Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba suffered a medical emergency on a plane, she revealed in a social media video.

On Thursday, April 16, the DWTS personality took to Instagram with an unexpected health update that had fans flooding her with prayers.

DWTS Judge Carrie Ann Inaba Detailed Having a Health Emergency on a Plane

"Yesterday was quite a day," Inaba, 58, began her post. "I was on my way to NY for something I am very passionate about. But had a small 'medical emergency' on the plane."

She explained, "I very suddenly felt quite ill. And while it seemed like food poisoning, I also suddenly broke out into a cold sweat, got dizzy and my arms went numb."

Inaba explained that she typically handles "most of my health things on my own," as she carries a health tool kit and is "prepared for the worst."

However, she admitted that this incident "scared" her.

"While I was locked in the restroom, we were also experiencing turbulence and the flight attendants had been asked to sit in their seats as well," she continued. "I didn't want to have anyone else put themselves at risk... but when my arms went numb, it was time to ask for help."

In the accompanying video, Inaba shared her point of view while riding in an ambulance after the health emergency. She did not share what, exactly, happened.

The DWTS judge has spoken out about living with several autoimmune conditions in the past, including lupus, Sjögren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

“It was debilitating,” Inaba told People of Sjögren's syndrome in 2019. “I was in so much pain, I just had to survive. I had to stay in bed three days a week, and I’m so fortunate because I had the kind of job where I could do that. There were days I could barely make my coffee because I was so exhausted.”

Nathan Dean is set to return to General Hospital as Ethan Lovett on April 17, 2026, the show confirmed. Ahead of his return, the actor opened up about filming his first scenes back, including working with his new on-screen sister.

In an interview with TV Insider’s Stephanie Sloane, Dean discussed his return to the long-running soap and explained his professional name change from Nathan Parsons to Nathan Dean.

Speaking about his first scenes back, Dean shared, “My very first scenes are with Lulu, and there’s a new actress playing her,” he said, referencing Alexa Havins.

Havins recently took over the role of Lulu Spencer, previously played by Emme Rylan and Julie Marie Berman, both of whom Dean previously worked with. Ethan and Lulu are half-siblings through their father, Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary).

Praising his new scene partner, Dean spoke highly of her sharing, “She’s awesome.”

He elaborated on building their on-screen dynamic, adding, “We hadn’t ever had communication, so she was sort of curious about what Ethan and Lulu’s dynamic was, so it was very fun to rekindle that.”

Dean added that revisiting the characters’ history helped ease his return, “It was good for me to rehash it a little bit, because it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, I remember this happened.’ It was a good way to ease back into it,” he said.

Dean originally portrayed Ethan from January 30, 2009 to March 7, 2012. He later returned for several short story arcs, including the show’s 50th anniversary in 2013 and Anthony Geary’s exit in 2015. His most recent appearance came in 2020.

Since stepping away from General Hospital, Dean has appeared in multiple television series including The Originals, True Blood, Rosewood, Once Upon a Time, and most recently Roswell, New Mexico.

For his work on General Hospital, Dean earned a nomination for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2012.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC with episodes streaming weeknights on Hulu.

The singer D4vd, born David Burke, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

"Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas. Burke is being held without bail," the Los Angeles Police Department announced on Thursday, Apr. 16. "The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday for filing consideration."

A source told ABC 7 Los Angeles that the arrest is based on evidence and probable cause that was developed.

On Sept. 8, 2025, Los Angeles police officers were called to a tow yard following reports of a foul odor coming from a Tesla on the property. In the trunk of the vehicle, police found a severely decomposed body placed inside of a bag which was later determined to be 14-year-old Hernandez.

The car was registered to Burke and impounded after being abandoned in the Hollywood Hills area, where neighbors complained of a rotting smell. The case has been treated as a death investigation since Sept. 9.

Hernandez was reported missing in California in 2025 and was last seen in April 2024, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Her cause of death has not been determined.

