This rug makes outdoor living feel just as comfy as your favorite indoor space. Made from eco-friendly recycled plastic, it's gentle underfoot, with no scratchy or stiff texture. At the same time, it’s still tough enough to handle muddy shoes, rainy days, and the hustle and bustle of backyard fun. The nine leafy, nature-inspired patterns add a touch of natural elegance to any space, and the rug's fully reversible design gives you two stylish looks in one.

With size options ranging from a cozy 5 by 8 feet to a grand 10 by 14 feet, each rug is big enough to pull together a seating area or define your picnic spot, yet lightweight enough to fold up and take anywhere. It even comes with a handy carry bag, so bringing it along to the park, beach, or campsite is a breeze. Setup is simple, as four ground stakes and secure corner rings keep the rug in place, even on windy days or during energetic gatherings.

One of the best features of the Deorab rug is how simple it is to keep clean. The tightly woven plastic surface repels stains, resists moisture, and allows water to drain quickly, so spills and splashes are never a big deal. Hose it off or wipe it down, and it's ready for your next outdoor adventure. The UV protection helps keep the colors bright, while reinforced edges prevent fraying and keep the rug looking sharp all season long.

Fans loved how soft it feels under bare feet, making it perfect for everything from morning coffee on the deck to barefoot summer evenings in the backyard. It's gentle on grass and safe to use on a variety of surfaces. Folding may cause a few creases at first, but a little time with something heavy on top will have it looking smooth in no time.

"Happy camper," one shopper said. "It matched perfectly for my front porch chairs and table. Love the look."

"They are a nice weight, great color and easy to clean," another shopper said. "I use my leaf blower to clear larger debris and follow up with my hose nozzle. Since I have a large dog running in and out, I needed an item that would clean quickly and dry."

Nancy Guthrie Exclusive: Brian Entin Gives Inside Look at SWAT Raid He Thought Was a Turning Point

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:24am

About two weeks into the Nancy Guthrie case, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department deployed a SWAT team to a neighborhood about two miles from her Arizona home. A perimeter was quickly set—but one person was especially close to the action: NewsNation reporter Brian Entin.

At the time, Entin was filming inside the perimeter and said that authorities "detained a man and a woman from the house and they also detained a man from a traffic stop at a Culver’s restaurant very close to that house."

No arrests were made and, while the raid was linked to the Guthrie case, it didn't provide the answers that everyone has been looking for.

Parade got an opportunity to talk with Entin in a recent interview and we asked him about that night—how he was feeling and what it was like.

"We somehow managed to get into the perimeter when they were busting inside the house, and we were live on NewsNation," Entin tells me, adding that his priority was making sure he didn't blow the operation's cover. "You don't want to put the officers' lives in jeopardy.
So I was trying to be really careful," he continued, adding, "we stayed in the car."

Although Entin's coverage was on NewsNation, he made sure not to disclose the location of the raid. There were some intense moments, but once people were brought out of the home, Entin says things were "calmer."

Among those detained that evening were a man named Luke Daley and his mother, Mary. Daley would later sit down with Arizona reporter Briana Whitney for an interview, during which he said he had nothing to do with Guthrie's disappearance.

"I, like everyone else, just want Nancy to come home and be safe, but, that being said, I have nothing to do with this case," he told Whitney.

Although the raid didn't end in an arrest, Entin thought that could have been the case's big break.

"At that point, I thought maybe this was it, maybe this was gonna be the resolution," he says. "They weren't going to find Nancy, but they were going to find who actually was responsible. And I didn't want to do anything to get in the way of that. But at the same time, I wanted to do my job."

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).

Entin is still covering the Guthrie case. He will be hosting a new television special, NewsNation Presents: The Nancy Guthrie Mystery, that will air on the CW on Wednesday, May 6, at 9 p.m. Eastern.

“We have a pilot at NBC, which is really exciting. We’ve shot it,” she told her co-host, Sheinelle Jones. “We’ll find out this week, next week, if it’s gonna get picked up. It’s either called Protection or In the Line of Fire. But Peter Krause, who was in Six Feet Under, [is] starring in it—Hope Davis.”

Bush Hager continued, "It's like this kind of really fun Scandal-esque, it has a little bit of a White House twist. So I brought some of that. A little romance. But family drama, which I think we're all kind of desperate for, with some mystery."

In the comments, Today fans shared their excitement over the possibility of Bush Hager's pilot getting picked up. One Instagram user wrote, "Yay! You go, Jenna! I will be watching!"

Another follower exclaimed, "Can’t wait!!!!!!!!!"

Someone else pointed out, "I didn’t realize we were missing a family drama until you said it. Last one I can think of was Brothers & Sisters."

A different Instagram user declared, "That sounds great! It has my vote!"

Meanwhile, yet another fan admitted, "You had me at Peter Krause."

Deadline reported on NBC's pilot order, executive produced by Bush Hager, Joshua Safran and Ben Spector, in January. Safran also wrote the script.

