1965 Rock Hit The Byrds Turned Into One of the 'Greatest Songs of All Time'

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:20am

In 1965, theByrds took Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” and gave it a completely different feel, turning the acoustic song into a folk-rock hit. Their debut single climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, just a month after Dylan’s original appeared on Bringing It All Back Home.

The success of the Byrds’ version helped introduce folk rock to a much wider audience. It also caught Dylan’s attention, showing him how his songwriting could take on a new energy with electric guitars and a full-band arrangement.

Dylan first recorded “Mr. Tambourine Man” during sessions for his 1964 album Another Side of Bob Dylan. That early version featured Ramblin’ Jack Elliott on backing vocals, but Dylan chose not to release it at the time. He eventually returned to the song and included his own version on Bringing It All Back Home.

Around that period, Byrds manager Jim Dickson introduced the band to Dylan’s recording, hoping they would consider covering it. According to Songfacts, most of the group wasn’t interested. At first, the song didn’t seem like an obvious fit for the Byrds, and few of them imagined it would become their breakthrough record.

Roger McGuinn heard a different possibility in the song. The guitarist and vocalist recognized the song’s potential and reworked the arrangement, changing the rhythm and trimming some of Dylan’s lyrics to better fit the Byrds’ sound.

When Dylan visited the studio and heard the Byrds recording his track, he was reportedly amazed by their interpretation. He exclaimed, “Man, you could dance to this!” The band had transformed his acoustic folk song into something brighter and more electric, showing Dylan another direction his own music could take.

The success of “Mr. Tambourine Man” also led to years of discussion about what the song actually meant.

Some listeners have interpreted it as a drug reference, viewing the tambourine man as a dealer and the “song” as a metaphor for a substance. Dylan, however, rejected that idea and said the inspiration came from guitarist Bruce Langhorne.

Langhorne’s work with Dylan during the early ’60s left an impression, especially the enormous tambourine he brought into the studio.

In the liner notes for Biograph, Dylan recalled, “He had this gigantic tambourine. It was, like, really big. It was as big as a wagon wheel. He was playing, and this image of him playing just stuck in my mind.”

He later added, “Drugs never played a part in that song … drugs were never that big a thing with me. I could take ‘em or leave ‘em. Never hung me up.”

Decades after reaching No. 1, the Byrds’ “Mr. Tambourine Man” continues to be recognized for its influence. The recording has appeared on major rankings, including Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” and helped shape the folk-rock movement.

The two versions have also fueled a long-running debate among listeners. Dylan’s original highlights his poetic storytelling, while the Byrds’ version gives the song new energy.

That debate continues online as well. One Reddit user started a discussion comparing the two recordings, with one commenter writing, “The Byrds’ ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ is wayyyyyy better than Bob Dylan’s.”

Others defended Dylan’s legacy. “Consider this...besides the Beatles, Dylan is the most covered artist. One man. One helluva poet,” another user wrote.

A third argued that the Byrds’ polished approach changed the song’s character. “It's a song about being sleepy, drunk and lost in life. The Byrds version is way too polished. They don't sound like the singer in the song. It's pretty, but it's off.”

Disney Fans Made These Videos for Years: Now TikTok Makes It Official

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:19am

For years, Disney fandom has been the home of some wild stuff: homemade Elsa edits, lip-synced Star Wars clips, Marvel supercuts stitched together, and a whole lot more. Well, now that devotion has an official home.

The Walt Disney Company andTikTokannounced a global content-sharing deal on Wednesday that lets TikTok creators build short-form videos using characters and scenes from Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel, and FX. The companies described it as a first-of-its-kind agreement, and the resulting videos will appear both on TikTok and inside Verts, the vertical video feed on Disney+.

"The best storytellers are fans first," said Asad Ayaz, Disney's chief marketing and brand officer, in the announcement. "Today, fans are celebrating our stories in entirely new ways." Dawn Yang, TikTok's global head of entertainment, said creators "extend the life of films and shows into conversations that fans discover and share."

The pilot rolls out in the United States in the coming months before expanding to other markets. Participating creators opt in to a program that gives them access to hundreds of Disney films and series, along with placement on Disney+ through a tiered Disney Creator Ambassador Program. Neither company disclosed financial terms, and the program does not publicly promise creators payment.

It marks the first time TikTok videos will stream on a platform other than TikTok itself, a notable shift for the app.

The announcement arrived during Disney's fiscal third-quarter earnings, which beat Wall Street expectations. Adjusted earnings came in at $2.06 per share, up from $1.61 a year earlier, on revenue of $25.25 billion. The quarter was lifted by theme parks, streaming profits and the box office run of "Toy Story 5," which crossed $1 billion worldwide.

It also marked the first full quarter for chief executive Josh D'Amaro, who took over from Bob Iger in March. On a call with analysts, D'Amaro said short-form video "creates a more complete experience" on Disney+, aimed at keeping subscribers watching longer and discovering more.

Disney+ reports roughly 130 million subscribers and ranked as the third-most-watched U.S. streaming platform in May, capturing about 5% of watch time, according to Nielsen data. A steady stream of fan-made content gives the app something its own trailers cannot: a feed that refreshes constantly, built by the people most invested in the material.

The partnership follows Disney's short-lived licensing deal with OpenAI for AI-generated video.

‘Parent Trap’ Icon Hayley Mills’ New Photo at 80 Reminds Fans Why She’s Still So Beloved

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:13am

The British beauty, who rose to stardom in classic children’s films like The Parent Trap and Pollyanna, carried her success into adulthood with roles in Saved by the Bell and Wild at Heart. With her classic blonde hair and beautiful smile, there’s no mistaking the English rose for the one-time Disney film icon. And in a new photo from the British tour of Oh Mary!, Mills makes it clear that she's getting more stunning with age.

