'Klara and the Sun' Trailer: Jenna Ortega Is a Robot Who Just Wants a Home
For anyone who has spent the past four years wondering what Hollywood might do to Klara and the Sun, the first trailer dropped June 22 with one immediate and somewhat disarming effect. Which is...it's not what anyone expected.
Kazuo Ishiguro's 2021 novel is bittersweet and emotional. The story is narrated by Klara, a solar-powered robot sold in a storefront and purchased to keep a sick girl company. Critics drew comparisons to Never Let Me Go, noting the novel carries the same quality of poignant understatement that defined Ishiguro's earlier work, while being more meditative. The trailer for Taika Waititi's adaptation, out October 23 from Sony Pictures, is warmer and more whimsical than the source material suggests, and that difference is already generating conversation among the novel's devoted readers.
What is not in dispute is Jenna Ortega. Cast against type in the role of Klara, the actress best known for her work in Wednesdayand Beetlejuice Beetlejuice plays the robot with wide eyes and a manner that is almost childlike in its earnestness. She slides down staircases on her stomach. She tilts her face toward the sun like a flower. She talks about wanting to find the right family with what seems to be true sincerity. It's the furthest possible distance from goth, and Ortega navigates it well.
Amy Adams plays the sick girl Josie's mother, a woman who acquires Klara with visible reluctance. 'Consider this a trial period,' she tells the robot in the trailer. 'You're still under warranty. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to send you back.' The line sounds both funny and a little chilling, which is exactly the register Waititi seems to be aiming for.

Waititi, who told Vanity Fair that this is 'probably' his most dramatic film, said he initially tried to lean into comedy before realizing it undercut the source material. Ortega, for her part, told the same publication that the role wasn't entirely accidental. 'Maybe I did want a break from the angsty teen/young adult category I felt a bit stuck in sometimes,' she said.
Ishiguro himself serves as executive producer, and the film's score will be composed by Michael Giacchino, his fourth collaboration with Waititi. Whether Waititi's version can translate the novel's emotional texture to the screen is a question the October 23 release will answer. For now, the trailer has done its job. It's made us curious about a story featuring robot who just wants a family.

Sheinelle Jones Had QuestionsJones tried to imagine what would happen if Hal walked into the studio.
"What would you do if Hal Hager walked in here?" Bush Hager asked.
"And licked me?" Jones replied.
Jones then joked that Hal might be a "little old" to still be doing that.

"I need to talk to him, you're right," she said.

