1970 Rock Song, Inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, Turned Its Singer Into a One-Hit Wonder

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:45am

R. Dean Taylor (Richard Dean Taylor) was notably known as a singer, songwriter, and record producer for Motown, and in 1970, he released his own track “Indiana Wants Me” which became a one-hit wonder.

After moving to Detroit in the early 60’s, Taylor was signed to Motown Records and released a few unsuccessful singles. He was better known as a producer for hit artists like The Four Tops and The Temptations, and for his work with Holland-Dozier-Holland. When the group left, he worked with a behind-the-scenes group known as “The Clan,” which also included Deke Richards, Pam Sawyer, and Frank Wilson.

Taylor had his hand in multiple Motown hits by 1970 and decided to release a new track titled “Indiana Wants Me.” At the time, the record label created a subsidiary called Rare Earth that focused on rock-and-roll artists, with Taylor having released the track under the new label.

“Indiana Wants Me” became Taylor’s only hit as a performer in the US, where it landed at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would become a No.1 hit on Cashbox and gain traction abroad in Canada, Ireland, South Africa, and the UK.

The track’s lyrics have an interesting story to tell, as Taylor wrote from the viewpoint of someone who killed a man to defend his wife’s honor. During the song, the man feels lonely and afraid as he’s on the run from Indiana police and misses his wife and family. “Indiana Wants Me” sounds like a movie plot, and it kinda is.

According to SongFacts, Taylor was inspired to write the track based on having watched the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde multiple times. It just so happened that Taylor also witnessed the a break-in at a hotel he was stating at.

“I was living in a fleabag hotel and one night I heard these sirens and somebody was breaking in a store below,” he said. “I looked out and police had surrounded this store and I turned my tape-recorder on. I saw Bonnie and Clyde a couple of times and with those two things that’s how I came to write ‘Indiana,'” he explained.

Taylor’s track would also gain traction for another comical reason. It was first created with loud sirens marking the start of the song, and they were so realistic over the radio that many people pulled over, thinking a real police car was behind them. The realism of the sirens led the record label to remove the sound from certain recordings after radio stations received multiple complaints.

29-Year-Old Rocker Once Called ‘Mick Jagger and Freddie Mercury Reincarnated’ Told to ‘Take a Break’

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:37am

Yungblud has made it clear that he doesn’t want to slow down.

But the rock star‘s body may have other plans.

The 29-year-old rocker, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, recently shared a cryptic voice note with fans in which he appears to discuss his health. During the conversation, someone tells him, “Take a break this year.”

Yungblud immediately pushes back.

“I don’t want to take a break,” he replies.

“Who gives a f–k, we’ve got s–t to do,” the other person responds.

“You’ve got a knee operation, you’ve got a throat operation, maybe a brain operation.”

Yungblud isn’t convinced.

“I don’t want to f–king take a break right now,” he says.

The voice note comes after an especially demanding stretch for the singer, who has continued performing despite a series of physical and emotional setbacks.

Yungblud Recently Broke His Leg

Earlier this month, Yungblud suffered a serious leg injury in a motorcycle accident at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. He reportedly injured himself just hours before taking the stage on Aug. 9, but performed anyway.

Days later, he shared photos on Instagram showing himself on crutches with his injured leg covered in a cast and bandages.

“Leg f–ked. Still giggin. Still standin (sort of),” he wrote, promising fans he was still coming to Portugal and Belgium.

He subsequently revealed that he had damaged ligaments in his knee and would need surgery after his European performances.

He Has Been Told to Take Breaks Before

This isn’t the first time Yungblud has been encouraged to slow down.

In June, he canceled his scheduled appearance at Norway’s Tons of Rock festival after recurring tonsillitis flared up following what he described as a “crazy tour” with “no rest.” His doctor advised him to be particularly careful with his voice, and Yungblud said he was scheduled to have his tonsils removed in October.

The singer also canceled his remaining 2025 tour dates after doctors raised concerns about his voice and blood-test results. At the time, he acknowledged that it was difficult for him to stop working.

“It is in my nature to run and run until I run myself to the ground,” he said, adding that he had been told he needed to take his health seriously.

Yungblud Previously Opened Up About an Emotional Breakdown

The physical issues have come alongside an emotional toll from his relentless schedule.

In July, Yungblud opened up about having an emotional breakdown after performing at Bludfest Czechia. He said the moment was the result of a wave of emotions he had been unable to process over the previous year.

