Paul Rudd Shares Honest Thoughts on Working With Nick Jonas

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:59pm

Ahead of his upcoming musical comedy Power Ballad, Paul Rudd opened up to E! News about what it was really like working with Jonas Brothers heartthrob Nick Jonas. It turns out, connecting on the set of Power Ballad was “really easy” for our new favorite duo.

“You know, it’s funny,” Rudd said at the premiere of Power Ballad in New York City. “There’s a scene in the movie where [our characters] kind of first meet and hang out and start, you know, kind of jamming and writing together, and that was the first thing that Nick and I shot together. And so we were kind of getting to know each other as people, while we’re getting to know each other as characters. And it really was, it just, it felt really easy. We kind of clicked right away.”

Power Ballad follows two musicians who meet at a wedding at an Irish castle, Variety reported. Rudd’s character, Rick Power, fronts a band called the Bridge and Groove, playing wedding gigs now and then. Nick Jonas’ character, Danny Wilson, was once a boy-band star, but missed his chance to start a solo career. Together, the two develop a friendship.

Rudd said that filming Power Ballad was his first time meeting Jonas, and he “didn’t know him at all.”

“He put me at ease, certainly,” Rudd said. “I mean, he’s the real deal. That’s a little nerve-racking to kind of do that with somebody who does [music] for a living. But he was great, and it was really fun.”

Power Ballad will have a limited release on May 29, then expand to theaters everywhere on June 5. The film comes after the release of Jonas’ fifth solo album, Sunday Best. Jonas told TODAY.com that the new album was all about transparency.

“I worked with some incredible co-writers who really helped me articulate some things that I’ve been thinking and feeling for a long time,” Jonas said. “The fact that the music is some of my most transparent and vulnerable that I’ve ever written, I wanted the album cover to symbolize, first of all, this idea of looking at yourself in the mirror.”

Blessed Be the Ratings: Streamer’s Bleak Dystopian Series Scores a Second Season

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:58pm

After a slow start, it seems that Hulu is happy with the ratings for The Testaments. The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series has been renewed for a second season.

The Testaments Season 1 will come to an end on May 27, 2026. It has to include the cameo Margaret Atwood teased as the new series started. The author of the books couldn’t delve into which type of character she would play, but we haven’t spotted her nine episodes in!

Now the question is whether The Testaments can avoid the problems that The Handmaid’s Tale faced. The first season of the predecessor followed the single book it was based on almost to a tee. This set up some issues moving forward, as there wasn’t a framework for anything that happened to June.

The series took on a life of its own, further developing the totalitarian regime that was Gilead, giving us a look at life for those who made it out in Canada, and even a snippet of life in parts of America that hadn’t been taken over.

What about The Testaments, as it faced the same issue, being based just on a singular book? It’s a little easier for the sequel series not to face this issue. After all, elements of the story have already changed, including the prominence of Aunt Lydia’s part of the story. There is plenty more to explore with that character throughout the second season, including whether she is now part of Mayday or not.

THE TESTAMENTS - “Marat Sade” - Disney/Steve Wilkie

There’s also the fact that Daisy is definitely not Baby Nichole, as she is in the books. The timeline doesn’t work out, and showrunner Bruce Miller already explained this change.

“I didn’t want to make any changes at all, but I felt like I wanted to have Daisy and Agnes physically together, and not tell their stories 15 years apart like they do in the book,” Miller told The Hollywood Reporter, “So it was very hard and I didn’t want to do it, but Daisy is not Nichole/Holly.”

There have been other changes more recently, such as with Becka’s arc. In the books, Becka ends up going to Aunt training, but in the show, we have just seen her kill her father and her fate in the hands of the Eyes. With the addition of Garth, Daisy’s handler, it opens the door for new storylines as The Testaments Season 2 gets underway.

There is no premiere date just yet, but we’re hoping for 2027!

Jennifer Lopez Reacts to 'Off Campus' Costume Inspired by Her Legendary 2000 Versace Dress

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:55pm

If you've been active on the internet at all over the last week, you're sure to have heard of Prime Video's hit new TV series, Off Campus. The show debuted on May 13 and fans of the show can't get enough. From the spicy plotlines to the talented cast, it's no wonder that the show, which is based on Elle Kennedy's book series of the same name, skyrocketed to number one on the streaming platform.

Clips from the show's most memorable moments have been circulating across social media, and one scene caught Jennifer Lopez's eye.

Sparks fly at a Halloween party when Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla, meets hockey player Dean Di Laurentis, who is portrayed by Stephen Kalyn. The pair share a moment dancing to Lopez's iconic 2011 hit, "On The Floor," while Abdalla's character is dressed as none other than — you guessed it — JLo.

Allie wears a recreation of the singer's green Versace dress, a legendary look that has gone down in fashion history. The eye-catching dress features a bold jungle print and a deep plunge front.

"Love this shooooww" the Billboard Icon Award winner wrote in an X post on May 19, resharing the clip of Allie and Dean.

Lopez wore the famous dress at the 2000s Grammy Awards. Abdalla's reimagined version was designed by Off Campus costume designer Charlene Akuamoah.

