Golden Retriever Who 'Thinks He's Being Included' by the Other Dogs Is Breaking Our Hearts
My Pug mix can be a bit socially awkward. He's clumsy and has no sense of personal space, attributes that I find totally adorable. Still, other dogs sense his insecurities and tend to either try to intimidate him or give him the cold shoulder despite his efforts to be one of the gang. Thankfully, his older Doxie sister always has his back and is his full-time BFF.
Sailor the Golden Retriever seems to have the same desire to fit in and is so tender-hearted that he doesn't even realize when he's being pushed out of the crowd.
@sailorthenycgoldenHe just bunny hops around them😭😂 #nycdogs #goldenretriever #dogsoftiktok #fyp #cutedog
♬ original sound - Vids - AesiraIn the TikTok from @sailorthenycgolden, the canine cutie was at a local dog park with several other dogs of various breeds. Sailor kept trying to infiltrate a group of three playful pooches who seemed busy with their own sort of roughhousing game.
As the canine trio jumped on each other and scurried around, Sailor hopped around on the periphery of the circle, attempting to join in. Whether the three dogs were purposely keeping him out of the game or just didn't notice he couldn't get a paw in was unclear.
Even when the threesome ran in a different area, Sailor followed them with total enthusiasm. The gorgeous Golden was under the impression that he was a part of the game, making the scene even more heartbreaking.
"My sweet boy always wants to play and thinks he's being included but he's not," the onscreen text shared, with the caption adding, "He just bunny hops around them."
Followers fell in love with Sailor's sweet spirit and empathized with being excluded.
"He just needs to find HIS true friends," one remarked.
"Oh bless him. He is gorgeous. My dog would play with him," another raved.
"I've felt like him my whole life — please hug him tonight," a follower posted.
"I hope after this, you gave him the BIGGEST cuddles ever," someone commented.

Humongous Rare Shepherd's Shaggy Haircut Makes Him Look Straight Out of a Fantasy Movie
With so many dog breeds in the world, you might wonder what it takes to get that "rare" status. It can be something as trivial as fur coloring or as noteworthy as an interesting job they're bred for, and for some, it's all about size.
A Shepherd named Major is among one of the rarest breeds known for looking like gargantuan and fantastical pups you might see in fiction. But there's one important thing that sets him apart from others in his lane. Hint: it makes him all the more lovable!
@traceebingsMajor turns ONE in 3days🥺🥳🍰 Loved you for 10 months already🥹 #caucasianshepherd #largebreed #guarddog #ovcharka #major🐾🖤 @TristanBings10
♬ original sound - Nhour Ain_🤎 - 𝓝 ᥫ᭡.At the time of the montage post shared by Major's mom, Tracee (via @traceebings), the Caucasian Shepherd Dog was about to celebrate his first birthday. As you can see already, the rare dog is large and in charge with the cutest shaggy hair you'd spot in a cartoon movie (and proud of it)!
Even as a puppy, Major's distinguishable wispy hair has a dark and light contrast and floppy ears that are to die for!
Related: Rare Mammoth-Sized Dog Who's Worth Thousands Looks Like the Cowardly Lion
He celebrated his birthday in the best way, filled with all Major's favorite things. Reaching a year old means he's just about 20% away from his full size. Tack on a bit more weight and height, and Major will thwart any potential intruders with his size alone... as long as he isn't the happy, smiling pup as seen in all his posts!
@traceebingsHappy 1st Birthday to my baby Major🐶🐾🎂🦴 #caucasianshepherd #largebreed #guarddog #ovcharka #major🐾🖤 @TristanBings10
♬ original sound - Rochelle J. How Big Do Caucasian Shepherd Dogs Get?As one of the biggest, most ancient breeds, Caucasian Shepherd Dogs are massive pups who can grow to be more than 170 pounds and 30+ inches tall at the shoulder for females, and males could rival grown human men, weighing upward of 220 pounds or more! They'll hit all the major growth milestones in the first year, making them some colossal-looking puppies.
Just looking at one of the powerful, giant breed dogs, you can tell they're built with solid muscle, thick bones, and a dense, heavy double coat that can withstand all kinds of weather.
Bred for centuries as guardians of livestock, this type of Shepherd isn't for the novice dog parent. Described as bold, fierce, and confident, these intensely loyal pups don't take kindly to any perceived threats, but they're loving companions to their families, including other pets.
That said, if I came across a good boy like Major, I'd completely forget how domineering/intimidating this breed can be because he sure is adorable!

