Is RuPaul's Drag Race renewed for Season 19?

While a formal announcment of Drag Race Season 19 has not been made my MTV, World of Wonder (the production company behind the show, as well as all of its international spinoffs), did officially open casting on October 1, 2025. And, given the monumental success of the show, it would be a shocking elimination from the airing schedule (much like Jane Don't's elimination).

When will RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19 premiere?

Drag Race will most likely premiere Season 19 in January 2027. The series has kicked off in the first week of the new year annually since Season 13 in 2021.

How to watch RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19

Season 19 of RuPaul's Drag Race will air yet again air on MTV. If you're a cord-cutter, you'll unfortunately have to wait until after the season airs in full for it to drop on Paramount+.

What is the prize on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19?

The winner of Season 17 took home a cash prize of $200,000 sponsored by TodayTix, as well as the title of "America's Next Drag Superstar. The winner of Season 19 will likely earn a similar prize.

How long will episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19 be?

Episodes will be 90 minutes long. After the Season 15 debacle where MTV shortened Drag Race episodes down to an hour at the beginning of the season to make room for The Real Friends of WeHo, they course-corrected back to 90-minute episodes later in the season. Now the show is back to the usual 90-minute episode followed by 30 minutes of Untucked format. 

Will RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19 air on Paramount+?

Not likely. At least not initially. While the All Stars version of the show premieres on Paramount+, the regular franchise airs on MTV and won't arrive on Paramount+ to stream until sometime after the full season has finished airing. 

Will RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18 air on Hulu?

No. While Drag Race used to have a deal with Hulu, no new seasons of the show have gone onto the streamer in a few years, as they now stream on Paramount+ instead.

Will RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19 air on MTV?

Yes! The last few seasons of the franchise have aired on MTV, and that seems like its new permanent home, now that it's moved on from VH1.

Will RuPaul's Drag Race Season 19 air on VH1?

No. While seasons of Drag Race previously aired on VH1, they no longer air there and so it would be odd for All Stars to air now.

But Holland America Line just dropped some news that suggests the industry is finally waking up to the fact that going it alone shouldn't mean staying in a closet.

As part of a massive new fleet-wide project called Holland America Evolution, the line is rolling out a "bow-to-stern" reimagining of six of its most popular ships. While the $500 million investment covers everything from new dining spots to refreshed public spaces, the real headline for solo adventurers is the introduction of Solo Verandah staterooms.

Starting with the Oosterdam in Fall 2027, the ship is adding 30 purpose-built cabins designed specifically for one person. But here is the kicker—unlike the cramped solo cabins of the past, these are actually spacious at 200 square feet and come with their own private balconies.

It is a massive shift for a ship that currently has zero dedicated solo inventory. It means you can finally have that classic "coffee on the balcony in your robe" moment without having to pay double the price for a room built for two.

"Our guests have been very clear about what they love about our ships and what they want to see more of, and Holland America Evolution is our answer to that,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president, Holland America Line. "This investment allows us to introduce experiences and venues that are new to the fleet, add Pinnacle Class favorites like Grand Dutch Café, and create new stateroom categories designed for the way people travel today, all while preserving the perfectly sized ship experience that defines Holland America.”

The design is clearly leaning into the "work from anywhere" lifestyle, too. Each room features a dedicated workspace and a modern, glass-walled shower, proving that "solo" doesn't have to mean "basic."

Beyond the new staterooms, as mentioned above, the Grand Dutch Café is finally making its debut on the Oosterdam, and if you’re a solo traveler, this is probably where you’ll spend half your trip. Previously a perk reserved only for the newer Pinnacle Class ships, this spot is essentially the social anchor of the vessel.

It’s styled like a classic European street café, making it the ultimate "introvert-friendly" social hub. You can snag a window seat for some prime people-watching, order a Dutch pea soup or a specialty coffee, and feel perfectly comfortable lingering with a book or a laptop. It lacks the formality of the main dining room, offering an easygoing, all-day spot to grab a snack or a local craft beer without the pressure of a timed reservation.

This move is part of a larger trend as Holland America reports a steady climb in single passengers every year. By adding 76 total new staterooms to the Oosterdam alone—including new "Bridgeview" suites—they are betting big on the idea that more choice and more privacy is exactly what modern cruisers are looking for.

Actress Nathalie Baye, known for her roles in Downton Abbey: A New Era and Catch Me If You Can, died at 77 after a battle with dementia.

