If you’ve ever walked past a historic mansion and wondered what secrets are hidden behind its limestone walls, Chicago is about to give you a $50 million answer. Opening Saturday, April 18, the legendary McCormick Mansion on the Magnificent Mile has been completely reimagined as The Hand & The Eye, a 36,000-square-foot sanctuary dedicated to the golden age of "Chicago-style" magic.

This isn't a theater where you sit in a velvet chair and watch a stage from afar. Instead, the mansion invites guests into a series of intimate parlors, grand salons and hidden drawing rooms where the magic happens just inches from your face. "We’re creating a singular experience of wonder, where memories are made and magic is shared," says founder Glen Tullman. "You become a part of the magic."

The Hand and the Eye

The redesign was led by the world-renowned Rockwell Group, and the goal was to make the house itself feel alive. Because the evening is choreographed across multiple rooms, no two guests will have the exact same journey. You might start your night in a wood-paneled study with a world-class mentalist and end it in a grand ballroom witnessing a grand illusion. David Rockwell explains that by layering the past and present, the design creates an experience that is "immersive and intimate, bringing people together to share moments of wonder that can only happen in real time.”

To ensure the food is as impressive as the sleight of hand, the venue partnered with Levy Restaurants. This wasn't just a business move—Levy CEO Andy Lansing is a lifelong magician and collector himself. "Magic has fascinated me since I was a kid," Lansing says. That passion translates into a dining experience that feels like an invitation to an exclusive 1900s dinner party. As Executive Vice President Bre Smith puts it, back in the day, an invitation to the McCormick Mansion was something to be coveted, and they are "working to bring back that feeling.”

This is a "phones away, style on" kind of place. The Hand & The Eye enforces a "Dress with Elegance" policy to maintain the atmosphere of the Golden Age. While the experience is open to the public, it also offers a membership tier for those who want deeper access to the world of magic. Because of the intimate nature of the rooms, advanced reservations are strictly required—you can’t just wander in off Michigan Avenue.

The speedster saves the team before being hunted down and killed by Homelander in a brutal, full-circle callback to the series premiere.

Episode 2 picks up in the aftermath, repurposing A-Train’s death into a martyr narrative and falsely blaming Starlight. As Homelander expands his inner circle — even bringing Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) back into the fold — Butcher pushes forward with a dangerous weapon: The supe-killing virus first introduced in Gen V and later woven into The Boys Season 4. Now refined and ready for use, the virus becomes the center of a growing divide within the team, with some willing to deploy it no matter the cost and others insisting it be used only against the worst offenders, not the supes they still consider allies.

That tension spills into a chaotic mission involving a group of influencer-style supes, where an attempt to test the virus goes sideways and leaves a trail of destruction, including what appears to be the deaths of Soldier Boy and the nearly indestructible Rock Hard, a hulking, volcanic figure who looks like Spaceballs’ Pizza the Hutt and sounds like Stephen Hawking. 

With new players like the enigmatic Oh Father (Daveed Diggs) entering the fold — and even stranger developments, including a shocking mutation tied to Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) — the series is already blurring the lines between chaos and control as it moves toward its final act. 

Showrunner Eric Kripke spoke exclusively with Parade about the two-episode opener, unpacking the premiere’s biggest swings, the evolution of a key character and why A-Train’s run had reached the end of the line.

Viewers are expecting a high body count this season. Why was A-Train the right character to open with, and what made his ending feel like the right one for the story?
I think it was important to kill someone really crucial and important in Episode 1 to really prove that no one was safe. And A-Train just had such a great redemption arc. In the first five minutes of the pilot, he's the villain of the show. He's the one who sets the whole story in motion. And then here we are in the first episode of Season 5. And the reason he gets caught is because he refuses to run through a woman. So I think it was time to bring his story full circle as a hero.

Worm (Ely Henry) is such a bizarre, very specific character — a TV writer eating dirt to break into a prison. Was he inspired by anyone you know? And be honest… do you have a Reacher spec script tucked away somewhere?
[Laughs.] He was inspired by every single person in that writer's room, myself included. We love The Worm because all of his issues are really the issues that writers talk about behind closed doors, and he really is the voice of the writers in the show. I mean, look, we're all reasonably anxious about the finale, and so it really helped as a pressure valve to have a writer in the show saying, "Yeah, finales are really hard. They suck." It's really hard to do, and a lot of them really are not very good. And it helped us process our anxiety.

