Virus Outbreak at Beach Vacation Hot Spot Sparks U.S. Travel Advisory
If you've been daydreaming about white sand, turquoise waters and a relaxing beach vacation, you might want to hit pause for a minute. The U.S. government has just issued a travel warning for a popular island paradise, and it's all because of a virus outbreak that has health officials paying extra attention. Don't panic, but a little heads-up never hurts before you pack your sunscreen.
What Travelers Need to Know About the Seychelles Travel WarningThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 advisory for Seychelles due to an outbreak of the chikungunya virus. This virus is spread by mosquitoes, and while it isn't something you can catch by touching someone, it can cause fever and serious joint pain. Other symptoms include headaches, muscle aches, rashes, fatigue and nausea. The word chikungunya actually comes from a term that means "bent over" because of how painful the joint swelling can be.
A Level 2 travel warning doesn't mean stay home forever. Instead, travelers are encouraged to take enhanced precautions. That includes using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, staying in air-conditioned places or making sure your hotel has screens on the windows and doors. Pregnant women are advised to think twice before visiting, since infection near the time of delivery could put babies at risk. Most healthy travelers recover in about a week, though joint pain can linger for longer.

Even with the virus outbreak, you don't have to cancel your dream trip if you take the right steps. Getting vaccinated against chikungunya is recommended, and bringing along strong mosquito repellent can make a big difference. Covering up during peak mosquito hours and choosing accommodations with AC or window screens helps keep bites at bay.
The Seychelles are known for their incredible beaches, snorkeling, hiking and boating across more than 100 islands. Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are some of the most visited spots where travelers can still enjoy the scenery while being cautious. If you follow the CDC's advice and stay aware of your surroundings, you can have a safer beach vacation while still soaking up the sun.
While the U.S. travel warning is serious, it's not a full stop. With a little planning and smart precautions, your tropical getaway can still happen, and you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters and lush landscapes that make Seychelles a dream destination. Just don't forget the bug spray.

Ilia Malinin Puts Forth 'Shocking' Free Skate at 2026 Winter Olympics
VIewers and spectators were in the edge of their seats to see if skater Ilia Malinin would do something that figure skating experts once believed might never happen at the Olympic Games.
During the menâs singles free skate at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Malinin, all of 21 years old, was expected to attempt a quadruple Axel, which would have been the first in Olympic history (though he has landed that jump in competition before).
Instead, Malinin made several uncharacteristic mistakes, falling twice and turning his potential quad Axel into just a single.

"This is shockingâŠhe lost almost 72 points in those jumping mistakes," said Olympic gold medal winner and commentator Tara Lipinski, adding, "He could be off the podium."
And he was off the podium. His score landed him in 8th place.
"I was not expecting that. I felt going into this competition I was so ready...honestly, it just happened. I can't process what just happened...I have no words," said Malinin in a rink-side interview after the scores were posted.
After his skate, NBCâs Terry Gannon said of the performance, "A reminder that nothing is certain in sports, there's no such thing as inevitable," and former Olympian Johnny Weir added, ""This one performance will never diminish what Ilia Malinin has done for our sport...it's so shocking and so unexpected...this will certainly be something that he learns from and gets stronger from."

What is also a bit surprising is that several of the top skaters had falls, including the man in second place after the short program, Japan's Yuma Kagiyama, and fellow Japanese skater Shun Sato. They both had costly falls, though they still managed to finish with silver and bronze, respectively. Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov took the gold medal. It is the first medal of the Games for his home country. After his win, before Malinin exited the rink, he went up to Shaidorov and congratulated him on his win.

— NBC Olympics & Paralympics (@NBCOlympics) February 13, 2026Ahead of Malininâs short program, former Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton was asked about the rising starâs technical abilities and didnât mince words.
âHeâs doing things I never thought Iâd see in my lifetime,â Hamilton said. Olympic gold medal winner Tara Lipinski added, "[The quad Axel] is a jump the sport once considered impossible."
The quad Axel is widely considered the most difficult jump in figure skating. Unlike all other jumps, the Axel takes off facing forward and lands backward, adding an extra half rotation that dramatically increases the difficulty. As a result, a quadruple Axel requires a skater to complete four and a half full revolutions before landing cleanly on one foot.

Malinin, known to fans by his longtime nickname âQuad God,â had already made history by landing the jump in international competition beginning in 2022. But until now, no skater had ever completed it at the Olympics.
Malininâs achievement builds on an already historic Olympic run. Earlier in the Games, he played a pivotal role in securing gold for his team in the 2026 Winter Olympics team event, finishing second in the short program and first in the free skate to clinch the victory.
Born in Fairfax, Virginia, Malinin comes from a family steeped in figure skating. His mother, Tatiana Malinina, and father, Roman Skorniakov, both competed at the Olympic level for Uzbekistan. Malinin began skating in 2011 and has rapidly become one of the sportâs most transformative figures. Going into the 2026 Olympics, he had won 14 competitions in a row, not losing since the 2023 France Grand Prix.
In recent seasons, he has further expanded his technical arsenal, incorporating on-ice backflips into his programs after the International Skating Union lifted its ban on the move.

"After 12 long years, our fourth studio album, Mariachi El Bronx IV, is finally out now!" the band wrote on X. "Let us know what you think, and where youâre listening from!"