“I’ve been really struggling,” he wrote at the time, explaining that the constant pace of performing, traveling and working had left him little time to process what he was feeling.

He ultimately acknowledged that he needed to “do a bit of work” on himself to find the strength to continue at his current pace.

Now, despite a broken leg, an upcoming knee operation and another throat procedure on the horizon, Yungblud appears determined to keep going.

Dwyane Wade Shaved His Beard and Fans Are Doing a Double Take: ‘They Gone Think You Had Plastic Surgery’

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:26am

Dwyane Wade just shaved off his trademark beard, and he’s basically unrecognizable.

Wade, 44, a basketball legend who is known for his time as a shooting guard with the Miami Heat, is now a co-owner of the Utah Jazz. But the devoted dad, who is married to actress Gabrielle Union, gave Instagram followers a bit of a shock when he revealed his freshly shaved face. Seeing as he’s always associated with his heavy beard, the baller looked incredibly young with his bare skin revealed.

“How many years did I take off!? The Beard needed a break!” Wade captioned his photo set, which included a throwback photo of him from childhood.

“Oh you look bout 21!🔥🔥🔥,” another chimed in.

” Word to my brother. I thought that was RAY J or Kirk Frost,” someone joked.

With busy schedules, Wade and Union have a solid rule that keeps that going: laugh as much as possible.

“We laugh our asses off. At all times, we laugh,” Union told PEOPLE earlier this year. “We just stay connected and we surround ourselves with people who believe in our marriage as much as we do,” Union adds.

The couple split for a short time in 2013 due to their conflicting schedules. But as Union told Glamour, they figured out a way to make it work.

“When Dwyane and I broke up briefly in 2013, it was because of distance and scheduling,” Union said, adding, “I missed some quality togetherness we desperately needed … Moving forward, I decided my work schedule has to make sense for our family.”

By the end of that year, they were engaged. The couple wed in 2014 in Miami.

2000s Rock Band, Who Performed with Weezer, Announces Tour in Support of First Album in 8 Years

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:21am

British rock band Basement has announced a new tour in support of its latest album, WIRED.

The five-piece was formed in Ipswich, England, in 2009 by brothers Andrew and James Fisher, lead vocalist and drummer, respectively; lead guitarist Ronan Crix; rhythm guitarist Alex Henery; and bassist Duncan Stewart. Hitting the road across the United Kingdom and Europe, the band will be playing its latest and greatest tracks, including songs from WIRED, which marks Basement’s first new record in more than eight years.

“We’re bringing the WIRED tour to the EU and UK next year,” the band wrote in an Instagram post announcing the tour. “These will be special shows. Tickets on sale Thursday. You can get them early by signing up on our website or texting (617) 618-5821 – see you soon.”

Per Ticketmaster U.K., there will be several presales, with O2 Priority artist presale kicking off at 10 A.M. BST on Aug. 26, and a Live Nation presale beginning at 10 A.M. BST on Aug. 27. General tickets will be available starting Aug. 28.

Released on May 8 via Run For Cover Records, WIRED peaked at No. 16 on the U.K. Official Album Chart.

Frontman Fisher discussed the making of the band’s first record in almost a decade in an interview with Rock Sound, explaining the band “knew we were going to do something again,” but it was “scary to have those conversations with people.”

“If you don’t ask the question, then no one can say ‘No’. If you ask, we need to confirm everyone is on the same page, and if they are, we all need to get on the same creative page,” he said. “But the fact that we’ve done it, and we’ve done it in a way that felt so genuine and felt like it used to feel when we were doing our early 7’s and records.”

The band has enjoyed commercial success in the United States with its second studio album, 2012’s Colourmeinkindness, reaching No. 188 on the Billboard 200.

In 2019, Basement joined ’90s rockers Weezer on its North American co-headline tour alongside alt-rock band Pixies.

'Race Across the World' Star Jo Gardiner Dies at 61, One Year After Son Sam

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:17am

Jo Gardiner, the adventurous mother who won over viewers alongside her son on Race Across the World, has died at 61, one year after losing her son and co-star, Sam Gardiner.

The Independent reported on Monday, August 24, that her family confirmed that Gardiner died “following a long and courageous battle with cancer,”.

The physiotherapist appeared with Sam on the second season of the BBC competition in 2020. Their journey took them across Latin America, beginning in Mexico City as they raced toward Ushuaia, Argentina.

Jo Gardiner’s Family Remembers Her as ‘Our Absolute Treasure’ Jo and Sam appeared on Race Across the World in 2020

Handout/PA Media (BBC)

Gardiner’s loved ones remembered her not simply as a television personality, but as the center of their family. They described her as “our joy, our safe place and our absolute treasure.”

“We know how deeply Jo was loved, and we take comfort in knowing that her laughter, her courage, her kindness and her wonderfully outrageous spirit will live on in the many people whose lives she touched,” the family said in a statement published by the BBC.

They also encouraged those who knew Gardiner to honor her in a way that reflected how she lived. “As we grieve, we ask for privacy, but we also ask everyone who knew and loved Jo to do exactly what she would have wanted: tell the funny stories, raise a glass, have an adventure, laugh loudly and live life to the full.”

Her family called Gardiner “one of a kind” and said she “never did things by halves.” She is survived by her son Charlie, according to the Manchester Evening News.

‘Race Across the World’ Pays Tribute to Jo Gardiner

The team behind Race Across the World also shared an emotional tribute, offering its “deepest and heartfelt sympathies” to Gardiner’s family and friends.

“Millions of people remembered [Jo and Sam’s] transformative journey across Latin America in 2020 and we hold that memory in our hearts as we fondly recall Jo’s passion for life, her kindness, her strength, and above all her utter devotion to Sam and her family,” the show’s official account said on X.

— Race Across The World (@RATW_official) August 24, 2026

The tribute recalled how Sam once described his mother as “amazing.” “Jo became the matriarch of the Race Across the World cast family, she leaves a lasting legacy in the many lives that she touched, both through the series and beyond. It was a privilege to share her story and she will be deeply missed.”

Jo Gardiner Lost Son Sam One Year Earlier

Gardiner’s death comes a little more than a year after Sam died at 24 following a car crash in Greater Manchester, according to E! News.

Sam was driving a white Volkswagen on Monday, May 26, 2025, when the vehicle left the road and rolled onto its side, Greater Manchester Police said.

He was hospitalized with serious injuries and died three days later. At the time, Gardiner and Sam’s father, Andrew, said they were “devastated.”

“Sam brought warmth, laughter and a smattering of chaos wherever he went,” they said in a police tribute.

Why Jo Gardiner Joined ‘Race Across the World’ With Sam

For Gardiner, appearing on Race Across the World was always about more than reaching the finish line.

According to their BBC profile, she signed up because she wanted to help Sam discover the world while gaining confidence to travel independently. “My son and I get on so well and he is desperate to travel, but I’m nervous of him going off on his own,” Gardiner said at the time. “I want the trip to help him grow, and see how the world works. To watch him experience this will be fantastic. He’s come such a long way and I would love to see him achieve his dreams.”

Hayden Panettiere’s Mother Tearfully Responds to Criticism in First TV Interview After Daughter’s Death

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:15am

Lesley Vogel is addressing the criticism she’s faced since her daughter Hayden Panettiere died on Aug. 16, using a new sit-down with Good Morning America on Aug. 24 to reframe how she wants the actress remembered.

“I want Hayden to be remembered for the talented, you know, beautiful, outgoing, intelligent woman she really was,” Vogel told Rhiannon Ally.

View this post on Instagram

“But I also want people to understand that it is my belief that she was suffering,” she continued. “Now, that doesn’t make sense. Because when you look at a beautiful girl who’s got an incredible career — even though it’s had its ups and downs — but you look at that big picture and you go, ‘Why would you be suffering?'”

“People don’t understand that you can have on the exterior all of this, but that doesn’t mean that what’s going on in here matches,” she added.

The Backlash

The interview comes a week after Vogel drew sharp criticism for her first public remarks. Speaking to NBC News on Aug. 18, she referenced the family’s long-running efforts to distance Panettiere from her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and touched on struggles the Nashville star had written about in her recent memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” Gayle King called out those comments on air on Aug. 19, telling viewers the remarks left her thinking sarcastically that Vogel had given them nothing worth having, and said it was disheartening to see a grieving mother use the moment that way.

View this post on Instagram Her Right to Grieve

“I would say to the haters out there, you don’t have a right to tell me how I mourn the loss of my second child,” Vogel said in response to the backlash. “That’s my domain.”

“I was numb,” she continued, explaining how she felt when she found out Panettiere was dead. “I was just numb; I couldn’t feel anything. I still am not grasping that this is real. It just doesn’t feel real, my mind tells me it’s not at times. It’s going to be a process.”

