Florida's Peppa Pig Theme Park Will Hold 'Peppa's Halloween Party' on Weekends in October

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:57pm

If a trip to Central Florida’s theme parks is in store for your family this October, you just might want to make a stop at Peppa Pig Theme Park to celebrate Halloween with Peppa, George, and friends.

‘Peppa’s Halloween Party’ at Peppa Pig Theme Park

Peppa’s Halloween Party is family-friendly, included with theme park admission, and offers trick-or-treating, seasonal food and beverage options, and the chance to meet Peppa and George in their Halloween costumes. Geared towards toddlers and preschoolers, the event also includes a candy bag kids can use to stop for sweet treats at stations around the park. And, in addition to posing for photos with a costumed Peppa and George, Halloween episodes of “Peppa Pig” will be playing in the park’s cinema area, an air-conditioned theater that’s ideal for a mid-day rest.

Peppa Pig Theme Park Florida is located near Legoland Florida in Winter Haven, about 45 miles from Orlando. Designed with preschool-aged kids in mind, the theme park is filled with pint-sized rides, shows, character meet-and-greets, and more Peppa-themed fun that’s perfect for fans of the cartoon. Families can also eat at Miss Rabbit’s Diner, a restaurant that serves everything from grilled cheeses to pizza, as well as Muddy Puddle Milkshakes that are the perfect treat after a day running around the theme park.

When Is ‘Peppa’s Halloween Party’ at Peppa Pig Theme Park?

The not-so-spooky festivities take place on weekends throughout October, including Oct. 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25, and during Halloween weekend on Oct. 31. And, since Legoland Florida is next door to Peppa Pig Theme Park, it’s a great time to also take advantage of Brick or Treat, Legoland’s Halloween programming that includes Halloween shows, interactions with Lego Halloween monsters, and more, and is also included with theme park admission.

Sandra Bullock on Adopting Son Amid the Jesse James Cheating Scandal: ‘A Really Dark Time in My Life'

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:51pm

Sandra Bullock is opening up about adopting her son Louis in the wake of the cheating scandal that caused the end of her marriage to Jesse James.

Bullock, 62, won America’s heart with films like Speed and While You Were Sleeping. She eventually earned an Academy Award for her role in The Blind Side, in which she played Leigh Anne Tuohy, who took in a homeless Black teen. She’s continued her reign in Hollywood in the following years, anchoring Ocean’s 8 and Bird Box. Now back with Practical Magic 2 alongside Nicole Kidman, Bullock is opening up about one of the most difficult times in her life.

In a new interview with friend Jennifer Aniston for Interview Magazine, Bullock spoke about filming Gravity, which came as she was dealing with the aftermath of the cheating scandal caused by her then-husband, Jesse James.

“The one film that was the most meaningful to me, because it was paralleling where I was, was Gravity. It was during a really dark time in my life. I was raising and protecting a little smurf while I was trying to grieve, trying to get out of it,” said Bullock, referencing the adoption of her son Louis, which was occurring as she was navigating the grief of her split from James.

“He came at the very end of 2009,” said Bullock of her son, to which Aniston replied, “Boy, honey.”

“I was just cleaning out the closet, and I found these hockey bags for stuffing clothes in for travel. Child Protective Services, do not come after me, but when the poop hit the fan for me, when, we know what that is, I realized I had to get out of the house because the paparazzi were going to descend, and no one knew I had a newborn,” said Bullock. “So I put him in his car carrier, put it in the hockey bag, and zipped the hockey bag around him. Then I carried the hockey bag to the car, as though I was just carrying any random hockey bag.”

What Happened With Jesse James?

In March 2010, Bullock discovered that James, the founder of West Coast Choppers, was cheating on her, PEOPLE reported. Several women had come forward alleging affairs, and James ultimately went to rehab. Though the couple had married in 2005, they finalized their divorce by 2010.

'South Park' Teases a New Season with a New Name — Off the Back of Its Emmys Win

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:44pm

It’s sometimes hard to believe that South Park will premiere its 29th season later this month. Of course, each season is shorter than the likes of animated comedies like The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers, but it is one of the most politically charged animated comedies on TV, so for many, it will be a surprise that it hasn’t been canceled.

Now, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have made an announcement that is a complete shock to many. South Park will no longer be known by that name. The creators have announced a name change, inspired by President Donald Trump.

