An Etiquette Expert Warns Against This One Common ‘Polite Behavior’ in 2026—Here’s Why
As a child, your parents may have told you to mind your manners—to say please and thank you, hello and goodbye, etc. And as an etiquette expert, Rosalinda Randall isn't against embracing these polite habits.
"While it may have felt like pressure as a child, it cemented a foundation on how to treat others," she tells Parade. "As we mature and experience different personalities, we learn to adjust. Being polite shouldn’t feel pressured. It should be second nature. If forced, it’ll be obvious and fake."
According to Randall, a big issue with "politeness" is that she fears the definition of "polite" gets lost in translation as we grow and society shapes us.
"Some people confuse politeness with weakness, and that’s when it can affect one’s well-being," she says.
She shares that it doesn't help that the definition of what's considered polite can vary from person to person. Still, she warns that sometimes polite behaviors send a message to others that you're someone who can be "cornered, manipulated or dismissed."
That is probably not what you're going for, and even Randall is team "put your oxygen mask on first."
"I don’t believe we are responsible for anyone else’s well-being other than trying to be aware of signals and responding accordingly," Randall shares.
Part of owning your well-being and returning another person's to sender is understanding how certain habits aren't as well-mannered as we think they are. Instead, they may put our own sanity at risk and do very little to help someone else. Never is that more evident than in one common "polite behavior," which Randall warns against using in 2026. Here's why.
Related: 9 Workplace Habits That Make You ‘Instantly Unlikable,’ According to Etiquette Experts
The #1 'Polite Behavior' To Ditch in 2026, According to an Etiquette ExpertSorry, not sorry, but Randall is begging people to work on saying, "I'm sorry," as a reflex.
"If 'sorry' is used in most of your conversations, it is officially your filler word; similar to the word 'like' many people use," she explains.
She concedes that people use "I'm sorry" for several reasons.
"Saying 'sorry' can soften a situation," she reports. "Upbringing and cultural background can influence our speech patterns and, sometimes, it’s a habit that helps us feel polite."
Related: How To Stop Worrying That Someone Is Mad at You, According to a Psychologist

The problem is that it can affect your relationships with others, who may find the habit grating rather than polite.
"It can become a game," she notes. "Admittedly, I’ve done it once or twice. The receiver loses interest in the topic of conversation and begins focusing on and counting how many times the word is used."
That's certainly bad news in the workplace.
"It can also diminish the social or professional status of a person who overuses any phrase or word," she warns. "It can give the impression of lacking confidence, being unprepared or unsure of oneself. "
But one of the biggest issues with "I'm sorry" is that it can affect any personal relationship because people will become so numb to you saying those two words that they don't think your apologies are genuine.
"When it really matters, you may have to amp up your apology to differentiate it from your conversational 'sorry,'" Randall notes.
The good news is that habits can be broken. She suggests asking yourself why you're using it. Is it for politeness? Do you need to yield to others? Are you hoping for gentler treatment? Once you've determined your "why?" you can take practical steps to silence your "I'm sorry."
"Instead of an old-school 'swear jar,' have a 'sorry' jar," she suggests. "When you feel that word 'sorry' slipping out, shut your lips and nod instead."
Alternatively, Randall suggests taking a breath before speaking.

3 Other Common 'Polite' Behaviors To Stop 1. Speaking up on someone else’s behalfThere is certainly a time and place for this, but advocating for someone else requires knowledge of the situation and the people involved. It has to be intentional.
"Interjecting yourself as their advocate might make you feel like a hero," Randall says. "But when you don't know why the person isn't speaking up... it can backfire or put you in an awkward position."
She shares that you might discreetly offer your assistance before playing advocate.
2. Accepting disrespect so that you don’t rock the boatIt's possible to set boundaries without making a scene (what someone else does is out of your control).
"Take immediate action by calmly stating, 'I don’t participate in unproductive conversations. When you’ve gathered your thoughts, I’d be glad to resume this conversation,'" Randall says. "It’s clear and polite."

3. Extending your pinkie in the airRandall says it's a misconception that this "polite" behavior is high-brow.
"In Roman times, commoners used their five fingers to eat," Randall says. "A cultured person ate with only three fingers, so they wouldn’t soil their ring finger or pinkie. Because we have dining utensils, it is no longer necessary. In fact, it looks pretentious."

