1985 Rock Song, Written by '80s Rock Legend Kate Bush, Became a No. 1 Hit Nearly 40 Years Later

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 7:34pm

One unforgettable television scene sent a 37-year-old song higher than it had ever climbed.

Kate Bush released "Running Up That Hill" in 1985 as the lead single from her fifth studio album, Hounds of Love. Although the song became a hit and reached No. 3 in the U.K., its biggest chart moment would not arrive until nearly four decades later.

Bush wrote and produced the song, which was originally titled "A Deal with God." Her record label worried the name could prevent it from receiving airplay in some countries, leading her to release it as "Running Up That Hill." The album listed the full title as "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)."

The song explores the idea of two people switching places so they can better understand one another. Bush believed it was a stronger introduction to Hounds of Love than "Cloudbusting," which her label initially wanted to release as the album's first single.

"Running Up That Hill" found an entirely new audience in 2022 when it was used in season four of Stranger Things. The song becomes a favorite of Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, and serves as an important part of her story throughout the season.

Its most memorable appearance comes in season four's fourth episode, "Dear Billy." As Max attempts to escape Vecna's control, her friends play "Running Up That Hill," giving her a path back to them. The scene quickly became one of the show's most widely discussed moments.

The response carried far beyond the series. Streams increased around the world and the song returned to the U.K. chart before climbing to No. 1 in June 2022. It remained there for three weeks, becoming the song that took the longest time to reach No. 1 in U.K. chart history.

Bush shared her appreciation for the song's unexpected success, writing, "I'm overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving".

The resurgence also gave Bush her first U.K. No. 1 single since "Wuthering Heights" in 1978. By June 2023, "Running Up That Hill" had surpassed one billion Spotify streams, showing how one powerful scene introduced an already beloved song to millions of new listeners.

Elle Fanning’s Apple TV Show Inspired OnlyFans’ Most Unlikely New Star

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 7:28pm

There’s a new OnlyFans star, and now, we’re not talking about Knots Landing actress Donna Mills. While joining the adult content site at 85 is pretty impressive, this instant celeb is…well, much smaller, furrier, and walks on all fours.

That’s right, walks on all fours. The latest OnlyFans sensation is a rodent. More specifically, a group of rodents. UCLA professor and co-director of The Marmot ProjectDan Blumstein recently launched an OnlyFans account for the marmots he researches. If you’re thinking, “Wait, what?”, you aren’t alone. Here’s the story behind this seemingly strange collab.

A marmot. Photo: Getty Images

Getty Images

The Marmot Project is exactly what the name implies. It’s a research project that studies marmots. Started in 1962 by behavioral ecologist Ken Armitage at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Colorado, this is the second largest study of individually identified mammals (the largest is Jane Goodall’s legendary chimpanzee research).

For decades, The Marmot Project received financial support from the National Science Foundation. But when recent proposals were turned down, the Project lost a significant source of funding. That’s when Blumstein had an idea.

Inspired by Elle Fanning’s character from Margo’s Got Money Troubles (the hit Apple TV series about a 20-something single mom who uses OnlyFans to solve her “money troubles”), Blumstein decided to follow suit. The researcher told PEOPLE, “I’m like, ‘Marmots have money troubles.’”

That’s when one of Blumstein’s students came up with a genius name: OnlyMarms.

Of course, it wasn’t exactly easy to start an OnlyFans account for marmots. The site has strict rules that require all users to be age-verified. Blumstein had to contact the site and explain that marmots “don’t have driver’s licenses.” OnlyFans got it and granted him approval for OnlyMarms.

So far the marmots have done pretty well for themselves. According to The Seattle Times, as of August, the account has raised $5,000 in tips.

The Marmot Project On OnlyFans

What can you see on the OnlyMarms very G-rated OnlyFans account? First-year graduate student in the Blumstein Lab, Emily Renkey, told The Seattle Times, “These are wild animals, so it’s important for people to know that we are just getting footage of them in their natural environment.” She added, We’re just framing it as a way to be in the field observing marmots with us.”

Blumstein also talked candidly to PEOPLE about why his fundraising efforts are crucial, explaining, “This is about the destruction of universities and science and the challenges that people studying long-term ecological research are facing…It’s not just about marmots.”

‘Queen of Rock and Roll’ Cancels Upcoming Shows Due to Medical Emergency

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 7:12pm

JoanJett canceled her upcoming concerts due to medical issues.

The singer-songwriter, known as both the "Queen of Rock and Roll" and "Godmother of Punk," is recovering from a back injury. The 67-year-old will not perform her two upcoming shows.

Jett's team posted a statement about the situation to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, August 5.

“Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae and will begin the necessary healing process,” the statement read. “In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, CA on September 5th and in Louisville, KY on September 24th.”

Jett, alongside her band, the Blackhearts, was scheduled to perform at the Orange County Fair in California and the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Kentucky.

“While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,” the statement continued. “She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.”

Neither Jett nor her team provided further details about her injury.