South Park is now South America. The duo made the announcement on social media, with an “America” sticker over the word “Park” on the wooden sign. The two men shared that not only was it inspired by Trump’s renaming of everything “America,” but it was “inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google.” They went on to “thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation,” a nod to Skydance recently taking over Paramount.

After initially changing the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” with many companies changing the name on their online maps, Trump recently changed the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” due to ongoing issues with Canada. There have been recent comments from him about looking to rename an ocean.

The news comes just ahead of South Park Season 29 premiering on Sept. 16, 2026. On Paramount+, the title of the show remains the same, suggesting that this is just a bit of fun. Everyone knows that the creators enjoy poking fun at political happenings, even if they would like to step away from it all now and then.

This follows South Park taking home the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The win came most specifically for the July 2025 episode titled “Sermon on the ‘Mount,” which mocked Trump and his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. It would mark the start of Season 27, gaining backlash from many Trump supporters.

The social media team for the series couldn’t help but share a photo of Trump holding the Emmy trophy with “You finally got your Emmy” written above him. It’s a nod to Trump being nominated but never winning an Emmy for The Apprentice.

South Park Season 29 will initially return on Sept. 16, but it will then take a week off and air on Sept. 30. Fans are used to the on-off scheduling of the series, as it’s often dictated by the post-production process. Despite this, Comedy Central has renewed the series through to 2029.

Actor Returns to Work After Near-Paralyzing Health Crisis and Personal Turmoil

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:33pm

Quinton Aaron has a new project that hits close to home. The Blind Side star is returning to work since his health crisis earlier this year.

TMZ reports he has landed his own vertical microdrama based on true events from his life. Much of the story will center on his relationship drama, which unraveled during his stay in the hospital amid his recovery.

Filming has yet to begin, but the project is in development and will start filming soon. The project will be 60 episodes. Each will be about two to three minutes in length. The project will run on Atwist, which is a new vertical platform working with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat and Upscale Productions.

Aaron will act in the series, though the outlet reports he is still deciding whether he wants to play the character inspired by himself or act in another capacity. He landed the role through his manager, who reportedly has a connection to the production company. It marks his return to acting since he landed in the ICU this year.

Aaron suffered a spinal stroke, which occurs when blood flow to the spinal cord is blocked or interrupted, depriving nerve tissues of vital oxygen and nutrients. He was placed on life support before a miraculous recovery, which included getting his tracheal tube removed and regaining his ability to speak, walk, and do basic daily tasks.

While hospitalized, his family learned that his wife, Margarita DeLeon was still legally married to a man she’d married in 1992. She “married” the actor in December 2024, with Aaron later revealing publicly that he was misled and believed that DeLeon was divorced when they began dating.

Aaron and DeLeon have since split. “We would’ve never spoken if I knew she was married,” he told Us Weekly in an interview. “I’m not the type of person that messes with married women. She kept telling me she was divorced for 10-plus years.”

“[I have not spoken with her] since the day we went to the hospital,” he explained in the interview. “There were times I remember seeing her in the room, but I was in and out of consciousness, and I didn’t speak to her because I was intubated. I don’t need to speak to her ever again,” he added, noting that because she was still legally married, their marriage was void.

“Thankfully, the marriage was voided,” he said. “I didn’t need to annul it because we weren’t legally married. I dodged a bullet there.”

Heath Ledger Film Was Just Named the 'Best Romantic Movie in Film History'

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:07pm

Despite being released over two decades ago, Brokeback Mountain, which was nominated for Best Picture at the 2006 Oscars, is still receiving recognition for its caliber in the romance genre.

Collider recently released a ranking of the “10 Best Romantic Movies in Film History,” which spotlighted films like The Princess Bride (1987), Roman Holiday (1953), and Moulin Rouge! (2001). The publication named Brokeback Mountain, which stars Heath Ledger as Ennis Del Mar and Jake Gyllenhaal as Jack Twist, the “best romantic movie in film history.”

The Ang Lee-directed film, which is an adaptation of Annie Proulx‘s 1997 short story, holds a score of 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 87 on Metacritic.

Heath Ledger Shared Why He Was Drawn to the ‘Brokeback Mountain’ Script

Ledger, who died in 2008 at the age of 28, discussed taking on the role of Ennis in a 2005 interview on Charlie Rose. The actor explained that he was drawn to the film’s script because it was unique and “a story of forbidden love.”

