AXE was the name of the game during the coveted Y2K era, and the throwback grooming line is still alive and well today.

In fact, in this modern age where nostalgic content is forever trending, AXE decided to relaunch three of its iconic fragrances from back in the day as “remix” editions:

• Touch Body Spray (circa 2004)
• Anarchy Body Spray (circa 2012)

The company has been teasing its Y2K re-releases on social media this past week, with its latest Instagram reel going live on Monday, August 17. The purposely grainy clip shows a computer mouse icon clicking to open a desktop folder labeled “Y2K,” following by the icons of the three “remix” scents and a “COMING SOON” title card (although they’re available to order on Amazon right now).

Stoked fans left comments on Monday’s post, such as “RELEASE THE AXE FILES!!!!” and “Im excited.”

Last week, AXE’s official U.S. account also posted a clever reel to Instagram, where a human hand swipes a Kilo spray off a tabletop. A throwback cellphone also sits nearby, and on it reads the glowing message, “THE 2000S ARE CALLING.” The popular Instagram user @90skid4lyfe commented on the post, saying, “Let’s gooooo!”

After years of fans urging the brand to bring them back across social media, these cult-favorite scents that defined a generation are returning with new spray technology designed to deliver a lighter, more controlled application for today’s guy, according to AXE.

As Y2K fashion, music, and beauty trends continue to make a comeback, the collection gives longtime fans the chance to reconnect with some of AXE’s most recognizable fragrances while also introducing them to a new generation discovering the scents for the first time.

In August 1988, author Thomas Harris unleashed a novel that would later become the foundation for one of the greatest films ever made. The Silence of the Lambs was Harris’ second book in a four-book series dedicated to the man, the myth, the infamous meat eater Hannibal Lecter. 

A massive commercial and critical hit, the book became a bestseller upon its release and has since sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. It won prestigious genre awards at the time including the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel and the Anthony Award, and was credited with redefining the psychological thriller genre on the shelves. 

Three years later, Hollywood got hold of it.

Adapting the novel for the big screen for Orion Pictures, screenwriter Ted Tally focused on the taut psychological “quid pro quo” between FBI agent Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, and the brilliant forensic psychiatrist-turned-notorious cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins. 

Jonathan Demme, whose film repertoire at the time included Something Wild and Married to the Mob, directed the film, and with Tally’s script, his cast’s talent, and a selection of carefully chosen needle drops complementing Howard Shore’s orchestral score, he delivered a deeply human, highly empathetic psychological drama grounded in reality.

One of the music moments that gets the most attention comes early in the narrative and from one of rock and roll’s greatest voices, Tom Petty.

A masterclass in cinematic suspense, the scene captures the joyful mundanity of a victim and the calculating trap of a predator. As Catherine Martin, the unassuming daughter of a U.S. senator, drives down a highway at night, she rocks out to the sounds of Petty’s “American Girl” blasting from her car stereo. Drumming her hands on the steering wheel and singing along to the blissful lyrics, she is completely unbothered.

Make it last all night
She was an American girl

That is until she pulls up near her apartment, sees an injured man struggling to move furniture into a moving van, and decides to see if she can help. As she steps out into the damp night air, the music fades into the background, and she’s met with unspeakable horror. 

According to an interview with Brooke Smith, the actor who played Catherine, and The Huffington Post, Demme was choosing between two songs to soundtrack Catherine’s introduction: “American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus and Chaka Khan.

“Jonathan Demme, in his infinite wisdom, was the one who made the choice,” she said about going with “American Girl.” “It was almost too perfect. It just set it up absolutely 100 percent perfectly, that song.”

When it was first released in 1977, “American Girl” hardly made a peep. Following its big-screen cameo in Demme’s film, however, the song took on a new life. Granted, it had been previously featured in the films FM and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but The Silence of the Lambs took it to another level, and even caused it to land on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at No. 9. 

Even more, the film gave the ’70s rock classic an enduring pop culture identity. Smith even said that when people stop her, they say they can’t separate the song from her character. 

“People always tell me, ‘Every time I hear that song, I think of you,’” she said.

But the movie wasn’t done making its mark. The following year, The Silence of the Lambs made Oscar history, becoming just the third film ever to sweep the five major categories and the only horror film to win Best Picture. 

In the end, The Silence of the Lambs didn’t just make film awards history, rather it permanently changed the way a generation hears Petty’s “American Girl,” turning one of classic rock’s most joyous songs into one of the big screen’s most terrifying moments.

Lindsay Clancy‘s mother took the stand this week with new details about the weeks leading up to the deaths of her three grandchildren.

CNN reported on Monday, August 17 that Clancy’s mother Paula Musgrove and her other daughter, Allison Ozga, testified as the defense began laying out its case in the Massachusetts murder trial.

