The Artist Who Helped Give Neil Gaiman's Sandman Its Soul Has Died at 63

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 9:08am

Sam Kieth, the comic book creator best known for The Maxx and for helping launch Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, died March 15, 2026. He was 63. The cause was Lewy body dementia, a degenerative disease described as a combination of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Kieth was born January 11, 1963, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began his career as a teenager, with his earliest notable work as inker on Matt Wagner's Mage: The Hero Discovered. By the late 1980s, he had landed at DC Comics, where his trajectory would take a turn that altered comics history.

In 1989, Kieth helped co-create Sandmanwith Neil Gaiman and penciled the first five issues. The series went on to become one of the most celebrated runs in comics, later adapted into a Netflixtelevision series. His early issues helped establish the eerie, dreamlike tone that would become a hallmark of the series. Kieth eventually stepped away from Sandman, later saying in interviews that the book's direction wasn't the right fit for him, in a candor that endeared him to fans.

Around that same period, he co-created the original graphic novel Epicurus the Sage with William Messner-Loebs, and later produced a run of Wolverine stories in Marvel ComicsPresentsthat became a bestseller.

It was his own creation, though, that defined him. In 1993, Kieth launched The Maxx at Image Comics, scripted by Messner-Loebs. The series followed a purple-clad homeless man living in a cardboard box who inhabits two realities, struggling with homelessness and mental health in the real world, while serving as a powerful protector in a surreal alternate realm called the Outback. Themes of trauma, identity, and alternate realities were central to its narrative. The series ran 35 issues and was adapted as an animated series using Kieth's own art.

Kieth's work was instantly recognizable, with exaggerated anatomy, elastic forms, and a chaotic energy that broke away from traditional comic aesthetics. Where many artists aimed for precision, Kieth embraced distortion and emotional intensity. He citedFrank Frazetta, Bernie Wrightson, and Vaughn Bode as influences, though he translated them into something entirely his own.

In recognition of his contributions, Kieth received the Inkpot Award from Comic-Con International in 2013.

Later work included Zero Girl, Four Women, Batman: Secrets, and the Batman/Maxx: Arkham Dreams crossover. Because of the onset of his illness, Arkham Dreams became his last major work.

News of his death brought an immediate wave of tributes. Longtime friend and artist Kelley Jones wrote on X: 'Sam Kieth, my old friend since 16 and comic art genius has passed away. He was instrumental in bringing me to DC and changing the course of my career.'

Sam Kieth,my old friend since 16 and comic art genius has passed away.
He was instrumental in bringing me to DC and changing the course of my career. He also introduced me to my wife ( a cute little blond he described her as)and changed the course of my life
God rest his soul.

— Kelley Jones (@kelleyjonesart) March 22, 2026

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy Kieth. Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service. His family asks that donations be made in his name to the Hero Initiative, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

‘Charlie’s Angels’ Goddess Jaclyn Smith, 80, Is Ageless in Pink Pajamas on the Show’s 50th Anniversary

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 9:05am

Jaclyn Smith rose to superstardom on Charlie's Angels, and fifty years later, she's barely aged a day.

The legendary actress, 80, best known for her role as Kelly Garrett on the beloved TV series alongside Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, is aging like fine wine. After she left the iconic series, which ran from 1976 to 1981, she continued to act, with roles on The District and Shear Genius. Never one to slow down, she parlayed her career into the design world, becoming an entrepreneur with Kmart and then with the Home Shopping Channel.

The pilot of Charlie's Angels aired on March 21st, 1971, and Smith's dear friend Patrick Foley took to Instagram to honor the day with a photo of the stunner in pink pajamas. While it has been five decades since she first took on the role of Kelly Garrett, you wouldn't know it. Smith glows in front of the camera!

"Today is the 50th anniversary of the pilot of my all-time favorite show, Charlie’s Angels 💝💝💝How lucky am I, I get to share the evening with my favorite angel Kelly Garrett @realjaclynsmith💖," Foley captioned his photo, which showed him with his arm around a stunning Smith.

Smith Still Honors Farrah Fawcett

While fifty years have passed, Smith hasn't forgotten where she came from. As the years go on, she continues to honor her dear friend and fellow angel, Farrah Fawcett. Recently, Smith headed to the red carpet to join friends Morgan FairchildDonna Mills, and Alana Stewart to honor their late friend, who died of cancer in 2009. The event was a benefit for the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which raises funds for HPV-related cancer research, patient assistance funds during treatment, and prevention programs.

Looking incredible in a monochromatic cream-colored suit, Smith glowed in front of the camera, as did the rest of the ladies.

“In Texas with my friends in support of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation and the annual TexMex Fiesta! What a wonderful time for a great cause. Thank you to everyone who joined us,” she captioned her photos.

'How to Save a Life': The 20 Best Episodes of 'Grey’s Anatomy'

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 9:00am

For two decades, Grey’s Anatomy has delivered some of the most unforgettable moments in television history (RIP Denny Duquette). But not all episodes of the show are created equal (especially not when there are more than 400 to choose from). Whether you're a longtime fan or a new viewer curious about the medical drama's most defining moments, these episodes are what made Grey’s a phenomenon.

The 20 best episodes of Grey's Anatomy1. “A Hard Day’s Night” (Season 1, Episode 1)

Shonda Rhimes had one shot to introduce the TV-watching world to Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Alex Karev, Izzie Stevens and George O’Malley, and she nailed it. The characters are compelling, the stakes are high, and Meredith’s one-night stand from the night before? It was with her new boss, Dr. Derek Shepherd — a setup for one of the most iconic romances in television history.

