There’s always that one point during summer when getting dressed starts feeling like work. The temperatures climb, humidity kicks in and suddenly even your favorite clothes feel too heavy for everyday life. That’s usually when lightweight basics become the real stars of the season.

Over the last few years, more shoppers have started leaning into easy, breathable fashion pieces that balance comfort and style without looking overly athletic or overly dressed up. And honestly, this trend makes sense. Most people want clothes that can move through an entire day, whether that means running errands, grabbing lunch, traveling or simply trying to stay cool during another brutally hot afternoon.

Personally, I’ve gotten to the point where I appreciate clothes that feel effortless more than anything. If I can throw something on with a simple T-shirt and still feel put together enough to leave the house confidently, that’s usually a sign the piece is doing its job.

5-inch Linen Blend Easy Shorts, $29.90 at Uniqlo

UNIQLO

Shop It!

That’s exactly why the Linen Blend Easy Shorts from Uniqlo caught my attention. Priced at $29.90, these shorts feel designed specifically for those long summer days where comfort matters just as much as looking good.

One of the biggest standout features is the linen and cotton blend fabric. Linen naturally gives clothing that crisp, airy summer texture people love, while cotton helps soften the overall feel so the shorts stay comfortable enough for everyday wear. Together, the combination creates a lightweight feel that works especially well during warmer weather.

I also really like the versatility of these shorts. These don’t feel limited to one type of outfit or occasion. You could easily pair them with a relaxed T-shirt for a casual coffee run, throw on a lightweight button down for dinner outdoors or even wear them around the house while lounging on the weekend. That flexibility is what makes simple wardrobe staples so valuable during summer.

The 5-inch inseam gives the shorts a cleaner, more modern silhouette without feeling overly short. Lightweight shorts like these also tend to feel less bulky compared to heavier midweight styles, which makes a noticeable difference once temperatures start climbing.

Comfort details matter too, and these check a lot of boxes. The elastic waistband with adjustable drawstring allows for a more flexible fit, while the front slide fastener closure keeps the overall look polished. And thankfully, the pockets are functional enough for daily essentials like your phone, keys or wallet.

What stands out most to me is how timeless these feel. Trends come and go every summer, but breathable neutral basics usually stay in rotation because they simply work. These shorts don’t scream for attention, and that’s honestly part of the appeal.

For under $30, these feel like one of those practical summer finds that quietly becomes a go-to piece you'll reach for each season.

1970 Rock Anthem Became One of the 'Top Drinking Songs of All Time' Despite Never Reaching No. 1

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:53pm

While the best drinking songs don't have to actually be about drinking, it helps if there's at least some kind of reference to alcohol in the lyrics. Not only does Eric Burdon & War's classic "Spill the Wine" mention booze right there in the title, but the lyrics are the kind that only start to make sense after you've had a few glasses of something.

Released in 1970, "Spill the Wine" was War's first Billboard hit, peaking at #3 on the Hot 100 on August 22 of that year, and ended up being their biggest success ever. As the name implies, the tune was actually inspired by a glass of wine that spilled onto a console in the recording studio.

'The way I remember it, most of the band had taken a lunch break and I was lying on my back having a five minute nap in the studio," Burdon recalled in a 2008 interview with Get Ready to Rock.

"The producer Jerry Goldstein more or less put a mic down my throat and I started singing while Lonnie [Jordan] put a backing track down on keyboards," Burdon continued. "I think the rest was overdubbed later on."

As for what Burdon is singing about, that's a question fans have wondered about for decades. The song seems to be about somebody falling asleep in a field and dreaming about an "overfed, long-haired leaping gnome," being taken to the "hall of a Mountain king" and encouraged by a mysterious "lady" to "spill the wine, take that pearl." Throughout the tune, a woman can be heard speaking Spanish in the background.

“I guess it was my homage to Mexico (maybe Mexican women) and the feeling I got when I was there," Burdon said. "It was Old World Mexico, nothing to do with the Americanized version now."

'Spill the Wine' was originally meant to be a B-side

“The funny thing was that it was originally going to be the B-side to a song called ‘Magic Mountain,'" Burdon explained. "That song was basically about a Californian mountain called Mount Tamalpais, and back in the hippie days we all used to go up there and hang out. But the DJs wouldn’t play the song because they wrongly assumed the lyrics were all about sex and drugs. So as a consequence ‘Spill the Wine’ became the song that they played.”

As it turned out, "Spill the Wine" might have been the best choice for a single anyway. Years later, Burdon still seemed amazed by the song's popularity.

'I was very surprised not only at the original success, but especially after the way it came about and also the fact that it continues to be played now and is still in people's minds," Burdon said, noting, "'Spill the Wine' still appears in film soundtracks and pops up everywhere."

Indeed. Not only has "Spill the Wine" been featured prominently in movies and TV shows like Boogie Nights, Dexter and Shameless, it's become a go-to for inebriated singalongs the world over. "Spill the Wine" was ranked at #27 on Billboard's list of "100 Best Drinking Songs of All Time," which called the track a "woozy story [that] wraps with wine bottles emptied and figurative pearls taken."

Where were those pearls taken, and who took them? Was it a long-haired gnome? We may never know.

Gene Hackman Was ‘Ashamed’ of His Role in This ‘70s Disaster Film

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:41pm

Gene Hackman is considered by many to be one of the best actors of all time, but there is one film that he never watched his performance back in.

According to Far Out Magazine, Gene spent his life avoiding watching The Poseidon Adventure. Despite being considered one of the best films in the disaster movie genre and earning multiple award nominations, Gene felt that something went wrong during its making and that he may have signed on for the wrong reasons.

“That was my idea of being a Hollywood movie actor,” he told The Guardian. “When I was working on it, I was kind of ashamed of myself. I had to have my hair poufed up at the end and slicked over. And the producer, Irwin Allen, was one of those guys who used to comb his hair from one ear across the top of his head, and I just didn’t want to look like him.”

Kino. Die Höllenfahrt der Poseidon, (THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE) USA, 1972, Regie: Ronald Neame, ERNEST BORGNINE, GENE HACKMAN, Stichwort: Leiter, Tunnel. (Photo by FilmPublicityArchive/United Archives via Getty Images)

The 1972 adventure film stars Hackman as Reverend Frank Scott alongside an all-star cast including Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters and Roddy McDowall. Directed by Ronald Neame, The Poseidon Adventure centres on a fictional luxury liner which is overturned by a wave. Hackman's preacher must lead a group of survivors to safety as the ship falls apart around them.

Ben Stiller occasionally tells the story about the time he told Hackman how much he loved the disaster film, only or his The Royal Tenenbaums co-star to bluntly respond with: “Oh yeah. Money job.”

As much as Gene struggles with The Poseidon Adventure, he at least managed to escape the poorly received sequel, Beyond the Poseidon Adventure, which instead starred Michael Caine on a fatal journey across the sea.