The “Bad Reputation” singer hit the road in May. Jett and her band performed in Europe in July, marking the group's first major tour since the death of drummer ThommyPrice in October 2025. She shared a video of the tour on Instagram earlier this week with the caption “Thanks for the summer love Europe, can’t wait to come back 🖤."

Jett spoke to Far Out magazine in April about her love for touring.

“To be part of people’s interior dialogue is pretty special and a unique thing," she shared "That’s what I love most, is to be out on stage visibly seeing people enjoying themselves, and I’m looking forward to it very much.”

The "Cherry Bomb" singer reflected on being on the road in her late 60s.

“I know too much now. There’s just a thing that comes when you’re young, and I was definitely naive about a lot of things,” Jett explained.

“You know, you got to have common sense, and you got to be able to take care of yourself,” she said. “I wish I knew then what I know now, you know.”

'80s Rock Legend and Member of One of the 'Best Rock Bands of All Time' Turns 74

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:54pm

Vinnie Vincent spent only a few years with KISS, but they came during one of the biggest turning points in the band's history.

The guitarist and songwriter turns 74 on Aug. 6. Born Vincent John Cusano in Bridgeport, Conn., in 1952, Vincent became known for his fast, technically demanding guitar work and his contributions to several important KISS albums.

His place in the group's history carries particular weight decades later. KISS ranked No. 16 on Louder's list of the 50 best rock bands of all time, with the publication praising the band's music, influence and unforgettable live shows.

Vincent joined KISS in 1982 as Ace Frehley's replacement. Before officially becoming a member, he played lead guitar on six songs from Creatures of the Night and helped write "I Love It Loud," "Killer" and "War Machine." He then toured with the group as the Ankh Warrior, becoming the final member to receive an original makeup persona.

His arrival also came just before KISS removed its famous makeup. Vincent appeared on 1983's Lick It Up, the band's first album cover without the look that had helped make its members famous. He co-wrote eight of the record's 10 songs, including its title track, and played lead guitar throughout most of the album.

Vincent left KISS following the Lick It Up tour in 1984, but his career continued with the formation of Vinnie Vincent Invasion. The group released its self-titled debut in 1986 and followed it with All Systems Go in 1988, further establishing his reputation among the era's prominent hard rock guitarists.

He later reunited with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley as a songwriter on KISS' 1992 album Revenge. Vincent helped write three songs for the record, including "Unholy" and "I Just Wanna," giving him another lasting connection to the band's catalog.

After spending more than two decades away from public appearances, Vincent returned for the Atlanta KISS Expo in 2018. Looking back on his time in the group, he said, "I think everything that happened was very special, and I think the fans know it. I think it was a great chapter in the band's career," during an interview with Eddie Trunk.

Vincent is still working on music. In 2026, he made headlines by offering his 10-song album Guitarmaggedon to a single buyer for $2 million, with individual songs available for $200,000 each. The unusual offer followed the release of the album's first single, "Ride the Serpent," earlier in the year.

As Vincent celebrates his 74th birthday, his guitar work and songwriting remain tied to a pivotal period for KISS, when the band changed its image and found a new path through the 1980s.

1971 Soft Rock Hit, Rumored to Be About an Affair With James Taylor, Was Actually Inspired by a 24-Year-Old Cook

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:45pm

Like so many other iconic musicians from the '70s, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor had a relationship that was both professional and personal. The pair's romantic involvement extended to creative collaboration: Taylor played guitar on several of the tracks for Mitchell's classic 1971 album Blue; they even performed together at London's Paris Theatre in 1970. But while Mitchell admitted to writing "See You Sometime" about Taylor, another song from Blue that many assumed to have the same inspiration was actually about a very different person altogether.

Released on Blue, "Carey" was written during the period of time Mitchell spent traveling through Europe in the late '60s on a much-needed break from the music business. At one point, Mitchell ended up on the Greek island Crete, where she took up with a community of cave-dwelling hippies in Matala.

“The caves were on high sedimentary cliffs, sandstone, a lot of seashells in it," Mitchell recalled in a 1971 interview with Rolling Stone.

"The caves were carved out by the Minoans hundreds of years ago," she continued. "Then they were used later on for leper caves. Then after that the Romans came, and they used them for burial crypts. Then some of them were filled in and sealed up for a long time. People began living there, beatniks, in the fifties. Kids gradually dug out more rooms. There were some people there who were wearing human teeth necklaces around their necks."

During a performance at The Troubador, Mitchell introduced "Carey" by talking about the real man, a "red, red rogue" who lived in a cave and cooked at a local restaurant.

“I went to Greece a couple years ago and over there I met a very unforgettable character," Mitchell recalled. "I have a hard time remembering people’s names, like, so I have to remember things by association, even unforgettable characters, I have to remember by association, so his name was 'Carrot' Raditz, Carey Raditz, and oh, he’s a great character."

"He’s got sort of a flaming red personality, and flaming red hair and a flaming red appetite for red wine and he fancied himself to be a gourmet cook, you know, if he could be a gourmet cook in a cave in Matala," she continued. "And he announced to my girlfriend and I the day that we met him that he was the best cook in the area and he actually was working at the time I met him — he was working at this place called the Delphini restaurant — until it exploded, singed half of the hair off of his beard and his legs, and scorched his turban, melted down his golden earrings."

