny James, a board-certified trichologist at Penny James Trichology Center and Tabitha Osman, a master stylist and holistic trichologist at Haven Holistic Salon.

Whether you're looking for a volumizing hair styling product or a prescription hair growth solution, these hair and scalp experts shared some of their tried-and-tested favorites for hair thickening.

Still, it is always worth seeing a doctor to rule out any major medical issues behind new or worsening hair loss. And you can also see a trichologist for a more tailored plan. "The right support products can vary greatly depending on the type of hair loss someone is experiencing," says Osman, adding, "A personalized plan is often the most effective way to support hair regrowth and scalp health."

In the meantime, these products a great starting point for navigating thinning hair—especially if you're looking for a quick cosmetic solution.

Top Hair Thickening ProductsDo Hair Thickening Products Actually Work?

Fredrichs says that many thickening products can work, but they work in different ways. "I always tell my clients that there are two ways to thicken hair. You either make the hair feel bigger with products, or you can help the follicle grow a stronger one," she tells Parade.

Osman adds that most products are designed "to encourage healthier growth and reduce excessive shedding" but they can't grow new follicles. She explains, "[Beauty] products provide immediate cosmetic fullness, while scalp-support products take longer but may help improve hair quality over time."

Related: Why Is My Hair Falling Out?—Here Are 13 Possible Reasons Why It Might Be Happening

How Do Hair Thickening Products Work?

Fredrichs says that "cosmetic thickening" products usually include ingredients like proteins or polymers to "coat or swell the hair fiber to temporarily make the hair bigger." And "biological stimulation" products can "actually support the hair follicle itself" with compounds, growth factors or peptides.

Related: 7 Haircuts for 2026 That Make Thin Hair Look Fuller, According to Celebrity Stylists

How Often Do You Have To Use a Hair Thickening Product?

"Most topical solutions require daily use to maintain their thickening effect," says James. This is especially true for cosmetic products that "work the moment you use them but wash out with the next shampoo," says Fredrichs. She adds that you actually do want them to be easily rinsed away, otherwise products can build up and cause further scalp issues.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

Osman says that if you're using a styling product for voluminous hair, "the results are immediate." But Fredrichs adds things can take more time if you're using "biologics like growth factors or targeted therapies," because you have to wait for the hair growth cycle. "It usually takes about four to six months before people start noticing a real improvement," she explains.

She especially likes the topical gel application because "it is designed to keep the medication in the scalp, where we want it."

11. Best for People with Pets: LOCKrx GF 3X Serum, $236

LOCKrx

Shop It at LOCKrx

When it comes to combating hair loss, products containing minoxidil are popular choices—but that ingredient can also be deadly to your pets, per the ASPCA. As James notes, "Minoxidil is highly toxic for cats." James adds that minoxidil can also be dangerous for dogs, although slightly less so.

If you're too nervous as a pet owner to use a prescription minoxidil product, Fredrichs recommends the LOCKrx serum as "a great option for clients who want a pet-friendly, non-prescription [product] that supports thicker, healthier hair."

The targeted peptide serum uses cell signaling proteins called growth factors for follicle support. "I have seen this work time and time again," Fredrichs says of the product.

Disney World Just Paused Boat Service at These Two Popular Magic Kingdom Resorts

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 4:10am

If you've ever stood on the deck of a ferry watching the Magic Kingdom spires grow larger on the horizon, you know that Disney transportation is usually a "best-kept secret" attraction in its own right.

But for travelers heading to the parks this summer, the logistical choreography behind the scenes is getting a major remix. Staying "on property" has always been the ultimate hack for avoiding the dreaded parking lot shuffle, but a series of overlapping refurbishments means your usual 10-minute commute might require a little more strategy than usual.

The most noticeable shift is currently happening at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, where the rustic charm is currently missing its most vital connection. The resort's primary boat dock officially went offline on April 13, 2026, for a major overhaul that will keep the water taxis docked until at least May 1.