The members of Mariachi El Bronx include Matt Caughthran, Joby J. Ford, Ken Home, Brad Magers, Vincent Hidalgo, Keith Douglas, Jared Shavelson and Laena Meyers. In 2006, the group was asked to perform a song for a TV appearance, but instead, they rebelled by wearing sombreros. What started as a joke turned into a project that allowed them to explore musical, emotional and cultural avenues outside of punk rock. According to NPR, Caughthran grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood in East Los Angeles, and they had so much fun performing like that, so they decided to try more songs that way.
"For us, it is all about balance. The Bronx celebrated 20 years. That was a milestone. We released Bronx 6. Been around the world. We celebrated. It was a good time to switch gears," Caughthran told New Noise Magazine on Wednesday. "For five years, the need for Mariachi El Bronx was becoming more and more urgent. We were really inspired and hungry to write a new record. Which is where you want to be. We came home from tour and dove in and started writing, started demoing."
To promote the new album, Mariachi El Bronx performed "Bandoleros" on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night. This is the group's third time appearing on the late-night talk show.
Mariachi El Bronx IV is out now on all streaming platforms. In addition, fans can purchase the record and tickets to their upcoming shows in California, Mexico and Australia this spring on their official website.
I Tried Heart-Shaped Pizzas From Pizza Hut and Papa John'sâThis Is the One I've Fallen Madly in Love With
Cupid's favorite holiday is officially upon us, and that means it's time to sit back and enjoy the annual cheese fest. Heart-eyed lovers sharing glances over steak and lobster, a parade of giant teddy bears and heart-shaped balloons heading to the checkout counter at Walmart, public displays of affection that would make your grandmother clutch her pearlsâyou know, the usual. But to be honest, isn't Valentine's Day kind of meant to be cheesy anyway? Not that there's ever a bad day to profess your undying love to your forever crush, but why not lean into the cheese and make a whole to-do out of it while simultaneously making the blushing love-obsessed cherub proud?Â
Maybe instead of just showering your sweetheart with heart-adorned gifts or dropping a ton of cash on a fancy dinner (although I'll gladly accept either), you could double down on the cheesy directive and share a heart-shaped pizza with your lovebug. Seriously, who doesn't want a love note made out of dough covered in melty cheese and all their favorite toppings for Valentine's Day?Â

But, when it comes to choosing the best heart-shaped pizza to make googly eyes at your lover over, you might be trying to decide whether to go for Pizza Hut's or Papa John's lovable offering, and lucky for you, I tried both to determine which one is most likely to make your special someone swoon. Here's everything you need to know.
Pizza Hut's Heart-Shaped Pizza for 2026Courtesy of Kenn C. Bivins
Starting off strong, Pizza Hut's lovable heart-shaped offering, available until Feb. 22, is a medium 12-inch pie that comes with one topping for $11.99. Since my partner and I have different pizza topping preferences, I opted to get the crispy cupped pepperoni as my one topping and added Italian sausage for an additional $1.60. With the additional topping, the total before taxes, tip, and delivery fees came out to $13.59. All in it ended up being $25.09. The pizza arrived fully intact and uncut, which honestly makes for a stunning visual in the box.Â

Like Pizza Hut's heart-shaped pizza, Papa John's, available until Feb. 15, is a 12-inch medium pie with one topping for $11.99. My partner decided to get this one with spinach, green bell peppers, and onions, which ended up costing $15.79 before the additional fees. In total, it came to just about the same as Pizza Hut's at $25.72. Just like Pizza Hut, Papa John's didn't precut the pizza, making it pretty much the dealer's choice for how you'd like to dig in. Talk about establishing a baseline.
Pizza Hut vs. Papa John's: Which Heart-Shaped Pizza Is Better?Courtesy of Kenn C. Bivins
Of course, now that I've established the baseline, let's get to the answer you're probably dying to know. Which heart-shaped pizza is better? In terms of delivery, both pizzas arrived around the same time, with Pizza Hut making it to our door first and Papa John's showing up just about six minutes later. With both pizzas in hand, my partner and I set off to enjoy our deliciously romantic taste test.
For starters, we noticed that although both were sold as 12-inch pizzas, Papa John's pie seemed slightly larger and thinner than Pizza Hut's. Also, Papa John's included packets of crushed red pepper, Parmesan cheese, special seasoning, and pepperoncini peppers, which honestly earns bonus points, imo. Minus 10 points for forgetting the garlic sauce, but I digress. Â
From a visual perspective, both pizzas were symmetrically heart-shaped, and as far as toppings go, they both were pretty generously covered. That said, Papa John's was a little more generous with the cheese on theirs. Additionally, Pizza Hut's pizza looked as if it had been cooked a little longer, giving it a deep golden-brown color. Both pizzas came uncut, and after spending an unhealthy amount of time deciding exactly how to slice them, we settled on cutting them both into squares.Â
Courtesy of Kenn C. Bivins
With both pizzas cut and the mood lighting set, we sat down, turned on Real Housewives of Atlanta, and dug into our love-soaked dinner. While both pizzas were delicious, Papa John's was the clear winner. The healthy amount of cheese, ultra-fresh toppings, and thinner, almost cracker-like crust made for a better pie overall. It was also a bit less dry than Pizza Hut's pizza, which, to my suspicion, was slightly overcooked for my liking.Â
Although I personally preferred Pizza Hut's crispy cupped pepperoni and sausage, I would've liked them more on Papa John's heart-shaped pie. In terms of value, both pizzas were well worth the spend, but if you had to choose one or the other, I'd go with Papa John's. Full disclosure, regardless of which one came out on top, we ended up eating both pizzas in one sitting, but can you really blame us?
Regardless of whether your perfect match is Pizza Hut, Papa John's, or one of the several other places serving up heart-shaped pie for Valentine's Day, you can't go wrong with piling on the cheese. Just remember to get all their favorite toppings.

