1941 Film Named 'The Greatest Movie of All Time' Released 85 Years Ago Today

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:58am

On May 1, 1941, Citizen Kane premiered at the RKO Palace Theater—though by then, the film had already stirred up enough controversy to make its release anything but routine.

Directed by and starring a 24-year-old Orson Welles, the film had originally been scheduled to open at Radio City Music Hall. But as word spread that its central character resembled powerful newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, resistance quickly mounted, according to the History Channel. Hearst’s publications refused to run ads for the film, and behind-the-scenes pressure helped limit where and how widely it was released.

Despite strong reviews, Citizen Kane stumbled at the box office. It earned nine Academy Award nominations but took home just one, for Best Original Screenplay. At the Oscars, Welles was even met with boos, a reflection of how divisive the film had become.

But as the years passed, critics and filmmakers began to see Citizen Kane not as a misfire, but as something revolutionary. Its fragmented storytelling, shifting perspectives and deep-focus cinematography reshaped the language of film.

Instead of a straightforward rise-and-fall narrative, it presents the life of newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane (Welles) through a series of conflicting memories, all orbiting a single unanswered question: what was the meaning behind his dying word—"Rosebud"?

That layered structure—along with its blend of drama, satire and biography—set a new standard for what movies could be.

In the decades since, Citizen Kane has consistently been called the greatest film ever made, topping major critics’ polls and earning the No. 1 spot on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest movies of all time.

In 1998, renowned film critic Roger Ebert reviewed the film and wrote of it:

It is one of the miracles of cinema that in 1941 a first-time director; a cynical, hard-drinking writer; an innovative cinematographer, and a group of New York stage and radio actors were given the keys to a studio and total control, and made a masterpiece. Citizen Kane is more than a great movie; it is a gathering of all the lessons of the emerging era of sound, just as Birth of a Nation assembled everything learned at the summit of the silent era, and 2001 pointed the way beyond narrative. These peaks stand above all the others.

Eighty-five years after its debut, the story of Citizen Kane still carries a certain irony: a film once dismissed by audiences and nearly buried by controversy is now widely seen as the pinnacle of cinematic achievement.

'Game of Thrones' Episode That Shocked the World Ranked Among Best TV Episodes of All Time — And Readers Eagerly Anticipated It

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:54am

Some hours of TV are those you can’t prepare for. They come with shocking blows to the storyline, usually bringing a death that we didn’t see coming. For Game of Thrones fans, there have been plenty of deaths that rocked the plot, but there is one episode that stands out as top-tier TV.

Of course, book fans saw this episode coming. As readers, we eagerly anticipated the reaction from the show-first or show-only viewers, knowing that nobody would expect such a thing. After all, the good guys always win, right?

‘Rains of Castemere’ Is One of the Best TV Episodes of All Time

IMDb ranks Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 9 as one of the top TV episodes ever. It does rank just behind “Battle of the Bastards,” but it is still in a respectable sixth place. Out of all the hours of TV ever over the last century, it’s a damn good spot.

It’s not surprising, either. “The Rains of Castemere” is the hour also known as “The Red Wedding.” It’s the moment that everything changes in the balance of power. Up to this point, there was hope that Robb Stark would avenge his father’s execution, but his choice to marry for love rather than hold up his end of the bargain destroyed everything.

The Boltons and Frays made deals with the Lannisters, and major players in the Stark family were wiped out. Robb and his wife were shockingly killed, and that was followed by Catelyn. Outside of the Red Wedding, poor Grey Wind was killed while locked in his pen, and all Arya could do was watch in horror.

Nothing has ever really topped “The Red Wedding” when it comes to shock value, especially with the buildup to the murder. After all, try listening to the song “The Rains of Castemere” now and not think of the look on Catelyn’s face as she realized that they had all been betrayed.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ Book Did It Better — Slightly!

While it was certainly horrific to watch the massacre play out on the screen, there’s no doubt that the books did it better. It all takes place in A Storm of Swords, and we get a full section on how Catelyn feels as she experiences the situation.

We read about the lords rallying around Robb in a failed attempt to protect him. One of them even throws a table over him to try to save his life. Then we hear all of Catelyn’s thoughts as she realizes that it’s for nought. She thinks back to Ned, which had already broken everyone and changed what we thought we knew about how A Song of Ice and Fire would play out.

The show portrayed the book chapter well, though. As Robb says, “Mother” in such a boyish way, it hurts the heart to know that a son just wanted his mom to save him and hold him before his death. So yes, this hour of TV deserves to sit close to the top of the best TV episodes of all time.

