The Most Affordable International Getaways for Summer 2026, According to the Numbers

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:25pm

Summer 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most volatile travel seasons in years, with higher fuel costs, route cuts and shifting airfare trends reshaping where Americans can afford to go. But the deals have not disappeared. They have simply moved.

According to new data from Dollar Flight Club's Summer 2026 travel report, the most affordable international getaways this year are closer to home, heavy on Latin America and the Caribbean and surprisingly strong in parts of Canada. If you are flexible about where you travel, there are still serious airfare deals to be found.

The report analyzed more than 500,000 airfare data points across 65 U.S. departure airports to determine which international destinations are consistently showing the lowest round-trip economy fares for summer travel. While Europe is seeing price spikes, short-haul international routes are holding steady.

If you are searching for the most affordable international destinations for summer 2026, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean dominate the list.

According to the report, these are the most affordable international getaways right now:

  • LeĂłn and Guanajuato, Mexico
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Guatemala City, Guatemala
  • San JosĂ©, Costa Rica
  • Mexico City, Mexico
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica

Many of these destinations regularly see round-trip fares under $400 from major U.S. cities, with some routes dipping even lower depending on departure airport and timing. For travelers planning summer 2026 beach vacations, Puerto Vallarta, San Juan, and Punta Cana stand out as particularly strong value destinations.

Short-haul international flights burn less fuel than transatlantic routes, which is helping keep prices more stable. In a year when airfare pricing is highly dynamic, these markets are producing more consistent deals than Western Europe.

Canada Emerges as a Cool and Affordable International Option

One of the more surprising findings in the summer 2026 travel data is how affordable Canada has become. For travelers looking to escape extreme heat without paying European prices, cities north of the border are delivering both cooler temperatures and competitive airfare.

The most affordable Canadian cities include:

  • Toronto, Ontario
  • Montreal, Quebec
  • Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Calgary, Alberta

Round-trip fares to several of these cities are frequently appearing under $400, making Canada one of the best-value international destinations for summer 2026. It is a rare overlap of affordability, comfortable weather and urban culture.

The takeaway for travelers planning summer 2026 international trips is simple: flexibility matters more than ever. Europe may still be on your wish list, but the most affordable international getaways this year are concentrated in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and Canada.

1977 Country Classic, Originally an Overnight Radio Anthem, Became a No. 1 Hit

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:20pm

Forty-eight years ago, the '70s father-daughter country duo The Kendalls topped the Billboard Country Singles chart with their smash hit "Heaven's Just a Sin Away."

Released in September 1977 as the second single and title track of their breakthrough album, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" was an overnight sensation. Upon release, the track climbed up the Billboard Country Singles chart, peaking at No. 1 on October 8 and holding the position for four consecutive weeks. The song's success also bled into the Hot 100 chart, reaching No. 69— an impressive feat for a country duo during that era.

In addition to its chart success, the song earned significant critical recognition and commercial milestones. In 1982, the track was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 1 million copies. "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" also swept the following awards season, taking home a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and a Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Single of the Year in 1978.

Produced by Brien Fisher via Ovation Records, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" originally gained popularity through heavy airplay on gospel radio stations. The country crossover hit was notable for its stunning harmonies and upbeat tempo that captured listeners' attention across genre palettes. The track's memorable melody and funky instrumentation created a sound that appealed to a wide audience and complimented the song's themes perfectly.

Written by country songwriter Jerry Gillespie, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" tells the story of a woman desperately trying to resist the temptation to cheat on her partner. The songs cheeky themes of desire are executed through playful lyrics that balance traditional country storytelling with a modern touch.

Even after nearly five decades, the chart-topping single remains the duo's most popular work. On Spotify alone, the track has accumulated over 6.3 million streams, attesting to its ability to reach new generations in the streaming era.

Why No Doubt's Tom Dumont Decided To Share His Parkinson's Diagnosis

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:19pm

Tom Dumont purposely went public with his Parkinson's diagnosis ahead of No Doubt heading to the Las Vegas Sphere.

"I felt like as these shows got announced, I started thinking, 'I think I just need to just let people know about it,'" he said during an interview with ABC's Nightline this week. "I think it just makes it easier on me actually, if people know, it's something I don't have to hold inside or keep a secret."

"The beautiful thing is I've gotten so much support, obviously from family and friends and fans, but from the band as well," he added.

Dumont, 58, who shared his health update in April, also noted that he's "been doing great for a number of years."

In the announcement made last month, the iconic guitarist shared that after experiencing "a number of symptoms" he decided to go to the doctor.

