7 'Unexpected' Personality Traits of People Who Always Arrive Early, Psychologist Says
“Why am I always early?” This is a question you might ask yourself, especially in certain situations, such as showing up at a birthday party before others arrive and attempting to make awkward small talk, or trying to entertain yourself at the airport when your departure isn’t for another two hours.
One could argue that there are two kinds of people in this world: people who arrive early and people who arrive late. It’s almost like a personality test, in which we might (consciously or subconsciously) assume something about a person depending on whether they're an early bird or habitually late. For example, if you’re always early, you might think that someone who’s always late is being rude or unable to manage their time. If you’re always late, you might think people who are always early are too anxious or care way too much.
But which assumptions about early arrivers might actually have some truth to them? Experts agree that being early can reveal something about your character, but what? Plus, when is getting everywhere early a sign of punctuality rather than anticipatory anxiety or hypervigilance? Ahead, a psychologist shares seven unexpected traits of people who always arrive early, and her take on those questions and the psychology of punctuality.

What Being Early Reveals About Your CharacterAn early arrival reflects someone’s relationship with three things: responsibility, predictability and consideration for others, says Dr. Jenny Martin, PsyD, a clinical psychologist and the founder of Gemstone Wellness, a group practice in Chicago.
“Sometimes punctuality is just treated like a personality trait, but usually it reveals a deeper value, such as respect for other people’s time, comfort when being prepared and a preference for reducing unnecessary stress,” she explains.
Further, that can come from different motivations, such as being organized and thoughtful, or anxious and uncomfortable.

7 Unexpected Traits of People Who Always Arrive Early, According to a PsychologistLet’s dive in a bit more and get specific. Dr. Martin shares and explains seven personality traits of punctual people.
1. They think several steps aheadThese individuals are ahead of the game. They like to know what to expect and prepare for it, whether it’s traffic or parking difficulties.
“People who consistently get places early tend to mentally anticipate challenges before they happen,” Dr. Martin says. “This future-oriented thinking can make them appear especially dependable.”
2. They like predictabilityRunning late can be stressful, and it shortens the time someone has to adjust to a new setting. People who arrive early are especially uninterested in that.
“Arriving ahead of schedule creates a sense of control, allowing them to settle into an environment before other variables are introduced,” Dr. Martin shares. “[They] prefer reducing uncertainty wherever possible.”
3. They prepare before they performPreparation can be another way to create a sense of control.
“Early arrivers tend to be the people that observe, gather thoughts and orient themselves before rushing into meetings, events or conversations,” Dr. Martin states.
4. They fear disappointing othersEmpathy and consideration come into play here, too.
“People who arrive early often fear that being late will result in others being frustrated or upset,” Dr. Martin explains. “That worry, even if unconscious, can be a strong motivator to be extremely punctual.”
5. They are sensitive to social dynamicsOn that note, early arrivers are often sensitive to other people’s feelings and perceptions, as well as how their actions affect others.
“They are often particularly attuned to social expectations and want others to perceive them as dependable and trustworthy,” Dr. Martin says.
6. They have a strong internal clockLots of alarms and reminders aren’t necessarily needed for these individuals.
“They tend to have a heightened awareness of how long tasks take, and where in time it is in the day,” Dr. Martin shares.
7. They're more self-reflective than people thinkPunctuality serves in many ways, including its allowance for observation and processing.
“This time can be used to reflect on goals or regulate emotions, or assess how they're feeling before beginning the next task,” Dr. Martin notes.

When Is ‘Being Early’ Actually Hypervigilance in Disguise? As mentioned, arriving at places early can stem from more positive traits—such as consideration for others and empathy—as well as more unpleasant ones, such as anxiety. It can even be a sign of hypervigilance, which basically means always being “on alert” for potential problems. When is the latter the case?
“Being early is actually hypervigilance when the motivation shifts from preparation [to] threat avoidance,” Dr. Martin explains. “When someone is operating from a place of fear rather than security, it is a strong sign that anxiety is an underlying factor.”
That can stem from childhood experiences—even unresolved childhood trauma—or hypervigilance in childhood.
To determine if hypervigilance or anxiety is present for you or someone else, she encourages asking this question: “How would this person feel if they were running five minutes late?” If the answer is extreme panic, shame or fear, then anxiety is likely at the root.

