52 Years Ago Today, '50s Legend Won His First Oscars in a Leading Role
Jack Lemmon, the legendary Hollywood star, marked a pivotal milestone 52 years ago today.
Having appeared in over 60 films, Lemmon made his big-screen debut in the 1949 movie The Lady Takes a Sailor, where he played a minor role.
He made several iconic films in collaborations with Billy Wilder, appearing in iconic films such as Some Like It Hot and The Apartment.
Yet, despite his string of hits across comedies and intense dramas, it was the John G. Avildsen-directed film that became a turning point in his career.
In the 1973 classic Save the Tiger, Lemmon portrayed Harry Stoner, a middle-aged garment manufacturer grappling with PTSD after serving as a World War II veteran. He was joined by Jack Gilford as Stoner’s longtime friend and business partner Phil Greene and Laurie Heineman as Myra, a free-spirited hippie Stoner meets along the way.
Unlike his earlier film Mister Roberts, which was a box office hit, Save the Tiger received a more muted response from the public. Still, it earned Lemmon his first Oscar for Best Actor.
At the 46th Academy Awards, he triumphed over fellow nominees Marlon Brando (Last Tango in Paris), Jack Nicholson (The Last Detail), Al Pacino (Serpico) and Robert Redford (The Sting).
Jack Lemmon holds his Oscar after being named the best actor of the year at the 46th annual Academy Awards presentations.During his acceptance speech, Lemmon humorously noted that he had prepared a speech long ago, way back in 1959.
“I've forgotten it,” he joked, before thanking the film’s team and his family.
“If I took the time to thank all of the people, very honestly, that are responsible for this award we'd be here much too long. But naturally, to Marty Ransohoff, and Filmways and Paramount. I am deeply indebted for them letting us even make the film, because nobody wanted to let us make it. To Steve Shagan and John Avildsen. It would take much too much and much too long and I'll have to do it personally later.”
He also addressed the criticisms the award had faced in recent years, particularly accusations of "overacting," while emphasizing the honor of receiving it.
“I just want to say one more thing. In recent years especially there has been a great deal of criticism about this award. And probably a great deal of that criticism is very justified. I would just like to say that whether it's justified or not, I think it is one hell of an honor and I am thrilled. And I thank you all very, very much," he saud.
Before winning Best Actor, Lemmon had first received Oscar recognition for Best Supporting Actor for Mister Roberts, showcasing the range and enduring impact of his remarkable career.

22 Years Ago Today, This Rom-Com With a Cult Following Hit Theaters
On this day 22 years ago—April 2, 2004—the rom-com The Prince & Me starring Julia Stiles and Luke Mably officially hit theaters.
The Prince & Me followed the story of Paige Morgan (Stiles), a premed student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Eddie (Mably), a Danish exchange student who was actually a prince in disguise. There, the unlikely duo cross paths, and Paige ends up inviting Eddie to her family's dairy farm. Despite having little experience with domestic chores and the daily life of non-royals, he impresses Paige's family and starts to win her over, too.
Unfortunately, paparazzi snap photos of Eddie and Paige kissing back at the library at college, and his true identity is revealed—devastating Paige in the process because he lied. Eddie then learns that his father is gravely ill and has to return to Denmark. After realizing that she loves him, Paige follows him to Denmark and wins over his family, only to realize that marrying Eddie would mean she'd have to give up her career.
Paige ultimately graduates from college and opts to pursue her goal of joining Doctors Without Borders. Meanwhile, Eddie becomes king. However, he surprises Page at her graduation and promises to wait for her.
After its moderate success of $37 million worldwide at the box office, The Prince & Me inspired three direct-to-video sequels (and a moderate cult following). They included The Prince & Me 2: The Royal Wedding, The Prince & Me 3: A Royal Honeymoon and The Prince & Me 4: The Elephant Adventure. Stiles did not reprise her role in the sequels, as Kam Heskin took over the part of Paige. Mably starred in the second movie, but he was replaced by Chris Geere in the third and fourth films.
Critically, The Prince & Me was brushed off by many as bland and formulaic. Others, however, enjoyed its enemies-to-lovers plot and the solid chemistry between its actors.
During an interview with Regis Philban and Kelly Ripa, Stiles spoke about learning how to milk a cow while playing Paige in The Prince & Me.
"I did because I'm a New York City girl. I didn't know how to do any of that," she told Philban when he asked about milking cows. "So I went to the farm... and I felt so bad. They actually had my cow like save up all its milk so that when we had to film it, and I had to milk it, it was ready to go."

