Summer weather is the worst for hot sleepers, especially if you need the comfort of a blanket to fall asleep. It’s seemingly impossible to catch some shuteye with the sweltering heat leaving you profusely sweating and tossing and turning all night long. If this brutal weather has forced you to crank up the air conditioning every night just to get some rest, we found a simple solution that may just save your electricity bill. A must-have for the next few months, this Emme Cooling Blanket at Walmart makes summer nights something you can look forward to again.

Right now, you can score this cooling blanket on sale starting at just $15! Normally retailing between $23 and $34, the throw version is now marked down between $15 and $20, depending on the color. You can choose from four colors with a subtle striped pattern, including blue, green, gray, and lavender. This blanket is also available in twin, queen, and king sizes, which are on sale starting at $19, $34, and $35, respectively.

Delivering the utmost comfort during the muggy summer months, this blanket is lightweight and breathable, weighing less than 2 pounds. It allows air to flow through instead of trapping your body heat. This blanket is double-sided, with the top made of 50% mica nylon and 50% protein microfiber, and the underside made of 100% protein microfiber.

Mica is a mineral that draws heat away from your body to help prevent you from overheating. It’s infused into the nylon fabric, which is great at wicking away moisture. It absorbs sweat and quickly evaporates it to keep your skin dry.

Not only does this blanket help maintain a comfortable body temperature, but it can actually help reduce it by a few degrees. Shoppers attested to this, noting that they can even feel the coolness through their clothes. Reviewers who experience hot flashes swear by this blanket, noting that it has been amazing for them.

“My wife and I are hot sleepers, and this silky blanket keeps us cool even on hot summer nights,” one reviewer raved. Another reviewer said that they “naturally run hot” and are “able to sleep so much better now” with this blanket. They described it as “very lightweight” and added that it’s “pretty.”

While the mica nylon works to cool you down and keep your body at a comfortable temperature, the protein microfiber gives the fabric a soft, silky texture. This blanket offers that comforting layer that’ll keep you cozy all night long, whether you’re watching a movie, reading a book, or sleeping.

As a bonus, this blanket is easy to care for. Whenever it needs a refresh, you can just toss it into the washing machine with cold water. For size reference, the throw measures 50 inches by 70 inches, and the twin blanket measures 60 inches by 80 inches — they’re both ideal for one person. If you’re sharing the blanket with another person, opt for the 90-inch-by-90-inch queen blanket or the 90-inch-by-108-inch king size.

‘80s Rock Icon’s Youngest Son, 22, Is Releasing Rock Music Just Like His Father

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 7:44am

Jon Bon Jovi has four children with his wife, Dorothea Hurley. Their third-born, Jake, has been in the spotlight recently, since he is married to the iconic Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things. His youngest child, Romeo, is ready to enter the spotlight, as well. He is a member of a rock band who is pursuing a music career.

On July 29, Romeo appeared on “The Dory Jackson Interview.” When speaking about his time in music school, he said, “For the longest time in middle school, when I knew I wanted to do music, I was like, ‘Man, but if you go to a college for music, you’re a total poser.’ I know that middle-school-me would probably call current-day-me a giant poser. But he was 12, so what does he know?"

Romeo attended the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and graduated this May. Not only did he receive his degree, but he revealed that he met one of the founding members of his rock band, Lawn, on campus when asking about homework.

Romeo went on to speak about the important role his college education played in his life. “I didn’t know how to compose anything,” he said. “I just knew that I liked music, and I knew that I loved performing, and I knew that I loved writing.”

He continued, “I remember touring Miami and seeing the campuses and being like, ‘Okay, this is for me.’ That was like the nail in the coffin. I was 16, and I knew that, ‘Okay, music is what you want to do because for the first time you really feel at home here.’”

Bon Jovi spoke with The Independent about his son’s rock band back in 2025. He said, “The first singles are great. That’s all I’ve heard. People talk about these nepo babies, blah blah blah, but I’m not in there at all. He’s got his own vision, which I really appreciate.”

Andy Cohen’s Dr. Fauci Tribute Sparks Wildly Different Social Media Fan Reactions

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 7:22am

Bravo's Andy Cohen sparked a wave of discussion after honoring Dr. Anthony Fauci as his Watch What Happens Live “Mazel of the Day,” with fans reacting very differently depending on the social media platform.

The Bravo personality praised Fauci, celebrating him as someone who deserves recognition. While many fans on Threads applauded Cohen’s decision and thanked him for using his platform, the response on Facebook was far more divided, with commenters criticizing the tribute and urging Cohen to “stick to Housewives.”

On Threads, the reaction was overwhelmingly supportive. Fans flooded the comments with messages thanking Fauci for his public service, with one user writing, “Yay! Mazel love Dr Fauci a true hero! thank you!! ” Another praised Cohen directly, saying, “Thank you for using your platform @bravoandy.”

Other supporters called Fauci a “hero” and expressed appreciation for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Amen!! Fauci is a hero!!” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Thank you, Dr. Fauci for your service.”

Some Threads users also framed the moment as a response to recent criticism aimed at Fauci, with one commenter writing, “What happened yesterday was a national disgrace.” Others defended their continued support for Fauci, noting they still receive updated COVID vaccines and appreciate his medical guidance.