"When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents become the target of a mysterious assassin," a description of the pilot, tentatively titled Protection at that point, read.

It continued, "Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code."

What do you think of Bush Hager potentially getting an NBC show?

Prince William and Kate Middleton Welcome New Family Member—Say Hello to Otto

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:20am

The royals recently revealed the name of a paw-some new family member! In a sweet Instagram post, the Prince and Princess of Wales formally welcomed the latest addition to their brood—an absolutely adorable chocolate brown Cocker Spaniel.

Of course, Prince William and Kate Middletondidn’t just become pet parents. The pair, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, actually welcomed the dog one year ago. The family’s dog, Orla, was a gift from Kate’s brother James Middleton. And in 2025, Orla gave a gift back to the family. That’s right, the Cocker Spaniel had puppies.

As any parent knows, five dogs and three children are just…well, too much. Instead of raising all of Orla’s pups, the Prince and Princess only kept one as their own. Now that Orla’s baby is turning one, the royal family is celebrating with a sweet birthday post and a very special announcement.

Even though the new family member isn’t exactly a secret, the couple hasn’t publicly shared the dog’s name. That is, until now. The Prince and Princess recently posted a precious pic of the puppy on Instagram with the caption, “Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today.”

View this post on Instagram

Fans of the royals couldn’t wait to congratulate the family, immediately adding praise for their new furry friend with comments such as, “Aww how cute! It’s so nice to meet you, Prince Otto! Happy birthday,” “Hello Otto; you’ve been welcomed into the most beautiful family in the whole world,” and “What a lucky dog. I’m sure he adores George, Louis, and Charlotte.”

But that’s not all! The post quickly filled with more comments calling young Otto, “So cute,” and “A Beautiful sweetie.”

This isn’t exactly the first time Otto has made a public appearance. Royal watchers who looked closely may have already spotted him in a previous Instagram image. William and Kate recently posted a family photo in celebration of the couple’s 15th anniversary. The playful portrait features mom, dad, their three kiddos, and (by Prince William’s side) both Orla and Otto.

View this post on Instagram

Of course, fans have also caught a glimpse of Otto’s mom elsewhere. Orla made a TV appearance with the Prince on Apple’s The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy

In addition to the dog’s television debut, the royals also shared a photo of Otto’s mom, Orla, for National Pet Day one year ago. They captioned the precious picture, “Celebrating the animals who bring us so much joy, companionship, and love to our lives.” And of course, fans of the family flocked to Instagram to applaud the dog. One commenter wrote, “Orla is sooo cute, such a special doggy,” and another simply said, “Gorgeous.”

Margaritaville at Sea’s Newest Ship Just Revealed a Space Unlike Any Other at Sea

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:10am

While most cruise lines offer a standard military discount, Margaritaville at Sea has built its entire mission around a deeper purpose: honoring the 'Heroes' who serve our communities. This May, the line is doubling down on that commitment with the return of Heroes Month, a massive fleetwide expansion of its flagship "Heroes Sail Free" program that includes a first-of-its-kind onboard experience.

The most significant update for 2026 is the unveiling of Heroes Hall, a dedicated venue debuting aboard the line’s newest flagship, Beachcomber, when it launches from Miami in January 2027.

Moving beyond simple discounts, the space is designed as an immersive, walk-through gallery featuring large-format photography and memorabilia that bring the stories of service members to life. “Our continued commitment to honoring those who serve our communities at home and abroad will only expand with the launch of Beachcomber and our first venue dedicated to Heroes,” says Christopher Ivy, CEO of Margaritaville at Sea.

For those looking to sail sooner, the brand is launching a Heroes “At Sea” Giveaway throughout May. The contest offers active and former duty military, first responders, nurses and educators the chance to win a seven-night Caribbean cruise for two sailing from Tampa. Travelers can enter while onboard any current sailing or be nominated by family and friends online.

The initiative is built on a "best-in-industry" foundation that honors active and former duty military, first responders, nurses and educators with meaningful experiences both onboard and beyond the ship. As Ivy notes, "Heroes month is about more than recognizing the Heroes who sail with us every day. It’s about creating real moments of connection, gratitude and well-earned escape onboard our ships." This gratitude extends to the daily schedule, with expanded Heroes Salutes and commemorative pins, specifically timed to coincide with Teacher Appreciation Week, National Nurses Week and Memorial Day.

To ensure the program reaches the right people, Margaritaville at Sea is continuing its partnership with GOVX and Hire Heroes USA. “From onboard recognition to initiatives like the Heroes ‘At Sea’ giveaway, this program continues to evolve in ways that are both meaningful and measurable,” says Alan Cole, CEO of GOVX. Whether it’s through the quick three-night escapes from Palm Beach or the longer 2027 itineraries out of Miami, the message is clear: for those who serve the community, the 'Island State of Mind' is always waiting to welcome you home.