Farm Cat Chews on a Chicken’s Feet Like They're a Sweet Treat
You know those moments where a cat has a thought… and instead of ignoring it, fully commits? This is one of those.
Because at no point should a chicken’s foot look like a snack, and yet here we are.
@wallflour6 ♬ original sound - your preferred nameTikTok user @wallflour6 shared a clip from a farm where a gray cat spots a chicken perched just above him and decides to investigate in the most questionable way possible.
Instead of just watching like a normal kitty, he reaches up and tries to gnaw on the chicken’s foot like it’s a casual little treat. The chicken, understandably, isn't interested and immediately pulls it away, like, absolutely not.
Related: Tabby Cat Hugs His Chicken Bestie Like He Never Wants To Let Go
It’s quick, it’s chaotic, and it feels like a decision that was made with zero long-term planning.
Viewers had a lot to say about it:
• “He just wanted a chicken finger.”
• “Is this a sweet treat?”
• “Not the little sample taste.”
• “Cats like, ‘I’ve never had it this fresh before.’”
• “Chicken said. ‘I’m still using these.’”
• “These chicken fingers are way undercooked.”
• “Intrusive thoughts taking over.”
Honestly, the confidence is what makes it. He didn’t hesitate. He saw the foot and thought, yes, that seems like something I should try.
My Maine Coon, Meatball, would absolutely consider this and then get distracted halfway through and walk away, as if nothing happened. Which is probably for the best.
What Do Farm Cats Do? @hidden_spring_farmHow Our Barn Cats Start Their Day #barncats #farmcats #theclawcrew
♬ original sound - Hidden Spring FarmFarm cats live a slightly different life than indoor cats, and moments like this are kind of proof.
• They help control rodent populations by hunting mice and other small pests.
• They often roam freely and explore barns, fields, and outbuildings.
• Farm cats tend to be more independent and self-sufficient animals.
• They interact with other farm animals in unpredictable ways… clearly.
• Their curiosity can lead to some very questionable decisions.
• They’re still cats at the end of the day, which means chaos is always a possibility.
So while most farm cats are busy doing actual useful work…
Every now and then, one decides to try a chicken foot just to see what happens.
And honestly, you kind of have to respect the curiosity.

Family Is Frantic When Dog Goes Missing—Then They Find Her With an Unexpected Friend
There are few things that turn a normal day into instant panic faster than realizing your dogis missing.
Not “maybe she’s in the other room” missing.
Not “check behind the couch” missing.
The kind of missing where your stomach drops, your brain gets loud, and suddenly every worst-case scenario starts lining up like it paid admission.
@pollyequestrian_They were just chilling like besties 🤣 #equine #equestrianlife #horse #dog #puppy
♬ original sound - alexThat is exactly the setup here.
The video opens with a close-up of the sweetest horse nose imaginable, which is already a strong start, but then the caption drops the real story: They lost their dog and found her here half an hour later. The camera pans down, and there she is, tucked inside the horse’s pen, like this was the obvious place to spend her unauthorized adventure.
And honestly, once you see it, it kind of is.
The clip begins with full family panic and ends with a dog who appears to have quietly joined a horse support group without telling anyone. She's not hiding under a porch. She's not sprinting across a highway. She's in the pen, hanging out with an unexpected friend, as if she took one look around the world, made a choice, and said, yes, I will be spending my unsupervised time with this large, gentle roommate.
One comment says, “Omg... this has happened to me, too... looked everywhere, etc., back to stable where I started... AND she was there ☺️” which somehow makes the whole thing even funnier. Full panic. Full neighborhood search. Everyone yelling the dog’s name like the world is ending. Meanwhile, the pooch has been somewhere weirdly wholesome the entire time.
The emotional swing is perfect. First, fear. Then confusion. Then relief, so huge it turns into laughter. The horse nose reveal helps, too, because it gives the whole thing this accidental cinematic quality. It's like the video knows exactly how to pace itself for maximum emotional damage and then maximum sweetness.
And beneath the comedy, there's something genuinely touching about where the dog chose to be. Animals find comfort in all kinds of places, and every now and then, those places come with hooves. This dog was missing, yes, but she was also apparently in good company.
That matters.
Because once everybody has calmed down and your pulse returns to human levels, what you are left with is not just relief. You are left with a story. A lost dog. A horse pen. A reunion with a side plot nobody saw coming.
What To Do First When Your Dog Goes MissingThe AKC says the first hours matter, and the club recommends quickly contacting local animal control, shelters, and humane societies, while providing a current photo and accurate description of your dog. The AKC also recommends reporting the dog missing to your microchip registry right away and using lost-pet alerts if available.
It also helps to search the places your pup already knows and likes before assuming they have gone too far. Familiar routes, barns, neighbors, and other animals can be surprisingly common choices for a missing dog. In this case, the pup wasn't gone-gone. She was just off having an emotionally rich side quest with a horse.

Some tan spots dotted her sweet, bright pink nose. Frankie has pale blue-green eyes with a few gold patches on her left eye, creating a striking color burst. Her short height was all Doxie, and she beautifully represented low riders.
Frankie clearly had a playful and loving personality, which radiated from her gentle expression and wagging tail. Followers fell in love with Frankie, with some commenting on her her buxom physique.
"That is what you call an Alaskan bull worm," one remarked.
"Looks like a rectangle with legs," another pointed out.
"Forget the sausage, she’s the whole ham," a follower posted.
"I’m gonna keep it real — I've never seen a dog like that in my 15 years of living," someone shared.
"She is the cutest loaf of French bread I've ever seen," a fan gushed.
Are 'Bullweenies' Rare?Dachshunds are a popular breed due to their small size and loving personality. While Doxies are often mixed with Chihuahuas or Beagles, the Bullweenie isn't as common.