There’s a lot going on in these episodes, but I have to ask about Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) finally speaking. How much fun has it been to write for her in a new way, especially with a line like, “Your skin is so oily, like hugging a McRib”?
It was a blast. Karen is such a good actor, and I was so looking forward to really giving her some lines. I remember they were wiring her with a microphone in Season 5, and she was like, "Wait, what are you doing?" And we're like, "Yeah, no, we actually need to put a microphone on you now because you're actually going to be speaking." And so that was just a blast. But I will say finding Kimiko's verbal voice was a process. And it actually was really hard and tricky because she had a very clear voice and persona as somebody who didn't speak, but now that she could, what did she sound like? What words could she use? What was her internal monologue the last four years that she's talking to Frenchie that she could now finally say out loud? And that took a little bit of trial and error.

At one point, we were writing her like a teenage girl, and we're like, "That doesn't feel right." And then we said, "Okay, well then she's just going to speak really rapid fire and then that didn't feel right." And so we really landed on this, what I think ended up feeling right, which is that she's just really funny and sardonic and dark. We asked ourselves, "What emotions did we feel about Kimiko before she could speak?" And we're like, "Well, she was sweet, but also super violent and scary and dark, but also kind of funny." And we said, "Well, let's write her like that." And I think that ended up being the key.

The song that launched The Supremes into stardom is just over six decades old today.

"Where Did Our Love Go," which was recorded on April 8, 1964, became the group's first No. 1 single and solidified them as a household name in not only the Motown scene, but in mainstream music as well.

The group, was originally comprised of Diana Rossas the lead singer with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson on background vocals.

According to Billboard.com, "Where Did Our Love Go" charted in July, a few months after it was recorded and remained on the chart for six weeks and ultimately hit No. 1—they're first song to do so. In a 2014 interview, Wilson talked about how the song's success opened doors for them that were unimaginable at the time.

"We were still living in the projects," she said. “'Where Did Our Love Go' was released in summer, when you could hear music outside in the neighborhood. We tuned in to every radio station, including CKLW. Hearing it on the radio for the first time was big for us even though we didn’t like the song. It was infectious."

The song's success was a longtime coming as the group's previous releases weren't quite hits. Per Wilson, it wasn't until the women worked with producers Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland, after working with Motown icon Berry Gordy, that the song came along.

"If we didn’t get a hit, our parents were going to make us go to college," Wilson recalled. "I went to [Holland] and I cried. I told him, 'You don’t understand, we’ve got to get a hit record right now.' He said, 'Don’t worry, trust us, this is going to be a smash.'”

After the success of "Where Did Our Love Go" the singers went on to release "Baby Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love."

The group's momentum led them to be known as "Motown's Supremes."

"We helped put Motown on the map," Wilson said, mentioning that thanks to their additional success in the U.K., "We were taking pictures with royalty and hanging out with the Rolling Stones."

Lucy Halliday, a 21-year-old Paisley-born actress who took home a Scottish BAFTA for her breakout role in 2022's Blue Jean, stars opposite Chase Infiniti as Daisy in The Testaments.

The newcomer — who also appeared in the 2025 James McAvoy-directed musical drama California Schemin' — shared with Awards Buzz how daunting it was to lead a new chapter of the Handmaid's universe. “Coming into this, we definitely felt a responsibility. The Handmaid’s Tale was so beloved and it had such a strong fan base, and it was prolific in enacting real impact in society that we, neither one of us, wanted to be the cog in the machine that screwed it up and then everyone was like, ugh, you’ve ruined it," Halliday told the outlet.

"We really did everything that we could to prepare for it," Halliday added. "We read the books, watched the show, spoke to everyone who would speak to us, and I think we just wanted to be as prepared as possible because we wanted to do this well, and we wanted to do it justice. It’s so great getting to step into this world.”

Ann Dowd will be familiar to all who previously tuned in to The Handmaid's Tale — the 70-year-old actress famously portrayed devoted Gilead enforcer Aunt Lydia Clements throughout all six seasons of that series and reprises the role in The Testaments. Dowd won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the role and scored another two nods.

Beyond the world of Gilead, Dowd is known for her work in HBO's The Leftovers, for which she took home yet another Emmy, as well as films including Lorenzo's Oil, Philadelphia, Garden State, The Manchurian Candidate, Compliance, Hereditary and Mass, among others.

Though younger than many of her The Testaments castmates, 19-year-old Mattea Conforti already has a sizable CV to her name, starting out onstage in Matilda the Musical in 2015 and making her film debut that same year in 3 Generations. On Broadway, she originated the role of Young Anna in the stage production of Frozen (she would go on to voice Young Elsa in the film sequel Frozen 2) and played Louise in the 2017 revival of Sunday in the Park with George.