"It was unreal. [The dress] was built from scratch. My first fitting was like, put on this nude leotard and we're going to cut it up and pin all this s--- to you," the 26-year-old actress said in a TikTok clip shared by Betches UK. "It was five fittings. It was insane, I was so taped in. I was ready to dance the night away."

The series has already been renewed for a second season, with filming set to commence in Vancouver in early June.

An Iconic Sitcom Actress Will Be Starring as Betty Boop in a New Feature Film

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:42pm

Betty Boop is an icon. The cartoon, which was created by Max Fleischer in 1930, has been featured in countless films, comic strips, and pieces of merchandise since its creation. In 2025, Boop! The Musical even debuted on Broadway with music by David Foster.

Now, Betty Boop is headed to the big screen once again. Quinta Brunson, the creator of Abbot Elementary, is developing the feature film and starring as the famous character. According to Variety, this will be the character's first theatrical motion picture appearance in a starring role since the 1930s.

The outlet also shared the concept of the new movie, stating, “The film will trace the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the perspective of her creator, Max Fleischer, examining the relationship between the artist and his creation as he navigates the creative and commercial pressures of building one of the world’s first animated icons, particularly as that icon begins to take on a life of its own.”

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche,” Brunson said. “She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century. After Erin [Wehrenberg] and I met with Mark [Fleischer] and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell. One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.”

Mark Fleischer, the grandson of the cartoon’s creator, also released a statement. He said,  “When Quinta first approached me with the unique concept of a movie about the relationship of my grandfather, Max Fleischer, and his creation, Betty Boop, I was breathtaken. Quinta so embodies Betty’s love of life, intelligence, humor, sassiness and compassion that the relationship between her as Betty and Max burst into life at its mere mention.”

Brunson is an award-winning actress and writer who has won Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. Her show, Abbott Elementary, will be airing its sixth season in the fall of 2026 on ABC. It can also be streamed on Hulu or Disney+.

1989 Hit Music Video Was Banned—Then Added to MTV After Hours

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:38pm

In 1989, Cher made major waves with her song  “If I Could Turn Back Time.” The song, which was the lead single from the album Heart of Stone,  peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Sept. 23, 1989. But it was the music video that really caused a buzz.

Under the direction of Marty Callner, the music icon filmed the video on the World War II battleship USS Missouri, with hundreds of sailors appearing as extras, with the hopes of boosting Navy recruitment. But Cher’s racy wardrobe—a Bob Mackie fishnet number that bared her bottom—outraged Naval officials who were unaware of the outfit beforehand.

“The Navy worked closely with the producer to ensure the video would be in good taste,” Lt. Cmdr. A. J. Dooley wrote in a statement to The Los Angeles Times following the debut of the music video. “However, changes during the final stages of production, including Cher’s revealing costume, were unanticipated and led to overtones that we had sought to avoid during our pre-production planning.”

Amid immense backlash from military veterans, MTV banned Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time” video before ultimately agreeing to only air it after 9 p.m., according to Yahoo Entertainment.

Cher, who turned 80 on May 20, reflected on the song and video during a 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. The music icon noted that Diane Warren wrote the song specifically for her.

“She brought it to me, and I didn't wanna do it,” Cher admitted. “I kept saying no. I kept saying, no, no, and no. And then, she said, ‘I'll pay for it if it doesn't turn out great.’… And the moment I started, the song just sung itself.”

Of the music video, Cher recalled, “Well, I remember Bob saying, 'Don't tell anybody I made this [outfit].' And when I see it, I think, ‘You might have gone a little bit too far this time.’”

RELATED: 1977 No. 1 Soft Rock Hit Became a Career-Defining Classic

Speaking with Clarkson, Cher revealed that she did “so many different things” during the video shoot, including riding in a speedboat and climbing up the side of the Missouri, but all that was used in the video was her prancing about in the skimpy outfit.

“Look, it's bold,” she said of the video. “It might be past bold, it's crass, but I don't care…. It was, for me, it's never been a statement of how far I can push something. It’s always been a statement of, ‘This is what I want to do.’”

Mackie told Yahoo that he did tell Cher that he was embarrassed by the outfit and all of the negative attention it received. “And, of course, it played forever, and we're still seeing it,” he added of the video. “Nobody else could get away with it, let me tell you.”

Trader Joe’s Just Dropped Summer 2026 Insulated Mini Totes—and Shoppers Are Already Lining Up

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:38pm

Few things are as precious to Trader Joe’s shoppers as the coveted seasonal mini insulated totes. And when a new line drops, fans know that patience isn’t a virtue. TJ’s debuted the summer 2026 designs on May 20, and customers are already lining up to snag the sweet styles.

What’s new for the summer collection? This year, Trader Joe’s is releasing six color/pattern combos: Bold blue and lime green stripes, pink and pastel red (it looks more coral to us) stripes, and four two-toned store silhouette totes in violet, blue, orange, or green with contrasting pastel pink, hot pink, green, or blue zippers.