Is Your Punctuality a Preference or an Anxiety Response?Sometimes, punctuality can feel like “just a preference” when it’s really rooted in anxiety. But is that always the case?
According to Dr. Martin, punctuality can be a preference, anxiety or a bit of both.
“Some people healthily prefer punctuality, as it allows them to regulate their nervous system and prepare for an event with a sense of control,” she explains. “For others, punctuality functions as an anxiety management strategy to avoid intensely distressing feelings.”
It’s not always an “either/or” situation, though. She adds that some people may like to be punctual out of respect and conscientiousness, but have moments of anxiety that drive their punctuality. Knowing which one(s) your timeliness stems from is what’s key.

Last Surviving Cast Member of Groundbreaking '70s Sitcom Turns 79
Sally Struthers turns 79 on July 28, marking a milestone for one of television's most beloved and influential sitcoms. Best known for playing Gloria Stivic on All in the Family, Struthers is now the last surviving main cast member of the groundbreaking series that helped redefine what network television could be.
Premiering in 1971, All in the Family starred Carroll O'Connor as outspoken patriarch Archie Bunker, Jean Stapleton as his kindhearted wife Edith, Rob Reiner as son-in-law Michael "Meathead" Stivic and Struthers as their daughter Gloria. Today, Struthers is the only surviving member of that quartet. O'Connor died in 2001 at age 76, Stapleton died in 2013 at age 90, and Reiner was tragically killed in December 2025 at age 78 alongside his wife Michele in a homicide for which their son Nick Reiner has been charged.
The Norman Lear-created sitcom tackled race, politics, feminism and generational conflict with a boldness that was virtually unheard of on television at the time, becoming one of the defining shows of the decade. It topped the Nielsen ratings for five consecutive seasons from 1971 through 1976, the first television series ever to accomplish that feat.
Struthers' journey to the iconic role almost never happened.
Before landing All in the Family, she was a performer onThe Tim Conway Comedy Hour. But executives thought the joke of having Struthers as the only dancer on Tim Conway made the show look "cheap" and they fired her.
"The suits in New York said that I made the show look cheap," Struthers recalled in a 2012 interview with Newsday. "And the producer said, 'That's the whole point, we're trying to make it look like the Conway show doesn't have a budget, has no money, and so that's why there's only one Tim Conway dancer instead of a line of them like the June Taylor Dancers on The Jackie Gleason Show, and there's only one musician, and they can't even afford an instrument for him, so he's standing at a music stand, humming the opening theme song.'
"That's funny! And the suits said, 'No, it makes the show look cheap.' So they let me, the Tim Conway dancer, go. And if they hadn't done that, I wouldn't have been free to read for All in the Family."
As Gloria, Struthers often found herself caught between her father's old-school worldview and her husband's progressive ideals, helping fuel many of the show's funniest and most memorable debates. Her performance earned five Primetime Emmy nominations and two wins for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, along with four Golden Globe nominations.
Although Struthers later admitted she sometimes wished Gloria's character had evolved more quickly and even unsuccessfully tried to leave the series during its run, she has also spoken warmly about the lasting impact of the show and the opportunity it gave her, including telling Fox News about the father-daughter relationship she developed off-screen with her on-screen father O'Connor.
Following All in the Family, Struthers reprised Gloria on both Archie Bunker's Place and the spin-off Gloria. She went on to build a remarkably versatile career, appearing on Broadway and in national touring productions, voicing characters in animated favorites and winning over a new generation of fans as Babette Dell on Gilmore Girls. Since 2024, she's also appeared as Virginia Foldau on Netflix's A Man on the Inside.
Nearly 50 years after All in the Family ended its original run, the show's influence can still be felt across television, and Struthers remains a living connection to one of the medium's most groundbreaking ensembles. As the last surviving member of the sitcom's core cast, her legacy is inseparable from a series that forever changed the American family comedy.