Conforti's screen credits include Power, The Super, Viper Club and, of course, The Testaments; she plays Becka Grove, a close friend and classmate of Chase Infiniti's Agnes MacKenzie. Unlike her many schoolmates, Becka's father is not a Commander but a dentist.

But I didn’t want to go for the arch-villain archetype."

Modern audiences might know the versatile Robin Wright best as Claire Underwood from Netflix's House of Cards. Plus, there was Forrest Gump, which also came after Rob Reiner's fairy-tale masterpiece from 1987.

The Princess Bride may always be Wright's claim to fame, but the Emmy nominee is still keeping quite busy in Hollywood as she turns 60 on Wednesday, April 8.

Prime Video subscribers had a ball watching her juicy turn in the miniseries The Girlfriend last year, for example. And the year prior, Wright reunited with Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis for the film Here, released amid the 30th anniversary of Forrest Gump.

On that note, certain generations may see Wright's radiant visage and want to cry out, "Jenny!" The classic 1994 film that brought Hanks, 69, his second consecutive Oscar also spotlighted Wright's continued ability to portray complex and flawed characters.

Seven years earlier, Wright's love interest on-screen was Cary Elwes in The Princess Bride. Directed by Reiner, who died last year at age 78, the cheeky film perfectly blended genres such as fantasy, comedy and straight-up romance. "I love being in this country. There's a freedom of self here. People are so kind," Wright said in an article published Wednesday. "They're living. They're not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That's most of America. Everything's rush, competition and speed."

Wright continued, "I'm turning 60 and I'm, like, 'Is this it?' I love being alone and I've done that many times. But I'm, like, I want to grow old with somebody, and travel and see the world."

Entertainment Tonight has revealed that Jack Innanen, known for his role as Paul Baker in FX’s Adults, has been in talks about the possibility of joining the second season of Heated Rivalry.

Released on Crave in late 2025, Heated Rivalry is based on the book of the same name by Rachel Reid. Following the budding romance between two hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, the show has been met with rave reviews and recently won an award for Outstanding New TV Series at the 37th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. With season two on the horizon, Entertainment Tonight spoke with Innanen about his love for the show.

“We’ve seen all of your posts about Heated Rivalry, and I have to ask you, why are you perfect for the show?” Entertainment Tonight asked Innanen at the premiere of Netflix’s Big Mistakes. Innanen said he thinks he’s perfect for the show because he’s “down for anything.”

“And I played hockey,” Innanen said. “I’ve been working on my hip mobility.”

When asked if he’s heard from showrunner Jacob Tierney or any of the other cast, Innanen said, “I’ve had some conversations. We’ve chatted.”

Entertainment Tonight followed up on this, asking if he’s booked. Innanen responded by zipping his lips and said, “Who knows?”

Entertainment Tonight theorized that there are two characters Innanen would most likely play: “Troy Barrett, who plays with Ilya on the Ottawa Centaurs and is the main character in Role Model, which is about his romance with social media manager Harris Drover⁠,” or “Wyatt Hayes, who is the Centaurs' goalie and a vocal ally to the queer players in the league⁠.”

Entertainment Tonight also posted a screenshot on Instagram, revealing that Tierney is following Innanen on the social media platform. Tierney hasn’t commented yet on whether or not Innanen is confirmed for the Season Two cast.

While an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet, Heated Rivalry has targeted an April 2027 release, with filming beginning around August 2026. Tierney recently said, “There will be more Heated Rivalry truly as soon as humanly possible.” In the meantime, watch Entertainment Tonight’s interview with Innanen below:

Summer House star Ciara Miller got actress Sydney Sweeney’s shady hot take on what the “next step” should be if your friend hooks up with your ex-boyfriend.

While working the red carpet for the Euphoria Season 3 premiere, Miller stopped Sweeney for an interview and asked, “If you steal your friend’s ex-boyfriend…” Sweeney visibly cringed as Miller added, “It’s not good.”

Summer House viewers are currently watching season 10, which filmed last summer, where Wilson is seemingly wanting to get back together with Miller, which makes the latest bombshell even more explosive.

Obviously, Miller agreed while looking fierce on the red carpet in a middrift baring black dress. Meanwhile, actress Hunter Schafer fangirled over meeting Miller on the red carpet, sharing that she just started watching Summer House three weeks ago. "Wow, that's so crazy!" Schafer exclaimed over meeting Miller.