'AGT' Winner Signs Major Hollywood Deal to Share His Inspiring Story
Who's been your favorite winner over the years when it comes to America's Got Talent?
There have been some unbelievable contestants, with tear-jerking stories that often lead to the coveted "Golden Buzzer" on NBC's hit competition series. One such "talent" comes to mind from a couple years back.
Richard Goodall, otherwise known as the "singing janitor," won AGT in 2024 â and his success story doesn't end there. According to Deadline, he's at the center of a deal with Everard Entertainment and Mad Chance to turn his impossible story into a feature film.
âRichard Goodallâs unbelievable journey from sweeping hallways to the center of televisionâs biggest stage is the epitome of the American dream,â said Everard's Ben Everard in a statement, per Deadline. âLike the millions worldwide, I was captivated the moment he stepped foot on that audition stage. Bringing his journey to the silver screen is an honor we take seriously.â
âGoodallâs story is one of never giving up on your dreams, no matter what your circumstances are or your age," Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar added in a statement. "No doubt this film will resonate with audiences around the world.â
In season 19 of AGT, Goodall â who worked as a janitor for 20 years â shocked viewers with his Golden-Buzzer rendition of Journey's âDonât Stop Believin'.â At age 56, he became the oldest winner of the show and Heidi Klum's first Golden Buzzer win.
At the time, Simon Cowell told him, âRichard, you are my hero because that was special. Genuinely special. I think America is going to love you.â
Parade once spoke with Goodall about his "journey" to AGT (pun intended) and what inspired him to audition. He spoke about how the filmed version of his 2022 rendition of "Don't Stop Believin'" went viral, with Steve Perry ultimately putting it on all of his socials. Read more here.
1977 Rock Classic, Inspired by One of the âBest Monster Moviesâ of All Time, Became a Pop Culture Anthem
Blue Ăyster Cult were becoming known as a cult band in the '70s and gained further infamy when they released "Godzilla." Any movie fan would know the clear inspiration behind the track that gave the band steady radio airplay and became one of their signature classics.
"Godzilla" soon joined the band's list of recognizable tracks alongside "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "Burnin' for You." Sadly, the track never actually made it to the Billboard charts, but it didn't stop it from becoming a staple among hard rock fans. When it comes to the inspiration behind the track, it seems obvious.
Godzilla debuted on the big screen in 1954 and was directed and co-written by IshirĆ Honda. The colossal 100-meter-tall monster terrorized Japan and left destruction in its wake, and quickly became a pop culture icon. It quickly branched into a long-lasting media franchise, including toys, series, movie installments, and video games.
In a list created by Paste Magazine, Godzilla is tagged as one of the "Best Monster Movies" to have ever been released. Titled under its original name, Gojira, the movie lands at No. 7 on their list, talking about its cultural impact and hidden ties to history.
Critics called Blue Ăyster Cult's "Godzilla" a "clever rocker tale" about the monster. Many praised its use of guitar and special effects, while tuning in perfectly to the old-fashioned era of monster music. According to American Songwriter, lead guitarist and vocalist Buck Dharma didn't originally set out to write about the monster, but some of the guitar riffs he worked on led him there.
âThe story of the tune was, I just came up with the parallel fifths guitar riff in a hotel room in Dallas, Texas, back in the day, probably about 1975. And it immediately made me think of Godzilla, like the plodding, you know, guy-in-a-suit monster. And I started writing the lyrics from what happened in the movie. Like, the high-tension wires are a big part of that movie," he said.
The lyrics for "Godzilla" instead focused on seeing the monster with pity alongside its undeniable ability to be feared. Blue Ăyster Cult made the track a concert staple, and multiple rock bands, including The Smashing Pumpkins, have since covered it. System of a Down lead vocalist Serj Tankian covered the song to be featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, marking the first time the song has been used in the franchise.
In 1998, when Roland Emmerich directed his own reboot version of the film, many were stunned that "Godzilla" wasn't included in the original soundtrack. As a result, band members Eric Bloom and Dharma created their own parody titled "NoZilla" that was only played on the radio.

Christina Ricci's Ex Denied Emergency Custody of 11-Year-Old Son
According to documents obtained by People, Christina Ricci's ex-husband, James Heerdegen, has been denied emergency custody of their son.
Heerdegen apparently filed for emergency custody after his 11-year-old son, Freddie, texted him to inform him that Ricci was drinking on a flight to Canada. The Yellowjackets actress agreed that Freddie had contacted her ex and that she had consumed alcohol on a 16th June flight.
Documents from June 18 from an attorney state that Freddie admitted he "overreacted" in sending those text messages to his father, that Ricci's behaviour was not as he'd described it, and that he had no fear of being in her primary physical custody.
The 'Black Snake Moan' star asked for the documents, which include text messages between son and father, to be sealed due to Freddie's school bullying. The courts approved Ricci's request.

Ricci and Heerdegen wed in 2013 after they met on the set of the short-lived TV series Pam Am. They split in July 2020 and in January 2021, she obtained a domestic violence restraining order against her ex after accusing him of physical violence.
Heerdegen's attorney, Larry Bakman, said in a statement obtained by People that his client "unequivocally denies all allegations of abuse made by Ms Ricci as having occurred in 2020." As part of their divorce settlement, Ricci and Heerdegen agreed to share legal custody of their son, Freddie.
On Sunday, The Addams Family star paid tribute to her current husband, Mark Hampton, whom she married in 2021. "Happy Father's Day!!!!!! The best dad we could have ever hoped for," she wrote on Instagram for the holiday on Sunday, June 21.
The 46-year-old shared a sweet photo of her second husband with both Freddie and her and Hampton's 4-year-old daughter, Cleo. "I honestly didn't know they made them like you, babe," she added.

