Cockatoo Checks on Mom While She Fake Naps, and He's 'Literally the Sweetest'

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 6:57pm

I wasn't aware until seeing this video of Casper the Cockatoo checking on his "sleeping" mom that birds could be so tender. But that's just what his mom wanted us to know about her "sweet baby" when she pretended to lie down for a nap with the camera rolling. She starts the clip by announcing her plans to Casper and quickly gets under the covers and closes her eyes. The curious bird waddles into frame to make sure she's all tucked in. He asks, "You asleep, baby?" and gives her a goodnight kiss. Once Casper confirms she's asleep, the cutie quietly walks away to let her slumber.

I agree with the viewer who commented that "the best part is knowing that he's repeating things that he's been told. He's clearly...so loved at home."

Other fans joke that he's only checking on his mom so he can go make mischief while she's out.

"He’s tucked you in so he can go pick the buttons off the remote or casually destroy the tip of your shoes," says one.

"Making sure you’re asleep so he can call all his friends to come over," laughs another.

Either way, it's evident that Casper loves his mama and receives plenty of sweet messaging at home. The gentle questions, the kisses, the preening. Seems like these two are living the dream.

Is a Cockatoo For You?

Casper and his affectionate behavior make life with a Cockatoo seem idyllic, but no pet is an angel all the time. Cockatoos are undeniably charming — big, expressive parrots known for their playful personalities and strong bonds with their people — but they’re also a serious long-term commitment. With lifespans that can stretch up to 70 years in captivity, bringing one home is less like adopting a pet and more like adding a very opinionated roommate.

These highly social birds thrive on interaction and mental stimulation, which makes them wonderful companions for the right person — but challenging for anyone who isn’t prepared to meet their needs. Cockatoos require a balanced diet (not just seeds), a large, secure cage, daily enrichment through toys and play, and regular vet care to stay healthy.

They’re also known for being loud (very loud) and prone to behavioral issues like separation anxiety or feather plucking if they’re bored or overly dependent on their humans. Their affectionate nature is part of the appeal, but it also means they don’t do well being left alone for long stretches.

If you’re considering one, adoption is often encouraged, as many cockatoos are rehomed due to their noise level and care demands. The bottom line: cockatoos can be incredibly loving, intelligent pets, as we can clearly see thanks to Casper— but they’re best suited for people who are ready to commit to them for the long haul.

Senior Golden Retriever Adopted Just in Time—and It’s Making Everyone Emotional

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 6:55pm

Some rescue stories stick with you, and Gus’s is one of them.

In a post shared to Reddit’s r/goldenretrievers community, a person explained that they pulled a scruffy, senior golden retriever named Gus from a rural shelter in heartbreaking condition. The adopter explained that Gus, estimated to be around 7 or 8 years old, was severely underweight, had bald patches and was battling multiple health issues, including giardia and Addison’s disease.

“All I knew was that he looked awful and I couldn't leave him,” the adopter wrote.

A Second Chance Just in Time

The situation was more urgent than anyone initially realized. After bringing Gus home and immediately taking him to a veterinarian, the vet confirmed just how serious his condition was.

“My vet said one or two more days and he would have died from Addisonian crisis,” the adopter explained.

That narrow window makes his rescue feel nothing short of life-saving.

Despite the challenges—and the cost of care, which the adopter says has been significant—there was never any regret.

The Little Wins That Mean Everything

Over the past month, Gus has been slowly learning how to be a dog again, and it’s the small milestones that have made the biggest impact.

His adopter shared a list of “firsts,” each one more meaningful than the last:

  • A full week of solid digestion after treatment
  • Learning to walk up stairs smoothly instead of one step at a time
  • Figuring out the dog door (even if it’s still a work in progress)
  • Lifting his leg to pee
  • Climbing onto the couch for the first time

Individually, they may seem like ordinary moments. But for Gus, they represent healing, comfort and a fresh start. “Seeing these unremarkable moments that are truly remarkable brings me such joy,” the adopter wrote.

Internet Falls in Love With “The Gussiest Gus”

It didn’t take long for people online to fall head over heels for Gus.