3 Quick Etiquette Tips To Keep in Mind for Any Life Situation1. Reply. Respond. RSVP.Randall is begging people not to leave others hanging.
"Not replying to a text or email shows a lack of respect for the other person," Randall says.
It's far worse than no, which isn't rude.
"Wouldn’t you rather hear a definite 'no' than sit there and wonder?" she asks rhetorically.
She suggests sending a polite response, such as:
- “We went another direction."
- "My focus is elsewhere for the time being."
- “My schedule doesn’t permit me to add anything else.”
"This will satisfy the person and get them off your back," Randall explains.
2. Add attitude and effort to your attireRandall has noticed the PJ-bottom trend. Her take?
"Like it or not, it’s a thing," Randall shares. "I have one hard rule: Don’t go out in public in the pair you slept in. You may disagree, but they stink, and they look sloppy. "
On that note, she advises that you follow the dress code—so, if a fashion trend doesn't fit your super-corporate company culture, PJ bottoms are best saved for when you're off the clock.
"Attitude and effort simply show that you care about yourself," Randall states. "Pick the right fabric, color and fit. Pair it with a more structured top and stylish tennis shoes. This equals comfort while expressing your attitude about how you present yourself to the world."
3. Be more mindful of brief responsesRandall gets it. We're busy, and emojis, acronyms and fonts save time. However, she warns that we can cross lines with a person and cause issues that weren't there.
"Use them wisely," Randall implores. "If the tone or topic of the conversation changes, change with it. Consider clearer and extended responses."
Try to read the room or between the lines of written communication.
"Follow their lead," Randall shares. "Reply in kind. If they use abbreviations or emojis, it means they understand it and are OK with it."

HGTV's Christina Haack Reveals What She Would Change About the 'Bachelor' Mansion If Given the Chance
While we wait impatiently for the next season of HGTV's The Flip Off, which pits Christina Haack against ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife Heather Rae El Moussa in the house flipping biz (good-naturedly, of course), Haack has been busy. Namely, she appeared as a guest judge in the second episode ofBachelor Mansion Takeover.
If you watched the episode, you know that the design expert was pretty shocked at the current state of the infamous mansion before Bachelor Nation stars did their best to freshen it up. When Parade ran into Haack at the estate to celebrate the series, she was not shy about what she'd do to the place.
"There's a lot I would do," Haack tells Parade. "It would take a lot of money. Maybe they'll hire me next round."
View this post on InstagramThis is a woman who knows her stuff, both about home renovation and champagne. At the Bachelor Mansion Takeover party, Haack was armed with bottles of her other passion project—Clé Cachée, a Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs that's 100% Chardonnay.
"I've always been a champagne girl," she says. "I love champagne, and honestly, there's not that many brands that I like. My specific goal for the brand was to find the best quality grape, that way we didn't have to add a lot of extra sugar. Because the grape quality is so high, we only had to add three grams of sugar to a whole bottle. That's less than one Starburst candy."
Where to Get a Taste of Clé CachéeIf you follow Haack on social media, you know she's been working overtime to expand distribution of Clé Cachée so that more people can enjoy it (she offered me a glass and it really is delicious). With that in mind she's focusing much of her summer on getting her brand into more Orange County, Calif. beach hotels and her favorite dining spots.
"When I share this champagne with girlfriends, they always text the next day with the best compliment," Haack says. "They'll say, 'Normally, if I have one glass, I'm hungover. But I had three glasses, and I actually feel perfectly fine. That's a true testament to the quality of the grapes and not having to add a lot of sugar. And it's so nice to hear."
Catch Bachelor Mansion Takeover on HGTV on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Al Pacino and his on-again, off-again girlfriendNoor Alfallah are raising a little one together, and they're having a great time doing it!
The legendary actor, 85, known for diverse roles ranging from The Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon to Carlito’s Way and Scent of a Woman, is currently raising a child with Alfallah, 32. The couple, who welcomed a young son named Roman in 2023, enjoyed a night of Oscar parties together and chronicled their celebrations in a series of photos that were posted to Alfallah's Instagram account. While the duo supposedly had broken up, it appears they're either back together or just enjoying a night out on the town.