Smuckerâs and Jif Get Unexpectedly Sweet New Release: 'Interesting and Innovative'
Smucker's and Jif are no longer just fan-favorite brands of jelly and peanut butter.
The J.M. Smucker Companyâthe maker of both Smucker's and Jifâhas licensed its products to offer a new way to enjoy the berry and nutty-flavored pantry staples fans have come to expect from its brands.
Images of the new products on shelves at some stores have gone viral online, as shoppers apparently couldn't believe what they had found in the baking aisle: Smucker's and Jif sprinkles in mini jars resembling their original packaging.
Smucker's and Jif-Flavored Sprinkles Sound Like 'Great Toppings,' According to FansInspired by several classic Smucker's and Jif products, these four new toppings appear to be licensed by My Favorite Company, which produces other novelty favorites like the Perfect Man Chocolate Bar and Block Pops.
According to photos from the baking aisle (and a Walmart product page), the new sprinkles are heading out in four varieties that will surely elevate any cake, ice cream, chocolate-covered pretzel, or homemade Rice Krispies treats with a surprising yet familiar flavor: Jif Peanut Butter Sprinkles, Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate Sprinkles, Smuckerâs Strawberry Sprinkles, as well as Smuckerâs Grape Sprinkles.
The new Smucker's jelly-inspired sprinkles are both described as "colorful, sweet, fun" toppings in descriptions published on Walmart's website. Each replica jelly jar weighs 2.82 ounces and costs about $3.50 (prices may vary by location). The strawberry jelly-flavored sprinkles are red and white, while the grape-flavored ones come in a vibrant purple-and-white duo.
As for the peanut butter-inspired dessert toppings, the new Jif Peanut Butter and Chocolate Sprinkles will likely offer a similarly rich, nutty flavor to the spread that the J.M. Smucker Company released two years ago. It is also available in a 2.82-ounce jar ($3.48) and features a mix of yellow and brown sprinkles. The Jif Peanut Butter Flavored Sprinkles are a single tan color and are expected to taste just like the original peanut butter.
View this post on InstagramWhile it's still a bit too early for reviews (the products haven't even officially been announced yet), fans are fairly optimistic about the release, which they're calling "interesting and innovative."
"Now that is definitely something new," a second teased, "And PEANUT BUTTER ANYTHING IS EVERYTHING!"
"Soooo many ideas!!!" a third exclaimed. "Great toppings for my ninja creamiâs!!"
Another excited fan cheered: "IÂ can't wait to find, buy, and try!"
"Ohh Iâm intrigued đđ," someone else wrote.
"I wonder if they really do taste like the actual stuff?" a different Instagram user asked, noting that they have "so many ideas" on how to use it.
"I just want the little jars," one more joked.
Those looking to find the new Jif and Smucker's-flavored sprinkles should keep them in mind the next time they're shopping at Walmart (either in-store or online). It's currently unclear whether or not the items are exclusive to the retailer, but early reports suggest they may be.
A spokesperson for My Favorite Company was not immediately available for comment. We will update this post with any insight that may be shared.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom: TMZ Receives Third Note in Regard to Nancy Guthrie's Alleged Kidnapper
Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing on Feb. 1. Authorities believe that Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night.
Shortly after the FBI released photos and videos of a suspicious person wearing a ski mask and black gloves on Nancy's front stoop the night that she disappeared, TMZ started receiving emails from someone who claims to know who the alleged kidnapper is. In the first two emails that were sent, the person asked for 1 Bitcoin (about $68,000) for the information. Now, the person has upped the requested amount.
On Friday, Feb. 13, TMZ reported that someone sent a third email making very specific demands in hopes of getting the $100,000 reward from the FBI. However, the person doesn't want to go to the FBI for fear of retaliation or bring incriminated, per TMZ's Feb. 12 report.

The most recent email requests $50,000 paid to a Bitcoin account in exchange for the name of the person behind Nancy's disappearance. Following an arrest, the person behind the email wants another $50,000, also in Bitcoin. TMZ reports that the person "promises not to withdraw" the initial deposit until after an arrest is made.
The person who sent the email said that they would reveal the name of the "main individual," suggesting there's more than one person involved. Moreover, the person made mention of Nancy's "current state," which TMZ chose not to disclose publicly.
Meanwhile, in the second email, which was sent to TMZ on Thursday, Feb. 12, the person wrote that they wouldn't attempt to reach out again.
"I am not being taken seriously,â the second email read, according to the outlet. Though TMZ didn't reveal the contents of the whole email, the outlet did say that the wording was "chilling." TMZ also noted that whomever sent the email claimed that things had changed over the past 24 hours (Wednesday to Thursday), though the outlet didn't elaborate on what that meant.
Neither the Pima County Sheriff's Department nor the FBI have spoken out about these particular emails. It's important to note that these emails appear to be completely different than the initial emails that were sent to TMZ (and other news outlets) demanding ransom for Nancy's return.
'60s Rock Legends Released âIconicâ Single 59 Years Ago Today
Fifty-nine years ago today, The Beatles released one of the most influential singles in rock history: the double A-side pairing of "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane."
The standalone single was first issued by Capitol Records in the United States on Feb. 13, 1967, and it marked a dramatic shift in the band's creative direction. The songs, which would go on to be legendary hits, were recorded in the string of sessions that would culminate in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Though the singles were ultimately not included on the landmark album, they were equally groundbreaking.
"Strawberry Fields Forever," written primarily by John Lennon, drew from his childhood memories of Liverpool.
"Strawberry Fields is a real place. After I stopped living at Penny Lane, I moved in with my auntie who lived in the suburbs in a nice semidetached place with a small garden and doctors and lawyers and that ilk living around... not the poor slummy kind of image that was projected in all the Beatles stories," he explained in an 1980 interview with Playboy. "Near that home was Strawberry Fields, a house near a boys' reformatory where I used to go to garden parties as a kid with my friends Nigel and Pete. We would go there and hang out and sell lemonade bottles for a penny. We always had fun at Strawberry Fields. So that's where I got the name. But I used it as an image. Strawberry Fields forever."