‘I mean, I remember when I first read the script, I put it down, and I had a lump in my throat. It really affected me, and I was excited to have the possibility of making this purely because I felt like it was a story that had never been put to screen,” explained Ledger during the 2005 interview.

In addition, Ledger described Ennis as “a character of potential.” He then explained that the film is about “what [Ennis] doesn’t allow himself in life.”

“My character was basically figuring out why he had this inability to love and to express,” said Ledger, who snagged an Oscar nomination for playing the ranch hand.

He went on to say that he soon realized Ennis’ quiet nature was due to his internal struggles as he grappled with his love for Jack.

“He was battling himself, battling his genetic structure, battling the generations before him. His father and his father’s father and their opinions. And their fears ultimately were so deeply embedded into the soul of this man that it restricted him from ever expressing,” said the actor.

1972 Rock Song, Lasting Nearly 23 Minutes, Was Inspired by the Bible

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:00pm

Fifty-four years ago, rock band Genesis released “Supper’s Ready”—a sprawling track spanning over twenty minutes that drew direct inspiration from biblical imagery.

Released on September 15, 1972, as the centerpiece of their fourth studio album, Foxtrot, “Supper’s Ready” became a progressive rock landmark. Because it was never issued as a commercial single, it did not appear on mainstream Billboard charts. However, it quickly garnered widespread acclaim among devoted progressive rock fans, who widely consider the track to be the ultimate rock epic.

“Supper’s Ready” was co-written by all five members of Genesis: Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford. Clocking in at 22 minutes and 54 seconds, the song took up nearly the entire second side of the original vinyl record.

Drummer Chester Thompson, bassist Mike Rutherford, guitarist Daryl Stuermer, keyboard player Tony Banks and drummer/singer Phil Collin of the English rock group Genesis, in New York, circa 1978.

Michael Putland/Getty Images

The initial spark for the track originated during a strange supernatural encounter that front-man Peter Gabriel and his wife, Jill, reportedly experienced. During a stay at her parents’ house, Gabriel claimed his wife was possessed by an entity, inspiring him to write a song exploring themes of spiritual warfare and the conflict between good and evil.

The composition pulls heavily from the Bible, making distinct allusions to the Book of Revelation. Its vivid imagery includes references to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb described in Revelation 19:6–9, as well as the apocalyptic trials and ultimate redemption.

Despite its enduring popularity, guitarist Steve Hackett admitted that he initially doubted the song’s commercial viability, believing its length and complex lyrical content would deter listeners:

“I thought, no one’s gonna buy this, because it’s too long. The references are too far-flung. It’s totally ambiguous,” he said. “I thought the first time [Charisma Records chief] Tony Stratton-Smith heard it he was gonna say: ‘Sorry, boys, game’s up, contract’s canceled, you’ll be hearing from our lawyers.’”

Over five decades since its release, “Supper’s Ready” remains a fundamental masterpiece of the progressive rock genre. In the digital era, the track continues to reach listeners around the world, accumulating over 8.9 million streams on Spotify.

Walmart’s ‘Beautiful’ $24 Scalloped Bamboo Wood 4-Piece Cutting Board Set Triples as Kitchen Decor and Serveware

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 4:00pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

The most frequent kitchen task? Chopping. Between dicing onions, slicing fruit, mincing herbs, and prepping vegetables, getting the ingredients ready can feel like 75% of the work before anything even hits the oven. Cutting boards spend a lot of time on the countertop as a result, so why shouldn’t they be just as pretty as the dishes and cookware you’ve carefully picked out?

Fortunately, functional doesn’t have to mean boring. The Kikcoin 4-Piece Bamboo Cutting Board Set is currently 49% off with a Walmart flash deal, dropping its usual $47 price to just $24. With three boards and one display rack included, that works out to just $6 per piece for a set that can handle everyday prep work, double as serveware, and looks pretty enough to leave out on your countertop.

With three different sizes included, there’s a cutting board for just about every prep job. The largest measures 15.4 by 10.2 inches, offering plenty of room to chop vegetables, slice meat, or tackle several ingredients at once for larger meals. The 11.8-by-7.9-inch medium board suits everyday dinners, while the petite 8.7-by-5.9-inch option is convenient for slicing a lemon, chopping a handful of herbs, or cutting up fruit. Each board is also 0.6 inches thick and has handles built into the sides, making it easy to carry freshly prepped ingredients from the counter to the stove or table.