Who is Anton and Olivia Pacino’s Mother, Beverly D’Angelo?Anton and Olivia Pacino’s mother is none other than beloved actress Beverly D’Angelo, who welcomed twins at 49 with Pacino, her then-partner. The star originated the role of Ellen Griswold alongside Chevy Chase‘s Clark W. Griswold in the first National Lampoon’s Vacation film in 1983 and played the iconic role of Ellen in several follow-ups, including 1989’s beloved holiday version, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Despite being a Hollywood success story, D’Angelo says she maintained traditional family values despite her untraditional path to parenthood.
“I had kids really late — I gave birth to twins six weeks after I turned 49,” she told Fox News Digital. “It was really important to me to place them at the center of my world. So, I wouldn’t do any films that would take me out of town for any amount of time. I did television, I did some indie films and things like that, but my focus was really to always be emotionally and physically available to my kids.”

1975 No. 1 Soft Rock Hit Became a Timeless Classic
Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille — better known as Captain & Tennille — were married on November 11, 1974, and had their first big hit the next year with “Love Will Keep Us Together.” But while it would make sense to assume that the song's lyrics were inspired by the couple's real-life romance, they didn't actually write the chart-topper.
"Love Will Keep Us Together" was a cover of a Neil Sedaka song which appeared on his 1974 compilation album Sedaka's Back (but wasn't released as a single). Captain & Tennille's version, which was the title track on their debut album, went straight to the top of the charts upon its release in 1975, hitting #1 on both the Billboard Easy Listening and pop charts and landing the top spot on the year-end chart.
Not only was the song the best-selling single of 1975, but it also won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year, according to Billboard, and kicked off a memorable run of top five hits including “The Way I Want to Touch You," “Lonely Nights (Angel Face)” (also written by Sedaka), and “Shop Around." Captain & Tennille even ended up getting their own TV variety show.
Pretty impressive for a song Tennille apparently nailed in one take.
"I'm a one take person," the singer explained in an interview with Gary James in the late '90s.
"I'll get it within one or two takes," she continued. "There's a school of thought about recording that came from Karen and Richard Carpenter, and Richard Carpenter in particular as a producer. And this is a valid school of thought. Richard would have Karen sing over and over again and he would punch in until he got exactly the way he wanted it — one word, or one note. Consequently, all of their recordings are perfection...absolute perfection. You cannot hear a flaw anywhere. But my philosophy is I want the performance. I want it to be all of one, all in one. I don't care if there's a little glitch here or a little attack of a note that's not quite perfect. If the emotion is there, if the feeling is there, that's what I go for."
"Now both are equally valid," Tennille added. "It's just a style that you choose. Daryl has always understood that I'm a performance person. When I go out to do a concert, I don't get to do two or three takes. I go out there and that's it. I believe a recording should be the same. That's just my philosophy."
Unfortunately, while love kept Dragon and Tennille together as a couple for four decades, they did end up getting a divorce in 2014. Their biggest hit is still going strong, however; at the time of this writing, "Love Will Keep Us Together" has been streamed 125,827,049 times on Spotify.
Classic Rock Band Announces Final Tour After 54 Years
After more than five decades on the road, Orleans has announced that 2026 will be its final year as a touring band.
In a message shared with fans, longtime member Lance Hoppen confirmed the decision, writing, “For a variety of reasons, I've decided that this will be the final year for Orleans as a live band. It's not a decision that has been made quickly nor lightly.”

Over the years, the band built a loyal following through constant touring and a sound that blended pop, rock and country influences.
Hoppen acknowledged the difficulty of stepping away, noting both the joy of performing and the growing challenges of life on the road.

The band plans to remain active throughout the year, with more than 40 shows currently scheduled. Their final run is set to conclude in March 2027 aboard the Rock 'n' Romance cruise, giving fans one last chance to see the group perform live.
Hoppen also took time to reflect on the band’s long history and the people who helped shape it, offering special thanks to founding members John Hall, Wells Kelly and his late brother Larry Hoppen.

According to reviewers, it's most comfortable when just six people are seated, since you get a little bit more elbow room. If it gets dusty or dirty from being outdoors, all you have to do is wipe it regularly to ensure it stays clean. The metal legs are 2.4 inches thick, so they're fairly stable, and have adjustable foot pads on each. Plus, the table comes with a manual and tools that allow for easy assembly.
Shoppers say it can be assembled hastily, but one did use a drill instead of the provided tools to make the process quicker. We just advise proceeding with caution on that advice as to not ruin the material. Other customers described the piece as "perfect," "absolutely beautiful," and "well-constructed."