2. “The First Cut Is the Deepest” (Season 1, Episode 2)

The second episode of the show gives viewers a more complete picture of the interns — Meredith copes with her mother’s Alzheimer’s, and Cristina deals with the loss of a patient. The writing is quick and emotionally layered, and the chemistry between the interns is instantly palpable.

3. “Into You Like a Train” (Season 2, Episode 6)

A catastrophic train crash sends dozens of patients to Seattle Grace, including two strangers who are impaled on the same metal pole. Only one of the victims can survive, making for the sort of ethically complex and emotionally devastating medical cases that define Grey’s Anatomy

4. “Something to Talk About” (Season 2, Episode 7)

The medical mystery of the episode — a man with what turns out to be his parasitic twin inside him — is a perfect example of the show’s often bizarre and always entertaining cases.

5. “It’s the End of the World” / “As We Know It” (Season 2, Episodes 16 & 17)

This two-part episode aired after the 2006 Super Bowl to rave reviews for its intense, suspenseful storyline: a paramedic has her hand inside a patient’s chest cavity — holding a live bomb that could detonate if she moves. In a heart-stopping twist, Meredith ends up with the bomb herself, and the bomb squad leader (played by Kyle Chandler) gets blown up just after he takes the explosive from her hands. But the episode isn’t just one big adrenaline rush; it’s woven together with a satisfying emotional arc for Meredith, who’s forced to confront her depression

6. “Losing My Religion” (Season 2, Episode 27)

After receiving a new heart and proposing to Izzie, Denny Duquette dies — a gut-wrenching turn of events that leads to one of the show’s most memorable performances to date, courtesy of Katherine Heigl. “An hour ago he was proposing, and now he’s going to the morgue. Isn’t that ridiculous? Isn’t that the most ridiculous piece of crap you’ve ever heard?” Classic Grey’s. Classic television.

7. “Some Kind of Miracle” (Season 3, Episode 17)

The conclusion to a three-part arc that begins with Meredith nearly drowning, this spiritual episode takes place in some form of purgatory, where Meredith — who is technically dead — is interacting with other dead people, like Denny Duquette. Ultimately, she’s trying to figure out whether she wants to live — and she does. There’s a point to the episode, and it’s that we all have to choose life, even when it’s messy and painful.

8. “Didn't We Almost Have It All” (Season 3, Episode 25)

Cristina and Burke's wedding ends in heartbreak. “If I loved you — if I loved you, not the woman that I’m trying to make you be, not the woman that I hope you’ll become, but you … I wouldn’t be up there waiting for you,” he tells her. “I would be letting you go.”

9. “Elevator Love Letter” (Season 5, Episode 19)

Derek finally proposes to Meredith — in the elevator, surrounded by CT scans from all of the surgeries they’ve performed together. “This is the first surgery we ever scrubbed in together ... This is you. This is me. This is everything we’ve done together.” It’s simple and intimate, and a good reminder of why Derek is known as McDreamy. On a sadder note, Izzie learns she has Stage IV metastatic melanoma, and it’s spread to her brain. Shonda, why?!

10. “Now or Never” (Season 5, Episode 24)

For the show’s 100th episode ("What a Difference a Day Makes"), Meredith and Derek gave their big wedding day over to Izzie, whose brain cancer had returned, so that she and Alex could get married instead. The surprise ceremony left fans wondering whether Mer and Der would ever tie the knot after all. In this episode ("Now or Never"), the Season 5 finale, viewers finally get their answer: Meredith and Derek exchange vows on a Post-It note, promising “to love each other, even when we hate each other. No running — ever. Nobody walks out. No matter what happens…” They stuck to those vows until Derek’s death.

11. “Now or Never” (Season 5, Episode 24)

In one of the most devastating twists in TV history, a disfigured John Doe brought in after pushing a woman out of the way of a bus turns out to be George O'Malley. The moment when Meredith realizes it’s her friend — when he spells out "007," his nickname, with his finger — is etched into every fan’s mind forever.

12. “The Heart of the Matter” (Season 6, Episode 17)

Meredith and Lexie’s father, Thatcher, returns to the hospital newly sober and trying to make amends, and Meredith is closed off to the idea while Lexie is willing to forgive him. It’s an honest portrayal of how complicated family healing can be — and how sobriety isn't an instant fix.

13. “Sanctuary” / “Death and All His Friends” (Season 6, Episodes 23 & 24)

A grieving widower who blames Seattle Grace for his wife’s death comes armed to exact revenge, killing multiple people and shooting Derek. Cristina operates on McDreamy at gunpoint while a pregnant Meredith (who suffers a miscarriage mid-episode) stands by. Sound intense? It is.

14. "Flight" (Season 8, Episode 24)

A plane crash leaves Meredith, Cristina, Arizona, Derek, Mark and Lexie stranded in a forest, wounded and fighting for survival. Ultimately, Lexie succumbs to her injuries (she's pinned under part of the plane), and in one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the series, she dies while Mark holds her hand and tells her he loves her.

15. “Fear (of the Unknown)” (Season 10, Episode 24)

Cristina leaves to run a cardio research institute in Zurich — a move that’s at once crushing and exhilarating. Her final scenes with Meredith, including their silent dance goodbye, is so perfectly them.

