In 1979, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears had their first and only hit song with "Driver’s Seat.” The classic rock/new wave song, from the band’s 1978 album Fickle Heart, peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Driver's Seat" was popular enough to fuel a two-and-a-half-month tour for Sniff 'n' the Tears in the United States, per the British band’s official website.

Rolling  Stone ranked “Driver’s Seat” as one of the 50 best road trip songs of all time, on a list that included driving classics by Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, and Tom Petty. The outlet noted  the song featured “an acoustic guitar rhythm that never quit, even as it swerved around a Moog solo and the fragmented alienation of the lyrics.”

The song isn’t actually about driving

Sniff ‘n’ the Tears founding member Paul Roberts once revealed he started writing “Driver’s Seat” in the middle of the night when a noisy refrigerator kept him awake.

In an interview with Rock History Music, Roberts said he went for a walk at 2 a.m. and heard a riff in his head. He went home to work on the chords and later realized it was somebody else’s riff. “The O’Jays or somebody like that,” he said. “It was kind of a dance floor riff. So I just stayed with the rhythm guitar part and built the song on that.”

As for the lyrics, Roberts told Interviewing the Legends the song is not about driving a car. “It’s not about driving, no,” he said of the often-misunderstood theme. “It just means take charge of your own life, you know, get your act together, really.”

“The driver's seat, I mean, I think it just means not literally getting into a car but just taking control of your own destiny, that's all,“ he said during a 2024 appearance on the Professor of Rock podcast. “Don’t let other people, you know, decide your life. You decide your own life.”

Roberts elaborated in an interview with Vintage Rock. “Lyrically, the song is about picking yourself up after a breakup,” he said. “Musically, it started as a riff; behind the riff was a revolving chord sequence. I abandoned the riff when I realized it was a bit similar to something else, but the acoustic pattern was unusual and led to a certain propulsive tension that suited the fragmented state of mind implied by the words.”

Surprise success

Roberts also touched on the song’s success in the United States and other countries.

“I think everyone was surprised,” the band frontman said. “It didn’t conform to the obvious tropes, but everyone who heard it seemed to love it, so we knew we were onto something. I still couldn’t tell you what. … In some way, [“Driver’s Seat”] established an unrealistic precedent. It was a bit of a one-off.”

While the song wasn’t written about a car, Sniff ‘n’ the Tears enjoyed renewed success after Driver’s Seat” was used in a Pioneer car audio campaign in Holland in 1991, per the band’s website. The band has been reformed in various incarnations since.

In an interview with Athens Calling, Roberts reflected on the legacy of his classic song. “I think it has an energy and it’s unusual in its structure, the lyric is positive,” he said. “People seem to love it."

While most cruise lines impose a 200% single supplement—effectively charging one person for two—Carnival frequently reduces this for 1A cabins. In many cases, solo travelers can find supplements as low as 110% to 150%, making it one of the most cost-effective ways to cruise alone in 2026.

Traveling with a buddy? If you’re okay with cozying up in a bunk-bed configuration, the 1A is a total steal. It’s perfect for two friends who care more about the destination than the floor plan. In many cases, you can snag a 5-night cruise for under $500 per person, leaving you with plenty of extra cash for shore excursions or a drink package.

The "Upper/Lower" Configuration Explained

Unlike a standard cabin where twin beds are pushed together to form a king, the 1A layout typically features one twin bed on the floor and one "upper" pullman bunk or a sofa bed. According to Carnival’s official stateroom descriptions, these rooms are roughly 185 square feet, but because only one bed occupies the floor, the "walking room" is significantly increased. This makes the cabin feel much larger than a standard Interior, providing extra space for a desk, chair and luggage storage.

The "Secret" Porthole 1As

The "holy grail" for budget hunters is the Interior Upper/Lower (Porthole) sub-category. On several ships, these rooms are located at the very front of the vessel and feature two round porthole windows. This allows guests to enjoy natural light and ocean views while paying the absolute lowest Interior rate.