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli SplitIn October 2025, Loughlin and her husband of 28 years, Mossimo Giannulli, announced their separation. Reports suggest the two are living apart but not rushing into a divorce.
The fallout comes six years after the college admissions scandal, called Varisty Blues, which saw Loughlin and several other celebrities, including Felicity Huffman, face jail time for lying to get their children into big-name universities.
In May 2020, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud after allegedly paying $500,000 to a college consultant who fraudulently listed their daughters, Olivia Jade, 26, and Isabella Rose Giannulli, 27, as recruits for the University of Southern California’s crew team. Neither daughter ever actually participated in the sport.
Loughlin served two months, while Giannulli served five months in prison.
"Lori is still extremely angry with him," a source told People of the estranged exes. "Things have never been the same after weathering the college admission fallout and the prison sentences together."
Lori Loughlin Returns to 'When Calls the Heart'Fans of the show are excited to learn that Loughlin will be back for Season 14 of Hallmark's When Calls the Heart, which begins filming next year.
“Since the series’ debut in 2014, the character of Abigail Stanton was a fan favorite and beloved by the Hearties,” Michelle Vicary, Hallmark Media’s head of programming, told People in a statement. “At its core the Hallmark brand is about hope, positivity, and connection, which is also the central theme of When Calls the Heart. We felt that Season 14 was the right time to continue Abigail’s story with her return to this beloved series.”

Folk Rock Legend, 86, Announces 2026 Farewell Tour 51 Years After Classic Platinum Album
From Journey to the Eagles to Barry Manilow and more, so many major names in music have chosen 2026 as their final year on the road...and now another legendary musician has announced a farewell tour.
Singer-songwriter and folk-rock icon Judy Collins, 86, will be heading out on her last-ever jaunt with the "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes" tour this year. As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, Collins will prepare with some "warmup" shows in June, with the tour officially kicking off the next month on July 4 at the "America Made in Virginia: 250 Years Together" celebration in Williamsburg, Virginia.
While dates are scheduled all over the U.S. through Nov. 29 at this time, more shows are still to be announced. After the main tour, Collins will keep the music going with "a series of encore performances for devoted fans and new audiences alike" dubbed the "Sweet Judy Blue Eyes — Celebration Encore."
View this post on InstagramCollins will be joined by a series of special guests throughout the tour, including Bruce Cockburn, Richard Thompson, the High Kings, Elles Bailey, Livingston Taylor and others.
As for what fans can expect to hear on this tour, Collins has decades of music to draw from, with some of her biggest hits including her 1968 cover of "Both Sides, Now" by Joni Mitchell and her 1975 cover of Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns," released on her bestselling platinum album Judith. (Her latest release was 2022's Spellbound, which was her first ever full album of original material.)
Judy Collins got her start in the '60s Greenwich Village folk sceneIn a 2022 interview with UCR, Collins opened up about the "camaraderie" she felt with other folk singers — including Bob Dylan — as part of the Greenwich Village scene in the 1960s.
"There was a lot of going down to the park there and playing on a Sunday," Collins recalled. "And drinking a lot in the clubs and going to hear all your favorite singers. I wasn't home all the time, but I was home enough to get — I did have an apartment in the Village for a couple of years from '63 to '65 on 135 West 10th...so I was sort of in the thick of it, and I'd wake up and go to breakfast at one of the funky joints, I can't remember the name of it now, but it was very social and very interactive. And of course, I heard a lot of songs that I recorded."
"The village is where all of the artists that he represented were either singing or performing or living or in the case of [Bob] Dylan — Dylan always has a question in his little book about his songwriting, I think he calls it Chronicles One — and he says he started out as somebody who was homeless and singing old Woody Guthrie," Collins continued. "That's when I met him, when he was Robert Zimmerman. I met him in Colorado a couple of times and then when I got to New York in '61, and was singing at Gerde's Folk City, he was still there, still homeless and still singing these old Woody Guthrie [songs]."
Fans hoping to catch Collins on her final tour can find ticket information on her official website. Tickets are on sale now.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy Update: Retired K-9 Officer Slams Investigators Not Using Cadaver Dogs—'Defies Logic'
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing more than six weeks after the abduction from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a retired K-9 officer recently slammed investigators for not using cadaver dogs.
In a March 9 article from Fox News Digital, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that although cadaver dogs had been deployed earlier in 84-year-old's case, the canines have not been seen in recent weeks. They are available if needed in the future,” Nanos confirmed.
In a Tuesday, March 17 article, Fox News Digital spoke to Michael Gould, a former K-9 officer with the Nassau County Police Department and the New York Police Department.
"We're just chasing shadows," Gould said of the move to hold the cadaver dogs.
Additionally, he pointed out, "Cadaver dogs, [or] human remains detection dogs, they are the primary technology available to humans to detect odor of people missing. They're considered in court a scientific instrument. So why the sheriff chose not to use them, I don't understand."