Best-Selling Author’s Debut Named Favorite Enemies-to-Lovers Novel by the ‘Queen of Beach Reads’

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:39pm

Bestselling author Emily Henry is the queen of beach reads. From her aptly titled Beach Read to her last-chance romance People We Meet on Vacation, the woman knows how to construct a page-turning love story.

Which is probably why The New York Times recruited Henry to recommend a handful of enemies-to-lovers novels for us all to devour this summer.

View this post on Instagram

Topping Henry’s list is a gem from Sally Thorne called The Hating Game. Originally published in 2016, the story follows Lucy and Joshua, two executive assistants vying for the same job. Bitter rivals, the two embark on a game of passive-aggressive stunts before the pair ultimately turn their hate into something else that steams up the office.

“Reading this novel is like viewing the concept of a ‘crush’ through a fun house mirror,” Henry shared. “With a punchy, effortlessly fun voice, Thorne makes a compelling case that the line between love and hate might be flimsier than we think.”

Thorne's instant best seller received the big-screen treatment in 2021, with Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell starring. No stranger to Hollywood phone calls, Henry has also seen her romance lit transferred to the screen.

Both People We Meet on Vacation and Beach Read have film adaptations — the former courtesy of Netflix and the latter in the works with Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor and The White LotusPatrick Schwarzenegger in the leading literary-rival roles.

Other books on Henry’s list include Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin, Seven Days in June by Tia Williams, and Lady Like by Mackenzi Lee.

New Wave Icon, 71, Sounds ‘Simply Amazing’ Singing His 1979 Breakthrough Hit

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:37pm

There are few songs that define the New Wave sound of the early ’80s like "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" by Joe Jackson.

Joe Jackson’s 1979 hit, originally released in 1978 and then re-released a year later, is defined not only by its catchy pop hooks and sarcastic social commentary, but also by its call-and-response lyrics that make the audience’s response to Jackson’s line "Look over there" an integral part of the performance.

Forty-seven years after "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" climbed the charts and catapulted Jackson to international stardom, the British singer is still delivering pitch-perfect performances of his timeless tale of love, jealousy, and sharp observation.

Recent video shared to social media from Jackson’s Hope and Fury 2026 tour stop in Poughkeepsie, NY, shows a standout performance of his most notable hit.

Joe Jackson’s 1979 Hit Still Captivates Fans With Its Call-and-Response Energy and Timeless Voice

Wearing his signature sport coat and pocket square (he didn’t name his most popular album Look Sharp! for nothing), Jackson’s energetic and youthful appearance belies his years. Accompanied by just an electric piano, the singer effortlessly belts out the song’s lyrics, encouraging the audience to join in.

"Look over there," Jackson sings.

"Where?" the audience responds.

"Here comes Jeannie with her new boyfriend," he replies, much to the delight of the crowd.

On and on, Jackson sings playfully in conversation with his fans, eagerly awaiting their next lyric as much as his own.

Viewers weren’t just nostalgic for decades gone by; social media commenters also praised Joe Jackson’s timeless appeal. His voice, his look, all bring audiences back to New Wave’s heyday while still showcasing catchy pop melodies and lyrics that remain as powerful today as when they were first released in 1978.

"Wow, he sounds simply amazing. Bringing me back to when the sun was so popular," one fan shared.

Another added, "One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. And I’m not talking about the ’80s… much more recent than that."

Rather than relying solely on nostalgia, Joe Jackson manages to transport audiences back in time while still remaining completely relevant today. At its core, "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" is about longing for love and the contrast between insecurity and smug observation when viewing relationships from the outside.

The song still feels relevant thanks to Jackson’s crisp, controlled voice. His ability to sound conversational and slightly provocative at the same time hasn’t faded with time.

No wonder the audience still knows all the words. Do you?

15 Discontinued Fast-Food Burgers We Are Still Begging Them to Bring Back

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:35pm

In the fast-food world, it’s not at all uncommon for businesses to take a big swing on a new menu item. And when it comes to fast-food burgers, there's been no shortage of hits, flops and head-scratchers released over the years (with a handful of scandals and lawsuits mixed in for good measure).

As the majority of experimental fast-food burgers tend to be destined for discontinuation, or at the very least a short marketing run (here’s looking at you, McJordan Burger), it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what leads to every fast-food burger swing’s eventual demise. And even though a select few manage to quickly earn themselves a cult following in their wake, some of the most iconic still struggle to get back on the menu to this day.

🍳 SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & fun food news in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter 🍳

The act of reinventing the burger is still very much alive, though, as nostalgia and a general desire for something new and exciting are a big part of what draws fans to their favorite fast-food joints. With places like McDonald’s reimagining old favorites like the Arch Deluxe and longtime cult classics continuing to dominate online conversations even years after their official exits, it's clear some of those big swings are totally worth revisiting.

15 Discontinued Fast-Food Burgers

In honor of the fallen heroes of decades past and our undying craving for something new and exciting, we’ve rounded up the 15 discontinued fast-food burgers we are still waiting to make a comeback. And while sometimes a big swing results in an equally big miss, with a little bit of creativity and a healthy dose of nostalgia, you never know which of the following burgers might see the light of day again.

1. McDLT View this post on Instagram

Introduced in 1985, the McDLT came in a two-compartment Styrofoam container that kept the “hot side hot” and the “cool side cool.” It was designed to keep the beef patty separate from the lettuce and tomato to avoid hot, soggy vegetables, with customers assembling it themselves when they were ready to eat.

Despite being discontinued due in part to rising environmental concerns around Styrofoam at the time, the McDLT’s packaging innovation also became a defining part of the burger’s identity. Today, it still holds a special place in the hearts of fans who were there for its limited run.

2. Arch Deluxe View this post on Instagram

Debuting back in 1996 and not to be confused with the current McDonald’s menu option the Big Arch Burger, the Arch Deluxe was marketed as more of a “grown-up” burger option at the time. It came with a distinctive mustard-mayo sauce and a softer potato-flour bun, and it was designed to offer an elevated burger experience that transcended fast food.

Despite an ambitious national advertising campaign, the Arch Deluxe’s premium price tag proved to be too high for consumers, demolishing its chance of becoming a permanent option and ultimately getting the axe.

3. Big N’ Tasty

First launched in 1997 as a limited release, the Big N’ Tasty featured a quarter-pound beef patty, lettuce, tomato and special sauce on a classic sesame seed bun, originally retailing for a whopping $0.99.

By the time it was removed from menus in 2011, it had long since earned its status as a staple in the lineup, despite prices rising to roughly $2.99 by the end of its run. Still to this day, fans online continue to call for its return, making it a strong contender for some sort of future reboot.

4. Son of Mac

Seemingly taking cue from Wendy’s and Burger King by creating a smaller version of its most iconic burger, the Son of Mac came stacked with all the same ingredients as its iconic regular-sized counterpart and sold for about $2.50. Also known as the Mac Jr., it first hit markets in 2017 and only lasted about a year on U.S. menus. Perhaps just a little bit ahead of its time, the Son of Mac today could do wonders if it was re-released under its Mac Jr. alias and priced accordingly.