In September, a spokesman for the singer said that he was “fully cooperating with authorities.” However, in November, NBC Los Angeles reported that Burke was no longer cooperating with law enforcement.

Burke is best known for his collaborations with musicians Kali Uchi, Laufey, and 21 Savage. He also created an anthem for the video game “Fortnite.”

Burke was on tour promoting his debut album Withered when Hernandez's body was found, which was canceled amid the investigation.

Actor Daniel Radcliffe found fame after starring as the titular character in theHarry Potter film franchise, based on the book series by J.K. Rowling.

Over the span of 10 years, Radcliffe played the Hogwarts student in eight films, with the last one, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, premiering in 2011.

During an April 2026 interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, hosted by Josh Horowitz, Radcliffe was asked to rank all the films. He started off the ranking by sharing that he prefers Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) over the first Harry Potter film, 2001's Sorcerer's Stone.

"I would take Chamber of Secrets out of those two 'cause I love the Basilisk," said the actor in reference to the film's giant snake-like monster.

He also said that he likes 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire over Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), which is upsetting to some fans.

"I know everyone wants me to say Azkaban. I know that's how everyone else feels, but I love the stuff I got to do on the fourth movie, it was awesome. So I'll say Goblet of Fire," said Radcliffe during the interview.

He then shared that his favorite Harry Potter film of all time is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, with Goblet of Fire coming in second. In addition, Radcliffe said he wasn't a fan of the sixth film in the fantasy franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, released in 2009.

"Half-Blood Prince is probably the bottom of the bracket for me. And that's my own stuff. That's not the film," clarified Radcliffe.

Radcliffe also shared that he hasn't watched any of the Harry Potter films in quite some time. In addition, he said he would have an easier time viewing the older movies.

"When I was 18, I would cringe watching the earlier films. Now, I think the early films are sweet and now I cringe watching myself when I was 18 or 19. But I assume that those dates will just keep changing as to what I find palatable of my own work," said the British actor, now 36.

Summer memories are some of the best memories of all, particularly anything having to do with the carefree summers of youth. That's what makes Bryan Adams' 1985 hit "Summer of '69" such an enduring classic, over 40 years after it first hit the airwaves: A double dose of nostalgia.

Ranked one of the "Best Summer Songs of All Time" by Billboard, "Summer of '69" was the fourth single from Adam's fourth studio album, Reckless. Interestingly enough, producer Jimmy Iovine didn't want to include the song (or the huge hit "Heaven") on the album originally, but Adams insisted, and his instincts paid off: "Summer of '69" went on to hit #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it's still a radio staple.

The song's lyrics are a look back at an idyllic summer spent playing guitar with "guys from school" and going to the drive-in:

"Standin' on your mama's porch / You told me that you'd wait forever / Oh, and when you held my hand / I knew that it was now or never / Those were the best days of my life"

For decades, countless fans assumed the song was about the summer of 1969 (even though, it's worth pointing out, Adams would only have been nine years old that summer).

But as Adams revealed in an interview a few months back, the "69" he was referring to wasn't actually a year.

“There is a huge misconception that this song is about 1969,” Adams told Classic Rock Magazine. “But it’s not. The reason I chose 69 is because of the sexual position.”

While there have been quite a few covers of "Summer of '69" over the years (not even counting all the garage bands out there), Adams revealed that Taylor Swift was the only person to do the song "justice" in a 2025 interview with Guitar World.

“Well, I think Taylor’s version — no pun intended — was when she invited me to sing with her,” he explained. “She sang the lead vocal, I sang the harmony, and that was really fun for me because I’ve always thought that the harmony in that song is very subliminal on the record — but it’s there.

“That harmony is one of the key things that most people don’t get when they hear the song; they don’t realize how important it is," he connected. "But when I sang it with her, we nailed it. And then, we only had one rehearsal, so she knows that song really well. And yeah…it’s fantastic.”

