Stevie Nicks only needed a few days with Dolly Parton to come away with a few unforgettable lessons.

Following Parton’s death the day before, Nicks shared an emotional Instagram tribute on Wednesday, August 26, alongside a photo of the two music icons together. Parton wore a red plaid shirt embellished with colorful floral appliqués, while Nicks stood beside her dressed in black.

The Fleetwood Mac singer followed the photo with handwritten pages containing her message and a short song for her late friend. “I spent a week with Dolly in Nashville to record one of my songs with her for her ‘Rock Star’ album,” Nicks began. “Best week ever.”

Nicks described the experience as “like a master class,” explaining that she approached her time with Parton as an opportunity to absorb as much as possible. “I tried to be a sponge ~ and learn everything I could learn from her ~ in a very few days,” she wrote. “Learning from her was easy because she was a really good teacher.”

Their collaboration, “What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done to Me,” actually had roots stretching back decades. Parton previously told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that Nicks had originally written the song during her Fleetwood Mac years, but it never made one of the band’s albums. Nicks brought the track to Parton for her Rockstar album, and the two also spent their time in Nashville swapping stories about their careers and backgrounds.

In her new tribute, Nicks remembered watching Parton embrace an entirely different musical world while assembling the album. “She said she could become a rock star ~ and I watched her do it,” Nicks wrote.

Fans ran to the comments to share their thoughts.

“The fact that Stevie takes the time to physically PEN THIS TO PAPER makes her mysticism and ethereal presence so much more elusive. We LOVE YOU,” one wrote.

“This kind of sisterhood in music means more than I can put into words. To see two women who have given so much to music hold so much genuine love and admiration for one another is incredibly beautiful. We need more of this 🤍,” a second said.

Others seemed particularly emotional after losing two entertainment icons in the same day. With Parton’s death coming the same day as acting legend Tim Curry’s, several fans urged the 78-year-old Nicks to take extra care of herself.

“wrap urself with bubble wrap please,” one person pleaded.

“Stevie plz stay safe we can’t lose you ok,” another added.

Nicks concluded her tribute with a handwritten farewell that turned into a song of its own, telling Parton to carry her music “Right up to heaven.”

“Dolly, how we’ll miss you / There’ll never be another you ~ / And I will always love you,” she wrote.

Parton’s death was announced by her nephew on August 25, following months of health concerns. She was 80.

Channing Prefers a Reclusive Life

Channing recently shared that she enjoys a quiet life in London these days. She relocated across the pond to Maine in 2019, following the death of her partner, producer Dan Gillham, in 2014.

“I’m happy being a recluse,” Channing explained in a rare interview with the UK’s Sunday Times, noting that Gillham’s death was “more devastating than I realized; it had a lag effect. The pattern of my life shifted, so I shifted my life from Maine.”

She went on to say that children didn’t end up being part of the plan.

“Children were thought about and, yeah, I think about them now because it’d be great to have someone taking care of me. But hey, children can be just as selfish as everybody else out there.”

The changing tide of American politics also contributed to her departure, she noted, sharing her move “vaguely coincided with Trump getting elected and the way politics has changed in the US.”

‘People look at The West Wing and go, “ Wow, wasn’t it great when politicians had an ounce of integrity?”’ Channing added, recalling the public’s adoration for the hit NBC political series.

The Lindsay Clancy trial was already one of the country’s most closely watched and emotionally charged cases. Then, for a few seconds on Monday, August 24, the courtroom camera moved away from Clancy and landed on a smiling woman in green.

Viewers quickly began calling her the “green dress woman.” She was soon identified as Brittany Romano, a freelance journalist who says she grew up with Lindsay, who is on trial for killing her three kids at their Duxbury home in Massachusetts in 2023. 

According to the video shared by Fox News on X, as the camera passed, Romano smiled and appeared to wink directly into the lens.

The gesture lasted only a moment but quickly became a controversy in its own right. Online, users accused Romano of treating the murder trial casually, while she said her expression reflected anxiety and discomfort. 

The backlash ultimately cost her a proposed essay and her Vanity Fair courtroom credential.