Most People Forget This Crucial Shower Step—and It’s a Health Hazard

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:50am

You probably have a solid routine you rely on every time you hop in the shower. And odds are high this has been your go-to for years. But just because something is a habit for you doesn’t mean you're doing it right. You may actually be neglecting an important part of your hygiene without even realizing it.

Skipping this step could do everything from being no big deal to causing serious health problems. “It can create issues that allow wear and tear on the skin,” says Dr. Nicole K. Graf, DPM, founder and CEO of Lexington Podiatry in Lexington, Kentucky. Not only that, avoiding this step in the shower is unhygienic and will likely lead to odor, the opposite of what you’re attempting to do when you bathe.

If you don’t do this, there’s no need to panic: It’s a fixable issue. But doctors say that repeatedly neglecting this area of your hygiene could have big repercussions for your health down the road, especially if you have certain underlying health conditions.

The good news is? This step only takes a few seconds, allowing you to easily slot it into your existing shower routine without completely disrupting your system. But you need to know where you’re falling short to turn things around. Here’s what doctors want you to keep in mind—and do—in the shower.

Skipping This Crucial Shower Step Is a Health Hazard

It’s washing between your toes. “The spaces between the toes are warm, dark and prone to moisture buildup, which makes them a common site for bacterial and fungal growth,” says Dr. Brandon Maijala, DPM, a podiatrist at Care Podiatry in California. This is especially important if you wear closed-toe shoes for long periods of time, he adds.

While many people are good at washing the tops and bottoms of their feet, the spaces in between the toes are the most vulnerable areas, according to Dr. Melissa Lockwood, DPM, a podiatrist at Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates in Bloomington, Illinois. “Taking a few extra seconds to gently clean those areas helps prevent common foot problems before they start,” she tells Parade.

Need extra motivation to do this? “It's any area where we perspire more than other areas on the body,” says Dr. Richard H. Graves, DPM,a podiatrist at Sol Foot & Ankle Centers in Long Beach, California. Combine that with the damp, dark environment between your toes, and it’s a “fertile breeding ground” for fungus and bacteria, he warns.

Related: Experts Warn This Bathroom Surface Can Harbor Way More Germs Than You Realize

What Can Happen if You Skip This Step?

A few things can go wrong with your feet if you don’t wash between your toes. “The most common issue is called tinea pedis or athlete's foot,” Graf tells Parade. “Often it begins as itching, burning and peeling.” You may even see white, soggy-looking skin that scales and smells bad, she explains.

While that’s uncomfortable—and smelly—Dr. Lockwood says that things can get worse. “In more severe cases, especially in patients with diabetes or compromised immune systems, it can even progress to skin breakdown and invite a bacterial infection like cellulitis,” she warns.

In people with diabetes, poor circulation or immunosuppressive conditions, this can even progress to sepsis if it’s left untreated, according to Graf.

How to Properly Wash Between Your Toes

For many people, washing between their toes is as simple as using your normal body wash or soap on the area and then rinsing well, Dr. Graves says. “However, for some people, due to hereditary issues or systemic diseases such as diabetes and peripheral vascular disease, extra care must be taken to make sure the web spaces are clean,” he explains. “This could involve special anti-microbial soaps and adding in foot spray or powder after bathing.”

While you’re at it, don’t forget to dry between your toes. “Drying is very important,” Dr. Maijala says. “Moisture left between the toes creates an ideal environment for fungal and bacterial growth.”

Ultimately, what matters most is actually washing and drying your toes, Dr. Lockwood shares, explaining, “The key is being intentional—use your fingers or a soft washcloth to carefully clean between each toe."

Germany Is Apparently Home to the Most Overrated Natural Wonder— Do You Agree?

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:43am

Travelers love a bold headline, especially when it challenges expectations. A recent global analysis of natural wonders did exactly that by declaring two German sites tied for the title of the world’s most overrated natural wonders: the Königsstuhl chalk cliffs on Rügen Island and the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes in Thuringia.

The ranking came from a study by outdoor brand Icewear that analyzed more than 54,000 Google reviews across 75 natural wonders worldwide. Researchers scanned the reviews for positive keywords such as “beautiful,” “amazing,” and “breathtaking.” The German sites ranked lowest, with only 1.4 percent of reviews containing those enthusiastic descriptors, placing them at the bottom of the global list.

Königsstuhl Chalk Cliffs: A Dramatic Baltic Coastline With a Complicated Reputation

The Königsstuhl, which translates to “King’s Chair,” rises dramatically above the Baltic Sea on Germany’s largest island, Rügen. The chalk cliffs reach about 118 meters (387 feet) above the water, forming part of the scenic coastline within Jasmund National Park.

