‘Survivor’ Host Jeff Probst’s Brother Scott Probst Dead
Scott Probst, the younger brother of Jeff Probst who previously worked on Survivor alongside the host, has died.
Brent Probst announced the death of his and Jeff’s brother via Instagram on Monday, May 11.
“Some sad news, our brother Scott is no longer with us. He was a great brother, son and friend. I will miss him so much,” Brent captioned a photo of Scott. “I’m so sad he is gone.”
Brent did not offer any details on Scott’s cause of death.
Jeff, 64, is the eldest of Jerry and Barbara Probst’s three sons. The siblings were raised in Kansas before relocating to Washington when Jeff was 15.
View this post on InstagramJeff has been the host of Survivor since its May 2000 debut. Prior to his death, Scott worked alongside his older brother on the CBS reality competition series, serving as an art assistant, camera assistant, props assistant, grip and video engineer on multiple episodes between 2006 and 2012.
Scott’s other credits include working as a production coordinator on the video game Medal of Honor: Rising Sun in 2003 and a producer on the video games Medal of Honor: European Assault in 2005 and Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight in 2010.
Over the years, Jeff—who is also Survivor’s executive producer and showrunner—has involved his family in the production process. His niece Abby Probst joined the Dream Team in 2025, becoming a crew member who assists across departments and, more specifically, shadows the show’s assistant directors.
“She kicks ass,” Jeff told People on location in Fiji while filming season 50. “She came in with a last name that put a little bit of a spotlight on her, but she got the job on her own. She got asked back on her own.”
He added of Brent’s daughter, “We’re very clear here—everybody runs their department. And I know it’s a little weird because the last name is Probst, but had she not earned it, she wouldn’t be back.”
The Probst family’s tight-knit bond could be felt when Survivor paid tribute to Jeff’s mom, Barbara, after her death in November 2024 at age 85.
“Dedicated to Barb, the biggest Survivor fan of all time,” read an in memoriam slide at the end of season 47’s 10th episode. “See you on our next adventure.”
Earlier that month, Brent announced the news of Barbara’s death via Instagram.
“My amazing mom, Barbara Probst, passed away peacefully yesterday in her home,” he wrote at the time. “She was the best mom, grandma and just a fantastic person full of love and life. For the last couple years, she had full-time care for dementia and died one week before her 86th birthday. She had a great life and I am certain that I am a good person because she and my dad raised me with love and humor. I will miss her every single day for the rest of my life.”
The #1 Phrase To Say When Someone Asks an 'Overly Personal' Question
They say there are no such things as "stupid questions." But honestly, if someone asks you an overly personal question, you might wholeheartedly disagree—or at least feel awkward trying to figure out how to respond. It's understandable.
"Many of us are taught to prioritize politeness and likeability over self-protection and self-interest," says Dr. Gayle MacBride, Ph.D., LP, a psychologist with Veritas Psychology. "An overly personal question can catch you off guard. You then have to try to manage your own discomfort while also deciding on the fly whether or not to protect the other person from feeling awkward."
That's a lot to figure out in a flash. Talk about emotional labor—for a question you did not personally invite into your life. Complicating matters, Dr. MacBride says the person asking may be smiling, joking or acting as if the question is totally normal.
"That can make you second-guess yourself and wonder, 'Am I being too sensitive?'" she says. "Usually, you are not. Usually, your nervous system is telling you that a line just got crossed."
Knowing a few phrases to say if someone asks you an overly personal question can lighten the emotional load and come in clutch under pressure.
"Boundaries are easier to keep than to rebuild," Dr. MacBride notes. "Having a response at the ready helps keep you from the deer-in-the-headlights look. When we are caught off guard, we tend to overshare or answer out of pressure and then feel resentful or overly exposed later."
To help you protect your peace, she shares the best phrase to say when someone asks you an overly personal question. Plus, she also shares when you don't need to say anything at all.

What Is an 'Overly Personal' Question?fizkes/Getty Images
"An overly personal question is not just a question about a sensitive topic," Dr. MacBride explains. "It is a question that asks for more access than the relationship has earned."
She isn't knocking questions in general; they help build trust and grow closeness.
"But healthy disclosure tends to happen gradually, with each person responding to safety, respect and reciprocity along the way," she states. "Trust usually moves forward step by step, not in giant leaps just because someone decided to ask."
For this reason, context matters.
"The same question can feel caring in one relationship and invasive in another," she clarifies. "What makes it overly personal is not only the subject matter, but the mismatch between the question and the level of trust, closeness and consent that actually exists."