"I went to a neurologist and I did a whole bunch of tests and I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease. It’s been a struggle. It’s a struggle every day, and I’ll make another video with what Parkinson’s entails," he said. "The good news is I can still play music, I can still play guitar. I’ve been doing really well.”

No Doubt, which also comprises of lead singer Gwen Stefani, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young, kicked off their residency at The Sphere on May 6.

"When we first decided to do this eight months ago, Tommy and I started getting together in Adrian's basement and we just started jamming," Kanal said in the ABC interview that aired on Tuesday.

"We're almost playing as good as we used to," Young joked.

Marking 30 years since the band's 'Tragic Kingdom' album, the band's set of shows has already been extended — they'll be playing 18 dates through June.

"The band was always the most important thing," Young also said of when the group started out. "Even when we were broke, the band was the most important thing to all of us for, better or worse."

Netflix’s Most Brutal Reality Show Yet Heads Into the Jungle

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:13pm

Netflix is taking its survival competition series Outlast somewhere much hotter for the premiere season of the spinoff.

The streamer just revealed the official trailer, premiere date and cast for Outlast: The Jungle, which drops 16 strangers into the unforgiving Panamanian jungle for a brutal fight to survive, strategize and outlast each other for a $1 million prize.

The new show premieres June 10 on Netflix.

Unlike in the two seasons of the original series, which were both set in the freezing wilderness of Alaska, Outlast: The Jungle trades snow and isolation for heat, humidity and what looks like a much more volatile social game. The newly released trailer teases shifting alliances, explosive confrontations and contestants struggling to survive in the dense jungle environment while battling exhaustion, hunger and each other.

Netflix described the season as a game where “survival becomes as much about strategy as endurance,” with contestants forced to stay in teams in order to remain in the competition.

Executive producer and showrunner Mike Odair hinted that the new setting completely transformed the series.

“This season felt like throwing gasoline on the format,” Odair said in a statement. “We traded the frozen isolation of Alaska for the heat and volatility of Panama, and everything changed: the survival, the strategy, and the social dynamics.”

He continued, “Having now seen two seasons of the game, these contestants arrived ready to test alliances and push the social experiment further than ever before, creating a season that feels more primal, unpredictable, and intense from the very start.”

The franchise first premiered on Netflix in 2023 and quickly built a following for its ruthless gameplay and survival-focused format, which forces contestants to work in teams while enduring brutal outdoor conditions. Unlike many reality competition shows, contestants can only leave the game voluntarily by firing a flare gun or through medical evacuation.

New episodes of Outlast: The Jungle will roll out over two weeks:

  • Wednesday, June 10: Episodes 1-6
  • Wednesday, June 17: Episodes 7-8

The season is executive produced by Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and Emma Ho for Aggregate Films alongside Ryan O'Dowd and Krystal Whitney for BBC Studios.

It continues, "What begins as a carefree getaway among friends quickly evolves into a chosen‑family experience. With a mix of personalities, relationship histories, and different forms of dwarfism, the group explores what love, honesty, and truly belonging really mean."

Beloved 1970s Rocker Returns To Welsh Town That Inspired Iconic Album—Here's Why It's Worth a Visit

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:57pm

Rock legend Robert Plant recently came back to a place that clearly still matters to him: the rolling hills surrounding Machynlleth, Wales. The Led Zeppelin frontman showed up to throw his support behind the town's bid to become UK Town of Culture—and his presence there speaks volumes about what the place has meant to him and his music over the decades.

Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page retreated to these Welsh hills decades ago when they were working on some of their most groundbreaking material. Away from the chaos of touring and recording studios, they hunkered down in a cottage called Bron-Yr-Aur just outside town, where inspiration struck in ways it couldn't have in a typical recording session. That's where the bones of Led Zeppelin III got built, and more importantly, where the skeleton of "Stairway to Heaven" came together—arguably one of the greatest rock songs ever written.

View this post on Instagram What Makes Machynlleth Worth the Trip

Machynlleth sits in the heart of the Dyfi Valley, with mountains rising up to the south—the gateway to Snowdonia National Park. It's nothing like the typical tourist destination. Often called "Mach" by locals, the town was recently ranked by Time Out as the second-most underrated place in Europe. This is a place where creative energy, epic landscapes, and centuries of Welsh history coexist harmoniously.

The town holds serious historical weight. In 1404, the Welsh leader Owain GlyndƔr held parliament here and declared himself Prince of Wales. You can visit the Owain GlyndƔr Centre to learn more about this pivotal moment in Welsh history.