Mills Has a Famous Sister, Juliet Mills

Hayley's sister, Juliet Mills, was already a successful actress when she hit daytime TV on Passions, but the British beauty officially became a pop culture icon. She played the lead role on the sitcomNanny and the Professor in the ’70s, and had a highly successful theater career. But come 1999, she starred in Passions as Tabitha Lenox, a witch whose doll, Timmy, comes to life in a New England town filled with supernatural elements. The show ran until 2007 on NBC, before heading to DirecTV.

View this post on Instagram Mills Opened Up About Life After Child Stardom

While things are great for Mills these days, she struggled tremendously in the period following her significant fame as a child actor.

“It did seem to kind of slow my development into being an adult,” she shared in a Los Angeles Times article in 2021. “Actors are so much braver today. You look at Daniel Radcliffe from ‘Harry Potter,’ how brave he’s been with his career. He’s really gone out on a limb, and I admire that so much.”

She developed bulimia and became a people pleaser, desperately trying to satisfy the adults around her. A she got into her twenties, she discovered that much of the money she earned as a child star had disappeared, subjected to a 91% tax rate that was created to bolster England’s finances after the war.

Despite that setback, Mills built her acting resume back up. She starred on stage and in the cult favorite TV show Good Morning Miss Bliss, which went on to become Saved by the Bell. She also went on to have two sons and is now a grandmother.

This 1990s Backyard Game Still Teaches Kids Teamwork Better Than Most Apps

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:13am

There are many basic things kids need to learn, such as addition and kindness. Another thing—one that’s perhaps a bit more tricky—is teamwork. Kids need to learn how to work with others, support others and be a part of a team. This can benefit them in various situations and at multiple times, whether that’s when they're playing sports or doing a group project, for example.

As with many things nowadays, the push for technology and teaching through apps and videos is huge. If you haven’t noticed this, just check out all of the free learning apps on the App Store, or peruse the number of fun websites that exist to waste time on when you're bored.

But if you’re looking for screen-free games for groups of kids or the best backyard games for children, you might have thought about activities like Kick the Can and Flashlight Tag. (Anyone having nostalgic flashbacks right now?)

According to a psychologist, there’s another backyard game to consider. It teaches teamwork, is played outdoors (hey, fresh air and less screentime!) and is a classic favorite. Ahead, she reveals the key difference between screen-based and physical teamwork, along with what the 1990s backyard game is that teaches teamwork to kids, how to set it up, some helpful rule variations for the game at different age groups and more.

The Ultimate '90s Throwback: Why Capture the Flag Is the Best Teamwork Game

It’s time to bring back Capture the Flag. According to a psychologist, it’s a better teacher of teamwork than most apps, and that makes sense.

Why? Well, consider the objective and how you're supposed to play Capture the Flag: Teams work together to steal the other team’s flag. But let’s get the psychologist’s reasoning.

“Active cooperation, decision-making in real time and developing flexibility of thought all occur when children decide how they will work together,” Dr. Carolina Estevez, PsyD, a psychologist at Soba in New Jersey, tells Parade. “Apps cannot prompt kids to think creatively about their own process.”

She points to research suggesting that the best way to develop socially competent, resilient young people is to provide them with opportunities to engage in active, cooperative play. Passively consuming digital media simply can’t do that, while Capture the Flag is a key example.

Screen-Based vs. Physical Teamwork: What Psychologists Say

When it comes to screen-based teamwork (like certain video games) versus physical, in-person teamwork (like Capture the Flag), the former can help, but it’s missing some major pieces.

“Verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional regulation, physical activity and spontaneous problem-solving are all components of the developmentally effective nature of physically interactive play,” Dr. Estevez explains. “Children who participate in these types of activities learn social competence and develop resiliency in responding to real-world social cues.”

How To Set up Backyard Capture the Flag in 5 Minutes

Another pro of Capture the Flag is that it can be set up quickly. Dr. Estevez shares the following steps:

  • Divide children into two groups.
  • Draw the boundaries of the two territories with cones, towels or rope.
  • Find two of the same thing to act as the “flags,” such as a bandanna or pool noodle, and give one to each territory.
  • Establish a basic “tag” rule.
  • Designate a “jail” area.
  • Clearly define the boundaries for the entire game.

“You do not need much to get started other than some markers and a small object to represent the flag,” Dr. Estevez says.

The Developmental Magic of ‘Unstructured’ Conflict

Kids, like adults, will experience conflict during group activities. They might argue about fairness, rules or strategies. While that may sound negative, it’s actually a good thing. Conflict (especially unstructured conflict) can help a child’s development as they learn conflict resolution and how to navigate tricky situations.

“Since adults are not intervening in every issue, children have the opportunity to resolve issues among themselves through negotiation, compromise, self-regulation and repairing after a conflict,” Dr. Estevez tells Parade. “Every opportunity children have to demonstrate they can successfully resolve future interpersonal challenges creates increased confidence.”

Unstructured play and social skill activities for kids—of which Capture the Flag is both—are beneficial in multiple ways, even (and perhaps especially) in their tendency to invite conflict.

3 Modern Rule Variations To Keep It Fair for All Ages

For some kids, a standard game of Capture the Flag might be “too easy” or “too hard.” Ahead, Dr. Estevez shares some rule variations you can implement (besides just keeping the Capture the Flag rules simple) so kids of all ages can play and learn.