The Best Phrase To Say When Someone Asks an Overly Personal Question, According to a PsychologistDr. MacBride loves using "boundary phrases" when someone asks an overly personal question. One of her go-tos is: "I'm going to keep that private." It's casual, but clear.
"One reason people struggle in these moments is that they think boundaries have to be either totally flexible or scorched earth," the psychologist notes. "A more nuanced approach is often more appropriate."
Layered boundary phrases meet the moment.
"You do not always need the verbal equivalent of a stop sign," Dr. MacBride notes. "Sometimes a little deflection goes a long way. Sometimes you need a yellow light. Sometimes you need to be absolutely clear."
A more cautious (but still "yellow-light") boundary phrase is, “I’d rather not get into that.” She shares that a firmer (but still respectful) variation is, “That’s not something I’m discussing.”
Like "I'm going to keep that private," these phrases are short, clear and hard to argue with.
“The best boundary phrase is the one that matches the level of intrusion," Dr. MacBride notes. "Think green, yellow, red: polite but private, clear refusal or full stop.”

When To Use Boundary PhrasesDr. MacBride suggests using boundary phrases, such as "I'm going to keep that private," when someone asks an overly personal question that feels intrusive. They're also completely valid responses to questions with answers that are simply none of the asker's business. Some examples of overly personal question topics include:
- Your body
- Your marriage
- Whether you are having children
- Medical issues
- Any subject where the person is "acting entitled to information they have not earned," Dr. MacBride says.
"They are especially useful when you want to protect your privacy without turning the moment into a bigger confrontation than it needs to be," she adds.

When Not To Use Boundary PhrasesBoundary phrases are excellent responses to overly personal questions. But they aren't always the best approach. Sometimes, Dr. MacBride says warmth and redirection are the better options.
"For example, if a well-meaning friend asks a clumsy question and the relationship is important, you might choose a boundary that puts the relationship first, 'That’s a longer story than I want to get into today, but thanks for asking,'" she notes.
She also doesn't recommend boundary phrases if safety is an issue. In these cases, you'll need stronger, more direct responses.
"If someone is harassing, badgering or using personal questions to control or humiliate you, skip the polite wording and move toward ending the interaction," she says.

5 More Ways To Respond to Overly Personal Questions1. "Why do you ask?"Yep, it's completely valid to respond to an overly personal question with an ask of your own.
"Turning the question back on them not only redirects, but it also provides the opportunity to learn more about why this is important to them," Dr. MacBride explains. "Sometimes, people fall into asking questions without really thinking about what they’ll do with that information."
This question causes them to pause and explain their motivation.
"Sometimes people hear themselves for the first time when they have to explain why they want deeply personal information," she notes. "It can expose whether the question was caring, clueless, or just plain intrusive."

2. “I’m not available for that conversation”This phrase is more definitive but remains firmly planted in "kind and clear" territory.
"There’s no judgment about the value of the conversation, simply that you are not going to participate–for any number of reasons, which you are not bound to enumerate," Dr. MacBride says. "I love this because it protects both content and energy. You are not debating whether the topic is important. You are stating that this is not a conversation you are willing to have right now, which is often the real issue."
3. “Let’s talk about something else”This phrase calls for a redirect.
"You’re saying, 'I’m not going to participate in this, but I am willing to engage in another conversation,'" Dr. MacBride notes. "This is simple, social and highly effective. It is especially useful in group settings, family gatherings or work events where your goal is not to process the boundary, but to move the room along."
Tone is important for keeping this phrase calm, neutral or more sensitive—depending on the moment and relationship. Depending on the moment, person and subject matter, you may opt for kinder, neutral or firmer, she shares.
4. “That’s too personal for me”Dr. MacBride shares that this call-out is a way of saying, "Nope, I'm out." It's more of a red-light approach, which works well in some instances.
"It can be surprisingly helpful for people who genuinely do not realize they have crossed a line, and it gives them useful feedback without requiring you to teach a full seminar on boundaries over appetizers," she says.

5. [Not at all]Sometimes, silence speaks volumes.
"If you have answered once, declined once, or redirected once, and the person keeps pushing, you do not owe more of an explanation," Dr. MacBride states. "Repetition shows that you are not confused about the limit and makes clear that the boundary is real."
She shares it's completely reasonable—and even best—to then stop engaging at this time.
"A boundary can’t be just something you say," she notes. "It has to be something you are willing and able to enforce."

Final TakeawaysOverly personal questions are hard to respond to, but having some strategies can help you protect your peace and privacy. Here's what to keep in mind:
- Overly personal questions aren't just ones about sensitive topics. Dr. MacBride shares that overly personal questions ask for information that the asker hasn't earned the right to have through trust and relationship-building.
- Boundary-setting phrases are the best responses. Dr. MacBride personally loves
“I’m going to keep that private.” It's casual, kind, clear and firm. - Boundary phrases work in many settings, including work and personal ones. Use them to protect your privacy but lower the odds of a confrontation.
- Sometimes, boundary phrases aren't the best option. In some instances, a gentle redirect works best. In others, boundary phrases may be too gentle, such as if you're being harassed.
- It's OK to stop responding. You don't have to keep repeating yourself. Silence and walking away are also responses.