Blind Cat’s Journey After Being Left Behind Feels Different by the End
At first, it’s hard to watch. Not because anything dramatic is happening—but because you can feel how overwhelmed he is.
A black-and-white cat named Lucky sits tense and unsure, reacting to every sound like it might be something he needs to defend himself from. And when you realize he can’t see what’s around him, it shifts everything. Of course, he’s scared. Of course, he’s reacting this way.
@uncleneilshomeAfter 4 years with the only family he ever knew, Lucky was abandoned by them at the shelter. He is blind, so everything and everyone felt like a threat. • Blind cats rely heavily on sound and scent to understand their environment.
• Sudden noises or unexpected touch can feel threatening.
• New environments are especially overwhelming without visual cues.
• Defensive behavior is a way of protecting themselves.
• With time, routine, and patience, many blind cats become incredibly affectionate.
Once they feel safe, their personalities really start to come through.

Rare Powder Puff Main Coon With 'Ghost Eye' Looks Like 2 Cats in 1
One adorably fluffy kitten is taking the world by storm with his devilishly good looks and gentle, affectionate temperament—but that's not even the best part.
At first glance, this cute kitty is as precious as any other Maine Coon—until he opens his eyes and reveals one really spectacular set of peepers you have to see to believe!
View this post on InstagramThe snow-white, powder puff-colored Maine Coon baby stuns with his two differently colored eyes. One eye is a typical pea green while the other—a "ghost eye"—is almost translucent in its icy blue shade that's truly one magnificent and hypnotizing sight. Like two cats in one, this boy is unmatched!
Fans wasted no time chiming in with praise, and rightfully so. "A picture of pure perfection," as one follower put it, and I couldn't have said it better myself!
If you think this sweet boy's two-toned eyes are stunning, you're in luck because good genes run in this little guy's family. He has some fierce-looking parents that you have to see to believe.

Volkov is a super-rare Maine Coon with TWO "ghost eyes!" He joined the crew in November 2025 and has already stolen the internet's collective heart.
Between his tassel tufts of hair spiking out of his ears (that look straight out of a Pixar movie), his iridescent eyes, and his equally as pretty snow-white fur, it's no surprise his offspring turned out so purrfect.
View this post on Instagram What Causes a 'Ghost Eye' in Cats?An all-white Maine Coon is already considered remarkably rare, making up just 1.5% of the total MC population. But what exactly causes two differently colored eyes?
A cool combination of genetics can cause a condition known as heterochromia, which is one blue eye and one of a different color (usually amber, brown, or green). The white spotting gene (epitasis) keeps melanin from reaching one eye, and the result can be a "ghost eye." Some may even have one eye with varying colors from wherever melanin settles in most.
Only a small percentage of Maine Coons are born all white, with an even smaller number gifted with the unique trait of the most epic cat eyes of all time. However the kitten got his special feature; he sure is one handsome boy, and anyone would be lucky to be in his presence!

A 'One-in-a-Million' Squirrel Was Just Spotted in Connecticut and It Looks Like a Ghost
Squirrels are usually background characters. They are just out there doing squirrel business, causing minor chaos, and acting like they own every park bench in America. So when one suddenly appears looking like a tiny woodland ghost, the whole system changes.
That's exactly what happens in this video from Connecticut.
@nbcconnecticutA viewer sent us this video of a rare white squirrel in Torrington. Have you ever seen one in Connecticut? 🤍🐿️ #squirrels #whitesquirrel #raresighting
♬ original sound - nbcconnecticutAcross the street in a park in Torrington, a White Squirrel appears, and for a second, it doesn't even register as real. It looks too bright, too pale, too strange against the ordinary little park backdrop. The post asks whether anyone in Connecticut has ever seen one before, and honestly, I get why. This is the kind of sighting that makes you immediately text three people and become an amateur wildlife correspondent for the rest of the day.
The internet, naturally, handled it well. One comment says, “No, it's a law in Connecticut. That if you have a white house, you have to have White Squirrels on the lawn.” Incredible. No notes. That's exactly the kind of fake local ordinance I'm willing to believe for at least 5 minutes.
Most of us grow up with one standard squirrel setting in our brains. Brownish-gray, fast, mildly suspicious. So when one turns up looking like it escaped from a snowy fairy tale or got lightly Photoshopped by nature, it breaks the pattern in the best way.
View this post on InstagramAnd yes, people call them “one in a million” for a reason. Not because every one of them is scientifically counted that way, but because seeing one really does feel that rare. This squirrel practically glows. It has that exact uncanny, lovely quality that makes people stop, stare, and immediately start wondering if they have just witnessed something much bigger than a normal park squirrel crossing the grass.
That's why clips like this travel. It's not just an unusual animal. It's a tiny disruption in the everyday, the kind that reminds you nature still has a few surprises left in her pocket. The world feels more interesting when a White Squirrel can just turn up in Connecticut and briefly make everybody feel like they have seen a myth with a tail.
How Rare Are Albino Squirrels?Albino Squirrels are genuinely unusual, though exact numbers are hard to pin down. Wildlife experts note that true albino animals lack melanin and usually have pink or red eyes, which helps distinguish them from leucistic White Squirrels, who keep normal eye color.
View this post on InstagramWhite or Albino Squirrel populations do exist in a few towns, but broadly speaking, they're rare enough that a random sighting still gets people talking. Albinism itself is a rare genetic condition across species, and in the wild, all-white coloration can be a disadvantage because it makes animals more visible.
So no, Connecticut is not secretly full of ghost squirrels.
But for one park visitor, it kind of was that day.