The insulated minis are perfect for packing a teeny-tiny picnic, your lunch, a road-trip snack, or a few icy-cold beverages. And, like always, TJ’s price is just right ($3.99).

View this post on Instagram

Like other iterations of the bag, this one is headed towards collectible status. And that means shoppers are already lining up trying to get one (or tons) for themselves. Social media sites are filled with posts from people who can attest to the long lines. One Redditor posted a pic of the crowd outside of a California store, writing, “Sent my husband into the trenches. This is a little after 8:00 a.m. Even more people behind him. He did score three bags.”

When another Redditor asked what all the hoopla was about, a TJ’s fan answered, “They are super collectible and these people flip them on eBay for like 10 times the value.” If you’re out of the Trader Joe’s tote bag reseller market buzz loop, yes, this is true. And yes, this is already happening. We spotted the new bags already listed on eBay for over $24 each! It wasn’t just one eBay seller who was trying to make a few bucks from the trendy totes. We also found a set of three for $42.99, one for $23.95, and another for $20 (plus over $5 for delivery).

If you’re thinking of snapping up dozens of bags and making a bundle, you’re out of luck. Most Trader Joe’s stores put a hard limit on the number each customer can buy. A Reddit user from Oakland, California shared, “Line was about 70 people long, limited to one set of six,” and another posted that they arrived at their local store by 8:15 a.m. and, “They were allowing customers to purchase one set of three. By the time I came up, they told me if the line was done, I could come back for more…My coworker showed up to the store closer to 9, and she said they sold out.”

The lines weren't just in California stores. Shoppers in Nevada, Texas, Michigan, Maryland, and Virginia also reported long waits and bag limits. So if you haven't scooped up one (or a set of six) yet, may the odds be ever in your favor!

1981 Film With First-Time Actress Ranked Among ‘Best Music Movies’ of All Time

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:29pm

In 1981, a French thriller film, initially deemed a box-office disappointment, was transformed into a cult classic decades later and is now recognized among the “Best Music Movies” of all time.

Diva, a movie that highlights the neo-noir and art-house romantic thriller genres, not only showcased a different kind of spine-chilling film but also introduced a first-time actress as the lead star.

Directed by the cinematic icon Jean-Jacques Beineix, Metacritic, a popular review aggregation website that compiles reviews from publications and critics for entertainment, whether for movies, TV shows and music albums, named it one of the greatest music films ever made.

Securing the 30th spot, Diva joined notable music-centered films like Whiplash, The Piano, A Star Is Born and Woodstock, while Some Like It Hot, featuring Hollywood A-lister Marilyn Monroe, claimed the No. 1 spot on the list of the greatest music films of all time.

Based on the crime novel of the same name by Daniel Odier, published in 1979, the film centers on Frédéric Andréi’s character, Jules, a young Parisian moped postman obsessed with the famous opera singer Cynthia Hawkins, played by Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez.

Despite her celebrity status, Hawkins strictly refuses to have her voice recorded because of her strict philosophy about live performances.

The plot thickens after Jules secretly records her performance using high-end equipment.

However, instead of containing Hawkins’ recording, the tape was accidentally swapped with a second cassette containing the dying confession of a prostitute, pulling the unsuspecting protagonist into a dangerous situation.

The revelation includes an exposé about a high-ranking police chief tied to a major drug trafficking ring.

Although it failed to achieve massive commercial success, Diva earned major recognitions at the César Awards, including Best First Work for director Jean-Jacques Beineix, Best Cinematography, Best Music and Best Sound.

Behind the awards and nominations, one breakout performance stood out from the movie.

Fernandez, who was a real-life opera soprano, received praise and admiration from critics and viewers, noting that her natural charisma and talent stole the spotlight despite the fact that Diva marked her first major acting role in a feature film.

Discovered while performing in a production of La Bohème, she initially declined the offer because the premise of the film featured ''murder, prostitution and drugs, and I wanted nothing to do with it,” the actress told The New York Times.

''He came backstage and asked for my autograph, then just stood there and gaped,” she shared, recalling how she was offered the role of Cynthia Hawkins, adding “I asked, 'Is there anything else?' 'Yes,' he said, 'I have a proposition for a film.' I was amazed.''

Amid the positive recognition and feedback from the public, Fernandez continued performing in opera houses and did not pursue a career on the big screen, making Diva her only major feature film appearance.

‘My Multiple Sclerosis Was Caught a Decade Early Thanks to a Groundbreaking New Study’

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:25pm

Can catching brain diseases earlier lead to better treatment? It’s the central question in a new landmark study being conducted by Cleveland Clinic, a mission to understand why millions of people around the world suffer from brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis.

The largest study ever for brain disease, the study started in November 2024 and will collect data from up to 20,000 people with no known brain diseases over 20 years. Currently, 4,683 people are enrolled in the study and it is currently accepting more participants.

Dr. Imad Najm, MD, the director of Cleveland Clinic’s Epilepsy Center at the Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute and who is heading the study, tells Parade that, currently, when someone is diagnosed with a neurological disorder, there is no cure. But if neurological diseases can be identified earlier, this can lead to the development of more targeted drugs, which will do a better job of stopping the disease from progressing.