Both women emotionally described a rapid decline in Clancy’s mental state in the months before 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan were killed inside the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023.

According to CBS News’ live coverage of the testimony, Musgrove told jurors the change in her daughter began in October 2022. Jurors were shown a text message Clancy sent her mother that month.

“Mom, will you please come up and stay with me for a bit? I’m really sick. Something is wrong,” Clancy wrote. “I had horrible insomnia all night, and I just don’t know how I am going to get through the day. … It’s just really scary, and I don’t want to be alone.”

Musgrove said things grew far more serious by December, when her daughter admitted something more alarming. “She told us she had thoughts of harming the children,” Musgrove testified.

What Did Lindsay Clancy’s Sister Witness Before the Killings?

Ozga backed up her mother’s account according to the video shared by the news outlet, telling jurors that by late December, Clancy said she had been having suicidal thoughts every day for roughly a month. Musgrove added that Clancy had grown afraid to sleep alone and believed her prescribed medications “were destroying her mind.”

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, isn’t disputing that she killed her children. His case rests on the argument that she isn’t criminally responsible, pointing to postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder that he says were worsened by fragmented psychiatric care and overmedication, as reported by PBS.

What Have Prosecutors Told Jurors?

Prosecutors see it differently. They allege Clancy planned the killings, noting she sent her then-husband, Patrick, out for takeout and medication before the attack, according to The Guardian. They’ve also leaned on testimony from doctors who said they saw no signs of mania or psychosis, despite Clancy’s repeated reports of suicidal thoughts.

Clancy has not taken the stand. Jurors have watched her tear up at several points during the trial, particularly as evidence about her children’s deaths was shown.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Clancy faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. If jurors find she was not criminally responsible for her children’s murders, she would instead be committed to a Massachusetts state psychiatric hospital, where she has been held since her arrest.

As Nate Bargatze continues to travel the globe on his Big Dumb Eyes tour, the stand-up comedian has made history with a Guinness World Record.

Onstage at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Saturday, Bargatze was presented with the Guinness World Record for the most tickets sold on a stand-up comedy tour after selling approximately 2,016,254 tickets. He officially surpassed Jeff Dunham, whose Sparks of Insanity tour sold 1,981,720 tickets between 2007 and 2010.

While it took 35 months and 8 days spanning 386 venues for Dunham to earn the record, it took Bargatze only 16 months and 10 days across only 128 venues. And this isn’t the only record Bargatze has broken.

According to the comedian’s reps, Bargatze has broken 84 venue records, including being the only comedian to sell out three consecutive performances at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. “A feat matched only by Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks,” Bargatze’s publicists wrote.

Although Bargatze has become the highest-grossing stand-up comedian, making an astounding $77.5 million in 2025, his career hasn’t come without controversy. After photos surfaced of Bargatze attending President Donald Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 fight, the comedian became the subject of conversation between fans and celebrities alike. In a Substack essay, comedian W. Kamau Bell criticized Bargatze, saying, “Don’t be in a photo with fascists.”

“Nate Bargatze was by far the most shocking and disappointing attendee for me. One of my favorite comedians and a genuinely decent guy. Dude should have known how bad it would look,” one fan wrote on Threads at the time.

Another clapped back, saying, “Nate Bargatze can support Trump. Nate Bargatze can attend Trump’s White House UFC party. Nate Bargatze can pose for photos with political figures.”

The phrase “You always hurt the ones you love” usually applies to emotional heartbreak, but Matchbook Twenty drummer and rhythm guitarist Paul Doucette just learned it can apply to physical blunt-force trauma, too.

During a recent Matchbox Twenty concert, frontman Rob Thomas was aggressively spinning a microphone stand in the air when he accidentally struck Doucette directly in the head. On August 16, Doucette took to Instagram to share an expletive-laden recount of the painful, surreal moment caused by his longtime friend and bandmate.

“Rob [Thomas] took me the f–k out with his swinging the f—–g mic stand during that show,” Doucette said. “And I have bits of my in-ear [monitor], which he f—–g smashed in my ear, that are now in my ear.” While he explained to the camera what happened, someone had tweezers in his ear, trying to pull the IEM pieces out.

The following day, Thomas reposted a spliced video of the night in question along with Doucette’s post. Fans can clearly see Thomas obliviously smash Doucette in the side of the head with the stand. The caption read: “After 30 years of mic swinging, Rob claimed his first victim: [Paul Doucette] of course.”

An audience member got even more video of the incident, including Doucette walking off stage holding his ear, and Thomas addressing what happened.

“My best friend in the world, and I think I almost killed him, and I feel really bad about this,” he said.

Thomas and Doucette have been friends for decades, first meeting when Doucette answered an ad for a drummer. The band was Tabitha Secret, which Thomas fronted.

