In the TikTok from @honeybunnythegolden, the precious pooch sat in her living room as her mom asked her a very important question.

"Are you going to have a sleepover?" Her mom said to Honey, who immediately perked up at the word "sleepover". "Are you going to Murph's house?"

Apparently, this little get-together was unplanned and meant as a fun surprise for Honey and her fur baby beau.

"Surprising my dog with a last-minute sleepover at her boyfriend's," the onscreen text explained, with the caption adding, "She was more than happy to have a sleepover... What better way to spend a Friday night!?"

After hearing the news, Honey couldn't get to Murph's house fast enough. She sped-walked ahead of her mom, who carried Honey's overnight bag.

The canine cutie could barely contain her excitement as she waited at Murph's door. Honey barreled through as soon as it opened to an equally animated Murph, who greeted her with pure enthusiasm. The two scampered away to start their night, probably filled with lots of playing, snacking, and cuddling.

Followers raved over the canine couple and noted Honey's immediate action at the mere mention of her boyfriend.

"The eyes when you say sleepover," one remarked.

"She was already running," another pointed out.

"She really said, yup let’s go!" someone posted.

Honey and Murph Have a History

Previous posts reveal that this is not a new romance but a long-term relationship. Videos of Honey and Murph on several playdates show their beautiful bond.

Clips of the gorgeous Goldens playing, walking together, and even holding paws make it clear that this doggie duo has a rock-solid connection. These two fur babies are true besties.

It's easy understand why a dog her size might hesitate at first. 

People often scoop up small pups or lean over them without realizing how intimidating that can feel. Matilda's mom and uncle took a different route. He stayed low to the ground. He avoided hovering over her. Instead of reaching across her head, he offered gentle chest scratches, then paused to see if she wanted more. That pause gave her control of the moment.

After a few scratches, Matilda switched gears and invited him to play. She hopped over him with her toy, a good sign that she was feeling more comfortable. And when she decided she was done, that choice was respected.

Gradual Exposure and Choices Help Fearful Dogs Build Confidence

According to the Animal Humane Society, helping an anxious or fearful dog gain confidence begins with gradual exposure to new people and situations at a pace the dog can manage. They advise letting dogs approach voluntarily, avoiding forced contact, and paying close attention to body language. Positive reinforcement and allowing a dog to move away when needed are also key parts of the process.

That's what played out here. Matilda wasn't cornered or coaxed. She was given space, clear signals, and the freedom to decide how far to go. Over time, those steady, low-pressure interactions help dogs connect new experiences with safety rather than stress.

Matilda didn't change overnight, but she walked away feeling steadier than the day before. And that's real progress.

An Endangered Huon Tree Joey Is Born View this post on Instagram

According to a report from the organization, the baby, a male born in late July 2025, is the first offspring of Pearl and Tristan, a kangaroo pair who moved to DZCA as part of an Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP) breeding recommendation. These carefully coordinated breeding programs help accredited zoos maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations of vulnerable species—essentially acting as a safety net for animals whose numbers in the wild are shrinking.

And Huon tree kangaroos fall squarely into that vulnerable category. Native to the mountainous rainforests of Papua New Guinea, these elusive marsupials spend much of their lives high in the trees, using strong forelimbs and long tails to climb and balance.

But habitat destruction and hunting have caused their wild population to decline significantly, earning them an "endangered" status. When numbers are low, every single birth matters—not just for cuteness points, but for long-term survival.

Growing Up in the Pouch

Like all marsupials, Huon tree kangaroos enter the world extremely underdeveloped—roughly the size of a jellybean. Shortly after birth, the tiny joey instinctively made his way into his mother’s pouch, where he has continued to grow and develop out of sight for months as zoo staff carefully tracked his progress.

Now about six months old, he’s beginning to show himself more often. Care staff have noticed him squirming in Pearl’s pouch and poking his head out with increasing curiosity—a clear sign he’s gaining strength and confidence. In the months ahead, he’ll start making short excursions outside the pouch before eventually venturing out on his own.