Related: Archaeologists Uncover Ancient 'Most Mysterious' Cult's Sanctuary in Germany

Geologically, these cliffs are fascinating. The chalk that forms the Rügen coast was deposited around 70 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous, when northern Germany was covered by a shallow sea. Over time, the remains of microscopic marine organisms accumulated on the seafloor and compacted into thick chalk deposits that later eroded into the dramatic white cliffs seen today along the Baltic coast.

Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes: A Colorful Cave With an Unusual Origin

The second German site, which tied for the “most overrated” title, could hardly be more different. The Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes, located in Thuringia, are an underground cave system famous for their vibrant mineral colors and dramatic stalactite formations.

Interestingly, the grottoes are not entirely natural. They began as an alum mine that operated until the early 20th century, when mining stopped, and groundwater gradually seeped through the tunnels. Over time, mineral-rich water left behind deposits that formed colorful stalactites and stalagmites, transforming the former mine into the shimmering underground landscape visitors explore today.

The grottoes are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as “the most colorful show caves in the world.” Visitors explore them through guided tours that reveal glowing chambers illuminated by carefully designed lighting.

Why “Overrated” Natural Wonders Still Deserve a Visit

When people hear the phrase “natural wonder,” they often picture epic landscapes like the Grand Canyon, towering waterfalls, or massive glaciers. Compared to those icons, a chalk cliff on the Baltic coast or a small cave system may seem less dramatic.

But travel has a way of reshaping expectations. Some of the most memorable places I have visited were not the largest or most famous. They were the quiet corners that revealed themselves slowly. The lesson is simple. Popular opinion does not always match personal experience.

Costco's latest deli find is being hailed as "such a win" for those looking for easy weeknight dinner ideas.

Rather than ordering out, Costco's Kirkland Signature Gyro Kit brings a little Mediterranean flavor right to your dinner table in just seconds.

Costco Buys was among the first to spot it in stores, noting that it is "already such a win," adding, "dinner just got SO much easier."

It's priced competitively at $6.99 a pound, with many clocking in around $21 for the full kit.

Costco Hot Finds noted that the pack is "loaded," with six pita breads and tons of gyro meat. "There is so much in this, enough to feed everyone or definitely meal prep for the week," she expressed, making the choice a no-brainer, especially as it's one of the deli items that consistently passes the taste-test among consumers.

"LOVE the Costco kits!! So easy and healthy too 😍," one customer chimed in, as someone else added, "I was impressed with how delicious this is. Another Costco meal winner."

Someone couldn't stop raving about the sauce, writing, "I could dip ANYTHING in that tzatziki sauce 🤤."

The Stars of 1982’s Most Beloved Film Flop, ‘Grease 2,’ Just Reunited on the Red Carpet

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:35am

It's a Grease 2 reunion for stars Lorna Luft, Adrian Zmed, Christopher McDonald, and Maxwell Caulfield!

The actors, who starred in the iconic 1982 sequel Grease 2, hit the red carpet during the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival at The Hollywood Roosevelt this week. Anyone familiar with the film will recognize the stars from their iconic roles. Luft, the daughter of Judy Garland, played blonde Paulette, while Zmed and McDonald played greaser T-Birds Johnny Nogarelli and Goose McKenzie. Caulfield, of course, played the new kid in school, Michael Carrington. Smiling on the red carpet, the group was thrilled to be back together again.

If you need a quick flashback, here's a reminder:

What Has Maxwell Caulfield Said About Working With Michelle Pfeiffer?

Last year, Caulfield opened up to Fox News Digital about why it was clear he and Pfeiffer probably wouldn’t have the same level of onscreen chemistry as John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who made the original film a runaway success.

“We did not have the kind of relationship thatJohn Travolta and Olivia Newton-John did,” he explained. “They were so symbiotic, they absolutely loved each other. Michelle and I only had to play being in love. And we both just got married. So, there was no question about any [lines] being crossed in that regard.”

While the duo worked well together, Caulfield admitted that he still thinks “Michelle is a bit of a sphinx, and that she has “always retained a certain mystery.”

While all the stars of the original film were instantly skyrocketed to superstardom, the actors weren’t sure how the response to Grease 2 would be in the public eye.

“I think we were both apprehensive about imminent stardom,” he said. “We would sometimes talk about how one would handle it, because it’s a very real thing to suddenly become world famous. It suddenly means, like everything in life, there’s a price to pay.”

What Happened to Caulfield After ‘Grease 2’?