1. Safe zone reset

Consider designating certain areas within the playing field as “safe zones.” Here, younger players can spend up to 15 seconds before returning to the game if they cross into enemy territory.

“This allows younger or new players to remain engaged without losing either excitement or competitive strategy,” Dr. Estevez says.

2. Multiple flags

Instead of one large flag (or bandanna or pool noodle), let each team have three.

“Each team will have to communicate with one another, distribute tasks among players and adjust their overall strategy so that each player has a role and responsibility, and no single player is solely responsible for winning,” Dr. Estevez notes.

3. Rescue challenge

“Jail” doesn’t have to be a “dead zone” or area of defeat. Instead, non-jailed players can complete a task, such as answering a trivia question or performing five jumping jacks, to help another player "escape."

This is an extra way to challenge and stimulate their mind and body. It also allows players to continue “participating and working with others throughout the remainder of the game,” according to Dr. Estevez.

Games can be just for fun—kids need that—but they can also be made educational or into life lessons, too.

4 Birth Months Unlock Success This August 2026

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:11am

Success means different things to different people. But by definition, success means achieving your goals by getting positive results, often resulting in fame, wealth—or at the very least, a sense of ease in moving towards one’s desires. Being one of the most active months of 2026 due to the arrival of the second eclipse season of 2026, August brings many shifts when it comes to both success and transformation.

One of the highlights of the astrology of August is the once-every-year visit of Venus in the sign of beauty and balance, Libra. Between August 6 and August 26, Venus activates four major planets, injecting the sky with its sweet vibrations. In the middle of the month—between August 7 and August 17, Venus forms a Grand Air Trine with Uranus and Pluto. The intellect gets an injection of energy, giving birth to exciting new ideas and deepening the meaning of the universal law, “your thoughts create your reality.”

Which Birth Months Will Be the Winners This August?July: Jupiter Delivers Optimism And Expansion

The hype is real! If you were born in July, your birth month is currently hosting the planet of abundance and expansion, Jupiter. You may find that this success, which can present itself in many forms, is a byproduct of a newfound sense of optimism. Regardless of the area you’re focusing on in your life right now—career, relationships, or finances—this optimism serves as your fuel. August is definitely a month to strut your stuff, as well as a positive time to connect with others in the spirit of friendship, collaboration, and community. This is particularly true between August 11 and August 24, when Venus harmonizes with Jupiter, adding even more sparkle to your life.

October: Venus Powers Up Your Intellect And Boosts Your Charm

If you’re an October baby, you can look forward to feeling charming, magnetic, and even luxurious! Venus—the planet named after the goddess of love and pleasure—will be sending beams of happiness your way. Both October Libras and Scorpios can find success in all the areas of life Venus rules—money, relationships, and pleasure. For you, success in August of 2026 looks like making more room to enjoy life. Taking time off work without worrying about a loss in productivity or earnings is not only possible—it’s encouraged. Taking more time for yourself this month will make room for you to either naturally or purposely come up with new ideas for your future. This energy will be especially strong between August 7 and August 17, while Venus connects with Uranus and Pluto, stimulating your desire for novelty and emotional depth.

Following your intuition this month may also see you closing a major life chapter two weeks later, at the August 27 Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. Rowan Henchy Embraces Her Nepo Baby Status on Bravo's 'Next Gen NYC'

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 10:04am

Growing up with a celebrity parent is far from easy. Most celebrity kids often follow in their parents’ footsteps, whether it be acting, singing, or directing. Either way, it’s a natural career path, considering they have a certain level of access their parents’ contacts afford them. Still, many will choose to try and carve out their own path without their parents’ help or association, but Rowan Henchy, the eldest daughter of Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, embraces the nepotism of it all.

One of the newest cast members of Bravo’s Next Gen NYC, viewers followed as Rowan effortlessly assimilaited into the friend group of 20-somthings trying to navigate life in the public eye in NYC as celebrity kids (most of whom grew up in front of Bravo cameras). Rowan has her own acting ambitions, having credits in projects such as When Calls the Heart. She is aware of the privilege that comes with being born and bred in the industry.

“I love the term nepo baby. I am obsessed with the term nepo baby. I think it’s genius. I will never shy away from it,” Henchy told TODAY.com.

She also admits creating her own space as an actress is not as easy as people may think. “I do think in the entertainment industry, when you approach someone with a resumé and your name flags that maybe you are a nepo baby, it causes more harm than opportunity,” she says. “Does it does it help in certain situations? Of course. But at the same time, people don’t want to deal with it.”

Her mother was admittedly hesitant about Rowan joining a reality show. When the actress spoke with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on TODAY in May and was asked how she felt about Rowan’s decision, she was honest that it wouldn’t have been her first choice for Rowan.

“Oh, I was sick to my stomach!” Shields said at the time. Despite such, she advised Rowan to be “the voice of reason” on the show. Rowan has seemingly followed her mom’s advice, and even has become more of a comedic relief amongst the friend group in the midst of all of the drama.

TV’s ‘Queen of Comedy’ Was Born 115 Years Ago Today—Celebrating Lucille Ball’s Life in Photos

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:59am

Lucille Ball was born 115 years ago today. The future I Love Lucy legend was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Jamestown, New York. Ball died in 1989 at age 77, but left behind an extraordinary legacy that still resonates with fans decades later.

In honor of her birthday milestone, here we take a look at Ball’s life in photos.

Ball was long known as a ”wacky redhead” when she played Lucy Ricardo on I Love Lucy, but in her early career as a model she was a glamorous blonde under the name Diane Belmont.