Meghan Trainor has canceled The Get In Girl tour, which was scheduled to kick off this summer. The singer-songwriter is boldly declaring a necessary pause for work-life balance sake after the arrival of her third child, less than three months ago.

Trainor's seventh studio album, Toy With Me, is scheduled to be released on April 24, 2026, and this tour in support of the new album was scheduled to run from June 12 to August 15, 2026. On top of these two ginormous feats, Trainor and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, just welcomed their third child, daughter Mikey Moon, who arrived on January 18, 2026 via surrogate. Little Mikey joins older brothers Riley (age 5) and Barry (age 2).

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than 10 weeks after she was abducted in Tucson, Ariz.—and as the FBI looks at DNA evidence from the 84-year-old's home, a genetic genealogist said that a rootless hair can "absolutely make the case solvable."

On Thursday, April 16, NewsNation Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin spoke with CeCe Moore, a genetic genealogist, after a private lab working with the Pima County Sheriff's Department sent the DNA sample to the FBI.

During his Brian Entin Investigates episode, the journalist explained that the DNA evidence collected from Nancy's home was hair, according to his sources. "The fact that it's hairs, what does that tell you?" he asked Moore.

"I've been really hoping that maybe they did have some hair to work with," she replied. Because of the more recent advancements in the field, hair can absolutely make the case solvable. So I'm really excited."

Moore continued, "And the fact that they sent it to the FBI is interesting to me because [the Florida lab doesn't have] the technology to extract snips from rootless hair. And I am assuming it's rootless hair because if it had a root, it would be really, quite straightforward And the lab in Florida would have already done that. And maybe the case would already be solved."

Additionally, she pointed out that until recently, a rootless hair "did not contain any useful DNA for forensics, or for this type of analysis." Moore explained that, thanks to new technology from Dr. Green at Astrea Forensics to extract snip profiles from rootless hair, many otherwise unsolvable cases have been cracked.

She added, "Now we just have to hope that it is the person or persons—one of the persons—who kidnapped Nancy.

"It's again, kind of a Hail Mary," Moore cautioned. "Everything is getting to that point, I feel, because so much time has gone by. But you just never know."

Nancy was last seen at her Tucson residence on the evening of Jan. 31, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department launching its search on Feb. 1. As of writing, no suspect has been named.

CBS has renewed Beyond the Gates for two additional seasons, extending the daytime drama through 2028, the network confirmed yesterday. In response to the news, star Lauren Buglioli, who plays Vanessa McBride, celebrated the milestone on social media.

In a recent post shared on Isntagram, Buglioli wrote, “TWO MORE SEASONS!!! 🥹🥂🎉 there aren’t words to express how fulfilling it is to be a part of a show that means as much to viewers as it does to our @beyondthegatescbs family.”

If one were to crown a singular rock star as the all-time king of catchy guitar riffs, who would the honor go to? Obviously, this is a topic fans have been arguing about for decades, but one guitarist whose name always gets tossed into this theoretical ring is, of course, Jimmy Page.

There's a reason why Page has been hailed as a guitar god for over half a century, and many feel that answer can be summed up in one single song: "Whole Lotta Love," which reached certified gold status in the U.S. on April 16, 1970, after selling over one million copies. (Against the record label's wishes, the song wasn't released in the U.K. as a single as part of manager Peter Grant's album sales-boosting "no singles" policy for the British market, according to Turn Up the Volume.)

Not bad for a song Page wrote while lounging on his houseboat one summer day.

"I came up with the guitar riff for 'Whole Lotta Love' in the summer of ’68, on my houseboat along the Thames in Pangbourne, England," Page recalled in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

"I suppose my early love for big intros by rockabilly guitarists was an inspiration, but as soon as I developed the riff, I knew it was strong enough to drive the entire song, not just open it," he continued. "When I played the riff for the band in my living room several weeks later during rehearsals for our first album, the excitement was immediate and collective. We felt the riff was addictive, like a forbidden thing."