Miller hasn't been shy about teasing her personal drama into her interviews. While working the red carpet for Apple+'s Your Friends and Neighbors, she told Jon Hamm she's been better when he asked how she was doing. During his appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Hamm was pretty direct when it came to whose team he was on.

At the time of the interview, he had no idea that the drama was brewing. "I had no idea of what was to be revealed," he said, adding, "Team Ciara for sure."

For literal centuries, generations across the globe have heard the now classic fairy tale of Cinderella and her eventful ascent from grief-stricken poverty to becoming the magical princess of her medieval kingdom.

As many different versions of Cinderella as audiences have seen over the years, the basic formula remains the same, permanently attaching itself to Cinderella's point of view, following her rise from lowly chamber maid into the happily-married princess of her dreams.

With Rachel Hockhauser's new novel Lady Tremaine, however, the author reorients the traditional Cinderella narrative from the main villain's perspective, focusing on her own personal struggles as a single mother to three financially struggling children.

"If you really think about the evil stepmother, she's been widowed twice over. She's had a lot of loss in her life," Hockhauser said. "And so it made it easy to to put myself in her shoes and and think about what it feels like when your life looks so different than what you had signed up for."

Appearing on a recent episode of Bookmarked by Reese's Book Club, Hockhauser explained her desire to bring a more sympathetic treatment to the title character of the book, an antagonist who's often characterized by her cold, abusive, emotionally distant relationship to Cinderella.

"I just I had a really clear picture of her her voice, this house she was living in that she had stripped, sold her belongings and her jewels so that she could keep running her household," Hockhauser explained on Bookmarked.

Through the book's narrative, Hockhauser also sought to explore how her perspective on marriage has changed significantly since reading Cinderella when she was young. While the fairy tale famously ends with the traditional "they all lived happily ever after" motif marked by Cinderella and her prince's wedding, Hockhauser wanted to focus on how marriage itself often marks the start of a whole new story, rather than the end of an old one.

"All the confluence of all these things made me feel like, let's do a new version of the fairy tale, the one that I wish I had had and one that I'm really happy to give to my daughters," the author explained.

There are some books and shows that sit with us for a long time, and Pretty Little Liars was certainly one of them. The Freeform series was based on the novels by Sara Shepard, and today is the best day to celebrate. April 8 is her birthday, and she turns 49 today!

If it weren't for Shepard, we wouldn’t have had the twisty story of A. Sure, things in the TV show went off-book, but that adds to the fun. There’s a chance to delve into the world of the novels to see how this bestselling author envisioned it all!

About the Author Sara Shepard

Shepard grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she currently still lives. In 1999, she graduated with a B.S. degree from New York University, and then she went on to Brooklyn College, where she graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing in 2004.

Writing has always been in her blood. From 2002, she started freelancing as a ghostwriter, and she worked in publishing, but it wasn’t until 2005 that she started working on her own novels. Within a year, she had the first of the Pretty Little Liars novels published, starting with the titular title. We were quickly introduced to Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna, all with secrets of their own to hide, along with a huge one involving their friend Allison, who went missing years earlier.

Shepard would go on to publish one to two books a year, jumping between the Liars series and The Lying Game series. The second series would follow different characters and was set in a new universe, but it held the same twists and turns that Liars did.

Transforming from Book to Screen

Shepard’s fame rose after the release of Pretty Little Liarson Freeform. Sure, there were changes, but fans were eager for more of A’s story.

It wasn’t surprising then to see that The Lying Game was then adapted by Freeform. Then The Perfectionists was loosely adapted into a Pretty Little Liars spinoff, although it didn’t quite have the same interest as its former series. 

Shepard has gone on to write other worlds and stories, with The Heiresses, which was her adult novel debut, being one that was originally picked up by ABC. It hasn’t been turned into a series yet, but there is hope that in the future it could happen.

There's no clearer sign that a woman is done with you, than when she advises you to call up a friend to help you gather your belongings and hit the door. Let's just say, that message was effectively communicated in Erykah Badu's "Tyrone."

The late-'90s hit was ranked among Rolling Stone's Greatest Songs of All Time, and with lyrics so blunt, it's clear to see why it became the ultimate breakup anthem. In 2021, she explained that the song, which she refers to as her "most popular hit," was birthed on the spot. "I was onstage and my keyboard player, Norman 'Keys' Hurt, starts playing the melody from rehearsal, and I was like, 'OK.' And call Tyrone was born on that stage," the "Window Seat" songstress told The FADER Uncovered podcast host Mark Ronson at the time.