View this post on Instagram

However, not every Threads user agreed. A few commenters pushed back against Cohen’s choice, accusing him of entering political territory. “Oh come on Andy don't start to get into politics because you don't know what you are talking about,” one person wrote.

The conversation took a noticeably different tone on Facebook, where Cohen’s post drew a much more polarized response. Several commenters criticized him for speaking out, with remarks including, “Stick to Housewives Andy” and “Stay in your lane dude!”

Critics questioned Fauci’s past decisions and public testimony, with some referencing his congressional appearances and the COVID-19 response. “Why need a pardon? Or plead the fifth?” one commenter wrote, while another added, “Did he lie in journal or did he lie in congress in his first interview?”

Others mocked Cohen’s support of Fauci, including comments about COVID boosters and accusations that he was simply repeating information he had been given. “Look at Andy just reading what he was told,” one Facebook user wrote.

Still, Cohen also had supporters on the platform, with fans defending his message and thanking him for speaking out. “Bravo Andy we support your opinions,” one commenter wrote, while another said, “Well said Andy.” The split reactions highlight how differently audiences can engage with the same celebrity post depending on the platform.

1988 No. 1 Funk Song, From an Iconic Supergroup Member, Topped the Charts 38 Years Ago

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 7:13am

“Roll With It” was a hit funk song released by Steve Winwood in 1988. The song, which spent four weeks as the top song on the Billboard Hot 100, was nominated for two Grammy Awards. It also hit No. 1 on the Billboard mainstream rock chart and the Billboard adult contemporary chart.

The music video for “Roll With It” was directed by David Fincher, who is known for his work on hit films like Fight Club, Seven, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. It captures Winwood performing a song in a bar while the customers dance with one another.

Winwood went on to join a supergroup called Blind Faith, which was comprised of Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Ric Grech. In an interview with Louder Sound, he spoke about the difficulties of being in such an iconic band. “Blind Faith came into being," he stated. "And there were immediate problems – with egos, with management and organization. Those are all massive problems for a supergroup. The trouble is, when you start with the idea for a new group, you have the whole of your life to figure out what you’re going to do, how to fine-tune it and hone the act.”

He continued, "Then, if it’s successful, your next problem is: what do we do next? You get stuck for a follow-up. It’s all about timing. You have to move very quickly on to the next project and make sure it isn’t a pale imitation of the debut. I blame the industry in part for putting pressure on supergroups, because you’re trying to present a product to the world at large, and every minute you take is money lost as far the business is concerned. They’re so excited with their supergroup, they want more. The result of that pressure is, you start making mistakes, because you can’t just throw something together."

Winwood won two Grammy Awards and an Ivor Novello Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. He is currently 78.

Linda Ronstadt Turned a Rejected Monkees Track Into Her Biggest Breakthrough Hit

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 7:11am

Every music icon has that one moment where everything changes with a song that takes them from a struggling artist to a household name.

For Linda Ronstadt, that turning point came in 1967 with a song that captured the spirit of a new generation of folk-rock fans. Her voice was pure power, turning a simple breakup song into an unforgettable hit that launched her legendary career.

Yet behind the scenes of the song "Different Drum" was a surprise twist nobody saw coming. Before Ronstadt turned it into pure gold, the track was completely passed over by the producers of a famous music group, who thought it was a total flop.

Ronstadt shared her introduction into the music business with The Wall Street Journal. She explained, "I began singing folk locally on my own, sometimes backed by my cousin on guitar. A big break came in 1964, when childhood friend Bobby Kimmel asked me to join him in Los Angeles. Then Kenny Edwards joined, and we became the Stone Poneys."

It was during her time as a vocalist with the Stone Poneys that Ronstadt first heard a song by the folk band Greenbriar Boys. The tune, "Different Drum," was written by Mike Nesmith, recorded in 1966, and included on the band's album Better Late Than Never.

Far Out Magazine quoted Ronstadt discussing "Different Drum" from the 2016 book Anatomy of a Song. She said, "Today I will break my finger trying to get that record off when it’s on. Everyone hears something in that song – a breakup, the antiwar movement, women’s lib. I hear a fear and a lack of confidence on my part.”

In an interview with NPR, Ronstadt added, "I thought it was a hit. But I wanted to record it in a folky way. So we recorded it with a guitar and a mandolin. And of course, you know, the record company didn't like it." Producers ultimately changed the tune to a more folk-heavy version, unlike the song she initially fell in love with.

However, before the Stone Poneys recorded "Different Drum," the song was first pitched to the producers of The Monkees television series by Nesmith. It was rejected.

The Monkees Producers Don Kirshner, Tommy Boyce, and Bobby Hart relied heavily on legendary songwriters such as Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Neil Diamond, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil to create The Monkees' sound. Therefore, the record label prioritized guaranteed chart-topping hits over internal band compositions, leaving Nesmith’s country-folk songwriting style sidelined, which is why a track like "Different Drum" ended up in the reject pile.

Songfacts shared a 1971 quote from Nesmith in which he shared further insight into the song's history. "Most of the songs I did write, they didn't want, so on the last few albums I didn't contribute much in the way of material. I took them 'Different Drum,' and they said all it needed was a hook. They asked me to change it and told me it was a stiff."

However, he changed his tune after hearing Ronstadt's version. Nesmith told Rebeat Magazine, "I sang 'Different Drum' for John Herald of the Greenbriar Boys like that. He took it home and turned it into the ballad that it became. Linda heard the ballad and made us all rich."