For a resort that feels like a secluded escape, that boat ride isn't just a perk—it’s the lifeline to the Contemporary and Magic Kingdom. Without it, the resort's bus loops are doing some heavy lifting, and those accustomed to the "roll-on" convenience for strollers and wheelchairs are finding themselves back in the fold-and-carry routine of the bus lines.

Related: Disney Just Dropped a $99-Per-Night Summer Hotel Deal That’s Too Good to Miss

View this post on Instagram

But the transport shuffle doesn't stop at the Lodge. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is preparing for its own "no-boat" window starting May 11, 2026. While the monorail is still the king of the castle over there, the temporary closure of the water launch means that thousands of guests will be funneled onto the beams and bus routes at once.

Combine that with the ongoing construction at the Polynesian's front entrance, which has already sent traffic patterns into a tailspin, and you have a recipe for some serious morning congestion.

Related: Disney Hotel Guests Get First Dibs on the New Muppet Roller Coaster

This "musical chairs" of transportation is a good reminder that the Disney bubble relies on every boat, bus and monorail running in perfect sync to keep the crowds moving. When one piece of the puzzle is pulled for maintenance, the ripple effects can turn a "rope drop" morning into a bit of a marathon.

If you’re visiting during this window, the smart move is to treat your transportation like a FastPass—give yourself a 30-minute buffer and maybe grab that extra coffee for the bus ride. The magic is still waiting at the gates, it just might take a slightly different route to get you there this season.

1977 Hit Named ‘Greatest Two-Chord Song of All Time’ Was a No. 1 Smash

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 3:16am

A 1977 classic built on just two chords is getting a surprising new honor nearly 50 years later.

In a countdown video, music producer and educator Rick Beato named "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac as the greatest two-chord song of all time, highlighting how its simplicity is exactly what makes it so powerful.

Related: Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham Reveal What Truly ‘Changed the Course’ of Music History

Released as a single from the band’s landmark 1977 album Rumours, “Dreams” went on to become the group’s only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. But its legacy has only grown in the decades since, with the song landing at No. 9 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Related: Fleetwood Mac Guitar Icon Named Most Tortured Rock Artist of all Time by BBC Music

Beato’s pick underscores something that might seem counterintuitive—sometimes the simplest songs are the hardest to pull off: “There are actually some big hit songs with only two chords.”

According to Beato, what separates songs like “Dreams” is how complete they feel despite their minimal structure.

“The reason that they sound like complete songs is because they have great verses and they have even better choruses," he explains in the video.

He goes on to say that in each case, the chorus does the heavy lifting, with vocal harmonies rising in pitch and intensity, creating the sense of movement that the chord progression itself doesn’t provide.

Related: Fleetwood Mac Legend Launches New Project With Daughter, Fans Call It ‘Brilliant’

“The choruses are in a higher range vocally and it makes them sound complete," says Beato.

While “Dreams” takes his top spot, Beato also highlighted two other iconic tracks built on just two chords.

The first is "A Horse with No Name" by America, released in 1971. The folk-rock hit became the band’s breakthrough single, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and quickly becoming one of the most recognizable acoustic-driven songs of its era. Its hypnotic, desert-like atmosphere is driven almost entirely by its repeating chord pattern, proving how far mood alone can carry a track.

Related: A ‘Worst Music’ Series Just Unearthed the Most Polarizing Album of All Time

The second is "Something in the Way" by Nirvana, from the band’s 1991 album Nevermind. Unlike the other two songs, its power comes from stark minimalism and emotional weight. Beato even noted the unusual recording approach behind it:

“The producer of this record recorded the singer lying down playing the classical guitar in the control room doing the lead vocal," he says.

That stripped-down recording style helped give the song its haunting, intimate feel—a stark contrast to the radio polish of “Dreams,” yet equally effective within its two-chord framework.

Still, it’s “Dreams” that rises above the rest.

Related: Journey Fans Push Back After Neal Schon’s Steve Perry Comments Spark Fresh Debate

Written by Stevie Nicksduring a turbulent period for the band, the song emerged from the emotional fallout surrounding the Rumours sessions, when multiple relationships within the group were unraveling—ultimately becoming one of the most enduring breakup anthems of its era. Nicks famously wrote it in about 10 minutes.

