Iconic '70s Rocker Made Final Stage Appearance 36 Years Ago Today

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 10:00am

The legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury made his last stage appearance 36 years ago today at the Brit Awards ceremony. The singer took the stage with his bandmates to accept an award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Little did viewers know, it would be the last time the star would grace the stage.

His 1990 appearance followed years of harsh speculation surrounding Mercury's health, with many tabloids spreading rumors that he had HIV. Although Mercury denied these claims heavily due to their implications at the time, it was clear watching his last appearance that the rock and roll icon's health was declining.

During the ceremony, lead guitarist Brian May took the reins in giving the band's acceptance speech. Mercury was visibly quieter than normal, standing to the side holding the award. Although he appeared gaunt to fans, his spirits remained high as he exited the stage with a smile, wave and a "Thank you, goodnight."

Despite Mercury's team working hard to deny his 1987 diagnosis, on November 23, 1991, just one a day before he died, Mercury released a statement to the public confirming the truth.

"Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS," Mercury said. "I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease. My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue.”

Even though he was struggling near the end of his life, the singer never let it bring him down, advocating for what he thought was right until his death. Despite dying at only 45 years old, the singer's legacy has lived on as one of the greatest rock stars of all time and as a a key figure in the destigmatization of the AIDs epidemic in the '90s.

1976 Massive Hit Ranked Best ‘Punk Rock Song’ of All Time

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:59am

Punk rock music has always existed as the antithesis to commercially successful, mainstream music. It came to prominence in the 1960s and '70s as a genre defined by its rebellious spirit, and artists such as the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and even Green Day have become symbols of how punk music has evolved.

Ultimate Classic Rock put together a list of the top 30 best punk rock songs of all time, which includes hits from the aforementioned artists, as well as groups such as Bikini Kill, Blink-182, Black Flag and Iggy Pop, among others.

Taking the No. 1 spot, though, is the Sex Pistols' classic hit "Anarchy in the U.K." (1976) — the band's debut single that shot them into the spotlight at the beginning stage of their career.

Led by the vocals of Johnny Rotten at the time, "Anarchy in the U.K." is widely regarded as the single most defining song of the punk rock era. It's largely responsible for launching punk rock into mainstream success, shocking the world with its profoundly unapologetic, vulgar energy.

"The song frightened England’s buttoned-down society and received backlash from many mainstream outlets," Ultimate Classic Rock wrote about the song. "Sex Pistols reveled in the controversy, using outrage over the tune to fuel their popularity. Nearly 50 years after its release, 'Anarchy in the U.K.' remains the powder keg whose explosion began punk’s mainstream invasion."

The song begins with Rotten (who now goes by his real name John Lydon) loudly proclaiming, "I am an Antichrist, and I am an anarchist," and continues to reference themes of teenage rage, social alienation and anti-establishment defiance, reflecting the attitudes and frustration of 1970s Britain.

English singer Johnny Rotten of punk rock band The Sex Pistols hands a can of beer to fans while on stage at Leeds Polytechnic during their 'Anarchy Tour' gig.

"It’s a call to arms to the kids who believe that rock and roll was taken away from them. It’s a statement of self rule, of ultimate independence," said Malcolm McLaren, the Sex Pistols' manager.

The song holds a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll list, and was re-recorded in 2007 by the surviving band members (minus bassist Glen Matlock) for the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. "Anarchy in the U.K." is also referenced in other areas of pop culture, such as in the soundtracks of the TV series Constantine (2014–2015) and the film A-Team (2010).

Endocrinologists Say This Is the Most Underrated Food for Blood Sugar After 50

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:50am

Even if you’re not part of the 1 in 10 Americans with diabetes, managing blood sugar becomes more important with age. Simply getting older is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, with the risk significantly increasing after age 45.

You may already be aware of the physiological changes that come with aging, like gray hair and wrinkles. But changes are happening inside the body, too. As we age, the body produces less insulin, which is one reason why the risk for type 2 diabetes increases with age. Weight gain is also common with age, especially visceral fat, that stubborn fat that accumulates around the abdomen and can be tough to get rid of. This also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

People with type 2 diabetes need insulin to manage it, but if you have pre-diabetes or simply want to be proactive, you can support your blood sugar through what you eat. Foods with lean protein (like skinless chicken and fish) or that are high in fiber (like fruits, vegetables and whole grains) are great ways to support blood sugar through diet.

There’s one other food in particular that’s especially beneficial for supporting blood sugar that many people forget about. Keep reading to find out what it is.

