Hollywood has long celebrated many of its greatest filmmakers who left a powerful mark on the industry, yet Stanley Kramer remained one of the most talked-about cinematic figures of the ’60s era.

Considered the end of Hollywood’s Golden Age, the 1960s produced a slew of notable directors who delivered remarkable classics, from Psycho’sAlfred Hitchcock, 2001: A Space Odyssey’s Stanley Kubrick and Romeo and Juliet’s Franco Zeffirelli, among others.

However, Kramer managed to break into the mainstream with his masterful films that tackled significant social issues.

Celebrated as one of Hollywood’s most prominent directors and producers, he is known for his message-driven classics such as Inherit the Wind, Judgment at Nuremberg and more, which sparked cultural conversation and challenged audiences.

Throughout his filmmaking career, the New York native earned not only massive buzz from viewers but also multiple nominations from major award-giving bodies like the Academy Awards.

Has Stanley Kramer Ever Won an Oscar?

Kramer received a total of 80 Oscar nominations, including nine for his work as both a director and producer.

His first Best Director nomination was at the 1958 Oscars for the movie The Defiant Ones, but he lost to David Lean for The Bridge on the River Kwai.

Three years later, he received another nomination in the same category at the 34th Academy Awards for Judgment at Nuremberg, with the award ultimately going to Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins for West Side Story.

His last Best Director nomination was during the 40th Academy Awards for his 1967 movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Unfortunately, it was Mike Nichols for The Graduate who took home the coveted title.

Beyond his directorial nominations, Kramer also received individual nods for the Best Picture category in his films such as High Noon, The Caine Mutiny, The Defiant Ones, Judgment at Nuremberg, Ship of Fools and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, yet none secured him an Oscar at the time.

The possible reason for Kramer failing to secure an Oscar win was the stiff competition in the Best Director and Best Picture categories, as well as his distinct filmmaking style.

Despite never winning an Oscar in a competitive category, he achieved his sought-after Academy Award legacy when he was honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1962.

Presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the special recognition is considered one of the most prestigious honors and the highest distinction a producer can receive from the Oscars.

Many individuals have inflammation without even knowing it. Sure, this condition can present visible signs like redness and swelling, but sometimes, it isn’t as obvious. I’ve always had stomach problems, meaning everything seems to bother my stomach. After trying various diets and cutting out certain food groups like dairy—all of which were challenging to stick with long-term—I decided to give acupuncture a try.

My first session proved to be eye-opening. I learned I have inflammation in my gut—something my acupuncturist was able to tell simply by looking at my tongue. Crazy, right? And guess what? Inflammation can cause bloating and general discomfort. I felt I was in the right place.

I had always been curious—albeit skeptical—about acupuncture. My concerns were mainly because I didn’t truly understand how it worked. I learned that acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny needles in certain pressure points that contain a high concentration of nerve endings. The needles essentially activate the nervous system to help alleviate pain and reduce stress. By boosting blood flow, acupuncture also supports the body’s natural healing process and may help keep inflammation at bay.

“From a Traditional East Asian Medicine perspective, acupuncture is all about restoring flow. We talk about qi (vital energy) and blood moving through channels in the body—when that flow gets stuck or disrupted, we see symptoms like pain, inflammation, digestive issues or even emotional tension,” explains Dr. Haley Parker, L.Ac., HFSer, licensed acupuncturist and VUIM director of clinical operations (Virginia University of Integrative Medicine). “One of my favorite ways to explain this to patients is: The body doesn’t speak English, it speaks symptoms. Acupuncture helps us ‘translate’ and guide the body back into balance. I tell my patients that I take their clues and triangulate a diagnosis based on their signs and symptoms, pulses and tongue diagnosis. I then pick a point prescription, like 'coding to the brain’ to help reset the body and guide it to balance.”

I was curious to see whether acupuncture would move the needle—pun intended!—in helping to resolve the gut issues I’ve had over the past 10 years. Here’s what to know about my experience trying acupuncture for 30 days and how it improved my inflammation.

What Is Inflammation and How Can Acupuncture Help?

First and foremost, to fully understand my acupuncture experience, it’s important to know everything there is to know about inflammation. According to Doug Bertram, M.S., L.Ac., MTCM, the founder & CEO of Structural Elements, who has 30+ years of experience in the acupuncture space, inflammation is typically characterized by heat, swelling, redness and pain.