Related: This Under‑the‑Radar Southern City Was Just Named a Top Travel Destination for Its Horse Farms, Bourbon Tours, and Rising Food Scene

Beyond the history, Machynlleth has cultivated a vibrant creative scene. The town hosts an annual Comedy Festival every May bank holiday that's become something of a cult favorite, drawing comedians and audiences who want something different from the mainstream circuit. There's also the GƔyl Machynlleth Festival, which celebrates Welsh and international music and culture throughout the summer. MOMA Machynlleth, housed in a converted chapel, showcases contemporary Welsh art and regular performances.

The main street is lined with independent shops—the kind of places where you'll actually find thoughtful, unique goods rather than chain store duplicates. The Wednesday market, which has been running for over 700 years, still draws locals and visitors, featuring everything from handmade crafts to local produce.

For outdoors lovers, the town sits within a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve. Some three dozen hiking trails in the area weave through dense forests, alongside rivers, and across open moorland—from easy riverside walks to challenging mountain ascents. The dramatic Dyfi Forest stretches across 6,000 hectares north of town and looks like something out of a movie, thanks to moss-covered oaks surrounding bubbling streams and scattered ruins. The region also connects to the 135-mile GlyndĆ”r's Way National Trail, which passes directly through Machynlleth.

The Connection to Rock History

What Plant's visit really highlights is that Machynlleth isn't just important to Wales—it's woven into rock-and-roll history. This is where some of the most influential music ever created came together. Standing in those hills where Plant and Page worked, you're standing in the birthplace of what many may consider as one of rock's defining moments.

Taylor Frankie Paul Seemingly Reveals Who She Chose on 'The Bachelorette'

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:54pm

Taylor Frankie Paul may have just revealed who she chose on her season of The Bachelorette.

On Wednesday, May 13, one of Paul's suitors, Doug Mason, posted an Instagram Story which showed him repairing his toilet paper holder.

Later that day, Paul posted a photo of her toilet paper holder and tagged Mason, writing, "Hey @_dougmason mine broke too...can you help by chance?"

RELATED: Taylor Frankie Paul’s ‘Bachelorette’ Season Will Reportedly Air This Summer on ABC

Following her story post, fans were quick to point out that Paul broke a long-standing Bachelor Nation rule restricting leads from interacting with their suitors on social media before the season finishes airing.

"Just another reason why it’s pointless for the season to be aired," one fan wrote. "Seems like all spoiler policies must be out now 😂." added another.

Paul’s season of The Bachelorette was scheduled to premiere on Mar. 22. On Mar. 19, ABC pulled the plug after TMZ released a never-before-seen video that appeared to show Paul assaulting her ex-boyfriendDakota Mortensen in 2023.

In a statement to TMZ, a Disney Entertainment spokesperson said, “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”

The Draper and West Jordan police departments in Utah also opened separate domestic violence investigations regarding alleged altercations between Paul and Mortensen that occurred in February 2026.

In April, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced they declined to file charges against Paul for the alleged incidents.

To date, there has been no official update from ABC regarding if and when Paul's season will air.

2014 Comedy Drama, Disliked by Critics, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 12 Years Later

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:48pm

Streaming services have a way of bringing not-so-well-loved films back into rotation for a perfect watching experience. A comedy drama starring Michael Douglas and the late Diane Keaton has gotten attention on Netflix and has climbed to the charts to success.

According to Netflix's Top 10 list, the film And So It Goes has dominated the charts, landing at No. 4 on the list, beating out the animated film Home. And So It Goes is not to be confused with the 1989 Billy Joel track, but is instead a comedy film by the late director Rob Reiner in 2001. It marked the second collaboration between Reiner and Douglas after having worked together on the 1995 political romance The American President.

The cast for the film starred Douglas in the leading role of Oren Little, with Keaton as the character Leah. It also starred Sterling Jerins, Annie Parisse, Reiner as Artie, and Frances Sternhagen in her last role before her death in 2023.

And So It Goes focuses on a realtor by trade, Oren Little, who shuts out his neighbors, friends, and becomes antisocial following the death of his wife. His neighbor also lost her husband and never had any children of her own, and tries to revive a stale singing career. Oren's life takes a turn when his adult son appears on his doorstep to drop off his granddaughter, whom he never knew about.

The death of his wife has pushed Oren to have no patience for children, leaving his granddaughter to test him. As both Oren and Leah take care of the young girl, they begin to heal their wounds. And So It Goes was considered a moderate success after its release, having only made $25.3 million at the box office compared to its $18 milliom budget.

Related: 2001 Thriller Film, Once a Box Office Flop, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 25 Years Later

Fans called the film a "heartfelt and surprisingly engaging drama" carried by its leading stars, while others called it a feel-good movie. While some critics praised Keaton and Douglas as powerful actors, the film didn't do well amid reviews. The film has a 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.9 on IMDb.