The star's family confirmed to French news agency AFP that she died at her home in Paris on Friday evening from a form of dementia, BBC stated.

With more than 80 films under her belt, the French cinema legend was a beloved staple of film who left her mark on American audiences with several memorable roles.

Who Did Nathalie Baye Play in Downton Abbey?

Baye starred in Downton Abbey: A New Era, the 2022 film that followed the iconic TV series. She played Madame Montmirail, a French aristocratic widow whose late husband was a friend of Violet Crawley. Back in 2022, Baye smiled alongside her co-stars to promote the film.

In addition to her role in the Downton film, Baye starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the beloved 2002 film Catch Me If You Can. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film follows DiCaprio's character as he plays a con artist who attempts to outsmart FBI agent Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks. Baye played DiCaprio's mother in the film.

Baye Was a French Cinema Icon

While American audiences largely knew Baye for her role in the Downton film, she was a staple of French cinema thanks to films like Every Man for Himself, Strange Affair, La Balance, and The Young Lieutenant. She racked up four wins at the Césars, which are largely considered to be France's equivalent of the Oscars. 

French President Emmanuel Macron made a statement upon the news of her death. Translated from French, the touching statement honored her legacy in French cinema.

"We loved Nathalie Baye so much. She accompanied, through her voice, her smiles, and her reserve, these last decades of French cinema, from François Truffaut to Tonie Marshall. An actress with whom we loved, dreamed, and grew up. We think of her family and her loved ones," Macron wrote.

While some sequels manage to surpass the original and raise the bar, others struggle to live up to expectations and completely miss the mark of what made the first film work, just like SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2.

The American family comedy movie, which was first released in 1999, was a major hit, earning a worldwide box office total of $36.5 million, tripling its production budget, as cited by Box Office Mojo.

Being one of the first films to extensively use 2D wrapping technology to make it appear that infants could talk, its groundbreaking visual effects failed to impress critics despite its strong box office performance.

Unfortunately, this also translated to the sequel released five years later.

In a list unveiled by Rotten Tomatoes, a well-known review aggregation website for film and television, they released the 56 “worst sequels of all time.”

Taking the top spot, SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 was slammed for its “lack of taste” with critics saying it proves that “bad jokes still aren't funny when coming from the mouths of babes.”

The reaction also noted how the sequel wasted the talent of its stellar cast, particularly Academy Award winning actor Jon Voight, who headlined the movie and played the antagonist.

As a result, critics cited his performance in SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 as a low point in his acting career.

Plot: The film starts with a group of babies in a daycare center. Archie Bobbins, the cousin of Sly and Whit from the first Baby Geniuses, tells his friends, Finkleman, Alex, and Rosita, a story about Kahuna, his distant relative. He says Kahuna is a super baby with super strength and seemingly doesn't age, and he once rescued a group of children from an evil orphanage at the Berlin Wall run by a villainous overseer named Bill Biscane. Back in the present day, Archie's father Stan , Dan's brother, who runs the daycare and a chain just like them, allows his center to be used as a filming location by the now TV mogul Biscane/Kane, who is starting up his own TV channel. Archie and the other babies sneak into Stan's office and decide to research Biscane but are caught. Archie overhears Biscane's helpers talking about their plan, accidentally attracting their attention, but he is rescued by Kahuna. Kylie the babysitter takes them all out to the children's museum, but Biscane's helpers accidentally knock their disc into the stroller. After a pursuit, Kahuna rescues them all; he then takes them all to his base. Kahuna transforms the babies into "superbabies": Archie is Brain Boy, Alex is Bouncing Boy, Rosita is Cupid Girl, and Finkleman is Baby Courageous. Later, Archie eavesdrops on Kylie and Zach, Kahuna's helper; Zack tells her that Kahuna's father was a scientist and developed a formula for a potion. Kahuna enters the lab, and a mysterious person tries to drink the potion but accidentally chucks it when a storm breaks through the window. It lands and Kahuna drinks it, transforming him into a super baby. Kahuna's brother became jealous and annoyed at his brother, whom his friends call a freak. When the father d!ed, Kahuna was put into an orphanage; after escaping, he set out to rescue babies and children everywhere. The next day, Zack and Kylie find the disc that fell in the stroller earlier. The disc contains a clip of the program that is to be aired on Biscane's TV channel, followed by seemingly random code; they realize that Biscane is up to no good. The group spies on Biscane as he prepares to launch his channel, but Kahuna figures out that Biscane plans to take over the world through his TV channel by hypnotizing kids to never go outside, so he att*cks the broadcast satellites, which causes him to disappear. The babies decide to become their super alter egos to save Kahuna. With Stan, Archie's mom Jean, Kylie, and Zack with them, they return to Kahuna's hideout and become Bounce Boy, Cupid Girl, Brain Boy, and Courageous Boy. After having escaped his prison, Kahuna arrives, followed by Biscane and his goons. Biscane manages to get the disc he needs and begins to air the hypnotic clip on TV. Biscane then reveals the truth that he is actually Kahuna's jealous older brother, and is revealed to be the person who tried to drink the potion. The babies then knock Biscane into Kahuna's machine which unlocks a person's true self with the push of a button. However, upon activating it he is surprisingly turned into a baby, to his despair, and argues with his assistant over who gets to change his diapers. Kahuna reverses Biscane's TV clip and all the children decide to run and play outside. Kahuna tells Archie that he must leave and retire and though they'll always be friends. In addition, Collider, which compiled a list of Jon Voight’s 10 “worst movies,” ranked the 2004 sequel as his worst.