1973 One-Day Rock Festival Outdrew Woodstock With Over 600,000 Fans, yet Became the Decade's Most Forgotten Concert
On July 28, 1973, an estimated 600,000 music fans descended on a racetrack in upstate New York for one of the biggest concerts the country had ever seen.
The event, Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, drew roughly 50 percent more people than Woodstock had four years earlier, yet today it is largely forgotten.
The one-day festival, held at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway, featured just three acts: the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band and The Band. Promoters sold about 150,000 tickets in advance, but so many more people turned up that the gates effectively opened to everyone, turning it into a colossal free concert. The bands even played their July 27 soundchecks as impromptu sets for the tens of thousands already on the grounds.
Bigger Than WoodstockThe crowd was so enormous it earned a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a pop festival, a title it held for years. Fans camped in fields and clogged highways for miles, part of the wave of counterculture gatherings that defined the era. The music peaked when all three bands united for a sprawling encore that ran through "Not Fade Away," "Mountain Jam" and "Johnny B. Goode."

The Forgotten GiantDespite outdrawing Woodstock, Watkins Glen never became the cultural touchstone its predecessor did. Its world record was eventually broken, and its one perfect day faded into rock footnotes rather than legend. More than five decades later, it remains one of the largest concerts in American history that most people have never heard of.
156-Year-Old Moisturizer, Named One of the Best Beauty Products Ever Made, Remains a Multi-Purpose Staple Over 15 Decades Later
VaselineHealing Jelly Stick, a beauty and skincare essential launched in 1870 in its original form, remains a top-rated product over 15 decades later. The beloved item was ranked among the best beauty products of all time on a list of 40 of the greatest releases ever by Elle.
Published in July 2025, the lineup comprises several heavy-hitters across skincare, makeup, and haircare, with the most iconic picks chosen by the publication's beauty editors. "We test dozens of products a week—and hundreds, if not thousands, of products each year. Still, even though we are constantly trying the latest and greatest and switching up our routines, there are some beauty buys we’ll never stop going back to," the outlet explained.
Including Vaseline's All-Over Body Balm Healing Jelly Stick, which retails for a super cheap under $7 per 1.4-ounce tube, is an obvious choice given its iconic reputation: the popular product is rated 4.7/5 stars with over 4K Google reviews. Officially, the longtime cult favorite is described as a convenient jelly stick moisturizer for dry skin that delivers targeted healing for hard-to-reach spots. “This portable Jelly Stick moisturizer is perfect to prevent dryness and help heal dry, irritated, or cracked skin, including on hands, legs, arms and heels,” the product listing states.
Elle dubbed the must-have the "all-in-one beauty fixer" (Vaseline launched its first-ever product in 1870), adding that the iconic buy has become a staple among shoppers over time due to its multi-purpose abilities: "it also works as a subtle highlighter or as a primer under perfume to extend the longevity of a scent."
View this post on InstagramBeauty/fashion industry professionals and celebrities alike have long sung its praises, and it has remained in most households for generations (you probably have a jar in your bathroom cabinet right now). Users claim it's "helpful starting from the first use," is "effective in keeping skin hydrated and protected," and is an "inexpensive gem."
One person couldn't help but rave: “The texture is smooth and non-greasy, making it easy to apply and absorb into my skin. I have noticed a significant improvement in the hydration and softness of my skin since using this product. I also appreciate that it is fragrance-free, which is perfect for those with sensitive skin like myself. Overall, I highly recommend Vaseline products for anyone looking for a reliable and effective skincare solution.”
"This moisture stick (AKA the largest chapstick I’ll ever own) is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made! It’s huge so I won’t lose it, but also it’s been phenomenal for both chapped lips and dry spots, mostly on my face," another wrote of their experience with the product.
As with most products, however, there are mixed reviews. Some claim it doesn’t live up to the hype, with others reporting that it "does not hydrate anything on your body or make anything better," "is so greasy," "is too thin to provide protection," and has an unpleasant, "grainy" texture.
Providing more insight into what went into choosing which favorites made the final cut on the roundup, Elle added, "Some have stood the test of time. Some are newer formulas we feel sure will go the distance. Either way, these are our ride-or-dies. Our holy grails. Our forever favorites."