Page went on to note that Robert Plant's vocals on the song were "just as extreme."

"He kept gaining confidence during the session and gave it everything he had," Page said. "His vocals, like my solos, were about performance. He was pushing to see what he could get out of his voice. We were performing for each other, almost competitively."

'Whole Lotta Love' led to a lawsuit

It's no wonder BBC's Radio 2 ranked "Whole Lotta Love" as the "Greatest Guitar Riff of All Time," even if it did end up getting the band sued by Willie Dixon, who wrote Muddy Water's "You Need Love."

They were eventually forced to give him Dixon co-credit for writing the song, but the controversy certainly didn't take anything away from the song's legacy

Plant didn't seem bothered by the comparisons in a 1990 interview with Musician, excerpted by Open Culture.

“Page’s riff was Page’s riff. It was there before anything else. I just thought, ‘well, what am I going to sing?’ That was it, a nick," Plant explained, adding, "Now happily paid for. At the time, there was a lot of conversation about what to do. It was decided that it was so far away in time and influence that…well, you only get caught when you’re successful. That’s the game.”

The former First Lady of the United States and a popular late-night TV host walk into a bar… okay, that’s not exactly how the joke goes. And the pair didn't walk into a bar. Instead, they sat down together on a podcast to talk about life, comedy, and parenting.

Celeb dad Jimmy Kimmelrecently joined Michelle Obamaand Craig Robinson for the pair’s IMO podcast, and the comedian opened up about starting his career and being a single dad. Kimmel divorced from his now-ex-wife, Gina Maddy, in 2003. But before the two split, he became a father to his first two children, daughter Katie and son Kevin (who are now in their 30s). He also has two younger children, Jane (born in 2014) and Billy (born in 2017), with his current wife, Molly McNearney.

During the podcast, Obama asked Kimmel about how it was “single dad-ing it” in the early days of his late-night talk show. He explained his daughter, who was 10, and his son, who was eight, “Kind of had the run of the place. And you know, there were a lot of snacks. I’m sure that was a big thing that they remember…Our family traditions just took place at the show.” He continued, “I’d be writing a monologue and helping them with their homework.” 

It looks like time hanging with dad on the set had a pretty major impact on Kevin. Kimmel revealed that his son now works on the show. Daughter Katie has gone in a different direction, working as a sculptor and ceramics artist. But that’s not all. She’s also a mom—which makes Kimmel a grandpa! 

The podcast veered off from Kimmel’s backstory when Obama stopped to take a question from a female listener about parenting, staying present, and prioritizing as a mom. Ever the comedian, Kimmel jokes, “Number one…your husband comes first. No matter what.” 

Of course, the late-night host doesn’t really believe that. But his answer does get a chuckle from Obama and Robinson. Kimmel goes on to address the root of the issue, making a strong point that if the roles were reversed, everyone would be applauding a dad who said, “I’m with these kids all weekend. And sometimes at night.” 

He continues, pointing out, “There’s only 24 hours in the day, and now we’re expected to do so many more things, and I don’t know why that is…Just do your best. And I mean, that has to be enough.” 

The dad-of-four explained that his wife sometimes feels as though she’s not doing enough at work or enough for the kids. So, how did he react? Kimmel says he touched her on the face and told his wife, “You’re doing a great job. You’re doing everything you can. And that’s all you can do.” Now that’s some pretty solid advice!

Take a peek at the back of your television, and there's a chance an old Amazon Fire TV Stick is plugged in.

Haven't used it in a while? That might mean either you forgot about it or, like the plaintiffs in a new class action lawsuit, you intentionally called it quits after the device became laggy and unbearably slow.

Top Class Actions reported this week that Amazon is now facing a complaint alleging it intentionally rendered older Fire TV Stick devices unusable by discontinuing software support while continuing to market the products as offering “instant” streaming capabilities.