Caulfield and Pfeiffer soon figured out what would happen in response to the film when it flopped. Hated by critics and pummeled by Steven Spielberg‘s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial at the box office, the movie didn’t get the response they hoped for. However, Pfeiffer’s star began to shine brightly. In 1983, she starred as the troubled Elvira Hancock in Scarface opposite Al Pacino

“When the film… didn’t take off, I went down with the ship,” Caulfield told Fox. “But she rose like a fabulous phoenix.”

Caulfield still hoped to find success and had several good roles. He did 49 episodes of The Colbys, a Dynasty spinoff starring Charlton Heston. Still, he hoped for film stardom.

“I did hope to be embraced by a movie-going audience,” he said. “I did aspire to represent a certain mantle of cool that movie stardom bestows upon you… There’s just something about achieving that kind of tremendous success,” he noted.

Of course, that iconic film role came several years later with his turn as the egomaniacal pop star Rex Manning in 1995’s Empire Records.

Empire Records?’ Never heard of it,” he joked while speaking to Fox. “Empire Records is an extraordinary thing. It’s up there with Grease 2 in terms of a movie that literally nobody went to see on the opening weekend, but thanks to you, kids, you revived it from the graveyard of cinematic bombs and elevated it to genuine cult status. And I did get to play a strutting peacock in that.”

As for his relationship with Pfeiffer, Caulfield said he’d love to star opposite the film icon.

“I hope one day to work with her again,” he shared. “She’s a wonderfully generous actress.”

A prolific stage actor, Caulfield recently starred in The Lost Gospel of Pontius Pilate.

One of the Best Beaches in the U.S. Is Between Tampa and Fort Myers and It Has 99% Pure Quartz Sand, Turquoise Water, and Stunning Sunsets

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:34am

Located just off Sarasota on a barrier island called Siesta Key, this stretch of shoreline has earned international attention for its unusual sand and calm Gulf waters. In fact, travel experts and industry professionals have repeatedly ranked it among the best beaches in North America and even the world. Judges have cited the beach’s powder-soft sand, gentle surf, and pristine environment as key reasons it stands out in global rankings.

Yet what makes Siesta Key memorable is not just a statistic or a ranking. It is the experience of walking barefoot across sand that feels like powdered sugar and stays cool even under the Florida sun. For travelers seeking a beach that feels both iconic and strangely peaceful, this place often becomes the highlight of an entire trip.

Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.

Why Siesta Key’s 99% Quartz Sand Feels So Different

Most beaches around the world are made of crushed shells, coral fragments, or darker mineral grains. Siesta Key is different. Its sand is composed almost entirely of quartz, a mineral that formed in ancient Appalachian rocks long before arriving on Florida’s shores. Over millions of years, erosion and river systems carried these tiny crystals south until currents deposited them along the Gulf Coast.

Because quartz is light in color and highly reflective, the sand appears dazzling white. But its composition also changes how it behaves underfoot. Unlike typical sand that absorbs heat, quartz reflects much of the sunlight. Even on a blazing Florida afternoon, the beach stays surprisingly cool to walk on. Travelers often notice another odd detail: when dry, the sand can produce a faint squeaking sound beneath your feet.

Scientists and beach experts frequently point to this unusual mineral purity as the defining feature of Siesta Key. Estimates suggest the sand contains around 99 percent quartz, giving it a silky, flour-like texture that many travelers describe as the softest they have ever felt.

What Travelers Should Know Before Visiting Siesta Key

A perfect beach day usually depends on timing. Siesta Key is no exception.

  • Best Time to Visit: The Gulf Coast climate is warm year-round, but spring and fall usually offer the best mix of sunshine, warm water, and manageable crowds. Summers tend to bring heavier humidity and frequent afternoon storms, while winter is typically mild and sunny.
  • Parking Tips: Parking can be one of the biggest challenges during peak months. When I was on the Gulf Coast, we arrived early in the morning to secure a spot near the main beach entrance. The beach itself is quite large, so even on busy days you can usually find a quieter stretch if you walk farther down the shoreline.

  • Amenities for a Full Beach Day: Siesta Key Beach has several amenities that make long visits comfortable, including lifeguards, restrooms, picnic shelters, and shaded areas. Nearby Siesta Key Village adds to the experience with casual seafood restaurants, ice-cream shops, and relaxed beach bars just minutes from the sand.
  • Nearby Beaches to Explore: Travelers looking for variety can also visit nearby beaches. Crescent Beach is popular for snorkeling around limestone formations, while Turtle Beach is generally quieter and known as a good spot for shell collecting.