Suggestions were pulled out of a fishbowl, and "Chewy" was the first to be revealed. A nickname for the furry Star Wars Wookiee warrior Chewbacca, the resemblance between the fluffy fur baby and Han Solo's faithful companion was undeniable.
Other ideas included Jose Cuervo, Gingerbread Man, Stout, and Big Red for the canine cutie, who seemed open to any feedback.
Followers Offered More OptionsThe majority of followers leaned toward Chewy, while some posted other potential suggestions.
"I think Rusty might be a good name, and he’s adorable," one noted.
"His name should be Taquito," another remarked.
While there's no word yet on a final decision, the precious pooch was voted unanimously adorable.

7 Dog Breeds That Bond Closely With Women, Experts Say
Every dog has the potential to become a lifelong companion, forming bonds that extend beyond just one person to an entire household. However, some dog breeds are especially known for their strong emotional attachment and people-oriented nature, making them stand out for owners—particularly women—who are looking for a deeper, more intuitive connection with their pet.
While training, environment, and care all play a major role in shaping a dog’s behavior, certain breeds are naturally more affectionate and closely bonded with their owners, while others tend to be more independent or protective. Because of this, different dogs may better suit different lifestyles—whether you’re looking for companionship, emotional support, or a loyal presence by your side.
Even though any dog can form a strong bond regardless of gender, some breeds are especially known for their emotional sensitivity and devotion, which many owners find particularly rewarding. Here are the 7 dog breeds known for forming some of the strongest bonds with women—some may even surprise you.

What Makes Certain Dogs More Attached to Women? Dogs who feel connected and bonded to a female they met.Dogs connect with people based on a combination of personality, socialization, routine and early life experiences. Animal behavior experts say some dogs may feel more comfortable around women due to differences in voice tone, body language, and everyday interaction style. In many households, women are also more often involved in daily caregiving tasks such as feeding, walking, grooming, and training, which can naturally strengthen attachment over time.
Certain dog breeds are especially sensitive to human emotions and tend to have closer relationships with the person they view as the most consistent and calming presence in the home. Dogs originally bred for companionship or close human interaction are often more likely to develop strong loyalty toward a single person. While every dog is unique, experts say that environment, routine, and human behavior play a major role in shaping these close emotional connections.

“This is an intelligent breed and dogs that are good with women, especially who enjoy the outdoors and love going on walks and hikes,” Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel says. “You can build a strong bond through training, learning new commands, and spending consistent time together.”

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a long history as a companion breed, originally developed specifically for close human companionship. Known for their gentle nature, these dogs are affectionate, curious, and notably calm compared to many other small breeds.
“Bred over centuries to be the ultimate companion dog, these sweethearts are bright, affectionate, and curious without being intense or high-strung,” says Liza Cahn, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. This breed is especially known for forming exceptionally close attachments and enjoys frequent physical affection, making bonding a natural part of daily life.
Their gentle temperament and eager-to-please personality also make them highly responsive to their owner’s emotions. According to Cahn, their small size and social nature make them easy to manage and well-suited for female owners who enjoy both companionship and interaction with others.
Breed Stats- Personality: Affectionate, gentle, graceful
- Height: 12-13 inches
- Weight: 13-18 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–15 years
Rottweilers may have an intimidating appearance, but they are often deeply affectionate with their families and capable of forming strong emotional bonds with their owners. Despite their imposing look, they are known to be loving, devoted and highly devoted dogs.
“They are known to be affectionate, despite their imposing looks,” Warner says. In addition to their loyalty, Rottweilers are intelligent, brave, and naturally protective, which can make them a reassuring presence in the home for owners seeking both companionship and a sense of security.
This protective nature can make the Rottweiler an especially steady and dependable companion for women looking for a dog that offers both emotional connection and confidence at home.
Warner notes that early, consistent, positive training is essential for this breed. “Those who can commit to positive training from puppyhood can do well with a Rottweiler,” she says. With proper socialization, they can be calm, responsive, and deeply devoted companions—often described as a steady, people-focused breed for experienced owners.
Breed Stats- Personality: Loyal, loving, confident guardian
- Height: 22-27 inches
- Weight: 80-135 pounds
- Lifespan: 9-10 years
The Australian Shepherd is smart and enthusiastic, making this breed bond with women who want an outdoorsy companion. “Known to be people-oriented, Australian Shepherds are also ideal outdoor partners,” Warner says. “Intelligent and energetic, they would gladly go with their owners on training and walks.” While not traditional guard dogs, they do have natural protective instincts and tend to stay closely attuned to their humans.
Because of their trainability and eagerness to please, Australian Shepherds often form especially strong bonds through structured activities like training, hiking, and agility work. Warner notes that consistent mental stimulation is essential: “Just be sure to provide enough mental stimulation to avoid unwanted behaviors.”
Breed Stats- Personality: Smart, work-oriented, exuberant
- Height: 18-23 inches
- Weight: 40-65 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–15 years
Many Labrador Retrievers are naturally affectionate dogs that seem to thrive on human connection, making them especially popular with owners—particularly women—who are looking for a loyal, close companion. Known for their emotional intelligence and friendly nature, they are often described as one of the easiest breeds to bond with. Warner describes them as “sociable and affectionate,” noting that they remain one of the most popular companion breeds for good reason.
“They can form lasting bonds with those who provide them exercise and food,” Warner says. Labradors are also highly trainable, which can further strengthen the bond between dog and owner through consistent interaction and positive reinforcement.
However, their high energy levels—especially during puppyhood—mean they do best with active, engaged owners. “Just be ready to match their boundless energy, especially as puppies,” Warner adds.
Breed Stats- Personality: Active, friendly, outgoing
- Height: 21.5-24.5 inches
- Weight: 55-80 pounds
- Lifespan: 11–13 years