What Vogel Says Was the Turning Point

Vogel pointed to a specific moment she believes marked a turning point for her daughter: when Panettiere’s ex-fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko, took custody of their young daughter, Kaya, over safety concerns. Vogel called that period especially hard on the Heroes star, saying her daughter couldn’t shake her struggles afterward and was in a vulnerable place when Hickerson entered her life.

View this post on Instagram

Over the past week, Vogel’s public tone has evolved, from her initial, widely criticized comments about Panettiere having “lost her way,” to a follow-up statement clarifying that their estrangement wasn’t due to a lack of love, to this latest appearance casting her daughter as someone who was quietly suffering behind a happy, successful exterior. Through it all, Vogel hasn’t budged on one point: how she grieves is hers to decide.

'Batman,' 'Manchurian Candidate' Actress Dies at 90

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:11am

Hollywood starlet, best known for her roles in films such as The Manchurian Candidate and Batman, Leslie Parrish has died at the age of 90.

Her family confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter, with her stepdaughter, Erica Berdan, revealing that Parrish died in Washington state in late 2025.

Parrish, born Marjorie Hellen in 1935, began her career as a model but transitioned to acting in the late ’50s, appearing in films such as The Manchurian Candidate (1962) alongside Frank Sinatra. She also starred in several major TV shows such as Star Trek, Batman, and Perry Mason.

In total, she had over 75 film and television credits to her name at the time of her death.

Later in life, Parrish shifted her focus to environmental issues and established the organization “Threatened and Endangered: Little Applegate Valley” (TELAV). She also created a 240-acre wildlife sanctuary on Orcas Island to save it from development.

Over the course of her life, she was married twice: to songwriter Ric Marlow in 1955 (the couple divorced in 1961) and again to author Richard Bach. They divorced in 1999. Her stepdaughter, Berdan, is the daughter of Parrish’s second husband, Bach.

According to her website, Parrish was focused on writing her autobiography before her death. However, her main priority was her environmental work.

“Her greatest concern is the destruction of the planet on which we live and the extinction of the glorious life forms which have thrived here for so many millennia,” her website reads.
“She believes the Earth has passed the point of no return but still continues her efforts to ‘save the planet.'”

It continued, “Her roof is covered with solar panels, and she runs her home and her car, a TESLA, with her own electricity, keeping her carbon footprint as small as possible. She concentrates heavily on environmental work.”

2010s Rock Band, Formed by Ex-MMA Fighter, Tops Albums Chart Ahead of Marilyn Manson, Nirvana

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:04am

Kris Barras Band, the hard rock group fronted by the former MMA fighter, is marking a new milestone after releasing its new album Monsters We Made.

Following the launch of its sixth studio album on Aug. 14, the record peaked at No. 1 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart.

In its first week on the chart, Kris Barras Band placed ahead of Marilyn Manson’s newly released record One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2 at No. 2, while the all-star band Hollywood Vampires’ Montreux Jazz Festival debut at No. 3, making the top three entirely composed of new entries on the chart.

Monsters We Made also surpassed iconic albums including Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory at No. 4, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon at No. 7 and Nirvana’s legendary album Nevermind at No. 8.

Official Charts celebrated the band’s achievement, citing this as a “huge week for rock” as the album also secured No. 21 on the U.K. Top 40.

View this post on Instagram

As for Kris Barras Band’s record label Earache Records, they congratulated the group and its fans for hitting the “number 1 album” spot.

“The @krisbarrasband fans really stepped up to support the new album ‘Monsters We Made’-placing it No.1 in the Rock/Metal chart and #21 in the U.K. Top 40. Congratulations to Kris, his band mates, his management, all PR’s, Pluggers and label staff who ran an impeccable campaign. Not forgetting the fans who, without their support, none of this would be happening,” the Instagram caption reads.

Supporting the newly released album, the Kris Barras Band is gearing up for a string of shows on the UK headline tour.

Scheduled for October, the run will kick off on Oct. 7 in Southampton and conclude the nine-date trek on Oct. 16 in Torquay.

Apart from the tour, the band is also set for an acoustic promotional in-store tour, followed by meet-and-greet sessions where they can interact with fans.

“Around the album release we’re doing an acoustic in-store tour, which is going to be cool,” the frontman told Overtone, adding that he will be joined by band member and long-time musical collaborator Josiah Manning on piano.

“I really like doing like the stripped-back version of the songs,” he shared. “Vocally, I prefer singing the songs that way; I feel like I maybe do a better job vocally like singing over a piano rather than over a heavy band. It’s going to be hard, you know, two a day with some pretty crazy journeys. It’s a pretty pretty intense thing, but hopefully it’ll be good fun.”

With the album now making a strong debut on the rock and metal chart, the upcoming UK tour gives the Kris Barras Band a chance to bring its chart-topping new music to the stage.

Clint Eastwood Considers 'Mystic River' the 'Best Thing I've Ever Done': 'I Think it Went Together Well'

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:02am

With a career dating back to the mid 1950s, it’s safe to assume that Clint Eastwood has given the world dozens of fantastic movies to enjoy as time marches on.

Whether looking at some of the many movies Eastwood starred in or that he personally directed, the 96-year-old Oscar winner’s hits expand from classic Westerns like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to rousing sports dramas like Million Dollar Baby.

As fantastic as many of Eastwood’s movies are, the filmmaker maintains that there’s only one movie he remains most especially proud of.

According to Far Out Magazine, Eastwood once told broadcaster Seve Croft that he considered his 2003 film, Mystic River, “the best thing I’ve ever done” in a 2004 interview.

“I’m my own reviewer,” Eastwood said of the film. “I think it was good. I think it went together well. In other words, when you make a movie, there’s only one person you really have to satisfy, and that’s yourself. Did it come out like you intended? Did you accomplish your goal?”

Directed by Eastwood and based on a novel by Dennis Lehane, Mystic River followed three estranged childhood friends (Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon) who find themselves reunited under tragic circumstances following the death of a teenage girl (Emmy Rossum).

Earning significant critical acclaim at the time of its release, Mystic River went on to earn a total of six Academy Award nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Director.

“Clint Eastwood pours everything he knows about directing into Mystic River,” Rolling Stone wrote of the film. “His film sneaks up, messes with your head, and then floors you. You can’t shake it. It’s that haunting, that hypnotic.”

It went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor (Penn) and Best Supporting Actor (Robbins), among other accolades.

Who Is Jed York's Wife, Danielle York?

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 11:01am

Jed York is making headlines for reasons far removed from the football field, following his recent arrest in Ohio. According to TMZ, the San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO was taken into custody on Sunday, Aug. 23, on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. He was released on $5,000 bail.

York, who became the 49ers team president in 2008 and the principal owner in March 2024, was back in court on Monday, Aug. 24 where he pleaded no contest to possessing criminal tools after “prosecutors amended the original engaging-in-prostitution count to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.”

Shortly after the news went public, TMZ reported that York filed for divorce from Danielle York (nee Belluomini), whom he’d been with for well over a decade.

According to SF Gate, Danielle used to work as a teacher at a public school. She and Jed have two sons together, Jax and Brixton.

While Danielle has largely stayed out of the spotlight, she has occasionally supported Jed at 49ers events and shared glimpses of their family life online. Her social media presence is limited, however, and she appears to have made a conscious effort to keep her day-to-day life separate from the attention that comes with being married to an NFL team owner.

For the most part, the Yorks keep have kept their relationship—and subsequent split—completely private, and not much else is known about Danielle. She does appear to have an Instagram account, though it’s private. She also has an account on X, but she hasn’t posted on the platform since 2021.

“Made with care in San Bruno, CA. CEO of @JedYork and #MomBoss to @JaxYork
& @BrixtonYork,” her X bio reads.

As for Jed, he is the son of Marie Denise DeBartolo and John York, the former president of the San Francisco 49ers. His uncle, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., is the former owner of the NFL franchise. Jed has an estimated net worth of $100 million, according to The Richest.

Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro Semifinals (1:47)

In an early sneak peek of tonight’s episode, we watch this key moment as the judges met up with the Dancing with the Stars pros to get their opinions on just how the four remaining Next Pro finalists were stacking up to help them decide who should move on to the finale.

Jan said: “I absolutely love Selena. She took the lead right away. Her eye is very entertaining.”

Kym said: “And we want entertaining.”

Mark added: “On the first night, she was in my Top 4. She made a huge impression on me. She was amazing.”

Gleb said: “I felt as if I was back into my competition days with Adele. Because she’s so well trained in ballroom, she will be able to create that choreography that is authentic to the style. I wish there could have been a wow moment in the routine.”

Shirley teased: “But she definitely left you with a wow moment then, eh?”

Gleb responded: “100 percent. I am flying private jet right now, not even a Rolls Royce.”

Witney said: “I enjoyed the entire process. [Allen]’s so nice to dance with but I think he needs to work on believing in himself a little bit more and that will allow him to really make the choreography pop.”

Mark added: “Allen does need to bite down on the mouthpiece and come fighting for it because this is a hard job.”

Rylee said of AJ: “At the beginning, I felt that lightheartedness, but I will say that he’s kind of intense.”

Mark commented: “I’m concerned with the AJ feedback.”

Rylee added: “I don’t know if he’s going to be able to give affirmation to somebody. It was like constant critiques.”

Shirley said, “So under pressure you see how you would handle yourself.”

Kym added: “And there’s nothing like the pressure of Dancing with the Stars.”

Tune in tonight to find out which three of the dancers make it into the finale.

The semifinals of Dancing with the Stars airs tonight at 8 p.m. ETPT on ABC. Streams next day on Hulu.

1969 Neil Diamond Classic, Written in Less Than One Hour, Remains Pop Culture's Favorite 'Reason to Smile'

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 10:52am

Few songs bridge generations quite like Neil Diamond’s breakout 1969 release “Sweet Caroline.”

The track has somehow managed to outlast every music trend of the last 50 years. Even veteran newsman Dan Rather gave it a nod recently, singling out the recording as one of the few songs guaranteed to lift your spirits on impact.

In a new Substack, Rather discussed the song and its continued impact on listeners, 57 years after its debut. He called it an “enduring love song that became a worldwide phenomenon.”

Rather wrote, “Over the years, Diamond revealed the two-pronged inspiration of ‘Sweet Caroline.’ The emotional lyrics are about his then-wife, Marcia.”

He continued, “But he points to a charming magazine photo of Caroline Kennedy with her pony, Macaroni, flanked by her parents, President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, as the reason he chose her name for the song.” Additionally, Rather called the song a “reason to smile.”

Diamond set the record straight about the song’s inspiration in a 2007 Associated Press interview [per The Hollywood Reporter]. He recalled being a “young, broke songwriter” when a magazine photo of the president’s young daughter sparked the tune’s idea.

“It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony,” Diamond recalled. “It was such an innocent, wonderful picture, I immediately felt there was a song in there.”

He wrote the words and music to “Sweet Caroline” while visiting Memphis, Tennessee. The song was created in less than an hour.

“It was probably the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration,” he told the outlet. “I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”

He concluded, “That song was written years ago, so I am just overwhelmed by the fact that it has returned and that, more importantly, people have taken it into their hearts for so many years.”

“Sweet Caroline” peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 4 in August 1969. It remained on the charts for a staggering 14 weeks.

The song’s transformation from a late ’60s pop single into a timeless cultural staple is precisely why it remains relevant today. Whether echoing through packed baseball stadiums or bringing people together at weddings, its staying power remains unmatched.

For Dan Rather, “Sweet Caroline” remains a song that continues to bring people together, making the classic track more than just nostalgia, but an enduring, necessary “reason to smile.”

HBO True-Crime Series With Meghann Fahy Casts 'Rivals' Star Catriona Chandler

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 10:43am

In the age of true-crime obsession, another narrative series is coming down the pipeline over at HBO.

It was previously announced that Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) is set to star in The Trial of Louise Woodward, based on the shocking crime story dating back to the real-life woman’s trial in 1997.

Now, Deadline is reporting additional casting, with Catriona Chandler (Disney+’s Rivals) set to play the titular role. Fans will also recall seeing the 24-year-old actress in other recent projects such as Enola Holmes 2.

And for the Downton Abbey die-hards out there, Joanne Froggatt has also been cast, with Deadline reporting on Monday, August 24 that she’ll portray Louise’s mother, Susan. Froggatt, 46, won a Golden Globe and was Emmy-nominated three times for her standout role as Anna Bates, head housemaid at Downton Abbey.

More recently, the British actress has more recently been seen starring in Guy Ritchie’s MobLand and is now filming a role alongside Matt Dillon in the MGM+ series The Magnificent Seven.

More Background on Louise Woodward

Here’s the synopsis of HBO’s upcoming true-crime series, per Deadline: “The Trial of Louise Woodward tells the shocking true story of how, in 1997, an 18-year-old British au pair was accused of shaking to death a baby left in her care by her American host family, setting off an international media firestorm as the trial unfolds in full view of both the British and American public.”

The project reunites Fahy, 36, and Susanne Bier, who is also an executive producer and reportedly directs all episodes, following their star-studded Netflix mystery thriller The Perfect Couple.

“The trial of Louise Woodward raised profound questions about childcare, working mothers, class and the role of an emerging 24/7 media,” show creator Matthew Barry told Deadline last month. “Thirty years later, those questions feel more urgent and relevant than ever. I’m grateful to be working with Susanne and our partners at HBO to bring this story, in all its complexity, to the screen.”

Poison Frontman Bret Michaels Has Canceled Shows Before—Here’s Why

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 10:29am

Bret Michaels is no stranger to the stage or to the occasional change in his touring plans.

With the Poison frontman, 63, making headlines again over his 2026 tour schedule, fans may be surprised to learn that Michaels has had to cancel, postpone or step away from performances several times over the years.

From sudden hospitalizations to scheduling conflicts, here are five other times Michaels had to change his plans.

Bret Michaels Canceled a Poison Show After a Sudden Hospitalization

In June 2022, Michaels was scheduled to perform with Poison in Nashville as part of The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

But shortly before the June 30 performance, Michaels was hospitalized following what he described as an “unforeseen medical complication.” Poison ultimately canceled its set.

Michaels later said he was grateful for the medical staff who treated him and hoped to return to the stage soon.

He Had to Cancel Another Show After Performing While Dehydrated

In December 2023, Michaels performed at Del Lago Resort & Casino in New York despite struggling with dehydration and his diabetes.

After the show, he went to the hospital. The following night’s performance had to be canceled and was rescheduled for a date at Mohegan Sun.

Michaels later thanked fans for understanding as he recovered.

A Detroit Show Was Postponed in 2023

Not every cancellation has involved a medical emergency.

In November 2023, Michaels’ Fall Parti Gras Holiday Show at Detroit’s Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel was postponed from Nov. 22, 2023, to fall 2024.

His official website cited a decision made out of respect for fans and casino employees and offered refunds to ticket holders.

A 2024 Concert Was Rescheduled

In January 2024, Michaels announced that his Jan. 26 show would not take place as scheduled.

The reason given at the time was simply “unforeseen circumstances,” with the concert expected to be rescheduled for 2025.

He Rearranged Shows Again in 2025

Michaels was also forced to adjust his 2025 schedule.

In March, his Big Birthday Bash in Charles Town, West Virginia, was moved from March 15 to April 11 because of a scheduling conflict. Tickets for the original date were honored at the new show.

Later that year, he also told fans that managing his diabetes had affected his ability to maintain an especially demanding touring schedule. After performing in Pennsylvania with his blood sugar at 39, Michaels acknowledged that some upcoming dates might need to be rearranged.

Bob Dylan Once Called This Tragic Singer 'The Last Real Individualist'

Mon, 08/24/2026 - 10:20am

Despite his private personal life, Bob Dylan has never made his admiration for other artists a secret. Dylan has always been an artist who wears his influences proudly for all to see, and has never backed down from giving other musicians a shoutout. One of these occasions of praise happened to come about during a 2017 interview on Dylan’s website where he gave a shoutout to one of music’s most tragic stars: Amy Winehouse.

“I liked Amy Winehouse’s last record,” Dylan said, and when questioned further he stated that “she was the last real individualist around.” This is high praise that is also pretty understandable from Dylan’s point of view. Winehouse is absolutely the sort of artist he would gravitate towards, as they both pull from similar influences of American jazz and blues music, as well as the classic pop hits of the 1960s.

Winehouse is equally remembered as one of music’s most gifted singers, as well as one of music’s most tragic stories. Winehouse suffered from a tumultuous alcohol addiction that would eventually take her from this world at the age of 27. She is survived by one of the most singular singer/songwriter records of the 2000s however, that being the record Dylan referenced, “Back to Black.”

I think it’s a real testament to Winehouse’s talent that this anachronistic, somewhat antiquated record went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time when it released. It’s an incredibly unique album that blends all sorts of nostalgic songs into this incredibly dark atmosphere that is heightened by Winehouse’s incredible deep voice. It’s an incredibly authentic album that is completely unafraid to be itself.

Winehouse is greatly missed, and Dylan’s appreciation of this album is shared by so many others. It’s a painful and powerful hit that will be appreciated for many years to come.