The courtroom camera captured Romano as it moved across the gallery during Monday’s proceedings. Viewers criticized her smile and apparent wink because the trial concerns the deaths of Clancy’s three young children.

Romano defended herself on Instagram. “I smile through anxiety. I smile when I’m uncomfortable. That is not indifference, it is a nervous system managing strain the only way it knows how,” she wrote.

Romano also said she received death threats and messages encouraging self-harm. She rejected calls for an apology and argued that the attacks contradicted concerns about women’s mental health.

What Did Vanity Fair Say About Her Credentials?

A Vanity Fair spokesperson told TMZ that the publication had been interested in “the prospect of a personal essay by Brittany Romano about her experience growing up with Lindsay Clancy.”

The magazine said it scrapped the proposed essay following conflicts with its editorial standards and informed the court that Romano was no longer credentialed by Vanity Fair. Romano disputed reports that she had been fired, maintaining that she was an independent freelancer and never had a contract for the essay.

Clancy, 36, faces three counts of first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at the family’s Duxbury home.

She pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Her attorneys argue she was experiencing postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors contend she planned the killings and understood her actions.

As per The Associated Press, testimony concluded Wednesday, August 26, after a five-week trial. Closing arguments are scheduled for Thursday, August 27, before the jury begins deliberating.

Parade reached out to Romano for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

It’s not just simple kindness and her signature country twang that are synonymous with Dolly Parton — it’s also 9 to 5, the hit movie that marked her film debut and inspired one of her most instantly recognizable songs of the same name.

Not just anyone can be plucked from a recording booth and act convincingly, but Parton earned praise for her performance despite being a first-time actress.

Film critic Roger Ebert said, “What I enjoyed most, as you have already guessed, was Dolly Parton,” later adding that she “simply seems to be having a great time, ready to sweep everyone else up in her enthusiasm, her concern, her energy. It’s some show.”

But the truth is, if it weren’t for one caveat, her big-screen debut in 9 to 5 may never have happened.

Acclaimed actress Jane Fonda, who was producing and starring in 9 to 5, was instrumental in assembling its powerhouse trio. After seeing Lily Tomlin’s one-woman show, Fonda knew she wanted her for the film. Then, while driving home with Parton’s “Two Doors Down” playing on the radio, she suddenly envisioned the country superstar as the third piece of the puzzle.

Parton had already turned down other movie offers, but with Fonda and Tomlin attached, this one was different. Still, Dolly had one condition before agreeing to make her film debut as Doralee Rhodes: she wanted to write and record the theme song, which ultimately gave her co-stars “goosebumps”.

To make the situation even more unique, Parton claimed to have written the song by tapping her acrylic fingernails together, mimicking the sound of the typewriters featured throughout the film.

Even better, her nails actually made it onto the recording and were credited in the liner notes as “Nails by Dolly.”

Parton later recalled the deal in her own words: “part of my deal with Jane was that I would do it but I said I have to write the theme song and I get to record it.”

The deal was struck, and what began as Parton’s condition for making her movie debut ultimately resulted in a hugely successful song, topping Billboard’s Hot 100, while 9 to 5 also became a box-office smash, earning more than $100 million domestically and finishing as the highest-grossing comedy of 1980.

The catchy title track also earned Parton an Academy Award nomination and two Grammy wins.

Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, 2026, leaving a legacy of generosity, laughter, unforgettable performances and songs that will keep playing long after her final curtain call.

August 1963 was a big month for Peggy Lee. It was when the singer released I’m a Woman, the album named for the song she helped make famous. Though the title track was already a year old, Lee’s recording helped bring the song to a wider audience and set the stage for its storied legacy and glamorous afterlife.

Twelve years after the song was written, “I’m a Woman” became the centerpiece of one of television’s most spectacular moments, when two of the ’70s’ biggest stars—Raquel Welch and Cher—performed it together on The Cher Show.

To appreciate how far the song has come, it’s important to know where it’s been.

The song was first conceived in 1962 by legendary songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, whose resume includes timeless classics like “Stand by Me” with Ben E. King, “On Broadway,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Young Blood,” “Kansas City,” “Love Potion No. 9,” and “Yakety Yak.”

The duo also played a similar role in Elvis Presley’s catalog, writing dozens of songs for the King, per Variety, including career-defining smashes like “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me,” and “King Creole.”