'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Balances Nostalgia With Fresh Drama

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:31am

The Devil Wears Prada 2is officially in theaters! Fans have been anxiously awaiting the sequel, which came out 20 years ago this June. The core four return in the highly anticipated sequel—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and the incomparable Stanley Tucci.

I was lucky enough to get invited to a private screening of the film—the only one on the East Coast—at Ocean Casino Resort. And what I saw did not disappoint.

You might expect a sequel like DWP2 to lean on the many iconic moments from the first film. But this movie doesn't do that! There's plenty of sharp dialogue, high-stakes fashion, and a commanding, unforgettable editor at the center of it all, but iconic lines like "That's all" are used few and far between. Instead relying solely on them, The Devil Wears Prada 2 leans on the original movies most iconic lines and moments as a tasteful injection of fanfare.

The script crackles with one-liners, many of them delivered with icy precision by Streep, 76, in her Oscar-nominated role as Miranda Priestly. Her performance remains the movie’s backbone—controlled, intimidating, and occasionally laced with just enough vulnerability to keep things interesting.

Opposite her, Hathaway, 43, grounds the story as Andy Sachs, now an award-winning journalist reentering a world she never forgot about.

And Blunt's, 43, Emily returns unassuming at first, but climbing the ranks in the unforgiving industry of fashion has made her more cutthroat than ever.

Like any good sequel, there are a few moments in DWP2 that might catch fans off guard. It touches on hot-button issues like AI in the journalism space, agism in the workplace, and millennials’ heightened sensitivity to workplace culture.

Of course, fashion lovers will find plenty to admire in this film. The designer name-dropping knows no bounds; and the looks are as enviable as ever.

Ultimately, The Devil Wears Prada 2 endures because it balances glamour with realism. It delivers the fantasy of breaking into an elite world while quietly questioning whether that world is worth the price of admission.

For fans, that mix is exactly what keeps the sequel relevant.

2007 Comedy Film, Disqualified From Oscars, Still Became an International Hit

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:30am

The Band’s Visit, an Israeli comedy-drama, charmed viewers with its unique storyline but failed to secure a place at the Oscars after it was disqualified from the Best Foreign Language Film category.

In 2007, acclaimed filmmaker Eran Kolirin wrote and directed the movie as his directorial debut.

The story centers around the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra, an Egyptian police band, which was stranded in a small town in the middle of the desert after a mix-up with their transportation.

After the townspeople discovered it, they helped the band get settled for the night.

However, they didn't know that this simple and brief interaction would lead to an unexpected yet meaningful connection between the musicians and the local residents as they shared personal stories about love, loss and hope.

The cast lineup features talented international actors from Israel and Palestine, headlined by award-winning star Sasson Gabai, who played the strict Lieutenant Colonel Tawfiq Zacharya, who was also the conductor of the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra.

Along with the lieutenant was the band’s young trumpet player, Haled, portrayed by Saleh Bakri.

In addition, joining the duo as a lead star is Ronit Elkabetz, who played the role of Dina, the owner of the small cafe in the fictional town of Bet Hatikva.

How The Band’s Visit Went from Box Office Hit to Disqualification From Oscars Race

With its theatrical debut, The Band’s Visit became a commercial success, earning $65,206,105 domestically and an additional $33,243,957 internationally, for a worldwide total of $98,450,062, an impressive return against a $5 million production budget.

At the time, the top five countries contributing the most sales were Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy, with sales ranging from two to five million dollars.

Beyond its box office success, the Eran Kolirin-directed movie was adapted into a Broadway musical, with its world premiere in December 2016.

Proving its widespread acclaim, the musical adaptation won 10 major honors at the 2019 Tony Awards, including the “big six” from Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.

However, amid its Broadway success, it failed to secure a nod at the Oscars after it was rejected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

As reported by Variety, The Band’s Visit was deemed ineligible for the Best Foreign Language Film category because the Academy requires its entries to be “predominantly in a language other than English,” according to an Academy spokesperson.

The decision sparked disappointment within the Israeli film industry following the nation’s official submission in the foreign-language Oscar category.

Here’s Why a Cemetery Should Be at the Top of Your NYC Travel List

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:28am

New York City is famous for bright lights, packed sidewalks, and world-class museums. But another destination quietly drawing curious travelers in Brooklyn might surprise you. It is a cemetery.

Green-Wood Cemetery, located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, has become one of the city’s most unexpected travel experiences. Established in 1838, the sprawling landscape spans roughly 478 acres, featuring hills, ponds, trees, and winding paths. It was designed during the “rural cemetery” movement, when burial grounds were intentionally built to resemble scenic parks rather than cramped churchyards.