5. Cheddar Melt

Released as a limited-time offering that took a noticeable detour from the rest of the burger lineup, the Cheddar Melt is easily one of those McDonald's options that leaves you wondering how it never earned a permanent spot on the menu. Combining melty cheddar sauce, a thick burger patty and grilled onions on a soft rye bun, it quickly earned itself a loyal fanbase after debuting in 1988.

6. Pico Guacamole Burger

As part of the McDonald’s Signature Crafted Recipes menu that launched in 2017, the Pico Guacamole Burger was one of the Golden Arches’ many attempts at cornering the gourmet burger market. Made with your choice of beef, grilled chicken or buttermilk crispy chicken, it came topped with a dollop of guacamole mixed with pico de gallo, ranch dressing, white cheddar and lettuce.

Receiving mixed reviews from fans, it ultimately got nixed from the menu after a roughly two-year run, with the chain citing customer feedback as the reason for its removal.

7. Whopperito View this post on Instagram

The Whopperito is what happens when you get the novel idea to put the contents of a Whopper inside of a tortilla instead of its usual bun. Released in 2016 as one of Burger King’s more questionable food experiments, the Whopperito seems like it could have done pretty well under the right circumstances. However, despite online buzz and curiosity surrounding its limited release, reviews were still very mixed, leading to its eventual removal from the menu.

8. Turkey Burger

Released in 2013 as part of Burger King’s Festival of Burgers, the Turkey Burger was met with harsh reviews due to its lack of nutritional value. Yup, you read that right. While you’d think a turkey burger at a fast-food restaurant would at least be one of the “healthier” options on the menu, this one actually contained more fat and calories than Burger King’s own Double Cheeseburger and Whopper Jr. with Cheese. On top of that, each one packed more than half the recommended daily sodium intake, fully undermining its so-called healthier appeal.

9. Burger Shots

Hopping on the slider trend of the time, Burger King released Burger Shots in 2008, which were tiny flame-broiled burgers served in pairs and topped with ketchup, mustard and pickles. Considered by fans as simply a miniature take on the Whopper, these tiny burgers were as much a novelty as they were convenient, though their reputation quickly shifted toward a lack of flavor and overall appeal.

With brands like White Castle dominating the fast-food slider market, Burger Shots simply did not sell as well as higher-ups likely hoped, resulting in their eventual removal from menus despite still garnering a bit of a nostalgic cult following in the late 2000s.

10. Hot Mess Burger

Part of a limited-time Jack in the Box release back in 2013, the Hot Mess Burger’s name alone didn’t leave much to be discovered. Starting with a soft sourdough bun, this sucker came stacked with a jumbo beef patty, white cheese sauce, shredded pepper jack cheese, pickled jalapeños and crispy onion rings.

Deliciously messy and over the top in the best way possible, the Hot Mess Burger and its various “Hot Mess” menu items were backed by an indulgently memorable ad campaign that leaned into the idea that it wasn’t for everyone. After a short run, it was eventually cut from menus, leaving a hole in the hearts of fans who embraced its chaotic mix of flavors.

11. Mini Sirloin Burgers

Not one to be left out of the burger conversation, Jack in the Box has had its fair share of swings over the years. In 2009, however, the chain tried its hand at sliders with Mini Sirloin Burgers, a trio of tiny burgers that sold for $3.89. Each one came topped with American cheese, grilled onions and ketchup, and they included a bun that was not much different from a sweet Hawaiian dinner roll.

While Mini Sirloin Burgers sounded like a great addition to the menu on paper, they weren’t exactly the most memorable item at the time, with many consumers likely remembering the hilarious marketing campaign more than the burgers themselves.

12. Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger

Easily one of Wendy’s more creative takes on the burger, the Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger released in 2023 and only had a short window to win over fans. It came piled high with a beef patty, melted cheese, spicy chipotle sauce, tortilla strips and corn, all locked between a jalapeño cheddar bun for a little extra spice.

Despite receiving a lot of media attention, its bad reviews eventually outweighed the good, and Wendy’s nixed it altogether in 2024.

13. Bacon and Blue Burger

Yet another one of Wendy’s creative swings, the Bacon and Blue Burger debuted as part of the chain’s push toward more premium flavors. It came stacked with applewood-smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, sautéed onions and a creamy steakhouse-style sauce, all on a toasted bun for $4.25.

Despite its ambitious flavor profile, it struggled to hold up against similar burgers sold outside of fast-food restaurants. On top of that, the blue cheese crumbles proved to be a bit strong for some customers, making it more of a polarizing menu item than an exciting new discovery. It was eventually pulled from menus after a short run, but it still remains a fan-favorite for some to this day.

14. Taco Bell Beefer

Truly borderline burger territory, the Taco Bell Beefer looked more like a Sloppy Joe than anything else, solidifying it as one of the brand’s most unexpected experiments. Released originally in 1962 as a “Chili Burger” and rebranded by the end of the decade as the Bell Beefer, it combined seasoned ground beef, diced onions, lettuce and a mild sauce served on a traditional hamburger bun.

After enjoying steady popularity before beginning to fizzle out by the 1980s, it was eventually removed from menus, though it did have a limited comeback in the 2010s before disappearing again without much of a peep since.

15. Beyond Thickburger

Fast food is historically tough for those who don't eat meat. In recent years, however, things have started to shift in a more inclusive direction, with a number of plant-based options slowly making their way onto menus. One of the most notable in recent years? The Beyond Thickburger, which debuted at both Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. in 2019 before quietly disappearing from menus not long after.

With patties made entirely from plant proteins, the Beyond Thickburger existed as a vegan version of the chain’s classic Thickburger, topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion and your choice of condiments.

Why These Burgers Aren't Coming Back

While it’s impossible to know if a discontinued burger is truly never coming back, some reasons are much more obvious than others. Some burgers failed to meet consumer expectations, while others simply just missed their mark entirely. And while a select few fell victim to public outrage or were discontinued to make room for something new, that doesn't mean there isn't room for a reboot should the stars align just right.

With the way consumer spending habits are changing as food prices continue to rise, fast-food chains are constantly looking for new ways to encourage return visitors. For many brands, it makes more sense to stick to the core menu items that reliably drive sales and sprinkle in limited-edition drops rather than take a big swing on something new and permanent.

That said, there’s still a big market for bringing back old favorites, so while the above fast-food burgers technically aren't coming back, there's always a chance something special is being cooked up behind the scenes.

Why Chains Prefer Temporary Hype Over Permanent Classics

Finding new items on today’s fast-food menu feels more like taking part in a limited-edition drop than actually discovering a new go-to favorite. Instead, you get collaborations like McDonald’s and KPop Demon Hunters, for example, which used the popularity of a major movie release to generate hype around limited-time menu items like seasoned fries and special sauces.