That said, inflammation technically isn’t a bad thing—it’s simply part of the healing process after experiencing stress, imbalance or injury.

“The problem is when the body gets stuck there. Instead of resolving and moving into repair, inflammation becomes chronic—and that’s when it starts to wear down tissues, disrupt normal function and contribute to issues like pain, fatigue, digestive problems and even mood changes,” Dr. Parker explains.

Many individuals with inflammation turn to acupuncture, as it helps boost blood flow and promotes the release of anti-inflammatory mediators, including neuropeptides and endorphins.

“This process enhances the body’s healing response through mechanotransduction, where the mechanical stimulation of needles activates sensory neurons, modulating inflammatory pathways via the central nervous system. This interaction can alter cytokine profiles and reduce pro-inflammatory markers,” Bertram tells Parade.

My Experience Doing Acupuncture for 30 Days

I went to Bo Acupuncture Healing in Westport, Connecticut. What drew me to this clinic was Bo’s focus on digestive issues and pain management. I was surprised to learn the wide spectrum of conditions acupuncture can help treat and navigate, including Lyme disease, menopause, fibromyalgia, arthritis, infertility and so much more.

My test period included weekly one-hour sessions. The shades were drawn in the treatment room, creating a very relaxing, spa-like environment that promoted pure rest. Each session began with me lying down on my back. My acupuncturist then inserted about 16 to 18 needles in various parts of my body, including my forehead, abdomen, legs and feet. I expected the needles to pinch or feel uncomfortable. Although everyone’s pain tolerance varies, I barely noticed them.

I remained still with the needles inserted, under two heat lamps to warm my body and simply relax me—a rare treat during a busy workday! After half an hour, I rolled over and she repeated the same process on my back.

Every other session, my acupuncturist also performed “cupping” on the small of my back, which involved placing plastic cups to suction out toxins, boost circulation and loosen up tight muscles.

The Results

After my first session, my gut definitely felt lighter. It made me look forward to my next visit and I was hopeful that I was finally on the right path. 

“After treatment, you can literally watch their body downshift. Shoulders drop, breathing deepens and often their pain or inflammation begins to ease—not because we ‘forced’ anything, but because we helped the body regulate itself again; it is healing from the inside out, so the symptoms start to subside, like the inflammation,” Dr. Parker explains.

That said, acupuncture requires consistency and a well-rounded approach to see noticeable changes.

“Acupuncture doesn’t replace diet, exercise or medication—it enhances those things. It helps regulate the body so it can respond better to all those inputs,” Dr. Parker points out. “I always tell patients this is lifestyle medicine—acupuncture works best when it’s part of a bigger picture that includes sleep, nutrition, movement and stress management.”

I’m a firm believer in making healthy lifestyle adjustments in addition to trying out a method such as acupuncture. For me, that included eliminating processed foods and reducing sweets. I prioritized simple yet healthy homemade meals, complete with protein and vegetables. I even started to make my own freshly squeezed citrus juices in the morning and added deep belly breathing exercises to my routine to alleviate stress.

Thirty days into my self-designed treatment plan, I’m surprised that my inflammation seems to have decreased and my stomach doesn’t bother me every time I eat something. My collective efforts have totally improved my gut health.

So, will I be sticking with acupuncture? Absolutely.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion was a hit 1997 comedy film starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow. The story followed two friends who invented fake careers to impress their classmates at their high school reunion.

Kudrow recently honored Cumming in the Time’s list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2026. “Everything about him is thrilling,” she wrote. “And yet, there’s something about him that makes you feel like you can take a deep, calming breath whenever he’s near. He’s so fully himself—so free, so authentic—that simply being around him feels like a celebration. It’s really no wonder everyone is so drawn to him.”

When speaking about the tribute, Cumming told Us Weekly, “I didn’t know it was going to be her. … They don’t tell you. And so it was just such a lovely surprise. New photos of David Hasselhoff, posted by Page Six, are turning heads after the former Baywatch star was spotted during a rare public outing with his wife, Hayley Roberts. The 73-year-old actor was unrecognizable in the new images, prompting a wave of reactions across social media as longtime fans commented on his changed appearance and low-profile lifestyle in recent years.