Mike Nesmith later recorded his own version of the song in 1972 on a solo album called And The Hits Just Keep On Comin'. "Different Drum" was eventually featured in a Monkees episode, "Too Many Girls."

Linda Ronstadt's version with the Stone Poneys reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1968.

I Packed Just a Carry-On for Disney—These 6 Quince Pieces Saved Me in the Orlando Heat

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 7:10am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

I’ve packed for two-week trips through the Mediterranean, quick weekend escapes to Paris, and sun-soaked Caribbean beach vacations—all in a single carry-on. But my toughest packing feat yet? A trip to Disney World.

While showing off a little Disney spirit at the Happiest Place on Earth is part of the fun, surviving the brutal July Orlando heat is a whole different ballgame. Sure, warm Florida weather means lightweight shorts, tees, and activewear, but a full Disney day—spanning from rope drop to the late-night fireworks—comes with an endless list of "what-ifs." Throw in sudden rainstorms, sweaty mid-day outfit changes, and endless walking, and every inch of suitcase real estate matters.

The biggest surprise of the trip? My holy-grail survival pieces came from Quince. While I usually associate the direct-to-consumer "luxury-for-less" brand with lazy afternoons sipping Aperol Spritzes in Europe, their breathable, all-natural fabrics turned out to be the ultimate theme-park hack. Here are the 6 Quince pieces that got me through a July in Orlando with just a carry-on:

It’s so comfortable, breezy, and versatile that you’ll want it in multiple shades (and luckily, you can bundle them in packs of three to save a little extra).

There’s a reason Tuscan-inspired interiors continue to have a hold on home decor lovers. This comforter set borrows from classic European textile design, wrapping your bed in an elegant damask motif rendered in warm, Tuscan-inspired hues. Soft shades of terracotta, sandstone, antique gold, taupe, and ivory mingle throughout the oversized medallion pattern, creating a layered look with remarkable depth. Each elongated ogee frame encloses intricate floral scrollwork and delicate botanical flourishes, while fine filigree details fill the negative space for an heirloom-inspired finish. The result feels reminiscent of old-world Italian villas, where sun-washed stone walls, weathered plaster, and ornate architecture inspire a palette that's both warm and timeless. On the reverse, the comforter switches to a beige hexagon-and-clover pattern, offering a quieter look whenever you want to simplify your bedding.

The set includes one comforter and two coordinating standard shams, creating a cohesive, thoughtfully layered bed straight out of the package. The comforter's 100% cotton shell is naturally breathable and feels soft against the skin, while the 100% polyester fill provides lightweight insulation that helps it retain its plush loft over time. The medium-weight construction strikes a comfortable balance for year-round use, offering enough loft to feel cozy without becoming overly heavy.

The intricate damask pattern pairs beautifully with crisp white sheets, textured linen throws, velvet accent pillows, or natural jute rugs, making it easy to layer into a bedroom that feels warm, collected, and thoughtfully styled. Whether you’re leaning into a full Tuscan-inspired retreat with rustic wood accents and antique finishes or simply adding a touch of European-inspired elegance to a more modern space, the timeless floral design can act as a statement piece while still blending effortlessly with existing decor.

This set is also Oeko-Tex Made in Green certified, meaning it has been tested for harmful substances and manufactured using more environmentally responsible production practices. All pieces are machine washable for easy care, so maintaining that polished, boutique-hotel look doesn’t require extra upkeep.

This “soft,” “cool,” and “comfortable” set brings a “warm and inviting” feel to any bedroom while offering the “perfect weight” for hot sleepers. One Macy's shopper praised the quality, writing that “the texture is great and feels luxurious even after a wash or two.”

Another reviewer highlighted the reversible design, sharing that it offers “two equally beautiful patterns,” essentially giving you “two looks in one.”

And, across the myriad outfits he's created, one rule remains constant: Only use animal-free and cruelty-free fabrics.

"I mean, my whole business has kind of been that for a really long time," the 40-year-old tells Parade in an exclusive interview. "I've never really used any leather or fur in my whole career."

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Given Siriano's stance, it was only a matter of time before he got involved with Humane World for Animals. For over 70 years, the nonprofit has put in countless efforts to end animal cruelty and suffering in all its forms and fights to create lasting change. According to Siriano, he was first introduced to the cause courtesy of his good friend Sia, with the mega popstar herself also a passionate animal rights activist. In 2025, he designed her custom "animal print" gown for Humane World for Animals' rebrand. The print was then later featured in his New York Fashion Week collection in early 2026.

So, when talks started happening for Season 22 of Project Runway, Siriano brought an idea to the table: Have the designers create outfits using entirely animal-free and cruelty-free fabrics. And, to quote his mentor predecessor, he made it work.

"I felt like that was a good challenge for young designers to think about too," he recalls. "There are ways to make a fabulous leather jacket that doesn't have to be a real leather jacket. There are beautiful faux furs that look incredible. There's so much technology in fabric making. I felt like there was a really good way to show people that you can be inspired by a beautiful creature, but in the best way."

Even though no animals will be used in the making of these designers' outfits, they certainly won't be absent from the runway. The looks in this week's episode are instructed to pay homage to some of the animal kingdom's fiercest creatures. And special guests from Hulu's "Get Real" lineup will serve as the models to show off their hard work.