If you're looking for a lapdog, consider a Dachshund. With their upbeat attitude, high level of curiosity and affectionate nature, they make great furry friends. “Dachshunds can be a great match for owners looking for a small dog with a big personality,” Cahn says.
Cahn describes this breed as “friendly and playful,” noting that Dachshunds love to be in the mix with whatever their humans are doing. They’re also adaptable to a range of living situations, making the Dachshund a good fit for apartment life, along with living in larger homes. Warner also notes that this breed can often be found right by its owner’s side.
Breed Stats- Personality: Curious, friendly, spunky
- Height: 8-9 inches
- Weight: 16-32 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–16 years
Another female friendly dog breed are Great Danes. While they look intimidating thanks to their large build, this breed has a much softer personality. “Despite their giant size, Great Danes are often gentle and quiet companions, and may appeal to owners looking for a calm, loyal, large-breed dog,” Cahn says. Warner also praises the breed’s gentle nature, which can be a great fit for women.
It’s important to socialize and train your Great Dane well, though. “If not properly socialized, they may be wary or reserved with strangers,” Cahn says. The Great Dane is social and friendly, making this a pup you can take nearly everywhere. This breed enjoys sticking to a schedule, though, making it a good fit for potential owners who like to stick with a routine.
Breed Stats- Personality: Friendly, patient, dependable
- Height: 28-32 inches
- Weight: 110-175 pounds
- Lifespan: 7-10 years
When choosing a dog breed, Warner recommends thinking about your lifestyle and what you can offer in terms of care and TLC. “Their needs should match your lifestyle,” she says. “Time spent together, trust and consistency are secrets to a strong bond with your dog.”

The Most Dangerous State for Dogs in the Heat Revealed
If you’re a dog owner, protecting your pet during extreme heat isn’t optional—it’s essential. Dogs don’t have the same ways humans do to cool down, like air conditioning, cold drinks, or simply escaping the sun. Instead, they rely completely on their owners to help them stay safe when temperatures rise.
However, that risk isn’t the same everywhere. In some parts of the United States, hot climates creates far more dangerous conditions for dogs, especially during long summer heat waves. High temperatures, humidity, and limited relief from the sun can quickly push pets into unsafe territory, which can result in them having a heat stoke or even sadly passing away from the extreme temperatures. Veterinarians say this kind of risk can escalate quickly, making prevention critical—and the findings may surprise many pet owners.
Read on to see what a study analyzing heat-related dangers for pets has identified the number one most dangerous state in the country for dogs due to its hot temperatures. Plus, find out what vets say pet parents can do to help keep their dogs cool this summer. Ultimately, protecting your furry companion from the heat comes down to awareness and planning. By understanding how heat affects pets and taking proactive steps, owners can help their four-legged friends stay safe, comfortable and healthy all summer long.