Hasselhoff is best-known for his roles in television shows like Knight Rider and Baywatch. According to his IMDb page, he is still working, though he appears to be taking on selective projects. What Has Locklear Said About Finding Love Again?

Back in December, Locklear spoke candidly about her hopes to find love again in the near future.

Asked about her holiday wish for the season, Locklear shared a touching message that included wishes for health and happiness for her mother, daughter, and friends. But she also spoke about her optimistic perspective on finding love again after her two divorces.

“I pray about my family every night, and my mom especially, and my daughter being happy, and especially my dog staying alive,” Locklear shared. “But honestly, what I want is for God to direct me towards who I’m supposed to be with, because I can’t always make good decisions, and, um, that’s my immediate one.”

Directed by Roder Donaldson, Cocktail's storyline was written by Heywood Gould based on his book of the same name. The story appears simple: a business student becomes a bartender, travels to Jamaica, and falls in love. Cruise played the leading role of Brian Flanagan, a naive and shallow young man who returns to New York after being discharged from the Army.

His hopes of get-rich quick and landing a high-powered business job fail, and he becomes a bartender while attending business school. Two years later, Brian is in Jamaica as a bartender, and personal setbacks and betrayal force him to reassess his priorities, leading him to seek a more meaningful path in life and love.

Cocktail was a box office success, grossing over $171 million at the box office against its $20 million budget. The movie became the eighth highest-grossing film of 1988, but didn't sit well with critics. Rotten Tomatoes commented, "There are no surprises in Cocktail, a shallow, dramatically inert romance that squanders Tom Cruise's talents in what amounts to a naive barkeep's banal fantasy."

After criticism, Gould commented that he "was not happy with the final product" and was accused of having gone against his own work. Cruise also admitted to Cocktail not being a "crowning jewel" in his career. Despite their dislike for the film, fans tagged it a guilty pleasure, with one fan saying, it's "a classic 80’s film. Amazing music. Powerful acting performances. Gritty and realistic. Full of fun but also serious moments when needed."

Do Heat Protectant Sprays Actually Protect Your Hair?

The short answer is yes—but they're not magic shields. Cavalcante explains the mechanism simply: heat protectant creates a light barrier around the hair shaft that slows down how quickly heat penetrates the fiber. "So instead of the hair overheating and drying out, it's more controlled," he says, adding that most formulas help lock in moisture at the same time.

Reyman goes a layer deeper. He describes a good protectant as something that heats up before your hair does, absorbing thermal stress before it can reach the strand itself. "The protectant heats up first, shielding the hair's natural fatty layer and creating a barrier between high heat and the hair shaft," he explains.

Cooper agrees but wants to set realistic expectations: these are buffers, not impenetrable armor. What they do consistently is "reduce moisture loss and minimize damage"—and used religiously, that adds up to meaningfully healthier hair over time.

How To Use Heat Protectant Spray Correctly

Yes, and the long-term payoff is real. "It does both,” Cavalcante says. “It protects in the moment, but over time it really helps reduce breakage and split ends because the hair isn't constantly being stressed by heat."

Reyman is even more emphatic. "The moment you start consistently protecting your hair, the longevity of each strand increases exponentially," he says. "It's one of the highest-impact habits you can build."

How To Choose the Best Heat Protectant Spray for Your Hair Type

This is where a lot of people go wrong, and the right choice makes a major difference. Cavalcante's framework is clear: fine hair needs something lightweight; thicker or coarser hair can handle richer formulas; curly hair benefits from hydration and frizz control; and color-treated hair should always include UV protection alongside heat defense to preserve the color.

Cooper adds that using the wrong product can actually make things worse. "The wrong protectant can leave the hair greasy or not protected enough," she says, which is why reading the formula type (spray, serum, oil, cream) matters as much as the ingredient list.

Cabott takes a lifestyle-first approach to the question: "It's all up to what best suits you. If you love something quick and easy, I suggest a dry spray. It's not all that uncommon for country music stars to branch over into television, but there's one superstar who isn't really thinking about breaking into acting.

Luke Combs recently revealed that acting isn't his forte—at least, he doesn't think it is.

"If they just want me to play me, then great. I’m in," Combs told Us Weekly. "I don’t know if I’m a TV guy. I’ve got a face for radio. I’ve been lucky for that. But I don’t know. I just try to have time for my wife and my kids and not over commit myself to things that maybe I don’t feel like I’m great at. Or maybe I would be good at it."