Andrew Walker Reveals Why His New Hallmark Movie Was Inspired by 'Titanic' (Exclusive)

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:00am

Bringing the glamour, splendor, and tradition of the Kentucky Derby to life, just ahead of the 152nd anniversary, is Hallmark’s Kentucky Roses, starring leading man Andrew Walker.

The sweeping multi-generational love story leans heavily into everything Derby culture is known for: fashion, roses, racing, and time-honored Southern traditions. The film marks more than 18 Hallmark movies for Walker, who also serves as executive producer. Kentucky Roses premieres on Derby Day, May 2.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

“When I was talking about how this story should unfold, I kept coming back to Titanic, and how you enter through the discovery of the necklace,” Walker exclusively told Parade.

That framing device helps unlock a story steeped in more than a century of history at Churchill Downs, something that Walker was determined to honor.

The film follows Ash Taylor, the son of Frank Reed (Gilmore Girls' Gregg Henry), the CEO of Churchill Downs, who is determined to forge his own path, and Sadie Moore (Odette Annable), a gifted greenhouse worker on the verge of becoming a top florist.

Walker, best known for Hallmark’s Three Men trilogy and The Perfect Catch, first broke out in the sci-fi film Laserhawk and has appeared in series including Sabrina the Teenage Witch, CSI: Miami, The Big Bang Theory, and Reba. Annable is known for her roles in Supergirl, Walker, and House.

Together, their characters form an unlikely partnership to save the iconic Kentucky Derby rose blanket while uncovering a long-lost love story between Ash's great-uncle Charlie — nicknamed Lefty (Peyton Meyer) — and Sadie's great-grandmother, Gloria (Ally Ledford).

“We tell this story through the lens of a discovered family heirloom,” Walker explained. “It brings us back to a love story that couldn’t survive because of family expectations. It’s beautiful, especially with Churchill Downs as the backdrop.”

Walker also connected deeply with his character’s drive for independence. “My parents supported my acting, but they were protective,” he said. “That’s similar to Ash—he’s always gone against the grain and never wanted anything handed to him on a silver platter based on his father’s connections and status.”

Like his character, Walker understands the need to prove oneself. “It takes a mother to mediate sometimes,” he added with a laugh. “And in this case, following her advice leads him somewhere he never expected: Falling in love.”

Walker said that working with Annabel, who marks her first Hallmark movie with Kentucky Roses, was a sheer pleasure. "She is extremely easy to have chemistry with."

Their first scene takes place midway through the movie. They are at a bar, and he tells her about his family's expectations and how they contrast with his father's expectations for him. "Then we step out onto the dance floor, and we see the photo of Lefty and Gloria together. There were many great moments both before and after that."

Related: Andrew Walker to Star in Hallmark’s Newest History-Making Crossover Movie Event

One of the film’s biggest draws is how fully it immerses viewers in Derby life. The Hallmark team spent 10 of 15 filming days at Churchill Downs.

“We saw every nook and cranny of that building,” Walker said. “You’re talking about 150-plus years of history layered into that building. Every corner tells a story.”

He was especially fascinated by the bugle tower. “The man up there has made it his own little world, filled with his little knick-knacks that make it his home. If only those walls could talk, it would be incredible.”

And then there are the hidden gems. “There are three speakeasies on the property,” Walker revealed. “In one, you touch a horse’s hoof in a portrait, and a hidden door opens. It’s wild.”

Beyond the glamour, he was struck by the tight-knit community behind the scenes. “The backside of Churchill Downs is like its own town—with a school, grocery store, even sports leagues,” he said. “In Louisville, everyone is connected to the track in some way. It’s part of the city’s identity.”

The film’s 1920s-set flashbacks add old-fashioned charm, telling the story of a forbidden romance divided by class. “It feels like a more grown-up Hallmark movie,” Walker said. “That’s what’s going to resonate—it’s not your typical love story.”

That contrast between past and present drives the film’s emotional core.“You see how love evolves,” he said. “My character is willing to fight for the girl of his dreams; something that his great uncle couldn’t.”

Walker also reflected on his close bond with Three Wise Men holiday trilogy co-stars Paul Campbell, his wife’s cousin, and his other pal, Tyler Hynes.

“There’s no competition between us,” he said. “I would love to do more movies with them. We complement each other, and we always have each other’s backs.”

The race scenes in Kentucky Roses are another highlight, capturing the energy of the Derby. “We filmed with locals, and watching it back, it really felt like being there,” Walker said. “That authenticity makes all the difference.”

A self-described “horse guy,” Walker relished the chance to dive deeper into that world. “Early on, I had a tough experience riding,” he admitted. “But later, working with great wranglers on Westerns changed everything. Now I love it.”

At its heart, Kentucky Roses is about community, which is something Walker believes Hallmark consistently delivers.

“These movies bring people together,” he said. “They give audiences a sense of hope, joy, and connection -- a throwback to a time when neighbors looked out for each other.”