On the other hand, the family comedy movie also received a green splat rating or was rated Rotten, which means that the majority of professional critics reviewed it negatively.

Helmed by Bob Clark, who also directed the first movie, the storyline focuses on a new group of toddlers attempting to stop a media mogul, Bill Biscane, portrayed by Jon Voight.

Was SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 a Flop?

In contrast to the original movie, SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 had a worldwide gross of only $9.4 million with an estimated production budget of around $20 million.

With this, various publications and critics have since labeled the movie as a “massive commercial and critical flop” and it frequently appears on lists of the worst films ever made.

Lincoln, Nebraska

While Nebraska may not exactly scream "dreamy retirement destination" to everyone, the state has a lot going for it. In fact, the state's website says that it began phasing out the taxation of Social Security benefits in 2022, allowing you to keep more money in your pocket when you retire.

But those who decide to settle down in Lincoln may be in for a real treat, considering the cost of living here is around 6 percent less than the national average. Not only that, but the Senior Living blog says that around 14 percent of the town's 300,619 population is made up of seniors, so those looking for community will feel right at home. Add into the fact that there is no estate tax and only a 15 percent max inheritance tax (it varies by county), and this city seems like a great place to start your second chapter.

Plus, Payscale says that food won't be too big of an expense, since groceries are around 2 percent below the national average, while housing is a whopping 23 percent lower.

Uniontown, Pennsylvania

Looking for a small-town feel in your retirement? You may want to head to Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The Senior Living blog says that just 9,554 people call this town home, and roughly 21.4 percent of them are seniors.

Located around an hour south of Pittsburgh, this quaint town has a lot of rich history to offer by way of historical monuments. Plus, the overall cost of living here remains low, according to Payscale, which puts it 11 percent below the national average. Groceries and housing also remain lower, at 2 percent and 37 percent below average, respectively.

Freeport, Illinois

If you don't mind cold winters, Freeport, Illinois, is worth adding to your list. Not only can you call this town home for less than $2,500 a month, but the Senior Living blog says that you can do so with a large chunk of like-minded friends. That's because the town's population of 23,140 is largely made up of retirees, and about 22 percent are ages 65 and up.

According to Best Places, you can get by on around $1,700 a month here if you're living by yourself, which is about 64.3 percent less expensive than the national average. Similarly, housing prices are around $91,900, about 72.8 percent below the national average. If you already have quite a bit of equity built up in your current home, you could conceivably purchase a new house in Freeport and live mortgage-free.

Sebring, Florida

Florida is often a fan favorite for seniors. The state has great tax breaks for retirees, and you truly just can't beat the weather (when it's not hurricane season, that is). But despite a low cost of living, some popular retirement destinations are too expensive for those living on a fixed income.

Enter, Sebring, Florida. According to Best Places, a single person can live here for just $2,300 a month. That's because the website says this spot is about 51.8 percent less expensive than the national average and 19.5 percent lower than the state's average. That includes everything from food to healthcare, which means you'll be able to live a bit more comfortably when you retire here.

Of course, there are many other costs to consider when moving, including credit card debt, car payments, and lifestyle choices, which can affect how much you need to spend each month to get by. That said, these towns offer a lower overall cost of living, which can help keep your basic costs down in retirement.

Star Trek’s big-screen future is moving forward again, even as the franchise’s television lineup continues to shift.