"I think it was a cool challenge for them," Siriano says. "I think it's nice to figure out, 'Okay, if you're inspired by a lion or a shark or a bird or whatever it is, how do you make something?' And I think those things have inspired fashion designers for years. How do you make those things feel beautiful and elegant? Also, we don't want you to make a costume inspired by a lion. It's how does it make you feel?"

While working with animal-free, cruelty-free fabrics was set up for a challenge on Project Runway, it is far from one in the real world. In fact, Siriano provides some tips for designers out there on how to get the aesthetic and texture they desire without any skins or hides involved.

"There's a lot of beautiful faux crocodile skin, faux snakeskin, faux furs," he advises. "There's tons of brands and fabric companies that are making beautiful quality things that look just as real and give the homage. We love the skin of a bag, which I get that is a historical thing, but not in the right way. We want to make it feel new and modern for what's happening in our world now. And I think that is pretty important. Fashion definitely goes in those cycles, and I hope that the young generation understands it more."

A new episode of Project Runway airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform, and is available next day on Hulu and Disney+. Click here for more information on Humane World for Animals, including how you can volunteer or donate to the cause.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe Just Added a Cult-Favorite Hot Sauce to Their Summer Menu

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:59am

Summer just got a little hotter: Tropical Smoothie Cafe recently introduced a limited-time menu item called the Tiki Torch Wrap. The item debuted at participating locations across the United States on July 29.

The fast-casual chain designed the item to feature layered heat rather than a single jolt of spice. The wrap includes Cholula Chili Lime seasoned grilled chicken, crispy habanero-spiced onions, chili mayo, and a toasted sriracha flour tortilla.

The product launch aims to target consumer demand for spicy foods and bold flavor profiles. The company structured the menu item to pair heat with the brand's core beverage offerings. In a statement, the chain highlights the contrast between the spiced wrap and the cool temps of a fruit smoothie.

"Our guests love flavor that surprises them, and the Tiki Torch Wrap does exactly that," said Deborah von Kutzleben, Chief Marketing Officer for Tropical Smoothie Cafe. "The wrap brings real heat in a way that's craveable, not too over the top. And of course, cooling it down with a smoothie is part of the experience — that balance is what makes Tropical Smoothie Cafe, well, Tropical Smoothie Cafe."

Customers can buy the item individually or experience the combination through the company's Pair & Save menu. The value menu bundles the wrap alongside a beverage selection.

(Source: Tropical Smoothie Cafe)

Founded in 1993 on a beach in Destin, Florida, Tropical Smoothie Cafe started as a small smoothie shop before opening its first franchise location in Tallahassee in 1998. The brand's popularity allowed it to grow nationally and the company added food items like wraps, flatbreads, and bowls to complement its beverage lineup. Recent seasonal and promotional rollouts have leaned heavily into pop-culture tie-ins and fruit-forward flavor profiles, including specialty beverages like the How Far You'll Mango Smoothie and the Watermelon Mojito Smoothie alongside savory additions like toasted snack rolls.

Availability of the Tiki Torch Wrap varies by geographic region. Franchise locations set independent operational schedules for limited-time offerings, and supplies remain limited for the duration of the promotion. Nutritional details and allergen disclosures for the four-layer wrap and individual smoothie pairings are accessible through the company's official website and mobile application.

The ‘Father of Rock ’n’ Roll’ Died 23 Years Ago Today

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:51am

Long before Elvis Presley became the King of Rock 'n' Roll, one music pioneer took a chance on a young singer who walked into a small Memphis recording studio looking for an opportunity.

That pioneer was Sam Phillips, the founder of Sun Records, who died on July 30, 2003, at the age of 80.

Decades later, Phillips remains remembered as the "Father of Rock ’n’ Roll" for helping launch some of the most influential artists in music history.

Phillips founded Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1952 with the goal of recording new and groundbreaking sounds. The label quickly became a home for emerging artists who would go on to reshape popular music.

In 1954, a young Presley entered Sun Records to record a song as a gift for his mother. Phillips heard something special in Presley’s voice and brought him back to work with guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black.

That session produced "That’s All Right," a recording that helped introduce Presley to the world and became a major moment in the development of rock 'n' roll.

But Presley was only one part of Phillips' legacy.

Sun Records also helped launch the careers of artists including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. The label's combination of country, blues and rhythm and blues influences created a sound that would help shape the future of American music.

Phillips' influence extended far beyond the artists he signed. His willingness to experiment with new sounds helped change the music industry and gave a platform to performers who might otherwise have gone unheard.

In 1986, Phillips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class. He later received numerous honors recognizing his impact on music history.

Builder Who Took Captain Sandy Yawn’s Money Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison After $8.7M Fraud Scheme

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:42am

The builder accused of taking money from Below Deck Mediterranean star Captain Sandy Yawn, her wife Leah Yawn, and 14 other families while promising to build their dream homes has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a massive construction fraud scheme.

Spencer Calvert, president of Pineapple Corporation, was sentenced Wednesday after admitting to 45 felony charges connected to a scheme that left families with unfinished homes and millions of dollars in losses. Calvert was ordered to pay $8.7 million in restitution, with investigators identifying Captain Sandy as one of the victims who paid for a Jacksonville-area home that was never completed. The sentencing marks the end of a years-long legal battle, though victims say the financial and emotional damage will continue long after the courtroom proceedings.

