Still, you can do your best to take on that role for your dog by being there for them, whether it’s watching out for your dog when the vacuum is on and they are feeling scared or being ready with a gentle pat when thunderstorms roll in. Those tiny acts of love and comfort mean more to your pup than you know. So, how can you know if your efforts are being recognized? Over time, these are the biggest signs you'll notice that mean your dog sees you as their guardian angel, according to pet experts.

Every dog is different, but pups tend to share certain behaviors when it comes to viewing their owner as someone who can shield them from danger and keep them safe and out of harms way. After all, seeing how your furbaby always has your back, you want to reassure them that you’ve always got their back as well. Experts say to be on the lookout for these cues to see if your dog depends on you to protect them.

1. They shadow you

Why does your dog follow you? That’s a sign they look to you to keep them safe. In fact, it's one way you can tell your dog sees you as their protector. “There’s no better way to keep an eye on something you love than by never letting it out of your sight, which may be what your dog is doing when they follow you around constantly,” Bonk says. “They want to keep track of where you are, what you’re doing, and who you’re doing it with.”

2. They’re glued to you in bed

Animals and humans are the most vulnerable when they’re asleep, Bonk points out. “Sleeping in groups is a way of protecting each member,” she says. When your dog is nestled up to you in bed, they may feel that you’re watching over them while they sleep. “Dogs form packs as a way of sharing the load of hunting as well as protection, so sleeping with you is a way of showing you that you’re part of their pack,” Bonk explains.

3. They support you while you're doing tasks

This seemingly simple behavior is a clear sign that your dog trusts you completely and views you as their guardian angel and protector. As Bonk says, "dogs that look up to you will often be there to support you when you’re doing things like bringing in groceries or making dinner." They understand you are busy, and by staying close during tasks, they are demonstrating their loyalty and availability. By "helping," even in small ways, your dog is ensuring their place by your side and communicating that they are ready to offer support and companionship to the human they feel safest with.

4. They react to your emotions

Dogs are sensitive animals, with Bonk noting that they have the emotional intelligence of a two-year-old child. “That means they are able to read body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice to determine how you are feeling and are able to respond appropriately to those feelings,” she says. “However, this intelligence can take time to develop with each individual, so spending time with you will help increase that intelligence and therefore your bond.”

When your dog reacts to your emotions, they’re not just noticing them, it shows you matter to them. In their eyes, you’re their safe place. Just like a child looks to a parent for comfort, your dog is tuned in to you because they trust you completely. This is one of the strongest signs your dog trusts you and feels secure by your side. In a pack, everything is shared, from food to shelter and other resources, Bonk points out. While your pup is unlikely to be willing to share their kibble with you, Bonk says they’ll likely be willing to bring you a favorite toy as a sweet gesture for all that protection you provide. 

If your dog is willing to share something they love, it means they feel safe and secure with you. They don’t feel the need to guard it. Instead, they include you. This is a powerful sign your dog sees you as part of their inner circle—and even as their protector. In their mind, you’re someone who provides safety, comfort, and care, which is why they’re happy to give something back.

6. They look to you when they’re uncertain

As a pet parent, part of your guardian angel job description is to provide emotional and physical protection when scary situations crop up. That can mean your pup will give you a quick glance when they’re unsure in any given moment, or even lean against you for support, says Erin Askeland, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, Camp Bow Wow's animal health and behavior expert. When your dog looks to you in uncertain moments, they’re relying on you to help them understand the world. It’s similar to how a child looks to a parent for reassurance.

This shows your dog believes you’ll keep them safe and make the right decisions. It’s a powerful sign your dog sees you not just as a companion, but as their protector—and someone they can trust in any situation. If you stay calm, they feel safer. 7. They have a special welcome home dance for you

That little butt wiggle or happy dance your dog does while greeting you when you get home is no accident. "Your pooch is celebrating the arrival of their guardian human," Askeland says. "This is also a sign that they think your presence is meaningful."

When Playtime Goes Off the Rails

While exactly how the dog got off leash and ended up roaming the mall isn’t explained in the video, what is clear is the laughter in the background and just how entertaining the scene must have been to watch. The video begins with a black dog running into frame with a green toy in its mouth, immediately sidestepping a mall employee before darting around the open area and weaving around product stands, benches and various shoppers. 

As the pup shows off its prize, shoppers only half-heartedly try to catch it and retrieve the toy, making the scene even funnier as it trots around the area. And while the video ends without revealing whether the pup was ever caught, we’d like to assume the good boy or girl was forgiven for skipping the checkout and got to bring the toy home after all the excitement.

