Cats have a way of making the simplest moments feel oddly adorable, but one rescue Orange Cat is taking things to another level. A paralyzed cat named Ryder has gone viral for the incredibly polite way he waits for his bath.

Instead of squirming or trying to escape like most kitties would, Ryder calmly sits on the edge of the bathroom sink with his paws crossed like a tiny gentleman waiting for his spa treatment. He's so distinguished!

The sweet video was shared by @lowryderkitty, showing Ryder carefully perched on the edge of the sink, while he patiently waits for his foot bath.

The caption explains the moment perfectly.

Ryder sits upright with his back paws crossed, occasionally tilting his head as if he is politely asking when the service will begin.

Ryder’s story makes his sweet personality even more remarkable. Before landing in his current home, Ryder was found abandoned in a bag in Connecticut. Because of his paralyzed back legs, no one initially wanted to adopt him.

He spent several days in a veterinary emergency hospital, where a team worked to save his life. Despite the challenges he faces, Ryder has adapted in incredible ways. He moves around by dragging his back legs and uses his strong front legs to help him get where he needs to go.

He even climbs the stairs to get into bed using only his front legs.

Ryder also needs help using the litter box, but his determination and personality have made him a truly special member of his family.

His mom describes him best.

“Ryder is an amazing boy, and we are so lucky to be inspired by him every day.”

And judging by the way he calmly waits for his little sink bath like a perfect gentleman, it is easy to see why so many people have fallen in love with him.

In the TikTok from @teddysdogs, the precious Pug explored the daycare by dragging her back legs. She mingled a bit with the other dogs, though she couldn't run with the pack due to her disability. But the daycare had something to give her a boost.

"We had a disabled dog join us at daycare, so we did this for her," the onscreent text announced.

The video featured the daycare owner assembling a special doggy wheelchair and placing the Pug in it for a spin. The fur baby stood still for a few minutes, trying to get her bearings in the unfamiliar contraption. But then something kicked in and the peppy Pug was off like a shot, running around on the grassy field with her pooch playmates. She quickly took to the chair like a duck to water.

Nothing could slow down the daring dog as she darted in between her fellow fur babies on the field, who probably had a hard time keeping up with her. She had a new spring in her step and completely embraced her new set of wheels.

Freewheeling Pug Stole Hearts

Followers fell in love with the Pug's transformation and unbridled joy over her special gift.

"The way she sprinted off has me giggling... GO SWEET BABY GO!!" one cheered.

"As a wheelie Pug owner, this is so lovely to see," another remarked.

Taking the time for quality interaction and canine enrichment doesn't just improve dog behavior, it fundamentally alters their physiology. This dedicated time lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol and increases levels of the love hormone oxytocin for both of you, Stynchula points out. Ultimately, focusing on your dog’s mental well-being through consistent positive reinforcement and companionship ensures a healthier, happier life for both ends of the leash.

Expert-Approved Activities for Canine Enrichment and Bonding

What you do during your dedicated time depends entirely on your dog's unique personality and breed-specific needs. “There is a large movement in the dog training community to honor the genetic predisposition of dogs to certain activities and find ways to fulfill that,” Stynchula says. 

For example, Australian Shepherds may prefer something physical that involves herding or agility, while a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel may be thrilled to play a short game of fetch around your yard, followed by cuddle time on the couch. You can even look into bigger activities you and your pooch can do together, like agility training classes, or simply set up obstacles in your yard or local park for your dog to do.

However, you don’t need to make massive gestures to have a big impact on your dog’s mental health. At a bare minimum, practicing mindful pet ownership is key. “At a bare minimum, be present with your dog,” Stynchula says. "That includes leaving your phone in your pocket so that you can fully concentrate on your pooch. Make eye contact and enjoy the time you have and let them be a dog and sniff and chew on a stick in a park.”

Above all, just try to set aside dedicated time for your dog each day. Even a few minutes of focused interaction can drastically improve your dog’s happiness and strengthen your lifelong bond. “Your dogs is so happy to just have your attention,” Stynchula says.