The lawsuit notes that Amazon promoted its first- and second-generation Fire TV Stick devices as providing instant access to hundreds of thousands of movies and shows across major streaming platforms — and that those advertised features were central to consumers’ purchasing decisions.

Per Top Class Actions, the plaintiff alleges that Amazon later removed or limited critical software functionality, which cased the devices to become slow, difficult to use or effectively inoperable. The lawsuit describes this practice as “bricking,” meaning the devices lost their primary functionality despite the hardware remaining intact.

Merewhuader stated that he purchased two second-generation Fire TV Stick devices in 2018 and began experiencing significant performance issues within a few years. He alleges the devices eventually became unusable, forcing him to purchase newer ones in 2024.

The lawsuit claims Amazon stopped providing software updates for first-generation devices in December 2022 and discontinued support for second-generation devices shortly thereafter, despite allegedly representing that support would continue through 2024.

Earlier this month, Top Class Actions also reported on another class action lawsuit faced by an entirely different mega-company. Google recently settled a $135 million suit to resolve claims that it used Android devices to transfer information to Google without user permission, consuming cellular data. Read more here.

When you think of "fancy" appetizers, what comes to mind? Caviar and blinis? Bacon-wrapped scallops? Mini, well, anything? Here’s the thing: fancy appetizers don’t have to be complicated. This is something you can make all on your own for your family and friends, and it’s not that difficult (really!).

In fact, most chefs agree that creating an elevated appetizer is less about technique and more about intention. A simple bite can feel restaurant-worthy with just a few thoughtful upgrades, whether that’s better ingredients, smarter plating or a little contrast in texture and color. Even familiar dishes can take on a whole new life when they’re scaled down, cleaned up, and served with a bit of finesse.

Paris-based food designer, chef and caterer Anna Meerson, founder of Baboushka, says it comes down to balance and experience. "Good texture, color and surprise in flavor" are key, she tells Parade, along with how the food is served. A cohesive spread with pops of color and a clear theme can instantly make even simple dishes feel more refined.

And while "fancy" might sound intimidating, it’s really about creating something that feels special without overcomplicating the process. Think one-bite portions, clean presentation and flavors that feel just a little unexpected.

Ultimately, fancy appetizers aren’t about showing off; they’re about making guests feel like you went the extra mile. Here’s how to do it with minimal effort so you get maximum impact.

What Makes an Appetizer 'Fancy'?

Fancy appetizers don’t have to be complicated, but they should feel intentional. In most cases, what sets an elevated bite apart comes down to thoughtful details, quality ingredients and a little visual polish.

Susan Terry, founder of Susan Terry Food and Beverage Consulting, says those upgrades can be surprisingly attainable for the home cook. "Small touches like garnishes that add a level of complexity to the dish style without dragging you down [or] ingredient inclusions that have a luxury level quality," she tells Parade, pointing to additions like vinegar pearls, shaved truffle or specialty cheeses. 

For caterer and Chicago restaurateur Jason Melamed, the word "fancy" doesn’t quite capture it. "We like to use the word ‘elevated’ because I think it really communicates what we're trying to do with any given bite—to elevate it above one's expectations, whether that’s through flavor, appearance, service-style, etc.," he says.

That approach opens the door for creativity. Even comfort food classics can qualify when they’re reimagined with care. Melamed points to dishes like fried chicken and waffles, which his team transforms into "the daintiest, cutest and cleanest" one-bite appetizer for upscale events ("One explosive bite and no syrup on your pants," he says).

Chef Sam Dickstein of Chicago’s Il Porcellino agrees that elevation often starts with what’s on the plate. "High-quality ingredients can make any dish feel elevated," he says, especially when paired with seasonal elements and thoughtful presentation.

A cohesive table, thoughtful plating and a bit of visual contrast can transform even the simplest ingredients into something that feels polished and special.

How Can I Make Appetizers Look Elegant?

