Disney World Prepares Major Upgrades—and Phased Closures—at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Walt Disney World is expanding its resort overhaul plans, officially adding extensive new refurbishment projects at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The updates—which impact both Kidani Village and Jambo House—include a multi-phase lobby transformation starting in August 2026, alongside an ongoing, multi-year room reimagining that stretches into early 2027.
As reported by Disney Tourist Blog, the newest update focuses on the lobby and surrounding common areas at Kidani Village. Beginning August 17, 2026, the section will undergo phased closures running through early November.
The closure schedule at Kidani Village includes several key dates for upcoming guests:
- August 17 – October 9, 2026: The main lobby and primary entrance will close. Guest check-in will temporarily relocate to the Palace Library.
- August 17 – August 28, 2026: Johari Treasures gift shop will be closed.
- September 28 – October 9, 2026: The north side lobby corridor will close, making the second-floor north elevators and outdoor terrace observation deck unavailable.
- October 26 – November 6, 2026: The south side lobby corridor will close, temporarily shutting down Community Hall, the Safari So Good Arcade, lobby restrooms, the laundry room, the Palace Library, and the outdoor terrace observation deck.
Related: 15 Free Things You Can Do at Walt Disney World Without Entering the Parks
What the Closures Mean for Your StayTheme park journalist Tom Bricker of Disney Tourist Blognoted that while Disney frequently updates hotel lobbies to replace traditional check-in desks with mobileCast Member pods, the length and scope of the Kidani project—including shutting down primary entrances and corridors—suggests deeper work or potential infrastructure maintenance.
"It does seem notable that both the main lobby and the primary entrance will be closed… This suggests to me that it's a bigger project than what we've seen elsewhere, and potentially caused by an invisible infrastructure issue," he explained.
Bricker cautioned that scheduled finish dates can shift, though the target completion date of November 6 strategically lands right before the heavy Veterans Day holiday travel rush.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge B-Roll (0:30)These common-area updates come on top of the resort's major "hard goods" room refurbishments—the first total gut-and-rebuild for the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas since the Animal Kingdom Villas opened between 2007 and 2009. The room updates wrap up at Kidani Village before transitioning to Jambo House, where work is slated to run through January 2027.
According to Disney Tourist Blog’s assessment, the new room designs represent a major upgrade in functionality and aesthetics.
The redone accommodations feature modern additions like Inova pull-down beds, laminate flooring, USB/outlet charging hubs, and The Lion King artwork, while preserving the rich, authentic African textures that give the resort its signature feel.
"The team tasked with redesigns has hit its stride in stylish yet practical accommodations that are both well-themed and comfortable, befitting both Disney and their price points," said Bricker.
For travelers deciding between the two sections during the construction window, Bricker recommends booking Jambo House over Kidani Village through mid-November to avoid lobby-level noise and entrance disruptions. However, guests looking for brand-new, fully updated rooms may still prefer Kidani Village if main lobby amenities aren't a high priority for their stay.