"Dogs remember their owners," confirms Mark Spivak, CPT, of  Comprehensive Pet Therapy, Inc. Spivak says dogs use their eyes, ears and noses to determine that, yes, you are their favorite human—and you have returned. Spivak has seen this up close, having co-authored more than 15 pet neuroscientific studies.

One study conducted by the Emory Canine Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory examined dogs' brains using MRIs. It found that dogs have a special region of the brain that helps them process people's faces and respond more strongly to scents of familiar humans. He also points to a study by Hungarian researchers that suggested that dogs can recognize voices as well. This is not only heartwarming, but it says a lot about the human-canine bond. Do Dogs Have Long-Term Memory?

While humans rely on narrative memories, research shows that dogs possess a sophisticated form of associative and episodic-like memory. This means they don't just remember "where" the treats are, they remember the specific emotions and scents associated with your last reunion. According to pet researchers, these long-term bonds are anchored by the olfactory system, allowing a dog to recognize and "remember" their favorite person even after years of separation.

You're going to notice a common theme in Spivak's five signs your dog remembers you even after time apart: They're positive. That's by design. "Dogs often become excited by transitions," he says. "Also, dogs are pack animals that prefer solidarity and consistency in their animal-human pack."

In other words, they value being close to their favorite people and connections. Of course, not all dogs will display each one of these signs that they remember you. Spivak says age, energy level, your previous relationship and comfort level with solo time can all factor in. Still, these behaviors are common in dogs when they're reunited with you.

1. You get the most joyful greeting

If you've spent any time online over the last 20+ years, you've likely come across a video of a dog reuniting with their humans returning from military service. These emotional canine reunions are more than just cute videos, they are a clear sign your dog remembers you and has maintained a deep attachment bond, regardless of the time apart. Spivak says this dog greeting behavior, including vigorous tail wagging and frantic running, is a primary indicator of long-term recognition.

"Jumping is a common dog body language signal in younger or untrained pups," Spivak states. "Yet, because dogs rely on scent recognition and vocal cues to identify their favorite people, even a mature, trained dog may impulsively jump after an owner returns from an extended absence."

2. They sniff you...intensely

Spivak shares that intense sniffing is a primary sign your dog remembers you even after significant time apart. This behavior is rooted in canine olfaction, where a dog uses their powerful sense of smell to re-establish a familiar connection.

"Dogs rarely sniff human or animal housemates when everyone has remained home," Spivak says. "However, when an owner has been away for a lengthy period, sniffing provides vital information. It allows the dog to process scent memory, confirming where the person has been and reinforcing their long-term recognition of that individual."

3. They're very vocal

According to Spivak, a dog’s voice is one of their most powerful tools for expressing long-term recognition. He notes that during a long-awaited canine reunion, many dogs become incredibly vocal, using whines, barks, or whimpers as a clear sign they remember you. This "happy crying" is a physiological response to the release of oxytocin when a dog identifies a familiar loved one.

High-pitched barks are especially common vocal cues in dogs who were already vocal before the separation. This auditory recognition confirms that the dog hasn't just remembered your face, but has maintained a deep emotional attachment to your presence and your specific voice.

4. They follow you everywhere

One of the most heartwarming signs your dog remembers you after a long separation is their refusal to let you out of their sight. This "shadowing" behavior is a clear indicator of long-term recognition and the re-establishment of your unique attachment bond. "After an owner returns from a lengthy absence, it is common for dogs to follow owners around the house, including from room to room or alongside a bathroom door or shower stall," Spivak says.

Spivak notes that this persistent following is a psychological response to the canine reunion, as the dog seeks to reinforce their sense of security and proximity to their favorite person. Dogs who previously experienced separation anxiety or shared an especially close bond are the most likely to "play shadow." This behavior serves as a functional sign your dog never forgets you, as they use their physical presence to confirm that the familiar person they’ve missed is finally home.

5. They're so playful

A sudden burst of energy and a desire for games is also a classic sign your dog remembers you. This behavior, known as play solicitation, is a dog's way of re-establishing their favorite social rituals and confirming that your attachment bond is still intact. When a dog immediately presents you with a toy, they are demonstrating long-term recognition of the specific activities you used to share.