In fact, in the nineteenth century, the site became such a popular destination for strolls and carriage rides that it rivaled major tourist attractions. Visitors came not just to mourn but to enjoy the peaceful landscape. More than half a million people visit annually, drawn by the mix of history, architecture, and nature hidden behind the cemetery’s dramatic Gothic gates.

Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.

The New Greenhouse That Welcomes Curious Visitors

Known as The Green-House, the space wraps around the restored 1895 Weir Greenhouse, a Victorian glass structure originally built by a Brooklyn florist. The building has been transformed into a welcoming hub with exhibitions, research spaces, and galleries that help visitors understand the cemetery’s history before exploring the grounds.

The greenhouse restoration was part of a larger effort to make the cemetery easier to explore. Inside, visitors can learn about the landscape, browse archival materials, and even pick up flowers before wandering among monuments and historic tombs. The goal is to create a gentle transition from the busy streets of Brooklyn to the reflective atmosphere of the cemetery.

Art, History, and the Stories Hidden Among the Graves

More than 600,000 people are buried there, including artists, musicians, politicians, and entrepreneurs who helped shape the city. Visitors often seek out the graves of notable figures such as artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose resting place has become one of the most visited sites within the cemetery, according to The New Yorker.

But even if you are not searching for famous names, the landscape itself tells stories. The cemetery sits on glacial hills that offer dramatic views of Brooklyn and New York Harbor. Tree-lined avenues wind past elaborate mausoleums, sculptures, and quiet ponds.

What Travelers Should Know Before Visiting

The Green-House visitor center is located near 25th Street and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn and is open several days a week, with free admission. From there, visitors can begin exploring the cemetery’s miles of roads and walking paths. The easiest subway route is the R train to the 25th Street station, followed by a short walk uphill to the entrance, according to Green-Wood.

Guided tours are also popular and offer insight into the cemetery’s architecture, art, and famous residents. Seasonal events such as concerts, walking tours, and cultural programs take place throughout the year, adding another layer to the experience.

For travelers who want to see a different side of New York, Green-Wood offers something rare in the city: space to slow down.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff's Department Issues Renewed Plea 3 Months After Abduction

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:14am

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie, has officially been missing for three months following her Feb. 1 abduction in Tucson, Ariz.—and the sheriff's department just issued a renewed plea.

On Friday, May 1, the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) told Fox News Digital that the search for the 84-year-old "remains active and ongoing."

Additionally, the department issued another call to the public and local community members for their help as the investigation continues.

"Anyone with information related to the Nancy Guthrie case is encouraged to come forward," a spokesperson for the PCSD, which is leading the investigation alongside the FBI, told the outlet. "Please contact 88-CRIME or the FBI tip line at 1-800-225-5324."

On the evening of Jan. 31, Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home. The longtime Tucson resident remains missing, despite Savannah offering a $1 million reward—on top of the FBI's $100,000 reward and a separate $100,000 offer for information.

Although no suspect has been named in Nancy's case, there was a promising development in recent weeks. In mid-April, news broke that a private lab in Florida sent DNA evidence, a hair sample, to the FBI, which it is now processing in hopes of identifying who abducted Nancy.

“It can take months," genetic genealogist CeCe Moore told NewsNation on April 19, of new technology the FBI may use to extract DNA from a rootless hair.

She explained, "In my experience with them, I’ve already helped law enforcement solve six cases using rootless hair alone. And so, I know it can be done. My guess is that because this is not a cold case yet, and most of the cases are where we’re using rootless hair, that they will push this to the top of the priority list and get it done more quickly.”

In the meantime, Savannah returned to her Today co-anchor duties on April 6, for the first time since her mother went missing.

Aldi has built a cult following for its under-the-radar Mickey gear, offering pieces that are perfect for those who want a custom look without the "cloned" feel of standard gift shop merchandise.

According to Lacey Muszynski over at Cheapism, the April 29 "Aldi Finds" drop includes 17 different Disney items, but there is one specific standout that has park-goers sprinting to the checkout.

Best Comedy Movies That Are Coming to Netflix in May 2026

Sony Pictures

5. 13 Going on 30 (2004)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

Jennifer Garner couldn't be more charming in a fantasy rom-com that cemented her as a movie star. 13 Going on 30 is a gender-swapped twist on Big, co-starring Judy Greer and Mark Ruffalo. And while it was a modest hit with critics (and at the box office), the film was a huge bestseller on DVD.

Universal Pictures

4. The Breakfast Club (1985)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

Easily one of writer/director John Hughes’s best ’80s teen movies, this 1985 film feels more like a play, as a group of high schoolers spend one Saturday in an all-day detention pondering life. They couldn’t be more different, calling themselves “a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal.”