Where to find these "view" rooms:

• Carnival Dream, Magic, & Breeze: Staterooms 1203, 1204, 2211, 2212, 2216, and 2217 are confirmed to feature portholes.
• Carnival Panorama & Horizon: These newer ships also maintain the "Interior Upper/Lower (Porthole)" category on lower decks like Riviera and Main.
• Carnival Sunrise & Radiance: Look for staterooms like 1201, 1202, 1205, and 1206 for a similar porthole setup at a 1A price point.

Is This Real?

Yes. We’ve vetted current room rates and availability for 2026 and 2027, and asked Stewart Chiron, also known as The Cruise Guy, who confirmed Category 1A isn’t just a legacy listing—it’s an active booking category you can snag right now.

While veterans on Cruise Critic note that a 1A is often "slightly smaller than 4A [average about 15 feet smaller]," most agree they offer "adequate storage" and a unique charm for those who "always end up with the out of the ordinary." However, experts offer one major warning for those looking to gamble on a better room: "Please don't book a guarantee 'banking' on an upgrade." As one user pointed out after booking six 1A guarantees, they still "got the 1A cabin five times."

Current Availability & Pricing

While these cabins are famously found on Florida-based favorites like the Carnival Conquest and Carnival Sunrise out of Miami, or the Carnival Vista and Carnival Freedom out of Port Canaveral, their value truly shines on longer itineraries.

Long-Haul "Journeys": Savvy travelers have spotted 1A availability on 15-day Transatlantic sailings (like those on the Carnival Miracle) and repositioning cruises between the U.S. and Europe.

The Price Point: During shoulder seasons, solo cruisers are still reporting "white whale" deals where they secure 1A cabins for less than $350 per week.

The "Journeys" Advantage: On longer 10+ day sailings, the daily rate for a 1A often drops even lower than on standard Caribbean loops, making it the strongest value in the industry for those with a flexible calendar.

Editor’s Tip: Because there are only a handful of 1A cabins per ship (and they are the first to go during "Reduced Solo Supplement" promotions), you’ll want to filter your search specifically for "Interior Upper/Lower" as soon as the sailing dates are released.

Harrison Ford is one of the biggest movie stars who ever lived—and the story of how it happened is just as poignant as the iconic characters he’s played. He was born in Chicago on July 13, 1942, and grew up as a shy, quiet kid. He went on to attend Ripon College in Wisconsin, where he battled depression. "I was a little lost," he revealed at the 2026 Actor Awards. "I was failing at school. I felt isolated, alone." But everything changed after he accidentally signed up for a drama class. "I found the company of people putting on plays," he said. "Storytellers—people I once thought were misfits and geeks—turned out to be my people."

In 1964, the aspiring actor moved to Hollywood seeking out a voiceover role. He didn't get the part, but stayed in town anyway. A short time later, he signed a contract with Columbia Pictures for $150 a week—a dream come true for any young actor. But it would soon become a nightmare after a studio executive told him, "You have no future in this business."

Instead of quitting, the future Indiana Jones continued auditioning. But because he had a wife and two young sons to support, he needed a way to keep the lights on between roles. So Ford checked out carpentry books from a local library and taught himself the trade. "Through carpentry, I fed my family and began to pick and choose from among the roles offered," he explained during the press tour for 1986's The Mosquito Coast. He built doors and custom furniture for some of Hollywood's biggest names and eventually landed a small role as hot-rodder Bob Falfa in 1973's American Graffiti—directed byGeorge Lucas.

A lot of people think that's how he landed the role of Han Solo in Star Wars, but they're wrong. In 1975, Ford was finishing up a carpentry job at Francis Ford Coppola's office when Lucas walked in to audition actors for his upcoming film. However, the director was adamant that he only wanted brand new faces and asked Ford to simply read with the actors during their auditions.

But instead of staying focused on these hopeful actors, Lucas found himself captivated by the way Ford read Han Solo's dialogue. He embodied everything the legendary director envisioned for the role and Lucas realized he was actually perfect for the part! The rest—as they say—is Hollywood history. Five Star Warsfilms were followed by another massive hit franchise—Indiana Jones—and then came more movie magic with The Fugitive, Air Force One and Blade Runner.