At CinemaCon 2026, Paramount confirmed that a new Star Trek film remains in active development. The update follows years of uncertainty around the franchise’s movie plans, including multiple halted or shelved attempts to continue the Kelvin timeline introduced in 2009.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a hit romantic comedy that was released in 2008. It was an immediate box office success that was written by Jason Segel, who also played the lead in the film. Starring alongside him were Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Russell Brand. The film was produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Nicholas Stoller.

“We’re coming up on 20 years,” Segel recently said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “It feels like a lifetime ago. We were all probably different people.”

One of the most memorable scenes in the film involves a Dracula puppet rock opera. In real life, Segel is a fan of puppets, co-writing the script for the 2011 The Muppets film, which he also starred in. Although Forgetting Sarah Marshall is 18 years old today, there’s a chance there will be more content for fans in the future about the main character, Peter Bretter, and his puppets.

“I have an idea that I've had for a long time that I just need people to be excited about doing," Segel said in a 2023 interview with GQ. "I would like to do a special of [my Forgetting Sarah Marshall character] Peter Bretter bringing A Taste For Love to Broadway. Almost like what Lin-Manuel Miranda did with Hamilton, that special about the making of. I would love to see that, but for Peter Bretter taking the Dracula puppet musical to Broadway.”

Audiobooks have been gaining popularity over the last few decades. If you're a fan of them, then Julia Whelan is probably one of the voices that you've heard before. She is a professional narrator who has worked on novels written by bestselling authors like Gillian Flynn, Emily Henry, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Kristen Hannah, and Freida McFadden.

In an exclusive interview with E! News, Whelan spoke about the process of recording an audiobook, which is much more work than most readers realize. “When I get an offer for an audiobook, I don't have time to read the book ahead of time to make the decision, and the publisher doesn't have time to wait for me, so I have to just kind of go on vibes,” she explained. “Is it an author that I either know or I've always wanted to work for? Does the synopsis sound interesting?”

She went on to say, “My decision-making process really boils down to the fact that I am a book nerd who, if I read a flap, and I would pay $27 for that book, that's enough of an indication for me that I want to do it.”

Even though Whelan has worked on hit books that are beloved by readers, she revealed that the amount of money that narrators typically make isn’t high, especially for the amount of hours they are required to put in. "It's about four hours of work to one finished hour of audio," she explained, but they are paid based on finished runtime.

“Because audio books are notoriously ill paid, I would do 70 books a year to keep my head above water,” she said, confessing that she once recorded a new audiobook every four days or so.

In addition to the many hours it takes to prep and record, the work can also strain your voice. “I ran myself into the ground," she said. "I had a doctor say, ‘If you don't give yourself a 30-day vocal rest, I can't guarantee you're going to get your voice back.' That was the wake-up call that I needed to start prioritizing my vocal health and also mental health. It's not good to be like locked in that booth for eight hours a day—physically, mentally—in the intensity of telling these stories.”

She claims she made a change after working on her debut novel. “I wrote My Oxford Year under those conditions, almost had a breakdown and said I would not write another book until I had changed my work life," she explained. "I slowly started raising my rate and cutting back on the number of books I would do. There are a lot of narrators who have recorded way more books than I do because they're still doing it at that pace.”

Whelan has several books of her own available, including Thank You for Listening, which is a contemporary romance novel about former actress who becomes a successful audiobook narrator.

Gatorade is preparing to launch an all-new electrolyte beverage, inspired by the PepsiCo brand's six decades of hydration science and featuring more electrolytes than previous formulas.

Earlier this week, the iconic drink label revealed that it has big plans for 2026, some of which it has already begun, such as revamping current Gatorade formulas to use less sugar and no FD&C (artificial) colors. Going forward, the company said its goal is to refresh the way consumers view hydration.

"One of the biggest misconceptions about hydration is that it only matters for elite athletes or extreme situations," Damian Browne, senior vice president of R&D at PepsiCo Beverages U.S., suggested in an April 16 press release. "In reality, mild to moderate dehydration can build gradually across the day for most people, often without realizing it, and thirst is not always a reliable signal."

Doctors have actually begged people to stop waiting until they're thirsty to drink water, because other "weird" symptoms can creep up once dehydration kicks in, and, as Gatorade points out, it can affect everyday life in ways that don't always look like "dehydration."

Most people know that hydration is essential for overall health, with every cell from head to toe relying on it to function. Staying hydrated allows all cells to operate optimally, resulting in benefits such as better digestion, joint health, improved energy levels, and radiant skin. But what some may not realize is that experts suggest electrolyte and sports drinks like Gatorade can actually support hydration better than just plain ol' water in some cases.