Gould continued, "I stretch my head to think, without him guiding us, giving us answers to this, I can't think of any other rationale why you would say we're putting cadaver dogs on hold. It defies logic."
Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on the evening of Jan. 31, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) embarking on its search on Feb. 1. Despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward for information leading to the recovery of her mother, no suspect has been publicly named.

Costco Brings Back Fan-Favorite All-Butter Pound Cake to Nationwide Stores
Everyone has their favorite desserts when it comes to Costco's famously diverse lineup of bakery items. For some, it might be the tasty balance between the brand's signature key lime pie. For others, it might be the crisp, slightly spicy nuttiness of Kirkland's carrot cake.
For still others, their go-to bakery item might take the form of Costco's All-Butter Pound Cake, a new arrival to the warehouse supplier's stores that is already creating ample buzz across social media.
An inventive twist on previous iterations of Costco's Pound Cake, the company's new All-Butter Pound Cake delivers the signature sweetness of traditional pound cake, along with the creaminess of its buttered textured.
What follows is a delightful, endlessly soft pound cake that's perfect on it own, or served alongside fresh fruit, including freshly chopped strawberries (our favorite), blackberries, raspberries and so many others.
As expected from a dessert as nostalgic-sounding as this, news of the All-Butter Pound Cake's arrival has already met with a mostly positive response across social media.
Last year, several users were quick to point out the similarities between the new Pound Cake and various similarly-themed desserts that came before it, as seen through the comments' section to one particular post on Costcobuys.
In particular, most commenters mentioned that Costco offered a pack of three loafs for around $10 a few years ago. As one fan mentioned, "Those are so good but they need to go back to making the 3 Pack again."
At an average price of $6.99, however, many felt the new loaf more than lived up to its predecessors, making it a must-buy for anyone with an avid sweet tooth who wanders into their local Costco.
"Tried it for the first time on vacation and thought it was only in their local store not in my home store - SO GOOD!" another user offered.

A flattering midi length completes the look, and because it's not too short or too long, it can be a suitable choice for people of most heights. Costco Brought Out 'High-Quality' Yeti Gear for Camping Season—and the Price Is Right
As the weather warms up in the United States, the promise of long weekends, beach days or backyard barbecues with friends is getting everyone excited. Shoppers are spotting a cult-favorite essential at Costco that's getting a lot of attention for its durability, performance and overall reputation. And it's here just in time for the start of camping season. So tempting!
User @costcohotfinds alerted Costco shoppers that the Yeti Tundra 65 Cooler is now popping up at Costco in a sleek desert tan color. Known as one of the brand's most popular models, this Yeti cooler is listed for $299 at Costco. At other retailers, it can cost nearly $400.
Why This Yeti Cooler Stands Out View this post on InstagramThere's a reason the Yeti Tundra 65 Cooler has such a strong reputation among campers and outdoor enthusiasts. It's designed with serious performance in mind, including thick insulated walls and an even more insulated lid that helps keep ice frozen for days.
That kind of performance makes it a true camping must-have, especially for longer trips where access to fresh ice isn't guaranteed. Whether you're heading out for a multiday camping adventure or just hosting a backyard gathering, having a cooler that can actually keep up is a game changer.
Durability is another major selling point. This isn't your average lightweight cooler—it's built using a rugged construction method similar to what's used in whitewater kayaks. That means it's designed to handle rough conditions, heavy use and years of wear and tear.

The Costco Find Shoppers Are Talking AboutOf course, quality like this usually comes with a higher price tag. That's why spotting this Yeti cooler at Costco feels like such a win. Priced around $299, it's noticeably lower than what you might find at other retailers, where it can climb closer to $400.
Shoppers are already calling it a great value for the level of performance you're getting. While some note that it's on the heavier side, many say that's part of what makes it so durable—and worth bringing along for serious outdoor use.
It's also versatile enough to use beyond camping. Think beach days, road trips, or even keeping drinks cold during summer parties. Once you have one, it quickly becomes a go-to staple.
If you've been waiting for the right moment to invest in a high-quality camping must-have, this Costco find might be it. Between the trusted performance, long-lasting durability and lower-than-usual price, it's easy to see why shoppers are adding it to their carts just in time for camping season.