If you want your appetizers to look as good as they taste, the secret isn’t complicated techniques; it’s discipline and a bit of restraint.

"Don’t be afraid to use jars or small ramekins to enhance the presentation," says Terry, who also recommends planning garnishes ahead of time and avoiding overcrowded platters. "Leave white space and replenish," she advises.

Precision matters just as much as presentation.

"Most of the time, we associate things looking elegant with having clean or well-manicured appearances," says Senior ExecutiveChefDavid Koehn of Chicago’s Mon Ami Gabi. "Sometimes it is as simple as making sure the plate is very clean and free from any smudges. Taking the extra time to make sure that every component of a dish is prepared with precision will usually result in a cleaner-looking finished product. So if you need to cut chives into batons for example, making sure that each cut is the same length and that the angles of the cuts are all correct will result in a cleaner, more elegant-looking result."

Melamed agrees: "When you portion anything, from a flatbread to an Arancini, to carrots for a crudités platter, make sure they're all the same size and shape. Consistency is sexy."

He also suggests adding texture and visual contrast—think resting bites on textured bases or finishing with edible flowers for a pop of color.

"Micro-flowers are gorgeous, and available year-round," he says. "Pluck a couple of petals from a marigold and scatter them over your hummus platter! Line the rim of your guacamole with beautiful white cilantro flowers. We actually bring a small container of fresh, edible flowers with us to all events at which we're serving appetizers, in case something has an imperfection you'd like to hide or just needs a little visual boost, micro flowers and herbs will be your best friend." Genius.

Meerson recommends thinking like a designer.

"Try to have coherence in the food you’re serving—sticking to a specific theme and making sure you’re adding pops of colour at the right places," she says, adding that avoiding overcrowded buffets is key.

Melamed even suggests laying out your buffet ahead of time with sticky notes on the trays and dishes you’re using so you can visualize what goes where before the food is even cooked.

TL;DR? Clean plates, uniform portions and thoughtful finishing touches can go a long way.

What Are Fancy Finger Foods Called?

If you’ve ever wondered what to call those elegant, bite-sized party snacks, the answer is hors d’oeuvres.

"An hors d’oeuvre is an appetizer that is generally bite-sized…easy to eat with minimal components," says Terry, noting that guests should have nothing awkwardly left in their hands after eating it (like a mini spoon, toothpick, etc.).

They’re typically served before a meal begins, often while guests are standing and mingling. As Koehn explains, hors d’oeuvres exist "outside of [the] main part of the meal," while appetizers are usually served once everyone is seated.

Melamed sums it up simply: appetizers are the umbrella category, while hors d’oeuvres are a specific type within it.

1. Crab Cakes With Papaya Relish

Terry shares this mini version of the seafood classic, which can totally be prepped ahead.

To make it, pick through 3 lb. lump crab meat to remove any shells, then gently mix with 3 cups breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons chopped chives and a sour cream mixture made from 2 cups sour cream, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco, a pinch of cayenne, salt and pepper, and 2 eggs until just combined.

Form into small (about 2-ounce) cakes, adding more breadcrumbs if needed, and chill for about 2 hours until firm. Pan-sear until golden, then finish in the oven.

Meanwhile, combine 1 diced papaya, 1/2 cup chopped green onion, 1/4 cup diced red onion, 3 tablespoons chopped cilantro, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice for the relish, and serve alongside the crab cakes with a squeeze of lemon.

2. 3-Ingredient Baked Brie

Koehn says if you can get the chive baton down, you'll already be impressing your guests with this one.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook 24 eggs for 8 minutes and 30 seconds, then let sit off heat for 1 minute and 30 seconds before transferring to an ice bath; peel once cooled to achieve a just-set, jammy yolk.