Paul McCartney's "Penny Lane" similar looked back at Liverpool through a vivid, almost cinematic lens. "Penny Lane was the depot I had to change buses at to get from my house to Johnâs and to a lot of my friends. It was a big bus terminal which we all knew very well." said McCartney in The Beatles Anthology.
Together, the tracks showcased the band's growing experimentation in the studio. "Strawberry Fields Forever" blended multiple takes in differing keys and tempos, the result of producer George Martin and engineer Geoff Emerick achieved by playing around with tape speed. The finished songs were unlike anything anyone had ever heard before at the time.
"The only reason that 'Strawberry Fields Forever' and 'Penny Lane' didnât go onto the new album was a feeling that if we issued a single, it shouldnât go onto an album," Martin said in The Beatles Anthology. "That was a crazy idea, and I'm afraid I was partly responsible. ⊠It was a smashing single â but it was also a dreadful mistake."
Nearly six decades later the trailblazing release still stands as one of the defining moments of the 1960s rock era.

12) Jacques Torres' Chocolate-Covered StrawberriesLucky Business / Shutterstock.com
Jacques Torres, the renowned French pastry chef and chocolatier, who just so happens to be nicknamed Mr. Chocolate, has shared his best tips for making perfect chocolate-covered strawberries. The Nailed It! judge says the best chocolate to use to make the quintessential Valentine's Day treat is the one the recipient will enjoy most, whether that's milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate. While it takes a bit of technique to master a chocolate coating like Torres, it's still a ridiculously easy dessert that screams Valentine's Day.
11) John Turturro's Spaghetti con Pomodoro CrudoJacek Chabraszewski / Shutterstock.com
If you're looking to impress a date with something spectacular, but don't want to spend hours in this kitchen, look no further than this minimal ingredient spaghetti con pomodoro. It's made with al dente spaghetti, fresh tomatoes and basil, olive oil and garlic, and John Turturro's famous version will knock your socks off. The Italian-American actor suggests using the freshest summer tomatoes, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy this iconic dish for a special meal in mid-February.
10) Ina Garten's Shrimp Cocktail LouieSUNG MIN / Shutterstock.com
It wouldn't be a celeb recipe roundup without an Ina Garten recipe (or two). This rendition of cocktail shrimp is perfect for a Valentine's Day spread, and it has a bit of a twist in comparison to the classic. Ina's shrimp is roasted in olive oil with salt and pepper and served with Louis sauce, a blend of mayonnaise, chili sauce, lemon zest and juice, horseradish, sriracha, Worcestershire, scallions and capers. It's so easy, even a beginner cook can throw this roasted shrimp cocktail together.
9) Giada De Laurentiis' Tiramisuarbiwiratama / Shutterstock.com
Giada De Laurentiis calls her tiramisu recipe "easy" for good reason. What is generally considered a fancy dessert is actually quite simple to prepare. De Laurentiis dips ladyfingers in espresso, lines them in a baking dish, and layers with an espresso-spiked mascarpone whip made with egg yolks and sugar. Once it's stacked, the entire thing hangs out in the fridge until chilled, then sliced into squares to serve. Your guests will have no idea it took less than 30 minutes to prep.
8) Frank Sinatra's Spaghetti and MeatballsNitr / Shutterstock.com
While spaghetti and meatballs isn't a difficult dish to prepare, when you're making from-scratch tomato sauce and meatballs, the preparation takes a bit longer than some of the other dishes featured on this list. Frank Sinatra, the iconic singer and entertainer from the early 20th century, has shared his family's tried-and-true recipe for the classic Italian dish.
The meatballs are made with signature ingredients, including ground beef and pork, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper. And the simmered-for-hours sauce is crafted with only the best canned tomatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil andâgaspâfresh thyme. It was the Sinatra family secret, and spaghetti and meatball fans are here for it. It's worth a try if you're not a pasta puristâand you can't go wrong with pasta for Valentine's Day dinner.
7) Stanley Tucci's Nico's PastaSentelia / Shutterstock.com
Stanley Tucci, the Italian-American actor and star of Julie & Julia, is basically an honorary celebrity chef, known for his trusted, authentic Italian recipes, beautifully photographed cookbooks, cocktail tutorials on social media and his CNN program Searching for Italy.
One of his most adored recipes is Nico's pasta, which features fettuccine, Parmigiano-Reggiano, shallots, garlic, pancetta, prosciutto, and peas, finished with an egg yolk for a silky carbonara texture we all know and love. While it's not a difficult recipe to master, per se, it does require some technique to avoid scrambled eggs.
6) Goldie Hawn's Fettuccine AlfredoDudaeva / Shutterstock.com
Goldie Hawn is especially proud of her signature Alfredo sauceâand it's surprisingly simple to prepare. The recipe highlights a timeless blend of freshly grated Parmesan, double and single cream, rich egg yolks and freshly cracked black pepper. The result is a luxuriously smooth sauce that makes it easy to create a restaurant-quality dish right in your own kitchen. For an added touch of sophistication, finish with shaved truffle or a hint of nutmeg, extra Parmesan and a drizzle of truffle oil.