Nicole Kidman’s Mother’s Day Throwback Photo of Her Daughters Sparks Reaction Online
Nicole Kidman honored her daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, this past Mother's Day. However, her tributes were not without criticism.
The 58-year-old actress took to Instagram to share a throwback picture of herself, Sunday, and Faith enjoying a sweet, playful moment. In the caption, she wrote, "To my beautiful girls, the greatest joy is being your mother. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in the world." By Monday, May 11, Kidman's post had gained over 95,000 likes.
Supporters of the heartfelt tribute on Instagram included Father of the Bride star and author Kimberly Williams-Paisley and The Home Edit co-founder Clea Shearer. However, some fans questioned Kidman's public praise, particularly because of the noticeable omission of her other children — Isabella "Bella" Kidman Cruise and Connor Cruise.
View this post on Instagram"What about the other two? C'mon, Nicole… Full stop," wrote one individual. Another commented, "I thought you had four kids! This is so weird." However, one fan came to Kidman's defense, stating, "To everyone asking about her other kids, maybe they let her down, maybe they didn't show up. Kids are human, but so are parents. Sometimes you want to acknowledge the kids who remember you over the ones who show no care. Nicole's older kids are adults; they won't crumple if they are not in an Instagram post…"
Kidman shares 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 15-year-old Faith Margaret with country singer-songwriter Keith Urban, and Isabella and Connor with ex-husband Tom Cruise. Urban and Kidman made headlines in 2025 for their announced split. Cruise and Kidman adopted Isabella and Connor, who are both currently in their 30s. Isabella and Connor continue to live their lives away from the Hollywood spotlight, while Sunday and Faith have embarked on acting and modeling careers.
While rumors of an alleged rift between Sunday, Faith, and their father have recently emerged, PEOPLE reports that they are in contact with one another. "The girls are very close with their mom and also protective of her. They do have a relationship with their dad, too. The family dynamic is much more normal than people assume," says a source.
Dianna Russini Seen With Husband for the First Time Since Mike Vrabel Scandal
Dianna Russini has been photographed with her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, for the first time since news broke of an alleged affair between her and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
In photos obtained by Page Six, the former Athletic reporter is seen kissing her husband while holding one of their two sons outside their New Jersey home on Mother’s Day.
Goldschmidt can be seen wearing his wedding ring in the pictures, while Russini's left hand is not visible.
“People in the community have said they’ve been very resilient as a family,” a source told the outlet of the couple, who have reportedly been seen together at activities for their kids and other family occasions amid the scandal.
“They haven’t been in hiding,” the source added.

Last month, photos published in the New York Post showed Russini and Vrabel holding hands and hugging at a luxury hotel in Arizona.
After the pictures went viral, Russini and Vrabel both called the photos “misleading” and vehemently denied any infidelity. The sports journalist has been married to Goldschmidt since 2020 while the football coach and his wife Jennifer have been married since 1999.
Nevertheless, Russini resigned from The Athletic on Apr. 14, and Vrabel announced on Apr. 23 that he would be seeking counseling in the wake of the scandal.
Later on Apr. 23, Page Six released photos that appeared to show Russini and Vrabel kissing at a bar in New York City in March 2020—seemingly confirming the alleged affair and sparking questions about the timeline of the pair’s relationship.
“I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about,” Vrabel told reporters before the 2026 NFL Draft on Apr. 23. “My family, this football team, the organization and the fans.”
“My priorities are my family and this football and in that order,” he added, before sharing he would miss the third and final day of the draft for counseling. “There’s a balance there that I’m going to create. My family needs me this weekend and that’s where I’ll be.”
Vrabel declined to elaborate on what the counseling would entail, calling it a “private and personal matter.” He also told reporters that he could not say for certain if he would miss any further football activities going forward.

1978 Soft Rock Hit, Written After a Band Breakup, Became a Career-Defining Classic
In 1978, the Sniff 'n' the Tears released their hit song, "Drivers Seat," and it steered the band into the spotlight.
The single was a part of the British band's debut album, Fickle Heart. Though the record didn't do well in the United Kingdom music market, the song reached the Top 20 in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, as well as the Top 10 in the Netherlands. In the United States, "Drivers Seat" peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1979.
A little less than 20 years later, "Drivers Seat" was used in a commercial for the Pioneer car stereo, which led the song to peak at the top of the charts in the Netherlands in 1991.
"When I first heard it, I recall saying to my friend, 'I never heard this Bob Dylan song before,'" wrote Dave Christiane of Yacht Rock Nation on Facebook last June. "I have loved it since 1979. Sniff's best….and, as far as I know….only major song."