The Number One Hottest State for Dogs A hot dog drinking water to stay cool in the Texas heat.A recent study by Veterinarians.org ranked Texas as the number one state where heat is most dangerous for dogs. In cities like Austin, temperatures can hit 100 degrees or higher about 15 days a year, and 90 degree days can start as early as late May. That means months of steady, intense heat for both people and their pets.
"We collected a compilation of news and police reports that had occurred across the nation over a five-year period," revealed pet health expert, Lily Velez. "We analyzed heat-related pet deaths that were specifically the result of neglect or abandonment or abuse. Unfortunately, what we found is that Texas topped this ranking with 40 pet deaths over the span of this period (five years), which was actually six times the national average."
She added, "Unfortunately, in extreme heat conditions, especially when we’re talking about days when it’s over 90°, that air temperature can rise rapidly. If the dog doesn’t have ample shade or if it doesn’t have ample water, that’s a dangerous condition for the animal to be in."
The Top Hottest States for DogsTexas isn't the only dangerous state for dogs when it comes to heat. Dr. Bethany Hsia, veterinarian and co-founder of CodaPet, is no stranger to pets and hot weather. Based out of Fresno, CA for a decade, she learned firsthand how dangerous prolonged heat can be for animals, both as a pet owner and veterinary professional.
What are the worst states for dogs in summer? She says aside from Texas, the four other hottest state for dogs to live in include states in the southern United States and western United States. “Beyond Texas, four states with high heat risks include Arizona, Nevada, Florida and parts of California,” Hsia explains. “In Arizona and Nevada, the primary danger is extreme ambient air temperature and hot pavement that can burn paw pads. In Florida, high humidity significantly hinders a dog's ability to cool itself through evaporation.”
That combination of heat and humidity is what makes certain regions especially dangerous. The temperature itself is a main concern in dry climates, while humid areas can lead to dogs struggling to release heat effectively, raising their internal temperature at a rapid rate. Hsia adds that California presents its own challenges depending on the region. The Central Valley, Inland Empire and desert areas experience prolonged heat wave periods that place dogs at severe risk for heat-related illness.
Even in states that aren’t typically thought of as extreme, short bursts of high heat can still pose a threat. A sudden spike in temperature, especially early in the season before dogs have acclimated, can increase the chances of overheating.
How Dogs Regulate Body TemperatureUnlike humans, dogs don’t sweat across most of their bodies. They only have sweat glands on the bottoms of their feet, which means they rely heavily on panting to cool down. “Animals cool themselves through evaporative means when they pant,” explains Mathieu Glassman, veterinary surgeon and founder and CEO at Dr. Cuddles. “In more humid areas, animals don't get as much evaporation of their saliva cooling their mouths and tongue, so they can overheat faster.”
When the air is already hot or saturated with moisture, panting becomes less effective. “While a human’s normal body temperature is approximately 98.6 degrees, a dog’s average temperature is higher, typically 101.5 degrees,” Hsia adds. “In high humidity climates, a dog’s internal temperature can rapidly climb to 105 degrees, especially in short-nosed breeds.”
Short-nosed or brachycephalic breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs are vulnerable because their airway structure makes it harder for them to pant efficiently. This can quickly lead to heatstroke, which is a medical emergency that can cause organ failure, internal bleeding and even death.
Thyagaria Penthahalli, a veterinarian with TelaVets.com, explains how quickly things can escalate. “Extreme heat can become dangerous in a short amount of time, especially for puppies, senior dogs, overweight pets and thick-coated breeds,” he says.
Warning Signs of Heatstroke in DogsHeatstroke is one of the most serious risks dogs face in hot weather, but Hsia says early warning signs are often clear if you know what to look for, which can help dog owners act quickly. “Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, bright red gums, lethargy and physical collapse,” she explains. Some dogs might also drool excessively, vomit or appear disoriented.
As the condition worsens, symptoms can quickly become severe, including difficulty breathing, seizures or loss of consciousness. “If a dog overheats, owners should immediately move their dog to a cooler area, offer water and apply cool water to paws before seeking emergency veterinary care,” Hsia says. It’s important to avoid using ice water or very cold baths, which can cause shock or constrict blood vessels and make it harder for the body to cool down properly.
How to Keep Dogs Cool When It’s HotThe good news is that many cases of heat-related illness are preventable by taking a few simple precautions. So, what are some of the best ways to help dogs stay cool and safe during heatwaves? Hsia says to avoid exercise during peak heat hours, typically midday through late afternoon. "Owners should prioritize early morning or late evening walks and utilize cooling mats or vests to assist in managing their dog’s temperature,” she suggests.
She reveals that surfaces like asphalt and concrete can also become dangerously hot when walking your dog, so it’s a good idea to test pavement with your hand before heading out. If it’s too hot for you to touch comfortably, it’s definitely too hot for your dog’s paws. You may even want to invest in dog shoes to protect their paws.
She also notes that dogs should always have access to fresh water and shade when outdoors. A collapsible water bowl can help your dog stay hydrated on the go, while cooling mats, vests or even a damp towel can also help cool your dog down, especially during heat waves or in regions with prolonged high temperatures.
Glassman points out one more dangerous situation is when people don't think it's super hot outside, so they leave their car windows up when their pet is inside. “In this situation, a pet owner may feel like the weather is great, and are more likely to not leave a window down in the car, or feel like five minutes in a closed car isn’t a long time,” he says.
Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise rapidly within minutes. When outside air is cool but the sun is intense, a car acts like a greenhouse. “That’s a recipe for disaster, as it allows owners to stretch a lapse in judgement into a life-threatening situation,” Glassman adds.

Part of being a pet parent is constantly keeping your furry friend away from things they shouldn’t have. Whether it’s hopping onto furniture they’re not allowed on or trying to sneak a bite of food they shouldn’t eat, every day seems to bring a new chance turn a bad habit into a training opportunity.
Sometimes, however, our little ones know just how to turn on the cuteness overload when they’ve been up to no good. Such is the case for a certain orange cat named Ron, who recently went viral after being caught stealing French fries from his parents. On one hand, you can’t just let the little one get away with his crime, but on the other, how could you punish such a precious little creature?

Orange Boy Ron Risks It All for a French Fryhttps://www.youtube.com/shorts/zgPL2pWt8rM
In a YouTube video that has since amassed nearly 10,000 likes, an orange cat named Ron can be seen held on his back by his dad. The clip opens with his dad calling Ron “10 pounds of meat muscle imported straight from Bad Town,” before asking, “what did you just do,” and then adding, “oh that’s right, you don’t have to remind me, you stole a French fry!”
The video then cuts to a flashback of Ron sneaking two fries straight out of a McDonald’s bag as his dad screams, “RON!”
Cutting back to Ron in his dad’s hands, he’s told just how much “time in jail” he’s about to spend, to which his mom interjects: “but not really because the fries were SO good.”
“Well I hope it’s worth the rest of your little life behind bars,” Ron’s dad continues, squishing Ron into a fluffy ball while holding him down in a cuddle.
“He’ll never get punished for real,” his mom responds, before dad jumps in again: “you will get punished…for REAL,” he jokes. “Because you don’t care about the rules of this household.”
The video then flashes back to Ron sneaking a lick from an open ranch cup, a detail that sent the comment section into a frenzy.