Meanwhile, make a sauce verte by blending 1 large shallot, ¾ oz. parsley, 3 tablespoons tarragon, 2–3 anchovy fillets, 1⅛ teaspoons capers, ⅜ cup spinach, 3 tablespoons chives, ½ cup + 1 tablespoon oil and ¼ teaspoon salt until thick, then whisk in ¾ tablespoon garlic confit. For the aioli, blend 1¾ cups + 1 tablespoon mayonnaise with 2¼ tablespoons garlic confit, ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper and ⅛ teaspoon salt.

Trim and halve the eggs, season with Maldon salt and black pepper, then arrange over small dollops of sauce verte. Pipe about ¾ tablespoon aioli onto each, top with smoked whitefish caviar (about 18 oz. total) and finish with chive batons.

4. Burrata & Pear Crostini

Time Commitment: 1–1.5 hours
What Makes This Special: Creamy, sweet and nutty with seasonal appeal

Dickstein says the brown butter in this dish makes all the difference. Plus, he explains, you can swap in other fruit if you don't like pears or they're not in season.

Make the pear jam by cooking 2 lbs. peeled, diced pears with 2½ tablespoons lemon juice, 2 cups brown sugar and 2 teaspoons salt over medium heat for 60–90 minutes until thick and jammy; cool completely.

For the roasted pears, brown 3 tablespoons butter, toss with 2¾ cups diced pears and ¼ teaspoon salt, then roast at 350° for 3–5 minutes until tender and lightly caramelized; cool and fold in 1½ teaspoons thyme.

To assemble, toast slices from half a baguette drizzled with olive oil, then spread about ¼ cup pear jam on a plate and place a 4-ounce burrata on top. Spoon over the roasted pears, season with Maldon salt and black pepper, and finish with 1 tablespoon chopped Marcona almonds, a handful of arugula and a drizzle of olive oil; serve with the crostini.

5. Chicory Boats With Tahina, Herbs & Toasted Nuts

Time Commitment: 20–30 minutes
What Makes This Special: Fresh, colorful and beautifully plated
Serves: 10–12 bites

One of Merson's favorites, the Paris-based chef says she makes these all the time for events and "they're always a big hit."

A few ingredients make a maximum impact here. Start by separating a head of chicory into individual leaves (red if you can find them), then make a quick tahina by blending tahini with garlic, lemon juice, salt and water until smooth and pourable.

Toast a handful of nuts in a pan over medium-high heat for 5–7 minutes until golden and fragrant, and finely chop fresh herbs like parsley and cilantro.

To assemble, spoon the tahina into each leaf, top with toasted nuts and herbs, then finish with a sprinkle of sumac and fleur de sel; arrange on a platter in an overlapping, flower-like pattern for an elegant presentation.

6. Potato Galette

Time Commitment: 25-30 minutes

An absolute Ina Garten classic, and really, who are we to argue with the queen of cuisine? To make this super easy galette, peel 2 large russet potatoes (about 1¼ pounds) and cut into fine matchsticks using a mandoline or by hand, then spread on a towel and squeeze dry.

Toss with 1 teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper, then press half the potatoes into a small skillet with 2 tablespoons canola oil, flattening into a compact round. Cook undisturbed for 5 minutes, then add 1 tablespoon melted butter around the edges and cook another 3–5 minutes until golden; flip carefully, add another tablespoon butter and cook 4–5 minutes more until crisp.

Repeat with remaining potatoes to make a second galette, then top each with 2 tablespoons crème fraîche, ¼ pound thinly sliced smoked salmon and minced chives, slice into wedges and serve hot.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has built a reputation as a top-tier, luxury ice cream brand with a loyal following. Instead of pints, Costco is offering Key Lime Pie Frozen Dessert Sandwiches, each featuring tangy key lime filling layered between graham cookies. The sandwiches are inspired by Jeni’s seasonal Spring 2026 lineup, which recently introduced Key Lime Pie as a limited-time flavor.

It might be difficult to find the funny in nuclear war. But Stanley Kubrick did, and now, his deeply satirical 1964 classic has been named the greatest dark comedy of all time.