'Driver's Seat' was written after a band breakupSinger-songwriter and guitarist Paul Roberts wrote "Driver's Seat" sometime in the early-to-mid 1970s after his previous band, Ashes of the Moon, split up. He eventually shifted away from a music career and tried to become a painter, but drummer Luigi Salvoni encouraged Roberts to reform the project, which led them to sign with indie label Chiswick Records, record the hit, and it eventally becoming the lead single for Fickle Heart.
Salvoni's idea also led to the formation of Sniff 'n' the Tears, which also included Loz Netto, Chris Birkin, Mick Dyche and Alan Fealdman.
Posed group portrait of Sniff 'n' the Tears. Left to right are Mick Dyche, Paul Roberts, Luigi Salvoni, Loz Netto, Nick South and Keith Miller in 1979.While often mistaken for a driving song, the lyrics are actually about the conflicting thoughts emotions and desires to move on after a relationship breakup.
"It just means to take charge of your own life," Roberts told Interviewing the Legends in June 2023. "Get your act together, really."
Continuation into the 1980sFollowing the success of Fickle Heart, Sniff released their sophomore album, The Game's Up, in 1980. Unfortunately, The Game's Up garnered no hits, and Netto and Dyche left to pursue solo careers. Robert decided to continue on, find new members and released Love/Action in 1981 and Ride Blue Divide in 1982. These albums didn't produce hits, and their contract with Chiswick Records was not renewed. The group broke up in 1983.
Two years after the split of Sniff, Roberts debuted as a solo artist and signed with Sonet Records. He released two albums: City Without Walls (1985) and Kettle Drum Blues (1987). Meanwhile Netto issued singles such as "Fade Away" and "We Touch" with the former being a No. 82 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and the music video having airplay on MTV in 1983, and the latter song appeared in an episode of Miami Vice.
Where are Sniff 'n' the Tears Now?After being absent during the 1980s, Sniff 'n' the Tears suddenly revived after "Driver's Seat" made a comeback in 1992, thanks to a European ad. Roberts took this as an opportunity to create a new Sniff 'n' the Tears, and took them out on the road in the Netherlands and Germany. The new lineup included Roberts, Les Davidson, Jeremy Meek, Steve Jackson and Andy Giddings. In addition, they released No Damage Done, their first studio album in a decade.
"Driver's Seat" got a brief revival again in 1997 when it was heavily featured in the film Boogie Nights, and the tenth episode of the second season of The Walking Dead. Since the 1990s, Sniff has released four studio albums, with their most recent being Jump in 2020, which includes acoustic versions of their best songs, including "Driver's Seat."
Now, Sniff 'n' the Tears is just Roberts and Davidson as an acoustic duo, with Paul Robinson and Robin Langridge joining them occasionally on keyboards and drums, respectively.

When it comes to the success of "Driver's Seat," Roberts "[doesn 't] really know" why it's such a huge success, even today.
"I don’t really know," the 78-year-old musician told Athens Calling. "I think it has an energy and it’s unusual in its structure, the lyric is positive. People seem to love it."

The Moment Garth Brooks Froze for Seconds — And Changed His Career Forever
Garth Brooks didn’t move when his name was called at the 1991 ACM Awards. For a few quiet seconds, he simply sat there—taking in what had just happened while the room waited for a reaction that didn’t come right away. It wasn’t just another win on a country music stage. In that brief pause, something shifted in real time before a live audience. The moment marked a defining breakthrough in his career.
On Monday, May 11, Garth Brooks shared a new post, linking to an article on his official website that revisited that night 35 years ago, when he walked away with six awards and set a record for the most ACM wins in a single evening. It was his Entertainer of the Year win, however, that left him frozen in place.
"When they said Garth’s name in unison, he sat for a few seconds in stunned silence before hugging his family and stepping to the podium," reads his website, in part. "He thanked his booking agency, Buddy Lee Attractions, his band and crew, and 'most of all, those people that fill those concert seats and slept out overnight for tickets. You guys are crazy, but I’m having a ball.'"
In the years that followed, Brooks would go on to win Entertainer of the Year five more times. He received the same honor at the Country Music Association (CMAs) with seven titles (1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016, 2017, and 2019).
The 61st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards show is set to take place on May 17. Although Brooks isn't nominated for an award this year, there are some other talented country music singers who find themselves on the nominee list. When it comes to Entertainer of the Year, the choices are Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, and Morgan Wallen.
‘I’m a Cardiologist—This Is the Sleep Position That’s Hardest on Your Heart'
Many factors contribute to heart health, including eating a healthy diet and living an active lifestyle. But, while it tends to be one of the first things people let slide, sleep is also a crucial element of heart health.
“Getting enough quality sleep is an important part of keeping your heart healthy,” says Dr. Cheng-Han Chen, MD, interventional cardiologist and medical director of the Structural Heart Program at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center in Laguna Hills, CA. “During sleep, the body is resting and repairing your cardiovascular system.”
That rest and repair while you sleep can help protect against risk factors for heart disease, like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and obesity, Dr. Chen says.