But after so many decades as a leading man on the big screen, Ford made a change he never saw coming: He read the script for a new Apple TV comedy called Shrinking and decided to go after the role. "I had never done anything like this before," he said during a 2023 SAG-AFTRA panel. "And it was like suddenly recognizing what I've always wanted acting to be." At 83, Ford earned his first-ever Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Dr. Paul Rhoades—a therapist with Parkinson's disease—on the hit series. 52 years ago today, on April 13, 1974, Elton John scored his second No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with the piano-driven classic “Bennie and the Jets.” Appearing on his double-album Goodbye Yellow BrickRoad, which dropped a year prior, the tune features a unique live sound, despite it being recorded in a studio in France.

The Lyrics

Written alongside friend and frequent collaborator Bernie Taupin, who had composed all of the lyrics on Goodbye Yellow BrickRoad, with John taking credit as the composer, the song paints a slightly futuristic picture of a fictional glam rock band called “Bennie and the Jets” that’s made up of androids, with a beautiful androgynous woman as their frontperson. 

Given from the perspective of a fan who obsesses over the group, the quirky lyrics transport listeners into an exaggerated and over-the-top world that plays with the idea of how fame is often admired.      

“Say, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet? / Ooh, but they're so spaced out, B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets / Oh but they're weird and they're wonderful / Oh Bennie she's really keen / She's got electric boots, a mohair suit / You know I read it in a magazine, ohh-oh / B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets,” John sings throughout the chorus of the song, showcasing his signature vocals and high falsetto.

Of its live sound, according toAmerican Songwriter, while in the recording studio, John had begun his piano chords early, making the recording imperfect to the point that producer Gus Dudgeon noticed its live-band feel. Dudgeon, then, went into the studio and added real-life crowd effects “taken from a 1972 John concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall and Jimi Hendrix’s 1970 Isle of Wight Festival performance, with whistles added from a live show in Vancouver, Canada.”

The Album

With its appearance on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, “Bennie and the Jets” played a role in the album’s commercial success as it went on to sell more than 20 million copies worldwide. Along with “Bennie and the Jets,” the 18-track collection includes singles, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and “Candle in the Wind.” 

In 2003, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and was later named one of the “Best Albums of All Time” by Rolling Stone.  Meanwhile, “Bennie and the Jets,” which belongs on Rolling Stone’s list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” followed, “Crocodile Rock,” John’s first No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

The current generation of film buffs might not know that Mel Gibson is Australian, and that his claim to fame came years before Lethal Weapon (1987).

On April 12, 1979, the original Mad Max film was released in the land Down Under, which means the post-apocalyptic classic just celebrated a 47-year milestone.

For those who haven't seen the groundbreaking movie yet, it centers on a not-too-distant future where man's most precious resource — oil — has been depleted and the world has thus plunged into war, famine and financial chaos. Law enforcement in Australia struggles to quell a vicious biker gang, and one of its officers Max (Gibson) launches a personal vendetta against the gang when his wife and son are hunted down and murdered.

As fans of George Miller's iconic franchise are well aware, the action flick would ultimately spawn three sequels, one of which co-starred the late, great Tina Turner and the latest having hit U.S. theaters in 2015.

Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Mad Max: Fury Road was both a critical and commercial success, going on to receive a whopping 10 Academy Award nominations. It won for:

• Best Makeup and Hairstyling
• Best Sound Mixing
• Best Sound Editing

Fury Road also won the prestigious honor of Best Film by the National Board of Review that year. And in 2025, Collider was so bold as to name it the "best action movie of all time" due to its judicious use of CGI, nonstop action sequences and more.

And going back to Gibson-led classics, Lethal Weapon actually celebrated 39 years since its release last month. Directed by Richard Donner and written by Shane Black, the film paired two very different detectives: reckless loose cannon Martin Riggs (Gibson) and seasoned family man Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover).

On this day in music history, one of the most successful charity singles ever written rose to the top of the music charts.

Exactly 41 years ago on April 13, 1985, "We Are the World" by USA for Africa, reached the summit of the BillboardHot 100, where it stayed for four straight weeks. It became the fastest-selling pop single in history at the time, and was the first song to be certified multi-Platinum by the RIAA.

"We Are the World," was recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa, made up of over 20 of the biggest stars in music, with the hope of raising funds for famine relief in Africa. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones, the song was recorded in January 1985, and soon became an anthem of unity and hope across the globe.