Ball’s longtime assistant Wanda Clark once told Voices of Oklahoma that Ball was inspired to change her name during a train ride out of her hometown. “Lucy thought that Lucille was kind of dull and Diane sounded more exotic,” she shared. “She was on the train going from Jamestown to the city and saw Belmont, the city, and Belmont Racetracks, and so Diane Belmont she had for a short time.”

Ball went on to work as a Goldwyn girl, wearing a long blonde wig for the 1933 Eddie Cantor film, Roman Scandals. She later became a contract player for RKO Radio Pictures and decided to stand out among the many other blonde starlets by changing her hair color to raven red.

Ball met her future husband Desi Arnaz on the set of the 1940 movie Too Many Girls. They married just six weeks later.

"Eloping with Desi was the most daring thing I ever did in my life," Ball said in  Warren G. Harris' biography, Lucy & Desi: The Legendary Love Story of Television's Most Famous Couple, per People. “I knew I shouldn't have married him, but that was one of the biggest attractions. My friends gave the marriage six months. I gave it six weeks."

By the time Ball and Arnaz began their CBSsitcom in 1951, she was well known as a redhead. In a quote posted by The Television Academy,  Ball’s longtime hairdresser Irma Kusely clarified that the hair color wasn’t actually red.

“I call it apricot, but a lot of people think of it as red,” Kusely said. “It’s not red at all.  It’s a golden apricot color. We used regular hair dye when I did her own hair. We then used, as a balance, a henna rinse, which she was famous for. She had a safe of it in my garage … When we did a show in Las Vegas, she met a very wealthy sheik… and he would send her the henna. She moved a box of henna, which was in my garage but in the safe. There was a lot of it left when she left this world, but I had to give it to the estate.”

During her run on I Love Lucy, Ball’s pregnancy with her son, Desi Jr., made headlines. In a rare move for that era, her pregnancy was written into the show. Ball gave birth to her real baby boy on the same day that her TV character gave birth to her son, Little Ricky. The Arnazes also had a daughter, Lucie, who was born in July 1951, just three months before I Love Lucy premiered.

Ball went on to star in the CBS sitcoms The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, and Here’s Lucy, where she continued to show her gift for physical comedy. Behind the scenes, she was a powerful executive for Desilu Productions.

After her marriage to Arnaz ended in 1960, Ball bought his share of ownership of the production company, making her the first woman to own a major studio, according to the  National Women’s History Museum.

She wed comedian Gary Morton in November 1961 and was with him for 28 years, until her death.

Ball never lost her love for acting. Her final series, Life With Lucy, aired in 1986 for just 13 episodes, marking a rare miss for the comedy legend.

During an appearance on The Late Show With Joan Rivers, Ball revealed that she didn’t expect to “get chastised” for returning to TV after two decades away.

“I can take critique about the show, I’ve done that for years, but to be critiqued for coming back at all, that threw me,” she admitted. “I cried, my God, I cried.  …I didn’t know that I could be that frightened and hurt.”

Decades later, Lucille Ball is remembered as one of the most beloved stars in entertainment history. Her unforgettable humor and timeless charm left a lasting legacy for generations of fans—and these photos capture just a glimpse of the amazing life of the legend who changed comedy forever.

Registered Dietitians Are Begging People To Do This One Thing To Prevent Bone Loss

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:50am

The term “bone loss” is a scary one. It starts pretty early, too, around age 35. Wild, right? Needless to say, bone health (as random as it may seem) needs to be addressed ASAP.

If you’re up to date on bone health tips, you might have read about the importance of drinking high-calcium drinks (spoiler alert: it’s not just milk!), for example. And it's actually super interesting how much basic habits can help with bone health. One woman was diagnosed with osteoporosis, a disease in which bones become weak and brittle, and she reversed it naturally. She increased her bone density with a variety of bone-healthy steps, such as resistance training, wearing weighted vests, focused nutrition, adequate sleep, support from loved ones, medical attention and stress-reduction activities.

While proactively and reactively addressing bone health is definitely important for older adults, it’s also important not to wait or assume nothing’s wrong. “One of the largest errors that occurs due to delaying a healthy bone habit is that we do not start focusing on our bones until it’s too late in life,” says Dr. Kezia Joy, MD, RDN, a medical advisor with Welzo. “Most often, bone loss has no symptoms, which means that there are no warning signs to indicate when it’s happening…This can lead to fractures.”

So, what do she and other registered dietitians suggest? Perhaps surprisingly, their shared recommendation isn’t directly about food (though they add some that are). Ahead, registered dietitians share the main thing that prevents bone loss and other habits they urge you to implement.

The #1 Thing That Helps Prevent Bone Loss, According To Registered Dietitians

Parade asked dietitians to share what helps prevent bone loss, and they all said one thing: strength training.

“Strength training is essential for bone health,” says Olivia Hamilton, MS, RD, LDN, a dietitian at Factor 75. “Strength training throughout the whole life span, especially as we age, is the closest thing to the fountain of youth I have seen.” She encourages getting a personalized exercise plan from a certified personal trainer or physical therapist.

Dietitian Avery Zenker, MAN, RD, explains why. “Bones need enough stimulus from exercise for growth and maintenance, which includes strength exercises and high-impact activities,” she says. “Weight-bearing exercise is one of the best ways to preserve bone mass long-term.”

Dr. Joy and Zenker agree that two to three days of strength training a week is enough. Climbing stairs is a weight-bearing activity that Dr. Joy suggests, explaining it stimulates cells that produce and maintain bone density. Walking and Pilates are also great, but not enough, according to Zenker.

One dietitian specifically recommends heavy weights and has had personal success.

