The Cold Drink Dominating Spanish Summers Just Landed in U.S. Grocery Shelves for the First Time
In Spain, the heat hits you the second you step outside, a blast that can turn the plazas into ovens before noon. For locals, navigating that heat doesn’t always come in the form of an air conditioner. It comes in a carton pulled straight from the bottom shelf of a corner supermercado, poured thick and cold into a glass.
That drink is gazpacho, and for three decades, one green carton has held the largest market share in Spain: Alvalle. Now, PepsiCo is stocking those same cartons in American grocery stores.
Starting August 5, PepsiCo is rolling out Alvalle gazpacho across select Whole Foods Market locations in the United States. It's the first time Spain’s top-selling commercial gazpacho brand is available on U.S. retail shelves, where it will sit in the refrigerated produce section.
Food giants are increasingly fighting over the store perimeter. U.S. grocery shoppers continue buying more fresh, refrigerated items from the area, buying fewer canned and shelf-stable goods from the center aisles.
"Alvalle meets a very real consumer need—people want food made from recognizable ingredients that fits into their everyday lives," Pol Codina, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Food Ventures at PepsiCo, said in a statement. "As we expand our portfolio, we are focused on bringing more real, ingredient-forward foods into everyday eating occasions."
(Photo: PepsiCo)Founded in southern Spain in 1992 and acquired by PepsiCo in 1999, Alvalle produces its soup using raw tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, onions, salt, vinegar, and extra-virgin olive oil. The ingredients are blended raw and kept cold without heat treatment, following the standard regional preparation used across southern Europe.
In Spain, gazpacho is consumed throughout the day, poured into drinking glasses at midday meals, taken as an afternoon refreshment, or served cold in bowls. Bringing the product to the U.S. market introduces a cold-soup format to a retail region where shoppers predominantly buy soup as a hot dish.
To get Americans on board, PepsiCo is pushing the soup for more than just a bowl. The brand suggests using the chilled soup as a versatile everyday pantry item. Ideas range from sipping it cold out of a glass for a quick lunch to pouring it as a party app in shot glasses. The company also suggests using it as a raw vegetable topping bar base with diced cucumber and feta, or swapping it in as a direct marinade for grilled chicken and shrimp.
"The way people eat continues to evolve, and we're seeing growing demand for foods that combine convenience, quality and great taste," said Marisa Perez, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Fresh Experiences Portfolio at PepsiCo Foods U.S. "Whether it's an addition to a busy weekday lunch, an afternoon snack or a casual summer gathering, Alvalle offers a ready-to-enjoy option."
PepsiCo chose Whole Foods Market for the initial product launch. The cartons are positioned in the store's cold produce cases alongside fresh juices and prepared foods, making the Spanish staple available to U.S. buyers starting this week.
1985 Rock Song, Written for 'The Breakfast Club,' Became a No. 1 Hit
When The Breakfast Club premiered in 1985, one song quickly became tied to the coming-of-age film and went on to define an era. "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds became the Scottish band's biggest hit after reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, despite the group initially refusing to record it.
Written by producer Keith Forsey and guitarist Steve Schiff for the John Hughes film, the song was created specifically for The Breakfast Club. It later became the opening and closing theme of the movie and helped introduce Simple Minds to a much wider audience in North America.

The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on Feb. 23, 1985. Nearly three months later, it climbed to No. 1 on May 18, spending one week at the top while remaining on the chart for 22 weeks. It remains the band's only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached No. 1 in Canada, No. 7 in the United Kingdom, and the Top 10 in several countries around the world.
Before Simple Minds recorded the song, the band turned it down because they preferred performing material they had written themselves.
The song had already been offered to several artists, including Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol, but they also declined. Ferry later said, "It was just bad timing ... Keith Forsey sent me a demo of the song and it sounded like a hit to me."
Simple Minds still were not convinced after watching a private screening of The Breakfast Club. Lead singer Jim Kerr later admitted, "We couldn't give a toss about teenage American schoolkids."
The band's decision changed after Kerr's wife at the time, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, encouraged him to reconsider. Kerr later recalled in an interview with The Guardian:
"'I like the song,' she said. 'What's the problem?' Finally, the writer, Keith Forsey, phoned me and rather cleverly said: 'I'm a huge fan of the band. How about I just spend a couple of days with you? Maybe we'll do something in the future.'"