16. “How to Save a Life” (Season 11, Episode 21)

Ah, yes, the episode that marks the death of Derek Shepherd, one of the show’s most beloved characters. Besides being a shocking hour of television, it’s objectively well crafted, using structure, pacing and emotional restraint to great effect.

17. “The Sound of Silence” (Season 12, Episode 9)

A bottle episode directed by Denzel Washington, the hour opens with a brutal attack on Meredith by a patient having a psychotic episode. The beating happens off-screen but the aftermath — facial injuries, broken bones, loss of speech — is horrifying, and Meredith's resilience? The stuff of Grey's.

18. “Silent All These Years” (Season 15, Episode 19)

Named for a Tori Amos song about female pain and being unheard, “Silent All These Years” follows Abigail, a woman who comes to the hospital after being sexually assaulted. When she’s taken to surgery — terrified — every woman in the hospital lines the hallway in silence, an act of solidarity and protection. Meantime, the storyline reveals that Jo (Camilla Luddington) is a child of rape, adding a layer of complexity to her character.

19. "Leave a Light On" (Season 16, Episode 16)

Well, really, this is one of the worst episodes of the show because it marks longtime character Alex Karev’s final appearance on the series — and he’s written off via letter. Letter! But it’s a powerful episode nonetheless, or at least an important one to the canon.

20. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" (Season 17, Episode 17)

After a heavy COVID-centric season, the show ended its 17th installment on a lighter note, with Maggie and Winston’s wedding. It was a welcome bright spot, to say the least!

9 Best Peptide Lip Treatments for a More Hydrated, Plumper Pout

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 8:45am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Peptides are trending big in the beauty industry, and along with finding them in lots of anti-aging serums and moisturizers, they’re also in lip balms—specifically in a new wave of peptide-infused lip treatments designed to nourish and subtly enhance lip volume.

Unlike traditional lip balms that simply hydrate the lips, peptide lip treatments have active ingredients that work beneath the surface to improve the condition of lips long-term. These formulas are designed to support the delicate skin of the lips and help them appear smoother with regular use.

According to Dr. Marie Jhin, board certified dermatologist at Premier Aesthetic Dermatology, peptide lip products represent the next generation of lip care. “Peptides are short-chain amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the skin,” she tells Parade. “Unlike standard lip balms that just sit on the surface, peptide lip treatments can help stimulate collagen production and support the lip area over time.”

Dermatologist Marisa Garshick of Manhattan Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery Centers explains these formulas can provide both immediate hydration and longer-term benefits for the lips.

Ahead, they share how peptide lip treatments work—and which formulas are worth adding to your routine.

Top Peptide Lip TreatmentsWhat Are Peptide Lip Treatments?

A peptide lip treatment simply refers to a lip care product formulated with peptides. The peptides "act as building blocks for proteins like collagen," Dr. Garshick says. "Because lips lack oil glands, these formulas often combine peptides with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or nourishing oils to keep lips soft and hydrated."

Do Peptide Lip Treatments Actually Work?

Peptides are widely used in skincare and have been shown to support collagen production and improve overall skin texture. Since the lips contain relatively little collagen, they may respond particularly well to peptide-based formulas.

“Peptide lip treatments can help lips appear more hydrated and less wrinkled,” says Dr. Jhin. “However, they won’t produce dramatic plumping like injectable fillers.”

Garshick agrees that while the changes are subtle, they can still make a noticeable difference over time.

“Peptide lip treatments can be helpful, especially with consistent use,” she explains. “They support collagen and improve hydration, which may make lips appear smoother and gradually fuller.”

What Are the Benefits of Peptides in Lip Care?

Peptides can offer several advantages for the delicate lip area when used regularly.

According to Dr. Garshick, one of the main benefits is improved collagen support, which may also improve firmness and minimize the appearance of fine lines around the lips.

They also work to strengthen the skin barrier and prevent skin roughness, Dr. Garshick says.

How Often Should You Use a Peptide Lip Treatment?

Consistency plays an important role in seeing results. Dr. Jhin recommends applying peptide lip treatments twice daily—morning and night—as part of a regular skincare routine.

They can also be reapplied throughout the day if additional hydration is needed, Dr. Garshick adds. “In most cases, peptide lip treatments can be used daily and even multiple times per day,” she says. “Since peptides work gradually, consistent use helps maximize their benefits.”

Can Peptide Lip Treatments Replace Lip Balm?

Many peptide lip treatments are formulated with the same ingredients as traditional lip balms, so in most cases you can replace it, both dermatologists say.

Dr. Garshick notes that these formulas are essentially a more advanced version of everyday lip care. They combine peptides with typical moisturizers like hyaluronic acid, oils, shea butter, squalane or petrolatum to help seal in hydration while also delivering active ingredients, she says.

“But if you’re spending time outdoors or dealing with harsh weather, layering a lip balm with SPF can provide extra protection,” Dr. Jhin adds.

Are Peptide Lip Treatments Good for Dry or Chapped Lips?

Peptide lip treatments can be especially helpful for lips that frequently feel dry. They can replenish moisture while supporting the skin barrier, which can reduce dryness and flaking over time, according to Dr. Garshick.

However, extremely chapped lips may require additional care. “For severely dry lips, using a thicker moisturizing ointment can help lock in hydration,” she says. Consulting a dermatologist can also help determine whether an underlying condition is contributing to the dryness.