Grammy-Winning Drummer and Original Member of 2000s Rock Band Turns 48
With seven Grammy Awards and nine BRIT Awards under his belt, British drummer Will Champion has certainly earned icon status.
Today, Champion celebrates his 48th birthday. Born on July 31, 1978, in Southampton, England, he has been Coldplay's drummer since the band began in 1997. He was the final piece of the band, joining frontman Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, and bassist Guy Berryman as the fourth member of the now-legendary band.
Champion met his future bandmates while studying at University College London. While he already played other instruments since a teenager, he "didn't really look at a drum kit" and agreed to "give it a go".
While Champion has been a part of Coldplay's core line-up since the start, he was briefly fired by Martin following some disagreements. Martin immediately regretted letting Champion go, and he almost immediately rejoined the band. This incident inspired the hit song "Trouble," released in 2001 on the debut studio album Parachutes. The song was hugely successful, reaching No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Chart.
Also featured on the album Parachutes is "Yellow," which is arguably one of the band's most famous songs. Despite never reaching No. 1 on the charts, the song became one of the most streamed songs in Spotify's history and, Parachute landed the band its first-ever Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
Since the first win in 2002, Champion has gone on to earn six more Grammy Awards for his work with Coldplay, along with nine BRIT Awards, with the band holding the record for the most BRIT wins in categories like British Group and British Album of the Year for a band.
Despite the incredible successes, Champion and his bandmates remained extremely humble through it all.
"Just before we go on stage, we have a little moment,” the drummer told the Daily Echo in 2015. "We all get together and remind each other of why and how we are in the position we are and that it’s not an opportunity to be wasted. Every day we wake up knowing how lucky we are, but it drives us to work harder."
Country Star Announces News on 2026 Tour in the United States
Whitey Morgan announced some exciting news for his fans.
The country singer revealed on Instagram that he and his band, the 78's, will be going on tour again around the United States in the fall. Morgan was just recently on tour this spring, but now will be extending the run to this September.
Morgan, whose real name is Eric Allen, is set to kick off his tour on Sept. 10 in Madison, Indiana, and make various stops in Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts and more before concluding at Yantis, Texas on Sept. 26.
"Added some more dates with The 78’s this September!" Morgan wrote in his Instagram caption. "Comment ROWDY for the chance to win a pair of tickets before they go on sale this Friday, July 31."
View this post on InstagramBased in Flint, Michigan, Morgan started his band in 2005, originally under the name Whitey Morgan and the Waycross Georgia Farmboys. After performing around the country for years and releasing a debut album, Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels in 2008, they caught the attention of Chicago-based record label Bloodshot Records and released a self-titled album.
Whitey Morgan and the 78's have released multiple studio records, with their most recent being Hard Times and White Lines in October 2018. Their current lineup consists of Morgan, Johnny Up, Joey Spina, Alex Lyon, Jack Quiggins and Eric Savage on drums. In an interview with Salt Lake Magazine from earlier this year, Morgan revealed that he and his band are currently unsigned and prefer it that way.
"Being assigned a record label is meaningless. You can do all the [explicit] a label is going to do for you. If you’re smart, you can own your own masters, and that’s what it’s about," Morgan explained. "If you’re somebody who is on a record label — and you’re at the same level I am — you’re giving away so much of your money when you could be paying your band and team."
Whitey Morgan and band perform at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre on June 10, 2023 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.According to his official website, Morgan averages about 125 shows a year, and doesn't seem like he is slowing down anytime soon. His September shows will go on sale this Friday. Fans can comment "ROWDY" on the original tour announcement on Instagram for a chance to win a pair of free tickets. Tickets and more information can be found on Morgan's website.