“He got licks of ranch too?! Lock him up,” one viewer laughed. “Who are you kidding? There’s not a jury under the sun that’ll convict him,” another chimed in.
“He’s a smooth criminal,” another fan added, with one more joking, "That orange menace has you wrapped around his little paw."
As the video closes out, Ron's dad lays down the law, saying: “Here is your punishment for being so bad and stealing my French fries,” before landing a big fat smooch on Ron’s face.
Is It OK for Cats to Eat French Fries? It’s no secret that cats are curious by nature, which often results in an interest in whatever their humans are eating. And while a single French fry isn’t considered toxic, vets generally recommend avoiding making it a regular part of your cat’s diet. For starters, fries are high in salt and fat and offer no nutritional value for cats. They’re also likely to cause an upset stomach, making them more of a risk than a safe treat.
In most cases, a quick stolen bite like Ron’s won’t cause any immediate harm, but it’s still best to keep fries and other fast food out of reach. It might go without saying, but cats don’t benefit from human junk food in any way, so their curiosity is much better redirected toward treats made specifically for them. In the end, a healthy cat is the best option, and it’s better if we stay consistent with their meals to avoid any health issues down the line.
Tiny Teacup Pomeranian Looks Like the World's Fluffiest Kitten
Pomeranians are coveted for their spunky, lively personalities and portable, pint-sized frames, but imagine if these cuties shrunk to fit in the palm of your hand. I would probably die from the cuteness overload!
One tiny "Teacup" Pom named Star is about to put that theory to the test. With her impressive amount of fluff that's more than any puppy can handle, she's already got my vote—but there's more, and it has to do with her impossibly tiny size.
View this post on InstagramIn the world of small dog breeds, who look like mini teddy bears or kittens, many of these tiny tots are worthy of any "Cutest Puppy Ever" awards, but only a select few check all the boxes the way Star does.
Being a fraction of a typical Pomeranian's size means the cuteness overload factor is off the charts! She's too cute to be real, but she is, in fact, real and looking for a forever home. So, how much would a pretty princess like Star go for?

You might want to take a seat and a few deep breaths for this one.
The 12-week-old girly girl is one of the many pups via Fou Fou's Puppies, and she costs a whopping $6,800 (and is worth every penny)! Unless you've got the extra cash like I don't, Star would make the best itty-bitty companion to any family who's looking for a kitten-looking Pomeranian!
View this post on Instagram How Big Do Teacup Pomeranians Get?Though the "Teacup" category doesn't technically exist when it comes to little Pomeranians, these itty-bitty versions of an already small dog breed are born weighing less than a pound at birth and come in at an adorable 2 to 5 pounds and just 6 to 10 inches tall at the shoulder as adults.
It's common for these tiny tykes to level out by 12 months of age at around 3 pounds as full-grown pups, which is way too cute! Standard Poms can weigh up to about 7 pounds and can be slightly taller, but put them next to a miniature version like Star, and they look huge!
I can't even imagine what a dog that small would look like sprinting through the house, and for Star's fee, I guess I'll never know, so I'll live vicariously!

Persian Cat Getting a Bath Sounds Like a Warbly Ghost and People Can’t Handle It
There are dramatic cats, and then there are Persian cats who react to a bath like they’ve just been informed the castle is under siege. One fluffy internet diva is currently going viral for producing the strangest, wobbliest little cry anyone has ever heard during bath time, and honestly? It sounds less like a meow and more like a haunted accordion trying to communicate from another dimension.
The tiny vocal performance has people comparing the kitty to everything from opera singers to video game ghosts, and once you hear it, you truly cannot unhear it.

The fluffy Persian lets out this long, warbly, shaky cry that sounds exactly like one of those floating ghosts from old Nintendo games. Not scary. Just deeply inconvenienced and emotionally theatrical. Honestly, the cat sounds like she’s haunting a Victorian mansion because someone served lukewarm soup.
People in the Comments Were Immediately Obsessed With the Bizarre Vocal Performance“Why is she meowing in vibrato?” one person asked.
Another wrote, “That’s the ‘Oh the agony’ meow.”
“Kitty sounds like the '90s Halloween shaking ghost,” someone else commented, which is painfully accurate if you grew up wandering through Spirit Halloween displays pressing every motion sensor button at once.
Others thought the cat sounded surprisingly musical.
“She is singing opera,” one viewer joked.
Another added, “Sounds like Luigi’s Mansion.”
And honestly? That one wins. The second the cat opened her mouth, I could practically hear coins scattering across a haunted hallway.
Persian cats are known for being expressive, sensitive little fluff clouds, and many really do dislike baths because of their dense coats and preference for staying clean on their own terms. Still, this particular reaction feels less like annoyance and more like a full theatrical monologue delivered by a ghost trapped inside an antique radio.
Meanwhile, my Maine Coon, Meatball, screams during grooming, too, but in a much less sophisticated way. Meatball sounds like a man yelling because the waiter forgot ranch dressing. This cat sounds like she’s performing a phantom opera in candlelight.

♬ original sound - Beauty and the BeanCats can make wildly different vocal sounds depending on breed, facial structure, personality, and even stress levels. Persian cats, especially, can have softer, raspier, or more unusual-sounding meows because of their flat faces and shortened airways.
Some kitties chirp. Some squeak. Some sound like tiny old men who are disappointed in your life choices. And apparently, some sound exactly like haunted Nintendo ghosts during bath time.
Either way, this Persian cat may have delivered the most dramatic bath protest of 2026 so far.