In a 2014 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Raditz himself (whose first name is actually spelled Cary) opened up about his first encounter with Mitchell, saying they "met either while I was watching a sunset or when I was blown through the door of Delfini's, a taverna where I cooked."

Related: 1974 No. 1 Soft Rock Hit, Originally Considered a Throwaway, Ranked One of the 'Greatest Songs of All Time'

"I knew Joni was in Matala," Raditz added. "There was buzz among the 50 or so hippies who lived in the 30-odd caves in the cliff about a famous singer coming to the fishing village. I hadn't followed her career closely, so I wasn't sure who she was."

According to Raditz, Mitchell first played "Carey" for him as a present on his 24th birthday.

"She also gave me 10 Mickey Mouse chocolate bars," he said. "They came with these Disney character cards that the cave people traded. When she sang the song, I was surprised by it, since I'm the subject. But I wasn't blown away. It sounded like a ditty, something she had tossed off. I believe the song went on longer than the final version on Blue. I think she changed some of the lines, too. As I recall, she sang something like, 'Last night I couldn't sleep, the sea was full of sheep.' One of the local expressions was that when the sea was choppy, the whitecaps looked like sheep."

Raditz went on to say that while he was sad to see their brief affair end, he wasn't surprised.

"She was always saying she was going to take off soon, so her intentions were clear," Raditz explained. "Months earlier she was an elegant lady living in Laurel Canyon, and Matala was as foreign to her world as you could get. Life was very simple and raw in Matala, and eventually she wanted to return to her home and career. I liked Joni a lot and didn't like losing her company. But on the road, you already know that the friendships you develop are short-lived. That's built into the experience."

Not every romance lasts forever...but even fewer are immortalized in a legendary song.

Bachelor Nation's Joe Amabile Shares Hopeful Update After Brain Surgery

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:30pm

Bachelor in Paradise star Joe Amabile is sharing a positive update after undergoing brain surgery.

On Wednesday, Aug. 5, the reality TV star and podcast host underwent a craniotomy to remove a brain tumor.

One day later, Amabile shared photos from his hospital bed on Instagram showing bandages wrapped around his head while holding the hand of his wife, Serena Pitt.

He captioned the post, "They got it all!" seemingly referring to the successful removal of the tumor.

Bachelor Nation quickly flooded the comments with messages of support.

"Yayyyy!!! Praise! So so happy to see this update!!" wrote Ashley Iaconetti.

"F--k yes they did," commented Blake Moynes.

"You did it Joe!! Best news!!! 🫶🏾." added Tayshia Adams.

RELATED: Bachelor Nation’s Joe Amabile Reveals Ambitious Goal After Brain Surgery

Last month, Amabile revealed that doctors had discovered what appeared to be an early-stage brain tumor after he underwent a Prenuvo scan, a proactive full-body MRI.

“So a little medical update. I didn’t share my Prenuvo results because they ended up finding a lesion in my brain,” Amabile said in a video shared to his Instagram. “So then I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor.”

He went on to explain that he would undergo a craniotomy to remove the lesion and determine whether it was cancerous.

“So I now need to get brain surgery to get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there,” Amabile continued. “So it’s been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn’t expecting this.”

“I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Oh, something like this never happened to me,’ and here I am,” he added. “They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated.”

Amabile met Pitt while filming Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise in 2021. The couple tied the knot in an intimate courthouse ceremony in New York City in October 2022 before celebrating with a larger wedding in Charleston, South Carolina, the following year.

Elvis' Leading Lady in Two Hit Movies Dies at 87

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:24pm

Joan Blackman, the actress who played Elvis Presley's leading lady in both Blue Hawaii and Kid Galahad, has died at the age of 87.

Blackman died March 16 at a hospital in Santa Rosa, California, according to her son, Ngai Tarkington (via The Hollywood Reporter). She was a longtime resident of nearby Calistoga.

The San Francisco native became one of the few actresses to star opposite Presley in more than one film. In 1961's Blue Hawaii, she played tour guide Maile Duval, who ultimately marries Elvis' Chad Gates at the end of the beloved musical comedy. The following year, she reunited with the singer in Kid Galahad, portraying Rose Grogan, who once again becomes the romantic partner of Presley's character.

Beyond her work with Elvis, Blackman appeared alongside Dean Martin in the 1959 drama Career and starred opposite Jerry Lewis in the 1960 comedy Visit to a Small Planet. She also had a recurring role during the 1965-66 season of ABC's primetime soap Peyton Place, playing Marion Fowler, the wife of district attorney John Fowler (John Kerr).

Blackman launched her film career after signing with the Hecht-Hill-Lancaster production company and made her big-screen debut in 1959's Good Day for a Hanging. She later revealed that she auditioned twice for the role of Maria in West Side Story and believed she was close to landing the part before Natalie Wood was cast.