Why Stable Blood Sugar Is Important, Even if You Don’t Have Diabetes

Oscar Wong/Getty Images

If you don’t have diabetes or pre-diabetes, you may be wondering why maintaining stable blood sugar is important. “Blood sugar balance is important for people who don't have diabetes for many reasons, including hormone balance, improving mood and energy and long-term health,” says Dr. Sirin Pandey, MD, an endocrinologist at Inspira Health in New Jersey.

If your energy or mood feels like a rollercoaster, with highs and lows throughout the day, that’s a sure sign that your blood sugar is all over the place. “Sugar spikes and crashes can cause brain fog, lack of energy and mood swings,” she notes.

Related: This Is the #1 Best Habit for Blood Sugar Balance, According to an Endocrinologist

Unbalanced blood sugar has long-term implications as well. According to Dr. Pandey, blood sugar spikes and crashes can lead to a release of insulin and cortisol, which can cause weight gain. Scientific research shows this, too, showing that it can lead to an increase in visceral fat and liver fat, specifically.

For older adults, Dr. Mohammad Ansari, MD,an endocrinologist at Houston Methodist West Hospital, says that maintaining stable blood sugar can help prevent falls and fractures. This is because it helps prevent dizziness, confusion and weakness

Both doctors also say that having unstable blood sugar long-term increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and other chronic health conditions.

The Most Underrated Food for Blood Sugar After 50, According to Endocrinologists

According to both endocrinologists, one food that’s especially great for blood sugar balance after 50 is legumes.

“Legumes contain fiber that helps stabilize blood sugar and reduce spikes. Eating legumes regularly improves insulin sensitivity, so you can handle carbohydrates better,” Dr. Pandey tells Parade.

Examples of legumes include lentils, chickpeas, soybeans and peanuts.

Dr. Ansari agrees, adding that eating legumes helps stabilize sugars and reduce hemoglobin A1c values, which is a test that measures average blood sugar levels from the past two to three months by calculating the percentage of hemoglobin coated with sugar. This test serves as a key tool for diabetes and prediabetes.

Related: The Silent Symptom of High Blood Sugar You Should Never Ignore, According to Endocrinologists

Both doctors say that legumes are also a great food for managing diabetes. “Legumes are high in fiber, so diabetics feel full on a smaller amount of food, which can help with weight loss,” Dr. Ansari says.

Dr. Pandey notes that legumes are a great source of protein. This is especially beneficial if you’re 50 or older, since protein needs only increase as you age—and other sources of protein, like meat, aren't great for heart health.

Dr. Pandey also points out that legumes are full of fiber, something everyone can benefit from. “The fiber in legumes helps feed the good microbiome, improving overall gut health. The fiber also keeps you fuller for a longer period of time, helping maintain body weight as well,” she says.

In fact, legumes are so nutrient-rich that Dr. Pandey eats them every single day. “I mostly eat lentils and pair them with rice, which helps me sleep better at night,” she explains. Better sleep is yet another benefit of stable blood sugar. Good sleep, in turn, supports steady blood sugar, a very beneficial cycle.

Legumes certainly aren’t the only food that can help balance blood sugar, but they’re one that brings a whole host of health benefits to the table. Start eating them regularly, and not only will you feel more balanced short-term, but you’ll also reduce your risk for chronic health conditions long-term, too.

Twenty One Pilots' Viral Song 'Drag Path' Is Officially Available To Stream, With A Catch

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:49am

Twenty One Pilots' song "Drag Path" has long been viral on TikTok, but fans had one major complaint: It was never available on streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music. The song was previously an exclusive track from the Breach album release, and bandmates Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun didn't want to be unfair to fans who purchased it by suddenly making it available on streaming services.

However, it seems that public pressure finally convinced Dun and Joseph to release it, as the song was finally made available to stream on February 17—with one specific catch. To respect fans who purchased the original song, this streaming version of "Drag Path" is slightly different. The music duo explained their rationale in a video that had mixed reactions from commenters.

@twentyonepilots

Many commenters simply expressed excitement that this song, which had become a TikTok phenomenon due to the trend of the song being used for emotional edits, was finally available off the app as well. Yet, many comments also expressed the desire for the original song to be the one available to stream, including from some commenters who indicated they were among those who had purchased the original song.

One such commenter wrote, "I PURCHASED DRAG PATH ORIGINAL AND I DONT CARE RELEASE IT I NEED IT ON STREAMING 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️," and another said, "As a person who purchased the original, give everybody the original. This song is too important. We don’t mind that we purchased it and you might release it. It’s cool and all that you have the edited. But I hope I can speak for many fans that say that that song is important to be released. Even if we paid for it, we still want everyone to feel it."