1977 Eagles Masterpiece, Which Scared Every Kid Who Heard It, Remains Rock's Greatest Unsolved Mystery
Eagles' "Hotel California" peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1977 and has never left classic rock radio. Don Henley has said it's about the dark underbelly of the American dream. The band has given different answers at different times. In 2026, the Eagles completed their final Sphere shows in Las Vegas, and "Hotel California" was the star every night. Nobody still agrees what it means. Every kid who heard it on the way to school knew something was off before they could explain what.
The opening guitar is warm and inviting. The rhythm pulls you in. And somewhere in the first verse, the uneasiness arrives. "Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends." "They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast." Children felt the wrongness before they understood the words. They were picking up something real.
The song didn't start in a recording studio. Don Felder was sitting on the couch at a rented Malibu beach house in 1976 when the chord progression came to him. He hurried to the back bedroom and recorded a demo using a Rhythm Ace drum machine and a 12-string guitar on a four-track deck. He gave the cassette to DonHenley and GlennFrey. It was one of 15 demo songs he'd made for the album. Felder said: "Truthfully, at the time, Hotel California was just another song on the cassette. I didn't necessarily think it was the best song."
Henley drove around Los Angeles by himself listening to the cassette. He called the riff "that one that sounds like Mexican reggae." Joe Walsh joined the Eagles specifically for this album. When the band recorded the guitar solos in Miami, Felder realized he'd left the original cassette recording back in Malibu. He had to call his housekeeper, have her find it and play it into the phone so he could learn the parts note for note. The most famous guitar outro in classic rock was learned from a cassette that a housekeeper played over the phone.
Then they had to decide what the song meant. That decision has never been fully resolved.
Henley's most consistent explanation is that the hotel is about America itself: the promise of a paradise that turns into a trap. "It's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America," he said, "which is something we knew about." The Eagles weren't just observing excess. They were describing something they'd experienced.
Then came the satanism rumors. Anton LaVey of the Church of Satan was rumored to appear on the album cover's balcony. The Eagles denied it. The drug addiction interpretation arrived next. The most analyzed line in the song is also its simplest: "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." Henley says it refers to the inescapable reality of the American dream. Others hear addiction. Others hear something darker. The line works because all three readings are simultaneously possible.
Fifty Years Later It's Still Playing and Still UnexplainedIn March 2026, the Eagles completed their final Sphere Las Vegas residency shows with "Hotel California" as the centerpiece of every performance. A dedicated SiriusXM Hotel California channel aired through June 5, 2026, on channel 105 featuring Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Deacon Frey and Vince Gill. An Australian tribute tour performing Hotel California in its entirety was announced in March 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary.
Hotel California is certified 26 times Platinum. It's the third best-selling album in US history. Their greatest hits and their greatest mystery are separated by one chart position. The 50th anniversary arrives in 2027. Don Felder's unforgettable cassette riff is still the first thing you hear and the last thing you'll ever forget.
Nobody can agree what it means.
Some songs are just like that.