How Tori Kelly Created a 'Peaceful Retreat' for Her Baby's Nursery
In November, singer-songwriterTori Kelly and her husband, basketball player André Murillo, welcomed their first baby. "We love you so much, sweet boy," Kelly captioned an Instagram post announcing the birth of Zayden Michael Murillo.
And as Kelly prepared to give birth last year, she was also hard at work creating a cozy nursery for her child. The Grammy-winning musician partnered with Crate & Kids to design a tranquil, neutral-toned room for baby Zayden — and so far, it's been the perfect space for the family to enjoy "everyday moments" together," according to Kelly.

Tori Kelly Wanted a Peaceful, Neutral-Colored Baby NurseryCrate & Kids
Tori Kelly chose not to find out her baby's sex in advance, so she and her husband decided to lean into muted, earthy, neutral and gender-neutral shades for the nursery.
"We chose neutral colors to make the room feel serene and grounded. Plus it gave us flexibility since we didn’t know the baby’s gender," Kelly explained in a statement shared with Parade. "The neutral colors create this really soft environment that instantly makes you exhale when you walk in."
Crate & Kids

The nursery's color scheme ranges from soft whites to warm beiges, with varying wood tones throughout the space. There are also plenty of knit and muslin blankets in colors like white, tan, light blue and dusty rose.
"I love neutrals because they feel timeless," Kelly continued, adding that she "was drawn to timeless pieces and natural textures."

"The idea of building a 'nest' for our baby felt especially meaningful, and it’s even more personal because my name means 'bird' in Japanese," Kelly said.
On top of making the nursery feel like a cozy and calm nest for Zayden to land, Kelly also added some bird motifs throughout the space. Above the cozy corner chair is a mobile featuring white felt birds, and on the ceiling are decals of birds flying across the sky.
A cozy cloud-shaped pillow on the chair, a rattan moon on the wall and a plant on the bookcase also add to the room's nature-inspired feeling.
Tori Kelly Says the Nursery "Feels Lived-In in the Sweetest Way"Crate & Kids
Kelly knew what vibe she wanted to create in Zayden's nursery, and working with the Crate & Kids Design Desk helped bring her vision to life.
"I knew what I wanted the space to feel like, but my designer helped translate that into actual pieces, textures, and layout," Kelly explained. "My designer listened to my ideas and created something cohesive and elevated."

And Kelly and Murillo are thrilled with how the nursery turned out.
"It’s where so many of our little routines happen now — feeds, outfit changes, stretching on the mat," Kelly said. "I love how the room holds those everyday moments; it feels lived-in in the sweetest way."