While Combs may be in a "never say never" state of mind, he notes that he's got a lot on his plate. Aside from being on tour, he and his wife, Nicole, recently welcomed their third son.

"I just got so much going on with the music stuff. I want to give everything I have to that because I have such a big team and so many people that depend on me to make music and play shows and go out and do things for people. From employees to fans, I want to give everything I can to that," Combs told Us Weekly.

While Combs may not be ready to join a Taylor Sheridan series, it wouldn't be all that surprising if he did. Other country music stars, from Jelly Roll to Tim McGraw have been cast on television shows.

For now, however, Combs seems content with what he has going on.

Ralph Gunderman spent over a decade working as an announcer on Dateline NBC, the long-running investigation series that began in 1992 and continues until this day. He also contributed to comedy bits on the Late Show With David Letterman, providing the voice for phony commercials and announcements during the host’s monologues.

Gunderman was born in 1948 in Cleveland as the fourth of seven children. He worked in college radio at WRHA at the University of Akron, where he developed a love for performing. “While still in school, he landed a gig in summer 1969 as a deejay at WING in Dayton and then back in Akron at WCUE," The Hollywood Reporter explained. "After graduation in 1970, he moved on to television in Cleveland at WKBF and, as a booth announcer, WEWS.”

Gunderman moved to New York in 1981 where he started his voice-over work. He was featured in thousands of commercials and video games over his four-decade career. Some of the most popular games he was involved in were Bully, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Grand Theft Auto V. He retired in 2021, and enjoyed spending his free time doing crossword puzzles and singing cabaret.

His family also said, "He had hopelessly wished for a Cleveland baseball championship, since their last one had been the year he was born."

On March 1, Gunderman passed away at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York from complications to pneumonia. He was 77. He is survived by his second wife, Pamela, who he married in 2022, and his son, Benjamin. He also has siblings, Ann, Ruth, Colette, Clare, and Joseph.

For anyone interested in paying their respects to the iconic voice artist, The Hollywood Reporter also announced, “A celebration of his life is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation in White Plains, New York, with a second celebration to be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 at Olmsted Community Church in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.”

Donations in his memory can be made to WNYC Radio, the National Resources Defense Council, and Feeding Westchester, which provides fresh, healthy foods to households that are facing hunger.

Last year, Dancing with the Stars began the reveal process for the next season’s celebrity participants earlier than normal, by introducing one – Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy Winner Robert Irwin -- at the Hulu Get Real event. Nic Vansteenberghe finished in second place with Olandria Carthen on the 2025 Love Island (Season 7) and he recently told Glamourthat he’s got his sights set on his next reality TV series: Dancing with the Stars. In fact, he went so far as to say he’s “going to start training soon.”

What would make Nic an excellent choice is the fact that he has no previous dance training, so he would be someone we could root for from the get-go to watch improve from week to week.

“The thing about it is the progression would be insane. I would win most improved. I just want to dance,” Vansteenberghe said.

Despite the fact that Rosie O’Donnell has moved to Ireland, her name was one that has been fronted as a possibility for Season 35 of DWTS. But while the actress/comedienne might bring some laughs to the competition, it turns out she’s not interested and she issued a denial after this fictitious post began circulating.

On April 13, she posted on Instagram: "this made me laugh- reminds me to never get a perm !!! completely untrue but funny 😁"

Last season on Dancing with the Stars, Flavor Flav served as a guest judge for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night, and it was a memorable appearance because he made a scoring error on Alix Earle, giving her a 9 when he meant to give her a 10.

According to what the rapper told People, that error hasn’t stopped them from wanting him to return.
“They want me to come back and dance. I don’t know. I might do it if I think I could do it.”

But more seriously he told the magazine, “No, no, I don’t [think I could do it].”

In an exclusive interview with Parade,Ann-Margret revealed that she has been asked several times to compete on Dancing with the Stars, but it’s always been bad timing. As for Season 35, she says, “Oh, I have no idea,” adding, “I really am enjoying my time off.”

But she does enjoy watching the show as she identifies with both the celebrity and pro dancers: “I know all of the nerves that go through everybody when, all of a sudden, well, it’s your time to perform and [you think], ‘help!’ I go through the same emotions that they go through.”