The boards are made from natural bamboo that’s been deeply carbonized to help prevent cracking, warping, and lingering food odors over time. A juice groove runs around the perimeter to catch liquids from juicy produce and meats before they reach the countertop, while the smooth surface is designed to be gentle on knife blades. Even storage has been thoughtfully considered: The fourth piece in the set is a matching bamboo rack that keeps all three boards standing neatly upright. Besides looking much tidier than a precarious stack, the setup allows air to circulate around the boards after washing so they can dry more efficiently.

Scalloped edges make this set particularly useful once the prep work is finished. Rather than looking like standard chopping boards, the wavy silhouettes are polished enough to double as serving pieces for cheese and crackers, charcuterie, fruit, pastries, or appetizers. Bring one directly from the kitchen to the table, then return it to the coordinating rack when the gathering is over.

Walmart shoppers adored this “super cute” and “absolutely beautiful” set, calling it “the perfect complement to any kitchen style.”  Even lined up together parked against a backsplash, the varying sizes and natural bamboo finish give them a decorative quality that’s pretty enough to leave on display.

Ella Langley Leads Country Music to Historic First During Her Record-Setting Year

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:44pm

Ella Langley’s record-setting 2026 just added another historic achievement.

Billboard revealed its final Songs of the Summer ranking for 2026, and Langley’s smash hit “Choosin’ Texas” officially finishes the season at No. 1.

But Langley’s victory is also part of something country music has never accomplished before.

For the first time in the history of Billboard’s Songs of the Summer ranking, country songs hold all three of the top spots on the season-ending list.

“Choosin’ Texas” finishes at No. 1, followed by Taylor Swift’s “I Knew It, I Knew You” at No. 2 and Langley’s “Be Her” at No. 3.

That gives Langley two of the three biggest songs of summer 2026 while helping country music reach another unprecedented Billboard milestone.

Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart measures songs based on their cumulative performance on the Billboard Hot 100 from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This year’s ranking encompasses charts dated June 6 through Sept. 12.

And “Choosin’ Texas” was nearly impossible to catch.

The song has now spent 21 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, including 11 consecutive weeks since July 4. During the summer tracking period, it also led all songs with 407 million official U.S. streams and 124,000 downloads sold, according to Luminate.

Langley’s “Be Her,” meanwhile, peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and remained in the Top 10 every week between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The historic Songs of the Summer finish comes just weeks after Langley helped country music achieve another Billboard first. In August, the singer led country music to a Billboard first that had never happened before, when country songs swept the entire Top 5 of the Hot 100. Just days later, Langley’s record-setting year continued with three major MusicRow Awards nominations, including Female Artist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.

Related: Country Star’s New Hit Was Just Named One of the Best Songs of 2026

There’s another unusual piece of history behind Langley’s summer domination.

“Choosin’ Texas” was released in October 2025, making it a rare example of a song released the previous year going on to become Billboard’s No. 1 Song of the Summer.

In fact, according to Billboard, it is the first season-ending Songs of the Summer No. 1 in 30 years to have actually debuted on the Hot 100 during the previous year.

The last song to accomplish that was Los Del Rio’s “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix),” which debuted on the Hot 100 in September 1995 before becoming the biggest song of summer 1996.

Langley’s latest achievement continues an extraordinary year for the Alabama native.

Her sophomore album Dandelion debuted at No. 1 earlier this year, while “Choosin’ Texas” has rewritten multiple chart records. Langley also won seven ACM Awards, including Female Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Single of the Year.

And country music’s historic summer provides another sign of just how dramatically the genre’s presence on the Hot 100 has grown.

Country songs finished at Nos. 1 and 2 on Billboard’s Songs of the Summer ranking in both 2023 and 2024, while Morgan Wallen claimed Nos. 2, 3 and 4 in 2025.

In 2026, the genre finally completed the sweep.

And with “Choosin’ Texas” at No. 1 and “Be Her” at No. 3, Langley ended the summer with two of its three biggest songs.

Overlooked Taika Waititi Show, With a 99% Rotten Tomatoes Score, Ranked Among the Best TV Shows of the 21st Century

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:38pm

Regardless of location, background, race, or gender, there’s something all teenagers seem to have in common: they make hilariously dumb decisions with their friends. FX’s brilliant dramedy Reservation Dogs leaned into that idea while simultaneously dropping audiences into a setting that traditionally doesn’t get much screen time: a Native American reservation.