Despite that mixed feedback, it's clear that the overwhelming feeling from fans about this news is joy and gratitude. As mentioned in the Twenty One Pilots post explaining their rationale for releasing a slightly altered version of the song, a new "Drag Path" music video was also released, and that has likewise been met with excitement and appreciation.

1989 Classic Was a No. 1 Hit 36 Years Ago Today

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:47am

36 years ago today, a classic pop tune by Paula Abdul sat in the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The former American Idol judge's track, "Opposites Attract," was officially released as a single in November 1989, as part of her 1988 debut album, Forever Your Girl, with Feb. 10, 1990, initially kicking off a 3-week run at No. 1 for the hit. It entered much lower on the music list, rising from No. 72 to No. 47 the week of Dec. 23, 1989.

Written and produced by Oliver Leiber, it became Abdul's fourth No. 1 single, making her the first female artist to achieve that many No. 1 hits from a debut album. With the success, she also became the fourth artist in music history at the time to score four No. 1 hits from a single album, joining Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and George Michael.

Additionally, the music video for the track won a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video in 1991.

Last year, Abdul honored the release of her life-changing project, writing in a June 2025 social media post, "Forever Your Girl came out in ’88 and changed my life forever. 37 years later, this album still means the world to me. Thank you for the love then, now, and always. XoP."

Fans chimed in to agree with her sentiment, writing things like, "I was 8 and absolutely in love with this album and you! I have so many amazing memories of listening to this with my mom on summer drives etc. you were my GOAT as a child! Love seeing you still out there dancing and moving" and "First cassette tape I ever got."

Screen Legend Sally Field, 79, Is Gray Hair Goals Alongside Dear Friend, ‘Weapons’ Star Amy Madigan

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:44am

Sally Field is a woman you want to have in your corner.

The legendary film and television actress, 79, is known for roles ranging from Mrs. Doubtfire and Forrest Gump to Norma Rae and Absence of Malice. While she got her start in the '60s as Gidget and The Flying Nun, she progressed into a layered career filled with tremendous roles that solidified her as one of Hollywood's most talented actresses.

But in addition to being one of Tinseltown's best talents, Field is also a ride-or-die friend. She recently hosted a post-screening celebration for Weapons star Amy Madigan at the London Hotel in West Hollywood, celebrating Madigan’s first-ever Actor Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role from the Screen Actors Guild. The event also included a conversation moderated by Katey Rich. Looking stunning, Field wore a gray suit and sported full gray hair, an increasingly common trend in Hollywood for actresses like Lorraine Bracco and Hilarie Burton, who have chosen to show their gray hair with pride. We love to see these ladies sporting their natural hair with confidence!

What's Next for Sally Field?

Last year, it was announced that Field signed on to star in the film adaptation of Remarkably Bright Creatures, based on Shelby Van Pelt’s 2022 blockbuster novel of the same name, US Magazine reported. But no matter what project she chooses to tackle next, it’s clear Field is well aware that she’s a legend in her own right.

“I have had so many moments that were important,” she told Variety in 2022 about her career. “I mean, it’s obvious that the films I had the opportunity to do were complicated, interesting work with good and strong directors.”

Field is also the mom of three sons: PeterEli, and Sam. But we couldn't skip the opportunity to post one of our favorite Sally Field moments. Here she is during her Academy Award acceptance speech for 1984's drama, Places in the Heart. Yes, Sally, we really do like you!

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:42am

Former The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville can finally find some peace after learning what caused her troubling facial disfigurement.

Speaking to TMZ on Feb. 18, the reality star revealed that her facial parasite was the result of her 20-year-old breast implants rupturing and leaking silicone into her lymph nodes, clogging them. Her health update was first reported byInTouch, via the Daily Enquirer.

“I definitely had a parasite, I was shocked because I’ve had [my implants] for 20 years — almost,” she shared, adding, "They looked fine, they felt fine, the mammogram said they were fine, it wasn’t until I had a sonogram. I was just feeling like you should check that too, why not? I’ve checked everything else."

Glanville told the outlet that she had "checked everything else," had visited "21 doctors," and had "spent so much money" to finally get the answers she was looking for after battling with her facial infection for two years.

The reality star appeared both positive and relieved to finally have clarity despite her ongoing battle, which she called a "hard lesson."

“You really should change your breast implants every ten years, and I just didn’t do it," she said. "I thought, if it's not broke dont fix it, but I learnt a really, really hard lesson."