Over the years, she also appeared in films including The Great Impostor, Twilight of Honor, Macon County Line and Moonrunners. Television audiences saw her on series such as Perry Mason, Bonanza, I Spy, Gunsmoke and Run for Your Life.

Blackman was married to actor Joby Baker from 1959 to 1961 and later to actor Rockne Tarkington from 1968 to 1970. Her son said she spent her years away from Hollywood gardening and singing locally around Calistoga. She was preceded in death by her son, Rockne Tarkington Jr., who died in 2019.

Amanda Knox Turns Her Wrongful Imprisonment Tragedy Into Comedy Show

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:12pm

Amanda Knox, who became famous after being wrongly accused of murder while studying abroad in Italy, is defending her upcoming comedy show about the tragedy.

The 39-year-old author is set to perform her sold-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. It is set to debut on Friday and run for 11 continuous nights.

Knox was convicted and later acquitted of the murder and sexual assault of her British roommate, MeredithKercher, nearly 20 years ago. Kercher was discovered stabbed to death on November 2, 2007, in her apartment. She lived with a 20-year-old Knox and two Italian women. The case quickly made international headlines.

The show is called Cartwheel, alluding to the story that Knox did cartwheels in the police station after her roommate's death.

According to the show's description, it follows Knox's as she is "juggling motherhood and finally getting around to being furious about the whole wrongful-imprisonment thing. Especially when half the world is telling her to get over it, while the other half still thinks she's guilty. How on earth will she explain it all to her daughter, who is now asking to hear the story of 'Mama Goes to Italy'? And can she protect her from, well, everything, knowing her own mother couldn't protect her no matter how hard she tried?"

Knox and her former Italian boyfriend, RaffaeleSollecito, were acquitted by Italy’s highest court in 2015. Knox spent nearly four years in prison during the investigation, murder trial, and while in appeals court.

Rudy Guede was convicted of murdering Kercher after his DNA was discovered at the crime scene. He left prison in 2021 after serving the majority of his 16-year sentence.

Knox has been in the United States since 2011. She has written two memoirs: Waiting to Be Heard: A Memoir (2013) and Free: My Search for Meaning (2025).

Miss North Carolina USA Stripped of Her Crown

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:06pm

Miss North Carolina USA was stripped of her crown, with the organization saying that Brittany Boltinhouse's conduct does not uphold their "standards and values.”

Boltinhouse was set to represent North Carolina at the 75th annual Miss USA 2026 pageant on Aug. 27 in Miami. However, that honor will now go to first runner-up Myla Hadley.

A statement was released by Blaize Productions, who are the organizers of the North Carolina competition.

"As an organization entrusted with selecting and preparing women to represent our states on the national stage, we must uphold the standards and values that our titleholders agree to embrace when accepting the honor of wearing the crown," the statement read. "After careful consideration, multiple conversations, and in consultation with the Miss USA Organization, A Blaize Productions has made the difficult decision to conclude Brittany Boltinhouse's reign as Miss North Carolina USA 2026.

"This decision was not made lightly. It followed a thorough review of recently surfaced information and was based on the totality of the circumstances and our responsibility to preserve the integrity of the Miss North Carolina USA title and the value of our organization."

Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur issued a separate statement, saying that the organization does "not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, nor language that strips any person of their dignity - whoever they are"

"A title here isn't a trinket. It is a position of trust, extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public," the statement continued. "When that standard is broken, the title cannot continue as though nothing happened."

Brodeur's statement also said the decision was made together with Boltinhouse, adding that "Brittany will soon issue her own statement." She has not yet commented on this as of the time of publishing this article.

1971 Rock Song, With 21-Year-Old Singer of Fleetwood Mac, Is Still a Beloved Hit 55 Years Later

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 6:04pm

Before Fleetwood Mac became synonymous with blockbuster albums like Rumours, the band was exploring a more atmospheric and introspective sound.

One of the finest examples of that era is "Woman of 1000 Years," the opening track on the group's 1971 album Future Games. Sung and written by Danny Kirwan, who was just 21 years old when the album was released, the dreamy rock ballad has become one of the most beloved deep cuts in Fleetwood Mac's extensive catalog.

Kirwan had already established himself as one of the band's most gifted young songwriters.

After joining Fleetwood Mac as a teenager in 1968, he quickly became an essential creative force, contributing a melodic sensibility that helped steer the group beyond its original blues roots.

"I've known [guitarist] Peter [Green] for about a year and a half, and he's always been interested in me and my songs," Kirwan said in a 1969 interview.  "He suggested that I join [Fleetwood Mac] because I was looking for a job. I used to play in the evenings with an unknown group, and during the day I worked in an insurance office.  The double life really didn't work."

On "Woman of 1000 Years," he showcased the band's evolution through shimmering guitars, gentle harmonies, and poetic lyrics that created an almost mystical atmosphere.

The song also reflected an important transition for Fleetwood Mac.

Future Games was the band's first studio album to feature guitarist and songwriter Bob Welch, whose arrival helped usher in a softer, more expansive direction. Alongside Kirwan's songwriting, the album laid much of the musical groundwork that Fleetwood Mac would continue developing throughout the early 1970s.