But as they goof off, argue, conspire against the assistant principal, and reveal much about their lives to each other, they all come out just a little bit more sure of themselves. Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy lead the ensemble cast.

20th Century Fox

3. Borat (2006)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

When British satirist Sacha Baron Cohenunleashed his misogynistic character Borat on an unsuspecting U.S.A., he wanted to expose Americans’ own blind spots. But the fictional Kazakh journalist in the ill-fitting suit also made America laugh, do countless bad impressions (“My wife!”), and gape at this unscripted, prank-filled feature film, which probably couldn’t have been made at any other time in film history.

2. Father of the Bride (1991)
  • Coming to Netflix: TBD

One of the greatest comedy duos of the modern era is Martin Short and Steve Martin. And over 30 years ago, they teamed up in a pair of films about a man struggling to accept that his daughter has grown up in Father of the Bride

Martin plays the titular dad who plans his daughter’s wedding with the help of his wife (played by Diane Keaton) and a zany wedding planner named Franck (Short), not to be confused with Frank. The sequel, in which mother and daughter are both pregnant, is just as good. The Vatsnik, however, has created a deeply rooted fear of sleeping meds that we can't shake.

1. Meet the Parents (2000)
  • Coming to Netflix: May 1, 2026

Perhaps the scariest rite of passage for any new couple is meeting your significant other's parents. Sure, plenty of parents are lovely, but there are also plenty of truly awful moms and dads waiting in the wings to wreak havoc. The Ben Stiller/Robert De Niro classic is about just that. Stiller's Greg is meeting his future in-laws for the first time, and Robert De Niro's Jack is not happy about it.

The original was such a success that it spawned two sequels, in which Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand arrive as Greg's parents.

May Birthstones: Learn All About Their Symbolism, Color and History

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 9:00am

Is there a month that's more "green" than May? Spring has sprung, flowers are blooming and the hillsides are covered in lush grass. Fittingly, the gorgeous green emerald is a perfect May birthstone to represent this time of year.

It’s also a stone of good fortune and prosperity. After all, another thing that’s well-known for being green is cash!

May’s secondary birthstone is agate. Agate is less rare than emeralds but no less beautiful. The semi-precious stone has been prized for ornamental purposes since ancient times, often carved into cameos or used to decorate vases and other objects.

Let's learn all about May's traditional and modern birthstones from an expert jeweler.

What Is the Traditional Birthstone for May?

"The traditional and modern birthstone for May is the emerald, known for its vibrant, gorgeous green color," shares jeweler Anna Radunsky.

She explains the significance: "Emeralds, like spring, are often associated with renewal and rebirth as well as prosperity because they have historically been linked to royalty."

What Is the Modern Birthstone for May?

The modern birthstone for May is agate.

May Birthstone Color

Traditionally, the birthstone for the month of May is green. This aligns with the emerald birthstone.

However, when it comes to the modern or secondary birthstone of agate, there's some variation in color. According to the National Museum of Natural History, "Agates are typically white, grey and yellowish-brown to reddish-brown, but shades of blue and green are sometimes also observed."

Is the May Birthstone Rare?

Yes, emeralds are considered quite rare gemstones—in fact, they are 20 times rarer than diamonds and often more expensive. They’re a variety of the mineral beryl and get their gorgeous green color from traces of vanadium chromium.

"Emeralds are very desirable because of their deep green shades and clarity," Radunsky adds.

Emerald Meaning and History

Emeralds have long been coveted for their rich green hue and are associated with royalty, renewal and prosperity. They’re also, unsurprisingly, linked to spring, symbolizing rebirth and a flourishing season.

However, the significance of emeralds extends beyond their associations with nature and wealth. In ancient Greece and Rome, emeralds were considered the gemstone of Venus, the goddess of love and hope. The ancients held emeralds in high regard, considering them sacred symbols of fertility and immortality. These precious stones were celebrated as emblems of rebirth and eternal love.

Where Is Emerald Found?

Radunsky shares that the major emerald sources are Colombia, Brazil and Zambia, which are prized for producing high-quality emerald deposits.

May’s alternative birthstone is agate.

"Historically, agate was admired for its protective qualities and was used as a talisman to ward off storms and dangers and to bring balance to the environment,” shares Radunsky. “Many agate artifacts and carvings have been discovered, dating back to Ancient Greece.”

Where Is Agate Found?

Unlike the rare emerald, agate deposits are found worldwide.

Radunsky shares that major sources of agate include Brazil—which is known for its large and colorful agates—Mexico—famous for its vibrant fire agates—and the United States, particularly in the western states where various types of agate are mined.