Glanville also shared that she now has a plan to move forward with treatment that includes "lasers and different things" to help repair her face after having her implants removed. Still, she admitted the emotional toll has been difficult, adding, "It just sucks to age 20 years overnight."

According to People, Glanville initially believed that she contracted a parasite while shooting Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in Morocco in 2023. She later shared that she could see the "parasite" moving in her face.

Meet the ‘Godmother of Rock and Roll’ Who Shaped a Generation — From Keith Richards to Eric Clapton

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:36am

Born in 1915 to singers in Arkansas, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is forever cemented in the history of music as the "Godmother of Rock and Roll."

Raised solely by her mother, Katie Bell Nubin, Tharpe's—birth name Rosie Etta Atkins—entire life was shaped by the hands of a performer. She began singing and playing guitar in front of audiences at just four years old.

After moving to Chicago in 1921, Tharpe and her mother toured with an evangelist troupe throughout the South. The two continued performing together through the 1930s.

When Tharpe turned 19, in 1935, she married a preacher; Thomas Tharpe. Another performance duo, the two played radio shows where Tharpe sang and played guitar while her husband at the time preached.

Within three years, their marriage ended and Tharpe moved to New York City.

Performing at the Apollo Theater and Cotton Club, Tharpe began professionally recording in 1941. She toured with Lucky Millinder and His Orchestra until 1943.

Her work was often criticized, as she was raised in the church and her sound reflected that of gospel. Tharpe's love of jazz, blues, nightclubs and dancers—her knack for the guitar, which at the time, was not something women did—it did not sit right with the religious community.

As Tharpe rose higher in status during the 1940s, she was still subject to Jim Crow Laws requiring racial segregation in many public places. Tharpe could perform alongside white artists, but she could not travel or eat or stay in the same places as them.

While life proceeded to hand her its challenges, Tharpe's "continued meshing and bending of genres that laid the foundation for rock and roll allowed her to express herself in ways that were not typical of the time," according to the National Women's History Museum (NWHM).

Tharpe remarried in 1951, holding a wedding-concert combination alongside her third and final husband, Russell Morrison, and over 25,000 fans.

Previously, upon her arrival in New York, Tharpe had married promoter Foch P. Allen, but their nuptials were short-lived.

Her lengthy career amassed over a dozen albums, countless hit songs, and collaborations with artists such as Marie Knight (who was a bridesmaid in her marriage to Morrison) and Muddy Waters.

Tharpe toured throughout Europe during the late 1950s and early '60s, her music influencing the British blues revival and the next generation of rock and roll.

"It was tours featuring the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Muddy Waters and, in 1957, Sister Rosetta Tharpe that had such a profound impact on young British musicians who are now household names," writes Guitar World.

"Such as Peter Green, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. The list is endless."

In a 1957 interview with the Daily Mirror, per the NWHM, Tharpe noted: "All this new stuff they call Rock and Roll, why I've been playing that for years now."

Tharpe died on October 9, 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1970, she suffered from a stroke and encountered a tough journey with diabetes. She had a leg amputated from health complications before passing from another stroke at the age of 58.

Her legacy, however, remains—between a USPS-produced postage stamp, a 2007 induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, a 2017 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a musical chronicling her life; Shout, Sister, Shout!—it's safe to say Sister Rosetta Tharpe left a lasting impact on artists across the world.

Some weeks seem to get away from you. Even with the best planning, getting dinner on the table after a long day can feel like one more hurdle. This winter, Sam’s Club is helping simplify weeknights with several new prepared meal options aimed at taking the stress out of dinnertime.

A recent TikTok from @samsclubfoodreview highlighted the newest additions to the Member’s Mark prepared foods lineup, showing a mix of comfort meals and lighter options that can go straight from the container to the table.

One of the heartier additions is the Member’s Mark Szechuan Beef Noodle Stir Fry, priced at $6.46 per pound and available for a limited time. The family-size portion serves three to four people and is ready in about six minutes. As @samsclubfoodreview noted in a February 18 review, the generous amount of tender beef and noodles reheated well, maintaining a satisfying chew. While the dish delivered on texture and value, the spice level leaned mild, offering a more subtle heat than traditional Szechuan preparations.

Szechuan cuisine is often associated with fiery heat, but its defining characteristic is balance. According to Serious Eats, it combines spicy, citrusy, salty, sour, and savory elements, with Sichuan peppercorns creating the signature tingling sensation that sets the region’s flavors apart. American adaptations typically soften the intensity, making the flavors more approachable while still offering depth.