“Lifting heavy weights is the most underutilized tool to prevent bone loss, and I cannot talk about it enough,” says Ashley Kitchens, MPH, RD, a plant-based registered dietitian and owner of Plant Centered Nutrition. “As a CrossFit athlete in my 40s and based on a recent DEXA scan, lifting heavy has kept my bone mass significantly above average.”

4 Other Dietitian-Approved Ways To Prevent Bone Loss

While they all agree on strength training, RDs share a few more key tips as well.

1. Get your vitamin D levels tested

Many nutrients are vital for bone health—which we’ll discuss more below—but vitamin D is certainly a big one to note. “Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, and it’s one of the most common nutrient inadequacies worldwide,” Zenker says. “A common mistake people make is assuming their vitamin D status is adequate because they take vitamin D supplements or regularly get sunshine.” She urges individuals to get their vitamin D levels tested.

2. Get enough of various nutrients (not just calcium and vitamin D)

When you think of improving bone health, you probably think about calcium-rich foods (and, at least now, vitamin D-rich foods). Those are important but far from everything. Additionally, Hamilton urges people to get enough magnesium and vitamin K, saying they're also “the heavy-hitters for bone health.”

Kitchens agrees about vitamin K2 and explains why. “Most of us know that calcium is important for bone health, but vitamin K2 actually directs calcium into the bones instead of letting it deposit in your arteries and soft tissue,” she says. “Without adequate K2, taking calcium supplements may do less good than you think.” Foods rich in vitamin K2 include nattō, chicken breasts, sauerkraut and kefir.

On the note of nutrition-related surprises, Zenker suggests eating prunes. “One study found that eating five to six prunes daily helped preserve bone mineral density in post-menopausal women,” she says. “Prunes aren’t a meaningful source of calcium or vitamin D, but they contain polyphenols and antioxidants that are believed to contribute to their bone-supporting benefits.”

For Kitchens, the one food to add is soy, whether it’s in the form of tofu, tempeh or edamame. She points to a study that found for Asian women, a soy-rich diet is linked to lower rates of bone fracture. “Avoiding or fearing soy is not supported by evidence, and avoiding it means you’re missing out on a food that’s protective for your bones,” she adds.

3. Eat enough protein and calories

Getting enough protein and calories is also crucial for bone health because they're crucial for muscle health.

“Maintaining lean muscle mass directly impacts bone density,” Hamilton explains. “It sounds a bit scary, but our bones react to the mechanical stress by building up stronger over time. This process can only happen if we consume adequate protein and calories.”

She encourages having a quality protein source at every meal or snack. That might include Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, tuna packets or hard-boiled eggs.

“When it comes to preventing bone loss, I am consistently begging people to shift their focus from trying to be the smallest version of themselves to the strongest version of themselves,” Hamilton adds.

Crash dieting and intense restriction—especially in women, people ages 18 to 30, and during menopause—can lead to bone loss later in life and increase your risk for osteoporosis.

4. Food-first nutrition

Supplements and bottled vitamins are awesome in their convenience, but they aren’t your best first choice. Hamilton encourages getting nutrients from food first, if at all possible, then supplementing if needed. Examples of foods rich in those nutrients include milk, yogurt, fatty fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, kale, spinach and pork.

Feeling overwhelmed by all the options? She also recommends picking a couple of go-tos to keep it simple. For example, you might meal-prep spinach-cheddar egg bites for breakfasts and homemade nut-and-seed granola over Greek yogurt for snacks.

In reality, small changes matter. “Combining these small daily actions into one larger action will promote a favorable environment for bone health throughout adulthood,” Dr. Joy concludes.

Ariana Grande Defends Controversial New 'Petal' Music Video: 'I Love This Video with My Entire Heart'

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:47am

Ariana Grande is once again earning equal parts praise and public scrutiny for her new work on the music video "Petal," a fascinating project that coincides with the release of her latest R&B album of the same name.

While many fans have applauded the music video for its originality, others have expressed concern over Grande's recent physical appearance, including her startling weight loss.

Though fans and critics shared their discomfort over Grande's appearance, the 33-year-old singer defended her work on "Petal," complimenting the music video on a recent Instagram post.

In said post, Grande shared several behind-the-scenes photos of herself and her fellow performers on set.

“i love this video with my entire heart,” Grande captioned the post. “[I] must express my deepest, endless gratitude to my brilliant collaborators and friends who have brought this song of mine to life with me and who helped tell this story … thank you to everyone who gave their brilliance, care and time.”

While many fans reached out expressing their concern for the star's health, Grande and her representatives revealed that the singer will be taking a "step back" from public appearances for the time being.

A couple of days later, her rep told People that the Victorious alum was planning to take “a step back from visibility” after her Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes in early September.

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” a representative for Grande told People magazine.

Similarly, during a recent performance in Chicago, the 33-year-old Grande herself explained her decision to temporarily step away from the limelight to better focus on her personal well-being.

“It’s a plan that I had quietly made a long time ago, and it’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place," Grande told fans at Chicago's United Center. "Multiple things can be true at the same time. Boundaries can need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes.”

McDonald's Is Adding Name-Brand Energy Drink to Its Menu for the First Time Ever

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:47am

Sometimes coffee just doesn't cut it.

Red Bull, even with just 80 mg of caffeine per standard can, has become a go-to pick-me-up for those hesitant to dive headfirst into heavier hitters like Monster and Celsius.

Taking a page out of Sonic's playbook, McDonald's is set to offer Red Bull for the first time in its 86-year history.

The Golden Arches have long been a morning staple thanks to their famous breakfast sandwiches, but they may soon see more caffeine-craving patrons stopping by throughout the day — not just for a coffee run.