'Vulgar, Heartwarming' Trailer for Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård’s New Film Leaves Fans Stunned
The first trailer for Wicker, an upcoming romantic fantasy starring Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Emmy winner Alexander Skarsgård, debuted Thursday, drawing immediate reaction across social platforms for its unusual storyline.
Distributed by Black Bear Pictures, the film centers on an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) living on the outskirts of a seaside village. Target of local ridicule, she turns to the town basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, to make a husband for her entirely out of woven reeds. When her creation (Skarsgård) turns out to be unexpectedly soulful, gentle, and fully functional, his presence awakens new feelings in her and triggers jealousy and upheaval among the surrounding townspeople.
The project was directed and adapted by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson from Ursula Wills-Jones' short story The Wicker Husband. The supporting ensemble includes Elizabeth Debicki, Richard E. Grant, Marli Siu, and Nabhaan Rizwan. Rather than relying strictly on digital animation, Skarsgård's title character was built as a physical suit created by special effects house Wētā Workshop.
The release of the footage, accompanied by an official R rating for sexual content, language, and nudity, sparked instant conversation on Reddit.
"As a weird lonely old horny gal… and a faintly lingering whiff of hope that perhaps one day I might meet my perfect weird partner, I cannot WAIT to see this!!!! SEATED!!!!" wrote one fan.
"The adaptation looks fantastic and wonderfully bawdy, branching out from the original short story it’s based on, The Wicker Husband by Ursula Wills-Jones," noted another commenter.
Discussions surrounding the trailer's combination of dark humor and unusual romance continued throughout Reddit forums. "This is so deeply odd. I’ll be watching," one user posted. Another commenter agreed: "This seems weird and lovely and hilarious." A fifth post cut straight to the point regarding the tone: "Vulgar, horny, and heartwarming? Call me seated."
Wicker held its world premiere earlier this year at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it screened to critical praise before securing theatrical distribution. Black Bear Pictures plans to launch Wicker in select theaters on Oct. 23, followed by a wider nationwide release on Oct. 30.
1976 Rock Legends Reimagined a 1957 No. 1 R&B Smash, Making It a Hit Twice
Bad Company was known for their hard-driving rock originals, but one of the band’s most unexpected hits came from the past.
In 1976, Bad Company recorded a cover of the 1957 song “Young Blood,” putting a surprising new spin on The Coasters classic.
Written by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller and Doc Pomus, the original rhythm and blues classic featured playful vocals about young love with ‘50s doo-wop charm. Nearly 20 years later, Bad Company gave the song a ‘70s rock swagger, turning the youthful R&B number into a powerful blues rock performance that showcased Paul Rodgers’ unmistakable vocals.
When Bad Company first teased the cover of “Young Blood" for their album Run With the Pack, guitarist Mick Ralphs told Sounds magazine the song would be Bad Company, not an imitation of The Coasters.
The band certainly delivered with a rare reimagining of the song.
'Young Blood' was a hit twice. The Coasters' original version of the song hit No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the R&B singles chart, while Bad Company’s remake reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the band’s highest-charting songs.
Still, it was an unusual move for a hard rock band in 1976 to cover a vintage R&B song, especially a band like Bad Company, which was known for writing original material—and finding massive success with it.
For Rodgers, the song wasn’t as random as it may have seemed. The singer had always been drawn to the early R&B music that shaped rock and roll. While he was best known as a hard rock vocalist, he was deeply influenced by soul and blues sounds that connected him to songs such as The Coasters’ “Young Blood.”
“I discovered Muddy Waters and started to dig the blues man, at a very early age,” Rodgers recalled in an interview with American Blues Scene. “[Blues and R&B artists] spoke of a different lifestyle altogether, but they spoke very emotively and very passionately.”
Rodgers once named Run With the Pack as his favorite Bad Company album aside from the band’s self-titled first release, in part due to the “Young Blood” cover, according to Rhino.
Decades later, Bad Company still celebrates their magical reimagination of "Young Blood.” A post on the band’s official Facebook page for the 50th anniversary of the Run With the Pack album featured a clip of The Coasters performing the song next to a still of Rodgers.
“Two eras, one song, same soul,” came the caption. “A rare cover for Bad Company.”

A New Priceline Study Reveals Where Everyone's Leaf-Peeping for Fall 2026—And It's Not Vermont
When autumn rolls around, Vermont is usually the first destination that comes to mind for vibrant maple leaves and cozy New England vibes. But according to new booking data from Priceline, leaf peepers are setting their sights elsewhere for fall 2026—and traditional favorite Stowe, Vermont, didn't even make the top five.
Instead, the top spot for America's favorite fall foliage getaway belongs to the Adirondacks in New York. Spanning millions of acres of wilderness, mountain lakes, and historic alpine villages, the region offers quintessential East Coast red and gold foliage without the bottleneck traffic seen in smaller New England towns. Following close behind at number two is the majestic Columbia River Gorge in Washington, where travelers can take in dramatic cascading waterfalls framed by fiery autumn hues along the Pacific Northwest coast.

Rounding out the top three is Aspen, Colorado, where golden quaking aspens against jagged Rocky Mountain peaks draw road-trippers and hikers looking for high-elevation autumn views. Bucks County, Pennsylvania, took the fourth spot, continuing its streak as a countryside favorite for scenic covered bridges and historic farm stands less than two hours from New York City and Philadelphia.

Further down the list, Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, secured fifth place as a gateway to the White Mountains. Michigan’s famous Tunnel of Trees along Lake Michigan came in sixth, followed by the high-alpine shoreline of North Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
The Berkshires in Western Massachusetts claimed eighth place, while Stowe, Vermont, slid into ninth. Closing out the top 10 is French Lick, Indiana, proving that Midwest historic resort towns are having a major moment for mid-season leaf peeping.
Priceline's search analysis shows a growing traveler preference for sweeping natural corridors, scenic byways, and broader regional hubs where visitors can spread out and catch peak colors without fighting crowd gridlock.