Its understated production only adds to its mystique. Built around a steady drum loop and airy instrumentation, “Dreams” leans into atmosphere rather than complexity, allowing Nicks’ distinctive vocal to take center stage.

And its impact hasn’t faded. In 2020, the song surged back into the charts after a viral video introduced it to a new generation, sending it back onto the Billboard Hot 100 more than four decades after its release. That kind of longevity is no accident. The song’s emotional clarity and musical restraint make it timeless.

Sometimes, two chords are all it takes.

Quote of the Day: Political Activist Angela Davis on Uplifting Others as We Succeed

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 2:45am

Angela Davis is probably one of the most well-known political activists of our time and one of the most influential women in history. She was born on Jan. 26, 1944, in Birmingham, AL, and went on to become a philosopher, academic, author and social theorist, in addition to her activism. She did a lot of work toward abolishing the prison-industrial complex along with improving civil rights, feminist causes and more. Davis is currently a professor emerita of history of consciousness and feminist studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, per Britannica. She’s written many books and had countless speaking engagements, and in doing so, has given the world some great quotes, making her a good candidate for our quote of the day. And today’s quote is about working toward uplifting others as you are lifting yourself, too.

Davis was exceptional academically; per The History Makers, Davis got a scholarship to finish high school in New York City, then went to school in Germany for two years and the University of Paris for one. As the New Hampshire Center for Justice & Equity reported, she came back to the U.S. and got another scholarship to Brandeis University, studying Philosophy. She then earned her M.A. degree from the University of California, San Diego.

According to the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC), she was an active member of the Black Panther Party and the Communist Party. She came out as a lesbian in an interview with Out magazine in 1997, per NMAAHC, and has since continued to fight oppression that the Black community, women and the LGBTQ+ community all face.

With all of her activism, writings and speaking out against injustice and inequality, Davis has had many great quotes, of course. And the one we’re focusing on today is specific to one of her causes, but can also apply to many people in marginalized communities.

Quote of the Day by Angela Davis

CanvaPro/Parade

“We must always attempt to lift as we climb.”

This quote comes from Angela Y. Davis’s 1990 book, Women, Culture & Politics, in the chapter titled, “Let Us All Rise Together: Radical Perspectives on Empowerment for Afro-American Women.” This book is a collection of speeches and writings by Davis that align with the themes of the book, specifically “the political and social changes of the past decade as they are concerned with the struggle for racial, sexual, and economic equality,” per the book’s description.

Early on in this chapter, Davis mentions something similar to our quote of the day, when she shares the motto for the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs (NACWC): “Lifting As We Climb.”

Related: Quote of the Day: Jimmy Carter on Nature and Connection

Deeper Meaning of Angela Davis’s Quote—Uplifting Others as You Succeed

Davis starts this chapter talking about how “the concept of empowerment is hardly new to Afro-American women,” because they were constantly looking for ways to help each other, since Black women were not included in other fights for equality, such as the “racially homogenous women’s rights movement” of the 19th century. She also notes that the NACWC was “more openly political in nature,” and they welcomed all women.

Davis explains their “Lifting As We Climb” motto as this: they must climb in a way that guarantees the success and empowerment of “all of our sisters, regardless of social class,” including their brothers, so that they can all climb with them as well. She states that the most effective strategies to empower Black women in America are those that follow that motto.

“Afro-American women bring to the women’s movement a strong tradition of struggle around issues that politically link women to the most crucial progressive causes. This is the meaning of the motto, ‘Lifting As We Climb.’ This approach reflects the often unarticulated interests and aspirations of masses of women of all racial backgrounds,” she writes.

Women shouldn’t just fight for one group’s interests—like just the right to vote—but instead focus on all women’s interests or issues that hinder all women, such as racist violence, higher wages, working conditions, homophobia, attacks on reproductive rights, ageism, ableism and more. Essentially, whatever is going to guarantee a better future for our children and their children’s children is what we should fight for, lifting as we climb.