For something lighter, the Member’s Mark Cherry Pistachio Crunch Salad provides a fresh contrast to heavier winter meals. Priced around $12.89, or roughly $7.16 per pound, the mix combines spring greens with dried cherries, strawberries, goat cheese, pistachios, and a red wine vinaigrette for a balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors. It works as an easy side, pairs well with grilled chicken or salmon, or can stand alone as a quick meal when time is tight. It could also be portioned out for quick meal-prep lunches.

The new prepared lineup also includes Calzones with Marinara and the High Protein Penne with Italian Sausage, both of which have already drawn attention from shoppers looking for quick, satisfying options. Together, these additions reflect Sam’s Club’s continued focus on prepared foods that help simplify busy schedules.

With a mix of hearty comfort foods and lighter ready-to-serve meals, Sam’s Club’s expanding prepared foods lineup offers flexible solutions for nights when cooking from scratch isn’t realistic.

Whitney Leavitt Announces Extension In 'Chicago' Run

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:30am

Whitney Leavitt is set to rock 'Chicago' as Roxie Hart for a bit longer, the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star announced on Wednesday.

Putting her acting chops to work, Leavitt made the announcement on Instagram with a moody 'Chicago'-esque monologue set in black and white, complete with a cigarette prop.

"Oh New York, New York, they told me Broadway would chew me up and spit me out, and I must say she certainly tried," she said. "After all, I am just a small town girl in a big city but it turns out New York wants a little bit more than just a Costco sample."

"I'm not going anywhere baby," she added, leading to text that read "Whitney Leavitt is officially extending as Roxie Hart in 'Chicago.'"

View this post on Instagram

"SECRET'S OUT!!!!!!!" she captioned the video.

And, of course, fans were elated congratulating the newfound Broadway star in the post's comments.

"Yasssssss 🎶 “we had it coming, we had it coming🎶," one wrote, with another saying, "THAT’S RIGHT 👏👏 AND ALL THAT JAZZ" referencing the show's famed songs.

"Yesss 🙌 congrats and well deserved" added another, while another fan said Leavitt in 'Chicago' was the "best performance ever i think."

When Leavitt first announced her Broadway debut, she was initially slated to take the stage until March 15. According to Playbill, she'll now stay on as Roxie from March 23 to April 5.

Leavitt's success in the role may have been set way before she took the stage, however. During her time on Dancing with the Stars in the show's most recent season, her partner Mark Ballasperhaps manifested that she should be in Chicago when the two did a tango to "Cell Block Tango" on the show. Leavitt went on to sell out opening night of the show before her run even began.

Support for the reality-turned-Broadway-star has been a constant as both her SLOMW co-stars and DWTS pros have shown to watch her perform. And now, fans, and maybe even more stars, have a few more weeks to score a ticket to see her on stage.

2008 Heavy Metal Hit Ranked 'Saddest Rock Song' of All Time

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:19am

When it comes to soulful, aching rock ballads, even heavy metal bands have delivered some of the genre's most gut-wrenching lyrics. Among a list of popular contenders, Slipknot rose to the top, with their 2008 track earning recognition as one of the saddest songs ever released.

TheTopTens crafted a Top 10 list of the "saddest rock songs of all time," with fans being the masterminds behind the voting and giving the No.1 spot to Slipknot's "Snuff." Fans commented that it's "powerful" and "emotional" and guarantees to make anyone tear up hearing its lyrics.

"There is so much pain, sorrow, confusion, hatred, love, longing, betrayal, and truth in this song. It's so beautiful because it describes us as humans, it describes a depressed mindset. So many of the lyrics are painful, so many move us. This song is the most impactful you will ever find. But it's not a mournful song. It still has the sound of Slipknot, but just beautiful," said one fan.

Categorized as a ballad, the song was released in 2008 as the fifth and final single from Slipknot's fourth studio album, All Hope is Gone. It was a success immediately upon release, landing at No. 2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The song has some backstory, having been the last song with original bassist Paul Gray before his death months later, and the departure of Joey Jordison in 2013.

In prior interviews about the song, Jordison admitted that the lyrics were all frontman Corey Taylor's doing and calls it his "masterpiece". Though he rarely contributed to the band’s songwriting at the time, Taylor heard the track Gray and Jordison were developing, and laid down the vocals. Jordison later added the drums, and the next day, Corey was moved to tears after hearing the finished version.

Taylor told Kerrang! that he never expected the band to use the song and made it during one of the hardest times of his life. The lyrics are based on Taylor's divorce, talking about self-loathing and heartbreak. Even the song's music video is highly regarded as one of the most impactful.