"And So It Goes aims for comedy, but with two talented stars stuck in a half-hearted effort from a once-mighty filmmaker, it ends in unintentional tragedy," reads the general consensus by Rotten Tomatoes.

Other critics aimed at Reiner's "fruitless" narrative that left little to be explored, and for its obvious ending storyline that was given away by the film's poster. Some reviews agreed that the film tugged at the heartstrings, but failed to make it a worthwhile film.

As great as all of these products are in and of themselves, the fan-favorite supermarket chain might just have launched its most delicious-sounding product in the form of their new $3.29 Pickled Red Onions.

A simple yet endlessly satisfying treat that goes remarkably well with a variety of dishes, the Pickled Red Onions feature a generous supply of sliced red onions marinated in a blend of apple cider vinegar, sugar, garlic, salt and whole black peppercorns, as revealed on the company's website.

"All preparations of onions have their place," Trader Joe's said of their new product. "Fresh Onions are great sliced on a burger or diced on a taco. Grilled onions are tremendous with a hot dog or sandwich. And pickled onions? Well, if you ask us, pickled onions make a tip-top topping for pretty much anything that could use a little tang, a little texture, and a little pop of umami."

Delivering a "well-balanced profile of sweet, savory, bold, and briny that synergizes well with everything from avocado toast to Carne Asada fries," Trader Joe's Pickled Red Onions truly make for the ideal accompaniment to almost every savory dish, be it burgers, nachos, tacos or some other weekday meal.

"Our Pickled Red Onions add a phenomenal finishing touch to a plate of chilaquiles or a lox-laden bagel at breakfast, a bowl of ramen, or a quick Chopped Salad at lunch, and pulled pork or roast chicken at dinner," the company went on to say of the new product. "And when it comes to appetizers and hors d’oeuvres, they’re an essential addition to nachos, mezze platters, and deviled eggs."

As with most of Trader Joe's newly launched products, the Pickled Red Onions have been met with an unwaveringly positive response across social media, with many shoppers voicing their support for the new item on Instagram.

"I'm unreasonably excited about the pickled red onions," wrote one user. "I 100% am aware it's easy to make at home but it's just one less thing I have to do and I'm all for it."

"So many things to do with those pickled red onions!" another shopper agreed.

When Does the 'Outlander' Finale Come Out? How and Where to Watch the Ending

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:37pm

The end is nigh as, after eight seasons, Outlanderwraps up the series with its final episode on Friday. We'll say goodbye to the Fraser and MacKenzie clans on the romantic, time-traveling drama, based on the bestselling novels by Diana Gabaldon.

The big question that remains to be answered is whether Frank Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) book is correct and Jamie (Sam Heughan) dies in battle at Kings Mountain. Or, if he’s wounded, can Claire (Caitríona Balfe) save him with her blue-light healing powers?

“I know Diana’s ending,” Heughan told Parade in an exclusive interview when Season 8 premiered. “We won’t get all the books done, obviously. We’re only in Season 8, and she’s still writing. What I believe is there are going to be multiple endings and we will choose one eventually. We’re going to shoot various endings, but I don’t know which one they’ll use. One of the ideas I’ve been asking for or pushing for is very similar to the way Diana’s book will end.”

Here's everything to know about the series finale of Outlander, including how to watch.

'Today' Co-Anchor Sheinelle Jones Reveals Major Move

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:36pm

“I'm moving," she announced. “The kids are going to a new school, so we're moving. I have been going through boxes and boxes and boxes in our basement," per People.

Jones went on to explain that she has a ton of boxes in her basement, many from when she moved from Philadelphia to New York City, and hadn't opened them since. When her babysitter helped her go through things, Jones eventually grew tired of it.

“I started, after a while, not even wanting to look through boxes," she recounted. "I'm like, ‘Just throw it out. If I haven't seen it in five years, just throw it out.' And she's like, ‘No, Sheinelle. We've got to go through everything.'"

Thankfully, they didn't stop.

“I found this old suitcase, and I unzipped it, and it was my wedding dress," Jones explained, as a clip of her holding up the white gown played.

Jones's husband, Uche Ojeh, died at 45 in May 2025, following a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. They share three children, Kayin, 16, and twins Uche and Clara, 11.

"I remember Uche and I took pictures all over the streets of Philadelphia... So now, obviously, I see it differently."

Recently, Jones reflected on celebrating her first Mother's Day since Ojeh's death, admitting it was "tough" while also sharing a silver lining.

It's unclear where she and her kids are moving, as of writing. But we wish Jones the best as she continues going through boxes and packing everything for the big move!