And with that, Gatorade said it plans to introduce the new Gatorlyte Longer Lasting later this year, with more electrolytes and hydration properties than even its Hydration Booster.

According to an official description, Gatorlyte Longer Lasting features a first-to-market proprietary electrolyte blend designed to help the body retain fluids and stay hydrated longer than water. It will be Gatorade's highest electrolyte ready-to-drink offering and was developed for activities where maintaining hydration over extended periods matters (like long travel days, demanding work shifts, or sustained physical activity).

Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull is stepping into a new spotlight off the court, and it already includes her teammate Caitlin Clark. 

During a recent interview about her newly launched cosmetics brand, Hull revealed that Clark has agreed to let her handle her makeup at some point.

“She's already said yes. I, she has already agreed to letting me do her makeup. It might not be for a game or for practice. I will be using Forta on her at some point,” Hull said.

The moment highlights not only the growing bond between the two WNBA stars but also Hull’s push into the beauty industry with a product line built for athletes and active lifestyles.

Hull introduced her brand, FORTA Cosmetics, as a “performance cosmetics” line designed for people constantly on the move. Speaking about the concept, she explained that the brand goes beyond traditional beauty products.

“Forta Cosmetics is a performance cosmetics brand built for the active girls, so anyone on the move, be like a professional basketball player or someone just wanting to go from Pilates to drinks with their friends or someone running around from business meeting to business meeting,” Hull said.

The idea came from her own experience as a professional athlete who wears makeup during games. Hull admitted that keeping makeup intact during competition has always been a challenge.

“For me, I wear makeup when I play. I had just accepted the fact that my makeup was gonna be on a jersey or a towel before the game even started, so we felt like we could create something that's better than everything else out there,” she said.

Hull’s connection with Clark adds another layer of interest to the brand. The two have built strong chemistry since Hull joined the Indiana Fever. Now, that relationship is extending into business and lifestyle.

While Hull made it clear the makeup session may not happen during official team activities, the confirmation alone has sparked curiosity among fans. Clark, one of the most recognizable faces in women’s basketball, could bring major attention to the brand once the collaboration happens.

Hull also shared her personal reasons for wearing makeup during games, keeping it simple and direct.

“I want to look good, feel good, so I can play good,” she said.

Hull’s move into entrepreneurship comes during a strong stretch in her basketball career. She recently signed a multi-year deal to stay with the Fever, keeping the team’s young core intact as they prepare for the 2026 season.

The Color Purple was written by Alice Walker in 1982. The following year, on April 18, it won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making Walker the first Black woman to win in the category. The Color Purple was adapted into a 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Whoopi Goldberg. The film received several nominations, including 11 Academy Awards. Spielberg also produced the 2023 musical adaptation of The Color Purple along with Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Scott Sanders. It was based on the stage musical, which originally ran on Broadway from 2005 to 2008. When it returned in 2015 until 2017, with Cynthia Erivo starring, it won two Tony awards.

Walker published many other novels over the course of her career, along with short stories, essays, and poetry collections. She recently celebrated her 82ndbirthday in February 2026.

Nancy Guthrie is still missing more than three months after authorities say that she was abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night. As the case continues, Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie and Annie's husband Tommaso Cioni have erected a "no trespassing" sign on their front lawn.

On Wednesday, April 15, YouTuber Jonathan Lee Riches, known online as JLR, shared a picture of the sign that clearly states that violators will be prosecuted.

It is unclear exactly when the sign was put up, but the photo was posted after the Pima County Sheriff’s Department increased patrols in the neighborhood following complaints raised at a recent HOA meeting about a YouTuber allegedly “harassing residents” in the area.

Some social media users were confused by the sign, given that it has been months since Nancy disappeared. Moreover, the majority of the media attention has been at Nancy's house, about 10 miles away. That has significantly died down in recent weeks, though there are a handful of YouTube streamers still filming in the area.

"I haven’t seen or heard anyone even going to Annie & Tomasso property. Why the sign ? So strange," one person commented on JLR's photo.

"No one has ever trespassed on their property," someone else said.

In early February, authorities placed no trespassing signs at Nancy's home.

"[The department will] maintain a presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence for security purposes going forward," a spokesperson from the Pima County Sheriff's Department said at the time, according to People magazine. "Members of the media and the public are reminded that all traffic laws and private property laws must be followed. No trespassing is allowed on Nancy Guthrie’s property."