Leiber and Stoller wrote “I’m a Woman” as a cheeky, bluesy response to the boastful male-perspective songs popular in R&B, such as Bo Diddley’s “I’m a Man.” But unlike its counterparts, this tune celebrated female empowerment, a woman’s strength, and head-to-toe femininity.

With its R&B-tinged sound and witty lyrics, it first found a home with blues vocalist Christine Kittrell. Though Kittrell’s original didn’t chart, it did lay the groundwork for the song’s enduring afterlife.

Following Lee’s recording of the song in November 1962, her version entered the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1963, peaking at No. 54. She later released the song as the title track of her August 1963 album. The song was a natural fit for Lee’s combination of wit, confidence, sensuality, and rumored mercurial personality.

In Hound Dog: The Leiber & Stoller Autobiography, Stoller confirmed as much, saying, “Peggy was a woman given to extreme moods. There were times when she treated us with great respect and expressed even greater gratitude. Other times we’d go to the studio to discover that we were in the doghouse.”

“I’m a Woman” was officially a song to reckon with, but little did anyone connected to it know it would really blow up more than a decade later.

In 1974, Maria Muldaur recorded a popular version of the song, which hit No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Stoller said it “wasn’t anything like Peggy but it was marvelous,” while Muldaur herself told Rolling Stone, per Songfacts, “I sing it more as a proclamation, a boast, not a wish or a dream.”

Still, the song’s “big break” had yet to happen. That is until Feb. 16, 1975, when One Million Years B.C. star Raquel Welch joined powerhouse entertainer Cher on the second episode of The Cher Show for a duet that would continue to resonate five decades later.

As both women were decked out in dazzling cutout gowns designed by the renowned Bob Mackie—makeup perfect and not a hair out of place—the two traded lyrics in a performance that seamlessly blended Cher’s rich vocals with Welch’s charm and sass.

Before the performance, Welch was reportedly nervous, concerned about her barely-there dress: “[Welch] said, “Oh, my God, is this too much? Do I look cheap? And I said, ‘No, darling, you look gorgeous,’” Mackie told Interview about his stunners.

Cher and Welch’s performance transformed the bluesy-braggy tune into a glittering 1970s television spectacle, with the two stars trading verses, leaning into the song’s playful celebration of female strength, and absolutely mesmerizing every viewer who tuned in.

“To be a woman is a very, very complicated thing,” Welch once told Interview, along with another poignant quip, “I was not a sex image for men. I was a sex image for women.”

The song was reprised as a duet three years later by Welch when she and Miss Piggy gave it an adorable go on The Muppet Show. The song also appeared in performances by Bette Midler, on American Idol, and in an episode of Ally McBeal.

Not to mention, Cher and Welch’s duet resurfaced and went viral last year as it celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Now, more than six decades after Leiber and Stoller first wrote “I’m a Woman,” their playful hit continues to find new performers and new audiences.

Aly Michalka is gearing up for an unbeatable new career move, but the exciting news comes with an unfortunate catch, as she and her sister, AJ Michalka, had no choice but to cancel some of the upcoming tour dates on their Places To Run Tour in order to make it work.

It is a deep partial lunar eclipse. That means the moon will pass through the darkest portion of earth’s shadow but won’t quite become completely covered.

At the eclipse’s peak, approximately 96.2 percent of the moon’s disk will be inside earth’s umbra, leaving only a small illuminated portion outside the shadow. That makes this an especially good eclipse for skywatchers who are not looking to invest in fancy equipment. No telescope is needed. No special glasses are required. In fact, all you need is a clear view of the sky.

Here’s when to go outside, where to look and what you can expect to see.

When Is the August 2026 Lunar Eclipse?

A lunar eclipse occurs when earth moves between the sun and the moon during a full moon. The three bodies line up closely enough that earth blocks some of the sunlight that would normally illuminate the moon. Earth’s shadow has a lighter outer region and a much darker inner region. That inner shadow is called the umbra. During a partial lunar eclipse, some portion of the moon moves into the umbra while another portion remains outside it.