It featured solos from a wide range of the industry's superstars, including Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Warwick and many, many others.

Released on March 28, 1985, the song took less than a month to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, sold over seven million copies and raised more than $80 million to support humanitarian efforts across Africa.

The following year, "We Are the World" was nominated for four Grammy Awards at the 1986 ceremony. It won in all four categories it was nominated, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Performance by a Group and Best Music Video.

On the 25th anniversary of "We Are the World" in 2010, more industry icons remade a new version of the iconic track to raise money for earthquake relief in Haiti. Recorded after the death of Jackson, they kept his original chorus in the song, adding in layered vocals from his sister,Janet Jackson.

The remake also featured returning artists like Wonder, Warwick, and Richie, plus a wide variety of other artists, ranging from Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus to Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand. Other singers who contributed to the 2010 track include Jamie Foxx, Pink, Tony Bennett, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and many more.

Love on the Spectrum fans are feeling the heartbreak after learning that Abbey Romeo, 27, and David Isaacman, 31, have reportedly gone their separate ways. But that hasn't stopped Abbey from living her best life hitting up waterpark rides.

The couple, who became one of the most adored pairs on the Netflix series, captured audiences with their genuine connection, thoughtful communication, and shared sense of humor. "Sadly, it's true that David and Abbey broke up," a source close to the couple told The US Sun. "They couldn't come to an agreement on when to get married. She was ready years ago; he still needed time."

But the best part of the trip? Visiting her favorite waterpark—Dreamworks at the American Dream Mall.

Fans are happy to see that Abbey is seemingly doing well after her breakup with David.

It became clear in the final episode of the latest Season 4—during Madison and Tyler's engagement party—that Abbey is excited to become a bride herself someday. Whether you were a big fan of the '80s fantasy series Beauty and the Beast or you couldn't look away from Kurt Sutter's Sons of Anarchy in the early aughts, you know who Ron Perlman is. The actor turns 76 on April 13, 2026, and his career is one of those rare Hollywood journeys that doesn’t follow a straight line.

Moreover, the outlet also emphasized its similarity to a slasher movie due to its gruesome and violent depictions of brutality and murder.

The movie follows the story of barber Benjamin Barker (Johnny Depp), who was wrongfully imprisoned for 15 years.

Following his release, he sought his revenge and returned under the alias Sweeney Todd. He then teamed up with baker Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), who turns his victims into meat pies.

The 2007 movie also pushed Depp to expand his acting range as he took on the challenge of singing.

The A-lister, who was initially terrified of singing and never did it professionally, revealed that he didn't go through a strict method or anything extraordinary to prepare for the role.

A song recorded in 1974 earned global recognition as one of the greatest songs ever made, cementing its place as a timeless anthem of hope and resilience. 

“No Woman, No Cry” by Bob Marley & the Wailers continues to resonate decades later, thanks in large part to its powerful live version that critics and fans still celebrate today.

The track, originally released on the 1974 album Natty Dread, gained even greater fame through its 1975 live recording at London’s Lyceum Theatre. That version, widely considered superior to the studio cut, was ranked No. 37 on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list.

“No Woman, No Cry” is more than just a hit song; it is one of the most iconic tracks in reggae history. Performed by Bob Marley & the Wailers, the song helped bring reggae music from Jamaica to a global audience. Its message of comfort during hardship struck a chord with listeners around the world.

While Coachella brings the party to Indio, Calif., Crumbl is bringing the festivities closer to home with their first weekend of “Cookiechella.”

Crumbl has unveiled a new dessert that will be available from April 13-18 to celebrate the music festival. According to their Instagram, their new Confetti Cake Batter Cheesecake is “a cake batter cheesecake studded with confetti sprinkles layered on a crunchy golden crust and topped with fresh whipped cream and more confetti sprinkles.”

The festive dessert comes alongside Crumbl’s returning Cookies & Cream Milkshake Cookie featuring Mini Oreo, Chocolate Cupcake Cookie, and Sugar Cookie featuring Mother’s Circus Animal. The dessert chain has also added a S’mores Cookie Thin to its menu, only available on Thursday.