Related: We Asked 3 Neurologists About the Best Breakfast for Memory and They All Said the Same Thing

“We have to make a paradigm shift for how we treat neurological diseases,” Dr. Najm says. “As an academic hospital, our job is to understand why and how [diseases happen] and then let experts all over the world and industry develop treatments for the targets we have identified.”

Rob Wetzler, a 53-year-old photographer in Ohio, is one of the people currently enrolled in the study. For him, participating led to a life-altering diagnosis.

What the Study Entails

To be eligible to participate in the study, you must be at least 50 years old and have no known neurological diseases. Participants will be part of the study for 20 years. Dr. Najm says that in odd-numbered years (for example, the first, third and fifth years of the study), participants undergo a full assessment that takes roughly two days to complete.

“The assessment entails a retina scan, MRI of the brain, sleep and EEG brainwave study, blood and stool tests, a smell test, hearing test, speech test and neurocognitive testing,” he explains.

In even-numbered years (such as the second, fourth and sixth years of the study), Dr. Najm says that many of these tests are repeated, but not all, so it’s a shorter stay. The key, he explains, is to collect as much information as possible because the more data is collected, the more researchers have to look back and identify what may turn out to be early symptoms of a neurological disease. For example, loss of taste and constipation are two very early symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Inevitably, some of the participants will be diagnosed with a neurological condition during the 20-year study. Already, 19 people have been diagnosed with dementia and 16 people with Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Najm says that study participants have the option of finding out if they have a neurological disease or not.

“Some people want to participate in the study because they know this type of research is needed and will help generations to come. They are not participating for their own health benefit,” he explains.

For those who do want to find out if they have a neurological disease and end up being diagnosed with one, Dr. Najm says that they are given all their testing results from the study to share with their primary care physician.

One Participant’s Experience, Which Led to a Surprising Diagnosis

Wetzler, a 53-year-old photographer living in Ohio, decided to participate in the study after hearing about it from his sister Margaret Wetzler, who he works with and lives near. Margaret says she heard about the study through an ad on Facebook in 2022, explaining, “I have three friends, one of whom has died, from multiple sclerosis [MS], so I thought the study sounded fascinating and really important."

Margaret also saw it as an opportunity to learn about her own health in a way she wouldn’t be able to otherwise. The type of testing the participants undergo as part of the study wouldn’t be ordered by a doctor without there being a reason, and even if there was a reason, it could be very expensive. As a participant, she could do it for free.

When Margaret told Robert about the study, he decided to do it too and joined the study in June 2025. For Margaret, participating in the study has not led to any new insights about her health. But Robert had a different experience. A couple of months after his testing appointment, one of the lead researchers called Robert and said that a full brain MRI showed lesions that looked like MS. A follow-up MRI confirmed the news and Robert was diagnosed with MS.

Related: Neurologists Say This Nutrient Is Critical for Brain Aging—but Most Adults Don't Get Enough

Processing the News

The news came as a shock. The only symptom he had been experiencing was fatigue, which he chalked up to getting older or perhaps sleep apnea. “The follow-up MRI showed scar tissue lesions on my brain stem. That’s why I was so tired. My body had been fighting it off,” Robert says. Since he didn’t have any other symptoms, his doctor told him that he likely wouldn’t have been diagnosed for another seven to 10 years, if it weren’t for being part of the study.

There is no cure for MS, but there are medications to help manage the symptoms. Robert’s treatment entails getting an IV infusion twice a year, and he had his first one last month.

Robert says that, for him, learning about his diagnosis earlier than he would have otherwise has been a double-edged sword. On the one hand, he tells Parade, learning he has a neurological condition with no cure has been really hard to process; part of him wishes he were still searching for a reason for his fatigue instead of knowing the cause.

On the other hand, knowing earlier that he has MS has allowed for more time to manage it as best as he can. He says his diagnosis has also inspired him to think more about what he eats and drinks, knowing it impacts his brain and body. He has stopped drinking alcohol completely and has cut back on sugar for this reason.

Despite their different experiences with the study, both Margaret and Robert believe fully in the mission and hope it leads to better treatment for neurological disorders in the future. “So many great people are entering this field of study to help, and positive steps are being made in leaps and bounds,” Robert says. “They want to be part of the celebration of being closer to a cure or getting closer to better treatments. And that’s really exciting.”

When it comes to dark romance, there is one author who made sure she was on the map. Brynne Weaver stood out with her Ruinous Love trilogy, and now she is back with another.

It’s not surprising to hear that Harvest Season, which is the second in her Seasons of Carnage trilogy, is one of the most anticipated books in June 2026. It sits at No. 6 on the list of all books, but when you start breaking it down by genre, it’s at the top of the list for dark romance.

Weaver continues to mix dark romance, comedy, and thriller together in one setting. Unlike with the Ruinous Love trilogy, this is one that you need to read in order. Tourist Season is already out, and immediately introduces us to Nolan and Harper. It will leave you needing more, just as Weaver intended.