This August, the moon will make an unusually deep trip into that shadow. At maximum eclipse, 96.2 percent of the lunar disk will be covered by the umbra, while a narrow section remains directly illuminated by the sun. That small distinction is important: This is not a total lunar eclipse. But visually, it should come surprisingly close. Instead of seeing a relatively small dark patch on one side of the moon, you’ll see earth’s shadow covering almost the entire lunar face.

The partial phase begins at about 10:34 p.m. EDT on Thursday, August 27, with maximum eclipse arriving at 12:13 a.m. EDT on Friday, August 28.

Will the Moon Actually Turn Red?

It is very possible that the moon will turn red. And this is the part you won’t want to miss. As earth’s shadow spreads across the moon, the portion inside the umbra can develop a reddish, orange or coppery appearance. The color isn’t coming from the moon itself. It’s sunlight interacting with earth’s atmosphere.

Even though earth blocks direct sunlight from reaching the eclipsed part of the moon, some sunlight travels through the atmosphere around the edge of our planet. Earth’s atmosphere scatters much of the blue light, while red and orange wavelengths are more likely to continue through and reach the lunar surface. The result can be an eerie glow on the part of the moon sitting inside earth’s shadow.

How Red will the Moon look?

How red will the moon look? That’s impossible to predict precisely. Atmospheric conditions, including dust, clouds and other particles, can impact the final color. You might see something resembling burnt orange or copper, or a much darker reddish brown.

Because this eclipse stops just short of totality, however, don’t expect the entire moon to become a uniform red ball. A small bright section will remain illuminated directly by the Sun. That’s actually part of what could make this eclipse so striking. You might see a bright white slice of moon next to a vast, shadowed portion with a warm reddish tint.

What Time Is the Lunar Eclipse in Each U.S. Time Zone?

The worldwide maximum occurs at approximately 4:12 a.m. UTC on Friday, August 28. In the four major U.S. time zones, that becomes:

Eastern: 12:13 a.m. EDT Friday
Central: 11:13 p.m. CDT Thursday
Mountain: 10:13 p.m. MDT Thursday
Pacific: 9:13 p.m. PDT Thursday

Note: If you live in the Central, Mountain or Pacific time zones, go outside Thursday night, Aug. 27. Don’t wait until Friday night. The eclipse will already be over.

On the East Coast, the partial eclipse begins at about 10:33 p.m. Thursday, reaches its most dramatic point shortly after midnight, and the Moon emerges from the umbra around 1:51 a.m. Friday. The more subtle penumbral phase continues until roughly 3:01 a.m.

You don’t have to be outside at the exact moment of maximum eclipse to enjoy it. In fact, watching for 30 minutes or an hour around the peak can be more rewarding because you’ll be able to see the shadow changing shape across the Moon.

Where Will the Lunar Eclipse Be Visible?

Start by finding the moon. The precise position will depend on where you live, but observers in North America will generally find it in the southern portion of the sky, with the exact direction and height changing from place to place.

The farther west you are, the earlier you’ll see the eclipse. On the West Coast, the peak arrives during the evening, making it especially convenient for viewers who don’t want to stay awake until midnight.

If buildings, trees or hills block your view, try moving to an open area with a broad view of the sky. A backyard, rooftop, park or beach can work really well. For the exact direction and elevation from your location, check a local eclipse map shortly before the event. The Moon’s position is different enough from one city to another that a location-specific forecast is much more useful than a single nationwide direction.

Do You Need Eclipse Glasses?

No.This is one of the easiest astronomical events to watch because a lunar eclipse is safe to view with your unaided eyes. You can watch the Moon throughout the entire eclipse without the protective eyewear required for a solar eclipse.

So don’t worry about buying eclipse glasses. Binoculars can make the experience even better, especially when the shadow is moving across the moon’s surface. A small telescope will reveal additional lunar detail, but neither is necessary. The simplest approach is also the best one. Find a comfortable place, look up and watch.

Why Is August’s Full Moon Called the Sturgeon Moon?

The eclipse happens on the night of August’s full moon, traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon.The name comes from lake sturgeon, a large freshwater fish associated with the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain. Historically, sturgeon were particularly plentiful and could be caught during this part of the summer, giving rise to the seasonal name for August’s full moon. The name has nothing to do with the Moon’s color or appearance.