This 1992 'Seinfeld' Episode Won an Emmy and Ranked 'Best TV Episode of All Time'
Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David developed what is often known as one of the best TV sitcoms of all time with Seinfeld. Among its multiple episodes, one was ranked as having been among the best to ever be released on TV and won an Emmy for its creative writing.
It's 1992, and Seinfeld is in full swing with its fourth season on cable TV, and it releases the most talked-about episode, "The Contest." Released as the 51st overall episode for the sitcom, Seinfeld and David had to come up with a few euphemisms for the overall storyline concept. The episode focused on Jerry, Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), George (Jason Alexander), and Kramer (Michael Richards) entering a contest amongst themselves after George is caught by his mother in a promiscuous encounter with a Glamour magazine.
They enter a "contest" to see who can last the longest without self-gratifying themselves, or, in other terms, masturbating. The problem was that NBC thought using the word "masturbation" on primetime TV wasn't the right move and instead had the writers come up with catchphrases. As a result, the popular term "master of my domain" was created and became a popular line from Seinfeld.
The episode soon focused on each character's struggles of staying in the contest, with Kramer having been the first to cave, and then Elaine when she learns John F. Kennedy Jr. is interested in her. Jerry, on the other hand, happens to be dating a virgin during the whole ordeal. By the end of the episode, it's believed that George won the infamous contest, and it's later debunked during the Seinfeld two-part series finale.

"The Contest" ended up being a hit, and David won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. The episode's long-lasting popularity and impressive writing led it to be ranked as one of the "best TV episodes of all time" by Rolling Stone. It landed at No. 5, with it being reported to have been watched, at the time, by over 18.5 million people. It was also said that David fought for the episode to be aired, but NBC already knew it was going to be a hit.
The Top 5 list of the best TV episodes also includes "The College" from The Sopranos at No. 4, The Leftovers with "International Assassin" at No. 3, The Simpsons with "Last Exit to Springfield" at No. 2, and Breaking Bad's "Ozymandias" landing at No.1.
Beloved ’70s Actress, With Award-Winning Roles, Turns 72
Happy Birthday, Lesley-Anne Down! You made the ‘70s awesome.
The beloved 70s British actress, born and raised in London, made her acting debut in the 1969 drama The Smashing Bird I Used to Know.
Over the decades, Down lent her acting chops to numerous films and television series, steadily expanding her portfolio. Assault, Countess Dracula, and Pope Joan, Upstairs, Downstairs were among the many projects that helped find her footing in the treacherous entertainment industry.
But it was her performance in titles like The Great Train Robbery, North and South, The Bold And The Beautiful, among others, that landed her widespread recognition and the love of fans.
Down won her first British Film Award in 1978 for Most Promising Newcomer, followed by Golden Globe nominations for North and South, a Soap Opera Sweep for Sunset Beach, and more recognition pouring in. The Bold and the Beautiful brought the most love and accolades, including the TV Soap Golden Boomerang Award and Rose d'Or Light Entertainment Festival.
As impressive as her ability to slip into and own every role she played was her ethereal beauty — a pale complexion, big brown eyes, a cut-glass accent, and the confidence to command any room she walked into.
Before Down became a name in cinema, her heart belonged to the familiar world of modelling. In her teens, she bagged multiple beauty pageants, and by the age of 15, she held the crown of Britain’s most beautiful teenager.
But her unmatched beauty and big American dream came with a steep price tag. Down faced sexual harassment on several occasions. In an interview with DailyMail, Down recalled one of the earliest encounters, involving a Hollywood legend.
“One night he was screening The Poseidon Adventure and he said, ‘Come and sit next to me.’ He then added, ‘Have some popcorn,’ so I put my hand in the carton and just froze. He’d put his penis up through the bottom of the carton and my hand was now touching it. I just remember being there for what seemed like an eternity, slowly moving my hand away and trying to lean away from him.”
She continued: “I didn’t tell anyone. At the time, you just thought that this was how they behaved and you had to find a way to circumnavigate it. But if one per cent of what was being perpetrated on actresses back then was punished, the entire male film industry would have been in jail for a minimum of 12 years.”
Beyond forging a successful career, Down had a rather tumultuous love life. After ending a 10-year relationship with actor-writer Bruce Robinson for good, she married Argentine assistant director Henrique Gabriel in 1979. A year and a half later, she left him for film director William Friedkin, to whom she remained married until 1985.
Later, while filming the TV miniseries North and South, Down fell for cinematographer Don E. FauntLeRoy, who would become her husband. Their relationship wasn’t without its complications, but the couple has built a life together and shares a son, George-Edward FauntLeRoy.
Lesley-Anne Down was most recently seen in the 2024 biographical film Reagan, in which she portrayed Margaret Thatcher.