“The cutest thief,” u/Wonderful-Fli-104 wrote in the caption of their post. “Awww I would let him have it,” one viewer responded. “It was a diversion,” another joked, “The cash register is empty now.”

Others echoed the sentiment, with some offering to pay for the toy and others cheering on the dog’s escape. “They need to alter their strategy,” one person said. “Chasing a dog is the best possible way to get them to run away from you!” To which another replied, “Oh you want to play tag?!?!”

Why Dogs Love a Good Game of Chase

If you have indoor cats and feel inspired, you can take your kitties outside to explore, too—but there are some things to keep in mind so all goes smoothly.

First, slowly introduce them to wearing a secure harness (with a snug fit to prevent escape) and leash, practicing inside so they get used to the feeling. Don't force things too quickly; instead, practicing 5 to 10 minutes in supervised sessions in a quiet place can go a long way. Is Cheese Safe for Dogs To Eat?

We can easily tell that Rosie loves shredded cheese so much that she will try to catch some when it's tossed up in the air outside, which is so cute. And it's a good snack for her, too, according to experts. 

The American Kennel Club shares that cheese is safe for dogs to eat, and it's actually a great snack to use when you're trying to teach your pup new tricks. The club explains that because cheese contains vitamin A, essential fatty acids, calcium, and protein, it benefits their health. And the biggest bonus of cheese is that most dogs love it, and it's often used in treat-motivated training or to encourage a dog to take medicine when it's hidden in the dairy. 

The American Kennel Club does add that dogs don't need more than a few shreds or a small cube, and having more than that might tip the benefits in the wrong direction. Of course, though, if you’re concerned or unsure, it’s always a good idea to check in with your dog’s vet! But, as Rosie shows, doggies love the treat, and we love watching them eat it up!

Cats are famous for their striking coats and unusual markings, but every once in a while, a kitten shows up with fur patterns so perfect they almost look intentional. In the TikTok from @simonsits, Raven snuggled on the couch with Klee's fiancé, Jacob. The Shih-Tzu was fully enjoying Jacob's loving pets, but had an issue whenever Jacob took a break.

Every time he stopped and moved his arm away from her, Raven literally stuck her paw out, wrapped it around Jacob's arm, and brought it back to her. It was her own way of saying, "Get back to work." Klee and Jacob were totally amused by her gentle insistence.

What Is a Sun Bear?

Sun Bears may be the smallest of all bear species, but they pack in a surprising amount of personality—and power. About half the size of an American Black Bear, they’re instantly recognizable thanks to the pale crescent marking on their chest, often said to resemble a rising sun (and no two are exactly alike).

Despite their compact size, Sun Bears are impressively equipped. They have strong jaws for tearing into trees, long claws for climbing, and an extra-long tongue that’s perfect for reaching honey and insects tucked deep inside bark. They’re also excellent climbers, spending much of their time in trees where they rest, sunbathe, and even build nests.

Their diet leans heavily on fruit and insects, but they’re true opportunists—snacking on everything from honey and coconuts to small animals when the chance arises. And while they may look a little clumsy with their pigeon-toed walk, they’re actually quick and agile when they need to be.

Sun Bears are mostly solitary, with mothers raising cubs that are born completely helpless and dependent. Over time, those cubs grow into playful young bears before eventually heading out on their own.

Unfortunately, these fascinating animals are considered vulnerable to extinction. Habitat loss, poaching, and conflict with humans—especially around palm oil farming—have caused their numbers to decline significantly in recent decades.

Benny the Bernese Mountain Dog is the main employee at Dominion Hill Country Inn. The hotel is located in St. Patrick, New Brunswick, Canada. It's a little boutique hotel in a restored 1890s farmhouse, and the views are great, but let's be real. If I'm going, I am going for Benny.

At this time, it does not seem like there's a package available where Benny will also sleep in your room, which is a little sad. It's for his safety, though: a boy this sweet would definitely get dog-napped by one of his many adoring fans.

As you can imagine, pet parents want to know how they can get an invitation! But would all dogs want to attend?

Do Dogs Enjoy Parties and Music?

As a proud cat mom, I can say that a rave would be my kitties' worst nightmare. They don't even like to hear me run the Dustbuster. One of them darts off to the basement every time the doorbell rings. So it's safe to say this party vibe is not for them.

But what about dogs? These pups seem delighted by the vibe. Experts say certain music can calm dogs. Soft rock, classical music, and reggae are popular picks. While they don't appreciate the lyrics the way we might, they do find some sounds soothing. Some shelters and veterinarians' offices use soft classical music to calm pups.

When it comes to the party scene, some dogs enjoy being social. But if it's too loud or crowded, pets can become overwhelmed and overstimulated. Of course, it may depend on the breed and each individual pet's personality.