The Traitors’ Season 3 winner Dylan Efron definitely made an impression last season on DWTS, so it’s no surprise that Season 4 winner Rob Rausch is rumored to join the cast this season.

A source told the US Sun, “Nothing is finalized but he’s been given the offer and there’s a spot on the cast that is his if he wants it.” Then added, “DWTS knows he’ll be a huge heartthrob of the season. That mixed with his charm and popularity will guarantee him a decent run on the show.”

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Cast

After the success of Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck in Season 34, the names of other cast members from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives are being bandied about, but no one for certain yet.

Several months before Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, the Pima County Sheriff's Department went through some significant changes. According to Fox New Digital, emails sent between a reality TV production company and the department reveal that the heads of various units—including homicide and cold case—had been rotated out.

"A June 18, 2025 email from show producer Amanda Riley shows she asked for the contacts of the sergeants running several units. In a reply two days later, Capt. Robert Koumal informed her that 'the department has experienced some rotational re-assignments since last year,' and revealed that the leader of every team she'd asked about had changed," the outlet reported on Saturday, April, 25.

Prior to the Guthrie case, the department had inked a deal with Twenty Twenty Productions to film a reality television series. Per the report, filming for the show finished before Guthrie, 84, went missing. Ten episodes of the show, titled Desert Law, began airing on A&E in January 2026—one month before Guthrie's disappearance.

Fox News Digital's report comes weeks after reports that the lead detective in the Guthrie case had "never" worked a homicide case. Sheriff Chris Nanos defended the lead detective in an interview with KVOA.

"This sergeant has been the supervisor of homicide for over two years," Nanos said. "And in that time he has solved some pretty significant, very high profile cases for this area—the Reddington homicide, the Goodwill homicide—and they solved that within days."

Authorities believe that Guthrie was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills in the middle of the night on Sunday, Feb. 1. Despite receiving thousands of tips, investigators have not been able to locate Guthrie. Additionally, authorities have not publicly named a suspect or suspects associated with the case.

Disney pulled the plug on Star Wars: The Acolyte in August 2024, one month after its eight-episode first season ended on a cliffhanger. The reason given was familiar. Namely, that the show's reported $230 million production cost didn't justify its viewership numbers.

It had arrived to strong critical reviews (an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes) but faced a vicious online campaign before a single episode aired. Lead star Amandla Stenberg, who played twin sisters Osha and Mae, described the harassment as a 'rampage of hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol.' Disney said nothing publicly in defense of its cast. The show was canceled, the conversation moved on, and that seemed to be that.

Then, this week, something unexpected happened.

As of April 22, The Acolyte re-entered Disney+'s Top 10 TV Shows chart in the United States, landing at number nine, according to tracking data from FlixPatrol. Two years after its cancellation, with no announcement or marketing push.

The timing might not be hard to explain. Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, the new animated series from Dave Filoni, has been dominating the platform since its April 6 premiere, sitting at number one on Disney+ both in the U.S. and globally. When one Star Wars title surges, viewers tend to browse for others. The Acolyte, which similarly explored the darker, Sith-centric corners of the galaxy, appears to be benefiting from that spillover.

But the return has reignited a conversation about the show's end. Fan communities on social media have responded with a mix of vindication and lingering frustration, with the hashtag #RenewTheAcolyte resurfacing on X. The sense among its supporters is that the show was caught in a perfect storm of high cost, an unfamiliar era of Star Wars history, and a coordinated backlash that distorted its actual reception. The show's first season drew 4.8 million views on its premiere day and 11.1 million in its first five days, making it Disney+'s biggest series launch of 2024. It was also, per Disney, the second-most-watched show on the platform for the entire year.

Set roughly a century before The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte follows a former Padawan and her Jedi Master investigating a series of crimes connected to the mysterious rise of the dark side. Its cast included Lee Jung-jae, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, and Dafne Keen. Jacinto has since said publicly he would love to return to the role. Disney has made no announcements about a revival, and Lucasfilm has clearly scaled back its streaming output, focusing instead on The Mandalorian and Grogutheatrical release this May.

For now, The Acolyte sits at number nine on a chart it was never supposed to return to. Whether that matters to anyone with a greenlight button remains to be seen.