Related: 1939 Classic Has Generated Over $400 Million in Ticket Sales Since Last Summer

Created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo, the three-season show followed the story of a group of teenagers living on a reservation in Oklahoma who deal with traditional teen tropes, from first loves to facing bullies, and with harder topics, like the death by suicide of one of their best friends. It’s funny and poignant, and was named one of the best television shows of the 21st century by The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s not merely that Indigenous teen characters are a demographic rarely depicted on television, though they are; nor is it just that their plotlines here shrug off centuries of stereotypes about Native Americans, though they do. It’s the way these tales are told, with boundless curiosity and a freewheeling sense of experimentation,” said the ranking, placing the show at the number six spot.

Related: ‘Breathless’ Novel Wins 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

When Reservation Dogs premiered in 2001, it got rave reviews, with the AV Club saying it had “style to spare,” and praise by Time for its “authentic portrayal of one version of the modern Indigenous experience” and for “centering Native voices both behind and in front of the cameras.”

The critical darling went on to receive perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes scores for its second and third seasons, but despite that, it flew under the radar for wider audiences, with CBR calling it a “masterful yet overlooked” TV show. “Simultaneously intimate and expansive, Reservation Dogs crystallizes the humor and hardships of growing up in a world where cultural roots still matter, even if they’re disappearing,” said the outlet.

TV Insider agreed, calling it “TV’s most underrated series” in 2023, declaring during the show’s final season that “it has yet to achieve its full popularity potential.”

All three seasons of Reservation Dogs are streaming now on Hulu.

9 Years Ago, a Stephen King Adaptation Became the Highest-Grossing Horror Movie Ever — And Still Holds the Title

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:27pm

Horror movies don’t always perform well for the critics or at the box office. However, every now and then, you hear of one that excels, and that was the case nine years ago today.

On Sept. 8, 2017, the Stephen King adaptation, It, was released in theaters. It would mark 27 years since the two-part miniseries on ABC that starred Tim Curry, and once again, it would have many terrified of clowns all over again. However, this time, the adaptation did something the original couldn’t: it broke a box office record.

Over opening weekend, It pulled in $123.4 million in the United States alone. That was on a $35 million budget, immediately making it clear that this was a financial success. Worldwide, it would go on to gross $702.7 million, making it the highest-grossing horror film and the highest-grossing Stephen King adaptation (not all are classed as horror). The movie still holds the title in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Even the sequel wouldn’t be able to knock the movie off the top spot. It: Chapter 2 would only gross $4.67 million worldwide when it was released in 2019. That wouldn’t even be enough to claim second place, with Jaws holding onto second place with $4.84 million.

Despite all of this, It isn’t classed as one of the best-ever movies, and part of that could be the fact that it is terrifying horror. The King adaptations that tend to make the best-ever movies lists are the likes of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. It also pulled in just an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics saying, “It wants to be both a nostalgia-driven romp and a genuine horror film, and it ends up doing a disservice to both sides,” and “Countering the standard horror is an unusual sense of adventure, which plays nicely against the irrational courage of the kids.”

There was effort put into creating a strong remake of a 1990s classic, though. One of those was the “lazy eye effect,” which wasn’t actually an effect at all. Bill Skarsgård was able to perform the wall-eyed effect that director Andy Muschietti was going to CGI in. Even the drool was real, although that was due to the fake teeth and Muschietti encouraging Skarsgård to let the drool flow.

As with Curry’s performance, the child actors stay away from Skarsgård before filming. However, this time, it was intentional, and that helped to create a terrifying experience for the children. It was somewhat traumatic, though, with Skarsgård apologizing between takes.

It’s rare for any movie to make more than $500 million at the box office, and it’s even rarer for a horror movie to do it. It’s no wonder the prequel series Welcome to Derry was ordered.

Jana Kramer Gets Vulnerable About Co-Parenting After 'Painful' Divorce

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:23pm

Jana Kramer has never been shy about letting fans into her life, and her latest social media post continues that trend. On September 4, the 42-year-old One Tree Hill alum shared a candid rundown of what she’s learned about co-parenting since her divorce, posting it as a photo carousel on Instagram titled “A few things I’ve learned about co-parenting after divorce.”

I talk to so many of you in my DMs about co-parenting, so I thought it might be helpful to put some of what I’ve learned in one place,” she captioned her carousel of photos on Instagram. “I hope this helps someone who’s navigating it too.”