One person wrote in the comment section, “Please tell fuzzy Gus I love him. Is there a waiting list to hug Gus because I want to join it.”

Another joked, “Gus is my new #1 ranked dog in the latest Internet golden retriever polls.”

Someone else commented on his fitting name. "I don’t think any name could suit him better. Hey Gus, nice to meet you buddy," to which the adopter replied "Exactly what I thought when I looked at him. The Gussiest Gus to walk the land!"

And perhaps the pup’s most enthusiastic fan added, “I would sell my husband for a chance to sit in the same room as Gus.” Honestly, same.

A Reminder About Senior Dogs

Gus’s story is a powerful reminder that senior dogs, especially those with medical needs, are often overlooked, despite having so much love to give.

Thanks to one person who simply couldn’t walk away, Gus now gets to enjoy comfort, care and the kind of life every dog deserves.

And judging by the additional photos shared in the comments—full of couch cuddles and happy walks—he’s truly making the most of every moment.

Golden Retriever 'Rehashes' His Vet Appointment Like a Dramatic King

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 6:10pm

Like many dogs, my fur babies dread going to the vet. Both of them get nervous the second I pull into the parking lot. My Pug mix literally plants his tush down and refuses to move, so I have to carry him into the office. His senior Dachshund sister shakes uncontrollably before we even get in the door. Afterwards, they both collapse in exhaustion on the ride home and try to forget what they've endured.

Mac the Golden Retriever obviously prefers to process his feelings with his parents after his vet appointment, and he gave them an earful.

In the TikTok from @stephfoster50s, Mac was lying on the couch as he told his parents about his day. The gorgeous Golden spent the day at the vet and had plenty to say about the visit. Mac started the story with some emotional whines, expressing how distressing the experience was for him.

"It wasn't fun?" his dad listened and validated Mac's feelings. "That's not fun."

The precious pooch's mom heard the stress in Mac's voice and sought out more information.

"Did they trim your nails?" she asked, as Mac gave her a pained look. "Yeah, you didn't like that, did you? I know."

Then the fur baby's dad brought up injections, which really set Mac off.

"And then they gave you shots, too? A couple of shots," his dad remarked as Mac barked in belated protest and put his front legs on the floor. He gave his dad some more details. "They took blood?"

"You didn't like any of it, did you?" Mac's mom sympathized.

Post-Visit Prescription: 'Treats and Belly Rubs'

Followers felt that Mac deserved some loving comfort and tasty rewards after such a harrowing day.

"Group therapy is vital after a vet appointment," one remarked.

"I think a cheeseburger is in order for all the fur angel had to go through," another suggested.

"Treats and belly rubs right now," a follower demanded.

"His feelings are valid, the doctors wasn't fun Mom and Dad — I deserve a nice thick T-bone steak," someone posted.

Hopefully, Mac got some extra pampering after such a difficult day.

Sweet Cat Experiences Snow for the First Time Thanks to Loving Owner

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 5:48pm

Cats love to explore, but sometimes they are limited to an indoor life if you choose to have an indoor-only cat. These cats spend their entire lives inside the walls of an apartment or house, so pet parents have to find other ways to provide mental enrichment and physical activity. Well, one cat posted to Reddit got the experience of a lifetime.

Jack the cat watched snow through the window for his entire life. This year, with the snowstorm hitting the United States, he finally got to experience it firsthand. The cat had never felt snow before, so his owner brought the winter snow to him.

In a simple but thoughtful gesture, his pet parent scooped up fresh snow from outside and brought it inside for the cat to investigate. As we can see in the video posted on the social media platform Reddit, the reaction is immediate: curious paws, cautious sniffs, then playful taps as the cold, unfamiliar texture starts to make sense.

Jack can’t go outside, brought the snow inside for him
by u/Mdmaguire in aww

For a cat that cannot go outside, this is more than enrichment. This cat is experiencing something they would otherwise never be able to.

What Are Fans Saying About It?

As the cat parent said, this was the first time Jack saw snow besides looking at it through the window. In the comments, they also explained that he is an indoor cat that loves to play.