This year, though, the name feels especially fitting for a night when the full sturgeon moon will become the centerpiece of a remarkable celestial event. The full moon reaches its precise full phase at 12:18 a.m. EDT on August 28, just minutes after the eclipse reaches maximum. So the sturgeon moon will be at its fullest just as earth’s shadow is covering almost all of it.

Why Is This Lunar Eclipse So Rare?

Partial lunar eclipses happen more often than total ones, but eclipses this deep are much less common.

This event is particularly notable because the moon comes within a few percentage points of being completely submerged in earth’s umbra. The next total lunar eclipse visible from North America will occur on December 31, 2028, making this August event a particularly appealing opportunity for anyone who wants to see a near-total lunar eclipse before then.

In other words, this isn’t your ordinary partial eclipse where a small bite appears to be taken out of the moon. For a short time, almost the entire lunar disk will be sitting inside Earth’s darkest shadow.’

How to Photograph the Lunar Eclipse With a Smartphone

Your phone can capture the eclipse, although photographing the moon is trickier than it looks. Because the lunar surface is so bright compared with the surrounding sky, automatic camera settings often turn the Moon into a featureless white circle.

Start by steadying your phone. A tripod is ideal, but you can also prop the phone against a solid surface. Tap the moon on the screen to focus, then experiment with lowering the exposure so you can see details on the lunar surface. Don’t be afraid to take lots of pictures. The moon will change dramatically during the eclipse, and different exposure settings can produce very different results.

And consider making the moon part of a larger photograph rather than filling the entire frame with it. Including a city skyline, tree branches, building, mountain or other foreground object can give the picture a sense of scale and place. The reddish Moon against a dark summer sky could make for a memorable photograph. Even if it isn’t technically perfect.

The Best Part? You Just Have to Look Up

There are plenty of astronomical events that require planning, equipment or a trip away from city lights. This isn’t one of them.

On Thursday evening, August 27 or in the early hours of Friday, August 28, depending on your time zone, earth will put on a show that anyone with a clear sky can watch.

Look for the full Sturgeon Moon. Then watch as a curved shadow slowly moves across its surface until only a small bright portion remains. At maximum eclipse, nearly the entire moon will be inside Earth’s umbra, and the shadowed portion may glow with a haunting copper-red color. This is a great reminder that something as familiar as the moon can still surprise us. And all you have to do is look up.

So when I heard Chick-fil-A was finally bringing its own take on chicken and waffles nationwide, I knew I had to try it. I’m already a big Chick-fil-A fan. The Spicy Deluxe is my go-to order, and I recently named the chain’s waffle fries the best fries in the fast-food game. Chick-fil-A already has the chicken part down, so putting it between two waffles sounded pretty promising.

The new Chicken & Waffles Sandwiches arrived nationwide on Aug. 24 as part of Chick-fil-A’s limited-time fall menu, with versions available for both breakfast and later in the day. They’re joined by two new S’mores treats, a S’mores Milkshake and a S’mores Frosted Coffee, giving me even more reason to stop by.

On a recent Chick-fil-A trip, I tried both versions of the Chicken & Waffles Sandwich, along with the new S’mores drinks. And while I had a pretty good feeling about the chicken and waffles going in, I didn’t expect to like them quite this much.

The Chicken & Waffles Sandwiches Live Up to the Hype

I started with the breakfast sandwich and chose the Spicy filet. The chicken was thick and juicy, with three strips of crispy applewood-smoked bacon layered on top. The heat from the chicken was especially good with the sweetness of the maple-flavored waffles and honey butter spread.

The waffles themselves were soft and fluffy, and there was enough sweetness throughout the sandwich that I ate most of it without the maple syrup. It’s great on its own, but dipping it in the syrup gives you an extra hit of sweetness against the spicy chicken. I do wish the waffles were a tad crispier on the outside, but that’s a minor complaint.

The proportions are on point too, with a hearty piece of chicken and plenty of bacon between the waffles. It almost doesn’t even need the bacon if I’m being honest. The chicken and waffles are already doing plenty on their own.

I also tried the entrée version, which has a larger chicken filet and waffle, and that’s probably the one I’d order again. You get a heartier bite, and I like that I can order chicken and waffles beyond breakfast hours. Original and Grilled filets are options too, but Spicy is the way to go.

I even overheard one employee tell another, “I don’t usually like chicken and waffles, but I like this.” That about sums it up.

The S’mores Drinks Are a Sweet Bonus

Chicken and waffles may have been what brought me in, but I wasn’t going to pass up the two new S’mores drinks. I tried both the S’mores Frosted Coffee and S’mores Milkshake, and they bring plenty of fall flavor without being cloyingly sweet.

The Frosted Coffee blends Chick-fil-A’s cold-brewed coffee and Icedream with marshmallow-flavored syrup, chocolate shortbread and graham cracker crumbles. It’s creamy and cool, with the coffee keeping the sweetness in check and the crumbles adding some texture along the way. I especially liked it with the Spicy Chicken & Waffles Sandwich because the cold, creamy drink was a nice break from the heat.

The S’mores Milkshake uses the same chocolate shortbread, graham cracker crumbles and marshmallow flavor, but with an Icedream base and marshmallow-flavored whipped topping. It’s richer and more dessert-like, with little bits of the crumbles mixed throughout. I enjoyed both, but I’d probably reach for the Frosted Coffee again, especially alongside the sandwich.

My Final Verdict on Chick-Fil-A’s Fall Menu

I had high expectations for Chick-fil-A’s new Chicken & Waffles Sandwiches, and they didn’t disappoint. I’d order the Spicy entrée version again without hesitation, and I can already see it becoming one of my go-to orders while it’s still around.

The S’mores drinks are a fun addition too, with the Frosted Coffee being my favorite of the two. However, the chicken and waffles are what would get me back through the door.

Chick-fil-A has brought back plenty of limited-time favorites over the years, so I’m holding out hope for these. Better yet, I’m hoping the chicken chain just puts them on the permanent menu.

Pete Davidson is trying out a new look. The comedian and actor was seen almost unrecognizable on the set of Tommy Karate on Aug. 25.

Davidson replaced his short hair with a long, dark cut and loose curtain bangs. The most shocking aspect of his new look was the addition of bright blue colored contacts.

The Saturday Night Live alum is changing up his classic style for the film Tommy Karate. He will portray the real-life mobster Tommy Pitera, infamous for his martial arts skills. Davidson told Deadline how excited he was for the film in March.

“Tommy Karate is the greatest mob story never told,” Davidson said in a statement. “I’ve been working on this for over three years, and I’m beyond thrilled that it’s finally in motion. Playing a role like this is a dream job. We have a great team behind this one, and I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve come up with.”

The true-crime drama follows the pursuit and capture of Pitera by a DEA agent. It will be directed by Justin Chon and star Davidson, Camila Mendes, and Simon Rex.

The reality dating sensation will see a brand-new group of sexy singles navigate the villa, looking for love, as a new set of bombshells come in to shake things up and mess with the dynamics in their own search for love.  At the end of the season, viewers have the opportunity to vote for their favorite couple to win the $100,000 grand prize.

Over 250 Islanders have appeared on the Love Island USA franchise. Casting for Season 9 of Love Island USA is currently underway, with preproduction and planning for next summer well underway.

In addition, a reunion series, Love Island: Beyond the Villa, has also been renewed for a 3rd Season, which will see previous Islanders reunite after their experience in the Villa to update viewers on their lives and show how they have navigated what has become their new normal. Season 1 of Beyond the Villa reunited the Season 6 cast, while Season 2 saw the reunion of the Season 7 cast. No news has been confirmed yet about who will appear on Season 3, but viewers expect the Season 8 cast to be involved in some capacity.

Hours after Dolly Parton’s death at the age of 80 was announced on Aug. 25, it was revealed that the “Jolene” legend died after “a brief battle with cancer.”

“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” a statement shared with People read. “Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”

Her family has not disclosed what form of cancer the singer had.

Years before her death, Parton literally stood up against cancer. The “I Will Always Love You” singer and Sheryl Crow were featured in the one-hour television Stand Up to Cancer fundraising special, that aired on Aug. 15, 2025, from Nashville, that aimed to unite the country music community with cancer research.

The special was available on more than 30 different platforms, including all four of the major U.S. broadcast networks, which donated one hour of commercial-free primetime.

Although Parton was a long-time advocate for cancer research, who has donated millions of dollars and participated in fundraisers for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, she had not publicly disclosed any personal experience with cancer until her family announced her cause of death on Aug. 25.

In 2023, the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation presented her the Promise Award recognizing her philanthropic efforts.

“Dolly’s commitment to aiding in the fight against breast cancer has helped us raise awareness for this cause and reach audiences around the world,” said state executive director Joshua Daniel at the time. “In presenting her with the 2023 Promise Award, we wanted to salute her for all that she has done for this cause.”

“As a wonderful partner to Komen, Dolly has long used her talents to inspire, educate and raise critical funds for the breast cancer community,” Paula Schneider, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen, said at the time. “There’s no doubt, the world is a better place with Dolly Parton in it, and we’re honored to present her the 2023 Promise Award.”

Set against the backdrop of the haunted Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies, this psychological horror novel, which Time calls “spine-chilling,” will surely keep you up all night, both from turning the pages as you read and from tossing and turning in bed long after you are done. In the book, the main character, Jack Torrance, is a recovering alcoholic and writer who takes up residence at the Overlook Hotel to work as a caretaker during the winter. Soon thereafter, supernatural forces begin to grip Jack, twisting his sanity into something sinister, eventually turning him against Wendy and Danny.

Already in position to win the 2005 Masters, Woods arrived at the 16th on Sunday. He held a one-shot lead, but the tournament was still anyone’s to win. With Chris DiMarco chasing Woods, every shot mattered.

Then Woods hit a shot that seemed to defy gravity, becoming one of the most famous moments of his career.

His chip toward the hole looked good, but as the ball reached the cup, it didn’t immediately fall. Instead, it teetered on the lip of the hole, seemingly suspended between going in and rolling away.

Fans were used to Tiger Woods’ ability to seemingly make any shot, even those that would otherwise seem impossible. At the height of his career, there was a mythology around Tiger Woods. He had achieved almost idol-like status. This shot only added to his fame.

Fans of Led Zeppelin are well-aware that the legendary English rock band occasionally used J.R.R. Tolkien‘s writings as a source of inspiration. For instance, the 1971 tune “The Battle of Evermore,” off the band’s celebrated record Led Zeppelin IV, was inspired by The Lord of the Rings novels, published in 1954 and 1955.

In an August 2022 Rolling Stone magazine interview, Robert Plant, who co-wrote “The Battle of Evermore” with his bandmate Jimmy Page, revealed that the tune gave him a sense of embarrassment. He referenced that he is from Staffordshire, England, a location that worked as a basis for different settings in Middle-earth.

“I can see from this window the hill where Tolkien used to sit and look out over the landscape, and that’s the Shire, and the village just below it is called Bagginswood. I was living in a dream then, talking about C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. And of course it brings hoops of derision into everybody who picked up a guitar or got near a microphone by 1980. But I was a kid,” said Plant during the interview

He then shared he had let his collaborator, Alison Krauss, know that he wasn’t all that proud of “The Battle of Evermore.” According to Plant, Krauss encouraged him to appreciate his work as a young lyricist inspired by Tolkien.

“And the thing about “Evermore” is … I said to Alison, ‘I’m embarrassed by this,'” said Plant, now 78. “She said, ‘But you can’t be embarrassed, because it’s a young person’s moments by living in an area which is like that, which resonates that period.'”

During a 2025 interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Plant shared why he deeply appreciated Tolkien’s writing. He said that the British writer, who died in 1973 at the age of 81, “opened the door to all of that sort of dark age meander of history.”

In addition, he said that The Hobbit (1937) and the Lord of the Rings books “spoke to [him] because the points of reference were very close to where [he] live[d]” and “where [his] parents unwittingly used to take me through this landscape.”

“You can read what the landscape gave you from the old times before there were highways and stuff like that. So it’s quite evocative, and I think that J.R.R. Tolkien had it down. And It’s so remarkable,” continued the singer during the 2025 interview.

Despite the song being 55 years old, modern-day fans still enjoy “The Battle of Evermore.” For instance, in a 2024 Reddit thread on the Led Zeppelin subreddit, one commenter started a conversation about the tune, asking other fans to share their “[t]houghts about the battle of evermore.”

Several Reddit users took to the comments section to share that they thoroughly enjoyed the 5-minute-and-51-second song.

“Great song. Love the dueling vocals and amazing musicianship,” wrote a commenter.

“Tremendous piece of music. Guitar, rhythm, lyrics, vocals… all first rate,” added another.

“Really great song,and quite unique in the Zeppelin cannon,” shared a third person.

“This is the song that made me a Zeppelin fan…it was an overwhelming build of musical emotion that I had never experienced before,” commented a social media user.

“Takes me into another world. Beautiful musically, lyrically and vocally. A great Zep song.🎶,” stated a fan.

“Probably my favourite off IV closely followed by ‘When the Levee Breaks,'” chimed in a fifth Led Zeppelin listener.

We’re over halfway through Big Brother 28, but it’s so far created enough conflict to fill an entire 87 days. After balancing her way to victory, Dee Valladares decided to put up Drew Campbell, LaTrice “Lala” Verrett, and Taylor Brown on the block. During her speech, she mentioned a meeting that occurred during Lala’s HoH between the newbies, where they schemed to go after the “icons.” While Dee offered to talk to her nominees about it one-on-one, Taylor was eager to air it all out in the open right there and then.

“I would love to know who said to put Dee up,” Taylor says. “‘Cause I never said put Dee up ever.”

“Nor did I!” adds Lala.

Taylor immediately asks Drew if he was the person to throw her under the bus, which he vehemently denies. He counters that Lala had said Rick Devens‘s name, which Lala immediately negates.

“That never came out of my mouth,” she says. “And you’re a known liar.”

Taylor then begins to raise her voice, again asking Drew if she or Lala said Dee’s name. Drew, unblinking, tells her, “Yes.” Melody Morris then vouches for her “fauxmance” in the DR, saying multiple conversations happened in the HoH with both women about going for the icons.

“All that’s happening here is everyone is trying to push off responsibility,” she adds. “Because nobody wants to publicly admit what we all know: That the icons need to be targeted. This is buffoon-ass behavior.”

In real-time, the war of words continues between Drew and Taylor. But things ramp up even more when the dental associate drills into her, saying she was in the shower when all of this was happening.

“How, if I was in the shower?!” Taylor screams, standing up. “How can I say something if I was in the shower?”

Taylor does do some clarification in the Diary Room, saying, “Don’t get me wrong. I was in the conversation when it was just me, Lala, Melody, and Mallory. But Drew knows damn well I was not in any of his conversations when it came to targeting the icons. There’s no possible way I’m gonna let Drew drag me into any of his mess, but it’s okay. I have something for him.”

And we see what that “something” is right away. Seated, but still bringing the same energy, Taylor airs out everything that happened during that one fateful night in the HoH room. “So let me tell y’all exactly what happened,” she recounts. “We was in the H.O.H. room. Lala, Melody, and Mallory were sitting there. Lala said,'”Who would y’all put up?’ These ladies did say who they would like to go up because they had not been up yet.”

While Barrett Pfeiffer is able to corroborate that Taylor was in the shower when him, Drew, and Yash entered the conversation, Lala’s not able to get the same support. She continues to insist she only said Devens’ name specifically, while both Barrett and Drew vouch for their fellow “Crossovers” by saying she brought up all of the icons’ names.

“You said you would vote off the icons first!” Lala replies, trying to turn the conversation onto Drew.

“Not true,” he says back.

“You said you would come after the icons,” Mallory says. “So did everybody f—king else! Period.”

This entire fracas has been about the icons. But noticeably, none of the icons themselves have said anything over the course of this fallout. And if there’s one to do it, naturally, it would be Angela. She closes the clip out, interrupting the back-and-forth by banging her hands on the table before offering a simple “hi.”

We shall see what Angela has to say about the idea of a newbie “revolution” happening against her and the other icons. But, as any Big Brother fan can attest to, when she gets involved, it can only get more intense from here.