‘90s Rock Guitarist Announces News Amid Band's Tour Plans
There’s big news for fans of Radiohead.
Guitarist Ed O’Brien just announced the release of his second solo album, Blue Morpho, which is due on May 22.
But O’Brien isn’t only talking about his solo material. He revealed to Rolling Stone that Radiohead plans to play another 20 shows in 2027. That follows the band’s much-anticipated return to concert stages last year when Radiohead played four shows in five different European cities.
“It’s definitely happening. What we’re going to do is, every year we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less,” he told Rolling Stone, though he added that the band has no plans to tour this year.
That’ll give O’Brien time to focus on promoting his second solo album. His first effort, 2020’s Earth, was released to critical acclaim under the name EOB, leaving O’Brien to regret he didn’t pursue the solo waters sooner.
O’Brien was inspired on his second effort by Kentucky poet and farmer Wendell Berry’s quote: “To know the dark, go dark.” He expanded on that concept in a post on his official Instagram account. "These songs came out of a dark place, but as Wendell Berry writes, ‘the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.’ There was deep beauty and a profound sense of grace in that place," he explained.
Blue Morpho was co-written and produced by Paul Epworth, known for his work with Paul McCartney and Adele, who O’Brien met through a chance run-in at their children’s school.
The guitarist announced the release of the album on his official Instagram account on March 17, writing, "I hope you’re holding up — thriving, even, when you can. These feel like very strange and turbulent times to be living through. And yet, here we all are, still making things, and still trying to reach out to one another."
Blue Morpho isn’t just an album. An accompanying short film titled Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play, premiered at SXSW on March 17 and will be released simultaneously with the album. There will be screening events for the film held in London on March 24, Paris on March 25, and Oxford, England on March 26. Those who sign up for O'Brien's mailing list will have a chance to attend the London or Paris screenings. Tickets for Oxford are on sale soon.
Blue Morpho will be released on CD, cassette, LP, an indie exclusive Transfiguration Edition LP on orange vinyl and an artist store exclusive Flutter By Edition on cream colored vinyl. A limited-edition blue 7-inch single of “Blue Morpho” is also available as part of the LP album bundle on the artist store while supplies last.
O'Brien also hinted that he plans to support the album with some upcoming live dates. "Later in the year, we will be playing these songs live. We would love to share them with you in a room somewhere out there," he wrote on Instagram.
The single and its accompanying video were released on March 17.
On This Date in 1979, an Iconic '70s Band Released Their Last Top 10 Hit
In 1979, the Village People released "In the Navy," the first single off their album, Go West. Despite the band blowing up just a couple of years earlier, Go West was already the disco band's fourth album. They ended up releasing five more albums over the next several years, but "In the Navy" was the Village People's last top ten hit.
The song was popular worldwide and hit No. 1 on many other countries' charts, including Canada. However, it only reached No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Ironically, even though the band is known for "Macho Man," "Go West," and "Ready For The 80's," it had only had two songs that reached Billboard's top ten. "Y.M.C.A.," the Village People's monster hit -- and most recognizable -- actually only reached No. 2.
When most hear the music and lyrics to "In the Navy," they don't think of it as a recruitment song for the actual US Navy. But apparently, the Navy did, and reached out to the band. Henri Belolo, who co-created the Village People with Jacques Morali, recalled how it all came about and why it fell apart.
"I had a call from an advertising company that was in charge of budget of the American Navy," he told DJ History (via Red Bull Music Academy). "The recruiting was going down and they wanted to do some advertisement for young people to engage in the Navy. They told me, “We love your song. We think it can be a perfect spot for Navy recruitment.”
He went to the Pentagon to talk about what the band needed to make it happen. He asked for planes to fly overhead and 200 Navy sailors to appear in the music video. He got everything he asked for, and they shot the video on the USS Reasoner, which was stationed in San Diego. But once the commercial began airing, the Navy faced backlash.
"The New York Times, The Washington Post make the headlines that 'The American Navy is using the tax money of the people to finance a video clip of a group with unknown sexual...'" Belolo explained. "So, the Navy cancelled their advertisement, and they said that it was for budgetary reasons."