Can Peptides Make Lips Look Fuller?

Peptides can help improve the appearance of fullness by supporting collagen and improving hydration levels. As the lip structure becomes better supported, the lips may look smoother and slightly more defined.

“Peptides can help lips appear fuller by supporting collagen and improving hydration,” Garshick explains. “However, they’re designed to enhance the natural appearance of the lips rather than replace in-office treatments like fillers.”

Dr. Jhin agrees. The mechanism is different from a filler. A peptide treatment stimulates collagen and "as the lip's collagen matrix is rebuilt, lips can appear more structured, defined and volumized from within."

While the results are subtle, regular use may help create a softer, more hydrated and naturally plumper look.

What Is Period Underwear, and Is It Safe for Teens?

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 8:25am

If you’re a girl mom or dad, you know that helping your daughter navigate menstruation is part of the job. While you may be at a life stage where you’re anxious about the transition of your period ending, your daughter may be worried about getting it for the first time. Oh, the joys of girlhood.

She likely has questions about whether getting her period will hurt, if anyone will be able to tell she has it, the best way to deal with cramps and if her period can get her out of P.E. As a parent, you should also be prepared to answer questions about menstrual pads, tampons, menstrual cups and period underwear.

Related: Cognitive Issues Are Showing up More and More in Young People—Here's Why, and What To Do About It

Never heard of period underwear? Thanks to brands like Knix, Thinx and Saalt, they are becoming an increasingly popular way to manage period bleeding. It completely eliminates opening a noisy, bulky pad in the school bathroom.

If you didn’t grow up with period underwear, you may be wondering if they’re safe for your tween or teen to use. We talked to gynecologists about everything you need to know, including what period underwear is, how to use it properly and most importantly, if it’s safe for teens.

What Is Period Underwear and Is It Safe for Teens?

Period underwear is exactly as it sounds. They are underwear that acts as a pad and absorbs menstrual flow directly into the material of the underwear,” explains Dr. Ann Jacob, DO, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Reiter, Hill & Johnson of Advantia Health.

Dr. Jacob explains that period underwear contains the period blood within the underwear itself and can act as an alternative or backup protection to other period products, such as a tampon or menstrual cup. She adds that they’re reusable and easily cleaned by tossing in the washing machine.

Related: 5 Body Language Red Flags for Teenagers, a Child Psychologist Warns Parents and Grandparents

Dr. Donna Baick, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist with UCI Health, says that period underwear offers discretion, convenience, cost-effectiveness and environmental benefits—all reasons why they are becoming increasingly popular.

In terms of whether period underwear is safe for teens, Dr. Baick says that this isn’t something that has been scientifically studied, at least not yet. Because of this, she explains that teens using period underwear should be vigilant of irritation, skin sensitivities or allergic reactions, which can all be signs of being sensitive to the materials.

Though period underwear hasn’t been scientifically studied, Dr. Jacob says that it’s generally considered safe for women of all ages, including teens. “As with any reusable menstrual or clothing product, safety does depend on practicing good hygiene and cleaning the product correctly in between wears,” she tells Parade.

What Teens Should Keep in Mind When Using Period Underwear

“Teens should know that period underwear can be used on its own or as a backup and that they come in many styles. How long it can be worn depends on the flow and the comfort of the teen,” Dr. Jacob says.

While tampons and pads typically need to be changed regularly, Dr. Jacob says that period underwear can be worn as long as regular underwear is worn. “It’s okay to try many different kinds to find one that is the right fit for you and for your flow. As flow can change over the course of your period, having options for light and heavy days is a good idea,” she shares.

Dr. Baick adds to this advice about how long period underwear can be worn, saying, “Teens can wear period underwear throughout menstruation, but should monitor their period length and flow. Maintaining good hygiene practices, such as regular bathing and washing underwear, is also important.”

Both doctors agree that period underwear can safely be worn to bed too. However, Dr. Baick says that it’s important for teens to be aware of any signs of overflow, odor or discomfort, which are all signs that it’s time to put on a new pair of period underwear or switch to a menstrual pad, cup or tampon.

Are There Risks To Wearing Period Underwear?

While both doctors say that there aren’t any risks to wearing period underwear, it’s important to know that some types of period underwear are made with PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.” These chemicals have been linked to many health and environmental risks and are so prevalent in our society that they are hard to escape. If you are concerned about PFAS in period underwear, it’s important to shop for PFAS-free period underwear.

Dr. Baick says that one downside of period underwear is that, since it absorbs the period blood, teens can’t easily know if bleeding is ever excessive or abnormal. “Normal menstrual product use involves changing pads or tampons every three to six hours; this may be hard to gauge with period underwear,” she explains.

Besides helping manage periods, Dr. Jacob says that period underwear can be helpful for tweens and teens who haven’t gotten their period yet. “When a teen gets their first period is so hard to predict. It can be beneficial and make teens more comfortable to get used to period underwear and understand how to care for them before they need to use them. It may also help curb anxiety around leaking through clothing for an unexpected first period,” she says.

In general, period underwear is considered safe for teens and it’s as easy to use as putting on a pair of regular underwear. The sound of opening a bulky pad in the bathroom just might be gone for good.

Quince is Dropping a Limited-Edition Color of Its Most Famous Carry-On

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 8:10am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to ditch your beat-up, "boring black" suitcase, Quince just gave you a very colorful reason to finally pull the trigger. The brand that’s become a favorite for high-end quality at a fraction of the price is launching a series of limited-edition color drops for their award-winning suitcases.