Health Officials Are Warning Travelers to Avoid These Popular Hawaiian Beaches Right Now
If you’re dreaming of crystal-clear water and perfect beach days in Hawaii this spring, you may want to pause before diving in. Across multiple islands, recent storms have triggered widespread water-quality warnings, meaning some of Hawaii’s most beautiful beaches aren’t as safe as they look right now.
What’s Happening Right NowIn March 2026, heavy rains and storm systems led to multiple “brown water advisories” across Hawaii. These advisories have been issued on several islands, including Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and the Big Island.
A brown water advisory means exactly what it sounds like: ocean water turns murky or brown due to runoff flowing from land into the sea. That runoff can carry sediment, sewage, bacteria, chemicals, and debris, making swimming potentially unsafe.
In some areas, conditions have been serious enough to close beaches entirely. For example, parts of the Big Island, including South Kohala and North Kona, have seen full beach park closures due to contamination concerns.
@hawaiirightnowI couldn't believe how brown the water was at Waikiki today 03/28/28. Nearly a week after those Kona lows slammed Oʻahu, we’re now seeing what’s left behind… and it’s not just debris. That brown water hitting our beaches? It’s carrying bacteria, pollution, and everything washed down from upstream… including human and animal waste. Doctors are already treating people for skin infections, cuts, and irritation, especially those helping with cleanup. Some are even saying their skin started burning after exposure. And it’s not just on land… Scientists are now looking at what this runoff could do to our reefs… because everything flowing into the ocean doesn’t just disappear, it affects the fish, the coral, and the entire ecosystem we depend on. Officials have been saying to stay out of the water for at least 72 hours after heavy rain… but a lot of locals are saying use your eyes. All I gotta say is “If it’s brown, turn around!” 💩 Would you jump in this water? Let us know in the comments below. 👇🏼 #HawaiiRightNow #HawaiiLife #Hawaii #BrownWater #Waikiki
♬ original sound - Hawaii Right Now Why These Beaches Are Being AffectedThe main culprit is heavy rain. When storms hit Hawaii, water rushes down mountains and through urban areas, collecting pollutants along the way. This runoff eventually drains into the ocean, especially near stream mouths and coastal outlets.
One major example is the Ala Wai Canal on Oʻahu, which channels runoff from Honolulu directly into the ocean near Waikiki, often causing spikes in bacteria levels after rainfall. Other contributing factors include aging wastewater systems and thousands of cesspools across the islands, which can leak into coastal waters during storms.
The result? Even beaches that typically look pristine can temporarily become unsafe.
Related: Hawaii Becomes the First Destination to Win the Sustainability Leadership Award
Beaches and Areas to Be Cautious OfWhile advisories can change daily, several types of beaches are currently higher risk:
- West Hawaii (Big Island): South Kohala and North Kona shorelines have seen closures and advisories
- Kauaʻi: North and east shore areas like Hanalei, Kapaʻa, and Wailua have been impacted by runoff
- Oʻahu: Areas near Waikiki and the Ala Wai Canal, plus parts of the North Shore after storms
- Maui: Shorelines from Lahaina to Hookipa and other rain-affected areas
In general, any beach near a stream, harbor, or drainage outlet is more likely to experience contamination after heavy rain.
@jazhasclassThe brown water advisory for Oahu created a lot of questions so let’s talk about it. People tend to think that if the water is blue that it should be safe, but it technically doesn’t need to be “brown,” it could be low visibility (aka murky) and less clear. You might not even notice this if you aren’t used to the water here, and it looks different than what you are used to. So you can check brown water advisory on the DOH website or ask the lifeguards. The general rule is to stay out of the ocean for 48-72 hours after heavy rain, after the sun has been out. If the rain has been particularly bad, some locals will opt to wait a week. If you end up going out into the water, no judgement but know the risks. You are risking coming in contact with the contaminants that come from run off, sewage water, human and animal waste. You are also at higher risk for shark activity because they like to hunt in these conditions and may mistake you in lower visibility conditions. It’s all a risk when you get into the ocean, but calculated risks are best. Anything else you’d add? #brownwater #surf
♬ Could You Be Loved - Bob Marley & The Wailers What Makes “Brown Water” DangerousThe biggest concern isn’t just murky water, it’s what’s in it. Runoff can contain elevated levels of bacteria, such as enterococci, which come from human and animal waste and can cause illness.
Health officials warn that swimming in contaminated water can lead to infections, stomach illness, skin irritation, and more serious conditions, especially for children or those with weakened immune systems. Because these contaminants aren’t always visible, clear-looking water isn’t always safe immediately after storms.
How Long Should You Avoid the Water? It is recommended to stay out of the ocean for 48 to 72 hours after heavy rain, and longer if the water remains murky. Sunlight and calmer conditions help clear contamination over time, but it can vary depending on location and rainfall intensity.
What This Means for TravelersIf you’re visiting Hawaii right now, that doesn’t mean you should cancel your trip; it just means you should adjust your plans.
- First, check local advisories daily. Conditions can change quickly, and some beaches may be perfectly safe while others nearby are not.
- Second, be flexible. If your planned beach is under an advisory, consider heading to drier regions, such as leeward (west-facing) coasts, which tend to have cleaner water due to lower rainfall.
- Third, don’t ignore warning signs. Lifeguards and posted advisories are there for a reason, and entering contaminated water isn’t worth the risk.
Hawaii’s beaches are still some of the most beautiful in the world, but right now, some are best admired from the shore.
If you’re traveling this spring, stay informed, avoid murky water, and give the ocean time to recover after storms. Because in paradise, even the clearest waters can change quickly.
How to Score Disney D23 ‘Fan Superbowl’ Tickets Today Before a Total Sell-Out
If your idea of a perfect weekend involves a pair of mouse ears and a front-row seat for the next big Marvel, Pixar or Star Wars announcement, drop everything. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is officially returning to Anaheim from August 14–16, 2026, and the battle for tickets starts today, April 2.
This isn’t just a convention; it’s the "Super Bowl" of the Disney world, where the Anaheim Convention Center becomes a massive show floor and the Honda Center hosts the legendary evening showcases where Disney drops its biggest news of the year.
But here's a reality check for first-timers: getting inside is all about your membership tier and your timing. For 2026, ticket access is exclusive to D23 Gold Members.
Related: Disneyland’s ‘Highway in the Sky’ Just Went Dark—Here’s What It Means for Your Next Trip
View this post on InstagramPriority access for the Gold Essential, Choice and Complete plans kicks off at 10 a.m. PT, followed by all other Gold Members (including those on the complimentary Disney+ Perks plan) at 12 p.m. PT. If you aren't already a Gold Member, you’ll need to upgrade here immediately—General Members are sitting this one out, and there is no scheduled general public sale.
The "catch" with the D23 queue is that it’s a total random lottery. The countdown page opens 24 hours in advance, but arriving early doesn't actually improve your spot. When the clock strikes ten, the system assigns everyone a random place in line.
Related: Disneyland Is Dropping Its Most Frustrating Rule—And Fans Are Calling It a Total Game-Changer
The golden rule? Keep that browser window active. Opening the queue on multiple devices can actually void your spot, and with wait times likely exceeding an hour, you don't want to risk a "Technical Difficulties" screen. Once you’re in, you have exactly 10 minutes to check out before your cart expires.
Pricing for 2026 introduces a new "budget" entry point: the $49 Afternoon-Only Fan Pass, which gets you into the Convention Center after 4 p.m. For the full experience, the Ultimate Fan Pass (which includes those coveted Honda Center evening shows) starts at $99 for a single day or $297 for the full weekend.
If you're looking for the VIP "Preferred" experience—reserved floor seating and exclusive pin access—prepare to shell out between $1,299 and $2,599. It’s a major investment, but for the fan who wants to be in the room when the next "Disney Legend" is named, it’s the only place to be.