"This common dog behavior can occurr when an owner returns from an extended absence," Spivak says. "Dogs may bring you a tug toy and then bump their owner to solicit interactive play. Dogs may also bring owners a ball, drop the ball in front of them and then bark or paw until the owner throws the ball."

How Long Does This Behavior Last?

The signs your dog remembers you even after time apart can make you feel loved. But it can get intense if your dog's greetings are consistently off-the-charts. Yet, there's no timetable for a dog to go back to their baseline after your reunion. "The time for a dog to return to 'normal' will vary, principally based upon the dog's temperament," Spivak says.

Spivak notes that highly anxious dogs may stay extra clingy or act nervously that you'll leave again for a long time. "However, most dogs will move beyond the transitional period and settle into a normal routine and normal behavior within several minutes or hours," Spivak shares.

Her mom also took her on a birthday shopping spree that included a new hot dog toy, a mascara toy, bones, and of course, a new sweater in deer print (very chic this season).

The French Bulldog says, "wee, wee" to another year as America's favorite dog breed. Our love for the adorable squishy-faced furballs has not waned in the 4 years since the small breed took over the top spot from the beloved, family-friendly Labrador Retriever.

However, the American Kennel Club's top dog list did see a surprising shake-up in the top five with a long-time favorite dropping from fifth position for the first time in four years. French Bulldog is Still The Most Popular Dog Breed View this post on Instagram

Frenchies have such a sweet, friendly disposition that it makes sense that they remain the most popular dog breed in America for 2025. The AKC compiles the list from year-end registration statistics, announcing it to dog fans early the following year. French Bulldogs took the top spot for the first time in 2022, when they ousted the Labrador Retriever, a pup who had held the spot for 31 years.

“While the French Bulldog is a wonderful companion for many, it is not a ‘one size fits all’ breed,” said Gina M. DiNardo, AKC President and CEO, in a press release. “Popularity does not mean it’s right for everyone." Not all dog owners can deal with the the intricases that come with owning a brachycephalic dog like the Frenchie. But those who choose to overlook the possible challenges love the pups for their big personalities and jovial attitudes.

In second place is the beloved family pup, the Labrador Retriever, followed by the equally lovable Golden Retriever in third. I may be a little biased, but a pretty special dog breed sits once again in the number four slot, the loyal, brilliant, and downright goofy German Shepherd.

However, the fifth slot belongs to the poodle no more. This year, the Dachshund jumps up from number 6, sliding into the fifth spot on the list. DiNardo says this spunky pup is one to watch in the years ahead.

"The breed has hovered in the top 10 most popular breeds for many years, and it’s no surprise that it’s back in the top five. Dachshunds are very intelligent, excellent problem solvers, and adorable," said DiNardo. "As with any breed, we can’t stress enough the importance of doing your research to find the right breed for your lifestyle and to ensure that you’re getting a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder.”

Completing the top 10 is the Beagle and Rottweiler, holding on to 7 and 8 from the previous year, while the German Shorthair Pointer moves up one, taking the Bulldog's spot at number 9 and dropping the breed to the 10th slot.

Flat-faced dogs more often than not suffer from a condition called brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS). This condition is exclusively caused by their short skulls, which can make breathing noisy and difficult. It can also limit exercise, make hot days especially dangerous and reduce their overall quality of life. 

Until recently, most research focused on Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs, but this new study expands the pool to 14 breeds in the UK, including Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas, Boxers and Pekingese.

While noisy breathing is the most commonly recognizable sign of BOAS, the study shows that the condition can also affect a dog’s ability to exercise, sleep and cope with heat or stress. And even though severity varies by breed, extreme cases can lead to collapse or even death.

The Breeds Most Affected

The study looked at 898 dogs across 14 flat-faced breeds in the UK, making it the most comprehensive analysis of BOAS in these breeds to date. Almost all of the dogs showed some level of breathing problem, with Maltese and Pomeranian being the only breeds without serious issues. Notably, older dogs tended to be more affected, but the condition can absolutely appear in dogs of any age. Here’s how the breeds stack up in terms of severity:

Highest risk:

• Pekingese – only 10.9 percent of dogs were free of signs.
• Japanese Chin – only 17.4 percent were unaffected.