Much like the average streetwear drop, exclusivity and urgency are a huge part of what makes a fast-food release feel successful. And despite constant calls for chains to bring back fan-favorite menu items from the past, it’s easy to see why limited-time releases continue to dominate the fast-food world. The strategy clearly works when it comes to getting people in the door, but it can sometimes overshadow the charm of original creations that could have earned a cult following on their own.

The "Secret Menu" Hacks: Can You Still Recreate the Big N’ Tasty?

While some legendary burgers of the past might not make it onto modern-day menus, that doesn’t mean you’re entirely out of luck. Thanks to the internet, there’s an ever-growing wave of copycat recipes you can tap into that help fans recreate their fast-food favorites at home.

Take the McDonald’s Big N’ Tasty, for example. While the original recipe varied slightly depending on the region, you can make it easily with just a handful of simple ingredients found at your local grocery store.

To recreate the Big N’ Tasty, start by seasoning a quarter-pound beef patty with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, then cook it on a hot skillet or grill until it’s done to your liking. Next, toast a sesame seed bun while the patty rests and the pan is still hot.

To assemble, layer the bottom bun with your choice of American or Swiss cheese, followed by the beef patty, two slices of tomato, a couple of roughly cut dill pickles, shredded lettuce and diced sweet onion. You can even mix ketchup and mayonnaise together for a quick copycat sauce and spread it on the top bun before closing the burger.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper copycat meal without a side of homemade shoestring fries tossed generously in salt, now would it?

From the McDonald’s Big N’ Tasty to the Taco Bell Beefer, these discontinued fast-food burgers still live rent-free in our minds. Here's hoping at least a few of the burgers on this list make a comeback, even if just for a limited time.

Son of a Legendary '80s Rocker Dating Daughter of an Iconic '80s Supermodel

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:29pm

A certain Gen Z celebrity couple has made low-key headlines in the past few years, but many Gen X and millennial fans have yet to put two and two together. Elijah Hewson, 26—son of lead singer and songwriter Bono of the rock band U2 and his wife Ali Hewson—and Grace Burns, 22—daughter of supermodel Christy Turlington and actor and director Ed Burns—are a couple. In a sweet collision of two iconic ’80s worlds, these celeb "babies" have apparently been a romantic item since 2023.

Both Bono, 66, and Christy Turlington, 57, helped define pop culture during the MTV and supermodel eras of the 1980s and ’90s. Bono and U2 dominated the music scene throughout early '80s, and even the most casual listeners were swept up by the band’s groundbreaking 1987 album The Joshua Tree. Meanwhile, Turlington became one of the defining faces of high fashion as a top model for Calvin Klein, helping shape the era's iconic supermodel phenomenon.

Bono and Turlington have reportedly been friends for decades and frequently collaborate in the music, fashion, and philanthropy spaces.

Elijah Hewson has followed his dad into music. He is the frontman and lead singer of Inhaler, a four-piece rock band from Dublin. The band has three studio albums, the latest being their 2025 album Open Wide. While Hewson has an Instagram presence with over 107K followers, it's currently pretty quiet, so you'll find more of the latest on Inhaler's Instagram.

Here's the top-performing YouTube video from Inhaler's Open Wide album (hear any Bono influence?):

Publicly, Grace Burns is slightly more understated. She published a book of love poems called Derived From Us in 2024, and she just graduated from New York University on May 15. She, too, has followed in one of her cool parents' footsteps—she does modeling and shares her work regularly on her personal Instagram, which has over 100K followers.

See photos from Grace's recent college graduation (including a cute one with Elijah!) and read mom Christy Turlington's sweet words about her daughter:

View this post on Instagram

While the young love story between Hewson and Burns has been fairly quiet publicly, they've reportedly been romantically linked since 2023. It's a low-profile and low-drama relationship, and many fans, particularly fans of their parents, are only recently connecting the dots.

It's always fun, and a little mind-blowing, watching our favorite celebrities' kids grow up and become their own humans. In a case like this one, our ties to their parents' legacies quickly connect our interest to the next generation. Sorry not sorry!

Decades after Bono and Christy Turlington became defining figures of music and fashion history, their kids' relationship is giving fans one more unexpected pop-culture crossover to smile about.

Here's a sweet photo of Grace Burns and Elijah Hewson last year at Cannes, celebrating the premiere of Hewson's dad's film Bono: Stories of Surrender, which is streaming on Apple:

Beloved Days of Our Lives star Deidre Hall shared an update on her admirer, Hollywood A-lister Ryan Gosling, who will be visiting the Peacock set.

Hall is celebrating her 50th anniversary with Days of Our Lives, playing Dr. Marlena Evans. Access Hollywood caught up with Hall on the set of the hit Peacock soap, where a celebration worthy of the daytime queen was underway.

In the interview, Hall was asked about her burgeoning friendship with Gosling, which began when he gushed about his love for the daytime vet. Gosling gave Hall mad props while promoting his movie Project Hail Mary, sharing his admiration not just for her but for all soap stars.

“Oh my gosh. How cute is he, first of all? Stop, you know. That was completely unexpected,” she expressed.

Hall, in return, extended Gosling an open invitation to visit her on the Days of Our Lives, which he graciously accepted. The Hollywood star explained that Hall was his acting inspiration and would be thrilled to see her in her element.

Gosling’s wife, Eva Mendes, also joined in on the fun and fully endorsed her husband heading to Salem.

“I have been in touch with Eva, and she’s amazing and generous and kind and thoughtful. I hope we all get to be toe to toe at some point,” the soap star shared.

On June 21, 1776, Hall made her debut as Marlena. The soap will be on summer hiatus then, so the cast and crew gathered for a special celebration to honor Hall.

Several of her co-stars have gushed over Hall, and her major milestone, like Eric Martsolf (Brady), who recalled the hug Hall gave him on his first day on set.

Five decades in and Hall has no plans to leave Salem anytime soon. In fact, she told Access Hollywood, “I will be here as long as my keycard opens the gate.”

Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on Peacock.

1997 Graphic Novel by Author Whose Work Was Banned in the Second Grade Was One of the Most Banned Books of the 2000s

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:06pm

For almost 30 years, Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey has entertained and helped children around the world.

That nearly wasn't the case. According to the American Library Association, the Captain Underpants series was one of the most banned or challenged books between 2000 and 2009. It ranks in 13th place, behind the Harry Potter series, the Alice series, and even The Perks of Being a Wallflower!

The attempts to stifle Pilkey's imagination didn't start with the graphic novels, though. His Second Grade teacher took a piece of work off him, so he always knew that he could be challenged and tested if he went into this line of work. It didn't stop him, though.

When asked about why his books were likely banned, Pilkey hasn't really understood why. According to a 2015 article, he explained that they "contain no sex, no profanity, no nudity, no drugs, and no graphic violence (well, nothing more violent than you’d see in a Tom and Jerry cartoon or a Three Stooges short.)"