But there’s more that’s happening to your heart at night than just revitalization. Your sleep position can impact your heart—and Dr. Chen says there’s one in particular that can be tough on this organ, especially if you have a certain cardiovascular condition.
Research on sleep position’s impact on the heart is still evolving, and it’s hard to say that one sleep position in particular will completely alter your heart health. Still, it could influence how comfortable you are and may put unnecessary strain on your system. Here’s what you need to know.

What Sleep Position Is Hardest on Your Heart?Sleeping on your left side may be hardest on your heart, according to Dr. Chen. “The heart is in the middle of your chest, but it’s positioned more toward the left side,” he says. “When you’re sleeping on your left side, it puts slightly more pressure on the heart chambers.”
For people with good underlying cardiovascular health, this is unlikely to be an issue, Dr. Chen explains. But if you have a condition like congestive heart failure, it can make a difference in how comfortable you feel.
Related: ‘I’m a Cardiologist—This Is the First Thing I Always Look at in a Patient’s Lab Results’
“We know that people with congestive heart failure tend to feel better when they sleep on their right side,” Dr. Chen says. Sleeping on the left side makes it slightly harder for the heart to pump, which can lead to discomfort, he explains.
But, again, research on this is ongoing. “The science on sleep position is far less developed than the science on sleep duration, quality and sleep disorders,” saysDr. Catherine Weinberg, MD, cardiologist at Northwell’s Lenox Hill Hospital. “Sleeping on either side can shift blood flow and mechanical forces on the heart, and for people with heart failure or other cardiac conditions, even small changes could matter.”
Related: Here’s Exactly What Happens to Your Cholesterol When You Eat Bananas
Another Concerning Sleep Position To Keep in MindSleeping on your back can also be tough on your heart, although the reason is more indirect. “The biggest positional red flag backed by strong evidence is actually sleeping on your back if you have obstructive sleep apnea,” Dr. Weinberg says.
What does that have to do with your heart? Obstructive sleep apnea is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, according to the American Heart Association (AHA). It’s specifically linked to a higher risk of high blood pressure, stroke and coronary artery disease, along with heart failure, per the AHA.
Sleeping on your back when you have obstructive sleep apnea causes your tongue and the soft tissues in your throat to move back, narrowing or blocking your airway in the process, Dr. Chen explains.
“If you already have heart disease, this should be on your radar,” Dr. Weinberg says. “Sleep apnea is underdiagnosed in patients with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, poorly controlled high blood pressure and coronary artery disease.”
How To Sleep To Best Support Your Heart HealthThere are a few ways to use sleep to support your heart health.
Dr. Weinberg recommends sticking with a consistent schedule, making sure to leave yourself room to get at least seven hours of sleep a night. “Regularity matters just as much as duration,” she says. Going to sleep in a dark room, with a cool temperature, is also crucial, per Dr. Weinberg.
Finally, pay attention to how you feel after you sleep. “If you snore, drag through your days exhausted, have morning headaches or can't fall or stay asleep, talk to your doctor,” she says. “These are warning signs of sleep disorders that can seriously damage your heart.”

The Social Security Administration Just Released the Most Popular Baby Names of 2025—and a Surprising Trend Is Emerging
The Social Security Administration just released its list of the most popular baby names of 2025, and one thing is perfectly clear: vintage names and classic monikers are in. Last year’s list of popular baby names shows a movement toward old-style names, soft vowel-heavy names, and a strong multicultural and global influence. Thanks to social media — TikTok in particular — a new baby name trend is also rising, which means throwing proper spelling out the window in favor of carving one’s own path, spelled with a “K,” naturally.
View this post on InstagramThe SSA’s annual baby name rankings have officially been released, with classic names emerging as the clear winners. Simply put, parents are leaning toward timeless, soft-sounding names with modern flair, while social media trends, iconic fictional characters, and multicultural influences continue shaping what “popular” looks like in America right now.
For girls, the most popular baby name of 2025 was Olivia, with Charlotte, Emma, Amelia, and Sophia rounding out the top five. For boys born in 2025, the most popular names include Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, and Henry.
For the seventh year in a row, Liam and Olivia topped the baby boy and baby girl name lists, while soft-vowel names like Amelia and Mia continue rising in popularity.