Moderate risk:

• Griffon Bruxellois, Boston Terrier, King Charles Spaniel, Dogue de Bordeaux and Shih Tzu all showed a noticeable presence of BOAS, though not as severe as the high-risk breeds.

Lower risk (still very much affected):

• Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Boxer and Affenpinscher all had a higher proportion of dogs with minimal signs, but abnormalities none the less.

Even though Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs are the breeds most people think of when it comes to breathing problems, their exclusion from this study makes it clear that breathing issues are common across most other flat-faced breeds as well. Owners should keep an eye out for the usual signs of distress, no matter the breed.

How to Spot Signs of BOAS

Spotting signs of BOAS early is key to keeping your furry friend healthy for years to come. Keep an eye (and ear) out for the following symptoms, no matter your pup’s age:

• Short, noisy breathing, snoring or wheezing
• Difficulty exercising or tiring quickly
• Trouble sleeping or restless nights
• Overheating easily or panting excessively on warmer days
• Signs of stress in daily life

It should be said that mild signs are totally worth noting, because severity can vary and early detection can make a big difference for your fur baby’s quality of life. That said, if you think your little one is showing signs of BOAS, take a beat, breathe and schedule a vet visit so you can get it diagnosed and stay ahead of the problem rather than behind it.

Both of my dogs know when they've done something wrong and are about to get in trouble. Why Are Eurasiers So Rare?

There are somewhere between 9,000 and 10,000 Eurasiers registered worldwide. While that might seem like a lot, also consider that there are nearly 30,000 new Golden Retriever puppies registered with the AKC every single year! Eurasiers are especially rare in the U.S.

The Eurasier is a relatively new breed, and they don't really serve a specific purpose other than being a companion. They're also from Germany, where breeding regulations are pretty strict.

They're hard to get your hands on, with most reputable breeders legitimately having years-long waiting lists. Instead, a lot of people (particularly in America) end up going with other, similar breeds, like the Chow Chow.

The demand for Eurasiers hasn't really increased outside of Germany and surrounding areas, so outside of specialty breeders, you'll be hard-pressed to find one. I guess we'll just have to keep watching Eros on TikTok!

The adorable video, shared on TikTok by @toriandherbuns, shows incredibly fluffy Angora Bunnies hopping around like living stuffed animals.

Their long, soft coats give them a rounded, plush look that makes their faces almost blend into their fur. Add in those floppy ears, and suddenly their resemblance to Shih-Tzus becomes impossible to ignore.

Elden agrees, calling this breed “highly trainable.”

Poodles are also very tuned in to their people and, as a result, pick up on patterns and routines easily, Elden says. “Given their history as working dogs bred to cooperate closely with humans, they are usually strong learners in a house-training context,” she adds. While Poodles learn quickly, they also tend to embrace new habits. “Once they grasp that going outside means toilet time, they stick to it,” Warner says.

Elden also praises this breed’s bright and social personality. "Many Bostons are people-oriented, which can help with training,” she says. "This breed also tends to well with structure and positive reinforcement, too. So, have those high-value treats ready every time you go outside."

The Maltese is smart and sensitive, which lends well to potty training. “Maltese like being around people,” Warner says. “They learn fast because, similar to Boston Terriers, they like structured environments.”

Once you put a bathroom schedule in place, your Maltese will like to stick to it. "Aim for a schedule that involves going outside after meals, sleep and playtime as Maltese dogs remember things easier that way and will stick to the routine,” Warner says.

This pooch enjoys a tidy home and understands the need to separate the space where you go to the bathroom to where you sleep and eat. “With calm, patient training and a steady routine, Afghan Hounds often learn quickly that outdoor spaces are the appropriate place to go,” Warner says. Just be aware that this breed is high-energy and stubborn at times, so it’s considered best for more experienced dog owners.