View this post on Instagram

Her first piece of advice centers on separating the emotional wreckage of a failed romantic relationship from the ongoing work of parenting together. She stresses that residual hurt from the marriage doesn’t have to dictate how two people function as a parenting team — though she’s honest that the shift takes real time.

Kramer also touched on the challenge of relinquishing control, noting that co-parents will inevitably miss milestones — games, recitals, holidays — simply because kids split time between two homes. The country star admitted that this reality never fully stops stinging, and encouraged followers not to suppress those feelings when a missed holiday or tradition hits hard emotionally.

Kramer shares two children, 10-year-old Jolie and 7-year-old Jace, with her ex-husband Mike Caussin. Their marriage’s struggles — including Caussin’s infidelity — have been well documented, both on Kramer’s podcast, Whine Down with Jana Kramer, and in her published memoir, where she detailed how the betrayals affected her sense of self.

Since then, Kramer has remarried. She and her husband, Allan Russell, who wed in 2024, are also raising a 2-year-old son, Roman, and Kramer credited Russell’s presence with reshaping her family’s dynamic for the better.

Ultimately, Kramer pointed to flexibility and mutual grace as the biggest keys to her successful co-parenting relationship with Caussin — the product, she says, of real healing and growth on both sides.

1973 Song by the Prince of Motown Was a No. 1 Hit on 2 Charts, 53 Years Ago Today

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:19pm

Fifty-three years ago today, Marvin Gaye was No. 1 in two places at once.

The week of Sept. 8, 1973, “Let’s Get It On” sat at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and at the top of Billboard’s R&B chart on the same day. It held both for two weeks.

One Chart Got There First, and Stayed Longest

The R&B side had it at No. 1 three weeks before pop did. It jumped from No. 8 to the top in a single week on the chart dated Aug. 18, and it was still sitting there the week of Sept. 22. Six weeks in all.

The Hot 100 came around later and let go sooner. The single entered that chart on July 14, reached No. 1 on Sept. 8 and held it for two weeks, out of 19 weeks on the chart altogether.

Same song, same summer. One audience was three weeks ahead of the other.

He Only Ever Had Three No. 1s

Out of 56 songs that charted on the Hot 100 across his career, Gaye put three of them at No. 1. “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” in 1968, which held seven weeks. “Let’s Get It On” in 1973, which held two. “Got to Give It Up” in 1977, which held one.

What’s Going On stopped at No. 2 in 1971. “Sexual Healing” stopped at No. 3 in 1983. Neither of the two records most often named as his best ever spent a week at the top.

It Started Somewhere Else Entirely

The song began closer to devotional, written by Ed Townsend, before Gaye reworked the lyric into what it became. It gave its name to the album it appears on.

Two charts, two weeks, 53 years ago today.

1972 Folk Rock Song, Covered by Linda Ronstadt, Is Still a Beloved Hit 54 Years Later

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:11pm

By the early 1970s, Bonnie Raitt was building a reputation for finding songs that allowed her to move effortlessly between folk, blues, rock, and country. One of the most enduring arrived from two other young songwriters.

Written by Eric Kaz and Libby Titus, “Love Has No Pride” was first recorded by Raitt for her 1972 album Give It Up. A year later, Linda Ronstadt put her own stamp on the aching ballad, bringing it to the charts and helping turn the composition into an enduring favorite.

Raitt was still near the beginning of her career when she encountered the song.

Her self-titled debut had arrived in 1971, followed the next year by Give It Up. For “Love Has No Pride,” Raitt accompanied her vocal with acoustic guitar and piano, backed by bassist Freebo. The understated arrangement kept the focus on a narrator willing to cast aside pride for another chance at a failed relationship.

Ronstadt soon recognized the song’s potential.

She recorded “Love Has No Pride” for Don’t Cry Now, her first album for Asylum Records. Her version expanded the arrangement with electric piano, steel guitar, strings, and backing vocals, giving the song a more polished country-rock setting.

“There would be something that would match something that was going on in my life—maybe not the whole song, maybe just a line, [where] I’d go, ‘That says how I feel about this better than anything else I’ve found lately. That really expresses what I need to say right now,'” Ronstadt told Vanity Fair of covering other writers’ songs. “And then you figure out a way to make the rest of the song fit.”

Released as a single in 1973, Ronstadt’s recording reached No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 23 on the Easy Listening chart. It arrived just before the enormous commercial breakthrough that would make her one of the decade’s biggest stars. The following year, Heart Like a Wheel produced hits including “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved.”