The first shade arriving this April is Lavender—a soft, whimsical purple that stands out instantly at baggage claim. It’s a sure-fire way to brighten your travel day, whether you’re coordinating with your favorite spring airplane outfit or just want a bag that feels as fresh as your destination.

The Road-Test Results: Why It’s a ‘Pro’ Favorite Shop It at Quince!

I’ve been testing the Quince carry-on throughout the fall and winter as part of a wider trial of award-winning luggage, and it has consistently come out as a top favorite. While the new colors are fun, the real magic is in the engineering.

The 360-degree high-performance spinner wheels are the gold standard—they glide like a dream and are noticeably quieter than other high-end carry-ons on the market. Inside, the built-in compression system is a lifesaver for over-packers, helping you cinch down your wardrobe to make every inch of space count.

The Verdict: A High-End Steal

In terms of sturdiness and "scuff-resistance," this bag definitely holds its own against brands that cost three times as much. At just $129, it’s a veritable steal for a piece of gear that feels this premium.

Because these color drops are produced in limited quantities, they aren't going to sit on the shelves for long. If Lavender is your spring mood, you'll want to move fast—it’s the smartest way to ensure the only thing "predictable" about your next trip is how smoothly you’ll glide through the terminal.

The Italian Way To Make Chicken Thighs 10x Better

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 8:06am

There are nights when I cook because I have to, and nights when I cook because I want to feel something special. I want the room to warm slowly, the air to shift, and the house to fill with an aroma that pulls people toward the kitchen. Every time I make Merlot-Braised Chicken Thighs, I feel that comforting, “this is exactly why I cook” moment. This signature recipe from Lidia Bastianich’s Italian Table is proof that Italian food should be soulful, authentic and deeply satisfying. With just a handful of simple ingredients handled thoughtfully, Lidia shows how a home-cooked dish can be flavorful, comforting, made with love and elevate a weeknight chicken dinner to something 10x more delicious than usual.

What makes Lidia’s approach to chicken thighs 10x better is her rejection of the standard, one-dimensional braise. Instead of a basic sear, she transforms the humble thigh into an elegant stuffed bundle. The "how" is a masterclass in layering: Bastianich sautés a rich medley of leeks and carrots, binding them with Parmigiano-Reggiano before rolling the mixture tightly inside the meat. Each bundle is then "perfumed" with a fresh sage leaf and rosemary sprig that is tucked right under the butcher’s twine that is holding the thighs together.

As the chicken thighs braise, the cheese melts into the vegetables while the wine reduces into a sophisticated, purple-hued lacquer. It is a labor of love that honors the Italian tradition of patience over trends. In the end you realize you are no longer just serving dinner; you are sharing a piece of Italian heritage.

Below, we break down the recipe step-by-step so you can see what I mean.

Theresa Greco

The Italian Way To Make Chicken Thighs 10x Better

In this recipe, the Merlot does more than add flavor, it brings everything together. After the chicken is beautifully browned, the wine is poured in with stock and simmered uncovered, allowing it to gently reduce and deepen. As it cooks, the alcohol evaporates, leaving behind rich, fruity notes and just the right touch of brightness.

As the sauce gently simmers, it melds with the chicken’s natural juices and the savory filling tucked inside each thigh. The flavors deepen and harmonize, creating a dish that’s layered yet comforting, richly savory, lightly herbal, and softly rounded by the wine.

This isn’t the kind of braise where the meat falls apart at the touch of a fork. Instead, the chicken becomes tender while still holding its shape, keeping all that delicious filling inside. It’s finished with a glossy, flavorful sauce that feels special enough for guests, yet cozy enough for a Sunday dinner at home. It’s the kind of dish that makes your kitchen smell amazing long before dinner hits the table.

Ingredients Needed for Merlot-Braised Chicken Thighs

Theresa Greco

Simple ingredients are elevated beautifully in this dish. It’s all about layering bright herbs and savory aromatics to create a flavor profile that feels both rustic and refined. Each component builds on the next, transforming everyday staples into something truly special.

To make it, you’ll need unsalted butter and extra-virgin olive oil for richness, along with onions, leeks, carrots and celery to form a deeply flavorful base. Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano and chopped Italian parsley add savory depth and brightness, while boneless, skinless chicken thighs become tender and juicy as they cook. Sprigs of fresh rosemary, fragrant sage leaves and garlic cloves infuse the dish with warmth and herbaceous aroma.

For the braising liquid, use a soft, fruit-forward Merlot, or another light, dry red wine, along with good-quality chicken broth. As it simmers and reduces, the wine transforms into a silky, flavorful sauce that brings the whole dish together.

Related: The Martha Stewart Recipe That Changed My Mind About Chicken Breast

How To Make Merlot-Braised Chicken Thighs

It all starts with a deeply flavorful aromatic base built in a medium skillet. Butter melts into olive oil, and as it begins to foam, in go the chopped onions and leeks. Within minutes, they soften and turn translucent, filling the kitchen with that unmistakable savory aroma that signals something special is underway.

Theresa Greco

Chopped carrots and celery follow, along with a light seasoning of salt and pepper, then everything cooks gently over low heat until tender and fragrant. Once cooled, the mixture is folded together with grated cheese and fresh parsley, transforming simple vegetables into a rich, herb-flecked stuffing.