“Rob and I definitely hit it off immediately from night one,” Doucette told the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2023. “He was like, you’re 21, I just turned 21. Let’s go to a bar. We went to this all-night after-hours bar, and he convinced these people that I was the kickboxing champion of Pittsburgh. This guy wanted to kick my a–, and I was like, I just met this guy. We had quite an adventurous night.”

Despite the literal head-shaking mishap, Doucette took the accidental hit with the same resilient sense of humor that has kept their friendship intact since that wild first night in a bar. It’ll take a lot more than a flying microphone stand to break this bond.

A recall notice has been issued for over 3,000 ready-to-heat soup kits that were sold at Walmart locations in 29 states across the country due to concerns that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

According to a recall notice published by the United States Food and Drug Administration on August 13, Kettle Cuisine LLC of Savage, Maryland has recalled 3,240 packs of its Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit. The affected products were distributed from June 30 through July 7 to select Walmart stores in the following states:

Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The 14-ounce recalled product is packaged in a wrapped tray, marked with UPC 194346474004, and has a best-by date of August 22, 2026. Consumers are urged to “not eat, serve, sell, or distribute the recalled product,” with the recall notice asking consumers to “dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund,” noting that consumers should “not rely on smell or appearance to determine whether the product is safe.”

The recall notice also states that, “to date, the company has received no confirmed reports of illnesses associated with this product,” but “urges customers to wash hands after handling the product. Clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, containers, utensils, countertops, and other surfaces that may have encounter the product.”

The Black Queen, the rock supergroup, has announced its final show for 2026 amid its anniversary tour.

Following multiple U.S. legs and international dates, the band, fronted by vocalist Greg Puciato on lead vocals, Joshua Eustis, Chris Pennie and Steven Alexander Ryan, with touring member Danny Lohner, has added one more run for the Fever Daydream 10 Year Anniversary Tour.

In an Instagram update, The Black Queen announced an expanded international run, including a show in Dublin, Ireland, marking their first-ever performance in the city.

Scheduled for Dec. 18, the performance will mark their “last show of the year.”

The 2026 tour celebrates the 10th anniversary of their debut studio album, Fever Daydream, released on January 29, 2016, featuring songs including “Secret Scream,” “Ice to Never,” “The End Where We Start” and “That Death Cannot Touch.”

The Black Queen started the tour in May with its first U.S. leg, a 14-date run covering major cities in Oregon, Colorado, California, New York, Ohio and more before concluding in Texas in June.

Following this, the band is gearing up for the second U.S. leg, kicking off on Sept. 9 in California and wrapping up the fall tour in October.

As mentioned, the band added an international run, hitting Australia for festival dates in December, followed by a series of shows in the U.K. before ending with the final show in Ireland.

It was one of the biggest singles in the year 1990, but Sinéad O’Connor‘s smash hit “Nothing Compares 2 U” originally came from the mind of the one and only, Prince.

Prince wrote the “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1984, recording the original demo version in July of that year. He first wrote the song for his side project and band, The Family, who included the track on their self-titled debut album in 1985 — but it wasn’t for another five years that the song would soar to entirely new heights, thanks to O’Connor.

O’Connor released her version of the haunting pop single in January 1990, later featuring it on her second studio album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got. It was her version that turned “Nothing Compares 2 U” into a massive global hit, with the song soaring to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1990.

It spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1, not only becoming the most successful song of O’Connor’s entire career, but also one of the biggest singles of the entire year. It was the No. 3 top song of 1990, behind “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips and “It Must Have Been Love” by Roxette.

O’Connor’s version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” has gone down in history as one of the most enduring ’90s songs of all time. It’s included on Rolling Stone‘s ranking of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, placing on the list at No. 184.

At the MTV Music Video Awards in 1990, O’Connor became the first woman to ever win Video of the Year, and at the inaugural Billboard Music Awards in December 1990, “Nothing Compares 2 U” won for No. 1 World Single.

The Jonas Brothers are bringing the Burning Up Tour All Over Again to fans across North America this fall.

Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas announced Monday that their celebration of the band’s iconic Burning Up Tour will expand into a 45-city North American tour in response to the overwhelming demand for their sold-out Madison Square Garden shows.

The new tour kicks off Sept. 25 in Boston and will make stops in cities including Toronto, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle and Denver before wrapping up Dec. 21 in Newark, New Jersey.

Magnus Ferrell, Franklin Jonas and All Time Low will join the Jonas Brothers as special guests on select dates.

The tour announcement comes during a major week for the band. The Jonas Brothers were recently inducted as Disney Legends at D23, one of The Walt Disney Company’s highest honors.

Their induction came just as Camp Rock 3 premiered on Disney Channel before its Disney+ debut, nearly two decades after the original Camp Rock helped launch the band’s Disney-era fame.