After spending time together, Simple Minds agreed to record the track.
During the recording sessions, Kerr added the now-famous "hey hey hey" opening and the "la la la" ending. He originally planned to replace them with new lyrics, but Forsey insisted they remain in the final version. Guitarist Charlie Burchill also added the song's powerful guitar chords, helping shape the anthem fans know today.
Years later, Burchill admitted the band had misjudged the song. In 2016, he said, "When I listen to it now, it's obviously a brilliant, well-crafted pop song. I'm embarrassed we dissed it so much."
The song's influence has continued well beyond the 1980s. It has been covered by several artists, including Boy & Bear featuring Annie Hamilton and the cast of Glee. Grunge recently included it among the five songs that best captured the experience of high school life in 1985, calling it one of the defining anthems of the era.
Simple Minds also continue to perform the hit decades after its release. The band recently closed the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with performances of "Alive and Kicking" and "Don't You (Forget About Me)."
They are also preparing for their V Tour 2027, which includes arena dates across Australia and New Zealand.
What started as a soundtrack recording that nearly went to another artist became Simple Minds’ signature hit.

The Halloween Colors That Have Real Meaning, According to a Real-Life Witch
Orange and black may be the first colors that come to mind when you think of Halloween, but according to real-life witch Cassidy Claspell, Halloween's color palette is about much more than seasonal decorating.
In many folk traditions, each color carries its own symbolism, with ties to protection, harvest, remembrance and the changing of the seasons. "Traditional Halloween colors aren't just a random palette," explains Cassidy Claspell, the traditional witch and mystic behind @veilandaltar. "In the world of witchcraft, each one is doing a specific job."
From black candles and white ghosts to purple accents and orange pumpkins, here's what some of Halloween's most iconic colors have traditionally represented.
Meet the Real-Life Witch Real-life witch Cassidy Claspell explains the true meanings behind traditional Halloween colors.Cassidy Claspell
BlackBlack has become synonymous with spooky season, but Claspell says its meaning is far different than many people assume.
"Black shows up because in a lot of folk practice it represents protection and banishing, not villainy," Cassidy says. "It's the color used to absorb and ward off negative energy rather than invite it in."
OrangeFrom pumpkins to autumn leaves, orange is everywhere during Halloween—and for good reason.
"Orange ties back to the harvest itself, standing in for the last burst of the sun's vitality before the year turns toward winter," Cassidy shares.
PurplePurple has long been associated with mystery, magic and the unknown, making it a natural fit for Halloween.
"Purple gets used for its association with intuition and the thinning veil between worlds, since it's long been linked to divination and spirit work in folk tradition," says Cassidy.
WhiteGhost costumes may seem like a playful Halloween tradition, but Claspell says the color white has deeper roots in folklore.
"White carries meaning as the color of spirits and purification in a lot of folk customs," Cassidy says, "which is part of why ghosts are traditionally depicted in white sheets rather than any other color."
GreenWhile it may not be one of Halloween's most obvious colors, green frequently appears in witches' décor, potion bottles and enchanted forests.
"Green ties back to the natural cycle of decay and growth, and to fae folklore in Celtic tradition, representing the idea that death feeds new life rather than simply ending it," Cassidy tells us.
McDonald's, Taco Bell and Dunkin' Once Served These 10 Breakfasts—and We Want Them Back Now
Fast-food chains have built loyal followings over the decades, with many fans developing strong connections to certain menu items that became part of their dining experience. Whether it was a limited-time offering, a seasonal favorite or an everyday menu staple, some products left a lasting impression on customers long after they disappeared from restaurant menus.
While fast-food brands are constantly introducing new items to keep things fresh, those changes often come at the cost of removing other items on the menu. As new products arrive, older favorites are sometimes pushed aside and eventually discontinued. For some customers, the removal of these items is a welcome change, especially if they never lived up to the hype. For others, however, their disappearance left a noticeable void, sparking petitions, social media campaigns and ongoing requests for their return.

Over the years, countless menu items have quietly faded away without much fanfare, leaving fans wondering why they were ever removed in the first place. Some have briefly returned due to popular demand, while others remain distant memories that customers still talk about today. From classic breakfast sandwiches to fun morning meals (waffle taco, anyone?), these discontinued fast-food items continue to generate conversation long after their final days on the menu.