"He was one of the strangest people I've ever met, very nervous...but he was also a very intuitive musician and at the age of twenty-four, he played with surprising maturity and soulfulness," Welch said of Kirwan in an interview. "There was an idealistic and pure thing about him that was great."

Although "Woman of 1000 Years" was never released as a single, it steadily earned admiration from fans.

Its lush arrangement and Kirwan's understated vocal performance have made it a favorite among listeners who appreciate the band's pre-Rumours work. The song is frequently cited as one of the highlights of Future Games and a showcase for Kirwan's remarkable talent as both a guitarist and composer.

In the years since, Kirwan's contributions to Fleetwood Mac have received growing recognition.

While later incarnations of the band achieved unprecedented commercial success, many longtime fans and critics continue to point to his early-1970s compositions as some of the group's most beautiful and emotionally resonant recordings. "Woman of 1000 Years" remains a shining example of that creative period.

Fifty-five years after its release, "Woman of 1000 Years" continues to enchant listeners with its graceful melody and timeless atmosphere. Featuring a 21 year-old Danny Kirwan at the microphone, the song stands as one of Fleetwood Mac's most treasured early classics and a lasting testament to his extraordinary songwriting.

This OK Go Music Video Broke the Internet in 2006—Nearly 20 Years Later, That Treadmill Routine Still Stops You in Your Tracks

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 5:48pm

It’s been 20 years since OK Go released their now-iconic music video for "Here It Goes Again," featuring the band performing perfectly executed choreography on four treadmills. In honor of the video's 20th anniversary, the band released a series of behind-the-scenes videos explaining how their famous treadmill video was created, along with the inside story on a few mishaps that happened during filming. It turns out the choreography wasn't exactly perfect, but the video transformed what people thought a music video could be. Mesmerizing and well worth a rewatch, OK Go's treadmill video is no less impactful today than it was the first (or 20th) time we watched it in 2006.

@okgo

This week in 2006, we released the Here It Goes Again music video. This video cost less than $5,000 and was shot in 17 very sweaty takes, but it took us to the Grammys, the VMAs, and to the email inboxes of millions of people (you couldn’t share videos to social media back then). 20 years later, we actually now can share this to social media. Here is Part 1. Enjoy!

The music video for "Here It Goes Again" proved that creativity could outshine blockbuster budgets. The same year big-budget videos from Justin Timberlake, the Pussycat Dolls, and Rihanna were released, many directed by A-list Hollywood filmmakers, OK Go created their endlessly watchable treadmill video for under $5,000.

Built around four treadmills the director bought with the hope of reselling after the shoot, and filmed over 17 "sweaty" full takes of the choreography in a single continuous shot, the video became one of the defining pop culture moments of the internet's early days.

At the time, YouTube was still in its infancy, and social media platforms hadn't yet become the engines of viral content they are today. Spread almost entirely through email, blogs, and word of mouth, the music video for "Here It Goes Again" became a viral sensation long before there was such a thing. It became one of MTV's most-played videos and introduced millions of people to OK Go, demonstrating that an unforgettable idea, executed well, can often have more impact than expensive special effects and massive budgets.

Why the Treadmill Video Still Holds Up 20 Years Later

What makes the video for "Here It Goes Again" so brilliant is its simplicity. With nothing more than four treadmills, careful planning, and a backyard set, the band transformed exercise equipment into a dance floor.

The band's behind-the-scenes videos released this week reveal the extraordinary effort and attention to detail that went into creating a performance that appears effortless. Every step had to be perfectly timed, and a single mistake meant starting over. The routine blurred the lines between dance, comedy, athleticism, and visual art to create something that felt entirely new.

A Viral Phenomenon Before Social Media @okgo

Part of what makes the OK Go music video so remarkable today is when it was released. The video arrived years before TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. It became a global phenomenon without the benefit of social media platforms that make sharing videos effortless.

Viewers forwarded the video—mostly through email—because they genuinely wanted others to experience it. Friends emailed it to one another, bloggers wrote about it, and MTV replayed it repeatedly. The video wasn't just clever; it became a cultural moment and a shared entertainment experience.

The Lasting Legacy of "Here It Goes Again"

The video's success helped usher in a new era of creativity that is still celebrated today. No longer did a viral hit require a massive budget. It turned out all you needed was a catchy song, intricate choreography meticulously executed across moving treadmills, and fans who couldn't stop watching, rewatching, and sharing—even 20 years later.

1964 Ballad, Written by The Rolling Stones, Launched a 17-Year-Old Singer’s Career

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 5:38pm

At just 17 years old, Marianne Faithfull sang a song about growing old. Released in the summer of 1964, “As Tears Go By” not only changed her life forever, but it launched two future rock stars into the songwriting hall of fame.

Faithfull burst onto the scene with her gorgeous debut, an orchestral pop-rock ballad that was the perfect vehicle to introduce her crystalline vocals to the world. What few recognized then, and even now, is that the song’s origins are steeped in rock royalty. “As Tears Go By” was written by none other than The Rolling Stones' Mick Jaggerand Keith Richards.

Looking back on the song more than 60 years later, Faithfull’s bittersweet meditation on lost youth is a fascinating piece of rock history, starting with the story behind how Jagger and Richards became involved.

Long before The Rolling Stones were selling out stadiums with fans clamoring for “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint It Black,” and “Sympathy for the Devil,” the band was a rising blues outfit who had built their reputation on covers, yet to establish themselves as songwriters.

That is, until their manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, demanded original material from his guys.

According to rock lore, Loog Oldham locked the future rock stars in a room, demanding they write something original “with brick walls all around it, high windows, and no sex,” Far Outreported. The result was the beautifully somber and reflective “As Tears Go By.” Only problem was, it was too soft for the Stones. It needed a more delicate touch.

“I first met Marianne at a party,” Loog Oldham, who is also credited with writing the song, told Uncut magazine, via Songfacts. “She had an acoustic guitar and was sitting on a radiator looking extraordinary. I went up to her and said, ‘Can you sing?’ She said, ‘Sort of.’ That was enough. I told her to meet me at Olympic the following week.”

But there’s another rock surprise hidden in the song's origins.

Before he became the guitar hero of the legendary Led Zeppelin, a 20-year-old Jimmy Page was still working as one of London’s busiest session guitarists when he played the shimmery 12-string acoustic guitar heard throughout the song. As a complement to the distinctive English horn line arranged by musical director Mike Leander and the overall baroque pop sound, Page’s understated guitar work was the perfect frame for Faithfull’s vocals.

Faithfull’s rock-rich, forlorn ballad was a global smash.

It cracked the Top 10 in the U.K., peaking at No. 9 on the Official Singles Chart, and No. 22 in the U.S. on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. The song fully launched Faithfull into the spotlight. Following her debut, Faithfull released several successful folk and pop records, while crossing over into fashion and film.

As Jagger’s new girlfriend, she also became the center of 1960s counterculture.

“As Tears Go By” worked overtime for its makers, also launching a legendary writing partnership between Jagger and Richards, which became the creative core behind one of the world’s biggest rock bands.

In 1965, the Stones recorded their own version of the song. A more robust, rock-focused take, their rendition was also a hit, reaching No. 6 in the U.S., but the Faithfull original remains the definitive version.

Though it might be one of rock’s greatest ironies—a song about looking back on youth being written by musicians barely out of their teens—"As Tears Go By" continues to resonate as one of pop’s most poignant reflections on growing older.

Sydney Sweeney Goes for Laughs Promoting Her New Smoothie Creation for Charity

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 5:14pm

First, she made waves with that eyebrow-raising American Eagle campaign (remember her "jeans"?).

Now, Sydney Sweeney is making her fans giggle upon revealing a tasty new concoction. And the best part? It's for a good cause.

The Emmy-nominated actress, 28, took to social media on Thursday, August 6 alongside Erewhon to announce their new partnership — in the form of yet another celebrity smoothie collab now offered at the high-end grocery chain.

Featuring MALK Organic Almond Milk, "this blend tastes like a classic blueberry muffin and is topped with Organic Vegan Coconut ‘Bacon,'" reads the caption of the joint Instagram post. Check out the reel below, which shows the Euphoria star humorously fumbling with a blender and moseying through grocery aisles.

View this post on Instagram

Fans have since flooded the post's comments section to show their love and support for Sweeney. "This was funny," wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "America's sweetheart 💕 ❤️ 💖." And it's clear from plenty of other comments, by the way, that lots of fans still think she's "gorgeous."

The Blueberry SYRN also includes Ancient Nutrition Vanilla Bone Broth Protein, Erewhon's Organic A2 Whey Protein, blueberries, acai and almond butter, finished with pitaya and blue spirulina whipped creams.

The post's caption notes that proceeds from the smoothie support Pink Ribbon Good, "a charity chosen by Sydney for its dedication to helping women and families affected by breast and gynecological cancers. Through free healthy meals, transportation to treatment, household essentials, and compassionate community support, Pink Ribbon Good makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing cancer."

Sweeney Addresses Controversial Euphoria Scenes

Sweeney made headlines earlier this year for those racy scenes in season 3 of Euphoria. Her character Cassie engaged in a career on an adult-content platform to pay for her wedding, and numerous scenes saw the actress wearing raunchy outfits and taking extreme photos of herself to post online.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sweeney said the choice for her character made sense because of Cassie's “obsession with being famous” on the adult-centric platform. Find out more here.

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini All Agree on the Best Morning Habit—Here's What It Is

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 5:06pm

Dragging yourself out of bed in the morning isn't always easy when you're feeling all cozy and warm. But a solid morning routine can help you wake up gradually and get ready to face the day. Everyone seems to have their own suggestions for the best morning routine for success, but what works for one person may not be ideal for the next.

For instance, some folks are early risers, and they like to hit the gym first thing in the morning. On the other hand, some people who get a bit of extra sleep perform better physically later in the day. Since we're all different, Parade was curious to know if there's one morning habit we can all benefit from.