“Other notable sources include India, Madagascar, Mongolia and Australia." She adds. "Each region typically produces agates with distinctive colors and patterns, contributing to the stone's global appeal."

Jane Fonda’s Handsome Son, Troy Garity, Makes a Rare Red Carpet Appearance by Her Side

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:52am

Jane Fonda is hitting the red carpet, and she has her handsome son, Troy Garity, in tow!

The film legend and activist, 88, who rose to fame in legendary films like Klute, On Golden Pond, Barbarella, and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, is still going strong every day. While she's a frequent face on the red carpet, she's rarely joined by Garity, who prefers to fly under the radar. Together, the duo attended the 2026 TCM Classic Film Festival's Opening Night Gala screening of Barefoot In The Park at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California, this week.

What Does Jane Fonda's Son, Troy Garity, Do For a Living?

The son of Fonda and Tom Hayden, Garity is an actor who has appeared in TV series like Boss and Ballers. He even scored a Golden Globe nomination back in 2003 for his performance in Soldier's Girl, in which he portrayed Barry Winchell, a soldier who was murdered while he slept for dating a transgender woman.

How Does Jane Fonda Stay So Healthy?

As anyone who has seen Fonda work the red carpet knows, she's navigating her eighties with grace. Last year, Fonda opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about her incredible career trajectory and explained that she has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. But instead of taking on intense dance cardio these days like she used to, she prefers walking and strength training.

“It has to do with how you move, how you carry yourself, your posture,” she told THR. “And you can’t carry yourself well and have good posture if your back isn’t strong. So staying strong and flexible — and I work a lot on balance — this is all critical for staying young. I’m 87, and I’ll tell you what, I was a lot older at 20 than I am at 87, and it has to do with what’s going on in your head. So in some ways, I’m younger today. But it also just makes a huge difference as a performer; walking down a red carpet, for example, you can do it with confidence, because you don’t worry about falling down. It just makes all the difference in the world, and I feel very grateful that I’m able to continue doing it.”

Nancy Guthrie Exclusive: Brian Entin Gives Inside Look at SWAT Raid He Thought Was a Turning Point

Fri, 05/01/2026 - 8:24am

About two weeks into the Nancy Guthrie case, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department deployed a SWAT team to a neighborhood about two miles from her Arizona home. A perimeter was quickly set—but one person was especially close to the action: NewsNation reporter Brian Entin.

At the time, Entin was filming inside the perimeter and said that authorities "detained a man and a woman from the house and they also detained a man from a traffic stop at a Culver’s restaurant very close to that house."

No arrests were made and, while the raid was linked to the Guthrie case, it didn't provide the answers that everyone has been looking for.

Parade got an opportunity to talk with Entin in a recent interview and we asked him about that night—how he was feeling and what it was like.

"We somehow managed to get into the perimeter when they were busting inside the house, and we were live on NewsNation," Entin tells me, adding that his priority was making sure he didn't blow the operation's cover. "You don't want to put the officers' lives in jeopardy.
So I was trying to be really careful," he continued, adding, "we stayed in the car."

Although Entin's coverage was on NewsNation, he made sure not to disclose the location of the raid. There were some intense moments, but once people were brought out of the home, Entin says things were "calmer."

Among those detained that evening were a man named Luke Daley and his mother, Mary. Daley would later sit down with Arizona reporter Briana Whitney for an interview, during which he said he had nothing to do with Guthrie's disappearance.

"I, like everyone else, just want Nancy to come home and be safe, but, that being said, I have nothing to do with this case," he told Whitney.

Although the raid didn't end in an arrest, Entin thought that could have been the case's big break.

"At that point, I thought maybe this was it, maybe this was gonna be the resolution," he says. "They weren't going to find Nancy, but they were going to find who actually was responsible. And I didn't want to do anything to get in the way of that. But at the same time, I wanted to do my job."

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Anyone with information about her disappearance is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).

Entin is still covering the Guthrie case. He will be hosting a new television special, NewsNation Presents: The Nancy Guthrie Mystery, that will air on the CW on Wednesday, May 6, at 9 p.m. Eastern.

It’s either called Protection or In the Line of Fire. But Peter Krause, who was in Six Feet Under, [is] starring in it—Hope Davis.”

Meanwhile, yet another fan admitted, "You had me at Peter Krause."

Deadline reported on NBC's pilot order, executive produced by Bush Hager, Joshua Safran and Ben Spector, in January. Safran also wrote the script.

"When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents become the target of a mysterious assassin," a description of the pilot, tentatively titled Protection at that point, read.

It continued, "Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code."