"I am super excited," he said of the reported million-dollar nuptials allegedly taking place during Fourth of July weekend in New York City. "She is a sweetheart, that is truly the girl next door."
"Just like Kylie," he added, referring to Jason's wife of eight years who also hosts the podcast Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also addressed the nuptials in a press conference last week when talking about other major events happening at the same time including the World Cup, America250 celebrations, and the New York Knicks in the finals.
"We are so excited to welcome the world here," he said. When asked if he was invited, he said, "No, I wish them a lovely wedding, I'll listen to 'Only the Young' at home my own at home."

Your Wallet Is About to Feel ItâHere's the New Inflation Number Everyone's Talking About
If you feel like prices are going up all around you, you may not be imagining things. That's because a new report shows that inflation is rising, driving up the prices of everyday items.
According to the latest report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which came out June 25, 2026, the metric that the government uses to measure inflation saw an increase in May that caused numbers to reach new heights that haven't been seen since 2023, thanks in large part to tariffs and the war in Iran. Here's what we know.
Here's the Number That Has Economists Paying AttentionThe report, released first thing Thursday morning, says the personal consumption expenditures index increased to 4.1 percent (year-over-year). This is the highest this number has climbed since April 2023.
NBC News says that when you strip some of the more volatile energy and food costs from that calculation, the true number is closer to 3.4 percent, marking a new high not seen since October 2023.
What Does This New Report Mean for Shoppers? When you hear the words "rising costs" and "inflation" used, you may immediately think that it's time to start pulling back on spending. However, NBC News notes that Americans still appear to be weathering the storm when it comes to higher costs, stating that overall spending rose 0.3 percent (after adjusting for inflation).
As for where that money is coming from, the publication says that Bank of America says that credit and debit card spending appears to have gone up in May as well. That means that while prices are going up, people are willing (and able) to spend a bit more money, even if they are having to put some of it on credit cards to cover the additional costs.
What This Means If You're Saving for RetirementIf you are retired or nearing retirement age, you may be worried about what this means for your golden years. According to Fidelity, if you are working with a financial planner, your retirement savings may already be built to weather this storm. That's because Fidelity says that its own Planning & Guidance Center assumes a 2.5 percent inflation rate when working on retirement goals.
The first way Fidelity suggests doing that involves diversifying. The second way includes investing in "inflation-resistant" options, like:
- Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS)
- International Stocks (when inflation seems to be specific to the U.S.)
- Commodity investments, like gas, aluminum, corn, or copper
"Even though inflation has been higher recently than what weâve become used to over the last couple of decades, the U.S. Federal Reserve believes that inflation is likely to gradually head lower over the coming years," Naveen Malwal, an institutional portfolio manager at Fidelity's Strategic Advisers LLC said in a statement on the company's website. "So you don't have to drastically change your allocations if they are already diversified."