The problem is that they encourage defiance, and we can't possibly teach children that it's okay to say "no" or to question authority. That was never his intention, though. His main focus has always been on giving children something interesting to read, so that they actually pick up a book!

"Graphic novels are a great way to introduce reading to kids because all the text is broken up," CBC reported in 2025, "If there's a word that you don't quite get, you can look at the picture … and so it's a great way for kids to learn vocabulary words. I put a lot of tough vocabulary words in the Dog Man books, but I try not to put too many words on each page so that kids don't get overwhelmed."

Pilkey takes his work seriously because he knows that it's important for children to read. He knows that it's important to find a way to make something difficult a lot of fun, as that's the only way to keep them coming back.

He understands this personally, as he grew up with ADHD in a time when it wasn't usually diagnosed. There wasn't even a term for it, except maybe "hyperactivity," so it was frustrating for Pilkey's teachers, his parents, and even himself. He didn't want to be known as the troublemaker or a bad kid, though, so when he would go through his timeouts, he'd draw. That led to him creating the worlds of Captain Underpants and Dogman, and the rest is history.

Iconic Rock Guitarist Names His Pick For 'The Greatest Country Song of All Time'

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 6:05pm

Jack White is one of the most emblematic figures of 2000s rock music.

Coming to prominence with his band The White Stripes, White ushered in a lot of the raw, loud, unpolished sound that the 2000s would be known for. The band was a scrappy, unfiltered, and exciting success that cemented them as one of the iconic groups of the era.

In a post-White-Stripes-world, White has had a lengthy solo career where he still innovates on rock music to this day. With his efforts over the years, he has undoubtedly cemented himself as an icon of the genre.

What a lot of people might not know about White is that he is also someone who is deeply rooted within American music as a whole. White is an avid music collector, owning Elvis Presley's first recordings ever, James Brown's drivers license, and Lead Belly's New York City arrest record. He is a student of musical history, and has a reach far beyond rock music.

That's why I wasn't surprised to see White be so knowledgeable with country music in this video below. White was asked to give his pick for the greatest country song of all time, to which he gave two answers.

@axstv

"Cold, Cold Heart" by Hank Williams, and "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin'" by Loretta Lynn. Both great and foundational songs to country music as whole. Both artists helped to shape the popular sound of the genre and expanded the songwriting associated with country music.

Fans took to the comments to share some of their picks for the greatest country song ever:

"Wichita Lineman. No contest. Ode to the American blue collar worker."

"'If You See Me Getting Smaller,' Waylon Jennings."

"I agree….Hank Williams and Loretta Lynn…..but I love 'Wichita Lineman.'"

It's great to see our favorite artists be fans just like us. Country music has a wealth of great hits, and everyone will have their own favorite, just like Jack White.

1976 No. 1 Classic Rock Hit Was Written to 'Kick Pink Floyd in the Butt'

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:56pm

What inspires a songwriter? It seems like most of the time, an emotion like love is the driving force behind a song...but in the case of one classic '70s hit, it was the desire to blow a rival rock band off the stage.

Released as the second single from Steve Miller Band's ninth studio album, Fly Like an Eagle, "Rock'n Me" peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Nov. 6, 1976, and went on to become a classic rock staple. But initially, Steve Miller had just one motive in mind when he sat down to pen the tune.

As Miller explained to Uncle Joe Benson on the Ultimate Classic Rock Nights radio show, it all started when he was asked to open for Pink Floyd at the 1975 Knebworth festival near London, England.

“I kept trying to turn down the gig,” Miller recalled. “I said, ‘I don’t have a band. I don’t wanna do this. This is a bad time for me. I’m in the midst of recording...' They just kept saying, ‘Well, how about some more? How about if we paid you this much? If that wouldn’t be enough would this be enough?’ Finally I decided, ‘Well, this would be enough! Yeah, I can take a little break to do this!’”

Miller contacted a few musicians he'd been working with — Les Dudek, Lonnie Turner and Doug Clifford — and asked them if they would be interested in an "all-expenses-paid vacation to London to go do a Knebworth festival with Pink Floyd."

“They came over to the house, where we rehearsed for one afternoon. We got on a plane, flew to London and played to 120,000 people," Miller continued. "I had thought about the gig and I knew the way it was going to work was, I was going to play just before Pink Floyd...The sun would be going down. It would be really cold. There wouldn’t be any lights on the stage. It would be a lousy time...I went, ‘You know, I’m gonna kick those guys in the butt.’ So, what I did was, I wrote ‘Rock’n Me’ as a song to play at a festival, to just get it going.”

'Rock'n Me' has been streamed hundreds of millions of times

Just as Miller hoped it would, “Rock’n Me” “ripped the joint up.”

"They just loved us," Miller said, adding that the audience's reaction made him think, "‘Maybe we oughta record this one? This might be a good one to put on the record.’”

Of course, recording the tune turned out to be a wise move. In a 1976 review of the song, Billboard called it a "catchy and highly humorous midtempo rocker," comparing the melody to something by the Beach Boys or The Eagles.

All these years later, the song is just as popular as ever: At the time of this writing, "Rock'n Me" has been streamed over 200 million times on Spotify alone.

1979 Hit Film With Farewell Show From Classic Rock Legend Ranked Among ‘Greatest Music Films’ of All Time

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:44pm

There are some concerts so monumental that they require an entire documentary dedicated to their legacy. That was the case with this historic rockumentary centered on '70s glam-rock icon David Bowie.

In January, BBC Music ranked the top 11 greatest rock music films, compiling a list of the best works in cinema to incorporate the beloved genre. Ranked among classics such as D.A. Pennebaker’s 1967 documentary Don't Look Back at No. 10 and Ken Russell’s 1975 adaptation Tommy at No. 8, Pennebaker’s 1979 film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars secured the No. 9 spot.

The film originally premiered on August 31, 1979, at the Edinburgh Film Festival before receiving a wider theatrical and home release in the U.S. and U.K. on December 23, 1983. It took Pennebaker nearly a decade to finalize the project after filming due to complex post-production soundtrack mixing, making it one of the director's most ambitious undertakings.

David Bowie performs his final concert as Ziggy Stardust at the Hammersmith Odeon, London on July 3, 1973. The concert later became known as the Retirement Gig.

Despite being recognized as a cult classic today, the film originally did not perform exceptionally well at the box office. This sluggish commercial start was mainly due to its delayed theatrical release, which Pennebaker had to fight major distributors for because of a collective industry disinterest in concert films at the time.

The initial pushback did not stop the rockumentary from building a deeply dedicated fanbase, with many Bowie devotees considering it a masterpiece. The movie followed Bowie at the height of his glam-rock era, ultimately depicting his final show under his alien Ziggy Stardust persona. The documentary serves as a flawless time capsule for legendary performance, capturing his epic July 3, 1973 concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon.