Discontinued Fast-Food Breakfast ItemsHere are a few of our gone-but-not-forgotten fast-food breakfast favorites that have silently disappeared over the years.
1. McDonald's Egg White DelightThe Egg White Delight was introduced by McDonald's in 2013 as a healthier alternative to the classic Egg McMuffin. It was aimed at health-conscious fast-food customers looking for a lighter breakfast option who still wanted to enjoy a familiar McDonald's favorite. The sandwich featured egg whites, white cheddar cheese and Canadian bacon on a whole grain English muffin.
While it developed a loyal following over the years, the Egg White Delight began disappearing from some locations around 2018. As McDonald's focused on simplifying its menu and streamlining operations, the breakfast sandwich was ultimately discontinued nationwide in 2020.
2. Taco Bell Waffle TacoWhen Taco Bell introduced the Waffle Taco in 2014, it instantly became one of the most talked about fast-food breakfast items in the country. The concept was simple but memorable: a folded waffle filled with scrambled eggs and sausage, served with syrup on the side. It was portable, unique and unlike anything customers had seen from a major fast-food chain.
The Waffle Taco helped launch Taco Bell's breakfast menu and generated plenty of curiosity from customers eager to try something different. Its sweet-meets-savory combination and novel look was a fun alternative to a traditional breakfast sandwich. Despite the attention it received, the Waffle Taco didn't stay around for long, and it was eventually replaced by other breakfast offerings. Today, the Waffle Taco remains one of the most memorable fast-food breakfast experiments.
3. McDonald's Steak, Egg and Cheese BagelFor many McDonald's fans, few breakfast items have reached cult-favorite status quite like the Steak, Egg and Cheese Bagel. Packed with a folded egg, melty American cheese, grilled onions and a seasoned steak patty, it delivered a hearty breakfast that felt more substantial than the chain's traditional breakfast sandwiches. The real star, however, was the creamy breakfast sauce that tied everything together and helped create a flavor profile unlike anything else on the menu.
Over the years, the sandwich developed a loyal following that continued to ask for its return whenever it disappeared from locations. While McDonald's has brought it back in select markets from time to time, availability remains inconsistent across the country. For many customers, the Steak, Egg and Cheese Bagel represents a period when McDonald's wasn't afraid to offer larger, more indulgent breakfast options that stood out from the competition.
4. Dunkin' Donut FriesWhen Dunkin' introduced Donut Fries, they quickly became one of the chain's most talked-about sweet treats. These bite-sized pastries were shaped like french fries, but they delivered the flavor of a classic donut. Coated in cinnamon sugar and served warm, they offered a crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy center. The portable snack was perfect for pairing with a morning coffee or enjoying as an afternoon pick-me-up.
While the item developed a loyal following among customers, it eventually disappeared from menus, leaving many fans disappointed. Even today, Donut Fries remain one of Dunkin's most requested discontinued menu items.
5. McDonald's Fruit and Yogurt ParfaitThe Fruit and Yogurt Parfait was once one of the lighter breakfast and snack options available at McDonald's. Layered with low-fat vanilla yogurt, fresh strawberries, blueberries and crunchy granola, it offered customers a refreshing alternative to the chain's more indulgent breakfast offerings.
While it may not have generated the same excitement as breakfast sandwiches or hash browns, the parfait attracted health-conscious customers looking for a quick grab-and-go option. It also became a popular choice for parents seeking something lighter for their kids. During the menu reductions that occurred in 2020, the Fruit and Yogurt Parfait was one of several items removed to simplify operations. Even years later, many customers still remember it as one of the better fresh-food options McDonald's ever offered.

6. Taco Bell Biscuit Taco Taco bell is releasing a new breakfast taco - the biscuit tacoby u/BACON_BATTLE in food
Following the departure of the Waffle Taco, Taco Bell introduced the Biscuit Taco as another attempt to shake up the breakfast category. Instead of a waffle shell, this version featured a warm biscuit folded around eggs, cheese and breakfast meat, creating a more traditional flavor profile while maintaining the taco-inspired presentation.