Why Vintage Baby Names Are Dominating in 2025 View this post on InstagramUnique spellings of classic names are also on the rise thanks to social media influences from the likes of Khloé Kardashian and company, who have helped popularize personalized spellings of traditional names.
What does it all mean? The current trend of personalizing classic and vintage names suggests new parents want their kids to stand out — just not too much. Names like Eliana, Theodore, Eloise, and Charlotte fit that sweet spot perfectly.
This fresh take on old-timey names also suggests new parents are thinking ahead. While it may seem cute to name your baby something trendy and offbeat like Jicama, many parents want to give their children a name that ages well over time.
Simply put, parents want to give their children names that will stand the test of time while still allowing them to stand out during roll call at school.
Social Media Has Plenty To Say About Baby Name TrendsSocial media commenters had a lot to say about the current state of baby naming in America.
“Team Emma here,” confessed one commenter.
Another questioned anyone’s sanity who names their child Theodore.
Some chalked up the popularity of the name Olivia to a beloved TV icon, writing, “All the women growing up watching SVU and loving Detective Olivia Benson.”
Others were already staking a claim for their future child’s name.
“I love the name Liam. I can’t wait to name my future son Liam,” one person commented.
If you’re one of the lucky ones who grew up able to find your name on gift shop tchotchkes, the tide may be turning. It’s Olivia’s time now. Sorry, Susan, Alan, Laura, and Michael. Vintage is officially in.

1974 No. 1 Hit, Originally a Heartbreak Anthem, Ranked Among Best ‘Soft Rock Songs’ of All Time
The soft rock genre is stacked with songs about devastating breakups and unmendable romances. This 1974 classic has persevered as one of the best heartbreak anthems in the genre.
In 2024, Ultimate Classic Rock ranked the top 40 soft rock songs, compiling a list of the genre's greatest works. Ranked among standout classics such as 10cc's 1975 hit "I'm Not in Love" at No. 13 and Carly Simon's 1972 hit "You're So Vain" at No. 9, Gordon Lightfoot's 1974 classic "Sundown" secured the No. 12 spot.
Released on March 25, 1974, as the title track from his ninth studio album, Sundown, the song was a major hit. Upon release, the track climbed up the Billboard charts, peaking at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks in June and marking Lightfoot's first chart-topping single. The song also earned success internationally, reaching No. 1 in Canada and South Africa and the top five in Australia.
Musicians Gordon Lightfoot and Johnny Cash sit close up on set playing acoustic guitars while rehearsing at the Ryman Theater in Nashville, Tennessee for their performance on the Johnny Cash Show January 13th, 1971.Not only was "Sundown" an international success, but it also achieved significant commercial milestones. Only two months after its release, the track was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for its outstanding sales. In the U.S. alone, the song sold over 500,000 units, attesting to the high demand for Lightfoot's work.
Written by Lightfoot, "Sundown" explored vulnerable themes of betrayal and paranoia within a failing relationship. Inspired by his own dysfunctional relationship with his then-girlfriend Cathy Smith, Lightfoot wrote extremely personal lyrics about the jealousy he felt when he suspected Smith was seeing other people. The track's poignant and dark delivery made it an instant heartbreak anthem.
Today, Lightfoot's chart-topper continues to resonate with modern audiences in the streaming era. On Spotify alone, "Sundown" has accumulated over 227 million streams, affirming its ability to reach wide-ranging audiences for over five decades.

1959 Hit Drama Film, Based on a True Story, Ranked Among ‘Greatest Films of All Time’
In 1959, a deeply personal film about childhood rebellion and loneliness helped change cinema forever.
The 400 Blows, directed by François Truffaut, was inspired heavily by the director’s own troubled youth and later earned a place in the British Film Institute's prestigious Sight and Sound ranking of the greatest films of all time.
Widely considered one of the defining works of the French New Wave movement, the film follows Antoine Doinel, a misunderstood Parisian teenager who struggles with neglect at home, harsh discipline at school and increasing isolation from the adults around him.
Much of the story drew directly from Truffaut's own life. Like Antoine, Truffaut experienced a difficult childhood, frequently skipped school and spent time in a juvenile detention center as a teenager. Those autobiographical elements gave the film an emotional realism that audiences and critics immediately recognized.
Rather than portraying childhood sentimentally, The 400 Blows presents adolescence as confusing, painful and deeply lonely. That honesty became one of the film's greatest strengths.
"The 400 Blows became a rather pessimistic film," Truffaut told The New Yorker in 1984. "I can’t really say what the theme is—there is none, perhaps—but one central idea was to depict early adolescence as a difficult time of passage and not to fall into the usual nostalgia about 'the good old days,' the salad days of youth. Because, for me in any event, childhood is a series of painful memories. Now, when I feel blue, I tell myself, 'I'm an adult. I do as I please,' and that cheers me up right away."
The movie also introduced audiences to actor Jean-Pierre Léaud, whose performance as Antoine became iconic. Truffaut would later continue the character’s story across multiple films over the following decades.
Visually, the film stood apart from traditional studio productions of the era. Truffaut used location shooting, naturalistic performances and fluid camerawork to create a sense of immediacy that helped define the French New Wave's revolutionary style.
"When it was released in New York four months ago, the theatres were empty until the reviews came out," Truffaut said in a 1960 interview. "Since the reviews were flattering, the theatres filled up. I think business was starting to slow down right when the American critics decided to name it best foreign film."
Perhaps the film's most famous moment is its unforgettable ending, featuring Antoine running toward the ocean before the image freezes on his face, a final shot that remains one of the most discussed endings in film history.
Over the decades, The 400 Blows has continued to influence filmmakers around the world, with its themes of alienation and youth remaining timeless.
Its inclusion in Sight and Sound's ranking of the greatest films ever made further cemented its legacy, not just as a landmark French film, but as one of cinema's most powerful and personal coming-of-age stories.