While guests may not always get a clear view, catching even a glimpse of this tiny face is something special. Because beyond the adorableness, this joey represents something much bigger: hope. For endangered species like the Huon tree kangaroo, every successful birth strengthens the safety net and helps ensure future generations will still have a place in the treetops.

And sometimes, conservation victories really do start small—about jellybean-sized, in fact.

I tend to say that I have the hardest dogs in the world to manage. My three Boston Terriers give me a run for my money every single day! Sometimes, though, I see another dog breed that has me positively shaking in my boots.

Number one on that list is, of course, the Belgian Malinois. Just look at how this one was acting, and at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, of all places:

Samantha Niemeck is somehow able to handle her Malinois, and I think that's amazing. The dog's name is Tuppence, and she is perfect in every single way. She's a showdog, a family dog, and a little bit of a pain in the tail.

In this video, they're trying to wait very calmly for their turn. Samantha is doing a great job of that, but Tuppence is just too excited. She can't wait to get up there and show the judges everything she's got!

Tuppence is not just a star because she's awful at calmly waiting in line. She's a decorated participant in the WKC Dog Show! She participates in the "herding" category.

This year, that gorgeous girl actually clinched "Best In Breed," which is a huge honor. Obviously, not being able to wait her turn in a perfect sit didn't matter too much. When you see her in action, you'll understand:

I am in love with this dog. Though I don't typically tune into the WKC Dog Show myself, now that I know she's a participant, I'll be watching! She did so well!

Belgian Malinois Are Excellent Dogs

If you know how to handle this breed, it's genuinely one of the best. Though they might not be the best choice for a home with small kids or lots of other pets, they are a great choice for:

1. Farm life.
2. Police work.
3. Service dog training.
4. Homes with active parents.

These dogs need rigorous training, even if you're not planning on working them or showing them. There are entire businesses dedicated to training these dogs, which just goes to show how rough it can be!

It's always such a gift to stumble across puppy content, because although I rescued one of my dogs around 12 weeks, it went so fast, I hardly remember. Kind of like with human babies, it's easy to get lost in the joy of every new thing they do.

Tot and Brother Tater Are Healthy and Happy

The night of January 25 into the wee hours of the 26th, Black Lab mom Mighty gave birth to two exquisite puppy specimens, Tater and Tot!

Mom wrote in the celebratory post that "both babies are healthy, fat, and hungry," adding they chose the litter's theme as "potatoes" because all Mama Mighty's nicknames are potato-based. I'm a little biased, having a dog named Tater Tot, but it's pretty much the best name ever.

With the average litter of 5 to 8 puppies for a first-time Retriever parent, I'd say Mighty got lucky with the perfectly baked taters. They're so beautiful, I could cry.

As a mom of two cats, I can confirm that (in my house, at least) treat time and meal time quickly become some of the most chaotic moments of the day. My kitties are always down for a snack, and when it's that time of day, the meows are very loud and completely relentless. They will never let you forget!

They're basically the opposite of the extremely polite Oriental Shorthair cat in the TikTok video below. It's no wonder she gets treats with manners like these!

On Tuesday, February 10, @fivecrazycats shared this footage of what happens when Belle wants a treat. Not only does this precious baby meow ever so quietly to let her mom know what she wants, but she's also very patient about the whole thing. Impressive!

Once she knows one is on the way, she sits on the ground, all proper, purring her heart out until her treats are served — and even then, she still doesn't lose her mind to get to the treat first.

Oriental Shorthair Cats Aren't Always Quiet

Ready to be even more impressed by Belle? If you don't know much about the Oriental Shorthair breed, you might not know that these are particularly talkative cats... so being as quiet and polite as she is can't be easy for her!

As Daily Paws points out, not only are these cats chatty, but they also make plenty of other vocalizations too, including one that's most accurately described as a "honk." They're very social cats who tend to get attached to their favorite humans quite easily, so it makes sense that they'd be big communicators!