Theresa Greco

As the filling rests, the chicken thighs are trimmed and carefully prepared for rolling. Each one is spread with a generous spoonful of the vegetable mixture, then tucked into a neat, compact bundle.

Theresa Greco

A bit of kitchen twine secures the shape, while a sprig of rosemary and a sage leaf are slipped underneath, infusing the chicken with subtle herbal perfume as it cooks.

Theresa Greco

The bundles are then browned in olive oil with a few cloves of garlic, turning slowly until golden on all sides.

Theresa Greco

After the excess fat is poured off, the pan is deglazed with a splash of Merlot, which bubbles up and begins to reduce almost immediately.

Theresa Greco

Chicken stock joins the wine, and together they simmer steadily, gradually thickening into a glossy, aromatic sauce.

Theresa Greco

In about 20 minutes, the chicken becomes tender while still holding its shape, and the liquid transforms into a concentrated glaze that clings to each bundle. Once the twine and wilted herb sprigs are removed, all that’s left to do is spoon the rich pan sauce over the top and serve—preferably while it’s still warm enough to perfume the entire room.

Related: Giada's Chicken Piccata is Weeknight Dinner Perfection

Why the Type of Wine Matters Here

The choice of Merlot, or another dry red wine, is all about creating a balanced, harmonious sauce. Because the wine reduces to a concentrated glaze, every characteristic becomes amplified. Bolder reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon tend to have firmer tannins, which can intensify during reduction and introduce bitterness that would overpower the chicken.

Merlot is typically more fruit-forward, with notes of plum and cherry and much gentler tannins. As it reduces, it becomes lush and velvety, enhancing the savory herb and cheese filling without adding harshness.

When I spoke with the wine team at Colangelo & Partners, they echoed Lidia's balanced approach, recommending an Italian expression of Merlot, specifically Famiglia Cotarella Montiano Rosso. Its bright acidity and subtle earthy undertones mirror the rosemary and sage, complementing rather than competing with the overall flavor of the dish.

My Honest Thoughts

Theresa Greco

If you’re looking for a dish that turns an everyday chicken dinner into something truly special, these Merlot-Braised Chicken Thighs deliver. It may not be flashy, but what it lacks in showy presentation it more than makes up for in rich, layered flavor. This is the kind of meal that feels restaurant-worthy in taste and is perfect for a cozy dinner party or an intimate celebration at home.

The savory vegetable stuffing and aromatic wine reduction create a depth of flavor that feels thoughtful and refined without being fussy. Each bite is tender, herb-infused, and coated in a silky sauce that tastes like it simmered all day.

While there is a bit of preparation involved including trimming, stuffing, and tying the bundles, the extra effort pays off beautifully. Once the chicken is seared, the braise becomes largely hands-off, giving you time to set the table, tidy the kitchen, or pour a glass of that Merlot for yourself. As it gently simmers, the sauce reduces into a glossy, concentrated finish that brings everything together in the end. It’s a rewarding technique that proves impressive flavor doesn’t have to look extravagant, it just has to taste unforgettable.

3 Final Tips for Making Merlot-Braised Chicken Thighs
  1. Skip the toothpicks. Butcher’s twine keeps the rosemary and sage snug against the chicken and thighs need that steady tension to really soak up those herby oils.
  2. Braise uncovered. Let the Merlot and stock simmer openly so they reduce into a glossy, cling-to-the-chicken glaze instead of a thin sauce.
  3. Finish with a quick boil. If the sauce is still loose, remove the chicken and boil the liquid hard for 2–3 minutes to reach that silky, spoon-coating finish.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Backlash Erupts After TV Special Airs With Key Error

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 7:49am

A local TV station is facing backlash from viewers after airing a special on Nancy Guthrie that contained a major error. Following the KVOA News 4 Tucson broadcast of "Bring Her Home: The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie," viewers quickly took to social media, pointing out that the program misstated the date of her disappearance.

In addition to recapping the past several weeks, the television special featured an interview with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and an exclusive statement from the Guthrie family. It was during KVOA's interview with Sheriff Nanos, however, that the incorrect date was stated.

"Take me back to the night of Sunday, January 31," KVOA anchor Monica Garcia said during her interview with Nanos.

Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1. She was last seen by her family members on Saturday, Jan. 31 around 9:45 p.m. local time. When she didn't show up at a friend's house to watch a livestream of a church service on Sunday morning, her family was notified. Within minutes of arriving at her home in the Catalina Foothills, authorities were called. According to the Pima County Sheriff's official timeline, authorities arrived at the home after 12 p.m. local time.

"No disrespect to the Guthrie family. I pray every day Nancy is found, but your reporter while speaking to the sheriff got her dates wrong. Nancy was reported missing around 11:50 on Sunday FEB 1," one person wrote on X after the special aired.

"How disappointing this wasn't about Nancy and helping her get home, but a hit report on the people keeping her name out there by live streaming. Just shameful reporting, another reason we stopped watching TV news," someone else said.

"This was a horrible click bait. Repeats of what other channels have already reported. Can’t even get the date correct. If not for streamers who is reporting & try to find Nancy? Not KVOA, you should be ashamed of this! Find Nancy," a third comment read, adding a special thank you to YouTubers who have been covering the case.

"This was a pathetic hit piece on streamers while using their footage and interviews. Nothing new and no updates. Absolutely appalling and disgusting & edited by a two year old. What a damn joke," a fourth X user added.

KVOA has not publicly responded to the criticism.