The Biscuit Taco offered a heartier and more familiar breakfast experience for customers who weren't sold on the sweet-and-savory nature of its predecessor. While it attracted a dedicated fan base, it ultimately struggled to achieve long-term success. Like many limited fast-food innovations, it quietly disappeared from menus as Taco Bell continued refining its breakfast lineup. Even so, it remains a favorite among fans who appreciated its unique take on a breakfast sandwich.
7. McDonald's McSkillet BurritoOne breakfast item that many McDonald's fans still talk about today is the McSkillet Burrito. Unlike the chain's traditional breakfast sandwiches, this oversized burrito packed a little bit of everything into one convenient meal. It featured scrambled eggs, sausage, crispy breakfast potatoes, peppers, onions and melty cheese all wrapped inside a warm flour tortilla.
It was the kind of breakfast that could actually keep you full well into lunchtime. While it didn't stick around on menus forever, it quickly developed a loyal following among customers who wanted something a little more filling than a biscuit or McMuffin. Years later, many fans still wish McDonald's would bring it back.
8. Dunkin' Beyond Breakfast SandwichOne of the more unique breakfast items Dunkin' experimented with was the Beyond Breakfast Sandwich. Introduced in 2019 through a partnership with Beyond Meat, the sandwich featured a plant-based Beyond Sausage patty topped with egg and American cheese on an English muffin. It quickly gained attention as one of the first major plant-based breakfast sandwiches offered nationwide by a quick-service restaurant chain. The sandwich was praised for delivering a sausage-like flavor and texture while providing a meat-free alternative for vegetarians and flexitarians alike.
Although it developed a loyal following, Dunkin' ultimately removed the item from its national menu in 2021 due to lower-than-expected demand. Today, the Beyond Breakfast Sandwich remains a discontinued menu favorite that many Dunkin' fans still hope will make a return.
9. Jack in the Box Big Waffle StackThe Big Waffle Stack was one of those breakfast sandwiches that immediately stood out from everything else on the menu. Introduced by Jack in the Box, the sandwich traded traditional bread for two warm waffles, creating a sweet and savory breakfast option that felt more like something you'd order at a diner than a fast-food drive-thru.
The sandwich featured a combination of eggs, melted cheese, bacon, sausage and ham stacked between the waffles, making it one of the chain's most indulgent breakfast offerings. While plenty of breakfast sandwiches focus on convenience, the Big Waffle Stack was designed for customers looking for a hearty meal packed with flavor. The combination of salty breakfast meats and sweet waffles helped it develop a loyal fan base among breakfast lovers.
10. McDonald's Cinnamon MeltsFor those with a sweet tooth, the Cinnamon Melts were a McDonald's breakfast item that was hard to pass up. These warm pastries were packed with cinnamon flavor and topped with a thick layer of cream cheese icing that made every bite feel like a special treat.
They offered a nice change of pace from the usual breakfast sandwiches, and they quickly became a favorite among customers. Whether you grabbed one alongside your morning coffee or enjoyed it as a quick breakfast on the go, the Cinnamon Melts always hit the spot. Years after being discontinued, fans are still asking McDonald's to bring them back.

The 'Master of Horror Twists' Turns 56 Today
Sometimes it’s hard to believe, but yes, M. Night Shyamalan turns 56 today! The director and “King of Horror Twists” was born on Aug. 6, 1970.
Love his twists or hate them, you know that he set the bar when it came to going into a movie without any spoilers at all. However, once you do know the twist, you find yourself watching again so that you can figure out if there were signs of it from the beginning.
While he is best known for his horror movies, Shyamalan, whose real name is Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan, co-wrote the 1999 movie Stuart Little. It would go on to be a massive success with families, but his role in the creation is often overlooked due to his pivot into the world of horror. In fact, in the same year, The Sixth Sense was released, which would put him on the map when it came to exciting and mind-bending twists.
Little do some know, but because of the success of The Sixth Sense, director Steven Spielberg asked Shyamalan to write the screenplay for the fourth Indiana Jones movie. While he did originally say yes, he stepped away from it, realizing that tackling the writing for his childhood hero would be too overwhelming.
MADRID, SPAIN - AUGUST 01: M. Night Shyamalan attends "La Trampa" photocall at the Four Seasons Hotel on August 01, 2024 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Pablo Cuadra/Getty Images)After that release, he did have some major missteps in the world of movies. The Last Airbender was a massive flop at the box office, and that was followed by After Earth. So, he ended up having to take a self-financing gamble to create 2015’s The Visit. With just a $5 million budget, the movie would make $98 million in the box office worldwide, and since then, he’s opted for self-funding his projects, including the creation of Split, Glass, and the most recent horror hit Trap.