During his sentencing hearing, Calvert acknowledged the harm caused by his actions, admitting he “made numerous mistakes which led to catastrophic losses and hardships that the victims and many others have faced and continue to face,” according to First Coast News. “For that, I accept complete responsibility. And I offer my sincere apology.”

Calvert read each victim’s name in court, but for many former clients, the apology came too late. One victim told the judge, “Today he came up here and talked about how sorry he is, how remorseful he is. That would’ve been very useful three to four years ago when all this came to light.”

Leah Yawn also rejected Calvert’s apology, calling it “fake” and “phony.” In an Instagram story that included video of Calvert being handcuffed after the hearing, she wrote, “The builder that stole our money. Only 5 years! What a joke."

An investigation found Calvert spent more than $730,000 in company funds on personal expenses, including restaurants, travel, furniture, liquor retailers and $19,000 in Jacksonville Jaguars tickets. His defense team argued he should receive probation and could repay victims $3,000 per month, but the judge rejected the request, noting it would take roughly 217 years to recover the full restitution amount at that rate.

Calvert pleaded guilty to charges including organized fraud, grand theft, and misappropriation of construction funds. He will serve five years in prison, followed by 30 years of probation, and must repay $8.7 million to victims.

Find Out Which Golden Girls Character You Are, Based on Your Birth Month

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:31am

Did you know that July 30 is known as Golden Girls Day, per ABC? To celebrate, now's the perfect time to figure out what astrology has to say about your perfect Golden Girls match. From Family Ties to Cheers, TV audiences had their pick of a slew of sitcoms in 1985. But there was a newcomer that year that continues to hold court in the nostalgia zeitgeist because it really is just that legendary.

Following three besties in their 50s—and one in her 70s—who live in Miami, The Golden Girls stole viewers’ hearts with its charm, poignant moments, and hysterical antics. The hit show predated Sex & the City as an opportunity for fans to not only relate to but compare themselves to one (maybe two) of the main characters. Are you more of a critical Sophia, a grounded Dorothy, a sweetly innocent Rose, or a fiery Blanche? Look to your birth month—which offers valuable intel on your personality, perspective, and strengths—for the answer.

The Golden Girl You Relate to Most, Based on Your Birth Month

Read on to find your birth month aligned with one of the Golden Girls.

Blanche Devereaux: April, July, August

If you were born in April, July, or August, you came into the world around the time that the sun was moving through two fire signs—action-oriented Aries or driven Leo—and, in turn, possess a passionate, go-getter, unfiltered energy that’s reflective of 6151 Richmond Street’s Southern belle played by Rue McClanahan.

Known for being self-assured, unapologetically sexual, and perpetually on the hunt for her true love, you can relate to Blanche’s confidence, dynamism, impulsivity, and adoration of dating, luxury, and flirting (it’s part of her heritage, after all!). Her youthfulness and vivacity also mirrors your own. You might very well be like Blanche in that you avoid divulging your age, because you don’t want to be limited by any false perception of what it means. And like the Golden Girl who frequently wore red, you also have a strong sense of self and make a point to take up space.

Sophia Petrillo: January, June, October

You were born during a month that hosts one of the three air signs—contrarian Aquarius, buzzy, witty Gemini, and partnership-oriented Libra—and are therefore most like Sophia Petrillo, the octogenarian mother figure in Golden Girls.

Dorothy’s mom, played by Estelle Getty, garnered laughs galore with her sharp wit, brazen clapbacks, and wisecracks. Having been born in an airy month, you’re similarly cerebral and a master of language like Sophia. You’re a people person who enjoys pouring your time and energy into your platonic as well as familial bonds, which reflects Sophia’s M.O. And while might not always be over dramatic, you’re capable of digging your heels in or getting swept up in your emotions, which Sophia was also known to do from time to time.

Dorothy Zbornak: May, September, December

You came into the world in a month that hosts the sun’s trip through an earth sign—Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn—which offers you innate pragmatism and a desire to be organized, rational, and grounded, much like Dorothy, played by Bea Arthur.

Direct and levelheaded with a dry, blunt, sarcastic sense of humor, Dorothy possessed traits that Arthur must’ve shared with her character IRL, having been born during Taurus season on May 13. You can relate to her strong will, introspectiveness, and no-nonsense attitude, as well as the fact that she’s incredibly loyal and protective of her loved ones. Just like Dorothy, you’re used to serving as a grounding force for your friends and family members.

Rose Nylund: February, March, November

You were born during a month in which the sun was moving through two of the water signs, whether mystical, rose-colored glasses-wearing Pisces (February and March) or emotionally intense, intimacy-seeking Scorpio (November). You’re a romantic whose feelings are often at the forefront of everything you do, which might prevent you from being truly grounded in reality, much like dreamy Rose, played by Betty White.

Creative, heartfelt, and deeply kind-hearted, Rose might find it challenging to stand her ground, but she’s also a force to be reckoned with when it comes to being a loving shoulder to lean on for the other Golden Girls. Similarly, your own powers lie in your emotional intelligence and ability to hold space for your loved ones. As a natural-born homebody, you might also be similarly talented in the domestic arts, just like Rose, who was often lauded for her cooking and baking.