Sophie Cunningham and West Wilson Reveal the Real Moment March Madness Is Won

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 7:40am

WNBA star and Show Me Somethingpodcast host Sophie Cunningham says the moment March Madness is truly won doesn’t happen under the lights—it happens the night before, in a hotel room, when teammates finally relax, connect, and start trusting each other.

Cunningham and cohost West Wilson, sports journalist for Complex and Summer House star, say those unseen, off-court moments, combined with single-elimination pressure are where March Madness is actually won, turning unknown players into breakout stars and good teams into unforgettable runs.

"One moment that fans never see is the time the team spends together off-the-court. The film sessions and the shootarounds are important, but it's when two or three players are gathered in their room, not even talking about basketball, and someone cracks a joke and the whole mood shifts. You walk onto the court the next day loose, connected, trusting each other," Cunningham explains to Parade.

View this post on Instagram

She and Wilson partnered with Marriott Bonvoy to host a four-episode series premiering March 24 during the NCAA Tournament, part of the “Where Gameday Checks In” campaign. "We will reminisce on gameday memories like that on Live From the Bracket. Marriott Bonvoy gets it because they know the hotel isn't just where you sleep, it's where the team actually becomes a team," Cunningham remarks.

Adding further insight, Wilson says March Madness levels the playing field. "March Madness is the great equalizer because it's single elimination. There's no 'we'll get them next game.' That pressure either breaks you or reveals something in you," he says. "An unknown sophomore who's been coming off the bench all season suddenly gets 28 minutes because a starter fouls out, and the whole country is watching. That's not luck, that's the tournament pulling the story out of you."

The tournament’s finality is why he and Cunningham wanted to "dig into these moments on Live From the Bracket in partnership with Marriott Bonvoy. The chaos of the bracket is exactly where the best stories live," Wilson shares.

That being said, could Parade get Wilson and Cunningham to spill their picks? Uh, no. Cunningham says she has "thoughts on who's cutting down the nets this year" and Wilson shares that he'll talk picks off mic. "Sophie and I are going to be getting into who we think takes it all, hearing from celeb guests who think they've figured it out, and honestly just having the best time doing it," he says. "New episodes drop throughout March Madness so you do not want to miss it. Follow Show Me Somethingon Instagram and YouTube so you don't miss a thing."

Cunningham and Wilson say advancing teams live on the giant bracket at the JW Marriott Indianapolis will be an electric, full-circle moment, bringing them into the heart of March Madness. They emphasize the bracket as both a powerful visual centerpiece and storytelling anchor for the podcast, with Marriott Bonvoy’s campaign placing them at the center of the action from tip-off through the Final Four. Together, they agree: before the buzzer-beaters and bracket chaos, March Madness is won in the quiet, off-court moments no one sees.

1986 Rock Classic Was a Legendary Band’s First No. 1 40 Years Ago Today

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 7:14am

Four decades ago, a dreamy power ballad helped a now-legendary rock band score its first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

On March 22, 1986, Heart's song "These Dreams," a single on the group's self-titled eighth studio album released the year before, soared to the top of the charts, becoming the group's first certified hit.

The exciting milestone actually came after Heart had already released some of the group's most well-known hits, including "Barracuda" and "Magic Man," but it wasn't until years into the band's tenure that the group got to the No. 1 spot.

Along with "These Dreams," the other singles on the Heart album, which came out on June 21, 1985, included "What About Love," "Never," "Nothin' at All," and "If Looks Could Kill." All of the singles except for "If Looks Could Kill" reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album is Heart's only record to top the Billboard Top 200.

While Heart has undergone a few different lineup changes throughout the band's long career, lead singer Ann Wilson and singer and guitarist Nancy Wilson remain the core members. At the time of Heart's release, the band also included Howard Leese, Mark Andes, and Denny Carmassi.

Related: Heart’s Nancy Wilson Stuns in Rare Romantic Photo With Husband

"These Dreams" is one of only two of the band's singles to feature Nancy instead of Ann on lead vocals, and according to Nancy, the extreme success of the song caused a little tension between the sisters.

Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment/SiriusXM Volume in 2021, Nancy recalled, "When I was singing on the demo, the mock vocal, I had a cold that day, so my voice was really scratchy. And [the producers] said, ‘That's really a cool sound. We should keep that in the song.’"

"So, it just came about, like every which way, for that song to actually become the very first ever No. 1 single we ever had — and Ann was pissed!” she went on.

Luckily, Heart went on to have two more No. 1 tracks, with "Alone" in 1987 and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You" in 1990.

Virgin to Debut a New 33-Room Farmhouse Retreat Near Marrakech

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 7:10am

If you've ever found yourself torn between the high-energy pulse of the Marrakech Medina and the soul-soothing silence of the Atlas Mountains, Sir Richard Branson has some very good news for your 2027 travel calendar.

Virgin Limited Edition has officially pulled back the curtain on its second Moroccan property, and it is shaping up to be the ultimate "best of both worlds" home base. Currently under construction just 25 minutes from the heart of the city, this yet-to-be-named sanctuary is a 37-suite small luxury hotel that feels more like a chic, private agricultural estate than a traditional resort.

Nestled within a sprawling 10-hectare organic farm, the property is a literal garden of earthly delights, surrounded by citrus orchards, ancient olive groves and vegetable gardens.