The film featured full-length concert footage of hits like "Moonage Daydream," "Changes," "Space Oddity" and "Ziggy Stardust alongside intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpses of Bowie preparing for the show in his dressing room. This culmination of footage was the perfect way to memorialize the historic gig that closed out a musical era.

To this day, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars remains a cornerstone of music cinema. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an impressive audience score of 89%, affirming its lasting cultural impact on generations of rock fans.

So, when he returned from Germany exactly two years later, fans couldn’t wait to get a peek at the King of Rock and Roll. Their wishes were granted when G.I. Blues hit theaters in the fall of 1960

View this post on Instagram

“The plot of G.I. Blues … capitalized on [Elvis'] two years of service,” Ultimate Classic Rock wrote. “So for fans who waited to get a glimpse of Presley, it didn't really matter that it wasn't particularly good.”

Still, the authority on all things classic rock must have seen something they liked about the film, because they just ranked it the best rock movie of 1960.

A musical comedy with a simmering romance plot, Presley plays Tulsa McLean, a tank gunner in the 3rd Armored Division stationed in Frankfurt. He and his buddies have dreams of opening a nightclub when they get back Stateside. To get the capital they need to do so, Tulsa bets his platoon that he can make Lily the “Ice Queen” fall in love with him. It’s She’s All That, military style.

Hollywood beauty Juliet Prowse stars opposite Presley, with frequent Presley collaborator Norman Taurog directing. While filming, IMDb shared, Paramount Studios invited actual royalty to meet The King. The Scandinavian princesses — Margrethe of Denmark, Astrid of Norway, and Margaretha of Sweden — as well as the royals of ThailandHis Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit — all visited the studio to meet Presley and Prowse.

The film proved to be a massive commercial success, generating more than $4 million on a $2 million budget, per IMDb. It also marked a shift in Presley’s public image. Changing from rock ‘n’ roll rebel to clean-cut all-American, the movie star performed lullabies, ballads, and softer tunes in his fifth feature.

The soundtrack features 12 tracks, ranging from “Tonight Is So Right for Love” and “Pocketful of Rainbows” to “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Doin’ the Best I Can.” The fourth track, “Wooden Heart,” became a smash hit in August 1961, when singer Joe Dowell recorded his own version.

Of course, audiences first fell in love with the folksy tune that features Presley singing in German by watching G.I. Blues.

G.I. blues is available to buy on YouTube.

A Billy Joel Biopic Is in the Works — But the Icon Has This to Say About It

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:28pm

With Michael still dominating at the box office, news of a biopic centered on another musical icon is now brewing.

A film chronicling the formative years of superstar singer-pianist Billy Joel will be directed by John Ottman, Variety reports.

Billy & Me will tell the origin story of Joel before fame, before the hits — and, significantly, before his 1973 classic “Piano Man.” As Variety noted on Tuesday, May 19, it's told through the eyes of Joel’s first manager, Irwin Mazur, who discovered the singer in 1966, signed him in 1970 and oversaw his career up to his breakthrough deal with Columbia Records in 1972.

Last year, HBO released a documentary on the Grammy winner, 77, titled “And So It Goes.”

The production has secured Mazur’s exclusive life rights, as well as those of Joel’s longtime friend, drummer and video director Jon Small, who is also on board as a consultant, co-executive producer and second unit director. Small was Joel’s drummer in the Hassles.

“This is the most honest, heartfelt, and authentic portrayal of Billy’s early life and rise to becoming one of the greatest musical voices of our time," Small, 80, told Variety. "Billy & Me is grounded in truth, shaped with care, and built with the insight of people who genuinely know and love Billy. As someone who was there from the very beginning, I can say this script captures not just the music, but the friendships, struggles, humor, and creative spark that defined those years.”

The kicker is that Billy & Me doesn't have Joel’s approval, rights to his music or his life rights — which grant a person or company the right to purchase and develop a person’s life story into a media format.

“Since 2021, the parties involved have been officially notified that they do not possess Billy Joel’s life rights and will not be able to secure the music rights required for this project," Joel's rep said in a statement to Variety. "Billy Joel has not authorized or supported this project in any capacity, and any attempt to move forward without it would be both legally and professionally misguided.”

Stephen Colbert’s Final ‘Late Show’ Week Has Fans Bracing for an Emotional Goodbye

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:27pm

The lastLate Show with Stephen Colbert is coming, and we are not OK.

Stephen Colbert, who's helmed the show since taking over for David Letterman in 2015, will take his final bow this week.

When Colbert won the 2025 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series, he told the audience his goal for when he first took over on The Late Show.

"In September of 2015, Spike Jonze stopped by my office and said, ‘Hey, what do you want this show to be about?’ I said, ‘Ah, Spike, I don't know how you could do it, but I'd kind of like to do a late-night comedy show that was about love,’" he recalled. "And I don't know if I ever figured that out, but at a certain point, and you can guess what that point was, I realized that in some ways, we were doing a late-night comedy show about loss. That's related to love, because sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it."

Let's be real, we really are losing it—and, well, losing it. Colbert, who previously was a fan favorite correspondent on The Daily Show and host of spinoff The Colbert Report, has been a comedy staple for two decades, and we will not be better off without him on air. The least we can do is give the man a sweet sendoff. Here's everything to know about the Late Show with Stephen Colbertfinal episode, including, when and were to watch, how to stream, theLate Show with Stephen Colbert last guests and more.

Is the Colbert show ending?

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is, in fact, ending, and, frankly, no one is thrilled about it except some fascists.

That said, Colbert has been remarkably (and predictably) diplomatic and kind whenever he discusses his exit. He told the Hollywood Reporter that he didn't expect the show to end when and how it did, and that he would have done things differently if his exit was his own call.

“I’d just be a little older. And it would have been my choice, and I probably would have known what the final show was going to be a little bit earlier,” he said.

He added, “On The Colbert Report, I picked that day—I didn’t tell anybody, but I knew two years ahead of time. Well, we didn’t pick this day. We know what it’ll be now, but it took a few months. But maybe they gave me a gift because I had a lot of jokes I could make about the end of the show, and if I’d decided to end the show, then I’m the bad guy—hard to make jokes about that.”

Did Stephen Colbert get canceled?

As a person? Never. However, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be canceled after its finale this week.

Why was Stephen Colbert canceled?

That depends on who you ask.

Many will notice that Trump's lawsuit against CBS coincided with the cancellation of The Late Show, but CBS insisted that the show was ending for financial reasons.

CBS announced that the staple show would end not long after the network settled a lawsuit from President Donald Trump, and the coincidental timing wasn't lost on anyone—least of all Stephen Colbert himself, who was more diplomatic than he needed to be about it.

Colbert, ever kind, didn't publicly dispute the suits' reasoning much, but he did acknowledge that, you know, it might look a little sketchy to some people, you know?