"Papillons are very smart and pick up commands and routines easily," notes Warner. That makes it all the more important to set a potty schedule and stick with it to get your Papillon up and running with bathroom breaks. This breed is also known for being attentive to its owners, along with having polite mannerisms. As a result, your Papillon doesn’t want to have an accident any more than you want them to.

"Border Collies have a high drive to work and do best with a job," Humm-Beatty says. "They tend to follow directions easily and enjoy spending time outside, both of which are perfect for potty training. Just be sure to get in plenty of exercise during those potty breaks to keep your energetic pup happy."

"Australian Shepherds are an easy breed to train,” according to Humm-Beatty. The Australian Shepherd enjoys outdoor time, and loves getting in plenty of exercise. This breed also tends to be fairly laidback (after a workout, of course). They have a strong work ethic, too. So, expect your Australian Shepherd to keep working at potty training until they get it right.

“The Shiba Inu is a highly intelligent dog breed that does typically housetrain easily because they do not like to soil their living space,” Humm-Beatty. She just cautions that they can be harder to train outside of bathroom breaks. “They are also known to be more challenging for overall training and need a lot of consistency and positive reinforcement,” Humm-Beatty says.

I have three Boston Terriers, and two of them have pointy ears. Their ears are legitimately bigger than their heads, I'm pretty sure, and it's my favorite thing. Big ears are my weakness when it comes to dogs! Well, that and everything else about them...

Why Do Dogs' Ears Droop Sometimes?

Every dog's ears go into airplane mode occasionally, and they almost always start out that way, too. As puppies, dogs simply don't have the muscles required to hold their ears up, which is what leads to that puppy flop.

Adult dogs with ears that stand up don't leave them that way all the time, though. Their ears might droop, either partially or fully, because:

• They have an ear infection.
• They're tired.
• They're sleeping.
• They're feeling threatened.
• They're in pain.

Drooping without pulling back is typically what happens when dogs are tired or have ear infections, while pulling them back fully is often a sign that they're scared or in pain. Ears are big targets, so pulling them in as close as they can will potentially help keep other animals from grabbing on.

The adorable TikTok video, shared on the account @mikkelthesilken, follows Mikkel settling into his forever home while casually being one of the most visually confusing puppies on the internet.

At first, he is just sitting on a sofa looking polite. Too polite. Suspiciously polite.

Then the clip jumps to him riding in the back seat of a car.

Then he is outside in the snow, running like he just remembered he has legs and they work.

Silken Windhounds are considered a relatively rare dog breed, especially compared to more common sight hounds like Greyhounds or Whippets. The breed was developed in the United States in the late 20th century and is still gaining recognition around the world.

They are known for their elegant, flowing coats, athletic builds, and gentle, affectionate personalities. Despite their soft appearance, they are typically playful, social, and deeply devoted to their families.

My senior Dachshund was less than thrilled when we brought home our Pug mix. A rescue dog from Puerto Rico, our Puggie was a bundle of boy energy and tried immediately to bond with his older Doxie sister. She wasn't a fan of his antics and flat-out ignored him, hoping he would go away. But before long, his irresistible silliness and charm won her over and now they're inseparable.

In the TikTok from @thedoubleduo, Winnie and Wilson were lying on the couch enjoying some downtime. Winnie stared out the window, purposely facing away from her baby brother.

"POV: Your senior dog refuses to acknowledge the new puppy's existence," the onscreen text read, with the caption adding, "She has chosen to disengage."

Winnie obviously wanted some space and hoped her body language spoke for itself. Her brother didn't get the hint and faced her direction, comfortably curled up nearby.

"Are you refusing to look at him, Winnie?" her mom asked, noticing the senior Golden's avoidant behavior.

Winnie tried repositioning herself to send the message to Wilson a bit more directly and set herself down with her back to the pup.

"Are you just pretending he's not there?" her mom laughed.

Winnie's plan didn't work. Wilson stayed put and continued to gaze at his sister with adoration.

Adopting a Puppy When You Have a Senior Dog

Older dogs can be set in their ways and prefer more sedentary activities rather than high-energy playing. If you're considering adding a puppy to your family and you have a senior canine, some factors can make the adjustment easier for your elder pooch:
