During the 1980s, George Michael was a powerhouse taking over music charts with his songs. On this day 38 years ago, he nabbed his fourth No. 1 single from the same album, Faith, when “Monkey” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song was from his debut solo album released the year before. Before “Monkey,” the title track “Faith” and two other singles, “Father Figure” and “One More Try,” all topped the charts in the U.S.

Given the extreme success of the previous singles, when “Monkey” was released as an official single, it wasn’t a huge surprise to see it quickly rise on the Billboard Hot 100. But on Aug. 27, 1988, it finally nabbed the top spot.

“Monkey” was Michael’s sixth No. 1 hit in the U.S., both as a soloist and in the 1980s. Before the release of his album “Faith,” Michael achieved the same milestone with two other singles. These were “Careless Whisper” in 1985 and “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me),” a duet with Aretha Franklin released in 1987.

While “Monkey” is a dance-rock hit, it also takes on the serious topic of watching a loved one go through drug addiction with the lyrics. It includes lines like, “Always givin’ in to it/ Do you love your monkey or do you love me?”

In a retrospective interview about Faith, Michael talked a bit about what inspired him to write the song. He said, “I’d found out that a girl took some drugs that I didn’t know she took; I didn’t know how to help her because I didn’t know anything about it.”

He noted that he hadn’t seen anyone deal with addiction before, before adding, “I think it was around the same time that I met her that, through someone else, I took my first ecstasy tablet.”

While it might not usually be fans’ favorite song from the album, “Monkey” was still a huge hit, and overall, the album is still renowned today. At the time of its release, Faith received great acclaim from critics and fans, and it topped album charts in many countries, including the U.S. and U.K.

When Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson finally began gaining traction in country music after a decade of pounding the pavement in Nashville, she found a safe place to land with a country legend who could relate to all of her toils and triumphs: Dolly Parton.

Two weeks before the icon’s death on Aug. 25, 2026, Parton made one last call to Wilson, who shared glimpses into their powerful conversation in a social media post, revealing that their conversation included discussing Parton’s late husband, Carl Dean, and Wilson’s new husband, former NFL quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

On August 27, Wilson captioned a series of photos and videos with Parton by writing, “My Dolly. 💛 I felt like you were my friend before we even met.. you made everybody feel that way. But once we became friends, boy did we have a lot to talk about…”

“I sure am glad you called a couple of weeks ago,” Wilson continued. “We got to talk about the business, the sacrifice, how special Carl Dean was to you and how important Duck is to me.. you told me that ‘it’s all great and stuff that Duck lets you be you, but you better make sure you let Duck be himself too.’ You also told me to take my time reading the book of Revelation and that I might need to go on back to Psalms for a minute to catch my breath.”

“We talked about how we both feel like we were called into this business and you told me you felt like you weren’t finished,” Wilson shared. “Well my friend, you are not. The kind of love and light you shined in your lifetime is the kind that never goes away.”

Growing up in a tiny Louisiana town, Wilson always dreamed of making it in country music, writing her first song at age nine. Determined to succeed, she moved to Nashville in 2011 and infamously lived in a camper-trailer there while she honed her craft as a songwriter and performer.

During a January 2026 press event at BMI in Nashville, Wilson told reporters how much she relied on Parton as a sounding board.

“I think all of y’all probably know how important Dolly is to me and my journey, and how important she is to so many people,” she said. “She has definitely been somebody that I look to when I think about like, ‘Can I do this? Can I not? Should I do this? Should I not? Should I say this? Should I not?’ And she somehow always does it with grace and everything, so she’s been, like, a huge pillar for me.”

During a recent in-studio session, Wilson said she cherished having Parton to “coach me up,” noting that “the banter that me and her have been able to have with each other, I feel like I’ve known her from another lifetime.”

Kansas‘ 1977 hit “Dust in the Wind” is considered an iconic rock song and a staple in popular culture, with it featured in films and television shows like Old School and Family Guy.

The tune, off the band’s fifth record, Point of Know Return, was also featured on Amazon Music‘s curated list, the “100 Greatest Soft Rock Songs.” Other songs included on the Amazon Music list are “Rosanna” by Toto from 1982, Elton John‘s “Tiny Dancer,” released in 1971, and 1972’s “Take It Easy” by the Eagles.

“Dust in the Wind,” written by Kerry Livgren, who departed Kansas in 1983, took home the number sixth spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1978.

Kansas Members Phil Ehart and Rich Williams Discussed the Legacy of ‘Dust in the Wind’ in 2023

In a 2023 interview with Dan Rather, current Kansas members Phil Ehart, Rich Williams, and Ronnie Platt discussed the lasting legacy of “Dust in the Wind.” Ehart shared that the band knew the song was destined to be a hit when “Kerry first played” the tune in a rehearsal.

“We knew instantly that this song was going to be huge,” said the drummer, before sharing that Livgren was skeptical about the track becoming a hit.

Ehart then said that he doesn’t believe Kansas could ever replicate the power and success of “Dust in the Wind.”

“It was something that only comes along every once in a while. I know that over the years we’ve been asked by record companies and fans, ‘Why don’t you guys write another Dust In The Wind?’ That just doesn’t happen. I mean, you can try, you can give it a shot, but there’s no more ‘Dust in the Winds’ coming out of Kansas,” said Ehart, now 76.

Williams also theorized why the 1977 song has remained so beloved. He credited Livgren’s lyrics and the tune’s melody for giving it a “timeless” quality. In addition, the guitarist said he still enjoyed playing “Dust in the Wind” for audiences.

“There’s something about that song. It’s one of my favorite parts of the night is I’m the guy that gets to start that song, you know, and everybody in the audience knows the song. They know every lyric, most of them have a personal story about it, and I’m very grateful to be that guy. It’s quite an experience to play something that has so much meaning to so many people,” said Williams in the 2023 interview.

It’s back! Pumpkin lovers rejoice, because the cult-favorite Pumpkin Caramel Kringle is back on shelves at Trader Joe’s earlier than expected.

Many shoppers have already taken to social media to share the news of the return of the $9.99 fall dessert. The Danish kringle is an oval-shaped flaky pastry with a sweet, nut, or cheese filling.

In this case, the filling is pumpkin caramel, and shoppers are already stocking up.

“Pumpkin Caramel Kringle has already arrived in SoCal?!” one person wrote on Reddit, sharing the exciting news.

However, it is only back for a limited time — from August 26 to November 29.

““We are always excited when it’s time to bring Pumpkin Caramel Kringle back for the season,” the O&H Danish Bakery president said in a press release. “This fall flavor is always highly anticipated by Trader Joe’s and O&H fans alike. Known to sell out quickly at Trader Joe’s, we’ve extended our availability for nationwide shipping directly from O&H, so the treat can be enjoyed all season long.”

Fans are already sharing their favorite ways to enjoy the fall treat, from room temperature to heated up in the air fryer.

“One of the best ways you can spend $10 is at Trader Joe’s right now!! The Pumpkin Caramel Kringle is here,” one person boasted on Reddit. Another added, “This was so hard for me to walk away from once I opened it. It’s addicting!”

A third chimed in, “Listen, it’s incredible. It’s buttery, rich, and flavorful. But I highly recommend getting one when you plan on having guests or bringing one to a function to share. Otherwise it’s too easy to stand at your kitchen counter and just hack away at it all by yourself over the course of a weekend.”

The Pumpkin Caramel Kringle will be available at participating Trader Joe’s stores nationwide for a limited time, while supplies last.

By 1969, The Hollies had spent much of the decade turning pristine harmonies and irresistible melodies into hits. Then came a ballad that revealed a more solemn side of the British rock band.

“He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” paired Allan Clarke’s impassioned lead vocal with an orchestral arrangement and a message about compassion, loyalty, and carrying someone else’s burdens. The song became one of The Hollies’ defining recordings, and Neil Diamond would soon be among the artists drawn to its enduring message.

The song came to the group from songwriters Bobby Scott and Bob Russell.

Russell was already seriously ill with cancer when the pair collaborated on the composition, which would become one of his final songs before his death in 1970. Its title drew on a phrase that had circulated in various forms for decades, but Scott and Russell transformed the sentiment into an emotional ballad about standing beside another person no matter how difficult the journey becomes.

“In the 1960s when we were short of songs I used to root around publishers in Denmark Street,” Hollies guitarist Tony Hicks told The Guardian. “One afternoon, I’d been there ages and wanted to get going but this bloke said: ‘Well there’s one more song. It’s probably not for you.’ He played me the demo by the writers [Bobby Scott and Bob Russell]. It sounded like a 45rpm record played at 33 rpm, the singer was slurring, like he was drunk. But it had something about it.”

Hicks was onto something, though his bandmates weren’t immediately onboard.

“We thought that maybe ballads weren’t our thing at that time but the actual message of that song got through to us,” Clarke told The Strange Brew years later. “We thought that we’ve got to give this song a chance. It was beautifully orchestrated, the production on it was marvelous and we got really good vocals out of that.”

The Hollies gave the song an appropriately expansive treatment.

Their recording opens with a delicate piano part played by a then relatively unknown session musician named Elton John, before gradually building around Clarke’s increasingly powerful vocal. Strings and the band’s harmonies add to the drama without overshadowing the simple message at the song’s center.

Listeners responded on both sides of the Atlantic.

Released in 1969, “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” reached No. 3 on the U.K. Singles Chart and climbed to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States in 1970. It later returned to No. 1 in the U.K. following a 1988 reissue, nearly two decades after its original release.

Its appeal also quickly extended beyond The Hollies.

Neil Diamond recorded “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” for his 1970 album Tap Root Manuscript, bringing his own unmistakable voice to the composition. Artists including Olivia Newton-John and Bill Medley would also record versions over the years.

“It took a while to get into the charts but it did slowly and went straight to the top,” Clarke said. “To actually find a song like that, which to me is a classic, it has to prove itself to be played time and time again. It always tugs at your heart strings. It’s been a hit three times in three generations.”

Fifty-seven years after The Hollies first released it, “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” remains a moving statement about empathy and devotion. Its message has crossed artists, genres, and generations, transforming a 1969 ballad into one of the most enduring songs in The Hollies’ remarkable catalog.

Journey’s catalog is a hitmaker’s goldmine. Ultimate Classic Rock did just that with one of its latest roundups. Ranking Journey’s greatest deep-cut tracks, the outlet started at No. 20 with “Kohoutek” from the band’s 1975 self-titled album, and counted down to its No. 1 pick, “Do You Recall,” the ninth track from their fifth studio album, Evolution.

“As with much of Evolution, ‘Do You Recall’ tended to straddle Journey’s two eras—but no deep cut did it more effortlessly,” UCR wrote. “This is the perfect blending of their tough early sound and Steve Perry’s sun-flecked sense of reminiscence.”

Released in March 1979, the nostalgic song about reflection was penned by singer-songwriters Perry and Gregg Rolie as a mid-tempo pop-rock jam with a steady drum shuffle and layered harmonies on the bridge that propel Perry’s lead vocals.

Issued on their breakthrough Evolution, which Perry once called “good different,” the song helped the band surge toward multi-platinum pop success. And even though it was never released as a single, fans continue to praise “Do You Recall” nearly five decades later as a severely underappreciated track.

“Journey was building toward their superstar future with a tighter focus on Perry,” the outlet explained, “but not just on singalong radio favorites like this album’s signature single ‘Lovin,’ Touchin,’ Squeezin.’”

At the time, Journey was transitioning from a complex prog- and jazz-rock outfit into a mainstream melodic arena-rock powerhouse. With Steve Smith now on the drums and Perry settling into his leadership role with pop-oriented songwriting, the band began to really develop and shape their signature sound. And it worked.

Evolution became Journey’s breakthrough album. Scoring their first Top 20 hit with “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’,” the LP peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and eventually sold more than 3 million copies, making it their biggest commercial hit up to that point.  

“We wanted to be successful,” guitarist Neal Schon told Sounds, via UCR, shortly after Evolution’s release. “We wanted to compete, and we took the steps that we thought were right to do so. … I think if the people are open-minded, they’re going to enjoy us, because I think we sound different to any other band that’s out right now.”

Two years later, Journey released another Perry-fronted track about hangin’ in there: “Don’t Stop Believin’, making for the perfect next chapter. As “Do You Recall” asks if you remember yesterday, “Don’t Stop Believin’” tells you to keep holding on for tomorrow.

The cause of death has been revealed for Shelley Fabares. The actress died on Saturday, Aug 22, at 82 years old.

Fabares, known for her roles on projects such as The Donna Reed Show, One Day at a Time, and Coach, died of pneumonia, her family told People. She was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis and received a liver transplant in 2000.

Her family announced her death in a statement to People on Friday, Aug. 23. They told the outlet she “was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort.”

Fabares died in Los Angeles, surrounded by her loved ones.  She is survived by her husband, M*A*S*H star Mike Farrell, and two stepchildren, Erin and Michael.

Her family wrote, “She was a devoted wife, cherished stepmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, family member, and loyal friend whose warmth, generosity, humor, and grace made an enduring difference in the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.”

Her family celebrated her fruitful career. Fabares saw brief success as a singer while on The Donna Reed Show. Her 1961 song “Johnny Angel” earned her a No.1 hit. She also shared the screen with Elvis Presley in three films: Girl Happy (1965), Spinout (1966), and Clambake (1967).

“She brought talent, intelligence, and warmth to every performance,” the family statement continued. “But to those closest to her, her greatest legacy was personal: the love she gave so freely, the friendships she treasured, and the family bonds she held dear.”

Prince Harry’s cousin is looking forward to having her family member back from across the pond.

Following the royal, along with his wife Meghan Markle and their two kids’ return to the United Kingdom — after six years of living in California — Lady Eliza Spencer, Princess Diana‘s niece, shared that she was hoping to get together with her cousin.

“Absolutely, it’s exciting!” she told the U.K.’s Mirror at an event for her rosé brand Lala V about the family’s shocking return from the U.S. “We would love to be able to find some time to visit.”

As for whether she and Markle, a fellow wine creator under her As Ever brand, will perhaps share tips, Spencer responded, “Maybe!” when asked by the outlet.

Spencer, 34, is the daughter of Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer. She and her sisters, twin Amelia and older sister Kitty, have managed to stay out of the mainstream spotlight while becoming staples at events like movie premieres and fashion shows around Europe and the U.K.

On Wednesday, Harry, Markle, and children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, arrived in Birmingham, England, via a private plane just weeks after announcing that they’d be returning to the country they left in a controversial move to California in 2020.

Archie and Lilibet are set to begin school next week, while the family settles into a new home in the Cotswolds area, north of London, according to the BBC.

The couple will hold onto their Montecito, Calif. house as well as their vacation home in Portugal (where Harry’s other cousin Eugenie lives part time with her family), People reported.

While Eliza may happily welcome Harry and Meghan back to his home country, reception from his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton is predicted to be drastically different.

“So much has been said and done that has damaged that relationship almost beyond repair,” Hello!‘s royal editor, Emily Nash, said last week. “I can’t see a world in which they would be welcoming them back with open arms.”

There’s no denying that Kenya Moore is gone with the wind fabulous, but now fans want to know if she underwent plastic surgery.

In her latest Instagram post, Moore, 55, seemingly debuts a brand new face, sparking facelift rumors among her followers, who claim The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum is barely recognizable.

“My legacy will always be Iconic,” the Miss USA 1993 winner captioned the series of photos. It didn’t take long for fans to comment on her new look, with some believing Moore used FaceTune or AI for editing.

“Thought this was one of the Kardashian twins,” one person wrote on TheShadeRoom before another added, “She said… if Nene can get a new face, so can I… and I love that for her.

A third chimed in, “AI blindness with the older folks is so damn annoying… like how do you NOT see that it doesn’t look like you??”

Moore limited comments on her Instagram post, but on Reddit fans also speculated Moore may have undergone an eyelift.

While Moore has yet to comment on her new face, she has undergone plastic surgery procedures in the past. In 2021, she had a breast reduction, which she spoke about openly on RHOA.

In March 2025, Moore also revealed to fans that she underwent more plastic surgery in a video on social media to get “bikini ready for my new project,” and that she loved her results. However, she did not specify exactly what procedures she had done.

Moore was a housewife from 2012, when she joined Season 5 of RHOA. However, she was fired from the Bravo show during production of Season 16 in 2024 due to allegations of revealing explicit pictures of co-star Brittany Eady.

Now, Moore is focused on her hairline, Kenye Moore Hair Care, and her 7-year-old daughter, Brooklyn.

As a parent, whether your kids have big feelings or tears here and there, their emotional regulation is likely a top-of-mind concern for you. 

In fact, emotions can be a pretty big deal among children and adolescents. As of 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 11 percent of children ages 3 to 17 had a diagnosed anxiety disorder. In a 2022-2023 national survey, the Data Resource Center for Child & Adolescent Health found that 31 percent of those aged 12 to 17 had a “mental, emotional, developmental or behavioral problem.” And the National Institutes of Health (NIH) cites that between 2018 and 2019, around 15 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 17 had experienced a major depressive episode. 

Whether your child has a diagnosed condition that comes with a lot of emotions or not, you may feel compelled to correct your kid’s problems. While validating a child’s feelings is certainly important, trying to “fix” them can actually translate to toxic positivity in parenting. 

That’s why Parade spoke to a child psychologist for parenting advice on this topic, and she shares one feeling, in particular, that she wishes parents would stop trying to mend. And as it turns out, attempting to do away with any “negative” emotions in your children can ultimately lead to a negative impact in their lives.

The Feeling We Rush To Fix: Sadness or Disappointment

Dr. Jessica Hoffmann, the Director of Research at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and an Assistant Professor at the Yale Child Study Center, says that parents and caregivers in general might have good intentions to help kids reduce or eliminate feelings of sadness or disappointment as quickly as possible, but it’s one that they rush to fix and shouldn’t.

“This is true for any unpleasant, unwanted emotion, including boredom, anger, frustration, anxiety and more—I get it,” she shares. “We don’t like to see our kids feel uncomfortable or distressed, and it makes us, as parents, uncomfortable, too.”

The Psychological Cost of ‘Fixing’ Negative Emotions

Dr. Hoffmann says that she has a few concerns when it comes to parents jumping in to resolve these feelings too quickly. 

“First, this can send the message to the child that the parent cannot handle the feelings either and the child may learn to suppress or hide how they are feeling next time,” she tells Parade. “Second, when we jump to regulation, we skip over understanding the cause of the feeling, which can lead to more misunderstanding.”

She notes that it’s important for kids, especially, to sit with negative emotions so they can find those core reasons behind them.

“Frustration is about a blocked goal, disappointment is about an unmet expectation and anger is about an unfairness,” she continues. “These can all look the same in a child but have very different regulation strategies for managing them. Finally, when we resolve uncomfortable feelings for our children, we rob them of the chance to build the skills to manage their emotions themselves.”

What To Do Instead: ‘Sitting in the Pocket’ of the Feeling

Emotion coaching for parents is always a wise idea, and here, simply sitting with those negative feelings is where growth and resolution truly take place.

To learn how to sit with a child’s sadness, Dr. Hoffmann says that first, you need to make sure that you’re regulated. It’s something that she calls “co-regulation.”  

“By staying calm, you are showing your child that you can handle whatever they are going through. Life will be full of uncomfortable moments; some have solutions, but often the best we can do is accept and cope,” she explains. “Supporting our children by sitting with the feeling builds a muscle that will serve them throughout life.”

How To Validate Your Child’s Feelings

There’s actually a formula for validating your child’s feelings, and Dr. Hoffmann lays it out: Notice → Understand → Name → Validate → Be Present. 

“The noticing step involves saying something like, ‘I see that you are quieter than usual; what is going on?’ At this stage, try to avoid naming because it can be difficult to tell what someone is feeling simply from their behavior,” she explains. “Children may cry when they’re embarrassed, shut down when they are mad, yell when they are disappointed. Therefore, we have to start by labeling the emotion correctly, and that means asking ‘What happened?’ or ‘What is going on for you?’”

She states that “once the emotion is identified,” then it’s time to validate.

“For disappointment, that might sound like, ‘That really didn’t go the way you wanted it to. You were looking forward to it, so I understand why you’re disappointed. It’s OK to feel upset about this,’” she shares. “Finally, being present is so powerful. Something as simple as ‘I’m right here if you want to talk’ makes a big difference.”

Responses To Avoid

Dr. Hoffmann advises avoiding “naming” the emotion when initially broaching them, such as saying, “Why are you angry?” or “I can tell you are upset,” which she says will make anyone feel judged, and often, we can be wrong about these emotions. 

And, as mentioned, “the adult also needs to avoid becoming dysregulated themselves or avoiding or ignoring a child’s feelings,” she states. “This sends the signal that you cannot handle big feelings and may leave the child feeling isolated, or they’ll learn to hide or repress their feelings.”

And finally, she says that you should never try to fix things too quickly.

“Ask yourself, am I trying to regulate this unpleasant feeling away for the child’s benefit or for my own? Sometimes, our motivation is our own discomfort rather than what is in the best interest of the child,” she tells Parade.

When To Seek Help: The Difference Between Normal Sadness and Anxiety

At times, it can be difficult to tell the difference between when a child is experiencing sadness versus having anxiety. Dr. Hoffmann explains that while sadness is usually a response to something that has happened, a loss or other difficult experience—and tends to ease as children adjust and recover—anxiety is more focused on what might happen, and worry about the unknown future. 

She concludes by saying that it’s important not to “overpathologize” everyday feelings, or to diagnose something that may not be there. But there are still some signs that a child needs a psychologist. 

“Sadness, worry and disappointment are normal parts of growing up,” she explains. “But when difficult emotions are intense, persistent or begin to interfere with a child’s sleep, relationships, schoolwork or ability to enjoy everyday life, it’s time to consider getting additional help. Parents don’t need to wait for a crisis; when in doubt, a conversation with a pediatrician or mental health professional can help determine whether support is needed.”

Jake Reiner gave his first sit-down interview since the devastating murder of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, as his brother Nick faces murder charges in their deaths. This comes eight months after the tragedy in which the two were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, Calif., home.

He talked about his parents and how his life has changed.

“Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it,” Jake said in a portion of the interview that aired Thursday, Aug. 27, on Good Morning America. “It’s been 8 months. It feels like 8 years at the same time. And it also feels like 8 minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.”

Jake said that he learned of the tragedy when he received a call from his sister, who “told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom.’” He added that he “immediately went into shock.” Within hours, after authorities responded to the Brentwood home and discovered Rob and Michele, their son, Nick, was arrested. He has since been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.

“[Nick]’s in jail. It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it’s just me and Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially,” Jake said. “For me, it manifests into anger. It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”

According to GMA, Jake declined to further comment on his brother.

“I’ll never understand. I don’t care how it’s explained to me. I don’t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened,” Jake stated. “My parents had unconditional love for all three of us. I can tell you they never stopped wanting to help him. They never stopped helping him.”

While literary classics tend to be regaled as the very best on any given bookshelf, there’s something to be said about modern masterful works. For instance, the publication Collider highlighted books that were relatively recently published that have pages full of excellent prose, compelling plots, and remarkable characters.

Collider‘s ranking, titled “The 8 Greatest Books of the Last 26 Years,” included novels like Gillian Flynn‘s Gone Girl from 2012, 2003’s The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, and The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, published in 2016. According to Collider, the “greatest book of the last 26 years” is the 2008 Hugo Award-winning Chinese science fiction novel, The Three-Body Problem, written by author Liu Cixin.

The Three-Body Problem has a score of 4.08 out of 5 from 533,897 readers on Goodreads.

Liu Cixin Shared His Thoughts About the Popularity of ‘The Three-Body Problem’

In a 2024 interview with The Guardian, Cixin, a computer engineer, said that he doesn’t know why The Three-Body Problem and its subsequent sequels, The Dark Forest (2008) and Death’s End (2010), resonated with so many readers and critics.

“Frankly speaking, I don’t know even know the reasons for the success of The Three-Body Problem trilogy. I don’t find the reasons given by some researchers, such as the novels have helped the west to understand China and so on, to be convincing,” stated Cixin in an email for the interview. “I don’t think that the success of The Three-Body Problem in the west is due to the fact that the novels are Chinese science fiction novels, but rather the fact that they are science fiction novels that treat human beings as a whole.”

David Benioff Explained Why He Wanted to Adapt ‘The Three-Body Problem’ Into a Netflix Series

The Three-Body Problem became the source of inspiration for a 2024 Netflix series, 3 Body Problem, which has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 79 percent. The series, created by television writer Alexander Woo and HBO Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, consists of one season with eight episodes.

During a 2024 Netflix panel with the cast and crew, Benioff explained why he, Weiss, and Woo were interested in adapting Cixin’s material.

“One of the things that really appealed to us about the books and why we wanted to adapt it is because it’s not your traditional evil aliens envading,” said the writer.

He also noted that the aliens in Cixin’s book and 3 Body Problem are “not evil,” but rather refugees.

“They’re coming because their world is falling apart. This is a science fiction story, it’s about aliens coming to possibly conquer earth, but it has to start in a very grounded place. That’s what was essential to us because in the books, that’s really what drew us in,” said Benioff during the 2024 panel.

The View is celebrating three decades on air.

The daytime talk show released a promo for the 30th season on YouTube on Thursday, Aug. 27. The show is returning next month after a brief summer hiatus.

The teaser kicked off by sharing a clip of Barbara Walters when she created the show in August 1997.

“Take a little time to enjoy The View,” she said in the video. Walters died in 2022 at 93 years old.

The promo also features appearances by co-hosts: Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farrah Griffin. There are no changes in the lineup for the upcoming season.

“Now, it’s the 30th season of The View, daytime’s No. 1 talk show,” a narrator said. Each of the women asks viewers to “take a little time to enjoy” The View.

“Thirty years on The View, really?” co-host Behar said. “I feel like I’ve been here since my prom!”

The landmark season is expected to be unlike any other. The promo says audiences will be “surprised” by the season premiere.

In the video, The View calls itself “Daytime’s #1 Most Watched Talk Show.” ABC shared that the series was ranked No. 1 in both households and total viewership among daytime network talk shows during the last week of the previous season, season 29.

The View returns to TV on Tuesday, Sept. 8, on ABC and is available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.

Following the news of Dolly Parton‘s death, a resurfaced video of the late country star having an impromptu sing-along with Kenny Rogers is now considered “a wonderful gift.”

On Thursday, CNN anchor Bianna Golodryga shared the video, in which she asked the two to sing their hit “Islands In the Stream” during a 2013 ABC News interview. While Rogers, who died in 2020, may have been a bit reluctant to belt out the tune, Parton herself was game and eventually invited Golodryga to join in.

And Golodryga’s followers simply could not get over it:

• “Girl how [the f—] did [you] hold it together I would’ve melted if they both were in front of me let alone singing their best duo song,” one said.
• “What a wonderful gift you received!” added another of the song that the two music icons released in 1983.
• “How many people walking the face of the earth can say they sung with Dolly AND Kenny Rogers???? Amazing!” a third said.

Coincidentally, the song is also what Parton last posted about, 10 days before she died, to celebrate the hit’s 43rd anniversary.

Following the news of her passing on Tuesday, a post by Kenny Rogers’ family and team, shared to his official Instagram account, paid tribute to the “9 to 5” singer and their famed collaboration.

“When the two of you sang about being islands in the stream who together had found peace unknown, having real love for each other as true friends who would always stand by each other, and how you just can’t make old friends, it was always as genuine as it could possibly be…coming straight from the heart and reflecting what you both felt for each other,” the statement read, in part.

A video of the two icons singing together was also shared by the account.

According to Billboard, “Islands in the Stream” topped multiple charts for weeks. It also earned the singers an Academy of Country Music Award, an American Music Award, and a Grammy nomination.