"I do not dispute their rationale. I do make jokes about it. But I also completely understand why people would say (A) that doesn’t make sense to me and (B) that seems fishy to me, because the network did it to themselves by bending the knee to the Trump administration over a $20 billion, settled for $16 million, completely frivolous lawsuit," he told the New York Times in April. "It’s possible that two things can be true. Broadcast can be in trouble. They cannot monetize because of things like YouTube, because of the competition of streaming. They’ve got the books, and I do not have any desire to debate them over what they say their business model is and how it does not work for them anymore. But less than two years before they called to say it’s over, they were very eager for me to be signed for a long time. So, something changed."

He expounded to the Hollywood Reporter, "It came as a surprise. Listen, there’s no denying that the broadcast model is in huge trouble. But our model [late night] within that overall model has been very profitable for, like, 70 years, starting with Steve Allen. But maybe we were the first show to then be a detriment. Maybe we were the first one to flip in the other direction. I do not wish to litigate it. It’s their shop, and they can do what they want."

Is the Colbert show ending in May 2026?

Indeed. The final episode will air on May 21, 2026.

"My brother is getting married, so my whole family is going to be here on the 21st, and then we’re all going to get on the train and go to D.C. for the wedding. So, immediately after the show’s over, there’s something much more important going on," Colbert told the Hollywood Reporter. "And there’s something much more important going on the Monday before, too. My son is graduating from college. Then there’s a little blip in the middle where my 20-year late night career comes to an end. The universe has conspired to give me the proper perspective."

Who is taking over for Stephen Colbert?

Technically no one is taking over for Colbert, because he's not leaving the Late Show—the show as a whole is ending. As for who will be in the time slot, Byron Allen will take over with Comics Unleashed, and he vowed to avoid political discussions on the show.

"What I’m doing with Comics Unleashed, we don’t talk about politics. We don’t talk about anything that’s topical," he said on Smerconish. "We don’t do anything that’s racist or sexist or antisemitic or homophobic. Just be funny and don’t offend."

He added, "I don’t care who you vote for. I don’t care. I’m here to make people laugh. You’re going to vote who you’re going to vote for, no matter what I say. It doesn’t matter. It’s not my business, do what you do. I’m here to make you laugh."

Just pointing out that who people vote for is everyone's business, because those decisions effect the rights of everyone, but whatever. He'll do him.

Who are Stephen Colbert's final guests?

One guest that Colbert has been chasing forever? Pope Leo XIV, and it remains to be seen if the Pontifex will be pop by the Ed Sullivan Theater.

"The pope is my white whale. I wrote him. I said, 'Come on!' No, I said, “Your Holiness, I hope this letter finds you well or, at the very least, infallible. Would you please come on my show? We don’t have to talk about politics,'" Colbert told the Hollywood Reporter. "Because I didn’t really think he’d want to talk about politics or anything like that. Little did I know that the guy could throw a punch [as he recently proved feuding with Trump over the Iran war]. I said, 'Let’s talk about being an American Catholic.' Now, if the pope goes on Kimmel [instead], I’m going to think hard about the Presbyterian church. That’s all I’m saying."

That said, the guests for the final week of The Late Showwith Stephen Colbert are varied, and chances are there will be a lot of surprises beyond what's listed below! Here's what we know so far.

Jon Stewart, Steven Spielberg and Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Everyone knows that part of the experience of seeing a movie on the big screen is the snacks and dining options that come with it. They’re almost like a supporting character, making sure you’re comfortable, satisfied, and fully immersed in the experience.

The movie theater chain announced that it is evolving the Feature Fare menu, first introduced in 2017, to include added options.

The new offerings will go beyond the typical movie theatre concessions, expanding into hot foods, savory snack bites, sweet treats and even limited-time offerings inspired by popular food trends and guest demand.

Moviegoers will see a big change when they step foot into one of the more than 400 AMC Feature Fare locations, as the menu will include these new items:

  • Street Corn Poppers – Hot, poppable street corn bites packed with flavor.
  • Popcorn Chicken – Crispy, bite-sized chicken perfect for sharing or snacking during the movie.
  • Hot Honey Sausage Pizza – A sweet and spicy combination featuring sausage and hot honey flavors.
  • Dill Pickle Pretzel Bites – Soft pretzel bites with a bold dill pickle seasoning twist.
  • Dill Pickle Bavarian Legend – A 1.5 pound, shareable pretzel with a bold dill pickle seasoning twist.

Those with a little sweet tooth will be able to indulge in the new additions, including Cheez-Its, Pringles Mingles Jalapeño Queso and Snickers Peanut Butter Ice Cream Bar.

“The AMC Feature Fare menu is always evolving as we explore fun new opportunities and listen to our guests about what they most enjoy while watching a movie on the big screen,” said Hank Green, Senior Vice President, Food & Beverage, AMC Theatres, in a press release.

"With new additions like Street Corn Poppers, Hot Honey Sausage Pizza, and Dill Pickle Pretzel Bites, we’re continuing to build a menu that gives our guests more variety, more flavor and more reasons to treat themselves when they come to the movies.”

I Tested TikTok’s Favorite Dirty Soda Recipes—Here’s the Only One I’ll Make Again

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:12pm

If you're not familiar with dirty soda by now, well, buckle up. The term "dirty soda" might conjure up pictures of some sort of failed 7-11 fountain drink experiment, but this trend has actually been around for a little while and is darn delicious. Let us explain.

Originally popularized in Utah soda shops, dirty soda has quietly become one of the biggest non-coffee beverage crazes in the U.S. Since the Mormon population usually doesn't drink alcohol, coffee or tea, a little treat in the form of a drink was created and thus, the dirty soda was born.

I first heard about the dirty soda trend from my friend Shae, who is the reigning queen of multiple drinks on her desk at all times. She is also the first person to jump on a TikTok food trend and then prompty voice note me about it. In fact, she was the one who dragged me to Sonic for my very first dirty soda experience (and honestly, aren’t those the kinds of moments friendships are founded on?). At first you might be skeptical, but I guarantee when you hit the last sip, you'll be craving another.

The trend exploded even further thanks to TikTok, where videos of creamy sodas being swirled together in giant pebble-ice-filled cups somehow became hypnotic viewing (rightfully so). But after seeing dirty soda all over social media for months, I started wondering whether these drinks were actually worth making at home or whether they were just another internet fad destined to disappear faster than the Dalgona coffee once COVID was over.

What Is Dirty Soda?

Dirty soda takes a basic soft drink and "dirties" it up with flavored syrups, creamers, fruit purees, citrus and plenty of crushed ice. If putting cream into soda sounds gross, let me ask you one thing: have you ever had a root beer float? How about an egg cream? (I rest my case.) Americans have been combining soda, syrups and creamy ingredients since the golden age of soda fountains in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The OG dirty soda of recent years is the now-famous combination of Diet Coke, coconut syrup, lime and cream. Unlike a traditional soda float, dirty soda usually skips the ice cream and instead relies on cream, half-and-half or flavored creamers for richness. The flavor experiements have exploded lately with people making countless versions at home and even fast food chains hopping on the trend. Dirty soda may have TikTok branding, but at its core, it’s surprisingly old-fashioned.