In a way, it’s great for him as it means that he can have full creative control. It doesn’t always work out, as many know from the criticism that Knock at the Cabin got. At the same time, it means he can easily get his Alfred Hitchcock-style cameos, which include small appearances in The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and much more. It makes him one of the most identifiable directors in the whole of Hollywood.
In recent years, Shyamalan has even turned to writing novels. He co-wrote Remain by romance author Nicholas Sparks. That novel is being turned into a movie, which is set for release in February 2027. It’s a romantic-thriller, and Shyamalan has teased that the movie adaptation will return to his supernatural beginnings, exciting fans of The Sixth Sense.
1960 Dance Craze, Performed on Dick Clark's Show 66 Years Ago Today, Climbed the Charts From No. 49 to No. 1
"The Twist" was already on the Billboard Hot 100 before Chubby Checker ever danced it on television.
The song entered the chart on Aug. 1, 1960, debuting at No. 49, and Dick Clark had been playing it on American Bandstand that summer. Then, 66 years ago today, Clark brought Checker onto the Saturday night edition of his show to lip-synch the song and demonstrate the dance. By the week of Sept. 19 it was the No. 1 song in America.
The Song Was Not His"The Twist" belonged to Hank Ballard, who cut it with the Midnighters in 1959. Clark considered Ballard's version too suggestive for a mainstream audience, so Philadelphia's Cameo Parkway Records recorded its own with a teenager named Ernest Evans on vocals.
Evans needed a name. During the sessions, Clark's wife Barbara decided the kid already nicknamed "Chubby" reminded her of a junior version of Fats Domino. Checker it was.
No. 1 Twice"The Twist" held No. 1 for a single week in September 1960, then fell away. It came back. In January 1962 it spent two more weeks on top, a feat only one other song has matched since, Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
Checker placed seven singles in the Hot 100's top 10, among them "Pony Time" and "Limbo Rock." None of them traveled the way the first one did. Billboard ranked "The Twist" the No. 1 song in Hot 100 history on its all-time list, a position it held until 2021, and in 2012 the Library of Congress added the recording to its National Recording Registry.
Checker was still performing "The Twist" onstage more than 60 years later. He had been eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since its first class in 1986 and was never nominated until 2025, when he went in on his first ballot. The Hall gave him his trophy early, at a July concert in Des Plaines, Illinois. He skipped the November ceremony and booked a gig for that night instead.

'Build Me Up Buttercup' Original Turns 97
For nearly six decades, "Build Me Up Buttercup" has remained one of pop music's most joyful singalongs, a song that still fills dance floors, movie soundtracks, sporting events and playlists around the world. This week, one of the original musicians behind that enduring hit is celebrating a milestone birthday.
Mike Elliott, the Jamaican-born British saxophonist and co-founding member of The Foundations, turns 97 on Aug. 6. Elliott was part of the band's original horn section and played on the recordings that helped establish the group as one of the defining British soul acts of the late 1960s.
Although many listeners know The Foundations best for "Build Me Up Buttercup," Elliott was already with the band when they broke through in 1967 with "Baby, Now That I've Found You." The single topped the UK charts and reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, introducing audiences to the group's Motown-inspired sound. Elliott remained with The Foundations through its earliest hit-making years, performing on the band's first three hit singles before departing in 1968.
Success didn't come easily. Before "Baby, Now That I've Found You" became a smash, the band struggled to make ends meet while running a London club themselves, often surviving on little more than leftover food and inexpensive bags of rice. Elliott's own living situation became something of a legend. According to lead singer Clem Curtis in an interview with the UK's Record Mirror, he was renting a room in a condemned house after workers had literally removed the roof. When Curtis asked, "Hey, Mike, where's your roof gone?" Elliott simply replied, "I don't know, man, they just came and knocked it off."
The group's fortunes changed almost overnight after "Baby, Now That I've Found You" caught on. Curtis later recalled to Rebeat Mag that producer Tony Macaulay had offered the band two songs, "Baby, Now That I've Found You" and "Let the Heartaches Begin." The group chose the former because Curtis felt it better suited his voice, adding that he "really had no idea it would be such a success." The decision proved pivotal, launching The Foundations onto the international stage.