So Long, Squats and LungesâThis Is the Pilates Exercise Instructors Use To Build Functional Strength in the Entire Body
If thereâs one crucial goal to focus on in your workouts, itâs building and maintaining functional strength. Pilates helps you do exactly that by strengthening your deep core muscles, enhancing postural alignment and addressing imbalances through mindful, full-body movements.
Building functional strength is essential, as it helps you tackle everyday tasks and activities with ease. Itâs not simply about sculpting a strong, toned body for aesthetics; itâs about being able to use all of your muscles and joints to push, pull, squat, twist, walk, climb stairs, play sports and keep up with your grandchildren.
According to Emma Stallworthy, Your Reformer co-founder and certified Pilates instructor, âFunctional strength means strength that translates directly into how your body moves in real lifeânot strength that only exists in a specific machine or under a specific load. Traditional gym training tends to build strength in isolated directions: leg presses build pushing strength, bicep curls build pulling strength. That's useful, but it doesn't train the coordination, stability and integration between muscle groups that everyday movement actually demands.â
Of course, there are plenty of ways to boost functional strength, like squats and lunges. But Pilates can be an even more productive option. This training method emphasizes movement patterns that channel daily tasks, such as reaching to get something out of a cabinet, twisting to scratch your back and bending down to tie your shoes.
âPilates builds what I'd call connected strengthâwhere your muscles understand how to work together, not just independently,â Stallworthy tells Parade.
So, move over, squats and lunges! We spoke with experts who share a simple yet incredibly effective Pilates exercise that instructors swear by to build functional strength.
đ©șSIGN UP for Paradeâs health newsletter with expert-approved tips, healthy eats, exercises, news & more to help you stay healthy & feel your best selfđ
The Best Pilates Move for Functional Strength, According to InstructorsInstructors agree that the Pilates âswimmingâ exercise is your golden ticket to building functional strength.
âSwimming is a cornerstone Pilates exercise for full-body functional strength, targeting the posterior chain (back, glutes, hamstrings). Done properly, swimming requires deep core stabilization to protect the spine,â explains Vanessa Johnson, NPCP, director of instructor training at Club Pilates.
The back of the body is often largely undertrained, which can cause back pain, poor posture and movement dysfunction. The swimming exercise addresses this head-on.
âOn the reformer, this posterior chain work gets loaded even further, but the mat version alone is one of the most effective full-body conditioning exercises in the Pilates repertoire,â notes Stallworthy.
Related: âIâm a Pilates InstructorâThese 5 At-Home Exercises Helped My Clients Lose Stubborn Weightâ
How To Do the Pilates âSwimmingâ ExerciseThis exercise may sound simple, but Stallworthy says itâs very demanding.
- Begin by lying flat on your stomach on the reformer or mat.
- Lift your head, chest and limbs off the surface, extending your arms ahead of you and your legs straight behind.
- Alternate lifting the opposite arm and leg, replicating a controlled âswimmingâ motion, all while keeping your spine long and stable.
Related: Pilates Instructors Say These 3 Moves Are the Fastest Way To See Results in Your Core
What Makes This Exercise So Effective for Improving Real-Life StrengthSwimming builds strength in the muscles that hold your body upright, drive movement in the shoulders and hips and support the spine. The alternating âswimmingâ motionâlifting the opposite arm and legâalso puts your balance and coordination to the test in a manner not many exercises do.
âYour core has to work constantly to prevent your lower back from arching or your hips from rotating,â Stallworthy says. âThe result is a body that moves more freely, stands taller and fatigues less easilyâwhich is exactly what functional strength should deliver.â
Related: 7 Simple Wall Pilates Exercises for Lean, Sculpted Arms After 50
How Often Should You Practice Pilates Swimming To See Results?Consistency reigns supreme over intensity. Lauren Keans, MFA, E-RTY 500, NCPT, recommends practicing Pilates swimming three to four times a week, even if in short intervals, for noticeable improvements in coordination, posture and strength. You can add this exercise to your warm-ups, core workout or Pilates practice.
âThe key is to focus on precision and control rather than speed or height of the limbs. Smaller, well-coordinated movements are far more effective than large, uncontrolled ones. As you progress, you can increase both speed and range of motionâas long as you maintain control,â Kearns says. âIn a fitness landscape that often prioritizes intensity and load, swimming is a reminder that how you move matters just as much as how hard you work and that true strength comes from integration, not just effort.â
Related: The Equipment-Free Move a Pilates Instructor Is Begging Every Woman Over 50 To Do in the Morning
Are Squats and Lunges Less Productive? In many instances, squats and lunges donât completely address the spinal extensors, posterior chain or the tiny stabilizing muscles that promote solid posture and joint health, explains Kearns.
âThey also donât challenge cross-body coordination in the same way that Pilates does,â she adds.
That said, squats and lunges have their place in a well-rounded fitness regimen. These moves fire up your quads, hamstrings and glutes. When you add dumbbells or kettlebells, they integrate your upper body, too, for stability while increasing demand on the core.
âIn terms of full-body strength, a loaded squat or lunge is genuinely effective,â Stallworthy tells Parade. âWhere Pilates takes a different approach is in the way the body is trained. Pilates prioritizes spinal mobility, postural alignment and the coordination between deep stabilizing muscles and the moving limbsâthings that weighted squats and lunges don't specifically target. Swimming, for example, trains the posterior chain while simultaneously requiring spinal control, opposite limb coordination and deep core stability in a way that's very hard to replicate with traditional lower body exercises.â
Overall, the benefits you reap from adopting a consistent Pilates practice canât be beat. This training method delivers what many individuals have been missing in their current fitness routine.