1977 Classic Rock Hit Fueled by Drugs & Drama Ranked ‘Perfect No-Skip’ Album
Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 masterpiece, Rumours, emerged from infidelity, divorces, and heavy drug use — and has been hailed as a “holy grail” record with not a single weak track, topping music journalist Eric Alper’s list of flawless albums.
Recorded amid intense personal turmoil amond the bandmates, Rumours still dominated the charts, spending 31 weeks at No. 1 and winning the Grammy for Album of the Year, earning its reputation as a no-skip “musical unicorn.”
View this post on InstagramBeginning with “Second Hand News” and “Dreams,” weaving through “Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain,” and ending with “Gold Dust Woman,” the album is a masterclass in consistency and emotion. “There isn’t a single ounce of fat on this thing,” Alper writes.
Even amid intra-band drama and tension, Rumours delivered four Top 10 hits, including “Dreams,” which reached No. 1. Singles from the album continue to chart decades later; Forbes reports “The Chain” recently climbed to No. 117 on the Billboard Global 200.
With new members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joining Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, and John McVie, Christine described in a 1977 Rolling Stone interview that the album was made despite, “Drama. Dra-ma,” with the inner chaos fueling creativity.
Rumours is ranked No. 7 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums. “It is a masterclass in tension and release. Sometimes, human misery is the best producer,” Alper adds — a reminder that great music can rise from the messiest moments.

Long Before Beyoncé, a Legendary Goth Band Paid Tribute to Dolly Parton and 'Jolene'
In October 1973, Dolly Parton released 'Jolene,' a spare, aching plea to a beautiful woman not to steal her husband. It hit No. 1 on the country charts, became one of the most-covered songs in history, and eventually landed at No. 63 on Rolling Stone's revised list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. What nobody expected was that a decade later, one of the darkest bands in British rock history would make that country classic part of their repertoire.
The Sisters of Mercy formed in Leeds, England in 1980, driven by Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx's desire to hear themselves on the radio. With Eldritch's bass-baritone at the center, a drum machine they called Doktor Avalanche keeping time, and a sound that drew equally from post-punk and American rock, they became the band that exemplified the goth look and the goth sound, the popularizers of the genre on a worldwide scale. Eldritch himself, for the record, has spent decades rejecting the goth label, reportedly joking that he has only to wear black socks to be called the demon overlord.
The Sisters covered 'Jolene' for the first time as early as 1983, and it became part of their live setlist again and again. The version most fans may know appeared in their David 'Kid' Jensen Session, recorded at Maida Vale on March 6, 1983 and broadcast on March 10, 1983. That session also featured original tracks 'Heartland,' 'Valentine,' and 'Burn', serious goth rock tracks.
The BBC Sessions collection also includes covers of the Stooges' '1969' and Hot Chocolate's 'Emma,' which tells you something about Eldritch's range of reference. He was not a man limited by genre boundaries. The 'Jolene' cover appears to have been part sincere homage, part gleeful provocation, as the band stayed true to Parton's lyrics and maintained their version as a woman singing about the fear that her man would be taken.
For decades, the recording existed only in bootleg form. The 1983 session boasted the Sisters cover version that had never otherwise seen official release. That changed in 2021, when BBC Sessions 1982-1984 was finally released, charting the band's earliest days as an indie band in 1982 to the time they signed to Warner Records in 1984.