We Asked 4 Psychologists What Usually Causes Adult Siblings To Drift Apart—They All Said the Same Thing

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:17am

As a kid, your sibling is often your built-in best friend. A brother or sister is someone with whom you likely shared a home (or even a bedroom!), went to the same school and maybe even participated in some of the same activities—even if you were a theater kid while your sibling was more into sports.

But as we get older, things change. People move out of their family homes and thousands of miles from their siblings. They get involved in their communities, get married, have children, take on time-consuming jobs and essentially start new lives and form new values.

Essentially, as the years go by, it can be harder to keep up with our siblings. And whether or not a pair or group of siblings drifts apart because of a disagreement or just because life gets in the way, a major change to a sibling relationship can be heartbreaking for everyone in the family.

But what is the most typical cause of siblings drifting apart in adulthood? To find out, Parade consulted four psychologists: Dr. Peter Vernig, a clinical psychologist and the Vice President of Mental Health Services at Recovery Centers of America, Dr. Amanda Sellers, Psy.D., a licensed psychologist in private practice in Pennsylvania, Dr. Kim Chronister, a licensed clinical psychologist in California, and Dr. Maggie Hogan, a licensed clinical psychologist offering teletherapy to patients in Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire and Colorado.

Interestingly, all four psychologists agree on one of the most common factors that causes adult siblings to drift apart—and it's not what you might expect. Keep reading for their insights.

This Is What Usually Causes Adult Siblings To Drift Apart, According to 4 Psychologists

According to Dr. Vernig, Dr. Sellers, Dr. Chronister and Dr. Hogan, one of the main factors that causes siblings to drift apart as adults is passive drift.

What is passive drift, exactly?

Passive drift is when two people slowly drift apart "as life unfolds," Dr. Vernig explains to Parade. It's not intentional or the result of an argument—it just happens.

"New priorities, such as school, work and recreation, begin to take priority and often do not align with those of our siblings," he explains. "We may still have common ground emotionally, but our day-to-day lives have less and less room."

According to Dr. Sellers, passive drift usually happens over time, as a result of our lives evolving.

"Life gets busy. Siblings grow up, go away to college, get jobs, move across the country, marry into new families and start their own families," she tells Parade. "Once adults are working and have their own families, things get exponentially busier and more exhausting. Siblings simply don’t have the energy or time to connect."

Living far away from siblings can lead to passive drift

"When we are younger, it is often much easier to foster our relationships with our siblings because our lives are more interwoven," Dr. Hogan explains. "We grow accustomed to this passive effort in sibling relationships, so when life changes and our lives become less interwoven, shifting to an active effort to foster these relationships requires adjustment. If we aren't intentional about nurturing these relationships and putting in active effort, siblings can passively drift apart."

Dr. Chronister agrees, explaining that, "Geographic distance and busy schedules can decrease opportunities for meaningful connection. Since sibling relationships require intentional effort to maintain, less frequent contact can gradually lead to emotional distance."

How To Repair a Sibling Relationship After Passive Drift

Passive drift between siblings is often a result of living life on autopilot. And according to Dr. Sellers, "The antidote to autopilot is intentionality."

"Like any relationship, it will take work, time and energy to thrive," she explains. "It also helps to be transparent with your sibling and name the dynamic."

She recommends reaching out to your sibling and saying something like, "Hey, we’ve drifted apart, I don’t like it, and I want to put in the work to be closer to you."

After that, try to contact your sibling more frequently and more intentionally. "Over time and with regular, meaningful connection, the bond can strengthen," per Dr. Sellers.

Similarly, Dr. Chronister recommends starting your reconciliation with self-reflection followed by sending a simple message.

"Start by reflecting on what contributed to the distance and be willing to acknowledge your own role if appropriate," she says. "Reach out with a sincere, low-pressure message that focuses on reconnecting. Listen openly and allow trust to rebuild gradually through consistent, respectful communication."

Your new relationship with your sibling may look different

"Don't try to return to the same relationship you had," advises Dr. Vernig. "Time machines only exist in the movies, and you are both different people than you were when you played together as children."

Instead, he advises reaching out to your sibling the way "with the same curiosity that you would a new friend." Ask them questions about their current interests and values, and get to know the new them.

These 3 Other Factors Can Also Cause Strain in Sibling Relationships

Passive drift isn't the only reason brothers and sisters may drift apart. Here, the experts share three other common causes of strain between siblings.

1. Dysfunctional childhoods

"A major factor that causes siblings to drift apart in adulthood is having parents who instigated competition and rivalry between their kids in childhood," says Dr. Sellers, adding that parents constantly comparing you to your sibling can lead to "animosity, inferiority and jealousy" that extends into adulthood.

"It’s hard to feel close to someone you feel you’re in competition with," she continues. "In adulthood, you can stop accepting the childhood narrative. You and your sibling aren’t the problem; you were just parts of a dysfunctional family system. You don’t have to be competitors; you can be allies."

Getting to know your sibling as a new person now that you're both grown can help you both move on from this mindset.

"Shifting your thoughts and overall belief system about your sibling and your relationship with them can be incredibly healing," she says.

2. Diverging values

As kids, we often share similar values to our siblings and parents. But as we get older, we develop our own values—and this can cause a rift between siblings, according to Dr. Vernig.