The group was also recently announced as the halftime performers for the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia.

When Do Jonas Brothers Tour Tickets Go on Sale?

Tickets will be available through a Spotify Reserved presale beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 8:28 a.m. local time for eligible Spotify Premium fans.

Additional presales will follow throughout the week, with tickets going on sale to the general public Friday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. local time through Ticketmaster.

The Jonas Brothers are also offering VIP packages that can include premium tickets, access to a pre-show Burnin’ Up VIP Lounge and exclusive merchandise.

For fans who missed the original Burning Up era, the new tour offers another chance to relive it, this time across North America.

Throughout the 1980s, Prince put out a plethora of hits, cementing himself as a generational talent. Despite being over 40 years old, one of Prince’s most beloved songs, “Let’s Go Crazy” by his band Prince & the Revolution, was recently recognized by the publication Entertainment Weekly for its impact in the rock genre.

The 1984 track, written by Prince, was included in Entertainment Weekly‘s list, titled “the 25 greatest rock songs of all time.” Some of the other tunes featured on the list, published in July 2026, were “All Day and All of the Night” by The Kinks from 1964, 1963’s “Be My Baby” by The Ronettes, and The Ramones‘ 1976 song, “Blitzkrieg Bop.”

“Let’s Go Crazy,” off Purple Rain, secured the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 spot in September 1984, just three months after the album was released.

Prince, who died in 2016 at the age of 57, mentioned his original draft of “Let’s Go Crazy” in a 1997 interview with Musician magazine. While speaking to Musician, he said that he felt more freedom recording his 1996 album, Emancipation, after his contract with Warner Bros. ended. Prince stated that he didn’t have to think about appeasing the masses like he did with his previous albums.

“Well, when you’re in the creative process, the first thing you naturally think about is the ‘bombs,’ the great ones that you’ve done before. You want to fill in the slots on your album with the songs that will make everyone the happiest: fans, musicians, writers, and so on. I used to try to fill those gaps first whenever I was trying something new, or wait to challenge myself to do another great one. This means that you think about singles: time constraints, for example, and the subject matter,” said Prince during the interview.

According to Prince, he had to change the original lyrics of “Let’s Go Crazy,” so it could be marketable.

“[For that reason] my original draft of ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ was much different from the version that wound up being released. As I wrote it, ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ was about God and the de-elevation of sin. But the problem was that religion as a subject is taboo in pop music. People think that the records they release have got to be hip, but what I need to do is to tell the truth,” said Prince, who attended Seventh Day Adventist services in his childhood and eventually became a Jehovah’s Witness in his 40s, per Billboard.

Hayden Panettiere and Brian Hickerson kept their rekindled romance quiet in order to protect her career, with the couple not breaking up as many times as the public was led to believe, TMZ reports.

A source close to Hickerson told the outlet that the two were together while she was promoting her new memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” but he stayed out of the spotlight with her as her camp felt is was “bad for business.”

“We’re told their complicated history was perceived as being bad for book sales — but they were still in constant communication during the promotional tour,” the outlet writes. “We’re also told Hayden basically became a member of the Hickerson family in recent years … especially in light of the fact that she didn’t have a close relationship with her own family.”

Another source added that the two had been dating for years and that any reports that detailed them breaking up were false and were released to help her career. The two were spotted together in Los Angeles and South Carolina at different times this past year.

Much of their turbulent relationship had to do with domestic violence allegations and arrests. Hickerson was sentenced to 45 days in jail back in 2021 after he was arrested on multiple felony charges, including four charges of corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, and one charge of intimidating a witness, Panettiere. He also faced a misdemeanor charge of battery on a spouse/cohabitant.

Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon in an Airbnb in Greenville, South Carolina, with first responders arriving at the residence at 1:50 PM to help a woman who was in cardiac arrest, attempting life-saving measures, including CPR. She was pronounced dead at 2:32 PM.

One day following her death, on Monday, August 17, Hickerson’s Instagram profile was deleted, but the account had been inactive for years. Two ambulances were also spotted at the residence, leading to questions about whether two people were tended to by first responders.

Having a child open up to you about their day at school is a wonderful thing—not only does it inform you how things are going for your child or grandchild, but it also shows that they trust you and feels comfortable sharing with you.

That said, if you find it difficult to connect with your kids at the end of the day, it may be because of the questions you’re asking.

According to child psychologists, some questions are much more effective than others in getting kids to open up. In fact, there’s one question that child psychologists wish parents, grandparents and caregivers would avoid asking their kids at the end of the day—and it’s a question you’re probably guilty of asking all the time.

To learn more, we spoke with Dr. Carolyn Spiro, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist working with children, teens and adults in private practice in New York, and Dr. Elizabeth Solomon Loyola, PsyD, a licensed psychologist and the founder and owner of the Child Psychology Center in California.