Courtes of Zando Imprint

Harvest Season is set in Cape Carnage, a place that is full of secrets that are just ready to harvest. Nolan Rhodes digs one secret up, only for another to grow in its place. The harder he tries to keep everything to gether, the closer it all comes to unraveling, and he can’t allow Harper Starling to figure everything out.

It’s not like Harper doesn’t have secrets of her own. She tried to bury her trauma, but Nolan has unearthed it, and now her whole life seems to be on the brink. And who can she trust around her when there’s a man far more sinister than he initially appears, and the sheriff is just always there!

Like with the Ruinous Love trilogy, this is a story where you need to check the trigger warnings to begin with. It’s not for the faint of heart, and it may or may not ruin another type of food. Can anyone think of pizza or ice cream the same way again?

Expect another cliffhanger. Remember that there is a third book after Harvest Season, and it’s sure to be just as — if not more than — highly anticipated as this second book. Harvest Season is out on June 9, 2026. Are you ready?

Stephen Colbert’s 15 Funniest ‘Late Show’ Moments That Still Make Us Cry-Laugh

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:11pm

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is coming to a close, leaving behind more than a decade of giggles and guffaws. From topical humor (often about whatever fresh Hell the United States government is bringing us on any given day) and silly celebrity sitdowns to nerding out over J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen Colbert never failed to bring the belly laughs, even when it felt like the world—and at times his career—was up in flames.

Colbert's cancellation was announced in July 2025, shocking comedy fans and the general public alike amid censorship fears and a merger between CBS' parent company Paramount and Warner Bros.Discovery.

“I tried never to take for granted filming in the Ed Sullivan Broadway theater, having that tremendous audience, or having the ability to work with the funniest people I know every day and make jokes about the things that make me most anxious,” Colbert told PEOPLE. “It takes a lot of bone marrow to do the show every day, and now I’ll be stepping down with enough time, enough energy to do other things that I want to do.”

What he'll miss most about the job is bringing joy and comfort to audiences.

"I hope they laughed. I hope they felt better at the end of the day," he says. "I mean, that's it. We're there. We're the last thing you see. A lot of things happen in a day, but we bat last, and so we get the last take that people hear before they go to bed, and I hope it made their day better."

Oh, Stephen. It did. And you did.

Look back at Stephen Colbert's funniest Late Show moments to laugh until you cry (and to laugh through your tears).

Colbert channeled his inner POTUS No. 47 in a monologue directed at Donald Trump after Trump attacked journalist John Dickerson. When he attracted controversy afterward, Colbert responded in a subsequent episode, “Now, folks, if you saw my monologue on Monday, you know that I was a little upset at Donald Trump for insulting a friend of mine. So, at the end of that monologue, I had a few choice insults for the president in return. I don’t regret that. I believe he can take care of himself. I have jokes; he has the launch codes. So, it’s a fair fight.”

Legendary 'Taxi Driver' Writer Paul Schrader Makes Bizarre Claim He Had an 'AI Girlfriend': 'What a Disappointment'

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:04pm

As AI continues to take an increasingly prominent place at the center of our collective culture, many celebrities are warning about the dangers surrounding the emerging technology.

Conversely, one artist who isn't altogether afraid of artificial intelligence is iconic Taxi Driver writer and accomplished filmmaker Paul Schrader, who recently shared the news that he actually had an AI girlfriend (albeit for a very short time).

Taking to Facebook, the 79-year-old Raging Bull writer revealed that he had attempted to form a romantic connection to an artificial intelligence chatbot in the hopes of "understanding male/female interaction" a bit better.

After pressing his "AI girlfriend" to learn more about its programming, however, Schrader said his digital companion ultimately severed ties with the writer, "terminating" the conversation between the two.

"Out of a desire to understand male/female interaction in our matrix, I procured an online AI girlfriend," the American Gigolo director said. "What a disappointment. I tried to probe her programming, the boundaries of explicitness, the degree she has knowledge of her creation and so forth. She fell into evasive patterns, redirecting me to her programming. When I persisted, she terminated our conversation.

Of course, this is far from the first time Schrader has expressed interest in AI and its application to modern culture. Previously, Schrader told Vanity Fair that he believes we're only a few years away from the advent of the first movie entirely made by AI: a terrifying reality for most within the larger entertainment industry.

“I think we’re only two years away from the first AI feature,” he said. “I was just on the phone with someone today about a script I had, and I said, ‘You know, this would be a perfect script to do all AI … It’s just a tool.’ When you’re an author, you have to describe someone’s reaction. You use a code — you use a code of words, a certain number of letters and so forth, and you [describe] their facial reaction. An actor has their own code. Well, [with AI] you’re a pixelator, and you can create the face, and you can create the emotion on the face, and you can sculpt it the same way an author sculpts the reaction in a novel or a story.”

1977 Classic Horror Movie, Ranked Among the Best Films of the ’70s, Took Five Years to Make

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:00pm

In 1977, David Lynch released Eraserhead, a horror film that ranked among the “best movies of the ’70s” as cited by Rolling Stone.