Fans love the interaction, and commented on how Jack is happy to have an owner take good care of him, saying, “That’s hilarious. It also appears you threw at least 2-3 snowballs against the wall and had your own fun,” “Awwww he loved it! Thanks for giving your kitty a nice treat,” and “Awww that's a really sweet gift for kitty.”

One fan had a suggestion for how to improve the game. They said, “I’ve been doing this for years! Pro tip, if you can, brew cat nip like tea and dribble it in the snow for extra crazies.”

Can Cats Tolerate Snow?

Cats can tolerate snow for short periods of time (between five and 15 minutes) because their bodies aren't built for longer cold exposure. Being outside for a prolonged period can cause hypothermia or frostbite during winter days.

Yes, cats are curious. They would love to play on different surfaces, but they do not like wet, freezing texture. During winter, it is best that cat parents of indoor-outdoor cats limit outdoor time. Keep the excursions very brief, and make sure to check their paw pads afterward for ice or snow damage.

Why Some Cats Must Stay Indoors

The decision to keep a cat indoors is often a matter of safety and health. Statistics from the American Veterinary Medical Association suggest that indoor cats live significantly longer lives. They are protected from vehicles, predators and infectious diseases like feline leukemia.

At the same time, an indoor life can become stagnant without effort from pet owners. Cats, like dogs, need mental stimulation and physical activity. Jack’s owner understands that while Jack stays inside for his own protection, he still has the instincts of his wild ancestors. They brought the outdoor fun in for Jack to enjoy in a memorable way.

Bougie Ragdoll Cat's First Time Trying Sashimi Is Too Funny

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 5:00pm

When we think of rich people, we might think of fancy cars, big houses, designer bags... And cats who eat sashimi. However, realistically, any cat could try a little sashimi! You should definitely be careful, though... They might develop some seriously expensive taste!

One Ragdoll cat recently got her first taste of sashimi, and it seems like it went over pretty well. Her mom definitely has a little bit of trouble ahead, because this kitty is about to develop some expensive tastes:

@ziggyandmochi

🐠🍣 #ragdollcat #sushi

♬ original sound - Ziggy & Mochi🩶🧡

Ziggy and Mochi both got to try a little bit of the sashimi, and both of them seemed to have loved it! It was salmon. Personally, I don't think I would do this with my cat if I had one, mostly because I know they'd go on a hunger strike until I got them more!

Related: Ragdoll Kittens’ Adorable ‘Cuddle Fest’ Could Heal Any Heart

Ziggy and Mochi are brothers, though they're technically 3 months apart; Ziggy came first. Apparently, he was so awesome that his mom needed another one immediately. That does mean she has to give out double portions of sashimi, but it's a small price to pay! She's trying to win Ziggy over:

@ziggyandmochi

unconditional love where #ragdollcat

♬ Mozart/Requiem "Lacrimosa"(1394506) - Mint

You'd think getting fed sashimi would help her cause, but he's a tough nut to crack. As the caption of that video says, he's definitely a "conditional love" type of cat!"

Should You Feed Cats Raw Fish?

Sashimi is raw, sushi-grade fish. It's something that a lot of humans refuse to eat, but cats? They'd gobble it up in a second if given the chance!

Bicolor Ragdoll lying on the floor.

Raw fish is not good for cats in large amounts or when fed to them frequently. It contains an enzyme that can cause Vitamin B1 deficiency, and raw fish that's gone bad can cause severe stomach upset. Plus, certain varieties are a little too fatty. A little is totally fine, though!

Make sure not to feed cats fish that's:

  • Visibly discolored.
  • Been sitting out for a while.
  • Smelling a little weird.
  • Not from a source you trust.

Basically, if you wouldn't eat that piece of fish, don't give it to your cat. Luckily, Ziggy and Mochi's mom would never!

Sweet Cat Makes a New Best Friend, and Their Bond Is Truly Heartwarming

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 4:48pm

While popular culture often paints dogs as a child’s best friend, cats also seek out the company of the youngest family members. While they do not perform affection on demand, they do give trust you cannot force. Their love is selective, deliberate and earned.