Like Sonic, McDonald's will be adding their own twist with a caffeine concoction, launching its Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer.

According to All Recipes, some locations are already serving the new beverage, while others will have to wait for the official launch on August 17.

The Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer is a fizzy fusion of Red Bull's signature flavor with sweet blue raspberry and tropical dragonfruit, creating a fruity, candy-like drink that's refreshing and easy to sip.

For anyone not in the mood for coffee, it's the perfect alternative as it will only have 80 mg of caffeine, equivalent to a cuppa joe — if anyone still says that...

Like grabbing Red Bull from a convenience store cooler, you can select a zero-sugar option as well.

There's no official word if stateside stores will be offering more flavors, but Australia's menu added a Red Bull Zero Peach Boost Energizer too.

McDonald's is also growing its sandwich lineup, adding the Bacon Caesar McCrispy Sandwich, Caesar Snack Wrap, and Honey Brown Butter Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit to menus this year.

Robert Pattinson’s 'To Catch a Predator' Trailer Drops — and Fans Are Obsessed With One Infamous Line

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:45am

A24 has released the latest trailer for Primetime,  an upcoming psychological crime thriller starring Robert Pattinson as television journalist Chris Hansen. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the film dramatizes the origins and behind-the-scenes culture of NBC's controversial To Catch a Predator segments from the mid-2000s.  The new trailer showcases Pattinson recreating Hansen's cadence and confrontation style, using the host’s famous catchphrases during sting-house encounters. Following the trailer’s release across major digital platforms, online audiences quickly ran to the comment sections to praise Pattinson's physical and vocal transformation.

YouTube viewers focused heavily on Pattinson’s delivery of Hansen's signature lines. "He nailed that 'whynchu have a seat right there' lmao," wrote one commenter, referencing the host's standard greeting to sting subjects. Other fans claimed they can't wait for the upcoming film, with another noting, "Movies like this don’t come around often, I’d watch it again and again."

Pattinson's career trajectory and reputation for intense character shifts were also part of the discussion. Viewers pointed to his recent filmography, which includes blockbuster and independent projects. "The way Pattinson completely changes in every role is just remarkable. I see an Oscar in his future," one comment read. Another user commented on Pattinson's body of work: "Robert Pattinson is gradually becoming one of my favorite actors ever, every time I see him in a movie, it just makes me like him more and more: first The Batman, Mickey 17, The Drama,The Odyssey, he'll most likely be amazing in this too."  Longtime followers of the original news magazine series pointed to iconic moments from the 2000s broadcasts that became early internet memes. "Man I hope they included the 'it’s a little bit too late for that dawg' encounter," posted one YouTube user, remembering a phrase uttered by a suspect during a notable 2006 episode.

To Catch a Predator originally aired as a hidden-camera sting series produced by Dateline NBC starting in 2004. Working alongside local law enforcement agencies and online watchdog groups, the program dispatched decoys to lure targets to designated sting locations before Hansen confronted them on camera. The original series generated massive ratings alongside ethical debates regarding television journalism practices and entrapment concerns.

Primetime also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers. A24 will premiere the film in competition at the Venice International Film Festival before releasing it in theaters on Sept. 25.

1979 Rock Song, Released Before a Band’s Split, Is Still a Generational Hit 47 Years Later

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:45am

Before the 1980s, Led Zeppelin released one final album before their split and yielded a fan-favorite track, "Fool in the Rain," a hopeful song amid an upsetting end.

The band became a staple in the rock genre since their start in 1969, but by 1979, they hadn't released an album in three years. Band members were going through rough times between substance abuse and the loss of a son, which led bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jonesto take over a majority of the creation behind In Through the Out Door.

"Fool in the Rain" was recorded in 1978, and after a good listen, fans may notice the title of the track doesn't actually appear in the lyrics. The track itself had a unique sound from the band, as it combined rock elements with samba. Jones and Jimmy Page came up with the track in the Summer of 1978 while watching that year's FIFA World Cup being held in Argentina.

According to UltimateClassicRock, Plant admitted in a 1979 interview that the track was "unusual" for the band and that they likely would never have played it if the situation had been different. He explained there was "always a South American kind of rhythm thing going along. It's not an attempt to beCarlos Santanaor anything like that. It's kind of a little bit diversified and straightforward, you know."

In the book Light and Shade: Conversations with Jimmy Page, Page explains that Jones didn't have much input in song-making with previous albums, but bought a new synthesizer, and "it inspired him to come up with a bunch of things for In Through the Out Door." Jones also started working closely with Robert Plant, which had never happened before.

"Fool in the Rain" was a considerable hit due to growing interest in the album at the time, and landed at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track itself wasn't originally meant to be released as a single until the band relented some months after the album debuted.

"I always thought of the Stones as a pop group who made singles," said Plant in a 2005. "The whole idea of what we did competing with Bobby Goldsboro as they were wasn't where we were at. What we said was there's no point of putting out a single when the album is the statement of the band."

The single and album would end up being Led Zeppelin's last release as a band, but they never expected it to be. According to Page, he and Bonzo were already discussing plans for a hard-driving album after In Through the Door, having not been a fan of Plant and Jones' leadership and thinking it was "a little soft."

Led Zeppelin would disband in 1980 following the death of drummerJohn Bonham from alcoholism. He died after a 12-hour drinking binge at Page's house that led to choking in his sleep from pulmonary asphyxiation. Instead of replacing Bonham and continuing under a new name, the band decided to split out of respect for their friend.

OMG! Kylie Kelce Just Confirmed a Major Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Wedding Detail

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:41am

Kylie Kelce recently opened up about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's highly anticipated wedding, sharing a sweet behind-the-scenes detail that had remained private until now. While plenty of memorable moments from the celebration have made headlines, Kylie revealed that her family had a special role in the big day.