Quote of the Day: Jacqueline Kennedy on Finding Hope for the Future by Caring for the Past
Few First Ladies have left a legacy as enduring as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Admired around the world for her elegance, intelligence and quiet strength, she redefined the role of First Lady while devoting her life to public service, literature, the arts, and historic preservation. More than three decades after her death, she remains a symbol of grace, resilience and civic responsibility.
Born on July 28, 1929, in Southampton, New York, Jacqueline Bouvier attended Vassar College before graduating from George Washington University in 1951. She later began her journalism career as a photographer and columnist for the Washington Times-Herald, where she became known for her "Inquiring Camera Girl" column. Her marriage to future President John F. Kennedy in 1953 made her one of the most recognizable women in the world, but it was her own intellect, curiosity and commitment to preserving America's cultural heritage that ultimately defined her remarkable life.
As First Lady, Kennedy led a landmark historic restoration of the White House, transforming it into a living museum of American history and inspiring millions of Americans to appreciate the nation's cultural treasures. She helped establish the White House Historical Association, created a permanent curator position and worked to ensure that the residence reflected the history and artistry of the United States.
After President Kennedy's assassination in 1963, she displayed incredible grace in the face of unimaginable tragedy. In her landmark interview with Life magazine journalist Theodore H. White, she helped shape her husband's legacy by comparing his presidency to Camelot, recalling the lyric, "Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot."
Her extraordinary ability to bring comfort and strength during the nation’s darkest hours was remembered by Senator Ted Kennedy during his eulogy for his sister-in-law in 1994. “And then, during those four endless days in 1963, she held us together as a family and a country,” he said. “In large part because of her, we could grieve and then go on. She lifted us up, and in the doubt and darkness, she gave her fellow citizens back their pride as Americans. She was then 34 years old."
Rather than retreating from public life, Kennedy continued a life devoted to service. She became a highly respected book editor, first at Viking Press and later at Doubleday, where she championed acclaimed authors, collaborated with some of the publishing world's most respected writers and helped bring important books to readers for nearly two decades.
She also became one of America's leading preservationists, playing an instrumental role in the successful campaign to save New York City's Grand Central Terminal from a redevelopment plan that threatened one of the nation's greatest architectural treasures. For Kennedy, preserving history was never simply about protecting old buildings. In a 1975 letter urging New York City officials to save Grand Central Terminal, she wrote, "If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future?" It was a philosophy she lived every day—one rooted in the belief that history gives purpose to the future.
Her devotion to excellence also left a lasting impression on those who knew her best. As her daughter, Caroline Kennedy, said, "My mother believed that if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well."
That lifelong commitment to service, culture and preserving what mattered most makes Jacqueline Kennedy, on the anniversary of her birth, the perfect choice for today's inspiring words.
Related: Quote of the Day: Historian Howard Zinn on Hope in Hard Times
Quote of the Day by Jacqueline Kennedy"If we don't care about our past, we can't have very much hope for our future."
Jacqueline Kennedy spoke these memorable words during a 1975 press conference inside Grand Central Terminal's famous Oyster Bar as preservationists fought to save the historic station from a proposed development that would have dramatically altered one of New York City's greatest architectural treasures.
She followed the quote with an equally inspiring call to action: "We've all heard that it's too late, or that it has to happen, that it's inevitable. But I don't think that's true. Because I think if there is a great effort, even if it's the eleventh hour, then you can succeed—and I know that's what we'll do."
Her optimism proved well founded. Three years later, in 1978, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld New York City's landmark preservation law in the historic Penn Central Transportation Co. v. New York City decision. The ruling ensured that Grand Central Terminal would remain one of Manhattan's architectural jewels while establishing an important precedent for protecting historic landmarks across the United States.
The Deeper Meaning of Jacqueline Kennedy's QuoteAlthough Kennedy was speaking specifically about saving Grand Central Terminal, her words carry a timeless lesson that extends far beyond a single building.
She understood that history is more than something we remember. It is something that shapes our identity. Historic buildings, works of art, books and traditions connect us to the people who came before us and remind us of the values worth preserving. Without those connections, it becomes much harder to understand who we are or where we're going.
Kennedy's quote also reminds us that meaningful change is possible, even when success seems unlikely. During the battle to save Grand Central, many believed the station's fate had already been decided. But she rejected that kind of defeatist thinking. Kennedy believed that determined people, united by a common purpose, could still change the course of history. Even at what she called "the eleventh hour."
On a personal level, her words encourage us to also value our own pasts. The people who shaped us, the obstacles we've overcome and the lessons we've learned provide the foundation for the future we hope to build.
More than 50 years after Jacqueline Kennedy first spoke these words, they continue to resonate because they remind us that preserving the past is not about resisting progress. It is about honoring the people, places and principles that inspire us to build a better future. In a rapidly changing world, her message remains as relevant and as hopeful as ever.
More quotes from Jacqueline Kennedy"We should all do something to right the wrongs that we see and not just complain about them."
"I want to live my life, not record it."
"All the changes in the world, for good or evil, were first brought about by words."
"Mr. Kennedy always said, you can count your friends in 5 fingers of one hand, you're lucky. And I have the friends I always knew I'd have."