So, even though Davis used this quote to specifically talk about how Black women (and men) should think about their work toward equity and equal rights, it can also apply to many marginalized groups. Or even anyone working toward a better tomorrow.

If we are climbing toward a better world, we shouldn’t just do it for ourselves; we should rise to the top in a way that leaves a ladder behind us. We should want equality and justice for all, and give those climbing behind us the tools or paths to also ascend.

1969 Tearjerker Ranked Among 'Greatest Songs in Country Music' Was a No. 1 Hit 57 Years Ago Today

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 1:24am

Perhaps more than any other musical genre, country music is known for moving listeners to tears. Maybe that's because of the way it sounds, or the sad stories so many country songs tell...like one '60s hit that captures the raw emotions of a homesick soldier who's "afraid of dying."

Of all the partnerships in country music history, songwriter Jimmy Webb and singer Glen Campbell's was definitely one of the most successful. Once Campbell teamed up with Webb, his star rose significantly thanks to a trio of hits including 1967's "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," 1968's "Wichita Lineman," and "Galveston," which went to #1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart on April 19, 1969 and was ranked #8 in CMT's 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music in 2003.

But while Campbell's version of "Galveston" is the most famous, it was actually recorded first by Don Ho, who delivered a more somber take, as American Songwriter reported.

In an effort to downplay the song's implied anti-Vietnam War sentiments, Campbell wore military garb while performing the song for the first time on his variety show and changed some of the lyrics. Ho's original recording featured the line:

“Galveston, oh Galveston / Wonder if she could forget me / I’d go home if they would let me put down this gun and go to Galveston"

Campbell's update had a decidedly different tone:

"Galveston, oh Galveston / I still hear your sea waves crashing / while I watch the cannons flashing, I clean my gun and dream of Galveston"

Jimmy Webb said 'Galveston' wasn't meant to be patriotic

Webb addressed Campbell's revision some four decades later while performing the song during a WFUV Marquee Member show at The Living Room.

“A lot of people are under the impression that it was a patriotic song about the war in Vietnam,” Webb said. “In actual fact…I always did it very slowly."

Webb went on to demonstrate how Campbell performed the song, quipping, “Let’s all go to war."

“For me, it’s always been this song about a guy who’s caught up in something he doesn’t understand and would rather be somewhere else," Webb added before playing it his own way.

Even if Campbell didn't sing "Galveston" the way Webb intended, the song is still considered a classic today.

Pieces like the Mainstays Ceramic Lemon Planter at Walmart are what make a garden or patio feel less like a setup and more like a space with personality.

Best of all, it’s now just $5, making it an easy, low-commitment way to add a little charm to your outdoor setup. Originally priced at $8, the nearly 40% discount makes it an even easier yes. Designed to bring a playful, eye-catching element to your space, this planter features a smattering of 3D lemon shapes finished with watercolor-inspired green leaves. The glossy, glazed finish cream ceramic base color gives it a smooth, polished look, while the soft yellow tones add a fresh, sunlit pop of color that instantly stands out against greenery.

Measuring 6.25 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall and featuring a water drainage hole with a plastic pop-out plug in the bottom, this planter is perfectly sized for small plants like herbs, succulents, or even faux florals. While the lemon design leans bright and summery, it also comes in other equally charming variations, including 3D bows for a softer, coquettish feel and cherries for a slightly retro, playful twist.

Each planter works just as well indoors as it does outside. Style it on a sunny kitchen windowsill, a dining table centerpiece, or a shelf for a subtle pop of color, or bring it out to a patio table, balcony ledge, or garden nook to add a bit of personality among your plants. 2003 Hit Film Ranked by Fans as 'Greatest Book to Movie Adaptation'

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 12:42am

"The book was better than the movie." How many times have you said that over the years?

Once in a while, however, the film adaptation is on par with its source material — or even surpasses it, dare we say. On August 18, 2003 — 23 years ago — the big-screen version of Holes was released. Remember that Disney classic?