What makes the whole song so delightful is the collision of worlds it represents. Parton's original is wide open emotionally. A woman at her most vulnerable, begging a rival for, mercy. Eldritch's version runs that same lyric through the Sisters' dark, mechanical engine. The words don't change. The feeling does, completely.
Parton, for her part, has always seemed unbothered by covers that take 'Jolene' somewhere she never intended. That may be the most country thing about this story: the song is big enough to hold whatever you bring to it. Even leather jackets, sunglasses, and Doktor Avalanche.
Marriott Is Finally Getting a Luxury Wellness Brand—and the Locations Are Total Dream
If you’ve been hoarding your Marriott Bonvoy points for a trip that involves more than just a nice room and a good breakfast, your ship—or rather, your spa—has officially come in. Marriott just announced that it's adding its 39th brand to the family, and for the first time ever, it’s a name dedicated exclusively to the world of luxury wellness.
The company is entering a joint venture with Lefay, the Italian powerhouse known for its stunning, nature-immersed resorts and a holistic "Spa Method" that makes a standard hotel massage look like an amateur hour.
For those of us who have been watching Hyatt’s Miraval or IHG’s Six Senses with a bit of "points envy," this is the news we’ve been waiting for. Lefay currently has two bucket-list-worthy properties in Italy that are about to become a lot more accessible to loyalists.
There’s the Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda, perched on a hill overlooking Italy's most famous lake, and the Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti, which is tucked away in the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites.

View this post on InstagramBoth locations focus on what they call "immersive" wellness, meaning you can choose a multi-day structured program to reset your system or simply book a la carte treatments while soaking in some of the best views in Europe.
While the ink is still drying on the deal, the plan is to take this European gem global. There are already three more Lefay properties in the works—including spots in Tuscany and the Swiss Alps—and Marriott plans to use its massive reach to bring the brand to even more dreamy corners of the world.
While we don't have an official date for when you can start clicking "use points" for a Lefay stay, the addition signals a major shift for Marriott as they move deeper into "purposeful" travel. It’s the ultimate win for the traveler who wants the reliability of a major loyalty program but the soul and serenity of a boutique Italian retreat.

These 4 Birth Dates Naturally Attract Love
Let’s face it! Life isn’t as full of coincidences as we’ve been asked to believe, especially when it comes to love. We often think of love as a game of chance, but what if your ability to manifest love was already written in your stars? According to many spiritual practices, like astrology and numerology, your love manifestation blueprint was written exactly on the day you were born. In the world of numerology for love, certain birth dates are naturally coded to manifest love, as they resonate with the frequency of a relational planet. Read on to discover which birth dates are most likely to attract affectionate love into their life effortlessly.
Which Birth Dates Naturally Attract Love? While any birth date can manifest love, the ones below do so effortlessly, as they feature the purest numerological energy of one of the nine planets in the solar system we live in. Read on to discover if your birth date is listed. Disregard birth months.
LEARN MORE ABOUT BIRTH DATE NUMEROLOGY:
Born on the 2nd: The NurturerThose born on the 2nd of any month are among the most relationship-oriented people. As the very first birth date ruled by the Moon, they carry the purest representation of feelings, emotions, and love. As sensitive beings in need of nurturance, they freely give and reciprocate affection. Their ability to open their hearts easily attracts partners who, like them, desire to build highly emotional relationships. Being romantically involved with someone born on the 2nd is incredibly enriching. Their high emotional intelligence is hard to come by.
Those born on the 2nd have a strong connection to their inner knowing. Guided by a strong and keen intuition, they intuitively know who to stay away from and who to attract. This built-in filter sends vibrational signals that attract serious partners, ensuring they find the right person for them.
RELATE?: The 4 Birth Months That Make the Best Lifelong Friends
Born on the 6th: The LoverThis might be the luckiest-in-love birth date of all, as 6 is the number ruled by Venus. Astrologically, Venus is the goddess of pleasure, known in ancient mythology for her unique ability to attract admiration. It wasn’t so much her beauty, but her confidence and attitude that served as a magnet for romance. Those born on this day hold a special connection to this divine feminine archetype, regardless of gender, and may even attract more than their fair share of admirers.
At times, those born on the 6th may even need to exercise discernment, as they can experience such a thing as “too much attention.” Since they are easily relatable, some may confuse their friendliness for romantic interest. But overall, good love karma follows them around and may find it easy to attract long-term partnerships due to their natural beauty and great personal style.
FUN!: Your '70s Hit Song, Based on Your Birth Month
Born on the 7th: The CharmerThose born on the 7thof any month are the ultimate love magnets, as 7 is the number ruled by Neptune. Associated with a higher octave of spirituality, Neptune is associated with the type of fairy tale-like romance you see in movies. These people are embellished by a golden aura that makes them incredibly charismatic. Whenever in full confidence, they attract lovers like a moth to a flame without even trying!
Because Neptune is also a planet connected to fantasy and illusion, those born on the 7th need to get clear on their love-related goals. Otherwise, when feeling confused, they may attract the wrong person or may give the wrong impression. If you were born on this day, a good practice is to envision your ideal partner or relationship, and then let your charm lead the way into love-magic manifestation!
SPRINGTIME CUTENESS: This Baby Bunny Matches You, Based on Your Birth Month
Born on the 9th: The MagnetSome are nurturers, others are lovers, and others are charmers—but those born on the 9th are magnets! This number is ruled by Mars, the planet of sex, and number 9 exudes a sexiness that is hard to ignore. Regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, they exhibit a close connection with their masculine energy. This means their love-manifestation tactic is to chase in order to attract.
It may sound counterintuitive, but it is their confidence and decisiveness that make natives of this birth day so attractive. They are confident and direct about what they want, which is refreshing, especially to those who often get tired of the dating guessing game. It’s important to mention that those born on this day may take some time to settle, as needing to explore their sexuality is an effect of being ruled by planet Mars.