The steadily growing project has already produced tracks including "Fallin'," "This Town Ain't Small Enough," "Without You," "Hi Ho Silverado" featuring David Lee Murphy, "Overnight Low," "Helen Back," "Someone Else's Arms" and "Treading Whiskey."
Few artists have built a résumé quite like Paisley's. During nearly 25 years as one of country music's biggest stars, he has earned three Grammy Awards, 15 Academy of Country Music Awards, 14 Country Music Association Awards and 25 No. 1 singles. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 2001, became the first artist to score 10 consecutive No. 1 songs on Billboard's Country Airplay chart and was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Tickets for the remaining dates of the Brad Paisley Live Tour are available through Paisley's official website.

Country Star Makes History After No. 1 Hit Song Lasting 28 Weeks
Ella Langley has reached another career milestone after her blockbuster hit âChoosinâ Texasâ made country music history by spending a record-setting 28th week at No. 1 on Billboardâs Hot Country Songs chart.
The achievement makes Langley the longest-leading solo female artist in the history of the chart since it became Billboardâs main country songs ranking in 1958. The chart dated June 13 confirmed that âChoosinâ Texasâ surpassed the previous record held by Gabby Barrettâs âI Hope,â which dominated the ranking in 2020 and 2021.
The record-breaking run further cements Langleyâs status as one of country musicâs biggest stars. The song has remained at No. 1 since reaching the top in early December and continues to perform strongly across streaming, radio, and sales platforms.

The success of âChoosinâ Texasâ has extended far beyond country music.
Released as the lead single from Langleyâs second studio album, Dandelion, the song became her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for 10 non-consecutive weeks. It also topped charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand.
The track was co-written by Langley alongside Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert, and Joybeth Taylor. Langley also co-produced the song with Lambert and Ben West.
The Billboard achievement is only one part of what has become a landmark year for Langley.
The singer recently earned seven new Gold and Platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Among them were 4x Platinum certifications for both âChoosinâ Texasâ and âYou Look Like You Love Me,â while âWerenât for the Windâ received 3x Platinum status.
View this post on InstagramHer albums Hungover and Dandelion also reached Platinum certification.
Langley recently added another chart accomplishment when her single âBe Herâ secured a fourth week at No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart. The song became her longest-leading Country Airplay hit and tied for the longest-running Country Airplay No. 1 by a solo female artist since Taylor Swiftâs âOur Songâ spent six weeks at the top in 2007-08.
At the same time, Langley has maintained a remarkable presence on Billboardâs Hot Country Songs chart. For five consecutive weeks, she occupied the chartâs top three positions with âChoosinâ Texasâ at No. 1, âBe Herâ at No. 2, and âI Canât Love You Anymoreâ featuring Morgan Wallen at No. 3.
Away from the charts, Langleyâs popularity continues to grow through touring. The country star recently expanded her successful Dandelion Tour by adding 21 new dates across the United States.Â
The tour follows the release of her Platinum-certified album Dandelion and includes performances at major venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Los Angelesâ Greek Theatre.
Born in Hope Hull, Alabama, Langley spent years building her audience through touring and viral releases before breaking into the mainstream. Her debut album Hungover introduced her to a wider audience, but âChoosinâ Texasâ transformed her career.
Now, with a record-setting 28 weeks atop Billboardâs Hot Country Songs chart, multiple Platinum certifications, sold-out tour dates, and continued chart success, Langleyâs remarkable rise shows no signs of slowing down.