Child Psychologists Suggest Parents and Grandparents Stop Asking Kids This Question

The question that Dr. Spiro and Dr. Loyola think caregivers should stop asking children is a simple one: “How was your day?”

What’s wrong with asking kids ‘How was your day?’

“While there is nothing inherently wrong or ‘bad’ about asking ‘How was your day?’, most parents and grandparents would probably agree that this question is not very effective at getting kids to talk,” Dr. Spiro tells Parade.

“‘How was your day?’ often leads to one-word or short responses, with kids answering along the lines of ‘good’ or ‘fine’ or ‘I don’t know,'” she continues. “If the goal is to get our kids to share more, there are more effective strategies parents/grandparents can use.”

Dr. Loyola feels similarly, explaining that children, especially young children, “don’t really know how to answer it or what information to share. Oftentimes, they just say ‘good’ or ‘I don’t know’ as a result, and then parents or grandparents don’t actually hear much about what’s going on.”

Ask Kids These 3 Questions Instead of ‘How Was Your Day?’

1. “What was a highlight and lowlight from your day?”

“Some kids respond better to more open questions that offer a bit of guidance,” explains Dr. Loyola. “This helps them think about something that went well and something that was difficult. While it’s not overly specific, it’s still more specific than ‘How was your day?’ and is more likely to produce a response.”

She adds that alternatives to the highlight/lowlight phrasing could be: a rose and a thorn, the best and the worst part of your day, a good and not-so-good thing about your day, etc.

2. “Who did you play with today?” or “What did you play?”

“Questions like this help give caregivers a picture of a child’s social life at school,” Dr. Loyola shares. “Understanding who your child is friends with and what they do together can be so helpful. If they respond by saying they played with no one several times, that could be worth following up with the teacher about.”

3. “What was something you learned today?”

Dr. Loyola suggests asking kids to share something they learned today, and then following it up by asking if they found it interesting or challenging to learn about.

“This helps the caregiver gain insight into what the child is learning about and how the experience of learning is for them,” she says. “If you have a child who doesn’t want to talk about these things, you can be more specific and ask about whether they went to the library, did they have PE, etc. This can also be helpful in allowing you to follow up on things they’re learning about.”

4 Expert-Backed Tips for Encouraging Your Kids To Open Up

1. Figure out the best timing for your kid

“Timing is so important!” says Dr. Spiro.

“When your child first gets home from school or camp, he or she may be tired, hungry or cranky from a long day,” she explains. “Kids have so many demands placed on them at school that being asked a question as soon as they walk through the door can feel overwhelming. Most kids benefit from having some time to decompress when they get home. After they have had some time to rest and had a snack, they will be in a better position to share.”

Dr. Loyola agrees, suggesting you “try to ask about their day at different times. Some children are most eager to tell you about things right at pickup while others need time to unwind and can then share about it at dinner. Paying attention to your child’s cues [is] huge in figuring out ways to help them open up.”

2. Try to connect with your kids during playtime

“It can also be helpful to take some time to reconnect and have fun with your child after a long day of school,” advises Dr. Spiro. “For example, join in with them while they are building with LEGOs, or sit next to them at the table while they are drawing and start drawing too. Kids tend to feel more comfortable talking during play, as the context allows for more natural and spontaneous communication.”

3. Validate your kids when they share with you

“Responding to your child’s responses with validation… can also help them to feel safe and understood, which may lead to them sharing more,” says Dr. Spiro.

Validating responses communicate back to them what they might be feeling, such as, “I can see why that felt hard.”

4. Share something about your own day

“It can also be helpful for parents/grandparents to model sharing about their own days—both the good and the hard parts,” Dr. Spiro notes.

“A parent may say something like, ‘I was so frustrated today when I got stuck in traffic and was late to work. I wonder if anything happened at school that made you feel frustrated today?'” she explains. “This can encourage kids to share their own experiences, and models how they can effectively identify and express their own emotions.”

Hayden Panettiere wasn’t on this planet for long, but her onscreen legacy will be here forever.

The pint-sized blonde, who died on Aug. 16, 2026, just days shy of her 37th birthday, first got her start as a child star. While she was incredibly gifted, she admitted it’s not necessarily a job she would have chosen for herself, with her mother Lesley Vogel pushing her to work when she was single-digit aged.

“Everything was business,” Panettiere recalled on On Purpose With Jay Shetty. “I became the confidant and the assistant and the therapist and the shoulder to cry on and everything [to Vogel] but her child.”

Panettiere soared into global superstardom with Heroes, and the hit NBC sci-fi series became a launchpad for other areas of her career, including movies and music. She followed with a prescient and heartbreaking role in Nashville and was enjoying a renaissance in her career when she passed.