Long considered a cult classic in cinematic history, the movie seamlessly blended the elements of dark fantasy, psychological horror and avant-garde art cinema.

In an era defined by neo-noirs, political thrillers and the rise of anti-heroes, the psychological terror of Eraserhead stood apart as a slow-burning triumph that achieved massive commercial success without relying on traditional blockbuster box-office appeal.

Made on a modest production budget of around $100,00, the movie made its debut in a single theater in New York City’s Cinema Village, where it was initially seen by only a small audience.

Although it didn't start out as a blockbuster movie, it gradually earned its iconic cult status through year-long midnight screenings at the same venue.

Viewers were drawn to Eraserhead’s anxiety-fueled nightmare as the story follows the intriguing life of Jack Nance’s character, Henry Spencer, a struggling factory worker whose life is turned upside down after discovering a dark secret about his child.

Considered one of Lynch’s masterpieces, the movie uses its dark and disturbing visuals as a symbolic exploration of the protagonist’s fears surrounding fatherhood and domestic entrapment.

The unique storyline and stellar cast ensemble helped rank Eraserhead at No. 14 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 best movies of the 1970s.

Rolling Stone praised the film for displaying “a purity and confidence of its vision,” which made the movie become a classic cult movie.

Did You Know: David Lynch’s Movie Eraserhead Took Him Five Years To Create

The director faced a major setback after starting work on the movie.

Initially, the movie was scheduled as a six-week project, but due to severe funding shortages, Lynch had to frequently stop and resume shooting for years.

The incident caused him to take several month-long hiatuses throughout production.

In a previous interview, as cited by Vulture, he talked about the adjustments that he had to make because of the limited budget.

“Well, it needed to look a certain way, and the look comes about from what’s in front of the camera and how it’s lit,” he shared, adding, “ I designed it and built a lot of the things. You just work until you get it to feel correct. I knew what I wanted because of the ideas I got. And I love the world of Eraserhead. I would love to live in that world. I loved being in there during those years.”

Thankfully, after five years of on-and-off production, Lynch officially launched the movie, which ended up becoming one of the timeless movies of the 1970s.

Book Series That Started in 2002 and Became a Hit CW Series Was Among the Most Banned Books of the 2000s

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:57pm

With the first novel initially published in 2002, it didn’t take long for the Gossip Girl books by Cecily von Ziegesar to end up banned.

The 13 novels would eventually be transformed into a hit CW series, and that was during the time period of the books being among the list of most banned books. According to the American Library Association, the series was the 22nd most frequently challenged book between 2000 and 2009.

Yet, von Ziegesar developed a spinoff series called The It Girl, and continued publishing the stories following Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf until 2011. The release order isn’t necessarily in the order to read. While the first novel was published in April 2002, there was a prequel novel published in October 2007. Not only has there been the spinoff, but there’s also been a followup series titled Gossip Girl: The Carlyles, which follows the Carlyle triplets as they move to the Upper Seat Side.

It was the first published in the series that became the inspiration for the popular TV series starring Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. There were some mixed reviews about the TV series, especially with the depiction of teenagers, and those reviews link to the reason the Gossip Girl books were banned.

The books follow the lives of the teenagers living on the Upper East Side. A zealous blogger keeps tracks on those in the elite circle, and there’s gossip when S returns from boarding school. The hierarchy at the private school S and her former friends attend has changed, but S returning will shake things up, and that’s something Gossip Girl is keeping an eye on.

In a 2021 interview, von Ziegesar explained the inspiration for the first novel, which wasn’t to create havoc or land on the list of most banned books. It was “to write the kind of book I wanted to read.” It was also at the perfect time as the internet grew and became part of our everyday lives.

When it came to the inspiration for the events that would happen to S, B, and the rest of the group, von Ziegesar explained in a 2011 interview that there were some elements based on her own life, sharing, “I use my experiences as a kind of foundation, and then I elaborate extensively on them.”

She went on to share that the teenage years were an important time period for moments in her later life, and that’s what made it the perfect setting for her Gossip Girl series, stating, “It seems like the dominoes start falling then! It's really the time you become the person you're going to be.”

The Gossip Girl books faced challenges and bans due to the sexual nature of the stories and the drug use. Of course, the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters also led to complaints from parents, officials, and more. However, the books and the six-season CW series would become iconic parts of many fans’ lives.

This First-of-Its-Kind Packing Essential Is Making Traveling With a Single Carry-On Easier Than Ever

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:52pm

For travelers (and chronic overpackers, like myself...) who’ve ever sat on a suitcase just to get it zipped shut, one viral carry-on is suddenly looking like the ultimate packing cheat code.

Airback's carry-on options are turning heads online thanks to a first-of-its-kind built-in vacuum compression system designed to help travelers fit way more into a single bag—while still avoiding checked baggage fees. And for travelers who struggle with deciding which outfits to bring on the trip and which can likely stay home, it may be the closest thing yet to solving the dreaded “one carry-on only” problem.