'70s Rocker Predicted 1977 Soft Rock Classic Would Hit No. 1 Before It Even Came Out
In 1977, Player released what would become their biggest hit single with âBaby Come Back.â
Written by Peter Beckett and J.C. Crowley, the breakup classic appeared on the British American bandâs 1977 self-titled debut album and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 14, 1978, remaining in the top spot for three full weeks.
Known for its opening guitar hook and harmonic chorus, âBaby Come Backâ was inspired by Beckett and Crowleyâs real-life heartbreaks. The song became a breakup anthem and remains a yacht rock favorite nearly 50 years later.
Which was no surprise to Beckett, who always knew it would be a hit.
In an interview with Rock Cellar magazine, Beckett shared that his âgreatestâ moment with the song came before it was even released, when he publicly announced that he knew it would be a smash hit.
âThe band was doing a âshowcase,â where we performed live on stage for a bunch of record executives in L.A.,â he recalled in 2022. âWe did a couple of songs, and then I walked up to the mic and said, a bit cocky, âWe are now going to do our first No. 1 hit for you.â I could feel the energy in the room change as I sang it.â
Beckett elaborated on his claim in an interview with Professor of Rock, where he noted that the music showcase was attended by âa whole bunch of producers,â including Al Coury, the co-founder of RSO Records, who ultimately signed Player.
âWe did about four songs, and this is true,â he shared. âWe'd never performed it electronically. Weâd always done it acoustically, and this was with a full band. And there's all these people in the room, and we did the first three songs, and I don't know what came over me. I just had this weird feeling, you know, and I walked up to the mic, and I said, âThis is a song. This is going to be our first number one record. It's called âBaby Come Back.â' And I started singing it, and it was like, you know, it felt just magical, and you could just feel the whole thing in the room. It was something special.â
Beckett noted that any time the band played the song before it was recorded, âmouths would drop and we knew we had something undeniable.â
He added that when the song first entered the Billboard charts at No. 80, it was almost more exciting than when it hit No. 1 weeks later.
Beckett told Rock Cellar he wrote âBaby Come Backâ with the intention of creating a hit, but that having it reach No. 1 changed âeverything.â The band opened for big-name acts such as Heart and Eric Clapton and appeared on all of the late-night music shows and popular talk shows of the late 1970s.
âBut I donât think anyone couldâve imagined it would stand the test of time as it has and be as recognizable now as it was 45 years ago,â the Player singer and guitarist added.

Inventor Behind the Biggest â90s Toy Phenomenon, Which Caused a Worker To Be Trampled, Dies at 78
Greg Hyman was an inventor who created one of the biggest toys to ever hit the market, Tickle Me Elmo. The toy started as a collaboration with Ron Dubren, who wanted to create a giggling plushie. Together, they created Tickles the Chimp. However, a Tyco executive believed the technology would work better with a popular character from Sesame Street.
However, since the company didnât have the proper license to create Sesame Street characters at first, Hyman started working on Tickle Me Taz instead, since the company did have a plush license for Looney Tunes characters.
Luckily, the company ended up acquiring the proper license to make Tickle Me Elmo possible. According to the Seattle Times, "What followed was retail mayhem. The first Tickle Me Elmos arrived in toy stores during the summer of 1996. Tyco initially produced 400,000, all of which were sold out by the day after Thanksgiving. As the company scrambled to make more, deploying Boeing 747s to deliver them, there were reports of frantic parents ambushing toy store employees and each other. A clerk at a Walmart in Canada was trampled by a scrum of shoppers as he unpacked a late-night shipment, suffering a broken rib and a concussion."
However, this wasnât the only popular toy that Hyman invented. He was also responsible for inventing Talking Barney, which was released in 1993, and Alphie the Robot, which was popular in the â80s.