Hayden Panettiere’s Movies and TV Shows, Ranked 15. Raising Helen (2004) Hayden Panettiere and Kate Hudson in Raising Helen (2004)

Raising Helen was a star vehicle for Kate Hudson, then riding a wave of romcom success. Panettiere delivered a solid performance in an otherwise meh film from Garry Marshall. Why is it ranked last? Because upon re-viewing, it’s unsettling: Panettiere, then 13, played a 15-year-old girl, and her first make out session of her life was with her 20-something co-star Michael Esparza.

“Can you believe I was 13 in that movie? At certain points, they had me dressed up like you would’ve thought [I was way older],” she recalled to Entertainment Weekly in May 2026. “I look back at pictures, people tell me how young I look now, but it’s crazy because when I was 13, I almost looked like I was a teenager—the tummy out, the smoky eyes.”

She added, “My mom [was] watching me with a 20-something-year-old guy while I was 13. I was shocked that he used his tongue! I couldn’t believe it, and I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it,. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s how it’s done. Got it.’ I’ve got a lot of very great memories, funny memories from that, for sure.”

We’re not sure we’d consider that great or funny, and the adults in the room should have done better by her.

14. One Life to Live (1994-1997) Tyler Noyes, John Loprieno and Hayden Panettiere in “One Life to Live”

Panettiere appeared in 27 episodes of the soap opera One Life to Live, her first big break. Most of her work entailed just showing up and looking precious, and frankly, she did a pretty great job at it. However, it’s hard not to watch her scenes through a darker lens in retrospect, because Panettiere said she was “groomed into” becoming a child star.

Explaining why she always had difficulty saying no, she told the Hollywood Reporter in May 2026, “I think it’s the way I was raised. I was groomed. I was like a little soldier and I always have been. No was never an option. It was just, ‘Here are your scenes, here’s your dialogue, memorize it, hit the marks, do what your director tells you to do.’ I took my marching orders.”

13. Ally McBeal (2002) Hayden Panettiere as Madison “Maddie” Harrington in “Ally McBeal”

Panettiere starred as Amanda Knox in the Lifetime Original Movie Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy (2011). The role of the awkward American exchange student falsely imprisoned for her roommate’s murder in Italy wouldn’t an easy one to play for a less experience actor … but we’re guessing that Panettiere’s own experiences with a ruthless media may have made this one a walk in the park for her.

10. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 6, Episode 15, “Hooked” (2005) Hayden Panettiere, Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni in “Law & Order: SVU”

Panettiere appeared in Law & Order: SVU twice as two different characters. In her second appearance, she stars as Angela Agnelli in “Hooked,” in which her schoolgirl appearance belies a much darker side.

Panettiere’s fan-favorite character Kirby (more on her later!) returned in Scream VI (2023). She told Vanity Fair of her comeback, “It felt like coming home. I did this not just for me, but for the fans as well. I felt so much love, to the point where I was calling [the filmmakers] up, like, ‘I think Kirby might still be alive, and I think she can come in handy, so if there’s a place where you can slip me in, please do!’ And that they did. People go through trauma, and you either run, you hide, you’re scared of your own shadow, or you come out fighting. And Kirby came out fighting, which I love about her.”

7. Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006) Hayden Panettiere and Solange Knowles in “Bring It On: All or Nothing”

Is Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006) a really good movie in terms of like, snobby classic cinema? No. The film, which co-stars Solange Knowles, was never going to be Citizen Kane, and guess what? Not everything has to be. It’s fun. It doesn’t need to be much else.

6. Remember the Titans (2000) Hayden Panettiere and Denzel Washington in “Remember the Titans”

Despite sharing the screen with the Denzel Washington, Panettiere was one of the most memorable parts of Remember the Titans, starring as the pigskin-loving, stereotype-shattering Sheryl Yoast in the Disney football classic.

Panettiere guest-starred in just a few episodes of Malcolm in the Middle, but boy, was she hilarious as the diabolically cunning Jessica (a role that, frankly, sounds familiar to me). As Malcolm’s frenemy and sometimes crush, Panettiere got to chew scenery and rock glasses and frizzy hair, turning the “cute blonde” TV trope on its head.

Panettiere credits star Bryan Cranston, who was directing her first episode, with her getting the part, because he knew her mother—they’d co-starred in the classic soap opera Loving.

“I remember the whole audition process … That is my true belief, because he was an actor. He looked at me and said, ‘You’re so wrong for this. But we’re going to make it work,’ ” she recalled. “That was the first time I had ever experienced someone really taking a chance on me.”

Panettiere was amazing as Juliette Barnes in Nashville, but tragically, the role was “traumatic” for her, she revealed, because it mined so much from the struggles she was dealing with off-screen.