On the Aug. 6 episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kylie explained that her four daughters—Wyatt, Elliotte, Bennett, and Finnley—served as flower girls—a detail that also helped explain why her husband, Jason Kelce, became so emotional during his brother's milestone moment.

"Obviously, my husband cried during our wedding. He did," she said on the episode. "I think that goes without being said because he’s cried a couple other places because he feels his emotions, okay?"

"He cried at his brother’s wedding for many reasons. It was touching," Kylie continued. "It was very loving to see all of the things that were happening, but take this into consideration—because no one’s thinking about this—think about getting to watch your four daughters be flower girls. Okay? That’s all the information you get."

Kylie and Jason have been very respectful of the newlyweds' desire to keep their wedding ceremony ultra-private. In fact, Kylie has mentioned the wedding on her podcast before, but has been very careful about what she shared.

"I would like to say congratulations to Tay and Trav. It was absolutely magical," she said on the July 23 episode. "I'm so happy for them, [and I] love them so, so dearly … [the wedding] was only making it official because Taylor’s been family now for quite some time."

Taylor and Travis tied the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3.

Dwayne Johnson's Daughter Reacts to His Emotional New Song 'Your Dad' from Moana Album

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:30am

Of all the jobs Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has, being a girl dad is his most prized work. He expresses his appreciation for fatherhood and love for his three daughters in a new song.

The former wrestling champion is one of the executive producers of Moana: Voices Across the Ocean; Disney’s new companion album, which features new music inspired by the recently released live-action film, Moana, in which he stars as Maui. He co-wrote a deeply intimate track, “Your Dad,” alongside Iam Tongi. In an exclusive with PEOPLE, Johnson opens up about the song and its inspiration: “The things that have taught me the most about being a man are my daughters.”

Johnson has three daughters: Simone, 24, whom he shares with ex-wife Dany Garcia, and Jasmine, 10, and Tiana, 8, whom he shares with Lauren Hashian, his wife since 2019. “Between my wife, my job, my experiences around the world with people, the things that have taught me the most about being a man are my daughters,” Johnson explained.

“There’s a line in the song that says, ‘A deeper love that I never knew. You took my heart, and you pulled it through.’ Our 10-year-old asked me the other night, when I was putting her to bed, ‘What does that mean?’”

Johnson had a conversation with his daughter Jasmine, telling her, “‘Sometimes life can be challenging, and you have challenges in life. You don’t feel it now — maybe you do a little bit being 10 — but one day you’ll feel it. You’ll just feel the pressure of life.’”

While he says his daughter prefers not to have those types of discussions, he remembers saying to her, “‘Without you even knowing, you took my heart, and you pulled me through just by being who you are. So I want to empower you with that. That’s what that line means.’”

As for his daughter’s reaction, Johnson recalls, “She was like, ‘Wow,’” he said.

Moana: Voices Across the Ocean is currently available for purchase and download. Disney’s live-action Moana, starring Johnson and Catherine Lagaʻaia, is still in theaters.

Minnie Driver ‘Grateful To Be Alive’ After Serious Car Accident Leaves Her in a Neck Brace

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:28am

Minnie Driver is "grateful to be alive" after a serious car accident in France.

The beloved British actress, 56, who left her mark on American cinema starting in the ’90s with parts in films like Circle of Friends and Grosse Pointe Blank, earned tremendous acclaim for her role as Skylar in 1997’s iconic film Good Will Hunting, alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. More recently, she starred in the ABCsitcomSpeechless, playing the mother of a child with cerebral palsy, and completed a five-episode run on the Netflix hit Emily in Paris. But it wasn't her career that made headlines on Thursday.

In a new Instagram post, Driver wore a neck brace as she lay in bed with her dog as she recovered from a horrific car accident that left her with a sprained neck.

"Update is that I am actually back in London. I'm sorry about the filter I've put on this, but honestly, without it, I just look appalling. Even the dog wouldn't look at me," Driver said. "I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago, with my friend Ben, and we somehow walked out of it. Well, we didn't walk out of it; we crawled out of it, but we did get out of it alive."

In the caption, Driver shared how the terrifying accident went down, and praised the KIA EV2 she was riding in for its 360-degree airbags.

"Shout out to the van driver who stopped and helped us before the ambulances arrived. Special mention to the car who slowed down took in the scene and drove off without stopping. I guess this is the Dao of the world, the light and the dark. My brain keeps replaying the crash which is very hard but seems to be a necessary part of processing. Weeping too, feels good and helpful. Thank you to my friends, my family, all the people at work and especially my friend Ben and his family. I love you," she wrote.

Driver Is More Than a Pretty Face

Driver may be an absolute beauty, but she’s got the brains to back it up. She recently took to social media to call out past tabloid coverage that criticized her looks. In the first throwback photo, the natural-faced actress appeared with minimal makeup and her hair in its natural curls. To the right, another photo showed Driver with full makeup for the red carpet. The headline read “Minnie Driver…From Drab To Fab.”

In the caption, Driver had a few things to say about the rude statements.

“And we wonder why the labels that are stuck on women become internally weaponised and pinball around our heads, doing their worst. Or at least, women wonder. F— labels. Plain Janes and Hot Girls are just women. There was absolutely no recourse pre-social media, no way of adding your voice to those who described you with such authority. I’m sorry I believed them at the time, I’m so glad it was always a lie. Chin up Ladies ♥️ #selflove #drab #fab #bollock,” she captioned the post.