'One Tree Hill' Alum Sophia Bush Has a New Project in the Works—and Fans Can’t Wait

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:35pm

Sophia Bush is ready to share her story.

On May 14, the Grey's Anatomy star announced on CBS Mornings that she has written a book titled And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes From a Life in Progress. Scheduled for release in October, Bush's debut book is a "collection of stories and moments" from her life. With this release, she will soon join her former One Tree Hillco-stars Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz as a fellow published author.

Fans on social media are abuzz with the news of Bush's upcoming book, and for good reason. In addition to her status as a Millennial icon thanks to her memorable role as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill, the California native has mirrored her character’s ambition by becoming a successful businessperson in real life. Bush has also taken on memorable roles in TV and film projects such as John Tucker Must Die, Hatfields & McCoys, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice, Chicago Fire, and Good Sam.

Bush has also made headlines for her progressive political views and her advocacy of women's rights, voters' rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental protection. In 2024, she publicly came out as queer in a Glamourcover story she wrote, describing what it felt like to finally "breathe" following her recent divorce from ex-husband Grant Hughes.

She wrote, "I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I'm deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we're seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history.... I've experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community, as an ally all of my life, that, as I came into myself, I already felt it was my home. I think I've always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now, I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can't say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great."

Bush has been married twice: first to former One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray from 2005 to 2006, and then to Grant Hughes from 2022 to 2023. Since 2023, she has been linked to former US Women's National Team soccer player Ashlyn Harris.

1979 Classic Film, Inspired by Iconic ’70s Album, Ranked Among ‘Greatest Rock and Roll Movies’ of All Time

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:32pm

Some albums tell a story so compelling that filmmakers base an entire movie around them. That is exactly what happened with this 1979 classic, which was adapted from a legendary rock opera.

In 2019, Consequence ranked the 50 greatest rock and roll films, compiling a list of the best movies that utilize the beloved genre through both soundtrack and plot. Ranked among classics such as D.A. Pennebaker’s 1967 documentary Dont Look Back at No. 28 and Alan Arkush’s 1979 film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School at No. 25, Franc Roddam's 1979 directorial debut, Quadrophenia, secured the No. 26 spot.

Released in the U.K. on September 14, 1979—the same day it premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, Quadrophenia was not an initial box office success. Upon its release, the film only grossed about £36,472 at the London box office. Like many films with niche audiences, it did not grow a significant fanbase until years later when it accumulated a massive cult following.

The drama starred several then-up-and-coming British talents, including Sting, Ray Winstone, Phil Daniels and Leslie Ash—all of whom established their careers through their performances.

The film follows a young boy in the '60s named Jimmy Cooper, who longs to escape his strict parents and dead-end job. Jimmy finds a sense of belonging when he joins the "Mod" subculture, a movement among young people that centers on fashion and music. Throughout the movie, Jimmy experiments with his new identity, riding scooters and clashing with rival Brighton "Rockers."

Quadrophenia's plot and soundtrack were directly inspired by The Who's sixth studio album of the same name. Like the film, the 1973 album tells the story of a young disillusioned boy navigating adolescence in search of purpose. When creating the adaptation, Roddam worked closely with the band's manager, Bill Curbishley, to make the most authentic visual rendition possible.

Even after 52 years, Quadrophenia is still making waves in rock history. The film's cult following remains active today, and it holds a rare 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, affirming its legacy as one of the greatest rock and roll movies of all time.

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:30pm

Every day, there's a new reminder that our favorite celebrities are not much different from ourselves. And in a recent episode of the Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler, Poehler and her guest Da'Vine Joy Randolph share an all-too-relatable conversation about cookware that immediately struck a chord with fans.

But what really stood out during the clip is the dream kitchen essential Randolph describes purchasing for her own kitchen: the KitchenAid Design Series Evergreen Stand Mixer. Truly a statement piece in its own right, this stunning $800 mixer might be outside of most people's budget, but Poehler and Randolph's shared obsession couldn't have resonated more with fans.

"I love cookware. I could talk about cookware all day long," Poehler starts out the clip.

"I'm big on aesthetics," Randolph replies. "So the mixer I got—have you seen it? It's like the limited collection from William and Sonoma," adorably mispronouncing the name.

"Not a sponsor," Poehler jokes. "OK, talk me through this."

Randolph continues: "Hunter green, with a dark mahogany wood mixing bowl."

"Holy s**t," Poehler responds, now viewing the KitchenAid Design Series Evergreen Stand Mixer on her laptop.

Randolph then turns to a cookware set, saying, "So now, I'm about to really knock your socks off, I've been wanting these pots and pans—"

"Stand by," Poehler says, quickly searching them up on her laptop.