Earlier this week,Entertainment Weekly published its list of the best dark comedies, ranking Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb No. 1.

"Overflowing with powerhouse performances from Sterling Hayden, George C. Scott, and, of course, Peter Sellers (in no less than three roles: President Muffley, Capt. Lionel Mandrake, and Dr. Strangelove himself), the movie’s humor works because it isn’t apparent to those who inhabit it," EW writes.

About a maniacal U.S. Air Force Brigadier General (named Jack D. Ripper, naturally) who orders a nuclear bomb to be dropped on the Soviet Union without authorization from his superiors, the film is a hoot today. But in the 1960s? Try polarizing, at best.

When the film wasn’t being hailed as a brilliant, visionary, or a biting comical take on the absurdity of Cold War nuclear annihilation, it was being criticized as a “dangerous,” “a shattering sick joke,” and an “evil thing about an evil thing.” Audiences, however, applauded the cynicism and pitch-black humor, and flocked to theaters to the cha-ching of nearly $10 million against a $2 million budget.

Adapted from the thriller novel Red Alert, by Peter George, Dr. Strangelove flips the narrative on its axis, “exposing [the military-industrial complex’s] hypocrisies and insecurities in a beautifully dark way,” Far Out Magazine writes. Initially approaching the film as a serious take on nuclear war, Kubrick soon realized the magic was in the farce.

“It occurred to me that I was approaching the project in the wrong way,” Kubrick said in a 1970 interview. “The only way to tell the story was as a black comedy or, better, a nightmare comedy, where the things you laugh at most are really the heart of the paradoxical postures that make a nuclear war possible.”

Today, Dr. Strangelove is widely considered not just the best dark comedy, but one of the best films ever made. According to Deep Focus Review, the success of Kubrick’s doomsday comedy rewarded the director with the artistic freedom we see in his later films, like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Eyes Wide Shut.

Movie production generally takes a year and a half to three years from development to release, but this film is the exception.

The Other Side of the Wind, which was co-written, co-directed and produced by American actor and filmmaker Orson Welles, took 48 years to film, produce, edit and release. The drama finally premiered in 2018, and stars John Huston, Bob Random, Peter Bogdanovich, Susan Strasberg and Oja Kodar.

What was supposed to be Welles' directorial comeback after years living abroad, The Other Side of the Wind began shooting in 1970, and resumed on and off until 1976. He continued to work on editing the film throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, but was embroiled in many financial, legal and political issues with investors, which prevented it from being completed sooner.

Unfortunately, Welles passed away from a heart attack in October 1985 when he was 70 years old, but there were still many efforts from others to release the film. In 2014, the rights were acquired by Royal Road, and the completed project was overseen by Bogdanovich and producer Frank Marshall. It finally premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018, and was released on Netflix on November 2, 2018. In addition, a documentary about the production process titled They'll Love Me When I'm Dead was also put out.

The Other Side of the Wind follows Jake Hannaford (Huston), a director who attempts to create his comeback film, also titled "The Other Side of the Wind," after years of exile in Europe. The drama is filmed in a mockumentary style, and tracks the chaotic final day of shooting his risky, avant-garde film.

The plot of the film was inspired by the suicide of the author and Welles' good friend, Ernest Hemingway, in 1961. He didn't start writing the script until five years later, while he was on a trip to Spain and had just wrapped another film called Chimes at Midnight.

Despite the multiple breaks during production, financial issues, legal complications and various missing elements the film lacked, it was worth the wait. The Other Side of the Wind is widely regarded as a masterpiece and holds many wins and nominations from various critics' associations in the United States and internationally.

Remembered for his work in film, radio and theatre, Welles is considered among the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time. He started his career in the 1930s, working and producing shows for the Federal Theatre Project in New York City. The entertainer then switched to radio before establishing himself in Hollywood as an actor, writer and director throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

The Other Side of the Wind can be streamed exclusively on Netflix.