Driver also shared a video of herself standing up to the headlines, Parade previously reported.

“I can’t remember what rag that was in, but yeah, that was being a young woman in the 90s. What is the rejoinder to that *****? Is it ‘I’m back to drab?’ Because I think that probably resonates with a lot of women,” she said.

American Girl Just Partnered With One of Country Music’s Biggest Rising Stars

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:15am

The American Girl collection is growing one more, and this time with a rising country music star. Fans of Megan Moroney will soon be able to add an 18-inch American Girl doll to their collection, along with accessories.

The Mattel-owned brand announced the new collection, sharing that the doll will be available to purchase later this year in time for the holidays. However, the accessory collection is already available to purchase, and everything is inspired by the country singer’s tours, which adds a level of her own creativity to the mix.

For each of her tours, Moroney’s outfits come from her own imagination. She shared with USA Todaythat “creativity has always been part of who I am, and I hope this collection inspires girls to be creative, express themselves, and dream big too.” Each of the accessories for the new doll is based on outfits that Moroney wore while on her tours, so fans can recreate the signature looks.

While the doll isn’t available until early December in stores, there is some exciting news. Starting Nov. 22, 2026, it will be possible to buy it exclusively on the Target website, and this is the first time an American Girl doll has ever been available at Target. However, there isn’t as long to wait for the accessories, so you can start your Christmas shopping right now.

Some accessories are already available to buy. Fans can get the mic stand, which replicates one the “Tennessee Orange” singer used on stage, the pink sequined dress that is iconic to her style, and a select number of other items. In this economy, it certainly helps to split up the purchases!

The sequined pink dress even comes with shorts and white cowboy boots with the pink bow. There will be a Gingham-style short romper with silver cowboy boots and a white belt, a pink bag and lip gloss, and a VIP pass, pink sunglasses, and a heart hair clip also available for sale to make your 18-inch doll of the “Am I Okay?” singer feel like a starlet. Along with the mic stand, there’s the iconic iridescent guitar Moroney has used on tour.

This marks the first time Mattel has created an American Doll inspired by a star. Most others have Barbie dolls made in their likeness, so it’s an exciting new collector’s edition.

Hilary Duff Stuns Crowd by Bringing Her Famous Ex Onstage for a Surprise Performance

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 9:15am

Growing up as a millennial had its perks, and music and TV were two of them. Our shows were preppy and zany, and if you were an alternative kid like me, the music was delightfully angsty. Though both existed, the two worlds seldom collided—that was until Hilary Duff was linked to Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.

Their dating history is quite controversial: when they were together in 2004, Duff was just 16, while Madden was 25. They dated for two years and eventually broke up in 2006.

Apparently, the past is in the past: during Duff's recent concert for her "Lucky Me" Tour at Madison Square Garden, she donned a Good Charlotte T-shirt and brought out Madden and his twin brother, Benji Madden, for a duet on Good Charlotte's "The Anthem".

People had a myriad of reactions to the collaboration.

"I will never recover from this. 16-year-old me is collapsed somewhere in a ditch. 36 me is so [redacted] proud," wrote one fan.

"My middle school brain is on fire rn," confessed another.

A few also mentioned that the timing of the performance seemed particularly pointed. Pitchfork recently reported that several independent music magazines—BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine—were gutted with layoffs by parent company Veeps, which the Madden brothers own.

Inside Hilary Duff and Joel Madden's Modern-Day Friendship

Despite the several controversies surrounding the performance, it appears that behind the scenes, the exes are more than amicable.

During a 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Duff detailed how the two had remained close despite their past relationship. It came up after they were spotted together on a group date with their respective spouses, Nicole Richie and Matthew Koma.

"By the way, I have a good relationship with their whole family," she told Andy Cohen, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I think people were [blown away]. We’re neighbors, and we actually hang out all the time. I was just in her driveway honking for her to come drink wine with us the other day."

They also reportedly frequently go on hikes together. And three years since that interview, their friendship seems to be going strong!

You can choose from six different styles, with both domed and non-domed options available in elegant shades of green and white. The version we're highlighting is the light green 8.5-inch jadeite glass cake stand, which brings a subtle pop of vintage-inspired color to any table setting.

Handcrafted from jadeite milk glass, the stand features the signature pale green hue that's made jadeite such a beloved classic. Jadeite milk glass is an opaque, mint-green glassware style that became a staple in American kitchens beginning in the 1930s and remains highly collectible today.

The design is full of charming details. Decorative loops frame the center platter, while the glossy finish enhances its vintage appeal. A sturdy footed base provides stability and creates an elevated presentation that instantly draws attention to whatever you're serving.

While it's perfect for displaying cakes, cupcakes, pies, and cookies, its uses go far beyond dessert. Fill it with fresh fruit, use it to showcase appetizers and hors d'oeuvres, or style it as a centerpiece for a dinner party. Its versatile design makes it easy to incorporate into a wide range of entertaining setups.

The stand also pairs beautifully with other serving pieces if you enjoy layering and mixing tableware. The soft jadeite color works well with both neutral and colorful palettes, making it easy to create a cohesive look regardless of your decorating style.

One shopper said they “highly recommend it for anyone looking to elevate their dessert or party display,” writing, “The delicate ruffled edge gives it a sophisticated, decorative look that really stands out without being overwhelming. One of my favorite things about it is how easily the color complements other décor and accent pieces, making it incredibly versatile for different occasions and themes.”

Another reviewer shared, “This is beautiful, elegant, and a lovely shade of jade green. It is easy to hand wash after use. I used this recently when hosting a birthday dinner party. My guests complimented the cake plate almost more than my from-scratch birthday cake!”