Nancy Guthrie Exclusive: How Her Grandchildren Might Be Coping Amid the Uncertainty
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1, and the uncertainty surrounding her case is taking a quiet but profound toll on her family—especially her grandchildren. While much of the public focus has been on the investigation, those closest to her are grappling with the day-to-day reality of not having answers, trying to process their grief while holding onto hope.
In an effort to get an understanding on what Guthrie's youngest family members might be going through given the uncertainty as well as other factors, Parade reached out to mental health expert Dr. Jenny Shields for some insight.
"Children are natural meaning-makers. When there is a gap in the family story, such as a missing grandparent, they will instinctively try to fill it. When adults do not provide a narrative, children often fill that gap with imagination, and what they imagine can be far more frightening than reality," Shields tells Parade.
Guthrie, 84, has at least five grandchildren. In Savannah's first interview since her mom's disappearance, she explained how her kids, Vale, 11, and Charley, 9, are coping.
"It's so hard with kids because you want to protect them," she told Hoda Kotb on the March 26 episode of Today. "Vale would write me all the time, 'Mama, any leads? Did you hear anything? Any hope?' I think that we try to talk and try to give them a little more certainty than we have to let them grieve."
This appears to be in line with what Dr. Shields suggests.
"Children do not need the whole truth, but they do need an honest truth. I call this 'Developmental Honesty,'" Shields says. "It means giving children enough information to make sense of the emotional climate in the home without burdening them with adult fears. When we say 'everything is fine' when it clearly is not, we teach children to mistrust their own perceptions. A steadier message is: 'We don’t have all the answers yet, but we are looking for them, and you are safe.'"
Shields also notes that high-profile cases such as this one can cause children to hear things at school or on social media that can affect their everyday lives. In these instances, Shields suggests giving children a phrase to help them answer any unwanted questions.
"'My family is working on it, and my mom is taking care of us,'" Shields suggests. "That shifts the child from feeling like a passive subject of the story to becoming a keeper of their own story."
Nancy Guthrie's Grandchildren Need RoutineOne thing that Dr. Shields points out is that many children do best when routine is involved.
"For a child, safety is rarely found in the details of an investigation. It is found in the predictable rhythm of daily life. When the external world feels chaotic, the internal world of home needs to remain as steady and ordinary as possible," Shields says.
"In a crisis, routine becomes a form of psychological medicine. School, bedtime, soccer practice, family dinner—these are not distractions from grief. They are anchors. Normalcy tells a child’s nervous system that life is still intact, which makes it possible to process the larger grief in manageable pieces," she adds.
Nancy Guthrie's Grandchildren Need to Learn to Live in the Both/AndIn her previous comments made to Parade, Dr. Shields explained the both/and way of thinking. Now, she's applying that to Guthrie's granchildren.
"Just as adults are learning to live in the 'Both/And,' children need permission to hold complex emotions too. They need to know they can miss their grandmother and still feel excited about a birthday party," Shields tells me.
"Children often feel guilty for being happy when the adults around them are sad. Parents have to name this explicitly: We can be a family that is missing someone we love, and still be a family that laughs together, celebrates together, and enjoys movie night. Giving children permission to remain children in the middle of tragedy may be one of the greatest gifts a parent can offer," she continues.