5) Christopher Walken's Scallops Ă la Walkenmargouillat photo / Shutterstock.com
When you think of Christopher Walken, iconic performances in The Deer Hunter or King of New York probably come to mindânot his scallop recipe. Still, it's hard to argue with the appeal of perfectly seared scallops, and his version is no exception.
He begins with a clever infusion of orange peel in olive oil, then sears the scallops until golden brown, seasoning them simply with salt and pepper. While the dish comes together in just minutes, cooking seafood well requires patience and precision, making this one of the more technically challenging recipes of the bunch.
4) Martha Stewart's Prime RibElena Veselova / Shutterstock.com
Prime rib has all the makings of a showstopping holiday centerpiece. Martha Stewart's version, like many of her signature recipes, is widely praisedâbut it does require some finesse.
She advises bringing the roast to room temperature before generously seasoning it with kosher salt and black pepper. The cooking method starts with a blast of high heat, then lowers to finish, followed by a crucial resting period. The accompanying sauce, arguably the trickiest part, demands extra attention. Master the process, and you'll be rewarded with an exceptionally tender, richly flavorful roast to share with your loved ones.
3) Ina Garten's Chocolate MousseRomanaMart / Shutterstock.com
I'm back with another Ina Garten recipe that is sure to be the final piece of a memorable Valentine's Day feast-and it wouldn't be right if it weren't a rich and chocolatey dessert. Ina offers her considerable expertise with this chocolate mousse recipe, filled with bittersweet and milk chocolate, brewed coffee or espresso, vanilla extract, kosher salt and extra-large egg yolks (size matters) that's chilled and finished with a simple heavy cream and sugar whipped topping. Although it sounds simple, the use of a double boiler and the technique of tempering eggs can easily throw off a novice cook. But if you take your time with each step, I bet you'll nail it.
2) Audrey Hepburn's Flourless Chocolate CakeIrina Goleva / Shutterstock.com
Audrey Hepburn's go-to dessert for birthdays and holidays was her now-famous flourless chocolate cakeâand it's every bit as indulgent as you'd hope. Rich, deeply chocolatey and irresistibly decadent, it takes a little self-restraint to perfect. But follow the steps carefully, and you'll be rewarded with a tender, melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece.
Made with just six humble ingredientsâchopped unsweetened dark chocolate, whole milk, unsalted butter, sugar, powdered sugar and eggsâthe magic is in the technique. Whipped egg whites create a light, airy lift, while the yolks deliver that luscious, creamy richness. One key tip: let the cake rest in the oven after baking to prevent top cracks. A little patience goes a long wayâand trust me, it's absolutely worth it.
Which Valentine's Day Meal Is Most Difficult to Master?1) Julia Child's Beef BourguignonAnna_Pustynnikova / Shutterstock.com
Valentine's Day would not be complete without mentioning Julia Child's most famous recipe: beef bourguignon. The classic French stew, immortalized in her groundbreaking 1961 cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume I, has since become a signature dish in home kitchens around the world. It's a go-to for special occasions and an impressive date-night dinner you can proudly present at the table.
But make no mistakeâthis is not a throw-it-in-the-pot-and-walk-away kind of meal. Beef bourguignon demands time, patience and careful technique. The beef must be properly dried and seared in batches to develop a deep, caramelized crust without steaming. The vegetables require attentive browning to build flavor. The sauce, enriched with red wine, must simmer gently for hours to achieve the silky, concentrated finish that defines the dish. Rushing it can result in tough meat or a thin, acidic broth.
Even the finishing touches matter: balancing seasoning, skimming excess fat, and achieving the perfect fork-tender texture takes practice and a watchful eye. It's this layering of techniqueâfrom browning to braising to reductionâthat makes the dish challenging to master. But when done right, the result is a luxuriously rich, deeply savory stew that feels both comforting and elegantâexactly the kind of showstopping meal that makes Valentine's Day feel extra special.

Should I Propose Before or After Dinner? All of Your Engagement QuestionsâAnswered by the Pros
Ready to put a ring on it? Congratulations! Before you and your partner can start wedding planning, you have to plan the perfect proposal first. Engagements can look like just about anything, from Kourtney Kardashian's beach proposal to asking, "Will you marry me?" on the Jumbotron. Unsurprisingly, though, most people get engaged over dinner!
One study found that 65 percent of respondents got engaged over a meal. If you're thinking of popping the question "dinner proposal-style," you may be wondering: Should I propose before or after dinner?
Parade consultedEmily Forrest, Director of Communications at the wedding planning website Zola. "This is a hot topic! In fact, it comes up frequently enough that we filmed a TikTok Round Table about it," Forrest explains. "I'm strongly pro before dinner, as my husband proposed to me before."
But the answer really depends on who you ask. Even in Zola's TikTok Round Table (see below), everyone included had a range of opinions.

⏠original sound - ZolaIf you're starting to plan an upcoming proposal, there's a lot to considerâwhere to do it, how to word the question, when to do it, how to present the ring and who you want to be present, just to name a few. Whether you propose before or after is just another one of those things you need to decide before getting engaged, and it's really up to you.