Kentucky Roses premieres on Hallmark on Saturday, May 2, at 8/7c.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Former SWAT Commander Explains What Changes After 90 Days (Exclusive)

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:24am

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1, with today marking three months (89 days) since she was last heard from or seen. As the investigation into her disappearance continues, Parade reached out to former Pima County SWAT commander Bob Krygier to ask how things may evolve as the case moves into its fourth month.

"The three month mark is really insignificant to the investigators," Krygier tells me. "The public and the media are really the only ones keeping track of days at this point. The task force to include the Sheriff's Department and FBI folks are working diligently. Whether it's day one or day 90. They will continue to do so until they have exhausted all their leads, processed all the evidence and continued to consult with everyone involved."

Krygier says the passage of time does not speed up an investigation, noting that cases tend to progress “organically” and that rushing the process can lead to mistakes.

“Don’t think for one second that the investigators aren’t working hard on this case—their goal is still the same: get justice for Nancy and the Guthrie family,” he says. “That means working hard, following protocols, dotting every I and crossing every T so when a suspect is captured, they are able to get the conviction that they need.”

While Krygier said things “don’t really change” at this stage of an investigation, he emphasizes that the hope for resolution remains strong, even in long-running cases.

“Hopefully it’s the identification, arrest, and conviction of a suspect or suspects. That would include bringing Nancy home. But the reality is, in some time the case might go cold,” he says. “You can watch any true crime program and realize that it is not uncommon for cases to be solved 20, 30, 40 years later. The reality is everyone working this case right now might be retired by the time someone is identified as a suspect. But I do trust that the investigators will work just as hard as they need to until that time comes."

Anyone with information about Nancy’s whereabouts or who may be responsible for her disappearance is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen’s Courtroom Drama—Who Gets Custody of the Pair’s Son?

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:22am

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Taylor Frankie Paul’s recent custody battle took a turn during an April 30th court date. The mom of three and ex, Dakota Mortensen, faced off after a contentious few months that included a viral video, domestic assault allegations, and plenty of off-screen drama.

Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen’s Relationship Timeline

This isn’t exactly the first public controversy for the reality TV star. The #MomTok influencer gained notoriety after a ‘soft-swinging’ scandal within her Mormon influencer friend group broke publicly. Following a divorce from her then-husband, Tate Paul, Taylor joined the newly formed cast of Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives as the show’s primary figure.

The first season of the hit series aired in September of 2024. Two years prior to the premiere (in 2022), Paul began dating Dakota Mortensen. The show chronicled her relationship with Mortensen and her friendships within the MomTok group, painting Paul as somewhat volatile and always outspoken.

In 2023, the MomTok star was arrested following an alleged physical altercation with Mortensen. Three years later, a video of the incident surfaced, stopping production on the fifth season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and nixing Paul’s stint on The Bachelorette

As we all know now, the conflict between Paul and Mortensen didn’t end there. Last month, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced it would not file criminal charges against Paul. But that still left the custody of her youngest child up in the air.

Who Are Taylor Frankie Paul’s Children?

The reality TV star has three children. She co-parents her two oldest, daughter Indy (born in 2016) and son Ocean (born in 2020), with ex-husband Tate Paul. She shares her youngest child, son Ever (born in 2024), with Mortensen.

Mortensen filed for a protective order against Paul in March 2026. He was awarded temporary custody of the couple’s son, Ever, at the time. In early April, a judge granted Paul supervised visitation until the pair’s April 30 court date.

On April 30, the court granted both of the reality TV stars mutual protective orders, with Third District Court CommissionerRussell Minas saying (of the couple being in the same place at the same time), “All of the evidence seems to suggest that’s a bad idea.” The three-year orders require Paul and Mortensen to stay at least 100 feet apart or face criminal charges.

Who Got Custody of the Reality Stars’ Child?

While the court issued protective orders, it did not announce a custody arrangement. Instead, Minas will make written recommendations based on the evidence provided by May 11. A review hearing to determine parent time schedules is set for June 1.

Dollywood Hosts First-Ever Race Weekend—Here's Why It’s the Best Theme Park Run Yet

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:10am

Theme park race events are a popular way to experience your favorite park in an entirely new way: Disney Parks has been hosting them for decades, attracting thousands to each of its annual themed races. I’ve participated in several and have discovered along the way that they can be highly addicting, fun and challenging in ways completely different than your average race.

And now this beloved East Tennessee theme park is getting in on the action.

In late April, Dolly Parton’s Dollywood hosted the inaugural Run Dollywood Race weekend, building on the success of its long-running Light The Way 5k. I've visited Dollywood over 50 times and decided I had to check it out myself: and I had a front row ticket to all the action as a running participant. The weekend included a race expo, followed by the main events of a 5k, 10k, half marathon and kids’ 1-mile fun run. It’s the brainchild of The Dollywood Company's president Eugene Naughton, a passionate runner and accomplished marathoner.