They are also filled with energy, which means being calm and patient probably didn't come naturally to Belle, either. She's such a queen!

As far as I'm concerned, this cat deserves all the treats in the world for using her manners as well as she does. I have a feeling Belle would agree with me on that.

Dogs in shelters are often very guarded, scared, and afraid to be themselves due to the stress they've endured and fear of the unfamiliar, chaotic environment. The TikTok from @tellingourtails shares Logan's story and how he was spontaneously brought out of a shelter.

"Yesterday I visited the shelter and ended up leaving with a Pug," the onscreen text explained as Logan was gently taken out of his kennel. "I saw a scared, shut down dog and knew I couldn't leave him."

Muddy Paws, a well-known New York animal rescue, was able to step in and find Logan a wonderful foster home while waiting for adoption. As soon as the canine cutie had a taste of freedom, he couldn't contain his excitement on his new chapter in life. Logan got a celebratory case of the zoomies and ran around, almost like he knew this was his fresh start.

"As soon as we got out of the shelter, his silly side came out!" the story continued as Logan joyfully pranced around, showing his exuberant personality.

The precious pooch got a medical checkup at Muddy Paws and was given a clean bill of health before hopping on the subway for his new adventure. Logan was a "perfect gentleman" during the ride, as if he had been a commuter his whole life.

The fur baby continued having fun as he took a walk before meeting his foster. The spring in his step showed such a difference from the frightened, cowering pup back at the shelter.

Logan Went From 'Shut Down' to 'Silly'

Being in a calm, secure environment and receiving plenty of love and affection completely transformed Logan's demeanor.

"From fearful and shut down at the shelter to silly, happy boy," the onscreen text shared, as Logan got another hilarious case of the zoomies, this time on the couch. "He brought a lot of giggles to our home."

Logan literally spun in circles, obviously feeling perfectly safe and adored in his surroundings.

Kyle the Orange Shelter cat didn’t just survive—he graduated, and his party was big enough to make the whole internet cry.

He arrived at San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido Campus last summer after surviving a coyote attack, battered but alive and very, very lucky. Because he’d been bitten, Kyle had to do something most cats (and humans) would absolutely fail at: a full 6-month rabies quarantine. No adoption events. No roaming the shelter freely. Just time, monitoring, and the hope that the worst was truly behind him.

And yet, the way the staff tell it, he didn’t spend those six months “in isolation” so much as “holding court.” They set him up in a cozy office space with windows, comfy beds and a stroller for little indoor “walks.” A small team of rabies-vaccinated staff became his inner circle, providing enrichment games, snacks, and what sounds like an outrageous amount of conversation. Kyle quickly made it clear that he enjoys visitors, Churu treats, window time and voicing his very loud opinions—especially when he’s hungry. Honestly? Same.

So when he finally passed quarantine and was officially cleared for adoption, the Escondido crew did not just pat him on the head and quietly move him to the adoption floor. They threw a full-on graduation party. There were banners. Party hats. Stickers. Kyle trivia. Cupcakes with his handsome orange face printed on top. And of course, a tiny cap and gown for the guest of honor.

The TikTok of his big day shows shelter staff lined up, clapping and cheering as Kyle “walks” at the front of his stroller, hat slightly askew, looking like the world’s most dignified, slightly over it, office manager finally being allowed to retire. It’s funny and adorable, but it’s also deeply moving: every person in that room fought for this cat to have a future where someone would show up just for him.

As someone who adopted my dog Lola from a situation where people worried she might never fully relax or trust, this hits me right in the chest. The patience it takes to show up day after day for an animal who can’t yet leave, can’t yet go home, can’t yet be “chosen”—that is love in its least glamorous but most powerful form.