Avid readers who grew up in the 1990s certainly remember the book as well, by Louis Sachar. In fact, the award-winning novelist was later enlisted to write the screenplay for the movie, which would star big names like Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight and Shia LaBeouf.

It's no wonder, then, that audiences were on board with the book-to-film adaptation, with fans in a Reddit thread a couple years back naming it "the greatest book to movie adaptation of all time."

The late, great film critic Roger Ebert gave Holes an impressive 3 1/2 out of 4 stars in his review at the time, saying, "The whole movie generates a surprising conviction. No wonder young readers have embraced it so eagerly: It doesn’t condescend, and it founds its story on recognizable human nature. There are all sorts of undercurrents, such as the edgy tension between the Warden and Mr. Sir, that add depth and intrigue; Voight and Weaver don’t simply play caricatures."

Here's the imaginative film's official synopsis, for those who need a refresher: Young Stanley Yelnats, dogged by bad luck stemming from an ancient family curse, is sent to Camp Green Lake, a very weird place that's not green and doesn't have a lake. Once there, he's thrown headlong into the adventure of his life when he and his colorful campmates — Squid, Armpit, Zigzag, Magnet, X-Ray and Zero — must dig a hole a day to keep the warden at bay. But why? Through it all, Stanley and company must forge fast friendships as they try to unearth the mystery of what's really going on in the middle of nowhere.

1982 Classic Named No. 1 Hit Became a Timeless Southern Rock Anthem

Sun, 04/19/2026 - 12:15am

On April 19, 1982, 44 years ago today, 38 Special released their song “Caught Up in You.” At the time, the band from Jacksonville, Florida, hadn’t landed a top hit until that particular release, which took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. The song also became the band’s first Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 chart, according to American Songwriter

RELATED: 1986 No. 1 Rock Hit Voted ‘Greatest Song’ of the Decade, Became a Defining Working-Class Anthem

Written by Richard “Don” Barnes and Jeff Carlisi of 38 Special, alongside frequent collaborators Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan of Survivor, “Caught Up in You” centers on a narrator who is completely consumed by love. The lyrics portray a man so emotionally invested in his significant other that he willingly surrenders himself to the relationship to the point that he’s ready for a lifelong commitment.

The Lyrics

I'm so caught up in you little girl / You're the one that's got me down on my knees / So caught up in you little girl / That I never wanna get myself free / And baby it's true you're the one / Who taught me baby you taught me / How good it could be,” the final chorus of the song goes. “Little girl, you're the one that's got me down on my knees / So caught up in you little girl / That I never wanna get myself free / And baby it's true you're the one / Who's caught me and taught me / You got me so caught up in you.”

A Southern Rock Anthem

Despite the strong romantic theme that runs through the song, “Caught Up in You” isn’t quite suited to be a wedding song as it, instead, features an upbeat tempo, a punchy rhythm, and a recognizable guitar riff. The energetic feel of the tune gives the song a live concert feel and danceable quality that has turned it into an undeniable rock anthem and a staple of the classic Southern Rock genre, even decades after its release.

Co-founded by Barnes and Donald “Donnie” Van Zant (the youngest brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and current frontman Johnny Van Zant), 38 Special was formed in 1974. They released their debut self-titled album in 1977, followed by Special Delivery a year later.

It wasn’t until the ‘80s that the group began mastering their craft and sound with the release of the album, Wild-Eyed Southern Boys, which featured their breakthrough hit “Hold On Loosely.” The song entered the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, landing at the No. 27 spot. “Caught Up In You” soon followed and appeared on the 1982 album, Special Forces. Follow-up hits included “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Like No Other Night,” and many others.

’90s Rock Band Announces Exciting News After Major Support

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 11:22pm

The unexpected cultural crossover between sports and music brought renewed attention to the rock band Korn after a high-profile fan moment at a Major League Baseball game.

Back in March, Mason Miller debuted a high-intensity walkout during the San Diego Padres' game against the Detroit Tigers.