‘60s Rock Legend, With No. 1 Hit Song, Turns 81
Gary Lewis, the singer behind the timeless hit "This Diamond Ring," turns 80 on Friday, July 31.
In the mid-1960s, Gary Lewis & the Playboys couldn't be missed. With hits like "This Diamond Ring," "Save Your Heart for Me" and "Everybody Loves a Clown," the group put together a remarkable chart run, holding their own as one of the few American bands able to compete with the British Invasion.
Years before forming the band, Gary was born to comedian Jerry Lewis and singer Patti Palmer. His mother, who was performing with the Ted Fio Rito Orchestra at the time, hoped to name him after her favorite actor, Cary Grant, but a clerical mistake led to "Gary" instead.
Gary got his first set of drums as a 15th birthday gift in 1960. By 18, he had put together a band with four friends, naming them "Gary and the Playboys" after joking that they acted like "playboys" for always arriving late to rehearsals.
They also intentionally left his famous surname out of the group, wanting to see if they could make it without any added attention.
Their strategy worked out when the band landed a regular gig at Disneyland. It turned out to be their big break. Producer Snuff Garrett happened to catch one of their performances and offered them a shot at recording. Only then did they add Lewis' name to the group.
In early 1965, "This Diamond Ring" became the group's breakthrough hit, shooting to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over a million copies.
Even Gary was surprised by how far it went. "We were 19 years old, in college, our first or second year," he recalled to Forbes in 2020. “[Garrett] had this song and asked us to come over to Liberty to tell him what we thought of it. I said, ‘Sure,’ but I would have said I liked it no matter what it was.”
“It just happened to be ‘Diamond Ring’,” he continued. “And we cut it. It stunned the h*** out of us because it went to No. 1 in like, six weeks, and actually kicked ‘Eight Days A Week,’ by The Beatles, out of No. 1. That was really something, you know.”
More hits followed, including "Count Me In," "She's Just My Style," "Sure Gonna Miss Her" and "Green Grass." The streak was so strong that Gary Lewis & the Playboys became one of just two '60s acts whose first seven singles all landed in the Top 10.
However, everything slowed down in 1967 when Gary was drafted into the U.S. Army. His past hits kept charting in his absence, but by the time he returned in 1968, the music industry looked a lot different.
The group managed one more Top 20 hit that year with a remake of "Sealed with a Kiss," but its days at the top were largely over.
Looking back now, Gary still remembers that era fondly, even after the hits slowed down. “It was such a thrill for me to be in music at that time because of the Beatles and the British Invasion,” he told Lehigh Valley News.
“So it was an absolute thrill for me. I just loved it that we could stay up there with all the British stuff happening.”
That love for the stage never faded. He still tours today as Gary Lewis & the Playboys, now with a different group of musicians behind him. “It’s wonderful because I’m seeing the crowd smile, they’re mouthing the words right along with me,” he said, per Remind Magazine.
He's also made a point of keeping the music sounding just as fans remember it. He told Boomer Magazine in 2023 that audiences prefer the hits as they originally sounded on the radio, not new versions.
“Over the years there have been many sets of Playboys, but today’s group has been with me since 2004 and has that same great original sound,” he said. “We don’t do a huge number of shows a year now, but I still love it and seeing the fans, new and old, who still love our music.”