Turkeys are magnificent creatures to have around your home. While they aren't thought of as a traditional pet, like cats and dogs are, some can be incredibly affectionate with their humans. One homesteading turkey mom shares her adventures with her turkeys on her TikTok account, @tallqueenbaby, and recently led the internet to a stunning revelation. You can burp turkeys. In her demonstration video, she sits in the coop with her tom Eli, who seems more than ready to get his burp for the day.

I don't know about you, but when I think of burping something, I imagine it like burping a child, on your shoulder with gentle pats on the back. That's not quite how this one works. Instead, you position the turkey in front of you and reach around the front of its chest, which can't be very comfortable for either of you.

But it's a testament to how much Eli trusts her. He sits perfectly still, though he does start to get a bit impatient as Mom tries to be thorough with her explanation for the audience. She explains that you need to start with a solid grip on the bird. The tail goes between your legs so they can't puff up and flutter away on you, compromising your hold on them.

She explains that to line up properly with her turkey's air sacks, she uses the beard's position and keeps her fingers beneath the feathers so she can align with the start of the beard. Then slowly press in and move down, releasing the pent-up air from your turkey's air sacs. Eli definitely let out quite the burp as Mom pressed down, and was quite satisfied with the result, strutting away from the camera at the end.

If you are wondering what just happened and why the burping, don't worry. You aren't the only one who is slightly confused and impressed all at the same time. The first video led to a follow-up because, well, we the people have questions! Eli's mom took to TikTok answering the top questions from the How to video.

The top question wasn't why, but rather how it smells. She answers the question as only a pet mother could, "It's not pleasant." She elaborates, saying it is hot air mixed with what they eat: grains and corn. So a hot, grainy smell. It almost makes me think of what beer distilleries smell like when the hops are in the fermentation process. It's really not the most pleasant smell in the world.

Secondly, people wanted to know if turkeys need burping. The short answer is no. She explains that burping serves as a bonding tool with the Toms and can help alleviate the excess buildup in their air sacs from puffing up and strutting about. While it can provide them some relief, it really shouldn't be done too often. And if done incorrectly, burping can damage a turkey's air sacs. So you have to be sure you know what you are doing before you attempt this on your own birds.

Finally, turkeys can burp on their own. They really don't need human intervention in this department. But one would imagine that if wild turkeys are still strutting around just fine, then your flock at home will likely be okay too.

1. Your Cat Does Slow Blinks

Warner says one sign your cat is happy is if they slow blink, which is sometimes called a "cat kiss" and is a way a cat talks ith their eyes. “This is a true sign of affection from your pet,” she notes. “The act of closing eyes is a huge vulnerability in the animal kingdom, as it means that your cat is not scanning for danger.” When your cat looks at you and slowly closes their eyes, they are telling you they trust you and feel safe around you, Warner reveals. “You can respond to this by also blinking back at them slowly, which can help build a stronger bond with your pet,” she adds.

2. They’re Super Playful

An active, playful kitty is usually in a good mood. “Playfulness can also indicate happiness,” Warner points out. “When your cat is playing with a feather wand or a toy, it is showing you that they have energy and that they feel safe enough in their environment to have fun.”

This stems back to kittenhood, when they would do this to their mother to stimulate milk let-down, says Chyrle Bonk, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. “As you can imagine, nursing makes a kitten feel content, satisfied and safe,” she says. “So, when an adult cat does that when sitting on your lap, they are conveying those same feelings.”

4. They’re Grooming Regularly 

One happy cat behavior to look out for has to do with their grooming habits. No matter if you have an independent cat or a really affectionate feline, cats that groom regularly and in a calm manner are usually in a good mood, according to Warner. “Grooming is a self-soothing behavior that releases endorphins, or ‘feel-good’ hormones,” she says. “When your cat is sitting in the middle of the room grooming their paws or face, it can mean that they are not feeling rushed or threatened.”

Happy cats take pride in their appearance, Warner points out, so this is an important cat body language sign that your feline family member is comfortable in their environment. “If they stop grooming and you start noticing an unkempt coat, there might be something wrong with your cat,” she adds. 