The Guthrie family has asked for the public's help in locating Nancy and finding the person or persons responsible for her disappearance. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).

Dick Clark is one of the most iconic television and radio personalities to ever appear on our screens. He won multiple Emmy awards, including a Daytime Lifetime Achievement Award, and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1976.

Clark hosted American Bandstand for over three decades, spanning from 1956 to 1989. The program featured teenagers dancing to popular songs from the Top 40 charts. Musical acts would also appear on the show, and would usually lip-sync to one of their own songs. It was the first time many viewers were exposed to iconic bands like The Supremes, Ike & Tina Turner, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Simon & Garfunkel, Iggy Pop, Prince, and Madonna. Since Clark popularized rock music by giving bands national exposure, he was inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 in the non-performer category.

When asked whether he missed hosting American Bandstand in a 1998 interview, he said, “I'd be lying if I told you I didn't, but I knew at one point I had to leave the party when I turned 60. It would be inappropriate to be still doing the show. Not that I couldn't physically do it and pull it off, but you gotta know when to hang it up. It's a little bit like Jerry Seinfeld saying, 'I gotta leave after this year.' It's a tough decision, but I do miss it.”

Clark also hosted five different iterations of the popular game show, Pyramid, from 1973 to 1988. The show paired a celebrity with a contestant and had them try to guess mystery words or phrases.

Clark is also famous for creating Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which is now hosted by Ryan Seacrest. The program, which is broadcast from Time Square in New York City to watch the ball drop, was originally aired was in 1972. Clark hosted annually until 2004.  However, he would make occasional appearances until his death in 2012. He passed at the age of 82 after a heart attack in Santa Monica, California.

Use cold, filtered water for the best flavor, ideally measuring it with your serving cup to get the proportions just right. Sugar is optional, but if you like your coffee sweet, it should be added before brewing rather than after.

You’ll also need a cezve, the traditional Turkish coffee pot that allows the coffee to foam properly as it heats. Finally, serve the finished coffee in small demitasse cups, which are perfectly sized for the rich, concentrated brew.

How To Make Turkish Coffee

This is where everything comes together—and where small details make a huge difference. Follow this step-by-step method for making the best Turkish coffee.

Step-By-Step (Authentic Method)

Start by measuring your water using the same cup you'll be serving in, then pour that cold water into your cezve. This simple step keeps your ratios consistent and is one of those small traditional habits that really improve the final result.

Next, add one heaping teaspoon of finely ground coffee per cup of water. If you don't have Turkish coffee on hand, grind your own coffee beans into a fine powder (much finer than espresso).

Also, add sugar based on your preference. Unlike most coffee methods, Turkish coffee is sweetened before brewing, so this is your only chance to adjust the sweetness.

Give everything a gentle stir just once to combine, then leave it alone. It might feel strange not to stir again, but this is essential for forming that signature foam on top.

Place the cezve over low heat and let it warm slowly. This is the part where patience matters most—rushing with high heat will flatten the flavor, make it bitter and ruin the foam. As it heats, you'll notice a thick layer of foam forming on the surface.

Right before the coffee starts to boil, remove it from the heat. For an even richer result, you can pour half the coffee into your cup, then return it briefly to the heat once or twice more, allowing the foam to build further each time.

Finally, let the coffee rest for a few seconds, then pour the remaining slowly into your cup. A gentle pour helps keep most of the grounds settled at the bottom while preserving that beautiful foam on top.

Sugar Levels (Traditional Options)

Turkish coffee is sweetened before brewing, not after, which is one of the key differences in how it’s prepared. This allows you to tailor the sweetness to your taste right from the start.

Traditionally, there are several levels to choose from: sade means no sugar at all, while az şekerli includes about half a teaspoon for a lightly sweet flavor. Orta is the middle ground with roughly one teaspoon of sugar, and şekerli or çok şekerli ranges from one and a half to two teaspoons for a noticeably sweeter cup.

When I first tried this at home, I went with orta, and it honestly felt like the perfect balance—just enough sweetness to round it out without overpowering the coffee.

Lessons Learned When Making Turkish Coffee at Home

The biggest mistake I made the first time? I cooked it on a burner that was too large, and it boiled too fast, making it bitter. I quickly learned to pick a smaller burner and slow things down.

When I did so, I noticed the foam was thicker and creamier, the flavor tasted smoother—not harsh or bitter—and the aroma filled the entire kitchen.