"If there are specific topics which are a barrier to reconciliation, such as strong opposing political beliefs, put this on the table," he advises. "Have a conversation (when you are both calm and ready for the discussion) and agree to leave this topic out of your relationship. You can respect and care for someone even if you don't believe the same thing."

However, this is easier said than done, and may require vigilance.

"Assuming that you can reintroduce this as the subject of conversation just because you've enjoyed several months of harmony can undo what you've accomplished," Dr. Vernig warns. "Respect this boundary, and if you think you would like to discuss an 'off limits' topic with your sibling, have another conversation about both of your thoughts and feelings about doing so."

And if you and your sibling are struggling to make amends, Dr. Chronister recommends going to family therapy together, as this "can provide a safe environment to improve communication."

3. Family unit shift

Growing up, your immediate family typically includes your siblings and parents. But in many cases, getting married and having kids shifts one's mindset to their partner and children being their immediate family.

"This turning towards a new family is often accompanied by a turning away from our family of origin," explains Dr. Vernig. "This does not mean abandonment but rather that our needs are being met and our energy focused on the family we build. This can be magnified if a spouse or partner does not fit in or get along with parents or siblings."

How To Cope With Stress Over a Strained Sibling Relationship

"Feeling sadness or disappointment over a distant sibling relationship is normal," says Dr. Chronister.

To deal with these feelings, she recommends trying healthy coping strategies, such as talking with a therapist or supportive friends, journaling and practicing mindfulness.

"Concentrate on what you can control, including your own efforts to reconnect or your response if reconciliation is not possible," she adds. "Maintaining other meaningful relationships and practicing self-compassion can also help reduce emotional distress."

Final Thoughts

Siblings can drift apart as adults for a number of reasons, but the relationship can be repaired with effort.

  • Passive drift is a major cause of adult siblings losing touch. As lives change, so do priorities and relationships.
  • Dysfunctional childhoods and diverging values also cause siblings to drift apart. Overcoming conflict can make repairing the relationship challenging, but with respect, it's possible.
  • Intentionality is key to repairing a strained sibling relationship. Put in the work to get to know your sibling for who they are today, and you can eventually become close again.

Costco’s New Bite-Sized Van Leeuwen Find Is Worth the Trip Alone

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:16am

If you have a sweet tooth and a soft spot for premium ice cream, Costco has a new freezer find that's worth making room for. Van Leeuwen's Strawberry & Cream French Ice Cream Bonbons have arrived in warehouses, bringing 30 bite-sized frozen treats made with a real strawberry coating and a creamy vanilla French ice cream center for just $11.99.

Take a look at the find shared on Instagram by Juli Sandjaja (@costcoaisles) on July 28:

View this post on Instagram

Unlike a traditional pint that disappears after a few generous scoops, these individually portioned bonbons make it easy to enjoy one or two at a time. The 30-count bag is just as practical for movie nights and parties as it is for an after-dinner treat. At $11.99, it also offers considerably more dessert than a single premium pint, which typically costs $7 to $9 at most grocery stores.

Related: Costco’s New Hawaiian Freezer Find Is a Little Taste of Paradise

Each bonbon features a creamy vanilla French ice cream center wrapped in a coating made with real strawberry puree. In fact, strawberry puree is the very first ingredient in the coating, followed by cane sugar, water, coconut cream, apple puree, and apple juice concentrate.

Photo by Brett Jordan on Unsplash

It's a detail that suggests these bonbons are made to deliver more authentic strawberry flavor than many frozen treats that rely primarily on sugar or artificial flavoring. The coating is naturally colored with vegetable juice from radishes and carrots, while the French ice cream center is made with cream, egg yolks, and natural vanilla extract.

According to the packaging, the approximately 20-ounce bag contains about 30 individually wrapped bonbons, or roughly 15 two-piece servings. The individually wrapped portions make them easy to stash in the freezer for a quick dessert, add to an ice cream sundae bar, or serve on a platter when friends stop by.

Whether you're stocking the freezer for late-summer gatherings, looking for an easy dessert to serve guests, or simply want a premium frozen treat that's already portioned for you, Van Leeuwen's Strawberry & Cream Bonbons check a lot of boxes. Considering that a single premium pint often costs nearly as much on its own, getting about 30 bite-sized treats for $11.99 makes this one of Costco's freezer finds that delivers plenty of value.

Similar linen-blend matching sets can cost around $50 to $80, while some retailers sell linen-blend shirts and pants separately for $30 or more per piece. Even after accounting for the separate shipping charge, which is also important to keep in mind when ordering, this outfit is still priced well below many comparable options.

The fabric is also a huge perk. Because linen is super breathable and moisture-absorbent, and cotton is breezy and durable, you get the perfect combo of airy texture and softness. The sleeveless top and wide-leg pants also allow more airflow than a fitted top and skinny pants, making the set great for hot days when you still want some leg coverage.

From the Place Martin Nadaud to the Pont Louis-Philippe bridge and the Eiffel Tower, the actress made her way around the French capital earlier this year, shooting Paris is Always a Good Idea.

The Mean Girls actress stars as Chelsea Martin, a nonprofit executive whose job takes her (and her rival colleague Jason Knightly) to Paris, a city she spent part of her gap year. While in town to secure a major donor, a message from her late mother ends up sending Chelsea on a journey, reconnecting with three past loves in Europe.