Summer decor doesn’t get much sweeter than a wreath covered in strawberries. Kohl’s has the Celebrate Together Summer Strawberry Botanical Artificial Wreath marked down from $50 to $25 right now, and using the code GOSAVE20 drops it to just $20. It features bright red berries, white flowers, and leafy greenery for a cheerful look that effortlessly adds a splash of color to your home.
The wreath is made with styrofoam strawberries, polyester flowers, plastic rattan, and a jute rope for hanging. It weighs just over 1 pound, comes fully assembled, and already has a loop attached, so there’s no extra setup involved. It’s also exclusively designed for indoor use.
Celebrate Together Summer Strawberry Botanical Artificial Wreath, $20 (was $50) at Kohl’s Shop at Kohl'sThis wreath would look especially cute in a kitchen or entryway, but you could also hang it on a pantry door or dining room wall. You could even lay it flat on a table and place a bowl, vase, or battery-operated candle in the center for a summery centerpiece. Alternatively, you could pair it with gingham linens, red glassware, or a bowl of fresh fruit to create a fun picnic-inspired setup.
One shopper said it’s “simply strawberry perfection,” and wrote, “I was absolutely blown away by how well this is made and how lovely this wreath is. It is even nicer than I could have ever imagined and so well made.” Others described it as “very colorful and pretty,” with some calling it “adorable” and “perfect for summer.” Many people also mentioned receiving plenty of compliments on it.

You can also change the look without permanently altering it. Some shoppers added patriotic bows, while others painted tiny seeds onto the strawberries to make the fruit look more realistic. A removable gingham, yellow, or pink ribbon could also help it match the rest of your decor and make it easy to refresh throughout the season.
Since Kohl’s lists the wreath for indoor use, it’s best for an interior door or wall rather than an exposed front entrance. A few reviewers said the strawberries loosened in very hot conditions, which is another reason to keep it away from direct heat and sun.

Elizabeth Hurley Reveals What She Really Thought of Miley Cyrus Before Dating Billy Ray
Elizabeth Hurley reveals her first impression of Miley Cyrus.
The 61-year-old actress revealed on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that she thought she would get along with Cyrus before she was romantically involved with her father, BillyRay Cyrus.
“She’s adorable,” the actress shared during a recent appearance on the radio show.
“I’ve been lucky to meet some of his kids and they seem fabulous,” Hurley said.
Billy Ray has six children. He shares Christopher Cody Cyrus with KristinLuckey. His five other children, NoahCyrus, Miley Cyrus, TraceCyrus, BrandiCyrus, and BraisonCyrus, were with his ex-wife, TishCyrus.
Cohen asked Hurley if she and the Disney album had met before she started Billy Ray.
“No, I’d never met her, but my son used to love Hannah Montana, so he loved Father Montana,” she said. The sitcom ran between 2006 and 2011 for a total of four seasons.
“He loved Miley too, so I always knew who she was, and when he was a young teen, he used to love all her music.”
The Bedazzled actress has one child, DamianHurley, whom she shares with businessman SteveBing.
“I used to have to watch her music videos, like ‘Wrecking Ball,’ a zillion times with him, so we were very familiar with who she was, and I knew I was going to like her and I do like her,” Hurley shared.
Hurley and Billy Ray confirmed their relationship with a shared Instagram post in April 2025. They posted a photo of them kissing on Easter. The couple first met while filming a Christmas movie in 2022.
Miley Cyrus shared her thoughts about seeing her parents date other people in an interview with The New York Times.
“I think timing is everything. As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents — because my mom really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard,” she shared.
“But now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing. I’m being an adult about it.”