"And the recording was in the actual live recording that went viral — if there's such a thing as viral for radio at that time — but it just kind of went viral. And I ended up recording a studio version of it, which is no match for the original," Badu continued. "It was an inside joke kind of song which, ironically, becomes my most popular hit."

Why the Catacombs Were Shut Down

The Catacombs closed in November 2025 for a five-month renovation project aimed at preserving both the structure and the human remains.  Over time, the tunnels had begun to deteriorate due to humidity, water seepage, and general wear.

Beyond structural concerns, the ossuary itself was also at risk. Moisture and other conditions were contributing to the slow decay of bones, some even forming stalactite-like deposits due to mineral buildup. 

In short, the closure wasn’t cosmetic; it was necessary to protect a fragile, centuries-old site that continues to attract thousands of visitors daily.

What’s New After the Reopening

Now reopened in spring 2026, the Catacombs have undergone a significant transformation, modernizing the experience while restoring its original purpose: reflection on mortality.

One of the biggest changes is improved environmental control. New systems regulate temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels, helping preserve the bones and improve visitor safety.

Lighting has also been completely revamped. Instead of harsh or inconsistent illumination, the tunnels now feature carefully designed lighting that highlights inscriptions and bone arrangements while maintaining the eerie ambiance.

Visitors will also notice a more curated route. The layout has been refined to improve flow and reduce congestion, while new audio guides, complete with subtle background music, help contextualize the experience and ease the psychological intensity of walking through corridors lined with skulls. Perhaps most notably, the site is shifting away from its reputation as a “dark tourist attraction” and toward something more respectful.

The actress, 66, became an '80s icon in Risky Business, a beloved coming-of-age film that followed Cruise as Joel Goodson, a high school student who turns his parents' home into a brothel with the help of a sex worker named Lana to get the money to fix his father’s Porsche, which sank to the bottom of Lake Michigan. Her Romance with Tom Cruise

While De Mornay and Cruise had major chemistry on the big screen, many fans don’t remember that she dated the Hollywood icon for three years.

In an interview with Page Six last year, the actress opened up about her relationship with the legendary film star.

“I’m really proud of him,” De Mornay shared. “I’m really, really proud of him.”

Cruise’s career continued to skyrocket after their relationship ended.

“He’s like, ‘I am Top Gun, and that’s what America really wanted, and so he’s fulfilled it,” De Mornay recalled. “He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is. A thriller based on the novel Clare at 16 by Don Roff, it tells the story of a female serial killer and is currently available for streaming. De Mornay is currently appearing in an Off-Broadway play by John Patrick Shanley titled "The Pushover" at The Chain Theatre in New York City. Born into one of the most iconic legacies in music history, Julian Lennon, the son of the late John Lennon of The Beatles, has long lived in the shadow of his famous father while steadily carving out a legacy of his own.

Over the years, he was able to build a name defined by his own purpose, talent and creative pursuits outside music.

As he turns 63 today, his story continues to unfold beyond the shadow of his legendary father.

Born on April 8, 1963, his mother was Cynthia Lennon, the first wife of the music icon. He was born during the rise of Beatlemania and, because of this, was exposed to public attention at a very young age.

Although his mother sought to keep his life as private as possible, shielding him from the public eye, it was almost impossible to give her son a sense of normalcy due to the huge craze surrounding the band.

While the British rock band would often travel on tour, Julian Lennon had a memorable childhood growing up in Kenwood, a mock-Tudor mansion in Weybridge, Surrey.

In an interview with the Financial Times, he recalled a notable moment from his childhood at home.

“A birthday party — either my third or my fifth, I’m not sure — at a house called Kenwood, in Weybridge, Surrey,” he told the outlet. “There’s a picture of dad [John Lennon] at Kenwood, holding an old hoe, and mum [Cynthia Lennon], with her hair all bouffed, and me. I remember my cake was a steam train. I wanted to be a train driver. I loved Saturday morning TV shows, and I fell in love with [train engineer] Casey Jones. He was always solving something.”

Unlike regular kids, the household that he grew up in would welcome famous guests, including George Harrison and his wife Pattie Boyd, who would frequently visit their home, as well as fellow band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who had a special bond with the young Julian.

Unfortunately, a once-happy family was torn apart after John Lennon and Cynthia Lennon’s marriage ended in 1968 following his relationship with Yoko Ono.