Things to Consider for a Dinner ProposalUnsplash
There are probably a lot of things running through your mind already, but proposals take more planning than a lot of people think.
"As for the other parts of the proposal, we find that most couples do have many discussions about what the ideal proposal moment will look like, whether they want their family and friends or children to be there or if it's important for blessings to be received," Forrest explains.
Expected AnswerUnsplash
Have you thought about what the expected answer might be? While most people who propose believe they'll get a resounding "Yes!," you may want to prepare yourself for any answer or any reaction. After all, we never truly know what the other person is thinking.
However, if you've made it a habit to discuss your future with your partner and even chat about things like engagement rings, wedding plans, what your shared finances would look like and even the possibility of starting a family, it should make your expected outcome more informed.
Forrest adds that many couples nowadays don't just have these conversations; they also tend to date longer and even move in together before getting engaged.
"According to our 2023 First Look Report, most couples are together for approximately five years before they get married," Forrest says. "They also check many life milestones off their to-do list, like living together and even buying a home, before they decide to get married."
With all of those important discussions and milestones already incurred, a proposal is more likely to be accepted.
"This is all to say that getting engaged is a major life decision that the couple is making together, so the expected answer is usually a known entity!" Forrest says.
Probable Reaction View this post on InstagramThere's not only the expected answer to consider but also your partner's probable reaction. Will they cry? Laugh? Be speechless?
"The reaction itself may be a surprise for both the partner proposing and the partner being proposed to," Forrest explains. "And, for many couples, we find that the moment of the proposal is their favorite moment of the entire engagement process. Even if the yes is predictable, the emotions are not!"
Of course, there's no way to accurately predict how your partner will react to your proposal, but anticipating their probable reaction could help you plan better. For example, you may already know that your partner hates crowds or easily gets embarrassed. Is a public place really the location to propose in that case?
Or maybe your partner really values intimate moments between you two. In that case, your partner might feel overwhelmed if you invite families and a bunch of friends to celebrate. It's all about knowing your partner well and taking their feelings into consideration.
Purpose of the DinnerUnsplash
Ask yourself: What's the purpose of this dinner? Your obvious answer might be "to propose," but there's a little more to it than that. We're talking about the reason your partner thinks you're both going out to dinner. Is this something you two do all the time? If not, will it seem out of character or suspicious if you want to go somewhere nice out of the blue?
"Pick a location where you both feel comfortable," Hall des LumiÚres events expert Alexandra Reiss explains.
Reiss adds, "Does the venue have meaning to you, or is it just a fancy place? You must be prepared for people to watch you if you propose in public. Think about how you and your partner will feel with that attention on you both. For example, a couple recently held their engagement at Hall des LumiĂšres because it was a comfortable, special place for them."
How will you explain what they should wear? If your partner usually likes to get their nails done, how will you handle that as discreetly as possible?
At its core, defining the purpose of the dinner is all about planning out the best ways to keep the proposal a total secret.

Table SettingUnsplash
Once you get into the wedding-planning portion of it all, you'll find that there are an infinite number of details to fuss over, including intricate decisions about table settings. But is it really necessary to plan the table setting for an engagement?
Maybe not, but it's something to mull over. First of all, ask yourself if you want to be located in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, near other guests, or off to the side or back in a more private area. In anticipating your partner's probable reaction, consider whether they'd want to be front-and-center or in a more intimate setting of the restaurant.
Something else you may not have thought of: If you propose before dinner, the table will be spotless and professionally arranged by staff. If you propose after dinner, the table might have some crumbs, maybe a stain or two and might not feel as nice as a new, fresh setting might when you first arrive.
You can also involve the restaurant staff in the planning process, so they can help you plan discreetly, monitor the situation and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
"If you plan to propose at the restaurant, it's great to warn the staff. The host/hostess should keep special eyes on the table, ensure you are taken care of properly and suggest the best table for the special moment," Reiss explains. "This is why proposal packages are a great option, so your venue of choice knows what to expect and can help you make it the most seamless and romantic moment possible."Â
AttendeesThere are all kinds of proposals, just as there are all kinds of people and personalities. One thing many people consider is who to invite to the engagement (or post-engagement ceremony) or whether anyone else is invited at all.Â
"If your significant other hates a scene, having your friends or family close by after at a bar/restaurant/event space is a great way to celebrate afterward, while keeping the proposal moment private," Reiss says. "It's a great second surprise to keep the night going, too!"
Again, it really is about knowing your partner intimately and, based on that knowledge, making an informed decision about what they may want. If the entire family is hiding in the wings at the restaurant, will that overwhelm your partner or be a happy surprise? Do you want to include friends as potential attendees? Or is it best for you as a couple to keep the proposal between only you two?
"We do find that most couples would prefer their proposal to feel intimateâa special moment for the two of them," Forrest says. If that's the case, then Forrest suggests "[considering] a dinner date at home or popping the question before you head to the restaurant."

Type of FoodUnsplash
This kind of brings us back to that Mary-Kate and Ashley movie where one of the twins gets bad advice to "only eat a salad on dates," not something "messy" like pizza.
Lame (and problematic) advice for sure. However, we can't deny that some foods are messier than others. And getting the ring or your clothes dirty before taking engagement photos isn't really ideal.
As such, ask yourself: What kind of cuisine is served at this restaurant? Is it your partner's favorite? Least favorite?
Is it super sticky, oily or prone to leaking, like a burrito? If there's a strong possibility that your partner (or you) might end up with the stain at the end of the night, you may want to propose before dinner.
All things considered, it's more important to order cuisine that you and your partner both love. Was your first date a sushi date? Maybe you've bonded over pasta? Either way, it should be enjoyable, and everything else should fall by the wayside.
"I don't think there are any rules when it comes to food!" Reiss says. "Anything that you both enjoy or has a personal meaning to you both! If a messier meal has a special meaning for you, it's better to be sentimental than formal and cold."
Presenting the RingForrest has a great pointâengagement proposals don't automatically equate to the giving of a ring. In most, yes, but plenty of people propose without a symbolic ring.
"Well, there isn't even always a ring! The best way to present any proposal is to do it in a way that feels personal and true to who you and your partner are," Forrest explains.
Just as there isn't always a ring, there's no rule that you have to get down on one knee, either. It's really all up to preference.
Related:Â Celebrate Saying 'Yes!' With These 75 Awesome Engagement Party Ideas
"We all know the perfect proposal as getting down on one knee only because that is what we all see in romantic comedies," Forrest adds, "but that doesn't mean it is the only way."
If there is a ring, however, there are plenty of different ways to "present" it, so to speak, and not all those ideas necessarily mean getting down on one knee. In fact, many have gotten impressively creative with their ring presentations.
Some of the more popular ways to present a ring during a proposal include putting it on top of a slice of cake (or incorporating it in the food some other way), placing it in a glass of champagne (just tie it to a ribbon first so you can remove it easily), having the waiter bring it over on an otherwise empty plate, place it in a box of chocolates, hide it in a bouquet, or inside of a fortune cookie. Of course, you could always invent an innovative way to present a ring, too.
How to Word Your ProposalOne of the most important details to contemplate is the wording of your proposal. What do you want to say? What message do you want to send? What's the sentiment? What do you want to make sure they know before accepting?
"No two proposals are the same, even if they end with, 'Will you marry me?'" Forrest says. "A really nice way to think about the proposal is that it is a moment where two people make a decision to spend their life together; it is not just one person asking the other."
It's a fair point. After all, words really matter.
"So, for example, instead of asking, 'Will you spend the rest of your life with me?' the proposer could say, 'Can we spend the rest of our lives together?'" Ultimately, though, you know your partner better than anyone else. What words do you think will matter to them most? What way of asking will they appreciate?