A bond between a cat and a child is special, and a recent video posted on Reddit proves just that. The video shows a young girl coming close to a cat, petting him and then walking him. The cat in the video could have walked away at any moment. Instead, he stayed right beside the girl, like he had already decided that young girl was his person.

The Best of Friends

In the video shared to Reddit, we see a young girl approaching a cat named Uno on the street. The cat is on a leash, and the girl wants to know his name. After learning his name, she says, "This is now my new friend." The girl then hugs the cat and walks him. In the end, they each go their separate ways. The girl gives him another hug, and tells him bye.

There is no tension between the two, no resistance, just pure love. The interaction doesn’t feel like a pet being handled. It feels like a true friendship.

What Are Fans Saying About It?

Most fans were surprised how calm and patient Uno was. They said, “This cat knows how to handle his fans with grace and aplomb. The little one also doing really well,” “Uno is a scholar and a gentleman,” and “Both her and uno were so sweet!”

One fan noticed something every cat parent knows. The commenter said, “Wow. I thought no cat would ever tolerate having their whiskers pulled at, even gently." In this video, Uno is the perfect gentleman, handling every pet (and whisker pull) in a calm and peaceful way.

Cats and Kids Can Be Friends

Dogs get most of the credit when it comes to being “family pets,” but cats are often overlooked in this conversation. Some cats understand children and are extra tolerant. Studies have shown that cats be very affectionate to young children and teenagers.

When properly socialized, cats can be best friends with children. Socialization is important for cats to react to the voice of children, and it can take some patience and a trial and error period. When the interaction feels safe, they lean into the love, so don't get discouraged if it takes a bit for a cat to warm up to a child.

Walking a Cat Is No Longer Unusual

A few years ago, the idea of walking a cat on a leash felt like a novelty. Now, it is quietly becoming a trend among pet owners who want to safely enrich their indoor cats’ lives.

Harness training allows cats to explore the outdoors without the risks of traffic, predators or getting lost. Leash walks provide controlled exposure to the outside world. Of course, not every cat will take to it, so be sure to read your cat's body language to see if they would like a leash walk.

Cats need gradual training, starting indoors with a harness, then taking short supervised outings. The key is letting the cat set the pace. Just like in the video, the best walks do not look forced. They look like cooperation.

Mastiff Steals a Lollipop Like a Gentleman and It’s Just Too Cute

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 4:46pm

If you have a food-motivated dog in the house, you know just how tricky it can be to leave out a simple bowl of candy. Even well-mannered pups sometimes just can't resist getting a taste of whatever delicious aroma is drifting through the room.

For Winston, a Dogue de Bordeaux French Mastiff, it appeared he was hoping no one would notice if he quietly snuck just one tiny treat. He was careful. He was slow. He was quiet.

Lucky for us, his mom was recording, because this big dog's precision on a tiny lollipop stick is too cute to miss.

Watch him committing his first heist in this March 9 Instagram from @cardinalwinstonchurchill:

Unfortunately for Winston, his careful approach didn't stop Mom from spotting the shenanigans. Even as he slowly stepped away from the table, it was clear he hoped she might overlook the treat. And when he turned his head away with the lollipop still between his teeth, it's hard not to laugh at this little character.

Fans quickly sprang to his defense.

@_misswendyyy pointed out, "Well, he only took one. Very modest."

@aaronaaardvark1 shared, "Having this breed in the past, it will NOT be his last crime. They are like gentleman thieves. Love him." Honestly, that might be the perfect description of Winston's heist.

@the_blessed_three_ gushed, "How could you get mad at that big squishy face? He's not guilty. He's just too cute." No lies detected.

And if you're wondering what this handsome guy looked like as a little puppy, his mom shared a throwback video on March 11:

According to the American Kennel Club, the Dogue de Bordeaux is a large French Mastiff breed originally developed for guarding, hunting, and even pulling carts. Tue, 03/17/2026 - 4:30pm

Large dog breeds have a lot going for them, but they’re not a good fit for every household. That way, you'll feel less overwhelmed when trying to narrow down your next furry family member. After all, when it comes to petite dog breeds, these dogs under 10 pounds are hard to resist. Known for their pint-size build and playful personalities, teacup dogs have become increasingly common among pet lovers. What Are Teacup Dogs?