“Straight from the beginning, it was like, I’m dating a football player, [and then] Juliette dates a football player,” she told the Messenger. “And then they turned her into an alcoholic. Then they turned to her leaving her daughter and going to this crazy [place] in Europe, and it was very obvious. They weren’t doing their homework. They weren’t creating new storylines. They were just looking at my life and going, ‘Oh, let’s just take what she’s going through and put our little spin on it.’ And then, ta-da! It’s done and done.”

Panettiere’s first appearance on Law & Order: SVU was in the episode “Abuse,” and it pulls at the heartstrings in a big way. Starring as Ashley Austin Black, the daughter of two famous singers, Panettiere delivers a powerful performance that almost hurts to watch because the pain in her eyes seems almost too real. Couldn’t someone have just let this girl be normal and play kids her own age away from cameras?

Heroes made Panettiere a household name, and her role as Claire Bennet is the one for which she’ll likely be most remembered. She looked back fondly on the NBC series.

“I grew up on that set, and I was so lucky to have those people around me,” she told BuzzFeed in May 2026. “Outside of work, I was dealing with paparazzi for the first time and my freedom being taken away, basically overnight. The cast of Heroes really kept me grounded at a very pivotal time in my life. I’m not saying I didn’t do some bad things—I definitely was a rebel—but they saved me from getting sucked into all sorts of trouble.”

“I loved Claire, being on the Sunset Gower stages, the sets that they would create, and getting to do stunts,” she added. “It was like a dream come true for me. It was just the best environment. Bryan Adams gave fans in Detroit an unexpected rock-star moment when he brought Pat Benatar and her husband, guitarist Neil Giraldo, onstage for a surprise performance of a Stevie Wonder classic.

The collaboration happened Saturday, Aug. 15, during 66-year-old Adams’ concert at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Adams invited Benatar, 73, and Giraldo, 70, to join him onstage, marking the first time the pair had performed with him during their time touring together.

The three musicians launched into 76-year-old Wonder’s “Superstition,” with Adams telling the crowd that they wanted to do something special because they were performing in “Motown City.“

The surprise appearance was particularly fitting given Detroit’s deep connection to Wonder and Motown music.

Adams has been touring with Benatar and Giraldo, but he hadn’t previously brought the longtime rock collaborators onto the stage during the run.

“We’ve never had them on stage before until tonight,” Adams told the audience.

The performance came near the end of the tour, which wrapped up Aug. 16 in Milwaukee. Adams will continue with a series of Canadian headlining dates through September, while Benatar and Giraldo also have additional performances ahead.

The Detroit performance gave fans an especially memorable combination: three major rock artists tackling one of Wonder’s most recognizable songs in the city where Motown history was made.

Video of the performance has since circulated online, giving fans who weren’t in the arena a chance to see the unexpected collaboration.

The freezing process changes the texture, which means knowing where and when frozen broccoli works best can make the difference between a dish that feels like a compromise and one where you’d never know it came from the freezer.

So, we decided to ask the people who would know best for the best way to use frozen broccoli. We turned to three culinary pros: Christine Pittman, founder and CEO of COOKtheSTORY; Christina Musgrave, founder of Tasting with Tina and a professional recipe developer; and Rachel Farnsworth, founder and creative director of The Stay at Home Chef to find out what they look for when buying frozen broccoli and, more importantly, the best thing to make with it.

They had plenty of thoughts, from weeknight shortcuts to uses we never would have considered. But when it came to the best way to put a bag of frozen broccoli to work, all three pointed us in the same direction. Here’s what these chefs love to make with frozen broccoli.

What To Look for When Buying Frozen Broccoli

Before you toss a bag of frozen broccoli in your cart, give it a little shake or a gentle squeeze first.

Pittman recommends choosing broccoli florets rather than packages labeled “cut or chopped broccoli.” While she loves using the stems when working with fresh broccoli, she finds that frozen stems tend to be more watery, making florets the better option.

She also recommends checking the condition of the broccoli inside the bag. The pieces should move around rather than be frozen together in one solid block. If the packaging allows you to see inside, look for broccoli that’s vibrant green without excessive ice crystals.

Musgrave uses a similar trick at the grocery store. “When I buy frozen broccoli, I like to try to feel individual broccoli florets,” she says. “If it’s one big chunk of ice or florets are all clumped together, it’s one extra step of more chopping in the finished dish.”

She prefers bags with separated, smaller florets, which she says can help improve the texture of the finished dish.

Farnsworth is also a fan of the squeeze test, but she’s checking for something slightly different.

“You can usually feel whether it’s mostly nice, chunky florets or packed with thick stems,” she says. Although she doesn’t mind broccoli stems, Farnsworth says she’ll reach for the bag containing more florets.

In other words, don’t just grab the first frozen green bag you see. A few seconds of detective work in the freezer aisle can save you from bringing home a broccoli iceberg or bag of stems.