Photography View this post on InstagramWe'd be lying if we said most proposees don't involve someone waiting in the wings, ready to capture that special "Yes!" moment. It's so common that it's become expected. Whether that's a friend with a smartphone or a professional photographer lurking in the shadows, it doesn't matter. A picture is worth a thousand wordsâway more than just the one word.
Nowadays, many people share photos of their proposal online or frame the special moment in their home. Reiss absolutely recommends having a photographer capture the moment. At Hall des LumiÚres, package add-ons include a photo.
"These photos can be used later for the wedding website, invites, etc," Reiss adds. "Hiring a photographer who can hide or be candid before the moment is vital not to give it away. The venue should be able to help them find the best spot to get the shot. After the proposal, carve out some time to walk around for a mini-engagement shoot!"
While it's not a total necessity, having a planned photo is a sweet gesture that will make the moment all the more memorable. Inevitably, hiring professional photographers can be expensive and unattainable for some. In that case, you can enlist a family member or friend (or maybe even a waiter or other restaurant staff member?) to snap the moment.
However, if you have your heart set on a pro photographer, you can always check out Shoottâit's a photography business that collaborates with professionals in different cities all around the country. The photo session itself is free and includes posing insights from the photographer so they can grab the best shots. It operates on an Ă la carte model, so you only pay for the photos you choose (usually $18 to $30 per photo).

Should I Propose Before or After Dinner?Unsplash
According to StudyFinds.org, people have varying opinions on when to pop the question during a dinner proposal. One in five respondents got engaged over appetizers, while 18 percent put a ring on it before the food even got there!
But the overwhelming go-to is to ask during the actual meal. Thirty-six percent of people were mid-meal when they got engaged.
In Forrest's personal experience, the proposal happened before dinner arrived.
"For us, and for many couples, the decision to get engaged is very thought-out and discussed at length. Even though the time and date might be a surprise, the fact that it's coming may not be," Forrest explains. After all, dating for several years is usually a dead giveaway that it's happening soon.
"I'm strongly pro before-dinner, as my husband proposed to me before," Forrest tells Parade. "For my husband, waiting until after dinner would have made the meal feel like one thousand years, and after he popped the question, we were able to enjoy the evening together and pop some bubbles to go with our meal!"

'80s No. 1 Hit Ranked Best 'Country Love Song Duet' of All Time
Valentineâs is right around the corner, which means people everywhere are building the ultimate love-song playlist. And, if thereâs one track that absolutely belongs on it, itâs âIslands in the Streamâ by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
Written by the Bee Gees, the â80s classic country duet marked the first-ever collaboration between Rogers and Parton. The track ended up taking both of their careers to new heights. Their onstage chemistry was undeniable, their harmonies were pure magic, and the song has gone on to become one of the most recognizable and timeless country tracks that still carries its weight today.Â
Released in 1983 and appearing on Rogersâ fifteenth studio album, Eyes That See in the Dark, âIslands in the Streamâ soared to the top spot on multiple charts, including the Billboard all-genre Hot 100 chart, where it bumped Bonnie Tyler's"Total Eclipse of the Heartâ out of the No. 1 position. The track went on to be certified Triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling over three million copies in the U.S. Â
The Song Has a Unique HistorySurprisingly, âIslands in the Streamâ wasnât planned as a country song. When the Bee Gees first wrote it, they had an R&B-style track in mind. However, fate intervened with Bee Gees frontman Barry Gibb, who brought it to Rogers, who passed away on March 20, 2020.
At the time, Rogers needed a bit of persuasion as he didnât feel connected to the tune right away.Â
Kenny Rogers Once Opened up About the TrackâIt all started when Barry Gibb wrote âIslands in the Stream,â and he gave it to me to record â he was producing an album,â the late legendary artist once shared in an interview with People. âI finally said, âBarry, I donât even like this song anymore,â and he said, âYou know what we need? We need Dolly Parton.'â
As luck would have it, Parton, 80, was in the studio. Once she stepped up to the microphone, everything changed.Â
âOnce she came in and started singing, the song was never the same. It took on a personality of its own,â Rogers told the outlet.Â
âIslands in the Streamâ went on to top countless âbest ofâ lists, including CMTâs ranking of the best country duets of all time and Billboardâs list of Top 25 Country Love Song Duets of All Time. The trackâs success also led the country artists and lifelong friends to go on to release more duets together, including 1985âs âReal Loveâ as well as a joint Christmas album.
1975 No. 1 Hit Was an Accident by Two '70s Rock Legends
In 1975, two of the biggest names in rock history accidentally created a No. 1 hit.
By the mid-'70s, David Bowie was already a global star thanks to albums like The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and songs like âSpace Oddity.â But, he had yet to top the American charts. That finally changed with âFame," a song born out of an unlikely, almost accidental collaboration with John Lennon.
The story began in 1974, when Bowie met one of his greatest heroes at a party hosted by Elizabeth Taylor. Though Bowie was already a rising legend, he was deeply intimidated by Lennon.
"I think we were polite with each other, in that kind of older-younger way," Bowie later recalled of their first meeting. "I was sort of, 'It's John Lennon!' I donât know what to say. 'Donât mention The Beatles, youâll look really stupid.'"
Despite the awkward start, the two became friends. Months later, Lennon visited Bowie while he was recording Young Americans in New York City, and that's when lightning struck.
Bowie had been working with guitarist Carlos Alomar, who had written a riff they were developing into a new track. When Lennon heard it, he didn't realize it stemmed from an earlier idea and began singing improvised, nonsensical lyrics over the groove. Among the mutterings was a word that caught Bowie's ear: Fame.
That spontaneous moment sparked the concept for the song. Bowie built lyrics around the theme, and although Lennon didn't contribute full verses, Bowie credited him as a co-writer for inspiring the track. Lennon also played guitar and provided backing vocals.
The result was "Fame," released in 1975. The single reached No. 1 on both the American and Canadian charts, marking Bowieâs first chart-topper in North America.
The collaboration didn't just produce a hit; it also left a lasting creative impact on Bowie. Years later, he reflected on songwriting advice Lennon gave him, advice that would factor heavily into his musical reinvention in the 1980s.
"I'll never forget something John Lennon told me; we were talking about writing, and I had always admired the way he used to cut through so much of the bulls***, just come straight to the point with what he wanted to say," Bowie said in 1983. Lennon's guidance was simple: "It's very easy â all you have to do is say what you mean, make it rhyme and put a backbeat to it."
Bowie added, "I keep coming back to that principle as a writer."
What started as an improvised studio jam between two '70s rock legends ultimately became a defining moment in Bowie's career and proof that sometimes, music history is made by accident.