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini to share their picks for the best morning habitand explain why it's worth trying. Going into this experiment, we were convinced they would have different opinions, but we were surprised to discover that all three responses were almost identical.

What sort of advice did each of the AI chatbots offer? Find out how our experiment went below.

The AI Showdown: What ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini Recommend as the Best Morning Habit

To give each of the AI chatbots a fair chance, we asked them the exact same question: What is the single best morning habit? Here's how they responded.

ChatGPT’s pick: Getting bright, natural light into your eyes within the first 30 to 60 minutes after waking

When I asked ChatGPT for the best morning habit, the chatbot shared the following response: "Get bright natural light into your eyes within the first 30–60 minutes after waking."

"This habit has an outsized effect because it helps regulate your circadian rhythm—your body’s internal clock," the response read.

Per ChatGPT, a well-aligned circadian rhythm influences a number of elements of your day, including the following, which we've shared directly from the chatbot:

  • Energy and alertness during the day
  • Mood
  • Focus and cognitive performance
  • Hormone timing (including cortisol and melatonin)
  • Sleep quality that night

Lest you think that indoor lighting works the same magic as outdoor lighting, ChatGPT said the key is outdoor light, "even if it's cloudy."

"Many morning habits (exercise, meditation, journaling, reading) are valuable, but they’re easier to maintain when your brain is awake and your energy is stable. Morning light supports the biological systems that make those other habits more sustainable," the chatbot said.

To incorporate the habit into your daily routine, ChatGPT recommended spending five to 10 minutes outside in the morning if it's sunny or 15 to 30 minutes if it's overcast.

"You don’t need to stare at the sun—just be outdoors with your eyes open (without sunglasses if it’s comfortable and safe)," the chatbot stated.

Claude's pick: Getting sunlight exposure within 30 to 60 minutes of waking

Claude offered a response that was very similar to ChatGPT and said "getting sunlight exposure within 30–60 minutes of waking, ideally combined with some movement," is the best morning habit.

Claude outlined the following benefits of morning sunlight, which we've shared directly from the chatbot:

  • It anchors your circadian rhythm. Morning light exposure sets your internal clock, which improves nighttime sleep quality—and good sleep is upstream of almost everything else (energy, mood, focus, appetite regulation).
  • It boosts alertness naturally. Light exposure triggers cortisol and suppresses melatonin at the right time, so you feel awake without needing caffeine to force it.
  • It's low-effort and hard to mess up. Unlike habits requiring willpower (meditation, cold showers, complex routines), stepping outside for 10 minutes is simple enough to actually stick.

Claude also provided the following practical notes, which we've shared directly from the chatbot:

  • You don't need direct sun or to stare at it—even outdoor light on a cloudy day is far brighter than indoor lighting.
  • Pairing it with a short walk adds mild cardiovascular benefit and can improve mood via light movement.
  • Consistency matters more than duration—doing it daily at roughly the same time is more valuable than an occasional long session.
Gemini's pick: Getting natural sunlight in your eyes within the first hour of waking

Gemini was right in line with ChatGPT and Claude and shared the following response when I asked for the best morning habit: "getting natural sunlight in your eyes within the first hour of waking."

Gemini called morning sunlight "the ultimate keystone habit" for the following reasons, which we've shared directly from the chatbot:

  • Anchors Your Circadian Rhythm: Exposure to bright natural light signals to your brain
that it is time to be alert. This sets your body's internal clock for the rest of the day.
  • Boosts Energy and Mood: It triggers a healthy, natural release of cortisol (the "wake up" hormone) and promotes dopamine production, which enhances mood, focus, and motivation.
  • Improves Nighttime Sleep: The morning light signal starts a biological timer in your body for melatonin production, making it significantly easier to fall asleep 14–16 hours later.

Gemini shared the following steps for implementing a circadian rhythm morning routine that incorporates morning light, which we've shared directly from the chatbot:

  1. Step Outside: Aim for 5–10 minutes on a clear, sunny day, or 15–20 minutes on an
overcast day. Looking out a window is far less effective, as glass filters out the specific
wavelengths of light your brain needs.
  2. Ditch the Sunglasses: Let the light reach your eyes directly (though you should never
    stare directly at the sun).

Unsplash

Why the Silicon Valley Giants Agreed: The Importance of Morning Sunlight

This probably isn't the first time you've been told that getting exposure to the sun in the morning is beneficial, and it won't be the last. That's because it's one of those science-backed morning habits with extensive research that has proven time and time again that starting your morning with a dose of sunlight can help improve your day in several ways.

BMC Public Health previously published a study titled, "The role of sunlight in sleep regulation: analysis of morning, evening and late exposure." It concluded that morning sunlight exposure "influences the regulation of the sleep midpoint and overall sleep quality."

As Dr. Sunjya Schweig, MD, previously told Parade, "Morning sunlight can be one of the most powerful ways to improve morning energy. Light is the main signal that sets the body’s internal clock. When bright light enters the eyes in the morning, it triggers the melanopsin receptor and tells the brain that the day has started. This helps suppress melatonin, increase alertness and organize the timing of hormones and sleep-wake rhythms."