5. Their Tail Has a Unique Shape

When it comes to cat body language, your feline companion can show their mood through their tail. While they don't wag it like dogs do, their tail forms into a hook-shaped or question mark tail, which signals that your cat is feeling good and is happy, according to Bonk. “When a cat comes at you with a question mark tail, they are telling you that they are up for an interaction,” she says. “They’re curious about you, yet feel safe and content with you around.” Basically, cats who display this tail shape are displaying positive cat body language, especially around people they trust.

6. They Make Their Signature Sound

Sure, it’s hardly shocking that cats will purr, but what does it mean when a cat purrs? Purring is one of the most common signs your cat is happy and a key part of cat body language. “Purring stems from kittenhood,” Bonk says. “It’s a way that mothers and kittens communicate. Purring promotes relaxation and calmness, so cats often use it when they are getting comfortable. This shows the people that they are with that they trust them and feel safe and happy with them around."

So, the next time your cat does this, just know this is a classic example of happy cat behavior and one of the clearest cat mood signs.

On February 4, 2026, @cazadors_family shared a video of their cute gray Persian cat named Cazador. He's rocking an interesting haircut—most of his coat is cut short, likely to keep him cool and comfortable—a break from his long, fluffy, and thick fur. Cazador has a cute puffball at the end of his tail, and his face is still fully fuzzy, which is a very interesting look.

While that's cute on its own and he definitely deserves a spotlight for his cool looks, it's the funny game Cazador likes to play that's got the people watching. He's playing a legitimate game of fetch. Yes, that game made famous by dogs who love to chase, track down, and bring back the toy that's been tossed. And if you didn't see his very obvious cat features, Cazador could be mistaken for a dog.

He's got laser-focused eyes on the toy while it's in his human's hand, and the second it's thrown and lands on the floor, he's already at the other end of the room to catch it. And yes, he carries the toy back in his mouth and drops it for his human to start the game all over again.

Can You Teach a Cat To Play Fetch?

Cazador is a natural at fetch and seems to be having the best time chasing and collecting the toy once it's launched from his human's hand. It's not clear in the video whether this Persian cat taught himself how to play fetch or if his humans did, but there are some steps you can take if you're hoping to play the same game with your cat. 

According to Chewy, you can train your cat to play fetch, but it won't be easy. Remember when I said that getting a kitty to do what you want is really challenging? The same applies here, but the first step is to find a toy they love and to have a good reward treat. 

The experts explain that the next step in training is to get your cat interested in the toy you'll use for fetch. If you start playing with the toy yourself, that will pique their interest, and they will eventually want to get in on the fun you're having. Once those two things have been established, you just need to throw the toy a very short distance, and if they have an interest in the toy, they'll run after it. Then, the final step is to reward them when they bring the toy back, and before you know it, you'll have your very own cat who thinks they're a dog. Just like Cazador.

Jeter, the Golden Retriever, just woke up, and like many of us (for various reasons), he appears to be having some difficulty getting his thoughts together.

It doesn’t help that his papa is peppering him with questions about the previous evening. Poor pup.

Judging by the questions, I can only imagine that Jeter was overserved the night before and is having some trouble piecing together what happened. Now, whether that was overdoing it on the pup cups at the local coffee shop or getting into a feline friend’s catnip stash is anyone’s guess!

Fans can’t get enough of this sweet fella and had lots to say about his morning confusion.

Others had less nefarious explanations for Jeter’s apparent confusion.

Regardless of what’s behind a little morning sluggishness, Jeter still looks like a million bucks for just waking up. Look at that gorgeous face and beautiful coat! What a sweetheart!

Do Dogs Wake up as Confused as Humans Do?

Absolutely! They can be confused, disoriented, or startled when they wake up, particularly if they're awakened abruptly from a deep sleep or REM cycle. This state often causes temporary dazed behavior, which is linked to a "sleep startle reflex," where they may not immediately recognize their surroundings, resulting in confusion, or in some cases, protective, snappy, or fearful reactions.