Just over a year later came "Build Me Up Buttercup," which climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's signature song in the United States. While Elliott had already left the group by the time the single was released, he helped establish the original Foundations lineup that made the band's success possible and was an original member during its breakthrough era.
Long after the band's chart run ended, The Foundations' biggest songs have continued to find new generations of fans. And as Mike Elliott celebrates his 97th birthday, his place in one of the most beloved chapters of 1960s pop remains secure.

This Beloved Country Chart-Topper Was Almost Someone Else’s
Today, it’s nearly impossible to hear "Friends in Low Places" without thinking of Garth Brooks.
But the country superstar, now 64, wasn’t actually the first artist to record the song.
The beloved 1990 hit, released 36 years ago today, was written by Nashville songwriters Earl Bud Lee and Dewayne Blackwell, who eventually brought it to Brooks when he was still a relatively unknown musician. At the time, Brooks had just signed with Capitol Records and was preparing to release his debut album.
He agreed to sing a demo of "Friends in Low Places," and apparently liked the song enough to ask the writers if he could hold onto it for his second album.
That decision turned out to be a pretty important one.
Brooks later recalled that the demo was the last session he ever did as a singer before his career took off. The song stayed in his head for weeks, but he knew it would be a while before he could record it properly because his first album was already in the works. Lee and Blackwell agreed to save it for him.
But Brooks wasn't the only artist interested in the song.
David Wayne Chamberlain recorded and released a version in 1989, before Brooks’ recording became a hit. Mark Chesnutt also recorded the song around the same period, with his version appearing on his 1990 album Too Cold at Home.
Then Brooks got his chance.
He recorded "Friends in Low Places" for his second studio album, No Fences, and the song became the album’s first single. Released in August 1990, it spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard country chart and went on to become one of Brooks’ signature songs.
The song’s success helped make No Fences a major moment in Brooks’ career, but its journey to becoming a country staple had already taken a few unexpected turns.
It may be hard to imagine anyone else singing "Friends in Low Places" now. But before it became a country classic, the song had already belonged to other voices, and Brooks himself first encountered it as a demo singer who was still waiting for his own big break.

Quote of the Day: Big Little Feelings Founders Share the Parenting Lesson That Can Change How Kids See the World
For millions of parents searching for guidance through tantrums, big emotions, sibling struggles, and the countless unpredictable moments of childhood, Big Little Feelings has become a trusted resource. Founded by best friendsDeena Margolin and Kristin Gallant, the online parenting community combines child development research with practical advice designed for real-life families.
The story of Big Little Feelings began with two longtime friends who found themselves becoming mothers and realizing that many parents were seeking the same thing they were. They craved accessible, compassionate, research-backed support. Despite their backgrounds in parenting education and child therapy, they discovered that even experts need help when they are standing in the middle of a toddler meltdown or trying to navigate a difficult parenting moment.
Margolin, a licensed marriage and family therapist, brought clinical experience and expertise in child development, emotional regulation, and the parent-child relationship. She studied under renowned psychologist Dr. Dan Siegel and specializes in the connection between brain development, relationships, and emotional growth. Gallant, a parenting coach and mother, brought her own experience as a mom along with a background focused on maternal and child education, translating expert concepts into advice parents can actually use at home.
Together, Margolin and Gallant created Big Little Feelings as the resource they wished they had as parents: a place where families could find practical tools without judgment. Their relatable approach, which blends neuroscience, therapy concepts, and the realities of everyday parenting, quickly resonated with parents around the world. Their community has grown into a widely recognized parenting platform, with celebrity parents among their followers, including as noted on Today, Eva Mendes, Blake Lively, and Amy Schumer.
At the heart of their work is the belief that parenting is not about being perfect. Instead, it is about connection, repair, and modeling the emotional skills we hope our children will develop.
Quote of the Day by Big Little Feelings“If you want your kid to be respectful, go out in the world and let them see you treat people with respect. If you want them to be kind when you’re behind somebody who’s really annoying in a traffic jam, you’re going to have to dig deep and be kind about this person.”
Kristin Gallant’s quote which she said in a Paradeinterview highlights one of the most powerful ideas in parenting: children learn less from lectures and more from what they observe. While parents often worry about finding the perfect words to teach their children important lessons, Gallant reminds us that children are constantly watching how the adults around them behave.