Instead of the usual entrance, the 27-year-old pitcher stole the spotlight as he stepped onto the field to the sound of the band’s 1994 hit song “Blind.”

This surprising move sparked a major chart resurgence and debuted on multiple Billboard charts, as noted by Forbes.

More than three decades after it was released, the single debuted at No. 2 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, a music chart under Billboard that ranks the most popular hard rock songs in the United States based on sales performance.

Moreover, “Blind” also topped the metal iTunes charts after music fans and baseball enthusiasts started streaming the song following its viral moment in an MLB game.

To show their deep appreciation, Korn surprised Miller with unexpected gifts as a ‘thank you’ for his standout gesture that brought their music back into the spotlight.

Shared by the San Diego Padres on their Instagram, the hard-throwing MLB pitcher received a package that included a ton of merch from the band.

The locker room was filled with Korn apparel, including hoodies, t-shirts, socks, shoes, bags and more.

View this post on Instagram

What made the present special was a note from Korn’s manager, Mark Wakefield.

“I can't tell you how excited we are to see you using ‘Blind’ as your walk-out music. The band is so honored and appreciative, and if there's anything we can do for you, please reach out any time. We'd love to have you out to a show when your schedule permits. [illegible] In the meantime, here's some merch. If any of it is too small, or you'd like something else, please don't hesitate to holler. Wishing you a successful season, and hopefully we'll see you soon! Best, Mark,” the message reads as shown in the video.

Miller, who seemed thrilled with the surprise, also expressed his gratitude to the band, noting, “Appreciate these guys. Kicks for the road trip. Ready to roll. Thank y'all. Appreciate it. And excited to keep running out to the music, man. Thank you.”

“Blind” was the opening track from Korn’s self-titled debut album, released in 1994. The single is considered a defining moment in the nu metal genre due to its popularity and influence.

He's Played Some of the Strangest and Scariest Characters Ever—Now He's 80

Sat, 04/18/2026 - 11:00pm

If you’ve gone to a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show or been a fanatic of the 1990 iteration of Pennywise, you already know it's Tim Curry'sbirthday.

The beloved performer is 80 on April 19, 2026, and his career is one of those rare, shape-shifting runs that spans generations, genres and mediumsm anchored by characters that are anything but ordinary.

For many fans, Curry will always be synonymous with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As the flamboyant, unforgettable Dr. Frank-N-Furter, he didn’t just steal scenes, he created a cultural phenomenon. The film, which has become one of the most enduring cult classics of all time, thrives on Curry’s fearless, electric performance. Decades later, audiences are still dressing up, singing along and celebrating the role that made him an icon.

But that was just the beginning.

In 1990, Curry introduced an entirely different kind of character to audiences with It, based on Stephen King’s novel. As Pennywise the Dancing Clown, he delivered a performance that was equal parts playful and deeply unsettling—one that continues to haunt viewers and set the standard for horror villains.

Then there’s Clue, where Curry showcased his impeccable comedic timing as the fast-talking, endlessly entertaining Wadsworth. The film has since become a cult favorite in its own right, with Curry at the center of its rapid-fire humor and multiple endings.

What makes his career so fascinating is its range. Curry could be theatrical and over-the-top one moment, then slyly comedic or genuinely menacing the next. Whether he was leading the charge or elevating a supporting role, he had a way of making every performance feel unforgettable.

That versatility extended to voice work as well. From animated series to family films, Curry’s distinctive voice brought a whole new dimension to his characters, proving that his talent wasn’t limited to what audiences could see on screen.

In later years, Curry stepped back from acting following a stroke in 2012, but his legacy has only grown stronger. His performances continue to resonate, finding new audiences while longtime fans revisit the roles that made him such a singular presence.

At 80, Curry represents something truly unique: a performer who never fit into just one box—and never tried to. Whether you first encountered him in fishnets and heels, lurking in the shadows, or delivering perfectly timed punchlines, his characters have a way of staying with you. And that’s the magic of Curry.