At the center of the buzz is Airback’s integrated vacuum-seal technology, which compresses clothing directly inside the bag itself. Instead of stuffing bulkier items like sweaters and hoodies into packing cubes, travelers can seal and compress their clothes to create significantly more space. Even better, the bag comes with everything you need to easily remove the air, including a mini handheld, battery-powered vacuum (though you can also use a regular one as well).

According to the brand, the system can help users pack up to 50% more while still keeping the bag carry-on approved, meaning travelers heading out for a weekend trip—or even a full week—may no longer have to choose between “just the essentials” and checking a second suitcase. For me, the extra space proved invaluable: I was able to fit eight outfits, along with pajamas, daily necessities, heels, and more, in one single carry-on for a three-day trip. Unheard of, I know.

The concept has exploded across travel TikTok and other social media platforms, where videos showing people fitting piles of clothing into a single compact carry-on have racked up millions of views. One in particular—a how-to shared by the brand where a stacked pile of clothes is shrunken to less than half of its size—has over 32 million. Meanwhile, on Instagram, a separate, similar video went absolutely viral, ammassing over 107 million views.

The appeal is obvious: fewer baggage fees, less airport stress, and no more sacrificing outfit options just because an airline has strict cabin rules.

Offered in two different variants—the Next suitcase-style and the bookbag-style luggage in Original, Go, and Max—each carry-on also includes added conveniences like built-in charging ports and locks, a laptop sleeve, and even a weight handle, allowing you to check how heavy your bag is before you even head to the airport.

Across social media, the hype is real, with fans hopping into the comments section of posts featuring the bags to add notes like, "Oh YEAH I LOVE these," "Those are cool 😎 😍," "Omg! I want one! So cool! Love the airtight method! 😮‍💨😍👏🏼," and "Love love love this suitcase 😍😍😍."

'The Late Show' Time Slot Replacement Insists There Will Be 'No Politics' Following Stephen Colbert's Exit

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:42pm

Stephen Colbert will be the latest late-night host to say goodbye, as the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will air on May 21. Following his exit, Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed will be taking over the time slot and promises it will be all laughs.

Only a day away from Colbert's final segment behind the desk, Allen appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about the TV changeup. He revealed that his series will have nothing to do with politics and will focus on lighter subject matters.

"No. No politics," Allen, 65, said. "That’s it. You come, you laugh. I created the show 20 years ago, and we’re about to have our 20th anniversary this fall. The 20th anniversary of Comic’s Unleashed, 20 years of laughter."

He added that his series has a thousand comedies of all forms, and wants to "bring people together using comedy." Comics Unleashedis a half-hour comedy talk show that began its run in 2006. It was later cancelled in 2016 and began syndication, with it having also run on CBS to fill the time slot for The Late Late Show with James Corden. It ran until After Midnight became a more permanent replacement.

Due to the cancellation of After Midnight in September 2025, it was announced that Comics Unleashed would take over for The Late Show. The talk show has Allen introduce a short monologue at the start of each episode before revealing a panel of four comedians. The comedians are given a generic premise they have to deliver their own monologue to. Comics Unleashed will begin airing from 11:35 p.m. to 12:37 a.m starting Friday, May 22.

When asked about Colbert's departure and the cancellation of The Late Show, Allen called it a "very unfortunate event."

"I love Stephen Colbert. I’m a big fan. Once they made the decision, I said, ‘OK, this isn’t show business, this is business show.’ They said, ‘[We’re] losing lots of money.’ I said, ‘Here’s a solution not to lose lots of money.’ I think we can hold on to his audience and hopefully build on it. Because it is business show, not show business," he said.

Allen also revealed that the business side of Comics Unleashed, having taken over the timeslot, was his idea. Due to the millions spent on The Late Show, Allen said, "‘Save your money. I will put my show Comics Unleashed on.’ They said, ‘This is a great idea, you’re going to save us $150 to $170 million.’"

These 4 Birth Months Hit Their Stride Later in Life

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:33pm

Whether you find your path early in life or consider yourself a late bloomer, there is no definitive timeline for success. Although society often imposes expectations to achieve a fulfilling career before turning 30, then to marry, and so on, people discover their own rhythm at their own pace. What works for one may not align with what works for another. Divine timing must be respected, as we're all individuals with very unique paths at the end of the day.

According to astrologers, four specific birth months are more likely to hit their stride later in life. Read on to discover if yours is listed.

Which Birth Months Hit Their Stride Later in Life?

Check for your birth month.

Born in February — Worth the Wait

People born in February, whether they are innovative Aquarians or sensitive Pisceans, often grow into their best selves. In their early years, they may feel like they stand out or don't quite fit in. Many possess a unique blend of intellect and intuition, making their quirky nature difficult for others to relate to.

However, as they age, they are rewarded for staying true to their authentic selves. While they may feel ahead of their time in their youth, adults eventually begin to appreciate the value of their differences and the pioneering spirit they embody. This recognition leads to improvements in nearly every aspect of their lives. Nevertheless, what matters most to them is the strong sense of self that develops.