“Teacup dogs are essentially extra-small versions of already toy-size breeds,” says Nita Vasudevan, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. "The term isn’t an official breed classification used by veterinary or kennel organizations, but it’s commonly used to describe dogs bred to be much smaller than the standard size for their breed. And while every teacup breed is slightly different, they tend to share similar personality traits and features with their larger counterparts—they’re just miniaturized."

So why are these dog breeds so petite? "These pups are teeny because they’ve been selectively bred for size," Vasudevan notes. Though, she says to keep this in mind if you decide to get one of these pups, they can have health issue due to their tiny nature. “Sometimes a dog's tiny size comes with a higher risk of medical issues compared to standard toy breeds," she explains.

The Cutest Teacup Dog Breeds

The Pomeranian is adorably small as it is, but a teacup variety exist as well. “The Pomeranian is already a toy dog breed known for its fluffy coat and big personality,” Vasudevan says. “Teacup versions are bred to be even smaller—often under 4 pounds.”

Like the “regular” Pomeranian, the teacup version has a sweet, puppy-like face and big personality that can be saucy at times, according to  Liza Cahn, DVM, Embrace Pet Insurance veterinarian contributor. She also cites this tiny dog breed has an irresistible “smiling” look when its relaxed. Though, like many teacup breeds, the Teacup Pomeranian has a few potential health issues to keep in mind. “Their small size means they can be prone to issues like low blood sugar, dental crowding and tracheal collapse,” Vasudevan says. “They also tend to be a bit fragile, so they’re better suited for homes without very young children.”

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Inquisitive, lively, bold
  • Height: 6-7 inches
  • Weight: Under 4 pounds
  • Lifespan: 12-16 years
Teacup Chihuahua A cute and small dog in a flower field.

Chihuahuas are small at baseline, but Teacup Chihuahuas can be the size of a rat! “The Chihuahua is already one of the smallest dog breeds in the world, so Teacup Chihuahuas are essentially just very tiny individuals,” Vasudevan says.

Chihuahuas were originally bred to be companion dogs, and that includes the teacup variety. This little pup is incredibly loyal and loves to spend time with its humans, so, expect your teeny pooch to want to snuggle up if you bring one of these cutes home with you. It's no wonder why vets say they are such popular mini dogs to own in 2026.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Charming, graceful, sassy
  • Height: 5-8 inches
  • Weight: Under 6 pounds
  • Lifespan: 14–16 years

The Poodle comes in a range of sizes, including teacup. This teeny dog breed is slightly tinier than a Mini Poodle, but still looks like a standard Poodle—just significantly smaller. Like all Poodles, Teacup Poodles are smart and friendly. They also have a low-shedding coat, making them a good choice for fans of minature dogs with allergies.

These popular teacup dog breeds are playful but gentle, so regular exercise is helpful for good behavior. But don't worry, this toy pup is easy to train as well thanks to their intelligence, making them great companions and quick learners. Teacup Poodles are also adaptable, which is why vets say they are a good fit for many households.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Intelligent, agile, self-confident
  • Height: No more than 10 inches
  • Weight: Under 4-6 pounds
  • Lifespan: 10–18 years

Talk about small dogs that are super cute! Yorkies are dogs under 10 pounds already, but the teacup version is smaller than your usual four to seven-pound Yorkshire Terrier. “They can be affectionate and playful, but often still have that classic terrier boldness,” Vasudevan says. So, expect your Teacup Yorkie to have more than a little spunkiness.

While the Teacup Yorkie is teeny, it still has that sweet “old man” look that’s so endearing with the regular-sized Yorkie. This breed is very affectionate with nearly everyone that crosses its path, making it a good fit for outgoing owners. Yorkies tend to be playful, so have plenty of tiny toys at the ready for your pup.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Affectionate, sprightly, tomboyish
  • Height: 7-8 inches
  • Weight: Varies
  • Lifespan: 11-15 years

If you're looking for a dog that stays tiny and adorable, consider a Teacup Maltese! Like the regular-sized Maltese, the tinier version has a long, silky white coat. Vasudevan calls this mini dog a “gentle companion” with a calm demeanor. “They’re typically affectionate lap dogs and do well in quiet households,” she says.