The Best Thing To Make With Frozen Broccoli, According to 3 Chefs

So, what did all three of our experts suggest?

Soup. More specifically, two immediately pointed us toward one of broccoli’s greatest comfort-food partners: cheddar cheese.

Pittman says frozen broccoli is particularly well suited to recipes where you actually want the broccoli to become soft. Freezing affects the vegetable’s texture, so you aren’t going to get the same tender-crisp bite you’d expect from fresh broccoli. But put it into a dish where soft broccoli is the goal, and that supposed disadvantage suddenly starts working in your favor.

Her prime example is broccoli cheddar soup. Pittman uses frozen broccoli in her copycat version of Panera’s legendary soup because the goal is cooking the broccoli until it becomes tender and breaks apart into the soup.

Farnsworth independently landed on the same comfort-food classic. “Broccoli cheddar soup is probably my favorite because the broccoli gets nice and tender anyway, and nobody would ever know you started with frozen,” she says.

Musgrave also names soup, along with pasta dishes, as one of her favorite uses for frozen broccoli. She recommends microwaving the broccoli first, draining any excess water and then adding it to the finished dish.

And that’s really the trick to making frozen broccoli work: Stop asking it to behave exactly like fresh broccoli. In recipes where a crisp texture isn’t important, its softer texture can actually be an advantage. Plus, it’s already washed and trimmed, and there’s no pressure to use it before it starts turning yellow or flowering in the refrigerator.

Suddenly, an emergency bag hiding in the freezer feels like a pretty good dinner strategy.

5 More Genius Ways To Use Frozen Broccoli

Soup may have been the one idea all three experts had in common, but it was hardly the only thing they recommended. Once you stop treating frozen broccoli exclusively as a microwavable side dish, there are plenty of ways to put it to work. Here are five more ways these chefs love to use frozen broccoli.

1. Roast it straight from the freezer.

Yes, you can roast frozen broccoli—and Pittman says you don’t even need to thaw it first. Her method is all about serious heat. She tosses the frozen florets with olive oil and salt, spreads them out on a sheet pan, and roasts them in a preheated oven at a scorching 450°F to 500°F.

The finished broccoli will be softer than roasted fresh broccoli, but according to Pittman, it still turns out “really, really good.”

Her finishing move might be even better: Toss the roasted broccoli with a little Caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese for what she describes as a steakhouse-style side dish.

Farnsworth is also a fan of roasting broccoli directly from frozen. She recommends spreading it over a sheet pan, adding olive oil, salt and pepper, and roasting at 425°F. Her biggest piece of advice is not to overcrowd the pan, which helps the broccoli develop those browned, caramelized edges instead of simply steaming.

2. Upgrade your mac and cheese.

This may be the easiest broccoli trick of the bunch.

Musgrave adds frozen broccoli directly to the pot while making either homemade or boxed mac and cheese. Toss the broccoli into the boiling macaroni during the final two minutes of cooking, then drain everything together and finish preparing the mac and cheese according to the package directions.

Just like that, you’ve turned a box of mac and cheese into broccoli cheddar mac without dirtying another pan.

Musgrave says she does this all the time for her toddler, and frankly, we’re filing this one away for the next night when making a decent dinner feels like it will be an accomplishment in itself.

3. Sneak it into spaghetti sauce.

If there’s a bag of frozen broccoli lingering in your freezer, Pittman has an unexpected way to make it disappear.

She suggests putting the frozen broccoli into a food processor or blender and pulsing it until it resembles riced broccoli. From there, you can stir it into foods where you want to work in some additional vegetables without making broccoli the centerpiece of the meal.

One place she uses it is weeknight spaghetti sauce, much as she would use frozen riced cauliflower. If you have a discerningly picky eater at home, try blending the broccoli into a small amount of sauce before adding it to the remainder. It may darken it a bit, but all the vegetable’s nutritional bits will remain hidden from watchful eyes.

4. Make broccoli pesto.

Pittman also likes using broccoli to put a spin on pesto. Her version combines broccoli with basil, allowing you to keep that recognizable fresh basil flavor while using less of it, and incorporating broccoli into the sauce.

Better yet, you can freeze the finished broccoli pesto in ice cube trays just as you would traditional pesto. Pop out a cube when you need it, and you have an easy addition for pasta and other weeknight meals.

5. Put it on pizza.

Frozen broccoli can even earn a spot on pizza night.

For this one, Pittman recommends thawing the broccoli before adding it to homemade pizza. Because pizza already cooks at a high temperature, the broccoli gets another opportunity to pick up some browning as the pie cooks.

And if pizza isn’t on the menu, Farnsworth says frozen broccoli can work in everything from casseroles and pasta to fried rice, quiche and sheet-pan dinners.