The list also includes other hits like Pearl Jam's "Black," Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends," Metallica's "Unforgiven," Avenged Sevenfold's "I Won't See You Tonight Part 1," and Evanescence's "My Immortal."

The 'Fanciest' McDonald's Is Housed in a 1700s McMansion in This U.S. Town

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:15am

From its 1950s diner-era look—all shiny metal and bright golden arches—to today's sleek, greige makeover, McDonald's has had quite the transformation over the years. The iconic red-and-yellow logo has stuck around, but the buildings have cycled through decades of redesigns: think retro '70s and '80s earth-tone overload, then '90s and early 2000s white brick boxes with red roofs and those famous PlayPlaces you could spot right through the front window.

Where Can You Find the Fanciest McDonald's in the U.S.? View this post on Instagram

But one location has never followed the script. The "fanciest" McDonald's in the country lives in New Hyde Park, N.Y.—and it looks more like a historic mansion than a fast food joint. Housed inside the Denton House, the building dates back to 1795, when it was a farmhouse before later becoming a Georgian-style estate. When McDonald's bought the property in 1985, plans to tear it down sparked community outrage. Locals fought to save it and won, earning the home historic landmark status in 1988. The result? A burger spot aptly named the "McMansion" that touts serious old-school elegance.

The Transformation of the Denton House Into a McDonald's

McDonald's agreed to an extensive restoration, keeping the elegant exterior and many architectural details while adding a discreet drive-thru in the back. The restaurant opened in 1991, and today it looks much like the stately home it once was—complete with a winding portico, grand staircase and classic facade—even though the menu inside is just like any other McDonald's. Locals and visitors alike often call it one of the most beautiful McDonald's in the country, a quirky blend of historic preservation and fast food culture.

Step inside and it feels more manor house than McNuggets. A sweeping staircase rises beneath high ceilings, with exposed trusses and an open view to the second floor. Antique-style light fixtures line the walls, while gray, black and white walls and trim give the space a crisp, updated look. It's a far cry from the standard interstate drive-thru most of us know by heart.

What Do Locals and Tourists Have to Say About the Fanciest McDonald's?

Though this McDonald's has been around for decades, its very existence has recently resurfaced online—and the internet has plenty to say. Some people love that their hometown Mickey D's looks like a stately mansion, while others argue it's a questionable use of such a beautiful, historic building.

"This is less than 4 miles from me. I go there once in a while when I'm in the mood for a different kind of McDonald's ambiance. Sadly they wont let you go up the staircase and eat on the second floor anymore," said one local. "Been here!! So cool," exclaimed a fan. "I bet you the ice cream machine isn't broken," joked another person. "That was always the spot we did bday parties. I miss going there," another reminisced.

"It's a nice McDonald's, but it's not the fanciest by far IMO," exclaimed one person. Apparently, there are several McDonald's locations in the U.S. that are not the traditional brick-and-mortar shop. "There is one in Boulder City, NV that has crystal chandeliers, gold plated taps in the bathroom and beautiful irridesent tiles," said one person. "The one in Asheville, NC near the Vanderbilt Mansion is even more fancy," claimed another. "There was a fancy one on Wall St. in NYC. Not sure if it's still around," questioned one more.

Either way, it's a fun little detour if you ever find yourself passing the McMansion on Long Island. Even if you're not the biggest McDonald's fan, it's hard to argue with the novelty of grabbing fries inside a centuries-old mansion. It's not your average fast food run, and that's exactly the point.

1967 Hit Ranked ‘Best Psychedelic Rock Song’ of the ’60s

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:12am

Psychedelic rock emerged in the 1960s as a reaction to the use of psychedelic drugs and the influence it was having on music production at the time. The subgenre can be characterized by the use of electronic and/or non-Western instrumentation, the incorporation of different sound effects, and more unconventional song structures.

The late '60s gave us some of the best psychedelic rock songs by the biggest names in rock music at the time, like The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Collider has taken it upon themselves to rank the top 10 best psychedelic rock songs of the '60s to spotlight the biggest influencers of the era and recognize the long-lasting impact of the genre.

The Beatles had two songs make the list, including "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "A Day in the Life" from their hit album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). Ranked at No. 6 is Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower," which is a great representation of Hendrix's powerful guitar skills and how a guitar solo is capable of replicating psychedelic rock features.

RELATED: 1990 Hit Ranked Best ‘Hair Metal Guitar Solo’ of All Time

The No. 1 best psychedelic rock song of the 1960s, according to Collider, is "The End" (1967) by the legendary American rock band The Doors, who are another group well-known for their ties to popularizing the psychedelic rock genre.