"I think there's something really just cool about revisiting your past, and when she travels to each place, she not only revisits these relationships, but also who she was at that time in her life and who she was in the relationships, all while having a really, really interesting current day story as well that might turn into the love of her life," Chabert told Parade on the set of Paris is Always a Good Idea.

After more than 40 projects with the network, the new six-episode romance, based on Jenn McKinlay's 2020 novel of the same name, marks Chabert's first scripted series for Hallmark. The limited series format allowed for a deeper dive into the story, something Chabert pointed out they "don't always do in the movies because of the time constraint."

"With this being a limited series, there's six episodes, it's almost like doing six movies, and we get to really explore all of the characters and all of the nuances and relationships, and the places that we travel to, our characters in the story in and of themselves," Chabert said.

While the actress loves that the stories she tells with Hallmark have a "hopeful, happy ending," this particular one, she noted, is "really unique because it goes really deep," but also has "a little bit of everything."

"There's tons of romance. There's some comedy. There's a lot of fun banter," Chabert teased. "There's a lot of thoughtfulness, and I think this one digs really deep as she's overcoming things in her life and sort of discovering who she is in this moment, and then reflecting on how her past has changed her, for better or for worse."

Parade joined Chabert and her co-stars, Greek’s Scott Michael Foster, The Witcher's Rebecca Hanssen and Ready or Not's Henry Czerny, in the City of Light this spring as they filmed scenes in Paris, while café patrons looked on, market vendors became background actors, curious onlookers watched from their windows and pedestrians stopped in the streets.

"I look around, and it's really surreal right now that I'm talking to you from this beautiful bridge in Paris. It's a dream come true," the Party of Five alum gushed.

Thinking back to her days playing Bianca Montgomery on All My Children and Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls, Chabert never imagined her career would lead her to Paris to film this Hallmark series. Just asking if she had any sense back then of where she hoped her career would one day go gave her chills.

"I have wanted to act and tell stories since my oldest memory, since I was a little, little girl, and when I was seven, I started professionally acting, and I never dreamed that all of this would happen for me," the star of the upcoming movie Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True confessed. "I'm so thankful that God has opened so many doors, and I have gotten to walk this path of so many blessings."

That road has also led Chabert to become the Queen of Hallmark, allowing her to do what she loves: telling stories. "I want to tell stories for the rest of my life. And the fact that I found such a home in Hallmark it's just wonderful because we get to tell stories that are full of hope and love and about the relationships that bring us together," Chabert said. "I'm so thankful for all of the dreams come true. No, I had no idea. I never had an idea I'd be standing here in Paris and then going to film in Spain and all of the incredible places that I've had the chance to go and tell stories."

She added, "I mean, any day I'm working as an actress, I know is a blessing, and it's just so special"...much like this opportunity.

And we can attest, after joining the Hallmark star on the first stop of her new globetrotting romance, Paris is always a good idea, even more so when it includes Lacey Chabert!

The first two episodes of Paris Is Always a Good Idea premiere July 30 on Hallmark+.

Seth Meyers Torches Trump's Iran Claim: 'The Most That Never Happened'

Thu, 07/30/2026 - 6:10am

Seth Meyers didn't buy Donald Trump's latest claim about Iran for a second, tearing into the president's assertion that the country "very nicely" asked the U.S. to stop its military campaign. During Wednesday's "A Closer Look," the Late Nighthost dismissed the claim as "the most that never happened" before launching into a series of biting jokes.

Meyers devoted much of the segment to Trump's claim that Iran had supposedly called to say, "Please stop. Let's meet," arguing the story quickly unraveled as reports emerged of continued military action and even Fox News questioned who the president was actually negotiating with.

The comedian used the contradiction to fuel an extended riff, comparing Trump's account to an elderly grandparent falling for a scam call while repeatedly questioning the credibility of the president's version of events.

"Of all the conversations that never happened, that one is the most that never happened," Meyers quipped about the alleged exchange. "Iran called you up and said, 'Please stop.' Are you talking about a country you're at war with or your neighbor during a house party?"

Mimicking Trump, Meyers continued, "Yeah, Terry called me up and said, 'Please stop blasting Steely Dan.' I said, 'Sorry, no can do. It's only 3:00 a.m. Party's just getting started.' So he called me a pedophile protector and hung up. Communist."

Meyers then played Fox News clips reporting that Iran had launched attacks targeting U.S. forces and that Saudi Arabia and Iraq were now involved in the escalating conflict.

"I thought Iran called you and said, 'Please stop,' not 'Keep the party going and invite all my neighbors,'" Meyers said. "I should have known Trump was lying."

After highlighting the confusion surrounding Trump's claims, Meyers turned his attention to Fox News hosts pressing the president for details about his alleged conversations with Iran.

"I mean, at this point, when Fox News asks, 'Could you tell me who you're talking to?' they might just mean them," Meyers joked. "'Mr. President, do you recognize my voice? It's your friend, Brian. Are you doing okay, Bud?'"

"Even the president's biggest supporters are asking him where he's getting his information," he continued. "This is like when your 80-year-old grandpa tells you he just opened a new account at a bank you've never heard of."

Conjuring Trump's voice again, Meyers added: "'A nice lady called and said if I give her my Social Security number, I could win a free cruise.' 'Grandpa, wait. What nice lady?' 'From the bank.' 'What bank, Grandpa?' 'It's called the Bank of Iran.'"