I also started pouring a little foam into each cup first, then topping it off—something I'd seen in traditional methods. That tiny detail made it feel authentic, not just homemade.

How To Drink Turkish Coffee

This part is just as important as making it. Let it sit for a minute so the grounds settle, sip slowly—never stir after pouring and stop before the bottom, as that's where any remaining grounds are.

Traditionally, it's served with a small glass of water to cleanse your palate, followed by something sweet, like Turkish delight.

When I started doing this at home, it completely changed the experience. It turned coffee into a moment instead of just caffeine.

Creative Twists To Make Turkish Coffee Your Own

Once you've mastered the basics, you can start experimenting—this is where it gets fun. Add cardamom for a floral, citrusy twist; cinnamon for something warm and slightly sweet; rose water for aromatic, floral notes; or cloves for a more traditional flavor.

Turkish coffee often leans bolder and sometimes sweeter, with spices and flavorings added directly to the grind.

My favorite coffee-making upgrade, though, is to focus on developing the foam by cooking it over low heat. That's the difference between average and incredible Turkish coffee. The foam isn't just visual—it's a sign you've extracted the coffee properly.

Final Thoughts

Making Turkish coffee better isn't about fancy tools or expensive beans—it's about patience, precision and respecting the process. Once you get it right, it's hard to go back to regular coffee without feeling like something's missing.

The recent death of actor James Van Der Beek is another startling reminder of the rising rates of colorectal cancer, particularly among adults 50 and younger. According to the Cancer Research Institute, one in five people diagnosed with colorectal cancer is under 55 years old.

While the exact reasons for the rise in colorectal cancer among younger adults are still unknown, Dr. Partha Nandi, MD, FACP, a gastroenterologist with Mayo Clinic and the author of Heal Your Gut, Save Your Brain, says that diet is likely a major factor. 

“I think diet is a significant cause of the rise of colorectal cancer. We as a society—especially younger people—eat a lot of ultraprocessed foods. This type of food is made in factories, and is low in fiber and high in sugar,” he says, explaining that sugar completely disrupts the gut microbiome, which is made up of trillions of bacteria and fungi. It may sound gross, but the reality is that having a gut microbiome with diverse, good bacteria is crucial for overall health.

Dr. Nandi explains that when the gut microbiome is disrupted, it creates an environment where disease can form, including cancer. “Cancer is an overgrowth of tissue in the body. If the immune system is intact, it can [help] protect against cancer. But if the immune system is compromised because of a nutrient-poor diet, it can’t do this,” he reveals, adding that most of the body’s immune system is located in the gut.

As a gastroenterologist, it’s Dr. Nandi’s job to keep up with the latest scientific research about how diet impacts gut health—for better or for worse. He also sees it firsthand by treating patients. This knowledge has impacted the way he eats personally, which he shares below.

How Diet Can Impact Your Cancer Risk

Just like how a nutrient-poor diet can increase the risk of colorectal cancer, a nutrient-rich diet can decrease the risk. “It’s encouraging and empowering that we can decrease the risk of cancer through diet,” Dr. Nandi says.

He explains that the bacteria that make up the gut microbiome are constantly changing. This means that if you change your diet habits to be healthier, you’ll start reaping the health benefits rather quickly. “Your gut microbiome can change within weeks,” he adds.

To maintain a thriving gut microbiome, Dr. Nandi says that he focuses on eating whole foods instead of ultraprocessed ones. He prioritizes fiber-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and plant-based proteins. He also regularly eats fermented foods, which help increase the good bacteria in the gut. “Every culture has fermented foods, such as kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut or pickles,” he tells Parade.

What a Gastroenterologist Eats To Lower the Risk of Colorectal Cancer

What does prioritizing a healthy gut microbiome look like? Here, Dr. Nandi shares what he eats on an average day.

Breakfast

For breakfast, Dr. Nandi typically has yogurt topped with fruit. He explains that the fruit provides natural sweetness, which is better for the gut than artificially flavored yogurts with sugar. The yogurt has probiotics, which feed the good bacteria in the gut. 

Instead of topping his yogurt with the same fruit every day, he switches it up. For example, one day, he’ll top it with blueberries and the next with pineapple. Dr. Nandi explains that eating a wide range of nutrient-rich foods is better for gut health than eating the same healthy food every single day. Regardless of which fruit he chooses, it’s a good source of fiber, a crucial nutrient for gut health.