Street Dog Who 'Never Knew Kindness' Transforms Into 'Silliest' Fur Baby
Niall Harbison shares stories of the many street dogs he saves and rehabilitates through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. He recently posted an update on Anthony, a dog who was homeless for most of his life and too afraid to let anyone near him. After spending time with Harbison and his dedicated team, Anthony now has a totally new leash on life.
View this post on InstagramThe Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo opened with Anthony staring at the camera with a happy expression on his face and wagging his tail, yet this wasn't always the precious pooch's disposition.
"He spent his entire life on the street and had never known kindness," the onscreen text explained as previous clips of Anthony showed him fearfully snarling at anyone who approached him.
After all the trauma Anthony had experienced in his life, his reactions were out of self-defense. Thanks to the love and compassion from Harbison and the Happy Doggo team, Anthony started to slowly let his guard down.
"It took time, patience, and a lot of love to show him he was finally safe," the story continued as Anthony snuggled with a staff member.
Anthony Is a Retirement Village ResidentHarbison recently created the Golden Ticket Retirement Village, where senior street dogs can live out the rest of their days in comfort and style. They have shelter, cozy beds, medical care, nutritious food, and lots of furry friends to play with. Anthony is now one of the happy residents.
"Now he's the king of our retirement village, who loves to sing us a song every morning," the text noted, with scenes of Anthony playing and joyfully welcoming Happy Doggo team members.
As soon as Anthony felt safe and was no longer suffering, he was able to trust again.
"Once we fixed his pain, his real personality finally came out, and he’s officially the loudest (and silliest) resident in our retirement village," the caption shared, with the video concluding, "Proof that it's never too late for a new beginning."

A Duck Chose This Dachshund as Her Best Friend and Their 'TV Time' Might Break the Internet
The setup sounds fake.
A Dachshund.
A duck.
A dog bed.
A blanket.
An iPad.
And yet, here we are.
In the video, these two best friends are tucked into a little bed together like they have just finished a long day of errands and need to catch up on their shows. The Dachshund is settled in. The duck is right there beside him, completely at ease, looking so smitten it almost feels rude to watch without knocking first. The post caption says simply, “They are best friends,” and honestly, what else do you even need? That's the whole story. That's the headline, the plot, and the emotional damage all in one.
View this post on InstagramThis clip isn't a one-off stunt. It feels lived in. Familiar. The kind of weird little household dynamic that only happens after two animals have fully decided this arrangement makes sense and nobody is going to talk them out of it. One comment says, “I love that she watches TV,” which is funny because yes, the duck really does seem invested. Not wandering off. Not confused. Just fully seated for programming with her long, low best friend like this is part of the nightly routine.
And maybe it is.
The video isn't just “look, different animals.” It's “look, they have a shared vibe.” A duck and a Dachshund should already be enough to get people clicking. Put them under a blanket with a screen, and suddenly you have the kind of content that makes people text friends at irresponsible hours with no context except, “This cannot be real.”
The best part is how calm it all is. No chaos. No scrambling. Just one tiny dog and one very devoted duck doing what looks suspiciously like a proper little evening together. It has the same energy as a couple who's been together for years, and now each person communicates mostly through snacks and comfortable silence.
See more of the dynamic duo here.
There's something genuinely sweet about the duck’s body language here. She doesn't look random. She looks attached. Like she has chosen her person, except her person is apparently a Dachshund in a blanket fort with access to streaming.
That's a powerful choice.
And a deeply relatable one.
Why Animals Form Bonds That Defy NatureCross-species friendships look unusual to us, but a lot of animal bonding comes down to exposure, personality, safety, and repeated positive experiences, not some rigid “this species must only like that species.” Best Friends notes that introductions between different animals need to be gradual and supervised because each animal is an individual, and calm, safe repetition matters more than assumptions.
That's why bonds like this can happen. When animals feel secure, have space, and keep having good experiences with each other, they can build routines and attachments that seem impossible from the outside. It's less “defying nature” and more nature being more flexible than we give it credit for.
Some friendships are built on common interests. These two apparently built theirs on television and mutual emotional support.

Some dogs finish dinner so fast it barely feels real. The moment you drop the meal in, they gulp it down in a few seconds. The bowl is empty by the time you turn your head.
It might look cute to film your dog gobbling on its meal, but eating fast increases the risk of bloating. The good news is that there are ways to prevent fast eating, including snuffle mats and kibble dispensers.

Wayfair shoppers praise the Pet Parents Forager Dog Snuffle Mat, with one customer sharing, "I tried using slow-feeder bowls as a way to get my pups to eat without inhaling their food. But the Forager Mat has turned out to be the perfect solution."
Big Dogs Love It, TooSome enrichment toys work great for tiny dogs and then immediately fall apart when a large breed gets involved. But here, that is not the case. One Great Dane parent wrote, "I have a Great Dane so, mats for him were hard to find. This one is perfect!! Even for his large kibble. Really a must purchase to keep them occupied and entertained. They will LOVE it!"
So, instead of hearing your dog vacuum up dinner in 12 chaotic seconds, you can get them a snuffle mat and enjoy 10 to 15 minutes of quiet time.
A good enrichment toy doesn't just keep dogs busy. It gives them something to do that actually feels good.