Lena Dunham isn’t shying away from uncomfortable moments in her latest book—even when they paint other actors in a not-so-great light.

In a recent conversation on NPR's Wild Card with Rachel Martin, Dunham, 39, opened up about why she chose to include what she herself described as a "jarring" behind-the-scenes moment involving her former Girls co-star Adam Driver.

She also made it clear Driver, 42, was never trying to "hurt her" in the heated moment. Rather, Dunham explains it as the Father Mother Sister Brother actor "trying to get [her] attention."

The scene in question recalls a heated disagreement during their time working together, when Driver, frustrated, threw a chair against a wall Dunham was standing near. While she emphasized that he did not hit her, she acknowledged the intensity of the moment—and why it felt important to document it.

For Dunham, leaving the story out would have meant missing a deeper truth about their creative relationship.

"It was really important to me to make it clear… he did not hurt me," she said, while also explaining that the incident reflected just how much tension could build between two people trying to understand each other.

She described their dynamic as one shaped by stark differences. Driver, she noted, came from a vastly different background and approached work with a level of intensity and directness that contrasted with her own more nonconfrontational nature.

"We were almost like two different species circling each other," she said, reflecting on how often they misread one another's signals.

By including the moment, Dunham aimed to show not just conflict, but complexity—the reality that creative partnerships can be both deeply challenging and profoundly meaningful.

Importantly, she also shared that their story didn’t end in conflict. When Girls wrapped, the two shared an emotional goodbye, with Dunham apologizing for any misunderstandings and Driver offering a sense of peace about their journey.

For Dunham, the "jarring" moment ultimately serves a larger purpose: capturing the messy, human side of collaboration—and the growth that can come from it.

Martin Scorsese etched his name in the cinematic industry by delivering timeless classics, among which is the 1995 movie Casino.

Interestingly, 31 years after its release, the epic crime drama is finding new life with audiences, proving that great films never truly fade away.

Casino, which features a star-studded ensemble led by Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci, unexpectedly drew renewed attention after making it to Netflix’s 100 Best Movies list this April.

In a list shared by Rotten Tomatoes, the ranking is based on the movies with the highest scores on the Tomatometer or the website’s rating system.

While the top five movies include Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, The Perfect Neighbor, Godzilla Minus One, Under the Shadow and Secret Mall Apartment, the Scorsese-directed movie made it to No. 90.

Casino received a 93 percent Popcornmeter, which means the vast majority of regular viewers gave the film a positive rating, while the movie got a 79 percent Tomatometer, representing the number of professional critics that responded favorably.

Although it was overshadowed by the 1990 classic Goodfellas, movie critics described Casino as “one of Martin Scorsese’s crowning achievements” that showcased a “funny, brutal, chilling and engrossing film.”

The 1995 movie marked a reunion project between the award-winning director and Nicholas Pileggi, whose non-fiction book Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas inspired the movie. Moreover, the two had previously collaborated on the acclaimed crime classic Goodfellas.

In addition to the writer, Casino is also Scorsese’s eighth project with De Niro, with whom he has worked in Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, New York, New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas and Cape Fear.

Set in the 1970s and 1980s in Las Vegas, the movie depicts the rise and fall of the mob-controlled gambling empire called Tangiers Casino, run by the de facto boss Sam "Ace" Rothstein, portrayed by Robert De Niro.

Amid the glitz and high-stakes world of Las Vegas, the mob boss becomes entangled with Ginger McKenna, played by Stone. She embodies the emotional vulnerability of Ace Rothstein that he cannot manage with money or his power, ultimately becoming a dangerous distraction that contributes to the unraveling of his empire.

Casino earned Stone her first Golden Globe Award after winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama in 1996. This was also the movie’s only win during the ceremony.

The actress once mentioned in an interview that starring in Casino felt like the right role for her.

“I think for a long time people just did not know what to do with me,” she told The Guardian, adding that “I looked like a Barbie doll and then I had this voice like I spent my life in a bar, and I said things that were alarming and had ideas that didn’t make sense. And finally, I got together with Marty and Bob, and they were like, ‘Give it all to us, baby, just let her rip if you’ve got it, we want it, let’s see what you can do.’”

Meanwhile, Scorsese praised the actress and told The New York Times that “Stone attacks the role with a voracious energy; her performance has a terrifying emotional range, from the snarl to the whimper.”