Judging by Jeter’s disposition, I’m pretty sure this adorable fella is just a little confused and would be happy to go right back to sleep after all these annoying questions.

“What a buzzkill,” I imagine him saying about his pet pappa. “Now, where did that catnip go?”

For dogs, walks with their pet parents are a special time for play, bonding and exercise. When that time is threatened or no longer fun, sometimes pet parents have to figure out a way to get the magic back. For one rescue dog on TikTok, his owner had to step in and make their walking routine special again, and it included appeasing a local neighborhood cat that was putting a damper on their walks.

For Cactus, a rescue dog whose owner posts his life on TikTok, every walk recently followed the same pattern. He would step onto the sidewalk with excitement, his tail moving nonstop. Yet, a few houses down the street, all of that would vanish as he encountered the neighborhood cat called Orange Boy.

Previous encounters rarely ended calmly, with the cat having a habit of jumping out at Cactus. He would appear suddenly from bushes or fences, startling Cactus and his owner.

But they had a plan how to get them to be friends. After several tense moments, the family decided to change their approach. Instead of trying to avoid the area, they planned a peace offering. They brought some small cat-safe treats and approached the usual meeting slowly.

After a few scary run-ins with THE Orange Boy (aka the neighborhood cat who owns our walking route), we decided to make a peace offering. Being good neighbors felt like the right move before giving up on diplomacy entirely. Good news, the first attempt was a success. Orange Boy accepted the treat and, most importantly, did not jump out at us. Cactus, on the other hand, was extremely excited about this historic moment. Stay tuned… negotiations are ongoing.

This time, as Orange Boy was watching from a distance, they offered him treats on the ground and stepped back. They gave the cat space to decide, and as he picked up the treats and ate them, he stayed in place rather than jumping toward Cactus.

On his part, Cactus was excited with this development, and we cannot wait to see whether the two will become the best of friends.

Walking a Rescue Dog

Pet parents with rescue dogs know this type of feeling all too well when out for walks. Rescue dog owners may have to deal with unpredictable outdoor encounters during their daily walks, and rescue puppies often carry trauma from past experiences. They need time to adjust to new environments, and walks can often be a stressful experience.

The trick is to plan routes, carry treats and read body language as best you can. Always watch how pets respond to neighborhood animals and adjust expectations.

So maybe being a watchdog isn’t Milo’s thing. He is awfully cute, though.

True, Milo is still a puppy, but chances are this Golden Retriever won’t gain more watchdog skills with time. The thing that makes Golden Retrievers terrific family dogs also makes them less than stellar watchdogs – this breed is friendly.

Sure, Golden Retrievers are large and loyal, but they love to make a friend and socialize more than they have the desire to protect their surroundings. With a pup this cute and this social, chances are the humans may end up watching the watchdog, not the other way around.

Golden Retrievers aren’t completely without their protective instincts. This breed will bark at strangers and some can be territorial or protective of the family home. Overall, however, this breed is more teddy bear than terrifying.

'Tis the season to have hair full of static, especially if you are an adorable Longhaired Dachshund.

As we get through these long, cold winter months, one of the many other joys of winter is all the static shocks.

This is because there's more dryness in the air during the winter.

Erica Carlson, 150th Anniversary Professor of Physics and host of "The Quantum Age" at Purdue University, said static electricity is worse in the winter compared to the other seasons.

It is due to the lack of moisture in the air, which creates a prime field for static buildup, Carlson said from her office in Purdue's Physics Building.

Carlson said that when the air has a higher moisture percentage, molecules move more easily, but when it is dry, they tend to build up in one place.

All that to say, this scientific effect has come for the dogs.

So why do dogs get static hair? There's an imbalance of electric charges that happens when electrons transfer from one surface to another, and then an electric charge can build up.

As we mentioned before, dry air is a big culprit, as low humidity in the winter (and the same with air-conditioning in the summer) makes it easier for static charges to accumulate.