A child learns kindness by seeing kindness. They learn respect by experiencing respect. They learn how to handle frustration by watching the people they trust navigate difficult moments. Parenting, according to Gallant, is not only about teaching children how to act. It is also about showing them what those qualities look like in everyday life.
The message is not that parents must never make mistakes. In fact, Big Little Feelings often emphasizes the importance of repair. They stress the merits of acknowledging when we have fallen short, apologizing, and reconnecting. Those moments also become lessons for children about accountability, compassion, and emotional growth.
Deeper Meaning of Big Little Feelings QuoteThe deeper meaning behind Gallant’s words is that parenting is a relationship built through thousands of small moments. A child’s understanding of the world develops through everyday interactions: how a parent speaks to a stranger, responds to stress, handles disappointment, or treats themselves when things do not go as planned.
For generations, many parenting approaches focused on getting children to behave a certain way. Big Little Feelings takes a different approach, emphasizing that children are whole people with emotions that deserve to be understood. When parents model empathy and emotional awareness, they help children develop those same skills.
Gallant and Margolin’s work reflects a larger shift in parenting toward connection over control. Instead of asking only, “How do I make my child stop doing this?” parents are encouraged to ask, “What is my child communicating, and how can I respond with understanding?”
Ultimately, the lesson behind this Big Little Feelings quote is that the most meaningful lessons we give our children often come not from what we say, but from who we are in front of them. Every interaction is an opportunity to show children what kindness, patience, respect, and love look like. As Gallant also said in the interview, "The best way that your kid is going to learn to be a human actually isn’t saying the exact right thing[…] but first, what you need to do is do it yourself."
Big Little Feelings reminds parents, changing the way we raise children happens one small moment at a time. And those moments can create a ripple effect that lasts for generations.

Walmart’s Beautiful $21 Birthstone Necklace Brings the Toi Et Moi Trend to Your Collection for 76% Less
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Jewelry trends come and go, but certain styles stick around because they feel personal. One of the biggest examples right now is toi et moi necklaces, a romantic design that translates from French to “you and me.” Traditionally, the style features two stones placed side by side to represent two people, making it a favorite for gifting. The catch? They can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
If you love the look but not the price tag, Walmart has a much more affordable alternative. The JeenMata Cubic Zirconia Two-Stone Birthstone Necklace is currently marked down 76%, dropping from $89 to just $21. One stone features a birthstone of your choosing, and the second is a clear accent stone, capturing the trending look for less.
JeenMata Cubic Zirconia Two-Stone Birthstone Necklace, $21 (was $89) at Walmart Shop at WalmartThe pendant pairs two distinctly different gemstone cuts side by side, creating an intentionally asymmetrical silhouette that's far more eye-catching than a traditional solitaire. One stone is a crisp rectangular emerald cut that showcases bold, mirror-like facets and saturated color, while the other is a brilliant trillion-cut cubic zirconia with softly rounded edges that catches light from every angle.
The stones meet horizontally at the center, creating a balanced composition that highlights both gemstones. Four polished prongs secure each stone while allowing plenty of light to pass through, maximizing brilliance and emphasizing the clean geometry of the cuts. The pendant is suspended from a delicate cable chain that threads directly through discreet side loops, giving the necklace a seamless, floating appearance at the neckline.
Crafted from polished brass with an 18-karat white gold-plated finish, the setting provides a bright, silvery backdrop that lets each birthstone color take center stage. Each pendant features a 4.75-carat total gemstone weight and uses clear-to-the-eye cubic zirconia to deliver exceptional sparkle without the hefty price tag.
While shown here in a vibrant peridot-inspired August green, the necklace is also available in all 12 birthstone colors, including deep garnet red for January, rich amethyst purple for February, icy aquamarine blue for March, brilliant white for April, emerald green for May, soft lavender for June, ruby-inspired crimson for July, sapphire blue for September, blush pink for October, golden topaz-inspired yellow for November, and bright blue zircon-inspired December. Elegant enough to wear alone yet simple enough to layer with other chains, it's a meaningful everyday piece that works just as well as a birthday gift, anniversary present, or personal reminder of someone special.