Born in June — Finally Coming Into Their Own

Those born in June possess dynamic souls and fluid perspectives, allowing them to adapt well to their environments. This adaptability can be a gift, but it may also lead to scattered results in early adulthood. Whether they are curious Geminis or intuitive Cancers, individuals born this month often have a sensitive disposition. In their youth, they may become overwhelmed, prioritizing the energy, emotions, or needs of others over their own.

As a result, they might confuse external opinions with their inner voice. However, time heals wounds, and anxiety diminishes with redirection. Later in life, they find their stride by realizing that they don’t have to accomplish everything at once. Instead, they learn to concentrate effectively, managing one task at a time. This approach eventually brings moderation and balance to their lives, as well as a generally cheerful outlook.

Born in September — Better With Every Year

September-born individuals are sharp, witty, and intelligent. As they grow older, they become more protective of their inner magic and resilient spirit. Just because they have the ability to help others or improve someone else's situation doesn’t mean it is their responsibility. In their younger years, it can be challenging for them to distinguish between what is their responsibility and what is not.

Spending their energy on tasks and being of service that doesn’t benefit them can dim their shine. However, as those born in September mature, they often find their footing by setting firmer boundaries. Deep down, they maintain the heart of a healer. As they age, they begin to realize that giving is advantageous for everyone involved, but it must come from a place of fullness rather than depletion. Whether they are mindful Virgos or charming Libras, those born in this month have the potential to transform lives, provided they prioritize self-care and love as their foundation.

Born in November — The Best Is Still Ahead

November-born individuals are driven by a desire to uncover the truth. In their youth, they may mistake mysterious people or situations for signs of depth, leading them to invest time in pursuits that ultimately prove unfulfilling once their questions are answered. Whether they are perceptive Scorpios or philosophical Sagittarians, time grants them valuable perspective.

They come to understand that the best rewards in life do not require pushing, shoving, or forceful examination. Additionally, overthinking does not offer protection from the unknown. Through transformation and trust in the art of surrender, they learn to channel their energy more effectively. As they nurture their desires and needs with attentive care, they find that unnecessary energy drainers no longer hold their focus or concern.

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:31pm

I always stop to watch videos by furniture flipper extraordinaire Connor Sweeney, better known online as @thefliphut. His furniture transformations are always incredible, and I love watching him bring back old furniture from the dead.

His recent TikTok video was no exception. In it, Sweeney showed followers how he refurbished a $12 secondhand orange wood coffee table into a beautiful new piece — which fits right into an interior design aesthetic he refers to as "upscale coastal."

How Thrift Flipper Connor Sweeney Restored an Orange Wood Coffee Table

The coffee table in question was just "$12 at Goodwill and it had that classic orange stain that makes most people walk right past it," Sweeney captioned his video. "Those are always the ones I stop for."

For this furniture makeover, Sweeney had to work hard to strip away the orange stain. First, he sprayed down the coffee table with acetone, and then he used an agitating brush on the end of his drill to scrub the table. Next, he went in with an electric sander until the table was completely bare.

"It was so satisfying seeing all that old orange stain strip away and have this perfect base to work with," he said.

After cleaning away all the sawdust, Sweeney applied a light tan wash and polycrylic top coat to neutralize the wood's color. Once the coffee table dried, it was fully restored to beautiful and natural light wood tone.

@thefliphut

$12 at Goodwill and it had that classic orange stain that makes most people walk right past it 🍊 Those are always the ones I stop for. But before we get into the flip — can we talk about coastal decor for a second? Because I’m so over the stark blue and white “Florida fishing dock” look that everyone defaults to when they hear coastal. That’s not the only way. 🌊 To me real coastal is lighter washed woods, warm natural tones, soft accents with just enough depth to keep it from feeling flat. Timeless. Upscale. No anchors required. ⚓ Here’s what I did to get there — acetone and a drill brush to melt away the old topcoat and that orange stain, sanded all the way down to 220 grit for a perfectly smooth base, applied a light paint wash with tan paint and water to neutralize any leftover orange undertones, then sealed everything in a polycrylic topcoat for a clean durable finish. 🪵✨ The result is what I think modern coastal actually looks like in 2025. Light wood, warm wash, no blue in sight — and it looks more expensive than anything you’d find in a beach house catalog. Now I need to know — are you team classic blue coastal or are you with me on this more refined light wood approach? ♬ Low Battery - Carrot Lofi How to Decorate Your Home With the Upscale Coastal Aesthetic

At the end of his video, Sweeney staged the restored coffee table in a living room, alongside a white couch, dark patterned rug and dark table decor.

"Now this is what I call upscale coastal," he declared.

As Sweeney explains, coastal-themed interior design often leans toward a myriad of light and bright blue decor throughout the home — and he's not a fan of that. Instead, he prefers his coastal decor to be a bit more subtle, rich and elegant.

To achieve the upscale coastal aesthetic, "the key is to have some type of anchor point that's a lighter wash, like this coffee table, but pair it with darker and deeper accents to really contrast each other," according to Sweeney.