46 Years Later, the ‘Greatest Slasher’ of 1980 Is Back: Prequel Date and Lead Actor Confirmed
Grab your flashlight and sleeping bag because this 1980s summer camp is coming back…
Peacock announced the fall premiere date for their upcoming Crystal Lake series, a prequel to the 1980 slasher film Friday the 13th.
The original movie launched one of the longest-running horror franchises, spanning 12 films. It follows teenage counselors attempting to reopen Camp Crystal Lake. They ignore warnings from locals and are slowly killed one by one by an unknown killer.
It was directed by Sean S. Cunningham and starred a young KevinBacon, Adrienne King, Betsy Palmer, and Harry Crosby.
The low-budget indie brought in $5,816,321 on opening weekend and grossed $59,754,601 worldwide, with a $550,000 budget.
It became an instant classic (despite some negative reviews). Friday the 13th is often cited as one of the greatest horror films ever made. It is featured onRotten Tomatoes’list of “100 Best Slasher Movies.”
Now, the 1980 film is getting a prequel. The upcoming series, Crystal Lake, will premiere on Peacock. It stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and will feature William Catlett, DevinKessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
Crystal Lake follows Voorhees after she gave up her singing career to take care of Jason, her special needs child.
Voorhees is revealed to be the killer in Friday the 13th. She aims to avenge Jason’s death by preventing the camp from being reopened. Her son drowned at the camp 20 years prior to the film, and she blamed the counselors for his death.
In a 2016 interview with the Daily Dead, King shared how monumental this twist was.
“In terms of women not being victims, or a woman being the killer, it hadn’t really been done before,” she said. “And sometimes I think about if it was accidentally empowering women, or if they just wanted to do something that had a twist. And who would have ever guessed that the killer could have been a woman? A sweet lady, too, Betsy Palmer. No one saw that coming.”
Fans of Friday the 13th can see what led up to that fateful day on October 15, when Crystal Lake hits streaming.
1978 Classic Ballad, Originally Written for Another Artist, Became the Band's First-Ever No. 1 Hit
The '70s—oh, what a time. A legendary era for music, providing countless hits that became timeless anthems that have lived on for decades after they were released. 1978's "Three Times a Lady" by The Commodores is one of the tracks that made waves, ultimately climbing up the charts to deliver the band's very first No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit.
Written by group member Lionel Richie, it was famously inspired by his parents' wedding anniversary, then dedicated to his own wife, Brenda.
“My father stood up and gave this wonderful speech about how he had been around my mother and spent years of ups and downs,” the singer/songwriter told TV host Dick Clark years ago, per Classic Motown, “and [how] he’s probably never taken the time to say, ‘Thank you, Alberta, for all the years that you’ve spent with me and struggled with me,’ and I said, ‘My goodness, I’m in the same situation.’”
Richie's father toasted his mother, pointing out the trio of ways she stood out to him: "She's a great lady, she's a great mother, and she's a great friend."
Initially, though, Richie didn't think the ballad style was well-suited for The Commodores. It was actually meant to be sung by Frank Sinatra. "A waltz was nothing close to what we needed at the time," he told Billboard in 2016 of the song.
It took someone else to change his mind about keeping the track for his own group. "But when my co-producer James Carmichael learned that I had this secret stash of songs, what he said to me was, ‘Let’s go back and see what you’ve written for other people.’ And I played him ‘Three Times a Lady’ and said, 'I want to give this to Sinatra.' And he said, 'No you won’t, you’re going to give this to the Commodores,'” he continued.
“Three Times A Lady” was one of eight tracks on The Commodores’ Natural High album, released May 10, 1978. It dropped as a single on June 8, and before the end of July, it made it into the Top 10. The sentimental song bolted straight to the top spot, peaking at No. 1 in August and knocking the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” out of its position.
It received Grammy nominations in the Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo/Group, and Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo/Group categories that year, none of which it took home. Despite awards show losses, it remains a timeless hit 48 years after its release.
'View' Host Alyssa Farah Griffin Shares Update Following Baby Son's Emergency Surgery
After Alyssa Farah Griffin shared last week that her baby had to undergo emergency surgery, she let fans know that Justin Jr. has had a smooth recovery.
"He's doing so well," she said, while chatting on The View's podcast, "Behind the Table," on Monday. "Babies are so resilient, they heal so quickly, he's not showing any discomfort, his sleep's a little disruptive—I'll take that any day of the week—he's got his scar but even that seems like it's healing unbelievably quickly."
"Going from seeing him in his ICU bed to being this vibrant happy smiling boy a week later was like the most incredible gift I could have asked for," she added.
The update comes after Griffin shared that her 3-month-old underwent an unexpected procedure. While she didn't disclose the details of why he needed the surgery, she shared the struggles of dealing with the daunting situation as a parent. During Monday's discussion though, she shared how she trusted the medical experts.