To comfort the then five-year-old boy, Paul McCartney wrote the now iconic Beatles song “Hey Jude” as a way to offer emotional support amid his parents' divorce.

"Understanding how breakfast can affect heart health is important," states Dr. Lars Sondergaard, MD, a cardiologist and the chief medical officer and the divisional vice president of Abbott's structural heart division. "It allows you to actively choose foods that reduce risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and inflammation, rather than contributing to them."

He adds that this knowledge can help you adopt simple daily habits that lower your long-term risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

"Regular breakfast consumption is a powerful preventive measure by stabilizing metabolism, improving nutrient intake and managing key heart disease risk factors," Dr. Sondergaard says.

He also points out that skipping the first meal of the day is linked to obesity, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and poor cholesterol levels. Another cardiologist agrees—breakfast is an important meal to eat each day.

"Breakfast sets the tone for the day," says Dr. Karishma Patwa, MD, a cardiologist with Manhattan Cardiology in NYC and labfinder.com contributor. "Choosing a heart-healthy breakfast allows you to start your day off right. Over time, this influences long-term blood sugar and cholesterol levels."

That said, some breakfasts are better than others. For instance, cardiologists generally leave red and processed meats off their menus.

Three cardiologists agree that steel-cut or rolled oats with berries and topped with Greek yogurt is one of the best heart-healthy breakfasts you can eat.

Dr. Kee describes fiber-filled oats as a "gold standard for cardiovascular health, and berries as "colorful powerhouses" of antioxidants. He loves low-fat or fat-free Greek yogurt for its protein and probiotics, which support appetite and metabolic health.

Below, cardiologists dug into each component of their top pick for breakfasts for heart health.

Rolled or steel-cut oats can lower cholesterol and blood sugar

"Both steel-cut and rolled oats are great for heart health because they are made from the same whole grain, retaining the nutrient-rich bran, germ and endosperm," Dr. Sondergaard says.

He points to the beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that forms a gel-like substance. He explains that beta-glucan binds to cholesterol and bile acids, preventing them from entering your bloodstream.

"This effectively lowers your LDL—'bad'—cholesterol levels by preventing plaque buildup in your arteries," Dr. Sondergaard says. "That same gel-like consistency also slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. This means a more gradual release of glucose into your bloodstream, which helps keep blood sugar levels steady."

Stable blood sugar is crucial for overall cardiovascular health and reducing the risk factors associated with heart disease. "Oats also contain unique antioxidants called avenanthramides, which help reduce chronic inflammation, a major driver of arterial plaque buildup," he adds.

Berries are the bee's knees for heart health

Mother Nature's candy sure does provide sweet benefits to your cardiovascular system.

"Berries are packed with micronutrients, including vitamins and antioxidants," Dr. Patwa says. "They also contain a considerable amount of fiber. Over time, this lowers inflammation and improves blood vessel function, which can reduce the risk of high blood pressure and cardiac events."

Greek yogurt is a sneaky-good food for the heart

We often think of probiotics in Greek yogurt as beneficial for the gut, and that's true—but they also benefit the heart. Dr. Sondergaard encourages people to think about the "heart-gut axis."

"A healthy gut microbiome, fostered by probiotics, is linked to reduced systemic inflammation," he says. "Chronic inflammation is a known contributor to atherosclerosis—the hardening of the arteries—and other heart issues."

He adds that some probiotic strains may help lower LDL cholesterol by "influencing its absorption and metabolism in the gut." What's more, Greek yogurt contains protein (which helps regulate your appetite and weight) and blood-pressure-regulating minerals (calcium and magnesium).

Dr. Sondergaard says this breakfast is a great balance of healthy fats avocados), protein (eggs) and complex carbs (whole-grain toast). Combined, they help stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure and improve satiety and weight management. Your taste buds won't complain either.

2. Chia seed pudding with walnuts

Dr. Sondergaard says that this breakfast is versatile, which is why it's one of his favorites. "It requires minimal effort and provides an omega-3 powerhouse that supports heart rhythm and blood flow," he says.

Chia seeds and walnuts are plant-based sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid that can help "reduce inflammation, lower triglyceride levels and may even gently lower blood pressure."

"Beyond that, chia seeds are exceptionally rich in soluble and insoluble fiber, providing similar benefits to oats in terms of cholesterol reduction and blood sugar stability," Dr. Sondergaard explains. "Their ability to absorb liquid and form a gel not only makes for a satisfying pudding but also contributes to that crucial gut-healing, cholesterol-binding action."