Iconic ’80s Singer Pays Tribute to Legendary Rocker 3 Years After His Death
Bruce Springsteen, the legendary singer-songwriter who dominated the rock music scene across several decades, has released a cover of The Pogue's "A Rainy Night in Soho" (1986) as a touching tribute to the band's late frontman, Shane MacGowan, who died in 2023 at the age of 65.
The cover is part of a larger tribute album titled 20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan, which has tapped major names such as Hozier, recent Oscar winner Jessie Buckley, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss and more as contributors on the album that honors the life and legacy of MacGowan, who was a trailblazer during the punk music movement in the '80s and '90s as he sang about Irish nationalism and history.
In a statement published by Springsteen in 2023 after MacGowan's death, the American rocker wrote, "Shane was one of my all-time favorite writers. The passion and deep intensity of his music and lyrics is unmatched by all but the very best in the rock and roll canon. I was fortunate to spend a little time with Shane and his lovely wife Victoria the last time we were in Dublin. He was very ill, but still beautifully present in his heart and spirit. His music is timeless and eternal. I don’t know about the rest of us, but they’ll be singing Shane’s songs 100 years from now."
Along with releasing a cover of "A Rainy Night in Soho," Bruce Springsteen has penned a new tribute to Shane MacGowan.
"Every once in a while, every once in a great while an artist comes along whose voice seems to speak to history itself. Woody Guthrie, Jimmy Rogers, Little… pic.twitter.com/gOSzXebJcZ
The song "A Rainy Night in Soho" was originally released by MacGowan's band The Pogues in 1986 as part of their EP Poguetry in Motion. Springsteen's version of the song joins a collection of covers performed by other major artists over the years, including Depp, Bono and Bob Dylan.
The English and Irish musician was a talented lyricist who strived to tell the stories of Irish immigrants and national pride. MacGowan's contributions to Irish culture through his music are evident in his various critically acclaimed songs and albums, including The Pogues' 1988 album If I Should Fall from Grace with God and the controversial song "Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six" (1988). He also wrote the popular song "Fairtytale of New York" (1987) — a fan-favorite Christmastime tune and the U.K.'s most-played of its kind of the 21st century.
MacGowan struggled with severe alcohol and drug abuse throughout his life, as well as a series of health issues which interfered with his quality of life. Following a fall in 2015, he was forced to use a wheelchair up until his death in 2023. In 2022, MacGowan was diagnosed with viral encephalitis, which is the inflammation of the brain. The following year, MacGowan died from pneumonia, but not before several celebrities and artists visited him while he underwent hospital treatment, including Springsteen and his Pogues bandmates Terry Woods and Spider Stacy.
20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan will be released on Nov. 13.
Disturbing New 'The Price Is Right' Allegations Exposed in Behind-the-Scenes Docuseries
America's favorite TV game show The Price Is Right, with its host Bob Barker and his lively "Come on down!" antics, seemed like a fun place to be, but revelations from staff and cast seem to tell a different story. As part of a new docuseries, several new disturbing backstage tales from The Price Is Right are coming to light, including allegations of a hostile work environment, discrimination, and sexual harassment.
In the latest from the Dirty Rotten Scandals series on E!, which has already reported new, behind-the-scenes bombshells from The Dr. Phil Show and America's Next Top Model, several former staffers and models from The Price Is Right openly discuss the atmosphere on set. Historically speaking, this was quite a common occurrence. Women were still not actively protected against sexual harassment in the workplace in the 70s and 80s, despite the laws in place, and many cases were either ignored or swept under the rug.
Among others, former producer, Barbara Hunter, and two models from Barker's famed lineup of “Beauties"—Holly Hallstrom (1977–1995) and Kathleen Bradley (1990–2000)—are interviewed in the documentary. They allege several eyebrow-raising stories from their experiences working at the game show, detailing incidents of overt gawking, groping, and feeling forced to take harassment matters into their own hands.
That said, not every story covered in the docuseries is an untold one. The case of Dian Parkinson (1975–1993) is discussed in the show although the former model does not appear for a current interview. Parkinson famously sued Barker for sexual harassment in 1994, an allegation that included 18-month affair with the host, but she dropped her case in 1995. The docuseries also notes that she has not publicly commented on the latest revelations.