From on-course cinnamon bread to blonde wigs as far as the eye could see, here is what the inaugural Run Dollywood Race weekend was like.

I’ve done other theme-park races and recall feeling absolutely overwhelmed by the race expo and packet picket. I was thoroughly impressed with Dollywood’s process and easily picked up my bib from its on-site resort, Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort. The expo was also the spot to purchase adorable, exclusive race merchandise and pick up goods from specialty retailers. This immediately set the tone for the experience to come and you'd never know it was the event's first year.

Race Experience

Races were held over the course of two days and began in the parking lot of Dollywood’s Splash Country Water Park, adjacent to Dollywood Theme Park. Easing the stress of pre-race jitters, parking and arriving at the starting line was a breeze, an impressive task as nearly 6,000 people from around the world competed.

I opted to run the 10k as the course afforded the opportunity to travel through both Dollywood Theme Park and Splash Country Water Park. The 6.2 mile course was challenging with the Smoky Mountain’s signature hills, but that was eased by the sights along the way (there’s a particular thrill in passing dormant attractions before day guests arrive, like one of its newest, The Dolly Parton Experience).

And if you’ve been to the Smokies during springtime, you can attest to how stunning it is. The picturesque theme park is celebrating its annual Dollywood’s Flower & Food Festival which sees the addition of over 1 million blooms and stunning flower structures throughout the park.

Throughout the course, there was live entertainment, including the beloved Dollywood character Miss Lillian who was on hand to meet and pose for photos with guests. Undoubtedly a highlight was the on-course cinnamon bread. The theme park had created specialty molds for bite-sized pieces of its most iconic dessert. During the half-marathon, some attractions were open, including fan-favorite Blazing Fury. Staff was on hand throughout with words of encouragement and hydrating beverages.

Participants dressed for the occasion with many in themed attire—there were lots of butterflies, famously Dolly’s favorite animal—and even some dressed as the park’s dreamer-in-chief herself, Miss Parton.

Keeping in theme, I ended the race’s last mile with a constant loop of Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ blasting in my ears. The entire experience felt like a celebration.

What To Know

Staying on-site at one of Dollywood’s two resorts, Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge & Resort and Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort & Spa, makes for the ultimate (and most convenient) way to experience Run Dollywood Race weekend. Each resort offers private shuttles to the race start adding ease to experience. There’s also other enhancements, like a pre-race dinner and theme park ticket packages. And for the running enthusiasts, there’s the Butterfly Challenge which rewards runners who truly earn their wings by taking on the 5k, 10k and half marathon with an exclusive medal. All runners, regardless of course, receive an event-specific t-shirt, race bib, and commemorative medal.

A minimum pace of 16:00 is expected. And don’t be surprised by the hills: this course might be a bit of a challenge for someone who hasn’t properly trained or is used to walking on flat terrains. Accommodations can be made in advance for racing wheelchairs, walkers and other devices.

What’s To Come

The inaugural Run Dollywood weekend proved so popular that a second one has been added for Fall during the park’s acclaimed Harvest Festival—and you won’t want to miss the acclaimed Great Pumpkin LumiNights which adds thousands of carved pumpkins and light structures to the park. It’s expected to be held Sept. 26-27, and interested participants can sign up now to receive notification about registration details.

Voted the #1 theme park in the U.S. by Tripadvisor users, the Dollywood Resort is in the midst of an exciting and rapid expansion. Now in its 41st season, visitors can expect new experiences and attractions, including a first-of-its-kind indoor hybrid water raft ride and family coaster, NightFlight Expedition, opening soon.

Patrick Muldoon’s Sudden Death at 57 Now Has an Answer

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:08am

For a generation of television viewers, certain faces never fade. They remain tied to a time when storylines felt huge and characters became part of daily life. The sudden loss of one of those familiar faces is always difficult, especially when the details arrive days later.

New information has now confirmed how Patrick Muldoon died at age 57, following the shock of his sudden passing earlier this month. The actor, widely recognized for his roles on Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, died on April 19 after collapsing at his home.

According to official records, Muldoon’s cause of death was a myocardial infarction, the medical term for a heart attack. Additional contributing factors included a pulmonary embolism and a hereditary blood clotting disorder.

The confirmation brings some clarity to a moment that felt abrupt for fans and colleagues alike. In the days immediately following his death, tributes poured in across social media, many reflecting not just on his work, but on the feeling of growing up with him on screen. Muldoon first rose to prominence in the early 1990s as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, a role that helped define one of the show’s most memorable eras.

He later transitioned into primetime television with Melrose Place, cementing his place in a decade of television that continues to resonate with audiences today. His presence extended beyond those roles, including appearances in projects like Starship Troopers, but it was his work in serialized TV that made him a recognizable and consistent figure in millions of homes.

What made the news particularly jarring was its timing. Muldoon had remained active professionally, with upcoming projects still in development, and had recently shared enthusiasm about future work. The sudden nature of his death, followed by the delayed release of details, left a gap that many fans were still trying to process.

In the days since, fellow actors and longtime collaborators have described him as warm, energetic, and deeply connected to the people around him. Those tributes have underscored the sense that Muldoon belonged to a specific era of television that continues to live on through reruns, streaming, and memory.

The confirmation of his cause of death closes one chapter of the story, but the response to his passing reflects something more enduring. For viewers who remember the height of ’90s television, Muldoon remains part of a shared cultural moment that still feels close, even decades later.

Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s 1967 Wedding Cake: The 5-Foot Tower That Used 20 Pounds of Crisco

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:00am

When Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas in 1967, the world expected an event. The couple were supposed to marry in California but the press caught wind of the plans, so the pair flew to Las Vegas to wed on May 1, trading one spectacle for another. The newlyweds were the top story, but the cake was the real star of the room. The cake, which cost $3,200 back when a brand-new car would set you back about $2,500, was an edible monument to 1960s excess. The confection dripped in light-pink frosting and came loaded with enough kirsch to make a guest lightheaded before the first dance.

The King didn't build a career on subtlety. Reports claim the star wanted something that looked like it belonged in a palace, even if it would end up in a floral-carpeted suite in Vegas. Designed and styled by the chef of the Aladdin hotel, Bjorn Jaeger, and made by the hotel’s pastry chef. Denis Martig, the recipe used 20 pounds of Crisco and 576 eggs. The final touches on the cake's recipe included 500 silver balls and 50 sugar hearts for extra sparkle.

The flavor profile was pure ‘60s camp. ““The cake itself was a yellow sponge cake. Each layer was filled twice with apricot marmalade and a kirsch flavored Bavarian cream,” Martig once said. All the layers were glazed with kirsch flavored fondant icing and decorated with royal icing and marzipan roses.”

The famous photo of Elvis and Priscilla cutting the cake shows the scale of the dessert. Priscilla had to reach up to chest level to find a spot to slide the knife. And that was just the second level. Because this was a Presley event, they had more than one cake, with dozens of smaller versions made for the press and staff.

Photo by Bettmann on Getty Images

Yet the big one remained the centerpiece. It sat perched on a table and served alongside silver platters of fried chicken, oysters Rockefeller, and poached salmon. It was a mix of Southern comfort and Vegas glitter.

It remains the most famous wedding cake in pop culture history. Elvis’s wedding cake was exactly like the man himself: too much, and yet, somehow, exactly enough. If you’re looking to recreate it, maybe skip the 20 pounds of shortening. But keep the brandy. Elvis would have wanted it that way.

Netflix Is Dropping 5 New Movies in May, But This Gem Is Our #1 Pick

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 7:00am

Netflix, along with all of the other major streaming services, tends to rotate and shake up its movie offerings every month, and May is no exception. We looked into the films the massive streamer is adding this month and found five standout flicks for cinephiles.

Funnily enough, each one of these Netflix additions comes from the ‘90s, arguably one of the best decades in movie history. And while four of the films, including the Julia Roberts rom-com classic Pretty Woman, were well-received upon release, one of them was a titanic (no pun intended) financial flop. But we still think it’s well worth a watch!

If you’re ready to stream some great films, especially if you love ‘90s nostalgia, here are the best movies to watch on Netflix this May.

Released in the wake of heavy negative publicity surrounding the ever-expanding budget and production crises, director Kevin Reynoldssci-fi film is set in a submerged Earth of the future, where melting polar ice caps have wreaked havoc on the planet. It follows a mutant Mariner (Kevin Costner), who reluctantly protects a woman and a young girl while searching for the mythical "Dryland."

As entertainment, Waterworldis uneven but very exciting. As a landmark of Hollywood in 1995, it’s fascinating. Trust us, this is one movie you don't want to miss.

4. Pretty Woman (1990)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

It's hard to find a more iconic romantic comedy than Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts, whose face belongs on the Mount Rushmore of the genre, plays a bright-smiled, big-hearted prostitute. She's picked up by Richard Gere, who can't figure out how to drive a stick-shift car, and he likes her so much he hires her to be his date for some work events. Of course, one thing leads to another, and true love is found!

3. Father of the Bride (1991)
  • Coming to Netflix: TBD

One of the greatest comedy duos of the modern era is Martin Short and Steve Martin. And over 30 years ago, they teamed up in a pair of films about a man struggling to accept that his daughter has grown up in Father of the Bride

Martin plays the titular dad who plans his daughter’s wedding with the help of his wife (played by Diane Keaton) and a zany wedding planner named Franck (Short), not to be confused with Frank. The sequel, in which mother and daughter are both pregnant, is just as good. The Vatsnik, however, has created a deeply rooted fear of sleeping meds I can't shake.

2. Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

This iconic film weaves together two stories, both of which explore themes of friendship, love and self-discovery, across multiple generations. Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker star as young women in the 1920s South, Kathy Bates turns up as an unhappy 1980s housewife, and Jessica Tandy plays the elderly woman who ties both tales together (with the help of some fried green tomatoes).

Universal Pictures

1. Schindler’s List (1993)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

Steven Spielberg‘s staggering biopic starring Liam Neesonas Oskar Schindler, a wartime industrialist credited with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews, is widely considered to be one of the best films ever made. The director famously didn’t make any money from the picture that grossed over $320 million worldwide. He instead used the profits to create the Righteous Persons Foundation, dedicated to ensuring “the moral lessons of the Holocaust are not forgotten.”

Schindler’s List is a masterwork that everyone should see at least once. It’s harrowing, but it’s also an inspiring testament to the power of an individual to make positive change.

37 Years Ago In 1989, Reba McEntire Topped the Charts With a Heartbreaking Song She Didn't Write

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:44am

On May 1, 1989, Reba McEntire released Sweet Sixteen, her appropriately titled sixteenth studio album. The release quickly became one of the most dominant of her career because it was packed with hits and staying power.

In fact, the record spent an impressive 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard country albums chart, fueled by four successful singles: "Walk On," "Til Love Comes Again," "Little Girl," and another standout track that carries a particularly interesting legacy.

That's because the song "Cathy’s Clown" is a remake of the 1960 classic originally recorded by The Everly Brothers.

Written by Don Everly and Phil Everly, the original version was a massive pop hit, known for its emotional vulnerability and tight sibling harmonies. It topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks starting May 23, 1960.

Nearly three decades later, McEntire, 71, took that familiar heartbreak and reshaped it for a country audience. Impressively, the country queen managed to do so without losing the song’s core sentiment.

Rather than simply covering the track, McEntire reinterpreted it. Her version leaned into a more dramatic, narrative-driven style, swapping the Everlys’ polished harmonies for a solo vocal performance filled with nuance and quiet intensity.

It was a shift that made the song feel less like a pop lament and more like a deeply personal country confession. The production followed suit, trading the original’s orchestral pop feel for a cleaner, contemporary country arrangement that fit seamlessly into late-1980s radio.

The gamble paid off because McEntire’s version of "Cathy’s Clown" climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Like so many covers of songs, her take on the oldie proved even a well-known hit could find new life in the right hands.

More importantly, McEntire's remake demonstrated her skill as someone who could take existing material and make it distinctly her own.

Within the context of the album Sweet Sixteen, the song stood as both a tribute and a transformation. It connected McEntire to an earlier era of popular music while reinforcing her place at the forefront of country in 1989.

1977 Horror Film, Originally Censored in the United States, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 49 Years Later

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:21am

Nearly five decades after shocking audiences for all the wrong reasons, the 1977 horror sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic is suddenly finding new attention.

The movie recently ranked No. 28 on Rotten Tomatoes’ “30 Most Popular Movies Right Now,” surprising horror fans because the film has long been known as one of the most criticized sequels ever made.

Released four years after the groundbreaking 1973 film The Exorcist, the sequel followed Regan MacNeil, played again by Linda Blair, as she continued recovering from demonic possession. The film also starred Richard Burton, Louise Fletcher and Max von Sydow.

Even though the movie is now climbing popularity rankings, its reputation remains harsh. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives the film a 10% critic score and a 13% audience score. The site’s critics consensus reads: “Hokey mystical effects, lousy plotting and worse acting directly tarnish the first's chilling legacy.”

The sequel was directed by John Boorman, who took the franchise in a very different direction from the terrifying original movie. Instead of focusing only on horror, the sequel mixed science fiction, religion, psychology and mystical themes.

The story centers on Father Philip Lamont investigating the death of Father Merrin, the priest who died during Regan’s exorcism years earlier. The film introduced strange new ideas, including mind-linking machines, psychic powers, locust swarms and spiritual visions in Africa.

While the movie earned more than $30 million at the box office against a reported $14 million budget, audiences and critics reacted badly almost immediately after release.

At the time of its 1977 release, many viewers were stunned by how different the sequel felt compared to the original classic.

Film critic Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune reportedly gave the movie zero stars and called it “the worst major motion picture I've seen in almost eight years on the job.”

Still, not every reaction was negative.

Famous filmmaker Martin Scorsese later defended the movie’s deeper themes, per Collider. Scorsese said the film explored whether “great goodness bring[s] upon itself great evil,” adding that the movie “deserved better than it got.”

Over the years, the sequel slowly developed a cult following. Some viewers began praising its unusual visuals, dreamlike storytelling, and music composed by Ennio Morricone.

According to Britannica, the film was “widely panned” after release but later gained cult status among movie fans interested in ambitious Hollywood misfires.

That renewed interest appears to be growing again in 2026 as horror fans revisit older franchise films online and through streaming services.

Part of the movie’s lasting attention comes from its troubled production history.