“Love Has No Pride” continued traveling between genres and performers.

Rita Coolidge, Tracy Nelson, Lynn Anderson, Daryl Braithwaite, and Rod Stewart are among the artists who have recorded it. Titus eventually released her own version in 1977, while Braithwaite turned the song into an Australian hit that same year.

“I didn’t sing ‘Love Has No Pride’ for a lot of years,” Raitt told American Songwriter. “It used to be the cornerstone of my set in the early ’70s because I cut it when I was 22. […] That’s the only one that I stopped singing. It’s not so much about feminism but [recites lyrics] love has no pride when I call out your name… I’m not putting up with that anymore. I’m not going to beg somebody to come back.”

More than five decades after Ronstadt’s rendition, the song hasn’t lost the vulnerability at its center. Raitt and Ronstadt approached it differently, but both found the quality that has allowed “Love Has No Pride” to endure: the painful recognition that heartbreak can make pride seem almost meaningless.

Ben Affleck Quietly Faced Heartbreaking Double Loss as Both Parents Died This Year

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:10pm

Hollywood star Ben Affleck has endured the loss of both of his parents in the same year, with his brother Casey Affleck revealing that their father, Timothy “Tim” Byers Affleck, died earlier in 2026.

Casey, 51, shared the family news on Tuesday while discussing his new film, Company, at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival, according to Page Six. The exact date of Tim’s death has not been publicly disclosed.

The Hollywood Reporter reported in July that their mother, Christopher “Chris” Anne Affleck, died in June at age 83 following a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Why Did Casey Affleck Dedicate ‘Company’ to His Parents?

Casey explained that Company, which he directed, co-wrote, and stars in, carries a deeply personal dedication. “It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me,” Casey said during the festival press conference, as per Page Six.

He added, “I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn’t get to. I think they would have liked it.” Casey’s sons, Indiana, 22, and Atticus, 18, also appear in the film.

What Did Casey Affleck Say About Turning Grief Into Art?

Casey said difficult experiences can become part of an artist’s work rather than something kept separate. “The good thing about being an artist, the best thing maybe, is that you can take all of the hardest experiences in your life and put it into your work, and it just makes you better,” he said.

“If you’re willing to face it all, be honest about it all and show up vulnerably with those feelings and allow for the fact that you might not be able to really fully understand them, but you’re willing to put them into what you’re making, it’s a blessing.”

What Has Ben Affleck Said About His Father?

Tim held several jobs over the years, including janitor, mechanic, and bartender. He later entered recovery after struggling with alcoholism. Ben, 54, spoke proudly about his father’s sobriety in a 2020 interview with People.

“My father has 30 years of sobriety, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what that takes and what that means,” Ben said.

The Gone Girl star, who has publicly discussed his own recovery, has also credited Tim with showing him that lasting change was possible.

Chris and Tim divorced around 1984. Ben has said his mother raised him and Casey in Massachusetts, while Tim later moved to California, according to People. Both brothers have credited their parents with encouraging their interest in the arts while making sure they understood how difficult a creative career could be.

Tim had his own artistic ambitions and once pursued playwriting. Despite periods of distance during Ben’s teenage years, father and son later rebuilt their relationship after Tim sought treatment. “My dad’s a good man,” Ben told Rolling Stone in 2004. “We have a good relationship.”

Our thoughts are with Ben, Casey, and the entire Affleck family as they mourn this deeply personal loss.

Self-Monitoring Security: What Happens if You Miss the Alert?

Tue, 09/08/2026 - 3:00pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

A security notification arrives while you’re in a meeting. Your phone is on silent while you sleep. You’re driving, helping the kids with homework or simply have dozens of other alerts competing for your attention. If that notification is an alarm from your home, the consequences of missing it are different from missing a text. That raises a practical question for homeowners: Do I need professional monitoring?

Self-monitoring gives you control and may be enough for some households. But it also makes you the person responsible for noticing the alert, determining what happened and contacting emergency services when necessary. Professional monitoring adds another layer: trained monitoring personnel are available around the clock to respond when you cannot.

If you want a professional assessment of your home’s security needs, ADT offers free quotes and inspections so you can discuss your options with a security professional.

What Are the Dangers of Self-Monitored Security Systems?