The Maltese was originally bred to be a companion dog, and the teacup version also loves a solid snuggle. When your Teacup Maltese isn’t cuddling in your lap, this pooch will make friends with whoever is around. This breed isn’t the most high-energy, so you can expect plenty of naps together in your future.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Playful, charming, gentle
  • Height: 7-9 inches
  • Weight: Under 7 pounds
  • Lifespan: 12-15 years
Teacup Shih Tzu A Shih Tzu in a teacup.

Shih Tzus aren’t a large dog by any stretch, but the teacup version can be as small as a can of soda! Like the “regular” Shih Tzu, this little dog has large eyes and a pushed-in nose for an irresistible look. They also require regular grooming due to their long, double coat.

Teacup Shih Tzus tend to be quiet, which is a nice perk among small dogs. They also love to spend time with their humans and are eager to please. As a result, they’re often easy to train. These dogs aren’t high energy, so expect your Shih Tzu to squeeze in plenty of rest and cuddles throughout the day.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Playful, affectionate, outgoing
  • Height: 9-10.5 inches
  • Weight: Under 9 pounds
  • Lifespan: 10-18 years
Teacup Dachshund A small dog running.

Mini Dachshunds already have a small build thanks to their adorably stubby legs. But these weiner dogs also come in a teacup version that can fit in the palm of your hand. Dachshunds love to be around humans, earning them a reputation as “Velcro dogs.” But this pooch also enjoys giving and receiving affection, making them a great companion.

Dachshunds are smart and sometimes stubborn, so training may take time and patience. However, these cuties are a curious breed that loves to play, giving you plenty to explore together in the future. Something to keep in mind: Dachshunds tend to think of themselves as small guard dogs, so be prepared for your pup to alert you to danger even if it’s just the mailman.

Breed Stats
  • Personality: Curious, friendly, spunky
  • Height: 8-9 inches
  • Weight: Under 5-7 pounds
  • Lifespan: 12–16 years

Otter Pups’ ‘Post Swim Class Snuggle’ Is Like Heaven on Tape

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 4:00pm

Baby otters are one of my favorite things to look at. I think they're the most precious little things in the world, because they are. Who doesn't love baby otters? That feels impossible! As if they couldn't get cuter, though, adult otters are also precious.

Recently, a couple of baby otters got to go to a swim class. They live at a nature center in California, and they have to learn the basics, which a human has been assigned to teach them. Apparently, though, swimming is exhausting, and they needed a snuggle after:

Nurtured by Nature has several different kinds of animals living at their facility in California. They work closely with the Department of Wildlife and take in animals who need help, which often means taking in some otters. They have babies from time to time, but it's mostly adults there.

Babies are a rare treat, and sisters Pearl and Sapphire are just way too cute. They most likely had some swimming instincts, but they don't have a mom to teach them how to fully swim. That's okay, though; they can still learn!

Otters Are Not Born Knowing How to Swim

Depending on the type of otter, otter pups might not even be born in the water. While sea otters typically have water births, river otters give birth in dens! Regardless, though, none of the pups know how to swim or float when they're born.

Otters are born blind. They spend about a week gaining strength, and then their mom starts giving them swimming lessons. Gradually, over about 8 weeks, they learn to survive in the water. Pearl and Sapphire officially know how to swim on their own:

Orphaned otters who aren't rescued, unfortunately, do not stand a chance. Otters are either born in the water or on the shoreline, and their main food source is in the water. So, without knowing how to swim, they can't eat.

One of the first things Nurtured By Nature teaches their baby otters is how to swim. Hand in hand with that, apparently, is teaching them how to snuggle!

German Shepherd Joins Neighborhood Kids’ Game Like He’s on the Team

Tue, 03/17/2026 - 2:55pm

If you are a parent lucky enough to live in a neighborhood where kids still run outside to play until the streetlights come on, you know how special those moments are. The sound of kids laughing through the yard, a football getting tossed around, and kids making up games together is something many families love about living in places with other children around.