What It’s Like to Walk Inside Frozen, According to the People Who Created It
There's something incredibly moving that occurs when a global cinematic phenomenon—one that shattered box office records and redefined a generation of storytelling—takes physical form. For the creators of Frozen, that transition reached its pinnacle this week with the grand opening of the World of Frozen at Disneyland Paris. It serves as the crown jewel and first major expansion of the newly reimagined second park, Disney Adventure World.
Standing on the edge of the new Arendelle Bay the day before the official opening, I felt a literal chill. Anchored by a breathtaking 118-foot-tall North Mountain and the glistening village of Arendelle, the space—complete with the Frozen Ever After attraction, the Anna and Elsa Royal Encounter, the Nordic Crowns restaurant and a celebratory Snowflower Festival—has already helped the park reach new heights in audience engagement.
As the editor covering experiences at Parade, I’ve seen how theme parks have exploded into cultural touchstones. But Frozen is different. It's a generational theme for women; a story about how our powers can be muted and how we find the strength to reclaim them.
During opening weekend, I sat down with Jennifer Lee, acclaimed writer and director of the first two Frozen films and director of the upcoming Frozen 3, and Trent Correy, animator on Frozen and Frozen 2 and co-director of Frozen 3, who has lived with Olaf for over a decade. We discussed the surreal moment the gates opened, the "DNA" of the land and why—15 years after they first started sketching—this story still makes grown adults "literally bawl."
Related: Frozen Comes to Life at the New Disney Adventure World
The Moment "Ours" Becomes "Theirs"When you spend years in a dark studio in Burbank obsessing over wallpaper patterns and the specific shade of a character’s cape, the transition to a physical kingdom can be overwhelming.
"I got to come here a day before everyone else," Lee told me. "I think one of the things I learned... when Frozen 1 went out to the world as a film, was this moment where I hadn't really quite experienced the sensation of 'It's ours.' It's ours until the night before it opens. And then it's not. And that hit me pretty hard in a lovely way back then."
Walking into the World of Frozen in Paris brought that feeling back, but with an additional layer. "Now, when I got here and I saw this, it was more just this feeling of like, 'Wow, I can't believe they did that. How nice.' I felt a lot of gratitude," Lee reflected. "No one's obligated to embrace the story or want to get the character or make a world. I just felt, I kept saying thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
For Correy, who started on the crowds' team for the first Frozen and rose to become the supervising animator of Olaf, the land is a necessary reality check. "We work so hard to get our films, and we're so hard on ourselves at work," he admitted. "These little reminders of stepping into the theme parks or going to see a movie with an audience... those are the best reminders. It's a nice reminder to be like, 'this is why we do this.'"

The Architecture of Emotion: Hiding and SeekingWhat makes the World of Frozen in Disney Adventure World so unique is how it uses physical space to mirror the internal transformation of the sisters. It isn't just "scenery"; it is storytelling you can walk through.
"I'll tell you the thing that I was most struck by," Lee said, looking out from The Regal View lounge. "When you come in, you look at the whole land... You see, when you look up at the Ice Palace, which is gorgeous, but it's all in snow and it has that wall that was always there on purpose to show she's hiding."
The land then draws the eye down into the village. "Arendelle is all Anna," Lee explained. "But then your eye goes to the castle. And the castle is a combination of both because it's got the wood and the warmth of Anna, and then it has Elsa's—they put Elsa's ice on the spires and on the roofs. It just shows the journey of this separation of these two and then the unification of these two girls. I felt the whole movie just looking at the land."
This "unified" design extends even to the dining experiences. The Nordic Crowns restaurant features two distinct buildings—one utilizing the warm, earthy tones of Anna and the other the cooler, crystalline palette of Elsa.
Related: Disneyland Paris Reveals New World of Frozen Experience—And It’s Giving Us Literal Chills
The Detail in the "DNA"The level of detail is obsessive, a result of a "Creative Legacy" team at the studio working hand-in-hand with Imagineering. Correy pointed out that for true fans, the history is built into the very walls—literally. "Walking through the line to see Anna and Elsa, their height chart is in the hallways," he noted. "It's really cool to just have that built-in history there."
For Lee, seeing the textures she debated over a decade ago finally realized in 3D was a "full circle" moment. "Everything about how we built the choices we made on the wallpaper... thousands of hours of work by this art team," she said. "The parks were so respectful to that. Every little thing—the tin soldiers there, the clock tower. Mike [Giaimo, Production Designer] had a goal... that when you froze on a frame of Frozen, there would be no doubt it was Frozen. They captured that here. Any photo you take, you're going to know you're in Frozen."
Meeting an "Old Friend": The Animatronic OlafMeghann Foye
Perhaps the most emotional breakthrough in the land is the new animatronic Olaf. This isn't just a machine; it's the result of animators like Correy working side-by-side with engineers to "train" the robot in the language of the film.
"Olaf's my guy," Correy smiled. He recounted his journey from animating crowds to directing Once Upon a Snowman. "Now Frozen 3, it’s like it went full circle, and now it's doing another circle."
Lee described the experience of meeting the "living" Olaf as a threshold moment in Disney technology. "The intimacy... when I saw Olaf for the first time on Wednesday, I rounded the corner and he turned and looked at me, and I just burst into tears because I'm like, it's like a friend," she shared. "I got this little moment of getting to walk with him and it was like walking with an old friend that I know so well. I just can't wait to see what it would feel like [for a child] to meet Olaf."
Related: Disney’s New Theme Park Music Has Arrived—and It’s Seriously Magical
Looking Toward Frozen 3: "Data" and "Truth"As the team moves deeper into the development of Frozen 3, being in the land provides what they call "emotional data."
"I'm excited to see people step on the land," Correy said. "Because, again, it's a good reminder of what people love about Frozen. I have two young girls... my two-and-a-half-year-old hasn't seen the movie, but she loves the dress and loves the girls. All that stuff is very telling. It's all kind of like data for us."
For Lee, the land reinforces the "why" of the third film. "For all the directions you can go with a story... the part that I think was the most wonderful surprise with the first film is how much the world embraced the sisters as sisters. It’s the power of the bond with someone who will do anything for you in a world that's constantly fighting against you."
She admits they are "pretty hard on themselves" during the writing process for the next chapter. "Every day, we're asking, 'What are they feeling? What are they thinking? What's true to them versus sensationalistic?' Making sure we're paying respect to who they are as characters—that's not easy. It's a lot of hard work in the studio every day, and you're questioning everything. Some truth comes through when you get to be with the guests."
A Kingdom for Every Woman Queens Anna and Elsa Audio-Animatronics in Frozen Ever After at Disney Adventure World, Disneyland Paris, FranceToward the end of our discussion, I mentioned how Frozen seems to land for adult women just as much as children. I told them about my own experience of tearing up while watching the production, and how the themes of the "muted" power of women feel more relevant than ever.
"I think, to your point, as we all live through, the world swings one way and another," Lee said softly. "And I think women always stand strong as the ones who hold it all, no matter which way it goes. Anna and Elsa do that. They are responsible. Becoming a princess or a queen isn't like—now your life is easy. They carry the responsibilities, and I think we all relate to that."
She reflected on the "Anna vs. Elsa" archetype that has become a cultural shorthand. "I'm an Anna," Lee confessed. "I'm very ordinary and I'm very disheveled, but I have this part of myself where I can see a different thing in other people... and I have an empathy that can get me in trouble and get me hurt."
"And you have Elsa, who's an introvert with the most incredible power that the world—a lot of female power the world resists—and she has the love of her sister to help her not shy away from what power she has."
Lee’s hope for the World of Frozen in Paris is that it serves as a sanctuary. "It makes me feel like, for anyone out there, you're not going to find something hurtful within either of them. You're going to find, hopefully, something that helps you. That's what we would hope. Allowing that story to continue."
As a travel editor who has navigated many immersive environments, I can confirm: standing in Arendelle Bay, watching the sun hit the spires of the castle, you don't just find a theme park. You find a connection to a story that has defined a generation. In the heart of Disney Adventure World, the gates are open—and Arendelle is finally a place you can call your own.