Iconic '90s Singer Songwriter, Once Nominated for an Oscar, Would Have Been 57 Today
Gentle, melancholic, and human are all words I would use to describe the wonderful music of Elliott Smith, who would have celebrated his 57th birthday today. The beloved singer/songwriter carved a path for himself in the '90s and early 2000s as a space for the sad and downtrodden, who found solace in the wonderful coldness of his lyrics and sound.
Most people are familiar with Smith's work through the '90s classic Good Will Hunting, which featured Smith's music in a big way and even included an original song written by him for the film entitled "Miss Misery," which earned him an Oscar nomination.
The film turned him into a much bigger commercial success, and brought his music to millions of people around the world. The film's emotional themes served as a great way to introduce the world to the songwriting that Smith did so well.
Much of Smith's legacy is tinged by the tragic circumstances of his shocking death, which has been largely considered a suicide, with some select groups of people believing he was murdered. Smith was a complicated man who suffered from depression as well as addiction.
On October 21st, 2003 Smith's girlfriendJennifer Chiba had locked herself in the bathroom after an argument with the singer. While inside, she allegedly heard a scream, and walked out to find Smith with a knife embedded in his chest. He would unfortunately pass away at the hospital. A note was found on a sticky note that said "I'm so sorry, love, Elliott. God forgive me."
Smith's life shouldn't be defined by his death however, as he gave a great amount of beauty to the world while he was here. His music is some of the most unique and emotional ever recorded, with songs that have touched fans for years. On his birthday, we should remember the wonderful music that captured the hearts of so many around the world.
Happy Birthday, Elliott Smith.
1996 Farewell Concert Honored the Punk Rock Icons Who Changed Music Without a No. 1 Hit
The Ramones played their final concert on August 6, 1996, marking the last performance of a band that had spent more than two decades influencing the sound and attitude of rock music. Held at the Palace in Los Angeles, the farewell show was more than just the final concert from one of punk rock's most influential bands—it was a celebration of a group whose impact and legacy far exceeded its commercial success.
Despite never earning a No. 1 hit, The Ramones became one of the most important and influential bands in music history, inspiring generations of musicians and helping define the punk rock movement that later paved the way for grunge and alternative rock.

Among those who joined The Ramones onstage were Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, two of the defining alternative rock artists of the 1990s.
Their appearances were a fitting tribute to a band that had helped pave the way for countless punk and alternative acts. The Ramones may never have dominated the charts, but they are widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in rock history, with Rolling Stone naming them among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Known for their short, fast, energetic songs built on attitude, melody, and authenticity, The Ramones created a blueprint that would influence generations of punk, alternative, and mainstream rock artists.
Why The Ramones Decided to Call It QuitsBy 1995, The Ramones had experienced years of internal tension and exhaustion. Formed in Queens, New York, in 1974, the band spent more than 20 years touring, recording, and maintaining a relentless performance schedule.
Creative disagreements, personal conflicts, and the constant pressure of touring strained relationships within the band. The departure of founding bassist Dee Dee Ramone in 1989 had already changed the group's dynamic, while the relationship between founding members Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone had become increasingly fractured. By the mid-1990s, following the release of their final studio album, ¡Adiós Amigos!, the members decided it was time to bring The Ramones to an end.

♬ som original - Zack RamoneThe Ramones' career remains one of the greatest examples that influence and legacy don't always translate into commercial success or chart dominance. The band never had a No. 1 hit, yet they are revered by generations of rock's biggest names, from The Clash's Joe Strummerto Green Day's BillieJoe Armstrong.
Their debut album, Ramones, released in 1976, introduced some of their most iconic songs, including "Blitzkrieg Bop," "I Wanna Be Sedated," and "Rockaway Beach." Each became a punk anthem whose legacy far outlasted its chart performance.
Appreciation for the band has only grown with time. In 2002, The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2011 they received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Ramones never achieved a No. 1 hit, but they became something even more enduring: a band revered by fellow musicians whose influence can still be heard in generations of rock artists that followed.
The Legacy of The Ramones Lives OnThe band's 1996 farewell concert wasn't just the end of The Ramones' career—it was the closing act of a group that proved cultural impact can't always be measured by sales, awards, or chart positions. More than 30 years after their final performance, The Ramones' music continues to inspire new generations of fans and musicians, cementing a legacy that has only grown stronger with time.