American rock band The Doors mirror their looks for a photoshoot, 1967. They are vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger.

Photo by Mark and Colleen Hayward/Getty Images

"It may be the wildest ride here, from Jim Morrison's abstruse and scene-painting lyrics (open to a variety of interpretations) to its heavily trippy atmosphere," Collider writes. "There are so many elements at play, but Robby Krieger's guitar is probably the most important aspect of the track's overall vibe. The song has its moments of high-energy and low-energy, but it somehow never loses itself so completely as to feel cheap or gimmicky. This is a watershed moment in psychedelic rock, an epic that's so grand and mysterious that it's quite possibly The Doors' greatest song — as well as the best song of its genre and time."

"The End" is the final song on The Doors' self-titled debut album, and clocks at 11 minutes and 43 seconds long. Lead singer Morrison wrote the song about his breakup with his ex-girlfriend, but mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview in 1969 how the song's meaning evolves every time he listens to it.

"Every time I hear that song, it means something else to me. I really don’t know what I was trying to say. It just started out as a simple goodbye song," Morrison said. "Probably just to a girl, but I could see how it could be goodbye to a kind of childhood. I really don’t know. I think it’s sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost anything you want it to be."

The song continues to hold a legacy as not just one of the greatest psychedelic rock songs, but also one of the greatest rock songs in general. In their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, Rolling Stone put "The End" at No. 336, praising the song for its "exploration of sexual taboos."

The Kitchen Is the New Nightclub: Knorr Is Betting Your Best Wingman Is a Fry Pan

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:12am

Citing a growing demand for in-person connection over digital interaction, food brand Knorr announced a national partnership with Eventbrite to launch a series of singles-focused social events. The program, titled Serving Singles, seeks to leverage the rising popularity of "culinary confidence" as a primary factor in modern relationship compatibility.

The premise is almost nostalgic: knowing your way around a stove is the ultimate "green flag." According to recent data, 80% of Americans agree that cooking is the secret sauce to winning someone over. It seems that in 2026, a well-executed carbonara carries more social currency than a curated profile picture.

"In a swipe-heavy dating world, confidence in the kitchen is the ultimate flex," Melanie Capella, Knorr's Chief Growth Officer said in a statement. "Knorr is inspiring singles to trade swipes for bold flavor, because real chemistry starts with cooking."

Knorr’s campaign aims to cooking skills in a new series of events. (Photo: Knorr)

The initiative is more than a fleeting hashtag; it’s an IRL intervention. With Eventbrite finding that 79% of 18-to-29-year-olds are craving in-person events to combat a rising sense of isolation, Knorr is staging a series of "flavor-first" activations across five U.S. hubs. From cooking classes in New York and Miami to speed dating in Chicago and a comedy show in Houston, the goal is to facilitate connections that are "seasoned to perfection."

The aim is to emphasize "practical life skills." The data suggests that 47% of singles find a good cook attractive because it demonstrates maturity and independence. It’s a return to lo-fi living, a rejection of the high-speed, low-reward nature of contemporary life.

Knorr is also tapping into the "Date My Friend" social trend, enlisting influencers like Rodrigo Reyes and Joe Ferrucci to showcase their single besties’ culinary prowess.

In the end, the dating pool can be remarkably similar to a kitchen: it can be messy, unpredictable, and full of questionable ingredients. But as this campaign suggests, when the right elements come together under a bit of heat, the result is "pure magic." If you're tired of the drama of the apps, it might be time to find someone who commits to you and a killer meal. Who knows? Love could be on the menu.

Henry Winkler Recalls Ron Howard ‘Panicking’ in Early Days of 'Happy Days'

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:11am

In 1976, Happy Days was the top-rated show on television. Starring Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham, Henry Winkler as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli, as well as Anson Williams, Donny Most, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, and Erin Moran, the 1950s-set series premiered in 1974 on ABC. And while it wasn’t Howard’s first TV series—as a child actor in the 1960s, he appeared in more than 200 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show—it was his first foray in front of a live studio audience.

By its third season in 1975-76, Happy Days went from a filmed single-camera comedy to a three-camera sitcom shot in front of a live audience. In an interview, show creator Garry Marshall revealed to The Television Academy Foundation that there were scenes they “couldn't do anymore because we were three-camera.”

Speaking with Woman’s Worldin an interview published in February 2026, Winkler, 80, recalled the switchover from a filmed show to a live taping in front of an audience—and how acting pro Howard initially struggled.