The original creators of The Exorcist, writer William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin, refused to return for the sequel because of lawsuits and disagreements tied to the first film.

Early plans reportedly called for a cheap sequel using unused footage from the original movie. But the project changed after playwright William Goodhart wrote a more ambitious script focused on philosophy, spirituality, and human consciousness.

Boorman later admitted he knowingly made a film very different from what audiences expected.

The production itself faced many problems. Scripts were constantly rewritten during filming, imported locusts used for scenes died quickly, and Boorman became seriously ill during production.

Even with its reputation, the sequel never completely disappeared. Special collector editions, Blu-ray releases, and screenings helped keep the movie alive among horror collectors and cult film fans.

A new 2025 documentary titled Boorman and the Devil also helped reignite discussion about the movie’s chaotic production and strange legacy. Now, almost 49 years after audiences first laughed, booed and walked out of theaters, Exorcist II: The Heretic is once again being talked about, this time by a new generation of curious horror viewers.

This Michigan Landmark With the World’s Longest Porch Turns 139 Today

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 6:10am

If you want to understand the true meaning of a "summer palace," you have to look toward the Straits of Mackinac. On May 1, 1887, the Grand Hotel officially opened its doors, built in a staggering 93 days to serve as the ultimate escape for Gilded Age travelers. Today, as it kicks off its 140th season, it remains one of the few places in the world where time doesn't just slow down—it practically stops.

The beauty of the Grand Hotel is rooted in its defiance of the modern world. There are no cars allowed on the island; guests arrive via horse-drawn carriage to a hotel that boasts the world’s longest porch (660 feet) and a strict dress code that requires a coat and tie for gentlemen after 6:30 PM. It’s a level of formality that might feel stifling elsewhere, but here, it’s the main attraction.

For many travelers, the hotel represents a "fairytale come to life." As one guest shared on Reddit: "I always thought the hype of Mackinac Island was a bit overblown... Glad to be proven wrong." And another who said, "It is a perfect remnant of the Gilded Age, if that’s what you’re after."

Experts agree that the hotel's longevity is no accident. It’s about the preservation of a very specific American tradition. Travel journalist Devorah Lev-Tov, writing for T+L, highlights the hotel's unique sensory experience: "A historic hotel dating back to 1887, known for its timeless design... the hotel offers a unique experience with its no-car policy on the island, relying on horse-drawn carriages and bicycles."

Even those who haven't stayed overnight find themselves drawn to the "Flirtation Walk" of that massive front porch. The late Dan Musser III, whose family managed the hotel for decades, once noted that the hotel’s success comes from a "turning point in the spring when you realize there's something special about this island, this hotel and what we try to do."

Whether you’re there to walk in the footsteps of the five U.S. Presidents who have visited, or you just want to sit in a rocking chair with a view of Lake Huron, the Grand Hotel remains the gold standard for "old-world" Michigan. Happy 139th to a landmark that still knows how to make an entrance.

1976 Country Album Carried a Hidden Debut From a Future Grammy Winner

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 5:59am

Fifty years ago on May 1, 1976, Johnny Cash released his 54th studio album.

But what they might not know are the two other reasons why the country legend's One Piece at a Time stood out for more than just its music.

At the time, Cash was already firmly established as one of country music’s most influential voices. One Piece at a Time marked a meaningful return to his roots because it was credited to "Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three." The core members were Luther Perkins, who played lead guitar, Marshall Grant on the bass, and W.S. Holland on drums.

Cash hadn't used the credit since the 1960s, which at the time served as a nod to the stripped-down, signature sound that helped define his early career. When fans saw Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three on One Piece at a Time, they knew they were getting that same musical style that first made Cash a star. Songs like "Daughter of a Railroad Man" and "Love Has Lost Again" capture that essence.

Ironically, Cash didn't write the country hit "Love Has Lost Again"—his daughter did.

Rosanne Cash wrote the tune before launching her own successful solo career. Cash putting the song on the album gave the world an early taste of her talent and served as a "passing of the torch" moment between the country musicgenerations

In the years that followed, Rosanne, 70, would go on to become a major force in country music in her own right with hits like "Tennessee Flat Top Box" and "Blue Moon With Heartache." But Cash's inclusion of her song on One Piece at a Time helped kick off all of that success.

She would go on to win four Grammy Awards, the first of which came in 1985. She won Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me." Rosanne has also won Grammys for:

  • Best Americana Album for The River & the Thread (2015)
  • Best American Roots Performance for "A Feather's Not a Bird" (2015)
  • Best American Roots Song for "A Feather's Not a Bird" with John Leventhal (2015)

Of course, country music fans know and love the album for the title track, which went on to become one of Cash’s most memorable hits of the era. It's a playful, storytelling-driven song about an auto worker who builds a car piece by piece over the years that showcased Cash’s enduring ability to blend humor, narrative, and relatability into a chart-topping country hit.