The main danger of a self-monitored security system is a delayed response. An alert only protects you if you notice it and act on it. During sleep, work, travel or periods of distraction, a homeowner may not see or respond to a notification quickly. Professional monitoring shifts that responsibility to a monitoring center that can respond 24/7.

Your Phone Is Not a Dedicated Alarm Center

Research on smartphone notifications illustrates the problem. A study of nearly 10 million notifications from 922 people found that response times vary by time of day and other factors. Notifications are also competing for attention with everything else happening on a phone.

Another study found that phone notifications disrupted performance on an attention-demanding task even when participants did not interact with the phone. This matters because a self-monitored security system puts an important decision in the same place as work messages, calls, social media and other alerts.

A missed notification does not necessarily mean something bad will happen. It means there is no professional responder watching the alarm if you don’t see it.

What Happens When You Miss a Security Alert?

With self-monitoring, the system can notify your phone, but you remain responsible for deciding what happens next. If you do not respond, emergency services generally are not contacted automatically by the security system.

ADT states this distinction directly: with self-monitoring, alarms are not sent to authorities; with professional monitoring, its monitoring stations receive alarm notifications and can alert emergency services.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends that consumers ask security companies exactly what happens when an alarm occurs, including whether the company contacts you first and what happens if it cannot reach you. That is a useful question for any homeowner comparing systems.

You generally make the call

Exact response procedures vary by provider, alarm type and local requirements, so read the monitoring agreement before signing.

Is Professional Monitoring Worth It if You Already Have Cameras?

Yes, if the goal is to have someone respond when you cannot.

Cameras are useful for checking what is happening at home. But a camera does not eliminate the need to notice an alert. You still have to open the notification, view the footage, assess the situation and decide what to do. Professional monitoring addresses that gap.

ADT says its professionally monitored systems notify its monitoring centers when an alarm occurs. Depending on the service and equipment, monitoring can include intrusion, fire, carbon monoxide and flood events. ADT also assures that its monitoring network uses multiple company-operated monitoring centers for redundancy. That distinction becomes more significant when the homeowner is unavailable.

When Self-Monitoring Creates the Biggest Gap

Self-monitoring deserves closer scrutiny if your household regularly has periods when nobody is watching the phone.

Common examples include:

  • Overnight: Your phone may be silenced, charging in another room or ignored while you sleep.
  • At work: Meetings and focused work make immediate responses unrealistic.
  • While traveling: You may be in an area with limited connectivity or unable to deal with an alarm promptly.
  • During emergencies: Stress makes it harder to process information and decide what to do.
  • When several people share responsibility: Everyone may assume someone else saw the alert.

The problem is less about whether a security system detects an event and more about what happens after detection.

What Should You Ask Before Choosing Professional Monitoring?

Professional monitoring is a service, so the details matter. The FTC advises homeowners to compare monitoring costs, contract terms, installation arrangements and what happens when the company cannot reach the homeowner. It also recommends checking whether local police or fire departments require alarm registration or impose false-alarm fees.

Ask these questions before committing:

  1. Who receives the alarm first?
  2. What happens if I don’t answer?
  3. Which emergencies are monitored?
  4. What happens during a power or internet outage?
  5. What backup communication methods are used?
  6. Are there local alarm-registration requirements or fees?
  7. What are the contract, equipment and cancellation terms?

A reputable provider should be able to answer these questions in writing.

How ADT Professional Monitoring Works

ADT describes its professional monitoring service as a 24/7 operation. When an alarm triggers, ADT says its monitoring agents are notified and can verify the alarm and alert emergency services. Its SMART Monitoring service also sends the customer a text that can be used to verify or cancel an alarm. According to ADT, “our monitoring professionals are always there” to respond when an alarm triggers, day or night.

That does not mean every alarm results in an automatic emergency dispatch. False alarms and local response requirements still matter. Local authorities may impose false-alarm fees or penalties, depending on the jurisdiction and circumstances.

If you’ve been relying on a phone notification alone and are questioning whether that setup is enough, a professional assessment can clarify what coverage your home actually needs.

Do I Need Professional Monitoring?

If you need security coverage that does not depend entirely on you noticing and responding to a phone alert, professional monitoring is the stronger option. Self-monitoring leaves detection and response with the homeowner. Professional monitoring adds a staffed response layer that remains available when you’re asleep, occupied or away.

ADT can assess your home’s layout and security needs and provide a free quote and inspection. That gives you a chance to compare professional monitoring with your current setup before deciding whether to make a change.