"You are going to love your kids more than anyone else but part of loving him is trusting someone else to take care of them when the situation calls for it," she said. "That person's an expert with skilled hands who spent years of their life preparing to do that and they can give him something I can't give him."
The View host welcomed Justin Jr. with her husband, also named Justin, in February.
As a bit of relief from their time in the ICU, Alyssa also shared that the new family had a low key Mother's Day together, which coincidentally was baby Justin's 3-month birthday.
"It was so magical, we honestly had a cozy day at home," she said. "My husband got me flowers, he got me two beautiful gifts and we just spent the day enjoying little Justin...I'm not exaggerating it was one of the happiest days of my life."
"He was so much fun, and [it] just feels more and more everyday like his personality is coming out," she added. "I'm just in heaven, I'm in absolute heaven with him."
Nancy Guthrie Update: Retired FBI Says Lack of Updates Is Calculated as Search Hits 100 Days
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother Nancy Guthrie's case officially hit 100 days—and a retired FBI agent said the lack of updates is likely calculated.
On Monday, May 11, KOLD-TV spoke with former FBI agent Scott Augenbaum about the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) offering little to no insight about the investigation after the 84-year-old was abducted from her Tucson, Ariz., home on Feb. 1.
“There are primary case agents that their sole responsibility is to see this case through,” Augenbaum explained. “We’re probably not going to really hear much until somebody is indicted."
He added, "You don’t want to tip off the hands of the suspect. If the suspect’s out there now, you don’t even want them to think anything is going on.”
Related: Nancy Guthrie Update: Officials Push to Remove Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos From Office
On May 8, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos offered a hopeful update on Nancy's case when he was approached by a Fox News Digital reporter ahead of Mother's Day. “It’s 100 days now, almost, sir,” the male journalist pointed out. “Are you guys any closer to solving?”
Nanos replied, “We are,” while nodding and adding that things were going “really great.”
Meanwhile, the FBI recently obtained DNA evidence—a hair sample—for analysis after the PCSD first sent it to a private lab in Florida. New technology could crack the case, genetic genealogist CeCe Moore told NewsNation’s Brian Entin.
“Now we just have to hope that it is the person or persons—one of the persons—who kidnapped Nancy,” Moore said of the rootless hair. “It’s again, kind of a Hail Mary. Everything is getting to that point, I feel, because so much time has gone by. But you just never know.”
However, processing the DNA evidence could still take months.
View this post on InstagramIn other recent news, FBI Director Kash Patel publicly criticized the PCSD over its handling of the case, claiming the department pushed him out for four days. The PCSD released a statmeent about Patel's comments, which prompted the acting attorney general to set the record straight on "friction" between the agencies.
As of writing, no suspects have been named in Nancy's case.
1977 Hit Movie’s Timeless Music Became the Defining Soundtrack of the Disco Era
Saturday Night Fever wasn’t just a movie soundtrack. It became the sound of an entire generation. Powered by the legendary Bee Gees, tracks like “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” and “How Deep Is Your Love” became synonymous with the Brothers Gibb and the glittering pulse of the disco era. When their falsetto-driven sound hit airwaves in 1977, the underground subculture that was disco exploded into a full-blown global obsession.
View this post on InstagramFeaturing six massive hits by the Bee Gees, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack shot to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and stayed there for a whopping 24 weeks. Though the record itself was shut out of the 50th Academy Awards, it scored Album of the Year at the 1979 Grammys and went on to sell more than 40 million copies worldwide. At the height of disco mania, everyone wanted to get their mitts on some Gibb.
Behind the scenes, the story was as feverish as the music itself. At the time, Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb were hunkered down at the Chateau d’Herouville recording studio in France working on the follow-up to theirChildren of the World album when manager and producer Robert Stigwood called asking for songs for a movie he was developing. Then titled Tribal Rites of a Saturday Night, the film was pitched as a low-budget flick about the Brooklyn disco scene inspired by a New York magazine article.
The brothers ended up handing over several tracks, including “Night Fever,” which Stigwood liked so much, he used for the official film title. Meanwhile, the Bee Gees had no idea what they’d just done. They were completely unaware of the impact they were going to make with their newly crafted, defining soundtrack of the disco movement.
Saturday Night Fever, the soundtrack, went on to become one of the bestselling albums of all time, and now, nearly 50 years later, it's still impossible not to shimmy our shoulders, strut to the beat, and strike our best John Travolta disco point when we hear those tunes. It’s ’70s nostalgia at its sequined finest. And it’s the only fever we lean into catching day and night.