The 4 Most Forgiving Birth Dates
Forgiving people make the world a better place. While some people carry hurt for years, others set it down the moment they've made peace with it. What separates the two often has less to do with how deeply they feel something and more to do with how their mind processes it once the sting fades.
According to birth datenumerology and astrology, the day you were born reduces to a single digit, and that digit carries its own energetic imprint. Therefore, your birth date shapes how you handle conflict, hurt, and the slow work of letting go. For a few birth dates in particular, forgiveness isn't something they have to work at. It's simply how they're naturally built.
The 4 Most Forgiving Birth DatesCheck for your birth date. Disregard birth months.
Born on the 2nd: The Instinctive PeacemakerIn numerology, the number 2 represents partnership and harmony. Therefore, those born on the 2nd are natural peacemakers, ruled by the Moon, the celestial body of emotion and intuition. Conflict genuinely unsettles them, so rather than let a rift sit, they're usually the first to reach out and mend it. Their forgiveness isn't about being a pushover. Rather, it comes from a place of emotional intelligence and maturity. They'd rather protect the relationship than win the argument. They know ego doesn't bring true fulfillment, and mercy comes easier when you're not trying to win.
Born on the 6th: Loves Without Keeping ScorePeople born on the 6th lead with love before anything else. Governed by the homemaking number 6 and ruled by Venus, the planet of love and harmony, this birth date tends to see the humanity in whoever hurt them. Often, they'll extend grace before it's even asked for. Their forgiveness often shocks onlookers. For them, letting go is an act of unconditional love as much as it is relief. To heal, they know they must release resentment and choose peace instead. They may not forget, but they certainly free everyone involved from prolonged drama.
Born on the 16th: Forgives After UnderstandingThose born on the 16th don't forgive quickly — they forgive thoroughly. Ruled by Neptune, the planet of intuition and spiritual depth, they process pain internally first, and by the time they've sat with it, they've usually already found the compassion on the other side. Their forgiveness is slow, but it's real, built on understanding rather than avoidance. As introspective souls, they find the deeper lesson in hardships. By looking at life through such a bird's-eye view, they often transmute sensitive wounds into greater self-awareness. It's challenging to hold onto bitterness as they evolve, and these individuals often find spiritual unity once the situation calms down.

Born on the 27th: Too Wise to Hold a GrudgeIndividuals born on the 27th carry an old-soul wisdom that makes grudges feel almost pointless to them. Their birth date reduces to the number 9, tied to humanitarian ideals and the end of cycles in numerology. They see the bigger picture: that everyone is fighting something. Their open-minded perspective tends to make absolution feel less like a decision and more like the natural next step.

Quote of the Day: Psychologist Ellen Langer’s Words on Keeping an Open Mind Are More Relevant Than Ever
We’ve all heard the little saying “mind over matter,” and while it’s a nice sentiment to get you to finish the 10th rep in an exercise in your barre class, it seems a bit far-fetched to think that your mind can do much more than that, like age you backwards or help with adverse reactions of your job. But psychologist Ellen Langer’s research tries to prove just that, as "The Good Life" podcast reported in 2024.
In an interview with Langer about her 2023 book, The Mindful Body, they wrote that she had conducted over four decades of research proving “that how you think, feel, believe and expect is just as important, if not even more so, than what you do…” And our quote of the dayby Langer shares her insight into the world of possibilities when you just open your mind to them.
Per Langer’s website, she has “written extensively on the illusion of control, aging, stress, decision-making and health without meditation” in “over 200 research articles and 13 books…” She earned her PhD at Yale University in Social and Clinical Psychology, and joined Harvard University’s staff in 1977. And according to Harvard, she became the first woman tenured in Harvard’s Department of Psychology. She’s also received many accolades, including three Distinguished Scientist Awards, the Staats Award for Unifying Psychology, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Liberty Science Genius Award.
They call her the “mother of mindfulness” on Harvard’s Department of Psychology website, and that’s thanks to all of her work within the psychology of possibility and her research on mindfulness and the power of thought. And The New York Times dubbed her the “mother of positive psychology.”
She is still doing speaking engagements and continues to write, having published a book as recently as 2023. She is also still doing research, looking to “explore, extend and refine mindfulness theory across multiple domains.” She is also a gallery-exhibiting artist, per her website.
And today’s quote again dives into Langer’s essential theory regarding the possibilities available to us if we allow ourselves to be open-minded.