2007 Faith Hill Concert Moment Had Her Delivering a Blunt Message to a Fan
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have spent decades performing together, but one 2007 concert became memorable for a reason that had nothing to do with the music.
During a July 28, 2007, stop of the couple’s Soul2Soul II Tour at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana, McGraw, 59, was finishing his set when a female fan reached toward him as he walked between the stage and barricade, greeting concertgoers. According to reports at the time, the woman grabbed McGraw in the crotch area.
McGraw, then 40, reportedly reprimanded the woman before leaving the area. But the situation wasn't over.
When McGraw and Hill, 58, returned for the encore, Hill addressed the fan from the stage.
"Someone needs to teach you some class, my friend," Hill said, according to CBS News and The Hollywood Reporter. She then made it clear that the behavior had crossed a line, adding,
"That’s very disrespectful."
The moment was caught on video and quickly spread online. At the time, viral videos were still a relatively new phenomenon, but the footage made its way across websites and YouTube almost immediately.
"Within an hour, that video made it around the world," C.J. Clement, a Lafayette radio host, said at the time.
The incident also sparked plenty of conversation about where the line should be drawn when fans interact with performers.
Hill later explained that she hadn't actually witnessed the initial grab. McGraw found her backstage before the pair were scheduled to perform their final segment and told her what had happened. According to Hill, he was "livid" and "red and fuming."
At first, Hill said she decided not to give the fan any additional attention.
But that changed when she saw the woman again.
During a September 2007 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Hill explained that the woman gave her a look that made her feel as though the fan believed there was nothing Hill could do about what had happened. That, Hill said, changed her mind.
"I’m from Mississippi, so what I really wanted to do is kick her you-know-what," Hill said on the show. She also described the incident as sexual harassment and questioned how people would react if the genders were reversed.
The confrontation became one of the more talked-about moments from the couple’s 2007 Soul2Soul II Tour, which was a major success.
’80s Glam Metal Icon Forced to Postpone 2026 Tour
Bret Michaels, the iconic vocalist of the 1980s glam metal band Poison, delivered an unexpected change to his solo concert tour.
Following surgery last week amid hisLive & Amplified 2026 Tour, the 63-year-old musician was forced to put his upcoming schedule on hold to help him recover.
In a social media post, the rock star’s team updated fans on Michaels’ current health status following his surgery to remove the kidney stone after he experienced “intense” pain that he had been dealing with for a whole week.
However, as he focuses on his recovery, he has been advised to rest for “three to four weeks,” forcing him to postpone his remaining shows in July and August.
“Due to the nature of Michaels’ post-operative condition and underlying health factors (diabetes and lower back compression fracture), he is restricted from performing for the next 3 to 4 weeks and only prescribed light physical activity as part of his recovery,” the post reads.

Since the procedure required doctors to insert a small tube between his kidney and bladder, which can cause ongoing internal irritation, the singer is expected to experience discomfort and swelling that would make performing unsafe.
“The physical demands of Bret’s high-intensity live performances exacerbate these symptoms. Strenuous physical exertion carries a high risk of intense pain spikes, gross hematuria, and acute stent displacement, which would require immediate medical intervention,” the statement continued, including a message from Michaels’ physician, Dr. Abby Borhan, who noted, “He must strictly refrain from all live performances until we re-evaluate his condition in 3 to 4 weeks to determine when he can safely resume touring.”
As for the award-winning vocalist, he expressed his deep gratitude to the medical team, his family, his band, his crew and fans for “understanding.”
Moreover, Michaels also hinted at getting back on the road soon while promising high-energy performances.
“I’m forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career, and truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding and, if all goes well, will hit the road late August back to delivering 1000% energy, intensity and truly nothing but a good time,” he said.
Earlier this month, the "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" hitmaker continued his solo Live & Amplified 2026 Tour and completed three shows in Charleston, West Virginia on July 10, followed by a July 11 concert in Grantville, Pennsylvania and a private performance for military heroes and families in Spokane, Washington on July 18.

“The operation has been done and is complete,” Michaels said in a July 22 Facebook post. “I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health.”
As for his upcoming schedule, the iconic singer was originally slated to perform two more shows in July followed by a nine-date run in August.
Meanwhile, Michaels' team encouraged fans to visit BretMichaels.com and follow his official social media accounts for the latest tour information and updates.