But before Randolph can finish, Poehler has other plans, saying: "Thank you for coming, we're gonna get off and end this podcast, and we're gonna go shopping," as the two laugh uncontrollably.

KitchenAid Design Series Evergreen Stand Mixer, $799.95 at Williams Sonoma

Williams-Sonoma

Truly a piece of art that doubles as a top-tier kitchen appliance, the KitchenAid Design Series Evergreen Stand Mixer earns its stripes through its deep forest-green hue and beautiful walnut work bowl, which boasts a unique grain pattern and a food-safe finish. Designed to elevate your baking game with a variety of included attachments, this versatile machine carries enough power and capacity to whip up large batches of batter and dough without taking up too much precious counter space.

As for the details that set it apart from the competition, this mixer features planetary action with 59 touch points in the bowl, allowing attachments to spin independently while making continual rotations for thorough mixing. It also has a 10-speed range from slow stirring to high beating, and a head that tilts effortlessly for easy removal of the bowl and stainless-steel beaters. With your purchase, you get the stand mixer, walnut work bowl, a flat beater, a dough hook and a wire whip to boot.

What Fans Are Saying

In the comments section below @goodhangwithamy's post, fans wasted no time expressing their feelings about being seen by Poehler and Randolph's cookware conversation. Tons of folks claimed to know exactly what Randolph was talking about the minute she started describing its colors, further proving that we all really do dream about the same aesthetically pleasing things.

"The way I gasped when she said it was a mahogany mixing bowl," one person wrote. "If I won the lottery, there would be signs," another added. "I knew exactly what mixer she was talking about before she explained," a third fan chimed in. "It's everything
except not in my kitchen."

Others echoed the sentiment, one claiming the "mixer has the same color story as a 1992 Ford Explorer, and I love that," while another said, "I don't even bake and I wanted that mixer when I saw it."

If there's one takeaway here, it's that food really does an incredible job of bringing everyone together. That, and a good set of cookware, can do wonders for your kitchen, though there's clearly plenty of room for upgrades if you've got the budget. While we might find ourselves dreaming of kitchen essentials just out of reach, it is nice when our tastes align with those who inspire us most.

What Is the Status of Hantavirus in the U.S.?

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:30pm

Unless you've been living under a rock, hantavirus—and the cruise ship that started it all—has been impossible to ignore. As the MV Hondius finished disembarking passengers around the world, it's natural to wonder what this actually means for Americans. Right now, 16 American passengers are being monitored at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, but here's what you really need to know.

Who's Being Monitored and Where?

Sixteen American passengers from the Hondius arrived at the National Quarantine Unit in Nebraska, with another two currently monitored at Emory University in Atlanta. One of the Nebraska passengers initially tested positive and was placed in a biocontainment unit, but has since tested negative and been moved to a regular quarantine room. As of right now, none of the monitored passengers are showing symptoms or running fevers.

Beyond those in medical facilities, roughly 36 Americans across multiple states are being monitored at home after potential exposure—either because they left the cruise early or were exposed to infected passengers during air travel. States including Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, California, Maryland, New Jersey, and Washington are all tracking individuals, but according to the CDC, none have tested positive for the virus and are all asymptomatic so far.

The big question everyone's asking: how long will they be quarantined? According to Dr. Michael Wadman, medical director of the National Quarantine Unit, speaking to TODAY, the duration is still being determined by the CDC.

"That's currently being determined, and I can't give you an absolute number," he said. “It may be different for different individuals, and so we’re waiting on those (CDC) assessments, and that will set the recommended quarantine intervals that they’re coming through.”

The World Health Organization recommends a full 42-day quarantine period—the length of the virus's incubation period. Some passengers may be allowed to leave early and self-isolate at home if they remain symptom-free, but that decision hasn't been finalized yet.

What We Know About the Andes Strain of the Hantavirus

This outbreak involves the Andes strain of hantavirus, the only type known to spread from person to person (though it still primarily spreads through close contact). The virus can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a severe respiratory illness that can be fatal. Symptoms can take up to 42 days to appear after exposure, which is why the long quarantine period is necessary.

So far, there are 10 confirmed or probable cases linked to the Hondius, including three deaths. About 150 people were exposed aboard the ship.

What Are the Common Symptoms of Hantavirus?

Early symptoms may include:

  • Fever and chills
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea or abdominal distress

Later symptoms (4-10 days) may include:

  • Coughing
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Fluid in the lungs
  • Respiratory failure

Related: U.S. Issues Travel Warning for Beloved Island Destination Over Virus Outbreak

What's the Risk to You?