Quote of the Day by Ellen LangerCanvaPro/Parade
“We should open ourselves to the impossible and embrace a psychology of possibility.”
This quote appears in Langer’s 2009 book, Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility. The book basically poses the question, “If we could turn back the clock psychologically, could we also turn it back physically?” per its description.
It focuses a lot on Langer’s research, including her experiment in the 1970s where she took a group of men in their 70s and 80s and had them live as though it was 1959. They had decor, music, shows and more that were from 20 years prior, making them live and think like a younger version of themselves. They came out of the experiment with better memory, dexterity, appetite and overall well-being.
As the Harvard Magazine reported in 2010, the experiment hoped that the study would show what she hypothesized: “that our fixed ideas, internalized in childhood, can affect the way we age.”
She’s also done speeches and lectures on the psychology or “study of possibility,” which is “the study of what might be rather than a mere description of what is,” per The Care Side.
Related: Quote of the Day: Norman Lear on Why Everyone Has Something to Teach You
Deeper Meaning of Ellen Langer’s Quote—Open Yourself up to the ‘Impossible’Even though Langer’s most famous experiment involved “reversing” the physical and psychological effects of aging, she has done other studies that also touch on this concept of opening your mind to the impossible, such as the chambermaid study. In this one, she looked at hotel maids, and with just a tweak in how they viewed their work (as exercise as opposed to a laborious job), they had positive results such as weight loss, improved blood pressure and more.
And Langer lives this quote as well. In an interview with James Whittaker for his podcast, "Win the Day," he asked Langer if there are things she believes to be true even though it hasn’t been verified by science or research yet.
“The way I keep my mind open is by recognizing all we don’t know about the things we think we know," she said. "And when you realize you don’t really know the things you think you know, then it’s easier to say, ‘Well, I don’t know this either, maybe there’s some way that it might be true.’”
While we don’t want to get into the realm of wishful thinking or fantastical elements, Langer’s work has shown that there is a very clear relationship between keeping an open mind to things, even if you deem them not possible.
So when looking at today’s quote, Langer is saying that when you close yourself off to things because you don’t think you deserve them or you just don’t see a way they can happen, you are really cutting yourself off at the knees, so to speak. If you do that, you’re stopping yourself from achieving things that might feel a little out of reach or “impossible.”
But when you believe in the psychology of possibility, and open yourself up to “the impossible,” more things can come your way. It’s all about being open and receiving gifts that might fall in your lap from that open-mindedness.

More Quotes from Ellen Langer- “Knowing what is and knowing what can be are not the same thing.”
- “What we have learned to look for in a situation determines mostly what we see.”
- “My ideas sometimes get the better of me. Before I clearly explain one, another comes to mind and seizes my attention....”
- “In the perspective of every person lies a lens through which we may better understand ourselves.”
- “Not only do we as individuals get locked into single-minded views, but we also reinforce these views for each other until the culture itself suffers the same mindlessness.”
- “Certainty is a cruel mindset. It hardens our minds against possibility.”

1964 Country Star Was Missing for 2 Days After a Terrifying Crash
Jim Reeves was already one of country music’s biggest stars when his plane disappeared during a violent thunderstorm in 1964, setting off a massive search that lasted two days.
Reeves, 40, was piloting a single-engine Beechcraft Debonair with his business partner, manager and pianist Dean Manuel on July 31, 1964. The two men were returning to Nashville from Batesville, Arkansas, when they encountered severe weather near Brentwood, Tennessee.
The crash would become one of the most tragic moments in Nashville history. But initially, authorities didn't even know where the plane had gone down.
Reeves had been in contact with the Nashville airport tower as he approached the city. According to later accounts of the crash investigation, the aircraft entered heavy rain shortly before the fatal accident.
The plane disappeared from radar, and the search began. But the wooded terrain made the search especially difficult.
More than 700 volunteer searchers, civil-defense workers and police covered roughly 20 square miles during the two-day effort, according to a 1964 Cash Box report. Military, state and private aircraft also joined the search, while some of Nashville's biggest country stars helped look for their missing friend.
Among those involved were Chet Atkins, Eddy Arnold, Stonewall Jackson and Ernest Tubb.
Marty Robbins was also among the people who searched for Reeves.
The country star later recalled being outside his home during the storm when he heard a low-flying airplane overhead, followed moments later by the sound of a crash. He didn't initially know that Reeves was at the controls.
The wreckage was finally located on the morning of Aug. 2, approximately 42 hours after the crash.
Reeves and Manuel were found dead inside the wreckage. Contemporary reports described the aircraft as heavily destroyed, with the force of the impact driving parts of the plane into the ground.
The discovery brought an agonizing period of uncertainty to an end for Reeves' family, friends and fans.
Radio stations began formally announcing the singer's death that afternoon, and the news sent shock waves through country music. Reeves had been a major figure in the genre, known for his smooth baritone and his role in the development of the polished sound that became known as the Nashville Sound.
Later accounts of the investigation concluded that the severe storm caused Reeves to become spatially disoriented. Some retellings have claimed that he was flying upside down while attempting to escape the storm, but that version has been challenged by eyewitness accounts cited by Reeves' biographer, Larry Jordan.
His funeral followed just days later, with thousands of mourners gathering to pay their respects. Reeves' coffin was reportedly covered with flowers as it traveled through Nashville.