Another Great Morning Habit to Incorporate Into Your Routine

Gemini was the only chatbot to share a runner-up for the best morning routine and offered the following suggestion: immediate hydration.

As Parade has previously shared with "5 Things To Do Before 10 a.m. To Have More Energy, According to Doctors," turning to water to get your dose of morning hydration vs. caffeine is a simple yet effective way to jumpstart your day.

Gemini had similar insight, sharing, "If stepping outside right away is not an option, drinking a large glass of water (16–20 oz) is a close second. Your body loses a significant amount of water overnight through respiration and sweat. Rehydrating the moment you wake up kickstarts your metabolism, fuels your brain function, and combats the lethargy often mistaken for simple tiredness."

How To ‘Habit Stack’ Your Perfect Morning (Without Burnout)

The busier we get, the more multitasking becomes necessary. If you want to reap the benefits of several morning habits for mental clarity, consider James Clear's habit stacking method.

Clear is the bestselling author of Atomic Habits and specializes in habits, decision making and continuous improvement.

"When it comes to building new habits, you can use the connectedness of behavior to your advantage. One of the best ways to build a new habit is to identify a current habit you already do each day and then stack your new behavior on top. This is called habit stacking," his website reads. "Habit stacking is a special form of an implementation intention. Rather than pairing your new habit with a particular time and location, you pair it with a current habit."

For instance, you can anchor an AI-recommended habit to an existing one to enhance your morning routine. If you already start every morning with a glass of water, you can walk outside and drink it in the sunlight. This way, you connect the two habits, making it easier to stick to them.

1975 Rock Song, Covered by Linda Ronstadt, Is Still a Motivational Hit 51 Years Later

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 5:02pm

Every now and then a song comes along that is so well written that it seems destined to find success more than once.

That was certainly the case with "When Will I Be Loved," the beloved rock classic written by Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers. First released in 1960, the song found an entirely new audience when Linda Ronstadt recorded it in 1975, transforming the decades-old favorite into one of the biggest hits of her career.

Phil Everly wrote the song during the height of The Everly Brothers' early success.

Built around a memorable melody and lyrics about refusing to settle for disappointment, "When Will I Be Loved" blended heartbreak with resilience. While the narrator longs to find lasting love, the song's message of perseverance and self-worth has resonated with generations of listeners, giving it an uplifting quality that extends beyond a traditional breakup ballad.

Ronstadt recognized that timeless appeal.

She recorded "When Will I Be Loved" for her breakthrough album Heart Like a Wheel, bringing a brighter, country-rock energy to the familiar tune. Her soaring vocal performance and polished arrangement respected the original while giving it a distinctly 1970s sound that introduced the song to millions of new listeners.

Her hard work paid off.

Released as a single in 1975, Ronstadt's version climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, becoming one of the biggest crossover hits of her career. The success helped solidify Heart Like a Wheel as the album that transformed Ronstadt into one of the decade's biggest stars.

"I'd always loved those country songs," Ronstadt told NPR in 2019. "And I could play them on the guitar because they were three chords. And I'd like singing them. And they were good harmonies. And they were great sentiment. So - and, again, I had this manager that said, oh, that's too country for rock and too rock for country. You'll never sell any records, you know? But I liked those songs, so I sang them."

"When Will I Be Loved" has remained a cornerstone of her catalog ever since.

Although The Everly Brothers' original remains a rock and roll classic, Ronstadt's rendition became equally beloved, earning regular airplay on classic rock, country, and oldies radio. It also demonstrated her remarkable ability to reinterpret great songs while making them entirely her own.

"I wanted to be a success and being successful means that I have more freedom with the music, that I can have a bigger budget for my albums, that I can afford to hire better musicians who I really like to play with, and that I can become a better singer as a result of playing with really good musicians," Ronstadt told Rolling Stone in 1978. "And the more successful I am on the road then the better show we can present."

More than 50 years after Linda Ronstadt’s version topped the charts, "When Will I Be Loved" continues to inspire listeners with its message of resilience and hope. What Phil Everly originally wrote for The Everly Brothers ultimately became a motivational hit for another generation, proving that truly great songs can transcend both time and genre.

Perez Hilton's Family Shares New Details About the Moments Leading Up to His Livestream

Thu, 08/06/2026 - 4:56pm

Perez Hilton's family revealed what happened in the moments that led up to his disturbing livestream on Tuesday, August 4.

As Parade previously reported, Hilton was rushed to the hospital after authorities were contacted numerous times regarding Hilton appearing naked on TikTok Live and appearing to harm himself with a knife.

While initial reports indicated that the internet personality was alone in his Miami home at the time, his family is now revealing that was not the case.

"The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family," a statement shared on Thursday, August 6, read. "Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece, and sister were inside the home."

According to the family, "When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma."

Hilton is the father of three children — son Mario III, 13, daughter Mia Alma, 11, and daughter Mayte Amor, 8 — whom he welcomed via surrogate.

"Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy," the statement continued. "Please allow his children the privacy and space they need during this unimaginably difficult time."