Here's the reassuring part: the CDC says the risk to the general American public remains "extremely low." The Andes virus is linked to rodents in South America, and those rodents haven't been found in the United States. There are no confirmed cases of the Andes strain among Americans outside those being monitored.

The CDC is "engaged at every step," according to David Fitter, the agency's incident manager for the hantavirus response. Remember, hantavirus isn’t new to the infectious disease world, and officials seem confident in their response strategy.

Bottom line: stay informed, but don't panic.

We Asked 3 Cardiac Experts About the Best Dinner for Heart Health and They All Said the Same Thing

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:25pm

If you’re 60 or older, you very likely know at least one person who has faced a heart health issue.

According to research published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, cardiovascular disease affects roughly 75% of adults between the ages of 60 and 79 and up to 86% of people 80 and older. On top of that, heart attacks also become more common after 60.

While it’s important to be aware of how heart health risks change as we age, it may put your mind at ease to know that heart health is widely controllable. According to the World Heart Federation, an estimated 80% of cardiovascular disease is preventable through diet and lifestyle habits.

Related: Here's Exactly What Happens to Your Cholesterol When You Eat Walnuts

Maybe you’re already familiar with the types of diets that are recommended for heart health. The Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet are two eating plans in particular that cardiologists regularly recommend for supporting the heart through diet. But it’s one thing to know what these diets recommend; knowing what it actually looks like and following through when it comes to using the guidelines to craft your meals is something else entirely—and that’s the part that matters most.

With that in mind, we asked two cardiologists and one cardiac dietitian about what the best dinner for heart health actually looks like. All three heart health experts had the exact same answer.

The Best Type of Dinner for Heart Health, According to 3 Cardiac Experts

Natalia Gdovskaia/Getty Images

When asked what should be prioritized the most at dinnertime, all three experts had the exact same answer: fiber. “If you’re building a heart-healthy dinner, fiber should take center stage,” says Monica Kelly, RD, CDN, a cardiac dietitian and wellbeing manager at Montefiore Einstein.

Kelly explains that fiber helps pull excess cholesterol out of the body. If you want to lower your cholesterol, making your meals fiber-forward is a great way to do it. “Fiber also keeps blood sugar steady and supports a healthy gut, both of which play a role in protecting your heart,” Kelly says.

Related: We Asked 3 Cardiologists About the Best Afternoon Habit for Heart Health, and They All Said the Same Thing

Dr. Christopher Davis, MD, FACC, the chief cardiologist at Humann, explains that fiber supporting gut health also means it's good for the heart.

“Fiber feeds beneficial gut bacteria, which produce compounds called short-chain fatty acids,” he says, adding that short-chain fatty acids reduce inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity, support cholesterol metabolism and enhance nitric oxide production. “Nitric oxide is essential for vascular health—it allows blood vessels to relax, improves circulation and helps regulate blood pressure."

On top of all this, Kelly says that meals built around high-fiber foods also tend to be more filling, so you feel satisfied without overeating. That means that if one of your health goals is maintaining a healthy weight, prioritizing fiber is key.

“Fiber is genuinely one of the most powerful tools we have for cardiovascular health, and it's chronically underappreciated,” says  Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj, MD, FACC, an interventional cardiologist and functional medicine doctor. “A plate built around vegetables, legumes and whole plant foods creates a slower, more controlled response after the meal. That's exactly what your heart is asking for.”

Other Nutrients To Prioritize for Heart Health

After fiber, all three heart health experts say that the next most important nutrient is omega-3 fatty acids. Dr. Davis explains that these healthy fats help improve endothelial function and lower inflammation. Kelly adds that omega-3 fatty acids help lower LDL cholesterol too.

Protein is also important for heart health, the experts say. “Protein matters, but it must come from clean, quality sources. It stabilizes blood sugar, preserves muscle mass and keeps you satiated. People forget that muscle is a major metabolic organ. It directly impacts insulin sensitivity, which is central to cardiometabolic health,” Dr. Bhojraj says.

Related: 7 Foods Cardiologists Always Eat for Heart Health

Besides these big three heart-healthy nutrients, all three experts say that other nutrients, like potassium and magnesium, are important for heart health too. As long as you’re eating a varied diet rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein, you’ll likely be consuming these nutrients by default.

For example, Dr. Bhojraj points out that potassium is found in fiber-rich leafy greens and sweet potatoes. And magnesium, which is important for balanced blood pressure and heart rhythm, is found in fiber-rich bananas and leafy greens, as well as protein- and omega-3-rich pumpkin seeds and flaxseeds.

What a Cardiologist-Approved Dinner Actually Looks Like

Now that you know what nutrients to prioritize at dinner (or any meal, for that matter), it’s important to know how to turn this guidance into an actual meal.