Last week, Crumbl introduced its new Dubai-Style Chocolate Sandwich cookie, which was available from April 6-11. With two thin, crispy, chewy chocolate cookies sandwiched with a layer of pistachio and Kataifi filling, fans couldn’t get enough of the dessert.

“Bring dubai back please,” one user commented on Crumbl’s Instagram post.

Another user complained about this week’s menu being too bland, while others are excited about the Cookiechella theme.

“Just came back from Coachella,” one comment said. “Now ready for Cookiechella.”

A major announcement from The Cure is drawing attention ahead of this year’s Record Store Day and it’s not just about music. 

The legendary band revealed that two of their most celebrated collections will be released for the first time on 2LP silver bio vinyl, with proceeds from the sale supporting charity.

In a post shared by Universal Music Recordings on Instagram, fans were invited to celebrate the group’s legacy with Greatest Hits and Acoustic Hits. Frontman Robert Smith has newly remastered both collections and will feature some of the band’s most beloved tracks.

The announcement stands out as a first for the band: the release will be pressed on environmentally conscious silver bio vinyl. Even more notable, £1 from every sale will go directly to War Child, a group that supports children affected by war.

The move to bio vinyl marks a significant moment for The Cure, a band known for shaping alternative rock and gothic-inspired music since their formation in 1978. While they have released multiple albums and compilations over decades, this is the first time their music will be issued in this eco-friendly format.

The collections themselves highlight the group’s wide musical range. Tracks like “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Friday I’m In Love” remain fan favorites, representing different eras of the band’s sound, from post-punk roots to mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

While the new dessert no doubt sounds like a dream come true for most fans, it's worth mentioning that there's no current word on whether the flavor is a limited-time seasonal offering or a permanent addition to Rice Krispies Treats' lineup. With that in mind, fans might want to get their hands on the new treats sooner than later just to be safe!

Fans were beyond excited to hear their favorite singer Justin Bieber would be headlining the second night at Coachella 2026. However, his sparse performance on Saturday night, a large part of which consisted him singing along with his own YouTube videos, has left Bieber fans, festival-goers and music reviewers divided.

Similar to his 2026 Grammy Awards performance, Bieber's 2026 Coachella set was very low-fi, no choreography, no big production. Instead, Bieber kept things chill, almost off the cuff at times, bringing a few special guests on stage to sing with him, and leaning mostly into tracks from his 2025 albums, Swag and Swag II.

Then, for a decent portion of the performance, he scrolled YouTube on his laptop and picked old-school Bieber fan favorite videos to be projected behind him on the big screen, and then he sang along with them. At times, he sang to them, almost like he was singing right to his younger self.

The feeling was much more like, "I'm hanging out reminiscing with my boy Justin Bieber in the garage" than "I paid over $500 for the musical performance of a lifetime." But then again, it did have a very familiar 2026 hyperactivity to it as well.

Rolling Stone called Bieber's set "messy." Entertainment Weekly called the performance "sleepy." Page Six used some fighting words, actually calling it "lazy." But many fans loved every minute of it. In fact, in the comments on social, one fan wrote: "It’s okay if you weren’t the target audience for this performance. I was & I had a blast 🔥"

And who, if anyone does Justin Bieber owe the most to anyway, if not his fans, and what exactly does he owe them?

Bieber, now 32, was discovered at age 13 in 2008. After releasing his debut My World album at age 15 in 2009, he quickly rose to teen idol status and became one of the youngest solo male artists to top charts. As he's publicly spoken about, he struggled with severe drug and alcohol use into his early 20s, as well as anxiety, depression, and other mental-health-related issues.

Like many young stars who got real big real fast, Bieber grew up publicly in front of a world who continued to expect more and more from him. He had to show up and sing, like it or not. And while we can talk about all the financial benefits that come becoming a mega-superstar at a young age, the shortfalls on your emotional stamina can be huge too.

So maybe this performance is exactly where Justin Bieber is right now. And maybe it's even a good place. Maybe it's a place of healing. He did seem to be enjoying himself.

Famed '90s folk-pop singer Jewel popped into the comment section to weigh in and say: "Like it’s inner child healing for him . This is a tough biz fr . He deserves the best❤️"