The vibe here is "farm-to-table luxury," where the three on-site restaurants and exclusive Chef’s Table will pull seasonal produce directly from the backyard. For those who like a little mystery with their mint tea, there is even a speakeasy bar in the works—perfect for a nightcap after a day spent exploring the souks.

While Virgin’s iconic Kasbah Tamadot has long been the gold standard for mountain luxury (and recently snagged three Michelin Keys), this new estate offers a different kind of reset. It is designed as a peaceful "buffer" between the buzz of the city and the stillness of the peaks.

You can spend your morning haggling for rugs in the city and your afternoon lounging by a massive 40-meter signature swimming pool or sweating it out in a traditional Moroccan hammam. If you are the type who can’t sit still, the estate is also packing the grounds with active options like horse riding, tennis and the sport of the moment, padel.

Joe Margison, CEO of Virgin Hotels Collection, noted that this project is all about bringing that "unmistakable Virgin magic" to a setting deeply rooted in Berber tradition. By the time the first 22 keys open in early 2027, guests will be able to "twin-centre" their trip—starting with the lush, low-slung luxury of the Marrakech farm before heading an hour uphill to the rugged beauty of the Atlas Mountains.

Bookings are set to open in September 2026, so mark your calendars now. Whether you are looking for a "solo-cation" reset or a milestone girlfriend getaway, Branson is making sure Morocco remains the ultimate "it" destination for years to come.

Co-written and produced by Smokey Robinson, the 12-track record famously featured "My Girl," which would later be regarded as one of the greatest songs of all time, by many accounts.

The Temptations Sing Smokey also featured popular songs like "The Way You Do The Things You Do" and "It's Growing," but it was "My Girl" that became a career-defining smash hit for the group.

"My Girl" was released as a single in December 1964, before later being included on The Temptations Sing Smokey. With lead vocals by David Ruffin, "My Girl" earned the group their first No. 1 hit, after it shot up on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early March 1965. It also spent six weeks at the top of Billboard's R&B songs chart.

"My Girl" has since been ranked as one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, first coming in at #88 in 2004, before moving up to #41 in the updated 2021 edition.

In 1998, "My Girl" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, which honors "recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old," according to the official website.

"My Girl" was also selected for the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017, and was officially inducted in 2018.

"I’m totally overwhelmed by 'My Girl' receiving such an honor," Robinson said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter at the time. "As a songwriter, it has become my international anthem. People in countries where English is not the primary language know and sing 'My Girl' when I perform it."

1975 No. 1 Hit Ranked Among ‘Top Love Songs of All Time’—Called ‘Most Beautiful Hit Record Ever’

Sun, 03/22/2026 - 6:54am

In 1975, Minnie Riperton had a massive hit with “Lovin’ You.” The song, written by Riperton and her husband, Richard Rudolph and co-produced by Stevie Wonder for the album Perfect Angel, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 5, 1975. More than 50 years later, Billboardranked the ballad as one of the top 50 love songs of all time.

Paste magazine went a step further, saying Riperton’s vocals “very well might be the greatest singing performance captured on tape.” “'Lovin’ You' is a lullaby surrounded by talking birds, with Richard Rudolph’s acoustic guitar strumming delicately against Wonder’s notes. It’s maybe the most beautiful hit record ever,” the outlet noted.

“Lovin’ You” showcased Riperton’s impressive vocal range and mastery of the whistle register. Radio listeners both loved and hated the background bird chirping in the song, thus “Lovin’ You” has also landed on its share of worst songs lists.

‘Lovin You’ almost didn’t make the album

"Lovin’ You” was inspired by a lullaby Riperton sang to her daughter, future Saturday Night Livestar Maya Rudolph. In an interview with Okay Player, Richard Rudolph recalled, “Minnie was in the kitchen singing, and I was playing the guitar in the other room and suddenly, she started singing something and I went, ‘What?’ That stuck, and I knew that we had it. I didn’t have the bridge yet and then I did that.”

The songwriter noted that during a studio session, it was Wonder’s idea to add the bird sounds. “The window had been open, and there was a bird singing outside. Stevie said, ‘Get the bird,’” he shared. “We went out to the UCLA Botanical Garden with his Nagra tape recorder, and Minnie would sit there and try to sing these really high bird calls and get birds to sing.”

Rudolph added that the record label initially didn’t see “Lovin’ You” as a single.

“The interesting thing about that song was that the record label didn’t think they could release it as a single,” he said. “They didn’t want to release it."

"We had been out on a tour," he continued. "We were playing the set, and when we started to play 'Lovin’ You,’ we saw this amazing thing happen to these people. People started moving closer to each other and putting their arms around each other. It was like a transformational role, and Minnie looked back at me, and I looked at her and asked, ‘Do you see this? This is crazy.’ We came back and said to the label, ‘You’ve got to put this out.’ They responded, ‘You can’t do it. She’s a Black singer and she’s got no bass and no drums.”’ All the experts told us, but we just kept arguing and trying.”

‘Lovin’ You was Minnie Riperton’s only No. 1 hit

Riperton lived less than five years after the success of "Lovin’ You.” The young mother and beloved songstress died from breast cancer on July 12, 1979, at age 31.

In a 2025 interview with The Los Angeles Times, Rudolph looked back on the 50 years since his late wife’s big hit and admitted that “sometimes it’s beautiful and sometimes it’s very painful” to listen to her music.

But he added, “It really touches my heart that the younger generation of musicians is still moved by Minnie and what she did.”