Remember how fiber should be the main priority at dinner? All three experts say that literally half your dinner should consist of fiber-rich foods. Kelly explains that some examples of this include vegetables, beans, whole grains and lentils.

Many foods aren’t just rich in one nutrient. For example, beans and lentils are high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. Nutrient-dense foods like these are great ingredients to build your dinners around.

To get enough omega-3s, Dr. Davis says to incorporate foods like fish, avocado, nuts and seeds into your dinner. He adds that cooking with olive oil is a great way to add omega-3s to your meals.

Fish is another food that checks more than one nutrient box because it’s also high in protein. All three experts say that other heart-healthy proteins that can be incorporated into dinner include skinless poultry, tofu, beans, lentils and chickpeas.

To flavor your dinners, Dr. Davis suggests using spices and herbs like garlic, rosemary, black pepper and turmeric. All of these herbs—and many more—are rich in antioxidants, which lower inflammation. When you use herbs like these to flavor your food, you’ll likely find yourself using less salt, which is key for heart health because a diet high in sodium increases blood pressure. With so many other flavorful herbs at your disposal, you won’t even miss it.

One of Dr. Bhorjraj’s favorite dinners that follows these guidelines is salmon with a generous portion of roasted vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, carrots or zucchini. He adds a side of lentils or quinoa with avocado and pumpkin seeds, and drizzles olive oil over everything. “That's it. High fiber, quality protein, healthy fats, rich in potassium and magnesium and phytonutrients, and it's satisfying without sending blood sugar on a rollercoaster,” he tells Parade.

Kelly’s go-to dinner is also salmon, roasted veggies and a side of quinoa or whole grains. “This meal hits all the right notes: fiber, healthy fats, lean protein and plenty of color,” she says.

Fish, veggie and quinoa is Dr. Davis’s go-to dinner, too. Often, he likes to add sweet potato to his meal because of its high potassium and magnesium content. And he uses lots of herbs to give his dinner lots of flavor (and extra antioxidants).

“A heart-healthy dinner doesn’t have to be complicated. When you build your plate around plants, add healthy fats and keep things simple, you’re already doing your heart a favor,” Kelly says. As long as you follow those guidelines, your meal is sure to be cardiologist-approved.

1995 No. 1 Hit Ranked the 'Best Original Song' Written for a Movie

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 1:23pm

Sometimes the addition of a thematic song can enhance the audience's viewing experience of a film. This can especially be true if the song was created with the movie in mind. Some of the top movie tunes were showcased in Pastemagazine's ranking of the "50 best original songs written for films."

According to Paste, a few of the best original movie songs include Sufjan Stevens' “Mystery of Love” for the 2017 film, Call Me By Your Name, “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” by Tina Turner from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), Simon & Garfunkel's “Mrs. Robinson” from The Graduate (1967),  Billie Eilish's “What Was I Made For?” from 2023's Barbie, and Bruce Springsteen's “Streets of Philadelphia” from Philadelphia (1993).

The publication ranked “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio featuring L.V., from the 1995 thriller Dangerous Minds, as the "best original song written for film." Paste reported that the song secured the number one 1995 Billboard Year-End Hot 100 spot.

Coolio & L.V. Opened up About Making 'Gangsta's Paradise' in a 2015 Interview

L.V., Coolio, and the song's producer Doug Rasheed discussed the 1995 hit in a 2015 interview withRolling Stone magazine. Rasheed said he "decided to sample ['Pastime Paradise' by Stevie Wonder] and make a beat with it." He also said he wanted to collaborate with L.V. because the singer "was trying to get a deal at that time."

During the interview, Coolio, who immediately wanted to be a part of the song, shared that he "wasn’t really familiar with 'Pastime Paradise,'" despite being a fan of Wonder. He also said that once he heard "the bass line, the chorus line and the hook," he "freestyled" the song's iconic introduction.

"[T]hat came off the top of the dome and I wrote that down. I thought about it for a minute, and then I wrote the whole rest of the song without stopping, from the first verse to the third verse. You know, I like to believe that it was divine intervention. 'Gangsta’s Paradise' wanted to be born; it wanted to come to life, and it chose me as the vessel," said Coolio to Rolling Stone.

According to Rasheed, Coolio's manager, Paul Stewart, "took the demo and shopped it to a couple of films, one of which was Dangerous Minds." L.V. also said he believes the song was considered for the 1995 movie, Bad Boys.

"I think the Martin Lawrence movie Bad Boys wanted it first, but they didn’t wanna pay enough. And then Dangerous Minds upped the ante on the price," said the singer to Rolling Stone.