One German Shepherd named Tommy recently got to experience that same kind of childhood magic when he was invited to join a group of neighborhood kids playing outside.

@kellyscaninebase

Ok this is just so SOO special to me. My neighbors and I were sitting on the grassy hills and our little kids were somewhere behind us. Well, random kids came and they had a baseball and football and of course my dog wanted to say hi to them. So I went over and told them his name is Tommy and he would love to run with them. They said that’s okay! He joined them as if he were a little kid as well. I have 3 dogs and worked with probably a thousand different dogs but this dog’s temperament is not from this world. When they went home they all told him goodbye and he came to me as happy as a dog can be. Now he’s deeply asleep. I wish I could clone this dog. My best boy. Thank you to those precious children for letting Tommy be a part of them! #germanshepherd #germanshepherdsoftiktok #gsdoftiktok #gsdlife #gsdlover

The adorable video, shared on the TikTok account @kellyscaninebase, shows Tommy happily running alongside a group of kids as they toss a football and play games together.

According to Tommy’s dog mom, the moment happened completely by accident.

In the caption, she explains that she and some neighbors were sitting on grassy hills nearby while their younger kids played behind them. Soon, a group of older kids showed up with a baseball and a football and started playing nearby.

Of course, Tommy wanted to say hello.

So his mom walked over and introduced him.

“I went over and told them his name is Tommy and he would love to run with them,” she wrote. “They said that’s okay.”

From that moment on, Tommy blended right into the group.

“He joined them as if he were a little kid as well.”

His mom says she has three dogs and has worked with hundreds of others over the years, but Tommy’s personality stands out even among the best.

“I have three dogs and worked with probably a thousand different dogs, but this dog’s temperament is not from this world.”

When the kids finally wrapped up their game and headed home, they even made sure to say goodbye to their newest teammate.

“When they went home, they all told him goodbye, and he came to me as happy as a dog can be.”

After all that running and excitement, Tommy apparently did what any kid would do after a long day outside.

He went home and immediately fell asleep.

People in the comments loved seeing a pooch included in the neighborhood fun.

“Glad to see a dog outside playing and not on a tablet or phone,” one person joked.

Another person was impressed with Tommy’s athletic skills.

“I’m more impressed by how the dog understood the rules of football.”

Some viewers shared similar memories from their own lives.

“I had a Golden when I lived in Florida. The kids would knock on the door and ask if Brewster could come out and play. The kids called me Brewster’s mom. Best boy I ever had. I miss him every day.”

Others joked that Tommy might need to follow the same rules as the kids.

“As long as your dog knows to come home when the streetlights come on!”

One person predicted that Tommy may have made a lifelong impression on the kids he played with.

“All of those boys will adopt a German Shepherd one day because of this.”

Another viewer added that the impact could last even longer.

“Your dog is making an impression on them, too, and at least one of them is going to grow up loving German Shepherds and having one. I’d guarantee it.”

And one commenter summed up the wholesome moment perfectly.

“I don’t even know you, and I’m so happy for your dog.” Same. This is just the sweetest thing ever.

What Dogs Can Teach Kids German Shepherd and small boy.

Moments like this highlight the wonderful role dogs can play in children’s lives. Growing up around pups often teaches kids empathy, patience, and responsibility.

Dogs also encourage kids to spend time outdoors, stay active, and interact with others in their community. A friendly dog can become the unofficial mascot of a neighborhood, bringing kids together in ways that screens and devices simply cannot.

For many children, memories of playing outside with a beloved pup become some of the happiest moments of childhood.

While moments like this are super sweet, it's always important to make sure dogs are properly identified in case they wander away from home.

A secure collar with an up-to-date ID tag can help ensure a dog is quickly returned if they get lost. Microchipping is also strongly recommended, since a chip can provide permanent identification if a collar comes off.

Even the most well-behaved dog can sometimes follow an exciting adventure a little too far. Having proper identification in place helps make sure that every good dog, like Tommy, finds his way safely back home.