'90s Rock Band Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 28 Years After No. 1 Hit
Korn is climbing the Billboard charts again more than three decades after the band first released its music and 28 years after it scored its first Billboard 200 No. 1 album.
The nu metal band’s Greatest Hits, Vol. I has re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 195. The 2004 compilation also returned to the Top Rock and Alternative Albums chart at No. 49, following a new wave of interest in one of Korn’s earliest songs, “Blind.”
The chart return comes after “Blind” gained attention as the entrance song chosen by San Diego Padres pitcher Mason Miller. In late March, Miller used the Korn track as he walked to the mound for a game against the Detroit Tigers, according to Forbes.
“Blind” also made a strong showing on several Billboard digital sales charts. It debuted at No. 2 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, No. 5 on Alternative Digital Song Sales and No. 6 on Rock Digital Song Sales.

The result gives Korn another notable chart moment while bringing the band’s early catalog to a new generation of listeners.
Korn’s 'Blind' Drives New Billboard Chart Success“Blind” was released in 1994 as the first single from Korn’s self-titled debut album. While the song did not become a major U.S. mainstream hit when it was first released, it became an important part of Korn’s early rise and the development of the nu metal sound.
Now, more than 30 years later, the song has reached new career highs on two Billboard sales charts.
On the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, “Blind” fell just short of No. 1. AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” took the top spot, moving from No. 3 to No. 1 and blocking Korn from another leader on the chart.
“Blind” is one of four Korn songs that have reached No. 2 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. The other three are “Get Up!” with Skrillex, “Rotting in Vain” and “You’ll Never Find Me.”
Korn’s first Billboard 200 No. 1 came with Follow the Leader in 1998. The album reached the top spot for one week after its September 1998 debut. The band followed that success with another No. 1 album, Issues, in 1999.
The renewed interest in “Blind” has also brought Korn’s Greatest Hits, Vol. I back to the Billboard charts. Released on October 5, 2004, the compilation originally debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. It collected songs from Korn’s first six studio albums, covering the band’s rise from its 1994 debut through the early 2000s.
The album includes “Blind,” along with other well-known Korn songs such as “Clown,” “Shoots and Ladders,” “A.D.I.D.A.S.,” “Twist,” “Freak on a Leash,” “Got the Life,” “Falling Away from Me,” “Make Me Bad,” “Here to Stay” and “Did My Time.”
It also contains two previously unreleased recordings at the time: Korn’s cover of Cameo’s “Word Up!” and a version combining Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” Parts 1, 2 and 3 with “Goodbye Cruel World.”
Greatest Hits, Vol. I went on to receive a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Korn’s Billboard history stretches well beyond its two No. 1 albums. Untouchables reached No. 2 in 2002, while Take a Look in the Mirror reached No. 9 in 2003. See You on the Other Side peaked at No. 3 in 2005, and the band continued to place albums in the top 10 in later years.
Their most recent studio album, Requiem, was released in 2022 and reached No. 14 on the Billboard 200.
Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer said the band has written about 40 songs during the long process of developing its next studio album. He explained that the group has repeatedly rewritten, removed and rebuilt songs because the members want to make sure the new material keeps Korn’s original sound while bringing something fresh.
“It’s taking a [explicit] long time. We’ve gone through… I swear to God, we’ve written probably almost 40 songs, and gone through ’em, and rewrote ’em, and got rid of ’em, and tore ’em apart, and rebuilt ’em,” Shaffer said, per Chaoszine.
Korn also released “Reward the Scars” on April 23, 2026, marking the band’s first new song in four years. The track appeared on the soundtrack for the Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion pack.
For now, the band’s older music is once again finding its way onto the charts.
The sudden return of “Blind” has helped send Greatest Hits, Vol. I back onto the Billboard 200, giving Korn another chart appearance nearly three decades after Follow the Leader first made the band a No. 1 act.