Andrea Ramirez, senior manager, consumer and customer market insights at flavored syrup brand Torani, says that this trend is here to stay.

"I think dirty soda will continue to evolve through seasonal flavors, functional ingredients, better-for-you variations, and new texture experiences," she says. "...Dirty soda taps into several long-term consumer behaviors: customization, affordable indulgence, afternoon treat occasions and beverage experimentation."

3 Homemade Dirty Soda Recipes Ranked from Least To Most Favorite3. Cherries & Cream Dirty Soda

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

For this version, I combined lemon-lime soda with vanilla syrup, cherry puree and heavy cream before topping the whole thing with fresh cherries. Visually, this one was easily the prettiest of the bunch. Dark purple cherry puree swirled through the cream and soda, creating a drink that looked more like an overpriced, fancy old-school soda fountain treat than something trending on TikTok.

The fresh cherry pieces at the bottom turned the whole experience into a bit of a fishing game with the straw, but honestly, I’m never opposed to a beverage that doubles as an activity. Flavor-wise, this one drank the easiest and smoothest of the three, likely because the cherry puree slightly muted the carbonation. The vanilla and cream gave it a dessert-like quality without becoming overwhelmingly sweet, though it definitely leaned heavier than the others. If you love black cherry ice cream or cherry cola floats, this is probably your dream dirty soda.

Ingredients:

12 ounces lemon-lime soda (like Sprite)
1 to 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup
1 to 2 tablespoons cherry syrup or cherry puree
2 tablespoons heavy cream or half-and-half
1 to 2 fresh cherries, pitted and halved
Ice

Directions:

Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the soda, then stir in the vanilla syrup and cherry syrup or puree. Slowly pour the cream over the top to create a swirled effect. Garnish with fresh cherries and stir gently before drinking.

2. Orange Creamsicle Dirty Soda

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

This version immediately transported me straight back to childhood, complete with visions of chasing down the neighborhood ice cream truck. Made with orange soda, vanilla syrup and cream, this dirty soda tasted exactly like a melted creamsicle in the best possible way. The only thing missing was accidentally biting down on the popsicle stick!

It was citrusy, fizzy, creamy and incredibly nostalgic all at once. Drinking this on a hot summer day would probably cure just about any bad mood you walked into the day with. The creaminess here was much more pronounced than in the other drinks, which made it feel slightly more indulgent and dessert-like, but the carbonation kept it from becoming too rich. If you love orange-and-vanilla anything, this one is absolutely worth making at home.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup orange soda
1 to 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup
2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or half-and-half
Ice

Directions:

Fill a serving glass with ice. Add the vanilla syrup and orange soda. Slowly pour the cream over the top to create a swirled effect. Stir gently and serve immediately.

1. Classic Dirty Soda

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

The winner for me, without question, was the classic dirty soda. Coke, coconut syrup, lime and cream somehow combine into a drink that tastes like sipping an icy Coca-Cola at the beach. It’s fizzy, smooth, creamy and just barely tropical without going overboard.

The lime keeps the drink from becoming cloyingly sweet, while the coconut adds just enough flavor to make it feel different from regular soda without overwhelming the Coke itself. This was also the most refreshing of the three and the easiest to keep drinking long after my "taste test" technically should have ended.

There’s just something unbeatable about the coconut-lime-Coke combination. The orange creamsicle version came in a very close second for me, but I’m a coconut person through and through. Pair this classic dirty soda with a bag of salty chips by the pool this summer and suddenly you understand exactly why people are obsessed with these drinks.

Ingredients:

8 ounces Diet Coke or regular Coke
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons coconut syrup
1 to 2 tablespoons heavy cream or half-and-half
Ice

Directions:

Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the Coke, lime juice and coconut syrup. Top with cream and stir gently before serving.

Tips for Making Dirty Soda at Home

Courtesy of Jessica Wrubel

  1. Balance is key. The biggest thing I learned while testing these dirty sodas is that balance matters more than you think. Too much syrup and the drink quickly becomes overwhelmingly sweet. Too much cream and the carbonation disappears almost instantly. Ramirez says the combinations that tend to struggle the most are those where acidity and dairy fight each other too aggressively or where too many competing flavors muddy the drink. "Simplicity usually wins," she says.
  2. Ice, ice baby. Using plenty of ice also makes a huge difference, both for texture and dilution. Dirty sodas are meant to be icy cold, and the extra ice helps mellow some of the sweetness as you drink. Ramirez says crushed or pebble ice chills the drink quickly and slightly softens the drink over time. "Its soft texture lends to chewing, transforming the drink into a 'snack' of sorts," she says.
  3. Customize to your heart's content. Ramirez says there are no rules when it comes to dirty soda. "If you’re someone who doesn’t want to consume added sugars, try using a zero-sugar base with sugar-free flavors and fresh fruit, or consider using a 'better for you' soda brand like Olipop or Poppi as your base," she says, noting that beverage choice isn't the only way to "healthify" your dirty soda. Heavy cream creates a rich, dessert-like beverage, while half-and-half offers balance and easy drinkability. Coconut milk or oat milk can add flavor character while keeping the drink lighter. Cold foam creates a layered experience that feels especially premium.

Sheinelle Jones Reveals Injury She Suffered Live on 'Today'

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 5:09pm

Sheinelle Jones just revealed a painful injury she might have suffered while recently dancing with pop star Zara Larsson on Today.

"OK, Sheinelle's injured, " Bush Hager, 44, declared at the beginning of Today's fourth hour.

"I am," she acknowledged as she tenderly sat down. "So I have self-diagnosed myself. I don't know if this is the official diagnosis, but frozen shoulder."

Jones then demonstrated how high she could lift her right arm before it hurt to go much further. "Like, putting this dress on today? Sarah had to help me upstairs, our friend in the wardrobe department. I mean, it was a whole situation to put this dress on today."

Bush Hager then asked, "Now, are you going to listen to what your body is saying?"

"To slow down? Yeah," Jones acknowledged. "I read, some people say, it's like women in their 40s. I've had this before."

After Bush Hager pointed out that a frozen shoulder can be a sign of perimenopause, she wondered if Jones' injury might have had something to do with the high-energy dance she performed with Larsson.

On May 8, Jones did the viral dance to the pop star's song "Lush Life" for Today's Citi Concert Series. A clip played of Jones dancing, prompting her to exclaim on Tuesday's episode, "Oh wait, it is that arm! Did I rip my arm out of socket?"

Bush Hager joked, "I think [Larsson] broke her shoe, and you broke your shoulder," to which Jones admitted. "I don't know what is happening."

"It's because we're old!" the former first daughter lamented.

News of Jones' injury came after she was absent from Today on Monday, May 18. Carson Daly ended up filling in for her on Jenna & Sheinelle.