According to his obituary, his love of inventing started when he was young. âGreg's interest in all sorts of electronics consumed his life early on,â the statement said. âGreg even offered his classmates lessons in how to invent. At 11 years old, he sold âRocket Shipâ rides in a discarded washing machine with a baby carriage cockpit. Other family lore stories are the exploding toilet set prank he played on Jean and the talking surplus WWII bomb used as a promotional curiosity at a local theater. As a kid, Greg had an entrepreneurial talent that grew from offering those inventing lessons to providing worms to avid fishermen.â
The statement went on to list out his many accomplishments: âHis work has earned several awards, including the 2007 Toy of the Year, Tickle Me Elmo TMX, an induction into the Hasbro Inventor's Hall of Fame for Baby All Gone, and recognition from Playskool for inventing Talking Barney, the largest-volume producing toy in a single year.â

As Hyman once stated, "To be an inventor is an honor. This country was founded on invention. There are no courses you can take to do this."
Hymanâs partner, Deborah Nelson, confirmed his death. However, the cause of death was not stated.
Fans of a Quietly Canceled NBC Drama Warned of a âBrilliantly Jaw-Dropping Cliffhanger'
As we close in on the last episode of Brilliant Minds, there are some concerning thoughts. The series was quietly canceled by NBC, and now many fans are worried about the way the final episode will unfold.
During his Inside Line post, Matt Webb Mitvoch has warned fans of a âbrilliantly jaw-dropping cliffhangerâ to end the series. Brilliant Minds hadnât planned to end with two seasons, and that is clear from the way it ends.
While the medical drama is still being shopped around, itâs concerning for many. The final episode will air on July 1, 2026. Cliffhangers are sometimes welcome, but not when there has been an abrupt cancellation. Now, fans know theyâre going to be left with questions that are unlikely to ever be answered. After all, saving a series is difficult, especially when the linear ratings dropped so severely from freshman to sophomore season.
Brilliant Minds has already left fans with a lot to deal with. After weeks of not really committing and failing to say âI love youâ back, Dana has found herself in the midst of a breakup. Thatâs the breakup that Mitvoch was mentioning in his Inside Line segment. As for the Josh/Wolf/Beau love triangle, things have stepped up with Beauâs marriage proposal, but which lane will Josh pick in the (for now) series finale?
Letâs not talk about the latest Sofia reveal at the end of the penultimate episode. Itâs clear that this series has more legs for a third season, but will it get a chance to deliver?
NBC made the decision back in May 2026 to cancel Brilliant Minds. It was a relatively quiet cancellation, as many feared the worst back in February. The medical drama was supposed to return after the Winter Olympics, but then the final six episodes were pushed to an undetermined later date. That date finally came at the end of the main TV season, pushing the final episodes into the summer, when shows historically see lower linear ratings.
The fight isnât over for the series just yet. Cast options usually expire at the end of June, so itâs possible that weâll get some final answers before the current series finale airs on July 1.

Olivia Wilde Reveals Where She Stands With Jason Sudeikis After Their Contentious Split
Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis are better off as friends than fiancés.
The Invite filmmaker shared an update on her relationship with her ex during an interview with The Cut published on Wednesday, June 24, revealing that their decision to split in 2020 following a seven-year engagement has ultimately been for the greater good.
"We're very, very, very different people who are certainly much better as friends and co-parents," Wilde, who shares son Otis and daughter Daisy with the Ted Lasso star, explained, adding that while an official custody agreement has the kids alternating weeks with each parent, they're able to keep that arrangement "flexible and fluid."
In fact, the Don't Worry Darling director said she even gave up one of her days with Daisy to let her watch soccer at a Brooklyn bar with her dad. "Jason sent me a picture of her sitting with Spike Lee and Mayor Mamdani, two people I revere," Wilde recalled. "I was like, 'F--k, yeah!'"
Wilde, 42, and Sudeikis, 50, got engaged in January 2013 after about two years of dating, going on to welcome their two children together before announcing their separation in November 2020. The breakup made headlines in the years that followed, with Wilde even receiving child custody papers from Sudeikis on stage at CinemaCon in 2022.
Now, Wilde said she's able to look back on the "bumpy, bumpy ride" that was the end of her relationship with the Saturday Night Livealum with more clarity, revealing on Call Her Daddy last week that the split helped inspire her new film, The Invite.
Wilde explained that "you can get to a place in a relationship where you stop engaging in the knowing of each other, in the curiosity about each other," adding, "And you find yourself in a place where you're like, 'I don't even know you.' And that was a point, that was when we realized it was over. And it was f---ing tough. And it brought us to the place of like, 'OK, this is done. We're going to end this.'"