Besides yogurt, he also starts the day by drinking 32 ounces of water, and he continues to stay hydrated all day. Water is key to keeping the digestive system running properly and helps prevent constipation.

Lunch

Lunch is Dr. Nandi’s biggest meal of the day and he prioritizes eating it slowly instead of scarfing it down between patients. “I don’t typically eat it all in one sitting. I spread it out over a few hours,” he tells Parade. He explains that the reason why he makes lunch his biggest meal of the day is that his brain and body need more energy during the afternoon than in the evening, after dinner.

As for what he eats, Dr. Nandi shares that he pretty much always has a big salad, but he varies the ingredients. Remember: Diversity is crucial for gut health. “I like microgreens and chickpeas. I like eggs, so I’ll have hard-boiled eggs in my salad about half the time. I often put salmon and quinoa in it,” he says.

Since his salad is so filling and he takes his time eating it, he doesn’t feel the need to snack throughout the day, such as on chips or candy.

Dinner

Dr. Nandi likes to keep his dinners simple. “Typically, I start with vegetables, such as broccoli or cauliflower. For protein, I eat chicken, fish or a plant-based protein source,” he tells Parade. 

Dr. Nandi was born in India and he says that turmeric, cumin and ginger—three spices that lower inflammation—have always been a cornerstone of his cooking. “I like to think of dinner as a meal that supports recovery and lowers inflammation before I go to sleep,” he explains.

Something Dr. Nandi doesn’t typically have with his dinner is soda or alcohol. Both drinks, he warns, are major gut disruptors.

Sleep

While it’s not a food, Dr. Nandi considers sleep “brain food,” and he does his best to get at least seven hours of sleep a night. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s always his goal. “Sleep is food for your immune system and your entire body. Having that opportunity to rest and reset is important for protecting against disease,” he explains.

Scientific research backs this up, showing that consistently not getting enough sleep is associated with a higher risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack and stroke.

Rock legend John Fogerty is speaking candidly about his life, struggles and lasting career more than six decades after he first started making music. 

In a newly released episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the 80-year-old singer-songwriter reflected on his darkest moments, his personal comeback and the people who helped him survive it all.

Fogerty shared that during a painful period marked by alcohol abuse and emotional turmoil, he believed he might not have made it through without his wife, Julie.

“If I hadn’t met her, I probably would be dead. Simple as that,” he said. “I didn’t see any way out. I was really abusing myself, alcohol mostly. I really felt bad inside.”

The interview, which runs over three hours, also covers his early songwriting days, his long battle to reclaim ownership of his music, and his latest project, Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years.

Fogerty explained that his struggles were deeply tied to a long-running dispute with his record company. The conflict left him without control over songs he had written, creating anger that eventually turned inward.

“In my case, something really unjust had been done to me,” he said. “But however you get there… and then you start abusing yourself with drugs, alcohol, whatever. It just becomes a habit.”

At the time, he described himself as “that guy,” someone stuck in what he called a “perpetual binge mode,” driven by bitterness and frustration.

Everything began to change in 1986 when he met Julie while on tour. The two later married in 1991 and built a family together, raising three children. Fogerty credits her with helping him rediscover both himself and his music.

“One day [I] just suddenly met Julie, not expecting to meet the love of my life… the person that would, through her good graces, help me find myself and help me enjoy and find the joy of life again,” he said. “And it all changed.”

Beyond emotional support, Julie also played a key role in his professional life. During the 1980s, Fogerty had stopped performing songs from his Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog due to legal disputes. Over time, she encouraged him to reconnect with the music that defined his career.

He later shared that the decision brought him peace.

“I’m just really happy that my life turned out this way and I get to celebrate that music [now].”

Fogerty’s reflections come as he continues to stay active in music at age 80. His Legacy Tour has been extended into 2026, with new dates added across major venues. The tour supports his 2025 album, Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years, a re-recording of classic songs from his catalog.

The upcoming shows will feature both solo performances and co-headlining dates with fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Winwood. Together, they are set to deliver extended concerts that celebrate decades of classic rock.

The tour’s expansion highlights Fogerty’s enduring influence in music. His career began in the late 1950s and rose to global fame with Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band that produced multiple hit songs and albums between 1968 and 1972.

Even after the group disbanded, Fogerty continued as a solo artist, earning recognition as one of the greatest songwriters and singers in rock history. Over the years, his music has remained relevant, with songs like “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” still widely played today.

Now, after more than 67 years in music, Fogerty says he is finally in a place where he can celebrate both his life and his work.