You might just need a quick trip to Dollar General.
The latest under-the-radar home decor gem is the True Living Round Jute Placemat from Dollar General, and it's only $3. Yes, $3. Joe Keery Shares the 'Cold Storage' Note That Had Him Explaining 'I'm American'
Cold Storageco-stars Joe Keeryand Georgina Campbell shared the hilarious moment that Keery, who is American, received a correction for his American accent while on set. Cold Storage, which hit theaters on February 13th, has a primarily British and Irish cast, although the movie is set in the United States.
It therefore makes sense that the movie would have an accent coach on set, although one of the few actors who didn't need guidance on an American accent was Keery, who is American born. Nevertheless, Keery and Campbell shared that Keery was given a correction on his accent, although neither star could recall exactly what the line was.
View this post on InstagramCampbell and Keery both laughed their way through the story, with Campbell sharing that Keery had to explain he was American to the coach and felt that he was saying the line fine. Although some actors may take offense, Keery seemed to have a positive attitude about the situation and described it as "very funny."
Cold Storage is a horror comedy, which is familiar territory for Keery. Although he is best known for his role as Steve Harrington in Stranger Things, as well as his musical career under the stage name Djo, in 2020, Keery played serial killer Kurt Kunkle in Spree, another addition to the unique horror comedy genre.
While that movie had some genuinely grim, gory moments, it was all done in parody, with Kurt carrying out a string of murders in order to increase his number of followers on social media, as he was desperate for a life as an influencer. In fact, the movie is done in the found footage style, as Kurt is livestreaming his kills to get views (but he largely still doesn't).
Cold Storage is narratively quite different, however, in that Keery is no longer playing a creepy antagonist. Rather, Keery's character, Teacake, alongside Campbell's Naomi Williams and Liam Neeson's Robert Quinn, are working to stop a mysterious, deadly fungus from spreading.
NBA Legend Chris Paul Announces Retirement After 21 Seasons
After 21 seasons playing across seven different teams in the NBA, Chris Paul has formally announced his retirement. The "Point God" himself shared the news with an emotional look back on his basketball career in a post on Instagram on Feb. 13.
"This is it! After over 21 years I'm stepping away from basketball," wrote the 40-year-old legend, who retired a Toronto Raptor after a Feb. 4 trade from the Los Angeles Clippers. Throughout the years, he also played for the New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs.
"Mostly I'm filled with so much joy and gratitude!" wrote Paul, also known as CP3. I've been in the NBA for more than half of my life, spanning three decades... Playing basketball for a living has been an unbelievable blessing that also came with lots of responsibility. I embraced it all."

"Basketball gave me a reason to wake up at 5am and work out before school," he wrote. "It gave me a reason to find a way to get to the YMCA on snow days even when the roads were icy. It gave me a reason to be the little brother always trying to beat his big brother. It gave me a reason to earn good grades so I could have a chance to play in college. And the true leaders and fighters know that that right there - showing up - is half of the battle."
The point guard expressed gratefulness to have returned to his "home" with the Clippers, who he first played for from 2011 to 2017 before returning for the 2025-2026 season. Los Angeles is also his literal home, where his family lives. "Those six years away were a lot of sacrifice for all of us, and I knew that had to come to an end," he said. "I now know wholeheartedly the best teammate I can be is to [my wife] Jada, [and kids] Chris II and Cam!!"
The icon said he was "so excited" for his next chapter, and so thankful to "all the teammates, coaches, staff, executives and most of all family... And the biggest thanks of all goes to the man upstairs."

Kaley Cuoco Says Her âBig Bang Theoryâ Decision Sparked an 'Uproar': 'People Lost Their Minds'
Kaley CuocosaysBig Bang Theory fans weren't too happy about her decision to get a pixie cut while the show was on the air.
In a February 2026 interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Cuoco explained that she decided to get a short haircut while she was playing Penny on the hit CBSsitcom, which had a 12-season run until 2019. Cuoco said that many of the show's viewers voiced their upset about her character's new look when she debuted it during the show's eighth season.
"I showed up one day with that hair. It was an uproar," said Cuoco during the podcast episode.