“Ron Howard was one of the best acting partners I’ve ever had in my career,” Winkler told the outlet. “Now here’s a guy who has never done theater before. He’s only done film, and I was trained in theater, but Ron had never done it before, and was really nervous, especially in 1975 when we went from doing it like a little movie to in front of an audience.”

“He was panicking,” Winkler continued. “And I’m telling you, things would come to me during the show, and I would just do them. I would not stop my imagination. And Ron went wherever I went. It was uncanny, and you could not fake it. You couldn’t make it up.”

Henry Winkler lost his acting partner in 1980

Happy Days aired for 11 seasons, from 1974 to 1984. While he appeared as Fonzie in all 11 seasons, Howard left the hit series in 1980 to pursue what would become a successful career as a movie director.

Winkler told People magazine that he got the news about Howard's impending exit minutes before it was picked up in the press. “There was a phone booth right by the front door of stage 19,” the actor recalled. “They said, ‘Oh, the phone is for you, Henry.’”

He added that the phone call was from Howard, who told him, “It’s  going to come out in the press in about 10 minutes, but I wanted you to know first, I'm not coming back.”

“My first thought was, 'I'm going to die now,'" Winkler admitted. “My great acting partner on this show, my good friend, is no longer going to be here. My life is over.’”

Winkler then snapped out of it and told his longtime friend, “Ron, we've talked about this since the beginning. All you want to do is be a director. It's in your DNA. Go and be the best you can be, and I cannot wait to see what you do.' "

Of his lightning-in-a-bottle connection with Howard, Winkler said, “We just clicked as acting partners. When we worked together, there was something that happens out of the blue. We had a shorthand with the script. He went where I went, I went where he went, and it became something else.”

Goldfish’s New Collab Encourages Fans to Play With Their Food

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:01am

Goldfish is teaming up with Campbell's to reimagine a classic in ways fans probably never thought possible (if they ever even thought of it).

With at least four more weeks of winter upon us—at least according to that groundhog's prediction—there are plenty more days that call for a comforting meal of Goldfish crackers saturated in Campbell's tomato soup. The popular wintertime pairing is about to earn a whole lot more "smiles back," too, with the first-ever Campbell's x Goldfish Games.

TLDR: The two pantry staples want consumers to play with their food.

"Goldfish has always been about creating moments of joy and connection," Mike Fanelli, senior director, marketing at Goldfish, explained in a statement shared with Parade. "This collaboration reimagines family mealtime with a playful twist, turning a classic comfort food pairing into a chance to laugh, play, and make memories together."

Goldfish Teams Up With Campbell's Tomato Soup for the "Goldfish Games"

While it may sound like a subtle nod to the winter Olympics, the Campbell's x Goldfish Games are actually a series of games, according to the Feb. 18 press release. The two companies not only reimagined an iconic game everyone knows, but also developed one of their own that's fun for all ages.

Related: Goldfish Gets New ‘Seasoned’ Variations: A ‘Bold’ First

"There’s something special about the simple comfort of Campbell’s soup and Goldfish crackers – they just belong together," Becky Duke, senior brand director at Campbell’s, added. "With this collaboration, we wanted to give fans a new way to enjoy that classic pairing, turning the familiar into something fun and unexpected."

As part of the new collaboration, fans will soon be able to purchase two Campbell's x Goldfish Games: the reimagined "Fish in a Row" or brand-new "Soup Splashers."

Fish in a Row offers a "flavorful take on a connecting classic," per the official description. Players set the game above their bowl of Campbell’s soup and win when they line up four Goldfish crackers before their opponent. When they want to play again, they can "reset" the game by dropping the crackers into the soup below.

Campbell's x Goldfish Games: Fish in a Row

G

In Soup Splashers, players are trying to keep their fish afloat, balancing the Goldfish crackers on the fishbowl, or they’ll all splash into the Campbell’s soup below.

Campbell's x Goldfish Games: Fish in a Row (L), Soup Splashers (R).

G

While Goldfish crackers and Campbell's soup can be found at most retailers (big and small) nationwide, the two games will only be available via the official Campbell's x Goldfish Games website.

A limited number of daily drops will be released weekdays at 10:00 a.m. EST beginning today, Feb. 18, through Tuesday, Feb. 24. During this time, fans can pre-order either game for $19.99 while supplies last. Each game is sold separately and includes a package of the original Goldfish crackers and a can of Campbell’s tomato soup.

Given how quickly the limited-edition Goldfish car mats sold out last summer, fans looking to score the game (and included goodies) should set an alarm the day of the drop (and thereafter until they're either successful or give up).