The Most Popular Alaska Cruise for Families Is This 2008 Classic
In my 20 years of covering family travel—from my days at Woman’s Day and Redbook to now here at Parade—I’ve seen plenty of "shiny new object" syndrome. We all get tempted by the latest billion-dollar megaships with their go-kart tracks and robot bartenders. But as a seasoned travel editor, I’ve learned that sometimes the smartest vacations happen on the ships that have perfected the art of the "glow-up."
Case in point: Cruise Critic re-released its data-backed list of the 11 Most Popular Cruise Ships in Alaska, and their top pick for families and couples isn't a brand-new vessel. It’s the Celebrity Solstice.
While the Solstice is currently making waves with its 2026 "Sunset Park" reimagining and new "Infinite Veranda" suites, those aren't the only reasons it holds the crown. It’s the combination of fresh hardware and the long-standing traditions that families have loved for nearly two decades.
While the Cruise Critic community was already obsessed with this classic before it got refurbed this year, here's why, post-2026 glow-up, it's now an even better choice for your family’s summer itinerary:

Replacing the original grass lawn, this half-acre, aft-facing oasis is now the ultimate social hub for scenic cruising. Families can spend the afternoon with lawn games and live music, then transition into "Movies Under the Stars" with a massive outdoor screen—all with the best wake views in the fleet.

2. Modernized Family SuitesThe Solstice has leaned into the "Suite Life" with the addition of Panoramic Infinite Veranda Suites. Borrowed from Celebrity’s newest Edge-class ships, these rooms feature floor-to-ceiling glass that rolls down to create an open-air balcony. For families, it means more usable indoor space without missing a single second of the Hubbard Glacier drifting by.
3. A Grown-Up Culinary SceneCouples are flocking to the ship’s new specialty dining venues, including Trattoria Rossa (think house-made pastas and tableside Caesar salads) and the Fine Cut Steakhouse. It’s the kind of high-end dining that makes a cruise feel like a luxury getaway, even when you have the kids in tow.
4. A Focus on EnrichmentThis is the "legacy" secret that has kept the Solstice at the top of the Cruise Critic charts for years. Celebrity’s commitment to enrichment is world-class. We’re talking about dedicated onboard naturalists who provide live narration as you weave through the Inside Passage, local cultural performers who bring the history of the 49th state to life, and the "Camp at Sea" program that keeps kids engaged with STEM and nature-focused activities that actually feel like an adventure.
